  Speaker 6: hundred aspiring black authors, and so I am super excited.

  Speaker 6: You know a little bit about myself Shine. Sometimes people
• 5:01
  Speaker 6: ask me, well, where did Sunshine come from?
• 5:04
  Speaker 5: And there's a little short story our share.
• 5:07
  Speaker 6: Back in two thousand and nine, we had moved, I
• 5:12
  Speaker 6: moved my family to Florida, and I was working from home,
• 5:17
  Speaker 6: so that allowed me a lot of time to be
• 5:19
  Speaker 6: able to go to my children's.
• 5:21
  Speaker 5: School and be really active.
• 5:24
  Speaker 6: And so my oldest daughter, Marissa, was a freshman at
• 5:29
  Speaker 6: Brooks D. Bartlow High School in Tampa, Florida, and I
• 5:35
  Speaker 6: walked in one day her school and the principal say,
• 5:39
  Speaker 6: look at you walking in like a big old ball
• 5:42
  Speaker 6: of sunshine. Can I start calling you Sunshine? And so
• 5:46
  Speaker 6: that's where it started in two thousand and nine, and
• 5:50
  Speaker 6: I wear that title proudly and boldly.
• 5:55
  Speaker 5: I am Sunshine.
• 5:57
  Speaker 6: God has given me this positive of spirit, and I
• 6:02
  Speaker 6: just love people, and I just love to share the
• 6:05
  Speaker 6: goodness of God with others. So two thousand and nine,
• 6:09
  Speaker 6: I became Sunshine. Right now, in twenty twenty five, I'm married.
• 6:16
  Speaker 6: Thank God for blessing me. I'm with a husband after fifty.
• 6:20
  Speaker 6: You know, a lot of women struggle with finding real,
• 6:24
  Speaker 6: meaningful relationships when we get older in life. But I'm
• 6:27
  Speaker 6: so grateful that God has blessed me with a loving
• 6:30
  Speaker 6: husband after fifty. We've been married now for nine months.
• 6:35
  Speaker 6: That's what I shared with the church yesterday. It's been
• 6:38
  Speaker 6: nine whole months. We got married August eighteen, and so
• 6:42
  Speaker 6: I'm a mother of three biological children and three bonus children.
• 6:48
  Speaker 6: So we got our own little Brady bunch and they
• 6:51
  Speaker 6: ranged from thirty six years old all the way to fourteen.
• 6:57
  Speaker 5: And our daughter, our baby.
• 6:59
  Speaker 6: Daughter, she just had a prom on Saturday, and so
• 7:03
  Speaker 6: I'm so excited about her life and her future as
• 7:06
  Speaker 6: she get ready to go off to college this year.
• 7:11
  Speaker 6: And then I am a proud grandmother. I have one
• 7:16
  Speaker 6: bonus grandson, and then I have my first biological grandson,
• 7:22
  Speaker 6: my little chunk Ums.
• 7:24
  Speaker 5: He's also nine months old.
• 7:26
  Speaker 6: He was born in August as well, the same month
• 7:30
  Speaker 6: I got married. So August was such a busy time
• 7:33
  Speaker 6: for my family in twenty twenty four. And so writing,
• 7:39
  Speaker 6: I have always had a story in me. I've always
• 7:44
  Speaker 6: had something to share and I could remember even like
• 7:49
  Speaker 6: stories and different things. My imagination have always been vivid.
• 7:53
  Speaker 6: But I didn't want to write nonfiction because my own life,
• 7:59
  Speaker 6: my own journey, is story in itself. And now I
• 8:04
  Speaker 6: am so grateful to God for the opportunity for me
• 8:08
  Speaker 6: to be able to live.
• 8:09
  Speaker 5: Out my purpose.
• 8:10
  Speaker 6: I found like I've got this newfound purpose through writing,
• 8:16
  Speaker 6: and that is to share my story to empower and
• 8:21
  Speaker 6: uplift women, but everybody, not just women, but everybody. And
• 8:26
  Speaker 6: so my journey of writing actually started a few years
• 8:31
  Speaker 6: ago when I was going through different situations with different relationships,
• 8:37
  Speaker 6: and I looked in a mirror and I told myself, girl,
• 8:42
  Speaker 6: you not that desperate. And from that moment on, the
• 8:46
  Speaker 6: seed had been planted inside of me and it just
• 8:51
  Speaker 6: came to fruition. Last year, for my birthday in December,
• 8:55
  Speaker 6: I told myself, I am going to publish this book
• 8:58
  Speaker 6: because the message in it needs to get out because
• 9:01
  Speaker 6: women are hurting, they're struggling, and God gave me a.
• 9:07
  Speaker 5: Formula to help people.
• 9:09
  Speaker 6: And if you look at those four guiding principles and
• 9:12
  Speaker 6: live according to that, you can be set free because
• 9:16
  Speaker 6: the Bible tells us where the spirit of the Lord is,
• 9:19
  Speaker 6: there is liberty. And so that is my message through
• 9:22
  Speaker 6: that book is just to empower people, women specifically, and
• 9:28
  Speaker 6: to let them know and encourage them like you not
• 9:32
  Speaker 6: the only one that have had that experience or been
• 9:34
  Speaker 6: through that. And that's what I get to, like a
• 9:37
  Speaker 6: lot of women telling me like, oh my God, I
• 9:40
  Speaker 6: read your book and I saw my own self in
• 9:44
  Speaker 6: your story, and I was like, well, yes, I know
• 9:47
  Speaker 6: I'm not alone, but I think it's important for me
• 9:50
  Speaker 6: to share this story just to help the next person
• 9:54
  Speaker 6: and to empower them of growth and self love. And
• 9:59
  Speaker 6: then also that's my first book, Girl You're Not That Desperate,
• 10:03
  Speaker 6: So this was like my debut book, Girl You're Not
• 10:06
  Speaker 6: That desperad That was the debut. And then last year
• 10:11
  Speaker 6: also had a spinal fusion surgery and I ended up
• 10:16
  Speaker 6: with a pulmonary embolism and I was just like really
• 10:20
  Speaker 6: sick like for a good portion of last year. And
• 10:26
  Speaker 6: through that whole process of being healed, I authored a
• 10:32
  Speaker 6: devotional that was that's titled Just Chilling Heal and this
• 10:38
  Speaker 6: is like for anyone devotional for anyone that's going on
• 10:43
  Speaker 6: a healing journey and looking for peace, and it's just
• 10:47
  Speaker 6: to remind you to just be still and know that
• 10:51
  Speaker 6: God is who he said he is, and just continue
• 10:55
  Speaker 6: to have faith and believe and your healing is right
• 10:59
  Speaker 6: on the other side, right. And then also last year
• 11:03
  Speaker 6: I did the journal it's called a Daily Dose of Sunshine,
• 11:08
  Speaker 6: and so this journal is like the start the day
• 11:11
  Speaker 6: with some sunshine mindset and end of the day with some positivity.
• 11:17
  Speaker 6: And yeah, so that's all three of my books. And
• 11:21
  Speaker 6: something else like I'm an acronym queen. I love acronyms,
• 11:24
  Speaker 6: and so this book here, Girl You're Not that desperate.
• 11:28
  Speaker 6: It'll take you from being in despair all the way
• 11:32
  Speaker 6: to evolution. And then the journal actually shows you how
• 11:37
  Speaker 6: to create your own sunshine. And then this one it'll
• 11:43
  Speaker 6: teach you how to hill.
• 11:45
  Speaker 5: So that's my literary journey right now.
• 11:49
  Speaker 6: Also, I am going to be on an anthology that's
• 11:55
  Speaker 6: coming out in July. It's called I Am a Living Testimony,
• 11:59
  Speaker 6: So I'm exed at that. And then in August I
• 12:03
  Speaker 6: am going to publish another book called so Here I Am,
• 12:08
  Speaker 6: And it's like a children's book because it's in the voice.
• 12:11
  Speaker 5: Of my grandson.
• 12:12
  Speaker 6: And at the end of the day, all this was
• 12:15
  Speaker 6: about leaving a lexi for my children, my children's children,
• 12:20
  Speaker 6: for all generations to come, and to.
• 12:23
  Speaker 5: God be all the glory.
• 12:26
  Speaker 4: Wow, you you touched on a lot of things that
• 12:29
  Speaker 4: I'm over here clapping. I am so proud of all
• 12:33
  Speaker 4: the things that you are doing because oftentimes, as survivors,
• 12:39
  Speaker 4: as individuals that have testimonies that have been through tests
• 12:43
  Speaker 4: a lot of time, we sit down on those tests,
• 12:45
  Speaker 4: we sit down on those testimonies and we will not
• 12:47
  Speaker 4: allow people to see how we got through so that
• 12:51
  Speaker 4: they can get through too. So I am so proud
• 12:53
  Speaker 4: of you for sharing in all of your books and
• 12:58
  Speaker 4: allowing your voice to be amplified and allowing that test
• 13:02
  Speaker 4: that you endure to somebody else how you got through
• 13:06
  Speaker 4: and to show them that they too can get through.
• 13:09
  Speaker 4: You are definitely being intentional. You're being intentional about those
• 13:12
  Speaker 4: things that God has called and purpose you to do.
• 13:15
  Speaker 4: I believe in leaving a legacy. I believe that it's
• 13:19
  Speaker 4: all about us being able to leave that greater works
• 13:23
  Speaker 4: because the Word tells us. If you are a believer,
• 13:26
  Speaker 4: you know that he said we should do greater works.
• 13:28
  Speaker 4: And how would people know about those greater works if
• 13:31
  Speaker 4: we don't leave the evidence because we can't change the word,
• 13:34
  Speaker 4: we can't add to it, and we can't take from it.
• 13:37
  Speaker 4: So how would they know the greater works that we
• 13:39
  Speaker 4: have done if we don't leave the evidence? And now
• 13:42
  Speaker 4: it is so important if you have never decided to
• 13:48
  Speaker 4: create a legacy and leave a legacy. Right now it's
• 13:50
  Speaker 4: the most important time because of what is taking place
• 13:54
  Speaker 4: in society and how our legacy is being erased. How
• 14:01
  Speaker 4: to create these things and put these things or it
• 14:05
  Speaker 4: can be told and your story can be left and
• 14:08
  Speaker 4: not be erased. Because a lot of people don't want
• 14:12
  Speaker 4: our stories told. So I'm over here cheering for you.
• 14:19
  Speaker 4: I'm cheering for you and the ladies, and congratulations, congratulations
• 14:26
  Speaker 4: on your nuptials, because yes, at fifty, I just turned
• 14:31
  Speaker 4: fifty April the first, So at fifty and as a
• 14:37
  Speaker 4: single person that is on the dating scene, yes, sometimes
• 14:42
  Speaker 4: you think will I get a second chance at love?
• 14:45
  Speaker 4: So you have just encouraged some of us that are
• 14:49
  Speaker 4: out here, you know, waiting for our bo ass to
• 14:53
  Speaker 4: find us. You know, thank you for dropping that on
• 14:58
  Speaker 4: today because somebody needed to hear that. So thank you
• 15:02
  Speaker 4: for sharing that and encouraging us to stay the course
• 15:07
  Speaker 4: and to keep being that Proverbs thirty one woman so that, yes,
• 15:13
  Speaker 4: our husband can find us, because the words say, a
• 15:15
  Speaker 4: man that finds a wife finds a good thing. So
• 15:17
  Speaker 4: hey continue to be that good thing so that he
• 15:19
  Speaker 4: can find Yes. So yeah, you young lady.
• 15:25
  Speaker 6: Yeah, And to one point that you have just mentioned
• 15:28
  Speaker 6: about people don't want to share my story like this
• 15:32
  Speaker 6: book here, girl, you know that desperate is really real
• 15:36
  Speaker 6: and really raw, and I share like a lot of
• 15:40
  Speaker 6: like personal things about me and I did get some backlash, like,
• 15:44
  Speaker 6: oh my god, you sharing that, you putting that out
• 15:46
  Speaker 6: there you spilling your own tea. But hey, I believe
• 15:49
  Speaker 6: that my past and my experiences doesn't define me because
• 15:54
  Speaker 6: I know who I am and I know whose I am,
• 15:57
  Speaker 6: and that we all fall short, we all make mistakes.
• 16:02
  Speaker 6: But I am grateful that God has allowed me to
• 16:05
  Speaker 6: continue to be here on earth to live out my purpose.
• 16:08
  Speaker 6: And like you said, if I can just share this
• 16:11
  Speaker 6: story to let one person know that if God did
• 16:15
  Speaker 6: it for me, that same God can do it for you,
• 16:18
  Speaker 6: and then it was all worth me spilling my own tea.
• 16:24
  Speaker 5: But yeah, it doesn't.
• 16:26
  Speaker 6: My past doesn't define me, and I believe I went
• 16:28
  Speaker 6: through those experiences not just for myself but for somebody
• 16:32
  Speaker 6: else to know that if God delivered me, if God
• 16:36
  Speaker 6: saved me from out of those situations, from being sexually abused,
• 16:41
  Speaker 6: from living in a domestic violence relationship, he can definitely
• 16:46
  Speaker 6: do that.
• 16:47
  Speaker 5: And I really truly.
• 16:48
  Speaker 6: Believe the best is yet to come if we just
• 16:52
  Speaker 6: trust in God with our whole heart and lean not.
• 16:56
  Speaker 5: Until our own understanding.
• 16:57
  Speaker 6: It's just like I just rely on the world, because yeah,
• 17:02
  Speaker 6: the Word is the truth and life and we will
• 17:06
  Speaker 6: set free, will set free by the truth.
• 17:09
  Speaker 4: And so I'm grateful, Wow, and I'm just looking at
• 17:14
  Speaker 4: your picture and you are definitely a burst of sunshine.
• 17:18
  Speaker 4: So that person that gave you that name, they definitely
• 17:22
  Speaker 4: gave you the right name. God knew, you know that,
• 17:27
  Speaker 4: you know, sometimes he had to change our name, and
• 17:30
  Speaker 4: that was the name that he gave.
• 17:32
  Speaker 3: You because he knew that you.
• 17:35
  Speaker 4: Were gonna be that breath of sunshine for somebody, that
• 17:40
  Speaker 4: you were gonna be that that that that light that
• 17:43
  Speaker 4: somebody was gonna need in their life, you know, and
• 17:47
  Speaker 4: for you to endure and be able to steal. You know,
• 17:51
  Speaker 4: I tell people all the time, you know, a lot
• 17:53
  Speaker 4: of people say, I'm glad I don't look like what
• 17:55
  Speaker 4: I've been through, But I'm glad.
• 17:58
  Speaker 3: I'm glad I look.
• 17:59
  Speaker 4: Just like this because now people can see that you
• 18:03
  Speaker 4: can go through and still come through on the other
• 18:06
  Speaker 4: side and not look like what you went through. So
• 18:09
  Speaker 4: I'm glad I look like. I'm glad I look like
• 18:12
  Speaker 4: it's because what I went through it allowed me to
• 18:16
  Speaker 4: be able to be right here, to be able to
• 18:18
  Speaker 4: be right here. So when when you reminded when people
• 18:22
  Speaker 4: say I'm glad you don't look like what you Yeah,
• 18:24
  Speaker 4: I'm glad because you look good. Yes, indeed that can
• 18:29
  Speaker 4: look good. So you say you got some things coming up,

  Speaker 6: And then I see, uh, my my big sister, my

  Speaker 6: my daughter used to date her son and uh, you

  Speaker 6: know he he's unfortunately not with us right now, but
• 20:40
  Speaker 6: that's how I met her at that moment. So we

  Speaker 6: met during a period of time that wasn't the best
• 20:49
  Speaker 6: of times. But I'm grateful to God that our past
• 20:52
  Speaker 6: did cross because she is such an inspiration to me.
• 20:57
  Speaker 6: Uh And I don't think I ever share that with
• 21:00
  Speaker 6: her before, but I love her and just seeing how
• 21:03
  Speaker 6: strong she is after losing Ashton and just being a
• 21:09
  Speaker 6: beacon and a light for the world as a mother
• 21:13
  Speaker 6: that is going through grieving. I really admire her strength
• 21:17
  Speaker 6: for that, and so I just want to let her
• 21:20
  Speaker 6: know that I love her for that and just keep
• 21:22
  Speaker 6: on keeping on and being current, sister, because people are
• 21:28
  Speaker 6: seeing you, and I love what you're doing with your
• 21:31
  Speaker 6: author lounge and the anthology and all the different outlets
• 21:37
  Speaker 6: that you're creating to and I'm just super proud of
• 21:41
  Speaker 6: you and glad to be a part of the movement
• 21:45
  Speaker 6: because that's what I was sharing with Queen Angela. I
• 21:47
  Speaker 6: got to her through you, So you know, I just
• 21:51
  Speaker 6: thank God for connection and collaboration and at the end
• 21:56
  Speaker 6: of it all, God is going to be glorified, and
• 22:00
  Speaker 6: so I'm just thankful for that. And I see, my sister.

  Speaker 4: You are Definitely you are, definitely you're You're hitting on

  Speaker 4: a lot of important things because yes, we we are
• 22:15
  Speaker 4: supposed to be helpmates one to another, We're supposed to
• 22:18
  Speaker 4: be each other's helpmates. And definitely, Simon has definitely been
• 22:23
  Speaker 4: a beacon of light to many. She has not only
• 22:27
  Speaker 4: endured the loss of her son and going through grief,
• 22:30
  Speaker 4: but in all that she has endured.
• 22:33
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 22:33
  Speaker 4: A lot of people may not know, but she had
• 22:37
  Speaker 4: brain surgery back last year and had to go through
• 22:43
  Speaker 4: therapy and it's still this is still going to do therapy.
• 22:46
  Speaker 4: So she's definitely a true example of healing, a true
• 22:54
  Speaker 4: example of empowerment. We're doing a conference called Matters of
• 22:58
  Speaker 4: the Heart, and when God dropped that word heard in
• 23:01
  Speaker 4: my spirit. He said, healing, empowerment, align, resilience, and trauma
• 23:08
  Speaker 4: no more, and she definitely aligns with all of them.
• 23:10
  Speaker 4: And when she wanted to be a part of it,
• 23:12
  Speaker 4: she chose healing. And she's definitely going through a faith
• 23:18
  Speaker 4: of healing. And I watched God because you talk about
• 23:21
  Speaker 4: a young lady that had a at a.
• 23:27
  Speaker 3: Walking around with a brain tom.
• 23:28
  Speaker 4: Her went to the emergency room and I think she
• 23:31
  Speaker 4: had to have emergency surgery. And I remember on Thanksgiving.
• 23:35
  Speaker 4: On Thanksgiving, I remember her having a seizure. So for
• 23:41
  Speaker 4: her to be doing all that she's doing and for
• 23:45
  Speaker 4: her to constantly, you know, she may not show up
• 23:49
  Speaker 4: how she wants to show up, but the fact that
• 23:51
  Speaker 4: she's showing up and being an example for somebody else.
• 23:56
  Speaker 4: Her and this other young lady that I always talk about,
• 23:59
  Speaker 4: her name is al Elma had a stroke a I'm
• 24:04
  Speaker 4: talking about a paralyzing stroke that immobilized her and she
• 24:10
  Speaker 4: still shows up to do a podcast. She's been a
• 24:12
  Speaker 4: host on this network here for the last three seasons,
• 24:17
  Speaker 4: and she has done it from her hospital bed. When
• 24:22
  Speaker 4: she came to me and told me she wanted to
• 24:25
  Speaker 4: I didn't know that she had had a stroke and
• 24:27

  Speaker 6: bent Ladies. So I'm just grateful to God that he's

  Speaker 6: that that same Jesus that healed her.

  Speaker 6: And so I'm able to stand up straight and run

  Speaker 6: and jump and praise God because last year I wasn't

  Speaker 4: I just wanted to share his goodness, and he allowed
