- 0:08Speaker 1: He's actually in the intro there.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Nolan Ironato joining us right now, new member of the
- 0:12Speaker 2: Arizona Diamondbacks. Nolan, great to see you man, and has
- 0:14Speaker 2: the off season going for you getting set up for
- 0:17Speaker 2: a new spot.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going great, man, Thanks you guys for having me.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm excited back in talking Stick for spring training, which
- 0:26Speaker 1: is great and uh no, man, I'm excited. Great young team.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It should be fun.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I forgot right, you know, talking Stick pretty well.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Confused, He's gonna get confused. He's gonna go in the
- 0:38Speaker 3: wrong door. He's gonna park on the Rocky Side, and
- 0:40Speaker 3: he's not gonna realize he has to go to the Diamondback.
- 0:42Speaker 3: So he's gonna walk in the wrong door. He's gonna
- 0:44Speaker 3: open the door and there he's gonna go. Wait, these
- 0:46Speaker 3: aren't the Rockies, I remember, Sorry, strong door.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I did drive by. I usually stop at the Starbucks
- 0:52Speaker 1: right there, and then I kind of did go around
- 0:53Speaker 1: the Rocky Side first, and I had to go make
- 0:55Speaker 1: a big of big loop, so I did kind of
- 0:57Speaker 1: toss of the old way I used to.
- 0:59Speaker 3: So is that why you agreed then to go to
- 1:03Speaker 3: the Diamondbacks Because they had the same spring training side
- 1:06Speaker 3: is the Rockies. So you felt at home.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it felt close to home, you know, obviously being
- 1:10Speaker 1: in Scottsdale for sure, But no, I mean I picked
- 1:13Speaker 1: that team because it's, like I said, it's close to
- 1:15Speaker 1: home being in Arizona. You know, I'm from Orange County.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And then also it's a great young team with great
- 1:22Speaker 1: young players, and it'll be nice to be surrounded by
- 1:26Speaker 1: guys like that, and being a veteran player, you know,
- 1:29Speaker 1: as you know, as veteran players, it's nice to be
- 1:31Speaker 1: surrounded by a young group. It makes you feel younger
- 1:33Speaker 1: and kind of just helps you boosts you up a
- 1:35Speaker 1: little bit. And I'm excited about that.
- 1:38Speaker 4: How tough was that was? This decision? Obviously, you know
- 1:41Speaker 4: we hear rumors, but only you go through and actually know, like, oh,
- 1:45Speaker 4: I was really thinking about these different decisions and how much,
- 1:49Speaker 4: how long or how tough was it to weigh those
- 1:51Speaker 4: different decisions.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I mean it was pretty tough. I mean obviously, we
- 1:55Speaker 1: built our you know, we built our family. You know,
- 1:56Speaker 1: we had our babies in Saint Louis. You know, we
- 1:58Speaker 1: had our family there and you know, we had a
- 2:01Speaker 1: great house, great we lived in a great neighborhood. And
- 2:04Speaker 1: you know, honestly, when I opted in in twenty two,
- 2:06Speaker 1: I thought that would probably be where I ended, you know,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I finished my career. But as you guys know baseball,
- 2:11Speaker 1: things happened fast and things change and it just comes
- 2:15Speaker 1: with the territory. And you know, I think with where
- 2:18Speaker 1: they're headed, and I thought a fresh start for myself
- 2:21Speaker 1: would be great also, So you know, I just saw
- 2:23Speaker 1: it as an opportunity to go play show who I
- 2:25Speaker 1: am and I'm excited for the season.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Nolan, How does that work?
- 2:29Speaker 3: Did the Cardinals come to you and say, hey, we
- 2:31Speaker 3: got an opportunity for you or did you or did
- 2:33Speaker 3: they get because you see in other sports, you don't
- 2:35Speaker 3: really say it in baseball very often, right, You see
- 2:38Speaker 3: it in some sports where they say, hey, we'll allow
- 2:40Speaker 3: whoever quarterback to find his own trader. In the NBA
- 2:43Speaker 3: will allow whoever to find their own trade. Did the
- 2:45Speaker 3: Cardinals come to you and say, hey, if you can
- 2:47Speaker 3: find a place you're happy, or did you give them
- 2:49Speaker 3: a list of teams that you said, hey, I'll go to.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Because you know, your situation is so unique where you
- 2:55Speaker 3: said no to Houston from what we heard, right, and
- 2:58Speaker 3: then Arizona came and you said, yeah, I'll go there.
- 3:01Speaker 4: So how does that start? How does that conversation start?
- 3:04Speaker 1: Well, I started I like the end of the season,
- 3:06Speaker 1: like right before the season ended. Me and him met
- 3:08Speaker 1: and we talked about, how, give me a list of
- 3:11Speaker 1: teams that you'd be willing to and I gave them
- 3:14Speaker 1: the teams that you know i'd be willing to leave,
- 3:17Speaker 1: you know, that I would move to. And it's just
- 3:20Speaker 1: kind of like some of those teams are interested, some
- 3:22Speaker 1: of them aren't. Some of them don't want to give
- 3:25Speaker 1: up what they want, you know, all those things, the
- 3:26Speaker 1: money and all. You know, it's a pretty complicated process,
- 3:29Speaker 1: to be honest with you, but you know, honestly, having
- 3:31Speaker 1: a full note trade cause is probably the greatest thing
- 3:34Speaker 1: for a player to have. And I just thought, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: I knew that I didn't play great last year obviously,
- 3:42Speaker 1: dealt with some injuries, and I also didn't perform the
- 3:43Speaker 1: way I wanted, so I could see how teams some
- 3:45Speaker 1: teams didn't want me, So you know, I just wanted
- 3:47Speaker 1: an opportunity to go somewhere, and Arizona showed interest pretty early,
- 3:51Speaker 1: and I saw that as a place that you know,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I've played in Chase Field for so long. Obviously playing
- 3:55Speaker 1: with the Rockies, I know the NLS, and I felt
- 3:58Speaker 1: very comfortable, and obviously moving my family there was kind
- 4:01Speaker 1: of a no brainer.
- 4:03Speaker 4: It's playing third part of that and the part about
- 4:06Speaker 4: Chase Field. I looked up your numbers at Chase Field
- 4:08Speaker 4: your first two years. You were kind of since then,
- 4:11Speaker 4: You're right, you kill it in Chase Field. See, I
- 4:14Speaker 4: get it. You feel a little feel a little sexy
- 4:17Speaker 4: in that sense. But playing third did that matter a
- 4:20Speaker 4: lot because we heard we heard possibly a Padres moving
- 4:23Speaker 4: to first base. And when you're having those discussions, do
- 4:25Speaker 4: they say, hey, you know this team would want you,
- 4:28Speaker 4: but it's as a first baseman and that's part of
- 4:30Speaker 4: your decision.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Well, there was definitely comfort in like playing you know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: just sticking at third base and that's what I want
- 4:37Speaker 1: to play. But I was very open playing first. I
- 4:40Speaker 1: like it. I love taking grumble I mean, I love
- 4:41Speaker 1: taking grumballs anywhere, but I love teaing grumballs. At first.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I would do anything, you know, whatever they asked. I
- 4:46Speaker 1: didn't mind, you know, Like I said, Arizona was just
- 4:49Speaker 1: a place that showed the most interest and uh, it
- 4:52Speaker 1: was obviously one of my yesses of the team listed
- 4:54Speaker 1: that I sent, and uh so I just said, yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I mean, if you can get it done, then I'm
- 4:58Speaker 1: good to go. So if Arizona would a told me me, hey,
- 5:00Speaker 1: we need you to play first base, I would have been like,
- 5:02Speaker 1: that's no problem. I would have no problem with it.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I know what happened.
- 5:05Speaker 3: You wanted to live in the same city for spring
- 5:07Speaker 3: training and the season.
- 5:08Speaker 4: That's smart.
- 5:09Speaker 3: That's like going to Arizona. Yeah, definitely, And so you
- 5:16Speaker 3: can get home too if you need to get home
- 5:18Speaker 3: in your class. But I mean, I know we're harping
- 5:21Speaker 3: on this, but it's just such a unique situation. Last year,
- 5:23Speaker 3: the rumors were you're going to Houston, and then you
- 5:25Speaker 3: say no, and then everyone's like this, Nolan ar Not
- 5:28Speaker 3: is a terrible human being because he doesn't want to
- 5:29Speaker 3: go to Houston.
- 5:30Speaker 4: He doesn't want to win. Right.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I've known you for a long time. I've known nothing
- 5:33Speaker 3: about other than you want to win, and you're a
- 5:36Speaker 3: great dude, and you want to compete and you teach
- 5:38Speaker 3: young guys and you come to work every day. Do
- 5:40Speaker 3: those feelings hurt you a little bit when you see
- 5:42Speaker 3: that stuff? Because someone that knows you from the outside.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I know that's not true. I know you want to
- 5:47Speaker 3: win and I know you want to be on a
- 5:48Speaker 3: good team.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, obviously, I think I think when trade
- 5:54Speaker 1: stuff like this comes up and you have a full
- 5:56Speaker 1: no trade and you know, you obviously wish it doesn't
- 5:59Speaker 1: come to the public, but it's just going to because
- 6:02Speaker 1: you know, it's part of the business and it just
- 6:03Speaker 1: you know, things get shared. I have the utmost respect
- 6:07Speaker 1: for Houston. I've said this so many times. You know,
- 6:09Speaker 1: they traded Kyle Tucker, Bregman wasn't going back. There was
- 6:14Speaker 1: a lot of things that I was just a little
- 6:15Speaker 1: hesitant at the time. And I respect all those players
- 6:19Speaker 1: that are there and that organization. They're they're great. But yeah, man,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I mean I didn't enjoy the things that people were
- 6:24Speaker 1: saying about me, but you know, you kind of just
- 6:26Speaker 1: block it out. You know, it's just one ear and
- 6:28Speaker 1: out the other. I I know who I am, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know me. I think my teammates know me so,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and people are in the league know who I am.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So you know, I try not to show nobody up
- 6:37Speaker 1: or just spect me, but you know, it's my life
- 6:39Speaker 1: and I have a family, and I got to make
- 6:41Speaker 1: the decisions for it, and it wasn't an easy one,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but it was the one I went with.
- 6:47Speaker 4: You mentioned this several times. You get to go play
- 6:49Speaker 4: with some young players who from Afar, since you're only
- 6:53Speaker 4: played against them on the Diamondbacks, are you like, I
- 6:56Speaker 4: don't want to see this guy play one hundred and
- 6:58Speaker 4: sixty two games like this is this is legit. It's
- 7:01Speaker 4: no shade to anybody else. But you have to choose
- 7:04Speaker 4: which in your teammates you're gonna like more before you
- 7:06Speaker 4: get there. So that's what I'm asking to do.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Well, I mean Corbyn Carroll special, I mean I think
- 7:11Speaker 1: when you he's one of the players that you play
- 7:14Speaker 1: against that makes you pretty uncomfortable on a baseball field
- 7:16Speaker 1: playing against him, because he could really run. He's gonna
- 7:19Speaker 1: get the extra base, he's gonna steal bags, and he's
- 7:21Speaker 1: got serious power. So like players like that, they're rare
- 7:24Speaker 1: to come by. I think he's one of the top
- 7:28Speaker 1: you know, I know he was a top ten, they
- 7:29Speaker 1: voted him top ten, but I think he's like top
- 7:31Speaker 1: five player in the game, position player, that's for sure.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And I just think the stress he causes for other teams.
- 7:36Speaker 1: If he hits a ground ball, you have to get
- 7:38Speaker 1: rid of it quick. Extra bases. Like I said, stealing
- 7:40Speaker 1: base is in power. It's just a pretty special player
- 7:43Speaker 1: and I'm excited to watch him go about it his business.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I've heard great things.
- 7:47Speaker 4: You know.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Obviously, I've played against Katel for a long time and
- 7:50Speaker 1: he's special. And then obviously I'm excited to play the
- 7:52Speaker 1: left side with Perdomo, who's an absolute stud. So, I mean,
- 7:55Speaker 1: these guys are good. They got some great players, you know.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Moreno's got a chance to be great. It's with great players.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So but Corbyn Carroll, for me, is one of the
- 8:03Speaker 1: best players in the game. So I'm excited to watch him.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Damn, you should be on the PR team for the
- 8:07Speaker 3: Diamondbacks right now. This got me pumped up. You got
- 8:10Speaker 3: me pumped up to go. I mean, wow, I can't
- 8:14Speaker 3: wait to go to Diamondbacks.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Cam.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Now, I'm super excited about this team because listen, hey,
- 8:19Speaker 3: you guys get any kind of pitching. Perdomo is one
- 8:22Speaker 3: of the most underrated people you mentioned him that you've
- 8:24Speaker 3: ever seen. Look up his war for all those analytics
- 8:27Speaker 3: moving out there, you won't be you won't believe it
- 8:29Speaker 3: when you see a plus. The way he stood up
- 8:31Speaker 3: for Marte last year was absolutely awesome when he had
- 8:33Speaker 3: problems with his mom and people were wearing him out. Unbelievable, unbelievable.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I want to go back to you, just here for
- 8:38Speaker 3: a second. People are saying, you're you're on the you're
- 8:41Speaker 3: on the decline, right, how do you fight that? I
- 8:43Speaker 3: played till I was forty years old. My year thirty
- 8:46Speaker 3: nine I had or thirty eight I had a great year.
- 8:48Speaker 3: My year thirty nine four, turning forty, I absolutely stunk.
- 8:51Speaker 3: It was my last year. How do you fight the
- 8:53Speaker 3: decline that people say, Oh, his defense is falling off,
- 8:55Speaker 3: he didn't have any power anymore.
- 8:57Speaker 4: How do you fight that?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's not easy. I mean the fact
- 9:02Speaker 1: that you played till forty is awesome. I don't think
- 9:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna want to do that. That's hard to do.
- 9:06Speaker 1: But you know your body when you play a lot
- 9:09Speaker 1: of games, as you know, and you know better than
- 9:11Speaker 1: I do, being a cat you could both of you
- 9:12Speaker 1: guys being catchers. It's just the wear and tear on
- 9:14Speaker 1: your body.
- 9:15Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I took my defense really serious and I played hard
- 9:18Speaker 1: on both sides of the ball. And I think there's
- 9:22Speaker 1: some things in my off season training program that I
- 9:24Speaker 1: had to change that I felt I was a little
- 9:26Speaker 1: late to recognize that. I'm hopeful that will come into
- 9:29Speaker 1: fruition this year. As far as like taking care of
- 9:32Speaker 1: your hips a little better, making sure your lower back
- 9:34Speaker 1: is feeling good, your core is strong. I mean I
- 9:37Speaker 1: always kind of did that, but it was easier when
- 9:39Speaker 1: you're younger. When you get older, it has to be
- 9:41Speaker 1: like something you're super focused on. So I changed a
- 9:43Speaker 1: lot of way I went about my business this offseason,
- 9:46Speaker 1: changed my diet, and I feel better. I feel great
- 9:50Speaker 1: right now. I've been working hard changing some things in
- 9:52Speaker 1: my swing, and obviously I think those things that I
- 9:57Speaker 1: think are going to be huge for me, because this
- 9:58Speaker 1: offseason I felt really good, So I think, you know,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I got to go out there and do it. Obviously,
- 10:04Speaker 1: I could sit here and talk about all I want,
- 10:05Speaker 1: but uh, there's some things I'm doing this off season
- 10:07Speaker 1: that I don't usually do, as far as like challenging
- 10:11Speaker 1: myself getting on the machine earlier, just just making myself
- 10:14Speaker 1: a little bit uncomfortable in the cage and see if
- 10:16Speaker 1: my swing breaks down, and trying to like make sure
- 10:19Speaker 1: I can able be able to counter that when the
- 10:20Speaker 1: season starts.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Compare where you were the last two off seasons to
- 10:25Speaker 4: where you are now. Do you feel like you're advanced,
- 10:28Speaker 4: because at this is the point in the off season
- 10:30Speaker 4: where every year ione's like I'm the best. I might
- 10:33Speaker 4: not even make it out this year. Yeah. Where compares
- 10:36Speaker 4: physically how you feel, because that's really the only thing
- 10:38Speaker 4: that gets in the way when you get older is
- 10:41Speaker 4: how do you feel you're playing through something the whole time,
- 10:45Speaker 4: or your body feels like I'm resting, I'm ready to go.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I think this is the first off season
- 10:52Speaker 1: where I didn't stop working out when the season was over.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Obviously getting hurt had a lot to do with that.
- 10:56Speaker 1: You know, usually after a season, you know, you take
- 10:58Speaker 1: like two weeks going vacation or whatever. Offseason. You know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: we had a baby, so I didn't really have a
- 11:03Speaker 1: whole lot of time to take a break, but I
- 11:04Speaker 1: also made sure I didn't. I just kept lifting and
- 11:07Speaker 1: kind of being in the gym every other day and
- 11:09Speaker 1: kind of you know, like four days a week and
- 11:11Speaker 1: just kind of just making sure my body feels good.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And I think as I've gotten older. That's what I've
- 11:16Speaker 1: needed to do. When I'm younger, I could take you know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: two and a half weeks off and get in the
- 11:21Speaker 1: gym and be like, all right, I'm pretty sore, but
- 11:23Speaker 1: I'm good to go. Like I think, as you get older,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you just can't take too much time away from the
- 11:26Speaker 1: gym or working out or just sweating and you know,
- 11:29Speaker 1: doing some things because I don't know, you just feel
- 11:32Speaker 1: old when you just feel a lot older when you don't.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So just those things. I've been really focused on that,
- 11:37Speaker 1: making sure I'm not taking two days off. And it's
- 11:40Speaker 1: really been I think it's been paying dividends. Is offseason
- 11:42Speaker 1: and I'm hopeful that it'll be a great year.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Hey, welcome to old age. And okay, yeah, it only
- 11:49Speaker 3: gets worse. Okay, it doesn't, trust me. It doesn't get
- 11:51Speaker 3: any easier. Even when you stop playing and you're sitting
- 11:54Speaker 3: off stop. It crats when you sit at home and
- 11:56Speaker 3: you're just like, oh, I've played for so long, I
- 11:58Speaker 3: have so many gold gloves, and you're like, I don't
- 12:00Speaker 3: want to go work out today. And then a month
- 12:02Speaker 3: goes by in your and you look in the mirror,
- 12:03Speaker 3: you get you know what, the worst is you'll see
- 12:05Speaker 3: you'll get the you'll get the picture with your family
- 12:08Speaker 3: and you're you'll have like a belly and you're like,
- 12:11Speaker 3: I gotta get back in the gym. So don't ever
- 12:14Speaker 3: stop doing that. I'm just telling you, just don't ever
- 12:17Speaker 3: stop because that day, that day comes for all of us,
- 12:19Speaker 3: except for maybe scoy Bron, who will be jacked until
- 12:21Speaker 3: he's he's dead. Yeah, just understand that that day never
- 12:27Speaker 3: never ever goes away. All Right, when you get the
- 12:30Speaker 3: spring training, what's your role going to be on this team?
- 12:32Speaker 3: Because it's not like the Diamondbacks are young, but they're
- 12:36Speaker 3: also not ten year vets, kind of like some of
- 12:40Speaker 3: the lot of the guys you had when you first
- 12:42Speaker 3: got to Saint Louis. So is your role going to
- 12:44Speaker 3: be a mentor to? I mean, Marte's got time, Corman
- 12:48Speaker 3: Carroll's got time, a lot of these guys. If you
- 12:50Speaker 3: don't have some time, right, these guys have a few years.
- 12:53Speaker 3: So are you gonna be more of the leader type?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Are you gonna be more sit back and watch and
- 12:56Speaker 3: then wherever they put you, because that's it's it's a
- 12:59Speaker 3: different team then, not young and not old.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I think you know obviously when I first
- 13:05Speaker 1: get there, get to know a lot of these guys,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you know, I kind of I went there last week
- 13:09Speaker 1: to kind of try to get to know, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 1: the coaches and some of the players, but definitely, uh,
- 13:13Speaker 1: probably be a little bit more quiet, watch the way
- 13:15Speaker 1: everyone works, get to know them, but you know, obviously
- 13:18Speaker 1: be a mentor at them and and just be there.
- 13:20Speaker 1: But also, you know, I have a job to do,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and let's play a good third base. And I'm excited
- 13:24Speaker 1: to play with these guys. You know, my expectations or
- 13:27Speaker 1: they're always high, maybe higher than what they should be,
- 13:29Speaker 1: but you know, I don't you know, that's the only
- 13:32Speaker 1: way to go, I guess, and my expectations go out
- 13:35Speaker 1: there and play and help this team win ball games.
- 13:37Speaker 4: All right. No, when you were in Saint Louis, and
- 13:40Speaker 4: obviously you already mentioned it, you opted in back in
- 13:42Speaker 4: twenty two, did you see the team dynamic? Did you
- 13:47Speaker 4: see it change that it was going to change as
- 13:50Speaker 4: much as it did. And had you known that ahead
- 13:53Speaker 4: of time, were you like, eh, maybe I wouldn't have
- 13:56Speaker 4: stayed there or would it have been different? Everybody knew
- 13:59Speaker 4: Yachty and Wayne, Right, we're gonna be gone. But did
- 14:01Speaker 4: you think the ORG was going to change the way
- 14:04Speaker 4: that it did.
- 14:05Speaker 1: No, definitely not. I mean, you know, the Cardinals, I think,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you know, I've seen twenty two was so much fun
- 14:12Speaker 1: watching Albert do his thing, being you know, we were
- 14:14Speaker 1: a really good team. Then obviously in twenty three we
- 14:16Speaker 1: signed Wilson, who was a good signing, and you know,
- 14:19Speaker 1: I thought we were just gonna be good. You know,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I think the Cardinals have always found a way to
- 14:22Speaker 1: be good, even when on paper it may not look
- 14:25Speaker 1: like they're gonna be great, but they you know, we
- 14:29Speaker 1: always found a way and they always did. And I
- 14:32Speaker 1: think I didn't expect that this turnaround to be the
- 14:36Speaker 1: way it has been. You know, I thought twenty three
- 14:39Speaker 1: was obviously extremely tough. The first losing season and I
- 14:42Speaker 1: don't know how many years, so that was extremely disappointing.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But you know, I think, you know, it's just changes
- 14:50Speaker 1: happened fast. I don't know, it's hard to even explained.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I mean, it happened so fast. It was like twenty
- 14:54Speaker 1: two won the division. You know, obviously we got we
- 14:56Speaker 1: lost the Phillies, but we felt like we were really
- 14:58Speaker 1: good that year twenty three going in, we thought we
- 15:00Speaker 1: were going to be pretty good too, and then all
- 15:01Speaker 1: of a sudden, you know, losing season and then everything
- 15:04Speaker 1: kind of changed after that. But no, I didn't expect
- 15:06Speaker 1: it for sure, and I was actually kind of surprised.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I don't know if the new schedule got to us,
- 15:12Speaker 1: and you know, you don't play the division all the time.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I don't know if that was part of it, but
- 15:16Speaker 1: you know, I'm not sure what happened.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it's okay, you're not You're not there anymore.
- 15:20Speaker 4: We don't have to worry about the Cardinals anymore.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Snakes now we're snakes now, all right, speaking of being
- 15:25Speaker 3: a snake, And this is kind of a weird transition,
- 15:27Speaker 3: so don't get mad at me. You played for Team
- 15:30Speaker 3: USA twice, okay, Yeah, now you're on the other team.
- 15:34Speaker 3: So you're like a trader because you went to Puerto Rico.
- 15:37Speaker 3: So I know your mother. Your mother's Puerto Rican So
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'm not I'm not getting on you at all. But
- 15:42Speaker 3: it's pretty cool that you can play twice for USA
- 15:45Speaker 3: Gold and Silver and now you get to go play
- 15:48Speaker 3: for another team. That's pretty awesome, right.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean obviously playing for usc USA was great.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I've already had some pretty harsh dms coming at me
- 15:59Speaker 1: by some people. But uh, you know what, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: this will be the last time I get to do this,
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yachtie asked me, and honestly, that fired me up. He
- 16:11Speaker 1: asked me at the end of it last year, our
- 16:13Speaker 1: end of last season, and it kind of fired me up.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And I've been paring, preparing this whole off season for it,
- 16:18Speaker 1: and uh, I'm excited, and you know, I'm excited to
- 16:21Speaker 1: represent my Latin side that I have. You know, I
- 16:23Speaker 1: got the Cuban side, I got the Puerto Rican side,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and obviously my mom, so you know, I'm excited. My
- 16:27Speaker 1: mom is super punk. But I'm not too concerned about
- 16:31Speaker 1: everyone's feelings. Like I said, this will be the last
- 16:35Speaker 1: time I get to do this, and I'm excited to
- 16:36Speaker 1: open up in Puerto Rico and help his team win
- 16:38Speaker 1: and play with some great players.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Wait, wait, tell us about some of those d ms
- 16:42Speaker 4: where any of them you're have any of your USA
- 16:44Speaker 4: teammates been the ones that have reached out to you
- 16:47Speaker 4: giving you a hard time? Or is this just all
- 16:49Speaker 4: all narps?
- 16:51Speaker 1: No? Yeah, yeah, it's just all random. I had one
- 16:54Speaker 1: guy sent me him my USA Jersey. He threw it
- 16:57Speaker 1: in the trash. I'm like, all right, And then I
- 17:01Speaker 1: had a couple other people say I'm a trader, and
- 17:04Speaker 1: I'm like, listen, I mean I didn't get asked to
- 17:06Speaker 1: play for USA, and well, actually the USA team there's
- 17:09Speaker 1: only a few guys on that team from the twenty
- 17:11Speaker 1: three team, and uh, listen, I mean it's baseball. It's
- 17:17Speaker 1: not a big deal. But I'm excited to play for
- 17:19Speaker 1: Puerto Rico and if we end up playing USA, I
- 17:22Speaker 1: think that'd be pretty cool.
- 17:23Speaker 3: By the way, let's just first of all, don't read
- 17:26Speaker 3: the comments. That's the lesson on FT today, because we've
- 17:28Speaker 3: already had a Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 1: My brother, my cousins get get a laugh at it.
- 17:32Speaker 1: They always send me like the funniest things when people
- 17:34Speaker 1: rip me and stuff like that.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's fun. As long as you can laugh
- 17:38Speaker 3: at it, then it's fine. Then you can oh, yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 3: for sure. But if you take him too serious, don't
- 17:42Speaker 3: read the comments. But yeah, what you said, well, what
- 17:45Speaker 3: you said right there was exactly the point. USA didn't
- 17:48Speaker 3: ask you. And nobody says, you know, to yachty right
- 17:51Speaker 3: because as Adam Wayne Wright once told us, YACHTI has
- 17:55Speaker 3: a neck tattoo, and you don't mess with guys with
- 17:57Speaker 3: neck tattoos, right, So if Yachty calls you and says
- 18:00Speaker 3: you have to play, then you have to play.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta listen, man, he's uh he's the kabayo man.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You gotta listen to him when he talks, you listen.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And uh. I love Yadi.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Man.
- 18:11Speaker 1: He's one of the best people of smartest people I've
- 18:13Speaker 1: ever played with. And it was an honor for him
- 18:15Speaker 1: to ask me, and the fact that he thought about
- 18:17Speaker 1: me it fired me up.
- 18:18Speaker 3: And by the way, before we let you go, first
- 18:20Speaker 3: of all, I played with the Yaudia, I love Yadi. Also,
- 18:23Speaker 3: I never realized you had such like the so Cal
- 18:25Speaker 3: surfer guy accent. Like all the times I've had conversations
- 18:28Speaker 3: with you, I've never really caught on to like the
- 18:30Speaker 3: so Cal surfer, but with your whole vibe today I applauded.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I I tipped my cab and I applaud it today.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I mean, I just I mean, I didn't just yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I mean, I'm I just came on here and just yeah, man,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I appreciate that. Thank you.
- 18:44Speaker 4: No, it's it's it's cool.
- 18:45Speaker 3: I wish I wish, I wish, I wish I had
- 18:48Speaker 3: that that vibe, okay, instead of the superintense I can't
- 18:52Speaker 3: get enough, you know, But the so cal vibe is
- 18:54Speaker 3: something I guess.
- 18:55Speaker 1: You grew up in the off season. Man, you know
- 18:57Speaker 1: the O first haven't come yet and all that stuff.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Sleep, you sleep a little bit more calm. I want
- 19:04Speaker 4: to go back to ya.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Sleeping great right now, I'm sleeping great. Right now?
- 19:08Speaker 4: You play with YACHTI now you're gonna play for yachty.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Do you think he can manage? Not? Can he manage
- 19:14Speaker 4: a team? And like does he know the x's and o's,
- 19:17Speaker 4: But can he do two interviews every single day for
- 19:21Speaker 4: one hundred and sixty two days plus spring training? Where
- 19:24Speaker 4: is that? Like? Is there something that's like ah, man,
- 19:27Speaker 4: Like I don't know, Like he's just so intense and
- 19:30Speaker 4: locked onto the field.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Absolutely he can. Being around him, he is really intense.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And I wouldn't be surprised if there are some bad
- 19:40Speaker 1: questions being asking those interviews, he would let them know,
- 19:42Speaker 1: like that's not a good question, but he would He
- 19:45Speaker 1: would most definitely be really good at it. He knows
- 19:49Speaker 1: he loves the game of baseball. He's the smartest man
- 19:52Speaker 1: I've ever been around. He would absolutely be great coach.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I really do believe that. You know, he's smart or
- 20:00Speaker 1: he knows what people he wants to have surrounded by him.
- 20:02Speaker 1: He's not someone that that I've seen so far, even
- 20:05Speaker 1: because he's coaching in you know, Venezuela. He's coached, he's
- 20:08Speaker 1: been trying to coach all the time. You know, he
- 20:10Speaker 1: wouldn't surround himself with people that aren't smart either. He'd
- 20:13Speaker 1: make sure he's surround himself with some of the best
- 20:14Speaker 1: coaches to make sure he's constantly getting better and learning.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Like he's like that, he's he's he's a special one
- 20:21Speaker 1: for sure. I Mean I don't know, I wasn't all
- 20:23Speaker 1: playing with him and like he was like managing while playing.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I mean it was like he's so smart, like he
- 20:31Speaker 1: was above and beyond everyone else. I Mean, he was
- 20:33Speaker 1: thinking like the way coaches think now, Like you know,
- 20:36Speaker 1: like I don't know how it was back in the day,
- 20:38Speaker 1: but like teams are not afraid of walk guys now
- 20:40Speaker 1: because they like they just love the matchup against you
- 20:43Speaker 1: know whoever. Yeah, he's been doing that, Like he's been
- 20:45Speaker 1: all over those things, like way before everyone else. He
- 20:48Speaker 1: you know, he just thinks outside the box and he's
- 20:50Speaker 1: the smartest baseball guy I've ever seen.
- 20:54Speaker 2: No on last one, let's go off the field, so
- 20:56Speaker 2: I'll give you the floor here wherever you want to
- 20:59Speaker 2: go with this. But but I'd say you're a wine
- 21:01Speaker 2: aficionado or a huge fan involved business wise, so just
- 21:05Speaker 2: want to lay out whether that's you know, what your
- 21:08Speaker 2: world and wine is like, or a favorite bottle or
- 21:12Speaker 2: just your passion. We always like to get something off
- 21:14Speaker 2: the field that you're really into, and I think that's
- 21:16Speaker 2: the lay up.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Diamond and Keys our wine. We're really excited
- 21:21Speaker 1: about it. I don't know. Yeah, you guys got that. Well,
- 21:23Speaker 1: thank you. Well. I appreciate you guys doing that. Yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and uh, it's it's a great cab. Obviously I'm biased.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I think it's the best cab out there. I know
- 21:32Speaker 1: some great ones, but it's really great. And obviously teaming
- 21:36Speaker 1: up with Klay Thompson and Joe Harden and Joe McLean,
- 21:40Speaker 1: these guys that they work extremely hard on it and
- 21:43Speaker 1: we think it could be really great. I would, Uh,
- 21:46Speaker 1: if I see you guys in spring training, maybe I'll
- 21:47Speaker 1: bring you guys a bottle. You guys can let me know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you can give me an honest critic. But we're really
- 21:51Speaker 1: excited about it. We're just trying to keep it moving
- 21:53Speaker 1: and get it out there. But it's it's very good
- 21:56Speaker 1: and we're excited for the future. I love that. How
- 21:59Speaker 1: can people get their hands on it? Can?
- 22:01Speaker 2: Can you order cases?
- 22:02Speaker 1: You got to be in stores for it. No, you
- 22:05Speaker 1: can order cases online and stuff like that. Yes. Absolutely, Okay,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I know my dad's watching. He's gonna order a case.
- 22:11Speaker 3: That's I'll be expecting a case in my front door
- 22:16Speaker 3: in about a week.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean absolutely, if you and you could be honest,
- 22:24Speaker 1: you can let us know what you guys think. We're
- 22:26Speaker 1: we feel very good about it. But yeah, we will
- 22:28Speaker 1: definitely get some bottles out to you guys.
- 22:30Speaker 3: But by the way, hold on, before he goes, I
- 22:32Speaker 3: have to ask him one question. He was the first
- 22:35Speaker 3: guy that didn't wear his team colors on his batting
- 22:39Speaker 3: gloves and his shoes. Because if when you remember you
- 22:42Speaker 3: were at the Rockies, you had like the color shirt
- 22:44Speaker 3: on that you have now on your cleats, right, it
- 22:47Speaker 3: was like and I was like damn. I was like, damn,
- 22:50Speaker 3: how come he gets to make all these cool colors,
- 22:53Speaker 3: and I can only be black and white because like
- 22:55Speaker 3: I was with the white Sox or black and gray, right,
- 22:57Speaker 3: But now you're with the Diamondbacks and they have every
- 23:01Speaker 3: color under the sun uniform teal orange had purple blue.
- 23:04Speaker 3: So what color are you gonna pick to represent the Diamonds.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm old school in the sense
- 23:14Speaker 1: of like the bait because like when I first got
- 23:16Speaker 1: called up, obviously you guys know, like the shoe had
- 23:18Speaker 1: to be fifty percent black or like whatever the team
- 23:20Speaker 1: color had to be. The base had to be black.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It couldn't be like just some random color like it
- 23:24Speaker 1: is now. And I'm kind of still like that. I'm
- 23:26Speaker 1: not a big like white shoe. Like obviously the teal.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I added the teal to the black because it made
- 23:32Speaker 1: the Rockies color because purple and black kind of just
- 23:34Speaker 1: looked the same, so that's why I added it. But
- 23:36Speaker 1: with the Diamondbacks, I'm definitely gonna have teal in my cleats.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I still have a black bassed shoe. I'm you know,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I'm you know, I'm thirty four, Like I can't be
- 23:45Speaker 1: wearing like neon colors out there. Like some of these
- 23:48Speaker 1: young guys can who are nasty and they could fly.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just kind of old school like that.
- 23:53Speaker 1: So the base would be good. But I'll have the
- 23:55Speaker 1: teal and I'll make sure the flash is still out
- 23:57Speaker 1: there though on the shoe. There you go, Hey, and
- 24:01Speaker 1: I know.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Where he's back.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Tell them, Oh they know, well, I tell them all
- 24:09Speaker 1: the time. We need it back. All right, Well, we'll
- 24:12Speaker 1: be in camp.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I just was told February twenty sixth, not me, but
- 24:15Speaker 2: AJ will definitely be there, So stop by and AJ
- 24:18Speaker 2: will pass the line on the show.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Awesome, okp Polar Kevin Pillar will be there.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Okay, there you go. Well, yeah, we enjoyed it. Thanks
- 24:27Speaker 2: for the extended time and great to catch up with you.
- 24:29Speaker 2: We'll see in camp.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Thank you guys so much. You guys have a going
- 24:32Speaker 1: all right, you too, have a good one. That's Nolan
- 24:35Speaker 1: Iron not out diamond Back, third Basement. See you
