- 0:49Speaker 1: see Jason Demurs the network. Watching NHL tonight this morning,
- 0:52Speaker 1: JD and personning a dog at one point over highlight
- 0:55Speaker 1: and more importantly, when the glass shattered, you uttered its
- 0:58Speaker 1: raining men, good con good song.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a It was a It was a
- 1:03Speaker 4: dare for one of the directors in the back. I
- 1:06Speaker 4: couldn't work it into something that's right. I wanted to
- 1:09Speaker 4: do the happy Gilmore one though, instaid is what do
- 1:12Speaker 4: you think this is hockey? Or this is a hockey game.
- 1:15Speaker 4: It's not a rock concert. Go back to your shanties.
- 1:18Speaker 2: But it is always inevitable, JD.
- 1:19Speaker 1: When you're working in the late shift and native's working
- 1:20Speaker 1: the lay shift tonight, we're recording this Wednesday morning, that
- 1:23Speaker 1: last game goes to overtime, you just know you're you're
- 1:25Speaker 1: staring down the barrel of a gun. Listen, we all
- 1:27Speaker 1: love hockey, We love the NHL Playoffs. You guys dedicate
- 1:29Speaker 1: your live to the sport. But when you see a
- 1:31Speaker 1: game engine towards overtime like that, seriously, can we just
- 1:33Speaker 1: finish the sucker?
- 1:33Speaker 4: Let's go well, Plus there was the glass that was
- 1:36Speaker 4: a twenty minute delay on top of it, so I'll
- 1:38Speaker 4: finish even later.
- 1:39Speaker 5: But Colorado wins. Everything's right in the World.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Playoff first takes, we'll go around the horn here. The
- 1:45Speaker 1: first few days the postseason have given us a lot captains.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Brady could chuck Jordan's still drop on the gloves off
- 1:50Speaker 1: the opening face off, first game of the playoffs, Buffalo
- 1:53Speaker 1: erupting when the Sabers came back to in Game one
- 1:55Speaker 1: against Boston the first time in NHL postseason history, a
- 1:59Speaker 1: team has won in regulation after trailing by two or
- 2:02Speaker 1: more with eight minutes or less remaining. Of course, Austin
- 2:04Speaker 1: stomped back last night, winning four to two. Sefkowski first
- 2:07Speaker 1: playoff hat trick, O two winner first Canadians scored three
- 2:10Speaker 1: power play goals in one playoff game. Then Hagel gets
- 2:12Speaker 1: the first playoff Gordy hal hat trick in lightning history.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Minnesota opening what could be a huge series, but that's
- 2:18Speaker 1: a six one SmackDown the Stars. Responding Game two, Carolina
- 2:21Speaker 1: one goal disallowed by an offside review award a penalty
- 2:24Speaker 1: shot ol Mark stops. They still win Game two in
- 2:27Speaker 1: double overtime. Flyers when the first two games in Pittsburgh,
- 2:30Speaker 1: they go home with an eighteen to zero franchise record
- 2:32Speaker 1: at best of seven.
- 2:33Speaker 2: When they're up to to oh.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Dry Settle returns to the Oilers and Utah defenseman. Lastly,
- 2:37Speaker 1: Nate Shawn Jersey gets fined five grand for headbutting Rasmus
- 2:40Speaker 1: Anderson lost to choose from your highlights so far off
- 2:43Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup playoffs, I don't know.
- 2:45Speaker 3: It's been. It's had everything, literally everything we could think of.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It's had and I mean even that that penalty shot
- 2:53Speaker 3: that was that was awarded. I've never seen that before.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It's just been it's been incredible. I think the Tampa
- 2:59Speaker 3: Montreal series for me has been I mean, I don't know,
- 3:02Speaker 3: it's tough to pick one series, but that series is
- 3:04Speaker 3: been electric. I don't know this this playoffs, it's only
- 3:07Speaker 3: going to get better too because the first round and
- 3:09Speaker 3: stay like a playoffs is there's nothing better JD for you.
- 3:14Speaker 4: My favorite thing so far about the playoffs has been
- 3:16Speaker 4: the Philly drubbing Pittsburgh Penguins. I didn't expect it, but
- 3:22Speaker 4: we're seeing a lot of young versus old teams. You
- 3:24Speaker 4: look at Tampa versus Montreal to night's point, and then
- 3:28Speaker 4: Philly versus pitt This young Philly team, upstart team Porto
- 3:33Speaker 4: Martin's a stud Dan Vladar has been incredible and just
- 3:38Speaker 4: their structure is frustrated Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh looks out of sorts.
- 3:43Speaker 5: They look absolutely awful. So they're down.
- 3:47Speaker 4: I guess when you go down two at home in
- 3:52Speaker 4: any playoff series, the percentage of you winning is like
- 3:55Speaker 4: nineteen percent if you go down two at home in
- 3:58Speaker 4: the first two games. So they're in trouble big time
- 4:02Speaker 4: and looking like Philly. But I mean one thing is
- 4:05Speaker 4: either team that wins that series is gonna get drupped
- 4:09Speaker 4: by Caroline or Ottawa. Because way there's different level. There's
- 4:13Speaker 4: levels to this and and Philly and pitt It's been
- 4:16Speaker 4: a good kind of a good series. But I just
- 4:18Speaker 4: think Pittsburenn's so bad.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Nate's surprised how quiet Sidney cross We's been.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I mean we've seen Sandheims in a real number on him,
- 4:24Speaker 1: kind of getting his face h you know, cross checking him,
- 4:27Speaker 1: just barking a little bit. Pittsburgh's power play specifically has
- 4:30Speaker 1: been atrocious. I mean, the Flyers power play is bad,
- 4:32Speaker 1: but Pittsburgh power has been so bad.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Philly scores short handed.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I mean you got fourth liner scoring, Glenn Dennings scoring
- 4:37Speaker 1: at an empty netter Owen Tippett sitting up halfway halfway
- 4:41Speaker 1: scored one goal this year. Like, if you tell me
- 4:43Speaker 1: to Philly, fourth liners scored. I mean, that's not the
- 4:45Speaker 1: recipe for success that the Flyers were anticipating. With the
- 4:47Speaker 1: able to get the advantage over Pittsburgh in Game two.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I am surprised. I'm surprised. It hasn't been better.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I mean there's a lot of guys that could be better, though.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I mean, let's start with their power play. Like their
- 4:57Speaker 3: power play was it was a momentum sucker, to be honest,
- 5:01Speaker 3: Like it took the momentum away from uh Carlson Pittsburgh,
- 5:05Speaker 3: and Carlson has not looked great. Gino. Gino had a
- 5:08Speaker 3: really tough night too. Yeah, I mean it was just
- 5:11Speaker 3: one guy after another and Philly. Philly's done such a
- 5:15Speaker 3: good job of keeping them to the outside, clogging up
- 5:17Speaker 3: the middle of the ice. Like Pittsburgh hasn't been able
- 5:20Speaker 3: to get second and third opportunities, like everything is shot
- 5:22Speaker 3: from the outside. It like Sid has, He's had a
- 5:24Speaker 3: couple of chances, but like I haven't really seen Sid
- 5:27Speaker 3: in front of the net like mocking it up or
- 5:30Speaker 3: you know, getting in his spot like he usually does.
- 5:32Speaker 3: So like to JD's point, and I've been a part
- 5:36Speaker 3: of a team that's come back from O two losing
- 5:39Speaker 3: two games at home. But it is near impossible if
- 5:43Speaker 3: you're in this situation, like you saw the percentage of
- 5:45Speaker 3: Jad mentioned, So Pittsburgh has their workout out for him right.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Now, Jady, when you look at the Montreal Canadians. I mean,
- 5:52Speaker 1: Tal is just so enthusiastic. He's chirping.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Even when the Habs lose.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Nate has to point it on the detection like your
- 5:58Speaker 1: team lost, but congratulations.
- 6:00Speaker 2: It was a hard, fun game.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Thoughts on Montreal so far, it looks to be a
- 6:03Speaker 1: hotly contested there.
- 6:04Speaker 2: He's a good stamp and I.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Love a good Gordia Hall playoff Hatrick, good stuff from Hagel.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Well yeah, Hegel's Hagel and Josh Anderson have been have
- 6:12Speaker 4: been the first first stars of this series so far.
- 6:16Speaker 4: I know Slavkovski had that great performance, but Anderson is
- 6:19Speaker 4: in their kitchen and he's living rent free. I mean,
- 6:22Speaker 4: they cannot They're incensed by him at every turn. It
- 6:25Speaker 4: just looks like they all want to kill him. But
- 6:27Speaker 4: I don't know as dumb as that Scott sabern penalty
- 6:30Speaker 4: was with two minutes left, you saw them all on
- 6:33Speaker 4: the bench.
- 6:33Speaker 5: They collectively grab their heads.
- 6:36Speaker 4: The guys being like, oh no, cause I think I'm
- 6:38Speaker 4: sure Scott saburns like loved in the room, yeah, and
- 6:40Speaker 4: by the coaching staff, and you just like want him
- 6:42Speaker 4: to succeed, but he just, you know, the wires cross
- 6:45Speaker 4: and I think the wires cross on him. But once
- 6:47Speaker 4: they killed that, I mean, they didn't give up a
- 6:49Speaker 4: shot in overtime, and it looked like they kind of
- 6:52Speaker 4: all got into the room and were like, listen, guys,
- 6:54Speaker 4: we're gonna fucking lose this series to this team, like we.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Better clean it up.
- 6:58Speaker 4: But it just they looked Montreal looked like the more
- 7:01Speaker 4: composed team. They looked like the veteran team, and Tampa
- 7:04Speaker 4: looked like they just couldn't get they couldn't figure it out.
- 7:07Speaker 4: They looked frustrated, uh, just agitated by everything that Montreal
- 7:12Speaker 4: was doing. And they kind of figured it out at overtime.
- 7:14Speaker 4: So I'm anxious to see at the Bell Center Game
- 7:17Speaker 4: three how Tampa comes out. But that's been a I mean,
- 7:21Speaker 4: I get my question, I guess is to Nate because
- 7:24Speaker 4: yesterday I watched so many games and I don't think
- 7:27Speaker 4: I've ever seen more scrums in recent memory in the
- 7:30Speaker 4: playoffs after every whistle.
- 7:32Speaker 5: But how much super glue has been wasted?
- 7:34Speaker 4: Because if you're gonna I was like, if you're gonna
- 7:37Speaker 4: wrestle that much, If you're gonna wrestle that much and
- 7:40Speaker 4: do jiu.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Jitsu, which is gay it's gonna do gay jiu jitsu
- 7:45Speaker 6: martial arts. You know, as I was joking, you're gonna
- 7:48Speaker 6: if you're gonna wrestle like that to your point and
- 7:51Speaker 6: take these coincidental minors like just fucking drop the gloves
- 7:54Speaker 6: and sucker punch somebody.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I totally agree. I've never ever seen this many scrums.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Who was it last night in the Tampa? Was it
- 8:02Speaker 3: Bull Duke and was it lilliberg or I don't know
- 8:05Speaker 3: who it was, but they wrestled.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Yeah, they wrestled.
- 8:08Speaker 4: If the ref's letting you wrestle with gloves on for
- 8:11Speaker 4: two minutes straight, yeah, just fight.
- 8:14Speaker 3: It looked like they were trying to someone's hiding a
- 8:17Speaker 3: little nut and with the other one's trying to find it,
- 8:19Speaker 3: and you know, they're hugging each other as they're doing it.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I know, I don't know, I've never seen anything like
- 8:24Speaker 3: this GD. I mean, there's been scrums in every single series.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I don't think I've seen this many fights either. Like
- 8:31Speaker 3: there's a lot of fights in the playoffs that there
- 8:32Speaker 3: hasn't been in the past, so it's different.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Somebody brought it up.
- 8:37Speaker 4: They're like, is it it's all that goes back to
- 8:40Speaker 4: like either the Austin Matthews on a Goudas on Matthews
- 8:43Speaker 4: or the just the whole buffalo thing at the start
- 8:46Speaker 4: of the year when like they got called out on
- 8:49Speaker 4: for Tage Thompson getting hit and then now they just
- 8:52Speaker 4: fight at any you know, they just wrestle each other. Yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 4: it's like every single series's guys in the box yelling
- 8:58Speaker 4: at the other one you're a pussy. And they were
- 9:01Speaker 4: just wrestling for like two minutes. No punched each other
- 9:03Speaker 4: in the face, just face washing. I'm like, it's so
- 9:05Speaker 4: weird to me.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It is. I don't get it either, But I mean this,
- 9:10Speaker 3: like I said, I've never seen this many fights, Like
- 9:14Speaker 3: it's just it's it's like guys are trying to really
- 9:17Speaker 3: use the whole timidation thing. Like it's it's it hasn't
- 9:20Speaker 3: been that in the past as much, and this year
- 9:21Speaker 3: it's really evident.
- 9:23Speaker 1: One more thought before we get to the off the
- 9:25Speaker 1: ice stuff. But Nate was thinking of you watching that
- 9:27Speaker 1: Boston game one, saying, well, everyone's rooting for the Sabers
- 9:29Speaker 1: Cinderella team, Like Nate call Bruins to win, looking pretty good.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Then the Sabers have this epic comeback and oh my god. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 1: but credit to Marcus Strm in Boston for bouncing back
- 9:38Speaker 1: in game too. They showed the Resolve could have won
- 9:40Speaker 1: that game four nothing till Buffalo scored twice. What have
- 9:42Speaker 1: you seen that Bruins Saber series. I think a lot
- 9:44Speaker 1: of people are now treating the Bees a lot more seriously.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, the Bruins, I mean we talked about before the
- 9:50Speaker 3: playoffs and and how Marco Sturm has had this team,
- 9:53Speaker 3: i mean dialed into their system and they play it
- 9:56Speaker 3: to a t and if they end up getting you know,
- 10:00Speaker 3: if you've seen Buffalo had their chances or maybe they
- 10:02Speaker 3: have sustained offensive's own pressure and and Boston is one
- 10:05Speaker 3: of those teams they kind of bend and don't break,
- 10:07Speaker 3: and you know they had that situation in game one,
- 10:09Speaker 3: but I think they they turned the page quickly, and
- 10:13Speaker 3: you know you heard Marco Sturm talk about it, and
- 10:15Speaker 3: they bounce back and they had a hell of a game.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I mean, Victor arvertson this guy. He's been such a
- 10:20Speaker 3: huge pickup for the Bruins. I know Marco Sturm had
- 10:22Speaker 3: him and had him in LA when he was there.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Marco Storm was an assistant, so he's really familiar with
- 10:27Speaker 3: him and likes him a lot. And you can see.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I mean he's been uh, he's been a highlight for
- 10:32Speaker 3: the Bruins, especially these first couple of games. And that line,
- 10:35Speaker 3: especially Zaka and Middlestad so good.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Yeah, that's been the That was the best line all year. Yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 4: was that zachline. I mean, if Buffalo doesn't figure out
- 10:43Speaker 4: their power play, they're dead.
- 10:45Speaker 5: I mean you can't.
- 10:46Speaker 4: You can't, and Nate knows this, Like, you can't when
- 10:50Speaker 4: a team's fucking around with you and they're taking penalties
- 10:53Speaker 4: and they're they're beating on you, and then you can't answer.
- 10:57Speaker 5: You know.
- 10:57Speaker 4: We talk about team toughness being the power play, Like
- 11:00Speaker 4: if you can make them pay in the power play,
- 11:01Speaker 4: that'll kind of calm it down. Yeah, but if you
- 11:04Speaker 4: continually lay an egg on each power play, they'll just
- 11:07Speaker 4: keep fucking with you. Because if I'm in that room,
- 11:10Speaker 4: I'm like, guys, they cannot figure out their power play,
- 11:13Speaker 4: keep running them at every change, Frustrate the shit out
- 11:15Speaker 4: of them, and I think they're like something like Ozero
- 11:18Speaker 4: for thirty eight or something. In their last thirty eight attempts.
- 11:21Speaker 4: It's it's like dating back to the end of the year.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Like they they put they're trying to put Stage Thompson
- 11:27Speaker 4: every position.
- 11:29Speaker 5: It's not working.
- 11:31Speaker 4: I don't know if Rasmus Dalin is the best guy
- 11:33Speaker 4: to run the top of a power play unit as
- 11:36Speaker 4: a quarterback. I think he's a great offensive defenseman. But
- 11:39Speaker 4: I might throw Bo Bayram there as the guy and
- 11:41Speaker 4: just let him kind of run with it. He seems
- 11:43Speaker 4: to more he seems to be more fluid on the
- 11:45Speaker 4: blue line. But yeah, they don't figure it out. They're
- 11:47Speaker 4: in trouble. And credit to Boston going and getting the
- 11:50Speaker 4: split in Buffalo Chipplewa Street. How about those guys in
- 11:54Speaker 4: the rollerblades. Yeah, that's the highlight of the playoffs. Buffalo
- 11:59Speaker 4: fighting the dummy, Buffalo dummies, the benders and they're just
- 12:03Speaker 4: like cracked out on meth and and they were like
- 12:07Speaker 4: rollerblading down the highway after Do you see that video?
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's just alarming, to be honest with you, they don't
- 12:12Speaker 1: even go to the game.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Yeah, they go, they go there, they fight the dummy,
- 12:16Speaker 4: and then they rollerblade down the highway to their shanties.
- 12:20Speaker 1: We gotta get Yeah, we'll get them next week. We'll
- 12:22Speaker 1: go from Bruce casting to the guys who are rollerblading
- 12:25Speaker 1: in Buffalo beating up dummies. We go to off the
- 12:27Speaker 1: ice and a sunny day. Didn't take long for the
- 12:29Speaker 1: Devils to fill their GM vacancy, the team announcing last
- 12:32Speaker 1: week former Florida Panthers assistant gym and head of analytics
- 12:35Speaker 1: Sonny Mata is the new general manager.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Sunny started his management career with the Devils.
- 12:39Speaker 1: He was one of the league's first data analytics directors.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Started out studying music at the University of Miami, eventually
- 12:45Speaker 1: pursued a music crew before becoming a professional poker player.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Daniel Legrandu What's Up? He even wrote two books about poker.
- 12:53Speaker 1: What do you make of Sonny Mata here at JD
- 12:55Speaker 1: running the Devils?
- 12:57Speaker 4: Well, all the things you explained is you know analytics
- 13:00Speaker 4: and and understanding strategy. So I expect a very you know,
- 13:07Speaker 4: analytical approach to this is easy as a low brow
- 13:13Speaker 4: analysis I could give you. I just think that's what
- 13:17Speaker 4: it looks like. When you read that, it's like, Oh,
- 13:18Speaker 4: this guy's gonna he's really gonna crunch the numbers LA
- 13:22Speaker 4: office and he's just gonna he's gonna see what he
- 13:25Speaker 4: can put together and he's gonna make things work. Numbers wise,
- 13:29Speaker 4: you might see some him bring some guys in on
- 13:32Speaker 4: discounts that he thinks have good underlying numbers. There's gonna
- 13:36Speaker 4: be a good marriage of both. Now, I think he's
- 13:39Speaker 4: got to insulate himself with somebody very good in terms
- 13:44Speaker 4: of understanding what hockey is in the eye test, and
- 13:47Speaker 4: then I think he'll fill in the gaps there.
- 13:49Speaker 5: So you you know, you might see a good marriage here.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Of an analytics guy with with somebody that you know
- 13:55Speaker 4: next player and then I don't know who's around that
- 13:58Speaker 4: might go go and take that job. But there's a
- 14:00Speaker 4: lot of X Devils guys that I'm sure would love
- 14:02Speaker 4: to be an advisor and help them up.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah. The more I the more I hear about him
- 14:08Speaker 3: and read about him and listen to his press conferences,
- 14:11Speaker 3: I like him. I mean I read something yesterday that, uh,
- 14:14Speaker 3: he got into analytics because of poker and he was
- 14:17Speaker 3: never really an analytics guy at heart, and he grew
- 14:20Speaker 3: up playing hockey here in Jersey obviously he's from here,
- 14:22Speaker 3: and he said that, you know, that's what really got
- 14:25Speaker 3: him into the analytics side was playing poker, and it
- 14:27Speaker 3: kind of you know, translated to the hockey side, and
- 14:30Speaker 3: then obviously him being in Florida. I think learning under
- 14:33Speaker 3: Bill Zito and getting a couple of cups and having
- 14:35Speaker 3: that experience. I like him. I think it could be
- 14:38Speaker 3: a really good hire. The more I hear from him,
- 14:41Speaker 3: I kind of like him.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah, a very cool picture he was posting. This is
- 14:44Speaker 1: a kid where in the devil's jersey was like whatever,
- 14:46Speaker 1: twelve years older side. But it's really cool and guys
- 14:48Speaker 1: you can know they have a perse certain passion for
- 14:51Speaker 1: the game and the passion they were kids to get
- 14:52Speaker 1: their dream job, so to speak. Wishing Sonny Mitchell, well,
- 14:55Speaker 1: hopefully it works out. If one new GM is coming in,
- 14:57Speaker 1: it must be one is going out. Vancouver announcing that
- 14:59Speaker 1: Patrick Alvin no longer the GM. Alvin was on the
- 15:02Speaker 1: job a little for four years, how pleave Vancouver to
- 15:05Speaker 1: first place finish in the Pacific in twenty twenty three
- 15:07Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, but the team declined since then.
- 15:10Speaker 2: He traded away J. T.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Miller, Quinn Hughes, Keith Sherwood, and Connor Garland. They finished
- 15:15Speaker 1: the season with fifty eight points fourteen minds, the second
- 15:17Speaker 1: lowest total in the league. Alvin the only three time
- 15:20Speaker 1: guest in Amazon Prime.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Great guy.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Love the fact they posted the picture of him with
- 15:25Speaker 1: his bags packed in a big smile in his face.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I assume that was a real time picture as he
- 15:29Speaker 1: was thrilled to be leaving Vancouver. Sabers have reportedly granted
- 15:31Speaker 1: the permission interviewed their former GM Kevin Adams. According to
- 15:34Speaker 1: Matthew Fevron and Thomas Trantro the Athletic multiple sources, they've
- 15:38Speaker 1: Alsays Tron for permission to speak to their special advisor,
- 15:41Speaker 1: Shane don jd. How about it, Shane's world taking over.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Vancouver, Donor.
- 15:45Speaker 4: It's only a matter of time before Donor makes his
- 15:48Speaker 4: way in the GM role. He is just so good
- 15:51Speaker 4: with people, and that's a big requirement of that job.
- 15:55Speaker 4: He's so well loved in the community, in the hockey world,
- 15:58Speaker 4: and he's got a great sense of a game. So
- 16:02Speaker 4: he'd be my pick for a lot of I'm surprised
- 16:04Speaker 4: he hasn't been kind of given the nod. I think
- 16:07Speaker 4: he's probably waiting for the right opportunity, maybe waiting to
- 16:10Speaker 4: see if the Coyotes come back and take that wink wink,
- 16:12Speaker 4: but nice, I think in the meantime, I could see
- 16:16Speaker 4: him being a really good addition to any team.
- 16:18Speaker 5: I'd love to see him.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I mean, listen, Kevin Adams deserves another shot as well.
- 16:24Speaker 4: But I think Shane Doan is just so lovable and likable,
- 16:27Speaker 4: and maybe he's so lovable that you got to kind
- 16:29Speaker 4: of keep him in a special advisor role or an
- 16:32Speaker 4: assistant GM and not the actual GM. But I think, yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 4: I think anything's better than and I don't mean to
- 16:40Speaker 4: shoot on Alvin, but anything's better than what's transpired the
- 16:43Speaker 4: last two years in Vancouver. That's what I'll say. Anything's better.
- 16:47Speaker 4: So I'm not saying a knock on Alvin. He lost
- 16:49Speaker 4: the handle on it. But anything's better than what's been
- 16:51Speaker 4: going on in the past two years. A nutless monkey
- 16:56Speaker 4: is better than what's been on the last two years.
- 16:59Speaker 3: I'm worried if I don't know, I mean, this Vancouver
- 17:02Speaker 3: job is I guess it. It looks good, but I mean,
- 17:07Speaker 3: you're under Rutherford and he basically made he called the
- 17:09Speaker 3: shots and he said that with Alvin being there, So
- 17:12Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, for the Mayle Lafe, do
- 17:15Speaker 3: you look at maybe bringing in Shane Don't there instead?
- 17:19Speaker 3: Since you have min House. I don't know. I mean,
- 17:20Speaker 3: you have him and Matt Sundean. There's an option. I
- 17:23Speaker 3: just I'm sure there's gonna be other jobs opening up,
- 17:26Speaker 3: but the one in Vancouver. I just think that I
- 17:28Speaker 3: don't know with with what all the quotes Rutherford said
- 17:30Speaker 3: and how he talked about you know, it was it's
- 17:33Speaker 3: on me, you know, those are at the end of
- 17:34Speaker 3: the day. Was are my decisions? I don't know.
- 17:37Speaker 1: It was.
- 17:37Speaker 3: It was a little confusing, But I don't know. We'll
- 17:39Speaker 3: see what happens though. I mean, there's a lot there's
- 17:41Speaker 3: a lot of jobs that are open up right now.
- 17:43Speaker 4: How'd that firing go? Did you just sit in the
- 17:45Speaker 4: room and go, hey, Alvin, Yeah, it's all my fault.
- 17:48Speaker 5: But you fy it.
- 17:50Speaker 4: But but you don't, but you're fired. Hey, it's all
- 17:55Speaker 4: my fault, but you're fired, right, Like.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Goodball hunting, it's not your fault. Robin Williams and Matt
- 18:00Speaker 1: Damon in this instance, good deep cut. I don't feel
- 18:03Speaker 1: great about mattsond and potentially running the Maple Leafs. The
- 18:06Speaker 1: Leafs are another team looking for new new management. Elliot
- 18:08Speaker 1: from reporting that apparently Matt's, of course a Leaf's legend
- 18:11Speaker 1: for a role longtime Leaves captain Francis's all time points
- 18:14Speaker 1: did most recently worked as an analyst for Swedish TV
- 18:16Speaker 1: at the Olympics. Nate, I'll tell you why I'm not
- 18:18Speaker 1: big on it now. I like Matt's great guy. Obviously
- 18:20Speaker 1: was a great leader, great leaf. Don't think he's really
- 18:23Speaker 1: in touch with the league. Last time I checked, he's
- 18:24Speaker 1: just been hanging out in Sweden, like he did a
- 18:26Speaker 1: little bit of TV.
- 18:26Speaker 2: He's been living the life as a dad.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I heard him on a pocket recently saying doesn't watch
- 18:30Speaker 1: a lot of the hockey's is he raising a family,
- 18:31Speaker 1: which I respect and support. But I wouldn't want that
- 18:34Speaker 1: guy running the maple leafs. It feels like a little
- 18:36Speaker 1: bit to me, it's an honorarium position, like we'll get
- 18:39Speaker 1: a sunny may Ta here's an analytics guy, but then
- 18:41Speaker 1: Matt's wayavy in here to clean it.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Up a little bit.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I would be not surprised because I could get it.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Obviously it would be a pr stroke, so to speak.
- 18:47Speaker 1: But Matt Sunday running leaves not crazy about it.
- 18:50Speaker 3: You Maybe I don't know running the leafs, but optics wise,
- 18:55Speaker 3: I think it's always good if you brought him back.
- 18:57Speaker 3: I think it's only good for the Leafs. I think
- 18:58Speaker 3: the Leafs could use any kind of positive reinforcement for
- 19:02Speaker 3: their organization. I think Matt Suendean would be it, right,
- 19:04Speaker 3: did he? Maybe bringing in a guy that has zero.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Information on this team in this franchise is the best
- 19:13Speaker 4: possible thing to make the great decision, because he's going
- 19:15Speaker 4: to walk and he's going to be like, hey, Pelly,
- 19:19Speaker 4: get the fuck out of here, like beat it, like
- 19:22Speaker 4: beat it. I got this, And you know he's listen.
- 19:25Speaker 4: He doesn't watch a lot of hockey, but he has
- 19:27Speaker 4: hockey knowledge. Now, is this kind of a classic Leafs
- 19:32Speaker 4: move to just bring somebody that no one thought of
- 19:34Speaker 4: that's super underqualified. Yes, And I'm kind of here for it,
- 19:38Speaker 4: and I love it because I'm fully convinced that they
- 19:42Speaker 4: make all their money on the media because the team's
- 19:44Speaker 4: so bad, and they just love when the team sucks,
- 19:47Speaker 4: so they're just trying to be just embrace that.
- 19:49Speaker 5: But yeah, I don't.
- 19:51Speaker 4: I don't know, Matt Sundeen, you haven't to your point.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I saw him in the Olympics walking into Swedish TV,
- 19:58Speaker 4: so you know he's he's alive.
- 20:01Speaker 5: He's more hockey.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I don't think he's locked up for or body.
- 20:05Speaker 5: We'll take it.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Tell you a couple of thoughts your potential people that
- 20:09Speaker 1: could be involved.
- 20:11Speaker 5: I mean, you were talking about guys who haven't been
- 20:12Speaker 5: around the league much.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Apparently the Leafs are considering John Shaika as their next GM.
- 20:16Speaker 3: That guy has not been in the league and I
- 20:17Speaker 3: think almost five years.
- 20:19Speaker 5: JD.
- 20:20Speaker 1: You might know something about about John's.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yeah, he's the Wendy's the Wendy's King franchise king. Him
- 20:27Speaker 4: and his wife owned like fifty franchises. Okay, he don't
- 20:31Speaker 4: need the money, I can tell you that much. So
- 20:33Speaker 4: he's coming for the love of the game. Hey, he's
- 20:35Speaker 4: another He's like a he's kind of like a Sonny Metal,
- 20:37Speaker 4: a little bit of of sorry Meta. He's a for
- 20:41Speaker 4: ad nance. You don't get mad at me your people's
- 20:46Speaker 4: uh so you get my wife's name rat Uh?
- 20:51Speaker 5: Yeah? I think Listen, do I think Chika is the
- 20:55Speaker 5: right role.
- 20:55Speaker 4: He's been sniffing to get back for a while now,
- 20:59Speaker 4: and I think he does have good knowledge. I mean, listen,
- 21:01Speaker 4: before he was fired or you know, before he left,
- 21:06Speaker 4: which like he left at lunchtime and no one even knew.
- 21:09Speaker 4: When I was there in Arizona, we were like first
- 21:12Speaker 4: in the Pacific. We're in the Pacific. At that point,
- 21:15Speaker 4: we were first in the Pacific, and he wanted to
- 21:19Speaker 4: go get Tyler to Foley at the deadline. This is
- 21:21Speaker 4: the COVID year and that was like the exactly what
- 21:23Speaker 4: we needed. We needed a goal scorer in the wing.
- 21:26Speaker 4: And the new owner came in Morello and he said, well,
- 21:30Speaker 4: I want to make a splash. Let's go get Taylor
- 21:32Speaker 4: Hall and Chikes and them was like, that's not the
- 21:36Speaker 4: right guy to bring in, Like he's Taylor Hall's great,
- 21:38Speaker 4: but it doesn't fit in our lineup. And he said, no,
- 21:40Speaker 4: I want to make a splash and ended up bringing
- 21:43Speaker 4: in Taylor Hall, and we went from first to out
- 21:45Speaker 4: of the playoffs, and then Chika left in the middle
- 21:47Speaker 4: of the night, and then you know, COVID hit and
- 21:50Speaker 4: we came back in the bubble and Taylor Hall was there.
- 21:53Speaker 4: And not to say that Taylor Hall's not a great player,
- 21:56Speaker 4: just we needed to folly at that point, but he
- 21:58Speaker 4: had built a good team with what he had and
- 22:02Speaker 4: how little they were willing to spend, So he's going
- 22:05Speaker 4: to be on a franchise that's willing to spend.
- 22:07Speaker 5: I think he can do some damage.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Until you another one as well, potentially in Vancouver. Well,
- 22:13Speaker 2: I was just good.
- 22:14Speaker 5: I mean, I don't think this is going to happen.
- 22:16Speaker 5: I wanted to stir things up and get your take about.
- 22:18Speaker 3: You know, Emily Kestingay, the assistant GM.
- 22:21Speaker 5: I don't know if I'm pronouncing her name right, but
- 22:24Speaker 5: the assistant GEM in Vancouver.
- 22:26Speaker 6: Is there any chance, any chance she got gets the
- 22:29Speaker 6: big job and we have our first female GM in
- 22:32Speaker 6: the history of the National Hockey League.
- 22:34Speaker 3: But I think it's possible.
- 22:35Speaker 5: I think it's definitely possible.
- 22:36Speaker 3: I think, I mean, you could go to let me
- 22:38Speaker 3: look at Toronto and Haley wickanizer of her dad have
- 22:41Speaker 3: heard you know Cami Grnado too, that's another name that
- 22:45Speaker 3: she's in. She's in management as well. I mean I
- 22:47Speaker 3: think that it's I think it's a matter of time
- 22:49Speaker 3: before we probably get our first woman GM. I think
- 22:53Speaker 3: it's you know, you look at some of the women
- 22:56Speaker 3: throughout women's hockey, like Cameron now Hay organizers. These these
- 22:59Speaker 3: females like they they know a lot. They've been around
- 23:02Speaker 3: Hall of famers, no more than us. The Hall of Famer. Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 3: so I wouldn't be surprised if that is a possibility.
- 23:10Speaker 1: But Jadi, imagine the men of sexist who would just
- 23:12Speaker 1: be outraged and Vancouver I this happened, there'd be a
- 23:14Speaker 1: mutiny if what the amount of sexist who.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Would be so upset?
- 23:19Speaker 2: You kid, of a woman running an NHL team? Are
- 23:21Speaker 2: you kidding me?
- 23:22Speaker 3: You would?
- 23:22Speaker 2: You would face that backlash. You and I both know this.
- 23:24Speaker 4: I can either confirm nor deny that would happen. The
- 23:28Speaker 4: majority of people this is awesome, and I refuse to
- 23:30Speaker 4: put my name on that on that that.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I'm not saying you're one of them.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I'm just saying that you are going to be people
- 23:38Speaker 1: who'd say you can't have a woman running a team.
- 23:40Speaker 3: T w h L.
- 23:43Speaker 5: No chance. I'm in two lawsuits. I don't want to
- 23:45Speaker 5: be in the third one.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Not about sexist all right, fair point, as long as
- 23:53Speaker 1: you're not also facing lawsuits for being a sexist.
- 23:55Speaker 5: No I'm not. I can only do racism, okay, So
- 23:59Speaker 5: I love to racism.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Huge racist, not a sexist. Still to come here.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Only one of as off the rails.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I love it.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Only one of the isart.
- 24:07Speaker 3: We need another episode this week.
- 24:09Speaker 2: If we can get two episodes a week, that'd be great.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I mean, all kidding aside me.
- 24:12Speaker 1: If you had two episodes a week, you have to
- 24:14Speaker 1: listen to this episode the next six hours. If you
- 24:16Speaker 1: listen to this by eight o'clock tonight, the Flyers already
- 24:19Speaker 1: be up one to nothing. This is already a dated podcast.
- 24:21Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we're already having so we might as well
- 24:23Speaker 4: just say shit, ougity boogey, ugy boogey. I mean, thirty
- 24:27Speaker 4: two Thoughts has three episodes a week free just phrages
- 24:32Speaker 4: of machine. We might as well just play.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Let's play thirty two Thoughts on audio and just let it.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Here's the update from.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Whatever it takes to get another episode out.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I love it still to come here in NHL Unscripted,
- 24:45Speaker 1: Bruce Cassi, that's right, butch Cassi in the Sun Dance case.
- 24:48Speaker 1: We'll ask him what happened in Vegas and what's next
- 24:51Speaker 1: for him? All that more coming up next after this
- 24:53Speaker 1: on NHL Unscripted.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Our next guest was.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Drafted eighteenth over wrong with the Chicago Blackhawks the nineteen.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Eighty three NHL Entry Draft.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Played thirty six games with Chicago before venturing into coaching
- 25:18Speaker 1: went on to coach parts of two seasons in Washington
- 25:20Speaker 1: before becoming head coach the Boston Bruins, taking them to
- 25:23Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup Final in twenty nineteen and winning the
- 25:26Speaker 1: Jack Adams Award in twenty twenty.
- 25:28Speaker 2: He most recently served as head coach the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 25:31Speaker 2: With him, he won the.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Stanley Cup in twenty twenty three to give that franchise
- 25:35Speaker 1: its first championship. Welcome Bruce Casty. Bruce, great to see you.
- 25:39Speaker 7: Yeah, thanks for having me on.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Guys, It's always such a great time watching the first
- 25:43Speaker 1: round the NHL playoffs.
- 25:44Speaker 2: We know you're in Cape Cod right now. What have
- 25:47Speaker 2: your days been like ever since the recent change in Vegas?
- 25:50Speaker 7: Well, long, i'd rather be coaching in the playoffs. That's
- 25:53Speaker 7: what you grind all year for, to be honest, but
- 25:56Speaker 7: it didn't work out that way. So playing a little golf,
- 25:59Speaker 7: although it was this morning was forty four degrees out,
- 26:02Speaker 7: so not great. But to windy watching hockey actually, you
- 26:09Speaker 7: know kind of we have a summer house here, so,
- 26:12Speaker 7: you know, doing a few things around here. But I'm
- 26:14Speaker 7: not exactly a handyman, so it's it's not much.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Trust me, I'm not either.
- 26:19Speaker 4: But you know, Bruce, I just want to ask you,
- 26:21Speaker 4: like we've seen in recent years with coaching, it's it's
- 26:25Speaker 4: become harder and harder to I don't want to say
- 26:29Speaker 4: stay in the good graces of like management and leadership,
- 26:31Speaker 4: but like it's really judged of like what have you
- 26:34Speaker 4: done for me lately? And were you surprised at all
- 26:36Speaker 4: kind of how things went down? And for you, like
- 26:40Speaker 4: what do you make of the whole coaching carousel that's
- 26:42Speaker 4: going on in the NHL right now? It's just how
- 26:44Speaker 4: hard it is to really to cement yourself, no matter
- 26:47Speaker 4: how well you do.
- 26:49Speaker 7: Yeah, well, that that part of it, Like you know,
- 26:51Speaker 7: usually I mean I got jobs because someone got fired, right,
- 26:55Speaker 7: So we kind of accept that to a certain extent,
- 26:58Speaker 7: that's the way it goes. It seems like this year
- 27:03Speaker 7: there was some late firing. Typically don't happen as often.
- 27:07Speaker 7: You know, I was one, Patrick raw was one. So
- 27:10Speaker 7: you know, maybe that will become a trend. I don't know.
- 27:14Speaker 7: You know, that part of it is unfortunate because you know,
- 27:17Speaker 7: everyone wants to coach in the playoffs. I mean, you're
- 27:19Speaker 7: playing to get your name in the Stanley Cup, right
- 27:20Speaker 7: and and well we're no different as coaches. That's what
- 27:22Speaker 7: we want. So uh, you know those are tough, but
- 27:25Speaker 7: that's a little bit of the business and hopefully there's
- 27:28Speaker 7: a little more continuity going forward. But you know, you
- 27:32Speaker 7: see it every year, what was what five or six
- 27:34Speaker 7: guys that you know get shuffled around, and you know,
- 27:37Speaker 7: hopefully there's a you know, an opportunity for me to
- 27:39Speaker 7: jump back on the fierce wheel, so to speak down
- 27:41Speaker 7: the road and see how that works out.
- 27:45Speaker 3: I'm sure there will be. Uh. We were all surprised
- 27:48Speaker 3: with how late Vegas made this coaching change. Were you
- 27:52Speaker 3: surprised to brus.
- 27:54Speaker 7: Yes, and and we didn't have a good march, so
- 27:58Speaker 7: you know, you always wonder some of our bigger guys
- 28:02Speaker 7: went silent, so that that's always where you some For
- 28:04Speaker 7: me as a coach, you know, we grind it all
- 28:07Speaker 7: year to stay in a playoff position. We had some injuries,
- 28:10Speaker 7: some other things happened, but I guess the easiest ways
- 28:14Speaker 7: to put it, I I'd rather still be there coaching.
- 28:16Speaker 7: I mean, you know, you spend that much time with
- 28:18Speaker 7: your team but didn't work out. So you know, there's
- 28:23Speaker 7: different emotions and you've got to detach yourself. I guess
- 28:26Speaker 7: at the end of the day and start thinking about
- 28:27Speaker 7: the next one.
- 28:28Speaker 1: At some point, As you said, Bruce, coaches are hired
- 28:31Speaker 1: to be fired, but when you're not expecting it, especially
- 28:33Speaker 1: after you've had some success with that franchise, the news
- 28:35Speaker 1: comes down, what happens immediately next? Do you call players?
- 28:39Speaker 1: Do you text players? Do you just clean your stuff out?
- 28:41Speaker 1: I'm just curious the process in the immediate aftermath.
- 28:44Speaker 7: Yeah, that's always you know, you know, in the middle
- 28:47Speaker 7: of the season. You know, it was a Sunday, so
- 28:50Speaker 7: we had a day off. It's like, you know, can
- 28:52Speaker 7: I come back and clean out my office in a
- 28:54Speaker 7: bit or you know what I mean, like someone's gonna
- 28:56Speaker 7: take it. So you're handing in your key fobs for
- 29:00Speaker 7: this and that and and and you know, it's a
- 29:02Speaker 7: little odd when, you know, when I got home later
- 29:04Speaker 7: that night, after I went into the office, because it's like, jeez,
- 29:07Speaker 7: I walked through that door. Probably h the practice rinks
- 29:10Speaker 7: in Summerland where a lot of the guys live. We're
- 29:11Speaker 7: not a team mobile a lot, so you're there even
- 29:13Speaker 7: on off days. It's eight minutes from your house, and
- 29:15Speaker 7: it's like, I ain't going back in there, so that
- 29:18Speaker 7: that was an odd one with some great memories there.
- 29:21Speaker 7: But yeah, after that, it's you know, you you sort
- 29:25Speaker 7: of o, hey, what am I going to do next?
- 29:27Speaker 7: And you're keeping a tabs on the team and talking
- 29:30Speaker 7: to some people. I texted every player that we coach there,
- 29:32Speaker 7: just especially the guys we won with. I mean, that's
- 29:35Speaker 7: something we'll have forever. He can't you know, he can't
- 29:38Speaker 7: take that away from anybody, player or coach. So you know,
- 29:42Speaker 7: that was the great part about Vegas and some you
- 29:44Speaker 7: hear back from some of you don't know, other guys
- 29:46Speaker 7: probably down the road a little bit more so that
- 29:48Speaker 7: that's a little bit what would happen?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Did you have any contact with Towards?
- 29:53Speaker 7: He texted me actually that that that night. I like Towards.
- 29:56Speaker 7: He's a classy guy. I've never worked directly with him,
- 30:00Speaker 7: we've coached against each other a number of times, including
- 30:03Speaker 7: in the playoffs. So he's doing a good job there
- 30:05Speaker 7: and I think he'll be he'll be a good voice
- 30:07Speaker 7: for them. Uh.
- 30:08Speaker 4: I'm always fascinated, Like now for you, you know, as
- 30:11Speaker 4: a player, you're like, okay, I just got to wait
- 30:13Speaker 4: till the next training camp and get back in and
- 30:16Speaker 4: I either got to get a PTO and stuff like that.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Do you but with your you know, resume, and you
- 30:21Speaker 4: know there's gonna be a lot of teams calling whenever
- 30:23Speaker 4: there are coaches on the hot seat. Do you have
- 30:25Speaker 4: some teams penciled down or like, what does it look
- 30:28Speaker 4: like for you? Are you wanting to jump right back in?
- 30:30Speaker 4: Do you want to be a little bit more methodical
- 30:32Speaker 4: and pick something that fits for you and your family?
- 30:36Speaker 7: Yeah? I mean, you know, I got kids in high school,
- 30:38Speaker 7: so you know that there's certainly those considerations and adversity.
- 30:45Speaker 7: You know, JAS is not necessarily the end of the world, right,
- 30:47Speaker 7: I mean, you know, I have another year left to
- 30:49Speaker 7: my deal and we get paid well as coaches, so
- 30:54Speaker 7: but there is the family dynamic that sometimes you know
- 30:57Speaker 7: you're going to move your kids or not you're going
- 30:59Speaker 7: to you know, those are things that I suspect players
- 31:02Speaker 7: go through, just the kids are younger when it happens,
- 31:05Speaker 7: if they get traded at the deadline, they have to
- 31:07Speaker 7: go through some of that stuff too, So that's not
- 31:10Speaker 7: unique to us. But for me, it's like, there's no
- 31:14Speaker 7: openings right now, so there's not really much to even
- 31:16Speaker 7: look at and go, Okay, how about maybe this team's
- 31:19Speaker 7: a fit. So but you know how it works. You know,
- 31:21Speaker 7: a couple of weeks from now, after the first round,
- 31:23Speaker 7: there's going to be some teams that lose the first
- 31:25Speaker 7: round or disappointed. Sometimes the coach pays a price for that,
- 31:28Speaker 7: so that could be opening or gems make a decision
- 31:31Speaker 7: after evaluation. So I think that's still a ways away.
- 31:34Speaker 7: But yes, I'm a coach. I'm not getting any younger.
- 31:37Speaker 7: I'll be sixty one next month. I want to you know,
- 31:40Speaker 7: I want another opportunity to get the Cup. So I
- 31:43Speaker 7: would hate to see, you know, another year go by
- 31:46Speaker 7: where you don't get at it, because I'm not going
- 31:47Speaker 7: to have a chance this year. So that's how I'm
- 31:49Speaker 7: looking at it. And hopefully it's a good fit. Whatever
- 31:51Speaker 7: that team looks like, well.
- 31:53Speaker 5: Bruce, you look fucking fantastic. Looks like he's a hundred.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Stay on the cape. God good for it.
- 32:05Speaker 7: Must be the cave, Son, I don't know, it's.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Got to be the cave. We're gonna shift gears a
- 32:10Speaker 3: little bit. And you know you have as a player,
- 32:13Speaker 3: and I know as a player, you have different coaches
- 32:15Speaker 3: that are extremely influential on you. And you want to
- 32:19Speaker 3: you want a title with Darryl setter in in in Indianapolis.
- 32:23Speaker 3: How influential was he to your coaching style?
- 32:26Speaker 7: A lot, you know, and Darryl is uh, you know,
- 32:29Speaker 7: the people have different opinions of Darryl out there. We
- 32:33Speaker 7: you know, I was halfway through the second year with him.
- 32:36Speaker 7: The first year, you know, everything went well and were
- 32:38Speaker 7: losing the playoffs, right and having a good year. Played
- 32:40Speaker 7: a lot in the next year. He was tough on
- 32:42Speaker 7: a lot of the guys, and there was some days
- 32:45Speaker 7: I was like, is this really worth it? You know,
- 32:47Speaker 7: but he taught me how to win? We want a
- 32:50Speaker 7: championship that year you had to change your game a
- 32:53Speaker 7: little bit. We became a much more harder to play
- 32:56Speaker 7: against teams. So I learned a lot. You know. I
- 32:58Speaker 7: was always an offensively kind of dimensional defenseman, and and
- 33:03Speaker 7: you know, he taught me how to defend better and
- 33:06Speaker 7: the team how to defend better and how to be
- 33:08Speaker 7: you know, get get that identity. And I thought it
- 33:11Speaker 7: worked really well for us. So I've always taken that
- 33:13Speaker 7: part of it from him, and that there is a
- 33:16Speaker 7: learning curve and any push guys, he knew that he
- 33:19Speaker 7: could push you and then push a little more. But
- 33:21Speaker 7: I think he knew there was a line there as
- 33:23Speaker 7: well that you got to be careful with with players,
- 33:26Speaker 7: And so I enjoyed playing for Darryl at the end,
- 33:30Speaker 7: probably more after right, when you get a little bit older.
- 33:32Speaker 5: You've been through it a little realize.
- 33:34Speaker 7: You know, you go, Okay, this is why he did it.
- 33:37Speaker 7: I get it now. And now you're into coaching and
- 33:40Speaker 7: you see it right, Like, and I've had players i've
- 33:42Speaker 7: coached there now, coaches that will call me and tell
- 33:45Speaker 7: me the same thing, like, oh, I get now, why
- 33:47Speaker 7: you know you had to do it this way or
- 33:49Speaker 7: that way? Didn't have to, but chose to, right. So
- 33:52Speaker 7: that's what I learned from Darryl. And you know, I
- 33:55Speaker 7: think there was a lot of guys in that team.
- 33:56Speaker 7: The other thing, there's about ten or eleven guys went
- 33:59Speaker 7: from that IHL team in nineteen ninety on to be
- 34:01Speaker 7: good role players in the NHL. So we also taught
- 34:03Speaker 7: guys to okay, you're good down here in the IHL.
- 34:07Speaker 7: What can you do to help a team win? Bobby
- 34:09Speaker 7: Bass and Mike Eagles, Ryan McGill, Cam Russell, Brian Dude
- 34:12Speaker 7: and Mike Stapleton there was a bunch of guys that
- 34:14Speaker 7: were good role players. And then probably forget Warren Reichel,
- 34:17Speaker 7: three or four more other guys that you know that
- 34:21Speaker 7: went on and and did good jobs for teams because
- 34:25Speaker 7: Daryl probably taught them a little bit of selflessness and
- 34:28Speaker 7: and being, you know, doing you need to do to
- 34:31Speaker 7: help the team win. And so I give you a
- 34:32Speaker 7: lot of credit for them.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Those Cetter brothers. You turn around, there's another Cutter brother
- 34:36Speaker 2: looking at you.
- 34:37Speaker 1: After playing with Chicago Brewce, you played three seasons in Italy.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I mean, what are some of your favorite memories of
- 34:43Speaker 1: that experience beyond the food.
- 34:45Speaker 7: Well, the hockey wasn't I'll say it wasn't much. And
- 34:47Speaker 7: that's no disrespect to the Italians. Just aren't. They're not
- 34:50Speaker 7: good hockey players. And I'll tell you why they don't
- 34:53Speaker 7: value that. You know, they want to be soccer players
- 34:56Speaker 7: or tennis. Yeah, those are the people that the sports
- 35:00Speaker 7: that get paid over there. So half the guys that
- 35:03Speaker 7: played with how To had a day job. Like my
- 35:06Speaker 7: partner on d was a local cop, you know, and
- 35:08Speaker 7: Reed Larson was over there with me. His partner was
- 35:11Speaker 7: the plumber. So they're working all day. We practiced at
- 35:13Speaker 7: six thirty at night. Now, there was a few good
- 35:17Speaker 7: players in Milan, like Erry Curry was over there, Mark
- 35:20Speaker 7: Naprier and there's some different guys that came over. But
- 35:22Speaker 7: it wasn't like, you know, you know, it wasn't a
- 35:25Speaker 7: you know, a you know, intense sort of hockey league.
- 35:28Speaker 7: There was two really good teams. We were one of
- 35:30Speaker 7: the Okay Mountain teams us in Ballsano, but the Milan
- 35:32Speaker 7: teams had the most money, so they were able to
- 35:34Speaker 7: pay more, and so that part of it was, you
- 35:37Speaker 7: know what it was the best part was to see
- 35:39Speaker 7: the world because you had some time off, so you'd
- 35:42Speaker 7: take a train over to Paris. I'd drive to Munich
- 35:45Speaker 7: for October Fest stuff like that. You know that you're
- 35:47Speaker 7: not doing over here right now. If you live near
- 35:50Speaker 7: New York City or something, you can you know, zip
- 35:52Speaker 7: in there. But in general, there's just it was a
- 35:55Speaker 7: little more laid back, so you had, you know, and
- 35:57Speaker 7: I saw Rome Venice a number of times. I'd go
- 36:01Speaker 7: to so seeing part of the world where probably the
- 36:03Speaker 7: best memories. Now we're over there for the Olympics this
- 36:06Speaker 7: year in Milan, and you're kind of back at it
- 36:09Speaker 7: a little bit but that was a little more. That
- 36:11Speaker 7: was obviously a business trip, so not as much getting around.
- 36:15Speaker 7: But yeah, you know, listen, you made a little more
- 36:18Speaker 7: money than you did the miners. Back then, they didn't
- 36:21Speaker 7: pay much in the miners. Like there was a right
- 36:23Speaker 7: after that when the eye opened up a little bit,
- 36:25Speaker 7: they started paying a little more in Vegas. I think
- 36:27Speaker 7: it was Vegas, San Diego, some of these bigger markets,
- 36:29Speaker 7: the Wolves, Detroit, they started playing the guys a little better.
- 36:32Speaker 7: But when I was in the miners, you know, it
- 36:33Speaker 7: was there was just, you know, less freedom to move around.
- 36:36Speaker 7: There wasn't there wasn't a whole lot of money being
- 36:38Speaker 7: a minor league Ocup player.
- 36:39Speaker 1: How old was Jerry Curry when he was playing fifty seven?
- 36:42Speaker 2: Did he still was?
- 36:42Speaker 7: No, No, he was still good. But I think it
- 36:46Speaker 7: was right after so it was ninety two or ninety three.
- 36:49Speaker 7: I mean, when did he win his last Cup and
- 36:52Speaker 7: did he play in that? Was it eighty eight nine? Yea,
- 36:56Speaker 7: So he wasn't that far removed from from winning, so
- 36:59Speaker 7: it was obviously still. I thought it was great playing
- 37:01Speaker 7: against them. I mean, there's a guy that one of
- 37:03Speaker 7: the most under did probably players ever play. I thought
- 37:06Speaker 7: it was great.
- 37:07Speaker 2: A lot in common with that Meanton Inventus.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I'm sure go ahead you yeah, Well I was gonna
- 37:12Speaker 4: say that's why I'm like, okay, so Boston. He wanted
- 37:15Speaker 4: to be close to the North End, get the pasta
- 37:19Speaker 4: a little bit of Italy, your three seasons in Italy.
- 37:21Speaker 7: But I got I got raised shirt on. He's got
- 37:23Speaker 7: a restaurant, I was. It's a great spot.
- 37:27Speaker 4: So I was doing color for the Sharks and I
- 37:30Speaker 4: went to his restaurant. I always go when I'm in town.
- 37:32Speaker 4: But uh, you know, talking about when you started in Providence,
- 37:36Speaker 4: you know you had a young Brad Marshad, But how
- 37:38Speaker 4: was that transition for you? Like was it always something
- 37:41Speaker 4: in your head when you were playing, and maybe it
- 37:43Speaker 4: was the years in Italy and as your career is
- 37:45Speaker 4: winding down where you're like, I want to go coach,
- 37:47Speaker 4: and and how'd you get that opportunity with the with
- 37:50Speaker 4: in Providence? And then also, you know, how was that
- 37:54Speaker 4: transition getting a Brad Marchhaan, that's that's so young and
- 37:57Speaker 4: you know you're thrown in the mix.
- 38:00Speaker 7: Well, you know what's ironic is Nate Thompson was supposed
- 38:03Speaker 7: to be on that team and I think he got
- 38:04Speaker 7: picked up by the Islanders, so you know, all of
- 38:08Speaker 7: a sudden it opens the door for the Marsh. And
- 38:10Speaker 7: there's a kid named Laddie Sabotka was a good little
- 38:13Speaker 7: player too, and I think he's back, he's playing in Chechyre.
- 38:17Speaker 7: But yeah, Marsh was great. He was a student of
- 38:22Speaker 7: the game, the hardest working guy, always the last guy
- 38:25Speaker 7: off practice. You know, this guy was not going to
- 38:27Speaker 7: be denied through lack of effort. You know, sometimes you
- 38:31Speaker 7: just don't have the skill set or whatnot. He found
- 38:33Speaker 7: his way up there and worked his way up from
- 38:35Speaker 7: the fourth line to the second line to the top line.
- 38:37Speaker 7: So good for him. But yeah, that that one came
- 38:40Speaker 7: into play. I'd already had a chance in Washington when
- 38:43Speaker 7: I was young, and it, you know then, you know,
- 38:45Speaker 7: kind of bounced around a bit. So that was the
- 38:48Speaker 7: opportunity for me was to get back in it. And
- 38:50Speaker 7: Peter Shrelly was a friend of mine from Ottawa, so
- 38:53Speaker 7: they were looking for a coach and so I called
- 38:55Speaker 7: him up, and you know that that got it going
- 38:58Speaker 7: again and it was a good organization for me. It
- 39:01Speaker 7: was good timing. I spent a lot of eight years
- 39:02Speaker 7: in the miners, there in Providence, thought it, you know,
- 39:05Speaker 7: really helped me for the next job in Boston, So
- 39:08Speaker 7: it was all worth it in the end. And I
- 39:11Speaker 7: enjoyed listen. I enjoyed the teaching part of it. I
- 39:13Speaker 7: enjoyed being around the young guys. That's been most of
- 39:16Speaker 7: my career there until the last ten years, so I
- 39:18Speaker 7: didn't know if i'd get back up or not. And
- 39:21Speaker 7: here we are, Bruce.
- 39:22Speaker 4: I want to ask you quickly because you mentioned you know,
- 39:25Speaker 4: Brad wouldn't be denied, and you know it's hard to
- 39:28Speaker 4: teach guys that work ethic and you know, me not
- 39:30Speaker 4: being in a coaches room, how difficult for you is
- 39:33Speaker 4: it sometimes to like see a guy that you're coaching
- 39:36Speaker 4: and you're like, this guy doesn't even realize how good
- 39:40Speaker 4: he can be if he just figures out that part
- 39:43Speaker 4: that work ethic and trying to communicate that to them.
- 39:47Speaker 7: Yeah, I had a player say that to me once
- 39:50Speaker 7: after he's done. He said, I think the problem was
- 39:52Speaker 7: you wanted it more than I did, right, And that's
- 39:55Speaker 7: that That was a little bit of the dilemma you
- 39:58Speaker 7: have as a coach because you want those So for me,
- 40:02Speaker 7: being a guy that spent most of my life in
- 40:04Speaker 7: the mind or I really like enjoyed seeing a guy
- 40:07Speaker 7: make the next step, make a little money, you know,
- 40:09Speaker 7: get to the NHL. That's everyone's dream. No one dreams
- 40:11Speaker 7: about being a minor league player, right, So you know
- 40:15Speaker 7: that that made me feel good. It also helped me.
- 40:17Speaker 7: You know, Listen, you're a coach. You need to hang
- 40:20Speaker 7: your hat on something. You got to win, but in
- 40:22Speaker 7: the miners, they don't always have it. You know, you're
- 40:24Speaker 7: developing more than winning. So if you can develop players,
- 40:26Speaker 7: you can build a reputation as that part of it.
- 40:29Speaker 7: So there was that part in it for the coach,
- 40:31Speaker 7: but you know, I more more excited to see the
- 40:34Speaker 7: player make it because I went through it. I know
- 40:36Speaker 7: the grind of it, and it's not easy to climb
- 40:39Speaker 7: over people and be a good teammate in the miners
- 40:41Speaker 7: yet outplay the guy beside you, because that's what you
- 40:43Speaker 7: essentially got to do to get up. So so that
- 40:47Speaker 7: that's the part that I always found challenging is when
- 40:50Speaker 7: the player would be like, you know, you don't know
- 40:52Speaker 7: how close you are, but if it just and you
- 40:55Speaker 7: go through, you went through go through a lot of those.
- 40:57Speaker 7: There's still guys I'm sure. In the American League coaches
- 41:01Speaker 7: you'd ask them, they'd say the same thing, right, They
- 41:04Speaker 7: just they don't want it bad enough, and and eventually
- 41:07Speaker 7: that's that's your ticket out because there's a lot of skill.
- 41:10Speaker 7: A guy could get drafted first round or second round
- 41:12Speaker 7: or down there. There's all kinds of skill around him,
- 41:14Speaker 7: and you've got to find a way to kind of
- 41:16Speaker 7: step ahead of a guy, and it might be changing
- 41:18Speaker 7: your you know, your your game a little bit. I
- 41:20Speaker 7: remember when I was that age. It was Doug Gilmour, right,
- 41:22Speaker 7: he was, he was he's a couple of years older
- 41:24Speaker 7: than me, but yeah, he's in junior hockey, he's a study,
- 41:27Speaker 7: he's the leading scorer, and then he goes to I
- 41:29Speaker 7: can't remember his Calgary or Saint Louis, what the order was,
- 41:32Speaker 7: but he goes down there and he becomes a fourth
- 41:34Speaker 7: line guy and grinds and then all of a sudden
- 41:36Speaker 7: he gets you know, he climbs up and he's a
- 41:39Speaker 7: first line superstar. So there's a little bit of that
- 41:43Speaker 7: in there too. But you know, no one could tell
- 41:44Speaker 7: me Killer didn't want it more than the next guy, right,
- 41:47Speaker 7: Like his effort was one hundred percent every night. So
- 41:50Speaker 7: there's all kinds of those stories, but sometimes it just
- 41:52Speaker 7: doesn't translate to the players, and that's the way that goals.
- 41:55Speaker 7: You got to move on. I guess it's it's too
- 41:57Speaker 7: bad for some of them, but that's that's hockey. That's
- 42:00Speaker 7: that's their choice that they end up making.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Yeah, we did.
- 42:04Speaker 7: We.
- 42:05Speaker 3: I think we missed each other by minutes, you know,
- 42:07Speaker 3: being in Providence the year before we getting picked up
- 42:09Speaker 3: off waivers by the Islanders. You might know more than me,
- 42:13Speaker 3: but I heard that Brad was supposed to join our
- 42:16Speaker 3: team in the playoffs the previous season but didn't for whatever,
- 42:21Speaker 3: for whatever reason. Another guy I wanted to touch on too,
- 42:25Speaker 3: who I played with that year year before you came in,
- 42:27Speaker 3: was too Kerask. And you know, we know how competitive
- 42:31Speaker 3: he is, and you got to see, I guess, his
- 42:34Speaker 3: his temper, his temper flair, and we all know what
- 42:37Speaker 3: goes back to when he loses it in that game
- 42:39Speaker 3: and throws a stick. How were you able to calm
- 42:41Speaker 3: this guy down and maybe him, you know, toe the
- 42:44Speaker 3: line with you know, being that competitive guy and not
- 42:47Speaker 3: losing it at the same time.
- 42:48Speaker 7: Yeah, that was funny. The milk create incident. I was
- 42:50Speaker 7: I was you know the dress room probably right. I
- 42:53Speaker 7: was halfway down the hallway in the coach's office and
- 42:56Speaker 7: everyone's going bananas. So I missed half of it, but
- 42:59Speaker 7: it's out there, you can google it. So but I
- 43:03Speaker 7: think once when I had him in Boston, he was
- 43:05Speaker 7: a pretty measured guy.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Uh.
- 43:06Speaker 7: So he obviously learned that, yes, and he's got passion,
- 43:10Speaker 7: he's got fired and you should, right, you'd like to
- 43:11Speaker 7: see that out of especially a leadership position like that.
- 43:15Speaker 7: So you know, he he learned over the years that
- 43:18Speaker 7: you know, there's certain stuff that could probably do and
- 43:20Speaker 7: other stuff you'd have to sort of focus, uh and
- 43:24Speaker 7: channel that into uh sort of positive energy if you could.
- 43:28Speaker 7: But I love Tuca. We're still buddies golf a little
- 43:30Speaker 7: bit here and there. I think he was great goalie
- 43:32Speaker 7: for Boston. I think the fans I don't think they
- 43:34Speaker 7: ever gave him his due there. I think maybe because
- 43:36Speaker 7: Timmy Thomas had such a run that year that the
- 43:39Speaker 7: standard got set so high. But I thought Tuca was,
- 43:42Speaker 7: you know, one of the best in Boston.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Bruce, you're on Team Canna's coaching staff for both Four
- 43:46Speaker 1: Nations and the Olympics. Three of the four of US
- 43:49Speaker 1: are Canadian, So don't hold it against Nate that he's
- 43:51Speaker 1: the lone Yankee here. Can we just admit what a
- 43:54Speaker 1: joke the three on three is, like, clearly Cannon is
- 43:56Speaker 1: a better team.
- 43:56Speaker 5: We want to three one.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Bruce would have won.
- 44:01Speaker 7: Yeah, that's uh, that's a you know, listen, we beat
- 44:04Speaker 7: the Checks three on three, right, so and then you
- 44:07Speaker 7: you know it's it's I don't remember that, but I
- 44:10Speaker 7: do agree with you. They need to find a way
- 44:12Speaker 7: to play at least one overtime period. I know that
- 44:15Speaker 7: when the questions were asked, it was always, well, they
- 44:17Speaker 7: always want the game up against the closing ceremonies, right,
- 44:21Speaker 7: they want the game to end then they can start.
- 44:22Speaker 7: So maybe there's a way to. I mean it's an hour,
- 44:27Speaker 7: right extra half a Canadians. Well, for whoever, no one's
- 44:32Speaker 7: going to like losing that way. And I guess it's
- 44:36Speaker 7: the old it's the same for both teams type of thing.
- 44:38Speaker 7: But they should address that. They really should, you know,
- 44:43Speaker 7: just to find a way to because you're right, it
- 44:45Speaker 7: is four years four years at work, you know, you
- 44:48Speaker 7: think four years at least at least one period of
- 44:51Speaker 7: of five on five. And then I guess you know,
- 44:54Speaker 7: do what you gotta do.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Who's the who's the player that impressed you the most
- 44:58Speaker 4: that you didn't know and when you were there with
- 45:01Speaker 4: Team Canada at the Olympics, and and what can you
- 45:04Speaker 4: tell us about him?
- 45:06Speaker 7: Well? Then you know the big guys, did There two
- 45:08Speaker 7: guys I guess uh Devon T's uh d Man with Colorado,
- 45:15Speaker 7: you know, just such a solid player, not a big guy,
- 45:19Speaker 7: not flashy, not dynamic, but always in the right spot, smart,
- 45:22Speaker 7: makes plays. I think he's the guy that had the
- 45:24Speaker 7: open net, didn't it with with Hella Buck making that
- 45:28Speaker 7: save in the crease to that one where the kind
- 45:30Speaker 7: of stick you know what I mean? And then hegel
- 45:35Speaker 7: up front with Tampa. Uh really impressed is more at
- 45:40Speaker 7: the Four Nations probably than the Olympics, about how how
- 45:44Speaker 7: good a Plury was in all situations. Penalty killer, uh
- 45:47Speaker 7: can scores, got pace, got a little grit, good scrap.
- 45:51Speaker 7: Last night again too, was it last night he fought again?
- 45:54Speaker 7: You know the fight in mar you know against Kachuk.
- 45:57Speaker 7: So those two guys, because I'm picking more under their
- 45:59Speaker 7: I mean, the other guys are you know well talked
- 46:02Speaker 7: about the mckinnons and mcdavids, with the Those are probably
- 46:04Speaker 7: two guys that maybe you don't realize quite uh, you know,
- 46:09Speaker 7: how dynamic they are till you untill you're right there.
- 46:15Speaker 3: On the coaching staff to Bruce, you know, your coach
- 46:17Speaker 3: with Pete de boor Rick Talckett uh and then John Cooper.
- 46:21Speaker 3: These guys are obviously legendary coaches. Were there different things
- 46:25Speaker 3: you took from these guys to uh?
- 46:27Speaker 7: For sure? I think Coop is uh such a good
- 46:30Speaker 7: speaker in front of the group because timing is always excellent.
- 46:36Speaker 7: He uses a lot of you know, sort of comparable
- 46:40Speaker 7: stories to mix in his message. This smart guy, you know,
- 46:45Speaker 7: and and he relates to the player as well. He
- 46:48Speaker 7: seems to know what needs to be said at the
- 46:50Speaker 7: right time. He's obviously has had tremendous success, you know,
- 46:54Speaker 7: with the same group. That's hard to do to hold
- 46:56Speaker 7: their attention. So I think he's you know, he's pretty
- 46:59Speaker 7: dynamic that way. I love talk talk the details guy,
- 47:05Speaker 7: That's what I am. And you know, we talk a
- 47:07Speaker 7: lot about different areas of the game. You know, Pete
- 47:11Speaker 7: a really good defensive zone structure I think is his
- 47:13Speaker 7: strength and PK stuff. He's more on the defensive side
- 47:18Speaker 7: of the puck, so you're taking stuff like I like
- 47:20Speaker 7: the way our our, my teams, whatever you want to
- 47:23Speaker 7: call him, have played zone over the years. I think
- 47:25Speaker 7: the numbers support that. But Pete's is interesting. It's a
- 47:27Speaker 7: little different, a little more aggressive, and maybe that's something
- 47:30Speaker 7: you think down the road. Well, if you want to
- 47:31Speaker 7: get away from something, i'd certainly. I don't know if
- 47:35Speaker 7: the word is steal from him, because everyone takes it's
- 47:38Speaker 7: It's kind of that league, right, You're always taking something
- 47:41Speaker 7: from someone if it's successful. So uh, I he did
- 47:43Speaker 7: a real good job with that. David Alexander's a goalie coach.
- 47:46Speaker 7: He's he's a great guy, hard working, detailed, so it
- 47:50Speaker 7: was a great staff. Misha Don Scoff is doing the
- 47:52Speaker 7: pre scote. I think he's coaching the World championship team
- 47:55Speaker 7: this year for Canada, so had him in Vegas. So
- 47:58Speaker 7: I was lucky to be surrounded by guys that all
- 48:00Speaker 7: got along and all kind of I don't want to
- 48:03Speaker 7: say stated their lane, but knew their role and tried
- 48:06Speaker 7: to just support John anyway they could. And I thought
- 48:08Speaker 7: we did a good job with her.
- 48:10Speaker 1: We'll get you out here in a minute, but pretty
- 48:11Speaker 1: cool that you get to know Bill Belichick a little
- 48:13Speaker 1: bit while you're in Yeah, yes, I mean from Bill Belichick.
- 48:17Speaker 5: Yeah, he was you know what dating advice.
- 48:22Speaker 3: I thought that was coming.
- 48:23Speaker 7: Put that in my back pocket. He I talked to him. Actually,
- 48:29Speaker 7: we had the layoff before the nineteen finals against Saint Louis.
- 48:32Speaker 7: We'd we'd swept Carolina, so we had eleven days, so
- 48:35Speaker 7: I'd called him because he does that. You know, they
- 48:37Speaker 7: used to have the two week prep for Super Bowl,
- 48:39Speaker 7: and someone said you should call him. So we had
- 48:41Speaker 7: a great chat. I didn't think he was going to
- 48:44Speaker 7: get back to me. My phone rings that quarter to
- 48:46Speaker 7: eleven at night. I'm not going to answer it, and
- 48:48Speaker 7: I do because it wasn't his number it was and
- 48:50Speaker 7: he's like, sorry, Bruce, I'm grinding at PTOs or whatever
- 48:52Speaker 7: they're called all day.
- 48:53Speaker 5: And he got back.
- 48:54Speaker 7: We chatted for a good half an hour, just about
- 48:57Speaker 7: he's a details guy too, and about how teams often
- 49:02Speaker 7: if you're just ready and prepared, they'll beat themselves and
- 49:04Speaker 7: situations and just little things like that, and so you
- 49:07Speaker 7: kind of remind me about that. With the extra time,
- 49:10Speaker 7: make sure you revisit the little things. Maybe face off coverages,
- 49:13Speaker 7: et cetera over that time and it just kind of
- 49:17Speaker 7: grew from there. We kept in touch over the years
- 49:19Speaker 7: and he's a good fellow to talk talk sports with, right,
- 49:24Speaker 7: you know, and like I said, I really enjoyed it.
- 49:26Speaker 7: I think he was a rugby guy, if I'm not mistaken,
- 49:29Speaker 7: way back when, and obviously he was that sort of
- 49:33Speaker 7: team sport to translate to football.
- 49:35Speaker 4: My one thing that I love that you said there
- 49:38Speaker 4: too with Bill is like the details side and being
- 49:42Speaker 4: prepared is I love every face off having a plan.
- 49:45Speaker 4: Doesn't matter what zone you're in, neutral zone. Everyone should
- 49:48Speaker 4: know loss or when, what's the play, what we're doing.
- 49:52Speaker 4: And I find the young generation a lot of the
- 49:54Speaker 4: young centers now and Nate can talk to this too,
- 49:57Speaker 4: but like they don't address that at the line. Like
- 50:00Speaker 4: I played some guys Brad Richardson, and every time we
- 50:02Speaker 4: got to the face off was like, what's our details here?
- 50:05Speaker 5: What is everybody's job? And then we're ready to go.
- 50:08Speaker 4: So I feel like that's something that's lost and can
- 50:10Speaker 4: be taken a little bit from the football side, where
- 50:12Speaker 4: there's always a set play, there's always something being run.
- 50:15Speaker 7: Yeah, I agree with you, and we try to, you know,
- 50:17Speaker 7: give the guys two or three options, and then you
- 50:19Speaker 7: know they're they're gonna have to make some decisions on
- 50:21Speaker 7: the fly, especially after an icing, right, you can't, you know,
- 50:24Speaker 7: start yelling from the bench to the other end. Hey,
- 50:26Speaker 7: so you hope that the center and the detailed control,
- 50:28Speaker 7: they're usually the ones that drive that. The dno what
- 50:31Speaker 7: pressure is coming at in the center, you know, wants
- 50:34Speaker 7: to get his wingers in order. So agree with you
- 50:36Speaker 7: one hundred percent. You know every play is valuable, even
- 50:40Speaker 7: you know, playoffs, one one missed sort of assignment in
- 50:42Speaker 7: the face off in these close games. So you know
- 50:46Speaker 7: that that has to be drilled into the players. And
- 50:48Speaker 7: that's where your assistant coaches really come in handy, Right,
- 50:50Speaker 7: they should have a good sheet when guys come off
- 50:53Speaker 7: the ice, what's working, seeing what the other team's doing,
- 50:55Speaker 7: if they're adjusting, how they're for check in when you
- 50:58Speaker 7: do get your wins or what what plays are running.
- 51:01Speaker 7: And there's some teams out there that are like you know,
- 51:04Speaker 7: aways thought Dallas was so frigging dangerous when Pavelski was
- 51:08Speaker 7: there and playing with Ben Ands again, then they always
- 51:10Speaker 7: had two They always had two centermen on every line,
- 51:14Speaker 7: one each hand. So you always had to be ready
- 51:17Speaker 7: in your di zel for something was coming at you.
- 51:19Speaker 7: And you know, a couple of those guys aren't playing now,
- 51:22Speaker 7: but I still think they're a strong face off team.
- 51:24Speaker 7: But that was a team that always gave you fits
- 51:27Speaker 7: last time.
- 51:28Speaker 1: For me, Bruce, I love the way Butch casting the
- 51:30Speaker 1: Sundance Kids. Sadly we no longer have Paul Newman and
- 51:32Speaker 1: Robert Redford with us. Who was the first one to
- 51:34Speaker 1: give you the nickname Butch.
- 51:37Speaker 7: Well, it was a guy. His name was Gavin. I
- 51:39Speaker 7: forget the last name right now. I was twelve years
- 51:42Speaker 7: old and playing. He was the I think the manager
- 51:45Speaker 7: of the hockey team. So he comes up to me
- 51:47Speaker 7: one day he says, Butch Cat. I didn't know what
- 51:49Speaker 7: the hell he was talking about.
- 51:50Speaker 3: I was twelve.
- 51:51Speaker 7: I never saw the movie. So my mom's mad because
- 51:55Speaker 7: she doesn't like that name. I don't want them to
- 51:57Speaker 7: call you, you know. And then someone else came along
- 51:59Speaker 7: with hop along. It was I find out it's an
- 52:01Speaker 7: old Notre Dame running back or something. So just a
- 52:04Speaker 7: young guy. But I'll tell you what I did do.
- 52:06Speaker 7: I eventually watched the movie The Ring Dropski fallows ye
- 52:09Speaker 7: in my head, that's all I took from the movie
- 52:11Speaker 7: there riding around their bikes. So I eventually got to
- 52:14Speaker 7: the movie. I enjoyed it, and it's stuck. It's been
- 52:18Speaker 7: a long time, so it's almost fifty years now, so
- 52:20Speaker 7: what the hell.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Embrace the nickname, embrace the world around your Bruce Castie's
- 52:26Speaker 1: had a remarkable career in hockey.
- 52:27Speaker 2: He will be behind the bench sooner rather than later.
- 52:30Speaker 2: So enjoy the golf.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Wlay you Cam, Bruce, enjoy those kids in high school,
- 52:33Speaker 1: and enjoy the playoffs.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Man, we'll talk to you soon, all right.
- 52:35Speaker 7: Thanks, fella's appreciate it.
- 52:43Speaker 2: We will get to pole position in just a second.
- 52:45Speaker 1: And thanks once again to Bruce Caside for joining us
- 52:47Speaker 1: Cinephile and sixty bait is on Amazon Prime.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Terrific young anchor.
- 52:51Speaker 1: A young actor rizamed right now in a six part
- 52:54Speaker 1: series with a funny see what would happen if he's
- 52:57Speaker 1: cast is James Bond? Continuing the theme here of South
- 53:00Speaker 1: Asian representation. We already have Sunny Meta mentioned as might
- 53:02Speaker 1: as well get Rizza met out there. My people are
- 53:04Speaker 1: taken over Pakistani actor Muslim background when his family finds
- 53:08Speaker 1: it he's being cast as James Bond.
- 53:09Speaker 2: It's bedlam in London.
- 53:11Speaker 5: They're brokering a they're brokering a peace steal too.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Brown people are taking over right now when everybody can
- 53:17Speaker 1: get done. You go to London, I always Joe. People
- 53:20Speaker 1: say why don't you drink coffee? That's why I drink tea.
- 53:22Speaker 1: They said what I said, listen, England used to colonize
- 53:24Speaker 1: Indian Pakistan.
- 53:25Speaker 2: So then once they left, he said, well, we'll keep
- 53:27Speaker 2: the tea.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Though we'd like to be our own indent, sovereign nation,
- 53:30Speaker 1: we do like tea over coffee, so like a good
- 53:31Speaker 1: chi bottom line is this. It's a really funny series.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Six episodes, twenty two minutes each. It makes you long
- 53:36Speaker 1: for the day's fellas. Twenty two episodes, Nice and Lean Quick,
- 53:40Speaker 1: Get it in, Get it Out, a really funny conceit
- 53:42Speaker 1: and his best friend on the show.
- 53:43Speaker 2: I don't know him. He's a British comic.
- 53:44Speaker 1: The guy is hysterical, absolutely scene stealing. So six episodes.
- 53:48Speaker 1: It's called bait on Amazon Prime. What would happened if
- 53:50Speaker 1: Riz Ahmed would be cast as James Bond? Yes, the
- 53:53Speaker 1: racists have a field day with that. Also, of note,
- 53:56Speaker 1: he's staring his Hamlet, So this guy's got range man,
- 53:58Speaker 1: he can show up in a comedic series Amazon Prime
- 54:00Speaker 1: and also play Hamlet. Big on Rizzamed look forward to
- 54:03Speaker 1: checking out Bait on amas on Prime. And a quick
- 54:05Speaker 1: thought on Michael, which is the new film opening on
- 54:07Speaker 1: Michael Jackson getting Torch right now thirty five percent Rotten Tomatoes.
- 54:12Speaker 1: And one of the challenges with this apparently his JD.
- 54:15Speaker 1: They do not address at all the major issue of pedophilia.
- 54:18Speaker 1: So you're gonna do a movie about this guy and
- 54:20Speaker 1: not put it the fact career was absolutely waylaid by
- 54:23Speaker 1: the fact finding never Land was a little more than
- 54:26Speaker 1: about finding never Land. If you're following my drift from
- 54:28Speaker 1: that would make a hard u turn to position, how
- 54:30Speaker 1: do we bring this one back? The National Hockeley Player
- 54:33Speaker 1: Association with was easing the results of their annual players polls.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Take a moment to see what the players think.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Alexander Barkoff Nate named the forward who will be the
- 54:40Speaker 1: best Demon out of Mitch Marner and Sidney Crosby. Cal
- 54:43Speaker 1: mccarr named demon who'd be the best forward? That's pretty
- 54:46Speaker 1: straightforward one, Adequin Hughes on Eric Carlson. Both of those
- 54:48Speaker 1: guys obviously can fly and Jordan Bennington. I love this one,
- 54:51Speaker 1: best puckcailing skills, goalie. I was hoping for Joey Decord
- 54:55Speaker 1: former gastire on NHL in scripted and ahead of also
- 54:57Speaker 1: Egosi historic your thoughts on any of those three, Nate.
- 55:01Speaker 3: I mean I could think of especially the D the
- 55:05Speaker 3: D one like best forward. Like I even thought of
- 55:08Speaker 3: like Lane Hudson would be a really good forward, right
- 55:10Speaker 3: he'd be. Yeah, I mean I'm not mad about it.
- 55:14Speaker 3: I mean, Jordan Bennington he is, and Jordan Baton when
- 55:17Speaker 3: he plays well, he's like better with the puck. So
- 55:21Speaker 3: I'm not mad about these. These are all pretty spot on.
- 55:23Speaker 3: I mean, and He's are voted by the players, so
- 55:25Speaker 3: they know more than anybody.
- 55:27Speaker 4: They clearly don't because they put William Nielanders most fashionable.
- 55:30Speaker 2: We'll get to that in a second.
- 55:31Speaker 4: You fucking think I'm listening to any one of those
- 55:33Speaker 4: guys in the NHL we played with him, Nate, true.
- 55:37Speaker 5: I but some of them, dude jiu jitsu.
- 55:39Speaker 3: I think it is so gay they they but like
- 55:43Speaker 3: I think they just put down Willie because it's Willy
- 55:46Speaker 3: and he's got his own Have.
- 55:48Speaker 4: You seen Sergachev awful, He's got some he is very
- 55:53Speaker 4: I think it's terrible.
- 55:54Speaker 3: I think it's terrible. He's all over the map. I
- 55:56Speaker 3: mean some days it's okay, but.
- 55:57Speaker 5: Other days you're like what the Russians are.
- 55:59Speaker 4: He wears like the the high tops, like the fucking
- 56:02Speaker 4: almost like the heel boots, the Doc Martin's. He's a
- 56:06Speaker 4: wild one. He has his own chickens and everything. Guy's
- 56:09Speaker 4: an amazing We gotta go.
- 56:10Speaker 3: We gotta have some kind of I was talking a
- 56:12Speaker 3: boiler about this yesterday. We gotta have some kind of
- 56:14Speaker 3: guideline on the like the no dress, it's over the top, yeah.
- 56:18Speaker 7: Very much.
- 56:19Speaker 2: I don't like we're in a tie. How about suit,
- 56:20Speaker 2: no tie.
- 56:21Speaker 5: Bring back suit or just have a guideline, just be
- 56:24Speaker 5: like professional, Like you can't come in looking like yeah,
- 56:28Speaker 5: some guys just coming like a T shirt.
- 56:30Speaker 4: I mean, if it was me, if when I was
- 56:32Speaker 4: in the league and they started trending that way, I
- 56:34Speaker 4: just wear sweatpants to the game.
- 56:36Speaker 5: But sweatpants just might as wear sweatpants. You look like
- 56:40Speaker 5: you just you just.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Bed Yeah correct, you just rolled one out in a
- 56:44Speaker 1: saria rolling into the rink. Oh you did, jerk off jokes,
- 56:48Speaker 1: more afraid d David Pasta.
- 56:50Speaker 5: You've downgraded to jerk off jokes.
- 56:52Speaker 2: David Pasha Pasta the best nickname. No mention of Big Dick,
- 56:55Speaker 2: Dan Muse.
- 56:56Speaker 1: Clayton Keller voted best Golfer.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Added g T.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Miaylor and Sam Lafferty and Sydney Crosby vote a player
- 57:03Speaker 1: who makes the best coach out of Nick Felino and
- 57:06Speaker 1: David Parron as well. Mckainnon voted player the best training regimen.
- 57:09Speaker 1: I added McDavid and La Tang and Abbs leaves best rivalry.
- 57:13Speaker 5: Habbs leaves best this well, yeah, I guess all the time.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Abs leaves Flyers Penguins, Great Bruins Penguins.
- 57:20Speaker 4: I mean there's a lot of good rivalries right now
- 57:22Speaker 4: in the NHL. Tampa Tampa Montreal might be leaves, but you.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Agree on Keller voted best golfer. You're a golf guy.
- 57:29Speaker 3: You know this. He's I played with him, He's he's
- 57:32Speaker 3: on plus plus handicap, right, Yeah.
- 57:34Speaker 5: He's he's incredible.
- 57:36Speaker 4: Yeah, he plays like he plays against he plays against
- 57:39Speaker 4: like John Rahm and those guys, has like obviously gets strokes,
- 57:43Speaker 4: but like has good matches.
- 57:44Speaker 5: With him wows.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Caesars Arena, by the way, board the best visitors dressing
- 57:50Speaker 1: room had a climate Little Caesars, Yeah, very good, Little
- 57:55Speaker 1: I had a Climate Pledge arena and Delta Center.
- 57:58Speaker 4: I was not in Climate Pledge or Delta Center. So
- 58:01Speaker 4: thanks for rubbing that in Na con confirmed.
- 58:06Speaker 7: I was hurt.
- 58:07Speaker 3: I was hurt the year that the team went to Seattle,
- 58:09Speaker 3: So I didn't I haven't.
- 58:09Speaker 4: Seen talking about jerk Off stories now here rubbing salt
- 58:13Speaker 4: in the woodsky too?
- 58:17Speaker 5: How about this not doing his research?
- 58:19Speaker 1: Houston borde of the city they'd like to see an
- 58:20Speaker 1: NHL expansion team, bull it should be Quebec.
- 58:23Speaker 2: City in Atlanta.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Well, Quebec I think was two though no Quebec was two.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Atlanta was third, but number one Houston, Okay.
- 58:30Speaker 5: With that j D. Yeah, I mean I'd love Quebec.
- 58:33Speaker 4: But you know, I was having a conversation with Steve
- 58:35Speaker 4: Conroy and my dad was in town actually for his
- 58:38Speaker 4: birthday last week. Toe We brought him to the studio
- 58:41Speaker 4: birthday and they just don't happy birthday, pops. And they
- 58:45Speaker 4: just don't have the corporate sponsorships enough.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Billionaire, did a billionaire?
- 58:51Speaker 5: Well, they need a.
- 58:51Speaker 4: Lot of corporate sponsorships, and there's just not enough industry there,
- 58:54Speaker 4: I think to support it.
- 58:56Speaker 5: I think Houston would be great.
- 58:58Speaker 4: Great rivalry with Dallas helps, with Colorado helps in the central.
- 59:03Speaker 5: It's easy, except ability to get up north to play.
- 59:06Speaker 5: You know, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Aren't you tired of Atlanta?
- 59:10Speaker 2: Would you give Atlanta one more chance of now? Been there,
- 59:12Speaker 2: done that?
- 59:13Speaker 5: I was just there. It's the worst traffic on the
- 59:15Speaker 5: planet earth.
- 59:15Speaker 2: It is horrific traffic.
- 59:16Speaker 5: Slip my and I can't say that.
- 59:18Speaker 2: One more for both to get No, we don't have suicide.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Montreal voted Montreal voted best ice night out of Edmonton
- 59:24Speaker 1: and Winnipeg.
- 59:25Speaker 2: I thought Edmonton best ice. People love the ice there.
- 59:28Speaker 5: I love that.
- 59:29Speaker 3: I thought Winnipeg would be number one, but I guess
- 59:32Speaker 3: it's it's it's always the Canadian cities have the best ice.
- 59:36Speaker 5: I never loved the Montreal ice.
- 59:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I was shocked at that one too. I was
- 59:40Speaker 3: usually Edmonton and Winnipeg was the best, and mind they
- 59:42Speaker 3: put Montreal, so maybe maybe they've stepped their game up
- 59:45Speaker 3: in the ice conditions.
- 59:47Speaker 5: I love Florida BB and Te Center.
- 59:50Speaker 2: As JD mentioned earlier when he voted most fashionable.
- 59:53Speaker 1: I had a passak and Austin Matthews, So Austin one
- 59:56Speaker 1: of your guys that was at least in the top three.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Some other notes to clean it up Macklin cell Brandy
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: being Joe Thornton, Sharks franchise point mark one hundred and fifteen.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: J D still only nine teen years of.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: Age, and n happened like six weeks ago.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: Well but JD tal just want to put these in
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: here because we haven't wrapped it up since the last
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: we were on. So okay, McDavid gets a sixth art
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Ross Trophy, that's the second most mind Gretzky ties Mario
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: and Gordi Howe, and McKinnon wins the Rocket Rashard Trophy
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: fifty three goals, but also ninety seven even strength points
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: in eighty games. That's the highest total for a season
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: since Gretzky had one of the three even strength points
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety. So all those three McLean Celebrady McDavid,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: sixth art Ross, McKinnon Rocket Reshard.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Which one stands out to you, I.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: Mean, Celebrini, especially when you get a nod from Joe Thornton,
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: which he's supposed to be his landlord and he's just
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: out no shirt on somewhere on a beach. Should you
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: be making him dinner, pregame or postgame?
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: Uh?
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean Macklin, what he did this season, second year,
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: it's absolutely incredible. He's he's gonna win an art Ross
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: one of these years. I still think that we're putting
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: too much emphasis on making the playoffs for like a
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: heart trophy, when the actual definition of it is most
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: valuable to your team. I know that we put a big,
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: big price tag on making the playoffs. So but yeah,
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: I thought he's should have some heart votes. Incredible, incredible kid,
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: incredible person. So yeah, celebrating Nate for you.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: I'm with JD on this one. It's I mean, just
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: being nineteen years old and doing what he did. I
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: mean not just the NHL, but I mean, I know
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: the Olympics doesn't count, but like, I mean, everything he
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: did for San Jose. And I agree with JD too.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: I think that you know you have that many points
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: that you're nineteen, and there's that big of a gap
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: of points on your team where it was like fifty
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: points the next closest guy. I mean, that's your MVP
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: and that's that's the most impressive for me.
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: That's a nice gap. That is, as we like to say,
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: I got a nice gap and a couple.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: More to closings off.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Flowers is the Dan o'chara Boston legend. Gotta be the
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: most fit retired athlete of the planet. On Monday, the
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: former Bruins captain the starting pistol one hundred and thirtieth
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Boston Marathon, then ran the race for the third straight year.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Nate big Z' is a better shape than half the league.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: Yes he is. He's a better shape than each specimen.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: He's an absolute specimen. I got to witness it when
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: I was with the Bruins and training camp and he
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: came in as a free agent's first year, and this
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: guy ripped off thirty three pull ups and and didn't
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: even flinch. And I'm not talking pull ups where you're
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: you know, barely, you know, kind of all the way
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: like he was going all the way down. And the
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: strength coach at the time he would count guys pull
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: ups and he'd be like one, one, one, because you're
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: not going all the way down. Big Z ripped off
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: thirty three and the whole camp was watching. Everyone was
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: all around. Watching this guy ripping off thirty three pull
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: ups was insane. So uh yes, he is the best
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: conditioned guy in the world.
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: Jesus, Yeah, this is this is the picture of them.
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: Look at that. Yeah, and uh it's not.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: Skipping like day.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: Let me tell you that.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Right now he's ready to rock.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: I know he's probably still lifting and doing everything else too.
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: He's got Cole Bruins on it.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: No Bruins, I mean we had we had the same
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: agent too, Matt Cater and uh just this guy. You
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: have Mat Cater Mat Cater cater.
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: Club, cater Club, cater Club.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: All right, Cater, Well, one last time we have to
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: shut out.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Why at Russell flowers to him?
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Our friend came on a few weeks ago mentioned he
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: had bet earlier this season there was no way the
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Sabers would make the playoffs. We know what happened for
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: that judors were the actor Chugg Date Lake our beverage
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: of a Saber cup and sprinted into Lake Erie.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Uh nay, this is your boy, Why Russell loves you?
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: This is great, This was awesome. The best though, was
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: the post I know you guys saw it from Kurt
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: Russell and and talking and kind of throwing him under
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: the bus and tell them, hey, you better get ready
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: for this cold, cold water coming. Yeah, it was awesome,
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: and why uh that was that was fun having him on.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Guy doesn't like to talk at all, so it was
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: it was he was a great guy. Well what would
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: you take?
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: Would you take? Would you take freezing waters of Lake Erie?
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: Or asking why Russell question.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: I'll take the freezing water. I'll just go ahead and watch.
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: I'm fucking in the head first in that freezing water.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: I tell you that much. My buddy from home actually
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: texts me after he's listening to the pot and he goes,
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: holy fake quiet, like that's a lot. I love it.
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: He went on the empty he went on the empty
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: netters and uh, I texted the guys said i'd you
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: like him?
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: And again, why was amazing?
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: Such a good dude, so thoughtful, the way he spoke
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: and yeah, the way he you know, talked about his
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: career and also talked about everything and was so indire
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: party get cheated, but he no, he he's getting in
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: a word, He's getting in all the words he's expecting.
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: And I asked empty and editors guys like, how was it.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: They're like Oh, he's awesome, incredible, and I was like, uh,
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: I was like, we asked him two questions and we're
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: twenty two minutes into the interview and they were like, yeah,
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: They're like, he he likes to he likes he likes
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: to get his he likes to cover all the basest job.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: But I'm a fan of his noble work.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: By tal that interview ran fifty seven minutes and Edward
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: scissorhands over here chopped it down the thirty seven snip snap,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: we could have a two part episode instead tells you
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: twenty minutes.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: With no problems too.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: It's easy, easy, we should have.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Well, no two part interview and we're not going twice
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: a week, but we continue to HL Unscripted. We'll see
