And if you have theories, questions or Disney drama we should talk about, email us at chasing them magic pod at gmail.com. Thanks for listening and we'll see you next time as we keep chasing the magic. Ta ta for now. Hey everyone, I'm Laura. And I'm Lindy. Grab your Mickey ears. It's time to chase the magic. Lindee: What? I know. Yes. Laura: posting off to Lindee: on hallowed ground. Laura: Yeah, am so excited. Yep, and have to do I haven't looked up my lightning lane strategy in a hot minute. I need to do that at some point this week because next Tuesday in a week, I will be lightning lane strategy in the heck out of you know. Lindee: you Chasing The Magic: It's time for making memories and dreaming like daddies. Lindee: Yes. Cannot wait. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Laura: Supes excited! Lindee: I was thinking of something today with the whole Tron thing. Will it mess us up? Cause I know you were saying you want to basically close down the park, right? You want to stay late, get pictures, whatever. Will it mess us up if our Tron return time is at 10? It is from 10 to 11. No? Okay. But the park closes at 11. Laura: Yeah. Okay. ⁓ huh. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I don't think so. I would- no. Right, so technically we could go get in line for Tron at 10.59. They're not closing that line until 11. They're not closing those lines until 11. I think what people need to realize and like what I need to maybe put out there to people is like, we're probably, I, me, am probably staying at that park till 12.30 or 1. Lindee: Okay. Ooh. Okay, but how? Laura: Right. Because I'm just, if you just mill around Main Street and mill around the hub, like they kind of push you out, but then you can go into the shops, right? And they're not gonna shut down the shops. And if we kind of shop and then walk back up towards the hub and see that it's empty, I don't really know. I've just seen people do it and we're just gonna try it. Okay? Lindee: Okay. Okay. Laura: I might, I don't know, I've got a couple of influencers that I kind of am always in their DMs that I might be like, hey, do you have a strategy? This is what I want to do and like figure out how to do it. Lindee: Okay. Laura: So see what they say. Cause like one of them's worked at Disney World. So like she can definitely, you know, give me the goody good. And the other one's like a major, he works for theme park frog now. like they're. Legit people. Okay, so I'm glad not a lot of people listen to this because I forgot to tell you before we pressed record, but I need to tell you in case I forget because I have ADD. So for our little because shout out to Element, Elementee, however you say it, I'm saying element for this purpose. Okay, shout out to Element. They have they gave us some free. I don't know how to say it. They gave us some Lindee: Okay. I think it's element, but yeah. They are, well yeah, they, okay, yeah. ⁓ was gonna say exactly that. Laura: PR. They gave us some stuff. They gave us their little product. They gave us their product, which is a hydration stick, essentially, that you put in your water. Okay, so this only works. And so we have to be on the lookout, and I think it's gonna be so cute. This only works if we find elemental stuff in the parks, like ⁓ merch, like a little stuffy or something. And I can be like the super ⁓ Bridezilla bride on her... Lindee: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Laura: Bachelorette trip and be like, Lindy, hand me my element. And then you hand me like Ember or what was the water dude's name? Lindee: ⁓ my gosh. ⁓ it was, was it, was it with a W? Laura: remember his name. Brute, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne. So you you hand me something from Elemental and I'm like, no, not that, my elements stick. Lindee: Wayne, okay. Hahaha! Laura: I don't know. I thought it was cute. But whatever. But we have to find it. But we have to find it. I think it'd be cute if we could figure that out. I came up with that all on my own. I'm such a smart person. Lindee: That would be cute. I bet we can find elemental stuff. It's relevant enough. Laura: Yeah, well actually I just saw LoungeFly drop the backpack. So we might be able to, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's my idea. ⁓ But besides that, we're gonna be having so much fun. Lindee: Okay, so maybe at one of the stores. Mm-hmm. Can't wait. Laura: I'm excited. Me neither. All right, well, do you have, let's hop into. Do have any Dreamlight Valley updates? We've been getting some clues, right? I haven't played anything. Lindee: We have, they released some more clues today. ⁓ ⁓ let's see. It's definitely Hercules, right? So we know they're not being very sneaky about that. Not that they're trying to, but... ⁓ Laura: Right. Lindee: And yeah, I so the this, what do they call it? The springtime floating festival? ends today or it'll be and it will be over by the time you hear this. got everything but one thing and I am kind of kicking myself, but I also kind of don't care. So it's just one of those things like it's more of like I didn't check off that box. It's bothering me, but. Laura: Okay. ⁓ huh. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Lindee: That's okay. there's still like 20 something days to do the, the, the main, ⁓ my gosh, what is it? Nature? Yeah. is it? I can't remember what it's called because I haven't done it. ⁓ so we've got some time on that still. And this is what they released today. It says the call of gods echoes through the valley. Here's a glimpse of what's to come. Train like a hero in brand new. Laura: Star Path? Lindee: in a brand new realm. So that's exciting. ⁓ More decorating possibilities. Laura: Okay. Okay. Lindee: ⁓ Get ready for divine wardrobe rewards in a new star path. Wardrobe rewards, okay, so more clothes. I mean, I feel like it's nothing new. And then take on new photo challenges in an upcoming event. I wonder if they're gonna have like more opportunities for moonstones. Laura: Okay? I would hope so. Lindee: If they're doing multiple photo challenges, I don't know. So anyway, that was released today and on Tuesday, yes, the day we're recording this, which seems to change every week because life is crazy. Laura: right? Okay. You Life is crazy. Lindee: But that's okay. Laura: We're living our best lives though. Lindee: ⁓ yep. But yeah, that's, that's really all the June 8th. Laura: Okay. Okay, well Disney news, yes, we have some Disney news. Of course. So Disney is getting a new Fourth of July Fireworks Showtimes for Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Now, I don't know why that's such a big deal. Lindee: Any disease? Laura: I'm reading, I'm reading. So they're gonna beat Magic Kingdom. Guests can enjoy Disney Celebrate America at 9 p.m. July 3rd, 4th and 5th. Happily Ever After will not be performed at dates. Heartbeat of Freedom will be performed following Luminous, the Symphony of Us on July 3rd, 4th and 5th. Luminous begins at 9 and Heartbeat of Freedom begins at 9.15. Huh. Lindee: you Wow, and that's starting when? Laura: So July 3rd. So it's just the third, the fourth and the fifth. Yeah, it's just for the fourth for sure. A brand new mural themed to Disney Junior popped up at Hollywood Studios near the commissary, ABC commissary. So that'll be fun to see. kinda, it just is bubbles and it says Disney Junior. Lindee: Okay, right around. Okay, got it. Okay. Laura: Sofia the first and Superkitties on it. don't, so I don't, I don't know. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's ongoing updates will include new rainbow cavern scenes. So there's a new, so I guess they're continuing to update it. As of today, the iconic Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has reopened with new magic. Here's what you can expect. There's golden that there mountain. Lindee: Alrighty. Laura: takes you back to olden times rather than golden times during the early days of America's major, first major gold rush. Okay, that's the whole story. We don't really know that. It's in tip-top shape following a mountain top to cavern deep refurbishment, which will keep this classic attraction in tip-top shape, ready to delight guests for years. I think I know I've heard that they've added lights. So I think, That's interesting. But it says like they're going to keep adding more. Were there caverns in the original one? I cannot remember. Lindee: I feel like maybe... Laura: This concept art and like the pictures look like it's better caverns, honestly. So I'm excited to see that. Hollywood's. Lindee: Okay. Can I, I guess you can't show me. Laura: you go back to it? Where did it go? I cannot. Lindee: It's really hard to see. Laura: I know, right? Lindee: That's okay. Laura: Yeah, I know. You'll just see it in like 14 days. So ⁓ Hollywood Studios is seeing more construction for the Monsters Inc. ⁓ Let's see. Disneyland's new Millennium Falcon storyline featuring Grogu and Din Djarin officially launches May 22nd. I didn't realize that was only at Disneyland. Interesting. Lindee: just be surprised. Laura: and original trilogy characters like Luke Leia, Han Solo, and Darth Vader are now roaming Galaxy's Edge regularly. Again, just at Disneyland. Hmm. Lindee: Mm-hmm. Laura: I know, right? ⁓ There's a new Lego set. Did you see it? I know. ⁓ huh. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then some sad news. The voice actor behind the narration for Happily Ever After and the monorail, Tom Kane, has passed away. So sad. Lindee: I saw... Yes, it's so cute. That's Main Street, Disneyland, right? Yeah, it's so cute. I know. wonder if it'll sound different or if they'll... Laura: ⁓ and he was... They'll keep it for as long as they can, I would assume. Lindee: I would think so. Yeah, he did other stuff too, right? Laura: But he's been in Star Wars, The Clone Wars. He's been multiple characters, including Yoda and Admiral Eulerin. ⁓ I legit, like, I kind of cry every time happily ever after, but like, I might cry. His voice is iconic. Like, I don't know. Lindee: Yeah. Mm-hmm. I can hear it. I heard it in my head. When like when I heard that he died, I heard his voice immediately. was like, ⁓ no. Laura: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. The Disney community has been sharing clips of these lines, especially grab hold of your dreams and make them come true. Oh, heartbreaking. Sad. So, yeah, that's all the Disney news I kind of have right now. I feel like our news, Disney news is going to be kind of slow leading up until August when D23 starts. So after like, Lindee: and Mmm. Laura: We're probably going to do a big deep dive episode for that one. ⁓ And then we'll probably start seeing some more constant news after that. Lindee: There is one. Okay, so I can't remember where I saw it, but. ⁓ It was, was, ⁓ meet and greet, Mulan and Rapunzel. Laura: Yes, because of the new well the courtyard the animation cart courtyard has opened and Hollywood studios, so that's why so they were gonna start meeting so yeah Mulan and Rapunzel Which I think is gonna be I hope I don't know. I love a character meet and greet so I Would love to try and do that, but also Rapunzel's at Magic Kingdom a lot, so I wonder if that's gonna change any Lindee: Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Laura: I don't know. I do not know. Lindee: Hmm. Laura: All right, well, we watched The Last Jedi. Lindee: Yes, we did. Laura: which was released in 2017 and directed by Rian Johnson. Rian, Rian? I don't know. Lindee: Really? Because I thought it said JJ Abrams. Laura: I'm just telling you what chat put on my... ⁓ Lindee: F- Laura: put chat put on my thingy. Let me look it up. I'm Amy Poehler right now looking up facts on my laptop while we record a podcast. Lindee: you Laura: ⁓ nope. says Ryan Johnson. Why was the last Jedi so controversial? Okay. Director Ryan Johnson deliberately subverted the expectations established in The Force Awakens. Lindee: Interesting. Yeah. Laura: Okay, he introduced new lore that clashed with the franchise. I can see that. I'm not gonna lie. This one was not a ⁓ top one for me. I had a very hard time watching it in general. Lindee: Yeah, yeah. I thought it was, I mean, I thought it was very watchable, but I did think it was weird that like, like the whole arc of, you know, Luke being like grumpy and yeah, like just kind of like... Laura: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Lindee: What's going on? Like... Laura: it's like this is definitely not Luke. Like it just... Lindee: Yeah, like I laughed out loud when he like tossed the lightsaber that she brought in, that Ray had brought in. I was just like, what? Laura: Right, right. And there was like, and I don't know if I missed it completely, but I feel like there was no real backstory as to why he was the way he was. Lindee: But even when we found out why, it was like, okay. Laura: Right. It didn't, yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like there wasn't, it wasn't believable as to what he, you know, why he was upset for whatever, you know, I don't know. He just felt like he was throwing a toddler tantrum, honestly. Lindee: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Laura: couple fun facts about this one. was Carrie Fisher's final released Star Wars film. The throne room fight took weeks to choreograph. The red salt on Crait was created to visually resemble blood during battle scenes, which got me. got me. ⁓ Porgs exist... Yes. Yes, that was cool because it got like ⁓ It intrigued me. Porgs existed because... Lindee: That was I liked that visually that was really cool. Laura: Puffins were everywhere while filming on Skellig Michael. Lindee: I guess that's where they were filming. Those guys were hilarious. Laura: Yes. Yes. Lindee: legit like guilt tripped chewy into not eating one of them. Laura: Yeah, yeah. Alright. I had it give a little bit more recap in the description. So the first part of the movie, Resistance and Trouble, the movie opens immediately after the events of Star Wars The Force Awakens. They're evacuating the base. While the First Order attacks, Poe Dameron stalls General Hux with a prank call. Buying time for evacuation, Poe leads a dangerous bombing. Yes, it says holding for General Hux. Lindee: That was hilarious. Yes. Sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you. I'm just dying. Laura: ⁓ Poe leads a dangerous bombing run against a First Order dreadonaut. Dreadnaught. The Resistance destroys it, but at a massive cost, almost the entire bomber fleet is wiped up. Do you think Poe was reckless or heroic? Lindee: I think heroic. But I like Poe. Poe's one of my faves. Of the new, yeah. If I'm allowed to say that. Laura: Yeah, I didn't like... Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I do like him too. Why wouldn't you be allowed to say that? Lindee: because people hate these movies, these new ones. I feel like he's the new, he's like as close to the new Han as we're gonna get. Laura: ⁓ yeah, that's true. Yes. Yes. ⁓ Did Leia make the right call demoting him? I feel like it all worked out in the end, right? Lindee: Mm-hmm. Laura: Laura Dern's character, which I did not realize she was in these movies at all. I was like, what? Like, I don't know, the her and the poe and the lay, like, I don't know. It's just a very interesting, it made for a good story. So I don't know if she made the right call, but it made for a good story. Lindee: Right, yeah. Right. Laura: Tone of the opening humor, did it work? I think so. Lindee: I think so, yeah. Again, it didn't open with a fight scene. Well, kind of, but like not immediately, I guess, where you're like, whoa, okay, here we go. Yeah. Laura: Kinda. Right, right. Here we go again. Yeah, yeah. ⁓ okay. So Lindee: Also, you know, that wasn't in the facts. Billy Lord is, is it Carrie Fisher's granddaughter? Laura: That's Carrie Fisher's. Lindee: Cause who's Carrie Fisher's... No Carrie Fisher's daughter... They like died... Yeah. Laura: daughter, Billy Lord, Billy, Debbie Reynolds, Debbie Reynolds is Carrie Fisher's mother. So Billy Lord is Carrie Fisher's daughter. I think we've had this discussion too. She was in this movie. Yeah. Lindee: Okay, okay, okay. Carrie Fisher. Yeah, we have. Yeah. Okay. Laura: I think she was in the other one too though. Lindee: I don't remember seeing her. I guess I missed her. Okay, anyway. Laura: What I think we talked about it. I don't know. Anything else about this beginning part? Lindee: What are we calling the beginning part? That first, after they blow up the dreadnought? Nah. Laura: Well, the next section says race. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Ray finds Luke Skywalker. Ray arrives on Ac- I can't pronounce that, Ac-2, and finally hands Luke his old lightsaber, and Luke casually throws it over his shoulder. Achoo! That's funny. That's okay. Lindee: There we go. Bless you. Sorry, was low-hanging fruit. Laura: That's okay. Okay. This immediately establishes that Luke is not the hopeful hero everyone expected. He's bitter, isolated, and believes the Jedi should end. Done. ⁓ Also, Chewie was good in this first part. Rey tries to convince Luke to return and to help the resistance, but he refuses. Meanwhile, Chewbacca and R2-D2 try to emotionally manipulate him. ⁓ Lindee: Mm-hmm. That's not an understatement. So true, so true. But I was also like, wait, where did they come from? Because Laura: Yes, did they go with Ray on the, were they on the Millennium Falcon? Yeah, that's where they had to be. It took me a minute to like put that together. Lindee: Oh, I mean, I guess so. But like up until that point and we. Well, we probably just forgot because I'm sure it had them all together, yeah. Laura: We saw them get in it. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. It says R2 plays Leila's old hologram message from A New Hope and Chewy pressures him emotionally. I just thought, like that part to me was just really funny. Like, I don't know. don't, I don't, they gave. Lindee: Mm-hmm. Laura: Like, Chewie being in a costume and like, I don't know who is in the costume. I don't know how that works, but like... And he's in a costume, so I can't even say face acting. I don't know what he's doing, but his Chewy is just awesome. I don't know. It just works, Eventually, Luke agrees to give Rey lessons. First reaction to Grumpy Luke. think we kind of talked about it. And then, yeah. Lindee: Right. Just works. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you're like, I don't want to watch this. Laura: No, yeah, I was like, what is happening? And then did Luke's characterization make sense? No, we said that. Favorite, ash two, ha ha, moments. Lindee: No. Laura: You Lindee: huh. ⁓ like we talked about a little bit, but like ⁓ poor interaction with Chewie. ⁓ I thought it was really funny when ⁓ kept destroying the village and the, I don't know what they were called, but the caretakers or whoever were getting mad at her. ⁓ Laura: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Yes, yes. It says thoughts on the humor with the hair takers and the porgs is the next little thing. Yep, right, right. Yeah. ⁓ Lindee: well, there you go. Yeah, I felt like the humor, I was laughing. Laura: A lot more, yeah. Yeah, I definitely want a pork. I've seen them in the parks, like they sell little stuffies, right? And I never knew what they were, but now I'm like, yes, please. Lindee: throughout the whole movie. Even if it was like, pshh, that was dumb. ⁓ huh. I didn't know what they were. Mm-hmm. So it's like, okay, so it's supposed to be a puffin mixed with something. Laura: Right, because there were, so I'm looking at the small inquisitive flat muzzled avian native to remote ocean world of Act II in the Star Wars universe. Size, they're about 10 inches covered in dense waterproof feathers. Vision, they possess telescopic vision which helps them spot for fish. Lindee: It got me between, I mean, puffins are similar to. ⁓ Laura: Penguins. Lindee: What am I thinking of? Are they though? Laura: penguins. Lindee: I don't know. I think puffins have like longer like. I don't know if snout is the right word. Laura: Horms Puffins. Lindee: We might be going too deep on this. Laura: I know right the Porg Puffin connection. The inspiration the real life puffins often seen in the North Atlantic share squat body shape waddling walk and large eyes with their base counterparts. He took the puffin silhouette added the large expressive eyes of a pug and a seal and gave it the Porgs distinct resting sad face. Okay. That's what I was like. Yeah, I see the pug too. I get it. I get it. I get it. Lindee: Ehhhh Seal, I see seal, okay. So, porg is mostly, it sounds more like pug. Laura: Hug and puffin'. Lindee: ⁓ Yeah, but where does it? Laura: I don't know. They just came up. Lindee: If you're, if you're right, but if you're naming it, you're like, okay, yeah, it's cute. Yeah. ⁓ I, if they have, if they don't sell those and they probably do in galaxy's edge, but as like a shoulder pound, Laura: Right. Yeah, they're definitely cute. ⁓ I've seen them. I've seen them. I'm pretty sure I've seen them, yeah. Lindee: Okay, I also say if not, that's a huge miss opportunity. Laura: Right? mean, lot to me, a lot of the things are missed opportunities, but. ⁓ Lindee: Yeah. Laura: Yeah, the caretakers were funny too. that whole... I see, and I guess because of I've read the Harry Potter books, they reminded me of house elves a little bit. Yeah. Because the only house elf we meet in the movie is Dobby. But there are no, yeah, no, that's a goblin. But yeah, so they remind me of house elves. Lindee: Mm-hmm. They reminded me of like nuns. Mmm. Mm. Laura: Alright, on to our next part. ⁓ Ray's Jedi training. Luke teaches Ray about the force and the failures of the Jedi Order. One major theme, failure is the greatest teacher. Luke explains that the Jedi allowed Darth Sidious to rise and create Darth Vader. Ray is naturally powerful and immediately drawn toward the dark side cave beneath the island. She wants answers about her parents, but only sees endless reflections of herself. Luke becomes terrified after sensing Rey's raw strength and connection to Kylo Ren. Lindee: Yeah, I didn't really, I feel like they didn't really, they might ask about this, but it didn't really explain any of that ever. And I just kept waiting, like. Laura: Okay, I'm glad I wasn't the only one, because sometimes I miss things, but I also feel the same way. Yeah, no. So what they did want us to discuss is Rey's power level. I mean, obviously we knew, we knew in the last movie that Rey was powerful. so I'm not, you know, the, the mirror cave scene symbolism. Lindee: bright. See, that's what I don't understand. Laura: Going back to the Google. Mirror cave scene symbolism. Lindee: Like, why? Laura: Ray's mirror cave vision in The Last Jedi symbolizes her profound search for identity and belonging. Seeking to understand her origins, the dark side mirror reflects only an endless line of herself. It conveys a challenging truth. She must create her own path without relying on others. Okay. Lindee: Mm. Laura: Just like Luke's trial in the Degobot cave, Ray's trial forces her to confront her deepest fear, being completely alone and having no one to rely on but herself. Instead of being given a legacy by her parents, she realizes that she herself is the source of her own destiny. When Ray steeps deeper, she asks to see her parents. Two amorphous figures merge into one in subsequent interpretations and concept art. Lindee: Got it. Okay. Laura: This symbolizes her evolving relationship with and destined bond with Kylo Ren Ben Solo. So. Lindee: Okay. Laura: The director purposely left the scene open to debate, but emphasized that it operates as a deeply internal experience for Ray. So it wasn't meant to give us answers if you like. And I feel like that's partly why the director probably was controversial. ⁓ Lindee: Yeah. Yeah. Laura: Did this movie handle the Force differently than previous films? Lindee: I think so. Laura: I do, I don't know, like I feel like they made the force. It feels like in the previous movies, the force was something to be admired. And now I felt like the force was something like Luke was trying to make the force be scared. Yeah. So yeah. Lindee: Like scary. Yeah. Like avoided. Yeah. Yeah. Also they like, it was more tangible, if that makes sense at all. Like. Laura: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Lindee: It just, they like visually like her going into that really dark cave was really powerful. ⁓ And even just like Ray and Kylo Ren using the force to communicate was different than what we've seen. Laura: Yeah. Right? That's our next part. Yeah. That was our next part of the... Lindee: Mm-hmm. Laura: movie, but it was created by I was shooketh when we found out that Snoke did all that. Lindee: Okay. Laura: I did not see that coming. ⁓ So it says, at first they hate each other, but gradually they become emotionally vulnerable. Ray sees conflict in Kylo and Kylo feels understood by Ray. One of the biggest moments, Kylo tells Ray what happened with Luke. Lindee: No. Okay. Mm-hmm. Laura: Kylo's version, Luke tried to murder him in his sleep. Luke's version, Ben Solo was being corrupted by the darkness. Luke briefly considered killing him for a split second, then regretted it immediately. But Ben saw the ignited lightsaber and destroyed the temple. Lindee: Yeah, that's where Quentin was like, you mean to tell me that he, what was it? could turn his own father from the dark side, but he couldn't like basically like stop ⁓ Kylo from then whatever. Yeah. Laura: Mm-hmm. Ben, whatever his name is. I was just, that was getting so confusing for me, honestly. Lindee: from, you know, from turning or whatever. Like, yeah, he said that part for him was like really like, I mean, it goes like along with what we've been talking about. It's just like uncharacteristic for the films of Luke to do that. Laura: Yeah. Did it. Right. that's another do we did I miss it? Let me go see before I sound really dumb. Did we get do we have a Kylo Ren backstory yet? Like a full like what happened? Lindee: Maybe not like up to this point that we've seen, I there. Right. Laura: We haven't seen it, right? Like that's what I wanna make sure. Like there's no, okay. Cause that's my other thing. It's like, okay. So something had to have happened, right? For Luke to go and try and... Turn him back. Lindee: to be able to sense the darkness in him. Yeah. Laura: Right, so like where, why did Kylo Ren go that late? Like where, when did Ben Solo stop being Ben Solo, like what happened? You know? And I, maybe we do get a movie, I don't know. Lindee: Mm-hmm. Right, right. Yeah. I don't know. We'd have to, let me see. I'd have to go. What's our watch order? It says we got. Oh, well. Laura: What's up next? Lindee: ⁓ Rise of Skywalker. Laura: Would that not be? No, that's Skywalker, not Solo. Solo is in 2018. No, Solo we watch next. No, we watch Solo next because we're doing it in release order. Lindee: So low, right, but that's... right. Okay. Laura: best but is that about Han Solo? Lindee: But that's about a hawn, think, isn't it? Or maybe it's, maybe not. Laura: No, it says after you meet Han. So I think it is about Han. I don't know. Ask Quentin, I guess. I don't know. Quentin, you listen to the pod. Tell us. ⁓ Lindee: Okay. I he does, but okay. Laura: He told me he did. Lindee: Well, maybe that's because he knew we were doing Star Wars that one week. Like, I don't think he consistently listens, but... Laura: Ew. Okay, ⁓ whatever. Lame. Okay. So we kind of talked about all that. Okay. Do you think Luke failed Ben? Lindee: Yeah. Yeah, because at that point he was just scared. He was just fearful and let that take over. Laura: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Do you think this was one of Star Wars best different perspective scenes? I don't know. So it's a different perspective, right? You have Luke's perspective and you have Kylo Ren's perspective. So is asking if it's one of the best different perspective scenes. I don't know if I've seen, if I remember all the different perspective scenes. So I couldn't, I don't know if I can answer that. Lindee: Really what? Hmm. Yeah, I see what you're saying. I mean, I, I think it's, I think it's nice that we get both of the perspectives for sure. But again, it still just seems kind of like, let's put this here and try to make it work. Laura: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure. All right, so next we're moving on to Finn and Rose, who I kind of love. Finn tries escaping to protect Rey, but meets Rose Tico, a resistance mechanic. They travel to Cancelbright to find a code breaker who can help disable the first order tracking system. ⁓ Lindee: Thank you. Laura: The Canso Bright recap was a wealthy casino city, arms dealers profiting from both sides, introduction of DJ, fathier racing. Lindee: Fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah-fah Laura: I don't know. Racing sequence. Rose explains that the galaxy profits from endless war. They fail to find the original code breaker and instead trust DJ. Did the console bright subplot work? Lindee: I liked that storyline. Laura: Yeah. It was different. Rose as a new character, love her. Love her. ⁓ Themes about war profiteering. mean, like. Lindee: Mm-hmm. Laura: I don't know, was he trying to make a point? Like war is profit. Like, I just don't know why we even have to talk about it. ⁓ Lindee: Well, mean, think, I think like, yes, like, does it seem like one of those other another one of those things that was just thrown in there? Sure. But I can see what he's saying. And like, I can see, I can get like, you know, something can appear to be, you know, Laura: Yeah. Yeah. Right. Lindee: nice and clean and all that presentable on the outside but it's really like dark and dirty and Laura: Yeah. Lindee: when you get into it. Laura: It says, most skippable or underrated part. I think it's underrated. Lindee: says most skippable or underrated part like of the movie Laura: ⁓ I took it. I said I took it as is this the most skippable part or the most underrated part? Lindee: Mmm. Got it. Okay. ⁓ and you said Laura: Yeah. I know, I said underrated just because I like Rose at this point. Lindee: Yeah, I don't think I'd skip it, but I wouldn't say most underrated. was just, yeah. Laura: No. Yeah. There. ⁓ lay it. Lindee: And this part was right about when I started falling asleep, because it was late. So was like, we have how much longer of this movie? Laura: Yeah, had to turn, I had to watch, I think I actually watched it in three days, three different parts. ⁓ Yeah. yep, yep. The next is Leia's survival scene. The First Order attacks the resistant cruiser bridge. Leia is blown into space and seemingly dead, which I thought, I was like, what? Lindee: Hahaha Thank dead. Yeah. Laura: but uses the force to pull herself back to safety. Lindee: definitely something ⁓ Poppins. Okay. ⁓ Laura: I know, right? Lindee: It was... Interesting. Laura: Yeah. Lindee: I was like... because we haven't ever seen anything like that. Laura: Correct. Again, just one more thing that's like we haven't seen. Lindee: Right. Laura: in the past that, you know, like, okay, we're gonna add more to the Star Wars lore of life kind of thing. Lindee: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. But yes, I mean, I was glad she wasn't dead. Laura: Same, because I thought she was for a second. ⁓ ⁓ Carrie Fisher emotional moments. Did it look cool or distracting? Lindee: It's like a weird question. Like, why are those our only two options? I don't, I mean, again, I'm glad she wasn't dead. I don't, that's all I have to say about it. As for how she got back inside the ship, I was like, okay. Laura: I know. Mm-hmm. Right. Right. Same. A little confused. ⁓ Lindee: I did not think it looked cool. thought it was kind of... Laura: weird. Okay, cheesy. Okay, that's a good word for it. Lindee: cheesy. Yeah. But I got what she was doing and what the director was trying to do, but it didn't really land for me. Laura: Yeah, yeah. All right, so next we go to Snoke's throne room and Rey surrenders herself to Kylo Ren, believing she can turn him back to the light. Snoke humiliates Rey and reveals he's manipulated the force bond between them. Then comes one of the movie's biggest twists. Kylo ignites Luke's saber but kills Snoke instead. Lindee: That was crazy. I was like, he's gonna see it. He's gonna see it. Him eating Snoke. I was like, he can't do it. He can't pull this off. Laura: Kylo and Rey, that was. It was a good scene though. It was good. ⁓ Kylo and Rey team up against Snoke's guards in the iconic Red Room battle. Afterward, Kylo asks Rey to join him. Let the past die. Kill it if you have to. He reveals Rey's parents were nobodies who sold her for drinking money and Rey refuses him. I thought that was like... Like when he... Lindee: How does he know? Laura: Yes, that was my first question. Lindee: We need a backstory on Ben Solo because he knows something. He knows more than he's letting on. Did we get a backstory on Ray? Do we see her when she's young? Not really, no, no. Yeah, but like how does he know that? Unless he's just making something up to try to get her to, you know. Laura: Right. Right. I don't... I have no idea. Right, that was... That's what I was kind of thinking. That's what I was like, why are you telling her this? Like, why, like you want her to come to you? Like, do you think that's gonna help? I just, I don't know. I don't know. It was just, I was like, bro, no. Lindee: Mm-hmm. Well, I honestly thought because right after he killed Snoke I was like, ⁓ well like this is a good sign and then he's just like No, we're doing our own thing now. Like what? Laura: Yeah, yeah, it says, Kyle becoming supreme leader. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Ray nobody reveal reactions. Does that mean like? Lindee: We talked about it a little bit. You just said like, you know, well, didn't, did she? Yeah, she just kind of. Laura: Yeah. No bodies, yeah. I feel like there's more. feel like because if you go back to the other movie and she finds a lightsaber and she sees something, I just feel like there's more. I don't feel like he's telling the truth. But who knows? ⁓ Lindee: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Well, that's what I kept forgetting because I was so proud of myself. I remembered that Ben was Han and Leia's son. And I was like, wait, so Luke is his uncle? And Nick was like, yeah. And I was like, yes. ⁓ Because this whole time we've been watching these movies, the hardest thing for me to remember is like, who's connected where? And like, Laura: Right. Yeah. Lindee: Who's related? But that's why I think Nick says there's no, there's no relation. Like Rey is not related to anyone. She just happens to have the force, which I think, I think so, which is like that. mean, not all of the Jedis were related, right? It just, you know, Laura: And he's watched all the movies, so he knows. Okay, okay. I just don't... Correct, correct. Lindee: So that makes sense, but I don't know. Like you said, I think there's more there and I just want to figure it out. Yes. Laura: And if there's not, that's a total horrible storytelling. Like to just have her be a nobody is to me horrible storytelling. But what do I know? As a published author. ⁓ Lindee: But then maybe it's that like, maybe it's the like, you you're rooting for the underdog. Like, I don't know. She's really had to like build herself up kind of thing, do it herself. Laura: I guess... I guess... I guess... Hmm. Lindee: self-made lemon? I don't know. Laura: I don't know either. All right. The Holdo maneuver. Vice Admiral Holdo sacrifices herself by jumping to light speed through Snoke's flagship. The silent explosion destroys much of the First Order fleet and one of the most visually stunning moments in all of Star Wars. Lindee: I yeah, I think I'd agree with that. It was pretty cool. Laura: Yeah. Yeah. Did Holdo communicate poorly with Po? Lindee: Yeah. Yeah. I think, but I think if she would have said, like, if she would have told him the whole plan, he wouldn't have let her gone through with it. So. Laura: Yeah. Correct, correct. Like I think it was a purposefully, it was, you know, a mission, you know, to purposefully do that. Okay, so this is a nerd question. I don't think either of us are gonna answer. Should the hyperspace RAM have been possible? Lindee: Mm-hmm. She knew what she was doing the whole time. meaning like hitting the... Laura: Yeah, so I guess there's probably debate. Right, so I guess there's probably debate in the Star Wars community of whether or not they should have been able to even do this, like in past movies, if I had to take a guess. So. Lindee: hitting the first order that hard or that fast. Okay. Okay, well we know, we know light speed, typically they just kind of disappear. Laura: Mm-hmm. Lindee: But maybe the controversy is that she didn't do that right away. I really don't know. Laura: That's what I can't answer that question. That is not for me to. Lindee: Yeah. Well, but it would kind of... And because there's so much around it and around this movie, I would think maybe it shouldn't have been. If the director was like trying to... Laura: Yeah. It shouldn't have been right. Maybe that's what the thing was. Do more. Lindee: add all this new stuff, yeah. Laura: Yeah. ⁓ all right. I think we're getting to our final battle. ⁓ battle of Crait. The remaining resistant members flee to an old rebel base on Crait. The First Order attacks with giant walkers and a massive battering cannon, which are those aren't those walkers that AT-ATs or the Ada at whatever those are called. And we see them in the rise of the resistance. Right. Lindee: I think so. They look like the same thing. Laura: Okay, the first order, right, and I think those are called AT-ATs. So I don't know why Chad didn't put that. ⁓ First, Finn attempts a suicide run to destroy the cannon, but Rose crashes into him to save him. That's how we're gonna win, not fighting what we hate, saving what we love. Lindee: Yes. Laura: Cute. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker, I cannot talk. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker arrives alone to face the First Order. Luke versus Kylo Ren. Luke walks out onto the battlefield and confronts Kylo. Kylo completely loses control and orders every weapon fired at Luke. But during their duel, Kylo realizes Luke really isn't there. I didn't know. Yeah, I was like, what? I really thought so like that was one of my favorite scenes when Kylo takes the lightsaber and he slashes through Luke and then it just the camera pans straight to Kylo and like he's on the the red the sand thingy that we talked about earlier and I was like was that his blood and then it wasn't that I like that was like I was like to me that was that was one that got one that one got me. ⁓ Lindee: Uh-huh. Laura: Luke is force projecting himself across the galaxy from Act 2. This distraction allows the Resistance to escape. The effort kills Luke, who peacefully becomes one with the Force while watching the twin suns. Lindee: think it's it. Laura: Luke's final stand. Lindee: I I thought that was pretty cool. I think he ultimately did, you know. Laura: Yeah. Yeah. Lindee: what he should have been doing, yeah. Cause that was his, that was his way of saying like, so believes in the force and everything they're fighting for ultimately. Yeah. I, I still want it like, okay. Yeah. I mean, if somebody tried to kill me, I guess I'd be pretty mad, but like Kylo Ren is like, Laura: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, right. Right, right, right. Lindee: relentless like and it's been so many years Laura: Why? That's, we need a story. We need, we need his backstory. I'm Googling it. Lindee: Mm-hmm. I just, I don't know. Laura: I'm Googling it. Lindee: I need to know more about that dynamic. I don't get it. really don't. that's one sense call back. I don't understand that. I know we should, but I don't. Laura: No, there's currently no standalone Kylo Ren or Ben Solo prequel movie in development. Lindee: I'm there was a... Laura: So, but while Adam Driver and director Steven Soderbergh actually spent two years developing a pitch for the film called The Hunt for Ben Solo, it was ultimately rejected. Lindee: Hmm. Laura: They are choosing to explore his backstory and timeline through comics. Lindee: ⁓ Gross. Do a series at least, dang. That's probably more expensive than a movie. Laura: Right? Lindee: Well, darn it. Okay. We'll just have to use our imaginations in the meantime. Laura: Dang it! That's like actually upsetting. Lindee: Yeah. Well, I think true Star Wars fans would have just like scrapped this movie from the whole thing pretty easily. like, pro- like would they care if there was a movie about Ben Solo's- Laura: Right. Right. Lindee: you know, background. I don't know. Would they still watch it? Probably. It's just like we complain about remakes, but we still watch them. Or sometimes we do. I know, but sometimes, sometimes. Laura: Correct. Correct. most of the remake. I was gonna say I like most of the remakes. Okay. The ending scene. ⁓ the discretion point, sorry. ⁓ Lindee: the next point. Okay. No, that's fine. Laura: We said Luke was redeemed, the twin sons call back to Star Wars, and the emotional impact of his death. Lindee: Yeah. mean. was like, aw. Laura: See this? Lindee: he went out swinging. ⁓ Laura: I don't know, ending, right. So the ending scene ends with the stable children on Canto Bright retelling the legend of Luke Skywalker. And a little boy uses the force to grab a broom showing that hope and the force belong to everybody. The ending scene to me felt final. Like it didn't feel like we have one more movie in this trilogy to watch. Like, so I'm interested to see. Lindee: Mmm. Laura: What? Lindee: Well, it is more of a prequel, right? Laura: It says The Rise of Skywalker. So the next movie we watch is Solo, about Han Solo. But then the next movie in the trilogy is The Rise of Skywalker. Lindee: Right, but the. Mm-hmm. Laura: I don't Lindee: And which Skywalker is that? Are we assuming? Laura: There's only one, right? Lindee: No. Anakin. Luke. Laura: No? ⁓ yeah, I forgot about him. I think it's about Luke, is it not? Lindee: Hang on, we already watch one about Anakin? Laura: Mm-hmm. Lindee: We watched the Laura: It follows Rey, Finn, and Poe as they lead the remnants of the resistance in the final stand against Kylo Ren in the First Order. Lindee: Wait, what? Laura: That's what it does. Lindee: Why is it called the Rise of Skyloft? Laura: guess we'll find out when we watch it. Lindee: Fair enough. Laura: I don't know. I'm looking up Google. I'm on Google and I don't, because is Ray not the Skywalkers? Like that's just me. That's just me. But Nick told you she's a nobody. like. Lindee: you Ohhhh Maybe he doesn't know. I don't know. But all the skywalkers are dead. So yeah, I mean it's right unless...yeah. Laura: That part. Leia isn't. Dead. Lindee: But how would she be? Laura: Right? No, she lived. Lindee: True. True. True. Yeah, I don't know. Laura: I don't want to look too much into it. I want to be surprised. But my assumption, my assumption is that Rey is a Skywalker. Whether she's Kylo Ren's twin, which we could mirror that from, you know, Luke and Leia, or she's Luke's daughter. Those are my two. Lindee: but to me, just going by the name. Yeah. Okay. Laura: ⁓ those are my two. Lindee: Okay. ⁓ sorry, that's probably about... It just, to me, implied the name itself implies prequel. Laura: It's okay. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Nope, it's episode nine. Lindee: or like rise of, beginning of, right? Laura: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that'll be a fun one to watch. ⁓ Lindee: Okay. Laura: But we got two more movies, so we have to watch solo first, then that one. Yeah. Yup, yup, yup. Okay, so these are some weird questions, Chad. ⁓ Is The Last Jedi secretly one of the best Star Wars movies? No. Lindee: No. Laura: Did it hurt the sequel trilogy overall? Lindee: Well, do we know that yet? Yeah. Laura: I don't know, we haven't watched the third one yet. So yeah. Should Rey have joined Kylo? No? Lindee: No. Laura: was killing Snoke too early. Lindee: What the heck are these questions? Laura: what I'm saying, I told you. And best or worst betrayal of Luke? Obviously the worst. ⁓ Lindee: I don't know, he kind of like grew into his face a little bit though. Laura: He did, but I like it. I don't know. I still think we could have gotten there with a not so grumpy Luke. Like, you know, he could have still kept his same character. Yeah. Lindee: No, yes. I'm talking physically, but yes. He, no, definitely worst like version of himself until the very end. Laura: Yeah, yeah. Right. Right. Lindee: I wonder how Mark Hamill felt playing that version of Luke. Laura: When I was looking it up earlier, I don't think he liked it. Lindee: Yeah, I will miss post. Laura: Yeah. Lindee: Okay, that was a good outline. I liked that one. It was... Laura: All right, well. I I have to make sure I ask for it. Why don't we do the Marvel ones too? I said a detailed recap. said, give us an outline with a detailed recap. So yeah. Lindee: Yeah, it was helpful. I remember more when we were based on the points. And it's easier to then go into detail from that. ⁓ Laura: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. For sure. sure. Lindee: saying porgs out of 10, what would you rate it? How many porgs? Laura: I really liked the first one in this trilogy. I don't know. I don't want to give it. I don't know. Maybe like a six. Right. A six or seven. Okay. ⁓ okay. All right, Wendy. Yeah. Yeah. Porgs. Those were cute. Those get a point on their own. Yeah. Lindee: We haven't seen them. Yeah, I was going to go five. Ha Maybe five and half. I really want to pour Also, okay, the blue milk. Laura: Mm-hmm. Lindee: green but I guess it's blue is that where the stuff comes from in the they sell that in galaxy's edge Laura: Yeah, they sell blue milk and green milk and now they sell pink milk. Lindee: Okay, why? Laura: I don't know, because that's what they drink in the Star Wars universe. Lindee: Well, when he milked that thing, that's what, that's what I, it was legit, wasn't it green? Laura: Yeah. Lindee: What the heck is that thing? That's disgusting. Laura: It's their version of a cow, I guess? I don't know. Lindee: I guess. Like, why does it have to be green? But anyway, yeah, I think. Laura: because it's normal for them. They might think our white milk is weird. Lindee: I guess. Laura: Let's be honest. do like, did you watch with the captions on? Lindee: Yes. Laura: when the kids were talking it was like alien speak and i was like everybody's an alien what do mean alien speak i'm like what it like what ⁓ Lindee: That's funny. Yes, we did have them on because I was hoping it would tell me what those weird creatures were. And I don't think it even told me. Laura: Ha ha ha ha! Lindee: No, it did say Porg at some point. Laura: But I think they said the word porg. I think they called it a porg. So I think that's why. I don't. Lindee: yeah yeah but it didn't it didn't ever say the names like it didn't say like luke milking a whatever so i was like what Laura: Green cow, yeah, I don't know. I bet we can look it up. Hold on, let me, I'm finishing. Lindee: I mean, everything has a name, right? Like they're not just gonna... Laura: Right. Where does green milk come from? Where does green milk... Nope, come from in Star Wars. It's the first one. Okay, those are called... Green milk comes from female phallocyrins, also known as sea cows, which are large, docile, seal-like marine mammals native to the oceanic planet Act II. Lindee: You might want to be a little more specific. ⁓ ⁓ my gosh, they literally gave them a whole backstory, but we don't have anything else on freaking Ben Solo. Laura: hahahaha Okay, so why is blue milk? Okay, hold on. Blue. Lindee: What is this? Hahaha I feel like Blue Milk is the more popular one in Galaxy's Edge. Maybe I'm wrong. Laura: Those are called female banthas. Lindee: Thank ⁓ Laura: So those are from Tatooine. Yeah. Lindee: Okay. Now that that those I'm familiar with. Laura: Yeah, and that's why Blue Milk is probably more because it's from the original trilogy. Yeah. Okay. So... Lindee: Okay. that did keep some stuff from the original. Laura: Yeah Lindee: Okay. Laura: The real life beverage is a frozen plant based blend of coconut and rice milks with zippy citrus and tropical flavors. I'm not drinking it. Lindee: No, that does not sound good. I'm sorry. Laura: All right, well, that was a fun one. Lindee: But the more I watch these, like the more I'm like, I'm talking about this too, but well, yes, but like, I'm like, ⁓ I know what that I know what part that is in the right. I just nerd out a little bit. But yeah, that one was, that one was, I mean, that was watchable. Don't get me wrong, but I might've read it too low, but it just, there were so many parts that just didn't really. Laura: Excited to go. Yeah, Yeah, definitely. Lindee: and that's very well. Laura: Yeah. Yeah. And also Rose, like as much as I do like her, she was just kind of thrown in there. Like, did we really need a new character kind of thing? You know, so. Lindee: Mm-hmm, but she's like definitely here to stay right like the synopsis you read of the next movie Laura: It didn't say Rose, said Poe, what's his name, Finn and Rey. So not sure. But we shall see. All right. Lindee: Poston and Ray. ⁓ okay. Well. Peace. I know.
