- 0:17Welcome to Rise and Thrive with Doctor J Nicole.
- 0:21Today we're going to be talking with a wonderful guest.
- 0:24Her name is Taimel Katzen. She's a fellow social worker and
- 0:29she is a board approved licensed clinical social worker.
- 0:33To be exactly going to put some respect on that.
- 0:36She's currently serving as a program manager for CFSA, which
- 0:40is Child and Family Services agency.
- 0:42She earned her bachelor's degree and master's degree in social
- 0:45work from Temple University and Catholic University of America,
- 0:50respectively. In the last 12 years, her
- 0:53professional experience has included serving families in the
- 0:56child welfare system and with significant mental health
- 1:00disorders and hospital and community outpatient setting.
- 1:03As her passion continues to grow and serving children and
- 1:07families, she founded Grit and Grace Wellness LF, which aims at
- 1:12providing services and supporting individuals
- 1:15emotional, mental, spiritual and financial health.
- 1:19Thank you so much for being here today.
- 1:22Thank. You for having me, thank you so
- 1:25much. And I'm always happy to have
- 1:27another social worker in the room with me.
- 1:29And I think it is a duty to speak up for social work so that
- 1:33people understand, like while you do work with children and
- 1:36families, we're not just the people that come and take your
- 1:39kids. You know, that is a common
- 1:42misconception. I.
- 1:43Think that is one of the biggest annoyances about social work is
- 1:48that most people don't know what social workers do.
- 1:51And they think that most social workers take kids away, which I
- 1:56really wish that could be a different reframe too, because
- 1:59you know, most social workers don't take kids away.
- 2:02And then also, if your child is not safe because they have been
- 2:07physically abused, sexually abused, or neglected, why can't
- 2:11we reframe that to making the child safe and social workers
- 2:15coming in to provide that level of safety and comfort?
- 2:19Love that. And Speaking of, tell us a
- 2:21little bit about what you do in your role.
- 2:24So I am a program manager. I work in in DC child and Family
- 2:28Services agencies, foster care and adoption unit.
- 2:31So I manage a program for out of home use as well as youth that
- 2:37are in the process of becoming adopted.
- 2:39So these are children that have already been separated from
- 2:43their families. And our goal is to try to get
- 2:45them back with their, their their family, whether it's their
- 2:49their parent or another caregiver, the reunification,
- 2:53guardianship or adoption when that's possible.
- 2:56So I will receive those programs.
- 2:59Yes, thank you so much for that work that you do in helping get
- 3:03families together, reunite families.
- 3:06That's so very important and help people even establish
- 3:09family and get to experience family because sometimes
- 3:12different circumstances don't allow for us to have our
- 3:15traditional family experience. So so thank you.
- 3:18Thank you for that. Thank you so much.
- 3:20Yeah. So today we're going to be
- 3:23talking about when the waiting season feels like forever yes,
- 3:30this is one of the hardest parts of faith.
- 3:31Like let's not let's let's keep it real right?
- 3:33Like waiting is one of the hardest parts about it yes.
- 3:38So whether we're waiting for a breakthrough relationship,
- 3:42healing, or clarity on your purpose, the in between season
- 3:46can feel endless. So just because you don't see
- 3:50the movement, it doesn't mean that God isn't working.
- 3:53In this episode, we're going to explore how to navigate the
- 3:56waiting season without losing faith and why waiting is often
- 4:00preparation and refinement for greater things and how to shift
- 4:04from frustration to trusting God.
- 4:07All right, well, let's get into it, sis.
- 4:10Let's. Get into it.
- 4:12Why do you think God makes us wait?
- 4:15Oh, I think some of it is what you already said, right?
- 4:18It's it's building. It's building character,
- 4:21character development, but also just preparing us for something
- 4:25greater than what we can see. And I think a lot of times when
- 4:29we're in those moments of waiting, I know for me, I feel
- 4:33like I'm being hidden. And it reminds me, it reminds me
- 4:37of a book that I received and that I tried to read every
- 4:41couple of years and I in the process of rereading it now
- 4:45called Anonymous. And the book is about Jesus's
- 4:48hidden years and yours and how a lot of times people focus on,
- 4:54you know, Jesus's birth and then Jesus's death and resurrection.
- 4:59But there was almost 2 decades in between of him being hidden.
- 5:04And just because it's hidden, does it mean that it's not
- 5:07important? Does it mean that it doesn't
- 5:09mean anything? And I think when we look at
- 5:13ourselves, can we compare ourselves to Christ in that way,
- 5:17right? Like just because we are in a
- 5:20season of waiting or we're in a season of being hidden, does
- 5:24that mean that we're less important or our life isn't
- 5:27important? You know, I think that every,
- 5:31every part of our life should be like the main course, right?
- 5:35Like it shouldn't just be. It's like, OK, you know?
- 5:41I can let you go past that bar. She's every part of our life
- 5:47should be the main course Now that's a refrain for the for the
- 5:51ages. Listen, every day is a main
- 5:53course here for it. Yeah, I mean, because I, I think
- 5:58that, you know, when you're waiting, you don't think that
- 6:00it's, it's, it's great or it's, it's, it's the, your, your
- 6:05thinking it's the small piece or you're thinking it's the
- 6:08insignificant part. And it's like, no, no part of
- 6:10your life is insignificant, right?
- 6:12Like every part is the main part.
- 6:15Yeah, and I heard somebody say recently she heard this at
- 6:18church. When you're in a waiting season,
- 6:22do what waiters do, serve. That was so good.
- 6:27And I was like, you know what? It's bars just coming from
- 6:30everywhere and it's very easy to digest.
- 6:36Excuse me. Thank you for sharing this book,
- 6:38Anonymous. And I think it's no mistake that
- 6:40we're recording today and it is the day before Resurrection Day.
- 6:44Yes, sharing that. And I love the timing.
- 6:47Even though this will air later, we still know that the Spirit is
- 6:50right now in this room. Absolutely.
- 6:53And I got a soul ahead of myself.
- 6:55I forgot to even for us to pray before we got started.
- 6:59So I would like to pause and do a quick prayer.
- 7:02Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you today.
- 7:05Lord, we thank you for bringing timel here, Lord, to talk about
- 7:08you and the things that you're doing in her life and things
- 7:11that she's observed. Lord, we are here to give you
- 7:13glory. Father, we ask that you shrink
- 7:16us and amplify yourself, Lord, and allow the Holy Spirit to
- 7:19guide this conversation, Lord, and that it touched in the the
- 7:23hearts and minds and ears of those that you are calling home
- 7:27to you, Lord. So thank you for allowing us to
- 7:29be best and we just we thank you for fellowship, sister ship
- 7:34connection and being able to do so in your name, in Jesus name
- 7:37we pray in. Jesus name Amen.
- 7:40Thank you for that. Perfect.
- 7:42Prayer. Well, I got hype.
- 7:43I'd be and I'm like, no, we got to go back.
- 7:47We got to slow it down with waiting.
- 7:50I love, love what you said about being hidden right.
- 7:53Like that is such a thing and a lot of people don't understand
- 7:57that because we are not meant for everyone and everything.
- 8:01And in a society that says, right now, look at me, we think
- 8:05we're ready. You know, it's really hard to
- 8:08reframe that in a positive way and to know that you're not
- 8:11being punished, you're not being overlooked.
- 8:14Is that you? Just like, you gotta let God
- 8:16cook. He's still.
- 8:17And that's sometimes you don't even recognize it yourself,
- 8:19right? Like, like I said, I was going
- 8:21through the motions and then I just, I got this book and I'm
- 8:24reading it and I'm like, OK, I never even thought of it this
- 8:27way. Like my my in years is something
- 8:29to be to brag about or it's it's a main course.
- 8:33It's something to to feel greatness about.
- 8:37So I think sometimes, excuse me, you just you don't realize it
- 8:41yourself. Sometimes you have to have other
- 8:42people or other influences and say no, no, no, like this is
- 8:47this is greatness where you are like your whole life means
- 8:50something. Not just the parts that people
- 8:52can see, or the parts that you know you think should be
- 8:56glorified, but like some of those hidden times too.
- 9:00Absolutely. And sometimes when we like, want
- 9:03platform and purpose without preparation, it could be more of
- 9:06a burden than the blessing to you and all of the folks that
- 9:11it's for. Because, you know, purpose is
- 9:13not just for us. Yes.
- 9:15Yeah, yeah. So tell me what you think the
- 9:19difference and you're getting to this, but I want to hear a
- 9:21little more about it. The difference between not yet,
- 9:24not right now and I think no. Is just know like finality, I
- 9:30think not yet is this God in motion.
- 9:34And you know, like my family says sometimes like behind the
- 9:36scenes, you know, like you know, when there's something going on
- 9:40and it's like, well, why didn't show up?
- 9:41But why does behind the scenes is some stuff you all knows is
- 9:45that's going on as you know, that's happening behind the
- 9:47scenes. And I think that's what God does
- 9:49too, especially for the not yet. It's like, OK, we're waiting.
- 9:53God is saying yes, but not yet. I'm working out some stuff, I'm
- 9:58doing some stuff. You have to prepare some stuff.
- 10:00You have to build your character.
- 10:02You have to build, you know, your resistance or your
- 10:05resilience. And sometimes it's, we get in
- 10:08our own way. And when we're, when we're just
- 10:12trying to like make things happen faster than it should,
- 10:16when God is like, I'm saying, yes, but I'm saying not yet, not
- 10:19yet, Just wait, you're not ready.
- 10:21And I, I read something recently that said we don't have enough
- 10:24character resilience. We don't have enough anything to
- 10:28walk through doors that we opened ourselves and so we have
- 10:32to wait. We have to wait.
- 10:35Yeah, so I'm hearing timing right.
- 10:37God's perfect timing and trusting his timing.
- 10:41Excuse me, it's also God. Don't need our help opening
- 10:45doors and we really, we really do just need to sit back and let
- 10:50him do his thing. And it's so hard, especially
- 10:53when we feel like we're so close.
- 10:54But we also have to understand with all of our might, that does
- 10:58not even compare to God's little at all.
- 11:01It does not. And so thank you for affirming
- 11:05that right. And reframing that like, you
- 11:07know, sometimes we do need to be behind the scenes and that that
- 11:10that preparation is essential. Yeah, and I and I think too,
- 11:14when we when we do kind of try to help out God, we end up
- 11:19making a mess. Like when I think about like
- 11:22Sarah from the Bible, right. And it's like, oh, alright,
- 11:27Sarah, you, you old woman, you're trying to have a baby.
- 11:31God told you that's what that's what he promised.
- 11:35Not yet he that's what he promised though.
- 11:37You know, that's what he said. But you're like, alright, well,
- 11:39I'm just going to help out guys open.
- 11:40Just have my, my maid servant give my maid servant to my
- 11:44husband. Well, you helping out without
- 11:46God didn't turn out the way that you thought it would.
- 11:50And so it really was a disaster. I mean, it had resentment, their
- 11:54bitterness. And then it just ended up
- 11:56causing a lot more chaos than what she anticipated because she
- 12:00wanted to help out God and was like, well, this is what God
- 12:03wanted and that's not what he wanted.
- 12:05And I think it goes back to what I was saying, that she did not
- 12:08have enough of whatever was needed for her to open that door
- 12:12on her own. She had to wait on God.
- 12:15There's so much in that story with Sarah and Abraham because 1
- 12:21you know, she wasn't really helping God.
- 12:23That was for her, that was for what she needed, right?
- 12:26But like we, we are calling her that for the sake of how we're
- 12:28framing it, right? So she wanted what she wanted,
- 12:31and she thought she wanted it then and that she could do it,
- 12:34and that God wasn't going to deliver.
- 12:37But then also, when we try to rush, we do indeed make a mess.
- 12:42And even though we make those messes, God still keeps his
- 12:45promises. He still kept his promise.
- 12:49Yeah, they got their baby boy. Yeah.
- 12:54Something earlier that you said that I almost forgot about is
- 12:58letting go of resistance. Talk about why that letting go
- 13:03of resistance is so important in the waiting season.
- 13:08Oh, I think it's important because it's not going to, it's
- 13:15nothing good is going to come of it if you just keep it in right.
- 13:18You know, letting go of resistance, letting go of just
- 13:22anything that's going to be in the way of you pursuing what God
- 13:26has for you. Like if you're holding on to
- 13:28things, whether it's that, whether it's resentment, whether
- 13:31it's bitterness, it's only going to be a setup for your own
- 13:35negative downfall, right? So I think you have to.
- 13:39You have to. Yeah, it's essential, right?
- 13:42To really and truly let him do his work.
- 13:46OK, so like we said, the waiting season can be challenging,
- 13:51right? So how do we handle
- 13:53disappointment when it seems that our prayers are unanswered?
- 14:00Well, first I think people need to know how they hear from God.
- 14:03That's number one. Because sometimes you don't, or
- 14:09you hear, you think you heard that God said one thing and you
- 14:13really did not hear him say that.
- 14:14Because you don't even know how God speaks to you.
- 14:16You don't know if God speaks to you using his voice.
- 14:19You don't know if God speaks to you through other people.
- 14:21You don't know if God speaks to you through dreams.
- 14:23So that's one thing. And then two, you might have too
- 14:27many distractions in your life to even actually hear a word
- 14:29from God. You know, like you're consumed
- 14:32with the TV, you're consumed with social media, you're
- 14:34consumed with vices, whatever the case may be.
- 14:37And so you think you heard God say one thing, you think you
- 14:42heard a confirmation from someone, but really it wasn't
- 14:47God. And so you have all that.
- 14:48You're holding on to all of these disappointments because
- 14:52you think that God said this, God said that when it's like,
- 14:55well, no, that's not even according to his word, you know,
- 14:59So I think, I think sometimes we have to really, we have to know
- 15:04how God speaks to us to know that if God is really saying
- 15:07that or if God really said no, or if he said really said yes,
- 15:10if he really said not yet, what does he actually say?
- 15:13And is it according to his word, which we know is truth and it's
- 15:17not going to lie and. It's not confusion.
- 15:20Right, exactly. So I think that dealing with
- 15:24disappointment first has to, there has to be a, a way for
- 15:28people to know how they hear from God, to know like if God is
- 15:32really saying that. So I think that's the first
- 15:35thing. Yes.
- 15:37And who's the biggest thing? That's so, so good.
- 15:41I'm hearing so much accountability that's in there,
- 15:43right? Like that.
- 15:44We really need to examine ourselves.
- 15:46We really need to check ourselves.
- 15:47So number one, you're like, do you even know how he
- 15:49communicates with you? Like what is the voice of God?
- 15:52Have you even heard it? Or has he been trying to reach
- 15:55you and you've not been paying attention, listening, watching,
- 15:59like all of those things? Because you're absolutely right.
- 16:02Like he communicates in so many different ways.
- 16:05I know even with me, he's come through my screen.
- 16:09I've heard him audibly. I felt the wind blow.
- 16:12Like it's just. But if when you really tap in,
- 16:17it's all around you. He's always communicating with
- 16:21us. And it's not always the big
- 16:23grand, like burning Bush or the voice coming out of the clouds,
- 16:28right, like in the Bible. Like, sometimes it's the subtle
- 16:32things, like how the ram appeared when they were going
- 16:35up, you know, up the mountain to sacrifice.
- 16:38Or at least that's what he thought he was doing.
- 16:40Yeah. So I love that.
- 16:43Yeah. And I think sometimes, too, it's
- 16:45communication that you're not always thinking of in that
- 16:49moment. Like you might be thinking, when
- 16:50I hear from God, I'm going to be hearing this.
- 16:52And it's like God might not say that in that moment.
- 16:55He might be talking about something else.
- 16:56He might be trying to get you to leave your house because there's
- 16:58a fire about to happen or, you know, warning you about
- 17:02something. Or just maybe he just wants to
- 17:05talk to you because he just wants you to be his friend, you
- 17:09know? And I think sometimes too, like
- 17:10we get so caught up. I know I speak for myself too.
- 17:14I'm like, I don't know if I want to hear God's voice.
- 17:16I don't know. I don't know if I'm going to
- 17:17hear him speak to me because I feel like he might tell me
- 17:19something I don't want to do. And I'm like, I'm already doing
- 17:22things I don't want to do God, I don't want to have to do
- 17:24something else. And then you hear, you hear a
- 17:27word or you hear confirmation or you hear his voice and you're
- 17:30like, oh, like I totally misjudged that.
- 17:32That's not even what that was about.
- 17:35And I think I'm always, you know, challenging myself that it
- 17:39doesn't have to look the way that I'm, I think it looks.
- 17:43Yeah, so you're essentially describing letting go of the
- 17:45how. And it also makes me think about
- 17:48when Jesus came in on the donkey, right.
- 17:50They said that it had been written that the king was going
- 17:53to come and he was riding on the donkey, and everybody was
- 17:56expecting this great warrior and all these things, and no, come
- 18:00on a donkey. Not a horse, a donkey.
- 18:04And people had a hard time with that.
- 18:07Yeah. Yep, Yep.
- 18:10OK, so now let's get into this because I think this, excuse me,
- 18:15allergies are trying to win today.
- 18:17I know this. They've been horrible lately.
- 18:19And you know, that's what comes with springtime.
- 18:20So I'm gonna be thankful because I asked her this.
- 18:24They just go back to the things you know, being grateful for
- 18:26what you asked for. Yes, minutes to kick in.
- 18:31So let's talk about this issue of comparison.
- 18:35This is something that a lot of people deal with it.
- 18:38For some people, it plagues them, right?
- 18:41Just like comparison and watching others get what you've
- 18:46been praying for, like what can you give to our audience to
- 18:50really help them process that or even share your experiences with
- 18:54them? I mean, I think what someone has
- 18:58shared with me years ago, I would say today comparison is a
- 19:02thief of joy. That has been proven to be the
- 19:06case in my life over and over and over again.
- 19:10I feel like when you have that, when you have the ability to let
- 19:14go of comparing yourself to other people, other
- 19:18relationships, other situations, financial situations, whatever
- 19:23the case is, it is so much freedom in that it's like you
- 19:28can just live a life of just in content with who you are and
- 19:33what you have. And I think there's so much just
- 19:38bitterness and jealousy in comparing your life to someone
- 19:43else's. And I think ultimately too, you
- 19:46know, people only see one side of things, whether whether the
- 19:51glory of all of that and they don't see the hard work that
- 19:54went into getting what someone else has or the other side is
- 19:59you could be comparing yourself to a situation or someone else
- 20:02and it's not really what is portrayed.
- 20:05You know, whether it's marriages or or kids, you know, obviously
- 20:10those are always blessings. But you know, sometimes people
- 20:14can just be really having such a hard time in both of those
- 20:17situations and you never know what.
- 20:21What really you're, you're being jealous of or you're coveting
- 20:25because you're only focused on what they have over there and
- 20:27what I don't have, you know, or they have all this money, but
- 20:31they didn't see what they did to get to it or what work they had
- 20:35to, to put into making their business a success.
- 20:39They just see the end result and think, OK, well, you know, if
- 20:42they got it, why can't I have it or I need to have this?
- 20:44And it's like, no, but I, I have found that it's so much peace
- 20:48when you have let go of just just being content with what you
- 20:52have and who you are. Yeah, and I'll add to that
- 20:55gratitude, right, because comparison is focusing on lack.
- 20:59That's a lack mindset and what you don't have.
- 21:01And there's so much more to be grateful for.
- 21:05And when you operate in gratitude that calls more into
- 21:08you, that's putting that energy out.
- 21:09And I think that's also a signal to God of your maturity too,
- 21:13right, That I into and and that is not not just about the
- 21:16material, right, because that is a lot of what happens with
- 21:19comparison is the material. And there are some people they
- 21:24doing some strange things to get you.
- 21:26Not saying what was that from strange, but some strange people
- 21:31are doing things that you will probably never to get it.
- 21:36And it's just all a matter of time.
- 21:39And so it's just really, really important to have gratitude and
- 21:43that that joy like comparison is indeed the thief of joy.
- 21:47And I love what you said there about gratitude because I think
- 21:50that is so important. I think people often don't,
- 21:55they're not appreciative of what they have.
- 21:58They're not just the small things that really are not
- 22:00small, like the the literal fact that we woke up this morning,
- 22:04right? Huge.
- 22:05And so many people didn't, you know, like that is a reason to
- 22:09be thankful. That's a reason to thank God.
- 22:11The fact that we're in this situation.
- 22:14I can hear you, I can see you. You know, I have all my
- 22:16faculties. That is a blessing.
- 22:19I I could be great. I could be grateful for just
- 22:21that. I don't necessarily have to
- 22:24you're when you're content, when you're content with what you
- 22:27have, you don't have to be, you don't have to covet someone else
- 22:30that they have more. Well, I'm like, I have what I
- 22:32need. My bills are paid.
- 22:34I have a a job. Thank God in this climate, you
- 22:36know, I have opportunities. And I think that when you focus
- 22:41on just being grateful for what you have, it just really changes
- 22:45your perspective. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 22:50Alright, so another hot button issue, temptation and you know,
- 23:00being tempted to force outcomes instead of trusting God timing
- 23:05and like that temptation can look like a lot of things
- 23:07depending on what you're praying and waiting on.
- 23:09So how do you avoid that? I hate it.
- 23:14I'm just joking. I think you just really
- 23:20temptation is it's always going to be there.
- 23:22I think that you really have to be intentional about striving to
- 23:27live a life like Christ. Do I get it right all the time?
- 23:30No. Do I strive all the time?
- 23:33Yes. And I think to not really
- 23:35listening to people that make you feel bad about not doing
- 23:40something that is sinful or that is going to be contrary to your
- 23:44destiny, right, trying to pull you into sin or making you feel
- 23:48bad about, you know, not participating in certain things.
- 23:52I live my life in a way where I really strive for holiness.
- 23:56And you know what I what I have also taken I, I, I guess I, I've
- 24:02taken the school of thought is that holiness is my pleasure and
- 24:06I am going to it. It's it's, it's, it's a desire
- 24:10for me. It's I'm, I'm pleasured by the
- 24:12fact that I am striving for holiness.
- 24:14It's a ask. Can you find pleasure in
- 24:17holiness? And you went there.
- 24:19Love it. Yes, yes, I, I want to, I want
- 24:23to, I want to be like Christ. It's not, it's not like, oh,
- 24:27well, you can't do this or you can't.
- 24:29You know, you, you know, you're, you don't drink and you don't do
- 24:32this and you don't whatever the case is like, OK, that's fine
- 24:37because holiness is my pleasure. But I want to do these things.
- 24:42I want to strive for holiness. I want to strive to be a good
- 24:45person. I want to be a compassionate
- 24:47person. It's my pleasure, you know, and
- 24:50I think, I think when you really have that perspective, it
- 24:54changes your, your desire to just really seek temptation.
- 25:03You know it it it helps you to not really fall in the traps of
- 25:07temptation. Yeah, yeah, That's so good, So
- 25:12good. There's so much goodness in
- 25:14there. And I was like, there are things
- 25:15I wanted to say, but I just got wrapped up like you.
- 25:18You gave me other points, but I was like, oh, this is good.
- 25:21And really seeking pleasure like holiness and holiness and how
- 25:26that really does make it easier to operate in like price
- 25:31character, like that's what you want to do.
- 25:33And you don't have a problem because you know who you are.
- 25:38You know who you are and you know what you're doing.
- 25:40You're standing on business, as they say, right?
- 25:43And tell Santa, cancel down. Absolutely.
- 25:48And you just made me think about an experience that I had
- 25:52recently where a person was trying to approach me and they
- 25:54were offering me sin or sin. And I was like, no thanks.
- 25:58Sin or sin what? It's like both of the options.
- 26:00I was like, no, I'm good bro. You know, someone told me one
- 26:05time like, OK, we all sin, but you just gotta choose your sins
- 26:08wisely. And I was like, OK.
- 26:10I mean, I know Christ came and died for us, but we don't have
- 26:13get out of sin free cards like for real, like yes, we do have
- 26:16repentance and we're not supposed to be like I'm use this
- 26:20what the day ever use like no. Yeah.
- 26:26OK, all right, so let's talk a little bit about strengthening
- 26:31your faith in the waiting, right?
- 26:33So how? Let's talk about how to stand.
- 26:36How do you stand courage? Or for our listeners, how to
- 26:40help them stay encouraged if they feel they're feeling
- 26:42forgotten. One community.
- 26:45I think it's really important to have a community of believers
- 26:50that around you because if you are down and out about
- 26:54something, if you're feeling discouraged about waiting or
- 26:57about anything else, you know, sometimes it's, it's, it's it's
- 27:01kind of productive to reach out to someone that really is going
- 27:04to kind of just be downright with you or not give you any
- 27:08encouragement or not give you anything that's based
- 27:11biblically. So I think it's really important
- 27:13to have a community of believers that can, that can, you know,
- 27:17kind of encourage you and help you get through that difficult
- 27:20time. I think that also having a
- 27:23community allows you to see what someone else is going through
- 27:30and can relate to what you're and that can relate to what
- 27:33you're going through. You know, like if you just kind
- 27:35of just stick to yourself and keep your problems to yourself
- 27:39or, you know, don't share anything, sometimes you miss
- 27:43like the opportunity for someone else to be a blessing to you by
- 27:47just sharing their story. Like, Oh yeah, I went through
- 27:49that. I got through that.
- 27:51Let me tell you how I did it. Let me tell you know, read this
- 27:54scripture, meditate on this, you know, and I think that's really,
- 27:58really important. And that's definitely something
- 28:00that I have or whether it's my family, my friends, my my
- 28:04colleagues, it's really important to have, especially
- 28:06when you're going through something really challenging.
- 28:09Love that. And since you're saying that, I
- 28:11was like, let me find some scriptures that support that
- 28:13because community is Bible, right?
- 28:16There's a lot of examples that are in here, even just that go
- 28:19with what you said. Galatians 62 carry each other's
- 28:22burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ,
- 28:26right? So that's talking about that
- 28:27shared experience that people are having and that they can
- 28:30help you get through it. Also like this one too, Acts 2,
- 28:3444 through 47, all the believers were together and had everything
- 28:39in common. They broke bread in their homes
- 28:41and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.
- 28:44And the Lord added to their number daily those who were
- 28:48being saved. Right.
- 28:50So there's so many things to support what we're saying and
- 28:53how to live like Christ, but we're not in the book.
- 28:57Yeah, I'm guilty of it. I'm like, I've been in it like
- 29:02more lately and I've been like the Bible so good like before.
- 29:06Everything that you need is right there it really.
- 29:08Is and I always heard that, but I just think in terms of like
- 29:12cognitive, like learning, like what age, when you know where
- 29:15you are, how you understand and interpret things, but then also
- 29:19having lived experiences to go with it and it just completely
- 29:23changes the context. It does.
- 29:25And I think that's happened to me throughout the years too.
- 29:27You know, when I've been reading the Bible when I was like a
- 29:29teenager, then in college and then now, and I'm like, I could
- 29:32read the same scripture all throughout those different times
- 29:35in my life and it means something different each time.
- 29:39Lived experience is definitely it.
- 29:42It just adds to a perspective of scriptures of life that I just
- 29:46didn't have before. Yeah, it definitely enhances it
- 29:50and that's why they say train them up in the way, right?
- 29:53And you know what to do then. So we talked a little bit about
- 29:56gratitude. So.
- 29:57But let's talk about that in conjunction with prayer and
- 30:01community and how those sustain faith.
- 30:04Absolutely. I mean prayer me and prayer like
- 30:07this. I, I don't do anything without
- 30:09praying. I pray over everything, hard
- 30:11things, small things. I'm like, Lord, I need a
- 30:14parking. I need a parking spot.
- 30:15Can you, can you open one up for me, please?
- 30:17And then literally one will open up.
- 30:20I thought. Me, I thought.
- 30:23No, no, no, I, I love, love prayer.
- 30:26And one of the things that I've learned too is like prayer is
- 30:29just a conversation. And you know, you don't have to
- 30:32be deep and, you know, speaking in tongues because I don't
- 30:35really do that, but I'm just like, I, I just need to talk to
- 30:39God. I need, I need to get this off
- 30:40my chest. I need to talk to God and I need
- 30:42to figure out what God wants me to do.
- 30:44And you know, I'll be led to a scripture and I'm like, OK, God,
- 30:47I, I got you. That's that's why I needed,
- 30:50that's why I need to go. But I think that prayer really,
- 30:54really guides my life and my practice and I really, truly
- 30:58believe, excuse me, that God hears my prayers.
- 31:03I remember, I laugh about it now, excuse me, but I was in
- 31:07this ministry, this woman's ministry called Queen Esther.
- 31:13I was, I was talking. So two things.
- 31:15I was talking about something that I was, I was praying about
- 31:19and I was just like, you know, I just don't, I don't feel like
- 31:22praying for this person because they're not acting right.
- 31:24And I mean, I feel like my prayers wasted.
- 31:27So as I thought my prayers wasted, you know, I'm over there
- 31:31praying for this person and then they just not doing what they're
- 31:33supposed to do. And, you know, I was really
- 31:36convicted in that moment. Well, because my, my sisters in
- 31:41the ministry were just, you know, they pointed out some
- 31:43things like you're doing, you're praying not because you're
- 31:47praying because it's required of you and because this is what
- 31:51you're supposed to be doing. Regardless of what you see,
- 31:55regardless of what you think should be happening right now.
- 31:58Again, it's the not yet or the no, regardless of all of that,
- 32:02you still have to do what you are supposed to do.
- 32:06So like, it doesn't matter if the person has changed.
- 32:09It doesn't matter if you're not seeing anything right now.
- 32:13You still have to pray. And, you know, and then I think
- 32:16the, the other take away for them was I was like, you know,
- 32:18my prayers mean something. You know, I'm over here praying
- 32:21to God and I know I'm getting a pray through.
- 32:23I know I can get a pray through. And you know, they over here,
- 32:25you know, doing whatever. And so I think it was a, it was
- 32:30a take away for them and for me, like, gosh, like I really do
- 32:33know that my prayers get answered and they, you know, and
- 32:36they mean something. So like if I'm not getting an
- 32:38immediate result at that time then it's a no or it's a not
- 32:41yet. And when we were speaking,
- 32:44'cause I hearing music sometimes, too, and I heard I
- 32:47got a seed in the ground. Is that is that William Murphy?
- 32:54I think it is. I think it is, yeah.
- 32:57So it's like, yeah, So your prayers on the ground.
- 33:02But I was like, before we get lost in the song, I will go
- 33:05there. Like I said, I hear music, but
- 33:07it's like it's OK in the ground. And that's what their prayers
- 33:11are. And then just like, wait, God
- 33:13and he'll do the rest. He'll water it, He'll give his
- 33:15sunshine, he'll fertilize it. And you and your continued
- 33:19prayers add to that too. So that's that's how we can
- 33:21quote UN quote help God, right? Yeah, and I love what you say
- 33:26about the sea too, because that reminds me of something else
- 33:28that my my aunt share with me that I've taken on too, like
- 33:32some, some plant, some water. And so, you know, and I, I think
- 33:37about that as it relates to prayer conversations.
- 33:40It's like, I don't want to water.
- 33:42I just want to plant and just keep it moving.
- 33:47You know, I'm tired of water and I'm going to get water and I'm
- 33:49just like, I'm getting dried up. So, you know, but I think, I
- 33:53think it's, it's a perspective. It's another perspective, right?
- 33:57Like, you know, some, some people come along in your life
- 34:00that either you are the, the part, the recipient, or you are
- 34:04the person to, to provide it. But you know, you're planting a
- 34:07seed, whether that's praying for someone, praying one time and
- 34:11then keeping it moving, you know, talking to them one time,
- 34:13giving them advice about something, giving them wisdom
- 34:15about something one time and then, you know, moving on.
- 34:18And then sometimes it's you're watering, you're the person
- 34:21that's you keep coming back, you keep praying for them, you keep
- 34:24doing this, you keep giving them, you know, wisdom and
- 34:26guidance. And and I think that's just all
- 34:28about that just speaks to just, you know, planting seeds and
- 34:32watering them. But yeah, I'm like, Lord, I need
- 34:36to be a a planting prayer. You see there how you want to do
- 34:42what you want to do, telling me the question before that guy
- 34:46hears your prayers and that you talk to him all the time.
- 34:50So people need your seeds. Yes, they leave them.
- 34:54So don't get frustrated in there, right?
- 34:56Like I said, that's essentially the waiting.
- 34:58And it's not your waiting, but waiting to see it show up in
- 35:01other people. But folks are in their own
- 35:03journeys with with God. And I love how you talk about
- 35:07talking to God all the time. And that prayer is a
- 35:10conversation. And that is how we build that
- 35:12intimate relationship with God. And that's how we figure out how
- 35:15he communicates with us. Like guys come through my radio,
- 35:19my TV screen, He has come through my phone.
- 35:22He he's come in my spirit, the way I have felt the Holy Spirit.
- 35:26Like there's so many different ways, which is, yeah.
- 35:29TuneIn tapping in and tuning in. But it starts with just simple
- 35:33conversation and he want to be your bestie and if people are
- 35:37with dating, he want to be your man first.
- 35:39Before that he wants to be your man and your best friend is what
- 35:42I'd be telling people, especially they are women.
- 35:46It's like that's what you want. Guy has to be in that position
- 35:48first because then you run the rest of those people becoming
- 35:52your idols. Yep.
- 35:56Yeah. And I wanted to just go back a
- 35:59little bit because I love what you said about about praying for
- 36:01people and how sometimes that can be.
- 36:04Well, I know it can be wearing. You know, we shouldn't be
- 36:07getting weary. And, you know, we just have to
- 36:08do what God has called us to do. But it reminds me of this
- 36:11Scripture. It's in Jude that talks about
- 36:13how God will give us grace. That's sufficient, right?
- 36:16And so whatever the situation is, like, even if I feel like
- 36:19I'm, I'm watering too much because I'm, I'm praying for
- 36:22some for this person and they haven't changed or whatever the
- 36:24case is, or they're just being nasty or they're being rude or
- 36:28I'm feeling like my prayers being wasted or whatever the
- 36:31case is, you know, God's grace is sufficient for me, for you,
- 36:36for that situation and to be able to help someone, whatever
- 36:39the circumstance is. I love that.
- 36:41Yep. And you also triggered another
- 36:44thought, a conversation that I was having before with someone
- 36:47about we have to let him. We've done our part.
- 36:53We said the prayer, we gave the wisdom, we watered, we planted,
- 36:57we gave encouragement, we gave sound biblical advice.
- 37:01Now we just let him. Yeah.
- 37:05Yeah. It's it's hard for a lot of
- 37:07people because it's, it's relinquishing control, you know,
- 37:11and some when you're, when you're over control recovery
- 37:16like me. That's the first time I've heard
- 37:19that, but yeah. When you're when you're in
- 37:21control recovery, you know it's hard.
- 37:24It's hard to relinquish control yes, it is it it's just hard.
- 37:30You know, I'm like, alright, I. Understand that because the need
- 37:33for control comes from something else.
- 37:35This is the response to something else, right?
- 37:38And I think for a lot of us and anyone that's listening, if we
- 37:43do have struggles with control, it's an opportunity for healing
- 37:47if we really look in. And that's something else that
- 37:49we do need to to give to God. And I don't want, we don't got
- 37:52to go into your specifics, but that's the clinical brain going
- 37:56over here just a little bit like it comes from somewhere that
- 37:59way, just because our lived experiences are part of that.
- 38:02And some of us needed control to get through very difficult
- 38:05seasons. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 38:08And you're right on. I mean, so you said, I said, oh,
- 38:10here come the social work brain coming out.
- 38:14Yeah. But a lot of times, you know,
- 38:15you you grow up in these situations where there's chaos
- 38:18all around you and you have to find control in that situation.
- 38:22And I mean, I know that that's definitely how it was for me.
- 38:25And again, I'm in controlled recovery because I'm trying to
- 38:30control every single thing that I didn't have control over in my
- 38:33younger. States exhausting.
- 38:34Yeah, and you can't. We can't go back and change our
- 38:36history, but then we try in our present.
- 38:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 38:42So that's that's that's that's the thing recovery you right.
- 38:47Yeah. That would control recovery
- 38:50because I think we all do a version of it because no one's
- 38:52had a perfect life. For sure, but I think there's
- 38:57also too freedom. Once you grieve that you have to
- 39:01grieve, you have to grieve that part of you that you can't
- 39:04change. And once you do, there's freedom
- 39:08in that too. It's like, OK, well, I can't
- 39:10change it. And, and really how it, how it
- 39:13looks now is, is a result of, you know, what happened before,
- 39:18but I can't change, but what happened before.
- 39:21And so like, this is the now and I have to grieve that and let
- 39:23that go and just be OK with the now.
- 39:26Yes, Oh, so good. That is so good.
- 39:31All right, so let's talk a little bit more about learning
- 39:36to see the season of waiting as a season of like preparation, as
- 39:40a season of refinement. You know, you mentioned being in
- 39:44the women's group with Esther, right, And how Esther went
- 39:46through 12 months of preparation, right?
- 39:51Let's talk about that. Like, how can we reframe this
- 39:54waiting season to make people feel empowered and still seen?
- 40:01That is a good question. I think that let me see.
- 40:06So yeah, So Queen as there's actually 18 months, OK.
- 40:12I thought you were a girl. Give me together.
- 40:15No, it was 18 months. But I think, I think that the
- 40:19biggest thing for me in waiting seasons and preparing for
- 40:22waiting seasons is to really just be OK, Like, OK, here's
- 40:30here's the take away I would say is that sometimes you have to
- 40:33recognize that you're in your answered prayers already.
- 40:36And. Say that one more time.
- 40:39You are living in an answered prayer today, right now.
- 40:43And I will share a little bit about what I mean by that by
- 40:47just talking a little bit about my own testimony, which I know
- 40:49might, you know, we might go back and forth with, but you
- 40:52know, I. So one of the most difficult
- 40:54things that I ever experienced in my life was when my brother
- 40:58got arrested and then was sentenced to prison.
- 41:03And that was the longest, most traumatic experience that I've
- 41:09had, or one of them at least in my life.
- 41:12And it was, from start to finish, a 12 year waiting
- 41:16experience. Oh my.
- 41:18Goodness, yeah, it was, yeah. And so he so it was released
- 41:22last year, almost last almost a year coming up.
- 41:25But between that, between that period of time, it was, it was
- 41:2812 years from the time that the event happened until last year.
- 41:31Yeah. And it was very, very traumatic,
- 41:35just everything that happened, not only for me, but also for
- 41:38like, my family, especially for my mom, because I've already
- 41:42lost a brother to gun violence. And so this, you know, and so,
- 41:46yeah, so I feel like this was what we call like a living
- 41:52death. So you have a death of a brother
- 41:54that's final, right? It's it's over.
- 41:57It's nothing you can do about that.
- 41:58And then you have a living death.
- 41:59And you have to live with trauma every day, whether it's the
- 42:03known trauma of the things that you know and then the unknowns
- 42:07of the things that you know are happening behind the scenes that
- 42:11you don't always know about, right?
- 42:12Like what's happening in prison or what's happening with his
- 42:14mental health or what's happening with whatever the case
- 42:17is. And so it was a very, it was
- 42:20just traumatic. Just going to the visit, like,
- 42:23OK, well, do I have to, I have to figure out what I'm going to
- 42:26wear. Then I'm going to be searched.
- 42:28I'm going to be touched everywhere.
- 42:29And then you have the dogs that are like going around you,
- 42:31sniffing on you and then making you feel scared.
- 42:33And then you have like, oh, OK, well, let me make sure that I
- 42:36have quarters, which it almost sent me to a a meltdown one time
- 42:41because I didn't have quarters. You have to have quarters.
- 42:43And, you know, then, you know, just dealing with like, oh, can
- 42:46you get all the way up there, drive 3 hours or 2 1/2 hours,
- 42:49and then there's no visit, right.
- 42:51Like, it's just when is this going to be over?
- 42:54Yeah. You know, like, this is in the
- 42:56moment, living in it. You know, it was just horrific.
- 43:00And I remember also when I was in Queen Esther and the women's
- 43:05ministry, I told my friend, I was like, you know, I'm just
- 43:07going to, because all I know to do was, is to pray.
- 43:11And so I'm going to fast and pray every week.
- 43:14And so my brother comes home and she said, well, what if he
- 43:19doesn't come home for 10 years? And I said, well, I guess I'm
- 43:21going to be fasting for 10 years because the Bible says that
- 43:24something's only come back fasting and praying.
- 43:26And that's what I need to do. I need to fast and I need to
- 43:28pray not only for him to come home, but you know, that he
- 43:32that, that, you know, he's a changed person, that you know,
- 43:37all these things that needs to accompany the, the prayer.
- 43:42And so and it, and it took almost 10 years for that to
- 43:46happen, but every week I'm fast and I'm praying.
- 43:49I'm fast and I'm praying. And sometimes I'm like, again, I
- 43:52had those moments. I'm like, he not even doing what
- 43:54he's supposed to do. I'm up here fast and praying for
- 43:55him. You know what I mean?
- 43:57And you know, they got me all the way together.
- 43:58Like, OK, well, no, no, no, you're doing this because this
- 44:01is what the Bible says. Some things only come by
- 44:04fastening and pray. So don't worry about.
- 44:08So you know, it was a lot of it was a lot of character building
- 44:12in that time because we, you know, all we, all we could do
- 44:15was wait and pray and hear from God.
- 44:18Remember God's promises. My mother's telling me about the
- 44:20promises God told her about her son.
- 44:23I'm reminded of God's promises to me.
- 44:25You know, I'm thinking about like all of all of these things
- 44:28and just pray, waiting, fasting. And so then he comes out, which
- 44:34was great, right? He comes out, I started my
- 44:37praying and fasting. So I'm like, you know, it's over
- 44:39for, for this situation. And then I was like, maybe like
- 44:44a couple of months later, I'm like, I got, I so like, what's
- 44:48next? That's what I want you to do.
- 44:50And then I was so convicted or God convicted me in that moment
- 44:54because it's like, wait a second, you, you did you
- 44:58remember what I did for you? You remember this 12 year
- 45:02process, 10 years of fasting and praying, what you ask for every
- 45:06single single day and every week that you fasted and prayed.
- 45:10You remember all that we, we're not going to just move on.
- 45:13You're living in answered prayers right now.
- 45:15That's in that regardless of what else I'm also asking God to
- 45:20do for him, regardless of what else I'm asking God to do for me
- 45:24in my waiting season, regardless of whatever I'm asking God to do
- 45:27for any, any, anything, anybody. I'm living in an answered prayer
- 45:32that I prayed for for 12 years. And I think sometimes people
- 45:37have to really think about what God has already done and think
- 45:43about how we're living and answered prayers right now.
- 45:46And if God did it before, he can do it again.
- 45:50Yeah. But guess what?
- 45:51Even if he don't do it, it don't mean that he's not worthy to be
- 45:54praised. Because one of the the my
- 45:56favorite stories of the Bible is the three Hebrew boys, Shadrach,
- 46:00Meshach, Abednego. You know, the kings like you
- 46:03better bow down to the statue and praise this and, you know,
- 46:06be idolatrous and all that. And they're like, no, we're not
- 46:08doing that. He said, all right, well, we're
- 46:10going to kill you. We're going to put you in this,
- 46:12in this fiery furnace. And then they were like, OK,
- 46:15well, God will, God has the ability and we believe that he
- 46:20will protect us and keep us. But even if he doesn't, we will
- 46:25never bow down to you, you know, and he's still worthy.
- 46:29So I think, I think that's the take away that I would say, or
- 46:32that's the thing in the waiting, in the waiting season.
- 46:36And when you're preparing, you have to realize, one, you're
- 46:39living in an answered prayer right now.
- 46:41And two, even if you don't get with God that you that has got
- 46:46well, you that you think God has told you or that you want, it
- 46:49doesn't mean that he's not worthy.
- 46:51It doesn't mean that he's not. He shouldn't get all the honor
- 46:53and all the glory. Yes, well, thank you first one
- 46:56for giving him glory because that's why I have this platform
- 47:00is to give him glory. So thank you so much for your
- 47:02testimony and giving that example like prayer and fasting
- 47:06became a way of life for you. So I'm I'm I'm also thinking
- 47:10like, well, what did you replace it with?
- 47:12Right, because you're so you know what I mean for all that
- 47:16time. And then also this is a good
- 47:19reminder to not get in the habit of having a transactional
- 47:23relationship with God. I get it.
- 47:25We're excited. He answers for we're like, God,
- 47:26what can we do next? Like how can we collaborate?
- 47:29But also to just take that time and be in it and just say, you
- 47:34know what, thank you and I'm gonna rest in this.
- 47:36I'm a hang out in a palm of your hands right now.
- 47:39Yes. Yeah, yes, I am a a task
- 47:44achiever. Like if you have like, oh, if
- 47:47there's a picture of like someone that completes task,
- 47:51it's gonna be me. So I I really have.
- 47:54I'm always like, OK, God, what? What's up?
- 47:57What's what's OK? We did this.
- 47:58OK, So my husband, you know, whatever, I'm get this next job.
- 48:03I'm gonna do this. And it's like, wait a second,
- 48:06wait, wait, just wait, just wait a minute, you know, just be
- 48:09content and realize that you have you're right now living in
- 48:13answered praise. And that's just one, one that
- 48:15has been the physics, the biggest significance that I can
- 48:19really identify at this point. But there's so many, there's so,
- 48:23so many, so many things that God has done that I have prayed for
- 48:27and I don't, I don't always recognize it in that moment.
- 48:30So one of the things that I do too, to really help me to
- 48:33remember, because, you know, sometimes my memory is not
- 48:35great, you know, unless God brings it to memories, is I keep
- 48:39a prayer journal. Yes.
- 48:41And so I pray, I, I put it in my prayer journal, praise reports,
- 48:46like things that God has done to bless me and then also prayer
- 48:49requests. And then whenever I'm about to
- 48:51make another entry, whether it's a praise report or prayer
- 48:54request, because sometimes they'll be like weeks in between
- 48:57or like months in between, 'cause I'm still praying like
- 49:01regularly, but like in my journal, I might have some time
- 49:04in between. But before I make my next entry,
- 49:07I always go back and I look at what I wrote before and I'm
- 49:10like, oh God, he, I, he answered that.
- 49:13So now I can't even, I can't even ask for this right here,
- 49:16'cause I'm, let me, let me start with a praise report on like
- 49:19God, thank you for doing that. You know, I didn't even realize
- 49:22that I had prayed for that and, and, and you and you answered
- 49:26that. So I think that is also good for
- 49:29people to do. Yes, I love that and you really,
- 49:33that was a good really segue into practical steps and ways to
- 49:36stay active while waiting. And it sounds like you can even
- 49:40add to your structure. So your praise request, your
- 49:43report and prayers answered so that that's automatically built
- 49:47in, right? I'm like, you're right.
- 49:50I've had that experience. Like I had to take a photo of a
- 49:53journal injury that I had written in like November.
- 49:56And then I had experienced my line sister had said something,
- 49:59told me something that God has said to her, her and I forgot
- 50:02all about my entry. And then one day, I think it was
- 50:06either last month or in February, I was flipping through
- 50:09my journal and I hit that page and I was like alignment because
- 50:12when she said it, I didn't think about the entry I wrote in
- 50:16November. She said this to me in December.
- 50:17And then I'm seeing and I sent her the picture.
- 50:19Like girl, God be doing the stuff that only he can do
- 50:25because I heard her. I heard it clear.
- 50:27I made my own sense of the thing and then he just really showed
- 50:31me how I was all connected. He'd be showing, yeah.
- 50:36Yeah, that's amazing. Yeah.
- 50:40So do you have any other practical steps?
- 50:42Because I don't want to if you got some more gems to drop on
- 50:45her. Well, I don't know.
- 50:47I don't know if I mean, let's see, I would say to like the the
- 50:53take away that I think also will be something that people should
- 50:57focus on or should take would be one, you're living in answered
- 51:01prayers, but also two, sometimes the lesson is not in the
- 51:07answered prayer or the goal or the task.
- 51:10The lesson is in the journey. And I think I've read.
- 51:14Have you, have you ever read The Alchemist?
- 51:16Yes. Yes, OK, so I.
- 51:20Read it one time and then I listened to it another time.
- 51:24OK, so yeah, so I read it a while ago.
- 51:26I'm on this. I love reading and I'm on this
- 51:29book journey and I read this. I read the The Alchemist and I
- 51:36was so invested in him trying to find this treasure and you know,
- 51:41I'm like, OK, is he going to get to the treasure?
- 51:43Is he going to get the girl? Like he loves this girl?
- 51:46Like if he go like what's happened?
- 51:48I'm flipping something and I guess like the last maybe like 2
- 51:51pages, I'm like, OK, he didn't get the treasure.
- 51:56He didn't, he didn't get like, you know, like, you know,
- 51:58because again, I'm very task oriented.
- 52:00Like there's a picture of me right there.
- 52:03And I'm like, OK, so he didn't meet his goal.
- 52:05And it just really just went over my head that the goal was
- 52:08not to get the treasure. The goal was the journey and
- 52:11what you learned in the process of getting there.
- 52:14And I think that's how we as humans should be too.
- 52:18Like don't necessarily focus on, you know, the thing, right,
- 52:22Whatever The thing is, because sometimes it's the journey
- 52:25getting there. It's the stuff that that God is
- 52:28building within us, You know, the things that God is preparing
- 52:30us for the character development.
- 52:32It's so many hard things that have happened.
- 52:34And I can, I would use my brothers as an example, him
- 52:37getting arrested just because I brought that up.
- 52:39But I'm like, I would have never fast and prayed the way that I
- 52:43did had that not happened. That was my journey.
- 52:46That was what I learned and I got.
- 52:49So. Yeah, yeah.
- 52:51I got so much, so much closer. I learned how to have faith.
- 52:55I had so much faith during that time.
- 52:58I'm like, oh, I don't know how it's going to happen, but I just
- 53:00know. I just know it like I know it,
- 53:02you know, I mean, they talk about having faith as small as a
- 53:04mustard seed and, and it was, it was strong, you know, during
- 53:08that time. And that would not have been the
- 53:11case had I not been do anything like that.
- 53:13It just wouldn't. And that's just a part of the
- 53:15journey. Yep.
- 53:16That refinement process and you strengthening your skills like
- 53:21your spiritual relationship, your faith, like all of that,
- 53:25that's good. Nothing gets wasted.
- 53:26So even on the surface, these things that look horrible, that
- 53:30are traumatic, God is always doing something.
- 53:33Nothing is ever wasted. One of my previous guests, she
- 53:37introduced this concept of spiritual compost.
- 53:39Yeah, girl, I was like when I heard it too.
- 53:42But like, all of that was spiritual compost for you to
- 53:45enrich you. And then whatever else God did
- 53:48with and for your brother and then even through him, right?
- 53:54And then even the visits like you're saying you are going
- 53:57faithfully to go see him. Like other people saw that
- 54:00there's so many things that we're doing that we just don't
- 54:04even think about. That is planting seeds that
- 54:06we'll never even know. It's like, I heard this story
- 54:09about this like like a clay water container and we had like
- 54:16it had a hole in it, right? So the person would carry it and
- 54:20then they would get to wherever they're going and they only come
- 54:22back with less than what they thought, right?
- 54:25And so they were complaining about it.
- 54:26And then it was explained to them, go back and walk and look
- 54:30what's happening along the way where you water and there's
- 54:32other flowers because they had no idea that they were watering
- 54:38all of this. And all they did was complain
- 54:40about the hole in the and it watered and all these things.
- 54:46So wow. That's.
- 54:47Yeah, right. I love that that goes with the
- 54:51journey, right? It called that story and it's
- 54:54the journey. But then also things and people
- 54:58that were that you touch you have no idea and just leaving
- 55:01everything. Yeah, but I and I think too
- 55:04sometimes it's, you know, it's hard to not, I know we talked
- 55:07about this early, but it's hard to not resent the journey too.
- 55:10You know what it is? It's like, oh gosh, like like
- 55:15even when was it 2025? I was like, I got 2025.
- 55:20Come on. Like that.
- 55:21I'm I'm, I'm resilient. Yep.
- 55:23Of all these things, you know, I exhibit the fruits of the
- 55:26spirit. I don't need another, you know,
- 55:29hard year. So and you know, we have to be
- 55:33careful not to resent that because we don't know what all
- 55:36the time what we should be gleaning in our difficult times.
- 55:38And that's why we it's important for us to seek him.
- 55:41It's a seek God about OK, God, what should I be learning in
- 55:45this, in this journey? Or, you know, instead of just
- 55:48saying, what was me or, you know, I'm, you know, acting like
- 55:52a victim, like, OK, God, this has happened.
- 55:54I mean, you crying tears and all that, OK.
- 55:57But once you get yourself together, all right, God, what
- 56:00should I be learning in this experience?
- 56:01Or why am I having this experience again, yet again?
- 56:04But maybe you didn't learn it right the first time, you know,
- 56:07Because sometimes God keeps giving you the test because you
- 56:10keep failing than a test. Yes, that's good.
- 56:13And I talked with my clients about life being a video game
- 56:16and now that if anything we play with as much as we have to
- 56:19repeat the levels until we do everything that needs to be done
- 56:23right. Like so I think about Super
- 56:25Mario Brothers, right, because I was just like one of the games I
- 56:29learned to play. But you have to do all these
- 56:31things go through the different levels and at the end you get to
- 56:33the Princess, right? And so when you don't do certain
- 56:37things, you have to start over. But even oh, this is going to be
- 56:40good Mario Brothers. There are times where things are
- 56:45hidden. Have you remembered the ones
- 56:47when you go up and you get the thing and you it shrinks you
- 56:49down and I mean, yes, going to this under level and it's hidden
- 56:54and then you pop back out further than you were, yes.
- 56:57Oh. My God, that you forget, yes,
- 57:03that, that that is a good representation.
- 57:05Sometimes we are hidden. Everything does not need to be
- 57:08seen above ground where everyone can see it, where it's
- 57:11noticeable. But at the end of the day, we
- 57:14get to go back and start over. And that's the beauty of our
- 57:17relationship with Christ and that we make mistakes and we do
- 57:20have the opportunity to get it right.
- 57:23It doesn't mean we have infinite lives, right?
- 57:25Because we get the one life to live, but just really just doing
- 57:29that and learning from it each time.
- 57:34Because that means we haven't yet gotten the lesson, which
- 57:36means we haven't gotten whatever it is He needed us to get from
- 57:41that, to go to the next level and get closer to our purpose,
- 57:45to our divine assignment. Yeah.
- 57:47All right, so then how do we discern when it's time to wait
- 57:52versus when it's time to take action?
- 57:54You've been a woman of action. I mean, I think it just goes
- 57:58back to making sure that you know how to hear from God.
- 58:02You know, it's different ways. If you know how to hear from
- 58:06God, you'll know how to discern. Sometimes it can be God speaking
- 58:11to you. Sometimes it can be like
- 58:13literally you hear his voice. Like I've heard his voice a
- 58:14couple times. I was like, what?
- 58:16I was scared. I was like, Oh no, my mom was
- 58:19like no, no, no. When God calls your name, you
- 58:20need to say yes Lord. So the next time I was like,
- 58:22yes, Lord, I mean, but it was, it was.
- 58:25If you gonna be overwhelmed or scared by something, right,
- 58:28that's that. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:31So I, I think, yeah, discernment, you just, you have
- 58:34to, you have to know how God speaks to you.
- 58:37I think it's also really, really helpful for you to have people
- 58:42in your life that have wisdom. I, I would say certain people in
- 58:49my life like wisdom is chasing you, but you're running faster
- 58:54and, you know, they're like a sprinter in the Olympics, you
- 58:57know, wisdom can't catch them. So not only do you have to have
- 59:00people that have wisdom, but you have to really be able to hear
- 59:04what they're saying and really, you know, implement what they're
- 59:07saying. So I think that's important
- 59:10because someone can someone that has wisdom can tell you like, Oh
- 59:13no, that's not God would tell you to do that.
- 59:16That's not, that's not how God told you to get that husband to
- 59:18take somebody else's husband. You know, like, that's not,
- 59:22that's, that's not biblical. At all.
- 59:27You know, it just really you, you really have to and, and I
- 59:30heard you say this earlier, you know, be open to accountability.
- 59:34You know, it's hard to discern from God or the people that God
- 59:40has placed in your life when you're not willing to be
- 59:41accountable to anybody. And if you're not accountable to
- 59:44anybody, you're out of control. And there's a scripture
- 59:47somewhere in there about a person who isn't open to
- 59:49correction. I will have to look it up.
- 59:51But that definitely applies to what you're saying.
- 59:55Yeah, absolutely. So what are some signs in your
- 1:00:00experience and opinion? Right.
- 1:00:03For recognizing that God is preparing you for the next step.
- 1:00:06What are some of those signs when you know well for me?
- 1:00:11Something stays within me and it doesn't leave.
- 1:00:14So I'm like, I know that I've been through a lot in my life
- 1:00:18and I know that my purpose is to help other people get through
- 1:00:22similar circumstances based on what I went through.
- 1:00:25I don't want to do it but it's just stays within me.
- 1:00:30Like. Well, nowhere like.
- 1:00:31Let him go anywhere. I'm like, oh, come on, God, no.
- 1:00:36And I think when, when something just just stays there, just
- 1:00:40sticks there. You just know that that's what
- 1:00:43you know, it doesn't, it doesn't, it doesn't matter.
- 1:00:46Like I can be like, OK, God will like, can I do it this way?
- 1:00:50Can I do it this way? Can, you know, try to make
- 1:00:51myself more comfortable. And you know, I hear God like I
- 1:00:54don't care how you do it. Just do it, you know, do it
- 1:00:57scared. And I that's my thing now, like,
- 1:01:00you know, if I'm fearful. If I'm you know.
- 1:01:02Do a scare. Do it anyway.
- 1:01:04Because one thing that I know and I've learned is that if
- 1:01:08you're, if you're having some type of anxiety about some doing
- 1:01:11something new or doing something that you know, you're afraid of,
- 1:01:15it's not that you don't have the skill set or the education or
- 1:01:18the experience to do it. You know, it's, it's not that.
- 1:01:22It's just that you're doing something new and that's why
- 1:01:25it's scary. But do it anyway.
- 1:01:28So that's what I would say. I mean, just something that just
- 1:01:31doesn't leave you and you can't shake.
- 1:01:34It's like, you know, every, every, every, every time you
- 1:01:37come around someone, they're like, oh, yeah, you gonna be so
- 1:01:39and so or, you know, or you're really a a sweet person.
- 1:01:42You're a compassionate person. Or you're, you know, it's just
- 1:01:44like, OK, all right. Thank you.
- 1:01:47Thank you, Kylie. But how do you use God's gifts
- 1:01:51to really help someone else? Right?
- 1:01:53Like, I really want my life to be the reason that people seek
- 1:01:57God or that people seek God. And you know, some of it can be
- 1:02:03like other people watching me and watching how I live.
- 1:02:05But some of it is just also putting myself out there
- 1:02:09speaking about it more, advocating for certain things
- 1:02:12that are meaningful based on the things that I've been through.
- 1:02:15It's not just looking at my life that is 1 aspect because some
- 1:02:19people, your life will be the only Bible they ever see.
- 1:02:22So that's important. But some of it is it's more,
- 1:02:24it's more than that. And I think just when you have
- 1:02:27something that's within you that doesn't leave and you know you
- 1:02:31can't shake, that's how you know.
- 1:02:33Yes, something within you. I'd love that.
- 1:02:37OK, and and and I also heard it's within you.
- 1:02:40You might resist or you might not be checking for it and God
- 1:02:44keeps sending it in different ways.
- 1:02:46It's that thing that keep it keep popping up.
- 1:02:48It won't go away it. Won't go away.
- 1:02:51I'm like leave me alone, you know, leave me alone.
- 1:02:55Like even had a one of my one of my family members was in my was
- 1:03:02in my spirit one time and God had told me to reach out to him
- 1:03:04about something. I'm minding my business.
- 1:03:07Nope, I'm good. And I've ever like.
- 1:03:11One minute it wouldn't just kept.
- 1:03:14It was like heaviness. I kept thinking about it started
- 1:03:17having like somatic symptoms and I'm just like, all right, God,
- 1:03:20fine, like all right. So then I reached out and it was
- 1:03:23fine. And I think that's the other
- 1:03:24thing too. It's like, I have so much like
- 1:03:27worked up thoughts, anxiety, thinking things are going to be
- 1:03:32one way. And it's, it's never like my
- 1:03:34work. But my way of thinking sometimes
- 1:03:36can be so extreme of like, oh, this happens.
- 1:03:39Or if I reach out or if I share my story or whatever the case
- 1:03:42is, it's going to look this way. And it's always like extreme
- 1:03:45negative. And it's never that way.
- 1:03:47It's never the case. And I think that's also a lesson
- 1:03:49for me too. And maybe for some viewers, like
- 1:03:52once you start doing the things that God has called you to do
- 1:03:56and that has put on your heart and that you're passionate
- 1:03:59about, you'll realize that like, it wasn't as scary as you
- 1:04:02thought, or it wasn't as bad as you thought, or wasn't bad at
- 1:04:06all. You know that.
- 1:04:07You just have to take the first step.
- 1:04:09Yeah, yeah, absolutely. That first step, you're like me,
- 1:04:12'cause I, I said, God, you got me out here being weird.
- 1:04:16What? But I'm a do it because it's
- 1:04:18you. But it's weird and and I'm not
- 1:04:21feeling it but I'm a do it. Yes, I mean, I'm still, I'm
- 1:04:25still working 'cause like I said, I'm in, I'm a control.
- 1:04:28I'm I'm I'm in you control recovery.
- 1:04:32Yes. So, you know, sometimes I'm
- 1:04:34like, Nah, God, I ain't about to do that.
- 1:04:36And then sometimes I'm like, alright, I'm going to do it.
- 1:04:39But I'm a wait a little minute and then sometimes I'm like,
- 1:04:42alright, let me just do it. But you know, congratulation is
- 1:04:46that's a tough one. That's.
- 1:04:46A whole thing too. Yeah, I said that's a tough one.
- 1:04:50Like when it's something that we really don't want to do or the
- 1:04:53thing that we're scared to do. And I think it is important to,
- 1:04:57like you said, do it anyway, and also that you're not doing it by
- 1:05:02yourself. And if God is telling you to do
- 1:05:04it, then you're 100% guaranteed success.
- 1:05:09Yeah. He's testing, he's refining you
- 1:05:11because like being on this walk with God is not easy, even
- 1:05:15though he's like keeps us hidden, He keeps us protected.
- 1:05:18He has was in the palm of his hand.
- 1:05:20You know, I forget where it is in the Bible where you know what
- 1:05:23Jesus is telling others that Jesus is telling the disciples
- 1:05:28they hate me so they're going to hate you.
- 1:05:31You know what I mean? We are going to experience some
- 1:05:33barriers in opposition and like where people are going to be
- 1:05:36anti and that just comes with it.
- 1:05:39And just like roll with that. But like God has you no matter
- 1:05:43what. So we, we do have to kind of
- 1:05:46like let go of perception. What are they going to think?
- 1:05:50Or Dang, I sound weird. This is ridiculous, but he's
- 1:05:56going to reward your obedience and then also you're you're.
- 1:06:00He's already opened the path for whatever it is to be received
- 1:06:05and because you're tuned and tapped in more than those people
- 1:06:09in your family, that's why he's coming through you to be a
- 1:06:12messenger to them and help them in their relationship with him.
- 1:06:17Yeah. I mean, that's, that's true.
- 1:06:19I think that sometimes I don't. I don't always, or at least then
- 1:06:24I didn't always view myself as the mouthpiece in certain
- 1:06:28situations. And I'm like, well, why?
- 1:06:30Why you choosing me? Like I'm not even a speaking is
- 1:06:33not my thing. That's I prefer to write.
- 1:06:36I prefer to keep everything inside.
- 1:06:38Listen, I could be hidden. I don't mind being hidden.
- 1:06:41God, just behind the scenes. Keep me, keep me back there.
- 1:06:46But you know, I think it's about preparing me too or just making
- 1:06:50me feel more comfortable for whatever God is going to have
- 1:06:53for me. And I think something else that
- 1:06:56comes to mind is when I was my, my, my second mom, I call her my
- 1:07:02second mom. My aunt was diagnosed with
- 1:07:03cancer. And after that diagnosis, I
- 1:07:06started a, a prayer call for my cousins that I, I still do.
- 1:07:11So this was in 2022, June of 2022, and I still do that now to
- 1:07:16this day, every every week, every Wednesday.
- 1:07:19But I don't want to do it. And I, I mean, I was like God
- 1:07:22had put in my spirit, like, OK, maybe, you know, do a prayer
- 1:07:25call, you know, some encouragement, pray for people.
- 1:07:28And I'm like, I know I'm not like an evangel person, you
- 1:07:32know, I'm not Speaking of thumbs.
- 1:07:34I'm not, I mean, I pray, I talk to God, but like, you know, the
- 1:07:40way that I talk to God, like God, let me give me this pocket
- 1:07:42space or please, you know, help me out or whatever.
- 1:07:45But like, I'm not a, I'm not this.
- 1:07:48I didn't view myself as this person to, to be, I guess worthy
- 1:07:52of being able to even do this or put this together.
- 1:07:55And then I had so much anxiety about it.
- 1:07:57Like I just hate speaking in public, even doing this.
- 1:08:00I'm like, this is a, you know, this is a stretch for me too,
- 1:08:04because that's not something that I would normally agree to
- 1:08:06do. But I, it has been such a
- 1:08:08blessing to people to have this cult like this prayer call, like
- 1:08:13sometimes my cousins reach out like, oh, that's, you know, so
- 1:08:16great or thank you so much. And I'm like, really, I really
- 1:08:20just don't, I just don't, I don't know, I just feel like
- 1:08:24it's it, it's, it's really nothing but God.
- 1:08:27It's not me at all. It's nothing but God and what
- 1:08:30God has instructed me to do because if it was me, I wouldn't
- 1:08:34be doing it. I wouldn't be doing it.
- 1:08:37Yep, two things God doesn't call to qualified, he qualifies the
- 1:08:42call to call. Yes, you OK.
- 1:08:45And then two, I'm hearing that there are sometimes where in
- 1:08:50settings where it's appropriate for you to be hidden and there
- 1:08:53are other times when he needs you to leave.
- 1:08:58Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
- 1:09:01OK. Well, do you have any last like
- 1:09:05testimonies or insight that you like to share with our audience
- 1:09:08about the waiting season? I would just, if you can glean
- 1:09:15into my journey and in my life, the two things that I've
- 1:09:18reiterated, the most I would say is just make sure that you focus
- 1:09:23on living and answer prayers and that sometimes the lesson is in
- 1:09:30the journey and it's not in the answered prayer or it's not in
- 1:09:33the goal. So no, at the risk of sounding
- 1:09:37redundant, I do close every time with the signature question.
- 1:09:41Right. Like what is 1 powerful truth
- 1:09:44that you can leave with the audience to help them to rise in
- 1:09:47faith and thrive in purpose? Rise in faith and thrive and
- 1:09:52purpose. What would I say say going back
- 1:09:59to the story that I mentioned about the three three Shebrew
- 1:10:03boys and just really making sure that you're you have a solid
- 1:10:08foundation in your faith because if you have a solid foundation
- 1:10:11in your faith, then you will always thrive.
- 1:10:15And the foundation is is through Christ.
- 1:10:17So whatever your journey is, whatever you're waiting on,
- 1:10:20whatever you're going through, if you have that foundation,
- 1:10:23then that's the limit. Yes, thank you so much, Jaimel,
- 1:10:29for being here and just giving so many gems and just like Rich,
- 1:10:34just digestible, tangible advice that I think our audience can
- 1:10:39take an appliance to their lives.
- 1:10:40So thank you so much for being here and taking time out today.
- 1:10:45Well, thank you for having me. I really appreciate it.
- 1:10:48And gospel reward your obedience for being here.
- 1:10:50And I think I've told you this before, God didn't give you that
- 1:10:53very beautiful, unique voice that you have for it to just
- 1:10:58quiet. Just just just know that.
- 1:11:01So now we're going to shift to our call to action for our
- 1:11:04audience. SO1 audience members, I want you
- 1:11:06all to reflect. What are you waiting for and how
- 1:11:10has your perspective on waiting shake your face?
- 1:11:14And then of course, we want you to take action.
- 1:11:18We want you to identify one way you can embrace the waiting
- 1:11:21season with purpose. So whether that's through your
- 1:11:25spiritual growth, learning, serving others, getting a
- 1:11:28community, just identify one way and act on it on how to embrace
- 1:11:34this waiting season. And then finally, I'm going to
- 1:11:37send you out with an affirmation.
- 1:11:39I trust God's timing, even when I don't understand the delay.
- 1:11:44What he has for me will come at the right time.
- 1:11:49All right, So thank you all again for joining us on Rise and
- 1:11:54Thrive with Doctor J Nicole. And I want to thank my guests
- 1:11:56one more time and time now. And I want to give you an
- 1:12:01opportunity to plug your your business or anything like that
- 1:12:05you like to share with them and how can they stay in touch with
- 1:12:08you? Sure, sure.
- 1:12:10So right now I have Great Grace Wildness LLC.
- 1:12:15So one of my my friends, they dubbed me as the person that's
- 1:12:19like I'm somebody that always knows somebody like, you know, I
- 1:12:22know somebody to know somebody. And so I think my my business
- 1:12:26really is the foundation of that is that like it's a hub for
- 1:12:30referring people for resources, making sure that they have the
- 1:12:34information that they need to be successful.
- 1:12:36So we provide direct services, whether that's supervision,
- 1:12:39clinical supervision or group supervision.
- 1:12:41Also training on certain topics like mental health, financial
- 1:12:45Wellness. And then we provide services
- 1:12:48that are not direct, indirect services.
- 1:12:50That's like, you know somebody, know somebody.
- 1:12:51So if you need support with finding therapeutic resources
- 1:12:56like therapy or if you have questions about child welfare
- 1:12:59services or anything like that, helping to learn about different
- 1:13:03programs, outpatient programs, getting connected.
- 1:13:07Definitely you can follow us more on Instagram.
- 1:13:11I can make sure that I send you my handle for that, but just

- 1:13:16business. All right, well, thank you again
- 1:13:19and just so happy and I was like, how's social work of her
- 1:13:22the like you're describing again, I know somebody know
- 1:13:25somebody to be the hub. I was like, and I love how
- 1:13:30you're able to take those skills that we use to help clients, but
- 1:13:34to also monetize it and show that social work has
- 1:13:38entrepreneurial like transferable skills.
- 1:13:41So thank you again for being here today.
- 1:13:45And again, thank you all for tuning in and we will see you
- 1:13:49next time and we'll continue to rise in faith and thrive and
- 1:13:52purpose. Thank you so much.
- 1:13:59Yeah.
