- 0:05Speaker 1: Once again, It's time to catch up with Country Weekly,
- 0:09where we check out news and gossip from that world
- 0:12of country music. I'm your host, Ken Dawkins, and I'll
- 0:15be reading from various sources found online. As a reminder,
- 0:19RADIOI is a reading service intended for people who are
- 0:22blind or have other disabilities that make it difficult to
- 0:26read printed material. We'll be of the first article dated
- 0:29March thirty first from countrycentral dot com. First Up, Dan
- 0:35and Shay reveal new song. Dan and Shay have officially
- 0:39signaled their return, sharing a handwritten note to fans announcing
- 0:43new music on the way and putting to rest any
- 0:45speculation about their status as a group. Posted to their
- 0:49social media accounts. The message comes after a period of
- 0:52relative quiet from the pair. In it, they emphasize both
- 0:56their renewed creative energy and the strength of their friendship
- 0:59while teasing the release of a new single titled Say So.
- 1:03The full statement reads high, as you know, we've been
- 1:06quiet for a while, and we just wanted to start
- 1:08by saying thank you so much for being patient with us. No,
- 1:11we didn't almost break up again lol. In fact, our
- 1:15friendship is stronger than ever and we're really proud of that.
- 1:18Over the past year, we've gotten to spend more time
- 1:20in the studio together than we have since we made
- 1:23the Where It All Began album back in twenty thirteen,
- 1:26and that has been so life giving. Dan and Shay
- 1:30go on to say, even though we've missed seeing everyone
- 1:32on the road, that changes soon, stay tuned and keeping
- 1:35up with you on socials. We've had what we feel
- 1:37is the most inspired burst of creativity in our entire career,
- 1:41and we wanted to capture every bit of it. Sounds
- 1:44cliche for an artist to say, but these songs really
- 1:46are more personal and honest than anything we've ever done before.
- 1:50Because the music means so much to us, we have
- 1:52held it close and obsessed every detail, and now we
- 1:55are ready to start sharing it with the world. We're
- 1:58beyond excited to announce that the first single, say So,
- 2:01will be yours this week, and the song is a
- 2:04true story about a friend who we lost not long ago,
- 2:07and we hope it offers strength and encouragement to anyone
- 2:10going through a tough time. The subject matter is heavy,
- 2:13it is serious, it is timely, and it is something
- 2:15we feel is important to talk about. We also worked
- 2:19hard to create our most powerful music video yet and
- 2:21it will be released at the same time. It would
- 2:24mean a whole lot to us if you took a
- 2:26few minutes to check it out. So much more to
- 2:29say about say so the rest of the music soon,
- 2:32but again, thank you for always being in our corner.
- 2:34We get to do something we love because of you
- 2:36and will forever be grateful. This is officially the start
- 2:39of the next chapter and we truly believe it will
- 2:42be the best. Much love, Dan and Shay. Thus far,
- 2:46no details have been shared about a potential full length
- 2:49LP aside from the upcoming single Next. Billy Strings reveals

- 4:01album with Brian Sutton recorded at Nashville's American Legion Post

- 4:57The tour begins June twelfth in Chicago and runs through
- 4:59lif late October. This run comes after a stack performance
- 5:03slate in twenty twenty five, including the band's lengthy Wild
- 5:06America Tour, as well as a number of the Boys
- 5:08from Oklahoma Stadium shows alongside the newly reformed Cross Canadian Ragweed.
- 5:14Most recently, they Surprised, released their seventh album, The Price
- 5:17of Admission this past summer, as well as a tribute
- 5:20to the late singer songwriter Todd Snyder with Just Like
- 5:23Old Times. Back in November next, Florida Georgia Line reunites
- 5:30with Country Radio seminar performance. Back on March nineteenth, Tyler
- 5:35Hubbard and Brian Kelly of Florida Georgia Line performed together
- 5:38at the Country Radio seminar, marking their first public musical
- 5:42appearance since the group's twenty twenty two hiatus. With Jason
- 5:46Aldean in attendance, the pair delivered an acoustic rendition of
- 5:49You Make It Easy, the twenty eighteen hit they co
- 5:52wrote with Morgan Wallen and Jordan Schmidt, which Aldan recorded
- 5:55and took to number one on Billboard's Country Airplay chart.
- 6:00R to Georgia Line announced an indefinite hiatus back in
- 6:02February twenty two, following a decade of success that included,
- 6:06of Course, multi platinum singles such as Cruise Wholly and
- 6:10Meant to Be with bb Rexa. Their final performance took
- 6:14place in September of that year at the Minnesota State Fair.
- 6:17The split stem from different career directions, particularly Kelly's interest
- 6:21in pursuing solo projects. In December twenty twenty five appearance
- 6:25on The Human School podcast, Hubbard described the decision as
- 6:28rooted in professional boundaries rather than personal conflict. He noted
- 6:33Kelly's commitment to a solo path after a song pitched
- 6:36to Kenny Chesney did not advance, stating BK stuck to
- 6:40his convictions and led with his gut eyeset of Boundary.
- 6:44Both artists have since built solo careers. Hubbard, signed to
- 6:46Big Loud Records, has released singles such as five foot
- 6:49nine and Dancing in the Country, along with his twenty
- 6:53twenty three self titled album. For his part, Kelly has
- 6:56released two installments of Sunshine, State of Mind, Beach countrys.
- 7:01Recent comments indicate efforts to rebuild their friendship. Hubbard said
- 7:05in late twenty twenty five, I have a desire for
- 7:08that friendship. I missed the guy I was partner with
- 7:10for ten years. We need to repair and spend some
- 7:13time together face to face. I'm excited for that. Now.
- 7:18Moving on, we go over to saving country music with
- 7:21the first article published March thirty first New Telecasters seventy
- 7:26fifth tribute set for Ryman with Top Names. If you
- 7:30know anything about country music, you know how integral the
- 7:34Fender Telecaster guitar has been to the music's twenty sound
- 7:37over the years. Different from the more rock oriented Stratocaster
- 7:41or other guitar models. It's the Telly's features, like the
- 7:44lipstick pick up near the neck, that's lent to so
- 7:47many of the spine tingling leads in your favorite country songs.
- 7:50Over the years. That's why on Monday at the May
- 7:54fourth at the Mother Church of Country Music, a major
- 7:57roster of talent will assemble to celebrate seven tventy five
- 8:00years of the telecaster and of course still a little
- 8:03pickt legendary teleplayers and master guitarists like Zach Topp, Brent Mason,
- 8:08Brad Paisley, Dereck Wells, Guthrie Trapp, James Burton, Luke McCreery,
- 8:13Ricky Skaggs, Steve Warrener and Brothers Osbourne's teleslinger John Osborne
- 8:18will all be appearing. Usually the guitarist play second fiddle
- 8:22to the singer and primary performer in country music, but
- 8:25it happens to be that some of the greatest performers
- 8:27in country have also been teleplayers, like Zach top and
- 8:31Brad Paisley, and even back in the day with Marty Stewart,
- 8:33Whalon Jennings and so many others. Ricky Skaggs might be
- 8:37considered mostly a bluegrass guy, but during his electric era
- 8:41in the eighties he could pick tell as good as any.
- 8:44Serving as music director for Teletown is a true honor,
- 8:48especially in my home city of Nashville, where I grew
- 8:50up and where the Telecaster's legacy runs so deep, says
- 8:54noted teleplayer Dereck Wells. Putting the show together has been
- 8:58about more than just great players. It's about capturing the
- 9:01spirit of an instrument that shaped so much of the
- 9:03music we all love. This lineup is full of people
- 9:06who've lived with this guitar. On stage and in the studio,
- 9:09you'll see people playing with love and reverence for what
- 9:12is an instrument has meant to us all Along with
- 9:15the show with the Ryman Auditorium. The day before, on
- 9:18May third, there will be a Telecaster road show at
- 9:21Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville, with master builder Paul Waller,
- 9:25master pickup winder Josephina Campos, and Fender's Chief of Engineer
- 9:29of Guitars, Tim Shaw all on hand from six to
- 9:32nine p m. Seventy five years after its debut, the
- 9:36Fender Telecaster remains proof that simplicity endures, adaptable enough to
- 9:41move across genres, generations, and stages without losing its identity.
- 9:45This celebration is our way of honoring not just an instrument,
- 9:49but a cultural phenomenon that has shaped music for over
- 9:52seven decades, says Fender, president of America's justin Norville. Next,
- 9:58Braxton Keith announces new new debut album, Real Damn Deal.
- 10:03It's not just one or two new young country traditionalists
- 10:06making waves and surging in popularity. It's a whole gaggle
- 10:09of them, says saving country music, and who knows. By
- 10:12the time Braxton Keith's debut album, Real Damn Deal is
- 10:16released on May fifteenth, he might be leading the pack
- 10:20down in Texas. Few if anyone needs convincing that Braxton
- 10:22Keith isn't just the next big thing, but a one
- 10:25man phenomenon, packing out venues and young adults listening to
- 10:28old sounding country music and loving every minute of it.
- 10:33These are fans that were born and raised on whitely
- 10:35and straight but identify with Braxton Keith because he's from
- 10:39their generation. As parent look on with pride and all
- 10:42of this in two point two million monthly Spotify listeners
- 10:45is happening ahead of Braxton's debut album. Now signed to
- 10:49Warner Records in Nashville, Braxton Keith could have contemporized his
- 10:53sound and smoothed off the pointy, twangy edges, but if anything,
- 10:57as time has gone on, Braxton has doubled down on
- 10:59his tradition neo traditional sound, including the Western swing inspired
- 11:03I Ain't Trying and his latest track little Bit by
- 11:06little Bit. He's also recently released cover versionship George Strait's
- 11:10The Chair and Johnny Paycheck's Slide Off Your Satin Sheets.
- 11:15We've been writing for a long time for this, as
- 11:17Braxton Keith, who co wrote ten of the album's fifteen tracks,
- 11:21I wanted it to be a nostalgic, classic sounding record
- 11:23and to showcase a little bit of everything as country
- 11:26as we could make it in every way, shape and form.
- 11:29I'm really proud of it. Helping Braxton along the way
- 11:32is a killer list of writing contributors, including Jim Lauderdale,
- 11:36Liz Rose on multiple songs, Chris Stapleton, Josh Thompson, and
- 11:40Roger Miller via a cover of Glenn Campbell's Am I
- 11:43All Alone? Or Is It Only Me? The album is
- 11:46produced by Alex Torres and David Dorn. Now some might
- 11:50think it's pretty self aggronizing and presumptuous for Braxton Keith
- 11:54proclaim he's the real damn deal on the cover of
- 11:56his debut album. Braxton initially felt that way two I
- 12:01shot down the idea of this album title when it
- 12:03was first brought up, says Keith. It felt cocky and
- 12:06that's not who I am. But everyone is on a
- 12:09country music right now, so why not use it as
- 12:11a big flashing reminder that country music is cool. This
- 12:14album is my way of taking country music back to
- 12:17what it was, the real damn deal. These kinds of
- 12:21proclamations a few years ago would have been taken as controversial,
- 12:24bellicose accusations against the country music industry, But thanks to
- 12:28guys like Braxton, Keith and the popular appeal he's created
- 12:31for traditional country, it's just the honest truth, says Saving
- 12:35country Music. Braxton has been paying his dues, refining his
- 12:39craft and writing, and now it's finally time to strike
- 12:42out big. His debut album comes highly anticipated next, Alan
- 12:48Jackson gets into the festival business with new event. No
- 12:53Alan Jackson will not be performing his sold out farewell
- 12:56show on June twenty seventh at Nissan Stadium in Nashville
- 12:59is still scheduled to be his final official concert, but
- 13:03Alan Jackson is presenting a new festival down in Florida
- 13:06two weeks before his final show on June twelfth and
- 13:09thirteenth in West Palm Beach, called Alan Jackson's Five o'clock
- 13:13Somewhere Fest, It pairs some top mainstream names with some
- 13:17certified country legends and gives it all a bit of
- 13:20a Southern latitude twist. Alan Jackson fans won't need to
- 13:24be told that his song five o'clock Somewhere from two
- 13:27thousand and three was one of his bigger hits, and
- 13:30it happens to be that the video was filmed in
- 13:32West Palm Beach, where Jackson also used to own a home.
- 13:35I've gotten to enjoy so many experiences at my concerts
- 13:38over the years as Jackson. I'm not touring anymore, but
- 13:41I like the idea of still being able to give
- 13:43people an opportunity to have a good time and enjoy
- 13:46some great country music while they do. Headlining the festival
- 13:50will be the one and only Ella Langley, who's choosing
- 13:52Texas is setting records left and right. She will be
- 13:55joined by Old Dominion as well as Jimmy Buffett's Coral
- 13:59Reefer Band. To expand on the beach theme, the event
- 14:02will happen at the Palms Beach's Waterfront Commons right on
- 14:05the Water. Other performers include Clint Black, John Anderson, Shenandoah,
- 14:10Rodney Atkins, Dylan Scott, Alan Stone, Jimmy Buffett That's Jammy Buffett,
- 14:15with comedian Dusty Slay also appearing. Alan Jackson's longtime tour manager.
- 14:21Nathan Bow is also the CEO of concert promoter Peachtree Entertainment,
- 14:25who is the promoter behind the new festival. It seems
- 14:28like the festival is a way to keep Alan Jackson's
- 14:30name alive in the live space, even if he's not
- 14:33any longer performing at Peachtree. We focus on creating real,
- 14:37memorable experiences, and this one is special because it's rooted
- 14:41in Allan's story and a place he's always loved. Nathan
- 14:43Bow says, it appears their hope is this will be
- 14:47an annual event. I mean, even if Allan doesn't perform,
- 14:50perhaps he'll at least appear. For more informission information, tickets
- 14:54and packages, visit five o'clock Somewhere fest dot com. Now
- 14:59we push our way over to people dot com Country.
- 15:02With the first article dated March thirty first, Winona, Gretchen Wilson,
- 15:07Kimberly Perry and Moore joined together for Stars studied Tammy
- 15:10Wynette tribute in Nashville. The spirit of Tammy Wynette is
- 15:15still alive and well In Nashville. On Monday, March thirtieth,
- 15:19over two dozen artists took to the iconic Ryman Auditorium
- 15:22stage to honor the late Wynette, who died in nineteen
- 15:25ninety eight at just fifty five years old, for a
- 15:28concert build the first Lady of Country music, Tammy Wynette
- 15:32Forever Yours. Over the course of roughly two and a
- 15:35half hours, fans were enchanted by a medley of the
- 15:37late singers hits performed by artists who have all drawn
- 15:41inspiration from her significant impact on the genre and but beyond.
- 15:46To lead things off, a stunning piano opening piece from
- 15:48Jason Coleman gave fans the perfect appetizer for Kimberly Perry's
- 15:52performance of Wynette's nineteen sixty seven hit I Don't Want
- 15:56to Play House. This was immediately followed by Wynette and
- 15:59George Jones daughter Georgette Jones appearing on stage. The country
- 16:03legend's namesake shared, I know that Mom would want us
- 16:06to all thank you her fans because you have supported
- 16:09her through decades of her passion for music. She loved
- 16:13you all so much and you were there for her.
- 16:15She then performed from mother's fan favorite track, he Loves
- 16:18Me All the Way. One iconic name top to or
- 16:22tapped to honor Wenette that evening was Canadian country magnet
- 16:25Terry Clark. Upon taking to the microphone, she told the crowd,
- 16:29I chose this song because it was sassy and it
- 16:31was strong. If I was ever lucky enough to grace
- 16:34the same stage as this iconic woman. She then belted
- 16:37out a rendition of your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad
- 16:40to thunderous applause. Though Lessinda Williams, who was originally built
- 16:44to attend, was unable to make the performance, fans were
- 16:46still treated to a myriad of major up and coming
- 16:49stars during the tribute show. When one owner took the stage,
- 16:53accompanied by a standing ovation, she made it known just
- 16:56how much Whyette means to her. I met Tammy in
- 16:58nineteen eighty four. He handed us our first award, the
- 17:01Horizon Ward at the CMA's, and we quickly became family.
- 17:06She used to cook for me on her bus. So missus, Tammy, Wynette,
- 17:09You're my queen, she shared before performing Woman to woman.
- 17:13Standout moments from what followed included the War Entreaty joining
- 17:16together for a Wynette Jones classic Golden Ring, and singer
- 17:20Michael Trotter Junior quipping I'm no George Jones, but I
- 17:23get in trouble like him a little bit. Another chill
- 17:27inducing performance from the Ryman Wynette tribute was Cherry Valley
- 17:30creator Carter Faith performing an ethereal rendition of the nineteen
- 17:34seventy three classic Another Lonely Song. Faith shared that every
- 17:39time I go on stage, I pray to God and
- 17:41Tammy Wynette. In a full circle moment that comes just
- 17:44weeks after her shared display alongside Wynette was unveiled as
- 17:48a part of the American Currents exhibit at the Country
- 17:51Music Hall of Fame. Temperatures rose when Caitlin Buttz took
- 17:55the microphone, diving right into a cover of Another Chance.
- 17:58The singer songwriter from oklahom Elma, who just finished supporting
- 18:01Lady Wilson on Australia and New Zealand leg of her
- 18:04Whirlwind tour, engaged with the crowd and floated across the
- 18:08stage while interpreting the track's timeless lyrics about independence and empowerment.
- 18:14Even Gretchen Wilson, who was also tapped to take part
- 18:16in the show, made sure to note the incredible honor
- 18:19she felt having been asked to participate. So thankful to
- 18:22be here tonight, so thankful to have been chosen as
- 18:25one of the very few to honor the great Tammy Wynette.
- 18:28She then performed Wynette's Till I Get It Right, also
- 18:31eliciting a standing ovation. Other stars who were asked to
- 18:35perform renditions of Wynette's hits for special showcase included Katie Pruitt,
- 18:40Tammy Nielson, Valerie June Troubadour, Blue j C. Valasquez, Brittany Spencer,
- 18:45Jimmy O'Neil, The Isaacs, Patty Griffin, Mandy Barnett, Debbie Boone,
- 18:49k T Tunsdale, Lourie Morgan, and Randy Hawser. To close
- 18:53out the legendary evening, Hearts, Ann Wilson treated attendees to
- 18:56a rendition of Wynette's timeless hit track stand By Your Man.
- 19:01The event came just a week ahead of the twenty
- 19:03eighth anniversary of Onett's death, which occurred on April seventh,
- 19:06nineteen ninety eight, as a result of a blood clot
- 19:09in her lung that followed a history of chronic health issues.
- 19:12Though the singer left the world nearly three decades ago,
- 19:15she continues to inspire generations of emerging, existing, and well
- 19:19established artists who seek solace and inspiration in the chronicles
- 19:23of intense, emotional hardship and exuberant love that she left behind. Next,
- 19:30Parker McCollum says he doesn't give a shoot one bit
- 19:33that his streaming numbers dipped with latest album. Parker McCollum
- 19:38couldn't care less that his streaming numbers dipped with his
- 19:41latest album. Parker McCollum, the country star's twenty twenty five
- 19:45self titled album, has so far reached about one hundred
- 19:47and two million Spotify streams, significantly lower than his first
- 19:51two major label albums. Twenty twenty one's Golden Chained Cowboy
- 19:56has raked in about four hundred and fifty eight million streams.
- 19:59In twenty two twenty threes, Never Enough has about three
- 20:02hundred and forty nine million streams. According to Korb, a
- 20:06lot of people have mentioned that to me, compared to
- 20:08my last two records, Parker McCollum is not even remotely
- 20:11close to the same performance numbers wise, but column thirty
- 20:15three said in a recent episode of a ten Year
- 20:17Town with Troy Cartwright podcast, and I will tell you
- 20:20with one hundred percent honesty, Troy, I don't care one
- 20:24bit or for one reason. I love that record so much,
- 20:27he continued, going into it, I was like, man, this saint, Now,
- 20:30this record's for me. When approaching his latest album, McCollum
- 20:34shared he was desperate to feel uncomfortable again. I was like,
- 20:38do I go make another record like gold Chain Cowboy
- 20:41and never Enough? Or is it time for the next thing.
- 20:44The answer took me a long time to admit to myself.
- 20:47I said, Hey, I've got to go back to myself
- 20:49in a corner again and find out what the hell
- 20:51I made of as a songwriter and as a singer
- 20:55and as an artist. The Pretty Heart singer admitted that
- 20:59he was feeling out at the start of creating Parker
- 21:01mccollumn and was craving something new. I don't want to
- 21:05just do it to do it, he said. If I'm
- 21:07not writing songs I love, and songs that I think
- 21:09can stand the test of time, that are good for
- 21:12songwriting and good for country music, then I don't want
- 21:15to just be putting out other stuff before I could
- 21:18ever really consider not doing music anymore. I'm going to
- 21:21give every single thing I possibly have to this record,
- 21:24column explained, and for the first time I really did.
- 21:28I'm going to be one hundred percent Parker McCollum, the
- 21:30singer songwriter in the studio. And I've never done that. Man,
- 21:34I've always been just kind of reserved about it. He added.
- 21:37I had to go make that record to fall in
- 21:38love with this thing again. Now let's grab a FOURK
- 21:42and spoon and head over to Taste of Country, where
- 21:46Morgan Wallen says he almost changed some of his songs
- 21:50due to label pushback. Morgan Wallin says he faced all
- 21:54kinds of pushback from his label when he first began
- 21:57incorporating hip hop and trap beats into his music. By
- 22:00the way, this article dated March thirty first, so much
- 22:03so that he once dialed back that production on an
- 22:06unreleased album, replacing it with a more classically country sound.
- 22:10But then versions of the songs began making their ways
- 22:13to fan's ears, and Wallin started realizing that a genre
- 22:16blending approach was working for his listeners. According to Holler,
- 22:20Wallin shared this story and the official zine he released
- 22:24to go along with his I'm the Problem album. The
- 22:27project came out in twenty twenty five, but it's not
- 22:29clear whether the story dates from when he was making
- 22:32the I'm the Problem or one of its predecessors, such
- 22:35as twenty twenty three's One Thing at a Time, which
- 22:38was the album that most clearly established Wallin's hip hop influences.
- 22:42At first, there was all kinds of pushback from the label,
- 22:44and we changed the songs with beats on them to
- 22:47make them sound more country, the singer explains. But a
- 22:50few versions of the original songs got out. People would notice,
- 22:53and I could see that people were gravitating toward it.
- 22:56That gave him the push he needed to embrace the
- 22:58more genre bending sound on his studio material. I thought,
- 23:01I love it, these people love it, and I can
- 23:04try this again on the next record. It started working,
- 23:06he notes. Most prominent of those is Miami, the reinterpretation
- 23:10of Keith Whitley's Miami My Amy that expands the song
- 23:15into a remix featuring Lil Wayne and Rick Ross. Elsewhere
- 23:19in his zene, Wallin says that he'll always keep a
- 23:21more traditional country sound on his albums, and he appreciates
- 23:25being able to incorporate genre variety. There aren't really two
- 23:29songs in my set that sound alike, the singer details,
- 23:32I'm super thankful that I don't have to get up
- 23:34there and just sing all straight down the middle country
- 23:36songs every single time that I start a chord. Next,
- 23:40a list from Tastes of Country sad songs that sound
- 23:43happier than they are in most good country songs. There's
- 23:48a little more to the lyrics than meet the eye,
- 23:51but these eighteen songs go above and beyond the genre's
- 23:54mandate for a well thought out lyric. They're so in
- 23:57depth that they have meaning that's completely different from their sound.
- 24:00These songs sound happy and fun, says Taste of Country,
- 24:03but if you listen to the lyrics, they're pretty dark.
- 24:07Martina McBride's Independence Day sounds so proudly patriotic. Sarah Palin
- 24:11and Sean Hannity have both used it as a walk
- 24:14on song, but if they listen to the lyrics a
- 24:16little closer, they might have gone with something different. Independence
- 24:20Day is really about overcoming domestic violence by setting fire
- 24:24to a house with your abuser still inside, and we
- 24:27can't forget Jimmy Buffett's tropical mega hit Margheritaville. Sounds like
- 24:31a care free vacation song. Right, even have some neighborhoods
- 24:35named after that? Well, listen to the lyrics a little closer.
- 24:39So what we've got here is sixteen more sad songs
- 24:42that sound happy, but they're not. Tim McGraw's just to
- 24:46See You Smile. Tim mcgraul will do anything to make
- 24:49the woman he loves happy, adorable right wrong. Just to
- 24:52See You Smile starts out innocently enough, with McGrath's scrounging
- 24:56up money and even changing cities to be with the
- 24:58woman he loves, but eventually what she wants is to
- 25:01not be with him anymore, and he even gives her that,
- 25:04smiling through the tears. Dirk's Bentley Drunk on a Plane.
- 25:08He may have got this seven thirty seven rockin like
- 25:11a G six, but at what cost? Drunk on a
- 25:13Plane is a fun song to sing, too, but the
- 25:15song wouldn't make sense without one big heartache. Bentley's character
- 25:19is on his honeymoon, Sam's bride who seems like she
- 25:21left him at the altar. Laurie Morgan except for Monday,
- 25:26things are looking up. In the first verse of the song,
- 25:29Laurie Morgan's moving on after relationship ends and she's on
- 25:31a big role now. Well except for on Monday's, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays,
- 25:35Fridays and Saturdays. Party Mode from Dustin Lynch. Dustin's girlfriend
- 25:41left him, and that's not even the saddest part of
- 25:43the happy sounding song. He's ready to turn up the
- 25:45music and liquor and turn down the self reflection and
- 25:48emotional processing. Watching Airplanes from Gary Allen. Gary Allen's Watching
- 25:54Airplanes got that feel good sound of heartland country rock,
- 25:57but the lyrics are actually sort of a bummer. You
- 26:01mentioned Independence Day for Martina McBride. Bruce Springsteen's Born in
- 26:05the USA. Okay, it's technically a rock song, but it's
- 26:08gone a lot of country airplay charts and fans playlists.
- 26:12From growing up in a dead man's town to joining
- 26:14the military to go and kill the yellow Man, to
- 26:16coming home a veteran and finding a thankless welcome. This
- 26:19song is much bleaker than the patriotic anthem it's often
- 26:22painted to be. We mentioned Margueritaville from Jimmy Buffett, How
- 26:26about Johnny Cash? Has I Got Stripes? If you're looking
- 26:29for a plucky sing along about getting locked up in
- 26:32the pokey well, look no further. Keith Urbans Somewhere in
- 26:36My Car. Urban's known for feel good guitar riffs and
- 26:39windows down pop country, and Somewhere in My Car is
- 26:42no exception. But this time around he's reliving a memory
- 26:45of a long gone lover and envisioning the care free
- 26:48times he wishes he could get back. Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
- 26:52from Luke Bryant seems like a classic Luke Bryan party anthem,
- 26:56even when you realize that he's talking about us Seized
- 26:58the night once and never again type of hook up.
- 27:02Merle Haggard's I Think I'll just stay here and drink.
- 27:05It's a groovy, bluesy country hit about staying home and
- 27:08drowning your relationship troubles in Booze. El Paso from Marty
- 27:12Robbin's nothing like a classic country and Western song, or
- 27:16nothing as unexpectedly depressing as the end of Marty Robin's
- 27:19El Paso. After murdering someone over a girl and fleeing lawman,
- 27:23Robins comes back into town one last time to see
- 27:26the Woman he Loves. Ugly lights from Miranda Lambert came
- 27:30out on Miranda Lambert's post divorce album The Weight of
- 27:33These Wings, so it's easy to imagine that it came
- 27:35from her heartbreak after splitting with Blake Shelton. Morgan Wallen's
- 27:40Live in the Dream Morgan Wallen makes the dream of
- 27:42country music stardom seem well pretty lonely in this song.
- 27:47How about Reba McIntyre's Consider Me Gone? Consider Me Gone
- 27:51sounds like a classic McIntyre empowerment anthem, and it is,
- 27:54but this time around, it's for a sad reason. McIntyre
- 27:58sings about being in a relationship it's over without ever
- 28:01officially ending. Other sad songs that sound happy. Roger Miller
- 28:05Dang Me. Roger Miller sure is singing in a spring
- 28:09with his step and dang Me, which makes the lyrics
- 28:11even more jarring. Dang Me, dang me. They ought to
- 28:13take a rope and hang me, He sings in the chorus,
- 28:17Zack Top, I'll never lie. Zack Top is doing just
- 28:20fine after his breakup, Thanks for asking, and I never lie.
- 28:23He swears up and down that he sleeps great, wakes
- 28:25up happy to each new day. And he's even got
- 28:28a long distance model girlfriend. Don't question what he's saying,
- 28:31after all, he never lies well. This concludes the reading
