- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Question of the day, how do you know when you're proud of
- 0:33yourself? I mean, how do you determine it?
- 0:36So as I look around at myself and I say, OK, am I proud of
- 0:42what I achieved? You know, this all came about
- 0:44because we were driving in, in the, in the truck and my husband
- 0:47said to me, you know, are you, are you happy with everything
- 0:51that's here? Are you happy with everything
- 0:53that we've gotten done? And I said, yes, I'm happy, but
- 0:56it doesn't mean I'm satisfied. And of course that, you know, we
- 1:00started laughing about that because I have that issue of am
- 1:03I satisfied with something? And I don't believe that, you
- 1:06know, I think that's a part of the, the human process is that
- 1:09when something happens and you feel good about it, then you're
- 1:12going to grow and, and then you're going to grow further.
- 1:14And it's just the nature of what happens.
- 1:16So satisfied. It's a it's a tough word for me
- 1:19because I always see things better and growing and expanding
- 1:22and changing and that makes me, you know, excited.
- 1:25So when you say proud, it kind of throws me off.
- 1:28Like, am I, am I proud of myself?
- 1:30And I regularly tell my clients how proud I am of them.
- 1:34And I recognize that as adults, how often does someone tell you
- 1:37that they're proud of you? It's not often.
- 1:40But how often do we tell ourselves that we're proud of
- 1:43ourselves? And I couldn't answer that
- 1:44question for myself when I thought of this last night.
- 1:47I was like, interesting, I can't answer that.
- 1:49Am I proud of this? And I look around and all we
- 1:54have accomplished all that. I've done all those things.
- 1:56And am I proud of it when I pause and I say it, yes.
- 1:59But I have to push myself to think about it.
- 2:01And I don't think that that's the answer.
- 2:03I don't think that we should be that way.
- 2:04I think we should ask ourselves more on a more regular basis, if
- 2:09you will, if you're, am I proud of myself?
- 2:11Was is that a proud moment? Does that, does that make me
- 2:14proud of myself? And when you do that, it kind of
- 2:18puts you into this real internal process of thinking deeply
- 2:22about, you know, where do I show up well and where could I show
- 2:25up better? And I know for a fact, I mean,
- 2:28there's no question about it. We can always all show up
- 2:31better. And we can always all show up in
- 2:34a more loving, attentive, you know, being present with people
- 2:39because life is life is hard when you're a human because
- 2:42you're always being pulled in different directions.
- 2:45And especially when you are a growth mindset person, you are
- 2:49always moving, always, you know, working towards something.
- 2:53And there's nothing wrong with that.
- 2:55In fact, it's actually really healthy because it keeps you out
- 2:58of your head and out of the problems.
- 3:00But sometimes to stop and pause and ask that critical question,
- 3:05pivotal question, because if you were proud of yourself, then you
- 3:08might want to do more to be more proud of yourself and more proud
- 3:11of yourself. But it's a question you have to
- 3:13ask. So when's the last time you
- 3:16asked it? And and if you did ask it, what
- 3:18would be your answer? You know, when how long has it
- 3:21been? Now, here's even further because
- 3:23this is where my head is right now.
- 3:25OK, Make a list of the things you're proud of.
- 3:27That's really hard. That is really a hard thing to
- 3:32do because you're going to come up with the first few pretty
- 3:35quickly, But then you're going to sit and you're going to be
- 3:37like, I don't know, well, I could have done better.
- 3:39And then and then judgements going to be driving your bus and
- 3:41she's going to be sheer here. However you label it is going to
- 3:45start saying, OK, I don't know. I don't know if I like that.
- 3:49I don't know if that's something I should be proud of.
- 3:53You know, like I sat there and I was like, OK, I've got all this
- 3:57fabric down in the garden. Am I proud of it?
- 4:00No, I'm I mean, I'm happy I I got it down.
- 4:04And then I had this epiphany, OK, but I did the majority of it
- 4:08by myself. So can I be proud of that, that
- 4:13I worked that that hard that I did that 10 foot roll and I did
- 4:17it all by myself because everybody else was busy.
- 4:19So I should be proud of that. And I had to stop and really
- 4:23coach myself into being proud of it because it was hard.
- 4:27I mean, I tore my shoulders up doing it, but guess what?
- 4:30I got it done. And the fact is I should be
- 4:34proud of it, but I wasn't letting myself be proud of it.
- 4:36And that's the part. And I and it wasn't like I was
- 4:39sliding myself. It was just that you don't run
- 4:41around going. I'm proud of that.
- 4:43Oh, that made me proud. Oh, that was a good moment.
- 4:45I'm really proud of that. No, we don't do that.
- 4:47What we do is we were like, we move right on to the next thing.
- 4:50OK, Well, yeah, but I still have this, like, I've got these
- 4:53archways that I wanted to create.
- 4:55And of course, I had this idea that they were very expansive
- 4:58and big. And so that the the wire
- 5:00wouldn't stay bent. We had to bend these poles.
- 5:02My son and his friends bent these poles.
- 5:04And is it perfect? No.
- 5:07But it's so exciting because the boys did it for me, and they're
- 5:10all 16 and 16, and they were out here with me.
- 5:13We were all being eaten by bugs. We were all cracking up,
- 5:15laughing and trying to figure out how to make it work.
- 5:18And we did it and we got it. Is it perfectly beautiful?
- 5:22No, But it's perfect for me. And I'm like, oh, the flowers
- 5:25are going to grow up anyway and there's going to be cucumbers
- 5:28growing on them. And I should be proud of the
- 5:31fact that I didn't obsess on the fact that it had to be quote UN
- 5:35quote, picture perfect. It's just, it's, it's the way
- 5:38it's supposed to be with the boys doing it with me.
- 5:40And I'm proud of that now. But I had to stop and pause and
- 5:43force myself to face it that way.
- 5:46So what can you be proud of? What are you going to allow
- 5:49yourself to be proud of today? All right, my friends, go seek
- 5:52and I'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
