Transcript
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: So, what do we do when anxieties arise or worries start to creep in, right?
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: When life is lifing and it feels like there is way too much going on, way too much on my plate.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm glad you asked.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: So, on this episode of the High Level Wife podcast with me, Chelsea Holm, your hostess, I'm gonna share with you um something that I coach my wives inside High Level Wife all the time on, and something that I firsthand practice, um, especially right now, uh, as Wednesday is the day that the Packers come to pack up our house.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Um, honestly, I don't think it's gonna take that long.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I think it's only gonna take a couple days for them to pack up our whole house, and then everything should be packed up on the truck and on its way, I think, by Friday.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Um, no later than Friday.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So that's awesome.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: That gives us more time to get the house ready for our tenants to rent.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: So yay.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think it was yesterday, uh, yesterday sometime, or the day before, um, we we got the official date, right?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Because see, like everything in the military is contracted out.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Um, and so it's like you put your dates in, but then you actually have to work with whoever's contracted for the moving company.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And then they give you kind of like when you have someone coming to look at your HVAC system or your like V V cable stuff, right?
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Like they give you that window of these days, right?
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So, so not just the day during this window of time, but like this window of days.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And then as it gets closer, I think so it was 72 hours out, you get an email that says, like, this is the actual time that they're gonna show up.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And then as soon as I got that email, right, my Chelsea human brain wanted to freak out and look at the whole list of everything that I needed.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Now, mind you, we have been chipping away at this house, like, you know, in different phases, getting it decluttered, getting it organized, purging, um, just, you know, getting everything ready.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: But if you've never had packers come, there are things that they won't pack.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And the more organized you are, you know, the more you group things together that need to be packed together, the better it goes.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Now, I want to just give you a heads up.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Last time we moved, we PCS'd from California, there was some sort of misstep or miscommunication in when the actual moving company was showing up.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And they showed up a whole day ahead of schedule and we were not ready.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And so part of this is a do-not-pack room.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So everything that we're taking with us, we empty out a room, and then that becomes our do-not-pack room.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And um, I think I already shared this in the last episode.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: We actually have two do-not pack rooms because we need to have one room for the cat.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So that was in our basement.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: I had to get that, I got that ready today, and then um all the other things.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: And yesterday I watched Chat GPT and I was like, do some research.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: What are the top things that military families forget when they're PCSing and the packing company's coming?
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: And you know, and so then I pulled up that list, and then like looking at the list, I was like, oh my gosh, like wow, there's a lot more to do than I remembered, right?
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Hence the list, hence the fact that these are common things that military families forget, right?
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Like, for example, you have I think I shared this, you have to empty all of your trashes because they will literally put your whole trash can full of trash in a box and pack it up.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: You don't want that, okay?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: That's nasty.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: So, anyway, so then you know, but this whole time, like God has really just been teaching me that, like, just for today, ask, like, give us this day our daily bread.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: There's a reason why Jesus taught us to pray that way.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: It's because tomorrow has enough worries of its its own.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: We just need to focus on today, of asking the Lord, right?
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And tomorrow's not guaranteed, tomorrow's not promised.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: We only have today.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: I was just reading in James this morning, um, I think James chapter five, and it was talking about, you know, boasting about tomorrow and how that's such arrogance that we don't know what tomorrow holds, right?
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: We don't know, we don't know what the the next year holds.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Like how arrogant is that of us, you know.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: And so I've actually I've really been intentional about when people ask us about our plans, I'm saying, you know, if the Lord wills it, then this, if the Lord wills, then that, because I don't know.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the Lord's plans are, but I am obedient to him and will follow him, whatever that looks like, right?
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Um, and so anyway, so these feelings of anxiety were just popping up, right?
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: And so I wanted to share with you this process that I walked through firsthand of, you know, when the thoughts come in, like you have to take, um you have to take uh an audit of your thought life, right?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Because not all the thoughts that you think are in alignment with the heart of God, nor are they true.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: There are many that are only half truths, there are many that are very slightly twisted truths that will lead you down a road that you don't want to go, right?
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I had to take an assessment of my thought life just in these few days, and you know, what thoughts are feeding anxiety?
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: What thoughts are um not in alignment with Philippians 4:8 about thinking about things that are excellent and worthy and praiseworthy and pure, right?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: All those things.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and and then I had to root in God's truth of I will not boast of tomorrow, right?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Because I don't know, but God does, and I'm following him, and I am fully trusting that not only can I ask him to give me my daily, my daily bread, but I believe that he will, and I will receive it, right?
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: And I also know his Holy Spirit is upon me, and he's going to give me a double portion.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: So he's gonna give me exactly what I need, and so it's not magic.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Like if I just say a verse and then the thoughts just go away.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: No, a lot of times they will actually pick up, like there will be an uptick in these thoughts coming in, and I have to pick up that sword and wield it and slice them away, right?
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: And and keep doing that until stillness and peace remain.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: And so I I just I wanted to walk you through that process.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: So that process is doing an audit of your thought life, recognizing the thoughts that are not in alignment with what God says, going to His Word and anchoring in truth of what God actually says, and then continuing to practice intentionally, intentionally, diligently cutting down any thoughts that are not feeding your spirit.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: And that's the process, right?
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: And the more you do it, the easier it gets, the quicker you're able to see your thoughts that are not in alignment with God's word, the quicker you are to recognize the slight twists of truth and the half-truths, right?
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Because often these things don't come in as straight up bold-faced lies, right?
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Remember, Satan is uh is masquerades as an angel of light.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: But make no mistake, he is seeking to kill, steal, and destroy, right?
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And the easiest way is through the battleground of our mind.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: That's why Paul tells us in Romans 12, 1 and 2 to not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewal of our minds.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: This is a daily thing.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: I was just teaching in Ephesians chapter 4 today, uh, for our High Level Wife Bible study about putting off the old self, renewing our mind and putting on the new self.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Those are three commands, those are three actions, those are three calls to action, right?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: And that's part of the maturing process of chewing on the solid foods and moving forward in growth and maturity, right?
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: The the Christian life, being a disciple of Jesus is not, is not um a spectator sport.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: It is hands-on in action, working, striving to be pleasing to God, striving to fully surrender our hearts and our minds and our bodies to the will of God, right?
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Now don't get this confused with receiving the gift of grace, which is a gift, so that none can boast, right?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: But once we receive it, what do we do with it?
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: If you receive a gift, but you just are like yay, and then you go put it on the shelf, but you you never actually like open it.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Maybe you open it and you look at it, but then you put it back in the box and just leave on the shelf.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: If that's a sweater, how how is it gonna keep you warm?
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: How is it gonna protect you against the elements?
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Well, salvation is the same, yes, it's a free gift that we receive when we open, but we actually have to put it on.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: We have to put off the old self, renew our mind, and put on the new self.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: That's action.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Action is required.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: So this is just a little peek into my life.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: I even texted Zach uh last night and I was like, just pray for me because you know, anxiety is rising, overwhelm is trying to take root, but I refuse to feed that.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, thankfully he's actually coming home tonight.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: And so he'll have all day tomorrow to help me walk through the house and for us to really make sure we get everything that's not supposed to be packed into our do not touch room.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, really, that's the most important.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: And then just making sure like everything that shouldn't uh or needs to be like addressed, like emptying water, right, from dehumidifiers, like those kinds of things, right?
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Like all that stuff.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so I am so thankful that, you know, in in trusting the Lord, like the Lord provided, he gave me a double portion of making a way for my husband to come home sooner so that we could walk through this together.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Now, had that not happened, God would have still provided in a different way where we could have walked through the house, you know, through technology together, right?
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: But the point is not how God gives us a double portion or what the double portion is.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: The point is do you trust God?
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Do you trust God actually?
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Not just saying that you do, but actually where that peace in your heart guards your mind.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: That's the question I'll feel the next episode.
