- 0:00Speaker 1: We welcome you back inside the Yukon Men's Ice Hockey
- 0:03Speaker 1: Coaches Show here at Bear Smokehouse, Barbecue and downtown Hartford.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Adam Jardina with you were joined by sophomore forward Jake Richard.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Jake.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We're in the middle of an odd part of the schedule.
- 0:13Speaker 1: You had the bye weekend, then you just had a
- 0:15Speaker 1: game Friday, a couple of days off, then you played
- 0:17Speaker 1: bu The season ends with a midweek game against Vermont.
- 0:21Speaker 1: So for a season where you're so used to having
- 0:24Speaker 1: Friday Saturday games and then five days to get healthy
- 0:27Speaker 1: and get back at it, how is it navigating this
- 0:30Speaker 1: part of the schedule.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I kind of love it. I mean where yeah,
- 0:35Speaker 2: have you know a handful of game here, games here
- 0:38Speaker 2: in a short amount of days, and it's just like
- 0:42Speaker 2: like hockey, hockey, hockey, So it's I love it. I
- 0:45Speaker 2: mean I love playing these games. I know everyone else does.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So you know, I'm really excited.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Since it started January. You guys are nine two and
- 0:53Speaker 1: two coming out of that trip out to Milwaukee. Was
- 0:58Speaker 1: there any signs in your mind that this kind of
- 1:01Speaker 1: run was imminent and you guys are about to start
- 1:03Speaker 1: rolling like this?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean, I've believed in this team from the start.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I mean, I've seen it since day one, and I
- 1:12Speaker 2: think that, you know, we've kind of just been like
- 1:15Speaker 2: working towards our process all year long, you know, just
- 1:17Speaker 2: working on those details and you know, just believing in it,
- 1:21Speaker 2: not getting away from it. So yeah, I mean, I
- 1:24Speaker 2: knew that good things where we're going to come with
- 1:28Speaker 2: this team, and I'm glad to see see that we're
- 1:31Speaker 2: rolling right now, and I hope to keep it going.
- 1:34Speaker 1: It's funny that you say the word process because last
- 1:37Speaker 1: week coach cav talked about the fact that he has
- 1:40Speaker 1: the pairwise posted in the facility, either the locker room,
- 1:43Speaker 1: a lounge, whatever it is for you guys to look at.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And I think there are a lot of coaches that
- 1:47Speaker 1: would shy away from putting that up there, but also,
- 1:51Speaker 1: you know, they're so process oriented, but understanding in his words,
- 1:54Speaker 1: that manifesting your goals is something that's healthy and that
- 1:58Speaker 1: you should do. So what is it like to walk
- 2:01Speaker 1: in the facility, see those pairwise rankings up there and
- 2:04Speaker 1: know that the goal is one of the goals is
- 2:06Speaker 1: to make the program's first ever NCAA tournament, right, I.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Mean, I think every single one of us looks at
- 2:12Speaker 2: the pairwise after every game. It looks at it every day.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So I mean it's not not something that we really
- 2:18Speaker 2: shy away from, but I mean it's something that we've
- 2:21Speaker 2: talked about since since day one. Is we want to
- 2:24Speaker 2: make it to the national tournament. So I mean we're
- 2:28Speaker 2: focused on you know, we're taking one day at a
- 2:31Speaker 2: time here, but I mean at the end of the day,
- 2:33Speaker 2: where's it's good to have those goals and know what
- 2:36Speaker 2: you're working towards.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So let's talk about Friday night last time, you guys
- 2:40Speaker 1: took the items against Maine. Before we have you take
- 2:43Speaker 1: us through the game winning goal that you scored. The
- 2:46Speaker 1: overtime began with a two plus minute shift, which obviously
- 2:50Speaker 1: is an ideal, But towards the end of that shift,
- 2:53Speaker 1: once it's already getting to ninety seconds minute forty five,
- 2:57Speaker 1: what was physically happening for you out there when you
- 3:00Speaker 1: were just trying to make sure that Maine didn't score
- 3:02Speaker 1: the game winner?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, just kind of weather the storm there.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But three on three is something that we work on
- 3:10Speaker 2: in practice and it's you know, something that you know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: we feel comfortable with. So I mean bit hiring out there,
- 3:21Speaker 2: you know, being out there for so long, but it's
- 3:24Speaker 2: nice to be able to you know, leather that storm
- 3:26Speaker 2: and eventually get a whistle.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Maine got three line changes while you, Huddy and
- 3:32Speaker 1: Trey were gliding around out there by the end just
- 3:35Speaker 1: trying to weather it. Uh So, yeah, you got the
- 3:38Speaker 1: whistle and you got off the ice with the with
- 3:41Speaker 1: the overtime goal, the rebound comes to you like that,
- 3:45Speaker 1: it's a split second, but there was an element of
- 3:47Speaker 1: patience for you. So how do you toe that line
- 3:49Speaker 1: as that pluck is there where it's okay, I got
- 3:52Speaker 1: to score this game winning goal. The goalie is scrambling
- 3:55Speaker 1: back into position, but you still have a pretty good
- 3:57Speaker 1: chunk of net to shoot at.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's not something that you really think of.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I mean, it's just like something that you do thousands
- 4:06Speaker 2: of times in practice and growing up, just you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: catching a puck and putting it into the net. So
- 4:12Speaker 2: I mean, I wouldn't say that there was any like
- 4:14Speaker 2: real thought about it, just you know, like natural instincts.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So like just something that I've done in practice over
- 4:24Speaker 2: and over again and just kind of took over there.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I just watched the video again and I didn't catch
- 4:31Speaker 1: it in real time. Did you hit the dab as
- 4:33Speaker 1: your celebrations? Is that what you did? Okay? Is that
- 4:36Speaker 1: a team thing? Where that comes from? Besides ten years ago?
- 4:41Speaker 2: I've always thought it was kind of funny and I
- 4:43Speaker 2: wanted to do it, And then when we were at Maine,
- 4:46Speaker 2: one of their guys did it after they scored too,
- 4:48Speaker 2: so I thought it would be kind of funny to
- 4:50Speaker 2: give it back to him a little bit.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Jake for Sure joined us here on the Yukon Men's
- 4:55Speaker 1: Ice Hockey Coaches Show. In the last six games, the
- 4:58Speaker 1: line of you, Hodey, Joey Muldowney combined for thirteen goals
- 5:02Speaker 1: in those six games, thirty one points. What's it like
- 5:05Speaker 1: for the group of you, the three of you, to
- 5:07Speaker 1: be playing like that right now?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I love playing with them. They're both
- 5:13Speaker 2: like two great players, and it's it's been a lot
- 5:17Speaker 2: of fun. But I mean there are two guys that, like,
- 5:20Speaker 2: we hang out together all the time and like all
- 5:22Speaker 2: we want to do is win, So I mean it's
- 5:24Speaker 2: really special to be able to play with those guys.
- 5:27Speaker 1: What did it mean when you found out for sure
- 5:30Speaker 1: that Shandor was coming back this year for his fifth year.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it was it was huge. I was
- 5:37Speaker 2: really really hoping and I was trying to work, like
- 5:40Speaker 2: talking to him about trying to get him back, doing
- 5:43Speaker 2: anything I could. But no, it's huge. Him and John
- 5:46Speaker 2: both coming back have been a huge, huge part of
- 5:49Speaker 2: this team and a huge reason that, like we're having
- 5:52Speaker 2: the success that we are having.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Last one before we let you go for games to
- 5:57Speaker 1: go in the regular season, including tomorrow against Boston University,
- 6:00Speaker 1: And you know, despite the success that the team has
- 6:03Speaker 1: been enjoying, is there an area that you're still saying, Okay,
- 6:06Speaker 1: we if we want to a make a run through
- 6:08Speaker 1: Hockey East postseason and then b make a run to
- 6:12Speaker 1: a potential NCAA frozen four, what's the area that you
- 6:16Speaker 1: still see as an area of improvement for this group?
- 6:20Speaker 2: I think just working on our process, Like I said,
- 6:23Speaker 2: I mean every day, just come to the rink every
- 6:25Speaker 2: day and getting better, trying to improve on everything and
- 6:30Speaker 2: then trying to find out all the little details. But
- 6:32Speaker 2: I mean, we're just trying to take it one day
- 6:34Speaker 2: at a time, So just focusing on practice today and
- 6:37Speaker 2: getting better today and then you know, focusing on be
- 6:40Speaker 2: you tomorrow, but just really trying to focus on one
- 6:43Speaker 2: day at a time and getting better every single day
- 6:45Speaker 2: and working towards those goals every single day.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Jake, good luck tomorro against Bu.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Thanks so much for the time, Thank you, thanks for
- 6:52Speaker 2: having me all right.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Coming up next, it's freshman defenseman Tray Scott is the
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yukon Hockey coach. It show continues from Bear's Smokehouse. Barbie,
- 7:00Speaker 1: thank you. This is Yukon men's ice hockey from Learfield,
