- 0:00Speaker 1: Why to have you with us on a Friday afternoon.
- 0:02Speaker 1: This was I don't know, the first week in two
- 0:09Speaker 1: or three where we were here all five days during
- 0:13Speaker 1: the week.
- 0:16Speaker 2: And we'll be the last time for quite a bit.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's a busy next couple of months, it is.
- 0:23Speaker 1: And we're into the holiday season as well, so that
- 0:26Speaker 1: also alters the schedule a little bit. We will be
- 0:30Speaker 1: here Monday and Tuesday next week, and then I'll be
- 0:34Speaker 1: up in Arlington with the UIL State High School Football
- 0:39Speaker 1: Championships on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Cam will be here throughout
- 0:44Speaker 1: the rest of the week. Are you soloing or is
- 0:46Speaker 1: Zimble involved in this deal?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Do we have this next week?
- 0:49Speaker 2: I think Wednesday and Friday I'll be here. Thursday will
- 0:54Speaker 2: be the simile hours.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Okay, all right, all right, So that'll be happening next week.
- 1:00Speaker 1: And then, of course the long Horns played football a
- 1:02Speaker 1: week from tomorrow. Eight days away from kick always gets
- 1:05Speaker 1: a feeling like we're back in August to get eight
- 1:08Speaker 1: days a countdown the kickoff because there was this downtime
- 1:12Speaker 1: in between games and the log Worns have their college
- 1:16Speaker 1: football playoff contest at home at Daryl K. Royal Texas
- 1:21Speaker 1: Memorial Stadium against the Clemson Tigers. First ever meeting on
- 1:26Speaker 1: the football field between Clemson and Texas. In fact, it's
- 1:31Speaker 1: the first time I will have called any athletic contest
- 1:36Speaker 1: between Texas and Clemson. You think about that. Basketball hasn't
- 1:40Speaker 1: played them since I think nineteen ninety. It was a
- 1:42Speaker 1: couple of yearsfore I got on the broadcast. Women's basketball
- 1:46Speaker 1: has not met them. Baseball almost a couple of times
- 1:51Speaker 1: in OMF the College World Series, but it didn't happen,
- 1:56Speaker 1: and so I didn't. I haven't called a an athletic
- 2:02Speaker 1: encounter between Texas and Clemson. So that'll be and it'll
- 2:05Speaker 1: be their first time ever meeting on the football field,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and that will be next Saturday afternoon. Three o'clock is
- 2:11Speaker 1: the kickoff time or Coverage on AM thirteen Under the
- 2:14Speaker 1: Zone begins with Longhorne Game Day, Cameron Parker, Mike Hardball, Harge,
- 2:23Speaker 1: Mark Henry All out along Bevo Boulevard at the Windship
- 2:28Speaker 1: Circle there in the hook the hangout.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You'll be back in your regular spot, right, yeah, we
- 2:33Speaker 2: will back in the winship circle. Food trucks, Big Bertha,
- 2:36Speaker 2: Bevo Boulevard, all that. Myself Hardball, Mark Henry, gonna have
- 2:40Speaker 2: some special guests on. It's gonna be fun. It's gonna
- 2:42Speaker 2: be a real fun show. First ever college football playoff
- 2:46Speaker 2: home game since its expansion, so it's gonna be a
- 2:50Speaker 2: fun day. Of course. You know, it begins Friday night
- 2:52Speaker 2: and then Saturday Texas plays, so it's gonna be quite
- 2:55Speaker 2: the atmosphere. I'm excited to see what DKR will be
- 2:59Speaker 2: like because I think for the first time this season,
- 3:01Speaker 2: I'll actually be in my seat for this game. I
- 3:04Speaker 2: have not been able to attend the Texas football home
- 3:07Speaker 2: game yet this year, not working, So I'm excited for that.
- 3:10Speaker 2: You've sat in the press box. You spotted for me.
- 3:13Speaker 2: What a couple of times you spotted for Westwood One?
- 3:17Speaker 2: So uh you were you were working? Yeah, I can
- 3:20Speaker 2: now get the heckle and you know, screaming for arts
- 3:24Speaker 2: to come in. You know, all to be a regular,
- 3:27Speaker 2: regular annoying Texas. Okay, you and your dad going? I
- 3:31Speaker 2: think so if you Portugal, I don't know, he may
- 3:35Speaker 2: just stay there. I mean I I have not heard
- 3:38Speaker 2: from this man at all, so I don't know what's
- 3:41Speaker 2: going on himself. He is, he is posting on Instagram.
- 3:44Speaker 2: So I know he's alive, but you know he's he's
- 3:47Speaker 2: living the single bachelor life in Portugal. All right, If
- 3:52Speaker 2: anyone's listening in Portugal, watch out for a white bald
- 3:55Speaker 2: man who's probably wearing some sort of Texas longhorning gear.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Right now.
- 3:59Speaker 2: This guy, he's got a Onhoe shirt on for sure.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Well right now, right now, it would be about ten
- 4:05Speaker 1: o'clock at night there.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so but who knows.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah, a text message from our on our hotline, Craig,
- 4:14Speaker 2: when's the last December game in dk R? Do you
- 4:16Speaker 2: know for Texas football? Obviously on high school games because.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Well yeah, but for Texas when they played Texas A
- 4:26Speaker 1: and M on Saturday. I want to say, is nineteen
- 4:32Speaker 1: ninety the Shock the Nation tour? That might have been
- 4:35Speaker 1: the first or second of December. I'm not one hundred
- 4:39Speaker 1: percent certain about that.
- 4:42Speaker 2: But here was that nineteen December second, nineteen ninety five,
- 4:46Speaker 2: sixteen to six.
- 4:47Speaker 3: That was in College Station.
- 4:49Speaker 1: That was the final That was the final ever Southwest
- 4:53Speaker 1: Conference game played ever. That was when Ricky Williams went
- 4:57Speaker 1: for like one sixty four, James Brown had a severely
- 4:59Speaker 1: sprained ankle. They beat A and M to win the
- 5:01Speaker 1: final Southwest Conference title.
- 5:04Speaker 3: That was December. That's the one.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm that's when Mark Berry was the stop of the
- 5:09Speaker 1: goal line Texas beating A and M to win the
- 5:11Speaker 1: Southwest Conference title. Our good friend Brian Jones was on
- 5:14Speaker 1: that team that was the Shock the Nation tour. So
- 5:18Speaker 1: that's December first of ninety. Has there been a home
- 5:22Speaker 1: game in December since then?
- 5:24Speaker 3: I don't think so. I don't. I don't. I don't
- 5:27Speaker 3: think the calendar.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I mean, we you know, we just missed December by
- 5:30Speaker 1: one day this year on the deal since it's all
- 5:32Speaker 1: about how that calendar falls. So I don't. I don't
- 5:35Speaker 1: think there's been another one. I think December first of ninety.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I was in the studio that day. I was a
- 5:40Speaker 1: studio anchor from Ada through ninety one. That was Brad
- 5:43Speaker 1: Sham and Bill Schoning the call that day in nineteen ninety,
- 5:49Speaker 1: so I think that was the last time they that
- 5:54Speaker 1: they had that. Congratulations to Kelvin Banks and to Jade Baron.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Calvin Banks kind of finished the sweep of all the
- 6:04Speaker 1: offensive line awards or the Lightnman Awards. He won the Lombardi,
- 6:08Speaker 1: he won the Outlet, he won that other offensive Line Award.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So it was a clean sweep through all of that
- 6:16Speaker 1: for Calvin Banks. And so congratulations to Calvin for winning
- 6:23Speaker 1: all of those. Now, congratulations to Jade Baron and Jade
- 6:33Speaker 1: winning the Thorpe Award and the local sports cast all
- 6:37Speaker 1: had very similar themes.
- 6:38Speaker 3: It was.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I guess all the campaigning worked, and it almost made
- 6:42Speaker 1: it sound like Jade was doing the campaign. He didn't
- 6:44Speaker 1: do that. Somebody else created those T shirts that said,
- 6:49Speaker 1: you know, uh, Jada for Thorpe. You know that that thing.
- 6:55Speaker 1: He didn't start that. Somebody else started that. And his
- 6:59Speaker 1: secondary team mates like Michael Taff and Andrew mccooba and
- 7:02Speaker 1: others all were kind of carrying the banner for Ja
- 7:06Speaker 1: day and when he gave his thank you and you
- 7:11Speaker 1: really pegged it yesterday him when you said that that
- 7:14Speaker 1: college Football Award show has changed. Used to be a
- 7:16Speaker 1: big hoity twity banquet in Orlando. It's not like that anymore.
- 7:19Speaker 1: They were from the studio and then the the award
- 7:22Speaker 1: winners are in their hometowns. And some of that they
- 7:27Speaker 1: might have felt had to do with the postseason college
- 7:30Speaker 1: football season. I don't know, but both Kevin Banks and
- 7:34Speaker 1: Jady Baron were in town last name, and so it
- 7:41Speaker 1: was it was really cool that they got a chance
- 7:46Speaker 1: to celebrate that with their teammates. And Jada had Michael
- 7:51Speaker 1: Taff and Andrew mccooba behind him as he was talking to
- 7:56Speaker 1: I think it was Jen Lauda who was doing it
- 7:58Speaker 1: for ESPN part as he was talking to her about
- 8:02Speaker 1: what it meant to him, and I would say it,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you know, it is pretty special. And he becomes the
- 8:11Speaker 1: third ever University of Texas defensive back to win the
- 8:17Speaker 1: Thorpe Award. They had it back to back here as
- 8:19Speaker 1: in O five and six with Michael Huff and Aaron Ross,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and so he becomes the third ever Thorpe Award winner
- 8:26Speaker 1: and uh and a hometown kid at that. So that
- 8:31Speaker 1: was I mean because both Huff and Ross were from
- 8:34Speaker 1: different places. Huff was from Irving out of Irving, Nimens
- 8:38Speaker 1: and Ross was from John Tyler. Uh there in Tyler
- 8:41Speaker 1: out in East Texas. So this is the local kid
- 8:43Speaker 1: out of Conley High and it's and it's really cool.
- 8:46Speaker 1: And he had his five to one to two mates
- 8:48Speaker 1: there with him. Lecooba of course the LBJ product, and
- 8:52Speaker 1: Taff from Westlake and so that was that was really
- 8:56Speaker 1: good to see glad for Shade well earned well does
- 9:00Speaker 1: eerved as well? Uh? Travis Hunter won what three awards
- 9:04Speaker 1: last night? I think he won a blitn cough he won.
- 9:09Speaker 1: There were a couple of other awards he won.
- 9:11Speaker 3: He won.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Was it the Maxwell or did the Maxwell go in Maxwell?
- 9:16Speaker 2: When went the genty?
- 9:17Speaker 3: All right?
- 9:18Speaker 1: Gent won the Doak Walker and he won another one
- 9:21Speaker 1: of those. Yeah, and maybe it's the water Camp that
- 9:26Speaker 1: I know that that.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Uh. Gent He won the Maxwell Award, Okay or conglash
- 9:31Speaker 2: Football's Top Player, and the Dope Walker Award yep. Came
- 9:34Speaker 2: Ward won the Dave O'Brien National Quarterback of the Year Award.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Okay Coach of the Year was Kurt Signetti Okay Indiana
- 9:42Speaker 2: South Carolina defensive van Kyle Kinnard won the Bronco in
- 9:44Speaker 2: the Kursky Trophy Okay Nation's top defensive player, yep. Ohio
- 9:48Speaker 2: State center of Seth McLoughlin won the Remington Trophy.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Top Center.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Top Hunter was not Texas as Michael Kerr. It was
- 9:56Speaker 2: USC's Eddies check blikey Okay Ray Guy Award, I'm gonna
- 10:03Speaker 2: have to correct mean that one. The top placekicker Lou
- 10:06Speaker 2: Rose Award was Kenneth Almandaris from Louisiana.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Okay, the Ragel Cagents Okay.
- 10:14Speaker 2: JILLN. Walker won the Buckets Award as nation's best linebacker.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I agree with that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Tyler
- 10:19Speaker 2: Warren won the John mackew Award over Gunner Hill. Who
- 10:22Speaker 2: I think you know? Warren credible. He's going to draft
- 10:25Speaker 2: him in your fantasy league next year. Milroe won the
- 10:28Speaker 2: William V. Campbell Award as the Top Scholar Athlete.
- 10:31Speaker 1: That's the one where Jake Majors was a finalist for it,
- 10:33Speaker 1: but Jaylen Milroe won it.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Bryce Boacher, Oregon leading tackler, won the Bowls with Trophy
- 10:42Speaker 2: as the best Player. I didn't know this award existed.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah, former walk on her current walk On.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Michael taff was a finalist for Yeah, yeah, okay yeah.
- 10:51Speaker 2: And then Travis Hunter.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Hunter won the EIGHTP College Football Player of the Year
- 10:57Speaker 2: award with Genti second in cam Scattaboy's second. He also
- 11:02Speaker 2: won the Walter camp Award Player of the Year, and
- 11:04Speaker 2: then the Chuck Bidnerick Award as the top defensive player
- 11:08Speaker 2: and and the Bolitnikov Award for Best wide Receiver.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah, so he won four awards last night. He's going
- 11:15Speaker 1: to get the biggest one tomorrow night. I don't think
- 11:16Speaker 1: there's any doubt, you know. I read and heard a
- 11:20Speaker 1: lot of things from people. I saw it on social media.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Voters who openly admit, openly admit if they have a
- 11:29Speaker 1: vote for a position award as well as a national award,
- 11:34Speaker 1: they split their vote. They give the position award to
- 11:39Speaker 1: one player and that national award to another player. And
- 11:45Speaker 1: uh so, I you know, it's kind of weird really
- 11:48Speaker 1: if you say so and so is the best college
- 11:51Speaker 1: football player in the country, but he's not the best
- 11:54Speaker 1: at his position. Okay, So there were several people who
- 11:58Speaker 1: do that open a minute, they split their vote on that,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and and so it was, and it brought about a
- 12:06Speaker 1: great deal of debate and all that other kind of stuff.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And I think Travis Hunter is definitely gonna win the Heisman,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and I think Ashton Gent will be second, and uh
- 12:20Speaker 1: probably Dylan Gabriel be third, and Campboard fourth or other
- 12:24Speaker 1: way around something like that. Those are the four who
- 12:26Speaker 1: will be in New York for the Heisman tomorrow. You
- 12:30Speaker 1: know what tomorrow is cam other than Saturday, the fourteenth.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I do not know there's a football game tomorrow other
- 12:37Speaker 1: than uh oh, Army Navy.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Yes, it is.
- 12:40Speaker 1: So this was the game we talked about several weeks
- 12:43Speaker 1: ago when Army and Navy were both undefeated and said,
- 12:47Speaker 1: what would happen if both Navy an Army run the
- 12:51Speaker 1: table and they go undefeated and they play in the
- 12:56Speaker 1: American Conference championship game for US out in the college
- 13:00Speaker 1: football playoff, and then they play the regular season game
- 13:04Speaker 1: the next week, which would have no bearing on the
- 13:06Speaker 1: playoff because the playoff things had already been a well
- 13:09Speaker 1: that ended up not happening. So Army Navy means what
- 13:12Speaker 1: Army Navy means, they're gonna play. The only thing that's
- 13:16Speaker 1: unhappy unfortunate about this my son pointed this out to me.
- 13:19Speaker 3: You know where they're playing tomorrow?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Is it going to be where the Eagles play?
- 13:24Speaker 1: That would be okay if it was, but it's not.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And they used to play it forever and ever at
- 13:29Speaker 1: what was old John F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Philadelphia
- 13:33Speaker 1: a whole one hundred thousand, and then they tore that
- 13:36Speaker 1: down when they built where Lincoln Financial Field is and
- 13:40Speaker 1: the arenas down there.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Uh So, then they moved it around.
- 13:43Speaker 1: They played it at the Meadowlands, they played it in
- 13:46Speaker 1: Baltimore where the Ravens played. Now they're playing where the
- 13:53Speaker 1: Commanders play. Oh yeah, the old FedEx fil whatever it's called.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Now it's got a different name now. Yeah, they're playing
- 13:59Speaker 1: there tomorrow.
- 14:00Speaker 2: It's like the Akron Akron what is it called. Yeah, Oh,
- 14:08Speaker 2: it's Northwest State, that's it. That's the name of it. Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 2: that's like an investment grovers of Northwest. Yeah, Northwestadium. Yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 2: that's where they're playing Army Navy tomorrow. It doesn't really
- 14:17Speaker 2: matter to those military guys'll go. They'll show up, yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 2: pasture and play it. But still it's kind of weird. Well,
- 14:23Speaker 2: that's a good idea on the pastor field.
- 14:26Speaker 1: All right, Up next, some more college football, and we're
- 14:29Speaker 1: gonna hear from Longhornstead basketball coach.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Rodney Terry following the Texas win last night.
- 14:35Speaker 1: We'll do all that and Mormon Well continue on Sports
- 14:36Speaker 1: Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
