Speaker 4: closer to the weekend, Sonny and seventy five here in

• 1:29
Speaker 4: is actually a little less than that, and we got
• 1:33
Speaker 4: more snow as you just heard Jeff Jenkins talking about
• 1:35
Speaker 4: on the way for tomorrow. But it's gonna get better
• 1:38
Speaker 4: as we head toward next week, way better. In fact,
• 1:40
Speaker 4: we're going to talk about that coming up a little

Speaker 4: want to miss, mainly because it has the words beach
• 2:03
Speaker 4: in the title. It's their annual beach party and Embassy
• 2:06
Speaker 4: Suites and Charleston, February twenty eighth, here to talk about
• 2:08
Speaker 4: the Quarterback Club of Charleston. President Robert stone Street, Good morning, sir,
• 2:12
Speaker 4: and welcome to the show.
• 2:13
Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me.
• 2:15
Speaker 4: You had me at beach, my friend, Yeah, you had
• 2:17
Speaker 4: me at beach. Do you know actually if you look
• 2:21
Speaker 4: at the and this is what happens when they put
• 2:22
Speaker 4: meteorologist Brian Hughes's office or his desk too close to mind.
• 2:26
Speaker 4: We talk about the weather a lot this We've actually
• 2:29
Speaker 4: had less snow than what we normally have. We're actually
• 2:32
Speaker 4: below average for the month of January. It's just the
• 2:35
Speaker 4: snow that we've had has stuck around forever. So while
• 2:39
Speaker 4: this seems like it's been an incredibly harsh winter based
• 2:43
Speaker 4: on the numbers, it's actually been a little bit less
• 2:46
Speaker 4: than what we've had.
• 2:48
Speaker 5: So that is hard to believe.
• 2:49
Speaker 4: You can go with that if you want to, you
• 2:51
Speaker 4: can go with that, all right. This is a big
• 2:55
Speaker 4: beach party is happening twenty eighth at the Embassy Suites
• 2:57
Speaker 4: here and Charleston always always a great time and no
• 3:00
Speaker 4: matter what kind of winter we've had, it always puts
• 3:02
Speaker 4: people in a good mood in February when they can
• 3:04
Speaker 4: talk about, you know, things related to beach and have
• 3:08
Speaker 4: on loud Hawaiian shirts looking at you, Steve Animal and
• 3:12
Speaker 4: we have a lot of fun with it. But you
• 3:13
Speaker 4: know it is a fundraiser for marsh University through the
• 3:16
Speaker 4: Quarterback Club at Charleston. Tell us about the Marsh University
• 3:19
  Speaker 4: Quarterback Club.
• 3:20
Speaker 6: Well, the Quarterback Club's a booster club for the Big
• 3:23
Speaker 6: Green and our primary goal is to raise money for
• 3:26
Speaker 6: the football program, but we raised money for the Big
• 3:29
Speaker 6: Green Scholarship Foundation in general. We have two events a year,
• 3:32
Speaker 6: Paint the Capitol Green in August, which is up at
• 3:34
Speaker 6: the bill Noo Flight School at the airport, and then
• 3:37
Speaker 6: now we're having our winter event. Used to be a
• 3:40
Speaker 6: Valentine's theme. We changed it up last year to go
• 3:43
Speaker 6: with beach theme and seemed to be a hit. The
• 3:46
Speaker 6: attire used to be formal, now it's beach attire, whatever
• 3:49
Speaker 6: that means to you. Yes, and we've got live auction
• 3:53
Speaker 6: this year. We're going to have a Jimmy Buffett tribute
• 3:56
Speaker 6: artist Jim Snyder is going to be there strumming the
• 3:59
Speaker 6: guitar awesome, having some margueritaville and boat drinks fun and
• 4:05
Speaker 6: then we've always I have great silent auction items, tropical
• 4:09
Speaker 6: theme dinner, great drinks and just a great time.
• 4:14
Speaker 5: Head coach Tony Gibson is going to be there.
• 4:17
Speaker 6: Give a shout out to Astorgato, who's our title sponsor,
• 4:20
Speaker 6: longtime supporter of this event.
• 4:22
Speaker 5: Very much appreciate them.
• 4:24
Speaker 6: But it's a wonderful event and I would encourage uh
• 4:28
Speaker 6: Marshall fans and non Marshall fans and come on down.
• 4:31
Speaker 4: It's a great, big old party, that's what it is.
• 4:33
Speaker 4: And I have said this before. You and I are
• 4:34
Speaker 4: both Marshall guys, but I have attended over the years
• 4:38
Speaker 4: even when I didn't have to be there, covering a
• 4:39
Speaker 4: lot of WVU events as well. You can't. We would
• 4:42
Speaker 4: like to have a little fun between the two universities,
• 4:44
Speaker 4: but you can support both. And I know there's a
• 4:47
Speaker 4: lot of people that in the past have been at
• 4:49
Speaker 4: the Painted Capital City Green event or at this event,
• 4:52
Speaker 4: your beach party at Embassy Suites. A lot of same
• 4:55
Speaker 4: people come down when we do things for the Mountaineers,
• 4:57
Speaker 4: you know, inside the huddle. Obviously, we were just joking
• 4:59
Speaker 4: with our good friend Tom Peyton out in the hall
• 5:01
Speaker 4: just now, who is rocking the WVU hoodie, And I
• 5:04
Speaker 4: told him, I said, we're gonna have to change that
• 5:06
Speaker 4: and get you a Marshall And I got Marshall stuff too.
• 5:08
Speaker 4: My point is is you can support both.
• 5:11
Speaker 6: You can, and I am a proud graduate of both
• 5:13
Speaker 6: schools okatain Marshall as an undergrad and went to grad
• 5:17
  Speaker 6: school in Morgantown.
• 5:18
Speaker 4: I want to talk about the auction items. We don't
• 5:21
Speaker 4: need to necessarily get specific unless you have a specific list,
• 5:24
Speaker 4: because I know they're still being gathered. But what give
• 5:26
Speaker 4: us an example over of some of the things that
• 5:28
Speaker 4: maybe even you've had in the past that you might have.
• 5:30
Speaker 6: Sure one of the more popular things we've had on
• 5:32
Speaker 6: the silent auction side has been coach's sideline gear, so
• 5:36
Speaker 6: you can you can bid on the attire that the
• 5:40
Speaker 6: coaches wear on the sideline. We often will have memorabilia
• 5:45
Speaker 6: from different events, signed photographs, signed jerseys from popular players,
• 5:52
Speaker 6: and then we have a live auction and there's usually
• 5:54
Speaker 6: some really great trips with the team that go there.
• 5:59
Speaker 6: Opportunities spend time with the coaches. I mean, I know
• 6:01
Speaker 6: we have a trip to Penn State scheduled in the
• 6:05
Speaker 6: fall here and then in a couple of years we're
• 6:08
Speaker 6: going down to Tuscaloosa for a game. And I don't
• 6:11
Speaker 6: have any specific items that might be available, but those
• 6:14
Speaker 6: are the types of events.
• 6:16
Speaker 4: Just a general idea and all in all. Robert again,
• 6:18
Speaker 4: we're talking with Robert stone Street from marsh University Quarterback
• 6:21
  Speaker 4: Club at Charleston.
• 6:22
  Speaker 2: It is.
• 6:23
Speaker 4: It's just a big fun party. I mean, as you said,
• 6:25
Speaker 4: we got Jimmy Buffett style music. We always have great food.
• 6:28
Speaker 4: The folks at Embassy just knock it out of the
• 6:30
Speaker 4: park with beach related foods and your boat drinks and
• 6:35
Speaker 4: things of that nature. It's just all in all, it's
• 6:37
Speaker 4: just a good time in the middle of winter.
• 6:40
Speaker 6: It is tropical themed, great decoration. Our committee does a
• 6:44
Speaker 6: great job decorating the ballroom there and it is just
• 6:49
Speaker 6: a really good evening, good people and good time.
• 6:52
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, absolutely. Talking to Robert stone Street again from
• 6:54
Speaker 4: the Marshall University Quarterback Club about the beach event happening
• 6:57
Speaker 4: the Big Beach Parties the twenty eighth of this month
• 6:59

• 7:31
Speaker 4: tribute is me and Steve Animal. What more could you want?
• 7:35
  Speaker 7: Right?
• 7:36
  Speaker 5: That's right?
• 7:39
Speaker 4: That'll bring them through the door.
• 7:40
Speaker 5: Sure that that's a great draw, dam Sure it is,
• 7:44
  Speaker 5: Sure it is.
• 7:45
Speaker 4: But if people want to get individual tickets or they
• 7:49
Speaker 4: want to talk about sponsorship. You mentioned folks at Astorgato
• 7:52
Speaker 4: who just go above and beyond for this, But there's
• 7:54
Speaker 4: still other sponsorship of opportunities available. You got people can
• 7:59
Speaker 4: buy takes, they can buy individual tickets. What's what's a
• 8:02
Speaker 4: table cost? If somebody want to buy a table.
• 8:04
  Speaker 5: There's two tables.
• 8:05
Speaker 6: There's a white table which is two thousand dollars, and
• 8:08
Speaker 6: then there's a Green table which is thirty five hundred.
• 8:10
Speaker 6: Each of them have ten seats each come with complimentary beer, wine,
• 8:14
Speaker 6: soft drinks, boat drinks. There is an additional benefit to
• 8:18
Speaker 6: the Green sponsors. They get a couple of premium tickets
• 8:21
Speaker 6: to a football game in the fall, and the individual
• 8:23
Speaker 6: tickets are one hundred and seventy five dollars.
• 8:25
Speaker 4: Okay, And so we throw that out there right now,
• 8:27
Speaker 4: because you business folks right now that are listening, you
• 8:30
Speaker 4: talk about a great way to impress some clients. You
• 8:32
Speaker 4: buy a table, and then you know telling you how
• 8:34
Speaker 4: to do your job. Here you pick up the phone,
• 8:36
Speaker 4: you call and say, hey, we just happen to have
• 8:37
Speaker 4: these tickets. Would you like to Can we see that
• 8:39
  Speaker 4: happen a lot?
• 8:40
Speaker 6: We do, and this event typically sells out. There are
• 8:44
Speaker 6: tickets and tables available now, but as we get closer,
• 8:47
Speaker 6: we do typically sell out the ballroom. So if you're interested,
• 8:52
Speaker 6: you can go to herd zone dot com under tickets
• 8:55
Speaker 6: and there you'll see big Green events and there's a
• 8:58
Speaker 6: there's a link for the Beach part and you can
• 9:00
Speaker 6: buy your buy everything online, or if you're not a
• 9:03
Speaker 6: fan of that, you can email the Big Green at
• 9:05
Speaker 6: Big Green at Marshall dot edu.
• 9:08
Speaker 4: Okay, and again, get your tickets now because this event,
• 9:10
Speaker 4: just like the Paint the Capital City Green event that
• 9:12
Speaker 4: happens every August, this event typically does sell out. And
• 9:15
Speaker 4: again it's just a good time. And if you saw
• 9:21
Speaker 4: the weather of the last couple of weeks, even going
• 9:22
Speaker 4: down to the beach, you know, going down to Myrtle
• 9:24
Speaker 4: Beach or whatever. I mean, one of my favorite places
• 9:27
Speaker 4: to go in the world is Saint Simon's Island in Georgia,
• 9:30
Speaker 4: and Saint Simon's had snow, So the beach is not
• 9:33
Speaker 4: always the ultimate getaway. But we can bring some of
• 9:35
Speaker 4: the beach to you here in Charleston. And again it's
• 9:37
Speaker 4: not a formal event by any stretch of the imagination.
• 9:40
Speaker 4: We want you to come with here Hawaiian shirts on,
• 9:43
Speaker 4: or if you just want to wear your Marshall gear
• 9:44
Speaker 4: that's fine too, absolutely, yes, all right, Robert. The event
• 9:48
Speaker 4: is February the twenty eighth at Embassy Suites in Charleston.
• 9:52
Speaker 4: A big shout out to Astorgatto again for being the
• 9:54
Speaker 4: presiding sponsor events. It's the annual Marshall University Quarterback Club

Speaker 4: All right, And if people want to get involved with
• 10:28
Speaker 4: the organization the marsh University Quarterback Club at Charleston. I
• 10:30
Speaker 4: probably need to mention that you talked about some of
• 10:32
Speaker 4: the things that you do. You're always having alumni events
• 10:34
Speaker 4: and things of that and the people or you know,
• 10:36
Speaker 4: events just for people that are fans of the Marshall

• 10:44

• 10:53

• 10:54
Speaker 6: We would welcome folks helping us out and getting involved
• 10:59
Speaker 6: to help support the university and the football team.
• 11:02
Speaker 4: And then I mentioned that Steve Animal myself are going
• 11:04
Speaker 4: to be the MC's.
• 11:05
Speaker 5: And I'm so excited and a little nervous.
• 11:07
Speaker 4: And a little well, we've done it in the past,
• 11:10
Speaker 4: you have, I mean, have we ever?
• 11:11
Speaker 5: Have we ever let you? You have never let us down?
• 11:14
  Speaker 4: Okay, that's that's a relative term though.
• 11:15
Speaker 5: Well you got where you set the bar.

• 15:02
Speaker 4: good morning, welcome to the show.
• 15:04
Speaker 12: Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me, Thank.
• 15:06
Speaker 4: You for being here. Tell us about Kitty Lindsay. Give
• 15:08
  Speaker 4: us the bio.
• 15:09
Speaker 12: Oh boy, okay, Well, I am a teacher and a
• 15:14
  Speaker 12: women's advocate. I've been working in a women's advocacy for
• 15:17
Speaker 12: over a decade now, which is wild to be. But
• 15:21
Speaker 12: I was born and raised here in Charleston on the
• 15:23
Speaker 12: West Side. I have three older brothers. Many of you
• 15:27
Speaker 12: probably know my second brother, Rich Lindsay, who is a
• 15:32
Speaker 12: state senator for a while and is now a judge.
• 15:37
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 15:37
Speaker 12: I grew up on the West Side. My mama lived
• 15:40
Speaker 12: on Woodland Drive, my family we lived on Edgewood Drive,
• 15:44
Speaker 12: and it's just honestly the best place to grow up.
• 15:48
Speaker 12: As they say, the West side is the best side, Yes.
• 15:51
  Speaker 1: It is.
• 15:52
Speaker 4: What is it about Charleston that you that you like
• 15:55
  Speaker 4: so much.
• 15:56
Speaker 12: Oh gosh, Okay. So I'm very lucky in that I've
• 16:00
Speaker 12: been able to travel a lot in my life and
• 16:02
Speaker 12: experience a lot of different cultures and meet a lot
• 16:04
Speaker 12: of different people. I can tell you with one hundred
• 16:08
Speaker 12: percent certainty, there is no other community on this planet
• 16:13
Speaker 12: like the community here in Charleston. The people here are
• 16:16
Speaker 12: so warm, they're welcoming, and you know, in times of
• 16:21
Speaker 12: trouble and adversity, I've never seen a community come together
• 16:25
Speaker 12: like the community here in Charleston. And I think it
• 16:29
Speaker 12: has a lot to do with the values that were
• 16:31
Speaker 12: brought up with here in Charleston, and those values are
• 16:34
Speaker 12: what I bring I think I bring to my campaign
• 16:38
  Speaker 12: for city council.
• 16:39
Speaker 4: Now, as you said, you are a native Charlestonian, so
• 16:42
Speaker 4: you've been around here, you've gone to other places, and
• 16:45
Speaker 4: you've come back. How do we get more people to
• 16:49
Speaker 4: want to do what you did? Maybe go away, travel
• 16:51
Speaker 4: a little bit and then come back, or how do
• 16:53
Speaker 4: we attract people to Charleston I'm talking about in the
• 16:57
Speaker 4: to to want to live within the city of Charleston.
• 16:59
Speaker 4: What do we to do to attract them? To attract business?
• 17:02
Speaker 12: What's your plan that's a wonderful question. So actually my
• 17:06
Speaker 12: campaign platform directly addresses this. So I feel that there
• 17:10
Speaker 12: are three strategies that we can take to keep people
• 17:15
Speaker 12: here and to attract people. One is diversifying our economy
• 17:19
Speaker 12: here in Charleston. I think the mayor has done an
• 17:22
Speaker 12: amazing job of expanding our tourism industry. I think we
• 17:25
Speaker 12: could expand it even further. Same with arts and culture.
• 17:29
Speaker 12: Here we have in Charleston these amazing artists and artisans.
• 17:34
Speaker 12: We could build an economy just from that. And so
• 17:38
Speaker 12: that's one strategy. The other strategy is education. I'm a teacher, obviously,
• 17:44
Speaker 12: so this is a big one for me. Strengthening our
• 17:47
Speaker 12: schools is very important, but I think also providing adult
• 17:51
Speaker 12: education programming that's accessible, that makes sense with people's schedules,
• 17:56
Speaker 12: and that can teach them skills in case they want
• 17:59
Speaker 12: to change a career. For example, are senior folks that
• 18:03
Speaker 12: live here in Charleston. A lot of them are working
• 18:06
Speaker 12: well into their seventies and eighties. My dad, he's seventy six.
• 18:09
Speaker 12: He's still working, right, But we need to give them
• 18:13
Speaker 12: the skills in education that they need to get the
• 18:16
Speaker 12: jobs that are available. And then the third thing I
• 18:19
Speaker 12: think that could attract and keep people here is quality
• 18:24
Speaker 12: of life. And that can look like a lot of
• 18:26
Speaker 12: different things. But the issue that I think is most
• 18:30
Speaker 12: important to quality of life, an issue that is very
• 18:33
Speaker 12: important to me is childcare. Finding a way to build
• 18:37
Speaker 12: that into our infrastructure so that more people can go
• 18:41
Speaker 12: to work, so that children are getting their early education
• 18:45
Speaker 12: development needs met, and yeah, just to give parents out
• 18:52
Speaker 12: there more support in these kind of chaotic at times times.
• 18:58
Speaker 4: You mentioned that you were and again we're talking and
• 19:00
Speaker 4: Kitty Lindsay, who's a candidate for Charleston City Council at
• 19:02
Speaker 4: large seat. You mentioned you were a teacher or a teacher.
• 19:05
Speaker 4: What do you think that you learned as a teacher
• 19:07
Speaker 4: that you think will translate into a role in city government,
• 19:11
  Speaker 4: specifically city council.
• 19:13
Speaker 12: So there are a couple of things. One is patience.
• 19:17
  Speaker 4: That's a given if you're a teacher.
• 19:19
  Speaker 12: I think it's a given if you're a lawmaker as well,
• 19:22
Speaker 12: no matter what level that you're on. So patience is
• 19:25
Speaker 12: a big one. And I think as well, you know,
• 19:30
Speaker 12: sometimes when we know concepts so well, we can talk
• 19:34
Speaker 12: about them in ways that aren't helpful to people who
• 19:38
Speaker 12: aren't familiar with the concepts. So as a teacher, you
• 19:43
Speaker 12: learn how important it is to break concepts down into
• 19:48
Speaker 12: easily digestible, understandable parts, and then over time you build
• 19:53
Speaker 12: on that. And so I would really love I try
• 19:58
Speaker 12: in all of my inter actions with people to meet
• 20:02
Speaker 12: them where they are.
• 20:04
Speaker 13: You know what I mean.
• 20:04
Speaker 12: You can't just jump into big topic if the person
• 20:09
Speaker 12: has no previous experience in that topic. So really talking
• 20:14
Speaker 12: to people, meeting them where they are, asking them also
• 20:18
Speaker 12: what their needs are, and then over time, building building
• 20:23
Speaker 12: building on top of that, so that eventually this is
• 20:27
Speaker 12: where the patience comes in. Eventually we can meet our goals.
• 20:31
Speaker 4: With everything that you have done in your life, Why
• 20:35
Speaker 4: what went into your decision to want to be on
• 20:37
Speaker 4: city council? Because I mean, obviously you've did this is
• 20:41
Speaker 4: and when you're a city council person in the largest
• 20:43
Speaker 4: city in West Virginia, the capital city, a lot of
• 20:45
Speaker 4: demands will be on your time and so on and
• 20:47
Speaker 4: so forth. What was it that led to your decision
• 20:50
Speaker 4: to run for city council?
• 20:51
Speaker 12: Yes, great question. So I think most people are familiar
• 20:57
Speaker 12: with my family. If there was one word that I
• 21:01
Speaker 12: could use to kind of sum up what my family
• 21:05
Speaker 12: is about I would say it's service right from my parents,
• 21:09
Speaker 12: who have worked in the community in a countless different
• 21:14
Speaker 12: ways as attorneys, of course, but also one time they
• 21:17
Speaker 12: were talk show hosts that educated the public on certain issues.
• 21:21
Speaker 12: They also have a nonprofit that provides shoes for needy
• 21:25
Speaker 12: school children. So I was raised in that environment. And
• 21:30
Speaker 12: then now my brothers, they're all lawyers. My eldest brother
• 21:34
Speaker 12: he works in the US Attorney's office here in West Virginia.
• 21:38
Speaker 12: And then you know, my brother Rich obviously served in
• 21:43
Speaker 12: the legislature and he's.
• 21:44
  Speaker 5: Now a judge.
• 21:45
Speaker 12: So this is kind of in our DNA, right. We
• 21:48
Speaker 12: just have this. We're just compelled to serve the public.
• 21:53
Speaker 12: And that is very much the place that I come from,
• 21:57
Speaker 12: and so that's what I see as the job of
• 22:03
Speaker 12: a city council person. We are there to serve the
• 22:06
Speaker 12: people of Charleston. And my hope is that this people
• 22:10
Speaker 12: of Charleston give me the opportunity to do that because
• 22:14
Speaker 12: I love them so much, and I love this city
• 22:16
Speaker 12: so much, and I see we've already done great things.
• 22:21
Speaker 12: We can do even greater things.
• 22:24
Speaker 4: Current you were talking with Kitty Lindsay, who is a
• 22:26
Speaker 4: Council of Candidate at Large bid here in the City
• 22:29
Speaker 4: of Charleston. Give it up on nine to thirty of
• 22:30
Speaker 4: The Dave Allen Show and five eighty live broad to
• 22:32
Speaker 4: You amparted by a Bridge Valley Community and Technical College.
• 22:35
Speaker 4: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu Bridge Valley Community Technical College.
• 22:38
Speaker 4: Your career starts here. You talked about some of the
• 22:39
Speaker 4: things Charleston has going forward. Of course you mentioned the people,
• 22:42
Speaker 4: but also the other things like, you know, Regatta's back
• 22:45
Speaker 4: now we have the bike event that brings people from
• 22:49
Speaker 4: all over the world. And you think about some of
• 22:51
Speaker 4: the other highlights of Charleston, things like Capital Market and
• 22:54
Speaker 4: the baseball team and just and the you know, downtown,
• 22:58
Speaker 4: the businesses and so on. So a great things going on.
• 23:00
Speaker 4: But one of the things that's been on a lot
• 23:02
Speaker 4: of people's mind over the last couple of years is
• 23:04
Speaker 4: the Charlestontown Center Mall. Now, you being a native Charlestonian,
• 23:09
Speaker 4: you can remember. I'm not a native Charlestonian, but I
• 23:11
Speaker 4: can remember coming to the Town Center of the nineteen
• 23:13
Speaker 4: eighties and nineties and when it was at its heyday
• 23:15
Speaker 4: with all the stores and so on and so forth.
• 23:18
Speaker 4: The group that owns it now, not casting shade on them,
• 23:23
Speaker 4: but they've got a different model, okay, and it doesn't
• 23:25
Speaker 4: appear to be doing a whole lot with the Town Center.
• 23:27
Speaker 4: The City of Charleston Mayor Goodwin on the show and
• 23:30
Speaker 4: others have said, look, we want to have we want
• 23:32
Speaker 4: to enter into negotiations to possibly look at at least
• 23:35
Speaker 4: taking over the Town Center if that were to happen.
• 23:39
Speaker 4: You and I know you're one of several people on
• 23:41
Speaker 4: city Council if you're elected, But if that were to happen,
• 23:43
Speaker 4: what do you think should happen with the Town Center Mall?
• 23:45
Speaker 12: Yes, this is something that is on every Charlestonian's.
• 23:50
Speaker 4: Mind and that people outside Charlestown.
• 23:52
Speaker 12: Yes, absolutely, And I just want to say there was
• 23:56
Speaker 12: nothing like the Charlestontown Center Mall back in the day.
• 23:59
Speaker 12: It was incredible. The food court I live, it's amazing.
• 24:04
Speaker 13: But now, so I.
• 24:06
Speaker 12: Talked about childcare. This is an important issue for me
• 24:10
Speaker 12: because when I was growing up, both my parents worked
• 24:13
Speaker 12: and that was made possible by my grandmother. My grandmother,
• 24:18
Speaker 12: she was always at our house when we got home
• 24:21
Speaker 12: from school. She made dinner, she made sure that our
• 24:26
Speaker 12: clothes were clean. All of these things while my parents worked,
• 24:29
Speaker 12: I'm very privileged. Most people they don't have that person
• 24:33
Speaker 12: in their life right, and they may not be able
• 24:36
Speaker 12: to afford to hire somebody to do those things. So
• 24:40
Speaker 12: for me, this issue is personal because I've benefited so
• 24:43
Speaker 12: much from that experience. I know that everybody is deserving
• 24:47
Speaker 12: of that experience of having that part of their lives
• 24:52
  Speaker 12: taken care of.
• 24:53
  Speaker 1: And so.
• 24:55
Speaker 12: My idea about child care is to make it kind
• 24:59
Speaker 12: of position it as a public good, kind of like
• 25:01
Speaker 12: the library. Right have affordable childcare that's accessible to everybody.
• 25:06
Speaker 12: And one thing that I've been kind of kicking around
• 25:09
Speaker 12: in my brain is using part of the Town Center
• 25:12
Speaker 12: Mall as a childcare center. And one reason why I
• 25:17
Speaker 12: think this would be ideal is because it's located right
• 25:21
Speaker 12: in downtown. So everybody that works downtown. You have hospitals downtown,
• 25:26
Speaker 12: you have retail, you have everything. It would be so
• 25:30
Speaker 12: easy for them to just be able to drop their
• 25:32
Speaker 12: children off in the morning, pick them up at whatever
• 25:35
Speaker 12: time is convenient for them. I'm not saying the whole
• 25:39
Speaker 12: mall has to be this, but definitely a dedicated space
• 25:43
Speaker 12: for a childcare center I think would be amazing. And
• 25:46
Speaker 12: then all of the other spaces in the mall would
• 25:52
Speaker 12: support kind of those same ideas of community and mutual
• 25:57
  Speaker 12: aid and care.
• 25:59
Speaker 4: Don with Kitty Lindsay again, who's a candidate for Charleston
• 26:01
Speaker 4: City Council. So, how do you plan on campaigning? I mean,
• 26:05
  Speaker 4: you're on this show, but I mean I know you're
• 26:06
Speaker 4: going to be doing other things. Are you going door
• 26:08
Speaker 4: to door? You're going to meet you know what? What's
• 26:10
  Speaker 4: your plan?
• 26:11
Speaker 12: I am going door to door. I haven't started.
• 26:14
Speaker 4: There's a lot of doors in the city of Charleston,
• 26:16
Speaker 4: hit so many doors.
• 26:17
Speaker 12: But you know what, I take this after my brother.
• 26:20
Speaker 12: I think my brother Rich. We love people. We love people,
• 26:26
Speaker 12: we love talking to people, we love listening to their stories.
• 26:29
Speaker 12: And so for me, going door to door is a
• 26:32
Speaker 12: really exciting thing because I get to, you know, meet
• 26:35
Speaker 12: these people face to face and talk about issues that
• 26:39
Speaker 12: they care about. And you know, as far as the
• 26:43
Speaker 12: rest of my campaign, I'm really just trying to show
• 26:48
Speaker 12: up as Charlestonians do for issues that I care about,
• 26:52
Speaker 12: particularly around issues impacting women, to community events, community meetings groups,
• 26:58
Speaker 12: and I find that I meet so many people that way.
• 27:02
Speaker 12: It helps that we have interests in common. And yeah,
• 27:10
Speaker 12: that's that's really what I'm trying to do. And oh
• 27:14
Speaker 12: as well cultural events, arts and culture. So I don't
• 27:17
Speaker 12: know if you know this, Dave, but I come from
• 27:19
Speaker 12: a theater background and I've actually done a lot of
• 27:22
Speaker 12: work with Charleston Light Opera GILD, and I'm a big
• 27:25
Speaker 12: believer in if you love the arts, supporting local artists
• 27:31
Speaker 12: and local companies that are creating art and Charleson Light
• 27:35
Speaker 12: Opera GILD obviously like the Charleston Light Opera GILD. So
• 27:40
Speaker 12: also going to these events and supporting local artists. Uh,
• 27:44
Speaker 12: that's another I consider it a campaign perk because these
• 27:48
Speaker 12: things are things that I would be doing anyway at it,
• 27:52
Speaker 12: but it's just helpful to talk to some of the
• 27:56
Speaker 12: patrons of these arts as well.
• 27:58
Speaker 4: Where can people learn more about your campaign? You have
• 28:00
Speaker 4: a social media website? Anything you want to throw out there.
• 28:03
Speaker 12: Yes, I have a website. The website is Kitty for
• 28:07
Speaker 12: Citycouncil dot com. I also have a Facebook page Kitty
• 28:12
Speaker 12: Lindsay for City Council. I want to mention too, Dave,
• 28:16
Speaker 12: that I have a Meet and Greek, My first Meet
• 28:18
Speaker 12: and Greek coming up on February nineteenth at my favorite
• 28:22
Speaker 12: place in Charleston Taylor Books in the art gallery. It's free,
• 28:26
Speaker 12: there's food. I'd love for people to come so that
• 28:29
Speaker 12: we can meet and Canny.
• 28:30
Speaker 4: What time is that going to be?
• 28:32
Speaker 12: Five thirty to seven.
• 28:33
Speaker 4: Thirty thirty seven thirty A Taylor Books Downtown Charleston on
• 28:36
Speaker 4: February the eighteenth, nineteen nineteenth. I'm sorry, nineteenth. That's important, Dave.
• 28:41
Speaker 4: They get the date right, February nineth Debruary eighteenth. You
• 28:44
Speaker 4: can show up Taylor Books, would like it, but you
• 28:45
Speaker 4: won't be there February the nineteenth. So, Katy's been a
• 28:50
Speaker 4: pleasure to get you to know you on the show today.
• 28:51
Speaker 4: I'll give you the final thirty, as I do with
• 28:53
Speaker 4: every canaida I have. On final thirty? Why should someone
• 28:56
Speaker 4: vote for Kitty Lindsay for Charleston City Council?
• 28:58
Speaker 12: Great? So my campaign slogan is Charleston Values Leadership for Today,
• 29:05
Speaker 12: and I chose this slogan. I wrote it myself because
• 29:09
Speaker 12: I feel that I bring a fresh perspective that is
• 29:12
Speaker 12: much needed here in Charleston. As I said, I've traveled
• 29:16
Speaker 12: a lot. I've seen what is possible in cities all
• 29:22
Speaker 12: over the world, about what is possible on the municipal
• 29:24
Speaker 12: level as far as what kind of change we can make,
• 29:27
Speaker 12: and so I bring that experience and that insight. But
• 29:31
Speaker 12: everything that I'm doing, as I said at the top
• 29:34
Speaker 12: of our talk, everything I'm doing is rooted in Charleston
• 29:38
Speaker 12: values of community service and helping your neighbor. So I
• 29:43
Speaker 12: hope Charlestonians will give me an opportunity to serve them
• 29:47
Speaker 12: as Charleston City Council at Large member.
• 29:51
Speaker 4: Kitty Lindsey, candidate for Charleston City Council at Large. Bit,
• 29:55
Speaker 4: I appreciate you being here, Good luck with your campaign.

• 33:46
Speaker 4: That's what's called coming up tonight. Coming up on tomorrow's show,
• 33:51
Speaker 4: it's Friday, which means we're going to introduce you to
• 33:53
Speaker 4: another great pet from the Kennal Charleston Human Association with
• 33:56
Speaker 4: our dot Meat. Please put of the week segment Angie
• 33:58
Speaker 4: Gillenwater from the associational joint us to talk about that.
• 34:01
Speaker 4: Will also ask her. We had Angie on the show
• 34:04
Speaker 4: yesterday making a rare Wednesday appearance on the show to
• 34:07
Speaker 4: ask her about the continuing story of Stubbs. You remember
• 34:11
Speaker 4: stub Stubbs. It was the dog and we told you
• 34:15
Speaker 4: the story that on Sunday was dropped off to the
• 34:18
Speaker 4: Canal tarust Numane Association and the dog had apparently been
• 34:23
Speaker 4: shot at least twice, possibly run over with a car.
• 34:27
Speaker 4: The dog. Somebody brought the dog in to the shelter,
• 34:31
Speaker 4: just dropped it off, did not stick around. The person
• 34:34
Speaker 4: did not to stick around for a name or anything
• 34:37
Speaker 4: like that. The dog was about to go was in
• 34:40
Speaker 4: the process of undergoing some medical procedures and unfortunately he
• 34:45
Speaker 4: had a medical emergency and there was no his in
• 34:48
Speaker 4: words of Aangie, his his body basically gave out on
• 34:51
Speaker 4: him and there was nothing that they could do. So
• 34:54
Speaker 4: they were forced to euthanize the dog. And so the
• 34:57
Speaker 4: investigation into what happened to that dog continue news and
• 35:01
Speaker 4: so we are going to talk to Angie about that
• 35:03
Speaker 4: coming up on the show tomorrow. Also, Rick Cabinet from
• 35:05
Speaker 4: Charleston Urban Works will stop by, and Taylor Gow from
• 35:08
Speaker 4: the Clay Center is on the show tomorrow as well.
• 35:11
Speaker 4: Later Today, Metro News Midday presented by Selang Golau. No
• 35:14
Speaker 4: Amanda baron today or tomorrow. She's off a couple of days.
• 35:18
Speaker 4: Amanda will return on Monday. On the show today, Jeff Jenkins,
• 35:21
Speaker 4: we'll get it's caught up on the news. We're gonna
• 35:23
Speaker 4: get a visit from Dave Weekly. Dave's got a commentary
• 35:27
Speaker 4: as it pertains to the super Bowl, and not only
• 35:31
Speaker 4: just the Super Bowl, but also West Virginia ties to
• 35:34
Speaker 4: the Super Bowl. And I will say this, I will
• 35:36
Speaker 4: go on record as saying that when mister Weekly came
• 35:41
Speaker 4: in just before Hotline yesterday and he and I were
• 35:43
Speaker 4: talking off the air and I asked him to come
• 35:46
Speaker 4: on the show today to talk about its commentary, which
• 35:47
Speaker 4: I didn't know what the commentary was at the time.
• 35:50
Speaker 4: He asked me a question, and you can ask mister Weekly.
• 35:54
Speaker 4: I hope you mentioned on there. I got it right,
• 35:57
Speaker 4: and I don't want to spoil it, but it had
• 35:59
Speaker 4: it pertained to a player from WVU or Marshall that
• 36:04
Speaker 4: has appeared in the most Super Bowls.
• 36:06
  Speaker 5: I got it.
• 36:08
Speaker 4: Straight out the gate, just saying, just saying, I get there.
• 36:11
Speaker 4: We'll talk to Weekly about that coming up on the
• 36:13
Speaker 4: show today. Oh look here, Dave Wilson is going to
• 36:17
Speaker 4: be on the show today. It's always fun when Northern
• 36:20
Speaker 4: Dave and Southern Dave get together to continue our ongoing rivalry.
• 36:24
Speaker 4: Wilson is of course. He and Meadows are up at
• 36:26
Speaker 4: the Capitol and they'll have talk line coming up live
• 36:29
Speaker 4: at ten oh six. But afterwards they're coming by here
• 36:33
Speaker 4: and I figured when they said they were coming by
• 36:35
Speaker 4: there had to be food here, and there is, so
• 36:38
Speaker 4: Wilson and I are going to go at it today.
• 36:40
Speaker 4: I've blocked off two segments Ryan for the battle between
• 36:43
Speaker 4: the two Daves today, just so you know. Wilson Meadows
• 36:46
Speaker 4: North versus South. Slaw on hot dogs versus No slaw
• 36:50
Speaker 4: on hot dogs. You know that whole thing. So Wilson's
• 36:52
Speaker 4: going to be on the show today. That should be fun.
• 36:54
Speaker 4: Michael Bayless, you may have heard this on our news
• 36:57
Speaker 4: this one of your right it on the webs that
• 36:58
Speaker 4: Michael bayliss Us Marshall for the Southern District, frequent guests
• 37:01
Speaker 4: to our shows, he is retiring. He's going to join
• 37:04
Speaker 4: us on the show today. Also, Lori Cursey from West
• 37:06
Speaker 4: Virginia watch will stop by. And there have been lots
• 37:09
Speaker 4: of changes in the world of media. You don't need
• 37:11
Speaker 4: me to tell you that over the last ten years,
• 37:13
Speaker 4: but even over the last six months to a year,
• 37:14
Speaker 4: a lot of changes. You may have heard this. The
• 37:17
Speaker 4: Washington Post newspaper has massive layoffs going on. I mean,
• 37:22
Speaker 4: they're pretty much decimating their sports department at the Post.
• 37:26
Speaker 4: And if you know anything, if you follow sports pages,
• 37:28
Speaker 4: I'm kind of a geek about those sorts of things,
• 37:30
Speaker 4: follows sports pages. Washington Post sports page at one time
• 37:35
Speaker 4: was second to none. Well it's no more. So we
• 37:38
Speaker 4: are going to kind of get a little take on
• 37:41
Speaker 4: the ever changing world of media and the landscape of media.
• 37:46
Speaker 4: Burke Allen good friend Alan Media Strategies, which by the
• 37:49
Speaker 4: way is based in DC, is going to join us
• 37:51
Speaker 4: on the showday and of course Open Line West Virginia
• 37:53
Speaker 4: Metric News Midday brought to you by Solango Law again
• 37:55
Speaker 4: to Amanda bearon today or tomorrow, just me finding soda
• 37:58
Speaker 4: for the next couple of days. Ab will be back
• 37:59
Speaker 4: on Monday. As I mentioned, Wilson Meadows are alive at
• 38:02
Speaker 4: the Capitol coming up at ten oh six this morning.
• 38:04
Speaker 4: We'll check in with them a little bit later on
• 38:05
Speaker 4: in the show. Also on Talkline, I will go ahead
• 38:08
Speaker 4: and mentioned this. Senator Shelley Moore Capito is going to
• 38:11
Speaker 4: be on the show today and a big announcement from
• 38:13
Speaker 4: the folks at AARP. They got a press event going
• 38:16
Speaker 4: on at the Capitol a little bit later on, So
• 38:18
Speaker 4: Wilson Meadows are going to talk to those folks coming
• 38:20
Speaker 4: up at ten six. Text says Dave. If you haven't
• 38:28
Speaker 4: read anything or know anything about any issue, then you
• 38:30
Speaker 4: cannot refer to what you were told via hear says facts. Well,
• 38:35
Speaker 4: I guess that was in reference to the number of
• 38:38
Speaker 4: times that the Texter said that that Donald Trump was
• 38:42
Speaker 4: mentioned in the Epstein file more that says the texture
• 38:45
Speaker 4: than Harry Potter is mentioned. Harry Potter. Again, I don't
• 38:47
Speaker 4: know that for a fact. I'm just stating what the
• 38:50
Speaker 4: texter said. That's kind of.
• 38:54
  Speaker 11: What we do.
• 38:56
Speaker 4: Speaking of a talk line, boys today, one of the
• 38:59
Speaker 4: things are going to talk about on the top of
• 39:01
Speaker 4: the show, and this was very interesting to me, is
• 39:04
Speaker 4: a Senate resolution from Senator Rupee Phillips, Republican from the
• 39:11
Speaker 4: seventh District. And this one could ruffle a few feathers.
• 39:16
Speaker 4: Let's face him, he's just doing this to take a
• 39:22
Speaker 4: shot or to look to chiy the governor a little bit.
• 39:25
Speaker 4: This is a joint resolution that would add a single
• 39:28
Speaker 4: line of texts to the state constitution that says, quote,
• 39:34
Speaker 4: no person may be elected as or serve as governor
• 39:39
Speaker 4: unless that person was born in West Virginia. Now, the
• 39:44
Speaker 4: current requirements include being thirty years of age, have resided
• 39:49
Speaker 4: in the state for five years, and a citizen that
• 39:54
Speaker 4: is eligible to votes. Oh, Rupee, no, I'm a fan
• 40:00
Speaker 4: of the governor and Republican. By the way, Rupy Phillips
• 40:03
Speaker 4: is a Republican and he's one of the ones under
• 40:08
Speaker 4: the dome that frequently refers to the Governor as the
• 40:11
Speaker 4: gentleman from New Jersey. Rupee is never at a loss
• 40:15
Speaker 4: for words, and I call him that, I probably should
• 40:17
Speaker 4: call him Senator Phillips. But I've literally known Senator Rupy
• 40:20
Speaker 4: Phillips since we were kids. We grew up together, so
• 40:22
Speaker 4: I literally have known him since we were children's But
• 40:27
Speaker 4: he's going to join Meadows and Wilson at the top
• 40:30
Speaker 4: of the hour ten o six and talk. Looking forward
• 40:32
Speaker 4: to hearing what that discussion is going to be like,
• 40:34
Speaker 4: and what's behind this resolution, and the fact that it's
• 40:36
Speaker 4: being brought by a Republican as Rupy Phillips is chicking
• 40:41
Speaker 4: little shots here and Governor Morrissey or as he refers
• 40:44
Speaker 4: to him, and some other folks do as well as
