- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, guys. What you're trying to get into a day shoon?
- 0:04Speaker 1: What you're trying to do? That's a ring tone right there.
- 0:08Speaker 1: That's a fire song, by the way, and it song
- 0:11Speaker 1: I gotta tell you. Since I told them our listeners
- 0:14Speaker 1: about it and you remind you about it, I've been
- 0:16Speaker 1: singing it NonStop. It's like, you know how you usually
- 0:19Speaker 1: get like a summer hookie song in your head. My
- 0:21Speaker 1: summer hookie song in my head is what you're trying
- 0:23Speaker 1: to get in. Oh, I'm damn wrong. That's amazing because
- 0:27Speaker 1: twenty years ago your summer song was turned me inside out.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So I can't speak because you're everywhere to me. When
- 0:37Speaker 1: I when Michelle Branch knows how many shout outs she
- 0:41Speaker 1: gets on this podcast, Yeah, she should know because she's
- 0:45Speaker 1: not alone. Oh. I think Michelle Branch must be aware
- 0:52Speaker 1: of how many times over the years I've spoken about her.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Do you think Michelle Branch gives two shits about us?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Do you think so? Yes? I think Michelle Brand she
- 1:00Speaker 1: likes any people that are talking about a song she
- 1:02Speaker 1: wrote twenty years ago. I hear that, man. I do
- 1:06Speaker 1: know what happened to her? She joined so she she
- 1:09Speaker 1: I think she got married, had kids, joined a band.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Doesn't mean she gave up her musical she did. She was.
- 1:14Speaker 1: She's in a band right now. It's her and another
- 1:16Speaker 1: young lady and they do they do music together, would
- 1:19Speaker 1: they do? As long as they cover every do me?
- 1:23Speaker 1: They do very they do? Uh? That very good. Casey
- 1:27Speaker 1: put me onto them because you know how Casey works
- 1:28Speaker 1: in music sometimes. And she put me onto them and
- 1:31Speaker 1: was like, Yo, she's dope. She joined a band. I rocked.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I rock out to her in my trouble. You know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: I've been thinking about putting my my, my, my sort
- 1:38Speaker 1: of girl pop workout list on the on on on
- 1:41Speaker 1: the web so people can do that shit. Yeah, do
- 1:44Speaker 1: that shit, yeah, because iTunes needs that. Yeah, people listen.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I can never find a workout playlist that suits my needs. Right.
- 1:52Speaker 1: A lot of people clearly agree with you on on
- 1:55Speaker 1: rap and hip hop because if you go on like
- 1:58Speaker 1: the standard playlist US on iTunes or wherever, they're all
- 2:02Speaker 1: like ninety five percent of that and and like hits
- 2:06Speaker 1: one is all like stuff. I don't listen to wog
- 2:09Speaker 1: do you don't listen to the woutang. I don't listen
- 2:12Speaker 1: to No, I don't listen to Woo Tang. You know who?
- 2:14Speaker 1: But you know who method Man is. Yeah, of course
- 2:16Speaker 1: he was in Garden State. That's right, that's right. But
- 2:18Speaker 1: you know he's in You do know that he is
- 2:20Speaker 1: in a band with about twelve people. Can you name
- 2:24Speaker 1: bo other Wu Tang members? There's Woo, there's Tang, there's clan.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna say some names, and you're gonna be like, oh, yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I've heard of them. Of course, A dirty bastard, of
- 2:39Speaker 1: course I've heard of him. He was, he was, he
- 2:41Speaker 1: died right, Yes, he did the Rizza. Yeah, I've heard him.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I can picture him, dude, the Rizza. We hung out
- 2:47Speaker 1: with him one night. Yeah, and you spell it rza.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I know that. Yeah, we hung out at chateau. He
- 2:51Speaker 1: came through and kicked it with us that night we
- 2:53Speaker 1: were hanging. You're not supposed to talk about chateau on
- 2:55Speaker 1: this actually, so let me take that back. Well, you
- 2:58Speaker 1: know what happens at the chateau is supposed to stay
- 3:00Speaker 1: the chateau right now, you can't be dropping chateau things.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I hung out with Drake at the chateau once. Do
- 3:04Speaker 1: you see look at you spilling the beans? Okay, go ahead,
- 3:07Speaker 1: who else Rizza ODV method Man, method Man, ghost face Killer. Yeah,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I've heard of him. I can't picture his face. I
- 3:15Speaker 1: can't God, you God, I don't know you God. The Jisa,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I don't know the Jizza. That's the genius, uh inspector
- 3:24Speaker 1: deck there you go. Wow, there's a big band. A
- 3:27Speaker 1: lot of people in this band of people. Oh yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 1: it's a huge band. You really like their music a lot?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? I smoke on the mic, like
- 3:33Speaker 1: smoking Joe Frazier, the Hell raizor raising hell with the flavor,
- 3:38Speaker 1: terrorizing jams, like troops in Pakistan, swinging through your town
- 3:41Speaker 1: like a neighborhood spot and man so um TikTok keep ticking.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Come on now, you don't know nothing about the boot
- 3:47Speaker 1: tang okay yo m met h o d man met
- 3:53Speaker 1: h o d man. Hey, you get off my cloud.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You don't know me, and you don't know my down.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You don't notice. No. I have a question though, when
- 4:03Speaker 1: you when you have a big like rap supergroup like that,
- 4:05Speaker 1: are there they all? Hey, dirty baby, I got your money,
- 4:11Speaker 1: don't you worry? I said, Hey, yeah, that's why, before
- 4:16Speaker 1: you go into another song, I have a question, do
- 4:18Speaker 1: they all take turns like I'm gonna rap now, all right,
- 4:21Speaker 1: now you're up. You rapped now that kind of thing
- 4:23Speaker 1: like like like they take turns. Well, some of them
- 4:25Speaker 1: have like a connection. So you remember run DMC growing
- 4:29Speaker 1: up right, Yes, yes, yes, the Adidas my Adidas, Right,
- 4:33Speaker 1: those two had a connection. So when they rapped, they could,
- 4:37Speaker 1: when they rom they could bounce off of each other.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Some people it's like you and I, how we have
- 4:41Speaker 1: a good uh how we have good chemistry. Same thing
- 4:44Speaker 1: with rappers, right, and you look for when you're a rapper,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you look for that person that you have chemistry. Drake
- 4:50Speaker 1: and Future have really good chemistry together. So they do
- 4:52Speaker 1: a lot of records together, right, um. And so it's
- 4:55Speaker 1: the same thing you know, uh in in the Wu
- 4:57Speaker 1: Tang because it was so big, the Woo is so big,
- 5:01Speaker 1: there are little tiny groups withinside the sub groups within
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Wu. Right. So ghost Face and uh ghost Face
- 5:09Speaker 1: and ray Kuana Chef. That's the one I forgot to mention.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I should have put Ray Kuana. He got the best one.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He got probably the best one. Bill for Cuban Links
- 5:17Speaker 1: is probably the best Wu Tang record in my opinion.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It's got so many good songs on it. Anyway, ghost
- 5:25Speaker 1: Face and Ray Kuan do very well together and on
- 5:28Speaker 1: record they bounce off of each other very well. So
- 5:31Speaker 1: they are Uh now, who's your favorite? If you had
- 5:34Speaker 1: to pick one member of the Wu Tang clan, that's
- 5:36Speaker 1: like your favorite rapper in the group, the Jisa, the Genius.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I like him a lot. I liked Odb a lot.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I like I like Meth Method man, I like I
- 5:50Speaker 1: like all of wo To be honest, they still they still,
- 5:53Speaker 1: like ghost Face got somebody life. When the world's normal,
- 5:57Speaker 1: do they still tour? I hope? So it's at the egos. Man,
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's a lot of them, man, how do you do that?
- 6:02Speaker 1: How do you That's like? Look, the Jackson five couldn't
- 6:05Speaker 1: stay together and they were brothers. How do you do
- 6:09Speaker 1: we go on the road eventually touring this show, I
- 6:12Speaker 1: feel like your ego is gonna sore like an eagle
- 6:15Speaker 1: out of control. It depends on if they you're gonna
- 6:19Speaker 1: have demands, you're gonna have in your rider. There's gonna
- 6:22Speaker 1: be all sorts of rules, no eye contact. It all
- 6:25Speaker 1: depends on how loud they applaud for me. If they
- 6:28Speaker 1: applaud for you, louder than they applaud for me. I
- 6:30Speaker 1: feel like I'll fall into a little you know, I'll
- 6:33Speaker 1: back into a going applaud for me more than they
- 6:37Speaker 1: applaud for you. You damn right, man, I want my
- 6:39Speaker 1: bus to be bigger. Yeah, we're gonna measure up. We're
- 6:42Speaker 1: gonna have the same bus. Listen when Dan, We're gonna
- 6:44Speaker 1: bring Dan and Joel and Dan's gonna bring his thunderous
- 6:47Speaker 1: applause button, so we'll be able to augment whatever the
- 6:51Speaker 1: crowd does. We'll be able to augment the audience. You ever,
- 6:54Speaker 1: We're look at an award show and you hear the
- 6:56Speaker 1: applause and an award show, and then you look around
- 6:58Speaker 1: and no one's clapping. Yeah, like like like no one
- 7:01Speaker 1: in an award show is paying attention, so that they'd
- 7:03Speaker 1: they'd be like a third of them clapping, so they
- 7:06Speaker 1: just augment all this thunderous applause. Well, that's gonna be
- 7:08Speaker 1: what Dan is doing for us when we're on tour
- 7:11Speaker 1: with this show. So before we before we start the show, yeah, Dan,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I'll be like, all right, so I need some thunderous
- 7:17Speaker 1: applause from you guys, Okay everybody, And now I need
- 7:19Speaker 1: some laughter, need some laughter? No, no, no, no, And
- 7:22Speaker 1: you're gonna bring it. No, bro, he's just gonna bring it.
- 7:25Speaker 1: It'll be, it'll be, it'll be a button. He well, hell, yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: he's gonna be. He's gonna bring it. Dan always brings it. Yeah,
- 7:30Speaker 1: Dan's gonna bring it, dude, He's gonna bring it. Of
- 7:33Speaker 1: course he brings it. We're gonna talk. I think we're
- 7:39Speaker 1: probably gonna play arenas and um, and we're gonna and
- 7:42Speaker 1: we're gonna need to do sound checks at these arenas.
- 7:45Speaker 1: If we play arenas, imagine that. Imagine we go to London. Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and what's the big area two? The two two, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: we play the O two. That would be the best
- 7:56Speaker 1: day of my life. I'm gonna tell you something right now, London,
- 7:59Speaker 1: make it happen. Let's put it out there, like I'm sure.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I'm sure we're gonna be playing like four hundred seat theaters.
- 8:07Speaker 1: But in reality, let's secret it that we sell out
- 8:10Speaker 1: the O two arena for fake doctor's real friends. That
- 8:12Speaker 1: would be the best. That would be the best night
- 8:15Speaker 1: of my life. Listen, you gotta put shit out there.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I gotta put outrageous shit out there and make it
- 8:21Speaker 1: come true. Remember I told you about the white board.
- 8:23Speaker 1: You'd get a whiteboard and you write the most outrageous
- 8:27Speaker 1: shit you want to have happened in your life, and
- 8:30Speaker 1: you look at it every single day. Who would you say,
- 8:32Speaker 1: did that? Um? Well, I have a lot of people
- 8:35Speaker 1: in my life and told me to this. But the
- 8:37Speaker 1: great the anecdote I referenced on the show was I'm
- 8:39Speaker 1: friends with John Legends manager and they her name is Tye,
- 8:44Speaker 1: and they went to a high school together. And she
- 8:46Speaker 1: said when he first started, they got a big whiteboard
- 8:49Speaker 1: and they were putting them out. They were like, let's
- 8:51Speaker 1: be outrageous, like I don't know, cover of Time magazine,
- 8:54Speaker 1: like this, many Grammys. They were like sitting there laughing
- 8:56Speaker 1: about the outrageous shit they were putting on this whiteboard.
- 8:59Speaker 1: And she turned to me and she said, every single
- 9:01Speaker 1: thing on that whiteboard happened. And uh and and she
- 9:04Speaker 1: said that now I do whiteboards with all my clients
- 9:06Speaker 1: and and like, you know, so anyway, it's about manifesting,
- 9:09Speaker 1: it's about making shit happen. I have a whiteboard in
- 9:11Speaker 1: my bedroom and I'll some some thing's on there, are
- 9:15Speaker 1: like goals I have, and some things on there. Are
- 9:17Speaker 1: like outrageous. I mean, obviously we're not gonna sell it
- 9:20Speaker 1: out arena, but I'm saying you can. You can no
- 9:22Speaker 1: put that shit on the board. It could happen. It
- 9:24Speaker 1: happened for John Legend. Man, the dude's got egot. He
- 9:27Speaker 1: got the egot. Let's make it happen. Dude. Well, maybe
- 9:29Speaker 1: we have to bring John Legend. If it was like
- 9:33Speaker 1: if we opened for John Legend, let's do it. Let's
- 9:36Speaker 1: call a Legend. Yeah, man, listen, the guy's got an egot. Okay,
- 9:38Speaker 1: so put your egot on your board. I believe in
- 9:41Speaker 1: it because you look at the board every day and
- 9:43Speaker 1: even in your subconscious brain, your mind is going, I'm
- 9:47Speaker 1: gonna find a way to work on that today. I'm
- 9:49Speaker 1: gonna make that call I I'm afraid to make. I'm gonna,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you know something, for some people, it's fitness. They're like,
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know what, I just looked at that white board,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and I gotta get on the trap bill today. I
- 9:58Speaker 1: promise myself. That's what's know. I like you, I'm gonna
- 10:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna put the white board in my in my bedroom,
- 10:03Speaker 1: get a white shirt with Casey. I'm gonna be like
- 10:05Speaker 1: baby let's put the most outrageous yes on this board.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I'm telling you, listeners, this is the you know, Brene Brown,
- 10:12Speaker 1: very popular. This is our Brene Brown moment. This is
- 10:15Speaker 1: our self help motivational moment on Fake Doctor's Real Friends.
- 10:19Speaker 1: You can make anything happen. Okay, dude, I love this.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I love this. I love you. I love that we
- 10:26Speaker 1: did this together, the four of us and our and
- 10:29Speaker 1: our listeners. What'd you make that shit happen? Let's do
- 10:32Speaker 1: I have a sweatshirt on today because my wife those
- 10:35Speaker 1: Bieber things. No, it's Mickey Mouse, you know, my my
- 10:39Speaker 1: my forty something crisis is U is being managed by
- 10:43Speaker 1: just getting lots of tattoos. Nice, good for you, man.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I was always afraid to get tattoos because my father
- 10:47Speaker 1: hated them. And when my sister died, I got her
- 10:51Speaker 1: name in Hebrew on my on my arm, and my
- 10:54Speaker 1: father kind of like was okay with that because it
- 10:57Speaker 1: was you know, meaningful and it was Hebrew. And then
- 10:59Speaker 1: when he passed away, like I realized that so much,
- 11:02Speaker 1: even though I was in my forties, I still was
- 11:04Speaker 1: so nervous about what my father would think. And then
- 11:07Speaker 1: I was like, all right, it's time to fucking tattoo
- 11:08Speaker 1: the shit out of myself right on. So you're gonna
- 11:10Speaker 1: have a sleeve soon. Well, I don't know about a sleep.
- 11:13Speaker 1: But where do you want your face? When I get it?
- 11:14Speaker 1: I was thinking my left aariola. I was thinking your
- 11:17Speaker 1: face for sure. I mean, what if I did you
- 11:19Speaker 1: on my pictoralis major and now listen and then your
- 11:22Speaker 1: mouth was open, but then in your mouth was my leftariola.
- 11:27Speaker 1: That's weird. That's weird. I prefer you just got my
- 11:31Speaker 1: face on your face, like you took my face and
- 11:34Speaker 1: tattooed it on your face. He just had a whole
- 11:36Speaker 1: episode about this though. No, I didn't say on his
- 11:39Speaker 1: whole face, like my face on his cheeks. Ye. I
- 11:41Speaker 1: don't know how I'm second. I don't know second Joel
- 11:45Speaker 1: black face? If I Joel, can you imagine you can
- 11:52Speaker 1: see all you can pick up his him painting my
- 11:55Speaker 1: face on his face? You wouldn't be face off tex
- 11:58Speaker 1: But like a tattoo for a right, No, it would
- 12:01Speaker 1: be an outline Joel, Joel, it would be an outline.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Joel's like now managing all of our black face issues.
- 12:07Speaker 1: She's like, guys, sounding like that might be black food Hey, guys,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I got to chime in here. That sounds like it
- 12:14Speaker 1: might be black Joellie would be an outline. It wouldn't
- 12:16Speaker 1: be like colored in, it would be it would be
- 12:18Speaker 1: an outline of Donald's face. Well, I would just want
- 12:20Speaker 1: it on your cheek or on your forehead, you know.
- 12:23Speaker 1: By the way, the guy tattoos me told me that
- 12:26Speaker 1: we were talking about all these young kids that are
- 12:28Speaker 1: getting tattoos on their face and how ridiculous it is,
- 12:31Speaker 1: and he said that he's really surprised that any of
- 12:33Speaker 1: these artists are doing it because there's sort of this
- 12:35Speaker 1: unwritten code amongst tattoo artists that you would never put
- 12:38Speaker 1: a tattoo on a on a young person's face, right
- 12:42Speaker 1: and because for obvious reasons, And he said, um, and
- 12:47Speaker 1: now that there's this fad of it happening, he thinks
- 12:50Speaker 1: that they're all just doing it for Instagram fame, because
- 12:53Speaker 1: these kids are often, you know, famous people, and they're
- 12:57Speaker 1: doing it saying, fuck it, I'm gonna get my fifteen
- 12:59Speaker 1: minutes of fame. But you know, I get these young
- 13:02Speaker 1: people that are all tattooing the shut of their faces. Dude,
- 13:04Speaker 1: you might not be able to get the money later.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You know what I mean, get the money now if
- 13:07Speaker 1: you can. That's that's the that's the Yolo man. You
- 13:10Speaker 1: only live once. You know you would tattoo a child's face. Donald,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I'm not. First of all, I am not a tattoo artist,
- 13:17Speaker 1: so I'll never have to put myself in this situation.
- 13:19Speaker 1: You just told these guys to yolo and tattoo someone's face.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I'm saying, the reasoning behind it is this, dude, do
- 13:27Speaker 1: you You don't listen. If scrubs didn't happen, you don't
- 13:31Speaker 1: know what you would have done to make them to
- 13:32Speaker 1: make ends meet. If you're acting, if you're acting and
- 13:35Speaker 1: directing stuff, you know what I mean, You could have
- 13:37Speaker 1: gone into a business that you might not be proud of.
- 13:40Speaker 1: You might be You might be Instagram model right now
- 13:44Speaker 1: in the air and a thong. I'm talking about you, followers.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I love how these girls the Instagram influence people. They
- 13:51Speaker 1: took like a little time off for COVID and the
- 13:54Speaker 1: Black Lives Matter movement, and now they're all back fucking
- 13:57Speaker 1: tushes in the air, selling tea on some yacht and abiza.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Oh my god, Yolo. Nobody says Yolo anymore? What do
- 14:11Speaker 1: they say these days, I don't know TikTok dancing. I've
- 14:14Speaker 1: been inside so long, I have no idea what the
- 14:16Speaker 1: kids are saying. Well, they're all on some old guy's
- 14:19Speaker 1: yacht doing a TikTok dance. But you know what, they
- 14:22Speaker 1: must have put that ship on a white board. Imagine
- 14:27Speaker 1: that was on the whiteboard. That's the white board. Did
- 14:31Speaker 1: you want to be that's their fucking whiteboard. I want
- 14:33Speaker 1: to be on a yacht having somebody paid for it,
- 14:37Speaker 1: making that Instagram money. That's what's up. That's what's right. Okay,
- 14:42Speaker 1: there it is. Go for yours, listen. That's what I
- 14:45Speaker 1: say to everybody and anybody out there who has dreams
- 14:49Speaker 1: and they want fame. As long as you don't disrespect
- 14:52Speaker 1: nobody or hurt nobody, go for yours. Man. Yeah, but
- 14:54Speaker 1: if you can try and go for something that's contributes
- 14:57Speaker 1: to society in some meaningful way, sure you can find
- 15:00Speaker 1: yourself later on. You got to everybody has something to say.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I miss you so much at her, I miss you
- 15:04Speaker 1: so much more, dude. So should we get into the show?
- 15:06Speaker 1: Tom cavanas here, I'm so excited to count us in
- 15:11Speaker 1: six seven eight stories about show we made about a
- 15:16Speaker 1: bunch of docs and nurses, and he's the stories. So
- 15:26Speaker 1: get around you, here, a yado around you here. What
- 15:35Speaker 1: a show? What a show we have today, Donald, it's
- 15:37Speaker 1: a really good episode. And the hilarious Tom Cavanaugh is here.
- 15:41Speaker 1: We have so much to say. Let's just get in, Dan,
- 15:43Speaker 1: allow him into the room. Here he comes. I haven't
- 15:47Speaker 1: seen him in years. I haven't seen him in years.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Tom call thunders. Applause, Dan thunder thunders, applause. Look at
- 15:56Speaker 1: how handsome he is. It's like, look at here, Row
- 15:59Speaker 1: and look at him, like look in the mirror. It's
- 16:02Speaker 1: that's that's pandemic. You've got the pandemic face going on.
- 16:06Speaker 1: How you did get more handsome with age? Tom Cavanaugh?
- 16:08Speaker 1: And I can say that because people think we look alike.
- 16:12Speaker 1: This is true. I can say, likewise, my friend, look
- 16:14Speaker 1: at you guys, my goodness, grass, I'm so good, so
- 16:18Speaker 1: good to see your face as holy hand. Are you
- 16:20Speaker 1: living in Canada or do you live in the US?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Still well, I live in New York, but I film
- 16:26Speaker 1: a show in Canada, and when the pandemic hit, I
- 16:30Speaker 1: stuck it up north. Hi, Joel, I'm Tom by the way, Yeah,
- 16:35Speaker 1: I'm nice to meet you in person. I listen. I
- 16:37Speaker 1: listened to you guys. So I've sort of been familiar
- 16:39Speaker 1: with the know how to watch your show? Right? You
- 16:41Speaker 1: know I watch your show. I don't know that, but
- 16:44Speaker 1: I know you have like twenty seven children, so I
- 16:46Speaker 1: figured maybe in there in that demo somewhere but to
- 16:48Speaker 1: but now's not watching it for his kids. He's watching
- 16:50Speaker 1: it for so for me. I love the Flash, Dude,
- 16:53Speaker 1: are you kidding me? Gotta dynamite cast great old story?
- 16:58Speaker 1: Donald is your target demo? Tommy, he watches all of
- 17:01Speaker 1: this stuff. Is a bunch of teams. How does how do? Listen? Man?
- 17:08Speaker 1: Are you fine? Is this the only wisten? Now? Listen? Man?
- 17:11Speaker 1: Is this the only wells? Now? Are you the only well?
- 17:14Speaker 1: Is this? Is this the final wells? Because the multi Verse,
- 17:18Speaker 1: the crisis happened, and everything happened, and you know, there's
- 17:21Speaker 1: only what like four earths five earths now in the
- 17:23Speaker 1: whole arrow verse, and now Supergirl lives on Earth one
- 17:28Speaker 1: with you guys, and I don't know. My point is,
- 17:32Speaker 1: My point is, let the man fucking speak to no, no, no,
- 17:36Speaker 1: keep going? Are you really excited? I really do love
- 17:40Speaker 1: the show. I really do love the show. Now you
- 17:42Speaker 1: and Cisco Ramone together. I love Wells and Cisco Ramone.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I love the whole thing. So look, my question is,
- 17:48Speaker 1: are you the only Wells left? Now that you've gone
- 17:50Speaker 1: off and you've become pariah and everything like that, Is
- 17:53Speaker 1: this the only Wells there is? Here's what's ridiculous about
- 17:57Speaker 1: doing the show, a superhero comic show. I run into
- 18:01Speaker 1: people like like you, and I just I'm so inferior
- 18:05Speaker 1: with my knowledge. I'm like, you know more, you know
- 18:08Speaker 1: more than me. And I'm not exaggerating. I'm not trying
- 18:10Speaker 1: to play Donald. I'm like, I understand by listening to
- 18:13Speaker 1: you that you have a better grasp of the whole
- 18:16Speaker 1: thing than I do. I feel like, as you guys know,
- 18:23Speaker 1: when you do a long running television show, if there
- 18:26Speaker 1: needs to be another Wells, there can be another Wells.
- 18:29Speaker 1: That's what's upped. I thought that, Yeah, absolutely, here's the thing.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Can you not DoD First of all, catch your breath,
- 18:36Speaker 1: Come now, Okay, you're embarrassing us in front of our guests. Listen,
- 18:39Speaker 1: this is this is exactly what I did to George
- 18:41Speaker 1: lucas Man, exactly what I can get too. By the way,
- 18:44Speaker 1: when this show's over, He's gonna take a nap because
- 18:46Speaker 1: he's gonna get woozy. He gets very amped up and
- 18:48Speaker 1: then he gets woozy. This is This is all the
- 18:51Speaker 1: fans out there who were wondering how I keeek out
- 18:54Speaker 1: when I when I meet or talk to people that
- 18:56Speaker 1: do something that I'm like holy shit about. This is
- 18:59Speaker 1: it right here? I can't breathe right now. I sweating.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I know I have a sweatshirt on, but I'm sweating
- 19:04Speaker 1: under here, all right, But calm down now. For those
- 19:05Speaker 1: of you who don't know, Tom is on the Flash.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And as I understand it, with the CW superhero shows,
- 19:11Speaker 1: you bounce around to the other shows in the same universe, right,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and that's all. They're all under the Greg Berlany umbrella.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm gues the golden boy of Hollywood that used to
- 19:20Speaker 1: be Bell Lawrence is now Greg Berlanty and Ry has
- 19:23Speaker 1: he has four hundred shows on the air. Yeah. By
- 19:26Speaker 1: the way, my very first job, Tom Cavin well first
- 19:28Speaker 1: lead in the movie was Broken Hearts Club, Greg Berlany's
- 19:31Speaker 1: first movie. That's tremendous and um and now and and
- 19:35Speaker 1: and he we went to Northwestern together and he now
- 19:38Speaker 1: He's like, has the most shows on television of anybody.
- 19:41Speaker 1: You and I when we were talking about doing your podcast. Uh,
- 19:47Speaker 1: the text that came up right next to that text
- 19:50Speaker 1: the last time we talked. I can, I can I
- 19:53Speaker 1: read a text that you as long as it's not
- 19:55Speaker 1: like you up, it's quite It's like four in the
- 20:01Speaker 1: morning and I'm hammered you up. No, it's solid comedy.
- 20:04Speaker 1: It's uh, you say, um tell Berlanti, I want to
- 20:09Speaker 1: do a cameos reverse Flash's brother. I say done. You say,
- 20:13Speaker 1: totally unbuild though a surprise, but I'll need special powers.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I say, make a list, power list, nothing with heavy hammers.
- 20:20Speaker 1: That shit is boring. You say, laser eyes please. I
- 20:23Speaker 1: would say those are free. That sounds great. I feel
- 20:28Speaker 1: like it's a miss. Why did that never fucking happen? Now?
- 20:31Speaker 1: I feel like, now that I've done this and I
- 20:33Speaker 1: know that don't wants to be on board, I feel
- 20:35Speaker 1: like now it's now. Now you're forcing his hand because
- 20:38Speaker 1: you're putting it out to the public, and I's gonna
- 20:40Speaker 1: have to hire you. I was we were talking about
- 20:42Speaker 1: white boards and putting manifesting your destiny onto white boards.
- 20:46Speaker 1: This is on my white board. I'm putting it out
- 20:48Speaker 1: there right now. I'm want to call BERLANDI and I
- 20:51Speaker 1: had to call him about something else. Um, but I'm
- 20:52Speaker 1: gonna call BERLANDI and say, listen. Tom said I could
- 20:55Speaker 1: be on the show. Yeah, because I have that kind
- 20:58Speaker 1: of ball. Yes, I spoke to talk can He said,
- 21:02Speaker 1: hang on a second, Tom, Yeah, he's got it. He's
- 21:06Speaker 1: got so many he's got so many shows. He's like
- 21:08Speaker 1: Tom Tom Tom Tom. He's like, no, I know who
- 21:10Speaker 1: he is. I know who he is. And then he called,
- 21:13Speaker 1: he calls to his secretary. Do we still do flash? Yeah?
- 21:22Speaker 1: But by the way, how funny would that be if
- 21:23Speaker 1: Donald and I came on? I mean I don't, to
- 21:25Speaker 1: be honest, I don't. I don't get breathless about the
- 21:27Speaker 1: superhero stuff like Donald, but he really loves it. So sorry,
- 21:31Speaker 1: I digress the point. You should do it. I know
- 21:32Speaker 1: the other thing you should do, Donald, You should figure
- 21:35Speaker 1: out knowing it as you do. You should figure out
- 21:37Speaker 1: what the what the role is that you want? Because
- 21:40Speaker 1: I know what role I want. There's what do you want?
- 21:42Speaker 1: I want to listen, I'm gonna put it out there.
- 21:46Speaker 1: You want to hope you guys kind of opened it
- 21:49Speaker 1: up when Arrow ended, and I know, I'm not sure
- 21:53Speaker 1: if you guys are allowed to touch it. You kind
- 21:55Speaker 1: of touch on it in Star Girl. But I think
- 21:58Speaker 1: Green Lantern needs to be in this you know what
- 22:01Speaker 1: I mean? Jee Is Joel is a big fan of
- 22:05Speaker 1: this world too, and there's so many, uh, there are
- 22:08Speaker 1: so many that are in the Lantern Court and now
- 22:11Speaker 1: I know that, you know. And also size doesn't matter
- 22:13Speaker 1: when you're a Lantern. You could be tiny, you could
- 22:16Speaker 1: be why think you could be You're right? Come on, man? Anyway,
- 22:20Speaker 1: My point is, I think that's one character that would
- 22:23Speaker 1: be a lot of fun, uh to play. They you know,
- 22:26Speaker 1: they entered There's so many people in the DC universe.
- 22:29Speaker 1: But if I had a choice and they were willing
- 22:32Speaker 1: to do it, I would love to be Green Lantern,
- 22:36Speaker 1: all right, And I think that's really special endeared to Greg.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So I think that's great you're making this happen new
- 22:43Speaker 1: slash right, and the Green can the Green Lantern forty six.
- 22:48Speaker 1: He can be anything, he could be any Look, I'm
- 22:51Speaker 1: playing the reverse Flash. I'm a yellow. I'm wearing a
- 22:53Speaker 1: yellow super suit and sorry Tom for those of us
- 22:58Speaker 1: who don't know. And I'm sure some of our listeners
- 23:00Speaker 1: don't know. Can you just explain in in non superhero
- 23:04Speaker 1: terms what reverse Flash means? Is there a young guy flash? Yes,
- 23:09Speaker 1: there's a good looking It's kind of like when we
- 23:12Speaker 1: did Scrubs, Like a good looking, handsome guy is the lead,
- 23:15Speaker 1: and then they cast this guy as his brother guy.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Is he Bell Lawrence? A lost a bet somewhere, so
- 23:20Speaker 1: basically a young Tom. When you insult your looks, you
- 23:23Speaker 1: insult my looks because I aize. So you're a handsome
- 23:27Speaker 1: you look like real pit to me when you when
- 23:30Speaker 1: you when you came on, I thought we got I
- 23:32Speaker 1: thought we got Tom Kavanaugh. Why is Brad Pitt on
- 23:34Speaker 1: the podcast? That's what that's what you thought? Okay? Sorry?
- 23:39Speaker 1: What is the reverse Flash? For those of us? So,
- 23:41Speaker 1: he's the he's the Joker to the Batman, the Lex
- 23:44Speaker 1: Luthor to the He's he's the bad guys that we
- 23:47Speaker 1: have a young fellow. Grant Gustin plays the Flash and
- 23:50Speaker 1: the arch Enemy is the reverse Flash. He wears a
- 23:52Speaker 1: red suit, and I play the arch Enemy, the reverse
- 23:54Speaker 1: Flash of Barton. I wear a yellow suit. And that's
- 23:56Speaker 1: kind of it. Are you doing lots of stunts and fighting? Yeah, yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: can you imagine it's crazy. You know that bucket list
- 24:02Speaker 1: that you have an as an actor and you want
- 24:05Speaker 1: to do this theater, you want to do this show,
- 24:07Speaker 1: You want to do something like you want the white board. Yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 1: the white parson I started, We started the show time
- 24:12Speaker 1: before we came on, talking about just manifesting things by
- 24:15Speaker 1: putting on a white board and staring at it. And
- 24:17Speaker 1: it was weird to be in your green room and
- 24:19Speaker 1: not have the speakers going. I'm like, I wonder what
- 24:21Speaker 1: they're talking about. We were talking about you, we were
- 24:24Speaker 1: talking about manifesting, and then you well, that's exactly. That's
- 24:27Speaker 1: a great that's such a great call. This is one
- 24:29Speaker 1: of those things I never would have expected to do
- 24:31Speaker 1: a superhero show, and it's a you know, in terms
- 24:34Speaker 1: of a bucket list, it's it's so fun. Yeah, you
- 24:37Speaker 1: guys look like you have a lot of fun on it,
- 24:38Speaker 1: and it has no end in sight. On your show,
- 24:40Speaker 1: it has no end in sight. I mean, I just
- 24:42Speaker 1: feel like they Greg Berlin keeps adding more and more
- 24:45Speaker 1: to this, to this world, right, I don't know if
- 24:48Speaker 1: they're all they all must be successful because they all
- 24:50Speaker 1: keep going. I honestly, I honestly don't know. I never
- 24:54Speaker 1: would have thought. I think when they started a number
- 24:56Speaker 1: of years ago, they had and they've done super you
- 25:00Speaker 1: know what was the Superman show? Small and right, um,
- 25:04Speaker 1: and then they did Arrow and Arrow I think did well.
- 25:06Speaker 1: And then but when we started Flash, you guys, you
- 25:10Speaker 1: guys all know how it is. We started Flashing, I
- 25:12Speaker 1: said to my wife, well, this will be canceled in
- 25:15Speaker 1: seven so I'll go up to Vancouver from New York
- 25:17Speaker 1: and we'll shoot and then it'll get canceled. Because even
- 25:20Speaker 1: at that time, I had done two shows for Greg
- 25:22Speaker 1: and both of them had you know, been canceled relatively quickly,
- 25:26Speaker 1: because that's just how it goes. And so I didn't
- 25:28Speaker 1: foresee it, you know, I just I never expected to go,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and this thing seemed to go. And even when you
- 25:33Speaker 1: say there's no end in sight, I still expect that
- 25:37Speaker 1: you'll just get the call like, hey, so we're done.
- 25:40Speaker 1: You just never know. For those of you not in
- 25:42Speaker 1: the entertainment ustry, we just we just never know. You know.
- 25:45Speaker 1: You get you get a show like Scrubs and you're like, oh, yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 1: this could go six episodes and then it goes nine
- 25:49Speaker 1: years or you know, or or you know, Donald did
- 25:53Speaker 1: this show, um and it won a season, and I
- 25:55Speaker 1: did a show when a season you just have, it's
- 25:57Speaker 1: every single time, it's a roll the dice, no matter
- 26:00Speaker 1: no matter how many good ingredients there are, you just
- 26:03Speaker 1: never know. Yeah, and most of the time the numbers
- 26:05Speaker 1: are it's gonna get canceled. It's not going to go right,
- 26:09Speaker 1: especially now more than ever, because you know, it's there's
- 26:12Speaker 1: so much content. How the hell does something fine? Eyeballs?
- 26:16Speaker 1: You know, and you're on you're on the classic old
- 26:18Speaker 1: school true network. You know, you guys do twenty four
- 26:23Speaker 1: episodes a season. Do you know what it's like to
- 26:27Speaker 1: be able to do something? Most I remember? I remember
- 26:30Speaker 1: I did a show called The Xes right after Scrubs,
- 26:34Speaker 1: right of course. Yeah, we did ten episodes a season.
- 26:38Speaker 1: That was it for an actor. It's like, wait, well,
- 26:42Speaker 1: hold on, let's I want to be I want to
- 26:44Speaker 1: work all year round if I possibly can. It was
- 26:47Speaker 1: really weird to work ten episodes and then have all
- 26:51Speaker 1: of this time off until you came back and did
- 26:53Speaker 1: another ten. Or you would do what we would do
- 26:56Speaker 1: thirty and they would just chop it up into episodes.
- 26:58Speaker 1: It was like you never really find you never really
- 27:01Speaker 1: find a pace or a footing. It's like, well, how well,
- 27:04Speaker 1: how long have we going? We're only got to do
- 27:06Speaker 1: ten twenty two. You guys seem to you know, you
- 27:08Speaker 1: live in Canada right now? Yes? Yeah? Yeah? Is Vancouver, Vancouver,
- 27:15Speaker 1: Canada coniferous jewel of the city. Have you guys been?
- 27:17Speaker 1: I have? I love that town. I think it's a
- 27:19Speaker 1: beautiful city. I love it there. I was there when
- 27:22Speaker 1: the sun was out and it was magnificence. Yes, And
- 27:26Speaker 1: then I was told that it's not always like that,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and I don't know if I would if I would
- 27:30Speaker 1: like that rainy it's a yeah, it's a it's a
- 27:32Speaker 1: question of taste, Like when the sun shines. There's no
- 27:34Speaker 1: finer place. I don't mind the rain. But I think
- 27:36Speaker 1: if you were somebody that didn't like rain and preferred
- 27:40Speaker 1: like seasons and snow, then this city would not be
- 27:42Speaker 1: for you. But it really is. It really is a
- 27:44Speaker 1: coniferous jewel of the city. And are you mostly on
- 27:47Speaker 1: stages and such or do you go out and shoot
- 27:49Speaker 1: on locations and stuff. It's it's almost fall as a
- 27:53Speaker 1: pretty regular schedule where we do a lot of stage
- 27:55Speaker 1: work early in the week, and then we do all
- 27:57Speaker 1: this the stunt stuff. You know, it's always you know,
- 28:00Speaker 1: so Thursday, Friday nights, we're gonna be we're gonna start
- 28:02Speaker 1: you know, five pm, or we're gonna go all night
- 28:04Speaker 1: and we're gonna like, you know, have the guy run
- 28:06Speaker 1: up a building and fight a monster and then like
- 28:07Speaker 1: we're gonna come back and win. You know. So you
- 28:09Speaker 1: kind of you kind of you kind of have to
- 28:11Speaker 1: stay in shape for this thing, like you're you're asked
- 28:14Speaker 1: to do way more than you expected to do when
- 28:16Speaker 1: you started. Huh y. It's a blessing and a curse,
- 28:19Speaker 1: you know, because the other thing is too is as
- 28:21Speaker 1: you guys know too Like I mean, I'm older than
- 28:24Speaker 1: you guys, but there's a there's a thing where you
- 28:27Speaker 1: when you were a young actor, you could be vain,
- 28:30Speaker 1: but you wouldn't really matter because you're probably gonna look fine,
- 28:34Speaker 1: you know. And then you get a little bit older,
- 28:36Speaker 1: and then your coast the people you're acting with, your
- 28:38Speaker 1: co actors are twenty eight, twenty nine, you know, and
- 28:42Speaker 1: they're fantastic, and then there's you, you know, and he's
- 28:46Speaker 1: he looks great in the suit, and then you can't
- 28:48Speaker 1: really be on the donut diet while you're on the suit,
- 28:50Speaker 1: so you kind of have to keep keeping in shape,
- 28:54Speaker 1: you know. And so it's so you hang out with
- 28:56Speaker 1: Jesse al Martin a lot. Jesse is a legend, as
- 28:58Speaker 1: you guys know, coming from either He's just he's amazing.
- 29:02Speaker 1: He's got this thing sucks because he's the captain. You know,
- 29:06Speaker 1: he can he working with a hat and an overcoat.
- 29:08Speaker 1: He doesn't have to worry too much of it. He's
- 29:10Speaker 1: just like he's kind of like he runs. He basically
- 29:13Speaker 1: is the beating heart, you know, runs the show, the
- 29:16Speaker 1: center of you know, reason, and uh, you know he's
- 29:20Speaker 1: he's got a great job and appreciate it. So tom
- 29:24Speaker 1: Um when ed when the show ed, I want to
- 29:26Speaker 1: talk to about that. When it came out, I was
- 29:28Speaker 1: an unemployed actor and my mom called me a very
- 29:32Speaker 1: very concerned that I that I that I had gotten
- 29:35Speaker 1: a lead in the TV show and not told her
- 29:38Speaker 1: because she didn't understand why why I was on billboards
- 29:42Speaker 1: all over the country. And it is I mean no,
- 29:48Speaker 1: it is, I mean she she she obviously sucked that
- 29:50Speaker 1: it was not me, but she was like, there is
- 29:52Speaker 1: a young man. He was on every billboard in town
- 29:57Speaker 1: and he looks a lot like you, and I remember thinking, oh, yeah,
- 30:01Speaker 1: my mom, that's that's not me. Uh yeah, I'm still
- 30:04Speaker 1: still trying to get some auditions going and uh and
- 30:09Speaker 1: it was really humbling because I was like that fucking
- 30:12Speaker 1: guy who looks exactly like me as a as a
- 30:15Speaker 1: hit show leading role on NBC. Now, no one's ever
- 30:19Speaker 1: gonna hire me. By the way, Dak Shephard, who also
- 30:21Speaker 1: looks like us so, told me this. He was like
- 30:23Speaker 1: when I was, when I was, you know, became famous
- 30:26Speaker 1: and was all over the place. He was like, well,
- 30:28Speaker 1: how is this gonna fuck my career? Because I look
- 30:30Speaker 1: like that guy and that guy's already working. And so anyway,
- 30:36Speaker 1: I wanted to talk to you about ED and tell
- 30:37Speaker 1: us I imagine that was your big break, right, I
- 30:40Speaker 1: mean I know you worked a bunch, but that was
- 30:41Speaker 1: your first your own show, right for sure? I mean,
- 30:44Speaker 1: first off, Dak's and you have done quite well for
- 30:49Speaker 1: Yourse House. Yeah, I worked out So's right, Romano, guys,
- 30:51Speaker 1: So's Ray Romano. Yes, it worked out. It didn't work out,
- 30:55Speaker 1: but yeah, I had done. I'm Canadian and um I
- 30:58Speaker 1: had I moved to New York City and I think
- 31:03Speaker 1: eighty nine to do Broadway, I did like a decade
- 31:06Speaker 1: of theater um and UM. I absolutely loved it, absolutely,
- 31:10Speaker 1: one hundred percent loved it. And then I had done
- 31:13Speaker 1: a small guest spots for literally for ten years on ABCNBC.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Back then there was like just the four Right, and
- 31:19Speaker 1: I'd done a show called Providence and then. But I
- 31:24Speaker 1: had no idea of the profile that you guys enjoyed
- 31:28Speaker 1: on Scrubs because the shows a lot of the shows
- 31:31Speaker 1: that I'd done when they were television shows or series.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I've done a couple of series in Canada. They were
- 31:35Speaker 1: Canadian shows, um. And there's no cross border pollination between
- 31:39Speaker 1: the two countries. Um. In other words, you'll shoot a
- 31:42Speaker 1: show in Canada and you'll do ten episodes, but everybody
- 31:45Speaker 1: in Canada is watching friends. You know who's watching these
- 31:51Speaker 1: Canadian shows. Well, it's it's different in Canada. There's a
- 31:54Speaker 1: federal mandate for these television shows, so they do them, um.
- 31:58Speaker 1: And some of them are quite quite good. And there's
- 32:04Speaker 1: not a there's not a mill the way there is
- 32:07Speaker 1: behind the entertainment industry and the states up in Canada,
- 32:11Speaker 1: it doesn't you know, part of the ethos of the
- 32:13Speaker 1: country is like, well, let's not get too big for
- 32:15Speaker 1: ourselves then, you know, and so and in the States
- 32:19Speaker 1: it's very much the opposite, like let's see how we
- 32:21Speaker 1: can build up and how big we can get. And
- 32:24Speaker 1: why that why that ethos is good is that you know,
- 32:29Speaker 1: you you, if you're working as an actor, you're working
- 32:32Speaker 1: largely because you love it. Because a lot of the attention,
- 32:36Speaker 1: at least back then. Now it's different because everything can
- 32:38Speaker 1: be found. But back then, you know, you were you
- 32:41Speaker 1: were doing the same stuff we would do on scrubs
- 32:43Speaker 1: that you'd come to set and there's all the you know,
- 32:45Speaker 1: the crew and there's the people and it's and it's
- 32:47Speaker 1: great and you love it. And then you leave set
- 32:50Speaker 1: and it's still the exact same experience. It's just that
- 32:53Speaker 1: you're not going to radio city music hall and doing
- 32:56Speaker 1: the upfronts, right right, I mean, and so, but it's
- 32:59Speaker 1: nice and it's range way because you understand that, oh,
- 33:02Speaker 1: this is this is what I love to do. And
- 33:04Speaker 1: by the time I got ed, like you know, fifteen
- 33:06Speaker 1: years later, it was I was aware enough that it
- 33:10Speaker 1: was still the same experience. And so even though suddenly,
- 33:14Speaker 1: like you say, there was like billboards plashed out all
- 33:17Speaker 1: over the place. I was readily aware that you know
- 33:21Speaker 1: that that was all that that can get ripped away
- 33:24Speaker 1: and it's semi superficial, and so I think that was
- 33:26Speaker 1: a nice little I don't know what it would be
- 33:28Speaker 1: like to have your face plastered all over the place
- 33:32Speaker 1: when you're in your mid twenties. I think it would
- 33:34Speaker 1: be a I think it would be a tough fight.
- 33:36Speaker 1: We didn't We didn't get a big billboard. By right,
- 33:39Speaker 1: why the NBC didn't go They certainly went all in.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Whoever made the billboard decision for ED went all in,
- 33:45Speaker 1: And by the time Scrubs came on, they were like, dude,
- 33:48Speaker 1: remember a few years ago we shot our billboard budget
- 33:50Speaker 1: on ED. We have no billboard. Yeah, I'm so sorry
- 33:54Speaker 1: about that, because that's why that's why you guys didn't
- 33:57Speaker 1: get that big bill But what was funny is I
- 34:00Speaker 1: I remember when the when Scrubs started, how just how
- 34:03Speaker 1: much of a splash it made. I'm sure you can remember,
- 34:06Speaker 1: and it's not lost on you, how like big a
- 34:08Speaker 1: deal that that was, Like that show was so important
- 34:12Speaker 1: it seemed at the time it was bizarre for us
- 34:15Speaker 1: because also, you know, we compare it to Now, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 1: the amount of people watching a single TV show just
- 34:22Speaker 1: doesn't happen anymore, especially live, um we really even at all,
- 34:26Speaker 1: but let alone live when it's airing. So it was
- 34:29Speaker 1: a completely different eras that would watch at our worst
- 34:33Speaker 1: at our worst TV shows. Now if they got our
- 34:36Speaker 1: worst numbers, right, yes, they would be considered hit shows. Yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 1: I mean yeah, Now a Tom Um was was ed
- 34:44Speaker 1: written for you? Or did you audition? No? No, no,
- 34:46Speaker 1: no they didn't No no, that was again that was NBC.
- 34:50Speaker 1: They didn't want me um at all. Like we had to.
- 34:52Speaker 1: They went through I think a year of casting known
- 34:55Speaker 1: people and um, you know, better humans, you know, and
- 35:00Speaker 1: then well, you know, just just some people that who
- 35:03Speaker 1: aren't in the entertainment industry know they'll often try and
- 35:06Speaker 1: get a known star and that's right, and if that
- 35:10Speaker 1: doesn't always work out for the reasons, and then they go, okay,
- 35:12Speaker 1: well let's start to read people that aren't famous yet,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and which is when this is how people like the
- 35:17Speaker 1: two of you. Well yeah, I mean exactly exactly. It's
- 35:21Speaker 1: exactly how both Tom and I got our parts exactly.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I was like the third I think the third round
- 35:26Speaker 1: or so of doing it the only reason I have
- 35:28Speaker 1: that job. I remember how generous you were at Bill's
- 35:33Speaker 1: fortieth and um we had the party and he was
- 35:38Speaker 1: you know, you were like, you were just so gracious
- 35:40Speaker 1: about because you're clearly incredibly talented, and yet you had
- 35:44Speaker 1: to wherewithal to say, I owe so much to this guy.
- 35:48Speaker 1: And I had the same story. There's a Robernette and
- 35:52Speaker 1: John Beckaman who ran the Late show with Ledhaman were
- 35:55Speaker 1: those are the guys that are the reason I got
- 35:57Speaker 1: the jobs. Those guys said this is the guy, and
- 36:00Speaker 1: you know, they managed to have enough stock that people
- 36:03Speaker 1: would listen to them. And without without somebody standing up
- 36:07Speaker 1: for you, sometimes you just it just doesn't, you know,
- 36:09Speaker 1: doesn't go your way. Those people are the only reason
- 36:12Speaker 1: I got that job. Do you know how many times
- 36:15Speaker 1: you auditioned? I know I auditioned once in Los Angeles,
- 36:21Speaker 1: and you know how it is when you're like, oh,
- 36:24Speaker 1: that that went well, you feel good about it. But
- 36:26Speaker 1: I was also like, okay, it was pilot season and
- 36:28Speaker 1: it was like one read during the day, but it
- 36:30Speaker 1: felt good. And then then they called me to have
- 36:34Speaker 1: the the sessions that they do. They have a studio
- 36:36Speaker 1: session and a network session and um, it was very
- 36:39Speaker 1: It was like and this is I hope this isn't boring.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I don't mean to talk about but they we went
- 36:47Speaker 1: and we had to do it. It was at CBS
- 36:49Speaker 1: at the time. By the way, I don't know if
- 36:50Speaker 1: you guys know that show that was CBS not NBC,
- 36:52Speaker 1: and CBS ultimately didn't think so they got picked up
- 36:58Speaker 1: at CBS and then CBS never aired the show, and
- 37:01Speaker 1: then a year later NBC picked it up, which is weird.
- 37:03Speaker 1: So we said that never happens. It never happened. Every
- 37:06Speaker 1: time you make a pilot, it's always such a bizarre thing,
- 37:08Speaker 1: both when I've been in them or when I've directed them.
- 37:10Speaker 1: You put so they put so much money in, they
- 37:13Speaker 1: put so much work in, and then a network chooses
- 37:15Speaker 1: what they choose, and then the discards are like they
- 37:19Speaker 1: have like the smell of shit on them. No one
- 37:20Speaker 1: will touch them, and it's like, it's like, what someone
- 37:23Speaker 1: just spent six million dollars making this pilot. You could
- 37:26Speaker 1: look at it and maybe recast, maybe you could recast
- 37:29Speaker 1: some things, you could you could reshoot half of it, whatever, Well,
- 37:32Speaker 1: why are you throwing it all away? It's so it's
- 37:34Speaker 1: always as a bizarre waste of money to me, because
- 37:37Speaker 1: there's there's diamonds in the rough that no one is
- 37:40Speaker 1: so this situation is very rare. That then another network,
- 37:44Speaker 1: wade man, we'll take it. I don't know that it
- 37:46Speaker 1: ever happened before with CBS. I think from what the
- 37:49Speaker 1: only reason that that happened was again because Robert net
- 37:55Speaker 1: And ran the Leediman Show. It was because Lediman had
- 37:59Speaker 1: such a big he was such a big paycheck, He's
- 38:02Speaker 1: such a big entity at the time. That was the
- 38:04Speaker 1: only reason I think that that that card. If a
- 38:08Speaker 1: producer didn't have that card to say, that would probably
- 38:11Speaker 1: have never never happened. But when I went into to read,
- 38:15Speaker 1: you know, estensibly the thing was a comedy with heart,
- 38:18Speaker 1: and so you know, you know, you know how these
- 38:21Speaker 1: it's so funny how these things change. So I went
- 38:23Speaker 1: into read. I was solid and funny in the room
- 38:26Speaker 1: and made them laugh. And then normally, okay, the job
- 38:29Speaker 1: is yours, this is at the network read. But then
- 38:32Speaker 1: somebody there's you know, twenty five people in the room,
- 38:34Speaker 1: and somebody starts going, but but what about this this
- 38:36Speaker 1: I don't like this about him? And then that sort
- 38:39Speaker 1: of you know something the next thing, you know, you
- 38:42Speaker 1: had it and then you don't have it. And I
- 38:44Speaker 1: remember Rob and John came out and Rob was he
- 38:47Speaker 1: had this real serious face and he's like, look, so
- 38:50Speaker 1: they don't know if you can. They don't know if
- 38:52Speaker 1: you can do straight drama. So even though it was
- 38:57Speaker 1: a comedic scene about a guy finding out that his
- 38:59Speaker 1: wife is sleeping with a mailman and uh, they're like,
- 39:02Speaker 1: you just need to do that scene again and throw
- 39:05Speaker 1: out all the comedy and play it like, you know,
- 39:07Speaker 1: play it like a Shakespeare tragedy. I was like, okay,
- 39:10Speaker 1: you know, oh my god. And I went in and
- 39:13Speaker 1: did that and you know, just completely straight as possible,
- 39:17Speaker 1: and they were like, okay, can you can do that too.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It's so amazing. Got the exact same speech I got
- 39:22Speaker 1: pretty much really fucked up. Yeah, pretty much when they
- 39:24Speaker 1: weren't saying fucked out. Donald legit fucked out. He didn't
- 39:27Speaker 1: say he sucked up. No, I didn't. Fun. When I
- 39:28Speaker 1: were auditioned for Scrubs, I got real big in the
- 39:31Speaker 1: audition because it was a comedic scene, and I got
- 39:33Speaker 1: real big and animated and Bill had to come out
- 39:36Speaker 1: and be like, dude, tone that shit, Dawn. Yeah, because
- 39:42Speaker 1: it's funny, as you know, like I think sometimes an executive,
- 39:46Speaker 1: here's another executive speaking, goes, I better weigh in as well,
- 39:49Speaker 1: you know, So suddenly they're like, he's big. Yeah, he's
- 39:51Speaker 1: too big, Yeah, he's too bid. Suddenly becomes and you're like,
- 39:53Speaker 1: oh no, if actors only if actors who have yet
- 39:56Speaker 1: to be in one of these rooms only knew how,
- 39:58Speaker 1: oh my gosh, the tight rope you're walking to try
- 40:01Speaker 1: and get a fucking role. Yeah, oh dude, and how
- 40:03Speaker 1: it just it just falls on one person being like,
- 40:07Speaker 1: I don't know what if, and then all of a
- 40:10Speaker 1: sudden you didn't have the part anymore, and you went
- 40:12Speaker 1: in the part for a second. Yeah right, I've been
- 40:14Speaker 1: in the room and watch somebody destroy it, like kill it,
- 40:18Speaker 1: come in and destroy it, and then someone else come
- 40:21Speaker 1: in and do a really good job but not destroy it.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And I saw, well the first person obviously, and one
- 40:29Speaker 1: person in the room was like, well, you know what,
- 40:32Speaker 1: I'm not sure that they actually look like the part.
- 40:35Speaker 1: You know what, You're right, they don't necessarily look like
- 40:37Speaker 1: the part. And all of this doubt happened, and the
- 40:40Speaker 1: person that crushed it did not get the role, and
- 40:43Speaker 1: the person that just did good got the role because
- 40:46Speaker 1: the listening to this, it's crazy, dud. I was once
- 40:50Speaker 1: working on something and this girl came in and she
- 40:54Speaker 1: was young, you know, she was like a young Jennifer
- 40:56Speaker 1: Garner type. She was really pretty. She was early twenties
- 40:58Speaker 1: and super expressive and funny, and I thought that she
- 41:02Speaker 1: should get the part. Another girl came in, very very funny. Well,
- 41:06Speaker 1: you could have done it too, but but I preferred
- 41:08Speaker 1: the first girl. I thought she was better. One of
- 41:10Speaker 1: the executives goes regarding the first girl, the young Jennifer
- 41:13Speaker 1: Garner type, but she goes, she's very expressive. Should we
- 41:19Speaker 1: worry about her wrinkling early? Oh wow, Now, mind you,
- 41:25Speaker 1: this is like a twenty early twenty something, your own girl,
- 41:30Speaker 1: and she's very pretty, and um the not only is
- 41:34Speaker 1: that the most ludicrous thing you can ever imagine another
- 41:36Speaker 1: human being saying, but in your mind, the show is
- 41:38Speaker 1: going to go so many years that that her her
- 41:42Speaker 1: wrinkles that come from her being expressive, we're gonna be
- 41:45Speaker 1: a problem. I mean, it was the most ludicrous thing
- 41:47Speaker 1: I've ever heard in my whole life. It's appalling. It's appalling,
- 41:51Speaker 1: the other part of it is actors can act, you know,
- 41:53Speaker 1: and so so I don't have any times. So you've
- 41:55Speaker 1: done a thing and then like, yeah, the feedback is, yeah,
- 41:58Speaker 1: we wanted a little bigger say that shit, you know,
- 42:03Speaker 1: say that ship. Why don't you let me do the
- 42:05Speaker 1: whole audit? Listen? Man, why did you let me do
- 42:07Speaker 1: the whole the audition that big? Then if that's the case,
- 42:10Speaker 1: somebody in the room could have said, hey, you know what,
- 42:13Speaker 1: I love your choice. You could be diplomatic about it.
- 42:15Speaker 1: I loved your choice, listen, can you tone it down
- 42:17Speaker 1: a little bit this time? Right? You know what I mean?
- 42:20Speaker 1: That never happens anymore, dude. I do remember though, back
- 42:23Speaker 1: in the day when I was going out for auditions
- 42:26Speaker 1: and it would be like somebody who was from the
- 42:28Speaker 1: urban or from the streets and stuff like that, and
- 42:30Speaker 1: you'd get the can you can you spice it up
- 42:33Speaker 1: a little dog? And you can't add a little something something?
- 42:36Speaker 1: Can you can you can you put a little sauce
- 42:38Speaker 1: on that? No? How would they say it? Like what's
- 42:41Speaker 1: the worst face? Some one would say that can you
- 42:43Speaker 1: spice it up a little bit? Spice it up? And
- 42:45Speaker 1: you'd be like what I had a producer say to
- 42:50Speaker 1: me once about a script. She goes, you know, she
- 42:54Speaker 1: was like old lady. She goes, you know, you could
- 42:55Speaker 1: go black with it, and I go, okay, yeah, that's
- 42:59Speaker 1: that's there's no reason. She goes, you know, they're doing
- 43:02Speaker 1: their thing. She did that jest. You guys can't see
- 43:08Speaker 1: the jets drumming. She sort of rocks back and forth.
- 43:10Speaker 1: She goes, you know, they're they're doing their thing. I
- 43:17Speaker 1: was one of the most awkward things I've ever witnessed.
- 43:20Speaker 1: I go, okay, so you want them to do their thing?
- 43:22Speaker 1: I got it? Oh my god, should we get it?
- 43:29Speaker 1: We have to take a break probably, yeah, break, and
- 43:31Speaker 1: then we're gonna get into the episode. All right, we'll
- 43:33Speaker 1: be right back with the Tom cavanaughhy So we always
- 43:48Speaker 1: talk about how everybody met Bill and how you came
- 43:51Speaker 1: to this show. You round up doing the show for
- 43:53Speaker 1: several seasons, lots of episodes. You might say you must
- 43:56Speaker 1: have been one of our most recurring guest stars. I
- 44:01Speaker 1: don't know that, but I can tell you I was
- 44:03Speaker 1: always hugely grateful to get the call. I sort of
- 44:08Speaker 1: feel like, even being on this podcast, it's sort of
- 44:10Speaker 1: like I'm sort of like I was telling your producers.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I've sort of like glommed my way on by like
- 44:17Speaker 1: you know, that's somehow this got put out there. But
- 44:19Speaker 1: I also felt that same way about Scrubs, like I
- 44:21Speaker 1: don't really do Scrubs, but I sort of like piggybacked
- 44:25Speaker 1: on the back of their success. And I've been basically
- 44:27Speaker 1: a parasite this whole time, and I'm so so grateful
- 44:30Speaker 1: for it because people loved you on the show. Tom, Sorry,
- 44:33Speaker 1: it's funny, and how like, no, no, but it's funny.
- 44:35Speaker 1: How like when you like ed isn't anywhere, you can't
- 44:37Speaker 1: find it anywhere. Most of this a lot of stuff
- 44:40Speaker 1: that's harder, harder to find. And I would say Scrubs
- 44:43Speaker 1: is the thing even though you know, you guys were
- 44:46Speaker 1: you get all. You guys did such a great job
- 44:48Speaker 1: and I did nothing. I still get recognized all the
- 44:53Speaker 1: time from I hear people all the time. I want
- 44:55Speaker 1: to say, hey, little brother, or they remember this, they
- 44:57Speaker 1: remember the bathtub episode. I remember this kind of thing.
- 44:59Speaker 1: You know, I was like nine years ago and people
- 45:00Speaker 1: are still like it's still residant. So I'm comedy Santo.
- 45:03Speaker 1: It's just like it's it's lovely to be associated with
- 45:06Speaker 1: your success. Well, people really loved you on the show.
- 45:08Speaker 1: They really um. You know, when when when Donald and
- 45:11Speaker 1: I talked about having guests on UM, a lot of
- 45:14Speaker 1: people um asked for the Tom Kavanov but um, but
- 45:18Speaker 1: wait a second, sorry, go back to what Donald asked,
- 45:20Speaker 1: How did you come about? How did it come about?
- 45:21Speaker 1: Did you know Bill? Or was it the obvious that
- 45:23Speaker 1: people thought he's on NBC he looks like Zach that
- 45:25Speaker 1: kind of thing. No. I I think I had been
- 45:32Speaker 1: friendly with Bill, and we weren't. We weren't friends before
- 45:37Speaker 1: we sort of became friends throughout, but we had, you know,
- 45:40Speaker 1: had spoken and gotten along UM and he uh, he
- 45:45Speaker 1: and his wife had always been like quite a friendly
- 45:48Speaker 1: and generous and stuff. And so I think it must
- 45:50Speaker 1: have been him saying, oh, okay, I know Tom. I
- 45:55Speaker 1: I have a friendly relationship with him, and so this
- 45:58Speaker 1: seems like a natural fit because of how we look.
- 46:02Speaker 1: I think you run into people and you're like, I
- 46:03Speaker 1: would like to work with this person again, you know
- 46:06Speaker 1: what I mean? That happens occasionally, and it almost never happens.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I think all your intentions are always great, and yet
- 46:12Speaker 1: you're still trying to have a job and survive and
- 46:14Speaker 1: so sometimes it's quite quite difficult, given you know, it's
- 46:19Speaker 1: very difficult to repatriot again. So I think I think
- 46:22Speaker 1: maybe we got along and then he was like, oh
- 46:24Speaker 1: this is this could be a nice little one off,
- 46:26Speaker 1: but then it end up being more, which is tremendous
- 46:29Speaker 1: because you're really good on the show man. Also, you know,
- 46:33Speaker 1: I we talk about this all the time and remembering
- 46:37Speaker 1: the shows. This is one of we talk about it
- 46:39Speaker 1: so much that it's become a Bingo. It's one of
- 46:41Speaker 1: the Bengo questions, Like somebody made a Bengo sheet, and
- 46:45Speaker 1: on the Bengo sheet it says they'll talk about at
- 46:48Speaker 1: some point, you know, if they talk about not remembering
- 46:51Speaker 1: the show, you get a letter, right, And this is
- 46:54Speaker 1: one of those moments because I really didn't remember this
- 46:58Speaker 1: episode that much. I knew the first episode I'll remember
- 47:02Speaker 1: you want is when John Ritter passed away and then
- 47:05Speaker 1: you out of nowhere. It was like, yo, you know what,
- 47:07Speaker 1: I'll come in and now and is that this one?
- 47:11Speaker 1: That's not this one? That's not this one at all?
- 47:14Speaker 1: That was another significant one that was such a Again,
- 47:17Speaker 1: you know, I think I don't know if you had
- 47:19Speaker 1: because you're there and you have no basic of comparison
- 47:21Speaker 1: for for you people, you guys were like all your all,
- 47:24Speaker 1: your all, your group was such a welcoming you know.
- 47:27Speaker 1: It's it's it's interesting because when you go through, you know,
- 47:29Speaker 1: thirty years of this stuff, it's not always you know,
- 47:32Speaker 1: it's not always a group like that. You know, and
- 47:35Speaker 1: I obviously don't know all the inside stories and stuff
- 47:38Speaker 1: because I would just come in and out. But but
- 47:41Speaker 1: being in a place where you felt welcomed and um
- 47:46Speaker 1: encouraged and uh, the idea is that that you guys.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I can remember laughing so hard at the stuff you
- 47:51Speaker 1: guys would do that wasn't in the script, knowing that
- 47:54Speaker 1: you would do the stuff verbatim as it was in
- 47:56Speaker 1: the script, knowing that you would get your blows, your
- 47:57Speaker 1: chances later. And I thought, this is incredible, Like this
- 48:00Speaker 1: this environment. I remember you, Zach doing one of I've
- 48:03Speaker 1: seen like the actor who played Ross Skeeller David Swimmer
- 48:07Speaker 1: running too m He had an open laundry door and
- 48:11Speaker 1: he like hits his head on it and falls over there.
- 48:13Speaker 1: That's one of the most solid modern day platfalls. And
- 48:16Speaker 1: you did one into a glass door that was like,
- 48:18Speaker 1: we're just we're just watching, you know, we're sitting by
- 48:20Speaker 1: the monitors, and I was like, I remember thinking this,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and this is like years ago. I remember things. I
- 48:25Speaker 1: could watch him do this all day long. Every time
- 48:28Speaker 1: you didn't get tired of it. You can't do it.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Every time you did it, it was like seemed like
- 48:31Speaker 1: better than the last. I wanted to get it right,
- 48:33Speaker 1: you know. I so enjoyed doing the physical comedy, and
- 48:37Speaker 1: I would get competitive just with myself, wanting to be wanting,
- 48:41Speaker 1: wanting to make a really good one. And and uh,
- 48:44Speaker 1: you know that was a bit of my That was
- 48:45Speaker 1: my sport if you will try to try to be
- 48:48Speaker 1: good at it. I remember one time in one of
- 48:49Speaker 1: the episodes, you jumped out and I just impropped monster. Yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 1: And you know, the funding about the show, as you
- 49:00Speaker 1: were just saying, was there was such a vibe of
- 49:05Speaker 1: just safety, that is, this is a safe environment. Go nuts,
- 49:09Speaker 1: do be adventurous. You know, Bill will tell you, you know,
- 49:13Speaker 1: obviously do it as written, but he'll tell you if
- 49:15Speaker 1: he wants you to bring it down. But I was
- 49:17Speaker 1: just watching this, your first episode, and you were making
- 49:20Speaker 1: such bold choices and tricky which is tricky because you
- 49:24Speaker 1: know we'd bound the show. We're regulars, we're there all
- 49:26Speaker 1: the time. We had we had kind of built up
- 49:28Speaker 1: that comfortableness for a guest star to come on and
- 49:31Speaker 1: be like, all right, I'm gonna do a bold character.
- 49:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna make bold choices. I was really I was
- 49:35Speaker 1: really impressed with you just watching it back, because it's
- 49:38Speaker 1: one thing if you do it like on your fifth episode,
- 49:40Speaker 1: here you are is your first time on set, your
- 49:42Speaker 1: guest star of a of a show that's that's really popular,
- 49:45Speaker 1: and you you came up with this character which was
- 49:48Speaker 1: nothing like your character on ED and was just bold
- 49:52Speaker 1: and funny. But it was probably a lot to do with,
- 49:55Speaker 1: like I say, just being around a place where people
- 49:59Speaker 1: are like, hey, have fun, enjoy I think I think
- 50:03Speaker 1: it just bears repeating that your show was such a
- 50:07Speaker 1: such a place where you know, you welcome people to
- 50:10Speaker 1: do that very thing you were talking about. I remember
- 50:12Speaker 1: also being so impressed. I'm sort of talk on about it,
- 50:15Speaker 1: but it just it just seemed like I remember season
- 50:19Speaker 1: six coming in and doing something and I remember thinking,
- 50:21Speaker 1: I remember watching on different shows i'd done, how you
- 50:24Speaker 1: know people buy into like, well, how what's our place
- 50:28Speaker 1: in the universe of television, like are we popular? Are we?
- 50:31Speaker 1: You know, are we getting enough attention? And um and
- 50:34Speaker 1: I think you guys probably had you know, the NBA.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Why aren't they promoted us all that kind of stuff.
- 50:39Speaker 1: But but I remember coming in on season six and
- 50:42Speaker 1: watching you had settled into this thing like this is
- 50:45Speaker 1: us and this is for us, and it was such
- 50:48Speaker 1: a smart and intelligent way to understand that life is fleeting.
- 50:51Speaker 1: This is fleeting, and so let's just all be for
- 50:55Speaker 1: this show. And when you when you come from a
- 50:57Speaker 1: different place and you come into that, it influenced me
- 51:02Speaker 1: for the rest of my career to go, this is
- 51:03Speaker 1: really what you want. People who are having each other's backs,
- 51:06Speaker 1: who are for each other, who want to just do
- 51:09Speaker 1: this scene right now as best as they can. And
- 51:12Speaker 1: what more is that? Yeah? Speaking of doing a scene
- 51:16Speaker 1: really well, how fucking funny are you stealing the lab
- 51:19Speaker 1: coat and going in to attend to a patient? That
- 51:22Speaker 1: ship was hilarious. Yeah, but before we do that, let's
- 51:28Speaker 1: get into this uh recap. Oh yeah, sorry, So Tom,
- 51:33Speaker 1: every episode, Donald will sum it up. He has thirty
- 51:37Speaker 1: seconds I time, Yes, great, okay, so Donald, hold on
- 51:41Speaker 1: getting my stop watch up he's been crushing it lately.
- 51:44Speaker 1: He's gotten a little cocky. Uh and and and ending early,
- 51:49Speaker 1: which I don't like. I like you to fill your
- 51:50Speaker 1: time now, this might go over, okay on your mark,
- 51:54Speaker 1: get set go. Jad's brother Dan comes to visit. He
- 51:58Speaker 1: recks havoc on all of ja these relationships. J D
- 52:01Speaker 1: wishes his brother would just grow up. Turke and Cocks
- 52:04Speaker 1: are beefing again, this time because both have good arguments
- 52:07Speaker 1: on why their departments are better at saving lives. By
- 52:09Speaker 1: the act break j D and Turk our shame Turk
- 52:12Speaker 1: of himself, JD of his brother. For Turke, it takes
- 52:15Speaker 1: a lesson from an unexpected person for him to regain
- 52:17Speaker 1: faith that he's doing his job the right way. For JD,
- 52:20Speaker 1: it's him learning and understanding that not all people are
- 52:24Speaker 1: built the same. Some people are content with who they are.
- 52:27Speaker 1: How far did I go over? It's thirty six, But
- 52:29Speaker 1: you had some fuck ups and I think the audiences
- 52:31Speaker 1: will give you geez. I thought it was amazing. It's
- 52:35Speaker 1: well done. It's well done. I think when you were hurt,
- 52:37Speaker 1: I don't think you rehearsed this time. Sometimes No, it's
- 52:40Speaker 1: freaking We're an hour into the damn show I expected
- 52:43Speaker 1: to do. We didn't know that Tom Calvin I was
- 52:47Speaker 1: going to be so interesting. Listen, I knew Tom was
- 52:49Speaker 1: going to be this interesting. So you're saying we were
- 52:51Speaker 1: going to get him to the show. You're saying is
- 52:53Speaker 1: that you rehearsed right before he went on the air,
- 52:55Speaker 1: and now you're rusty and I was rusty. If you
- 52:57Speaker 1: give me another chance, I bet it's better. No, I
- 53:00Speaker 1: don't want to hear again. See, good job. You know what, well,
- 53:02Speaker 1: you know what we'll have Dan, I'm speeded up a
- 53:04Speaker 1: little bit. Now we can't do no. Six thirty six.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Well done though, Well that's that's the episode. To remind Tom.
- 53:12Speaker 1: We did this as a service to people who want
- 53:14Speaker 1: a brief reminder of what the episode was Tom. Tom
- 53:18Speaker 1: comes to visit me. He's been driving a car across
- 53:21Speaker 1: the country as a for for three hundred dollars and
- 53:25Speaker 1: he has no fear of doctor Cox, which is just
- 53:27Speaker 1: mind boggling me. And I'm squirming. I'm squirming as he
- 53:31Speaker 1: meets Cox for the first time and is fucking with
- 53:34Speaker 1: doctor Cox. Yeah, that would be the best day of
- 53:36Speaker 1: my life. If I went to my brother's job and
- 53:40Speaker 1: he had a boss that was bullying him, and I
- 53:43Speaker 1: could freaking and I know that no matter what, he's
- 53:46Speaker 1: gonna get bullied anyway, I'm gonna fuck some shit up.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Then how about this, oh work, you gotta mess with
- 53:51Speaker 1: my little brother. Now I'm gonna mess with you. Yeah,
- 53:53Speaker 1: you know, I remember a good day. I think I
- 53:55Speaker 1: remember on the day Tom even being nervous in real life,
- 53:59Speaker 1: they because I was so you know, Johnny was Johnny
- 54:03Speaker 1: and I we were versions of our characters and and
- 54:06Speaker 1: we would just play that. Now you came in as
- 54:08Speaker 1: an alpha fucking with him, and I think I think
- 54:10Speaker 1: I recall even on the day being a little uncomfortable.
- 54:12Speaker 1: But he didn't. I'm sure he didn't, because nobody in
- 54:19Speaker 1: that hospital, in the real world or on or in
- 54:22Speaker 1: the world of the show fucked with him, right, and
- 54:24Speaker 1: he had gotten quite comfortable with that. And now here's
- 54:27Speaker 1: someone who looks just like me walking with him. But
- 54:32Speaker 1: that was great. And then so the let's talk about
- 54:34Speaker 1: that Rickles moment. That was pretty fucking funny. That ship
- 54:36Speaker 1: was hilarious. I love the fact that the reason why
- 54:39Speaker 1: it's gonna happen is because he here's Bambi and you're
- 54:42Speaker 1: like all right, I don't want to you to call
- 54:43Speaker 1: me bam before the rest of my life, I've lab
- 54:46Speaker 1: with a lab coat with a lab coat. And he
- 54:48Speaker 1: walks in, and he goes and you know, and and
- 54:51Speaker 1: and we find out just before he walks in that
- 54:53Speaker 1: the guy's got to live and that the surgery was
- 54:56Speaker 1: everything was a success. And the first thing Tom says,
- 54:59Speaker 1: Dan said this, it was touch and go for ye
- 55:04Speaker 1: And then he goes, you got out. We got to
- 55:05Speaker 1: look out for those little rickles. And he goes, he's
- 55:09Speaker 1: like the little rickles, the kids, their future. And then
- 55:14Speaker 1: I go, okay, thank you. When you go, damn it, bammy,
- 55:18Speaker 1: I'm busy to find a good nurse these days. And
- 55:24Speaker 1: shot was really funny by Michael Spiller. When you when
- 55:27Speaker 1: you turn around, Yeah, I'm always a sucker for the
- 55:30Speaker 1: quick turnaround. Damn it, bammy, give me a second. Yeah,
- 55:34Speaker 1: I'm busy. Hilarious. And now my nightmare would be my
- 55:40Speaker 1: brother coming and flirting with someone that I had feelings
- 55:43Speaker 1: for um and let alone also your friend. I mean,
- 55:47Speaker 1: this is like always awkward when you have a friend
- 55:51Speaker 1: that's like, I don't know if this guy's ever happened
- 55:53Speaker 1: to you were like you broke up with someone and
- 55:54Speaker 1: then you see your friends starting like and you're like,
- 55:58Speaker 1: what the fuck? And and I just I felt for
- 56:01Speaker 1: JD as you, as you and Sarah are walking down
- 56:03Speaker 1: the hall and flirting and it's cool. It's awful. It's
- 56:06Speaker 1: so fucking mean. It's awful. Yeah, it's mean, by the way,
- 56:10Speaker 1: it's me on both parts. It's mean on. It's mean on.
- 56:12Speaker 1: I mean, you guys have a brother. You guys those
- 56:15Speaker 1: two characters had had a brother competition thing, obviously, but
- 56:19Speaker 1: the fact that Elliot was so willing to just like
- 56:22Speaker 1: dive in and be all like Gigney, that was so cruel. Yeah,
- 56:25Speaker 1: it was mean. It was like, ah, he's so funny,
- 56:27Speaker 1: and he's not really that funny, but he was just
- 56:29Speaker 1: being kid. You're like, ah, yeah, no, that's okay. You
- 56:32Speaker 1: just uh. And then the idea that wait, this is
- 56:34Speaker 1: actually happened, This is happening, is happening. I love the
- 56:38Speaker 1: I love the how he realizes it's happening out of nowhere.
- 56:42Speaker 1: You turned day tonight. Yeah, but I'm flicking a switchtasy.
- 56:48Speaker 1: That was great. And then they start totally making out
- 56:50Speaker 1: right and then and then they pop back to reality.
- 56:52Speaker 1: And then in reality, I yell, stop your stop your
- 56:55Speaker 1: stupid laughing. It makes you look like a whore. Right
- 57:00Speaker 1: then you're like kidding, just the worst thing you could say.
- 57:03Speaker 1: And then the way I did it was like vomiting
- 57:06Speaker 1: it up, like I couldn't. I couldn't hold in the rain.
- 57:09Speaker 1: You've you've sewed it out. Yeah, stupid laughing. It makes
- 57:14Speaker 1: you look like goodness gracious. Yeah, yeah, I must have
- 57:18Speaker 1: been tricky to shoot up. We must have done the
- 57:20Speaker 1: first part and then come back. We did. We did.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Then we came back at night and Sarah had this
- 57:24Speaker 1: idea we were both chewing gum to like spit the
- 57:26Speaker 1: gum out, you know, and then like you know, have
- 57:29Speaker 1: the all the one, two, three, four. Were you call
- 57:32Speaker 1: that chewing gum like throughout the whole scene or would
- 57:34Speaker 1: you you both? You know, sometimes when you're an actor,
- 57:36Speaker 1: you know you're gonna make out with someone, you want
- 57:38Speaker 1: to have fresh minty breath. Was it was it? I
- 57:40Speaker 1: think she? I think she no. I think she added
- 57:43Speaker 1: gum later on, because there was is one of two things.
- 57:47Speaker 1: One is like you kissed the person, then they have
- 57:49Speaker 1: the gum that you had in your mouth, not great
- 57:51Speaker 1: or you know puw pew, and I think she. We
- 57:54Speaker 1: realized we could have a we could double down on
- 57:56Speaker 1: the comedy moment by spitting our gum out before the
- 57:58Speaker 1: pooh used to happen. We used to have banaca on set,
- 58:01Speaker 1: not not just for I remember you guys had you
- 58:04Speaker 1: guys had them, You also had the bolt in your mouth. Yeah, yeah,
- 58:09Speaker 1: does give you heartburn? No, I can't give me heartburn. Yeah,
- 58:11Speaker 1: we both Donald and I would have too many and
- 58:13Speaker 1: they would give us heartburn. But um, the uh, the
- 58:16Speaker 1: the old school aerosol spray banoca, which is my favorite.
- 58:20Speaker 1: We started having it just from we had kissing scenes
- 58:22Speaker 1: and we didn't want to have bad breath for our
- 58:24Speaker 1: scene partner. But then it became like, you know, we
- 58:26Speaker 1: were all friends in all up in each other's faces
- 58:28Speaker 1: all day long. We're like, let's make a rule everybody,
- 58:30Speaker 1: we don't have bad breath, and so we would like
- 58:32Speaker 1: just be spraying at NonStop. Dude. I remember, it became
- 58:35Speaker 1: how many can you spray in your mouth? And I
- 58:39Speaker 1: burn his mouth like tin under the tongue, just for
- 58:43Speaker 1: ships and giggles. That's eventually our boom operator velcrowed one
- 58:47Speaker 1: to the boom and uh, and we called it boom
- 58:50Speaker 1: knocka and we'd be like Kevin boom knocka and he
- 58:54Speaker 1: would just dip the boom down. We'd pull the parasol
- 58:56Speaker 1: off off the mic I was on beltrow and then
- 59:00Speaker 1: attach it back up. That's great a right there, that's yeah.
- 59:03Speaker 1: That was thought. We thought he was gonna do it
- 59:05Speaker 1: for like a day as a joke. It was up
- 59:06Speaker 1: there for years, the same same canister, hopefully hopefully changed out. Um.
- 59:13Speaker 1: I like win at five twenty four when when Cox goes, well,
- 59:17Speaker 1: people please stop calling me, yes, and then goes hey, no,
- 59:20Speaker 1: I'm not sorry, Hey, how's it going. I'm nuts. He
- 59:27Speaker 1: had another one in there where it was like I
- 59:29Speaker 1: don't have time for pity or something like that. We're
- 59:32Speaker 1: right when he's talking to Johnny Castle. Oh yeah, I
- 59:35Speaker 1: wrote that down too, and why does why does well?
- 59:38Speaker 1: First of all, when you scare me in the shower, hilarious.
- 59:41Speaker 1: That was the first of many scares we did, like ten,
- 59:43Speaker 1: we did ten. Do you remember that? We remember? I
- 59:45Speaker 1: remember waiting waiting in the thing behind the curtain and
- 59:49Speaker 1: like thinking, oh this maybe this one will do this.
- 59:52Speaker 1: Like there was we had been like five or six
- 59:53Speaker 1: different ones, and I think the first one was really
- 59:56Speaker 1: terrifying for you. I remember that. Uh it's funny. I
- 59:59Speaker 1: just put two and two together that I guess we
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: bought the clear shower curtain that's in the opening of
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: the show, right, because wasn't there a clear shower curtain
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: when you scare me? Yeah? No, no, that isn't the
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: shower curtain. It's opaque when I come out because you
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: don't see me. And then oh, right, and it looks
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: like it's clear. I thought I have because you have
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: you guys have that runner earlier on. Yeah, see, we're
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: shopping for a clear shower curtain, and then, um, where
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: is it? It is? Uh five thirty two. I'm just
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: curious because they'd be funny if we uh we happen
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: to keep the shower Yeah it's clear, goodness, how could it?
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: How can you bought it? We actually bought it? There
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: you go, Okay, look at that continuity. Um yeah, I
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: mean I got air, dude, you scared the shit out
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: of me, and um, I mean in real life, and
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: I think the character but I obviously had a nice
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: juicy map behind me because I like literally flew up. Yes, yes,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: it's solid and once again Zach Braff Solid Zach Braff Special.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: It's good stuff. I laughed. When Verne makes her own
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Halloween candy, she says she's dressed the first of all,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: she's dressed like Raggedy Ann and uh. And there's like
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: this bowl of popcorn and homemade lollipops and she says
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: something like if you want name brand stuff, this fist
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: is packed with nuts or something. This episode, uh, was
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: actually written by Tim Hobert. Yes, I believe was he
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: with us the first season or he came in on
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: seconds him? Was not their first season, No, but he's
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: a very funny writer. So this is his first big episode.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: This is first episode of the season then, and also
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Mike Spiller's back as our director a lot. This is
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: the first episode in which I read on scrubs WICKI. Uh,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: this is the first episode that you're ever called Gandhi
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: by doctor Cox. That's interesting. Sarah's sisters actually one of
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: the interns in this episode. Also when coxes, I mean
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: when Kelso's doing rounds in the beginning, Sarah John when
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: when when Kelso pulls he hates the costumes and he
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: pulls some cat ears off and that's Sarah's sister, not
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: not her younger sister obviously that's your Yeah, it's her
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: older sister. And then I noticed that Johnny Castle playing Doug.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: He takes off the clown nose and kisses it. And
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: I remember on the day thinking that was so random
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: and funny. But I have no idea why he does it.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: It's very weird. Do you know what I'm doing about? Yeah, no,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I know exactly takes the clown that Kelstle says, take
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: that fucking costume on, and he takes the nose off
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: and he looks at it and he gives a little
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: kiss before he fucking which is just so weird and amazing.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I don't also why he did it, but yeah, the
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: scene between you and Johnny Ce when you win the
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: bet is like, to me, that was just such classic
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Scrubs because it's it's good in the in and of
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: itself with the comedy's just hilarious, Jessie, when you're celebrating
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: and it kind of goes on, then it goes on,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: then it keeps going on, which I personally it's funny.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Then it's sort of maybe not funny, then it's really
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: funny because you just keep doing it, You do the
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: backward why, and it's just all the different beats of
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: your comedy there just like I had me laughing and
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I've forgotten the scene. And then and then there's then
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: there's that other level where he's like, very yes, which
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: is what that's what your show did so well, where
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: it's like you have the great comedy and that could
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: just on another show that would just be enough. And
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: then it's like there's a hammer a gravitas that still works.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: It's beautiful, you know, it ends with ends with you,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: like with a legit serious moment considering this information. It's great,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Yes matter, Joel, And you just look like you freaked
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: out about something. Oh, Gina Price Pryflet heard a thing
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: I did and I love her. Sorry, okay, wait what happened? Sorry?
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Wait what happened? I think you're since you distracted the show,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: you're gonna have to share what happened? Sorry, Gina Price
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: blithlot It is an amazing director. She director love basketball
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: um and she just has any movie out on Netflix
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: called oh my Gosh, the Old Guard. Yes, black lady
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: who's been working for a very long time and I
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: love her. She used to write on Felicity, like season
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: one of Felicity, she wrote, and then she went on
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: to do all right, but what up? And that made
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: your face light up because I thought it was Tom's
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: use of the word gravitasse just acknowledged my existence. I
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: get so excited, Oh well, congratulations. What did she say?
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: What she like, you're one of the articles you've written
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: or something. Yeah. I did a pod talking about the
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: new movie and she was like, this was so great.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, that's okay. That's always
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: good to be. Don't apologetic, don't. I just want the
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: listeners to know from my point of view. Tom said
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: the word gravitasse, and Joel's face lit up and she
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: started like doing the hand thing where you might cry,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: And I'm like, wow, Joel really loves the word gravitasse.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: She had better reasons to celebrate, Joe, better reasons to celebrate.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: I'm glad to hear it wasn't gravitas either, the old
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: guard plug. That's great, that would be that would be
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: the funniest shit ever. But she just loves the word
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: whenever she whenever she hears it, she has to fan
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: her eyes. Gl I love how Donald you're bragging about
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: having two singles in your wallet. You say hello miss
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: when he gives you the funny Jackson to the Washington Brothers.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: Right now, you guys get nice and acquainted and in
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Mamallet you're dancing. There was so funny. Man, Yes, I
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: had a lot of I had a lot of fun
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: doing that. I'm sure I did. It's it's really weird,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: you know how things change, Because everybody did a Michael
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Jackson impersonation back in the day. Everybody did it. I
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: can't recall the last time I've seen Michael Jackson impersonation.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: It's been a very very long time now. Probably if
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: we were doing the show now, you probably wouldn't be
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: doing so many Michael Jackson's Now. I love a Growing
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Pain shout out for those of you who were two
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: youngs to know Growing Pains was a very popular sitcom
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: and starring Kirk Cameron and uh when when when when
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: we all go to lunch, I say, oh no, I'm
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: trying to defend Dan. Oh no, he he he lives
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: with my mom, but he's got his own area. He's
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: like Kirk Cameron when he loved the Garage with Boner
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: and Kurt Cameron had a friend in the show named
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: named Boner, which made no sense. Why was his friend
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: named Boner? Everyone knows what his name. His last name
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: was Bone and his dad's name was Sylvester. But then
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: you rut you yell out to the room Boner. Come on, everyone,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: it's two low hanging fruit ber. You guys didn't hear
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: what I said. His dad's name will was Sylvester and
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: his last name stabone Sylvester stabone. Yeah. Do you know
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: the Growing Pain's theme instead of Sylvester stallone Sylvester stabone.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Do you know? I get it? Okay, it just wasn't
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: that funny, I guess. I'm sorry. I thought it was
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: hilarious when I first hearted the show. Kids, Wait a second, Boner,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: your dad's name is Sylvester stabone. And then he turns
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: back and looks like Mike and goes, who know what joke?
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: Please sing the theme song for it? Donald? Do you
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: know the same song? Tom? Tommy? You might not know this,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: but Donald can sing theme song. If you tell me
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: how it starts, I could sing it. Show me that's
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: my again. Okay, Zach, I got it. Don't waste the
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: nun it on your crying and we're nowhere near the
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: end her best edit to be again. Oh okay, we
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: started too high. As long as we get each other, yeah,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: we got the world hanging right in our heads, Baby
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: rain or shine Foot all the time. Okay, we've got
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: each other, sharing the left of love, sharing the laft.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna release an album tom of Donald has to
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: show that Digitis the show that did every season they
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: did a different version of that song. Oh really. They
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: also at some point they had a baby and then
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: they were like, the baby's boring in next season, she's
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: gonna be five. And they also they also had nobody
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: else aged, but the baby was all of a sudden five.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: They also like fostered a kid for a little bit.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Who was young Leonardo DiCaprio. Oh that's right, young young
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: Leo's first show, I believe. Well, I don't know if
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: it was his first, but there's really cute. I've seen,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: like you know when they do like you know, you know, well,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: remember who this little boy was. I've seen like his
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: first interviews. I just love being an actor and I'm
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: just happy to be with these guys. It was really cute,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: and now look at him. Donald has a little Leo crushed.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Tommy comes up almost every episode. I love Leonardo DiCaprio.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Yeah so um last one of my favorite actors of
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: all time. One of our last episodes ended with Donald
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: talking about trying to dock with No no no no
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: no no no no no no plane later to bring guess.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: We gotta go to break. We gotta guess, guys, what
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: about that? Wait, we should go to break, guys, I'm
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: just saying to break. We'll be right back after Donald
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: docs Leo. No, no, no, no, what did he say?
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: What was that? Now? I did not say I wanted
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: to dock with Leo. I just said it thought he
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: was a great actor. We went to break, we went.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: We haven't go yet. All right, now we gotta I
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: think we need to clarify this because I don't want
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: it out there in the ethos that somebody that I'm
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: walking around telling people I want to dock with Leo,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: because that ain't was happening here. Okay, okay, that ain't was.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Donald does not want to dock Leo. Everybody, Yes he does.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: We're gonna break. Wait what all right? Now we're back
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: tom We take a caller here on this show and
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Joel curates them. There are zillions of people that email
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: her and try and send her payola. Uh, and she
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: it's all accepts all the money. She accepts all the money.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Let us all the money. Send you sending money to Joel,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: do it the right way, don't send like send sending
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: the real deal. Hope. We feel her thought, if you
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: don't get picked, but money does help. But you know,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: cash is a little crass. What you can sell sending baskets?
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Cash's crist I don't know if it has ever said
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: that before, but I'm a good Cash's crass. Cash's crass.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Send a woman a wine basket or or some of
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: God's lettuce. Uh, she'll take either one. O. G. Cush
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: is preferred. Who do we have today for the Tom Cavanaugh?
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Who Who's America's favorite older brother? We had O nurse Christina? Christina?
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Christ Hello? Where are you calling from? Christina? Koston and
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: the house? Christina? Um, you're an ear nurse, we heard,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: so that means you're gonna get even more respect than
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: the average caller. We give our callers a lot of respect,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: but an ear nurse gets top respect from well, thank you.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: What's it like right now? You guys are in Houston's
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: it sucks. Yeah, yeah, what's the status. I think I
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: had heard that Texas was legitimately running out of ICU beds. Yeah,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I mean, we tried to ship out a critical patient
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: the other night and couldn't get a hospital that could
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: take him in Houston. We tried to lie fight him
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: out because we didn't have a specialist for it and
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: could not find a hospital. It's tragic. It's tragic, Oh
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: my god. And people need to hear from people like
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: you on the front lines, because I think a lot
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: of people, you know, as we've talked about on the show,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Donald and I lost a friend and uh, and I
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: think people like you who were on the front lines,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: people like us who've lost a loved one, we are
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: seeing him. And Dan was was explaining something on the show.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: I thought that was really that really land with me,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: that unless you're on the front lines and then seeing it,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: you can kind of live in this sort of dream
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: world where you you know, you're just you know, obviously,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: I know people are suffering, they're not working, and the
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: kids are in school, but it cannot it's a little
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: bit out of sight, out of mind, whereas someone like
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: you who's seeing this every single day. Um, it must
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: be just very very traumatic for you that we also
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: see what COVID does to people too, right, what and
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: and and and a lot of people that's something that
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Americans don't see. We don't see the uh, what's what's
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: left up people after COVID has ravaged their bodies and
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: uh and and you know, rect habit rect haboc on
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: their organs and stuff. So, uh, it's just a it's
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: a slave in the face when we're risking our lives
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: and then people are on here saying it's a hoax
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: or that it's a Yeah, it's just frustrating because we
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: don't have any reason to lie about it, right, I know,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I know by the way we see that, by the
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: way we see that. I see even in our comments
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: on Instagram, I don't know you saw this. Donald People
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: were like, uh, enough of the mask talk. You're becoming
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: like every other show. And I wanted to like throw
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: my fucking phone at the wall because I was like,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: our friend just died, So there's gonna be some COVID
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: talk where I fucking ask, right, But um, anyway, I
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: I we thank you for for I just think there's
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: nothing more noble than than being a nurse. And there's
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: extra cherry on top for doing it in the er
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: because the things you must see. And I want to
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: thank y'all real quick for the video that y'all did
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: with you know, Patrick Harris thanking all the healthcare workers.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: It did not get enough props, but it really meant something.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I thank you, thank you, thank you. Um So let's
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: switch to something more like our main mission is to
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: make people giggle a bit. Do you have any questions
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: for for us about scrubs or anything could be about
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: the flash? I don't know. My first question is what's
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: the craziest thing A fan has asked, Joe, Oh my gosh,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: have you ever signed anyone? And then they saw them
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: again and they were like, I turned your signature into
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: a tattoo. Yes, I've had that. Yeah, and people get
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: tattoos to you? Is that weird? Yeah? I was talking
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: about this yesterday. There's some really we tattoos of me
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: out there. And also I actually like the ones some
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: people have tattooed lines from Garden State that were meaningful
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: to them. A film I wrote so I that I
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: think is really cool because something I came up with
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: was meant enough to them to put on their body
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: as a as a as whatever a mantra if you will.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: But what I've seen, like like the weirdest faces I've
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: made on Scrubs where I'm like, you know, like screaming
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: out of fear, like actually in this episode with Tom
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: where I'm like screaming out of fear, and I've seen
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: that on like someone's thigh. Um, Donald, I saw a
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: tattoo of you that as Church that it looked nothing
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: like me. It looked like Charles Barkley. You're on my
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: back and it looked like Charles literally. Now you know,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: as a kid, I was a big fan of Charles Barkley.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: But it didn't look anything like me. It looked literally
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: like Charles Barkley. Right. The weirdest thing that's ever happened
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: to me. I get a lot of people asking for
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: it to eat. Yes, that happens to you a lot
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: because they think you're very strong and they don't know
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I can hold a lot of people up there. Yeah,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: but it's it's it, Donald. You do let a lot
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: more people mount you than I would ever listen. If
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: you are brave enough to ask me, I will most
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: likely oblige now that you should most likely, he said,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: most likely. Fine print That being said that, the fine print,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Tom is like you must be under a certain amount
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: of weight before trying to please got all permission. Don't
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: do it in front of his children or his wife.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: We'll bitch shop you. Well. The fine print is the
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: fine print, truly is like it has to be a
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: special occasion. You can't just be out of nowhere, like
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: you walk down the street and like, lady, let's eagle
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: and that's not gonna happen. It has to be you know,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: it has to be something like if I'm at a
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: conference and it's yes, you know what I mean, and
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: they got to catch you when you're not woozy. Yeah.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: So that's the one thing that that's the one thing
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: that that's pretty weird is that being asked to eagle.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: It's like, really want to jump on my back? You
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: feel that comfortable right now to walk up to me
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: asked me to give you an ask and ask me
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: to give you a piggyback ride? Tom, have you ever
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: had a weird fan moments? I bet some of your
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: young flash fans have asked for something odd. I think
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: just what you were saying earlier. I think it really
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: tests your metal as an actor when somebody suddenly unveils
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: a tattoo of you on them, because you know, I
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: think the reaction they're looking for it is like, oh
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: that's great, wow, you know, but really your reaction is right, yeah,
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: you know, and you really got to you got to
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: try and cover that as best you can because they've got,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: you know, I permanent ink on their body. Of course,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: you naturally, you're naturally assumed they're going to regret it.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: You think the next day. You don't think you're going
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: to end up seeing it ever, But yeah, of course
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: it's going to be a massive regret. Well, we talked
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: before you came on, Tonnel about how I'm gonna get
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Donald on my face. Joel Joel Joelle reminded us that
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I should not attempt to shade it in at all,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: because huh, I listened. I listened to your episode. Yeah listen,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: of course, Yeah, Joelle, you guys were very well. Joel
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: just came on in a moment of nervousness, being like, guys,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: guys talk about here's the voice, here's the voice of reason.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Please listen to the voice of I assured Joelle that
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: would be solely an outline of his beautiful face. How
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: many people have sent you in appletini in the bar?
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Oh oh, that's a very good question. Um, that's happened
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: to bunch. I gotten sent a lot of apple tinis.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: They don't, Um, I don't don't like appleto just be honest,
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: it's very sweet. It's sugar, I don't. I mean, I
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: understand it if you're if you're young, or if you're
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: if you're out for a night, you want to have
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: a funny cocktail. But I think that if you shouldn't
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: get a trunk on them because they are so filled
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: with sugar head. The next day. I'm one of the
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: owners of a restaurant in New York that I'll give
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: a plug too now called the Mermaid Oyster Bar, and
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: it's seventy nine McDougall if you'd like to check it
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: out when the world reopens. But do they serve oysters
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: at oyster Yes, they have the sixteen different types of oysters.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: I love that you just said, do they serve oysters
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: at this oyster bar? He was trying to starting to
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: see if it was good. He'd be a good friend
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: and trying to be like, tell us more about this. Oh,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: you probably want to know about our lobster roll. Donald,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: do you have a lobster roll? Oh? We have lobster
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: roll in Manhattan. I'll tell you that right now. Really yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: seventy nine. My point was that the owner told me that,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: He's like, do you have an idea why people keep
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: coming in and ordering apple tinis? That's fine, and he's like,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: I don't know, but can you make them? He's like, no,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: we're not making appletinis. Just people tell your fans to
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: stop ordering us when we were young and they were tasty, though,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: I don't know. Do you like them? Christina? A little
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: sweet for me? All right? You have another question for us, Christina. Um,
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: so scrubs one, what is your most memorable scene that
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: you filmed? Oh? Heavy question, good question? Wow? Um well
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: Tom can go first because he's the guest. He's got
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: less did It's easy? It was just you know, I
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: loved almost every scene we did for comedy. There was
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: one where the three of us were um part buddies
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: where we did the fart stuff. Yeah, we were goofing
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: around the thing and then we had to we were
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: eating breakfast and then we had to go I had
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: to go to the bathroom, and it just became this
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: long running I'll be in there for one minute, two minutes,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: five minutes, ten minutes, one minute, um. And then the
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: other one was just the John Ritter uh stuff to
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: have been like a part of that with with you guys,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: was you know it was? It was meaningful, certainly. The
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: bats scene, the bad type scene was a little less
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: fun than you might expect. At one point John c
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Riley is like, by no, you're sitting in abouts too,
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: probably of your own urine, and I think that was
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: probably closer to the truth. So less fun. But at
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: the same time, you know, it's one thing that I
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: hear a lot, you know about the Captain bubble Beerver
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: or whatever the heck it was called. Anyway, So you guys,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: that's enough. Now you've had enough time. I've stalled well enough,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: I feel, and now you guys have the tarmac ready.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: We answered something similar to this recently, but I wonder
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: if it's the same answer for you. Donald go ahead,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: well the Star Wars, Oh yeah, you're right. Uh. Also, uh,
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: getting the opportunity to do an Indiana Jones situation in
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Someone's colon was a lot of fun doing the whole
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: opening to Raiders of the Lost Dark and side of
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Someone's colon um and then uh, to be honest with you,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: one of my favorite scenes. It's a song, but Zach
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: and I singing everything comes down to Pooh. Still to
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: this day is one of my like, I watched that
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: with a smile, and I can't watch a lot of
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: the things that I do, but that's one thing that
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I've done where I'm like that was. That was fucking
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: a great time shooting that. Yeah, one of my favorite
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: times was repelling across the fake city street on the
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: Universal backlot on the episode where Donald and I go
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: on a quest to find Molly, Heather Graham's character, and
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: we repel across the street and then nail the wall
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: and I fall into a bunch of garbage and then
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: I get up and she looks at me, and I
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: act like I'm surprised to see her, and I go, Molly,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: you're doing here? That was just the most fun because
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: you know, do you remember how you got the to
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: repel across the rope which I pulled your shirt off
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: of you. No, you've pulled my gown off of me.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: I've been out a gown on it or it wasn't
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: a shirt, it was a hospital gun. Yeah yeah, And
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: I go and I go, yeah, I pull it off
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: and you gasp and then you're shirtless. And then I
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: turned it turn, I turned into a thing to repel
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: across the street. And then and then I go Molly,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: and she goes, what are you doing here? And then
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you just see Donald in the background,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: dropped down into frame naked. So that was just so
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: fun because you know, we didn't always Yeah, as I've
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: said before on the podcast, that episode was like so epic.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: We didn't always do episodes that were that big. And
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: there we were like taking over the Universal backlot to
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: do that scene and I was directing, and it was
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: just funny. I remember just laughing my ass off that.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: All right, Well, we gotta go because our show's going
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: so incredibly long with Christina. Thank you from and all sincerity.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: Thank you so much for for what you're doing, for
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: for everything, for being on the front line for us.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: Can I just sat y'all to give a quick shout
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: out to two of my best friends that are super
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: jealous right now. Of course, sure, Preston and Nikki, Yo, Preston, Nikki,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: it's down a phase on and oh I'm Zach Braff
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: and Zach Braff. Sorry, what's happening, y'all? What's happening y'all?
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: What's happening? By Preston and Nikki and by Christina. Thank
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: you so much, thank you, thank you, Christina. Now listen,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: it's not beneath us. It scrubs to do a fart
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: joke every now and then. And uh, and your family
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: loves to fart. Dorian's love to fart. True. Oh, by
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: the way, we were, we were, we were. We were
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: lucky enough to have the late John Riddard do a
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: fart joke on the show before he passed away. And
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: now we have the great Tom Kavanaugh honoring us with
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: a fart joke. We sprinkled him around. That was sprinkled
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: him around us. Good analogy. Your reaction is tremendous. It's
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: like it's everywhere. It's a man who can't escape it.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: It is so horrible though, when when someone um is
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: flatulent in a car and you don't have control of
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: the window, isn't it just a horrible, horrible moment of life?
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: I think an airplane is worse, but yes, airplane, you
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: don't know who everybody's staring straight ahead, and moment on
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: a plane where you like, you don't want anyone to
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: think it's you react, you have to go, oh, geez.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: I always put my t shirt over my nose so
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: people know, like, oh, he's reacting. It's clearly not him, right.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: It's just like when you go into the bathroom after
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: somebody took a ship and on the airplane, yeah, and
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: then you got to come out and face all the people.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: I'm sure we've talked about. Yeah, we talked about that
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: horrible thing. And especially when you're in the public eye,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: you don't want someone to be like, dude, I was
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: on a plane and Tom Cavanaugh crushed the bathroom and
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: meanwhile you're thinking, like, no, mother effort. That was the
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: I before me. I don't know. I don't know if
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: I'd be that upset, but okay, yeah, I have an
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: anxiety about when I go into a bathroom and it's
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: been just rocked and then I come out and I'm like,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I didn't do that. That was someone before me. I
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: think we should do something anxiety about public restrooms period. Dude, Yeah,
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: you paper, You put toilet paper down on the seat. Listen, man,
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: we could go to the movies the whole family. Back
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: when going to the movies was a thing. We'd be
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: at the movie theater if I and the movie could
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: be five minutes away from starting. If I feel even
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: the slightest bit of a bubble in my guts, We're
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: going home. Oh really, I'm not shitting at a movie there.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: You're poor kids. What do they do? They could cry
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: on the way home, your kids home because you had
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: to poop. Listen. I remember I remember one time going
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: to a club and getting to the club and being
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: at the club and uh, you know, about to dance
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: and it was lit that night, and feeling a bubble
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: in my guts and being like, know what, I'm going home?
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: Oh at restaurants, so you never you never pull in public.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: I try my hardest not to poo in public. I
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: have a phobia of it. It's uh, I don't know, man.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: Do you keep your outings to a concentric circle where
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: you can make the getaway if you have to? No,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: There's been times where I was like, yeah, you I
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: gotta do something. We gotta do something. Do you have friends?
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: It's just something about the public. A public restroom is
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: I used to have that for some reason. I was
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: a kid do it. When I was a kid, I
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: had it. I got over it. But one thing I
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: can't do is if if it were in the men's
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: room and there's and there's a line of stalls, I
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: cannot poo if someone else is in the stall, I
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: have to wait until the stalls are empty. You I
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: can't hear the next mem I just can't sit next
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: here that. But also I can't sit next to the
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: person and they're like farting and you hear them Like
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: I can't. It's too uncomfortable for me. What do you
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: gotta hand it to them for their effort? You really
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: didn't really have to go, you know, I don't want
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: to be that guy. Man, I've been. I've been in
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: the bathroom where another man did that. And I was
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: a kid. I was very young, and it was me
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: and we were doing a commercial. It was a basketball commercial.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: What yeah, it was a basketball commercial. Already jealous, I
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: know we should talk about basketball. You have to come
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: back on because we need to talk about our NBA
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: Entertainment League days and all that stuff. Tom, Tom, were
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: you already since we since you're you Joel, you heard
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: this Dan, you heard this right? So I was invited.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: So that's what that's going to be now, and now
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: you'll be bad. But we were filming a basketball commercial
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: and I was very young and one, but I wasn't
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: young enough where my parents had to be there. But
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: there was one kid who was very young and his
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: dad had to be there, and his dad would play basket.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: We were playing like we were all doing this, you know,
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: uh the commercial. So we were all playing like full
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: courts on other basketball courts and we would play with
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: his dad too. And I remember going to the bathroom,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: me and a bunch of other dudes. We were going
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: to take a leak and the dad was in the
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: bathroom and was having a real hard time pooping, like
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: the type of shit, like the like the type of
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: stuff where it's like, oh god, damn, oh oh shit,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: why why that's always bad? When someone yells why it
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: was taptick. That's the corn. That's the corn. That's the corn. Okay,
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: you don't corn people are might be eating when they
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: listen to this. Okay, we'll cut that out. We'll cut
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: out the corner. No, I want to leave it. I like, okay,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: all right. Anyway, My point is I remember when he
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: came out of the bathroom the shame on his poor
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: son's face, because we were like, you know, your dad's
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: blowing it up. And I think that's where my phobia
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: comes from. I don't want to be that guy. But
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: when I was a kid, my mom took me into
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: the stall with her. You know, I was the of
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: an age where she was obviously not leaving me alone,
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: and a woman was really farting a lot as she
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: was going pooh. And then we came out to the
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: sinks and I apparently turned to the woman and pointed
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: to my mom, that's the lady who was farting. No,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: my mom says, like to this day, that's the most
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: embarrassing moment of her life. Goods all right? Um. The gorilla,
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: by the way, Donald, I literally looked for I looked
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: down in my notes and saw I thought that was
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: really funny reveal. Yeah, I thought that was very I
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: think Ken was ever in the suit. Oh, I don't know.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: That's a great question. A question. Let's ask Bill that one.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: Let's ask Bill, because Bill, I'm sure you want to
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: say hi to the Tom Kavanaugh and um, you know,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: I did notice some of the fans were missing you
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: and you're sabotaging our show by yelling the secret numbers?
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: So billum, was Ken Jenkins ever in the guerrilla suit?
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: And also say hi to Tom Kavanaugh? Bill, Hey, guys,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: how are you doing? Um? Question number? Ken Jenkins in
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: that guerrilla suit? I seem to recall is what I
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: love about Ken, you know, trying to be respectful of
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: actors as like, of course, Ken, if you want to
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: be the guy in this suit, you know we And
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: I think he cut me off and said, Bill, it
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: is not gonna You're not gonna see me. I don't
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: care if I'm ever in that grills. So I do
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: not think Ken Jenkins was ever in that thing? Um?
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: Pretty sure? Uh? And uh I respect him more for it.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Also got to say, man, not only one of my
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: favorite guest stars on the show, but an all time
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: good buddy Tom Kavanaugh. Hello, sir, oh hi Tom? Hey?
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: How you doing? Man? I don't mean to steal this podcast,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: but it has been way too long since we've seen
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: each other. It's been a has got to be at
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: least like for like five or six or seven or
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: eight months. No, thank you, of course, Guy turn season two,
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: Dan get a new you need a new trick, trying
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: to hijack our show. You know, speaking of tricks, the
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: janitor never does his trick. I was I was asking.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: I was about to ask that it's a writing it's
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: a writing flow of Bill. Sorry, what was that about?
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: Since you just tried to hijack our show by saying
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: the numbers, I will tell you, even though now you
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: can't reply that, Uh yeah, you're fighting up or Tim Hober,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: Tim sucked up, some sucked up. Why do you lay
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: in that the janitor's gonna do a trick and he
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: never does. I think it's a mislead for him being
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: in the gorilla suit. But but he's he's like twice
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: Ken's height, so that doesn't really work. Just saying, um,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: do you want to talk about how great it was
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: to have Tom Kavanaugh on the podcast? Dude, you have
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: to come back. You've already said you will. I'm gonna
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: force your hand. That was a classic misplay on your
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: two guys parts. Here you guys, you guys like, hey, Tom,
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: come back. It's like he's obsessive. Joel's gonna be like
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: he all. He doesn't even me. He's like this episode,
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: he's just come back, come back, Okay, can I come back? Dude? Love,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: we have some stories. You and I we've played a
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: lot of basketball together. And so the next time you're
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: on next episode, you guys will talk sports ball. Yeah,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: you can go grab a t and we'll like, we'll
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: talk hoops and then you can come back then minutes later,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: come back. I will just put on Dear Evan Hanson
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: and listen a whole time, and you guys will wave
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: on the zoom call when it's old perfect. No, seriously, man,
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: we love you. You're great. I'm so happy to be
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: part of this. Thank you guys for having me on.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you, and thank you to Daniel and
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Joelle and uh and Donald do you want to lead
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: us in this song? I love you Donald, Phazon, I
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: love you Zach Brath and we love you listeners. Thank
