Transcript
- 0:00Philip Pape: Hey, what's up guys?
- 0:00Philip Pape: Quick bonus episode today.
- 0:02Philip Pape: And I need to give you a warning before you even think about hiring a coach or joining a nutrition program, it's something I've been thinking about a lot, as I have had folks come into my program, either one-on-one or our group program, whitson Weights Physique University, and their initial thought is wow, there's a lot of content here, there are a lot of steps.
- 0:23Philip Pape: I'm feeling a little bit overwhelmed.
- 0:25Philip Pape: I'm not sure if this is right for me Now.
- 0:27Philip Pape: Granted, that could be a fault of mine in the marketing of this and setting expectations, so I'm working on that.
- 0:33Philip Pape: But this is a mistake that I see all the time, where people tell themselves I need to get more consistent before I start, or I need to lose a little weight before I sign up, or I should probably figure out my macros first, because what I'll get from individuals who say like I feel like this isn't right for me, I'll say, well, what is it?
- 0:51Philip Pape: Does it feel overwhelming?
- 0:52Philip Pape: Because usually that's the case, and sometimes I'll say, yeah, there's, there's a lot of stuff, there's a lot of content, there's a lot of things.
- 1:06Philip Pape: I don't think, I think this is too stressful and I'll say, well, you know, I've had clients in this program and I can connect you with them who felt the same way and then, when they started tracking and getting awareness of what's going on with their body, it actually reduced stress significantly and helped them be consistent.
- 1:13Philip Pape: In addition, having that support, having people, having a coach who can look at what you're doing and give you a fresh perspective, without any skin in the game you know they don't have an emotional attachment to you Could be exactly what you need.
- 1:26Philip Pape: So it's kind of like saying, hey, I need to get in shape before I hire a personal trainer, or I should probably, you know, fix my engine before I take my car to the mechanic, right?
- 1:35Philip Pape: I mean, do you see the problem there?
- 1:36Philip Pape: So if you could do it on your own, you wouldn't be looking for help in the first place.
- 1:42Philip Pape: If what worked in the past worked for you, you you wouldn't be looking for help in the first place.
- 1:46Philip Pape: If what worked in the past worked for you, you wouldn't be looking for something that's going to work right.
- 1:48Philip Pape: It's kind of a little chicken and egg thing, and the reason I thought of this is not only individuals who I see come into my program, but also talking to other coaches, like, for example, I just recorded with Nikki Sims Barbell Logic and her episode is coming out soon, um, and she was talking about how, even for herself, she's got coaches who have helped her fix her form or help her learn how to train.
- 2:12Philip Pape: That would have taken months and months and months.
- 2:14Philip Pape: I felt the same thing.
- 2:15Philip Pape: I hired a coach here in Connecticut for one hour when I was learning to lift and it fixed like six months of my uh issues.
- 2:23Philip Pape: I have people who join our coaching program and they've struggled for years with.
- 2:26Philip Pape: They've tried intermittent fasting.
- 2:27Philip Pape: They've tried, you know, lots of cardio.
- 2:29Philip Pape: Maybe they have been lifting weights and something's not quite working.
- 2:33Philip Pape: Um, you, if you haven't already, you'll hear a case study with uh Cassandra, who is in that same situation.
- 2:39Philip Pape: She was like trying to lose that last 10 pounds.
- 2:41Philip Pape: She knew all of what to do and yet somehow it wasn't working.
- 2:45Philip Pape: So you know, a good coach isn't here to take an already perfect plan and just make it better, right?
- 2:50Philip Pape: A coach is here to take the messy, inconsistent, overwhelming, frustrating experience of trying to do it on your own and then turn it into something simple and structured and sustainable.
- 3:01Philip Pape: Now, if you feel like, after you talk to a coach or join a program.
- 3:05Philip Pape: It's still not simple or sustainable, but sure there could be a problem with how that program set up or it could be that they are not delivering what you need for you.
- 3:14Philip Pape: So it's always.
- 3:15Philip Pape: You always want to raise your hand and say, hey, this isn't working for me.
- 3:17Philip Pape: Can you help me out?
- 3:18Philip Pape: And if it's, if it's me, if you're in my program, you, you can ask anybody.
- 3:26Philip Pape: I will personally reach out and have like a back and forth conversation and really get into the weeds of how do we make this work for you, because the last thing I want to do is, um, see you fail.
- 3:33Philip Pape: Like I take it personally when people don't succeed with me, and that almost never happens.
- 3:38Philip Pape: The only reason it ever happens is when someone is just not committed.
- 3:41Philip Pape: Right, if you're committed and and I'm not even saying you're doing all the work right away, because I get that it takes time to build the momentum just being committed, just having the will to say yes, that I need help and leaning on the help system to do that, and not saying, hey, I need to be more consistent before I work with a coach, no, it's the opposite.
- 4:05Philip Pape: If consistency is the problem, then guess what Having a coach makes it easier, not harder, like having a good coach, of course.
- 4:11Philip Pape: So if you're telling yourself like I will join when I'm ready, ask yourself this what is going to change between now and then?
- 4:20Philip Pape: If the true answer if you're honest with yourself is, well, nothing, because this is what I've been doing then what you really need is a system that works for you, not a new burst of motivation that fades the moment that life gets busy.
- 4:33Philip Pape: Not, hey, I'm gonna go listen to Wits and Weights.
- 4:35Philip Pape: Philip has all this great information, I'm just gonna take action from that.
- 4:40Philip Pape: Sometimes that is not enough, and that is why hiring a coach isn't about being ready.
- 4:44Philip Pape: It's about getting out of your own way and then making real progress now, not six months from now, when you're still spinning your wheels.
- 4:52Philip Pape: And, by the way, here's, here's the irony when you join my coaching program, I will tell you I want you to take it slow.
- 4:59Philip Pape: I don't want you to binge all the content.
- 5:01Philip Pape: I don't want you to like try to do all the steps in one day, and we're not even going to start fat loss for probably four to four to eight weeks.
- 5:08Philip Pape: And if you're hearing this right now, you're like oh, that sounds awful.
- 5:11Philip Pape: I want I got to lose the weight now.
- 5:12Philip Pape: That's the problem when you take this methodical approach.
- 5:16Philip Pape: What then happens?
- 5:17Philip Pape: When you do it the right way tracking, measuring, the right things you start to make progress and it becomes extremely invigorating.
- 5:24Philip Pape: You get the confidence and after about two months now you're dialed in across the board with consistency.
- 5:32Philip Pape: Now you're ready to hit the fat loss, if you even want to buy that Cause.
- 5:36Philip Pape: By then you might've made some gains and improvements in your body composition.
- 5:39Philip Pape: And you might say you know what?
- 5:40Philip Pape: I actually don't want to be in a deficit right now, because my body is improving already.
- 5:45Philip Pape: And then, of course, and then you make lots of progress and then, four or six months from when you start, you've now achieved the thing you wanted to achieve that took you years and years of struggling not to achieve and that you still won't achieve if you don't start now.
- 5:59Philip Pape: So, before you put this off again, ask yourself would future you be grateful that you started now or that you waited another six months, another year, another two years, another five years?
- 6:10Philip Pape: I think you know the answer.
- 6:11Philip Pape: All right, that's it for today.
- 6:12Philip Pape: If this hits home, let me know, shoot me a DM on Instagram at witsandweights that's one way to reach out to me or you could always drop a review in Apple or Spotify.
