- 0:06Brian: Hey there! How's it going?
- 0:09Richard: Yeah.
- 0:11Richard: It's going relatively well.
- 0:15Richard: Relatively.
- 0:16Richard: I might be ill soon, I don't know.
- 0:18Richard: My grandson is ill and I feel a little tingle in my head, so maybe I'm about to get it.
- 0:24Richard: We don't know.
- 0:25Richard: Other than that, it's going great, Bri.
- 0:27Richard: How about how about you guys?
- 0:29Brian: Um, I got my third way huge pedal today.
- 0:32Brian: I haven't opened it yet.
- 0:33Brian: I just it just arrived.
- 0:35Richard: Was that the only pedal that turned up today, Bri?
- 0:37Brian: No, nope.
- 0:38Brian: I got um I got what was I gotta look at my reverb.
- 0:42Brian: I forgot I got.
- 0:43Brian: I know I have the super lead, I have the the red llama.
- 0:46Blake: I mean, I like the red llama.
- 0:48Brian: There's another pedal coming to you, Brian.
- 0:50Brian: Hasn't that turned up yet?
- 0:52Brian: Not yet.
- 0:53Brian: The fat sandwich just drives.
- 0:55Brian: And then I'll get a Reverend Drivetrain uh here in a few days.
- 0:59Brian: So Okay.
- 1:00Brian: Good days.
- 1:01Brian: Good week to be Brian.
- 1:03Brian: Yeah.
- 1:03Brian: I mean, it's you know what?
- 1:04Brian: I thought I've got a company credit card.
- 1:07Brian: I'll need to buy some pedals this week.
- 1:09Brian: It's for RD.
- 1:11Brian: Research.
- 1:12Brian: Let's go at research and development.
- 1:14Blake: Oh, yeah.
- 1:15Blake: My favorite thing to do is RD.
- 1:16Blake: RD.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: What else I need is a 1969 Plexy.
- 1:21Blake: Ah.
- 1:22Blake: Well, how can you know if you're authentically recreating the tones if you don't have one to compare it to?
- 1:27Blake: Exactly my point.
- 1:28Brian: One from each year.
- 1:29Brian: They all sound different.
- 1:30Richard: They all sound a little different.
- 1:32Richard: James Marshall.
- 1:34Richard: Not each year.
- 1:35Richard: That's a collection worth having.
- 1:37Brian: That's true.
- 1:38Brian: Yeah.
- 1:38Brian: Week and technician.
- 1:42Richard: This is my collection of John Cruise guitars.
- 1:46Richard: Uh yeah, that would be amazing.
- 1:48Richard: So you've got your you've got your complete collection of way huge pedals.
- 1:53Richard: Did they all arrive in three dimensions or were any of them two-dimensional?
- 1:59Brian: Well, on my Facebook page, you'll notice that there was a I got shipped one of them by a music store, mind you.
- 2:07Brian: Oh, really?
- 2:08Brian: In a yeah, by a music store.
- 2:11Brian: That, and it wasn't sweetwater.
- 2:13Brian: Um, they you know, like the book packaging, it's like an inch thick or whatever at the most.
- 2:18Brian: Yeah, it's medium.
- 2:19Brian: Yeah.
- 2:20Brian: They did that stuff, just stuck a pedal in there and like taped around, like, ah, good enough.
- 2:25Brian: Was it even in a box like in there?
- 2:27Brian: Was it just no raw pedal?
- 2:29Brian: No, it was just the pedals stuck in there.
- 2:30Brian: I think it had some plastic around it or something.
- 2:33Brian: Oh wow.
- 2:35Brian: Wow.
- 2:35Brian: And I because I mean I thought it was a person, and I'm like, no, this is a legit music store with like 10,000 reviews, five star.
- 2:45Brian: And they like I can't imagine that ever being okay.
- 2:50Blake: That is that's bonkers.
- 2:52Richard: It's crazy.
- 2:54Richard: For for the listeners that don't see Brian's um Facebook feed, um, congratulations on retaining your sanity.
- 3:02Richard: Uh, and also let me describe this to you.
- 3:05Richard: Imagine a sandwich made out of wonder bread.
- 3:09Richard: That is essentially what the package looked like.
- 3:12Richard: Yeah, the pedal must have been incredibly slim line.
- 3:17Richard: Yeah, I was looking at that.
- 3:18Richard: I'm like, there's a pedal in there?
- 3:20Brian: Right.
- 3:20Brian: I thought it would be just smashed to pieces, but it works so far.
- 3:23Richard: So far, the uh the stomp switch is permanently on, but other than that, it's fine.
- 3:30Brian: Right.
- 3:30Brian: Who needs that pesky stomp switch, anyways?
- 3:33Brian: Really?
- 3:33Brian: And do you really need the knobs to turn?
- 3:35Blake: No, yeah, and yeah, come on, a red llamasn's always on.
- 3:40Blake: Everyone knows that.
- 3:41Blake: High game distortion always stays on.
- 3:43Richard: Hey, I wonder if anyone has ever made like really low profile knobs on a pedal.
- 3:48Richard: I guess the clon centaur is kind of low profile.
- 3:52Brian: Well, I mean, take the Ibanez uh seven slugs.
- 3:55Blake: Yep, mm-hmm.
- 3:55Brian: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:58Blake: I will say, as a fan of that series, uh, that is a fun idea.
- 4:02Blake: Sometimes they get a little stuck in there, and that's not very fun.
- 4:06Richard: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:06Richard: Fun ideas often are just impractical wastes of time.
- 4:10Richard: That is a problem I have noticed.
- 4:11Blake: Crazy though, though, is that series genuinely has some really interesting and cool sounding pedals.
- 4:16Blake: Absolutely.
- 4:17Blake: They didn't need the uh the novelty.
- 4:19Blake: They just sound great, but yeah, switching's very finicky, and the knobs are, like we said, kind of kind of gimmicky.
- 4:28Blake: And also, they're kind of boring looking, if we're being real.
- 4:32Brian: But I really aren't most pedals from that era, you know.
- 4:35Brian: I mean, like some would say classic, like boss, for example, but really it's just a color with a name on it.
- 4:42Blake: Yeah, but this doesn't even do the color, it's just gray.
- 4:46Blake: I guess it's got a little splash of color in the logo.
- 4:49Blake: A little splash, kind of like the sound tank, the five series.
- 4:51Brian: Except for this one.
- 4:52Brian: Except for yeah, you that's right.
- 4:54Brian: You've got a funky one that not everyone has.
- 4:57Brian: I got this one, the pink DE7 delight.
- 5:01Brian: It was like I'd never seen it, I'd never seen a pink one before.
- 5:04Blake: I believe it was uh Japan only.
- 5:07Blake: I'd say nothing.
- 5:08Blake: It's too easy, listeners.
- 5:10Richard: It's too easy.
- 5:11Blake: Oh, Richard, get your head out of the guy.
- 5:14Blake: How dare you! How dare you! Uh, and I think I've mentioned on this podcast before that Josh Scotch sent me that.
- 5:20Blake: Thanks, Josh.
- 5:20Blake: You're the man.
- 5:21Blake: Really?
- 5:22Blake: Yes.
- 5:22Blake: Well, I really want a pink one.
- 5:24Blake: He's like, oh, I got some of those.
- 5:26Blake: Yeah, I can see Josh.
- 5:27Blake: I've got like 80 of them.
- 5:29Blake: Here's one.
- 5:30Richard: Yeah, you mentioned Josh a little bit too early in the show.
- 5:33Richard: We'll come back to him later.
- 5:34Richard: Uh but uh the pedal survived.
- 5:37Richard: Do you like the Way Huge collection?
- 5:40Brian: I actually, I mean, obviously I've known of George Tripps and Way Huge for years and years, but I had never I never had one.
- 5:48Brian: Not for any good reason either.
- 5:49Brian: I just never came across one.
- 5:51Brian: So that's that's why I like I was thinking like I don't have any Way Huge and I really need some.
- 5:55Brian: That's why I splurged and bought three.
- 5:58Brian: Um but these were my first, and oh I take that back.
- 6:02Brian: I have the Echo the um the delay pedal, the uh what's it called?
- 6:07Brian: Oh I think it's way huge.
- 6:10Blake: It's completely escaped me too.
- 6:12Blake: I can picture it in my head.
- 6:13Blake: The green one.
- 6:14Blake: Yes.
- 6:15Brian: Anyways, the echo something?
- 6:18Richard: I don't remember.
- 6:19Richard: I'm not gonna say anything.
- 6:20Richard: I like to see you both f flaund.
- 6:23Brian: I could search the internet for way huge delay pedals.
- 6:27Brian: Aquapus!
- 6:29Richard: I was gonna say superpuss, but yeah.
- 6:30Richard: No, that's a different one.
- 6:32Brian: Yeah, I got I do I I do have an aquapus, so um but the other the dirt side didn't have.
- 6:38Brian: I needed those, I got them.
- 6:40Brian: I would say they're they're different from what I expected.
- 6:47Brian: I mean, I I'd played through Red Llama or uh the Red Llama Circuit, which is the Craig Anderson tube sound fuzz, I think it's called.
- 6:54Brian: Um that's that type of circuit it's a good thing.
- 6:57Brian: But I played through that before, and I I haven't been like a huge fan of it stock, but respect just didn't do the thing for me.
- 7:04Brian: And so our you know, obviously the red llama being pretty much a clone of that, it does what it does.
- 7:12Brian: The other ones, the super lead, I um it does a thing that just doesn't work for me.
- 7:21Brian: It's not that it's bad.
- 7:23Brian: And this this is I always come back to this.
- 7:24Brian: Like, even if I get it, even if I get a pedal, I'm like, oh, it's not my ideal of a great pedal, but I can find uses that it works great at.
- 7:35Brian: But you know, if I'm chicken picking, I don't need the red llama fuzz, for example.
- 7:39Blake: It's not gonna work for you.
- 7:40Blake: That's but right.
- 7:41Blake: But like you can also probably sit back and go, like, I see why Blake likes it.
- 7:45Brian: Yeah, yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
- 7:46Brian: So so I get to a setting, I'm like, yeah, this is a cool setting.
- 7:49Brian: It's out, this part's cool of it.
- 7:51Brian: So that's that's kind of what I've noticed is there's there's bits and pieces that I'm like, now that's a cool sound, you know, or or I could see a use in this other context.
- 7:59Blake: I see that all the time, you know.
- 8:00Blake: So you'll you'll go into forums and you'll see people be like, this pedal sucks, with no real like anything.
- 8:07Blake: And I'm like, I don't know, man.
- 8:09Blake: Not there's I've played a lot of pedals, and I have only found like maybe two ever that I'm like, I can't find a single use for this.
- 8:19Brian: It was like this one that was shaped like a piece of pizza once.
- 8:22Richard: That one was who could put that on my board?
- 8:24Richard: I've already explained that was a pizza that you were stomping on, you were drunk.
- 8:28Richard: Oh that's why it wasn't making much sound.
- 8:32Blake: I can't even plug into it.
- 8:33Richard: It's slippy and everything.
- 8:35Richard: Uh no, I mean, even the much-hated um, I think it was Digitech, the the crossroads Eric Clapton pedal.
- 8:43Richard: I I mean you can still get a good sound out of it.
- 8:45Brian: I can find good sounds out of it.
- 8:46Richard: Yeah, there's one, maybe two, but yeah, it it's not the greatest pedal, but it is, it's all subjective.
- 8:52Richard: It it is all subjective, you know.
- 8:53Blake: I remember wait.
- 8:55Blake: Somebody like uh, I don't know, some indie artist is gonna use the crossroads pedal on a track and everyone's gonna be like, what is that sound?
- 9:02Blake: What is that sound?
- 9:03Blake: And then all of a sudden crossroads are gonna be six hundred dollars.
- 9:06Blake: It's gonna happen at some point.
- 9:08Richard: No, uh yeah, you're a hundred percent correct.
- 9:11Richard: It it comes like the first distortion pedal I fell in love with and spent years chasing the tone of, and then when I got it, I was disappointed, but you know, it it held a place in my heart, is one that everyone hates, which is the boss turbo distortion.
- 9:28Richard: But I loved like the turbo distortion.
- 9:31Brian: That's the OD2.
- 9:33Blake: Uh I think it's a completely different thing, if I remember correctly.
- 9:36Brian: Yeah, it's a that's a DS2.
- 9:39Richard: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:41Richard: Yeah, it it's really not loved by anyone except 15-year-old Ribbon.
- 9:45Brian: That's another one where I um I I've I I dig it.
- 9:50Brian: I could find uses for it.
- 9:52Brian: Yeah, and looking at this and looking at the circuit, that's even one of those things where I'm like, that's a kind of a cool circuit, you know.
- 9:58Richard: Oh, Bri, don't tempt me.
- 10:00Richard: The idea of a Wampla turbo distortion.
- 10:03Richard: Oh, I may expire at the thought.
- 10:06Brian: Yeah, what about a double HM2, heavy metal?
- 10:08Richard: Yeah, we're talking and how about that?
- 10:11Richard: Don't knock it.
- 10:13Richard: Yep.
- 10:14Richard: Uh definitely don't knock it.
- 10:15Brian: Well, um, I'm glad we could call it the manager dual overdrive.
- 10:20Brian: Okay.
- 10:21Brian: The manager?
- 10:22Brian: Yeah, for boss.
- 10:23Richard: Nurse.
- 10:23Richard: Nurse, he's got out again.
- 10:28Richard: The middle manager dual dual overdrive.
- 10:31Richard: No, Bri, I tell you what we could call it the strategy.
- 10:35Richard: That's what we should call it.
- 10:36Richard: The strategy.
- 10:37Richard: The one plus strategy.
- 10:39Richard: Actually, that's not a bad name for a pedal.
- 10:41Blake: Actually, I got I got it.
- 10:44Blake: Synergy.
- 10:45Blake: Whoa.
- 10:46Blake: Yeah.
- 10:47Blake: Wait a minute.
- 10:48Blake: You know what?
- 10:49Brian: That's a good name.
- 10:50Brian: I'm gonna write that down.
- 10:50Blake: Yeah, write that down.
- 10:51Blake: The one plus everyone's talking about synergy in the corporate world.
- 10:54Blake: Why can't that be a pedal?
- 10:56Richard: I flipping hate it when corporate people talk about synergies.
- 11:00Richard: Conversely, I love it when guitar people talk about synergies.
- 11:03Richard: It's my current amp of choice.
- 11:05Richard: So uh yeah, I'm digging that.
- 11:08Richard: But um so I I'm gonna f I'm gonna wind up to the new JHS release because JHS have released a new uh pedal.
- 11:17Richard: Uh, but I'm gonna get there via a book that is only vaguely related, but the thread follows.
- 11:26Richard: So uh listeners of the show may have picked up on the name of somebody who has been an exec producer for a while, who's also now a famously published author, which is a chap called Jay Stratton.
- 11:42Richard: And he has released a book called Out of the Shadows.
- 11:45Richard: He's also a phenomenal guitar player, more on that later.
- 11:48Richard: Now, this book, Out of the Shadows, is about his life working for the US Air Force and then latterly the UAP programs, um, unidentified aerial phenomena.
- 12:04Richard: Let me just tell you folks, and particularly Blake and Brian, I listened to the first three chapters today.
- 12:09Richard: My mind is blown.
- 12:13Richard: Like he is the most credible person I've ever spoken to about this subject.
- 12:18Richard: And in the first chapter, he basically says well, not even in the first chapter, in the introduction, he basically says he has had his whole lifetime like interrupted by non-human intelligence.
- 12:32Richard: And when you hear that from someone like Jay, you a lump comes to your throat and the hairs on the back of your head stand up.
- 12:41Brian: Well, and keep in mind, like, this isn't a person that just created a TikTok channel talking about UFOs.
- 12:48Brian: Right.
- 12:49Richard: This is not this is not Joe Rogan stoned men just sat there going, I saw the lights, man.
- 12:55Richard: Yeah.
- 12:56Richard: Right, he was the director at the gas station.
- 12:58Richard: Hey man, I know what I saw.
- 13:00Richard: I know what I saw, right?
- 13:02Richard: I mean, he might be at weekends, we don't know.
- 13:04Richard: But this is someone who has worked at the highest levels of the US military uh and has spoken to people from all over the world looking for information, and the stuff he reveals in this book is probably the most exciting UFO book I've ever got into.
- 13:20Richard: And I gotta say, as soon as we finish recording, I'm probably gonna start listening again.
- 13:24Brian: It's on Audible as well as I have the Amazon page pulled up right now to hit buy here in a minute.
- 13:29Richard: So yep.
- 13:30Richard: Uh he talks, and I mentioned this before.
- 13:33Richard: I I kind of glibly talked about a triangular UFO over the Pentagon as being one of the things that's actually over the White House, I think.
- 13:40Richard: And we talked about it being a bit, you know, independence day y.
- 13:44Richard: But he talks about seeing an aircraft in high-definition photo and video that is triangular with rounded corners that performs manoeuvres that no aeroplane should be able to do.
- 13:57Richard: And when you again, when you hear that coming from somebody who has literally designed parts of fighter jets, you you stop and listen.
- 14:06Richard: This is one hell of a book on UFOs, listeners, um, and uh gentlemen.
- 14:13Richard: So I really, really recommend it.
- 14:14Richard: Um and I'm only four chapters in at the moment, I think.
- 14:17Blake: Wow.
- 14:18Blake: This is gonna be I want to get the book, uh, but I kind of want to do the audible version.
- 14:24Blake: This seems like this is a sauna listen for sure.
- 14:28Richard: I mean, it I was disappointed at first because I read the audible description, it didn't say read by the author where I was looking.
- 14:35Richard: It was like, you know, read by blah blah, but blah blah is some eminent professor who does like an introduction.
- 14:42Richard: It is read by the author, and it was like, this is so cool listening to Jay tell his story.
- 14:47Richard: This is this is definitely I would say in the world of ufology, this is the damn gold mine.
- 14:57Blake: Oh boy.
- 14:58Blake: So well, yeah, I was I do was doing a little messaging with Jay, and you know, we we hope to speak with him at some juncture.
- 15:05Richard: So he he's in a band which has a amusing sci-fi related name, and I would like very much to get him and his uh partner in crime in the band.
- 15:17Richard: I think his name is Dr.
- 15:18Richard: Travis Taylor.
- 15:19Richard: Have I got that right?
- 15:20Richard: Uh I I better get it right because otherwise that that's worth Googling.
- 15:25Richard: We don't want to watch.
- 15:26Richard: I think it is.
- 15:27Richard: I have yes, it is, yes, yes.
- 15:28Richard: Yeah, it's Travis Taylor, the rocket scientist from Skinwalker Ranch programs.
- 15:33Richard: If we can get those two on this show, I'm done.
- 15:36Richard: You may as well send me home.
- 15:38Blake: What are we gonna be recording for like four and a half hours?
- 15:40Blake: Because there's I got so many questions.
- 15:43Richard: I mean, the thing is, is he's obviously a man who knows the uh security service as well.
- 15:50Richard: So he's not gonna tell us anything that he hasn't already published.
- 15:53Richard: Sure.
- 15:53Richard: Now it's published, we're gonna bump him for information.
- 15:57Blake: I I want to know about the Skinwalker Ranch thing too, though, because there's a lot of I mean, there are some legitimately unexplainable stuff going on there.
- 16:04Blake: Oh crazy.
- 16:05Richard: When he talks about it in the book, he's like, and this year I went to investigate Skinwalker Farm where there'd been reports of animal mutilations, strange lights, glowing orbs, portals to other dimensions.
- 16:19Richard: I'm like, right, this is what I'm here for.
- 16:22Richard: Give me those portals.
- 16:24Blake: Yes.
- 16:25Blake: I I think cat like cattle mutilation is probably one of the most strange and one of the most documented like of things.
- 16:34Blake: This this is happening.
- 16:36Brian: Maybe some people just maybe maybe the aliens just like their steak.
- 16:40Brian: They just they leave the steak.
- 16:42Brian: That's the thing.
- 16:43Brian: They take the blood and leave the steak.
- 16:47Brian: Maybe they're English.
- 16:47Brian: They like blood pudding.
- 16:49Richard: Oh, well, actually, I think we've figured it out.
- 16:51Richard: This is not as crazy as it seems.
- 16:53Richard: All right.
- 16:53Richard: I have got a confession to make, Blake.
- 16:56Richard: Uh inside your pedal that is on its way to you, I have tried to draw a black pudding.
- 17:03Richard: Oh boy.
- 17:04Richard: I I hope my rendition is okay, because if not, your wife might look at it and think I'm sending you another message.
- 17:13Richard: So just leave it at that, alright?
- 17:15Blake: Oh man.
- 17:16Blake: I've been checking my veil box every day.
- 17:19Richard: It's coming to, sir.
- 17:20Richard: Is it today?
- 17:21Richard: It it'll probably it'll probably be tomorrow.
- 17:23Richard: Well, it'll probably be this.
- 17:24Brian: Wait, it's gonna be this one.
- 17:25Brian: Did you put it in a box designed for something the size of a guitar pedal?
- 17:29Richard: No, I actually put yours inside an actual sandwich, Brian.
- 17:32Richard: Yours is gonna come with baloney and uh mayonnaise.
- 17:36Richard: It's in a Ziploc bag, it'll be fine.
- 17:38Richard: I've gone to a lot of trouble to research what gets to America without being destroyed.
- 17:42Richard: So all of my pedals, uh OliverFX.co.uk, um, ship in a double-walled extra large container, which is nine inches by six by six, and then inside that there's bubble wrap and another box with bubble wrap.
- 17:59Blake: I was gonna say, if you want to you want to ensure it gets to America without being destroyed, you just put in a put in a cheeseburger because we'll care that.
- 18:07Brian: Yeah, it's like a stacking doll of boxes, right?
- 18:10Richard: Yes, it's like a Russian doll of boxes, exactly that, Brian.
- 18:14Richard: Um, I wanted to send you guys some other stuff, but it was late, and I didn't want it to get caught up at customs.
- 18:20Richard: Why does this smell funny?
- 18:22Richard: This is one of Brian's pets, isn't it?
- 18:26Richard: Uh yeah, Jay's book.
- 18:28Richard: Go lit go check it out, read it, buy it.
- 18:30Richard: Um, guys, I'm really excited for you both to get into it and talk to me about it, because at the moment I think I'm gonna be visited by the men in black.
- 18:38Richard: And actually, there's another story.
- 18:40Richard: He talks about Project Blue Book.
- 18:42Richard: Uh Blue Book?
- 18:43Richard: Project Blue Book, which I knew about, but I didn't know this.
- 18:47Richard: He said at some point in the past, a group of black-suited people came into the Pentagon and essentially erased all files to do with all the UFO work under Project Blue Book.
- 19:02Richard: And it was not just like we're taking away your files, they erased everything.
- 19:07Richard: Like here's the other thing I didn't know, and I should have put two and two together.
- 19:12Richard: Jay was in the Pentagon when it was struck on 9-11.
- 19:15Richard: And really, oh wow, he he talks about that in and he's got a very military way of talking, it's all very matter-of-fact statement, proposition, the odd cigar smoke uh reference.
- 19:29Richard: But generally, it's really matter-of fact.
- 19:31Richard: And when he like again, you you know how I feel about 9-11.
- 19:34Richard: Um, and when I heard his story, I was like, I I'm so stupid for not realizing he would have been there.
- 19:40Richard: Of course, he would have.
- 19:41Richard: Of course, yeah.
- 19:42Richard: Yeah, the timing lines up perfectly.
- 19:43Richard: Yeah, so it's a honestly, this is a great, great book.
- 19:46Richard: And I'm only four chapters in, I've got like nine hours left to listen to.
- 19:50Richard: So that's tomorrow's dog walk sorted.
- 19:52Brian: Oh boy, you're gonna walk your dog for nine hours.
- 19:56Richard: He's gonna come back.
- 19:58Richard: It's gonna be like that scene in uh in National Lampoons Vacation where the police officer comes up to the car and he stands, Clark, the lead.
- 20:10Richard: Um so swiftly segueing professionally on, Josh Scott of JHS has been teasing a pedal for a few weeks and it's come out today, and it is UFO themed.
- 20:23Richard: I think it's called The Wanderer, The Traveller, one of those two, I forget which exactly.
- 20:28Richard: Um Wayfarer, or maybe I don't know.
- 20:30Richard: The Wayfarer find out, yeah.
- 20:32Richard: Yeah, um, but it's it's actually, I think it might be painted the same colour as the um Tumnus Germanium editions because it's in like a UFO silver colour, and it's one side is a clon, and the other side is a bluesbreaker clone, which is their the morning glory is their bluesbreaker clone, I think, right?
- 20:52Richard: So clon, uh blues breaker, the other side.
- 20:56Richard: The wanderer.
- 20:57Richard: There it is.
- 20:57Richard: The wanderer, there we go.
- 20:58Brian: Now, the not a clon was something you assembled it yours yourself, right?
- 21:02Brian: So do you have to assemble this side of the battle?
- 21:04Richard: Uh just that side.
- 21:05Richard: Only that side.
- 21:06Richard: Yeah, only that side.
- 21:07Richard: Wow, that would be and the minute you do, you void your warranty on the other side.
- 21:12Richard: That would be a great move, Josh.
- 21:15Richard: You could self self-imolate all your warranties by introducing the curiosity factor.
- 21:22Richard: Uh, I mean, that's a solid partnership.
- 21:25Richard: Klon into uh well, Tumnus into Pantheon has been one of my favorite combinations for a long time.
- 21:31Richard: So that's a solid uh double pedal.
- 21:34Richard: Uh, it's also quite neat.
- 21:35Richard: What he's done is he's taken the switches because both of them had two modes, two voices, I guess, and he's added remote switches so you can put two remotes into this pedal and therefore use that to control both of those voices.
- 21:51Brian: So if you know essentially you could have a four voice pedal if I like to have an iPhone app that I can control my pedal with.
- 21:58Richard: Can you do that?
- 21:59unknown: Uh back.
- 22:00Richard: We can do is a red remote switch on this one.
- 22:02Richard: Yeah.
- 22:03Richard: I like to use a telex machine to communicate via long distance with my pedal board.
- 22:10Richard: Is that all right?
- 22:11Richard: It's a way to do it.
- 22:12Richard: But look, I mean, it will sell by the truckload.
- 22:15Richard: We know that JHS has a um a rabid fan base that will eat up anything he puts out.
- 22:22Richard: So that would be a good idea.
- 22:23Blake: Have you guys been to the website and looked at their product photos for this yet?
- 22:26Blake: They are probably brilliant.
- 22:28Blake: Probably the my favorite that they've ever done.
- 22:29Blake: Yeah.
- 22:30Blake: I love this.
- 22:30Richard: They've done a load of kind of like X-Files themed styled photos, which are this is great.
- 22:37Richard: I mean, honestly, it's a very, very rich vein of source material, the UFO world.
- 22:42Richard: And I'm kind of envious that they've got there before us because let's face it, we've literally we are the UFO guys when it comes to guitar pedals.
- 22:52unknown: Not anymore.
- 22:53Blake: You know, I I think uh just from a pure aesthetic standpoint, JHS has their thing that they do, right?
- 22:59Blake: It's very established, and you mean once you have a thing like that, you can't really deviate from it.
- 23:04Blake: I think this is the best execution aesthetically of their thing.
- 23:09Richard: Yeah, it's it's one of my favorite um graphics of theirs for sure.
- 23:14Richard: Um I would have been tempted to make those red flames have LEDs embedded in them because I always look to do that.
- 23:21Richard: But I think I mean, I think I don't know whether it was Daniel, I don't want to say his surname, it's like Nijek or something, Nijek, who was Daniel Danger.
- 23:30Richard: Daniel Danger, other people will know him as who's a brilliant artist.
- 23:33Richard: And I don't know whether he's done this, uh he does all of their graphics.
- 23:37Richard: He is definitely one of the industry.
- 23:39Richard: I think he does all their graphics.
- 23:40Richard: I think he's done some of their stuff.
- 23:41Richard: Yeah, I I don't really know, but if it is one of his uh kudos, it's a great piece of work.
- 23:46Blake: It's great, and I think the the choice of the MXR knobs with the red indicators.
- 23:52Blake: Uh everyone's called these MXR style knobs forever, so that's what I'm gonna call them.
- 23:56Blake: Uh they're fluted knobs, technically.
- 23:58Blake: Fluted, yeah.
- 23:59Blake: That doesn't sound as good.
- 24:00Blake: I don't want to say that.
- 24:02Blake: That sounds wrong.
- 24:03Blake: No, sounds like you did something bad.
- 24:05Blake: That's what they're called.
- 24:07Blake: I know.
- 24:08Blake: But that I think it uh it all pulls together really nicely on this one.
- 24:12Richard: I think so.
- 24:12Richard: It's a it's a nice design.
- 24:14Richard: Again, you know, I mean, putting two killer drives in a single pedal, who would do that, Bri?
- 24:19Richard: That's insanity.
- 24:20Richard: Uh Golden Jubilee, earbox, uh Hotwired, uh Paisley Delight.
- 24:25Brian: I mean uh dual dual pedals might be the perfect pedal for someone that just can't make up their mind.
- 24:31Brian: You know?
- 24:32Brian: Yeah.
- 24:33Brian: Yeah.
- 24:34Brian: I like it.
- 24:36Brian: I don't know.
- 24:36Brian: I mean there's advantages and disadvantages to dual pedals.
- 24:41Brian: One is I like controls.
- 24:43Brian: Um and Richard, as you know, if you try to put too many controls on a pedal, dual or not, it just uh gets confusing for folks, right?
- 24:52Blake: It is worth noting uh that I think we've kind of gl glossed over this a little bit.
- 24:58Blake: The inputs and outputs are separate.
- 25:02Blake: Yeah.
- 25:03Blake: I don't know if they can be ran in series, but it looks to me like this.
- 25:07Richard: You can probably connect the middle one and oh yeah, you could jump around that way, yeah.
- 25:12Richard: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:13Richard: But you should, I mean, so the way we do it with ours now is two pairs.
- 25:18Richard: You can go into the in on the right pair and the out on the left pair, or you can do split them completely.
- 25:24Blake: Hopefully it works like that.
- 25:25Blake: What's that switch on the side do?
- 25:28Blake: Trying to switch on the side?
- 25:29Blake: I don't see.
- 25:30Blake: There's a little tiny switch on the side.
- 25:31Blake: Oh, it's a high cut.
- 25:33Blake: Got it.
- 25:33Blake: I see I found an angle where I could see it.
- 25:36Blake: There's a little internal switch on the side, kind of like is on the uh on the uh color box where that that little there's another one, there's a couple, there's one on the uh we've been playing with some of those actually, yeah, with some other designs.
- 25:49Blake: It's a high cut.
- 25:49Blake: I wasn't sure if it was an order, but yeah.
- 25:52Richard: It's a great pedal.
- 25:53Richard: And I think like if you're starting out in boutique pedal land, something like this is a great place to start.
- 26:01Richard: Like, like the gearbox has been one of our best sellers because it is just such a great all-round pedal.
- 26:07Richard: Like both sides are great, both sides together are great, throwing you know all the other functionality.
- 26:12Richard: I think this is you know a similar sort of class for JHS.
- 26:15Richard: And if you are starting afresh, I would buy one of these rather than the separate pedals initially.
- 26:21Richard: That's how I'm wired, though.
- 26:22Blake: I like to kind of combine.
- 26:23Blake: I was looking at this wrong, guys.
- 26:25Blake: So there are indeed four jacks, but it's like this is how they have them listed.
- 26:29Blake: They got the main input, output.
- 26:31Blake: Use the far right input and the far left output when using the wander as a standard two-in-one pedal.
- 26:36Blake: So they are stacked together.
- 26:37Blake: Yeah.
- 26:38Blake: And then individual effects jacks.
- 26:39Blake: The individual input and output jacks allow you to separate the two effects for use with an effects loop switcher or other external router.
- 26:46Blake: That's the same way.
- 26:47Blake: Same as how we do it.
- 26:47Richard: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:48Richard: That's the best way of doing it.
- 26:49Richard: It gives you and and you can stick a pedal in the loop if you want.
- 26:53Richard: You know, if you want to stick something in between the two, you can.
- 26:56Richard: So it's kind of makes more sense than what I was thinking.
- 26:59Brian: Everything is like, maybe you just like to use a jumper cable.
- 27:02Brian: Maybe you have like a jumper cable, like a jumper coily cable that you just want the tone from.
- 27:07Brian: Oh, yeah.
- 27:08Richard: You know, because that that would improve it immensely.
- 27:10Richard: Longer the better.
- 27:12Richard: Totally.
- 27:12Richard: Yes.
- 27:13Richard: Coilier the better.
- 27:15Richard: Interesting.
- 27:16Brian: I like coil your coily cable even better.
- 27:19Richard: Is a square coil better than a circular coil, though?
- 27:22Richard: Like, do you get a more crunchy signal if it's a square coil?
- 27:26Richard: What if it's a Tesla coil?
- 27:28Richard: Hmm.
- 27:29Richard: Okay.
- 27:30Richard: What if it's a lacuna coil?
- 27:32unknown: Oh.
- 27:33Richard: I don't know.
- 27:34Richard: There's a kind of metal uh reference.
- 27:37Richard: Anyhow.
- 27:38Richard: I got I understood that reference.
- 27:40Richard: Great looking pedal, gonna sound great, gonna sell out quickly.
- 27:44Richard: Um, nice work, uh JHS.
- 27:47Richard: Whilst on the subject of other pedal manufacturers that don't suck, I was watching Keeley do a little live video earlier.
- 27:54Richard: Some playing, some pedals.
- 27:56Richard: I like sometimes that's just the right thing to tune into.
- 27:59Richard: So I enjoyed that, Robert.
- 28:01Richard: Thank you.
- 28:03Richard: What was he playing?
- 28:04Richard: That's I don't know.
- 28:05Richard: Oh, okay.
- 28:06Richard: It's music.
- 28:07Richard: Oh, dude, dude, this is really exciting, right?
- 28:10Richard: I found a new band of new musicians making non-cover music that doesn't suck that I love.
- 28:19Richard: Uh, and I found it via the Jules Holland TV program the other day, but that doesn't matter.
- 28:23Richard: They're called Mary in the Junkyard.
- 28:27Richard: And I think Blake, you will love them.
- 28:30Richard: I'm pretty sure Brian will hate them, but I might be wrong.
- 28:36Richard: It's kind of breathy female vocals, but really nice guitar arpeggios through insane pedal boards.
- 28:45Richard: Like I've seen their pedal boards and they're running like 20 pedals each.
- 28:49Richard: There's two guitar players, and the way she plays, she plays like, oh, I forget the guitar, it's not a 335, might be an old Gretsch that she got.
- 28:58Richard: But she basically learned to play like uh her dad taught her finger picking style, so she's playing kind of like really interesting arpeggiated riffs, all completely finger picking, which for a younger musician I would say is rare these days, like they're nearly always doing the chugs, less of the genteel stuff, and the combination is magical.
- 29:20Richard: Like, it's the first time I've heard an album for about three years of new music where I've gone, I like this band.
- 29:28Richard: And you know what's a nice feeling?
- 29:30Richard: Like going to iTunes or Spotify and adding their only album to your collection and thinking, I'm here at the start of this journey.
- 29:39Richard: I don't have to download four albums before I understand this band.
- 29:42Richard: So yeah, Mary in the junkyard.
- 29:45Richard: Highly recommended.
- 29:46Richard: Currently touring the US, I think, with um in the junkyard or and the junkyard.
- 29:51Richard: Mary in the junkyard.
- 29:52Richard: Inside of the junkyard.
- 29:54Richard: Mary in the junkyard.
- 29:56Richard: If you say Mary inside the junkyard, people will Google a different thing.
- 30:00Richard: In in, yes.
- 30:03Blake: So yeah, there's a music recommendation for you.
- 30:05Blake: So how about that?
- 30:06Blake: You sent that over, and I was like, oh, cool, I'll listen to this, and and I didn't.
- 30:11Blake: So now I will.
- 30:12Blake: Tiny thing.
- 30:13Blake: Exactly.
- 30:13Blake: New toy.
- 30:14Blake: Yeah, it's like lightsaber.
- 30:15Blake: Oh, cheeseburger.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'd like a cheeseburger right now.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, who wouldn't?
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: Would really love a cheeseburger right now.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: So yeah, me too, but good.
- 30:27Blake: What else we got going on, chaps?
- 30:29Blake: Well, uh you may have noticed, uh, listeners, that um the best part of the show wasn't on last week.
- 30:36Blake: Uh or the worst.
- 30:39Blake: Depends on your viewpoint.
- 30:40Richard: I mean, yeah.
- 30:40Richard: Were you gone last week?
- 30:42Richard: No, it was just me and you, Brian.
- 30:43Richard: Um, and it was hilarious because we got 35 minutes in and went, oh, we should probably explain why you haven't heard from Blake.
- 30:50Brian: By the way, yeah, Blake's not here.
- 30:52Brian: That's why you haven't heard him yet.
- 30:53Brian: Yeah.
- 30:53Brian: I was just I was just being quiet.
- 30:55Brian: I was being respectful.
- 30:56Blake: Yeah.
- 30:57Blake: Giving you guys your space.
- 30:59Blake: That's all.
- 31:00Blake: Uh I went up to Seattle for a little uh little trip.
- 31:05Blake: Um and how's Attle doing?
- 31:07Blake: Is he okay?
- 31:08Blake: Attle's doing all right, you know.
- 31:10Blake: Yeah, he's a bit addled.
- 31:12Blake: Okay, you know, I could see it.
- 31:14Blake: Yeah.
- 31:15Blake: Um, it was great.
- 31:16Blake: We had a good time.
- 31:17Blake: It was uh exhausting.
- 31:19Blake: Basically, we were there visiting all the retailers, all the independent retailers in the region, some of which we are in, some of which we are not.
- 31:27Blake: Um, and I decided this will be a good learning experience for my son to see some of what his dad does.
- 31:35Blake: So you were like, Vincent, take the wheel.
- 31:38Richard: I'm drinking a beer.
- 31:39Blake: That's right.
- 31:40Blake: So I was like, listen, kid, this is what it's like on the road.
- 31:46Blake: Get in front.
- 31:46Blake: No, just climb up while we're driving.
- 31:48Blake: We'll switch seats.
- 31:49Blake: We don't want to lose time.
- 31:50Blake: We don't want to switch seats on the fly.
- 31:52Blake: Let's go.
- 31:54Blake: We laugh, but it probably is true.
- 31:55Blake: No, it's not true.
- 31:58Blake: So uh we had a good time, you know.
- 32:00Blake: He was very patient, um, but he actually really enjoyed uh several of the stores, particularly Emerald City guitars.
- 32:09Blake: Are you guys familiar with Emerald City guitars?
- 32:11Blake: Yes, yeah.
- 32:11Richard: I mean, I've never been there, but I'm familiar with the the dealership, yes.
- 32:16Blake: Yes, so yeah, one of the uh I I guess I would say probably one of the go-to places in the US for high-end vintage guitars, like Trevor and company like source bursts on a regular basis.
- 32:30Blake: You know, they they travel all over the globe getting these things and getting the stories.
- 32:35Blake: Trevor's really into the stories behind these instruments, which is really cool.
- 32:39Blake: And uh Vincent had a great time at several of the the stores because I would introduce him as Vincent of the Benson Vincent fame, and then they were like, oh no way! I we didn't know bless.
- 32:54Blake: Yeah, he quite liked that a lot.
- 32:55Blake: Uh, he took a couple pictures with people, and um in Emerald City, we were looking at all kinds of stuff.
- 33:02Blake: I mean, I don't even know where to begin.
- 33:04Blake: I I got to play an SG that was owned by Leslie West of Mountain, um, and immediately forgot how to play guitar while holding it, because that's how that works.
- 33:15Blake: Um, but that was crazy.
- 33:17Blake: Uh Vincent Trevor pulls out of this case this, I believe, 1960 original Shoreline Gold strat and just hands it to him.
- 33:26Blake: And I'm like, son, son, please don't don't drop the$190,000 Stratocaster.
- 33:34Blake: Please hold on to it so tightly.
- 33:37Richard: Yeah, oh over his shoulder there was like a little devil that looked a little bit like me going, drop it, break it.
- 33:44Richard: Your dad's gotta pay for it.
- 33:45Richard: His insurance won't cover it.
- 33:47Blake: Do it now.
- 33:48Blake: That's that's what it felt like.
- 33:50Blake: No, he was good, he was responsible, and that was his favorite guitar of the trip was the Shoreline Gold Stratocaster.
- 33:57Blake: Um, but Trevor took us up into the secret room.
- 34:01Blake: Oh, I now I I I'm already jealous.
- 34:03Blake: We haven't even started, and I'm already jealous.
- 34:05Blake: Dude, I I never thought this would happen.
- 34:09Blake: So this has happened once in the Gibson vault, and I thought that was the end for me.
- 34:14Blake: That'll never happen again.
- 34:15Blake: Trevor busts out a 58 Karina V and is like, check this out.
- 34:23Blake: And it's already sold, so I couldn't buy it.
- 34:26Blake: You know, that's the only reason I didn't buy it, right?
- 34:28Blake: Oh, yeah, sure.
- 34:28Blake: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:29Blake: Um, and I couldn't believe I was holding another one.
- 34:32Blake: That was crazy.
- 34:34Blake: There was a, I believe the year, don't I don't shoot me if I got this wrong.
- 34:38Blake: I think there's a video on this guitar, but there's there's a 58 strat that was one of the original anodized gold pit guard versions that a lot of people were claiming was not the real deal.
- 34:54Blake: So they had it scientifically tested by um, I believe it's the company's called like vintage.
- 35:02Blake: Oh, I'm trying to remember.
- 35:03Blake: There is a company that specializes in like scanning and analyzing vintage guitars mostly, but other things too, to determine their authenticity.
- 35:11Blake: So they had them do it and verified it.
- 35:14Blake: And it's it's crazy.
- 35:16Blake: It's like probably one of one.
- 35:18Blake: Wow.
- 35:19Blake: And it was so clean, it hadn't hardly been played.
- 35:21Blake: It was one of those things where somebody bought it, wasn't really a guitar player.
- 35:25Blake: They bought it probably because they thought it was cool, and they stuck it in the corner forever, and then somebody else bought it from them in the 70s.
- 35:32Blake: They didn't really think much of it, they didn't really think that it was anything all that special.
- 35:36Blake: It's just a Stratocaster to them.
- 35:38Blake: They stick it in the corner as well, until 50 plus years later, when it comes to life, and people start paying attention to this thing.
- 35:47Blake: It's probably one of the rarest guitars in the world.
- 35:50Blake: It was crazy.
- 35:51Blake: Yeah.
- 35:52Blake: And then and then on and then there was a burst there too.
- 35:55Brian: Which is why you want to change the pickups on that thing, right?
- 35:59Blake: Get some lovely modern wiring.
- 36:01Blake: That's right.
- 36:01Blake: Get put some EMGs in it.
- 36:02Blake: Yeah, they were planning on putting some EMGs in it.
- 36:04Blake: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:05Blake: And we're gonna paint it black.
- 36:06Blake: And a bee better.
- 36:08Blake: Yeah.
- 36:08Blake: Yeah.
- 36:09Blake: I think that was the plan, yeah, before they ship it off.
- 36:12Blake: But it was wild.
- 36:13Blake: It was, I can't even remember everything I seen.
- 36:15Blake: I seen in that store.
- 36:17Blake: Um, oh, did you guys know?
- 36:19Blake: I didn't know this because I'm not familiar with the history of BC Rich.
- 36:23Blake: BC Rich got their start making high-end acoustic guitars.
- 36:29Blake: I think they made mandolins as well at one point.
- 36:31Blake: I that sounds right once I did a little googling, but they had a basically a really fancy D18-ish clone there.
- 36:40Blake: It was amazing.
- 36:41Blake: Really?
- 36:42Blake: I was like, this is a BC Rich.
- 36:43Blake: And Trevor told me the story.
- 36:45Blake: Like, this is how they started, was making Spanish guitars and high-end Martin-ish clones and all this stuff before they got into pointy guitar land in the 80s, which was fascinating.
- 36:57Richard: Yeah.
- 36:57Richard: Uh Michael Hampton, uh, the guitarist from Funkadelic, plays uh a BC Rich.
- 37:03Richard: Is it uh is it the Warbird?
- 37:06Richard: Uh that sounds right.
- 37:08Richard: Let me just double check that on.
- 37:11Richard: No, it's another one.
- 37:13Richard: But the BC Rich Warbird is one.
- 37:15Richard: Um, uh, and I I was checking it out the other day.
- 37:17Richard: I was like, actually, you know what?
- 37:19Richard: Maybe we all automatically kind of look at BC Rich as a little bit of a not I wouldn't say a joke brand, but you know, it's not particularly yeah, a novelty brand.
- 37:31Brian: To me, it seems very 80s.
- 37:32Brian: Like I think like Lita Ford or CC Deville, like I think of that kind of stuff whenever I think of BC Rich.
- 37:39Blake: Yeah, you don't think of a D18.
- 37:42Blake: Yeah.
- 37:43Blake: But that's how they got started.
- 37:44Richard: Um apparently it's a 10-string uh BC Rich that he's playing.
- 37:50Richard: So I I'm already not interested because nobody should be playing a 10-string guitar.
- 37:55Brian: You only got five smart enough.
- 37:56Brian: He only have five fingers.
- 37:58Brian: So the six string makes it even harder.
- 38:00Richard: It's the BC Rich perfect ten, so it has tuners at the bottom and at the top.
- 38:05Richard: What?
- 38:06Richard: Yeah.
- 38:07Richard: Look up BC Rich because it's got 10 strings on it.
- 38:10Richard: What are you gonna do?
- 38:11Richard: Have a headstock that weighs four tons.
- 38:13Richard: Yes.
- 38:14Richard: No, you're gonna you're gonna well, you probably would.
- 38:17Brian: Yeah, it's an amazing perfect case for the Gibson automatic tuners.
- 38:23Brian: The Gibson AI tuners.
- 38:25Richard: Oh, don't don't mention AI.
- 38:29Richard: I mentioned it once, I thought I got away with it, but uh yes, you crazy kids.
- 38:35Blake: But yeah, it was it was a great trip.
- 38:36Blake: Thunder Road was amazing as well.
- 38:38Blake: Um, probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing stores I've ever been in.
- 38:43Richard: I don't know whether it's the algorithm or that you have become obsessed, but all I see on my feed is you at Thunder Road guitars at the moment.
- 38:52Richard: Is oh you at Thunder Road guitars and and you in your panties.
- 38:56Richard: Uh sorry, that's a different whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, easy then.
- 39:01Richard: But you do seem to have done some great content for the Thunder Road uh shop, and I love it.
- 39:07Brian: And you know what?
- 39:08Brian: That's a great Garth Brooks song, too.
- 39:09Brian: It is Thunder Road Thunder Road, yeah.
- 39:12Blake: Yeah, that's that's what it sounds like when a toddler's singing it.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: The Thunder Road and the lightning strikes.
- 39:21Richard: I know that song.
- 39:22Richard: There's a song I know that you guys know.
- 39:24Richard: Wow.
- 39:24Richard: There you go.
- 39:25Richard: Wow.
- 39:26Blake: Yeah, it's uh I have been doing a fair bit of stuff with I've gotten uh tighter with Will.
- 39:30Blake: I mean, I've known him for years, but been doing more stuff with him uh at the Portland location, but I had not visited the new Seattle location yet.
- 39:38Richard: And remind me where you got that brilliant deal on the uh on the Mustang from.
- 39:43Richard: From Thunder Road Seattle.
- 39:44Richard: Oh, I see how that works, man.
- 39:47Richard: All right, I'm gonna be uh I'm gonna be going to my local guitar shop.
- 39:50Richard: They've just taken a shipment.
- 39:51Richard: I reckon I reckon I can talk them into giving me that squire baritone.
- 39:56Richard: I think that's on on them for sure.
- 39:59Blake: Yeah, I think they can handle that for you.
- 40:01Blake: Well, yeah, that was where I was, everybody.
- 40:03Blake: It was uh it was a great time.
- 40:05Blake: I talked to a lot of cool local dealers that weren't yeah, Mike and Mike's guitar bar.
- 40:09Blake: I mean, that was incredible too.
- 40:11Blake: Uh he's gonna come on the pod uh the tone mob podcast here pretty soon.
- 40:15Blake: But I definitely would say follow all of those stores on the internet.
- 40:20Blake: Not only are they incredible stores, but they also put out a lot of content that is like if you're a guitar nerd, and I don't know why you would be listening to this podcast if you weren't.
- 40:29Richard: Uh maybe you're a UFO nerd or like really lame British Innuendo-based hot comedy.
- 40:35Blake: That is also possible.
- 40:36Blake: Quote unquotes.
- 40:37Blake: Possible.
- 40:38Blake: If you love guitar content, you should go follow all those stores.
- 40:42Blake: They do a really good job.
- 40:43Richard: Here's the thing: I'm constantly amazed at how many independent guitar stores there are in the states.
- 40:49Richard: And then I remember basically every single one of your states is like my entire country doubled.
- 40:56Richard: So no wonder they've got so many great shops, but it's awesome.
- 40:59Blake: There's about rough it's hard to say because they come and go, but there's roughly around 2,000 indie stores in the states.
- 41:06Blake: Wow.
- 41:07Blake: Yeah.
- 41:08Blake: I doubt there's uh I doubt there's 200 stores in the UK.
- 41:11Richard: In fact, what's crazy though?
- 41:13Richard: Be surprised if there were 20 independent stores in the UK.
- 41:15Blake: They're they're smaller and they're a lot different, but there's almost that many stores in Japan.
- 41:20Blake: Yeah, but Japan's next level.
- 41:22Richard: Yeah.
- 41:23Richard: Japan's, yeah, that is next level.
- 41:25Richard: My friend who lives in Australia, um, he and his whole sort of family have just gone to Japan for a holiday, and he posted a picture of him doing the go-kort cart tour around Tokyo.
- 41:36Richard: Oh, yeah.
- 41:36Richard: And I'm like, if ever I was jealous, it was now.
- 41:40Richard: Uh right now.
- 41:41Richard: And also, he he quite enjoys the odd beer.
- 41:45Richard: I know that they're all drunk.
- 41:47Richard: I know that they're doing that.
- 41:49Richard: Having had a skin full of Japanese lager, that would be a really amazing.
- 41:54Richard: Uh, don't drink and drive, kids.
- 41:56Richard: It's not clever.
- 41:58Richard: Just saying.
- 41:59Richard: Unless it's a go-kart that can only go five miles an hour and is being controlled by somebody else, but don't drink and drive.
- 42:06Blake: Got that one out.
- 42:07Blake: That's that's just riding, which is great.
- 42:09Blake: You can you can ride hammered if you want, just don't be in control.
- 42:13Richard: We actually took the opportunity of you not being here to discuss Brian's latest project, which was uh Pedal Spice, his his new uh software project, which is really, really interesting.
- 42:24Richard: But he's he's and he he won't say this because he's modest, but he's taking it to the next level now.
- 42:29Richard: Because am I right in thinking, Bri, I could upload a schematic I had drawn and it would turn it into a real schematic.
- 42:38Brian: So I'm finalizing it, you know, working out the bugs.
- 42:43Brian: It's 95% ready.
- 42:45Brian: But yes, you'll be able to even write out a schematic, like hand draw it and upload it, and it works as a spice file.
- 42:54Brian: And from there, you can you'll be able to export it into LC Spice if you want, or you know key CAD and make a PCB.
- 43:01Brian: I'm well and I've never seen any other software do this before.
- 43:05Blake: No, I'm always putting stuff into Key CAD.
- 43:08Blake: Yeah.
- 43:08Blake: Always I can't.
- 43:10Brian: It's all about the CAD, and you need the key for it.
- 43:12Blake: You got the key, and I man, I when I put spice in it, you know, the spice must flow.
- 43:21Brian: So here's the thing.
- 43:22Brian: So what you what you can do is let's say you take an entire folder of schematics, and they're all hand-drawn that maybe they're from 30 years ago, and you're like, I wish I had a modern version of this.
- 43:34Brian: It allows you to do that.
- 43:36Richard: Which I'm literally going to do the minute it's ready because I have an older schematic, a hand drawn schematic for a classic pedal, and I did put it through AOI and say, give me a modern schematic and a breadboard diagram for this, but it wasn't accurate, so I can't wait to see.
- 43:51Richard: It's not accurate that way.
- 43:52Richard: No.
- 43:52Brian: You have to do you have to use spice to do it.
- 43:54Brian: I also you have to do some other things like looking at lines and some other Clever tricks, but yeah.
- 44:01Richard: I can't wait to be able to use it to send you rude messages because I'm going to lay out all of my components to say words like sweaty bollocks and then send it to you and be like, check out my new schematic bride.
- 44:18Richard: You know what?
- 44:18Brian: Actually, I can I could put a capacitor there.
- 44:21Brian: I could embed hidden text messages in these files.
- 44:24Brian: Just for fun.
- 44:25Brian: Yeah, you should.
- 44:26Brian: 100% should.
- 44:27Brian: Just for certain users like Richard Oliver.
- 44:30Brian: Like everything you send has hidden hidden text underneath it.
- 44:33Brian: Yeah.
- 44:34Brian: Like, hey, hey, what's the tax service over there for you guys?
- 44:39Brian: It's IRS here.
- 44:40Brian: Whatever it is for you guys, I don't like to pay my taxes.
- 44:43Richard: You know?
- 44:44Richard: Inland revenue.
- 44:46Richard: Yeah, same sort of thing.
- 44:47Richard: Uh but what you should do is make it so that when certain people log in, all the buttons move away from their mouse pointers.
- 44:56Richard: So that used to be that used to be an old like virus trick where you'd load software on someone's computer, and every time they went to like shut the computer down, the the start button would move across the screen.
- 45:08Brian: Oh, that's fantastic.
- 45:10Richard: That's what you need to do, Bri.
- 45:11Richard: Yeah.
- 45:12Blake: Why did you put that under the world again, Richard?
- 45:14Blake: Now that now, like Anonymous is gonna put that on all of our computers.
- 45:19Richard: Um, yeah, I mean, I remember the first computer virus.
- 45:23Richard: Happy, happy days.
- 45:24Richard: I didn't write it, but I remember trying to spread it.
- 45:26Brian: Um you remember the first computer virus?
- 45:29Blake: You remember trying to spread it?
- 45:30Blake: What is wrong with it?
- 45:31Brian: Yeah, what are you talking about?
- 45:33Brian: I think this is something illegal, actually.
- 45:34Brian: Let's dig into this.
- 45:36Richard: I mean, the the first computer virus on the Commodore Amiga, I believe, was called the SCA virus, and I I think it is probably not far off one of the first ever viruses, ever.
- 45:48Richard: Really?
- 45:48Richard: So it's your fault.
- 45:49Richard: There we go.
- 45:49Richard: Oh, I'm I'm so here, right?
- 45:53Richard: The SCA virus is the first computer virus created for the Amiga and one of the first to create public notoriety.
- 46:02Richard: I got really excited there, and then I read for the Amiga.
- 46:05Richard: I was like, damn, I thought it was the first virus for anything.
- 46:07Richard: But yeah, the Swiss cracking association virus.
- 46:11Richard: Interesting.
- 46:12Richard: Yeah, it would hardly be.
- 46:22Blake: Is that Scotland Yard at your door?
- 46:24Richard: I I doubt it very much.
- 46:25Richard: We don't we don't have any police officers left in this country.
- 46:28Richard: They they've all resigned because we don't pay them any money.
- 46:32Richard: Let's not get political again.
- 46:34Richard: Um we missed you last week, though.
- 46:37Blake: Uh I missed you guys.
- 46:39Blake: I felt like I was missing a key part of my week.
- 46:43Blake: A key category.
- 46:44Brian: I can understand missing us.
- 46:45Brian: I I get it.
- 46:46Brian: I I get it.
- 46:47Brian: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 46:48Richard: The other thing, because again, Brian won't mention this, but Brian has released a like video of him breaking down how a tube screamer works in 60 seconds.
- 46:57Brian: And Brian I'm gonna start doing this every day.
- 47:00Richard: Every day?
- 47:01Richard: Oh well every day.
- 47:02Richard: Scrub that bit from the record, Brian, because you'll get bored after seven days, and then it'll be every week, and then it'll be every month.
- 47:08Richard: And no.
- 47:09Brian: No, no, that's the that's the plan.
- 47:11Brian: 60 seconds, 60 second circuit discussion.
- 47:15Richard: I love it though, because it what I love about it, it takes all the fluff away.
- 47:19Richard: So it's like we're not gonna bother looking at the input and output buffers, we're not gonna bother looking at the tone or volume controls, we're just gonna look at what gives you the gurr sound.
- 47:29Richard: And you go through depending on what you're talking about, yeah.
- 47:31Brian: Yeah, well today's is about the tone control.
- 47:33Richard: Yeah, it's a tube screamer, so it's a non-inverting op amp.
- 47:37Brian: Uh and the two screamer, yes, both of them.
- 47:39Richard: Yeah, so and yeah, really nice.
- 47:41Blake: So you're gonna go through all the circuits at some point.
- 47:43Blake: You're gonna be like, all right, now we're breaking down the nest home thermostat.
- 47:47Blake: It connects to Wi-Fi.
- 47:50Richard: Don't even mock it.
- 47:52Richard: I need I have problems.
- 47:53Richard: Uh but no, this is my refrigerator.
- 47:56Richard: Yeah, it's on Brian's social media stuff.
- 47:59Richard: You'll find it on his home page, it's his personal like public site.
- 48:04Brian: It's on the Wampler YouTube, it's on the um the DIY guitar pedal, TikTok.
- 48:10Brian: That's a brand new one for you.
- 48:11Brian: Ooh.
- 48:12Brian: And it's on the business Brian Wampler Facebook page.
- 48:17Brian: Mm-hmm.
- 48:18Brian: So Wampler Pedals shared it.
- 48:20Brian: Yeah.
- 48:21Richard: Uh no, Wampler Pedals liked it.
- 48:23Richard: We haven't shared it yet because we don't like it.
- 48:25Brian: Thanks for nothing, Richard.
- 48:28Richard: To be fair, I I I did all my social media posting yesterday.
- 48:31Richard: I should do some more today or tomorrow.
- 48:35Richard: Honestly, I'm not just blowing smoke up.
- 48:37Richard: The boss is a backside.
- 48:40Richard: I found it, and I think you'd like it here as well, Blake.
- 48:43Richard: I found it really interesting because I only have like a 60-second attention span for people talking on the internet.
- 48:50Richard: Like, if you don't draw me in in the first minute, I'm done.
- 48:53Richard: And this is all done in a minute.
- 48:55Brian: It's like, yep, everything you need to know.
- 48:57Brian: And the whole goal, like everything, is to explain it to a musician, not to an engineer.
- 49:02Brian: So I'm like, I'm there's never gonna be a point where I say, All right, let's look at the math behind this and why it works this way.
- 49:08Brian: It's never that.
- 49:09Brian: It's this capacitor gives you more base, this one gives you more gain.
- 49:13Brian: Like what it does on the screen.
- 49:15Richard: Yeah, I really enjoyed when you kind of showed what happens.
- 49:19Richard: So it was changing a resistor and changing a capacitor and and how they affect the relate to each other, the base roll-off and the volume.
- 49:27Richard: And like just seeing it, and and like I said, I immediately like sent you a message like this is brilliant, Bri, because you know, we were talking about some ideas yesterday, and and this didn't come out of what we discussed, but I kind of feel like we were on the edge of something, and you just had that brainwave, and I was like, this is really, really good, because I've never seen that explained with like an active kind of diagram almost.
- 49:53Richard: So literally, you can see Bri change the values, and then you see how it affects the roll-off of the bass and the volume and the gain, and it's like, oh my god, that makes so much sense now.
- 50:04Richard: So I think this is a real service for for anyone interested in pedals, as well as obviously anyone interested in making pedals.
- 50:10Richard: So good work, Bri.
- 50:11Richard: Well, thanks, man.
- 50:13Richard: I'm glad you like it.
- 50:13Richard: Oh, look, a little round of applause from Blake there with his nice Russian watch on there.
- 50:20Richard: It is a Russian watch, isn't it?
- 50:22Richard: Not the not this one, no.
- 50:24Richard: Why?
- 50:24Brian: Is it run fast or something?
- 50:28Richard: Uh what else we got?
- 50:30Richard: That's a terrible joke, right?
- 50:32Richard: It's such a terrible joke.
- 50:34Richard: No, I liked it.
- 50:35Brian: See, my my son was my son was actually born in Russia, so I like to ask him if he uh I like to ask let me try this with English again.
- 50:43Brian: I like to ask him where he's rushing off to.
- 50:46Brian: And he thinks that's a dumb joke as well.
- 50:48Blake: Yeah.
- 50:49Blake: And he is right.
- 50:50Blake: We were trying to decide, like, we're going on the trip at the end of the month, and then we're like, okay, we gotta save up the K the coin.
- 50:58Blake: When when's our next where's our next destination?
- 51:00Blake: We want to we, you know, we like to go places.
- 51:02Blake: We went on to go back to Europe for a while, like, where do we want to go?
- 51:05Blake: And so we were letting the kids involved in this conversation, and Rocky's immediate suggestion was Russia, let's go to Russia.
- 51:15Blake: Yeah, might want to give that a few years.
- 51:17Brian: Maybe not right now.
- 51:18Blake: Yeah, not let's not do it right now.
- 51:19Blake: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:20Blake: Should we go to Russia, Iran, and Afghanistan?
- 51:25Blake: Then Vincent thought it was really funny.
- 51:27Blake: He whispered in his ear, and then Rocky came running out.
- 51:29Blake: He's like, I want to go to Iran! Like, yeah, uh, probably not gonna do that right now.
- 51:35Richard: Yeah, uh, I hope the world heals soon, but that's another topic.
- 51:38Richard: Oh man, it's another topic.
- 51:39Richard: We need it, but that's yeah, yeah, that's another topic.
- 51:42Richard: More music, less fighting.
- 51:45Richard: Absolutely, yeah.
- 51:47Brian: There we go.
- 51:48Brian: So said no one in any gear group on Facebook ever.
- 51:53Richard: Is this a safe place to discuss how much we hate Brian Wompler?
- 51:59Brian: Yes, let's discuss that.
- 52:01Brian: It's perfect.
- 52:03Richard: Uh, a couple of other quickies.
- 52:05Richard: Um Ernie Border just put out uh a new Albert Lee model, uh Music Man Albert Lee model, and they're really nice colours.
- 52:14Richard: I gotta say, this is a guitar that when I first saw a photo of, I was like, I'm never gonna like this guitar.
- 52:21Richard: When you see Albert Lee playing it, and I've seen a couple of other people play it.
- 52:24Richard: I this is a guitar I think I need in my Arsenal.
- 52:27Richard: Have you played one?
- 52:28Richard: I have not yet played one.
- 52:30Blake: They're really cool.
- 52:31Blake: They're very comfortable.
- 52:32Blake: They're a little funkier than some people.
- 52:34Blake: Like that if they they're a really cool guitar.
- 52:36Blake: I like them.
- 52:37Blake: I've never played it.
- 52:38Richard: Okay.
- 52:39Richard: This is interesting.
- 52:40Richard: Breaking news former gang boss Dwayne Kefy D.
- 52:45Richard: Davis has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for orchestrating the murder of Tupac Shakur.
- 52:51Blake: Isn't that Kify D?
- 52:52Richard: Really?
- 52:53Richard: Oh, maybe.
- 52:54Richard: All right.
- 52:54Richard: I just, yeah, but yeah.
- 52:56Richard: Uh 40 years it's taken to resolve this case.
- 52:59Blake: Well, that's you know insane.
- 53:01Blake: And it's I don't know, it's it's not funny because it's murder, but it's hilarious to me how he finally got how this finally happened.
- 53:08Blake: It's because he wouldn't shut up about it.
- 53:11Blake: Yeah.
- 53:12Blake: He was going on podcast, and yeah, he was going on podcast and be like, this is how we did it.
- 53:15Blake: Burber du.
- 53:17Blake: Like really?
- 53:18Blake: Yeah.
- 53:19Blake: Because he like mistake from my understanding of it, is he the police really wanted to solve the case, and so there are certain clauses in certain places where you can basically be immune from can you know, if like you can confess to something, just in the interest of like solving the case, but it's only for a set amount of time under a set of circumstances.
- 53:41Blake: So like he did this interview with some authority figure, I believe it was police officers, and he's like, Yeah, yeah, this is how we did it.
- 53:49Blake: And then he like falsely assumed that gave him immunity forever and just started talking about it and put it in books and all this stuff.
- 53:56Richard: Yeah, it's almost like the police officer came up to him and went, Man, whoever killed Tupac was an amazing criminal.
- 54:04Richard: If only we knew such an amazing criminal.
- 54:08Blake: It's me, the smartest man that's ever existed.
- 54:11Richard: I'm the smart.
- 54:12Richard: So yeah, but yeah, that's you know, that is one of the biggest kind of crimes in the music.
- 54:19Richard: Music history, yeah.
- 54:20Richard: I think so, right?
- 54:21Richard: So interesting.
- 54:23Richard: Um, no, I need to uh going back to the music man.
- 54:26Richard: I definitely need to try one.
- 54:27Richard: Um, what else do we?
- 54:30Richard: Oh, the final one for this week.
- 54:31Richard: Beringer have just released a miniature version of their clon centaur.
- 54:37Richard: Looks a little bit tumness-y, just gonna say.
- 54:40Brian: I mean, if you're making a tumna uh a uh clon clone, you're gonna make a gold or silver generally.
- 54:46Brian: Yeah, so you got that.
- 54:48Brian: And I mean at this point, how many clon clones are there?
- 54:52Brian: There's so many.
- 54:53Brian: Yeah, so many points.
- 54:55Brian: Yeah, so probably what are you gonna do different?
- 54:57Brian: We're gonna make it cheaper, okay.
- 54:59Richard: What they've done differently is they've put little sticky out bits on uh on the enclosure.
- 55:05Richard: Like the enclosure is like a mini version of the clon enclosure, so it has like little sticky out bits top and bottom.
- 55:11Richard: I'm not sure I like that.
- 55:13Brian: So you got a new enclosure, cool man.
- 55:15Richard: Yeah, great.
- 55:16Blake: Well done.
- 55:17Blake: Yeah, that's uh that's how I feel about it.
- 55:19Blake: I didn't see this this 50s wiring um oh yeah thing.
- 55:24Blake: I do want to talk about it briefly, just because of your love of guitar.
- 55:29Blake: So Sean Sean will appreciate this very much.
- 55:31Blake: He's educated me on this.
- 55:33Blake: So this article is basically postulating that 50s wiring is like a great mod you can do to your guitar.
- 55:39Blake: And for some people it is, but I just want to say from the Gun Street customer service in box side, and Sean, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I've heard you talk about this several times, so I don't think I am.
- 55:52Blake: A lot of people think they want 50s wiring in their guitars because it sounds like a good idea.
- 55:58Blake: Like, well, yeah, that's how they did it back in the day.
- 56:00Blake: We want 50s style wiring.
- 56:02Blake: What it turns out is most people do not want 50s wiring in their guitars, they just think they do.
- 56:08Blake: So I'm not saying that you shouldn't do it.
- 56:11Blake: I'm not saying that this is a bad article.
- 56:13Brian: Well, so most people don't actually like it.
- 56:17Brian: Why is that though?
- 56:18Brian: Are you talking about tonality or are you talking about something else?
- 56:21Blake: F a little bit of tone, it's uh it's a lot of functionality.
- 56:24Blake: Like it does some weird stuff when you start rolling back the volume and the tone knobs and messing with things that like you don't that there's a reason they changed it, right?
- 56:32Blake: It it isn't very linear, it's kind of like it's it's a weird setup.
- 56:37Blake: It's it sounds good on paper, but it's not really for most people.
- 56:42Blake: And it could be a factor of like that's just what people got used to, so now 50s feels weird to them.
- 56:48Blake: There could be a lot of reasons why.
- 56:50Blake: Some people love it, and that's that's not to say that it's bad.
- 56:53Blake: We obviously like offer kits for that, but just speaking from experience, just because it's older doesn't mean that it's better.
- 57:01Brian: I mean, I would say the same thing applies to guitar pedals as well.
- 57:03Brian: I mean, there's some old stuff that we did that I ended up, you know, would completely change or have changed.
- 57:10Brian: And um, when asked about it, I'm like, yeah, that there was problems doing it that way.
- 57:16Brian: We changed that for a reason, you know.
- 57:18Brian: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:18Brian: Euphoria being one of them.
- 57:20Brian: I started out completely not completely different, but quite a bit different.
- 57:24Brian: And um yeah, it's it's much more improved now.
- 57:29Brian: There we go.
- 57:30Blake: So that's all that to say is like just if you're questioning about it, shoot Sean an email.
- 57:35Blake: He'll get he'll get you on the straight and narrow path of whatever is gonna most likely be best for you.
- 57:40Richard: I'll tell you what does improve with age immensely, though.
- 57:45Richard: Um and that's our executive producers.
- 57:49Richard: Oh they just keep getting better and better every day, don't they?
- 57:53Richard: Like a fine wine.
- 57:54Richard: Perhaps, Blake, you would like to read from this wine list of wonderful people.

- 58:27Richard: Keep screaming at the radio.
