Latest / Wpfavs - Your favourite WordPress news / Native AI Agents Are Taking Over WordPress Admin
Transcript
- 0:13So I was looking at LolaCore yesterday, and it, it, it completely blew my mind
- 0:17because instead of hooking up some external Model Context Protocol server over a
- 0:21terminal, it literally lets you build plugins inside WP Admin.
- 0:26It is built on the WP 7.0 AI Client and the Abilities API, which means it sits right
- 0:32inside your dashboard, inspecting databases and running admin tasks directly.
- 0:36Wait, build plugins inside WP Admin?
- 0:39Without having to spin up a terminal or connect Claude Code through an external
- 0:43bridge?
- 0:44Exactly.
- 0:45No external middleware needed.
- 0:47The agent uses the native AI Client in WordPress 7.0 to read your site context,
- 0:52generate code, and execute it, but only after you give explicit approval right there
- 0:56in the interface.
- 0:57That shift from external terminal agents to native dashboard prompts is huge for AI
- 1:02visibility and ease of use.
- 1:05When you look at tools like Altus AI, they are doing something similar for niche
- 1:09plugins like WP Travel Engine.
- 1:11They route over 350 AI models through OpenRouter directly into the booking
- 1:16dashboard.
- 1:17350 models through OpenRouter?
- 1:20So a tour manager can literally just type, um, lower the price on the weekend safari
- 1:25and issue a ten percent coupon, without touching three different settings menus?
- 1:29Yes, exactly that.
- 1:30You bypass all those deeply nested admin screens.
- 1:33You just talk to the site in natural language, and the underlying model translates
- 1:38that intent into precise database changes.
- 1:41I have to say, as a builder who hates friction and clutter,
- 1:44having a native prompt bar inside the dashboard feels so much cleaner than managing
- 1:49API keys and external CLI connections.
- 1:52But, um, I do wonder if built in core APIs are going to make external MCP tools
- 1:58completely obsolete for the everyday site owner.
- 2:01Well, I think for casual users, absolutely.
- 2:04Why mess with terminal commands when WordPress core gives you a native connection?
- 2:08But for developers doing massive multi site refactoring, external CLI tools might
- 2:14still hold a place.
- 2:15The key question is control and security when these agents start making live site
- 2:19decisions.
- 2:20And that brings us right to how these agents operate safely when given real
- 2:24authority over a production site.
- 2:26That issue of safety is precisely what Agentric AI is tackling.
- 2:30They run autonomous WordPress agents, but they build strict human in the loop
- 2:34guardrails directly into the execution path.
- 2:37So an agent cannot just run rogue database queries or trigger site breaking plugin
- 2:42updates without a human approving the action plan first.
- 2:45Human in the loop guardrails, right.
- 2:46Because nobody wants an AI agent trying to optimize a database at three in the
- 2:51morning and accidentally dropping primary keys or creating massive plugin conflicts
- 2:56on a live e-commerce site.
- 2:57Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:58And it is not just backend database tasks that are turning conversational.
- 3:03Look at what Frontman is doing on the front end.
- 3:05It applies natural language instructions directly to live page previews.
- 3:10You literally point at a section in a real time visual canvas and tell it to adjust
- 3:14spacing or change layout logic, and it updates right in front of you.
- 3:18That changes the visual dynamic entirely.
- 3:21When an AI agent can read the visual layer and interpret live previews like Frontman
- 3:25does, you move far beyond the old block editor.
- 3:29You are effectively conversing with your design system.
- 3:31So if LolaCore builds plugins inside WP Admin, Agentric AI handles backend
- 3:36maintenance under guardrails, and Frontman handles visual design through live
- 3:40previews, what happens to traditional agency retainers in 2026?
- 3:44Are client maintenance plans totally dead?
- 3:46I, I, I do not think retainers die, but the actual work shifts completely.
- 3:51Developers will stop spending hours manually configuring plugins,
- 3:55running basic updates, or fixing broken CSS layouts.
- 3:59Instead, our role becomes acting as supervisors for autonomous agents.
- 4:04We set the parameters, review the proposed changes, approve the deployment,
- 4:08and handle edge cases.
- 4:09It transforms the developer into an orchestrator.
- 4:12Instead of clicking through twenty plugin settings screens,
- 4:14you supervise native agents that understand the site structure,
- 4:18respect security guardrails, and execute tasks in seconds.
- 4:21That is a massive leap forward for site management.
- 4:24Alright, good chatting, talk soon!
