- 0:01Failure turns out to be the stepping stone to success.
- 0:05We tend to become obsessed with being perfect in the spiritual
- 0:09sadhna. We identify things we should be
- 0:12thinking, things we should be doing, ways we should be acting
- 0:16and responding to situations, and create for ourselves a set
- 0:21of rules or guidelines that we believe act as the markers of
- 0:25our success in the sadhna. The problem with this approach
- 0:29is that it is entirely based in the ego.
- 0:32It focuses on the wrong metric of progress.
- 0:36No human being can expect to overcome the deeply embedded
- 0:40habits and reactions of human nature or the socialization he
- 0:44has undergone from time of birth forward.
- 0:47It is therefore obvious that any standard that sets perfection as
- 0:52the marker from the outset is doomed to either fail or wind up
- 0:58with self deception. Some of the habits of human
- 1:02nature, having developed over many millennia, are not so
- 1:06easily transformed in their nature.
- 1:09Habits of mind, habits of emotion, habits of vital
- 1:13reaction, habits of physical response all need to be
- 1:18patiently viewed, understood and systematically adjusted.
- 1:24This is not a work for days, weeks or months.
- 1:28It is a work for a lifetime or more.
- 1:32As long as the predilection remains active in humanity, it
- 1:37is also possible for it to rise again in the individual.
- 1:42Transformation of human nature under the impulsion of the next
- 1:45phase of evolution of consciousness is a more or less
- 1:50thankless job. What is important is to be able
- 1:54to maintain the aspiration and avoid discouragement as these
- 1:58things recur and try to reassert themselves.
- 2:03Once the seeker relieves himself of the burden of guilt and
- 2:06depression that arises based on the false premises of the
- 2:10perfection standpoint, he will find it much easier to go on
- 2:14with the work relentlessly, patiently and with a strong will
- 2:20and focused aspiration, Sriorobindo writes.
- 2:24Quote Whether by tapasya or surrender does not matter.
- 2:30The one thing is to be firm in settings one's face to the goal.
- 2:35Once one has set one's feet on the way, how can one draw back
- 2:39from it to something inferior? IF1 keeps firm, falls do not
- 2:44matter. One rises up again and goes
- 2:47forward. If one is firm towards the goal,
- 2:51there can be on the way to the divine no eventual failure.
- 2:56And if there is something within you that drives as surely there
- 3:00is. Falterings or falls or failure
- 3:03of faith make no eventual difference.
- 3:07One has to go on till the struggle is over and there is
- 3:11the straight and open and thornless way before us.
