- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on everybody? Jeff
- 0:15Speaker 1: Mosher and Adam Kaplan and I am gonna personally dedicate
- 0:19Speaker 1: this podcast, Adam for people in my neck of the
- 0:22Speaker 1: woods of Jersey who are maybe listening to this while
- 0:25Speaker 1: they're digging themselves out of their driveways this morning, because
- 0:29Speaker 1: even as of Saturday night in my area, the howling winds,
- 0:33Speaker 1: the snow, the snow was so thick it was like
- 0:35Speaker 1: it was like the sky dumping up.
- 0:37Speaker 2: In Sunday night.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Yea Sunday night. I was like the sky was like
- 0:41Speaker 1: a big slushie was falling through the sky all night.
- 0:44Speaker 1: That's how heavy and wet the snow was. So I'm
- 0:47Speaker 1: sure a lot of people will have to dig themselves
- 0:49Speaker 1: out this morning in our area, and hopefully they can
- 0:51Speaker 1: listen to the podcast at the same time.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It really gets good time to do it. Yeah, you're right.
- 0:56Speaker 2: The shame of it is for those of you who
- 0:57Speaker 2: are living in New Jersey, Delaware, Philly, that area. We
- 1:02Speaker 2: just got such a melting It was like, oh, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 2: spring's coming, but the only right light we've got coming
- 1:10Speaker 2: is we got it now again. That it's if it
- 1:12Speaker 2: doesn't change again, this coming weekend should be in the fifties. Yes,
- 1:17Speaker 2: and maybe we'll get some massive melting again. But it's
- 1:19Speaker 2: just a shame because man, it gets depressing. It. It's tough. Yes,
- 1:24Speaker 2: winner's been tough. What roughest we've had in years? The
- 1:26Speaker 2: wind too.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Oh no, you make a great point. It was so nice,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I mean relatively speaking. On Saturday when it got up
- 1:33Speaker 1: to about fifty degrees. I finally saw like my entire
- 1:36Speaker 1: street in lawn with no even though it was raining,
- 1:39Speaker 1: you just saw green, right, You saw what your street
- 1:42Speaker 1: looked like again. And then for that to all go
- 1:44Speaker 1: away twenty four hours later. But you're right. Hopefully this
- 1:47Speaker 1: won't last long. And the other thing that might be
- 1:50Speaker 1: uplifting for people is that if you really, if you're
- 1:53Speaker 1: a football junkie, the Combine starts this week, you'll be there.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Andrew de Cheko will be there. We're gonna preview right
- 2:00Speaker 1: now in this podcast. We're going to start a big
- 2:03Speaker 1: preview of free agency because that is the main discussion
- 2:06Speaker 1: the Combine participants are about the draft, but we always
- 2:09Speaker 1: say the discussions what goes on in Indianapolis is really
- 2:13Speaker 1: about free agency because that starts almost as soon as
- 2:16Speaker 1: things come back. You'll see guys get extensions even before
- 2:19Speaker 1: the start of the league year, which is March ninth,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I believe is the start of the legal tampa p No.
- 2:24Speaker 2: The eleventh would be the start of the league year.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I believe, Well, the eleventh is the official start, but
- 2:28Speaker 1: I think ninth is the start of the legal tampering periods.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, the league year would start Wednesday, the eleventh,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I believe.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You know, you know, all the big news will be
- 2:36Speaker 1: done by then.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Right, Oh god, Monday is ridiculous, and we're talking about
- 2:40Speaker 2: the center Patreon chat. Some folks actually like that. They
- 2:43Speaker 2: it goes like this since they changed it. Yep. Well,
- 2:47Speaker 2: as we said before, thank god, we don't have to
- 2:49Speaker 2: do we don't have to start looking at things at midnight. Yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 2: that was just the most ridiculous thing. Yeah, that will
- 2:57Speaker 2: not happen again. I can assure you GMS hated it.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So free agency is important because you and I did
- 3:03Speaker 1: a good roundtable discussion for our Patreon folks with Andrew
- 3:06Speaker 1: to check out was our monthly chalk talk, and it
- 3:09Speaker 1: was in the midst of really good conversations about where
- 3:12Speaker 1: the Eagles are and where they're going that we all
- 3:14Speaker 1: kind of realized for as much talent as they do
- 3:17Speaker 1: have because of some changing forces we'll see. I mean,
- 3:20Speaker 1: the AJ Brown thing is separate. This is a bigger
- 3:22Speaker 1: discussion is that they actually have more needs than you
- 3:25Speaker 1: might think. They're still a good team, but they've got
- 3:28Speaker 1: needs and depth especially and that as we always say,
- 3:32Speaker 1: you fill your immediate needs with free agency. It doesn't
- 3:34Speaker 1: mean you have to go sign everybody five year deals.
- 3:36Speaker 1: It can be one year deals for veterans who fill
- 3:39Speaker 1: a hole or help you become a bridge to your
- 3:42Speaker 1: next player. But the Eagles, the Eagles have needs and
- 3:45Speaker 1: maybe more than we think, and we went through them.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So everybody wants to really listen to that great chalk talk,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you got to go to Patreon, Patreon dot com, slash
- 3:54Speaker 1: inside the Birds. We also had a fantastic by the way,
- 3:58Speaker 1: fantastic chat are monthly Ask an Eagle with a guy
- 4:02Speaker 1: we had never had on our platform before. Bobby Taylor
- 4:06Speaker 1: cornerback Bobby Taylor Pro Bowl cornerback from the Andy Reid Days,
- 4:09Speaker 1: well actually technically the Ray Rhads days, right, and then
- 4:11Speaker 1: then it became the Andy Reid Days. But he was awesome.
- 4:15Speaker 1: It wasn't he just so full of great stories and
- 4:18Speaker 1: memories and honesty and it was really cool.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah he was. He was incredible. Yeah he It was
- 4:25Speaker 2: one of those things where you would watch him play
- 4:28Speaker 2: and you go, that's what a cornerback should look like.
- 4:30Speaker 2: M H. I think he had some knee problems late
- 4:32Speaker 2: in his career that might have shortened a little bit.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I mean, he ended his career with the Seahawks, but
- 4:36Speaker 2: he was He's like what you want in a corner man. Long, talented, smart, tough,
- 4:42Speaker 2: good tackler, and he told some incredible stories. And what
- 4:45Speaker 2: blew us away is when he's like, yeah, you guys
- 4:48Speaker 2: asked me questions. I want to ask you questions. Like
- 4:50Speaker 2: he was like really fired up. A good job by
- 4:52Speaker 2: you to to contact him. Then we've got I can't
- 4:55Speaker 2: say yeah because I've in contact with the guy. We
- 4:57Speaker 2: got another one from his era who were on Facebook.
- 5:00Speaker 2: The other's a former player on offense. And this guy
- 5:03Speaker 2: surprised me just because I don't think he was you know,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't know him to be talkative. And
- 5:08Speaker 2: this guy's like all sorts of conversations like, oh, this
- 5:10Speaker 2: could be interesting. We need to get this guy.
- 5:12Speaker 1: That's right, anyway, So yeah, great things coming up on
- 5:14Speaker 1: the Patreon platform and of course patreon dot com slash
- 5:17Speaker 1: Inside the Birds, And the biggest perk is you get
- 5:19Speaker 1: every single podcast that we do early the night before
- 5:22Speaker 1: usually if not even sooner, and commercial free read free.
- 5:27Speaker 1: It is just us talking ball with people and no
- 5:31Speaker 1: interference from ads or commercials, and that's one of the
- 5:34Speaker 1: great perks about being a Patreon member. So, like I said,
- 5:37Speaker 1: we're gonna start going into free agency. In this podcast,
- 5:40Speaker 1: we'll talk about quarterbacks and Adam. This is another thing
- 5:43Speaker 1: that came through the discussion that we had about the
- 5:46Speaker 1: Eagles and their needs. When when a team, and we've
- 5:50Speaker 1: seen this with the Eagles has a new either head
- 5:52Speaker 1: coach or a new coordinator and that person is bringing
- 5:56Speaker 1: in a new concept to scheme, whatever it is, you
- 5:59Speaker 1: often see some moves in free agency that are intended
- 6:02Speaker 1: to bring someone familiar with that scheme in so they
- 6:05Speaker 1: can help everybody out. I mean, the most recent example
- 6:07Speaker 1: would be when I guess Kellen Moore was offensive coordinator
- 6:11Speaker 1: and they brought in Will Greer. Right, he wasn't gonna
- 6:14Speaker 1: win a job, he wasn't going to be the starter
- 6:16Speaker 1: of the backup but he was there to almost be
- 6:18Speaker 1: like another coach to help the quarterbacks learn what Kellen
- 6:22Speaker 1: Moore wanted because he had played for Kellen Moore. We
- 6:24Speaker 1: saw Gannon bringing guys from either the Indianapolis or Minnesota
- 6:29Speaker 1: Chane where he had come from. And then we even
- 6:31Speaker 1: saw Nick Sirianni bringing a guy like Zach paskeal right,
- 6:36Speaker 1: who had played for him in Indianapolis. So as we
- 6:38Speaker 1: look at quarterbacks and we don't know exactly what's gonna
- 6:41Speaker 1: happen with Tanner McKee and Sam Howell is going to
- 6:44Speaker 1: be a free agent, it'd be interesting to see if
- 6:46Speaker 1: the Eagles will try to find like a number three
- 6:49Speaker 1: veteran or if they do wind up trading McKee like
- 6:52Speaker 1: a number two who has played in this West Coast
- 6:55Speaker 1: system that Manion is familiar with and that this quarterback
- 6:58Speaker 1: would be familiar with.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Look, the bottom line is, when you look at free
- 7:01Speaker 2: and see it's so bad, what's out there? Eagles have
- 7:03Speaker 2: leverage here. We're gonna We're gonna do a lot of
- 7:06Speaker 2: general speaking about what the league looks like. But I
- 7:09Speaker 2: could tie from checking into it. There at least eight
- 7:11Speaker 2: teams right now cannot tell you who their starting quarterback
- 7:13Speaker 2: is going to be. They just can't they could, Like
- 7:16Speaker 2: the Vikings can't tell you that. First of all, they
- 7:17Speaker 2: don't have a general manager, Roberts getting us their contracts. Yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 2: the guy drafted them with Duffel Mensa was fired, robertsinski
- 7:26Speaker 2: their contract and GOOTI here is the interim GM. I mean,
- 7:30Speaker 2: he's got guys under him who are gonna help him,
- 7:33Speaker 2: but so they don't know. So they're gonna have to
- 7:36Speaker 2: bring it someone to compete against McCarthy. You've got the
- 7:39Speaker 2: Kyler Merry thing, which is a total quagmar. His contract
- 7:42Speaker 2: is so player friendly it's ridiculous.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yep.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I mean when you look at it, Dolphins don't know,
- 7:47Speaker 2: the Jets don't know, Pittsburgh doesn't know, Cleveland doesn't know. Yep.
- 7:52Speaker 2: The Raiders don't know. It's gonna be Mendos obviously, but
- 7:54Speaker 2: they we haven't gotten the draft yet.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Right, but they'll still need a competent backup just in case.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I mean, they're going to have to eat unosbith a
- 8:03Speaker 2: bunch of guaranteed money, right. Yeah. Legitimately there are eight
- 8:06Speaker 2: teams who can now tell you, so the Eagles or
- 8:09Speaker 2: any team that's got like I put this on sports
- 8:13Speaker 2: Grid in January. I said it's going to come out
- 8:14Speaker 2: at some point, but I could tell you just from
- 8:16Speaker 2: talking to teams that Mac Jones is going to receive
- 8:19Speaker 2: a ton of interest. He's got one year left on
- 8:21Speaker 2: his deal at just under four point seven million. He
- 8:24Speaker 2: was phenomena. I was told playing filling our Brock party. Yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 2: whatever happened happened between him and Belichick. That's history in
- 8:32Speaker 2: the West Coast offense. Remember Brian Horror telling me he
- 8:35Speaker 2: could process like that was the one thing he knew
- 8:37Speaker 2: when he was with him with the Patriots. He could
- 8:40Speaker 2: see it very early, and unfortunately he had a fall
- 8:43Speaker 2: on with Belichick. It didn't work. Man. It is so
- 8:46Speaker 2: hard to find quality backup quarterback play to.
- 8:50Speaker 1: That's why I'm fascinated to see what a guy like
- 8:53Speaker 1: Malik Willis gets who shined in a very limited dose
- 8:57Speaker 1: for the Packers. I mean, he clearly did better with
- 8:59Speaker 1: the Packers that he did in Tennessee. You know, he
- 9:02Speaker 1: had good coaching and he had good infrastructure around him
- 9:04Speaker 1: in Green Bay, and you know there's a lot of
- 9:08Speaker 1: you know, so I guess in the window that he
- 9:10Speaker 1: would Miami would be interested because their head coaches Jeff
- 9:13Speaker 1: Haffley who came from Green Bay.
- 9:14Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah, gym right and Halfley too right.
- 9:18Speaker 2: And Halfley right yeah yeah both yeah, I mean, yeah, boy,
- 9:23Speaker 2: it's halfway from the defensive side of the football and
- 9:26Speaker 2: the GM John er X Sulvan whose dad Jerry, one
- 9:31Speaker 2: of the best receivers coaches NFL history. Man, he is
- 9:33Speaker 2: a riot. He's loved meeting him, getting to know him
- 9:36Speaker 2: a little bit just from attending events. But Malik Willis,
- 9:41Speaker 2: it's really a true he was horrendous with Tennessee. He
- 9:43Speaker 2: just wasn't ready. He was thrown in there when he
- 9:44Speaker 2: wasn't ready now and very as you said, very limited
- 9:47Speaker 2: playing time. Okay, let let's I mean they he just
- 9:51Speaker 2: didn't throw the football. Really. I mean when you look
- 9:53Speaker 2: at it's it's just kind of funny because I understand
- 9:58Speaker 2: he hasn't played a lot of football. I mean this
- 10:00Speaker 2: past season, I mean, he he was great. I mean
- 10:05Speaker 2: in terms of accuracy, he's actually his way up. But
- 10:07Speaker 2: in the one start me only throwing only football twenty
- 10:10Speaker 2: one times. Yeah, you know, so let's not go crazy
- 10:14Speaker 2: like it's a it's a cool story. He started to
- 10:17Speaker 2: mature a little bit in a West Coast offense, by
- 10:19Speaker 2: the way, and it started to look a lot better
- 10:22Speaker 2: where you because I remember him at the Senior Bowl.
- 10:25Speaker 2: He had an enormous arm, smaller guy, but he had
- 10:28Speaker 2: no accuracy. He just was so far away from being
- 10:30Speaker 2: ready to play. But it's in a quarterback star of league,
- 10:34Speaker 2: and it's it's hard to find guys who've got this
- 10:37Speaker 2: much time. He's young, he hasn't really had a big
- 10:39Speaker 2: injury history. The other two starts that he had in
- 10:41Speaker 2: twenty twenty four one start fourteen in towns one starts
- 10:46Speaker 2: another start fifteen. So you can't be thinking that like
- 10:49Speaker 2: people saying, ah, he's getting a twenty five million yeire,
- 10:51Speaker 2: what are you talking to?
- 10:52Speaker 1: No, No, you can't even you can't sign him to
- 10:55Speaker 1: be your definitive starter. Are you gonna sign him to
- 10:57Speaker 1: have him compete with somebody else?
- 10:58Speaker 2: Guy? Yeah, Daniel Daniel Jones is a great example. Good,
- 11:01Speaker 2: good one. Daniel Jones would be the perfect example. Signed
- 11:03Speaker 2: for one year of fifteen million, right and now could
- 11:07Speaker 2: he get a two year deal? Look on your point
- 11:09Speaker 2: with Miami because of their familiarity with him, of course
- 11:12Speaker 2: they're going to have to eat a lot of money
- 11:13Speaker 2: with Tua. But look, they need a quarterback, right, This
- 11:15Speaker 2: is a bad draft man. After Mendoza, we would not
- 11:18Speaker 2: see another one going in the first round. It's true.
- 11:20Speaker 2: I no lock, no lock, you know. So if you
- 11:25Speaker 2: need one, you're looking for one, and folks, the other
- 11:29Speaker 2: than Willis kirk Cousins is going to be cut Rogers.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I know the Steelers of interests bringing him back. Daniel
- 11:35Speaker 2: Jones is coming back from a major injury. Other than that,
- 11:39Speaker 2: Juno Smith likely to be cut. Why because he's They're
- 11:42Speaker 2: going to draft Mendoza and they can't. Just to give
- 11:45Speaker 2: you an idea, Howard, I don't know why the Raiders felt.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I get that Pete Carroll's this guy. I understand that,
- 11:52Speaker 2: But why do they have to give him fully guaranteed
- 11:54Speaker 2: money in year two?
- 11:56Speaker 1: He's got Who are they competing against?
- 11:59Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, thank you, that's my line. They're not
- 12:02Speaker 2: at any but they were training for him for christ sake,
- 12:05Speaker 2: like so I'm glad you use that phrase. So year
- 12:10Speaker 2: two his cash is twenty six point five million. They
- 12:13Speaker 2: fully guaranteed its signing eighteen point five million, and then
- 12:17Speaker 2: the rest of it becomes fully guaranteed on March thirteenth,
- 12:21Speaker 2: fifth day of the league year. Like why, like why? Why?
- 12:27Speaker 1: Great question?
- 12:28Speaker 2: What? What's that?
- 12:29Speaker 1: That's a great it's a great question.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I don't know. I just don't understand. It's not like
- 12:32Speaker 2: them to do that. I know that they don't go
- 12:35Speaker 2: in thinking he'll fail. He was horrendous, like the left
- 12:38Speaker 2: tackle missed most of the season, calt Miller. They're one
- 12:41Speaker 2: of the worst offensive we've ever seen. But man, I
- 12:44Speaker 2: don't know. So it's just it's just that it just
- 12:49Speaker 2: didn't work obviously, and Pete's Pete was canned. So and
- 12:53Speaker 2: Chip Kelly, oh my god, was he bad as an
- 12:55Speaker 2: alice coordinator. It was just a disaster. And Okay, do
- 12:58Speaker 2: you know could go somewhere if they can't trade him,
- 13:00Speaker 2: which seems to be realistic and they caught him, he
- 13:04Speaker 2: might go somewhere to be a compete guy, which compete
- 13:06Speaker 2: for starting job?
- 13:07Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, any of those teams that you mentioned, right,
- 13:09Speaker 1: whether the Cardinals or the Jets or the well he
- 13:12Speaker 1: was already with the Jets ones, but still, any of
- 13:15Speaker 1: those teams that need a quarterback that someone who can
- 13:17Speaker 1: be a professional right away, then yeah, of course you're
- 13:20Speaker 1: gonna want to actually it's gonna be pretty interesting because
- 13:23Speaker 1: of all those teams you mentioned, and because Gino has
- 13:25Speaker 1: been a decent quarterback at times that he might have
- 13:28Speaker 1: a pretty decent market, so cause they're gonna be like
- 13:30Speaker 1: you just said, there's just not a lot of options.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And if you need a quarterback and you've got cap
- 13:35Speaker 1: space or you got cash up front, bam, yep, that
- 13:38Speaker 1: becomes really vital. So those are the four main guys
- 13:40Speaker 1: you just mentioned. Daniel Jones, Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, and
- 13:44Speaker 1: Malik Willis on a different tier there and it'll be
- 13:48Speaker 1: interesting to see where they all want to. If you're
- 13:49Speaker 1: the Colts, you can't have gone through everything you went through,
- 13:51Speaker 1: made those trades to let Daniel Jones now walk out
- 13:55Speaker 1: the door even though he has he has to come
- 13:57Speaker 1: back from another major injury. Like it's hard to you
- 14:00Speaker 1: got no first round picks now because of the trades
- 14:02Speaker 1: you made. You gotta like you're gonna have to pay
- 14:04Speaker 1: him something to have him come back, And well I would.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I wouldn't put the friend I put the transition tag
- 14:10Speaker 2: on him because you right first refusal. I'd absolutely do that. Yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 2: I'm with you, And this is a torn Achilles. You
- 14:17Speaker 2: have the a c L with the Giants, and you
- 14:22Speaker 2: don't like that he's coming off that. And plus because
- 14:23Speaker 2: he's such a runner, you don't like that he's coming
- 14:25Speaker 2: off that injury. That does limit him because he had
- 14:28Speaker 2: the ankle injury last season before it tore the Achilles.
- 14:31Speaker 2: And man, you're right, they're so boxed in. They're so
- 14:35Speaker 2: boxed in.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And Anthony Richardson has been so bad you can't trust him.
- 14:41Speaker 2: It's there. They're in a tough way. Man, this is
- 14:44Speaker 2: not a year two need a quarterback, I'm telling you.
- 14:46Speaker 2: So there might be some guy. Look Tanner mckeeth, he
- 14:50Speaker 2: goes have tremendous leverage here. Yeah, this is just an
- 14:53Speaker 2: opinion and I might change my mind on this one
- 14:56Speaker 2: based on what I find out this coming week. I
- 14:59Speaker 2: don't see them trading for less than one. I know
- 15:01Speaker 2: the Washington game wasn't good. I get that. That's that's fair.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I mean it was as Greg Sel said, he he
- 15:08Speaker 2: probably was keeping himself at Knight with some frozy missed
- 15:11Speaker 2: he would not miss, but didn't he played. He was
- 15:13Speaker 2: very uneven that game. Now that Daris Cooper and he
- 15:16Speaker 2: not had that dumb penalty that Peoples probably would have
- 15:17Speaker 2: won that game. But nevertheless that you can't look, he
- 15:20Speaker 2: didn't play well in that one game. But yep, he's
- 15:23Speaker 2: got He's got a lot you like, size, arm strength.
- 15:27Speaker 2: He's not an athlete, but man, his his mobility is
- 15:29Speaker 2: improved greatly from what we saw when he literally was
- 15:31Speaker 2: a statue of liberty when he was drafted. Yeah. So,
- 15:36Speaker 2: but other than that, I mean, you look at the
- 15:37Speaker 2: the the the backup list, Sam Howe, Garoppolo, Wentz coming
- 15:42Speaker 2: off a shoulder surgery, Flacco, my understanding, he still wants
- 15:45Speaker 2: to play, Mariota Pickett, Tyrod Taylor, Russell Wilson. The question
- 15:51Speaker 2: is did why did he even want to? He's made
- 15:53Speaker 2: so much money, he's almost a third stringer now want
- 15:56Speaker 2: to play?
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I don't even know if the market for
- 16:02Speaker 1: even within a bare quarterback market. I'm just not sure
- 16:05Speaker 1: the tape has been good enough anymore to even bring
- 16:07Speaker 1: the guy in to compete.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I mean, just for a roll it. He's not gonna be
- 16:10Speaker 2: a FIRS starting job. We're just talking about it. Roll
- 16:12Speaker 2: It's so good, right right, Trubisky, Trey lance Man, he
- 16:16Speaker 2: never made it well, Minshew Eastern Stick case Kenean zach Wells.
- 16:22Speaker 2: So what an awful list overall?
- 16:24Speaker 1: All right, So I have two thoughts on what you said.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I want to make sure I get to both of them. Sure, First,
- 16:30Speaker 1: I'm the key. My initial thought up until recently when
- 16:35Speaker 1: we started talking about this podcast was that I could
- 16:38Speaker 1: see McKee going for a top fifty. It didn't have
- 16:42Speaker 1: to be an overall number one, like a number one
- 16:44Speaker 1: first round pick. It would be top fifty. I would
- 16:47Speaker 1: have thought that good business. But to your point, with
- 16:51Speaker 1: so many teams needing quarterbacks, it would be very how
- 16:54Speaker 1: we like to just let that first wave sign, Let
- 16:57Speaker 1: the first four guys, you know, Rab Jones, Cousins, Garoppolo,
- 17:02Speaker 1: maybe even let them sign, and then find those three
- 17:05Speaker 1: teams that still need a starting quarterback that couldn't get
- 17:08Speaker 1: one of those, and see if they you hold them
- 17:11Speaker 1: to the fire. Now you give me a one for
- 17:12Speaker 1: Tanner McKee, because what you got is not Tanner McKee
- 17:15Speaker 1: right now. So I could see Howie being shrew let
- 17:18Speaker 1: that let those first guys sign, because so many teams,
- 17:21Speaker 1: as you just mentioned, need starting quarterbacks, that teams will
- 17:24Speaker 1: get desperate once the mark, once the pool starts to
- 17:27Speaker 1: shallow out. And if you're say the Jets and you
- 17:31Speaker 1: didn't get Daniel Jones or Aaron Well, you're not getting
- 17:34Speaker 1: Aarro rounded with the Jets that that ship sailed you
- 17:37Speaker 1: don't you don't get you don't get Kirk Cousins and
- 17:39Speaker 1: maybe Milike Willis does go to Miami and now you're
- 17:41Speaker 1: looking at the crop here do out Carson Wentz, Sam
- 17:44Speaker 1: owl flat. Oh no, then you start to and you
- 17:46Speaker 1: and by the way, the Jets have a million picks
- 17:49Speaker 1: right from all the trades, so and the Jets and
- 17:51Speaker 1: Eagles seem to seemingly always make trades. So my point is,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I think I agree with you in that how we
- 17:55Speaker 1: can let this thing play out knowing that demand is
- 17:59Speaker 1: far greater then supply, and that will probably drive the
- 18:02Speaker 1: price up for Mickey.
- 18:03Speaker 2: That built leverage exactly where I was going. The Eagles
- 18:04Speaker 2: would have tremendousis I want to say at the top, they
- 18:06Speaker 2: would have benist leverage if they are willing to engage
- 18:10Speaker 2: and try and how he getting enough teams involved where
- 18:14Speaker 2: he can get possibly a one or even if it's
- 18:16Speaker 2: a two and a five whatever. Now obviously that team
- 18:19Speaker 2: is putting there, they're putting it out there. Yeah, they
- 18:22Speaker 2: would be. I mean, if you're making that kind of trade,
- 18:26Speaker 2: there's no debate. Mcke's your guy. You're giving up significant competition.
- 18:29Speaker 2: He comes in, there's no there's no challenge, there's no competition.
- 18:32Speaker 2: He is the guy. Yeah, and you better be right,
- 18:35Speaker 2: because when you miss a quarterback, man, it sets you back.
- 18:39Speaker 1: My second thought was looking at that pool of the
- 18:43Speaker 1: second or third tier, if you want to call him
- 18:44Speaker 1: free aging quarterbacks that we were just talking about. If
- 18:48Speaker 1: you're Manion and you want to bring in a guy
- 18:50Speaker 1: that is comfortable with your scheme and can could be
- 18:52Speaker 1: that guy. If you're keeping McKee and you're looking for
- 18:54Speaker 1: a number three, Trey Lance might be that guy. You mean,
- 18:58Speaker 1: he's drafted by the forty nine ers, just play in
- 19:00Speaker 1: the Shanahan offense. You know, he's someone who can. I mean,
- 19:03Speaker 1: he probably still has to show himself growth, but he
- 19:06Speaker 1: does know the offense. And same thing with Garoppolo. Now,
- 19:10Speaker 1: Garoppolo might be more of a still of a good
- 19:13Speaker 1: backup at this point. And if you're keeping McKee, I'm
- 19:15Speaker 1: not sure if you're bringing Garoppolo to be a three,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I don't know where he's at.
- 19:18Speaker 2: No, you're not bringing you're bringing. I don't think that's
- 19:20Speaker 2: gonna happen.
- 19:21Speaker 1: But if you lost McKee, he would be I think
- 19:24Speaker 1: an ideal. Oh yeah, because of his knowledge of the offense.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yeah, look, they wanted, they want this offense that they're
- 19:30Speaker 2: gonna runs timing based certainly, no doubt about it. A
- 19:35Speaker 2: couple of these guys have played in it before. But man,
- 19:38Speaker 2: it's just this is the worst that I've seen it.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Not that quarterbacks should never be great in fregency, you
- 19:44Speaker 2: shouldn't be letting good quarterbacks make it. But there's a
- 19:46Speaker 2: reason Jones injury history, Rogers Age Causin is going to
- 19:51Speaker 2: be cut because of his contract. Willis has just been
- 19:55Speaker 2: I mean, it's a good story. That became a quality backup.
- 19:58Speaker 2: He's certainly a quality backup. He's now deaf like based
- 20:00Speaker 2: on I know it's very limited and didn't throw the
- 20:02Speaker 2: ball up, but when he did, boy, he's actually he's better.
- 20:04Speaker 2: He's making better decisions, he's he's not hauling the balls long,
- 20:08Speaker 2: and he's just got he's got. There's a lot of
- 20:10Speaker 2: ability there. He was just super raw, uh when he
- 20:14Speaker 2: was drafted and now you see it. So his market
- 20:18Speaker 2: will be fascinating to see what happens with him. But overall, man,
- 20:22Speaker 2: there's a singing in the national football like when you
- 20:23Speaker 2: don't have one, you're looking for one, and there's so
- 20:25Speaker 2: many teams that need one.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Yeah, was there any other name that stuck in? I
- 20:28Speaker 1: mean Carson Wentz? No, this is not a no. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: mean he did. He did just play in Minnesota, so
- 20:34Speaker 1: he does have that kind of now that background of it.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But I don't know if you go you're not going
- 20:38Speaker 1: back to that.
- 20:39Speaker 2: That's not going back here. Yeah, major shoulder surgery.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Torod Taylor's been around for a while, so I
- 20:46Speaker 1: would imagine he could learn an offense very quickly, but
- 20:48Speaker 1: it's still not someone who's going to help teach it
- 20:51Speaker 1: to everybody else while he's still learning it.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yeah. So no matter what team, not just the Eagles,
- 20:55Speaker 2: whatever team needs a back up, it's Garoppolo. It's how
- 20:59Speaker 2: will be fast because you got to go back a
- 21:02Speaker 2: while since he's played, but very intriguing and that this
- 21:05Speaker 2: is the time when Ark the enemy was seemingly calm
- 21:07Speaker 2: passes every down Yeah, Washington. Oh see Flack Flacco showed
- 21:12Speaker 2: he could still sling it, but he's not what he
- 21:14Speaker 2: was with the Browns when he put the team on
- 21:15Speaker 2: his back, Mariota was not terrible. Well he let's put
- 21:20Speaker 2: it this way, he looked way better with the Commandos
- 21:22Speaker 2: than he did here in Philly.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Lance, to me, he's just so raw that he's never
- 21:28Speaker 2: been able to be with the staff that could develop him.
- 21:33Speaker 2: You just you need, you need someone to want the
- 21:35Speaker 2: guy he's got. He's got good size, he moves well enough,
- 21:39Speaker 2: he's got a big arm. He just needs somebody to
- 21:41Speaker 2: want him and to develop him. And that's pretty much it. Man,
- 21:45Speaker 2: that the boy this is. I mean, like I said,
- 21:49Speaker 2: we may not see two quarterbacks going in the first round.
- 21:51Speaker 2: That's ridiculous, but could happen.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, No, I'm with you on Lance. I mean,
- 21:55Speaker 1: if you if you wind up keep holding on to
- 21:57Speaker 1: Tanner McKee and you're just looking for that number three,
- 21:59Speaker 1: a guy that A knows the offensive B maybe you
- 22:01Speaker 1: can you can develop and you can finally reach then
- 22:05Speaker 1: it makes a lot of sense there, a lot more
- 22:07Speaker 1: than some of the other names that we were talking about.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Were just like, I could you see Joe Flacco coming? Nah,
- 22:11Speaker 1: I don't think that that's that's what their their aim
- 22:14Speaker 1: would be at this point, I don't even know do
- 22:16Speaker 1: you know anything on where Joe Flacco was at if
- 22:18Speaker 1: he still wants to.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Play he wants I understand now I said it earlier.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I'm sorry, he's what he wants to play.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Oh, he does want to play, Okay, all right, Well
- 22:26Speaker 1: he is an interesting one. He's got a lot of experience.
- 22:28Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens with that. But that's a
- 22:30Speaker 1: look at quarterback. By the way, kiss Keenum, not case Keenum.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Eastern Stick jumped out at me because he, uh, he's
- 22:37Speaker 1: basically been with the Chargers.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Right charges the Falcons. Yeah, we we put it out
- 22:42Speaker 2: there that it was either going to be who is it?
- 22:44Speaker 1: Uh?
- 22:45Speaker 2: It was? It was it Pick or it was Easton
- 22:47Speaker 2: Stick and somebody else the Eagles were on.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yes, I remember that. I can't remember now it was Pickets.
- 22:53Speaker 1: There was somebody else in there.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah, well, no, maybe it was they it was they
- 22:57Speaker 2: brought it was either when they traded for Picket or
- 22:59Speaker 2: they brought someone else in as we just know for factors,
- 23:01Speaker 2: either Easton Stick or whoever they got anyway.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Right right, all right, good stuff. That is a look
- 23:07Speaker 1: at the quarterbacks in our next episode. We'll go for
- 23:09Speaker 1: free agent running backs, a very interesting class of free agents,
- 23:13Speaker 1: and that's going to do it for this episode of
- 23:14Speaker 1: Inside the Birds, the Leading Podcast and the Eagles Intel,
- 23:17Speaker 1: and as always, we thank you for flying with us
- 23:21Speaker 1: Inside the Birds
