- 1:28Speaker 5: I may have inadvertently cursed England because I made this
- 1:36Speaker 5: playlist pre match and it's all I mean, have you
- 1:41Speaker 5: have you forged out the comment? Okay, yeah, yeah, I
- 1:46Speaker 5: took a chance. I was like, I just I feel
- 1:48Speaker 5: good about it. So we're going with the all English
- 1:52Speaker 5: artists today, Yeah, Jason.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Cornelius, Jared Hickson today.
- 1:58Speaker 4: When we started the show, right at the top of
- 2:01Speaker 4: the four o'clock hour, that England Argentina match was.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Just blowing up. Within like a few minutes.
- 2:10Speaker 4: With the seventy seventh minute, England takes a one mil
- 2:13Speaker 4: lead in Argentina.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Well you said it was the eighties. Fifth minute was.
- 2:18Speaker 4: The first and to to tie and then come back
- 2:23Speaker 4: with a second goal to take the lead both off
- 2:27Speaker 4: Messi assists to now knock England out of the tournament.
- 2:32Speaker 4: And like it's I'm sure on either side you'd see
- 2:36Speaker 4: little kids crying, but like they just they were able
- 2:39Speaker 4: to hone in on Fox just every little kid white.
- 2:43Speaker 5: And actually that's not Fox, that is the international feed. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 5: so that's the same feed that the entire yeah yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 3: And so yeah, but that that feed like this just
- 2:53Speaker 3: tiny little kids just.
- 2:54Speaker 5: In well and I mean you again, especially if you've
- 3:00Speaker 5: been if you've traveled across the pond really from any country,
- 3:06Speaker 5: but you've traveled across the pond. You've been following your
- 3:08Speaker 5: team for almost three weeks. Now, you've been you know,
- 3:12Speaker 5: city to city. You've enjoyed this ride and it and
- 3:15Speaker 5: it ends like that just heartbreaking at the end, as
- 3:21Speaker 5: Aggie as we know that feeling, because that's that's honestly
- 3:26Speaker 5: how I felt at A and in Miami in our
- 3:30Speaker 5: first playoff game, because you just you felt, you felt
- 3:34Speaker 5: like as as time was ticking down, especially in the
- 3:38Speaker 5: fourth quarter, you just kind of felt like, either it's
- 3:40Speaker 5: gonna happen or it's not. And then when Miami goes up,
- 3:43Speaker 5: and then you know, now we're driving and it seems like, okay,
- 3:47Speaker 5: maybe we can maybe we can tie this up. And
- 3:49Speaker 5: then you throw the interception and it's just like, well,
- 3:52Speaker 5: that's it. But again, we get to at least potentially
- 4:01Speaker 5: exercise those demons. Following late August, recruiting.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Season comes in spring game, and then you have that
- 4:09Speaker 4: lull into the summer and you're just like, oh, like
- 4:12Speaker 4: right now kind of tired of baseball. I don't I mean,
- 4:15Speaker 4: I watched the Summer League but like and then you
- 4:18Speaker 4: start seeing those reels and those memes about like how
- 4:20Speaker 4: many weekends till the how many weekends do we have?
- 4:23Speaker 5: I mean, I mean I've already seen you know, they're
- 4:25Speaker 5: already putting out who the the A and M players
- 4:28Speaker 5: that are going to SEC media.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Days, Media media Days, and so yeah that who cares
- 4:35Speaker 4: about last year? Like last year's over, Like it's exactly
- 4:37Speaker 4: we're ready for this year now. And you're, oh God,
- 4:40Speaker 4: You're like, I here's the You're putting it in the
- 4:45Speaker 4: best perspective. Imagine, as a college football fan, if the
- 4:49Speaker 4: college football season was every four years, Like I can't, like,
- 4:57Speaker 4: as I'm saying it right now, I cannot imagine college
- 5:01Speaker 4: football is every four years.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Now, and especially when you have the talent, like when
- 5:09Speaker 5: you have a truly talented team and you come up short.
- 5:12Speaker 5: That's to me, again, as Aggie's we haven't known this
- 5:17Speaker 5: many times, so we've known it several times. That's where
- 5:21Speaker 5: it just truly socks you in the gut, because that's
- 5:24Speaker 5: when the reality sets in of all those factors that
- 5:28Speaker 5: have to come together for that one moment in time,
- 5:32Speaker 5: you know, thinking nineteen eighties US hockey versus the Soviet Union.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I mean, all those factors have to come into play
- 5:39Speaker 5: it that one time to get that result, and if
- 5:44Speaker 5: you don't do it, it's like there's no you have
- 5:49Speaker 5: no assurance that you're going to get another shot at it.
- 5:53Speaker 5: And with college football at least and especially well especially
- 5:58Speaker 5: pre transfer portal, but we could even say the transfer
- 6:00Speaker 5: portal does kind of help in this regard. You at
- 6:03Speaker 5: least know that, Okay, when we come up short, here's
- 6:07Speaker 5: here's here's where we got to get it fixed, and
- 6:10Speaker 5: we've got five months to do it, to wait three
- 6:15Speaker 5: and a half years.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Because here here's the perfect parallel with that, because you
- 6:20Speaker 4: we we've got our club football, because we've got the NFL.
- 6:23Speaker 3: We've got we've got that.
- 6:25Speaker 4: So that's every year you you've got that, you've got
- 6:27Speaker 4: the super Bowl, same as champions like we.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Would have that covered. Imagine for just the moment, if you.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Will, colleague, because college football has the same kind of
- 6:38Speaker 4: passion as as you you're rooting for your country, when
- 6:43Speaker 4: you're rooting for I mean, that's where that's how.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Deep the passion is, Yes, it is that is that.
- 6:48Speaker 4: I think that is how we can fully explain how
- 6:51Speaker 4: some of these people feel.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Imagine there is there is no difference between Sawing Varsity's
- 6:56Speaker 5: horns off and Norwegian rowing. There is.
- 6:59Speaker 4: You are root like that is the depth of the
- 7:01Speaker 4: passion when you were for World soccer and World Cup
- 7:05Speaker 4: soccer that they're doing. So I'm I'm giving myself a
- 7:09Speaker 4: panic attack thinking what if college football was every four
- 7:16Speaker 4: years and what it would be like. You think battered
- 7:20Speaker 4: aggie syndrome is bad. Now, this is how England is
- 7:24Speaker 4: feeling right now because you put like you've made it
- 7:27Speaker 4: to the semifinals.
- 7:29Speaker 5: I mean, I mean, I hate to say this, England's
- 7:31Speaker 5: at least won the dad gum thing since nineteen thirty
- 7:34Speaker 5: nine and.
- 7:35Speaker 4: That, but right now and they're talking about on sports
- 7:38Speaker 4: right now and being on side of it, but like,
- 7:40Speaker 4: like you've made it to the semifinals. You are leading
- 7:45Speaker 4: in the seventy eighth minute of the match, you've got
- 7:49Speaker 4: to make it twelve minutes plus a little extra and
- 7:55Speaker 4: this team comes back in Argentina and.
- 8:00Speaker 3: And we didn't say, no, they didn't. England did not lose.
- 8:03Speaker 3: They didn't.
- 8:03Speaker 5: They didn't lose. But I'm already seeing it. I'm already
- 8:06Speaker 5: seeing it on my feed where Tukele, the English manager
- 8:11Speaker 5: who has made stellar decisions, stellar substitutions throughout this whole tournament.
- 8:16Speaker 5: It's it's looking there targeting him with the those late
- 8:21Speaker 5: substitutions and the tactical changes that England made. As as
- 8:26Speaker 5: how Argentina was able to come back and and win
- 8:31Speaker 5: this as they have, and you know that was that
- 8:37Speaker 5: was one of the reasons why Garrit Southgate, the previous
- 8:41Speaker 5: English manager, was forced to step down after the Euros
- 8:45Speaker 5: is because of tactical decisions and they just felt like,
- 8:50Speaker 5: if England's going to take the next step, we need
- 8:52Speaker 5: we need someone well basically we need a German UH
- 8:56Speaker 5: to get us there. And now it looks like he
- 8:59Speaker 5: may maybe fall the same fate based on poor tactical
- 9:05Speaker 5: decisions at a very critical juncture, because, as we're pointing
- 9:09Speaker 5: out right now, you don't get another shot at this
- 9:12Speaker 5: for three years.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Yeah, for three more years, which now leads me to
- 9:16Speaker 4: something that I think is especially for me.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I am, I am.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I don't own a single soccer Jersey but I like
- 9:27Speaker 4: to watch I will watch Champions League.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I don't have and you and I have talked about this.
- 9:31Speaker 4: I don't have a club team that I follow, which
- 9:37Speaker 4: makes that's what makes it hard for me to get
- 9:38Speaker 4: into either Premiere or any of the other big.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Leagues around the world.
- 9:42Speaker 4: And so I'm not But how again, World Cup comes on,
- 9:46Speaker 4: I'm gonna watch obviously I'll watch him, but like and
- 9:49Speaker 4: so I saw a story and I'm gonna preface this
- 9:53Speaker 4: with this with this question, how do you think the
- 9:56Speaker 4: US men's team did this World Cup?
- 9:59Speaker 5: I'm glad you brought the subs because I'm going to
- 10:03Speaker 5: give you two answers. The first answer is they did.
- 10:10Speaker 5: They ultimately were successful in one regard. They inspired the
- 10:17Speaker 5: country to get excited about this tournament and specifically this
- 10:24Speaker 5: team for three for four matches, including the loss to Turkey.
- 10:31Speaker 5: I you saw that the United States can get on
- 10:39Speaker 5: a field with international competition, they can score goals, they
- 10:43Speaker 5: can be the aggressors, and they can look like they
- 10:46Speaker 5: can compete. And that forced you then to watch other
- 10:51Speaker 5: countries and see the style of play that they play with.
- 10:56Speaker 5: And so this why say they were successful? If you
- 10:59Speaker 5: now have and this sport is growing in popularity in
- 11:03Speaker 5: this country, and a part of that is because you're
- 11:05Speaker 5: seeing parents more concerned about the long term effects of
- 11:08Speaker 5: playing more popular sports like full contact football.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Set that aside.
- 11:14Speaker 5: If you, if you are, if you, if we were
- 11:17Speaker 5: able to get the younger generations excited about watching the
- 11:22Speaker 5: sport to the point where now they're they're going to
- 11:24Speaker 5: go to YouTube, They're gonna pull up videos, they're going
- 11:26Speaker 5: to see, you know, things that Maradonoda did, Pelee did,
- 11:31Speaker 5: old reels of you know, Messy and Rinaldo, and they're
- 11:35Speaker 5: going to try and do that stuff when they're out
- 11:37Speaker 5: at soccer camps, which I've been seeing that for the
- 11:40Speaker 5: past two nights.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Over at the Purple School.
- 11:44Speaker 5: Then you are potentially setting the stage for what the
- 11:48Speaker 5: United States needs to do, which is you've got to
- 11:51Speaker 5: get the youth more inspired to learn how to play
- 11:55Speaker 5: this game at a cultural level, not at a instructional level,
- 11:59Speaker 5: which is where the United States has been for multiple decades.
- 12:03Speaker 5: The flip side to that, so this is the second
- 12:05Speaker 5: part of that answer is the United States did fail.
- 12:08Speaker 5: The United States men team did fail because we knew this.
- 12:15Speaker 5: We knew we were going to have this World Cup
- 12:19Speaker 5: on our home soil for eight years. You knew that,
- 12:25Speaker 5: you knew the generation of players you had because you've
- 12:27Speaker 5: been bringing them up in the system.
- 12:29Speaker 3: We knew, we knew.
- 12:33Speaker 5: The golden This was supposed to be the Golden generation.
- 12:35Speaker 5: We knew that. And what did we do. We did
- 12:40Speaker 5: the same thing that the United States does in any
- 12:44Speaker 5: level of sport. We make it too bureaucratic. We leave
- 12:48Speaker 5: people in power who don't know how to make good decisions,
- 12:51Speaker 5: and they keep incompetent people like Greg Burke Alter as
- 12:54Speaker 5: your men's national coach two years longer than you should
- 12:57Speaker 5: have been. And then what happens. The team just kind
- 13:00Speaker 5: of flounders for two and a half years leading up
- 13:03Speaker 5: to the World Cup. You don't even you're not even
- 13:05Speaker 5: competitive in in coffee, calf and anything, and so yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 5: and so you you come into this tournament with mixed
- 13:17Speaker 5: emotions because you're not sure how you're gonna do, and
- 13:19Speaker 5: you actually exceed those expectation expectations early. But the biggest thing,
- 13:23Speaker 5: the biggest the one thing you really couldn't do is
- 13:26Speaker 5: what you ended up doing against Belgium, which has come
- 13:28Speaker 5: out play your worst game. None of you, none of
- 13:32Speaker 5: your stars really shot shown in that entire competition, in
- 13:39Speaker 5: that entire match, and you get blown out at home
- 13:43Speaker 5: and it just and you look and you looked bad
- 13:45Speaker 5: doing it. That to me is where we failed, because
- 13:50Speaker 5: I'm not saying you had to beat Belgium that that
- 13:52Speaker 5: would have been the nice part, that would have been
- 13:54Speaker 5: the that would have been the golden ticket, because again
- 13:57Speaker 5: I don't think you're beating Spain in the following round,
- 14:01Speaker 5: but you can't come out and do that. And that's
- 14:04Speaker 5: where we That to me is where we as US
- 14:09Speaker 5: men's soccer failed. Is you just you laid the worst
- 14:14Speaker 5: egg possible. I mean that was that match embodied everything
- 14:18Speaker 5: that we were worried about this squad coming into the
- 14:20Speaker 5: World Cup, Like everything we were worried about came to
- 14:23Speaker 5: fruition and that on top of and that just sets
- 14:27Speaker 5: aside the political bs that occurred leading up to it,
- 14:33Speaker 5: which didn't help, by the way, No.
- 14:34Speaker 3: It absolutely didn't help. And it turned the.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Wavering tide of excitement that everybody had. And one of
- 14:43Speaker 4: the things, and I'm glad you mentioned the leadership of
- 14:48Speaker 4: US Soccer, which also leads to Portuttino not having a
- 14:54Speaker 4: contract after this.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And so whether it is in the actual team.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Leadersh whether there's in coaching leadership, what can we do
- 15:04Speaker 4: because they gave an entire ESPN gave us an entire
- 15:06Speaker 4: list of people that could could replace him, and I'm like, well,
- 15:10Speaker 4: I'm as a casual fan, don't know who any of
- 15:12Speaker 4: those are, but like, this is the man that has
- 15:14Speaker 4: gotten us the most excitement when it comes to actually
- 15:18Speaker 4: watching soccer on the field of men in the playing
- 15:22Speaker 4: for the US men's team, and I don't know how long,
- 15:25Speaker 4: and I'm like, what do we have to do?
- 15:27Speaker 3: Because you remember And the only the.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Only equivalent that that I can put towards this is
- 15:33Speaker 4: when coach k took over the US men's basketball team.
- 15:38Speaker 5: I think, I think that's I think that's a very
- 15:39Speaker 5: apt comparison. I would I would even take it a
- 15:42Speaker 5: step back for I mean, I hope they retain Pochattino. Again.
- 15:47Speaker 5: The biggest problem you have when it comes to international
- 15:50Speaker 5: soccer in comparison to club soccer, which I know you
- 15:52Speaker 5: say you don't watch, is the fact these teams do
- 15:56Speaker 5: not play together except for a couple of weeks during
- 16:00Speaker 5: the seat during the full season. So you're never going
- 16:04Speaker 5: to you're never going to achieve you know, Real Madrid
- 16:07Speaker 5: or PSG or Liverpool or Manchester United levels. And so
- 16:12Speaker 5: it really is incumbent that whoever your manager is is
- 16:17Speaker 5: effective at identifying the players that fit the need for
- 16:22Speaker 5: the style of play and that was poaching. That's where
- 16:24Speaker 5: poach Tino excelled during this this this period that he's
- 16:28Speaker 5: been in charge is he saw what he had and
- 16:32Speaker 5: he put a product on the field to be competitive,
- 16:36Speaker 5: but there was a limitation to how competitive they could
- 16:39Speaker 5: were going to be. The question is when we played
- 16:43Speaker 5: in that Belgium, whether it was going to Belgium or Senegal,
- 16:46Speaker 5: could we could we hit above our punching weight? And
- 16:49Speaker 5: the answer to that question was no. But that goes
- 16:53Speaker 5: back to the fundamental, the fundamental thing that you have
- 16:55Speaker 5: to do. And this is where I want to bring
- 16:58Speaker 5: in another comparison. You brought up coach k with US
- 17:01Speaker 5: men's basketball. I would bring up basketball as a whole.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Think about the history of the sport prior to the eighties,
- 17:12Speaker 5: it is pretty much just a more of your urban
- 17:16Speaker 5: metro and then, for some forsaken reason, the state of
- 17:20Speaker 5: Indiana that is where you see the sport excel. You
- 17:25Speaker 5: don't see it throughout the country. But once it becomes
- 17:28Speaker 5: televised and once it becomes an attractive product with bird
- 17:34Speaker 5: and Magic, and then you go through the eighties with
- 17:37Speaker 5: the Showtime Lakers, and then as we get Michael Jordan
- 17:40Speaker 5: and we get the Bulls, and we get that, the
- 17:42Speaker 5: sport migrates throughout the country so that kids are just
- 17:47Speaker 5: if you've got a basketball and you've got a goal,
- 17:49Speaker 5: you're going to go out and you're going to play.
- 17:51Speaker 5: That's and it ultimately what it had take. It took
- 17:54Speaker 5: about two generations to get us there. That's really what soccer.
- 17:58Speaker 5: If the United States wants to go from basically a
- 18:01Speaker 5: mid tier country too, I'm not saying you're going to
- 18:04Speaker 5: be the top tier, but at least be competitive in
- 18:07Speaker 5: those upper tiers. That's what it's gonna take. And so
- 18:10Speaker 5: that's what I'm saying. If this World Cup did anything,
- 18:13Speaker 5: hopefully it did inspire the youth. And I'm talking specifically boys,
- 18:20Speaker 5: because again women's soccer has done well, but we've also
- 18:24Speaker 5: seen that in just in less than a decade, the
- 18:26Speaker 5: rest of the world has really caught up. And it's
- 18:30Speaker 5: a lot of that is because those girls have been
- 18:32Speaker 5: playing soccer their whole lives. They just haven't been able
- 18:34Speaker 5: to play it on a bigger stage until recently. For
- 18:38Speaker 5: the US boys. That's what it's ultimately going to take
- 18:41Speaker 5: that You've got a soccer ball, and you've got an
- 18:43Speaker 5: open field, and you pretend what's a goal, and they
- 18:46Speaker 5: can go out there and they can just play intuitively.
- 18:48Speaker 5: That's why I say I think basketball is the most
- 18:51Speaker 5: apt comparison because now that it is more visible, that's
- 18:57Speaker 5: how the sport permeates through the culture.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Oh and I guess basketball is a perfect example of that,
- 19:04Speaker 4: because what other sport even basketball and soccer both team sports,
- 19:09Speaker 4: but what other sports? And you said it perfectly that
- 19:11Speaker 4: where you just need the ball and the net and
- 19:14Speaker 4: yourself and you can go out and do it like
- 19:17Speaker 4: you don't need what else do you need to play soccer?
- 19:19Speaker 5: If well, in a lot of part of the world
- 19:21Speaker 5: and a lot of the the world, they're not well
- 19:23Speaker 5: they're not even playing with the real ball. I mean,
- 19:25Speaker 5: they're playing with what they make into a ball. That
- 19:28Speaker 5: that's what I mean. You you hate to say that's
- 19:33Speaker 5: you that this country can do better, But it can
- 19:35Speaker 5: do better. It's just it has to become ingrained in
- 19:38Speaker 5: the culture, and it has to start young. Because, like
- 19:42Speaker 5: I said, when you watch the US play soccer, so
- 19:45Speaker 5: much of it looks instructional. It you can tell that
- 19:49Speaker 5: this is a sport that, yes, these boys have probably
- 19:52Speaker 5: been playing their whole lives, but the way they've been
- 19:54Speaker 5: coached has been from a very instructional level instead of
- 19:57Speaker 5: more of an intuitive level, which is what you I mean,
- 20:00Speaker 5: what you see with not just messy, but with so
- 20:03Speaker 5: many of those guys on the Argentina team, they can
- 20:05Speaker 5: they they play almost with a sixth sense of knowing
- 20:09Speaker 5: the field and knowing what's happening while they're in motion.
- 20:12Speaker 5: We've got some Americans who who can coach that way.
- 20:18Speaker 5: Jeff Gibbons. I don't even know if you're listening because
- 20:20Speaker 5: you're not on Facebook, but I mean he's coached my girls,
- 20:24Speaker 5: and I just try to soak in everything he instructs
- 20:29Speaker 5: because he sees he sees the field in ways that
- 20:33Speaker 5: I probably never will.
- 20:35Speaker 4: What and here's what, going back to how you and
- 20:38Speaker 4: I talk about the business of sports a lot, what
- 20:42Speaker 4: would it take? Because here with what made also basketball
- 20:46Speaker 4: become what it was throughout the eighties and the nineties was.
- 20:50Speaker 3: The NBA being the league?
- 20:54Speaker 4: What and MLS will never be premiere now MLS will
- 20:59Speaker 4: never be La Liga. It will probably like but what
- 21:03Speaker 4: can it What would it take? Other than like if
- 21:08Speaker 4: it is not.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Must see TV on NB like and it's not yet,
- 21:14Speaker 3: and so that's okay.
- 21:15Speaker 5: I think a lot of because you got to think.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Before Matt and Messi's helping with this sum but before
- 21:20Speaker 4: Magic Bird, NBA wasn't on TV no, no, the way
- 21:23Speaker 4: it was with them, So.
- 21:24Speaker 3: What what where is that coming from?
- 21:26Speaker 5: I mean, I think okay, Texas is perfect for this
- 21:30Speaker 5: because we have a true dichotomy going on Austin FC.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Those games sell out all the time. Now you can
- 21:37Speaker 5: get tickets, but I mean those games are largely sell us.
- 21:40Speaker 5: They're huge of their they're big events. I mean I
- 21:42Speaker 5: think it's a thirty thousand seas stadium, so we're not
- 21:44Speaker 5: talking to massive, but the people show up for it.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Whereas the Houston Dynamo if they're not playing well, they're
- 21:53Speaker 5: not drawing crowds. I don't think they're even drawing crowds
- 21:57Speaker 5: approaching ten to fifteen thousand. So intuitively, that tells me.
- 22:03Speaker 5: That tells me within the United States, if you if
- 22:07Speaker 5: you want eyeballs, it's it's got to be a winning product.
- 22:12Speaker 5: So now we're talking international funny we bring all this up.
- 22:16Speaker 5: Today was announced USA Sports, which already is broadcasting Premier
- 22:21Speaker 5: League kind of under the NBC Sports banner, but they
- 22:25Speaker 5: are separate companies, but some there's some merger talks along anyway.
- 22:29Speaker 5: They just signed a deal to broadcast the Bundesligue as well.
- 22:33Speaker 5: So now you're gonna have top flight English football and
- 22:36Speaker 5: you're gonna have top flight German football broadcast. I don't
- 22:40Speaker 5: think they're doing that just to fill airtime. They know
- 22:44Speaker 5: they know there are eyeballs who want to watch. That's
- 22:49Speaker 5: the more, the more compelling product that you can put
- 22:53Speaker 5: on TV, the more eyeballs it will draw.
- 22:55Speaker 3: How many players?
- 22:56Speaker 4: And I'm and again this is me being the casual fan.
- 22:59Speaker 4: How many players on the United States team this year
- 23:03Speaker 4: play in.
- 23:04Speaker 3: One of those leads?
- 23:05Speaker 5: I want to say four?
- 23:07Speaker 3: And so where do the rest of them play? Are?
- 23:12Speaker 5: Some are are in playing or playing in MLS, Some
- 23:16Speaker 5: are playing in some of the lower divisions across international soccer.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I mean that that's kind of it's it's not just
- 23:24Speaker 5: about playing in top flight. I mean, if if nothing else,
- 23:29Speaker 5: Cape Verde is the perfect example that you don't have
- 23:32Speaker 5: all your players don't have to come from Premier League
- 23:35Speaker 5: or League absolute league. But what we need is more
- 23:42Speaker 5: of that experience coming home and trickling down.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Throughout the systems.
- 23:47Speaker 4: And and that's where I'm asking that question of like,
- 23:50Speaker 4: where are they playing, because if the youth are not
- 23:54Speaker 4: seeing them to be able to relate to them on TV,
- 23:58Speaker 4: if there's if we're only watching Premier League or now
- 24:04Speaker 4: and none of those guys were like because the infancy
- 24:07Speaker 4: of the growth of the NBA came from Magic and
- 24:10Speaker 4: Bird and Michael because and those are guys that we
- 24:13Speaker 4: knew and could see and could and what I guess
- 24:16Speaker 4: what American.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Are I guess what I would say to that is,
- 24:21Speaker 5: hopefully we see what has transpired in the international basketball
- 24:26Speaker 5: because again, now, because what Drew eyeballs to grow international basketball,
- 24:34Speaker 5: it was most likely.
- 24:35Speaker 3: It was Michael that dream team, hell the dream team.
- 24:38Speaker 5: So we're talking ninety two when you talk about Michael
- 24:40Speaker 5: Jordan and all those stars, and now that that creates
- 24:43Speaker 5: the the desire to to watch this on a more
- 24:47Speaker 5: regular basis, and all of a sudden, that starts to
- 24:49Speaker 5: permeate through those countries, you know, and I know they
- 24:52Speaker 5: had long had their own leagues and systems, but obviously
- 25:00Speaker 5: something in the water changed. Because again, if coach k
- 25:04Speaker 5: has to come in and save US men's basketball from
- 25:08Speaker 5: getting beat by the international countries. It's because they have
- 25:12Speaker 5: now adopted that sport and are finding way finding ways
- 25:18Speaker 5: to become the better players, and that's we kind of
- 25:21Speaker 5: need the university, or not the inverse, We need that
- 25:23Speaker 5: in the United States. By watching more of the international product.
- 25:28Speaker 3: We started talking at a little bit about basketball. I
- 25:30Speaker 3: want to get I was trying to tee you up
- 25:32Speaker 3: to it.
- 25:32Speaker 5: I was really trying to tee you up to it
- 25:35Speaker 5: like this match today. But I appreciate it. I appreciate
- 25:37Speaker 5: you bringing this up because this is something I did
- 25:39Speaker 5: want to discuss absolutely during these three days, because again,
- 25:42Speaker 5: I really do feel like it is a two sided coin.
- 25:45Speaker 5: There was success, but yes there was failure from the
- 25:48Speaker 5: US men's side.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Back in just a second to talk a little bit

- 30:36Speaker 12: Okay, yeah, I always I mean, hey, the song slaps,
- 30:42Speaker 12: but I always love this song because the music video
- 30:45Speaker 12: is him performing and it uses footage from the nineteen.
- 30:53Speaker 5: Fifties Titanic movie and so basically because the band's so loud,
- 30:58Speaker 5: that's what causes the ship to a crack and sink,
- 31:02Speaker 5: which I don't mean a hijack. This came up on
- 31:08Speaker 5: my ig feed. Uh, it is this guy and is
- 31:11Speaker 5: like ruining the movie Titanic for my wife. And so
- 31:15Speaker 5: it's him sitting with his wife and he has to
- 31:19Speaker 5: he pauses it at critical parts to talk about the
- 31:22Speaker 5: actual history involved with you know why it is. It's
- 31:25Speaker 5: actually been super entertaining. I'm I've known, I know a
- 31:31Speaker 5: lot of Titanic history, but he is bringing up stuff
- 31:34Speaker 5: like from the trial, you know, and the inquiries and
- 31:37Speaker 5: everything like that, and really diving deep into two stuff.
- 31:41Speaker 5: It's just if anyone, if you're interested in that kind
- 31:45Speaker 5: of nerdy stuff, just I know it's on ig Just
- 31:49Speaker 5: look for Ruining Titanic for my wife.

- 31:58Speaker 4: getting ready to come on tonight and an exciting.
- 32:02Speaker 5: Uh, say, how do you know it's the slow time
- 32:05Speaker 5: of sports calendar.
- 32:07Speaker 3: We're exactly we are here and the SBS are on.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Uh, they're talking like an exciting match from England and Ardentina.
- 32:16Speaker 4: And we've been talking about that so much today, but
- 32:18Speaker 4: it was just because Yeah, it just dominated everything. If
- 32:21Speaker 4: we're getting ready to come on the air today, I
- 32:23Speaker 4: have a question and this goes back to for us,
- 32:27Speaker 4: just the money of sports. So the Knicks just won
- 32:34Speaker 4: the NBA title and Jalen Brunson took less than the
- 32:38Speaker 4: max that he could get Victor Winbin Yama just had
- 32:44Speaker 4: the opportunity to do his rookie extension, where if he
- 32:48Speaker 4: had taken the Supermax it would have been three hundred
- 32:50Speaker 4: million dollars. He took just the the difference. And I
- 32:55Speaker 4: know I'm talking about so much money no matter what,
- 32:57Speaker 4: but the difference between the max and the supermax.
- 32:59Speaker 3: The super Max was three hundred million.
- 33:01Speaker 4: The max that he took was two hundred and fifty
- 33:03Speaker 4: two million. He left that on the table so that
- 33:06Speaker 4: the San Antonio Spurs could continue to build and keep
- 33:10Speaker 4: the roster as some of these other players that they
- 33:12Speaker 4: had that helped him on that title or that title
- 33:15Speaker 4: contention run stay with the franchise.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Right now, I.
- 33:19Speaker 4: Get that that is also a part of San Antonio
- 33:24Speaker 4: culture because Tim Duncan did the same thing. And how
- 33:27Speaker 4: that goes My question though, is, as you and I
- 33:31Speaker 4: have talked about salar caps and the second apron in
- 33:35Speaker 4: the NBA, should that be the player's responsibility to because again,
- 33:42Speaker 4: in order to get a Supermax, you have to be
- 33:46Speaker 4: on one like an All NBA team, so one of
- 33:49Speaker 4: the best fifteen players in the league, or get one
- 33:52Speaker 4: of the awards Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of
- 33:54Speaker 4: the Year, MVP, whatever the So in order to do that,
- 33:58Speaker 4: you have to be a exceptional right in order to
- 34:02Speaker 4: be eligible for for that for the super Max. And
- 34:07Speaker 4: so if you have done that, for like, been able
- 34:10Speaker 4: to do that, why is it why should it be
- 34:14Speaker 4: incumbent upon you to not take all the money that
- 34:18Speaker 4: you have earned based on your play in order to
- 34:21Speaker 4: be able to keep the team around you that helps
- 34:23Speaker 4: you also win.
- 34:26Speaker 5: I honestly believe it comes down to the fact of
- 34:29Speaker 5: what is more important to you as an individual, is
- 34:33Speaker 5: it making the additional And I know this is going
- 34:37Speaker 5: to sound stupid, making the additional, in this case fifty
- 34:40Speaker 5: million dollars or having the having a greater ability to
- 34:46Speaker 5: potentially win not just a championship, but potentially multiple championships.
- 34:54Speaker 5: And as a play, as a play, if you're if
- 34:58Speaker 5: you're a responsible player, and I know you brought up
- 35:00Speaker 5: it's Spurs culture, but I do think I do think
- 35:02Speaker 5: you're gonna you are going to start seeing this with
- 35:04Speaker 5: certain players around the league who understand in this current
- 35:11Speaker 5: CBA environment with the apron and the second Apron, and
- 35:14Speaker 5: especially as punitive as the second apron is, if we're
- 35:18Speaker 5: going to be able to be a team that will
- 35:21Speaker 5: be able to compete, I am probably going to have
- 35:24Speaker 5: to give up something, And hopefully that also translates to
- 35:31Speaker 5: fellow players on my team who may also be eligible
- 35:34Speaker 5: for higher money, maybe not necessarily Supermax, but more money,
- 35:38Speaker 5: be willing to part with some of that with the
- 35:40Speaker 5: understanding we're gonna need the depth if we are going
- 35:44Speaker 5: to hopefully be able to compete for championships. The agents
- 35:51Speaker 5: probably hate this, but there's also the transitive value of
- 35:57Speaker 5: if you are a champion versus are are you just
- 36:01Speaker 5: a supermax contract? And I would kind of point to
- 36:07Speaker 5: Paul George because Paul George is a super max contract,
- 36:12Speaker 5: But Paul George is probably gonna end his career with
- 36:15Speaker 5: zero champions.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Like because maybe Boston squeaks through.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Maybe maybe it gets him one. Yeah, but I think
- 36:26Speaker 5: that's ultimately what it's what it's going to come down to.
- 36:29Speaker 5: And you know, I look at someone like a James Harden,
- 36:31Speaker 5: He's probably now under the realization that I'm just gonna
- 36:36Speaker 5: be a contract guy because I'm never I'm probably never
- 36:39Speaker 5: going to just fall into a team that is going
- 36:43Speaker 5: to compete or win a championship. If especially if my
- 36:46Speaker 5: contract's on the books.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Well, and that's where and that's where I'm saying, like,
- 36:50Speaker 4: why is it incumbent upon the player? Well, I'm not
- 36:53Speaker 4: to make that decision because again as a player, and
- 36:56Speaker 4: I know I'm I'm fighting hard on the player side
- 36:59Speaker 4: right now, which I probably wouldn't.
- 37:02Speaker 3: I have to be one of the top fifteen player.
- 37:06Speaker 4: You have to make All NBA first, second or third team,
- 37:09Speaker 4: or be Rookie of the Year, or be Defensive Player
- 37:12Speaker 4: of the Year, or be sixth Man of the Year
- 37:14Speaker 4: will qualify you for like be one of either the
- 37:17Speaker 4: top fifteen players in the league or one of the
- 37:21Speaker 4: best at a single situation in the entire league in
- 37:25Speaker 4: order to check the box to be able to get that,
- 37:29Speaker 4: and I do all of that and now, and if
- 37:32Speaker 4: I want to keep all the players that are around
- 37:34Speaker 4: me that also make us a good team, I have
- 37:37Speaker 4: to be the one to be like, you know what
- 37:39Speaker 4: I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Leave up much.
- 37:42Speaker 5: I mean, I think it's is the owner doing that? Well, no, again,
- 37:47Speaker 5: but that's that's part of that's part of the players associations.
- 37:55Speaker 3: They are going to hammer this on because.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Let's contrast the two sports where we're at opposite ends
- 38:03Speaker 5: of the spectrum, where you have the NFL fully salary cap,
- 38:06Speaker 5: so forth and so on, in Major League Baseball, which
- 38:09Speaker 5: there is no salary cap and you're probably about to
- 38:11Speaker 5: have another lockout because of this issue. In the NFL
- 38:17Speaker 5: you have quarterback. Again, quarterbacks the most value position in
- 38:21Speaker 5: the league, if not in professional sports, especially in the
- 38:25Speaker 5: United States. They're gonna draw the most money. But they
- 38:28Speaker 5: have to they understand, or I would say the responsible
- 38:32Speaker 5: quarterbacks understand, while I want to get paid, I also
- 38:37Speaker 5: need to provide flexibility for my team to have the
- 38:41Speaker 5: money to put five guys in front of me who
- 38:44Speaker 5: are going to protect me, because otherwise I ain't gonna
- 38:48Speaker 5: make this money. Whereas and then conversely, in Major League Baseball,
- 38:54Speaker 5: it is just simply pay me as much as possible,
- 38:57Speaker 5: and if you can't, I'm gonna move to the team
- 38:59Speaker 5: that can. Right The NBA kind of sits in this
- 39:04Speaker 5: this area between the two. They it does have a
- 39:08Speaker 5: it has a salary cap in f Ish And that's
- 39:14Speaker 5: why I say it really comes down to the player
- 39:17Speaker 5: or players who just say is it more important to
- 39:20Speaker 5: be a champion or is it more important to just
- 39:23Speaker 5: make as much money as possible? And I think a
- 39:25Speaker 5: lot of it just you kind of look through the
- 39:27Speaker 5: history books and it's like Charles Barkley, completely beloved, dominant
- 39:34Speaker 5: player through the eighties and nineties, one of the best
- 39:37Speaker 5: defensive players, one of the best rebounders in the world.
- 39:39Speaker 5: But what is the one thing on his you know,
- 39:42Speaker 5: what's the one thing that will always be on will
- 39:46Speaker 5: always be on his bio and his epitaph and his eulogy,
- 39:51Speaker 5: you know, or what not eulogy. But what's the thing
- 39:55Speaker 5: that goes used to go in the newspapers obituary he
- 39:59Speaker 5: wasn't a champion.
- 40:00Speaker 4: And no, and I get that, and I think and
- 40:02Speaker 4: I would hope that because I've heard people mentioning this
- 40:05Speaker 4: of what may come up in the next round of
- 40:07Speaker 4: of CBA for for the NBA is the these either
- 40:13Speaker 4: the max or the or the Supermax doesn't count towards
- 40:17Speaker 4: the apron.
- 40:18Speaker 3: So what the contract would be if they.
- 40:20Speaker 4: Didn't have that trigger for the Supermax that counts towards
- 40:25Speaker 4: the salary. The salary count but that like that Supermax
- 40:31Speaker 4: does it Because again, if the players earned that by
- 40:34Speaker 4: making either one of those boxes to check off, then
- 40:38Speaker 4: that should also then penalize him if he wants to
- 40:41Speaker 4: be able to like it's like, why do you want
- 40:43Speaker 4: to be good?
- 40:45Speaker 3: Like it's it's people.
- 40:46Speaker 5: I know exactly I mean. And again, I don't think
- 40:49Speaker 5: we will ever take the sides of ownership yet, but
- 40:55Speaker 5: you know, these these are the these are the rules
- 40:59Speaker 5: that both IDEs agree to and you and you and
- 41:03Speaker 5: at least until the next contract comes up, this is
- 41:05Speaker 5: how you have to You have to find the inefficiencies
- 41:09Speaker 5: and the loopholes and the ways to work the system,
- 41:11Speaker 5: and you know, specific to Victor Wimbinyana, this may also
- 41:16Speaker 5: be a cultural thing, the fact that he is he
- 41:20Speaker 5: is from France, and he he may come from a
- 41:24Speaker 5: mindset that the team is more important than the individual
- 41:28Speaker 5: and that might be part of his altruism and in
- 41:30Speaker 5: this decision, Jalen Brunson probably I would think Jalen Brunson
- 41:37Speaker 5: largely did this because a he understood the value of
- 41:43Speaker 5: what it was going to take to win a win
- 41:44Speaker 5: a championship and knew that that the Knicks as constructed
- 41:49Speaker 5: when he got there wasn't going to be enough.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Correct.
- 41:54Speaker 5: But I also think that at some point he's gonna
- 41:58Speaker 5: I'm not saying he's gonna to you know, turn heel,
- 42:01Speaker 5: but he's gonna.
- 42:01Speaker 3: He's gonna say his next contract.
- 42:03Speaker 5: He's like, no, yeah, paying my money. I got you
- 42:06Speaker 5: the championship, pay me my money, and just kind of
- 42:09Speaker 5: as a side note, I am gonna go ahead and
- 42:12Speaker 5: say it. You can feel free to disagree, and maybe
- 42:15Speaker 5: history changes its perspective. But Jalen Brunson has to be
- 42:18Speaker 5: the greatest free agent signing in the history of sport.
- 42:22Speaker 3: I don't know if there's one that tops it.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Because when you look at the fact you got him
- 42:27Speaker 5: at extraordinarily extraordinarily value, I mean for next to nothing.
- 42:33Speaker 5: In fact, this is something I wanted to do over
- 42:35Speaker 5: these three days of while we have time, go back
- 42:39Speaker 5: to the twenty eighteen NBA Draft, look at both rounds
- 42:43Speaker 5: and redraft, because when you look at the top fifteen
- 42:47Speaker 5: and then compare it to some of the guys who
- 42:49Speaker 5: are in the second round, you're like, how did you
- 42:52Speaker 5: what made you pick this this guy versus these guys
- 42:56Speaker 5: down here, Because these guys down here have actually had
- 42:59Speaker 5: so much more success this.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Year's NBA draft.
- 43:01Speaker 4: Maybe one of may go down as one of the best,
- 43:06Speaker 4: just because based on the talent that we're seeing right now.
- 43:08Speaker 4: But what you just made me think of, like how
- 43:10Speaker 4: like how are NBA scouts and like because they met
- 43:16Speaker 4: like they missed so much in the NBA, more than
- 43:19Speaker 4: the NFL, more than Major league based like NBA dre
- 43:22Speaker 4: like they get it wrong.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Often very much.
- 43:26Speaker 4: So on there, We're gonna take a break, come back
- 43:28Speaker 4: in just a second, wrap up today and look forward
- 43:30Speaker 4: to the rest of the week with Jason and Jarrett
- 43:33Speaker 4: in for Chip Chip Out Sports Dog Sports three eleven
- 43:36Speaker 4: fifty am the zone, ninety seven of them.
- 43:38Speaker 13: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 43:40Speaker 13: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 43:43Speaker 13: I found Schorlty Roofing and pois.
- 43:44Speaker 3: I'm glad I did.
- 43:45Speaker 13: The folks, said Shorlty guided me every step of the way.
- 43:48Speaker 13: They showed me my options. They told me what my
- 43:51Speaker 13: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 43:53Speaker 13: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 43:57Speaker 13: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 43:59Speaker 13: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 44:01Speaker 13: roof in one day, the whole.
- 44:09Speaker 14: I'm Jed Nelson with your Texas Rangers report. The All
- 44:12Speaker 14: Star closer Jacob Blatz appear in the All Star Game

- 44:17Speaker 14: details are coming up next.
- 44:22Speaker 15: Texas isn't just a place. It's a feeling a kind
- 44:26Speaker 15: way from a neighbor, sharing a plate of barbecue or
- 44:30Speaker 15: celebrating a big win on the football field. It's the
- 44:34Speaker 15: way we treat each other on and off the road.
- 44:38Speaker 15: So every time you drive, drive like a Texan, kind, courteous.
- 44:43Speaker 15: I'm Safe. Brought to you by the Texas Department of Transportation.
- 44:50Speaker 14: The lone Texas Rangers All Star Jacob Blatz up here
- 44:53Speaker 14: late in the game for the American League as he
- 44:55Speaker 14: faced Luisa Rayez with a runner on first and two
- 44:57Speaker 14: outs in the bottom of the seventh. Luckily for Lats,
- 45:00Speaker 14: he had three runs for support as the al held
- 45:03Speaker 14: that three to nothing lead from most of the game
- 45:05Speaker 14: until in Miguel Vargas homer in the eighth. Then Lats
- 45:08Speaker 14: used a fastball to take care of Louis Riya's with
- 45:10Speaker 14: a strikeout on six pitches. Arias was the player with
- 45:13Speaker 14: the lowest drinkeout percentage in the MLB. The American League
- 45:17Speaker 14: took the All Star Game and shut out fashion by
- 45:19Speaker 14: a final score of four to nothing. The Rangers will
- 45:21Speaker 14: have two more days off before facing the Atlanta Braves
- 45:24Speaker 14: on Friday. With Lats only using six pitches last night,
- 45:27Speaker 14: he should be available immediately. First pitch Whtcheen the Rangers

- 47:16Speaker 5: it In New?
- 47:16Speaker 3: York it's typically IN.
- 47:18Speaker 4: La, Yeah i'm sure it's gonna be In la, again
- 47:23Speaker 4: but who knows where it's going to be this year
- 47:26Speaker 4: looks like it's IN la because it's still bright. Out
- 47:30Speaker 4: EVERYBODY'S i mean this. Summertime But New. York, okay well
- 47:34Speaker 4: then there you, go.
- 47:35Speaker 5: Because it usually used to be used to be in L. A,
- 47:37Speaker 5: yeah if It's New. YORK i mean some of the

- 48:05Speaker 3: Young yeah what.
- 48:07Speaker 4: Yeah Out and for THE sbs right, now LOOKING i
- 48:12Speaker 4: like you, said this is just.
- 48:13Speaker 3: That time of.
- 48:15Speaker 5: YEAR i mean it's a it's a whole reason they.
- 48:17Speaker 5: Did it's because it's like it. Was it's a dead.
- 48:19Speaker 5: TIME i, mean you, know without The World cup going,
- 48:21Speaker 5: on it's a dead. Time so why not The Sports Award.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Show imagine what it would be like right now The World?
- 48:30Speaker 3: Cup oh, god we would be like may maybe talking
- 48:33Speaker 3: that first, hour maybe, talking maybe talking some some, baseball probably.
- 48:40Speaker 5: NOT i THINK i think we probably would have dedicated
- 48:43Speaker 5: to two full segments to the Lebron, watch.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Which yes and, no we probably say we got.
- 48:49Speaker 5: We gotta save, that we got two more.
- 48:50Speaker 4: Days but it's, funny so last year this time because
- 48:55Speaker 4: you you post, like was it last year this time
- 48:58Speaker 4: was indoor season?
- 48:59Speaker 8: Two?
- 49:00Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes BECAUSE i JUST i just had the
- 49:04Speaker 5: something came up on a timeline or on my timeline
- 49:07Speaker 5: about we are one year removed from from television.
- 49:11Speaker 3: Perfection, yeah that's what made me think of.
- 49:13Speaker 4: It and, yes that's also reminded me that we did
- 49:16Speaker 4: a full breakdown all.
- 49:18Speaker 5: Breakdown seasons went into uh.
- 49:22Speaker 4: That lets you know what what, Again jared AND i
- 49:25Speaker 4: and we Appreciate chip for all of these years of
- 49:28Speaker 4: allowing us to come in and play, radio and we
- 49:32Speaker 4: take it very seriously and we do we do prep for,
- 49:35Speaker 4: it and we try to make this as entertaining for
- 49:37Speaker 4: everybody as we. Can we also need y'all to know
- 49:40Speaker 4: Why chip has gone right now and the challenges of
- 49:43Speaker 4: being on his show for and talking about sports during
- 49:47Speaker 4: the month Of, july because that's Why chip isn't here.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Exactly and so, yes last year we.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Did, hey and it's again you said it perfectly or
- 49:55Speaker 4: whatever that post said that and or is as close
- 49:59Speaker 4: to television profess as you can.
- 50:01Speaker 5: Get, it hands down and.
- 50:03Speaker 4: Beautifully, yeah and we were able to break that down
- 50:07Speaker 4: and go over what that.
- 50:10Speaker 6: Was.
- 50:10Speaker 3: LIKE i can't believe it has already been a.
- 50:12Speaker 5: Year so while we're kind of on this subject of
- 50:16Speaker 5: things that popped up on the, timeline SO i guess
- 50:19Speaker 5: Today Warner brothers dropped the teaser For The batman.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Two, OKAY i did not see that, yet and.
- 50:29Speaker 5: It's it's maybe fifteen seconds and it Is it's just
- 50:34Speaker 5: it's you See Robert patterson in the The batman, costume
- 50:41Speaker 5: backlit red fire score. Hits he's, turning it's obviously, raining
- 50:47Speaker 5: and then it just cuts to the bat with The
- 50:51Speaker 5: roman numeral two above. It and then this is what
- 50:54Speaker 5: just like was the Gut Punch february, eighteenth twenty twenty. Eight,
- 51:01Speaker 5: yeah we got a year and a.
- 51:04Speaker 3: Half and so this is not in the New James Gunn.
- 51:11Speaker 5: No, no, no this, verse, WELL i say that there
- 51:19Speaker 5: apparently AND i DON'T i don't know, Again Internet's internet's
- 51:23Speaker 5: just gonna fool you WITH. Ai but supposedly there is
- 51:27Speaker 5: a screenshot With Pattinson's batman sitting at a diner table
- 51:35Speaker 5: With David i'm blinking on his last name who is
- 51:40Speaker 5: Playing superman in the new The GUN dc, Universe and
- 51:45Speaker 5: so there is some, speculations thank, You there is some
- 51:51Speaker 5: speculation whether this is a way to integrate Mat Reeves
- 51:57Speaker 5: batman into THE dcu Because.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Supergirl didn't quite do.
- 52:03Speaker 17: It it didn't quite do, it and there's there's been some
- 52:06Speaker 17: discussions as far as you, know Is Warner, brothers especially
- 52:11Speaker 17: the New Warner, brothers if this merger does go through with,
- 52:15Speaker 17: paramount you, know how much how much more they they
- 52:19Speaker 17: going to allow for THE dc properties to to kind
- 52:22Speaker 17: of flounder at the box.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Office and that's WHY i mentioned mentioned that very like.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Whether do you Like Warner brothers can't figure out what
- 52:38Speaker 4: they want to?
- 52:38Speaker 5: Do Warner brothers is their own worst enemy because this
- 52:41Speaker 5: is what they've been, doing this is what they've been
- 52:43Speaker 5: doing since, REALLY i, mean you can go back To
- 52:47Speaker 5: Christopher reeves run As superman Because superman one and, two
- 52:52Speaker 5: both done By Richard, donner are great. Movies and then
- 52:56Speaker 5: what happens With superman. Three let's bring In Richard pryor
- 53:01Speaker 5: and we're not even gonna talk about the train wreck
- 53:04Speaker 5: that Is superman for the question for, peace and then
- 53:09Speaker 5: what happens you you go silent Until Tim burton does
- 53:14Speaker 5: nineteen eighty Nine, batman huge. Success what does that?
- 53:17Speaker 4: Do?
- 53:18Speaker 5: Well that gets You Batman. Returns it also gets you
- 53:20Speaker 5: the FLASH tv. Series Batman returns gets a little on
- 53:24Speaker 5: the dark. Side but you Hired Tim, burton what did
- 53:26Speaker 5: you think was gonna?
- 53:27Speaker 3: Happen?
- 53:27Speaker 5: Exactly so then you decide to Go Joe schumacher because
- 53:30Speaker 5: again It's Warner brothers, saying, well we don't like, this
- 53:33Speaker 5: so we're gonna move in this.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Direction we want to make money off of, this not make.
- 53:37Speaker 5: Movies, yes and so you do Two Shchuemacher. Batman's then
- 53:42Speaker 5: you shelve, that and then you try and Redo superman
- 53:45Speaker 5: And Superman. RETURNS i didn't think it was a bad,
- 53:49Speaker 5: movie but you can obviously tell it.
- 53:51Speaker 3: Was they didn't know what they were.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Doing.
- 53:52Speaker 5: Well they tried to Pull Brian singer from THE X men,
- 53:55Speaker 5: franchise and it it's supposed to continue The christopher reef.
- 54:01Speaker 4: His, story The Christopher reevestar line from like one and,
- 54:04Speaker 4: two so you skip three and.
- 54:06Speaker 5: Four, yeah and and so that's kind of a. Mess
- 54:09Speaker 5: and Then nolan comes in gives you a Great batman,
- 54:12Speaker 5: trilogy and then he finds out while Filming Dark knight
- 54:19Speaker 5: rises That Zack snyder has already been given permission to
- 54:27Speaker 5: Recast batman in his. Universe BUT i Mean nolan had
- 54:31Speaker 5: already said he was only doing the three movies and
- 54:33Speaker 5: he wrote it as a. Trilogy but, again now you're
- 54:37Speaker 5: you've got a New batman that you're already promoting while
- 54:41Speaker 5: Current Batman Christian bale is still in. Theater it just
- 54:46Speaker 5: has a they.
- 54:46Speaker 4: Can't they can't get out of their own, way because
- 54:49Speaker 4: that was What Christopher nolan put together for those three
- 54:55Speaker 4: was the perfect way to have a shared universe FOR
- 55:00Speaker 4: dc with with what he had, done everything's already established With.
- 55:04Speaker 4: Batman you don't have to redo anything, there and then
- 55:08Speaker 4: you can introduce.
- 55:08Speaker 3: It but, like, yeah they're, like, oh we're done With
- 55:10Speaker 3: we've got, that we can do.
- 55:12Speaker 5: MORE i mean you even brought In nolan as a.
- 55:13Speaker 3: Producer, yes but none of it makes.
- 55:18Speaker 4: Sense and so again that's why, like, okay, one we've
- 55:20Speaker 4: got to wait till twenty eight to see the Next.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Batman but, two it is this a part Of James's?
- 55:26Speaker 3: Gun is?
- 55:27Speaker 2: It?
- 55:27Speaker 4: Not?
- 55:28Speaker 3: Like what are?
- 55:29Speaker 5: So from Everything i've, Read gun does have say over
- 55:35Speaker 5: all of THE dc properties that are produced By Warner.
- 55:38Speaker 5: Brothers but originally the concept Of Reeve's batman and Before
- 55:46Speaker 5: Joker Leafoy, flop those two properties were going to sit outside.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Of The Gun.
- 55:53Speaker 5: Universe but from my from What i'm kind of understanding
- 55:59Speaker 5: is things they.
- 56:00Speaker 4: May try to they may try to try to swing
- 56:02Speaker 4: that in BECAUSE i, mean BECAUSE i mean they've done
- 56:06Speaker 4: that with a few, things Because peacemaker was in The
- 56:08Speaker 4: Snyder Yeah verse and has now been brought into to
- 56:11Speaker 4: The gun. Universe and if there has been anything and
- 56:15Speaker 4: you AND i have talked about this a couple of,
- 56:17Speaker 4: times if there has been anything that AND i don't
- 56:19Speaker 4: give The mouse credit for anything that it does except
- 56:24Speaker 4: for making sure that they just for, overwhelmingly for the most,
- 56:29Speaker 4: part they have let THE mcu continue along the path
- 56:34Speaker 4: that THE mcu has wanted to do and that has given.
- 56:38Speaker 3: Us and there's been.
- 56:40Speaker 4: Some ups and, downs but when you've been doing something
- 56:41Speaker 4: For dan almost twenty years, now there's gonna be some
- 56:44Speaker 4: ups and downs and some ebbs and flows of how
- 56:46Speaker 4: everything comes.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Out but for the most, part.
- 56:48Speaker 4: THE mcu has had a path and they have stuck
- 56:52Speaker 4: to that. Path and just because a movie or sometimes
- 56:56Speaker 4: two or three didn't do. Well they or an entire
- 57:01Speaker 4: face thank. You they didn't just derail it all and
- 57:06Speaker 4: say we're starting.
- 57:07Speaker 5: OVER i mean yes and, no BUT i mean doomsday
- 57:15Speaker 5: is supposed to kind of be a hard reset to
- 57:17Speaker 5: clean up the reason and.
- 57:20Speaker 3: We and we can get on. This oh, yeah we
- 57:22Speaker 3: gotta go holy.
- 57:22Speaker 5: Couch, YEAH i know you.
- 57:24Speaker 3: Point i'm, like what are you talking. About we're getting
- 57:26Speaker 3: into this. Tomorrow, now we got more than. Now we Got,
- 57:28Speaker 3: Thursday chip i Or.
- 57:29Speaker 4: Sports talk With jason And jarrett for the rest of
- 57:31Speaker 4: the week On Sports radio.
