- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. We will get to the Sharon Brown story. Sorry,
- 0:25Speaker 1: we did a lot of pre-recording last week and then
- 0:28Speaker 1: that shit happened. So, you know. Shouldn't have left you
- 0:31Speaker 1: without a dope beat step, too. However, it just works
- 0:33Speaker 1: out that way sometimes.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Uh, Shrung Moore.
- 0:38Speaker 1: You know who I was mixing him up with, Ryan? I.
- 0:41Speaker 3: I.
- 0:41Speaker 2: You said they, uh... Senator, the old, the Senator from Ohio.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yes, I was. Yes, I was. I was visiting him
- 0:48Speaker 1: up with, how does he say it? Sherrod?
- 0:51Speaker 2: I think, yeah, it looks like Sherrod, but I believe
- 0:54Speaker 2: it's Sherrod.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he goes with Sherrod. And I wonder, like.
- 0:57Speaker 2: They don't make a lot of either of those.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Right, and when Sherrod, like, became a thing, was he
- 1:03Speaker 1: sitting around saying y'all are saying it wrong?
- 1:07Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Like, it means he's just insisting. Like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It is Sherrod, not Sherrod. And somebody was like, hey, Rob,
- 1:15Speaker 1: what you say, bro? I ain't even really understand you
- 1:18Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It depends on what parts of Ohio he was in.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I have so many questions because I also feel
- 1:22Speaker 1: like his Sherrod precedes the proliferation of Sherrods in the
- 1:29Speaker 1: larger society.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:32Speaker 1: Or perhaps when he was born, I guess somebody thought
- 1:36Speaker 1: it was He had a different daddy. You know what
- 1:39Speaker 1: I mean? Many things are possible. Anything can happen. Anyway,
- 1:44Speaker 1: it is Sherold Moore. You are correct. And I'm glad
- 1:47Speaker 1: I had funny jokes to make off of that. Otherwise,
- 1:50Speaker 1: we'd have had to re-rack and start it again. However,
- 1:53Speaker 1: we're here.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Here we are.
- 1:54Speaker 1: We're rolling. We'll get to that. And now I have
- 1:57Speaker 1: to put on my solemn face because Patrick Mahomes has
- 2:00Speaker 1: a torn ACL. Best quarterback I believe that I have
- 2:04Speaker 1: ever seen and seen. One that I don't have the
- 2:07Speaker 1: greatest interpretation of his play this year, but I'm just
- 2:09Speaker 1: not inclined to believe that out of nowhere he became terrible.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson is creating a similar conversation, although he don't
- 2:20Speaker 1: play good. I don't understand that either. But either way,
- 2:24Speaker 1: with Mahomes, it's a torn ACL. It happens. Basically, they
- 2:30Speaker 1: weren't going to win that game. They're not going to
- 2:32Speaker 1: go to the playoffs anymore. So almost in a way,
- 2:36Speaker 1: it wouldn't have mattered if they were 13 and 0, right?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Mahomes has his ACL. All of this is moot. It's
- 2:46Speaker 1: a wrap on you guys. You're done. They try to
- 2:49Speaker 1: garden a miss you out there. Like, come on, man.
- 2:51Speaker 1: It just ain't going to be. Now, obviously, you don't
- 2:57Speaker 1: want your quarterback to suffer a major injury. But I
- 3:02Speaker 1: think it's very interesting to consider at times, like, ACL
- 3:05Speaker 1: still sounds like ACL. You know what a torn ACL
- 3:08Speaker 1: is in a lot of ways? A torn ACL is
- 3:12Speaker 1: a lot like the word millionaire. Okay? And here's what
- 3:16Speaker 1: I mean by that. Millionaire at one time meant someone
- 3:24Speaker 1: who had $ 1 million or someone who made $ 1 million
- 3:29Speaker 1: a year, however you want to put it, right? Okay. However,
- 3:34Speaker 1: What a million dollars means is much different now than
- 3:41Speaker 1: what it used to mean. It used to mean you
- 3:44Speaker 1: had a much more of a staggering sum of money
- 3:47Speaker 1: because inflation, da, da, da, everything else, right? So like
- 3:51Speaker 1: people who are millionaires now, the word in technically speaking,
- 3:59Speaker 1: May mean the same thing, what a million dollars is,
- 4:02Speaker 1: but in the actual function of it, not quite. But
- 4:04Speaker 1: when people call somebody a millionaire, they still mean it
- 4:08Speaker 1: like they did back in the days of Daddy Warbucks, right?
- 4:12Speaker 1: They say it the exact same way, they mean it
- 4:15Speaker 1: the same way, but a million dollars ain't the same.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Torn ACL is very similar in the sense that while
- 4:21Speaker 1: it is a lot of injury, just as a million
- 4:24Speaker 1: dollars is still a lot of money. But Robin Leach
- 4:30Speaker 1: ain't showing up on your house for no one million dollars.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And there's a little bit less doom and gloom around
- 4:36Speaker 1: the idea that you have a torn ACL.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I think it is fair to assume that at some
- 4:44Speaker 1: point next season, Patrick Mahomes will be back. I think
- 4:49Speaker 1: it would be silly to try to rush that process, right?
- 4:53Speaker 1: You don't need to get yourself on no Robert Griffin
- 4:56Speaker 1: all in for week one situation. Go ahead and take
- 5:00Speaker 1: your time and take this opportunity to look around the
- 5:05Speaker 1: place and ask yourself, What kind of changes is it
- 5:09Speaker 1: that you need to make? Because maybe y'all need to
- 5:13Speaker 1: make some changes. And I say that because, Ryan, how
- 5:17Speaker 1: many of them went 15 games last year?
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yeah, they went 15-2.
- 5:21Speaker 1: They went 15-2, and they went to the Super Bowl.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And yes, they got their clocks cleaned in the Super Bowl,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and it was a bit of a cliffhanger season, but
- 5:30Speaker 1: They won 15 games last year. And I think most
- 5:34Speaker 1: of us believed that they got better.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:37Speaker 1: After last year, coming into this year, the advanced numbers,
- 5:40Speaker 1: like we talked about this DVOA, they were top 10
- 5:42Speaker 1: DVOA team, but they lived at the margins last year.
- 5:45Speaker 1: And this year at those same margins, it was going
- 5:48Speaker 1: in the opposite direction. And that makes it somewhat difficult
- 5:50Speaker 1: to evaluate how good you are or are not, right?
- 5:55Speaker 1: From where I'm standing. I do think, and you tell
- 5:57Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong here, Chris Jones is a thank
- 6:01Speaker 1: you for the memories. We're going to play a real
- 6:02Speaker 1: long video when you come back and play against us
- 6:05Speaker 1: for another team, one that you will try to seek
- 6:07Speaker 1: out in your own division because you're going to be mad.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Right. Like Chris Jones, Denver Bronco. I don't know anything
- 6:14Speaker 1: about the cap or anything else, but that's the kind
- 6:16Speaker 1: of stuff that happens. Right.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:19Speaker 1: They're going to have decisions to make about him. Travis Kelsey.
- 6:22Speaker 1: This has to be over. Right. I mean, I don't
- 6:25Speaker 1: think he's been bad this year, but I don't know.
- 6:28Speaker 1: How much money you can keep pumping into this? I
- 6:30Speaker 1: don't know how much more he's going to want to do. Like,
- 6:32Speaker 1: you think he want to come back and play with
- 6:33Speaker 1: no guard to miss you?
- 6:34Speaker 2: And he's got, let's say, other things he can do.
- 6:37Speaker 1: He does. He does. Matter of time before he and
- 6:42Speaker 1: Klay Thompson get a podcast together. Clay Johnson, you see
- 6:48Speaker 1: that where Megan Stallion put that video up of her
- 6:51Speaker 1: picking out his clothes for him and then putting that
- 6:54Speaker 1: thang on him and then he showed up in those clothes.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I'm surprised that he even still comes to the games.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Right like again again someone with better options.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yo he is in and i look good good for
- 7:08Speaker 1: all the people involved i want to be very clear.
- 7:10Speaker 2: About everyone involved seems very happy.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah but clay thompson in particular look like that kind
- 7:15Speaker 1: of like i'm in college love right right like it
- 7:18Speaker 1: hits you for the first time and college love can
- 7:21Speaker 1: definitely have you skipping classes I don't know how much
- 7:26Speaker 1: longer she's going to keep on rapping.
- 7:28Speaker 3: All of this.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But I look at him in particular. I don't even know.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And y'all ain't even good. I'm sorry. You want to
- 7:36Speaker 1: talk about going through the motions in practice. Especially with
- 7:41Speaker 1: that dumpster fire that they've got over there.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Who wants to go to work and hang
- 7:47Speaker 2: out with Jason Kidd?
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. When nothing's going the way that it was
- 7:51Speaker 1: supposed to. You see, what's his name?
- 7:53Speaker 5: Lively?
- 7:53Speaker 1: He got hurt.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So, like, all the reasons we thought they might be
- 7:58Speaker 1: able to make, you know, make something out of that situation.
- 8:01Speaker 2: They're going to trade Anthony Davis. Yeah, it's... Yeah. I
- 8:04Speaker 2: don't know. I think... The Mavericks and Klay Thompson have
- 8:09Speaker 2: agreed to a contract buyout for X amount of numbers.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Feels very March-ish.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yes, although it's entirely possible that Klay... None of this
- 8:17Speaker 1: bothers him.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:19Speaker 1: He could be... He might just be showing up to
- 8:21Speaker 1: work like, oh man, we lost again.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Shucks. Shucks.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I'm going to go back to my very famous, very attractive,
- 8:29Speaker 2: very talented wife who's also... A very good cook on
- 8:32Speaker 2: the side.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And my four championships rings that I've already acquired.
- 8:36Speaker 2: And my nearly $ 300 million I made playing basketball.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Why does he still come to work? I don't understand
- 8:44Speaker 1: why he still comes to work. Patrick Mahomes might be
- 8:47Speaker 1: itching to get his ass back, though, but that's neither
- 8:48Speaker 1: here nor there.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Talk about a spouse who might start a podcast.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I'm just saying might. I don't know nothing that's going
- 8:55Speaker 1: on in their life, right? I've seen enough of Klay
- 8:57Speaker 1: Thompson to know what's going on there. Patrick Mahomes, I
- 9:00Speaker 1: have no idea. I'm just throwing up the possibility that
- 9:03Speaker 1: you might be out here putting in work, right?
- 9:07Speaker 2: Aggressively attacking his rehab.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Yeah, here I was talking about he ain't going to
- 9:11Speaker 1: get back for week one. You never know. He might
- 9:14Speaker 1: be like, No, I'll be back for OTAs. Who's to say?
- 9:19Speaker 1: We got somebody we'll talk about a little bit later
- 9:22Speaker 1: that apparently, you know, didn't want to be home that
- 9:25Speaker 1: bad himself. But they got to figure some stuff out, man.
- 9:29Speaker 1: All right. Like the Chiefs are in a situation now.
- 9:32Speaker 1: And it's not just simply that they have to figure
- 9:33Speaker 1: some stuff out. They have the opportunity to do it.
- 9:37Speaker 1: This can happen where you get something a little bad happens.
- 9:40Speaker 1: And now, you know, sometimes it is that somebody will
- 9:44Speaker 1: go in and they'll have one surgery. But since they
- 9:49Speaker 1: in there for the first surgery, like go ahead and
- 9:51Speaker 1: be like, OK, well, since you're going to be laid up,
- 9:53Speaker 1: why don't we go ahead and do this scope on
- 9:55Speaker 1: your ankle, too? Right. That happens sometimes. feel like that
- 10:01Speaker 1: is the situation the Chiefs are in this is a
- 10:03Speaker 1: question that my good buddy Charlie Kravitz brought up while
- 10:06Speaker 1: we were talking both bouncing things I was preparing for
- 10:09Speaker 1: our various shows but Kravitz made a very interesting point
- 10:11Speaker 1: about this Kyle Shanahan over there making it happen with
- 10:16Speaker 1: Matt Corkle Jones. They got a receiver they spend like
- 10:21Speaker 1: $ 30 million a year on. They just got rid of him. Like,
- 10:26Speaker 1: he doesn't even play. Christian McCaffrey's gotten old. George Kittle
- 10:30Speaker 1: is whatever age he is, whatever. But you hand Kyle
- 10:33Speaker 1: Shanahan whatever, Kyle Shanahan will cook up an offense for you.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Andy Reid has... perhaps the best quarterback of all time. And,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I mean, we generally agreed that what they had going
- 10:51Speaker 1: on at receiver was pretty good coming into this year,
- 10:53Speaker 1: especially after they got Rasheed Rice back, right? Like, remember,
- 10:56Speaker 1: we thought that anything that we thought was short with
- 10:59Speaker 1: that offense, well, once he came back off of that suspension,
- 11:02Speaker 1: we're looking at it like, oh, okay, cool. Well, now
- 11:04Speaker 1: they're going to be straight, right? Like, I felt good
- 11:06Speaker 1: about seeing Thornton. Like, they had speed. They had guys
- 11:08Speaker 1: that could at least get down the field and get open.
- 11:11Speaker 1: They're not able to generate much offense. They're not able
- 11:13Speaker 1: to run the ball. This game against the Chargers, they
- 11:15Speaker 1: couldn't run the ball. How much of that is scheme, right?
- 11:22Speaker 1: How much of that is not a question of how
- 11:24Speaker 1: good the coach is. It's a question of how good
- 11:28Speaker 1: of a job the coach is doing, given what they had. Mike,
- 11:33Speaker 1: now's the chance and opportunity for them to do the
- 11:36Speaker 1: math on all of these things. because worst case scenario
- 11:44Speaker 1: just showed up man like like this is the thing
- 11:47Speaker 1: we're at that time of year in the nfl where
- 11:50Speaker 1: now the guys are dropping like flies um and we're
- 11:53Speaker 1: not at the point of the 17th game of the
- 11:55Speaker 1: season but i mean i think some of this does
- 11:57Speaker 1: wind up being cumulative year over year or whatever but
- 11:59Speaker 1: every additional game of football you play is another chance
- 12:02Speaker 1: for a catastrophe right that's just kind of how how
- 12:05Speaker 1: it goes uh michael parsons that sounds like an acl
- 12:09Speaker 1: tear um Ryan, they say in all the things they
- 12:13Speaker 1: say when they know it's an ACL tear, but they
- 12:15Speaker 1: just hope it gets hope with that MRI.
- 12:18Speaker 2: You look at Adam Schefter's Twitter and it's Micah Parsons,
- 12:23Speaker 2: coach commenting on Micah Parsons, does not look good. Sean
- 12:26Speaker 2: McVay on Devontae Adams, does not look good. Puka Nakua
- 12:32Speaker 2: walked out of that game. He ended up coming back. And,
- 12:35Speaker 2: of course, you know, what happened with Micah and– Patrick
- 12:38Speaker 2: Mahomes today.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Devontae Adams. I was watching that play as it happened.
- 12:41Speaker 1: It looked like it's that old sniper.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Right. Like he just went straight down. Like this is,
- 12:49Speaker 1: can your team hold up? Right. That's just, that's just
- 12:53Speaker 1: really what this comes down to now from this point
- 12:54Speaker 1: for the rest. And if you're in a position where
- 12:57Speaker 1: you lose your best player, Now you really check some things, right?
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm going to say this, though. I know the Cowboys,
- 13:04Speaker 1: they play the Vikings. We recorded before that game because
- 13:07Speaker 1: we don't really care that much. But I tell you,
- 13:09Speaker 1: it's a high possibility that Jerry Jones is going to
- 13:11Speaker 1: say the wrong thing. You know, so I like I
- 13:16Speaker 1: will tell you people right now, it's 823 Eastern Time
- 13:20Speaker 1: when we are recording this. So if Jerry happened to
- 13:23Speaker 1: say something like, well, you know. We were a little
- 13:26Speaker 1: bit fearful of something like that.
- 13:27Speaker 2: We will talk about it on Tuesday.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah. That is why we decided to trade him. I
- 13:33Speaker 1: don't know that he's going to say that, but it's
- 13:35Speaker 1: totally in the cards that I can look like a psychic.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And he says the exact same thing that I'm talking
- 13:41Speaker 1: about right now. Jerry, don't be remembering that anybody is
- 13:44Speaker 1: out here listening to him, paying attention to the words
- 13:48Speaker 1: that he says, right? It could happen. Um, But also
- 13:53Speaker 1: there's this possibility, Ryan, let me get you back on
- 13:55Speaker 1: this because I'm curious what you think here. Chiefs been
- 13:57Speaker 1: doing this for 10 years, man. Right. Like even in
- 14:00Speaker 1: the presence of the greatest quarterback we've ever seen, maybe
- 14:06Speaker 1: this is how a run is supposed to end.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, you look, obviously you make the AFC
- 14:12Speaker 2: championship game 17 years or seven years in a row,
- 14:15Speaker 2: excuse me. They've been making the playoffs every year from 2014.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Obviously some of that predates Patrick Mahomes, you know, in
- 14:22Speaker 2: the Alex Smith years, I think Kelsey was probably had
- 14:26Speaker 2: a piece in all of that. Yeah. So like you look,
- 14:29Speaker 2: I mean, the cumulative effect, they've essentially played an extra
- 14:32Speaker 2: season's worth of games over this last half decade. And
- 14:35Speaker 2: that has to have a wear and tear on everyone
- 14:36Speaker 2: on that building.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Like whatever it is, it's going to be the next
- 14:41Speaker 1: stretch of this run. So I think the Brady years
- 14:43Speaker 1: are the Patriots. I feel like we can break down
- 14:45Speaker 1: into three stretches. And the stretch is really, the inflection
- 14:51Speaker 1: point is Randy Moss.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Right? Like, there is, to me.
- 14:54Speaker 2: On both ends. Right, right.
- 14:56Speaker 1: It's before Moss, during Moss, after Moss. And during Moss,
- 15:02Speaker 1: to be fair, is only if, like, what is it,
- 15:04Speaker 1: a three-year stretch? Yeah. Like, 07, 08, 09, and then
- 15:07Speaker 1: 2010 is when they traded him to the Vikings.
- 15:09Speaker 5: But.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Those are the different runs. That middle one has the
- 15:13Speaker 1: 17-1 season or 16-1, however it turned out. Yeah, 18-1.
- 15:18Speaker 1: There we go. That run had the year where Brady
- 15:21Speaker 1: gets hurt, right? But then even in 09, he came back.
- 15:24Speaker 1: He was really good. That team was one thing. It
- 15:28Speaker 1: was built around another paradigm where they did not have
- 15:31Speaker 1: any great receiving threat. You had very good Troy Brown,
- 15:34Speaker 1: for example. You had Deion Branch. And then after, it
- 15:36Speaker 1: is the tight end era. It is Rob Gronkowski, the
- 15:39Speaker 1: stretch with Aaron Hernandez. It's basically when they just started
- 15:41Speaker 1: throwing the ball to the white boys.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you're not even mentioning Wes Walker or
- 15:45Speaker 2: Julian Edelman. Yes, yes.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Chris Hogan, remember him? Chris Hogan, yes.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Danny Amendola.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Gunnar Olszewski.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Right?
- 15:53Speaker 1: That's just when Belichick had the Google alert, right? Just, hey, look,
- 15:59Speaker 1: there must have been a nonprofit, like a placement organization,
- 16:02Speaker 1: like the one that puts poor black kids into prep schools.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Like somebody had to be like, no, if you just
- 16:07Speaker 1: sit down and interview him, you'll see what we're talking
- 16:09Speaker 1: about and we'll make it work. But whatever the run was,
- 16:13Speaker 1: that run is done.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I guess we would call that the it's really kind
- 16:17Speaker 1: of the Travis Kelsey era, as you know, you're correct
- 16:20Speaker 1: in the Alex Smith part. Right. Like Kelsey's kind of
- 16:22Speaker 1: the bridge. But obviously we're talking about Patrick Mahomes. Right.
- 16:25Speaker 1: But if we say it's the end of Kelsey, it's
- 16:27Speaker 1: the end of Mahomes. This is going to be the split. Look,
- 16:31Speaker 1: you got tickets to sell and everything else, but you
- 16:33Speaker 1: don't put him back on the field until like you
- 16:35Speaker 1: put him back at the end of next season. So
- 16:37Speaker 1: he's not starting like when Paul George broke his leg
- 16:41Speaker 1: and they brought him back for eight games at the
- 16:43Speaker 1: end of one year because there was no reason to
- 16:44Speaker 1: come at the top of the next year with him.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Like with all that, whatever was apprehensive or whatever wasn't solid,
- 16:50Speaker 1: like go ahead and work that stuff out now. But
- 16:52Speaker 1: if this is the end of that run, that's what
- 16:55Speaker 1: five Super Bowls. three championships, a 5,000-yard passing season, three MVPs.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Yeah. With maybe the greatest tight end of all time.
- 17:07Speaker 1: With possibly the best tight end in the history of
- 17:11Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs, maybe.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Oh, interesting.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Oh, no, no. Look, and this is no knock to
- 17:18Speaker 1: Travis Kelsey. You could make the argument that Travis Kelsey
- 17:23Speaker 1: is the fifth best tight end in the history of
- 17:26Speaker 1: of the AFC West.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Gronk?
- 17:30Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, no. AFC West. Antonio Gates. In no
- 17:35Speaker 1: particular order.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Antonio Gates.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Antonio Gates.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Shannon Sharp.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Shannon Sharp. Kelly Winslow.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Tony Gonzalez.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Tony Gonzalez. Dave Casper is also in the Hall of Fame,
- 17:44Speaker 1: for whatever it's worth. I don't have the same frame
- 17:46Speaker 1: of reference on him. That's just to say that is
- 17:49Speaker 1: the division of great tight ends.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 17:51Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Is there.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Antonio Gates... had a hundred something touchdown catches.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, his stats look unreal. And I mean,
- 18:01Speaker 2: and I mean, obviously like people like Shannon was unbelievable.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Winslow was unbelievable. Like those are, or you said it's
- 18:07Speaker 2: a conference of great tight ends.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:09Speaker 1: But this is the thing I'd say about Gates. That's
- 18:11Speaker 1: a bit different relative to all of them is that
- 18:13Speaker 1: Gates was a number like Shannon sharp was a threat
- 18:17Speaker 1: as a tight end. Antonio Gates, I feel like for
- 18:21Speaker 1: the entirety of his run was basically the number one receiver.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I don't recall a Tyreek Hill on the Antonio Gates watch.
- 18:32Speaker 1: He was that guy, right? Let's say 100-something touchdown catch.
- 18:37Speaker 1: We talked about Phillip Rivers. The idea that Phillip Rivers
- 18:40Speaker 1: is going to the Hall of Fame, if he does,
- 18:41Speaker 1: Antonio Gates is a significant reason why that could happen.
- 18:46Speaker 1: But no, this would be an unreal run that they
- 18:50Speaker 1: have had, right? Like, just nuts. It is kind of
- 18:55Speaker 1: whack that it would end with a Patrick Mahomes ACL tear,
- 18:58Speaker 1: but I don't think he's done.
- 19:00Speaker 2: No. Quickly, there are always seven receivers with more touchdowns
- 19:05Speaker 2: than Antonio Gates.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like, I think people miss a.
- 19:10Speaker 2: And one of them we're not allowed to name on
- 19:11Speaker 2: the show. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 1: No, no, no. It's not like... Like, look, just to
- 19:16Speaker 1: be clear on tight ends, to me, there's two lists.
- 19:19Speaker 1: There's the list that has Gronk on it.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Yeah, we haven't said the word Gronk yet.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And then the one for the rest of you.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Like, Travis Kelsey is a better tight end to Rob Gronkowski. No, man. Like,
- 19:34Speaker 1: don't let my buddy Nick get y'all out here lying
- 19:36Speaker 1: to y'all selves. And if it's not Nick that's got
- 19:38Speaker 1: you saying that, stop smoking crack. Ryan, I want you
- 19:47Speaker 1: to jump on here with me because you can... vouch
- 19:50Speaker 1: for the truth in this. I was telling you about this.
- 19:52Speaker 1: So we have recorded all of our episodes for the
- 19:56Speaker 1: week by Wednesday, right? We had some travel situations to
- 19:59Speaker 1: deal with and stuff like that, so we got everything
- 20:01Speaker 1: recorded early. Thank you guys also for checking out the
- 20:04Speaker 1: interview with Alex Stapleton, director of the Diddy Doc, right?
- 20:07Speaker 1: We appreciate y'all on that. So anyway... Gerard Moore. Was
- 20:11Speaker 1: it Wednesday night? Wednesday?
- 20:14Speaker 2: It was Wednesday. Yeah, Wednesday evening.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Wednesday at the 4 o'clock hour. We have time stamps.
- 20:19Speaker 1: It was Wednesday at the 4 o'clock hour that word
- 20:21Speaker 1: got out that he had been fired. And I immediately
- 20:26Speaker 1: started hearing some wild stuff, right? People immediately. And when
- 20:31Speaker 1: I say I was hearing, I'm not saying it's like
- 20:33Speaker 1: I'm some kind of journalist, but it was enough. that
- 20:36Speaker 1: it was like, oh, wow, there's stuff going on here, right?
- 20:40Speaker 1: So I was getting a call from all the networks
- 20:43Speaker 1: all day long to CNN on Thursdays like, yo, can
- 20:45Speaker 1: you come on and talk about this Michigan coach? And
- 20:47Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, man, I don't really got that much
- 20:50Speaker 1: to talk about, but I'm going to be honest with you.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'm hearing that a lot might come down the pipe,
- 20:54Speaker 1: so I'm going to pass on this. And they're like, well,
- 20:57Speaker 1: here's our reporting. I'm like, yeah, I don't think– I'm
- 21:00Speaker 1: going to just not talk about none of this.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 1: It's five days since I said that. And I personally
- 21:08Speaker 1: feel like now it's finally appropriate to talk about this. Like,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'm so glad that there was nothing that was offering
- 21:16Speaker 1: me any pressure to talk about this before because we
- 21:19Speaker 1: needed stuff to happen. And the thing that I didn't
- 21:22Speaker 1: expect to happen was that he was going to be
- 21:25Speaker 1: arraigned in the white jumpsuit in a rubber room.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I mean, he took his arraignments. On Zoom.
- 21:32Speaker 1: On Zoom.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah, like it was 2020.
- 21:37Speaker 1: It's over, right? Like, after this is done, we will
- 21:43Speaker 1: never see his face again. Think about this. He doesn't
- 21:50Speaker 1: turn 40 until February, okay? He got a dream job,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and his entire career is over. before he turned 40
- 22:03Speaker 1: years old, right? Now, Ryan, I feel this is a
- 22:08Speaker 1: time where it's glad, you know, I got you here
- 22:10Speaker 1: with me and that we are of somewhat different cultural backgrounds, right?
- 22:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Because we can just acknowledge that for all parties involved here,
- 22:18Speaker 1: the story is made more salacious by the fact that
- 22:22Speaker 1: he risked it all behind some young white woman that
- 22:24Speaker 1: worked in the office.
- 22:26Speaker 2: His assistant. Yeah. Yes.
- 22:28Speaker 1: This is still, uh, a hot button issue in America, right?
- 22:36Speaker 1: It don't get people killed necessarily, but it still hits people, right?
- 22:43Speaker 1: And that is squarely where we are in this. I
- 22:48Speaker 1: don't know how it's going for the white delegation, but
- 22:51Speaker 1: I can tell you for much of the black delegation,
- 22:54Speaker 1: the fact that this gentleman is lost it all behind
- 22:57Speaker 1: that particular white woman in that particular station in life
- 23:00Speaker 1: is not going over well with the people. I do
- 23:05Speaker 1: not know what he will have to do to get
- 23:08Speaker 1: sympathy from the folks. But as of right now, he's.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Got a long way to go.
- 23:12Speaker 1: He's got a, he's got a, he's got a long,
- 23:13Speaker 1: he's got a really, really, really long way to go
- 23:16Speaker 1: to get the sympathy. I, um, I'm not going to
- 23:21Speaker 1: tell that very good joke that I have in mind
- 23:24Speaker 1: because I just don't need the misinterpretation and the aggregation.
- 23:27Speaker 1: But yes, he has a long way to go to
- 23:29Speaker 1: get back because he lost it all behind this. And
- 23:34Speaker 1: that was before we started hearing that he's that guy.
- 23:41Speaker 1: What guy? That guy, right? The guy that get caught slipping,
- 23:47Speaker 1: living in a college town, sleeping with the woman that
- 23:49Speaker 1: works in the office. Like, that's not a really uncommon story.
- 23:54Speaker 1: It's a bad idea and it's wrong. But there are
- 23:57Speaker 1: also a lot of romances that start with similar sorts
- 24:00Speaker 1: of stories, right? Like, I don't think people are that
- 24:05Speaker 1: terribly offended by the idea that he had a relationship
- 24:09Speaker 1: with somebody in the office. But with the understanding that
- 24:12Speaker 1: if you get caught, You know, you got to deal
- 24:15Speaker 1: with whatever comes.
- 24:17Speaker 2: It's an industry that leads itself to that situation.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yes, it is. Yes, it is. For a number of reasons,
- 24:22Speaker 1: for what it's worth, right? However, when the people find
- 24:27Speaker 1: out that apparently you be hitting them up on the
- 24:29Speaker 1: OnlyFans and you were exchanging messages with the woman off
- 24:33Speaker 1: the OnlyFans during the national championship game, per her telling,
- 24:37Speaker 1: per her telling, just throwing that out there, and.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Clearly this man has a problem. Right? He has a
- 24:47Speaker 1: problem and then he went and bust up in this
- 24:50Speaker 1: woman's house, allegedly, with a knife, allegedly, threatening to do
- 24:55Speaker 1: harm to himself, allegedly. Meaning that there's a great chance
- 25:00Speaker 1: that he's going to jail behind this. Like, not forever jail,
- 25:05Speaker 1: but I don't... It seems totally in the cards that
- 25:09Speaker 1: he could wind up going to jail for this. I've
- 25:11Speaker 1: never seen any I can't name anything like this. I
- 25:16Speaker 1: have nothing comparable that comes to my mind in terms
- 25:21Speaker 1: of what a... Every term seems corny, like fall from grace,
- 25:26Speaker 1: whatever it is. All of these things just seem absurd
- 25:31Speaker 1: to bring up. However, if it makes them feel any better,
- 25:38Speaker 1: you're not going to go down alone because... If any
- 25:43Speaker 1: of you have ever dreamed of being the athletic director
- 25:45Speaker 1: at the University of Michigan, I think you'll have a
- 25:48Speaker 1: chance to put in an application, right? And I believe
- 25:52Speaker 1: that you'll have this chance to put in an application
- 25:54Speaker 1: because apparently a man that they knew might not have
- 25:57Speaker 1: been all the way straight, they fired him for cause
- 26:00Speaker 1: and only the athletic director was there with him. Now,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I'm going to give Ward Manuel the benefit of the
- 26:05Speaker 1: doubt here. What if... He felt like he knew this
- 26:10Speaker 1: person and that he was afraid that things could get
- 26:13Speaker 1: worse if there was a lot of people around. And
- 26:16Speaker 1: he thought that that was the best way to manage
- 26:17Speaker 1: the situation. I'm going to just tell you like this.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I done seen people walked out of the office after
- 26:26Speaker 1: getting fired for under far less combustible circumstances than these. Okay.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I've seen people make the argument that they should have
- 26:35Speaker 1: had mental health professionals there when he got fired. I'm
- 26:38Speaker 1: going to be honest with you. My imagination is not
- 26:40Speaker 1: that good. I never would have thought about that. Right.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Like I just I mean, it makes sense. I'm not
- 26:45Speaker 1: saying I'm not saying I don't hear you. I'm saying
- 26:47Speaker 1: that I personally never would have thought about that. But
- 26:50Speaker 1: some big motherfucker to wrap him up. You know what
- 26:52Speaker 1: I'm saying? If things get a little wild, somebody like,
- 26:54Speaker 1: you know, because Sherrod Moore ain't small. He played offensive line.
- 26:57Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? They got to be somebody
- 26:59Speaker 1: with a strength coach at ain't no way in the world.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I would have done that by myself. No, sir. Could
- 27:05Speaker 1: not have been. Anyway, Ward Manuel chose to do that.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And then that man ran out of there, ran up
- 27:09Speaker 1: in that little white girl's house with a knife. You're
- 27:12Speaker 1: not you're not keeping your job after this. I just
- 27:18Speaker 1: want to know this. Ryan, what was that? The Wall
- 27:22Speaker 1: Street Journal? Were you sending that link with the article?
- 27:24Speaker 2: Yeah, the 24 hours.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yeah. And I just want you to hear with me,
- 27:28Speaker 1: because I don't think I'm going to get this wrong,
- 27:30Speaker 1: but just to make sure I say to get this right,
- 27:32Speaker 1: this is a very important detail. They had done in previous...
- 27:35Speaker 1: This is not the only investigation, by the way, that
- 27:37Speaker 1: they have done of Jerome Moore and his dealings with
- 27:42Speaker 1: women in the office, on campus, or whatever it is.
- 27:45Speaker 3: But....
- 27:47Speaker 1: They had done an investigation about his relationship with this
- 27:49Speaker 1: particular woman. And they had been in a relationship from
- 27:52Speaker 1: 2022 to 2024. And they didn't find any evidence. And
- 27:59Speaker 1: the biggest reason they didn't have evidence is because she
- 28:01Speaker 1: said no and he said no. And I don't know
- 28:04Speaker 1: exactly what powers they have. They can ask people to
- 28:07Speaker 1: turn over phones. I'm sure the company issued phones they
- 28:10Speaker 1: can or whatever. But I don't know exactly what they
- 28:12Speaker 1: could do. But they said their investigation said that there
- 28:15Speaker 1: was nothing to it. And then, out the blue this week,
- 28:21Speaker 1: this woman calls up and decides to confess her sins.
- 28:25Speaker 1: That's what the article in the Wall Street Journal said, right?
- 28:29Speaker 1: Am I expected to believe that she just decided to
- 28:33Speaker 1: do this out of nowhere? I'm not saying that it
- 28:36Speaker 1: changes anything about the outcome, right? Or what there is
- 28:40Speaker 1: to say about more. What I am saying is, I
- 28:44Speaker 1: would like to know why that decision was made. Because
- 28:51Speaker 1: what's that line, Ryan? Just because you paranoid don't mean
- 28:54Speaker 1: they ain't out to get you. Because they got, he
- 29:00Speaker 1: is got.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:03Speaker 1: He is as got as got has ever been. That
- 29:08Speaker 1: just seems to be an incredible turn of events. Like
- 29:10Speaker 1: who knows what it is that happened. In the 911 call,
- 29:14Speaker 1: the woman said that Moore had been stalking her right
- 29:18Speaker 1: that is what what she said in the call um
- 29:23Speaker 1: maybe that if that's the case right maybe that led
- 29:26Speaker 1: to her calling and saying hey do this thing that'll
- 29:30Speaker 1: fire that dude I don't I don't know I don't
- 29:32Speaker 1: understand this but the fact that this just happened out
- 29:34Speaker 1: of nowhere something tells me we're going to find out
- 29:38Speaker 1: a lot did you see they're going to do an
- 29:39Speaker 1: investigation on of the whole... Yeah, everyone's getting.
- 29:42Speaker 2: It's going to be... I think it's going to be
- 29:44Speaker 2: more than just the AD.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I think it'll be more than just the AD, but
- 29:49Speaker 1: how thorough an investigation do you really think that this
- 29:53Speaker 1: is going to be?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean... Let's put it this way. They've been
- 29:58Speaker 2: doing a lot of investigations in that building recently. Yeah.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So this is one thing, though, I think about with Michigan, though.
- 30:02Speaker 1: And I'm curious your thoughts on this. So I've seen
- 30:07Speaker 1: the this is a, like, deeply corrupt program sort of arguments.
- 30:14Speaker 1: And I get that. But, right? I feel like these
- 30:20Speaker 1: things don't have that much to do with one another.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 30:24Speaker 1: So one thing that was interesting with Connor Stallion, the
- 30:27Speaker 1: reason that Moore got suspended behind that is that he
- 30:29Speaker 1: deleted text messages before he turned his phone over, but
- 30:32Speaker 1: then he came off of those text messages and there
- 30:35Speaker 1: was nothing incriminating in them.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:38Speaker 1: They had that weird thing with the dude that was
- 30:40Speaker 1: stealing signs, and I'm sorry, it was wrong, but it's
- 30:43Speaker 1: so funny that I can't find myself getting to that place.
- 30:47Speaker 1: This right here, I don't know how exactly this ties
- 30:51Speaker 1: in with the idea of a corrupt program right like
- 30:54Speaker 1: this is weird things happen in offices like i don't
- 30:58Speaker 1: yes so i guess this is what i don't know
- 31:01Speaker 1: how many offices have a circumstance like this and what
- 31:05Speaker 1: is the likelihood under those circumstances that somebody tells or
- 31:08Speaker 1: that something is actually done somebody in a boss-like capacity
- 31:12Speaker 1: is having a relationship with a subordinate i feel like
- 31:16Speaker 1: it's more likely that people let that slide than it
- 31:20Speaker 1: is that people enforce it. That's not to say that
- 31:21Speaker 1: they shouldn't.
- 31:22Speaker 2: But that's what, yes.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah, so I don't find that to be an example
- 31:27Speaker 1: of a uniquely corrupt culture. within your within the athletic department.
- 31:33Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, I'm not sure that
- 31:35Speaker 1: that's the argument to make here, but that's what it's
- 31:38Speaker 1: going to be.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:40Speaker 1: That's what they're going to have to overcome. And maybe
- 31:43Speaker 1: Michigan is trying to do a truth and reconciliation before
- 31:46Speaker 1: the public. And they're going to go through all this
- 31:48Speaker 1: shit and they're going to tell everybody everything that was wrong.
- 31:53Speaker 1: But I didn't think that they were stupid. Right. Call
- 32:00Speaker 1: me cynical, but that doesn't seem like the smartest thing
- 32:02Speaker 1: to like, these are not people of great honor. Okay.
- 32:05Speaker 1: So I don't know what investigation is going to be.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I don't know what they're actually going to do. You
- 32:09Speaker 1: remember when the dolphins had the bullying situation and they
- 32:11Speaker 1: put together the blue ribbon committee and that committee still
- 32:14Speaker 1: ain't never had no meeting.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Like not one. Like, but they can't just win the
- 32:19Speaker 1: press conference here. Like that's not going to work. I
- 32:21Speaker 1: do think that now that they've said it, they're going
- 32:23Speaker 1: to have to come up with something. But consultants generally
- 32:28Speaker 1: are people you pay to tell you to do what
- 32:30Speaker 1: you already wanted to do. This, no matter who the
- 32:35Speaker 1: investigation is, this is an example of the consulting business.
- 32:38Speaker 1: That's what they are going to have. They're going to
- 32:41Speaker 1: run through this and they're going to come back and
- 32:44Speaker 1: be like, you know what? It's actually not as bad
- 32:45Speaker 1: as we thought. It's crazy, right? Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 1: You know, but we wanted to go back here and
- 32:50Speaker 1: make sure everything was okay. Yeah, yeah. We're going to
- 32:53Speaker 1: be fine.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Like, It's actually funny, Ryan. As we talked about this more,
- 32:59Speaker 1: I had in my head envisioned, because I don't do
- 33:03Speaker 1: it like I did it when I was a youngster
- 33:05Speaker 1: in this business, but I like a little dark humor.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I feel like I have a fairly sophisticated understanding of
- 33:12Speaker 1: the edge and where you can stand and talk on
- 33:15Speaker 1: these things. I will say that this case has tested
- 33:23Speaker 1: at many points. My question of Is this funny? Not
- 33:30Speaker 1: so much the macro. The big, is this funny? Because
- 33:33Speaker 1: that actually is not. But there's little funnies along, little
- 33:38Speaker 1: potential funnies, I think, that I had seen along the way.
- 33:41Speaker 1: And in my edgy brain, I was like, yeah, I'm
- 33:43Speaker 1: going to get in here. Maybe we going. No, I
- 33:45Speaker 1: started feeling less and less funny. The more I thought
- 33:48Speaker 1: about him sitting there in that rubber room.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Right?
- 33:52Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this isn't. This, no, no, no.
- 33:54Speaker 1: This isn't.
- 33:55Speaker 5: No.
- 33:56Speaker 1: No, it's not.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Like, this is.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Can you imagine if this were a story about a
- 34:01Speaker 1: coach that we were more familiar with?
- 34:03Speaker 2: No. This was A1A1 from Wednesday, like, really until that
- 34:11Speaker 2: home story is ACL.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but imagine if this was, and I'm just throwing
- 34:16Speaker 1: a name out, right? Imagine if this was Jimbo Fisher.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Right?
- 34:20Speaker 1: Like, I'm not even talking about Nick Saban, right? I'm
- 34:22Speaker 1: not even talking about, like, Dabo or, like, a super
- 34:25Speaker 1: famous coach or Kirby Smart. Just somebody that, oh, I
- 34:29Speaker 1: remember him, right?
- 34:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Imagine it's Jimbo Fisher that did this.
- 34:36Speaker 3: What?
- 34:38Speaker 1: Like, we don't even know who this guy is, and
- 34:41Speaker 1: he has America captivated.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:44Speaker 5: Right?
- 34:45Speaker 1: Like, actually, who is the coach that you would be
- 34:49Speaker 1: the most shocked?
- 34:52Speaker 2: Kirby's up there. Kirby's up there. Did you see the
- 34:58Speaker 2: Nick Saban quote going around?
- 35:00Speaker 1: I did not. What was it?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Let me pull this up. I want to make sure
- 35:03Speaker 2: I get this right. It's about, you know, Nick Saban's.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Oh, from the book?
- 35:09Speaker 2: From the book.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Oh, I do know that quote. If you can send
- 35:14Speaker 1: the screen cap to me, I will read it word
- 35:17Speaker 1: for word because this story has been denied. And, um,
- 35:22Speaker 1: so what?
- 35:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:24Speaker 2: So what? It's funny.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:25Speaker 1: We, we like it better. And he's basically, he's in
- 35:28Speaker 1: the locker room with the dudes at LSU. And honestly, man,
- 35:31Speaker 1: this is the kind of story that like this, this like,
- 35:34Speaker 1: maybe this is a man that you let raise your son,
- 35:36Speaker 1: you know, help your son become a man. Like he,
- 35:38Speaker 1: he hitting them with some true gang.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And he was talking about dealing with women and, you know,
- 35:43Speaker 1: these young boys in college. And I do remember that
- 35:46Speaker 1: before this excerpt, there's something where he's like, he's, He's
- 35:49Speaker 1: using like the P word in his discussion of like
- 35:52Speaker 1: talking about dealing with women. He's just, you know, he
- 35:56Speaker 1: hitting them with some true game. And he says here
- 35:58Speaker 1: that ultimately you never want to sleep with anybody who
- 36:01Speaker 1: has less to lose than you do. So ultimately, if
- 36:05Speaker 1: I'm ever going to sleep around on Miss Terry, it's
- 36:08Speaker 1: going to be with Hillary fucking Rodham Clinton.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Now that's funny.
- 36:15Speaker 1: That's hilarious. That's, that's, That's because somebody put together an
- 36:19Speaker 1: AI video of Nick Saban telling that to Sherrod... Sherone Moore. Sorry, sorry.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I was about to call him Senator Moore. It's the
- 36:34Speaker 1: holiday season, and it's time to make dreams come true.
- 36:37Speaker 1: To make these holiday favorites, it takes a team of
- 36:40Speaker 1: talented people, from actors to editors to props people to
- 36:43Speaker 1: sound crew and more. And when it comes to building
- 36:45Speaker 1: such a team, whether it's for the entertainment industry or

- 37:34Speaker 2: All right, Bo, let's get to some more stories from
- 37:42Speaker 2: the weekend. Phillip Rivers actually played. They almost beat the Seahawks.
- 37:47Speaker 2: He was 8 for 27, 120 yards, touchdown, and an interception.
- 37:52Speaker 2: But what was your biggest takeaway from seeing the 44-year-old
- 37:56Speaker 2: returning to the NFL?
- 37:56Speaker 1: All right, man. As long as he didn't die. All right?
- 38:01Speaker 1: But I watched a couple drives, and he is a
- 38:04Speaker 1: Larry Holmes all-star, man. Like, he's looking flabby as sick.
- 38:09Speaker 1: So the thing about, I feel like the guy that
- 38:11Speaker 1: comes back at this age is typically either going to be, like,
- 38:16Speaker 1: in your mind. Or like when you do the movie.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Like a Kenny Stabler type that you imagine who's just
- 38:22Speaker 1: been smoking cigarettes and drinking Miller High Life, right? And
- 38:26Speaker 1: then they call him and he's like, all right, you know,
- 38:27Speaker 1: I'll come out here and play a game like smoking
- 38:29Speaker 1: a cigarette on the sideline. Or something like Jack LaLanne type. Right.
- 38:33Speaker 1: That's just like, you know, an incredible shape. It always
- 38:36Speaker 1: ready for it. Dead ass in the middle is Phillip Rivers.
- 38:39Speaker 1: It looked like he ain't never done a push up
- 38:41Speaker 1: in his life. Right. Like I work out for playing
- 38:43Speaker 1: football by playing football. He always had that funny shot
- 38:46Speaker 1: put motion and everything else. But he was always a
- 38:49Speaker 1: highly entertaining watch. Right. He talked cash shit out there
- 38:54Speaker 1: to people, and he got it done, man. You know,
- 38:57Speaker 1: only invariably for the Chargers to blow a late lead,
- 39:01Speaker 1: and all his efforts were for naught. And what do
- 39:04Speaker 1: you know? All he did today was a far less
- 39:07Speaker 1: entertaining version of that right there, because it was not
- 39:12Speaker 1: a fun watch. It wasn't a sad watch. It was
- 39:16Speaker 1: really insulting to Riley Leonard. I think that's the best
- 39:20Speaker 1: way that I could put it. It was just kind
- 39:22Speaker 1: of confusing why he was even out there. That's probably
- 39:26Speaker 1: the best way that I could put it. It was
- 39:28Speaker 1: just confusing. But he had this... ahead at the end,
- 39:31Speaker 1: only for them to give up a field goal and
- 39:34Speaker 1: to lose the game.
- 39:36Speaker 3: It is.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Are we at the point where we ask some questions
- 39:40Speaker 1: about the Seahawks? Cause this game should not have been
- 39:42Speaker 1: this close.
- 39:44Speaker 3: It is.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I cannot i could not take my eyes off of
- 39:48Speaker 2: it i i with all due respect i just disagree
- 39:52Speaker 2: i thought really it was strangely compelling i understand like
- 39:59Speaker 2: if the idea of like secondhand embarrassment like not being
- 40:02Speaker 2: able to watch but it looked like a mix of
- 40:05Speaker 2: like like someone like, you know, like a backyard football game, right?
- 40:10Speaker 2: Telling stories about how they were all 20 years.
- 40:14Speaker 7: I just couldn't get anything out of it. Cause the
- 40:16Speaker 7: balls was taking so long to get there. He was
- 40:18Speaker 7: throwing the lollipops over there, Jack. Like it was just,
- 40:21Speaker 7: and they weren't like snatching them and running them back. Like,
- 40:24Speaker 7: I think that was the thing is like, if he
- 40:26Speaker 7: was going to be bad, I needed to be all
- 40:27Speaker 7: the way bad.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Like he needed to be on some Peter man. He
- 40:31Speaker 1: ain't give us none of that. It was just kind of,
- 40:33Speaker 1: it was nondescript. rip it was he might be back
- 40:37Speaker 1: out there he got that's what i'm saying riley letter
- 40:41Speaker 1: nope don't want to make that joke riley but riley
- 40:43Speaker 1: letter should be very upset if they were to to
- 40:47Speaker 1: to do that um i just i was surprised to
- 40:52Speaker 1: see people my age who were saying how they were
- 40:56Speaker 1: like root I guess I don't view myself the same
- 40:59Speaker 1: way that these other middle-aged people view themselves. Right.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Like, Oh, I did not find it inspirational. I found
- 41:06Speaker 4: it very, very funny. I did not find this inspiring
- 41:08Speaker 4: at all. I was not rooting for him. I thought
- 41:11Speaker 4: this is stupid.
- 41:13Speaker 2: And I'm just, I.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Was, I turned in to Adrian from the Rocky movies.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Like you can't win.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:20Speaker 1: I'm just hoping he doesn't get turned to dust.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Oh man. That's great. All right. Uh, In not-so-great football news,
- 41:27Speaker 2: the Rams beat America's team 41-34 in a shootout we
- 41:30Speaker 2: mentioned earlier. Devontae Adams went down with a hamstring injury.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Puka Dekua left with an injury. Bo, your thoughts watching
- 41:38Speaker 2: this game?
- 41:38Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Dropping like flies. Like, I actually, it was
- 41:41Speaker 1: a game that reminded me why I chose this as
- 41:44Speaker 1: the team to rule for. Even with them not winning.
- 41:46Speaker 1: They go, man. Like, they're down so many dudes already
- 41:50Speaker 1: going into this game, right? Down both safeties. I think
- 41:52Speaker 1: this is the most recent development. And that was just
- 41:55Speaker 1: a at least for the first three quarters. It wasn't
- 41:57Speaker 1: as great at the end. This was an incredible game
- 42:00Speaker 1: to watch. It was highly entertaining. Jared Goff played really,
- 42:04Speaker 1: really well. But, you know, looks like the Lions are
- 42:09Speaker 1: not going to make playoffs this year. And you know what?
- 42:14Speaker 1: Like I said, it's cool. Me and Nick, I'm going
- 42:16Speaker 1: to go to his house during the playoffs and we're
- 42:18Speaker 1: just going to be over there hating. we're just gonna
- 42:21Speaker 1: be hating for a muff that's all we're gonna be
- 42:24Speaker 1: doing right but hey man it's dropping like fly season
- 42:27Speaker 1: like i mean you just look around everywhere you go
- 42:30Speaker 1: man everybody's dropping like flies there's gonna be a lot
- 42:33Speaker 1: of this is just who can hang who can persevere
- 42:37Speaker 1: but that's where we are.
- 42:39Speaker 2: All right uh going to college football now kalen the
- 42:42Speaker 2: boar says he is not leaving alabama he said in
- 42:44Speaker 2: the statement uh We have an incredible opportunity in front
- 42:47Speaker 2: of us, so my sole focus is on Alabama football
- 42:49Speaker 2: and our preparations to play Oklahoma. I have not spoken,
- 42:53Speaker 2: have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any
- 42:57Speaker 2: other job. I'm fully committed to this program and look
- 42:59Speaker 2: forward to continuing as the head coach of the University
- 43:02Speaker 2: of Alabama. Beau, were you surprised?
- 43:04Speaker 1: I thought that that was a very strong, strident, while
- 43:10Speaker 1: simultaneously challenging, Legally non-binding statement.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Sounds like he's negotiating for an extension.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Those reports are coming out about it. I
- 43:21Speaker 1: just want to see how he feels after this game
- 43:24Speaker 1: against Oklahoma.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Same.
- 43:25Speaker 5: Right?
- 43:26Speaker 1: Which could go either way. It's going to be blazing
- 43:29Speaker 1: hot for you if you don't. Now, I will say
- 43:31Speaker 1: this also. Something that I think is interesting about the
- 43:34Speaker 1: playoff that isn't quite discussed. Because I've seen people make
- 43:36Speaker 1: the argument. Because Alabama lost four games last year, I
- 43:39Speaker 1: want to say, and they have lost three games so
- 43:41Speaker 1: far this year. That means in all likelihood they're going
- 43:43Speaker 1: to lose four games this year.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Almost certainly, yes.
- 43:48Speaker 1: One thing this playoff does is add to the number
- 43:51Speaker 1: of good teams assured to end their season with a loss.
- 43:58Speaker 1: And nothing makes your season feel worse than ending it
- 44:03Speaker 1: with a loss.
- 44:04Speaker 5: Right?
- 44:05Speaker 1: That's a thing. And that's kind of what's happening here.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Like if they were just going to the Capital One
- 44:10Speaker 1: Bowl and got to score up against Wisconsin. Well, not
- 44:13Speaker 1: Wisconsin this year, but, you know, somebody like that and
- 44:16Speaker 1: come out of there with a dub. I think this
- 44:18Speaker 1: might have gone over a little different. He better win
- 44:20Speaker 1: this game against Oklahoma, basically, is the thing that I'm
- 44:22Speaker 1: saying right now.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Again, the monster has not been revved back up. But
- 44:27Speaker 1: we looked at that contract, right? It's like 70 something
- 44:29Speaker 1: million dollars to buy him out. It's like three if
- 44:31Speaker 1: he leaves.
- 44:33Speaker 2: So it's something impossible.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Like if he leaves on his own, it's something like
- 44:37Speaker 1: $ 4 million. Like I, and I respect Alabama on that front. Like,
- 44:41Speaker 1: like we ain't going to keep you here except here.
- 44:43Speaker 1: They are apparently negotiating this extension. Cause they know that job. They,
- 44:48Speaker 1: they know they got a crazy job. And if I'm DeBoer,
- 44:52Speaker 1: I guess the problem right now at Michigan is that
- 44:54Speaker 1: they in the midst of chaos, but I would definitely
- 44:56Speaker 1: listen to what they had to say.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Absolutely. All right. And moving to the NBA, uh, semifinals
- 45:03Speaker 2: of the NBA Cup. The Spurs upset the Oklahoma City Thunder.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Wimbyama made his return to action. He had some words
- 45:11Speaker 2: for SGA after the game. Let's take a listen. I'm
- 45:14Speaker 2: just glad to be part of something that's growing to
- 45:18Speaker 2: be so beautiful and so pure and ethical basketball, you know?
- 45:28Speaker 1: Okay. Did you watch this game?
- 45:30Speaker 2: I saw clips. I did not see the game.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Okay, me and my brother watched this game. Victor Wimbanyama
- 45:36Speaker 1: played seven minutes in the first half. His plus minus
- 45:41Speaker 1: was plus 20. It was unreal watching the one-man impact
- 45:49Speaker 1: that he had on this game.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Against the overwhelmingly best team in the NBA.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Overwhelmingly best team in the NBA. He hates them.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Okay. He hates them and he hates Chet.
- 46:00Speaker 1: He hates Chet, number one, right? Like Chet's missing free throws.
- 46:03Speaker 1: He's clapping at the, you know, he hates them. But
- 46:07Speaker 1: that clip right there about ethical basketball, that's him talking
- 46:10Speaker 1: about the Thunder and how the Thunder be cheating, right?
- 46:13Speaker 1: Now the Thunder have a very interesting approach when playing
- 46:15Speaker 1: against him, which is he's seven feet five and they
- 46:17Speaker 1: just try to take his rock every time he dribbles.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 46:20Speaker 1: As soon as he dribbles, Caruso's going for it. I
- 46:23Speaker 1: would not be surprised to find out that the Thunder
- 46:25Speaker 1: practice the peanut punch in practice because they just they're
- 46:28Speaker 1: just going for the ball. They go for the ball
- 46:30Speaker 1: like you do when you're too young to be playing
- 46:33Speaker 1: basketball against the age level of people that's out there.
- 46:35Speaker 1: And that's the only hope you have is to try
- 46:36Speaker 1: to take the ball like that's what they're doing. But
- 46:40Speaker 1: he doesn't like them. And it's so great because with him,
- 46:47Speaker 1: maybe they could challenge the Thunder. The Thunder, I think,
- 46:50Speaker 1: are going to win 70 games this year. There's a
- 46:52Speaker 1: good chance they could break the wins record. There are
- 46:55Speaker 1: teams that could challenge them. Denver, I think, can give
- 46:57Speaker 1: them a challenge. We're going to see what Houston ultimately is.
- 47:00Speaker 1: But this one right here is the rivalry, right? And
- 47:03Speaker 1: what they did, and I'd say this also about Knicks magic,
- 47:05Speaker 1: but it's very important, that NBA Cup felt like something.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Like in watching that game, it felt like a big game.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I don't know if that's tied to the event or
- 47:16Speaker 1: is simply tied to the way that these teams feel
- 47:18Speaker 1: about each other. But these teams feel a way about
- 47:21Speaker 1: each other. And it starts with the fact, I was
- 47:23Speaker 1: talking to my man Jason about this. He made a
- 47:25Speaker 1: great point. He was like, can you imagine how unserious
- 47:29Speaker 1: Victor believes that Chet is?
- 47:31Speaker 2: I can only imagine.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Right? Like, Chet out here on his B-rad. Victor goes
- 47:39Speaker 1: to hang out with the Shaolin monks. And y'all tried
- 47:43Speaker 1: to say he was better than me? Oh, my goodness.
- 47:47Speaker 1: It's going to be like just for a long time
- 47:49Speaker 1: with these teams. I love it.
- 47:57Speaker 2: All right, Bo. Voicemails. A lot of good ones. Here's
- 48:00Speaker 2: our first.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Hey, Bo.
- 48:02Speaker 6: This is Tony from Las Vegas.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Long time listener.
- 48:05Speaker 6: First time caller.
- 48:06Speaker 3: I know what you do.
- 48:06Speaker 6: So I've been listening to you guys long enough to
- 48:10Speaker 6: know the original story of Lawrence Fishburne.
- 48:12Speaker 3: So.
- 48:13Speaker 6: leads me to a question because it kind of reminds
- 48:15Speaker 6: me of your disdain you have for Lane Kiffin. So
- 48:18Speaker 6: the question I have is, who do you like, who
- 48:21Speaker 6: do you dislike more? Lawrence Fishburne, Lane Kiffin, Stringer Bell,
- 48:29Speaker 6: or the New Orleans Saints? Thanks for your time, bro.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Keep doing what you're doing.
- 48:37Speaker 1: You know, the best part about Stringer Bell not being
- 48:39Speaker 1: a real person is I don't have to respect his humanity.
- 48:42Speaker 1: That allows me to lean all the way in. I'm like,
- 48:46Speaker 1: you know what, though? Once you put Lane Kiffin in this,
- 48:48Speaker 1: it's a little bit of a tougher call. My issue
- 48:51Speaker 1: with Lawrence Fishburne, I don't know if he a bad person, necessarily.
- 48:55Speaker 1: I just felt like, for those of you who don't know,
- 48:57Speaker 1: I was working at Press Junket once in the year
- 49:00Speaker 1: of our Lord, 2003, at the, I believe it was
- 49:04Speaker 1: the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. And the way Press Junket works is,
- 49:09Speaker 1: they do it two different ways. Oh, no, it's Anyway,
- 49:13Speaker 1: you put a bunch of reporters in one room or
- 49:15Speaker 1: at one table, like six or seven. It's like for
- 49:18Speaker 1: a movie cast, you rotate the cast around to the
- 49:20Speaker 1: table so it's like a bunch of mini press conferences
- 49:23Speaker 1: and this allows you to you know get more work
- 49:25Speaker 1: done going around the room and so i was there
- 49:28Speaker 1: to do an interview with somebody else And they sat
- 49:31Speaker 1: Lawrence Fishburne down at the table. And so I wasn't
- 49:33Speaker 1: really paying no attention to him. And he tried to
- 49:35Speaker 1: call me out and make me ask him a question.
- 49:37Speaker 1: And I did. And it was a good question, too.
- 49:39Speaker 1: I don't remember what it was. And that jerk was just.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Like, no.
- 49:43Speaker 1: And just tried to play me in front of all
- 49:44Speaker 1: these people. It was white people, too. Like, I just
- 49:46Speaker 1: didn't really believe that that was appropriate behavior coming from him. But,
- 49:50Speaker 1: you know, the world got him back.
- 49:57Speaker 3: Right?
- 49:57Speaker 1: But that was just one day. You know what I mean? Like, that's,
- 50:00Speaker 1: you know, I can't say that I don't approve of
- 50:03Speaker 1: what he stands for. Like, I don't approve of what
- 50:05Speaker 1: Stringer Bell stands for or what Lane... Stringer Bell is
- 50:09Speaker 1: the answer. Stringer... I feel like Lane Kiffin and Stringer
- 50:17Speaker 1: Bell got a lot in common, though.
- 50:22Speaker 2: It's going to be an interesting year. All right, here's
- 50:23Speaker 2: our next one. What's up, Omani?
- 50:25Speaker 3: This is Cordae from the Bay. Uh....
- 50:29Speaker 5: It's a follow-up to the voicemail you played.
- 50:32Speaker 3: No, I'm not adopted.
- 50:34Speaker 5: This was my grandpa's idea. I know you from Houston, Texas.
- 50:38Speaker 5: My grandpa's from Dallas, Texas. I don't know if that
- 50:42Speaker 5: got anything to do with it, but also my grandpa
- 50:44Speaker 5: looks like James Brown except he's 6'2 and a truck driver. Yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 1: You got a perm?
- 50:52Speaker 5: So after we– so it was his idea to all
- 50:55Speaker 5: of a sudden start going– to Yosemite, and we hadn't
- 50:58Speaker 5: went in years. So we decided, oh, let's go when
- 51:02Speaker 5: y'all all are 18. And that's when we missed the bear,
- 51:07Speaker 5: stuff like that. That was the last time my family went,
- 51:10Speaker 5: because my mom was like, I ain't dealing with this
- 51:12Speaker 5: stress again. But my dumb self, my dumb self, went
- 51:18Speaker 5: the next year with some non-black people and woke up
- 51:24Speaker 5: one morning to the sound of bear. Again, but I
- 51:28Speaker 5: was in my tent, and I was with some non-black people,
- 51:33Speaker 5: and they was like, Bear, let's get out. I was like, no, wait.
- 51:37Speaker 5: Waited like two minutes. I was like, no, let's wait again.
- 51:40Speaker 5: I was like, let's just wait. Precautionary. Then we eventually
- 51:45Speaker 5: got out of our tent, and when we got out
- 51:47Speaker 5: of our tent, someone yelled, hey, good thing y'all didn't
- 51:52Speaker 5: get out of y'all's tent, because the bear was right
- 51:54Speaker 5: in front of y'all's tent. And that was the last
- 51:58Speaker 5: time I went to Yosemite.
- 51:59Speaker 2: That's Cordae from the Bay.
- 52:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 52:03Speaker 1: So those of you Cordae from the Bay last week
- 52:05Speaker 1: told us a story about how he was fortunate. He
- 52:07Speaker 1: went to take a walk, shall we say, and while
- 52:10Speaker 1: he was gone, the bear had come and they was
- 52:11Speaker 1: at Yosemite. And I was trying to figure out what
- 52:13Speaker 1: was going on with these black people at Yosemite. And
- 52:15Speaker 1: he gave the answer. And then he just said that
- 52:17Speaker 1: he went with some non-black people to Yosemite. And he said,
- 52:19Speaker 1: what happened? And, um, I will just tell you, tying
- 52:23Speaker 1: back to the conversation we were having a little bit earlier, um,
- 52:27Speaker 1: if my spotty senses are correct, and he's talking about
- 52:29Speaker 1: he was out there in the woods with these non-white people,
- 52:32Speaker 1: if the bear had ate him, they'd have put him
- 52:34Speaker 1: in one of them memes that I've been seeing going
- 52:37Speaker 1: around with Sherrod Moore. Who else? They put Mel Tucker
- 52:42Speaker 1: in the picture.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Who else?
- 52:44Speaker 1: Who else they have in there? But if you had
- 52:46Speaker 1: got ate by a bear because you was in the
- 52:49Speaker 1: woods with some non-white people, I get the feeling you'd
- 52:53Speaker 1: have been on the same list.
- 52:56Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
- 53:00Speaker 3: Hey, Bo, first time, long time from the wild to
- 53:03Speaker 3: northern Michigan. I met my wife in the wilderness of
- 53:09Speaker 3: northern New Mexico at the World's Largest View Camp in Cimarron,
- 53:12Speaker 3: New Mexico. And so I was not walking with my cousins,
- 53:16Speaker 3: but I was walking with my future wife into the woods.
- 53:20Speaker 3: And we were doing things that young people do when
- 53:23Speaker 3: they get away from, you know, Nature taking its course. And,
- 53:29Speaker 3: you know, bears are known for two things. One is,
- 53:34Speaker 3: you know, terrible eyesight and an excellent sense of smell.
- 53:40Speaker 3: So I can just imagine what this bear saw on
- 53:45Speaker 3: the ground, writhing and also smelling, probably something like it.
- 53:51Speaker 3: And I looked up and I saw this big old bull,
- 53:54Speaker 3: the bear. come walking up towards us. And I got
- 53:58Speaker 3: right up, had to protect my lady, threw my overalls on,
- 54:02Speaker 3: and I started yelling and screaming, and, hey, bear, get
- 54:05Speaker 3: out of here, as is the custom when you see
- 54:07Speaker 3: a bear such as that in your area. And I'm
- 54:10Speaker 3: waving my hands, and that old boy just kind of
- 54:13Speaker 3: stopped and made a different direction. He did not change pace.
- 54:18Speaker 3: He was not scared. He didn't care about me at all,
- 54:22Speaker 3: but he knew that that he needed to just keep walking.
- 54:28Speaker 3: And I was a lucky man that day, that's for sure.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Ryan, the last thing I expected was that voice, and
- 54:37Speaker 1: everything kept getting even more and more unexpected. It built
- 54:41Speaker 1: to such an amazing crescendo of defying expectations.
- 54:46Speaker 2: He just threw in, went to the world's largest youth
- 54:49Speaker 2: camp as an aside.
- 54:51Speaker 8: Yes, yes, yes, he did, he did. And also, I
- 54:56Speaker 8: don't think he knows what kind of walk. Hey, shout out.
- 55:02Speaker 1: To you, Big Dog.
- 55:04Speaker 2: He was having a great time.
- 55:06Speaker 1: You was making it happen. But shout out to you
- 55:09Speaker 1: also for throwing all your overalls. That wouldn't have been.
- 55:13Speaker 2: He's at extremely northern Michigan. I'm assuming that means the
- 55:16Speaker 2: upper peninsula. And I don't know if you know about
- 55:18Speaker 2: that place.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, I look. That is one of those
- 55:22Speaker 1: I need to look up, like how that works.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:27Speaker 1: But wow, that was an amazing story. I appreciate that, man. Hey,
