- 0:00Hello, welcome back to Wow to Old School, a podcast miniseries
- 0:04where I'm talking with the Wow creators that jumped over to Old
- 0:07School and tried it. Get their perspectives and
- 0:10insights on World of Warcraft and Old School 2 of Gaming's
- 0:14most popular MMORP GS to see. Why they did that?
- 0:17Today's guest has been PvP ING across MMORP GS for the last 20
- 0:22years, truly embodying a character he created.
- 0:25Actually first saw him during an undead meeting where he
- 0:27challenged our governor, the undead governor to a the duel to
- 0:33the death and killed him shouting bunkai before killing
- 0:39him. Didn't really know what I had
- 0:42seen in front of me, in front of my eyes, but it was it was cool.
- 0:45That was my introduction to this next guest, Shobeck.
- 0:48He has gone absolutely full throttle on old School
- 0:51Runescape. He's got a quest Cape, he's
- 0:53gotten a BofA. He's got probably 1000 plus
- 0:56hours played. You may have recently seen some
- 0:58discussion about Shobeck since he kind of announced to
- 1:01everybody that he's taking a step back from old school.
- 1:04So we'll talk about that with him too.
- 1:06I just, I just want to say, you know, this is not just for
- 1:09Shobeck, but for any creator in the future that stops playing
- 1:13Runescape or takes a break from Runescape.
- 1:17Relax. Just relax.
- 1:20Don't take it personally if somebody stops playing Runescape
- 1:24for a second. There's nothing against you, OK?
- 1:27Showbeck's not doing it just to spite you, all right?
- 1:32Just just relax, everything's fine.
- 1:37You're fine. And I know there's been a ton of
- 1:39people giving Shobeck shit for saying he's going to get an
- 1:42untrimmed Slayer Cape and Iron Man Zuck helm, but if you have
- 1:47the slightest bit. Of old school.
- 1:50Runescape game knowledge. If you know anything about
- 1:53anything when it comes to Runescape then you should know
- 1:57if a new player comes along and says I'm going to get an Iron
- 2:01Man Zuck helm and an untrimmed Slayer Cape and Blood Torva.
- 2:06Then you nod your head and cheer them on.
- 2:10It's like a little kid coming up to you saying I want to be an
- 2:13astronaut and then once they graduate high school you're in
- 2:16disbelief when they don't want to join the Air Force.
- 2:19Surely you saw it coming. Surely you saw it coming that
- 2:23maybe, just maybe, they weren't up to the task when they
- 2:26realized what the task was. I don't know, crazy, crazy
- 2:31thought. Just relax people.
- 2:34Just let them have fun. Maybe some of them will make it
- 2:36happen, but if they don't, who gives a shit?
- 2:39That's that's all I wanted to say about that.
- 2:41Anyway, here's Shobec. Well, shobec, how long have you
- 2:57been playing World of Warcraft? I've been playing World of
- 3:00Warcraft since the beginning. I think it was like 2004 or 5 or
- 3:036, I don't really remember, it's been so long.
- 3:06But the original expansion, World of Warcraft, I was there.
- 3:09And once I started playing that game, I never really stopped.
- 3:13Obviously it was a relationship that was like on and off, kind
- 3:16of like how Runescape guys are like, you know, no one, never.
- 3:19You don't really quit, you just take breaks.
- 3:21It's the same thing with Wow. You don't really take, you don't
- 3:23really quit, you just take breaks.
- 3:24You come back at the new expansion, maybe at the end of
- 3:27one, to kind of like get your footing again.
- 3:29And yeah, I've been playing since the very beginning.
- 3:32No super long like year long breaks or anything, just kind of
- 3:35like a almost like a seasonal sort of revisit sort of thing.
- 3:40Yeah, so I was very seasonal because, I mean, I was like in
- 3:44school. And do we grew up in such a
- 3:46crazy time, right? Like, I loved Halo.
- 3:50And as I was playing Wow, well, new Halos are coming out, the
- 3:55Call of Duties are coming out. And so with friends, I'm playing
- 3:57those games. So whatever game was like really
- 4:00coming out, we were playing that watch came out.
- 4:03I'm playing Overwatch. Yeah.
- 4:05So I was definitely a heavy seasonal player.
- 4:10And I think the longest break I ever really took from World of
- 4:13Warcraft was when I started to actually even be a streamer.
- 4:17Back then it was almost impossible and not even viewed
- 4:21as a thing to even make it in the streaming as an MMO player.
- 4:25So at that point I had to just kind of like, and that was the
- 4:27original thing I wanted to do, right?
- 4:29I grew up watching Rec Full and Soda, and those guys really
- 4:33solidified the imagination of even being a streamer.
- 4:36And so I wanted to make it as an MMO streamer, but I couldn't
- 4:40even do that. So I played FPSS all the way up
- 4:44until 2019 vanilla relaunch. And then from there I kind of
- 4:50made this stake and claim like I want to do what I want to do and
- 4:53be an MMO streamer. And so then I've been playing in
- 4:57a game pretty much consistently since, with a very minimal
- 5:00brakes, if not any. Gotcha.
- 5:03That being said, you know, you've got this huge backlog of
- 5:07playing World of Warcraft and, you know, different expansions
- 5:10seeing different areas of the game, which has I guess molded
- 5:14you into a certain type of player.
- 5:16So like how would you best describe your play style and
- 5:20like approach to an MMO like World of Warcraft?
- 5:24Flashy. I'm definitely the flashy
- 5:26player. Like PvP oriented would you say
- 5:29then? Oh yeah, also all the way.
- 5:32I mean, I love PvP. I love PvP since the very
- 5:36beginning. I think just competitive games
- 5:38in general and what, you know, playing Super Smash Brothers
- 5:42with your friends and doing like, you know, 99 Lives or Soul
- 5:45Calibur or whatever, you name it.
- 5:48It's always just been competing. So I always loved PvP because
- 5:53that's what we got into when we were younger.
- 5:55Right. Yeah, I've noticed that like as
- 5:57we're growing up, I think it's like this.
- 6:00I don't know if it's just like an adult mentality of like not
- 6:03really wanting conflict or something, but I've just noticed
- 6:06as everyone grows up, like PvP in games has slowly died down,
- 6:12but it's also still popular with like, you know, when we were in
- 6:15playing like Call of Duty and shit, it's like that generation,
- 6:18those kids at that age are still like gung ho about it.
- 6:22And, you know, it's just like MMO audience, like our
- 6:25demographic, it's fizzled out a little bit, like the desire to
- 6:30have PvP features and everything.
- 6:32So have you noticed that kind of trend, like seeing that PvP kind
- 6:35of gets like neglected in the games that you're playing?
- 6:37Yeah, it's really heartbreaking because I feel like the
- 6:40developers and even the players themselves, they don't realize
- 6:43that PvP is the actual like, reason and glue that like keeps
- 6:47the game going. And if you don't have the PvP
- 6:50and if the gameplay isn't fun, then the game falls victim or
- 6:56succumbs to whatever the quote UN quote content is for the
- 7:00game. And so if you look at it for a
- 7:02World of Warcraft standpoint, if you're not into PDP, all that 60
- 7:07can give you if you play classic Wow is a raid once a week and
- 7:11that is all the game can offer to you.
- 7:13But if you're into PDP, then there is no there, there is no
- 7:18limit to what you can do in your potential.
- 7:20You can just go out into the world and the content is
- 7:23infinitely new because you don't know who you're going to run
- 7:25into. You can group up with your
- 7:27friends and you don't know what you're going to get yourselves
- 7:29into. You don't know who you're going
- 7:30to fight and what type of rivalry you're going to start.
- 7:34And it's just that mysticism of just the unknown.
- 7:36But that has to have fun gameplay.
- 7:40And I think what has happened is over the years, we've played so
- 7:43many Mmos and we just know when things are fun and aren't fun or
- 7:48unfair and just broken. And I think people are just kind
- 7:52of tired of it. And we're just waiting for the
- 7:54gameplay to truly just be fun again.
- 7:57And so obviously that's not, you know, an umbrella statement
- 8:02because, yeah, people really do just love Pve and PDE needs to
- 8:06be fun as well. I just feel that right now
- 8:12people are, it's like, I've been there, done that, and they're
- 8:16just kind of like waiting for a new experience and a clean slate
- 8:20for like everyone to like be riled up.
- 8:23Because you know, you look at people that have done things in
- 8:26Runescape and they played it for 20 years or Wow and they've
- 8:28played it for 20 years. There's so many seasons.
- 8:31Everything is kind of like blending into itself.
- 8:34Like it doesn't really matter. And like they've already proved
- 8:37themselves five years ago or seven years ago and they did
- 8:40that. Now they're chilling different
- 8:42state. So you have to like re spark
- 8:45that. And it's really hard to re spark
- 8:47that when it's like a recycled game.
- 8:49And so I think if it's new and if it's fun and engaging and
- 8:53there is a lot of hype, I think that spark gets rekindled.
- 8:57But as of right now, there's nothing that is nurturing that
- 9:01flame. And so it's getting dimmer and
- 9:03dimmer and dimmer. And now it's now like APVE thing
- 9:07and you just go in and do your PDE content and then it's, you
- 9:10know, you do the content and then that's it.
- 9:12Yeah, I see that kind of like happening.
- 9:15Definitely yeah. The the whole PvP situation is
- 9:18just like, I won't. I also, I feel like each MMO has
- 9:21its own like I guess issue of trying to figure out how to
- 9:26balance the PvP player base with the player base that doesn't
- 9:31care for it and keep it relevant across updates and everything.
- 9:35It's it's always a tough subject.
- 9:37I feel like devs, it's like a nightmare for them to try and
- 9:40figure out like how to keep PvP in because I mean Mmos.
- 9:45I I'd imagine the devs don't want to see PvP be put on the
- 9:49back burner or anything because it, it is such a staple to Mmos
- 9:52and has such a long history going back.
- 9:55So I mean, we could talk all freaking day about PvP and
- 9:58everything really. Yeah, there's so much to talk
- 10:01about with it. But so would you classify
- 10:03yourself basically as a PvP or then like if you were to
- 10:06classify yourself as a type of player, then PvP?
- 10:09Yeah, always PvP. Cool.
- 10:11I do Pve for the means to PvP. Nice.
- 10:14Yeah, I got that vibe very quick for me and only things when you
- 10:17were dueling people at meetings and shit very fast.
- 10:22Learned that. Yeah, very fast.
- 10:23You be fighting people. So right now like in the World
- 10:28of Warcraft community and you know that that side there's
- 10:32seems to just be like a lot going on with like the Legion
- 10:36remix right now. There's the Mop classic, there's
- 10:39the anniversary servers, there's classic classic, there's retail,
- 10:43a lot of divided communities, split player bases, all this
- 10:47stuff. When you think about World of
- 10:50Warcraft, like collectively all of that considered like, what
- 10:54are your general thoughts on its current state?
- 10:57Sad. Sad.
- 11:00Sad. It is sad.
- 11:02It's, I mean, I've given myself to that game and that game has
- 11:06given me everything, right? Like Wow has given me
- 11:09everything. Some of the early machinimas and
- 11:13PDP videos and just funny videos, right?
- 11:16Like, for example, when I was, you know, connecting and, and
- 11:19watching some Runescape stuff and learning about the guy
- 11:22that's like gothics. I forgot the the, the Runescape
- 11:25video, but these things that like sparked a lot of my inner
- 11:29core personality and quirkiness and, and whatever.
- 11:32Like Wow has given me everything.
- 11:34And to still look at Wow and just see this unbelievable
- 11:39potential and it's just not being tapped into.
- 11:43And then it just being essentially an inch deep and a
- 11:46mile wide, just trying to capture everything when it
- 11:49really could just be an inch wide and a mile deep and just
- 11:53have such an unbelievable experience for people to enjoy
- 11:58and and have the same way that they did in like 2007 eight and
- 12:02nine. When there's like what,
- 12:0411,000,000 active Subs and players playing and you have
- 12:08celebrities and it's just like so mainstream and vibrant.
- 12:11When I see it be so dispersed, it's just impossible for it to
- 12:15ever really be anything and allow it to truly grow.
- 12:18Yeah, it's just a sad thing to see.
- 12:20I don't know why they're doing it.
- 12:23I have my own theories and whatnot and I can ramble and
- 12:26doom all day. Typically whenever anyone brings
- 12:28up Wow, I straight up just become a doomer.
- 12:32It's just such an unbelievable romantic relationship that I
- 12:35have with that game that it's so hard for me to even stay not
- 12:41emotional or just have so much, you know, stuff come out.
- 12:45I'm like, Oh my God, you know, Because I, I really do love that
- 12:49game and I really, really do love Mmos.
- 12:51And that just translates to every or any MMO.
- 12:54I really just want Mmos as a whole too, to be like the number
- 12:59one thing on Twitch and streaming and what everyone
- 13:02cares about. Like, yeah, yeah.
- 13:03That's how I feel about Wow right now.
- 13:05It's a it's a sad thing. It's a little chaotic and crazy,
- 13:08but there's there's some cool things in the future.
- 13:10I do think. I know I'm yapping a little bit.
- 13:12Oh. You're good, you can yap all
- 13:14day. Cool.
- 13:15I do think right now we are finally at the crossroads of a
- 13:19conversation where there's no longer and I, I really hope, but
- 13:23there's no longer a possibility of like a rerun or something,
- 13:28'cause now we're at the point with World of Warcraft where
- 13:32Blizzard is facing the reality of Classic Plus and what that is
- 13:38for every MMO player or maybe the Classic or World of Warcraft
- 13:43community. It is Wow 2, essentially Classic
- 13:46Plus is World of Warcraft 2 and it's a big shoe to fill cause
- 13:53it's not the same team. So they kind of adopted this
- 13:58golden goose egg and we're going to see for the first time within
- 14:02maybe the year or two what World of Warcraft 2 is going to look
- 14:05like for Classic because it can't exist in retail.
- 14:10Too much is gone, it's too bloated.
- 14:12It you need a full hard reset. So Classic Plus is technically
- 14:18the the wow too. And if that like goes on like
- 14:21Runescape, it truly is the the reset and and go, which is an
- 14:25unbelievable time. I mean, you guys lived in it, I
- 14:28think 2013 and you guys have been living.
- 14:31Yeah. And you guys have been living in
- 14:33it with like we're getting sailing.
- 14:35Hello. What the hell?
- 14:37Yeah, a new skill is coming out in classic or old school
- 14:40Runescape. Like how unbelievable is that?
- 14:42So we are, as a World of Warcraft enjoyer, we are now
- 14:47setting sail on the journey that you guys set sail on 2013.
- 14:52And it's a big, it's a big moment.
- 14:54It's a big. Moment I hope so I hope I hope
- 14:56they do explore it and and handle it correctly, because
- 15:00there is that issue of the entire World of Warcraft player
- 15:04base being like I mean I'm I'm sure retail probably does have
- 15:09the majority of players still, but like the player base is
- 15:12split. There's so many different
- 15:14communities playing different types of the game and you know
- 15:17if you introduce classic plus slash what you're saying wow 2,
- 15:21it's like there's another split. Where do we what they've got to
- 15:26like start cutting off the other versions?
- 15:29I'd say like they they got to slow it down, slash pause slash
- 15:32delete, I I don't know, but it's like how how much can you truly
- 15:38keep splitting the player base? So hopefully there's going to be
- 15:41like a common consensus between the player base, like let's go
- 15:46try Wow 2 together, like everybody go try it and solidify
- 15:51like a the main player base over there.
- 15:55That's I guess the most positive outcome I can see for it.
- 15:59But hopefully they do Hopefully we see it.
- 16:01That'd be sick being a part of the the mass migration.
- 16:07I remember actually looking for your clip specifically for a
- 16:12montage I made in my video. I was, I went to your stream VOD
- 16:17the day before you started Old School Runescape for the first
- 16:21time. And I was like just kind of
- 16:22skimming through seeing if I could find like your chat.
- 16:25I like telling you to try it or anything.
- 16:27And sure enough, I found a point where you were just like, like
- 16:31I, I just, I don't think it would ever be a game for me,
- 16:35man. Like I just don't see myself
- 16:37doing it, you know, like some along those lines.
- 16:39And it was just that was like during your peak, like hard
- 16:42grind in old school. So it was just like so funny
- 16:45seeing your initial like first impression of what old school is
- 16:50prior to trying it versus you are so deep in there like full
- 16:54throttle, like let's fucking do this sort of thing.
- 16:57It was like complete polar opposite attitude towards it and
- 17:00it was awesome. So like what what would you say?
- 17:03Like your initial reason to make that jump to try old school was?
- 17:08Yeah, so for the people that don't know me, I do a lot of
- 17:13like role play content. So I love to create stories and
- 17:16like the character that I play and why I love Mmos is like I
- 17:19live and breathe the character Showbeck.
- 17:23And so I've been playing classic Wow for like the same version
- 17:28and it's not as depth. There's not as much depth as
- 17:32Runescape where you know, if you're playing the game
- 17:35consistently for a couple years, I mean you are really going
- 17:38through in circles. I mean, again, I would wake up
- 17:41and I do this for a living. So I'm PDP ING all day long over
- 17:47and over and over again. And so I was getting to a point
- 17:50where genuinely I was running out of material I was running.
- 17:56I mean, I would literally read like Japanese literature.
- 18:01I would watch new animes trying to get like new stories of
- 18:06inspiration and like lines over like just some sort of like
- 18:10phrases of heroic resolve that I could kind of encumber and like
- 18:15express out into like a fight with someone.
- 18:20But I was just running dry. Like I just, I felt like writers
- 18:25block. I felt like I couldn't write the
- 18:26story of Showbeck anymore and I needed to step away.
- 18:30I just, I I would dread going live and being like, how the
- 18:34hell am I going to PDP for 8 hours when I know everything
- 18:40that's going to happen? And like there is just like you
- 18:44said, or like we were talking about earlier, that spark of you
- 18:47know, it, the PDP and it's a kind of fizzling out and classic
- 18:51Wow that, that kind of romance and intimacy OF1V wanting or
- 18:56fighting or a player wanting to log in and have their stake and
- 19:01and claim their name on the in the ground, saying this is who I
- 19:04am on this server that's not there anymore.
- 19:07Everyone is kind of just in their own bubble and like
- 19:10they're just running to a place and if you attack them, they
- 19:13will barely even fight back or it's a bot or it's just, it's
- 19:17just empty. And so you have all these
- 19:20elements that were just kind of like, it was really tough.
- 19:23It was really, really tough. And I liked Runescape when I was
- 19:28younger. I logged on some of my friends
- 19:30accounts and what not, but I always knew the PDP wasn't
- 19:33really like a thing that I liked.
- 19:36But I was in this kind of desperation moment and I saw
- 19:41Guzu and I saw Savix and they were streaming in at the time
- 19:45and I was like, wow, these guys like their channels are doing
- 19:48phenomenal. They're able to step away from
- 19:51their main game and they're doing great.
- 19:53And then I was like watching Savix's YouTube video about the
- 20:00fire Cape. And I was like, wait a second,
- 20:03this is kind of bunk high. Like he is now making this
- 20:07character story around his guy going through Runescape and
- 20:10trying to get the fire Cape. And that was something that like
- 20:13none of my friends ever did when we were younger.
- 20:16All I know is about, you know, killing cows.
- 20:19I got enough for like 10K gold to try to get some black trim.
- 20:24Then I got black armor, then this guy from like the dude from
- 20:27Virac, then this guy's like you all come trim it and then I lost
- 20:30it all and I quit like it's the generic like the absolute
- 20:35generic schemas video story. And so I watched Sabix's video
- 20:42and I was like, wait a second, this is kind of bunkai.
- 20:45This is really cool and then I see Sony streaming it and this I
- 20:50promise you this was the change because when I was watching
- 20:53Savix and Guzu, I didn't I couldn't get over Runescapes
- 20:56graphics like now playing it, I really I do love it's
- 21:02individuality like Runescape is so unapologetically Runescape
- 21:06and games need to be that way. The games need to be like this
- 21:10is who we are, This is our aesthetic and the community has
- 21:13to you know, either like that or not.
- 21:16And then that's how you really garner a beautiful community
- 21:18such as, you know, Runescape has and other games have.
- 21:21And so when I was watching them, I was like, man, the graphics
- 21:25are really, really bad. Like, I don't know if I can
- 21:28really like RP and get into it because Savage was playing on
- 21:32default, like no animation smoothing, NO117 or anything.
- 21:36But then Sony, bro, Sony was streaming it and I tuned in.
- 21:40I'm like, wait a second, what's going on here?
- 21:43This game looks so different. He had 117 on and he had
- 21:47animation smoothing and it was like, wait a second, this is the
- 21:50classic plus experience. Like this game actually looks
- 21:54good now. I, I freaking love it.
- 21:57And so then it was, it was really the graphics thing.
- 22:00And I, I say it all the time and people, even in the Runescape
- 22:03community, they hear it all the time.
- 22:05A big thing that people don't want to play Runescape on is
- 22:09first, I would probably say it's the graphics and then second is
- 22:12the clicking. They're not like they're not
- 22:14able to get over those hurdles for them to like get into the
- 22:18game. But if they do, they'll love the
- 22:20game. They'll love the damn game.
- 22:23And as a a casual player, you can get a lot of hours, a lot of
- 22:28hours in the game and really be like, damn, this is a never
- 22:31ending adventure. Yeah, So it it really was when I
- 22:35watched Sony after watching Savix's like hype video for I'm
- 22:39going to go for lava Cape or fire Cape that I was like, damn,
- 22:43the new graphics I can get behind this like this is
- 22:46actually pretty cool. And then I learned about rune
- 22:48light and all the new add-ons to customize, for example, the
- 22:53camera. You can now actually control
- 22:55your camera fully. It's not like limited how it was
- 22:58back in the day that allowed me to get more immersive.
- 23:01Then we made the bunkai add on. I had the portrait set up so I
- 23:05felt like I wasn't really looking at a bag.
- 23:07I was actually playing in MMO. And then I had my own little
- 23:11Runescape character portrait. So I felt like I was playing
- 23:14some old school PlayStation game with my little, you know, Sora
- 23:19or like a little Sora nameplate. And it was, it was bad ass.
- 23:24Yeah. And that's kind of like how I
- 23:27was able to, like, get into Runescape when I didn't even
- 23:31think it was in the realm of possibility.
- 23:33It was just at a crossroad of desperation and slight
- 23:38inspiration where I was like, dude, nothing's coming out for
- 23:42two years. I have to figure out how to keep
- 23:44this ship, this ship sailing because I'm a streamer.
- 23:47I'm just going to do it. I mean, these two other guys did
- 23:50it and they're doing good. I'm going to do this and figure
- 23:53it out. And if it doesn't go well, I can
- 23:55always just go back, right? If I fall flat on my face.
- 23:59Yeah, guys, I tried Runescape. You know what not, But that
- 24:02wasn't the case. I tried Runescape and you guys
- 24:04loved me. You guys uplifted me.
- 24:07You and I, we're on a call right now.
- 24:09Usually unbelievable. So yeah, that's how it kind of
- 24:13like all fell into place. And then it was the whole
- 24:16movement. Wow streamers coming to
- 24:18Runescape. And I just so happened to be a
- 24:22part of that. Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 24:24That was a a crazy explosion, man.
- 24:27Like just the amount of I guess everyone kind of realizing the
- 24:32initial guys who started playing old school weren't stopping.
- 24:37They they continued playing and it suddenly got everyone else
- 24:40looking over and suddenly everyone's trying it out and it
- 24:42was it was awesome. But going back to what you said,
- 24:46I thought it was like super interesting with the, the
- 24:50Showbeck character that you know, you're, you're performing
- 24:54as and thinking of ways to tell a story for what you do.
- 24:58And then kind of like intertwine that with, with gameplay.
- 25:02It's very interesting because World of Warcraft it you've got
- 25:07to get very, very creative to make something like that work.
- 25:12And you did. But most people can't do that
- 25:16because of World of Warcraft as a game.
- 25:19Like you could make your your character an RP, but to tell the
- 25:23story and create a story, you have to go above and beyond and
- 25:27create scenarios in game. Like especially with like PvP to
- 25:33make anything even possible in that sense.
- 25:35Like that's the only like PvP is the only real angle I could see
- 25:40like a unique story coming to life.
- 25:43You know, obviously with like only things there was a bunch of
- 25:46kind of like adventurous things that I did with other players
- 25:49who had never played. And you know, that's fun in
- 25:51itself, but from like the video game standpoint, it's really
- 25:55tough in like a linear theme park game like Wow to create a
- 26:01character from scratch or build on a character.
- 26:05Like you got to really, really try.
- 26:07And it's crazy looking at that, in contrast to Old School
- 26:13Runescape where we've had this huge just shift in content
- 26:20creation starting in in like 20/19/2018.
- 26:24Especially with Swampletics. I'm sure you've seen slash her
- 26:27Swampletics of being able to make an entire story out of an
- 26:35account through thousands of hours of gameplay and changing
- 26:40everything about the landscape of the game.
- 26:42Just from telling a character's story and just seeing how many
- 26:46people created their own stories and their own series.
- 26:49From just being inspired by seeing somebody else's unique
- 26:53journey and being able to tell their own story by creating a a
- 26:57different scenario, like a different path to play through.
- 27:01It just became such a, a common thing to do is make your own
- 27:07story and show everyone that story.
- 27:10So in essence, like this game was calling you to fucking make
- 27:16a show back story over here because that's kind of what this
- 27:20game has been doing for many, many years now for a lot of
- 27:23people. And I mean, you don't even do
- 27:26this series to do it either. It's like everyone's got their
- 27:28story. Oh yeah.
- 27:30I mean, we did it once we came over here, we immediately made
- 27:35the machinimas and like started to create like the anime
- 27:38episodes of me going through specific quests or like funny
- 27:42moments and just really creating these like animation movies of
- 27:49just show back going through Gilanor.
- 27:52I, I, I loved it and I think it's so cool with, with
- 27:56Runescape is that a lot of those kind of tell your story is so
- 28:01ingrained. I think World of Warcraft has
- 28:03lost that. It's really cool to see the
- 28:05resurgence in Runescape. Wow has lost it a lot.
- 28:09I have seen some cool R peers kind of pop up.
- 28:12There's a paladin, there's another rogue.
- 28:15I see them kind of doing some like bunkai RP.
- 28:17And it is cool because my mission statement is like
- 28:21restoring the RP and MMORPG, like that's all I want to do.
- 28:24And so when I would came over to Runescape, it was so cool to be
- 28:28just surrounded by people that are playing a character pretty
- 28:31much to create a story and say, like I was saying earlier, you
- 28:37know, state their name in the sand and say, hey, this is who I
- 28:41am and this is my story that I want to write because it makes
- 28:44gaming so much more fun, not only for the actual player
- 28:48because they have this such unique goal that is so romantic
- 28:52and intimate to them that it makes them love and be able to
- 28:55pour themselves into the game far beyond like what any
- 28:59rational person would do. So it's almost like this art
- 29:03passion project that's like greater than them.
- 29:05And when you have that at a collective space or a collective
- 29:10level, everyone is just running off of inspiration from each
- 29:14other. And then now you have people
- 29:15that really just care for the game and they care for the
- 29:18community and the players in that community.
- 29:21Not this day that there's not toxicity, but I'm just simply
- 29:24saying there's just so much more love and passion going around
- 29:28and it sparks that flame. It's like very contagious.
- 29:33And it's not like it's not even like a Pve flame being kindled
- 29:37or a PvP kindled. No, it's like you as a player in
- 29:41the world kindled and like whatever you want to do in the
- 29:44game, that's like for you to decide.
- 29:47But the Kindle is there where they're you're, you're just
- 29:49going at it gung ho. And that's something that I
- 29:53think Wow has lost for a very, very long time.
- 29:57There's not a lot of players that have that Kindle where
- 30:00they're like, they want to kind of do stuff like that and above
- 30:03and beyond. And maybe it's because it's not,
- 30:06you know, as sandboxy as as Runescape.
- 30:10Like, maybe the only angle you really can do is just make PvP
- 30:13shorts and videos of you creating these stories and
- 30:17battles between people. But still, it, it was a
- 30:21beautiful thing. Like, I immediately felt it when
- 30:23I came over here and meeting some of you guys and like, what
- 30:26you and learning what you guys have done in the past, like
- 30:30absolutely crazy stuff with the characters and the stories that
- 30:37some of the Runescape players have created and just have even
- 30:40taken place in Gillenor is like wild, yeah, just wild stories.
- 30:46Yeah. And, and to the level, the level
- 30:48to exit, like the level to those stories and like the lengths
- 30:51that people are like went through.
- 30:53Because again, I mean, I never even got a 99 and I know what it
- 30:57takes to get a 99 and what these people have done bro.
- 31:02It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 31:04Really is. Yeah, it's it's unlike any other
- 31:06game. I say it all the time.
- 31:07Runescape gamers or grinders? 2nd to none.
- 31:11Yeah, there's no one. There's no one above Runescape
- 31:13grinders. There's no one.
- 31:14It's yeah, it's. You you guys have?
- 31:16It's insane, yeah. I guess to kind of rewind a
- 31:20little bit on the kind of jump over to old school from Wow.
- 31:24Do you remember, like, your first week of playing and just
- 31:28like the impressions that this game had on you coming from an
- 31:32MMO and other Mmos in general of more so that linear vertical
- 31:37progress that you've repeated so many times, like levelling new
- 31:41characters and then coming over here and having this sort of
- 31:46brand new sandboxy experience. Like, do you remember, like what
- 31:52was kind of going through your mind as you figured out kind of
- 31:55how all the systems work? Yeah, it was.
- 31:58It was just vibrant. I think you kind of just noticed
- 32:01everything was just so much more colorful because the game at a
- 32:04surface level, you'd have no idea.
- 32:07It's just how interconnected and webbed together the game is.
- 32:11And when you're a first player and you start kind of going into
- 32:14Gillenor and you explore Lumbridge and go to Draynor
- 32:18Village and start your quest with the Draynor Manor.
- 32:20And then you go up to Viroc. And now you're picking up doing
- 32:24Romeo and Juliet and you're doing all these like quests and
- 32:28whatnot. And then you're going to go
- 32:29like, oh man, I'm going to go over to Falador and what is
- 32:32that? Wolf Mountain, What's over here?
- 32:34And then you're looking at the scales and you're like, what?
- 32:37There's so much web and connection.
- 32:40It's such a an adventure. Like I remember the first week
- 32:43was just such a great rush, not just because the game was new,
- 32:47but just because of how the game was right.
- 32:50Like how how you actually experience a new character in
- 32:55Runescape. It is it.
- 32:57It hits so good. It does, yeah.
- 33:00I, I really do think it hits the same or very similar to a person
- 33:04experiencing levelling a character in Ellen Forest.
- 33:08It's just like it really hits. Definitely.
- 33:10And so when I played it was just like, wow, this game is really,
- 33:16really cool. I loved loved loved the early
- 33:19game and the music too. The music and the ambience, like
- 33:22everything just fit. I hope that answers your
- 33:24question. I don't know if if you need me.
- 33:26To yeah, definitely a little. Bit more detail on something,
- 33:28but you know, it was an uncharted land, no direction in
- 33:33the journey. It was literally just what we
- 33:35wanted to do, where I wanted to go.
- 33:37And like, it was so great. Like there wasn't a quest guide
- 33:40or an arrow telling me. And yeah, I before everyone in
- 33:42the comments section, well, actually, can I give you your
- 33:45question? I, I did when I was doing the
- 33:46quest game thingy, but when I first started, I was doing the
- 33:50Goozu route where I was reading everything and whatnot.
- 33:54But even if you do follow that guide like you, you just get
- 33:57detoured. You no matter what you have to
- 33:58get detoured. So when you play Runescape,
- 34:01you're really just kind of like doing your own script.
- 34:04There isn't, there isn't a way to play the game.
- 34:06You log in and you play the game the way that you want to play
- 34:09the game, and you progress the way that you want to progress.
- 34:12And I love that. I loved being able to truly
- 34:16freely as a content creator, log on the game and play it exactly
- 34:20how I want to and not ever feel that I'm doing wrong or bad or
- 34:25whatnot. Because like realistically it's
- 34:28my story to tell, like we were talking earlier and there's,
- 34:32there's no wrong way to tell your story in Gilanor.
- 34:34Yep, right. And that's the great thing.
- 34:37There's no wrong way to tell your story in Gilanor.
- 34:39Definitely. And I, I'm going to sound like a
- 34:41complete hypocrite when I say this because I will, I'll go
- 34:44into why because you already know why, but I loved how fast
- 34:48you kind of looked at the game and came up with a goal to shoot
- 34:54for, even if it wasn't the end goal that you ended up getting.
- 34:59But the fact that it put you on a unique path that basically no
- 35:03one was following, you were like, all right, I'm going to
- 35:06get untrimmed Slayer Cape, like, immediately.
- 35:10And obviously I tried to talk you out of it.
- 35:15So did many other people. But yeah, you know, I remember
- 35:18telling you like I typed into your chat at one point, I'm
- 35:21like, look. You know I'll.
- 35:22Always support people going for some crazy lunatic goal because
- 35:27that's like the beauty of the game.
- 35:29But I do have the right to tell you that it's a dumb idea.
- 35:32Like that's like, and that's the epitome of all Runescape
- 35:35accounts. Like any Runescape account
- 35:37that's done something crazy was a stupid idea, and it's
- 35:41fascinating that people go through with it and it's it.
- 35:44It's really what makes those unique stories come to life.
- 35:48So two things 2 two things. First off, I obviously didn't
- 35:54realize like what it truly, truly meant.
- 35:58Like I play Mmos for a living and I come over to Runescape
- 36:03like, ah, yeah, bro, I know it's a grime, but like, it's going to
- 36:05be doable, right? Like you're telling me no, like,
- 36:08Nah, bro, I got this, bro. So the first thing is it's kind
- 36:12of like this thing where I didn't think, I didn't really
- 36:14understand what it actually took and what it was really going to
- 36:19look like. But secondly, there's a thing
- 36:23about me whenever I play video games where or anything in life,
- 36:27for some reason I always shoot for this unbelievable lofty
- 36:31goal. Because in my mind, if I created
- 36:33this goal, like for example, I wanted full blood Torva untrim
- 36:37Slayer and Zuck helmet. Everyone's laughing, everyone's
- 36:41laughing, everyone's like you're out of your mind.
- 36:44However, The thing is, is like when when I play the game, I'm
- 36:50so starry eyed. I'm just so in love with the
- 36:53adventure in that goal. It fuels me so much it, it pours
- 36:58unlimited. Imagine like a well and the
- 37:01bigger the goal the bigger the well and it pours into me and I
- 37:06can put all of that energy out to you guys or just even myself
- 37:11towards that. So whenever I play any game, I
- 37:15just go after what I like and wherever that thing is where I
- 37:18like, I will just go after that and it doesn't matter.
- 37:22It never matters if I get it or not, because what matters is how
- 37:27I wake up every single day. And if I wake up every single
- 37:30day and I'm like loving and I'm going after it and I'm and I'm
- 37:33exuding myself and I'm pouring so much energy and everything
- 37:37that's in my opinion, like what matters.
- 37:39And so I would just set these whatever, again, wherever the
- 37:42goals, you know, lie. If Zuck helmet and untrimmed
- 37:45Slayer was a lot easier, I would still just go for those things
- 37:49because I liked it. It just so happened to be
- 37:51unbelievably difficult. I mean, that was diabolical.
- 37:54It was diabolical. You're it.
- 37:56Yeah, it was. But I I'm, I'm such a starry
- 38:00eyed kid, man. Like I love shooting for those
- 38:02goals. It I always say, you know, Les
- 38:04Brown, it's better to aim high and miss than to aim low and
- 38:07hit. And it keeps me starry eyed.
- 38:10It always keeps me hyped up. I'm not the type of guy that
- 38:13sets like little goals and like incremental goals and like, oh,
- 38:16OK, now what's next? Oh no, what's next?
- 38:18I have to set a really, really big goal.
- 38:21And then that allows me to kind of get there kind of like Naruto
- 38:25and being Okage or Luffy and being the pirate King.
- 38:28Like my inner child correlates those goals off of the heroes
- 38:32that I grew up with. And so I mimic that and I'm
- 38:36that's just how I'm wired, right?
- 38:38I'm going to be waking up with a smile every day saying I'm going
- 38:41to go for untrim Slayer and Zuck.
- 38:43Yeah, cool. Everyone calls me delusional.
- 38:45That's fine. I'm smiling.
- 38:46I'm going for it the same way Luffy smiles, the same way
- 38:49Naruto smiles. That's just kind of how I am.
- 38:52I've I've always just been that way with anything, I mean.
- 38:55It's really good, yeah. In World of Warcraft I want to
- 38:58be rank one. That's like O to block level and
- 39:01PVPI want to be ranked one. I want the title and mount.
- 39:04The gladiator mount. Guess what?
- 39:05Never got the mount, never got the title.
- 39:07Unbelievably, painfully average in PvP.
- 39:10But that makes me wake up every single day and love what I do
- 39:14and like, love to pour myself into and try to get better and
- 39:18try to achieve those things because my imagination fuels me.
- 39:22Because a lot of the times, sometimes when you even get
- 39:25those things, the that Kindle and flame, it gets dim.
- 39:29My Kindle and flame is never dim because I'm always going after
- 39:33these crazy dreams and imaginations.
- 39:36So that's what fuels the the hell out of me on on all these
- 39:39things. Nice dude.
- 39:41That's definitely like the first time I think I've I've heard a
- 39:44perspective quite like that. That's super interesting
- 39:48because. Or delusional.
- 39:50I mean, yeah, it's one way to put it, yeah, but.
- 39:54No, I could. But I could totally see what
- 39:56you're saying, like just by watching you play and, and just
- 39:58the, I guess manner that you go about playing, it's it's I, I
- 40:02see exactly what you mean. I just remember at the hotel in
- 40:07Texas listening to you and Sardako, like talk about goals
- 40:14and like the future of like your accounts and everything and just
- 40:17going into it and. Like there was just so much
- 40:21ambition in in what you guys are talking about, like with what to
- 40:24shoot for in the game. And I'm sitting next to foe and
- 40:27every time you guys are talking about like this thing you're
- 40:30going to go and do me and foe just look at each other.
- 40:32We're like these motherfuckers have no idea what they're
- 40:35getting into. Like they have no clue.
- 40:38And like Foe is the he's the guy to like have the credentials to
- 40:42laugh at shit like that because he's done it all forever, like
- 40:46for fucking 12 years now, like doing methods that just, you
- 40:51know, he did the Slayer grind before, you know, anything was
- 40:56remotely quality of life. Like he did the worst possible
- 40:59Slayer grind in 99. So like he knows exactly like
- 41:02just how much it takes to get there.
- 41:05And but it was like, you just never see that initial
- 41:12excitement and ambition anymore because I mean, the game's been
- 41:16out for a long time, but you know it.
- 41:19It's not often that we get to like experience a game like as
- 41:24an adult and suddenly, like all these goals start popping up in
- 41:28our mind and we get excited about chasing them.
- 41:30And like seeing that in real time in real life with you guys
- 41:33talking about it was awesome. It was like, dude, this game's
- 41:36fucking great, man. Like this is cool.
- 41:39I'm I'm glad you're part of it. Yeah, starry eyed kids, man.
- 41:42We were just like, it's like we walked into a game card shop or
- 41:45a Warhammer like Frank's train shop.
- 41:48And we're like, Oh my God, bro, we're going to build all these
- 41:51armies and have all these massive things.
- 41:53We're going to paint them all and it's going to be sick.
- 41:55And Foe is just like, yeah, yeah, they have no idea what
- 41:59they're about to get into. That's a lot out.
- 42:02But like, we just, we're innocent, we're naive, we're
- 42:05oblivious, and we're just like, oh hell yeah.
- 42:08Yeah, dude, it was great. There's been this common
- 42:12discussion. I'm really curious what you
- 42:13think about it. This statement that people have
- 42:16been making of progression matters is this kind of phrase
- 42:20everyone says. This big appeal for a lot of Wow
- 42:23players was that, you know, coming over to old school, the
- 42:27progression has a a whole different feel and a whole
- 42:30different meaning just because of the nature of the game.
- 42:34Like there's no expansions that are going to extend the combat
- 42:37level or the gear stats that are going to crush your old gear
- 42:41immediately. And you know, the, the path that
- 42:44you're going to be taking is not going to be suddenly a different
- 42:47path three years from now because you'd still be on the
- 42:50same one that you set in the 1st place.
- 42:53So did you feel that new type of progression or feel like the
- 42:58difference in what progression meant during the majority of
- 43:03your play? Instantly you'd say.
- 43:05Instantly, I mean, the, the game is just fundamentally designed
- 43:08differently. The the games are just
- 43:12completely designed differently. And you experience it once, once
- 43:17you log into the game because again, it's a sandbox.
- 43:20It's a sandbox game and it's designed for longevity.
- 43:24It's designed to withstand someone taking a break for a
- 43:30year and coming back and having that flame rekindled and being
- 43:35like, oh wow, I don't feel like I'm behind or anything.
- 43:38And it feels like nothing is. It's like time slows down in
- 43:41Runescape, while in the World of Warcraft the time feels like
- 43:48it's fleeting. So in Runescape, time feels like
- 43:52it slows down and you can just enjoy yourself.
- 43:55You can sweat, you cannot sweat. You can kind of play however you
- 43:58want. Whenever you log into World of
- 44:00Warcraft, it feels that the moment you log in, you're the
- 44:05time is running out, whether it is, you know, the first week to
- 44:1060 and being a part of that rush.
- 44:12Now that part of the game is done, time is running out.
- 44:14It's getting closer to to like death.
- 44:17OK, now it's 3 or 4 weeks into the first phase.
- 44:20Everyone's kind of tired of Molten Core.
- 44:22They already have their Priebus. Time is now running out.
- 44:25It's getting closer to death. And it's just, it just
- 44:27constantly feels like it's just dropping off the moment the
- 44:31gates open and you have to hold on to this emotion and
- 44:36excitement and you have to go completely insane and overboard
- 44:39immediately, very irrationally, because you know it's going to
- 44:43be gone very, very short. It's like walking into a room
- 44:47and you have a sugar addiction and there's a cake.
- 44:50And you know that in like the next three seconds, if you don't
- 44:52eat as much as you can, people are going to come into the room
- 44:55and they're going to eat what's left.
- 44:56And it's your favorite cake. And you're like, well, damn, I
- 45:00got to eat my damn cake because it's going to be gone.
- 45:03And then you're not going to get any more cake for a while.
- 45:06And so you're just trying to like savor every or get as much.
- 45:09You're not even trying to savor at this point.
- 45:10You're just trying to over consume and go just rabid.
- 45:14And so that's kind of the nice thing is when you play
- 45:17Runescape, you don't have this like FOMO and it doesn't feel
- 45:21again, like it's fleeting. It's just Gillenor.
- 45:26It's there. It's just there.
- 45:29It's. There, it's just there and you
- 45:32get to play how you want to play and it's just there.
- 45:36Swamp politics happen. That character is now done.
- 45:39It's still there. Mutts has a 126 Max probably and
- 45:44he has a hardcore Zuck helmet. Guess what, it's still there.
- 45:47You can log in, you're not behind.
- 45:49Yep, it's still there. Everything is there and it's
- 45:52beautiful. It's a very beautiful thing.
- 45:55And that I think is this the, the, the, the line difference
- 46:00time fleets when you play Wow, it only is it's it's best at the
- 46:04very beginning and it just gets worse over time.
- 46:08Runescape, it's very just as you see fit, as you want to
- 46:13progress. And the time just feels very,
- 46:16very slow. And you get to choose if you
- 46:18want to ramp it up or not, depending on where you are in
- 46:20life. In World of Warcraft, you don't
- 46:22really get to choose whether you want to ramp it up or not
- 46:25because it's on their release cadence.
- 46:28Oh shit, they want to open up a classic fresh all right, we got
- 46:32to lock in On this date. Oh, if you just decide to have
- 46:36emotion and inspiration because of swamp Lydics or a Jimmy video
- 46:41and you want to start a character and go crazy, cool.
- 46:44You go crazy on a Tuesday bet random Tuesday for some reason
- 46:48you're fucking hyped and you now want to get 99 fishing.
- 46:51OK, awesome. And so that freedom to sink your
- 46:55teeth in is something that is just a really good thing.
- 47:00It's a very, very good thing because I don't think there's
- 47:03FOMO. There might be FOMO when sailing
- 47:06drops. I think there's going to be a
- 47:07massive excitement and I think that'll be a moment or maybe
- 47:10like when new rage drop or something.
- 47:12But it's like with everything, right?
- 47:13Super exciting, right? Overall time is slow in
- 47:17Gillenor. It's a, it's a good, it's a good
- 47:20speed, very good speed. Yeah, it's it's funny you
- 47:24mentioned the like the the feeling of I mean, essentially
- 47:28every patch or expansion kind of being like this ticking time
- 47:32bomb to death of, you know, you feel like you've got to go, go,
- 47:37go. You've got to get there When
- 47:38everyone else gets there, you're running out of time.
- 47:40Like no matter what, the game is almost constantly in a state of
- 47:44that genre. And knowing that a lot of the
- 47:48Wow guys probably, whether they or consciously thinking about it
- 47:53that way or not, is like this kind of how everyone's brains
- 47:56have been wired from playing that game so much.
- 47:59It was interesting to see that kind of translate into your guys
- 48:04experience with Old School Runescape because a lot of you
- 48:07guys are so used to that grind, just heavy, constantly pushing
- 48:12forward. And a lot of you guys progressed
- 48:14so fast, like non-stop progression, getting to end
- 48:20game, like mid game, end game content, just go in full
- 48:24throttle. And it, it almost felt like your
- 48:29guys is, I guess training like your mental training through all
- 48:33of the different events and the, you know, the the hard cores and
- 48:37the season of discoveries and, you know, all these things that
- 48:41have another like a like a hard time limit on them.
- 48:45Kind of came over to the normal Runescape servers.
- 48:49Do you think that kind of played a part in maybe shifting your
- 48:54motivation away since you kind of came at it so fast?
- 48:58No, so I'll make this clear because Guzu made a video and
- 49:02everything like that about like you know, the Wow streamers like
- 49:06some Wow streamers leaving and stuff like that.
- 49:09When I originally came over to play Runescape.
- 49:12Now that I now that you know, the reason why and like where I
- 49:15was mentally when I came over to Gillenor and I just had that
- 49:21spark that like when it when it clicks with me, it clicks with
- 49:24me. So when I was playing the game,
- 49:27I I mean, I was going for untrim Slayer.
- 49:31You can't stay. I was playing meta.
- 49:33I was out of my mind doing the most randomest stuff.
- 49:37I had JCW as coaching me trying to figure out how the hell I'm
- 49:42even going to like, you know, do this and he wants me to do it
- 49:45without, you know, trying to minimize getting as many
- 49:47cannabis as possible and how that route looks like.
- 49:50Making sure he's, you know, watching over we need to go do
- 49:53this and that. So it was never really like I'm
- 49:56playing the game and I'm trying to push constantly because of
- 50:01like what I've been conditioned and wow AI played the game with
- 50:06excitement and enthusiasm because I was so just excited
- 50:09and enthusiastic to play. And then B, my channel was doing
- 50:13amazing. So then that was fueling the
- 50:16dopamine. I mean, I never had that type of
- 50:20views and and this type of Subs and everything like that.
- 50:24I mean, the, the energy and I, I was meeting you.
- 50:27I was meeting faux mutts, no monkey, I mean ever.
- 50:33I was meeting so many creators. Runescape was coming in and it
- 50:37was just like, it was an energy. I mean, I don't know if I was
- 50:41waking up at 4:00 in the morning, I was so damn excited
- 50:46off of 6 hours of sleep or something, I couldn't go back to
- 50:49sleep. Yeah, I would just wake up at
- 50:514:00 in the morning and play the game.
- 50:54Not to progress the game, just to play the game.
- 50:57I wasn't trying to beat the game or anything like that.
- 51:00It was just I would go live. There were people in my chat
- 51:04waiting for me at 4:00 in the morning.
- 51:07Like what is going on? This is.
- 51:08Insane. It's bizarre.
- 51:10And I, I loved it. And it was just this, it was
- 51:13this unbelievable coziness of like logging on Gillenor's time
- 51:17is slower. And I just was doing whatever I
- 51:20wanted to do that day. And it was, let's do some
- 51:23untrimmed Slayer. And so I never really approached
- 51:28it in a way where like I needed to like get it done.
- 51:33I never really took that didn't carry over because I wanted
- 51:36freedom. I wanted to breathe.
- 51:37I wanted a break. And I just wanted to play a new
- 51:41game that was unapologetically new.
- 51:43I was bad at it. And I wanted to learn and just
- 51:46explore it all. And that's what I did.
- 51:48I, I just gave myself, gave myself to the game.
- 51:53I guess I'll continue on like, you know, what happened with the
- 51:55emotions changing and everything like that.
- 51:57Do you want me to? Is this a proper way or do you
- 52:00want me to answer that later? Well, I guess yeah, we could
- 52:02shift into I guess a little background.
- 52:05I mean background as far as I know, is you.
- 52:10I only saw like a clip or something like I didn't even
- 52:14dive into it that deep. But as far as I know, you got to
- 52:17like the mid slash end game grinds of like BofA and you're
- 52:22going to the the red prison and that repetitive grind kind of
- 52:27pushed you away. So you're kind of taking a break
- 52:29because, you know, just kind of not feeling it right now.
- 52:32Yeah, that's, do you even want to talk about that in this in
- 52:34this interview or do you just want to leave that?
- 52:36Yeah, no, I. Absolutely do because you're
- 52:38you're one of the only ones that are going to have that mindset
- 52:41of like wasn't feeling it at some point kind of thing.
- 52:45The other guys I've talked to are still, you know, they're not
- 52:48at any sort of obstacle or something in the road yet.
- 52:53So yeah, yeah. No, you, I mean, feel free to
- 52:55just. Take the mic.
- 52:57Talk about it. Take the mic.
- 52:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 52:59So circling back, essentially what ended up happening was like
- 53:04I was giving myself to the game and you know, we got quest Cape.
- 53:09We no longer were doing the untrim Slayer.
- 53:11We ended up, you know, shifting gears and getting quest Cape and
- 53:14now like actually taking the game seriously because now no
- 53:17longer is it about untrim Slayer.
- 53:20It's now about let's actually go for Zuck helmet and what does
- 53:23that look like? Well, that looks like, well, we
- 53:25need to unlock all the content. Let's go and do quest Cape at
- 53:28that time again, I'm still just fueled on just my stream is
- 53:32doing so good. I'm crap stabbing and connecting
- 53:35with people and it's just like, yeah, bro, no XP waste.
- 53:38And you're kind of just like feeding into this energy and
- 53:42vibe and like, you know how people are just in the game and
- 53:45it's like, it's like it's a fun thing, right?
- 53:47People come in like bro, I gem last night I got 2 levels.
- 53:50What's up? And so yeah, we were we were
- 53:53playing a lot. And then there was a point when
- 53:55I was doing quest Cape where I was definitely feeling tired,
- 54:00but that was it because I, I think I was more so settling in
- 54:03that, hey, this isn't going away.
- 54:05You've been going really, really hard.
- 54:07Let's kind of, you know, take a take a step back.
- 54:09So I stopped gem crabbing and I was playing the game and it
- 54:12wasn't that my interest was leaving at all.
- 54:14I was, I was truly still giving myself to the game.
- 54:17So then we did the unbelievable grandmaster quests, the quest in
- 54:22Runescape, by the way, bro, they're just fire.
- 54:25They really, they really feel like goddamn.
- 54:28Oh they're it's my bread and butter.
- 54:29Dude. I love quests.
- 54:31Desert treasure two man, that one's for the books that's going
- 54:35up there. What an unbelievable finale.
- 54:38So we we end up getting the quest Cape and so now now that
- 54:42I'm done with quest Cape and everything's unlocked now the
- 54:45game is here. The game hit me right in the
- 54:48face. OK well what is next?
- 54:51Because every single motivator before Jimmy was for me to get
- 54:56like a requirement to do a quest.
- 54:58I need 70 of this for SOTEI noticed once I got done with the
- 55:05quest Cape that my desire and ambition to level and do those
- 55:12grinds, it just went away. I don't know.
- 55:18That was like the first moment of it.
- 55:20And I remember when I was doing Caliphate Queen and I was like,
- 55:23I want a dragon chain body because that was like the
- 55:26epitome of prestige and valor in like old, old days.
- 55:30That was like what my brothers and his friends were dreaming
- 55:33of. And I remember people were like,
- 55:35Oh yeah, but you need this helm for the diary.
- 55:38And I was like, I don't really care to do the diary.
- 55:42And then it's like you start, I started looking at the other
- 55:44levels that require for some of the elite Diaries.
- 55:47And I'm like, I like, I don't, I don't want to, I don't want to
- 55:50do that for the diary. It just doesn't like the the
- 55:54effort to reward and like what I would get that was starting to
- 55:58become mismatched. And that's kind of like the
- 56:01first iteration, but I didn't really take note of it.
- 56:04I was still in the game, playing the game and everything like
- 56:06that. That was just the first moment
- 56:08of me now talking out loud with you right now, looking back,
- 56:13that was the first moment of it kind of like seeping in.
- 56:17And then I was doing the BofA grind because I was doing other
- 56:20stuff in the game, but my range set was so weak and I wouldn't
- 56:24be able to afford the runes to be able to do torment to demons
- 56:28on a consistent basis. So I was burning through so much
- 56:32gold and ruins, and I wouldn't be able to upkeep that.
- 56:35And if I tried to, I would have to next the tormented demon task
- 56:40just to get another task and maybe get the gold to be able
- 56:43to, you know, keep Slayer rolling and the gold, you know,
- 56:46flowing. So then maybe later on I can do
- 56:48the tormented demons. And just killing them was
- 56:50horrible. It was just a very slow process.
- 56:54And I couldn't even do the demonic gorillas.
- 56:56It was like, really, really hard for me to do the demonic
- 56:59gorillas. Yeah.
- 57:00So there were these two pillar Slayer quests.
- 57:03And I love the Slayer Cape. It's what I wanted to do at that
- 57:07time I wasn't really able to effectively even dent Slayer and
- 57:11do Slayer. So then I was like OK let's do
- 57:13BofA and I wanted to make it a whole thing and I memed off of
- 57:17SAR like the BofA thon and everything like that, yadda
- 57:19yadda. But it wasn't the grind that
- 57:22burnt me out. It was the grind of the red
- 57:25prison that made me realize what the mid to end game of Runescape
- 57:30is. And it isn't something that
- 57:33aligns with me. And I feel like the crux or the
- 57:38reason that I kind of decided to step away from the game was when
- 57:45we talked about it earlier, you your first question was, you
- 57:48know, like what type of MMO player are you?
- 57:50And I said I'm APV pier PvP in Runescape is not my thing.
- 57:58I've tried it, I've tried it off stream, I've tried to get into
- 58:02it. It is not my thing.
- 58:04And so when I looked at not just the BofA grind, but now circling
- 58:09back to how my like how my drive, like what drives me and
- 58:12how that works within me and those cogs interact, I'm looking
- 58:16at zuck helmet off in the distance and I'm like, I have to
- 58:20do all of this grinding to get zuck helmet, but I won't even be
- 58:24able to PvP with it. Like when I get something cool
- 58:28in World of Warcraft, I want that item to look cool.
- 58:31So when IPVPI feel more like my character, I don't want zuck
- 58:36helmet to flex to everyone that I want to be agmi want zuck
- 58:40helmet just because it looks cool, right.
- 58:43I went from Dillonore is new and vibrant and I'm learning the
- 58:47zones and I'm questing to Then I got to the highest clip of Mount
- 58:51Everest with quest Cape and it was bunkai.
- 58:53And now I'm seeing like I'm at the next phase of the game.
- 58:58And now the next phase of the game is well, you have to do
- 59:02seaweed runs, birdhouse runs. You need to glassblow for 50
- 59:06hours or 103 hundred 400 hours of, you know, going standing
- 59:10outside of a bank and you know, inventory lunar spell back in
- 59:16inventory, lunar spell back in to get, you know, the fury
- 59:19necklace. And then we have to do herb
- 59:21runs. And I was like noticing I don't
- 59:23want to do herb runs. I'm noticing I don't want to do
- 59:25farm runs. I'm noticing I don't want to do
- 59:27mixology. I started noticing I didn't want
- 59:29to do more things. I didn't want to get the
- 59:32community together and go do giants foundry to level up
- 59:36smithing with everyone to go and get the Lumbridge diary.
- 59:40So I don't need a dreaming staff anymore and I just started
- 59:43knowing and seeing myself not wanting to do things in the game
- 59:48anymore because the grinds to achieve these things.
- 59:52Like I said, Runescape grinders, you guys are second to none.
- 59:56It's a really big grind and I wasn't role-playing as much as I
- 1:00:01was. I wasn't making my sword sounds
- 1:00:03as much as I was and I wasn't saying bunkai as much as I was.
- 1:00:08And that was changing my core. So the game was now altering
- 1:00:15kind of like who I am and like what my core was.
- 1:00:19Not in a bad way, it was just changing it.
- 1:00:21And I think it really just kind of like circled back to.
- 1:00:25I didn't really want to PvP in the game, so achieving all of
- 1:00:29these items and rarities and things like that, it didn't
- 1:00:32really have like a deeper purpose because I don't mind AD
- 1:00:36Gen. for stuff because I want to go use it in PvP.
- 1:00:40And so when you remove that from the equation, it was like, I'm
- 1:00:44going to do literally all of this stuff for me to just do the
- 1:00:49next insane thing. Like I'm going to go get
- 1:00:53Warhammer off of a shaman and hope that I have the Joker's
- 1:00:56spoon at 788 kills, which probably won't happen, to then
- 1:01:00go into another really intense crime.
- 1:01:03Like the one thing when I like really felt like I really wanted
- 1:01:08to, I took like a day off and stuff is when we did Cox, when I
- 1:01:12did my first Cox run with everyone, when I did that boss,
- 1:01:16I felt I now done Cox, I've now done TOA and we did TOB together
- 1:01:22entry mode in Texas. And I felt like I did the
- 1:01:25majority of the major raids. And at that point I felt like I
- 1:01:28experienced a lot of the game even though I only got 1 kill.
- 1:01:32But it was at that moment where like I found out that Sync got
- 1:01:35like he has 5000 Cox runs or people were laughing at me where
- 1:01:39they're like, dude, you're going to do 1000 Cox runs probably
- 1:01:42before you see a twisted bow. And that was like, whoa, that's
- 1:01:47a lot of repetition. A lot of repetition.
- 1:01:51And a lot of, you know, getting that item to not be able to PvP
- 1:01:55with it. And then again, like I just
- 1:01:59mentioned the thing that was kind of going under the the
- 1:02:02other leather layer that was happening with, you know, the
- 1:02:05whole bunkai thing and me not really being that like character
- 1:02:09that I love. So it's like all of those
- 1:02:11factors kind of like hit at once.
- 1:02:13And then it was like a really weird thing because Runescape
- 1:02:17has also given me everything. So now I'm in a weird spot where
- 1:02:21I'm having the most success. I've never had this much viewers
- 1:02:27and community. I never had so many content
- 1:02:30creators hang out with me and stream, want to do stuff with
- 1:02:33me, DM me and, and all of these things.
- 1:02:36It's like, imagine you were perfectly happy and then now
- 1:02:40you're perfectly not happy like the next day in a blink of an
- 1:02:44eye. But like everyone, everyone's
- 1:02:48cheering for you and like wanting you and like wanting you
- 1:02:50to continue doing it. And you're just like, Oh my God,
- 1:02:53what the hell? Yeah.
- 1:02:54And it's a scary thing because now, and this is this is like
- 1:03:00where it got really scary. I didn't even really know about
- 1:03:02New World. And like the expansion, there
- 1:03:05were moments where I had no idea what I was even going to do as a
- 1:03:08streamer because I didn't want to go back to Wow.
- 1:03:11I was having this weird alienation, almost like a
- 1:03:15disassociation feel with Runescape, but there was like no
- 1:03:20MMO for me to play. There's like the first time I'm
- 1:03:23sitting here as a content creator.
- 1:03:24I'm like, I don't know what to do.
- 1:03:27Am I just old now? Do I not like gaming anymore?
- 1:03:29Is this something that I'm going through?
- 1:03:31Like what the IT was a this is my dream.
- 1:03:34This was everything for me. This was everything I imagined.
- 1:03:37The viewer count that I've always wanted, the sub count
- 1:03:40that I couldn't even believe I fucking had the amount of money
- 1:03:43that I was able to make. And like, whoa, like this was,
- 1:03:45this was everything I could imagine.
- 1:03:48And it's my, my brain just says, no, I don't, I don't want this.
- 1:03:54I don't, I don't want that. It was, it was just scary as
- 1:03:57hell. And I was like going through a
- 1:03:59really weird thing offline, trying to compartmentalize what
- 1:04:03is going on. Why am I not liking this game
- 1:04:05anymore? What am I going to do next?
- 1:04:08And everything and it was, it was crazy.
- 1:04:09It was down outright crazy. And then I ended up Summit was
- 1:04:13streaming early, was doing good on New World and he was hyping
- 1:04:15it up. And I tried, I tried New World
- 1:04:18and I am really enjoying it and I'm curious.
- 1:04:21I think I'm just, I'm curious and I'm enjoying it.
- 1:04:24It's not the same as Runescape content.
- 1:04:26What New World does have for me is at least allows me to be that
- 1:04:29character again. And I think I need to be that
- 1:04:33character. I need to go back into that
- 1:04:35character. I need to exhaust being that
- 1:04:37character. And then maybe I come back to
- 1:04:39Runescape when I'm exhausted of, oh, I've done it enough or I'm
- 1:04:42struggling with narratives or something.
- 1:04:43But right now I feel like I can pick up the pen and write.
- 1:04:47And if I can pick up the pen and write, then I need to write, You
- 1:04:50know what I'm saying? Like at some point I need to
- 1:04:53stop doing whatever else I was doing and maybe say like, let's
- 1:04:56just use Runescape as a gym. I need to stop going to the gym
- 1:04:59and I need to actually get this book done.
- 1:05:01Like let's to start writing and that's kind of like where I'm at
- 1:05:06and where and what happened with Runescape.
- 1:05:09I genuinely think I just got to the mid end game and I just
- 1:05:12don't really like the mid to end game of Runescape.
- 1:05:14I don't like the repetitive, very deep, long grinds and going
- 1:05:20from one KC and same KC to the next insane KC and then not just
- 1:05:25being able to PvP with whatever insane KCI got.
- 1:05:28And that's that's what it generally just boils down to
- 1:05:30Like, and it was a beautiful run.
- 1:05:32I mean, you know, like I had a beautiful time.
- 1:05:34I met so many people. I met you, you know, I, I met a
- 1:05:37lot of people and it sucks because people are getting used
- 1:05:40to morning coffee with show back and stuff like that.
- 1:05:43So it weighs on me, you know? You know, what's really funny
- 1:05:45is, is the, that you mention New World and like you're, you're
- 1:05:50getting in a new world because you know, my, my history with,
- 1:05:53with Old School Runescape, it, it's actually there's like a
- 1:05:57very clear parallel that you and I, I've experienced and you're
- 1:06:02experiencing with New World playing a very similar role to
- 1:06:08what I experienced. Because no way.
- 1:06:11Because yeah, I, it was, I think it was like 2022 when when New
- 1:06:15World first came out and I was in a very weird place with
- 1:06:21Runescape content because it's just this constant battle of
- 1:06:24like, what do I do next? Do I make a video essay?
- 1:06:27Do I make a series? Do I continue a series?
- 1:06:30What do I do for this month, next month's video?
- 1:06:34How do I continue my career? And it was just like constant
- 1:06:36spinning and knowing I need to do something.
- 1:06:41And I ended up trying New World with a few friends like just out
- 1:06:47of nowhere and ended up just having some of the most Posey
- 1:06:52feelings I've had playing a game in so long.
- 1:06:56If that initial like like new world, like levels one through
- 1:07:0050, it is probably like some of the most hosiest grind you can
- 1:07:04do in any game ever. Like it just feels so nice.
- 1:07:08It's it's relaxing. There's some obviously, like you
- 1:07:12could put yourself in some stressful situations, you could
- 1:07:14PvP, but ultimately it's a very relaxing game to kind of like
- 1:07:20put your mind at ease. But it was through that new
- 1:07:23world experience like this 8, this 800 hours of diving into
- 1:07:29new world, like next to the work that I was doing with Runescape
- 1:07:34that actually brought me to enjoy Old school Runescape PVM
- 1:07:41for really the first time ever. It was the first time ever that
- 1:07:44I was able to actually use something that I experienced in
- 1:07:49another game to come back to my home base game and see things in
- 1:07:54a different light. And just because of how much fun
- 1:07:59I had in New World and the doing the the dungeons and the raids
- 1:08:02in in New World and all the skill I was able to acquire by
- 1:08:08just learning and feeling the satisfaction of like really
- 1:08:14getting down a boss's mechanics and becoming someone that like
- 1:08:17people can rely on was such a, a good feeling in New World.
- 1:08:21I was like, I want to experience that in old school.
- 1:08:24And it was like the first time I was able to take a step back and
- 1:08:28see old school again with like fresh eyes.
- 1:08:32And I think there's a lot of stuff I I I want to comment on
- 1:08:37with like what you're going through with with old school
- 1:08:42Runescape right now. First things first, get it out
- 1:08:46of the way. The you only take breaks things
- 1:08:49is is true. So don't do this sayonara
- 1:08:51bullshit. You'll be back.
- 1:08:53Don't fucking worry about it. It it seems like, you know,
- 1:08:58obviously all the achievements and rewards for, you know, doing
- 1:09:03those really heavy PVM things that you know, it's all
- 1:09:06subjective. So you know that I think that's
- 1:09:09what you're experiencing right now is you're like kind of like,
- 1:09:11what's the point if it's just cosmetic and I can't benefit or
- 1:09:16you know, look cool while PK ING.
- 1:09:19You know that that value isn't there for you right now because
- 1:09:23it doesn't have as much weight to it right now.
- 1:09:25I don't think because I think you're still so new with the
- 1:09:28game that it's hard to grasp just what the Zuckhelm is
- 1:09:35because apart from looking cool, it's probably one of the
- 1:09:40greatest achievements you can possibly get in all of video
- 1:09:44games. It's not an exaggeration.
- 1:09:46It is probably one of the hardest items to achieve in all
- 1:09:50of video games because of what you have to learn and go
- 1:09:52through. It would probably take you 2
- 1:09:55years if you dedicated every day two years to get Zuck helm from
- 1:10:00right now. Don't doubt it.
- 1:10:01Oh yeah. It is fucked up the things you
- 1:10:03got to do for that helm, so it's like that.
- 1:10:07And on Iron Man too. On Iron Man.
- 1:10:10Yeah, this is my next bullet point.
- 1:10:12This is my next bullet point. I'm sure you've talked about it
- 1:10:16before. I think I even heard whispers of
- 1:10:19of you talking about de ironing. What?
- 1:10:22What is your stance on de ironing?
- 1:10:23Let me hear that. No, that is literally a meme and
- 1:10:27Sardeko just feels that meme. No I would never de iron, it's
- 1:10:30just not my type of game. The only way I would ever play
- 1:10:33Runescape if the only time I'd ever not play Iron Man is if we
- 1:10:38could teleport back to world. What three O 3 Falador park?
- 1:10:45What what is it? Edgeville line of PKS and pures
- 1:10:49level like 30 Boeing and then like viroc.
- 1:10:53What viroc? West Bank and everyone on the
- 1:10:57back wall selling Santa hats and Halloween masks for 28 mil 42
- 1:11:03mil. Like if it if if the community
- 1:11:06had no grand exchange and you had to like merch, then yes.
- 1:11:11But the fact that there's a grand exchange and you could
- 1:11:12just put up an item into the ether or accept an item from the
- 1:11:16ether. I would never I would never de
- 1:11:19iron. I just wouldn't play Runescape
- 1:11:21if it was an Iron Man. That's.
- 1:11:22Interesting. Yeah.
- 1:11:23Because. The thing is, is this is like
- 1:11:26people are like showbik, why don't you just de iron and buy a
- 1:11:29BofA? Well, it's like, well, why am I
- 1:11:31going to buy AD iron, buy a BofA and then just go run Cox for
- 1:11:36twisted bow? Or because I'm a streamer,
- 1:11:38someone would probably give me twisted bow.
- 1:11:40So then it's like, well, what am I going to do the things for?
- 1:11:43Am I just going to go for Zuck helmet at that point?
- 1:11:45Like am I just going to learn the raid fights?
- 1:11:48But yes, I could probably I could possibly do that.
- 1:11:51Just get, you know, donated all the gear and then just go for
- 1:11:54Zuck helmet challenge modes. Yes, I probably could do that.
- 1:11:58Yes, it in in some way could have probably been a beautiful
- 1:12:02line up for for content and what something to do, But I didn't
- 1:12:06really want to de iron. I wanted to just play the game
- 1:12:12and I felt that runescape was so bad ass when you just play the
- 1:12:18game and every mob you kill, it's other like you don't get
- 1:12:21that item or you or you do and like when you do get that item,
- 1:12:25it's incredible. You're like dude, you have that
- 1:12:27item on and hardcore like you played the game and the game
- 1:12:31chose you and you now have that, and I love that.
- 1:12:35I love that I really do. You're you're absolutely the
- 1:12:38chat's not wrong. Like, yes, I could Deiron get
- 1:12:42all the legendaries, all the gear, everything donated and
- 1:12:45let's go crazy for Zuck helmet. But I don't know, I just don't
- 1:12:50think it's the right Zuck helmet for me.
- 1:12:52I felt like how you said it's like one of the hardest
- 1:12:55achievements in the game. There's just something about a
- 1:12:58Zuck helmet on an Iron Man man. It's just it is just that like
- 1:13:02it's the undeniable. This guy really went through the
- 1:13:07game. He really did not to diminish by
- 1:13:10any means getting Zuck helmet period.com.
- 1:13:13It's it's the it's World of Warcraft's rank one.
- 1:13:15It's World of Warcraft's, you know, race to world first, like
- 1:13:19or mythic rating. It's like super high end.
- 1:13:22Only the best, the best have this thing.
- 1:13:24So I don't know, I just I'd want it on an Iron Man and if I was
- 1:13:29in a go for it, I'd rather just go for it and commit to it on an
- 1:13:31Iron Man. But yeah, your your people are
- 1:13:34saying like, yeah, dude, you can just de iron and go crazy and
- 1:13:39and just go for Zuck helmet. But I don't know, just didn't
- 1:13:42want to do that. So I guess Zuck helmet side.
- 1:13:45Did anybody ever ask you if you've considered doing like the
- 1:13:48bronze man mode thing? No, I I don't really know what
- 1:13:52the bronze man mode is. It's the bronze man mode.
- 1:13:55It's essentially like a compromise.
- 1:13:57It's a it's a plug in that a lot of players will use when they
- 1:14:02want to experience Iron Man, but also not the full extent of it.
- 1:14:07Essentially it's like once you get an item, once you make it or
- 1:14:12you get it as a drop, anything like that, it then becomes
- 1:14:14tradable and you're able to buy it and sell it as you please on
- 1:14:17the GE. But unless until you get it as a
- 1:14:20drop, it is completely locked from your account, you can't buy
- 1:14:23it beforehand. So essentially you're going for
- 1:14:26that drop, but you know, you don't have to fucking make 200
- 1:14:30prayer potions and do herb runs all day because you've already
- 1:14:33made that prayer potion, you've already acquired it before.
- 1:14:36So it's like you've gotten that sense of achievement of like
- 1:14:38I've gotten my account to this point.
- 1:14:40Everything else is just repetition after that.
- 1:14:44So it it, it keeps that sense of accomplishment of getting your
- 1:14:47account to a certain point, but then not having to kind of go
- 1:14:51through like a grueling process that could take away from the
- 1:14:55whatever goal you have sort of thing.
- 1:14:57But I feel like I, I feel like. At the end of the day man it's
- 1:15:00just it circles back to I want a PvP.
- 1:15:03Yeah, I mean that's that's another thing it's like if PV,
- 1:15:06have you tried much PvP on on old school?
- 1:15:09Yeah, I, I, I was talking about it earlier.
- 1:15:11I just don't, I've tried it, man.
- 1:15:13It's just not my vibe. Yeah, it's not a lot of
- 1:15:15people's. It's just it's.
- 1:15:17A very niche vibe, I'd say. Yeah, it's.
- 1:15:20It's niche vibe, Yeah, it's, it's beautiful in that way, but
- 1:15:23it's it's just, it's not my vibe.
- 1:15:25Yeah, I get that. It's a it's a rough aspect of
- 1:15:29the game to get into. It's especially now because it's
- 1:15:33it's a very small community and it's unfortunately not taken
- 1:15:38very good care of. And you know, that's, that's a
- 1:15:41whole separate issue. But yeah, I mean, ultimately I
- 1:15:43think if, if you're kind of looking at it from a perspective
- 1:15:47of like, you know, you, you want to embody that character of
- 1:15:51being like the PvP guy and you want to kind of make that your
- 1:15:55highlight. You know, I, I can definitely
- 1:15:58see where you're coming from with like setting that value on
- 1:16:01certain cosmetics and like why they wouldn't be worth putting
- 1:16:04the, the time sink in to get it. So it definitely makes sense.
- 1:16:08I see exactly where you're coming from.
- 1:16:11And I think, you know, there's probably a, a possibility that
- 1:16:16some sort of goal slash achievement will seem appealing
- 1:16:20enough to bring you back one day.
- 1:16:22Because I, I think until that does happen, like an, until
- 1:16:25there is something in old school that you want to go for, whether
- 1:16:30you learn about it or it just like pops in your head like, you
- 1:16:32know what? I want to fucking get that
- 1:16:33thing. That's going to be when you're
- 1:16:36going to feel that motivation to come back and play again.
- 1:16:39Because I think everyone needs a goal.
- 1:16:41I think it's like the the key to playing old school happy.
- 1:16:48Well, I mean like you're. Talking like we were talking
- 1:16:51about earlier, it's all about sandboxing and like creating
- 1:16:54your story. If you don't have a story to
- 1:16:55write, then like there, there's no point of even logging in,
- 1:16:58right. So you have to have the story
- 1:17:00set and the story before was get on trim Slayer.
- 1:17:04And then it's like, OK, well, I've just I just made like
- 1:17:0950,000 cannonballs. Oh my God, this is diabetical.
- 1:17:14And so you know it, if you don't have that clear cut goal, like
- 1:17:18you're just going to sit there like, why am I doing this?
- 1:17:20And, and, and that's, that's what it was.
- 1:17:22So if I get a if I get another goal, like, yeah, I I have
- 1:17:28nothing against Runescape. I love Runescape.
- 1:17:30I still only talk highly about the people and and the game.
- 1:17:34Like you guys have a gorgeous game and I would love for other
- 1:17:38games to adapt and take in what Burnscape has just done so good
- 1:17:43with how they do community updates and how they constantly
- 1:17:47are updating the game and iterating it and trying to
- 1:17:49create changes of the community wants.
- 1:17:51And then also to just the skilling system and the depth of
- 1:17:55that. And there's so much to learn
- 1:17:58from this game. And I'm, I'm so happy I played
- 1:18:00because I love game development and I love talking about Mmos.
- 1:18:03And you know, I love, love, love that stuff.
- 1:18:06And playing this game, it really just opened my eyes.
- 1:18:08It just widened my palate. Like I now know and, and
- 1:18:12understand new things. And when I play a new game, I
- 1:18:15now just have more of an understanding of like I can
- 1:18:17either appreciate it. Maybe I would be more naive or
- 1:18:20narrow minded. Now I might be more appreciative
- 1:18:23and that, you know, who knows, maybe because I played
- 1:18:25Runescape, maybe I now like new world way more because I'm now
- 1:18:29appreciative of some of the systems that may overlap or may
- 1:18:32not overlap and whatnot. So All in all, it's been a great
- 1:18:35if the goal is there, I'm there. I'm I'm at a point now where I
- 1:18:40was selling stream. Like the most valuable lesson
- 1:18:42that I've had through all this is like, I don't ever want a
- 1:18:46tribal Runescape community is very, very tribal.
- 1:18:49And I don't think I've tribalized behind Runescape.
- 1:18:53I think I always was just like, yo, I'm playing it.
- 1:18:55I'm like really loving it. But I want to make sure I never
- 1:18:59really tribalize behind a game And I really just have fun
- 1:19:03because I never want to get to a point where I over promise.
- 1:19:07And I like give off this kind of thing of like I'm here forever
- 1:19:12and I'm not going anywhere because I now for the first
- 1:19:16time, really know that you can have unreal twitch success and
- 1:19:19all of this stuff and you can just wake up and not even want
- 1:19:23to hit the go live button or like login because you're just
- 1:19:25like, fuck, I don't know what to do.
- 1:19:27So I never want to get into that position and I don't want to be
- 1:19:30in that position because I don't want to hurt the community
- 1:19:33because that's just not good. Right.
- 1:19:35Like people galvanized behind show back in the story of him
- 1:19:39because like you said, we're all creating stories in the story of
- 1:19:42him and Gillenor and I was, you know, people's morning coffee.
- 1:19:45I was people's, you know, at after after hours wind down.
- 1:19:49And that's now changed. And that was a very valuable
- 1:19:54lesson. And it's come with some pain for
- 1:19:56sure. It was a very valuable lesson
- 1:19:58that I that I've learned. And I think now moving forward,
- 1:20:02I am not putting a limit on myself on anything.
- 1:20:05I simply want to see where the sail sets me or the wind carries
- 1:20:10me. My sail is set.
- 1:20:12And I just want to have fun. And I want to carry bunk eye
- 1:20:15with me. And I want to just bunk eye
- 1:20:17where wherever we want to go. Like I just want to to do that
- 1:20:21kind of like if I don't know if you watch One Piece, but Luffy
- 1:20:25just goes to all these different islands and meets all these
- 1:20:27different people and he just wants to be the Pirate king.
- 1:20:30And I just want to be the bunkai.
- 1:20:31And I just want to go around and see where it takes me.
- 1:20:34I just want to have fun. I think I just want to have fun
- 1:20:36now. For sure dude.
- 1:20:39That's it's a good mindset to be in.
- 1:20:41I I guess just hearing you talk, it kind of sounds like you are
- 1:20:45stepping away from old school indefinitely.
- 1:20:48Do you see yourself like ever incorporating old school into
- 1:20:53like a more casual, just hang out, just chatting type thing
- 1:20:58for yourself or would you rather just kind of avoid it entirely?
- 1:21:02Well, I think the thing that becomes a little challenging is
- 1:21:06if I wanted to mix in Runescape, it becomes a challenging thing
- 1:21:10to do for your content. Because if I just wake up
- 1:21:13tomorrow and say, hey guys, I just wanted to just chatting
- 1:21:15stream and I just feel like glassblowing for 15 hours and
- 1:21:18just yapping then like that might be weird because as you
- 1:21:23probably could imagine, it's already weird for me on stream
- 1:21:26right now. It's weird for me to stream the
- 1:21:28game. There's more talk about
- 1:21:29Runescape in my stream than New World.
- 1:21:32My stream is predominantly just talking about Runescape.
- 1:21:34That's all it is. Shevik, why are you leaving?
- 1:21:36Why is this, you're a wimp, blah blah blah, fuck you.
- 1:21:39All this stuff. And so it's like it's really
- 1:21:43hard to change up your content fastly, especially because I'm a
- 1:21:50person that pumps like energy into the game.
- 1:21:53Like I whenever I play something like I get people excited.
- 1:21:56I get people excited. They're like fuck bro, you made
- 1:21:58me re log in, you know, oh dude, showbik, you made me like pick
- 1:22:01up my iron again and showbik, because of you, I got my BofA.
- 1:22:04The thing is, is like when I play a game, I don't just play
- 1:22:07the game I like. I feel like I really like
- 1:22:11influence people on that. And it's a little bit more
- 1:22:13delicate for me. And personally, my stream where
- 1:22:17I have to be careful with what I do and I can't, I don't have the
- 1:22:20luxury of just like playing whatever at any given moment.
- 1:22:27It seems that I need to be just careful and not tribalize but
- 1:22:32invest for a periodic of time while also saying like, hey, yo,
- 1:22:38like I'm I'm really just having fun on this game.
- 1:22:40But that doesn't mean like, Oh yeah, I'm just having fun on
- 1:22:42this game. OK, yeah, I'm bored of this
- 1:22:43right now. Let's just go Jem crapper, you
- 1:22:46know, like an hour and just like chitchat and yap, which I mean,
- 1:22:49I never really thought about. And I do like that idea.
- 1:22:51Maybe that is something that I could you know, I'm just talking
- 1:22:56out loud could do, but I just have to be a little careful just
- 1:23:03because of what I do when I game and how I game and also just to
- 1:23:09keep chat good, right. You know, it's it's it's hard.
- 1:23:12We're dealing with a lot of people now.
- 1:23:14There's a there's a lot of people in the community.
- 1:23:15I think if there's anything I've learned through, you know,
- 1:23:21jumping between wow and and old school this last year, it's you
- 1:23:26just got to do what is going to make you the the happiest of
- 1:23:31this, like the most cliche fucking thing ever.
- 1:23:33But like if you do that, then your core audience is going to
- 1:23:37be there. Like it's, you know you can't.
- 1:23:40You're, you're 100% right, and and that's why I chose streaming
- 1:23:45because it's what I wanted to do and that's why I chose to step
- 1:23:47away from Runescape because that's what I wanted to do
- 1:23:50right? And I, I have to make sure that
- 1:23:52I'm like, I am happy. And again, like it does sound
- 1:23:56the energy I'm giving off is like, yes, most likely I am
- 1:24:01leaving Runescape indefinitely. I, I don't see how I could
- 1:24:05return, but that's not off the table because, well, if you
- 1:24:09asked me if I was going to play Runescape three months ago, I'd
- 1:24:12say you're out of your mind. And guess what?
- 1:24:13I end up spending over thousands of hours.
- 1:24:17I, I don't even know how many day, how many hours I had on the
- 1:24:19game. Damn near.
- 1:24:20I think over probably 1000, at least some crazy amount over the
- 1:24:25past 90 days, you know, so like it's not ever off the realm of
- 1:24:30impossible. I even told people I enjoy the
- 1:24:33idea of coming back for sailing. I think I might come back for
- 1:24:37sailing and do that thing. But as far as like a
- 1:24:40consistency, I'm not too sure. I I see myself maybe just
- 1:24:44checking out sailing with everyone and being like, yo,
- 1:24:46this is crazy. Let's just do like a weekend D
- 1:24:48Gen. and see what we can do with it or something like that.
- 1:24:53But I I'm just going to, I'm just kind of following the wind
- 1:24:56and just trying to bunk on. Amen.
- 1:25:02That's it's a good, it's a good path, I'd say for you.
- 1:25:06But yeah, man, I don't want to keep you too long because we've
- 1:25:10been talking for about an hour and a half of this recording,
- 1:25:12so. I'm loving it, dude.
- 1:25:13Dude, it's a ton of fun, Yeah. Thank you for talking with me
- 1:25:17about all of it. It's, it's super cool seeing
- 1:25:19like a whole different perspective because I mean, you
- 1:25:22obviously you approach content creation and gaming in a very
- 1:25:25different way than a lot of people do.
- 1:25:27So very insightful kind of hearing your perspective on
- 1:25:31everything. So it's awesome.
- 1:25:33Really appreciate you telling me all about it.
- 1:25:35Dude, I, I appreciate you inviting me.
- 1:25:37I, I love talking about this stuff.
- 1:25:40So I'm just honored, you know, I'm just honored, Jimmy.
- 1:25:43I'm just honored. Beautiful.
- 1:25:45I'm glad you're honored. That's awesome.
- 1:25:48It's, you know, we're teammates, man.
- 1:25:50We're fucking yellow party hat guys, yellow team, whatever.
- 1:25:53We were, yeah. We stick together a big thank
- 1:25:56you once again to show back for finding time to talk with me.
- 1:25:59I, I really do hope that our conversation kind of revealed a
- 1:26:02few more paths for him to take with Runescape down the road.
- 1:26:06At the end of the day, you know, it's what makes him happy.
- 1:26:10It is kind of funny that he's getting into New World
- 1:26:12considering I think there was announcement the day of
- 1:26:14recording this, that New World is probably going to be shutting
- 1:26:17down after 2026. They just revealed that they're,
- 1:26:20you know, putting all the expansions of stuff out for
- 1:26:23free. So that really sucks.
- 1:26:25Hopefully, you know, Showbag doesn't get too attached because
- 1:26:29that, you know, New World had its days, but you know, it's not
- 1:26:32the best time to get into it and get invested now, I would say.
- 1:26:35But you know, hopefully Showbag does find some sort of
- 1:26:38motivation down the road to come back.
- 1:26:40You know, that's we could just be hopeful.
- 1:26:42And if not, then that's cool too.
- 1:26:43He had a great time over here. It was awesome watching him.
- 1:26:47There was thousands of hours of show back gameplay that occurred
- 1:26:50in old school Runescape that people got to watch for free,
- 1:26:53and that's awesome. I'm glad he gave it a shot.
- 1:26:56So hopefully he'll he'll come back for more later.
- 1:26:58Next episode I talk with a streamer that started the
- 1:27:02ultimate domino effect across Twitch, the original Wow
- 1:27:05streamer that took the shot and tried old school Runescape.
- 1:27:08Because sure, you can trace one more domino back to mad season
- 1:27:13show starting, you know his Runescape journey and then you
- 1:27:16know sure you can even go one more domino back and trace it
- 1:27:21back to me, inspiring mad season.
- 1:27:23Who inspired this guy? But let's be real for a second.
- 1:27:28If this guy never tried old school, these interviews would
- 1:27:32never be happening. We're talking with goo zoo.
- 1:27:34See you soon.
