  This coming week , August 17th through the 21st , is shaping up to be a real gamechanger for our portfolios .

  The big story right now is the resilient American consumer .

  We have seen interest rates stabilize at a neutral 3.25 percent thanks to the Federal Reserve , and everyone is watching to see if we can really stick this soft landing .

  The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust , or SPY as we like to call it , has already climbed 4 percent over the last month , so we might see things settle down just a bit this week as investors catch their breath .

  Looking at the calendar , we have two massive events to watch .

  First , on Tuesday , August 18th , we get the July Retail Sales report .

  We are looking for a 0.3 percent increase .

  If we beat that number , it is going to be great news for the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF , or VTI , because it proves that even with some household debt , people are still out there spending .

  Then on Wednesday , August 19th , we get the FOMC minutes .

  If the Fed sounds a bit more hawkish , or cautious about cutting , it could put some pressure on our growth favorites like the Invesco QQQ Trust .

  We are seeing a shift from just talking about AI to actually showing the return on investment .
