- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's CJ Wilson here with Dope Talk. FSU lose
- 0:02Speaker 1: in a double overtime thriller to the Miami Hurricanes, 43-35.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I know you guys probably just watched the game. Wanted
- 0:10Speaker 1: to kind of do a little quick recap and discuss it.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Crazy game, especially how it ended. FSU actually scored a
- 0:16Speaker 1: touchdown on the fourth and 20 heave to the end zone.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Amazing play by Makai Dansley to go over the defender
- 0:23Speaker 1: and make a catch and a big-time play on the ball.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Head top, as the kids called it. But the refs
- 0:29Speaker 1: called it back on the Phantom Hole call. It was
- 0:32Speaker 1: clear that the ACC made that call down to the
- 0:35Speaker 1: officials to protect the brand, the biggest playoff brand in
- 0:38Speaker 1: the Miami Hurricanes, because ain't no way in hell.
- 0:41Speaker 2: No way in hell.
- 0:42Speaker 1: If you guys saw that play, everyone is pretty much
- 0:44Speaker 1: talking about it right now as far as the Phantom
- 0:46Speaker 1: Hole and call.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It was BS.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm not sure if FSU gets the two-point conversion or not.
- 0:52Speaker 1: But we definitely deserve to see them go forward, especially
- 0:54Speaker 1: how that play played out. The kid wasn't even rushing.
- 0:57Speaker 1: The quarterback was not a factor in the play, wasn't
- 1:00Speaker 1: a hole at all. So, unfortunately, the refs did take
- 1:02Speaker 1: that away from FSU. Can't blame the game on that,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but that was just a terrible call within that situation.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And also on the following play, it looks like Deuce
- 1:11Speaker 1: caught the damn touchdown.
- 1:12Speaker 2: On the last play after the penalty, too.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So, again, right after the next play, pretty– Usually when
- 1:23Speaker 1: you have those 50-50 balls, when both the offense and
- 1:25Speaker 1: the defender have their hands on the ball, it usually
- 1:27Speaker 1: goes in the offense's favor. But nonetheless, like I said,
- 1:29Speaker 1: the ACC definitely had to protect their biggest playoff brand
- 1:32Speaker 1: and made that call. That was ridiculous, especially the holding call. Man,
- 1:35Speaker 1: that was ridiculous. Really hate for those guys. Want to
- 1:38Speaker 1: give a real quick shout-out to Ustman Cromer. Really hate
- 1:41Speaker 1: to see how that play went down, especially to a
- 1:44Speaker 1: kid like him.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Real big fan of his.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Went on the first half with what looks like a
- 1:48Speaker 1: pretty bad ankle injury after steamrolling the Miami defender. Ran
- 1:53Speaker 1: over a Miami defender on his way to the end zone,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and the guy kind of got behind him in one
- 1:56Speaker 1: of those flute kind of plays a little bit as
- 2:01Speaker 1: far as the contact situation, how you land. He ended
- 2:05Speaker 1: up getting rolled up on, you know, body weight on
- 2:07Speaker 1: top of his ankle and, you know, the rest is history.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Looks like it was a paring ankle injury, was, you know,
- 2:14Speaker 1: carted off the field and that type of deal.
- 2:16Speaker 2: So prayers out to Oos. Really hate to see a
- 2:18Speaker 2: man big time playmaker.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But in my opinion, this ball game really shouldn't even
- 2:22Speaker 1: came down to an overtime situation for Florida State to
- 2:26Speaker 1: get to that point where the ref can take the
- 2:28Speaker 1: game away from you. I think the ball game truly
- 2:31Speaker 1: came down to FSU having two drives within the five-yard
- 2:34Speaker 1: line and coming away with zero points within those two drives.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Just lack of awareness by Mike Norvell as far as
- 2:40Speaker 1: the type of roster he has.
- 2:42Speaker 2: In my opinion. It's truly crazy. Don't have Jurgen Notts
- 2:45Speaker 2: up front. like you don't.
- 2:46Speaker 1: He calls plays in certain situations, especially in those fourth
- 2:50Speaker 1: and short goal line situations like you just have Bulldogs
- 2:53Speaker 1: up front. You're recruiting amazingly from a Trent standpoint, just
- 2:57Speaker 1: nasty guys that can move the offensive line in the
- 3:02Speaker 1: physical situation, the one-on-one situation up front, and it just
- 3:05Speaker 1: doesn't work.
- 3:06Speaker 2: We don't recruit those type of guys.
- 3:07Speaker 1: That fourth and three play call, like I said, both
- 3:10Speaker 1: of those drives, the first one I kind of understand
- 3:12Speaker 1: as far as going forward, it's just you've got to
- 3:15Speaker 1: take points in certain situations, right? You've got to take
- 3:17Speaker 1: points in certain situations. I think in this game, at
- 3:20Speaker 1: that point in time, the defense was playing well enough,
- 3:21Speaker 1: and you knew just knowing your defense and how Tony
- 3:25Speaker 1: White's defense had played since he's been hired, at some
- 3:29Speaker 1: point in time, they're going to give us something big,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and the opposing offense is going to get going.
- 3:33Speaker 2: So you do want to take advantage of the points.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But again, that fourth and three, I have no clue
- 3:37Speaker 1: why you run the football on that second fourth down playoff.
- 3:43Speaker 1: conversion attempt in fourth and three situation you run the football.
- 3:46Speaker 1: If you're going to go for it, you have to
- 3:48Speaker 1: pass in that situation. In my opinion, you should have
- 3:53Speaker 1: kicked the field goal. And I knew Norvell was going
- 3:55Speaker 1: for it because you could see he was setting up
- 3:57Speaker 1: his third down play. It was a set up for
- 3:58Speaker 1: fourth down. It was a conservative third down play just
- 4:02Speaker 1: to see how many yards you would get. I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: he only gained one yard on that third down attempt.
- 4:06Speaker 1: At that point in time, you would think, okay, it's
- 4:09Speaker 1: fourth and three. Let's take these points. But no, we
- 4:10Speaker 1: end up going for it again and running the football.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I mean, the last week against Louisville when you went
- 4:18Speaker 1: for it in the fourth down, you should have ran
- 4:20Speaker 1: it then because you were very successful against Louisville as
- 4:23Speaker 1: far as moving their front.
- 4:24Speaker 2: You've got to read the room a little bit.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Instead of running a play action, receiver screen out to
- 4:27Speaker 1: the side, there's a defense time to react.
- 4:30Speaker 2: You should have ran the ball in that situation.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Fast forward here, this is a situation where if you're
- 4:34Speaker 1: going to go for it, we should have took the
- 4:35Speaker 1: points rather for sure this time. But if you are
- 4:38Speaker 1: going to go for it, you will want to get
- 4:41Speaker 1: rid of the football or throw the football to not
- 4:43Speaker 1: be in a running situation because you weren't really able
- 4:46Speaker 1: to move Miami's front all game. The plays of the
- 4:50Speaker 1: running backs in the run game that we did, it
- 4:52Speaker 1: was more so the running backs making the play. And
- 4:54Speaker 1: especially at that point in time, those guys had their
- 4:56Speaker 1: ears pinned for the situation. We just don't recruit to
- 4:59Speaker 1: that level. They do a good job in the trenches
- 5:00Speaker 1: of recruiting for Miami, and we just don't match up
- 5:03Speaker 1: within that situation. So you got to get creative in
- 5:05Speaker 1: your play call. We weren't in a situation to play
- 5:08Speaker 1: bully ball with them, so I really think those two
- 5:10Speaker 1: possessions within the five-yard line come away with zero points.
- 5:14Speaker 2: It hurt us in a lot of ways.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Again, you've got to get points in those situations, especially.
- 5:19Speaker 2: The last one.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I don't understand going forward on the fourth and three,
- 5:21Speaker 1: especially running the football. If you're going to go forward,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you've got to throw it in that situation.
- 5:29Speaker 2: The talk of the game is going to.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Be on the ACC rest on that family holding call,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and rightfully so because it was a bad call that
- 5:36Speaker 1: took away an opportunity from Florida State. amazing play from
- 5:39Speaker 1: makai danzy but i think norvell should get questioned with
- 5:43Speaker 1: this decision making within those situations because he coaches like
- 5:47Speaker 1: he has all americans up front neck and his move
- 5:50Speaker 1: guys just at third but again we don't recruit to
- 5:53Speaker 1: that level we don't have that type of talent on
- 5:55Speaker 1: the roster to put ourselves in that situation you got
- 5:58Speaker 1: to take points especially against a team like miami on
- 6:02Speaker 1: the road you got to take points for presenting himself
- 6:04Speaker 1: to go Two drives within the five-yard line and to
- 6:08Speaker 1: come away with zero, that's tough. I think Ashley Daniels
- 6:12Speaker 1: had a pretty nice game. Had over 300 yards passing,
- 6:15Speaker 1: even though I still felt he left a lot of
- 6:17Speaker 1: plays on the field. Deuce, this is what we've been
- 6:20Speaker 1: asking for. This is what we've been asking for. We
- 6:22Speaker 1: said a big-time show of passion. This is what we've
- 6:25Speaker 1: been asking for.
- 6:26Speaker 2: We saw it. Good job, Deuce, man.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Defense, still too much, man. Gave up 583 total yards
- 6:31Speaker 1: with 257 yards rushing. way too much. We folded down
- 6:38Speaker 1: the stretch of the game and just gave up some easy,
- 6:40Speaker 1: petty touchdowns for Miami. Now granted, they did get a
- 6:43Speaker 1: stop with like two minutes left when Miami was kind
- 6:47Speaker 1: of driving to try to win the game for the
- 6:48Speaker 1: game on the drive. But again, 257 rushing yards. We
- 6:52Speaker 1: clearly are who we are defensively, and it's truly an issue.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Truly an issue. We say we got to get better,
- 6:59Speaker 1: but we are who we are at this point in
- 7:00Speaker 1: the season. This Tony White's defense isn't in a certain situation.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Those guys played good for an extended period of time,
- 7:07Speaker 1: but it was only a matter of time. As you
- 7:08Speaker 1: guys know before, we ended up doing what we do
- 7:12Speaker 1: and giving up a bunch of chunk plays, especially in
- 7:15Speaker 1: the running game.
- 7:17Speaker 2: 257 yards is just way too much.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I hate the way we lose, especially going to double
- 7:23Speaker 1: overtime against Miami and then coming down to that play.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But again, I truly believe the sequences that kind of
- 7:31Speaker 1: cost Florida State the game. This pretty much has been
- 7:34Speaker 1: Mike Norvell throughout his tenure at certain points in time.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It's Mike Norvell doing Mike Norvell things.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I told you guys before, I think this team is
- 7:42Speaker 1: a 9-1 team from a talent standpoint.
- 7:44Speaker 2: It's talent on his roster as you guys can see.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Of course, we've got some injuries and losing oofs definitely
- 7:49Speaker 1: hurt things in the second half, but it's talent on
- 7:51Speaker 1: his roster for sure. I believe it's a 9-1 roster,
- 7:53Speaker 1: but when you factor coaching into things like that, coaching decisions,
- 7:57Speaker 1: it takes away a couple wins. That's where you have
- 8:01Speaker 1: a 5-7 result in that type of deal.
- 8:03Speaker 2: So I truly believe From a talent.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Standpoint, nine wins with, again, Mike Norvell doing Mike Norvell
- 8:10Speaker 1: things and not being able to get out of his
- 8:11Speaker 1: own way has caused Florida State in certain situations. Two
- 8:15Speaker 1: drives within a five-yard line and to come away with
- 8:19Speaker 1: zero points, there's no excuse for that at all.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Have to be better in those situations.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Have to gauge or roster better in those situations in
- 8:26Speaker 1: regards to what they could do from a physical standpoint.
- 8:30Speaker 1: You can't call plays like you have. the damn 90s
- 8:33Speaker 1: Cowboys and that type of deal, or the 90s Seminoles
- 8:35Speaker 1: for that matter. We don't have those type of hogs
- 8:39Speaker 1: up front, and Miami recruits those type of hogs up front.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It's built for that situation. To run it on fourth
- 8:44Speaker 1: and three is just irresponsible, in my opinion. But again,
- 8:46Speaker 1: Fennel Hall called to save the frontrunners for the ACC.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Really hate it, man, because that was a crazy play
- 8:53Speaker 1: by Mekhi Danz on the fourth and 20 to force, well,
- 8:57Speaker 1: not necessarily force anything, but to kind of give those
- 8:59Speaker 1: guys a chance to tie Miami down. With a two-point conversion.
- 9:02Speaker 1: But again, a loss is a loss. FSU ended up
- 9:06Speaker 1: losing 43-35. Fall to the Miami Hurricanes. Again, that road
- 9:09Speaker 1: streak continues. Haven't won a true road game since 2023.
- 9:14Speaker 2: The UF game. Tough. FSU falls to 3-4 in the season.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Miss you guys.

- 9:22Speaker 1: in with Dope Talk. Got you guys covered for anything
- 9:23Speaker 1: that could be coming for FSU.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Go Nuggets.
