- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? My mommy used to tell me the
- 0:11story about the Jackrabbit and the Box Turtle.
- 0:13Jack Rabbit is a real Dick and he brags all the time, says
- 0:16nobody's faster than him. And well, it's true, because
- 0:18every time the Jackrabbit races, he always wins.
- 0:21Whole fucking force has to put up with this shit day in and day
- 0:24out. The fucker always wants to race
- 0:26just so he can rub it in some more.
- 0:27So the Box Turtle figures. Why not?
- 0:30I'll give it a try, The Jackrabbit laughs.
- 0:32This will be fun. So let's fucking go.
- 0:34Jackrabbit leaves the Box Turtle in the fucking dusk.
- 0:37It's way out in front. Jackrabbit always wins, but the
- 0:41Jackrabbit wants to put on a show, so he stops to make it
- 0:44seem close and takes a nap, but he sleeps longer than he wanted
- 0:48to. By the time he wakes up, I mean
- 0:50he knows he's fucked and the Jackrabbit goes full tilt, but
- 0:53it's too late and the Box Turtle crosses the finish line and the
- 0:56crowd whoosh goes fucking wild. Later that night, the box
- 1:01turtles having dinner with his family, he's telling those
- 1:03little box turtles how he did it.
- 1:05I mean, you never give up. I just keep crawling forwards
- 1:09and you can overcome just about anything.
- 1:13The door smashes in. It's the Jack rabbit and he has
- 1:16a hammer. He smashes up the wife and kids
- 1:19spurs so the box turtle has to watch him die and then it's his
- 1:22turn. Once the whole family is broken
- 1:24into little pieces, he sits down and eats their dinner every last
- 1:27bite, 'cause the jackrabbit always wins.
- 1:32Your mother told you that story. Welcome to What's your least
- 1:35favorite scary movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 1:38the good, the bad, the ugly, and the absurd.
- 1:41And all of our favorite. And least favorite scary movies.
- 1:43Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 1:46base, even if we don't always get it.
- 1:48My name is Travis, my name is Jesse, and I did that monologue
- 1:51in one track. Yeah, I was.
- 1:53I wasn't expecting that. But boy, boy, how do you did it.
- 1:56I'm proud of you. I'm glad you picked up on the
- 1:58the finishing line. Yeah, we did that twice today.
- 2:01We did that with our 2B or not to be as well.
- 2:05Cool. All right, Good job, man.
- 2:06All right, let's kick this thing off.
- 2:08So if you're not familiar with what that story's from, that's
- 2:11from 20 Twenty's the Hunt and that's what we'll be talking
- 2:14about. That's right.
- 2:16But first, the only announcement I have is that on Sunday we
- 2:20released our monthly 2B or Not To Be episode.
- 2:23We took another visit to Trombeville and we talked about
- 2:26the class of Newcomb High. So yeah, fun, weird little movie
- 2:30that we had there. And it was a weird time learned
- 2:34about, you know, how birthing happens.
- 2:37Yeah, Travis got like a really good biology education.
- 2:40We got a sex education going on there, folks, so if you need
- 2:42some, you need some teaching there.
- 2:44Go on over there. We got you covered.
- 2:46But all right. Was that all you got for that?
- 2:49Yes. OK, cool.
- 2:50Well, I've got our poll results. OK, so last week we talked about
- 2:53Green Room and we wanted to know which of the desert island bands
- 2:58that they ain't rights had did you guys like the best.
- 3:01And the options were Misfits, Steely Dan Simon and Garfunkel
- 3:07and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
- 3:10Good job I've had it written down right here, so I cheated.
- 3:14But you know, I I'm still proud of you.
- 3:16Thank you. Thank you.
- 3:17So let's start off on Twitter. Our band there that won was
- 3:23Misfits, so they had a vote of 50%.
- 3:26Steely Dan had zero, Simon and Garfunkel had 25 and Creedence
- 3:30Clearwater Revival had 25. Over on Instagram, Misfits had
- 3:3627%, Steely Dan had 7%, Simon and Garfunkel had 33 and
- 3:41Creedence. Clearwater Revival had 33.
- 3:43So tie between Simon and Garfunkel and had Creedence just
- 3:48say CCR. Ccr people abbreviate.
- 3:51It oh, OK. I guess I'm not like a CCR head.
- 3:54So is that what they call themselves?
- 3:57The fan club over there? Oh my God.
- 3:59I don't know. I don't know.
- 4:00That's the band that I would choose.
- 4:02Like if I Yeah, I guess so. It's between them and Misfits.
- 4:05I've been getting into the Misfits here lately.
- 4:07And yeah, I like both of them pretty much equally.
- 4:12CCR for me. Yeah, obviously.
- 4:14OK, yeah, I know you're a big fan of that too.
- 4:17Okay. Cool.
- 4:17All right, well, that's our polls, so let's get on into our
- 4:21episode on the Hunt. All right, what you got for us,
- 4:24Jesse? So The Hunt, originally
- 4:27scheduled to be released September 27th, 2019, got pushed
- 4:31back to March 13th, 2020. I have a little bit more
- 4:34information on that coming up in The Fun Facts.
- 4:36OK, we watched it on Blu-ray, but as of today you can stream
- 4:42it on Peacock or rent it from YouTube, Google Play, Redbox,
- 4:46Voodoo or Prime. Written by Nick Kuse and Damon
- 4:50Lindelof. Directed by Craig Zobal.
- 4:53Music by Nathan Barr and special effects Makeup done by
- 4:56autonomous effects. Autonomous.
- 4:58Nice. Starring now I went with the
- 5:02people that lasted the longest. Slash had the most lines.
- 5:05Like, first for Todd Billing. Yeah, this is a very stacked
- 5:10cast. It is.
- 5:11A lot of them don't last long. Yeah, a lot of people don't last
- 5:14long. But I I That's how I tried to
- 5:17pick who to put as the starring roles.
- 5:20Betty Gilpin is Crystal. Hilary Swank is Athena.
- 5:24Wayne Duvall is Don. Ethan Soupley is Shut the fuck
- 5:28up, Gary. Amy Madigan is MA Read, Bernie
- 5:33is Pop, and Glenn Howerton is Richard.
- 5:36Now I want you guys to know that they're actually credited as Don
- 5:39and Shut the fuck up, Gary. Shut.
- 5:41The fuck up, Gary in the credits.
- 5:42I love it, man. Yeah.
- 5:44And the other one, Stu had an interesting name.
- 5:46Sue, right? Yeah, we had Sturgill Simpson.
- 5:49Is vanilla. Nice.
- 5:50Vanilla. Nice.
- 5:51Yes, Ike. Baron Holtz is.
- 5:53He's Staten Island. OK.
- 5:55Yeah, the other girl that's with them at the gas station, the
- 5:58woman with them, she's Big Red. Mmhmm.
- 6:01Emma Roberts is yoga pants. Yoga pants.
- 6:04The woman that falls into the spike pit twice.
- 6:07She's dead sexy. Dead sexy, OK, yeah, her shirt's
- 6:10so sexy. Oh, OK.
- 6:12Dead sexy. God, that's so cool.
- 6:14Yeah, so they had a lot of fun with this.
- 6:17Like Ma and Pop, they have like actual names, but this is how
- 6:20they're credited on IMDb is by the characters they play in it.
- 6:24Megan Blair, he's phone boy FAUXNVOY.
- 6:29Instead of being a convoy, he's a phone boy.
- 6:32I yeah, I like that. Yeah, it's clever, man.
- 6:34Yeah, they had a lot of fun with it, yeah.
- 6:36Not clever, I guess, but just fun.
- 6:38Yeah, yeah, they had fun with it and now it's time for our
- 6:41favorite. Budget or butted?
- 6:45What do you think Jez? I it's Blum house, so they're
- 6:52notoriously bug Ted. So I'm gonna go bug Ted.
- 6:54Actually they are just this side of budget.
- 6:57Really. Yeah, 14,000,000.
- 6:58Okay. Cool, yeah.
- 7:00The numbers get a little squeaky here and part.
- 7:03Of that, yeah. Part of that is because of the
- 7:06pandemic, yeah. Affected their theatrical
- 7:10releases. So there was home streaming and
- 7:15so opening box office was 5.3 million.
- 7:18I feel good with that number because it was like that weekend
- 7:21it was able to go for about 3 days before shutdowns happened
- 7:26and they released it to streaming it.
- 7:27Was like twoish, I think, right? Because like we saw it on the
- 7:30Friday. Which I guess Thursday would
- 7:34have been. You could watch it at night
- 7:36Friday, you could watch it all day, cuz we had a like early
- 7:38showing on Friday. And then Saturday the world shut
- 7:41down. Yeah, so now it was the only two
- 7:42days I think. Yeah, it was like 3 days after
- 7:44release is when they decided to put it make it available on home
- 7:47streaming. OK, I got you.
- 7:49So on IMDb it says the worldwide gross is 10.5 million, but on
- 7:55Wikipedia they've got a little bit more details because there's
- 7:58a lot more money, like broken down from different countries
- 8:02and stuff, and it says it's 42.8 million.
- 8:05OK, that's a whole lot better, yeah.
- 8:06And just based on, like the way it's broken down in the
- 8:08Wikipedia article, I'm more inclined to believe that one.
- 8:11Yeah, but it's just weird because normally, like, what's
- 8:14on IMDb and what's on Wikipedia and like other places that you
- 8:17can search, like, all generally match.
- 8:20And that's a that's a bigger disparity than I would expect,
- 8:23currently sitting at a 6.5 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 8:26Okay solid. Not bad.
- 8:29I picked 3 movies from 2020. I was unsure of what I was gonna
- 8:34be able to find, but I found ones that we've actually seen
- 8:37all three of. Them okay cool.
- 8:38So the first one's spree. Okay That was released August
- 8:4314th, 2020, so it's coming up on his three-year birthday.
- 8:46The movie's still. That old?
- 8:48I can't believe it came out in 2020.
- 8:50I know, yeah. So that.
- 8:53I couldn't find any budget information on that, but I'm
- 8:56pretty sure that's a low budget. Yeah, definitely.
- 8:58With the way that they filmed it and just the people involved,
- 9:01they have Steve Harrington, which is like their big get.
- 9:04Oh, and fucking Dewey. Oh yeah, I forgot, David.
- 9:08David Arquette. Yeah, he's in there.
- 9:10He's like his dad or something. Yeah, yeah, I completely forgot
- 9:12about. That man, I forgot about that
- 9:13too. OK, decent enough cast.
- 9:14Yeah, it's a pretty it's a pretty good movie.
- 9:16Yeah, it is actually. I enjoyed it, Dad, because it
- 9:21was not a theatrical release. It's worldwide gross is at
- 9:2450,000. OK, and it has a 5.9 out of 10
- 9:28on IMDb. That, yeah.
- 9:30I mean, it's it's a surprisingly good movie, honestly.
- 9:33You bought it for us on DVD because they had it on DVD at
- 9:37Dollar Tree and we just watched it and like, oh shit, yeah, it
- 9:39was one of those. And I was like, I've heard of
- 9:40this and it was a dollar, so. Might as well at that point,
- 9:44yeah. It was worth it for sure. 2nd
- 9:46movie very specifically tied to COVID.
- 9:51It's called Host. It's the yeah, we're all on a
- 9:55zoom call and it lasts. It ends after 40 minutes because
- 9:59of. The freeze is it 60?
- 10:01Was it 40? It was for.
- 10:02I'm pretty sure it's 40. OK, I remember it was like a
- 10:04fairly short movie. But yeah, because it was perfect
- 10:07for it to be a zoom call. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:10So that was released July 30th, 2020.
- 10:14Again, I couldn't find budget because it it just came straight
- 10:17out into a shutter. Yeah, it did, Yeah.
- 10:20And it did make a worldwide gross of 445,000 and it has a
- 10:256.5 out of 10 on IMDb. It's good.
- 10:29I don't know. Would you call it a novelty at
- 10:31this point? I think it's a more adult
- 10:35version of like Unfriended. It kind of is.
- 10:38It's just the whole thing is like COVID, you know, cuz like I
- 10:42think it was, that one had a lot more impact in the moment.
- 10:46I don't know if they will hit the same.
- 10:47If I watched it today, yeah, it definitely like it.
- 10:51It felt like Unfriended meets COVID because it was very much
- 10:55playing on that. Like we've all been super
- 10:56isolated and not just like from each like in real life.
- 11:00It hit where you know the way we can all talk to each other is
- 11:03basically through zoom. Exactly, yeah.
- 11:05But also like, this is how we're watching Movies Now, is we're
- 11:09streaming at home. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:11No, it was good for the time for sure.
- 11:14I don't know it's. I'd say it's definitely worth
- 11:17checking out if you haven't watched.
- 11:18It, yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 11:19And then the third, maybe we actually were just talking about
- 11:22that earlier this week. Freaky.
- 11:25Oh, wow. OK.
- 11:26Yeah. Yeah, that was released November
- 11:2913th 2020 That had a budget of 5 million and a worldwide gross of
- 11:3618,000,000 and has a 6.5 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 11:41That's one I need to rewatch, I think mostly because, like,
- 11:46there's a lot of it. I just don't remember.
- 11:48But yeah, I'm also just kind of wanting to check out more of was
- 11:53it Chris Landon? Is that his name?
- 11:55Yeah. Christopher Landon, Yeah,
- 11:55because he's taking over the Scream franchise now.
- 11:58He's going to do Scream 7, which is cool.
- 12:00So. And I think that's actually why
- 12:01we're talking about. It.
- 12:02Yeah, it was. Yeah.
- 12:02Yeah. OK.
- 12:05All right, nice, nice little batch of movies there in 2020,
- 12:07even though it was a disaster of a year for theatrical.
- 12:11Releases all right. We have one tagline and it
- 12:15pisses me off. What is it?
- 12:18The most talked about movie of the year is one that no one has
- 12:20actually seen. I get it.
- 12:24I get it. They were playing off of the
- 12:26novelty of the controversy surrounding this movie.
- 12:31But like. Yeah, I think everybody at this
- 12:33point knows my stance on movies being like taglines, being like
- 12:39many reviews of a movie. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:42It's not really about the movie itself.
- 12:43It's about the controversy surrounding it.
- 12:46Yeah. Yeah, cuz that was why I got the
- 12:48way originally, right? We'll get into that, surely,
- 12:51Yeah. Well, I can go ahead and get
- 12:52into that, cuz it's time for fun facts.
- 12:54Those are only tagline. OK.
- 12:55Sure. Go ahead.
- 12:56So they kind of flip flops on the release date a little bit.
- 13:00It was September 27th, and then they pushed it back to October
- 13:0318th and then pushed it back to September 27th.
- 13:06The marketing was really kind of like getting some people up in
- 13:09arms, you know, about it. And especially because rumors
- 13:13were that the working title was Red State versus Blue State,
- 13:17which is pretty politically charged.
- 13:19Blum House has said that this was never the working title.
- 13:24Could it be true? Could it be a CYA moment on Blum
- 13:26Houses part? I don't really know.
- 13:28But what actually ended up delaying the movie was that
- 13:34there was multiple mass shootings, but specifically the
- 13:37ones in Dayton and. Think New Mexico, El Paso.
- 13:42OK. Those happened so close to the
- 13:46release date and so close to one another that they made the
- 13:49decision to stop marketing the movie and they just kind of
- 13:52quietly pulled it from their release schedule.
- 13:54Yeah, I remember that being something which I don't fully
- 13:58understand because I don't really feel like that has
- 14:00anything to do with this movie at all.
- 14:02Yeah, but like, it was a lot of the way it was being marketed
- 14:06and perceived by people as a very politically charged.
- 14:09And I think unfortunately there's so much politics that
- 14:15comes along with a tragedy, like a mass shooting.
- 14:18I can see it from the studio standpoint, ironically enough,
- 14:21considering the the crux of what causes the action of this movie
- 14:26to happen that, like for optics reasons, they pulled it.
- 14:29Yeah, but what actually ended up getting it brought back to the
- 14:33theaters was that the Joker had some controversy surrounding it
- 14:38as well, and it ended up being a very successful release.
- 14:42So they decided that they were just going to release it in
- 14:45March. That's true.
- 14:46I mean, the Joker's whole thing was like about an insole that
- 14:49just goes, you know, snaps and goes after people in society.
- 14:53And then, yeah, like, I could see, Yeah, I mean, I guess,
- 14:56like, I understand. But at the same time like.
- 15:00It's just a movie, yeah. And they did revamp their
- 15:03marketing when they decided that they were going to release it
- 15:06later on. And a lot of people thought that
- 15:08they took that time to make adjustments to the movie.
- 15:11But Jason Blum has said in interviews that, like, not a
- 15:13single frame of the movie was changed in that time.
- 15:16Good. Cuz I I love the movie as it is.
- 15:19Yeah. And like, because I watched the
- 15:21bonus features this morning and they were very clear, like right
- 15:24from the very beginning that they like, they wanted to write
- 15:27a fun movie, but they also wanted to address like, politics
- 15:31on both sides of the spectrum and essentially how we're like
- 15:36devouring each other. And everybody, everybody that
- 15:42was interviewed was just like absolutely delightful.
- 15:45Like the people that were involved in the writing,
- 15:48directing and production of. It just seemed like wonderful
- 15:50people. They were so kind on the on the
- 15:54footage. That's good.
- 15:55I'm glad that, you know, good people wrote it.
- 15:57I mean, and it it's just, it's good to make fun of people.
- 16:01Yeah, Like. Like everybody, You know what I
- 16:03mean? Like everybody needs like a
- 16:04little jabbing every now and then just to.
- 16:07Remind them how silly they act? Yeah, and I'm a person that
- 16:11definitely like healing through humor.
- 16:14Yeah, yeah, it like, it is kind of, you know, a nice way to be
- 16:19like. So in addition to all of that
- 16:25being important to them, they also like costuming was really
- 16:29important to how they wanted to do the storytelling like it.
- 16:31Nothing that they did was intent, like unintentional.
- 16:34They wanted the clothing to tell, like a story of who that
- 16:38person is. Like you see Emma Roberts, you
- 16:40instantly know what her thing is, you know what type of, like,
- 16:44conservative person she is, right?
- 16:47Crystal's whole thing was that she they wanted her to look like
- 16:51somebody whose interest and effort in fashion ended in the
- 16:5590s. So that's why she's got like
- 16:57kind of that design on her shirt and why the cuts are the way
- 17:00they are with her, like the fit of her clothing.
- 17:02I could see that. That's why, like when we see the
- 17:06liberals and their fatigues, the fatigues are super clean and
- 17:10well pressed because like we're pointing out, like they haven't
- 17:13actually used these, like. It is literally a costume and
- 17:17outfit that they're putting on. I like that.
- 17:19That's cool, yeah. They made sure that the ending
- 17:23was a nod to the ending of Animal Farm.
- 17:25Because the ending of Animal Farm, like all of the pigs, are
- 17:28inside the barn, standing on 2 feet drinking a beer while the
- 17:31other animals are outside looking into the barn.
- 17:33I'd never actually read Animal Farm God.
- 17:35Not familiar at all, but this is how they described it in the
- 17:38bonus and you know, and they said that's what happens with
- 17:42crystal. Is that like at the end of the
- 17:44movie, she puts on Athena's clothing and she gets onto the
- 17:48jet and she's having that champagne and she's sharing it
- 17:50with the flight attendant? Right.
- 17:53OK, Yeah. The stunt choreographer.
- 17:56I didn't. I'm not 100% sure I got her
- 17:59name. I think I was like Heidi
- 18:00Moneymaker is what it sounded like.
- 18:02Something like that. That's what I ended up writing
- 18:06down. But she gave each of she did the
- 18:10fight scene between Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank, and she wanted
- 18:15to make sure each of their characters had a distinctive
- 18:17fight style. So like, Hillary sank as a
- 18:20person just likes using kicking moves.
- 18:23So they incorporated that a lot with her.
- 18:24That's cool. They said that she was a lot
- 18:26more precise and she was like a found weapons kind of person.
- 18:29So which really tracks with what we see, whereas Crystal's going
- 18:32to be a whatever it takes kind of person.
- 18:34She's like a straight up military that, Yeah.
- 18:36So. And.
- 18:38Kudos to her, like, because whenever I was watching that,
- 18:41anytime I see that fight sequence, I'm like, God damn,
- 18:43whoever choreographed this did an amazing job because it is an
- 18:47amazing fight. Well, and it's not even just
- 18:49that. Like, it's such an amazing
- 18:51choreographed fight, but the set was built specifically for this
- 18:55fight scene. Oh, that's cool.
- 18:56Like, so they built it specifically so they could do
- 18:59everything they wanted to do with it and they could get all
- 19:01of the imagery they wanted to get with it and have like fun
- 19:03with like the setting, right? I like that.
- 19:07I want. And obviously they rehearsed the
- 19:10hell out of this and just filming it took five days.
- 19:13I can only imagine. I mean, they do so many things
- 19:15in that. Yeah, yeah, it's it's great.
- 19:17And filming for them, maybe as a whole, went from February 20th,
- 19:212019 to April 5th, 2019. And it was filmed in New
- 19:25Orleans. Oh wow, OK, this doesn't look
- 19:27like a swampy area. Looks like Croatia pretty well,
- 19:33yeah. And that was like another thing
- 19:35that they talked about with like the the gas station set.
- 19:39They wanted it to look very realistic for like a country
- 19:43store. Like they hand painted the sign.
- 19:44But they also wanted there to be like little hints that like
- 19:48maybe they're not actually in Arkansas.
- 19:49So, like, they had, like, you know, the candy, but they had
- 19:52like boxes stacked in the storage room that said, like
- 19:54American candies. Oh really?
- 19:56Yeah, like little hints and pieces that I haven't caught,
- 19:59but now I don't like. Want to go rewatch it again?
- 20:01That is cool. Yeah.
- 20:02I didn't even think about that. Yeah, shit.
- 20:04Yeah. So they put little details like
- 20:05that throughout. So there was a lot of
- 20:07thoughtfulness that went into this movie.
- 20:09You can tell them in, you can tell that they worked really
- 20:11hard on this one, cuz it's just it's so fucking good.
- 20:15Yeah, OK, cool all. Right.
- 20:17So that brings us into good, bad, ugly, and absurd.
- 20:21Travis. Yep.
- 20:22OK, so I I do like the commentary in this movie.
- 20:26It's not like it's not beating you over the head with it.
- 20:29Like it is present throughout. But I think it's like all
- 20:34surface levels to the point where it's just making fun of
- 20:36like, stupid shit that both sides like, say, which, you
- 20:40know, like, I think it's. I just think it's fun to like
- 20:42even stuff that you agree with. Like you can realize that people
- 20:46are absurd with the way that they behave with it, yeah.
- 20:49And I think climate change is real.
- 20:51I'm not gonna like gas somebody for disagreeing with that.
- 20:56You know, like favorite thing from that is whenever he is in
- 20:59there and he turns on the news, it's like climate change took
- 21:02another hit today and you just hear me.
- 21:04Go. He just turns the TV off.
- 21:07That's just like, that's what I'm talking about right there.
- 21:09It's just so funny. Yeah, climate change is real.
- 21:12And like, yeah, like, it's important to, like, make sure
- 21:15people realize it's real and talk about it.
- 21:17But like. But they really are so fragile
- 21:20in their views, yeah, and that's the thing.
- 21:22About it I like. Also like.
- 21:26There's a lot of wild stuff that the the Hunted people are saying
- 21:30too. Yeah, exactly like you got the
- 21:32guy that you pointed out. Gary.
- 21:34Shut the fuck up, Gary. He's.
- 21:35Clearly an Alex Jones analog. Yeah, exactly.
- 21:38Because like, he's like talking about like, the Crisis Actors
- 21:41and shit like that. And like, I think that stuff
- 21:43right there. Like, I think that they went a
- 21:46little bit more towards like the really hurtful things for like
- 21:49the right side, like Crisis Actors and well, that was
- 21:53actually really just the worst one.
- 21:55Yeah, I I mean, I've spoken about my stance on the crisis,
- 22:00crisis, acting conspiracies. Yeah, I've spoken about that
- 22:03pretty recently. And I think that's a see, The
- 22:06thing is most of the right wing people in this movie get killed
- 22:09off so fast. So you don't get a whole lot of
- 22:11jokes at their expense because like, they all just fucking die.
- 22:14Yeah, like so soon. Which is another thing that I
- 22:17like about this movie is how you have this huge cast of people at
- 22:20the beginning and then you think that they're all going to be so
- 22:23important, but they all get, like, wiped out in, like,
- 22:26entertaining and hilarious ways. I just, I don't know.
- 22:29Every character in this movie I feel like serves their purpose
- 22:33and does a great job. Like, yeah, I don't feel like
- 22:36anything is wasted here. Yes.
- 22:38All right. What do you.
- 22:39What do you like? I I really like that it does.
- 22:44It doesn't feel like it takes a side.
- 22:46You know what I mean? Yeah, it.
- 22:47Feels like a nonbiased storytelling, even though it is
- 22:51like ultra right wing versus ultra left wing.
- 22:55It points out the problematic aspects of both like, like you
- 22:58said, the hurtful things that come out from some like ultra
- 23:02right wing conspiracy theorists. But like, we've got the ultra
- 23:06left wing and they're very hypocritical.
- 23:08Yeah, and very like fragile. Honestly, Yeah.
- 23:13I don't have a better way of like describing it, but that
- 23:15that is what it is. And I think they're quick to
- 23:17judge people just based off of like you know who they are or
- 23:20where they're from. Like the fucking dude in the
- 23:22beginning they're like are you fucking Hick?
- 23:25Just cuz he's like, yeah, Southern you.
- 23:26Know. Yeah.
- 23:28And I think, you know what they were saying in the behind the
- 23:30scenes stuff I watch like, like that is how a nation kind of can
- 23:34cannibalize itself, you know? So I think that's really good.
- 23:37And I also just like, they're writing is so funny.
- 23:41It is, dude. And you can tell everybody on
- 23:44set felt really comfortable and good with everything.
- 23:47And I think that's that says a lot.
- 23:50I think Betty did so good in this.
- 23:53She injected what I'm gonna assume is a lot of like her own
- 23:57things here. Like whenever she she like, does
- 24:01like makes like funny little faces sometimes during like the
- 24:03scraps, like whenever she's in the bunker and finding the
- 24:05dudes, like there's a part where like the gun hits the fore and
- 24:07she just like makes it like funny little face goes and then
- 24:10like lunches for the weapon. She talked about some of her
- 24:13approach to playing Crystal is that she characterizes Crystal
- 24:18as somebody who kind of gave up on herself a long time ago.
- 24:21OK, I could see that. Which I think really kind of
- 24:24tracks and especially like when she's talking about like how you
- 24:28know she feels and you know she works at a car rental place and
- 24:35there's not a lot of place for her place for.
- 24:37Her to put that, Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:41And like, yeah, you know, So I I think, I think it's really just
- 24:46well done. She did an amazing job.
- 24:48And she really did. Honestly, she's great.
- 24:50That is funny. She also said when she got the
- 24:52script, she had her husband read it and she was like, a lot of
- 24:55people are gonna be mad when they read this.
- 24:56He's like, yeah, they sure are. And then they realize that they
- 24:58were talking about different sides of the political aisle.
- 25:00Yeah, that's awesome. OK, well, I guess bad about
- 25:06this. What it is bad about this, man.
- 25:11Like, like, it's good that we don't get a lot of those people
- 25:14flushed out in the beginning. But I guess it also is kind of
- 25:16sad because I feel like there was a lot of potential with some
- 25:18of those people. Like, I think that it would have
- 25:22been great to have Sturgill Simpson's character survive,
- 25:24because I think he's like a surprisingly good actor.
- 25:28And I think they can bring like a lot of comedy to the roles
- 25:32that he does. Which we talked about.
- 25:35Righteous gemstones on our TV are not to be episode, but to
- 25:39bring it up again. Man, Sturgill Simpson keeps
- 25:41getting cast as like a ultra right wing person, doesn't he?
- 25:45What? He does a great job every single
- 25:47time that he is. I don't know, he's awesome, Ike
- 25:51or Staten Island in this movie. At least I like him.
- 25:55We watched Neighbors with him last night and he's he's just
- 25:58funny. He's entertaining.
- 25:59I don't know. Emma Roberts, your girl we don't
- 26:02get. I mean, I think it's cool that
- 26:03they kill her off right away because you don't expect it, but
- 26:05at the same time, I think she would have helped.
- 26:08But then at the same time like this is but Crystal's movie.
- 26:12Yeah, it is. It's Betty Gilpin's movie.
- 26:15Also, like, not for nothing, but like if I want to see that
- 26:18characterization from them or Robert's, I'm gonna.
- 26:20I'm gonna go watch Screen Queens like or any other.
- 26:23Emma Robert's movie because she's like the same person and
- 26:25everything, which is nothing bad about that.
- 26:27I wouldn't. Necessarily agree with that?
- 26:29Really. You don't think so?
- 26:31No, I think she's different in Scream Four, and I think she's
- 26:33different in Holiday. OK, fine.
- 26:37Yeah, fine. You're right.
- 26:39She's got rage. But yeah, I mean, I just.
- 26:42I don't know. I.
- 26:43Mean. What about unfabulous?
- 26:46Unfabulous. God?
- 26:47Well, that was ancient. That was a long, long time ago.
- 26:50But you're right, she played the guitar in that.
- 26:53I don't know, man. Like I struggle to think of a
- 26:55lot of bad with this one. I got one, OK?
- 26:58Betty Gilbin's makeup is fucking perfect the entire time, OK?
- 27:02To the point that it's distracting.
- 27:04I think it would make more sense for her to not have makeup at
- 27:06all. And like, they tried to do a no
- 27:08makeup makeup thing, which like, obviously, I can tell because
- 27:12like, oh, is that what they were going for?
- 27:14Yeah, OK, yeah. But like, she never breaks a
- 27:17sweat. Like she never looks sweaty.
- 27:20I can see like a hint of contour and a hint of like, eyeshadow on
- 27:24her at times. Like.
- 27:26Her hair is always in a perfect ponytail after she puts it up.
- 27:29I guess. Yeah, for somebody that like,
- 27:31has nothing to lose, she's a pretty perfect character.
- 27:34Yeah, like it's just it's so distracting.
- 27:37And maybe that's because that's one of those things that I have
- 27:40an interest in. I notice it more than others,
- 27:43but it is like she looks fucking gorgeous the entire time.
- 27:47Yeah, like she obviously she's an attractive woman.
- 27:49She is working after who is working, but like flawless.
- 27:55Yes, I I yeah, you're right. Perfect ponytail the entire
- 27:58time? Yeah, anybody who has done a
- 28:00ponytail while working out can tell you that shit ain't staying
- 28:02on the crown of your head the whole time, OK, ugly.
- 28:07I I the. I guess the easy thing is like
- 28:11the whole idea of like pitting two sides against each other,
- 28:14like just the whole idea of like, that division.
- 28:19You know it. It's uncomfortable.
- 28:21It sucks. But I don't know.
- 28:23I always say I make fun of it in this movie, which is nice.
- 28:26It's an ugly concept, yeah. The idea of, like, people
- 28:29picking sides and then like, just because you're on one side
- 28:33means that you have to be. You have to hate the other
- 28:35person. I don't know.
- 28:37It's it's it just sucks. Yeah, I I'd say, yeah.
- 28:41The extreme ideology is held by both sides.
- 28:43Because The thing is like, yeah, there are some things that I'm
- 28:46never gonna be able to get on board.
- 28:48Yeah, with if I hear a person say.
- 28:50Certain things that, particularly if they're gonna
- 28:54like, present a dangerous ideology towards a group of
- 28:58people, you know, like any kind of bigotry, things like that.
- 29:04But I also like, don't get what the joke is about saying you're
- 29:08going to hunt human beings for sport.
- 29:10You know what I mean? Like, Yeah, like, what's the
- 29:13joke? Explain the joke to me.
- 29:14Yeah, well it was a stupid joke to begin with.
- 29:17Like, but it's not even funny. Yeah, it's the thing.
- 29:20So you know, and not something too that even though I would
- 29:24definitely say I'm, you know, a little bit left of center, like
- 29:30I I don't. That's not the type of person
- 29:33that I would necessarily condone their behavior for either.
- 29:37I agree, yeah. I think it's just it's.
- 29:41And The thing is too, that like I think riding off just because
- 29:46somebody is more conservative or more liberal than you, if they
- 29:49haven't done anything other than say like oh, I vote Republican
- 29:53versus I vote Democrat. Like making stereotypes and and
- 29:58judgments based off of that can be just as dangerous and it
- 30:01doesn't give people any room for for growth or understanding.
- 30:06Yeah, if you just immediately discount people.
- 30:10Yeah. And like, I don't know.
- 30:11Like I said, there are things that I'm never gonna be cool
- 30:13with once I've heard somebody say, like, I'm gonna, I'm gonna
- 30:17have trust issues with you probably for a long, long while.
- 30:21But I also do think that there are, there's room for like,
- 30:27understanding, You know, Like, I think there there's room for
- 30:32conversation. Yeah.
- 30:33Like, you know, like you can have like an actual conversation
- 30:35without it being heated and having to.
- 30:37Like you can agree to disagree. Yeah, I think if if people
- 30:41aren't actively being harmed, yeah, by the things you're
- 30:45talking about, you can agree to disagree.
- 30:48And I like, I want to be very clear about that kind of stuff.
- 30:51I think talking about crisis acting, I feel like that
- 30:54actively can harm people. Well, there are things where the
- 30:57a line is crossed where you can't really necessarily.
- 30:59I I understand what you're saying.
- 31:01Yeah, if it's really fucked up, you can say something about it.
- 31:04But if it's just like people liking like just other certain
- 31:08harmless aspects, I think that it's perfectly fine.
- 31:10It's just let people be who they want to be.
- 31:12I I think you should be able to have a conversation with another
- 31:15human being without it becoming so cutthroat.
- 31:20But I also think it's important to, like, not support things
- 31:24that are gonna put other people's lives in danger.
- 31:25I think we're all on board with that.
- 31:27I think it's pretty clear. We just Yeah, it's fine, OK,
- 31:31Absurd. My absurd is Orwell, the pig
- 31:36that is just, like constantly running around the battlefield
- 31:40the entire time until he's not. Poor Orwell, Poor Orwell.
- 31:44Actually, no mine. I think mine's going to be the
- 31:46fact that they they choose, like the way that they went about
- 31:52choosing these people for their hunt.
- 31:56It felt like they were trying to find people to give a bid to on
- 32:01bid data fraternity, like just reviewing their Facebook and
- 32:04just like making quick judgments based off of their profile
- 32:07picture. Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 32:09Like, 'cause that's what they were doing.
- 32:10They saw a picture of people like, OK, no, no, like, all
- 32:13right, we're gonna get that guy. He's obviously a racist piece of
- 32:15shit, you know, like, stuff like that.
- 32:18Yeah, I think my absurd is just going to be.
- 32:23I think it's gonna be dead sexy, cuz she falls into the pit and
- 32:26they get her out and then she gets plowed right back, right
- 32:28back onto the same spike. Oh yeah, it's great.
- 32:32I like that. OK, cool.
- 32:35I think I'm gonna rate this 9.5. I like this movie a whole lot.
- 32:41I'm gonna rate it 9 9OK. So we have a starting average of
- 32:469.2 5. All righty, strong movie.
- 32:49All right, all right. Ready to do it?
- 32:51So we start off somebody's at a woman's at her desk and we can
- 32:55see her text conversation and you know, they're just talking
- 32:57about various things, complaining about certain
- 33:02political figures. Ted starts off with a thing that
- 33:07is like Reese from Green Room where he's like I've told I have
- 33:10something that I haven't shared with any of you guys ever
- 33:13before, and they just sends like a video of a turtle having sex
- 33:16with something. Yeah, and then like Athena's
- 33:18like, well, at least the Hunt's coming up soon.
- 33:21Nothing better than going out to the manner and slotting a couple
- 33:24dozen deplorables. Yeah.
- 33:26And then everybody, like, goes along with them immediately and
- 33:28like, oh, you can't talk about it over the text.
- 33:30And then one person's like, oh, I'm deleting this thread and
- 33:32then boom, that's it. Yeah.
- 33:34So then we caught it to a plane. OK, I need to talk about this.
- 33:39The flight attendant. Yes, the actress's name is Ali.
- 33:43Ha. Oh God, how the how God shut.
- 33:48Up. Hannah Allen, Hannah Allen Okay.
- 33:52Yes, and so my notes say Glenn Howerton is a jerk to a murdered
- 33:58girl. And that's because we were
- 34:01watching your worst nightmare from Investigation, Discovery
- 34:06and. We were watching this girl being
- 34:09held hostage in her own house. And I was like, she looks really
- 34:12familiar. And Travis was like, yeah,
- 34:13whatever. And I pulled up the IMDb and I
- 34:16was like, oh, it's her. So she's.
- 34:20Yeah. So this actress has actually
- 34:23been in a lot of different things, but.
- 34:25Oh, really? OK Yeah.
- 34:25One of the things she's been in is this.
- 34:27She she was good in this. Yeah.
- 34:29She's better than she was in that episode.
- 34:31She wasn't terrible in that episode.
- 34:32She knew she was going to be murdered, Travis.
- 34:34Usually in those shows, people are pretty bad at acting, but
- 34:37she was, yeah, she's probably one of the better actors and all
- 34:39of that. Yeah, at least she wasn't the
- 34:42dad down at the bottom this year is going save you.
- 34:47Yeah, OK. So yeah, Glenn Howerton or
- 34:50Dennis, I don't know, he, he plays Dennis essentially in
- 34:53everything that he's done. Like, honestly, it's just Glenn
- 34:56Howerton. Yeah, he is kind of harassing
- 34:59her. He's requesting Mediterranean
- 35:01fish, which can't really do that.
- 35:03It's. Like, we don't have a full
- 35:04kitchen. Yeah, well, and I love the way
- 35:06she says that. He's like, this is an airplane,
- 35:10but then suddenly somebody wakes up and they're super confused.
- 35:14And it's ready. Yeah.
- 35:18Yeah. And that's how he's credited.
- 35:22And he is clearly coming off of some tranquilizers.
- 35:25And the doctors like, OK, I need you to lie down.
- 35:28All right, we're going to get you back to sleep.
- 35:30And then he stabs him in the neck.
- 35:31Ted the Turtle. Fuck dude.
- 35:34Yeah, that's just how I did it. Ted the Turtle.
- 35:36Fuck yeah, Ted the turtle. Fuck Ted over here.
- 35:40He yeah, he weighs him now to comfort her and he's like, don't
- 35:42worry, you weren't supposed to wake up yet.
- 35:44So he takes the pin and stabs him in the neck, which only gets
- 35:47Randy to go a little bit more crazy.
- 35:51Well then he does, you know, try to defend him.
- 35:53So yeah, he grabs a stab, grabs a champagne.
- 35:56Bottle hits Ted with it. Do you want to do your
- 36:00obligatory That fucks you up, that fucks you up, dude,
- 36:03seriously, did we get a sound effect?
- 36:05Because, like, if it goes like the that's how you know that.
- 36:09Oh shit, that hurt the skull. If it shatters, you're good.
- 36:12Actually, if it shatters, you're not good because that's just
- 36:14going to, like, cut you up hard. You're just fucked no matter
- 36:18what. If you get hit in the head with
- 36:19a bottle, honestly. It does end up being shattered,
- 36:22but what happens is Athena is woken up and she comes out and
- 36:26stabs him in the eye with her heel and this is.
- 36:29And the little detail that I absolutely love because she is a
- 36:32very, very rich woman. Part of Glenn's whole speech at
- 36:36the beginning was that she bought 3 bottles of this
- 36:39$250,000 champagne that went down like was sunken.
- 36:45They had to go get it with a robot.
- 36:46Like she's super. This is her private jet.
- 36:48Like she's filthy, disgusting rich.
- 36:51Like, hypocritically Rich, considering what her.
- 36:54So-called political viewpoints are yes, but she's got Lebatans,
- 36:59which are, or. I don't know if they're
- 37:02necessarily Lebatans, but it's like that kind of a thought,
- 37:06except instead of the red soul on the bottom, it's blue because
- 37:10of political affiliation. Yes, I love that little detail.
- 37:13It's a nice touch. I didn't catch it the first or
- 37:15even second time we watched it. But when we bought it on Blu-ray
- 37:17and watched it at home, I was like, yeah, that's a good thing
- 37:20about this movie. Like if you, when you watch him
- 37:22multiple times, you start to pick up on other things.
- 37:25All right. So now we cut.
- 37:27Yeah, by the way. So they're dragging the body
- 37:30into like, one of the closets there.
- 37:32And then he's drugged next to Emma Roberts, who is still
- 37:36knocked out. Yeah.
- 37:37And then we cut to in the field. Emma Roberts wakes up.
- 37:41She's got a gag in her mouth and she's panicking.
- 37:44There are a bunch of other people scattered across the
- 37:46field that are also waking up. Crystal.
- 37:49Not groggy at all. She immediately gets up and
- 37:53makes a compass out of her name tag.
- 37:55Super fucking resourceful dude. Like, yeah, I never.
- 37:58Whenever I first watch it, I didn't really understand what
- 37:59she was doing. I thought she was unlocking the
- 38:02thing and then I thought she was gonna sell it across the water
- 38:05to Emma Roberts. But I noticed now, like this
- 38:08time. Oh, it made a compass.
- 38:10So what she did was she took the pin off the back of her name tag
- 38:12and she basically got like some static charge to it by like
- 38:17rubbing her hair on it and then she put it on the leaf in the
- 38:20water so it could, yeah, rotate. Yeah, yeah, I get to.
- 38:24Which makes me think, if she still had her name tag on, did
- 38:26they attack her or kidnap her while she was at work?
- 38:30Or while she was coming home. Or while she was coming home,
- 38:32like, but I wouldn't have my name tag on while I'm driving.
- 38:35I take that shit off as soon as I get in the car, man.
- 38:36Well, I mean, she was still wearing her like, like her
- 38:40uniform shirt. So I have a feeling you know the
- 38:43orange shirt? Yeah, yeah, it almost looked
- 38:45like a jumpsuit to me. Like a when I was in jumpsuit.
- 38:49It was a single piece because she.
- 38:52She takes off the red closure later and has on different
- 38:55pants. Yeah, OK, well, yeah.
- 38:57So they they all start to wander out into a field.
- 39:00The 11 other yeah, they wander out, there's a crate in the
- 39:03middle of the field and they open it and a pig comes running
- 39:07out and then they roll out this weapons crate.
- 39:11But Emma Robert, she goes up and she finds the this tiny little
- 39:15envelope on the back of the crate lid that they just threw
- 39:18to the side. And it's got keys in it, so
- 39:19everybody gets to take their gags off.
- 39:22And she's talking to big game Shane.
- 39:25Yes. And he's like trying to be
- 39:28comforting to her. And we're like, oh God, are we
- 39:31getting, are we really gonna force like a romance type thing
- 39:33into this? Maybe that's not what I'm here
- 39:35for. But don't worry, because she
- 39:36gets shot in the head. Yeah, well, cuz like you start
- 39:38hearing gunfire, she's like, Oh my God, that almost hit me.
- 39:40And then it's like right through her and she's like, oh shit,
- 39:43she's dead. Which was a big shock whenever
- 39:46we watched her first time in the theater.
- 39:47Yeah, I was so sad. Yeah, I'd heard that.
- 39:50She wasn't in all of the. The movie, but I didn't think
- 39:53she was going to be out in like 2 minutes.
- 39:55Yeah, so they all go running. Dead sexy falls into a pit of
- 40:00some spikes and Shane helps her out and then when they run he
- 40:05steps on a mine so they explode and dead sexy.
- 40:09Well, the top half of her one step back.
- 40:11On the exact same spike that she was on originally and then.
- 40:14She stops to Staten Island as he's running by and she's like,
- 40:16shoot me, he's like, I can't. And she says Fucking snowflake
- 40:19takes the gun and shoots herself.
- 40:20Yes, which like. She has no legs and she's been
- 40:24stabbed multiple times. She's put it out of her misery.
- 40:26She's in a field. She's probably not going to get
- 40:29medical attention from the people currently actively
- 40:31shooting at her. No, I kind of get where she's
- 40:33coming from. Like, I'm gonna die either way.
- 40:36It is kind of crazy though, that they all just start opening
- 40:39fire. Like, isn't the whole point of
- 40:40this supposed to be that they're hunting?
- 40:42Like, they're not. Like, they're just like killing.
- 40:45They kill so many of them right away.
- 40:46Like, you even got the one dude that's like dual wielding.
- 40:49He's just running up the hill trying to like, shoot, We don't
- 40:51even get anything from that guy. He's just dual wielder.
- 40:53Like he's just like, gets fucking eviscerated like that.
- 40:55Yeah. And also another weird thing
- 40:57about this Hilary Swank's character or Athena, she was the
- 41:02one that organized this whole thing.
- 41:03Yet she's not participating in the hunt at all.
- 41:05She's not with the group. She was waiting for Snowball,
- 41:08but how does she know that she's going to be there?
- 41:10How do they know that one person is going to make it and going to
- 41:12come like all the way up to the manner?
- 41:14Like, I don't think that she knows that's going to happen.
- 41:16It makes sense from a movie standpoint, but she like she's
- 41:19the one that organizes the whole thing and she is not
- 41:21participating. I think she was waiting.
- 41:24I think she was waiting until like the final one.
- 41:26OK, well and. She was really hopeful that it
- 41:28was snowball, OK. Let's see.
- 41:32So, so a group of people was running.
- 41:34They found a fence and like climb over top of it.
- 41:37But Target? That's what he's credit as.
- 41:39He doesn't make it because he gets shot by a bunch of arrows.
- 41:41Yeah, Staten. Island Vanilla I I like how on
- 41:44when he gets shot by the arrows like you get like a grenade that
- 41:47rolls over to him and you think it's going to explode and like
- 41:49why isn't it going like did you pull the pin and then like you
- 41:52see like a second one just roll up to the and then like you just
- 41:55see the explosion later from like the other three running
- 41:58away. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:59So, Staten Island Vanilla Nice and Big Red get to Mom Pops gas
- 42:04station they. Ask for a phone and they're
- 42:07pretty rude about it, but mom and pop are pretty rude too, I'm
- 42:11gonna say. I mean, I think it's justified
- 42:14for these three people to be behaving the way that they are
- 42:17as they're being chased. Oh yeah.
- 42:19And they try to like, they try to ask them why they have guns
- 42:23because we're being hunted by a bunch of people.
- 42:25And then they're like, oh. I would be confused by that,
- 42:29like that we're being hunted. Well, why do you have guns for
- 42:34self-defense? It feels very confusing.
- 42:38It does, but at the same time I get it.
- 42:40But then, like they try, it feels.
- 42:41Like panic moments where he's not making any sense.
- 42:43I like having watched the movie. I understand what's happening.
- 42:46Yeah. But like I I just.
- 42:48They like, but the ma and PA are like oh so they're exercising
- 42:51the same rights that you are. All are exercising is like, why
- 42:54the fuck are you making this about that?
- 42:56Like, I get it from their point because, you know, they're
- 43:00obviously in on it. But like, from everybody else's
- 43:03standpoint, like, why the fuck are you making this like a
- 43:04debate about, yeah, you know what you feel about guns.
- 43:08Yeah, well and then they asked him to please stop pointing the
- 43:11gun towards him. He goes, I have 7 guns.
- 43:13I know how to be safe with guns. Which first of all, never point
- 43:17at a gun at somebody you don't intend to shoot because of
- 43:20accidental fires. Yes.
- 43:21And she said, why do you have on that many guns?
- 43:23He's like for self-defense. She goes, are you gonna really
- 43:25use seven guns at all time? Which?
- 43:27I feel like it's a fair question.
- 43:28I mean, some people do just like to shoot for sport, not even
- 43:31necessarily shoot at like, animals, and I think that's
- 43:33fine. Yeah, I personally don't own any
- 43:37guns, but that's like a much more personal thing than like a
- 43:40political stance. Yeah, I'm not much of A gun guy
- 43:44myself. But I have like gone to shooting
- 43:47ranges and stuff before. Yeah, I have two.
- 43:48Like, I don't judge people for doing that.
- 43:51Yeah, nothing wrong with it. I cause nine on one and the 911
- 43:56operator is super unhelpful. Yeah, he is like asking well.
- 44:01It's clearly Macon. Well, yeah, he is, yeah.
- 44:04But he's like trying his best to be super obtuse about
- 44:07everything. And then he's like, OK, where
- 44:09you at? I don't fucking know.
- 44:11I would. Do you want me to give you my
- 44:12address in Staten Island? Like, because they realize that
- 44:15they're in Arkansas. They have no idea where they
- 44:17are. And then the guys, like, can't
- 44:18you just use my fucking cell phone to triangulate where I'm
- 44:20at? He's like, wow, you know what?
- 44:22That's a great idea. Which should know right off the
- 44:25bat that there's no way a 9/11 operator would be this
- 44:28incompetent. Like you should know,
- 44:30something's funky with this. It has happened, but it has.
- 44:33But come on like this is like, this is intentionally not giving
- 44:37a fuck. Yeah, hang up or just realize
- 44:39that something is not right. Big Red is just eating food off
- 44:44of the shelf, but then she starts to choke.
- 44:49What? What was it that vanilla nices
- 44:51like she's chalking or something like that?
- 44:54I don't remember. It was like a quick throwaway
- 44:56live, but it was really funny. Mom Pop throw some gas bombs at
- 45:01them. Yeah they they gas them and then
- 45:06they pass on. Then he goes up to pro track and
- 45:09or Staten Island is like for the record asshole, climate change
- 45:13is real and they shoots them, yeah.
- 45:15And then? As they're cleaning up because
- 45:18they get a radio called that snowball is headed down and
- 45:21she's unarmed, so they're trying to clean up so it looks like a
- 45:24normal gas station again. And she ma starts to feel bad
- 45:28because one of them's wearing a wedding ring and he goes don't
- 45:30feel bad. He probably says the N word and
- 45:33in public, and not even privately like probably on
- 45:36Twitter. One, the speculation of it all.
- 45:40Yeah. Two, you've already looked
- 45:42through their Twitter. Yeah, right.
- 45:43Which she? I mean, I guess that that won't.
- 45:45I don't know. Did he?
- 45:46He might have. I don't know. 3 The whole
- 45:49argument they have about what is the correct language to refer to
- 45:52people of color as. And then he like quotes NPR And
- 45:56she goes, and NPR is made-up and almost entirely of who and he
- 45:59goes white people. I'm the fucking worst.
- 46:03And he turns on the climate change TV, he's like and he took
- 46:05another hit. It's just I love how like he's
- 46:10just super concerned about climate change is hilarious so
- 46:13they get a radio further around they.
- 46:15Should be concerned about climate change.
- 46:16Well, yeah, but I mean, come on, man, I'm not gonna whimper
- 46:19whenever I see bad news about climate change in the news, you
- 46:21know? Anyway, so they get a radio call
- 46:24from Athena warning them that snowflake or snowball is on the
- 46:29way. So Crystal enters the store and
- 46:34she asks what state they're in. And then she asked for some
- 46:38Sigs. And then as she gets the six,
- 46:42she's kind of giving them an uneasy fill too, because they
- 46:44think that she might be on to them.
- 46:46And then, as soon as she gets her change back, you see her
- 46:48face, she realizes that something's fucked up.
- 46:50Gives them a 20 and she gets $10 and some change back.
- 46:54And so she slams Ma's face into the counter, launches herself
- 46:58over, grabs their rifle under the counter, shoots pop, turns
- 47:02around to her and says cigarettes are only $6 in
- 47:06Arkansas. You fucked up.
- 47:08Bitch, I love the way that she says that.
- 47:11You fucked up bitch. Yeah, and she shoots her.
- 47:16That's what I'm saying, dude. That's the energy that she
- 47:18brings to this and it's so fun to watch her.
- 47:20Do this stuff to people, It's great.
- 47:23She goes outside and sees a truck and she peels off the
- 47:26license plate and discovers foreign license plate.
- 47:31She's not entirely sure yet, but she ends up making some guesses.
- 47:34Later puts it together that she is in Croatia and then she
- 47:37realizes that the truck is wired.
- 47:39So if you open up, you're gonna blow up.
- 47:41Yep. So she here's the radio go off
- 47:45trying to figure out whether they're not getting a response
- 47:46from mom pop. So they sent out a drone and she
- 47:49hides. Only the drone gets shot down
- 47:53and she's mad at Gary. She points out that she's a
- 47:55friendly and he's like, how can I trust you?
- 47:57She goes, Well, you could get in the truck and blow the fuck up
- 48:00and then you'd know. And he's like, oh, and she was
- 48:04like, all right, we need to get going.
- 48:06And he's like, why they just shot down their camera.
- 48:09And she was like, so then they know we're here.
- 48:12And he's like, oh, I like that. She, like, is thinking four or
- 48:16five steps ahead. Yeah, This is why she survives.
- 48:19Exactly. So she's like, OK, I saw some
- 48:21tracks down the road, so let's go follow them.
- 48:24He says. What kind of tracks?
- 48:26I thought that that was a fair question, cuz I didn't
- 48:28understand railroad tracks. That's what you say whenever you
- 48:30talk about railroad tracks. So they start walking down the
- 48:34tracks. And he's like, you know what
- 48:35this is? This is goddamn man or gate.
- 48:37Yeah. Which?
- 48:38Which? Here's the thing.
- 48:40It's a crazy, seriously theory, but in this case, it's actually
- 48:43true. Well, yeah, And they made it
- 48:45true, but it wasn't true beforehand.
- 48:48Like, it's the whole thing about like taking the conspiracy
- 48:50theory, throwing gate at the end and then everybody like creating
- 48:54it's crazy scenario. But yeah, it ends up being real
- 48:57here. But she, like, stops to take a
- 48:59pee and then she's like. He's like, my name's Gary, by
- 49:03the way. She goes shut the fuck up, Gary.
- 49:06I love that. That's his credit to shut the
- 49:07fuck up, Gary. So they get to the railroad.
- 49:12She senses the vibration and she's like, it'll be going slows
- 49:15at the curve. Let's run.
- 49:16And she gets on there. Gary's not going to make it, and
- 49:19she's a good person, so she pulls them aboard.
- 49:23So on there they realize that they're not alone.
- 49:26There's some refugees hiding also, so.
- 49:30Gary is like, oh, these are crisis actors.
- 49:32And she's like, what the fuck? And he goes, oh, what is this
- 49:35supposed to do? Make me feel bad about refugees?
- 49:38Change my stance on immigration, which is a very narcissistic
- 49:41point of view. Yeah, You were put on this train
- 49:42specifically to change your viewpoint on immigration.
- 49:46Like, she's like, they got a baby Gary.
- 49:47He's like, I don't know, they could be crisis babies.
- 49:50No, he says. There are crisis babies.
- 49:53It's funny, but the train ends up being stopped and they are
- 49:58escorted out by some kind of military.
- 50:01And Gary is trying to explain to them what is going on and you
- 50:04pointed this out that like. All of the refugees, the people
- 50:08of color, are being patted down and checked, and Gary and
- 50:12Crystal, the two white people are they hop off of the train
- 50:16and they're like looking around cuz they're swarming the other
- 50:18people and patting them down and force them up against the train.
- 50:20But they're like shrugging, like, what?
- 50:21Is it not happening to us? OK?
- 50:23And then they just walk off and they get interrogated by some
- 50:26other like a Croatian dude. Yeah, and Gary's trying to
- 50:29explain what's going on, but he doesn't.
- 50:32He's not listening. He doesn't really care.
- 50:33He walks away. And one of the guys signing
- 50:36goes, I don't think they believe you, Gary.
- 50:37Yeah, Gary. Did you hear that?
- 50:40So good. Yeah.
- 50:41So they do. Is actually part of like the
- 50:43thing. But he's like, yeah, he's still
- 50:45one of them. He wasn't actually the.
- 50:47I think it was. Yeah.
- 50:48Something I don't remember his. He's not really super important.
- 50:50He's barely in the movie, but I he reveals like they're actually
- 50:54real refugees. He ingrained himself in there
- 50:56for like weeks for whatever reason.
- 50:58I don't really fully understand how he got wrapped up into this.
- 51:01Yeah, he said. The train wasn't supposed to be
- 51:02stopped. They're real refugees.
- 51:05You guys weren't supposed to be here.
- 51:07I'm not supposed to be here. So let's just shut up and get
- 51:10out and I will give you guys a head start.
- 51:12And Gary takes a grenade and puts it down his pants.
- 51:16Yeah. Which is like, I mean, it's good
- 51:18because they're, they're kind of tight pants, so he can't really
- 51:20reach in there and get it out fast enough cause of them to
- 51:23explode. But like, I don't fully
- 51:25understand how because he's part of the group that's haunting
- 51:27them. I don't like, I don't understand
- 51:30how he wound up where he is. Like, why was he not with the
- 51:33rest of them? I don't feel like they fully
- 51:36they don't ever really explain. They just like whenever, later
- 51:40on, whenever they're like picking out the people that
- 51:42they're gonna hunt. He mentions like what his role
- 51:44is going to be, but it doesn't hint at anything like this.
- 51:49Yeah, I don't. Well, because they need to get
- 51:51making Blair there to act like he's part of the American
- 51:54Embassy. Yeah, just they planned that far
- 51:56ahead at least. Yeah, well leave us is supposed
- 51:59to be there. Nobody was supposed to be here.
- 52:01It's all kind of not really going according to plan.
- 52:03I think that they had making Blair's thing as a backup type
- 52:09deal cuz they are just in a random country so if they manage
- 52:13to find other people they at least have him to go out there
- 52:16and pick him up. Yeah, so we see Crystal gets
- 52:21escorted to this building. And they're like, do you know
- 52:24where you are? And she was like, well, I was
- 52:25leaving work. I got drugs.
- 52:27I was asleep for probably 18 hours.
- 52:30So I'm gonna guess somewhere. She guesses a bunch of countries
- 52:32and she lands on Croatia. This guy is so fucking
- 52:35disgusting. And he's like, oh, let me guess,
- 52:42you're hunted like Don? He's just eating boiled eggs the
- 52:38entire time. Like, just so gross.
- 52:43And she goes what? Show me papers.
- 52:45Hunted like Don And she was like, who's Don?
- 52:49And then he, like, is over at the next table in the wizard and
- 52:52she goes, yeah, Hunt is like, gone.
- 52:57So yeah, they sent an embassy representative and envoy, I'm
- 53:03not sure the exact word for it. And so he picks them up and he's
- 53:08like, I'm horrified that this is happening to you.
- 53:11This is awful. Like this.
- 53:13Just this feels. We're gonna go and we're gonna
- 53:16get military support and get people to come in and we're
- 53:18gonna figure out what happened. This seems really personal
- 53:20though, right? Yeah, like, why would they do?
- 53:22Why are they doing this to you? Like why you specifically?
- 53:25It just, it seems very targeted and Don's just like, this is a
- 53:29weird conversation and Crystal's like me like she like picks up
- 53:34her feet. She has like the little like, I
- 53:38don't know, dude. Like, it's just like shit like
- 53:40that that I love about this. Yeah, she just like, straight
- 53:43up, kicks him out of the moving car, drive like gets in the
- 53:46driver's seat and then backs over his head.
- 53:48Yeah. And Don is like he.
- 53:50Cracked me up during all this because oh God, Oh my God, oh
- 53:54God no dude, he's good. Like he was like a good person
- 53:59to be heard sidekick in this because he just brings like, I
- 54:02don't know, like another bit of comedy with his performance, but
- 54:05like. Yeah, and so she's trying to
- 54:07explain that. He's clearly not who he says he
- 54:10is and he's like, no, he was gonna get us out of this.
- 54:13And she opens the trunk and Don goes Jesus and Chris goes Nope,
- 54:17just Gary cuz he's in his body's in the trunk with a knife to the
- 54:21skull. So I don't fully understand why
- 54:23he was trying. Was he trying to act?
- 54:25Cuz she's like, I think he was trying to figure out why we're
- 54:27here too. But like, he was there, part of
- 54:30the whole team that was getting them, so he knows why they're
- 54:33there. No he wants.
- 54:35They all want that. That's why they say this in the
- 54:38flashback sequence that's coming up, that they don't want to just
- 54:42kill these people. They want them to know why
- 54:44they're being They're doing a terrible job at it because
- 54:46they're just straight up killing these people.
- 54:48Yeah, I I don't disagree with you.
- 54:51I think they're bad at what they're It's like what she says.
- 54:54They're either smart pretending to be stupid or stupid
- 54:56pretending to be smart. I think they're stupid
- 54:58pretending to be smart. That's exactly what it is.
- 55:01Because yeah, like, they're not really.
- 55:03Figuring out why they're there, Yeah, but OK, so they now
- 55:07realize that it's just the two of them now that Gary's dead.
- 55:10Yeah, they've done the math on it.
- 55:11There were twelve of them and 10 have died.
- 55:13So it's just the two of them left and they find a map in the
- 55:16trunk and they're gonna, they're gonna go win, cuz the Jack
- 55:20rabbit always wins. This is where she the whole
- 55:22Jack. Yeah.
- 55:22She tells him the story that her mommy used to tell her, and I
- 55:25was like, your mom told you that, which is like kind of a
- 55:29fucked up story to tell, like. I mean, a lot of the Grimm's
- 55:33Fairy Tales, like the original versions, are, well, super
- 55:36fucked up. I don't understand why she feels
- 55:38the need, like everybody's heard this story.
- 55:40Why does she feel the need to tell Don about it?
- 55:42Like Don looks like honestly, I'm used the entire time, but
- 55:46still like everybody knows it. I never heard the part at the
- 55:51end of the DRAC rabbit killing the yeah cuz she added that,
- 55:55yeah, but you don't need all of that, you know, just wait, you
- 55:58know the story of the rabbit in the turtle, you know, blah blah
- 56:00blah. I guess for theatrics or?
- 56:02I mean, I've heard the story before and I was willing to
- 56:04listen to her. She's She tells a convincing
- 56:07story. I guess I'm it's just we've all
- 56:09heard him in. Go on, get on to the killing
- 56:12parts. Yeah, Orwell pops up and they
- 56:14have a plan. So we see all of the hunters are
- 56:18in the bunker and they're making fun of.
- 56:23One of the guys? Haiti troops.
- 56:25Wait, no, this is Martin. I don't know who the crisis
- 56:28actor was then. Yeah, yeah, thank God Martin is
- 56:31taking on AIDS, cuz he's like says that he went to Haiti to
- 56:35help assist with an aid like fundraiser or whatever, but he
- 56:39ended up also knocking up somebody while he was over
- 56:41there. Yeah, so this is like a thing.
- 56:44This is another thing here where they're making fun of people
- 56:47trying to be like overly politically correct to the point
- 56:50to where it's like ruining every, like any bit of flow in a
- 56:53conversation. Yeah, like, I don't know.
- 56:55I think that it's funny there because like it's just straight
- 56:59up saying, like you guys and I go, did you just gender that and
- 57:01like. Which here's the thing, though,
- 57:04is that I do think language is important, and it is important
- 57:06for us to like. Kind of move away from gendered
- 57:10language like that. Like, I've really tried to
- 57:12change the way. Like I'd like saying, folks,
- 57:14now, Alright folks, guys has always been like everybody to
- 57:18me. I've never seen that as like a
- 57:20gendered thing. I I've had the same experience
- 57:23but there are people that who are trans and non binary that
- 57:29have had like very targeted language used against them so
- 57:33having like. Gendered language, just thrown
- 57:36around so casually, can be a little bit upsetting.
- 57:38It's marginalizing in a way that's maybe not necessarily
- 57:41like intentional, but it does have an impact.
- 57:45And I just like I see what you're saying.
- 57:47I get the point you're making. They're stopping the flow of
- 57:49conversation, having this whole, like, political correction.
- 57:51It would just be insufferable to talk to these people.
- 57:54But I do also think it's a discussion worth having, is the
- 57:57point. I understand.
- 57:58But at the same time, God damn, it's just like, like there's
- 58:02politically correct, but then there's also to the point where
- 58:05you're correcting every little thing that everybody is saying.
- 58:07And I think that that is like annoying.
- 58:09I think like nitpicking in a conversation all the time, yes.
- 58:12But I do think that it is also important to, especially like if
- 58:16you're in a group of. Friends like where you can
- 58:18comfortably be like, hey, this language use bothers me.
- 58:22I don't think the way they were going about it was necessarily
- 58:24productive, OK. So Richard Glenn goes to pee and
- 58:30he is ambush. As he's leaving the bunker, they
- 58:32send in Orwell and everybody panics and shoots him.
- 58:36It's sad, man. They all just light up Orwell,
- 58:38which I they missed so many times.
- 58:40I feel like they would be able to tell that they're shooting at
- 58:42a pig, but they don't. They just keep firing at the
- 58:46pig. I wrote that the libs get
- 58:48pounded, libs get pounded. But yeah, Crystal comes in
- 58:54swinging, and she kills most of them.
- 59:04The dude, the military dude. Liberty and Dale are both in bad
- 59:00states by the time that Dawn comes back in.
- 59:06Yeah, the consultant. Yeah, they have like a dude
- 59:07that, like they hired as a consultant.
- 59:10He did work for the movies. He did Tears of the Sun, which
- 59:13had Bruce Willis, had Bruce Willis.
- 59:15So he's got some legitimacy to him.
- 59:17Yeah. So the radio comes on and Athena
- 59:21asked Don and if he got her and Don's like, Oh no, she's
- 59:26tricking you, she's tricking you.
- 59:27She goes drop the gun Don. And Don's like, no, he's like
- 59:30she is lying and she's like and Crystal's like, drop the gun
- 59:33Don. And he won't.
- 59:35So she shoots him, I think, which is OK.
- 59:38So do you think that he was actually bad or do you think he
- 59:41was good? I think he was like one of the
- 59:45hunted people. I think he was Sue.
- 59:47Yeah. Ohh, you don't want to.
- 59:49Yeah. I'm not saying like his
- 59:50character. I'm just talking about like, do
- 59:51you think he was like? Hunter or hunted?
- 59:53Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 59:55Yeah, yeah, like I think that, that, and we never get full
- 1:00:00confirmation cuz even when we see like shots of all of the
- 1:00:03people, like if he's there, he's always like one of the ones off
- 1:00:07to the side. Yeah, I mean, I don't really.
- 1:00:10I mean, I feel like in that situation, like, just drop your
- 1:00:13gun if you're good, you know that she's good.
- 1:00:15No, because he's like, shown repeatedly that he's not gonna,
- 1:00:19like, listen to her. Because I don't know he's
- 1:00:22listened to her the entire time. No, he hasn't.
- 1:00:24He's fought with her every single step of the way, even
- 1:00:27though she proved to him time and time again that she knows
- 1:00:28what she's talking about. I think he's just confused, like
- 1:00:32I I think that they went along with this plan just fine.
- 1:00:34I don't know. Yeah, I think he should have
- 1:00:35just dropped his gun. But she didn't want to take any
- 1:00:37chances, and I don't necessarily blame her.
- 1:00:39Yeah, I guess. So she goes and talks to
- 1:00:41Sergeant Dale and says, how much are they paying you?
- 1:00:44He said nothing. I owe Athena a favor.
- 1:00:46And then she says, oh, they've shot Liberty too.
- 1:00:51Before the radio came on, Don was like, you can't shoot her,
- 1:00:54She's a woman. And Crystal goes miss.
- 1:00:58Do you think that you should be afforded mercy just cause you're
- 1:01:00a girl and she goes, of course not.
- 1:01:02Boom. Yeah.
- 1:01:04So now everybody's dead except for Crystal and Sergeant Dale.
- 1:01:07And she has Sergeant Dale and he clocks that.
- 1:01:10She's got some military background and she said, yeah,
- 1:01:13toured in Iraq and she said what about you?
- 1:01:17National Guard so, well, thank you for your service.
- 1:01:21And then she shoots him one year ago.
- 1:01:25Athena gets up to her office and there's some folks in there and
- 1:01:29he they say, as you're aware, Martin's account got hacked.
- 1:01:33And all of the information, your text messages, stuff about Manor
- 1:01:37Gate, comments about the present, everything have come to
- 1:01:41light. It's bad optics.
- 1:01:43People out there believe it and everybody else did what they had
- 1:01:46to do and stepped down. And so basically she's fired and
- 1:01:51she keeps saying it's a joke, it's a joke, it's a joke.
- 1:01:55It doesn't come across as a joke and it's not a fucking funny
- 1:01:58joke. Yeah, is the thing.
- 1:02:00Yeah, it's a stupid joke. Yeah, like, I get it.
- 1:02:03Like it was a private conversation.
- 1:02:04But, like, that's just. I mean, I've got a dark sense of
- 1:02:08humor, but talking about killing real human beings is a little
- 1:02:12who's. Yeah, I guess.
- 1:02:14Yeah, it's a little, yeah. But I mean, at the same time, I
- 1:02:18get where she's coming from. Like, yeah, I get it.
- 1:02:22Like, I mean, it was a private conversation with friends and it
- 1:02:25got weaked out into the public. Like, you're like, it's like you
- 1:02:28have that different personality when you are with different
- 1:02:31people. You know what I mean?
- 1:02:32It doesn't necessarily reflect you as like a person because
- 1:02:35that's not who you choose to like, to present yourself as
- 1:02:38normally like, that's just she felt comfortable with him.
- 1:02:40She felt comfortable saying that behind closed doors.
- 1:02:43It's unfortunate that I got weaked out to a bunch of other
- 1:02:45people, but I mean. I mean, I disagree about it not
- 1:02:48being who she is, but I do think that you have different faces
- 1:02:51you put on around different people.
- 1:02:54And I mean, I'm not. I'm saying it's.
- 1:02:55Yeah, sorry, hold on. I'm saying she's not a killer.
- 1:02:58I'm saying she's just joking. Like you can feel.
- 1:03:01You feel more comfortable telling darker jokes around
- 1:03:03certain people compared to, like, other people.
- 1:03:05She felt comfortable telling that dark joke with her friend.
- 1:03:07Yes, in a private conversation. Yes, it's very different than
- 1:03:11the professor. No, your, you know, your
- 1:03:12audience type thing exactly like, I don't think that she's a
- 1:03:14killer. I'm just saying, like, you know,
- 1:03:15like dark humor is allowed. So eight months ago, they're in
- 1:03:21a home theater. And they are rating people who
- 1:03:25post about who posted about Manor Gate and they decide
- 1:03:29they're like they have to cap it at 12, Dale says.
- 1:03:33Because it's their first time, they don't want it to be too
- 1:03:35large. That's another reason I think
- 1:03:37Don like was an actual hunted person, because I don't think
- 1:03:39they would have wanted to waste one of their slots with one of
- 1:03:43their own, I guess. But like also on the first time
- 1:03:45you want to make sure it runs smoothly, so maybe plant
- 1:03:48somebody on the inside, you know?
- 1:03:50I guess I could see it either way.
- 1:03:52Yeah, they're like reviewing all of the photos and profiles of
- 1:03:55all the people that they're going to go for.
- 1:03:57You get Gary. He has a podcast called
- 1:03:59Confederate Files. And yeah, he talks about, like,
- 1:04:04crisis. Yeah, he's Jesse made, like, a
- 1:04:07good comparison. He's basically like Alex Jones.
- 1:04:09Yeah, big game. Shane hunts Endangered Species.
- 1:04:15It's really gross profile pictures, him standing over like
- 1:04:17a rhino, a rhinoceros or whatever.
- 1:04:20Yeah. And then they start reading
- 1:04:25Justice for Y'all, which is Crystal May Creasey's Twitter
- 1:04:28account. They start reading her tweet
- 1:04:31about how clearly Athena and Manorgate are, like actual real
- 1:04:36things, and they're killing real people.
- 1:04:38All they get to though, is fuck this bitch, and then they start
- 1:04:41to read more. But then I think it's like, no,
- 1:04:42that's all I need to hear. That's our snowball right there.
- 1:04:45Yeah, so then. It cuts back to present.
- 1:04:49Yes, she. Athena makes Crystal leave her
- 1:04:52gun in the mailbox and lets her know that there's mines in the
- 1:04:54ground. So you know she should just go
- 1:04:57ahead and leave her gun because otherwise she can blow her up
- 1:04:58right then and there. When Crystal gets inside, she
- 1:05:02sees the photos on the wall of everybody that was being
- 1:05:05haunted. Let's see there's some examples
- 1:05:10of why some of them are there. Staten Island was one of the
- 1:05:16Tiki marchers, Tiki marchers. Yeah, the new like, white
- 1:05:21supremacy group. Remember when they did their
- 1:05:22like, protest with the Tiki torches?
- 1:05:25I don't remember that. Oh, God, is it was it was bad.
- 1:05:30So yeah, he's a white supremacist.
- 1:05:32Say OK, that is bad. We see a mug shot of Vanilla
- 1:05:36Nice. He's from Florida.
- 1:05:37Go figure, I wonder what he was in prison for.
- 1:05:40I'm sure if we'd paused, we could have seen maybe something
- 1:05:43on his little sign. Yeah.
- 1:05:46Let's see. Emma Roberts is like standing
- 1:05:49with some political person in front of the White House, so you
- 1:05:52can assume she's like an aide or an intern or whatever to some
- 1:05:56right wing politician. Big Red is at a protest and her
- 1:06:01sciences Stop being gay. God.
- 1:06:06So those are all the ones, I mean, just right down.
- 1:06:07OK. Yeah.
- 1:06:10Crystal gets into the kitchen and Athena is making a grilled
- 1:06:13cheese, and she's being very pretentious talking about all
- 1:06:16the best ways to cook a grilled cheese.
- 1:06:19Yes. And I think she's also not
- 1:06:22realizing how immensely privileged she is to be able to
- 1:06:27get to the fancy she uses and fancy breads and what's not.
- 1:06:30It's not. A lot of people make grilled
- 1:06:32cheese because it's cheap and easy to make, not because they
- 1:06:35are. Yeah, right.
- 1:06:37I know. It's good, though.
- 1:06:38You know anybody can enjoy a simple grilled cheese, I'm sure.
- 1:06:41I'm not gonna lie, though. Like grilled cheese sounded
- 1:06:45really good. It did, yeah.
- 1:06:49But yeah, so she asked Crystal if she knows who she is and
- 1:06:53Crystal's like, I have no clue who you are.
- 1:06:56And she goes, well, I know all about you and she like.
- 1:06:59Rattles off this biography of Crystal Macresi and she was very
- 1:07:03unsympathetic to what this person went through.
- 1:07:06Where her father had a meth lab which ended up exploding and her
- 1:07:11mother overdosed on the last batch of the meth.
- 1:07:14And as a result of that, and probably never getting proper
- 1:07:19treatment from all of the childhood trauma that comes
- 1:07:22along with that kind of shit, Crystal had a hard time holding
- 1:07:25down a job and. She gets through all of this and
- 1:07:30Crystal goes. I don't want to interrupt your
- 1:07:33grilled cheese speech, but you got the wrong Crystal Mae
- 1:07:37Creasy. She spells hers with a Yi.
- 1:07:41Get her mail sometimes. I know she spells hers.
- 1:07:43Mae, Yes. I can't get them mixed up either
- 1:07:47way they spell. Their mae's different, yeah.
- 1:07:49Either way and not important, so she.
- 1:07:51Was like, my mom's still alive. We can call her if you want.
- 1:07:53My dad, He's kind of a Dick, but he's alive too, so they decided
- 1:07:58to just fight it out. So now they this is like one of
- 1:08:01the best fights. It's so fucking good.
- 1:08:03Like the camera work is amazing. The choreography is amazing.
- 1:08:06The music that goes along with it?
- 1:08:08Really well done, Yeah. The use of the props and
- 1:08:11everything, like it's just it is such a well done fight sequence.
- 1:08:15Yeah, just do yourself a favor and just watch that if.
- 1:08:18Yeah, Anything else from this whole movie?
- 1:08:19Because it's a treat to watch. So they end up like stabbing
- 1:08:23each other. Yeah.
- 1:08:24And they both, like, end up. It's basically a draw.
- 1:08:27Yeah, well, it ends up like the thing that they stab each other
- 1:08:29with. So Crystal had like, the blade
- 1:08:33of a food processor in her stomach, and she pulls Athena to
- 1:08:36her and basically transfers the blade over, which I think is
- 1:08:38just a really intense finishing move.
- 1:08:40Yes. And they're both laying bleeding
- 1:08:42out on the kitchen floor. And Crystal says, can I ask why
- 1:08:46you called me Snowball? And I think it's like it's a
- 1:08:50reference to George Orwell's Animal Farm.
- 1:08:52And Crystal's like, yeah, yeah, I get that, but.
- 1:08:54Why am I snowball like he's the idealist.
- 1:08:57That's why the other animals like go on a smooth campaign
- 1:09:00against him. And I think it's just kind of
- 1:09:02like shocked. And then she goes, can I ask you
- 1:09:06a question? I mean, we're bleeding out
- 1:09:08anyways, to be honest. I got the right one.
- 1:09:12Right you're you're justice for you all.
- 1:09:15And Crystal goes, No, ma'am, I'm not.
- 1:09:18There's a gut punch right there. Yep.
- 1:09:21And then Athena dies, but Crystal gets up.
- 1:09:24And she she eats the grilled cheese.
- 1:09:26She takes like the little toaster thing, like the little.
- 1:09:29The little flame thing. Yeah.
- 1:09:32And she cauterizes her tummy stab.
- 1:09:34Yeah. So she's not bleeding out
- 1:09:35anymore. Yeah, she eats the food like the
- 1:09:37Jack rabbit. Yeah, well, she also sees the
- 1:09:40Jack rabbit while she's laying on the ground there, so she's
- 1:09:42like, OK, I'm gonna do. That and I love her facial
- 1:09:44expression. Like, yeah, so Eats the grilled
- 1:09:47cheese, goes on, puts on a fancy dress.
- 1:09:50And she takes Athena's dog. Yeah, which is cool.
- 1:09:53And she she climbs the and she takes the big expensive bottle
- 1:09:57of champagne. She climbs toward the plane and
- 1:09:59she tells the pilot and the flight attendant, she goes, the
- 1:10:01assholes you work for are all dead, and I would like to go
- 1:10:03home. Is that OK?
- 1:10:05And they're like, yeah, yes. And the flight attendant is
- 1:10:09like, would you like me to pour that?
- 1:10:10And Chris says, yes, please. And she goes, would you like
- 1:10:13some caviar? And she's like, sure.
- 1:10:16And she asked her if she's ever had caviar.
- 1:10:17And she was like, I don't think I really allowed to.
- 1:10:19And she goes. Caviar, Sit down and she shares
- 1:10:22the caviar and champagne with her.
- 1:10:24Gross. That's it.
- 1:10:24Caviar's so nasty. I get it.
- 1:10:27That's cool. And then she drinks like the
- 1:10:29bottle and it's like, how does it taste?
- 1:10:30It's like, so fucking good. And then boom, that's it.
- 1:10:35That's the. All right.
- 1:10:39I'll keep mine 95 I'm. Gonna bump it up to 95 as well.
- 1:10:43OK, cool. It's it's just a fucking good
- 1:10:47movie, man. Like, I just can't.
- 1:10:48It's it. Yeah, it's not a whole lot that
- 1:10:50I don't like about it. There's just a whole lot that I
- 1:10:53love about it. It's like every time I watch it,
- 1:10:56I just have so much fun. It's just great.
- 1:10:58I don't know, it's funny. It's got a lot of action.
- 1:11:00It's got a lot of like nice kills.
- 1:11:04Characters are solid. It's just good.
- 1:11:06Can't really think of much to complain about.
- 1:11:08Yeah, the The only thing I would change is just like let Betty
- 1:11:12Gilpin look a little less dish, a little more disheveled.
- 1:11:15Yeah, like. It's reasonable.
- 1:11:17Yeah, it's reasonable. Let's how you rate it.
- 1:11:19All right. Well, Talia, as we put in the
- 1:11:22DVD, was very itchy, and we made it one second before.
- 1:11:25It was very clear she needed a Benadryl.
- 1:11:26Yes, so we did that. She climbed up on the couch.
- 1:11:30She farted. She played with her toys.
- 1:11:34She kept throwing the Mattis at 29 minutes and 27 seconds.
- 1:11:39She had to go out again, and she came in.
- 1:11:40She's a little sleepy for the rest of the movie.
- 1:11:43So I think all of that all said, she is going to rate this a 10
- 1:11:47because she had a really good time watching it and the dog
- 1:11:50specifically survived. But the dog is in a plane and
- 1:11:54the dog is super high up and Talia does not like being that
- 1:11:56high up. So she might be like, oh, it's
- 1:11:58going to be a scary movie for that dog.
- 1:12:00Or maybe she would think that the plane is like an even better
- 1:12:03car ride. Oh, it could be that too, yeah.
- 1:12:06Right. Zoe ran in as soon as we started
- 1:12:09it. She's not Hunter.
- 1:12:11Yeah, she jumped up on the couch.
- 1:12:12Yeah, she likes to hunt. So a little hunter, yeah.
- 1:12:15OK, who'd you relate to? Probably the flight attendant.
- 1:12:23Flight attendant. Yeah, we're like, I'm just
- 1:12:25trying to do my job. I don't think I'm allowed to eat
- 1:12:28the caviar. Yeah, shit.
- 1:12:33Who that relates to? Cuz I've been there, I've been a
- 1:12:36server, I've been low man on the totem pole and understanding
- 1:12:40that you gotta do what you gotta do to take the bills sometimes,
- 1:12:44yeah. Even if you don't like the
- 1:12:47assholes you work for. Not my case now, but like, I've
- 1:12:50been there in the beginning of the movie.
- 1:13:02Yeah. Dennis is, I just call him
- 1:12:54Dennis. Glenn Howerton's character is
- 1:12:56like, do you like actually working for Athena?
- 1:12:58She's like, yeah, it's great. She's like, don't really hear
- 1:13:00that much from people that work for.
- 1:13:02She's like, she's sweet. And he was like, don't let her
- 1:13:04hear you say that. Yeah.
- 1:13:07Who did I relate to? I relate to the dude with the
- 1:13:10dual welding machine guns as he's running up because like if
- 1:13:14I'm going now, man, just gonna Take Me Out while I'm looking.
- 1:13:17Cool and stunning. Just down in a blaze of glory,
- 1:13:19he went like Rick Silva, and I respect it.
- 1:13:22I would go Rick Silva in this moment too.
- 1:13:25OK, Do you have a dream sequel in mind for this?
- 1:13:29MMM. Do.
- 1:13:32Does another hunt continue? Do they do?
- 1:13:35Another hunt does. Maybe like reverse this ads.
- 1:13:39Ooh, you know what? That actually would be an
- 1:13:41interesting I did, yeah, just reverse the sides, yeah.
- 1:13:46'Cause I like the whole thing was that, like the manner and
- 1:13:49the hunting was never a real thing.
- 1:13:53But then because Athena wanted revenge, she turned it into a
- 1:13:56real thing. And she kept trying to say,
- 1:13:57like, you're all the ones that made it real.
- 1:14:00And I was like, well, Athena, you're actually the one that
- 1:14:01made it real. Yeah.
- 1:14:03I guess, like if you wanted to do that, you could do that and
- 1:14:06just like update it with modern, like current political things
- 1:14:11that are happening. If you wanted to do that to
- 1:14:13just, you know, make fun of the current climate, Yeah.
- 1:14:16Which you know, it's always changing.
- 1:14:18I would like to see how that cuz climate change is real.
- 1:14:22Yeah, climate change. You're right.
- 1:14:24Damn that was good, good, good. Catch up.
- 1:14:27There, yeah. So I would like to see a
- 1:14:29reversal of the roles and how the different things would be
- 1:14:32handled that way. Yeah, I can't really think of
- 1:14:34like a logical way. If you to, like, keep any of the
- 1:14:39characters, Yeah, I mean, you would only have crystal, you
- 1:14:42know, maybe like the flight attendant is like, all right,
- 1:14:44I'm gonna get revenge on these fuckers.
- 1:14:46Like I've had caviar. I can like I wanna get my
- 1:14:49payback now. Yeah, OK.
- 1:14:52Caviar. Flaming panties.
- 1:14:54Flaming batons. Satan's panties.
- 1:14:56Yeah, a new tagline. So this one needs a new tagline,
- 1:15:01cuz the tagline it has is not a whole lot.
- 1:15:04Yeah. HM OK the hunt, You fucked up
- 1:15:10bitch, because they got the wrong one.
- 1:15:13Oh yeah, yeah, I like. I like that.
- 1:15:16You fucked up, bitch. Yeah.
- 1:15:18OK. All right.
- 1:15:21Internet review. OK.
- 1:15:23What'd you pull for us? So I was really concerned what
- 1:15:29kind of reviews I was going to be able to get if it was just
- 1:15:31going to be people on one side of the.
- 1:15:34I also to speak or the other being mad about the
- 1:15:37representation of their personal alignment.
- 1:15:41But honestly, a lot of the more negative refuse because I knew
- 1:15:44we would be positive. So I wanted to get that other
- 1:15:47viewpoint. I was trying to find ones that
- 1:15:49weren't just like I didn't like this movie, you know what I
- 1:15:52mean? I wanted to get a little bit
- 1:15:53more understanding of why they didn't like it, and I thought
- 1:15:56this one kind of really is a good explanation for why
- 1:16:00somebody might not like this movie.
- 1:16:02I love crazy horror flicks, but this movie portrays the worst
- 1:16:05stuff during this time. I hope you actors and producer
- 1:16:08are proud about the money you made releasing this crazy.
- 1:16:10Like I said, I like hostile in the collection.
- 1:16:13This is too real to reality. I hope your carriers are
- 1:16:19affected. Karma what?
- 1:16:22I don't know. That last sentence isn't.
- 1:16:24I don't know what they're trying to say, but I can understand why
- 1:16:28somebody would be like, hey, I watch movies too.
- 1:16:32Disengage. And I don't necessarily want to
- 1:16:35be reminded of how at each other's throats people are right
- 1:16:43now. Particularly, I totally
- 1:16:45understand that. Like, if you like, because
- 1:16:47that's so much of life right now, if you pay attention, Yeah,
- 1:16:51to any of that. Like, it's just so much arguing
- 1:16:54and division and shit like that. And then when you're wanting to
- 1:16:58just watch like a fun horror movie and then it's the same
- 1:17:01thing. Like, I can totally understand
- 1:17:03that being just not what you want.
- 1:17:06Yeah, when you watch a movie. And I've always been of the
- 1:17:09stance that horror is an inherently political genre.
- 1:17:13Yeah. But I do think that there are
- 1:17:15plenty of movies that are a lot more subtle, which, yeah, I
- 1:17:21mean, like. Without outright being like your
- 1:17:24political beliefs are causing you to be hunted or to hunt like
- 1:17:29that is very like. On the nose and I could see
- 1:17:32like, because it God, 2020 was a bad fucking year.
- 1:17:37It just was a culmination of a lot of things and it was really
- 1:17:41nasty leading up to the election and with the pandemic and
- 1:17:44everything. Like, I could see that hitting
- 1:17:47at the exact wrong time for a lot of people.
- 1:17:50Yeah. I mean, it's just really
- 1:17:51exhausting anyways, just in general, so like, I get it, but.
- 1:17:56But that's why I like it personally.
- 1:17:58Yeah, it feels, I feel like it. It does a good job.
- 1:18:01Like, I mean, it doesn't like it.
- 1:18:03It takes that and it has fun with it.
- 1:18:05And honestly, like, like I said, I feel like it where it does
- 1:18:09kind of make fun of both sides. It does kind of remind me to
- 1:18:12rein in some of my more like, knee jerk reactions sometimes.
- 1:18:16And I think it's really important to try and understand.
- 1:18:22Where people come from with different beliefs, yeah, even if
- 1:18:25you don't necessarily agree with them.
- 1:18:26Because sometimes that can be a good way to build a bridge and
- 1:18:29understand. Well, I think like one of the
- 1:18:31things like in this movie, it even shows you like, yeah,
- 1:18:35Hilary Swank's character, like she is, you know, a left wing
- 1:18:39person and she feels very strongly about those.
- 1:18:42But she ended up becoming the exact same thing that she hated.
- 1:18:46Yeah, She ended up being like this person that just like, is
- 1:18:49hunting people and. Well, and she became
- 1:18:53disenfranchised, which is why, like some people like.
- 1:18:57And not to get too political, but that's why a lot of people
- 1:19:00in our region ended up voting for Trump because he promised to
- 1:19:03bring back industries that aren't necessarily thriving very
- 1:19:06well right now. Yeah.
- 1:19:08And that was a huge thing. That was kind of an eye opener
- 1:19:10for me when I was reading some of the articles on people from
- 1:19:13this area talking about why people in their hometown were
- 1:19:15voting for him. Because it was just almost an
- 1:19:18act of desperation. Yeah.
- 1:19:21You know, and I think having that little bit of empathy can
- 1:19:26kind of make a difference because there are a lot of
- 1:19:30people that just stopped seeing each other as human beings.
- 1:19:36Yeah. And when as long as people
- 1:19:38weren't like, I'm voting for him because he's going to outlaw the
- 1:19:41gays, you know what I mean? Like, that's a whole different
- 1:19:45thing. But being like he said, he's
- 1:19:47going to save the coal industry and that's what this town
- 1:19:50survives on. I could see that being like a
- 1:19:53beacon of hope for people. Yeah, I got it.
- 1:19:55I mean, I'm from a town that was very cold dependent, so I
- 1:19:58totally understand why people felt that way down there.
- 1:20:01But like, at the same time, you have to understand who you're
- 1:20:03talking to. Yes.
- 1:20:05Like, you have to understand why like some of these people are
- 1:20:09saying this should just to get your vote, even though they have
- 1:20:12no intentions of doing anything. Yeah.
- 1:20:15Either way, it's whatever. That's not even what.
- 1:20:17That's just a whole other thing. I don't want to get super.
- 1:20:20Yeah, I'm trying not to get like I'm trying not to insert too
- 1:20:23many of our own politics in this, but because it's such a,
- 1:20:28it's such a delicate line to walk because some of these
- 1:20:30people do push ideologies that are harmful to groups of people.
- 1:20:34But also like, you can't have the black and white discussion
- 1:20:39about things. Yeah, it's not productive.
- 1:20:42Yeah. OK.
- 1:20:44All right, let's get some listener reviews.
- 1:20:46OK, so we got a couple of them. Let's.
- 1:20:50Start off with Instagram. So First off we have Horror Nerd
- 1:20:5686, he says. Or they say I gendered it.
- 1:21:02He did. Good catch.
- 1:21:04Yeah. I thought our conversation
- 1:21:06earlier was actually productive. Yeah, honestly.
- 1:21:09Fantastic movie that rags on every political stereotype.
- 1:21:12Betty Gilpin is a badass. Betty Gilpin is a badass.
- 1:21:16And I do like that it doesn't seem to pick a side.
- 1:21:20Yeah, fuck yeah, Michael E Howard says.
- 1:21:23The Hunt really digs into the extremism of left and right wing
- 1:21:26politics. Coming out in 2021, it is hard
- 1:21:29to tell whether it was meant to be a tell of what could be a
- 1:21:32farce or a blanket statement of the world.
- 1:21:35Maybe it is all of these and more.
- 1:21:37The movie grabs you from the moment it kicks off and never
- 1:21:40relents. The movie's ending has one of
- 1:21:43the best fight scenes since Kill Bill.
- 1:21:45I would argue even better. In the end, it left me with a
- 1:21:48lot of thoughts about our world 9.5 out of 10.
- 1:21:52Yes, Michael, Which? Which?
- 1:21:55Fight Scene and Kill Bill Rank? Rank the Fight scenes.
- 1:21:58I want to know which ones you're thinking of.
- 1:22:00I I feel like it's got to be the finale, right?
- 1:22:02And like where we see who is like there with her game part
- 1:22:08one. We got a whole part too, too,
- 1:22:10where she faces off with Bill. Yeah, I well, maybe he's opens
- 1:22:14up with her in the kitchen with. I feel like if you're talking
- 1:22:18about, which that's a good one, I know what you're talking about
- 1:22:20with the mom. Yeah.
- 1:22:21Yeah, that's a great one too. But that's not anywhere near as
- 1:22:24good as the final fight. Come on, you keep saying final
- 1:22:27fight. It's the final fight of part
- 1:22:28One. Hold on.
- 1:22:28I was about to make this point, OK.
- 1:22:30If you're talking about, then I feel like you, you know, kill
- 1:22:33Bill. Kill Bill to.
- 1:22:34If you're talking about both of them as a thing, it's the whole
- 1:22:37bloody affair or the bloody affair.
- 1:22:39Whole bloody affair. I think that's what it is, yeah.
- 1:22:41But then we we got the fight with every single, every single
- 1:22:44member, yeah, of the deadly Viper Assassin squad.
- 1:22:47That's true. I need to know.
- 1:22:48I need to know how all of those different fights are.
- 1:22:50Making all right. Yeah.
- 1:22:50Please elaborate. Yes, let us know specifically
- 1:22:53which one you're thinking of. I'm hoping it's Lucy Liu because
- 1:22:55her versus the crazy 80 eights. Yeah, that's that's it.
- 1:22:59That's the fucking thing. It's so fucking good.
- 1:23:01But I do feel like in a movie like that, you have to clarify.
- 1:23:04Yeah. OK, and Twitter.
- 1:23:07We have movies for days. They say.
- 1:23:09A friend was so excited to show me this after it became
- 1:23:12available with the stream. I kind of hated it, but was too
- 1:23:14embarrassed to say anything negative at the time because his
- 1:23:16friend was so convinced I'd love it like he did, and I didn't
- 1:23:20want to disappoint him. I love that guy.
- 1:23:23You know what? I like this right here, so I
- 1:23:24have both been on that that experience with the other.
- 1:23:29Dude, I yeah, I back in elementary school, I had a kid
- 1:23:34that it was one of my friends and he really liked the show.
- 1:23:37And I pretended I liked it because, you know, he liked it
- 1:23:40so much. And then he kept talking about
- 1:23:42it for weeks after. And then one day on the way back
- 1:23:44from lunch, I stopped. I was like, listen, man, I hate
- 1:23:47that show. I don't watch it.
- 1:23:48Like please stop talking about it.
- 1:23:50And his frown. Just went.
- 1:23:53I felt so bad. But at the same time I was like,
- 1:23:55dude, stop talking about it. Like, I don't know, it's sweet.
- 1:23:59It's sweet that you care that much about your friend and you
- 1:24:03don't want to disappoint him. But maybe, I don't know, try it
- 1:24:06again. You might have a different
- 1:24:07opinion about it. I would be curious to know what
- 1:24:09it is about it that you don't like.
- 1:24:11Yeah, that's you. Yeah, yeah, I like, fully
- 1:24:14respect. But this maybe isn't for
- 1:24:16everybody. But I do like to.
- 1:24:17I like to understand why it isn't for everybody.
- 1:24:19Yeah, I yeah, yeah. It's good to know.
- 1:24:22But respect that. You don't have to like it.
- 1:24:24No biggie. All right, that is it for this
- 1:24:27week's episode. Y'all it sure is.
- 1:24:29So next week we will be coming at you guys with Nope, Yeah, I

- 1:25:00It was a fucking good movie. Yeah.
- 1:25:02I had absolutely no clue. Lovecraftian is the the
- 1:25:09adjective. I will give a hint that's good
- 1:25:11for it, yeah. I think that's fair.
- 1:25:14Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:25:15It's really good maybe. And I'm really excited to
