- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. The homes come picking now far
- 0:14Speaker 1: Asia for the Talk touchdown. Travis Kelsey, he he full
- 0:21Speaker 1: crow Man touchdown, her class down, the scantling. There's the
- 0:26Speaker 1: Sickle touchdown and that ties the game at twenty. Butckers
- 0:31Speaker 1: kick us out and ask you're gonna have to deal
- 0:35Speaker 1: with the Chiefs as the a n C champions. Welcome
- 0:39Speaker 1: to the Manifest Capture Game Fight her Crackberty has been
- 0:45Speaker 1: taken out of the game into that Scott Lieline Attention,
- 0:55Speaker 1: Air Profit Control. The Clock of Eagles is heading to Arizona. Everybody,
- 1:07Speaker 1: we love to do another hour of NFL Now, Patrick
- 1:09Speaker 1: Clay Bond, Steve Why is here in the NFL l
- 1:11Speaker 1: A newsroom as we've got our team set for Super
- 1:14Speaker 1: Bowl fifteen seven, the Chiefs and the Eagles. The Eagles
- 1:17Speaker 1: with the dominant performance and the Chiefs winning in the classic,
- 1:19Speaker 1: winning in a classic and a great game with the
- 1:22Speaker 1: Bengals again. Bengals fans are unhappy with their mayor and
- 1:24Speaker 1: the officials. The Chiefs fans they're happy with their quarterback
- 1:28Speaker 1: in their kicker. Yeah they should be. They should be
- 1:30Speaker 1: We'll talk more Chiefs later, but let's look back to
- 1:33Speaker 1: the earlier game. It was between the forty Honors and
- 1:36Speaker 1: the Eagles. Jalen Hurts looking to get another playoff win,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and there's this set coach Nick Sirianni making a decision
- 1:42Speaker 1: on fourth and three, and it turned out to be
- 1:44Speaker 1: the right one, big time play. Look at this throw.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Davante Smith goes up snares it. Replay shows he actually
- 1:52Speaker 1: didn't catch it, but he had to wear with all
- 1:54Speaker 1: to say, let's hurry up, let's run the play, and
- 1:56Speaker 1: they got the playoff. So Kylie Shanahan doesn't challenge, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: this is the end result. It is a Miles Sanders
- 2:04Speaker 1: touchdown on second and goalie and Jason Kelsey have a
- 2:06Speaker 1: dance in. Nick Sirianni gaps him up and then the
- 2:09Speaker 1: fort is gonna chance on offense. Early in the game,
- 2:13Speaker 1: they have a tight end on a Son Reddick and
- 2:14Speaker 1: he smashes brought Purdy's elbow. Yeah, I mean this, this
- 2:17Speaker 1: changed everything. She brought Purdy as the hands coming forward,
- 2:21Speaker 1: his elbow gets whipped back. Suffers right now is being
- 2:25Speaker 1: called the uc el spraininger. Are wrath words reboarding and
- 2:28Speaker 1: app but he could not come back into the game.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That had to kill him until his coach, I can't
- 2:32Speaker 1: go yah said he could barely have feeling, could only
- 2:35Speaker 1: throw the ball five yards. So incomes Josh Johnson fourteen
- 2:39Speaker 1: to seven. Johnson takes his eyes maybe looking at the
- 2:41Speaker 1: snap instead of Son. Reddick has a phone. Boy, Yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and then that opened up the flood gates. I mean,
- 2:45Speaker 1: the Niners have stayed competitive to that point, and the
- 2:47Speaker 1: Niners finished things off blood Boston Scott gets to the outside,
- 2:52Speaker 1: the Monte Smith gets a nice block on ward, and
- 2:54Speaker 1: Boston Scott has a touchdown not against the Giants. I
- 2:57Speaker 1: think it's like his eighth not Giants touchdown of his career.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And then uh, Josh Johnson would later leave the game
- 3:05Speaker 1: with the concussion. So Brod Perny comes back in the
- 3:08Speaker 1: then Jalen Hurts rods the wave of Eagles into the
- 3:11Speaker 1: end zone. So dominant with that quarterbacks. I just love
- 3:14Speaker 1: that muchpit formation. I'm telling you something big is coming
- 3:17Speaker 1: out of that Super Bowl. They get tick books. He's
- 3:19Speaker 1: calling its. He's called the trick player, the pumble rouse key.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Maybe snap it to somebody that's he's pretending to be
- 3:25Speaker 1: off the field. Either way, The Eagles dominant yet again,
- 3:28Speaker 1: defense holds another playoff team to less than ten points
- 3:33Speaker 1: seven points for the forty Honors thirty one to seven.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni going to his first Super Bowl, Brandon Graham
- 3:39Speaker 1: going to another one with philipil It's something you you
- 3:43Speaker 1: dream about your whole life. And uh, like I said
- 3:46Speaker 1: to the guys that whether you we've all been dreaming
- 3:48Speaker 1: about it, whether you were dreaming about it when you
- 3:50Speaker 1: were to ten, uh fourteen eighteen or when you got
- 3:54Speaker 1: in the NFL, um this is something we all dream
- 3:56Speaker 1: about and we get to do it because you know,
- 3:58Speaker 1: we did it better than anybody else in the NFC
- 4:00Speaker 1: this year, So how we knows. Guys put together, great team,
- 4:03Speaker 1: great personalities people actually that really you know, I just
- 4:06Speaker 1: wanted to be here, and man, I'm just excited because
- 4:10Speaker 1: I know that, you know, we ain't done yet, and
- 4:12Speaker 1: them boys still hungry like like like like Jayalen said,
- 4:14Speaker 1: were starving, starving for and then you can tell just
- 4:17Speaker 1: about how we practice. So I'm just enjoying being in
- 4:20Speaker 1: here right now, even though white pebody cuts me out
- 4:23Speaker 1: because I'm late because I'm kids gotta go to school
- 4:24Speaker 1: tomorrow let you know what, we're having fun, just trying
- 4:28Speaker 1: to just keep enjoying this moment right now. A couple
- 4:31Speaker 1: of football family moments from the two Eagles there in
- 4:34Speaker 1: terms of their quarterback, the highest win percentage by the
- 4:37Speaker 1: starting quarterback including the playoffs in a single season, Jalen
- 4:40Speaker 1: Hurts right there, sixteen and one with a chance to
- 4:44Speaker 1: be yet another yes on this list. In fact, they
- 4:47Speaker 1: only know comes courtesy touchdowntown. But that loss to Eli
- 4:51Speaker 1: Manning and the Giants, because there's Mark Ross as well
- 4:54Speaker 1: as Omar Louis to talk about this game. Omar, in
- 4:57Speaker 1: that locker room, you heard from the Philly faithful and
- 5:00Speaker 1: the fans yesterday. What did the Eagles say about their
- 5:04Speaker 1: trip to this people, well, nothing about Jubilasian. In that
- 5:08Speaker 1: Eagles locker room, a lot of talk about not being
- 5:11Speaker 1: finished the jobs certainly not done yet, but so many
- 5:14Speaker 1: different stories coming out of the locker room. You have
- 5:16Speaker 1: a guy like Fletcher Cox, who liked Brandon Graham. There
- 5:19Speaker 1: was a part of the Super Bowl fifty two championship
- 5:22Speaker 1: Eagles team, Lane Johnson, Jason Kelsey, pillars of that team
- 5:26Speaker 1: still around for this one, and Cox told me that
- 5:28Speaker 1: he appreciates this journey even more this stage in his career.
- 5:32Speaker 1: He appreciates how hard it is to get there. And
- 5:36Speaker 1: then you have a player like Hassan Reddick, who had
- 5:38Speaker 1: the game changing play the sack fumble on brock Prudy there. Remember,
- 5:42Speaker 1: he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the first round.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Was considered a bust, average just two and a half
- 5:48Speaker 1: sacks his first three seasons, and his last year as
- 5:51Speaker 1: a Cardinal, he starts to come to life. His last
- 5:53Speaker 1: three years, he's averaging better than thirteen sacks per game,
- 5:57Speaker 1: including sixteen this past season with the Eagles. He comes
- 6:01Speaker 1: home here to Philadelphia, and now he returns to Arizona
- 6:05Speaker 1: a super Bowl hero. He told me how life comes
- 6:07Speaker 1: full circle like that, he can be more thrilled to
- 6:10Speaker 1: have this opportunity. It's two of the many storylines will
- 6:13Speaker 1: follow all two weeks leading into Super Bowl fifty seven.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But certainly the Eagles appreciative of this opportunity, which is
- 6:21Speaker 1: exactly how they're treating it. And Mark, this Eagles team
- 6:24Speaker 1: runs for a hundred forty eight yards the forty and
- 6:26Speaker 1: owners hadn't seen the team run for that many yards
- 6:27Speaker 1: against them since week six. A dominant performance up front. Yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and it really it's endless with who you can talk
- 6:35Speaker 1: about on this Eagles team. As Omar mentioned, I mean
- 6:38Speaker 1: every single position group that the Eagles have. You've got
- 6:41Speaker 1: Pro bowlers and stars, young guys, veterans. Whatever you want,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the Eagles have it and we've seen that on display
- 6:49Speaker 1: all year long. With they can win games in any
- 6:52Speaker 1: way possible that you want. They can go high scoring,
- 6:55Speaker 1: they can grind it out, they can run at you,
- 6:57Speaker 1: they can play defense and shut you down and get
- 6:59Speaker 1: sacks and at all. But as you mentioned, it all
- 7:02Speaker 1: starts up front with those those dudes up front, with
- 7:05Speaker 1: Kelsey and Lane Johnson who completely just blew hold wide
- 7:09Speaker 1: open holes play after play for the running backs there.
- 7:13Speaker 1: You know, I really protected Jalen Hurts. Jalen had a
- 7:15Speaker 1: lot of time. I didn't think he looked on comfortable
- 7:18Speaker 1: throwing the ball yesterday only fifteen completions a one yards.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But again the mark of the Eagles is he made
- 7:24Speaker 1: huge plays when he needed to make the plays, and
- 7:26Speaker 1: then they ran the ball. The defense didn't really have
- 7:28Speaker 1: to put in much work at their certain point once
- 7:31Speaker 1: the top two quarterbacks one out there. But this is
- 7:33Speaker 1: just the mark of this team where they are just
- 7:35Speaker 1: so talented and well coached and starving. As Jalen said,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and Brandon Graham said that Jalen have they had that
- 7:41Speaker 1: hunger and they get feeling that they're right there. They've
- 7:44Speaker 1: shown this all year. It's not a flute. This is
- 7:46Speaker 1: a talented team there. Patrick and Mark you mentioned that
- 7:49Speaker 1: about the defense being able to face a one dimensional
- 7:52Speaker 1: team because of the injuries that came to the quarterbacks.
- 7:56Speaker 1: In set for for San Francisco, Brock Party leads with
- 7:58Speaker 1: the elbow injury and then Josh Johnson uh leaves the
- 8:01Speaker 1: game with a concussion. Here's what Brock Party and the
- 8:04Speaker 1: forty Niners have to say after the game. You know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: my arm I just felt like it stretched out. Um
- 8:11Speaker 1: just felt like really a lot of just shocks all
- 8:14Speaker 1: over from my elbow down to my wrist, front and back.
- 8:18Speaker 1: UM just paying really all over for this to happen.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's in the first drive, really of man, like, this
- 8:27Speaker 1: is the kind of game we have to play After
- 8:29Speaker 1: the first drive and I'm just I'm just frustrated. Um,
- 8:32Speaker 1: But it's more sad for those guys than anything, because
- 8:35Speaker 1: they deserve to go to win and to win the
- 8:39Speaker 1: whole thing. Yeah, it's not ideal. It sucks. Um. You know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: you never want to see, you know, any of your
- 8:43Speaker 1: teammates get hurt, let alone obviously the quarterback position, it's tough.
- 8:46Speaker 1: How does that feeling of losing the actual champion game
- 8:48Speaker 1: because I don't have a quarterback appreciate to be honest,
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah about it. Pretty clear and concise response from George
- 8:57Speaker 1: Kittle there. How else are the forty Niners dealing with
- 8:59Speaker 1: those injuries and and as a result of laws some more. Yeah,
- 9:04Speaker 1: nothing but disappoint an incredible disappointment. Some of the folks
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the locker room saying that this was probably the
- 9:09Speaker 1: hardest of these recent magn magnet games of this magnitude
- 9:13Speaker 1: type of losses, the Super Bowl fifty four loss, last
- 9:15Speaker 1: year's NFC Championship game, because they really didn't stand a chance. Now,
- 9:19Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey did point out how hard they fought, and
- 9:22Speaker 1: he said it's a testament to how this team has
- 9:24Speaker 1: been able to reach these heights the last several years
- 9:27Speaker 1: because of the fight in the locker room, and he
- 9:29Speaker 1: said they were still believing they could win even when
- 9:32Speaker 1: they were down twenty one to seven, because you never
- 9:34Speaker 1: know how a game could bounce your way if they
- 9:37Speaker 1: get a pick six or a special teams touchdown. So
- 9:39Speaker 1: they were still fighting, they were still scratching and clawing
- 9:42Speaker 1: a testament to the work ethic of this team. But
- 9:44Speaker 1: there wasn't much to say otherwise. As Deebo Samuel said,
- 9:48Speaker 1: you know, because of not having a quarterback that could
- 9:50Speaker 1: throw more than five to ten yards. There in the
- 9:53Speaker 1: second half, a lot of people asking, hey, how come
- 9:55Speaker 1: they didn't do wildcat with Deebo and Christian McCaffrey and
- 9:58Speaker 1: George Kittle said, well, if you don't have a quarterback
- 10:00Speaker 1: that can throw the ball down field, the Eagles know
- 10:02Speaker 1: exactly what's going to happen. They would have loaded the
- 10:04Speaker 1: box with end people. So not much really to hope
- 10:07Speaker 1: for there. They certainly gave a valiant effort, but not
- 10:10Speaker 1: clearly not the way the forty Niners wanted to end
- 10:12Speaker 1: their season. Yeah, there was certainly no question on who
- 10:14Speaker 1: the forty Niners wanted to play Steve at quarterback yesterday.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Now the question starts to turn the clock to what
- 10:21Speaker 1: are they gonna do? Yeah, well, it's hard to say
- 10:23Speaker 1: what they're gonna do until they get the m R
- 10:24Speaker 1: I exam results back from brock Purty's elbow. I mean,
- 10:27Speaker 1: you know, right now we're saying it's a sprain, reporting
- 10:29Speaker 1: it's sprain. But if there's something where maybe has to
- 10:31Speaker 1: have surgery, something that could change what they do. But
- 10:34Speaker 1: we know Jimmy Garoppolo at one time super Bowl quarterback,
- 10:38Speaker 1: he's a free agent, he's probably gone. Trey Lance, who
- 10:41Speaker 1: was the starter to open the season, who they've invested
- 10:43Speaker 1: a lot in, he's coming back from that foot injury.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And then there's Brock Purty, who showed everybody that he
- 10:49Speaker 1: is a worthy starter. You have players like Fred Warner
- 10:52Speaker 1: saying he's no reason why we're in the super Bowl.
- 10:55Speaker 1: So at the very least, you would expect Rock Purty
- 10:58Speaker 1: and Trey Lance to come back in some form of
- 11:00Speaker 1: competition and training camp next year to see who who's
- 11:04Speaker 1: gonna be their quarterback. But do they have conversations with
- 11:07Speaker 1: Tom Brady, do they flirt with Aaron Rodgers or do
- 11:10Speaker 1: they stay status quote? I mean that that's that's an
- 11:14Speaker 1: interesting thing because two young quarterbacks on those contracts, s
- 11:17Speaker 1: Mark Ross will attest, will alle you do a lot
- 11:19Speaker 1: of things with your roster, but also one thing with
- 11:21Speaker 1: the forty nine, you better have depth at that position
- 11:24Speaker 1: because their quarterbacks team to get hurt every year. It
- 11:26Speaker 1: was last year where we saw and injured Jimmy Garoppolo
- 11:29Speaker 1: come up short just a little bit late against the
- 11:31Speaker 1: Rams and go back not too long ago the fortys
- 11:34Speaker 1: having more injured, maybe they bringing everybody. Have six quarterbacks
- 11:37Speaker 1: available for the forty Thanks to Mark Ross, antonmart Louise
- 11:42Speaker 1: will be back in the East as we continue here
- 11:44Speaker 1: on NFL now, but let's us discuss some news and
- 11:47Speaker 1: notes around the NFL. Will get to Tom pilisera was
- 11:49Speaker 1: down there at the Senior Bowl in Mobile. Some news
- 11:52Speaker 1: regarding the salary cap. Tom will can tell us Patrick
- 11:57Speaker 1: the NFL informed teams within the past hour that the
- 12:01Speaker 1: three salary cap will be a record two four point
- 12:04Speaker 1: eight milli million dollars per club. That is a huge
- 12:07Speaker 1: jump from two d eight point two million dollars per
- 12:10Speaker 1: club this year. The NFL Players Association has begun paying
- 12:14Speaker 1: off some of those COVID delayed benefits. That's still an
- 12:17Speaker 1: ongoing process here. But the new revenue streams that have
- 12:20Speaker 1: come up in terms of the seventeenth game, as well
- 12:22Speaker 1: as the new media deals, the Sunday ticket deal, all
- 12:25Speaker 1: of that is infusing the salary cap, and you can
- 12:27Speaker 1: anticipate that this growth is going to continue here in
- 12:30Speaker 1: the future years. This is also going to allow teams
- 12:33Speaker 1: now to have a better idea of where the cap is,
- 12:35Speaker 1: allowing them to negotiate with some of their own free agents.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Also setting the stage for some of the trade talks
- 12:41Speaker 1: and other things that we're gonna be seeing over the
- 12:42Speaker 1: next couple of months. Patrick, Oh, it's gonna be that time,
- 12:44Speaker 1: but the most wonderful time of the year, Tom, and
- 12:47Speaker 1: we will hopefully have all the coaching searches settled by then.
- 12:50Speaker 1: What can you tell us about the Arizona Cardinals and
- 12:52Speaker 1: where they currently stre I sure hope we will have
- 12:56Speaker 1: the coaching search is not finalized before free agency, Patrick,
- 13:00Speaker 1: The Arizona Cardinals are a team that's conducted a number
- 13:02Speaker 1: of different interviews. Today, they put in a couple of
- 13:04Speaker 1: interview slips on coaches who newly became available for first interviews,
- 13:08Speaker 1: specifically Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callaghan and defensive coordinator lou
- 13:13Speaker 1: on A Rumo. Callahan had an interviewed last year with
- 13:15Speaker 1: the Broncos. He impressed them interviewed for the Colts job
- 13:18Speaker 1: earlier this year. He's not the play caller in Cincinnati,
- 13:21Speaker 1: but a really respected voice for Zach Taylor on that staff.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Got his start in Denver, working with the likes of
- 13:27Speaker 1: Peyton Manning, who has spoken highly of Callaghan through the years,
- 13:30Speaker 1: and for on a Rumo. He had an interview last
- 13:31Speaker 1: year with the Giants. Zero interviews so far in this cycle.
- 13:35Speaker 1: One of the most respected defensive minds in the NFL.
- 13:38Speaker 1: We've seen the work that he's done against some of
- 13:40Speaker 1: the best quarterbacks in the league. The Cardinals, who remember
- 13:44Speaker 1: once upon a time, restarted their search late in the process,
- 13:47Speaker 1: ended up hiring Bruce Arians, who didn't have any interviews either.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Now talking to a guy in lou on a Rumo
- 13:53Speaker 1: who could be a sleeper candidate in this whole thing.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Patrick led that Bengals defense to back to back great
- 14:00Speaker 1: runs and looking back for what it seemed like nobody
- 14:02Speaker 1: wanted the defensive coordinator job in Cincinnati, Juan Romo stepped
- 14:05Speaker 1: up has done a tremendous job. They're speaking of defensive coordinators.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Damiko Ryan's has some options tough he does Patrick, and
- 14:15Speaker 1: the most notable option is in Houston. The expectation, as
- 14:19Speaker 1: we've been reporting, is that Damiko Ryan's will meet with
- 14:21Speaker 1: the Texans in the coming days here and there is
- 14:24Speaker 1: mutual interest on both sides in getting a deal done
- 14:28Speaker 1: to make Damiko Ryan's the new coach for his old team,
- 14:31Speaker 1: the Texas. Ryan's course starred for Houston back in his
- 14:34Speaker 1: playing days. He was drafted there. He also has family
- 14:37Speaker 1: ties to the area. He met his wife in Houston,
- 14:39Speaker 1: She's from that area as well. Ryan's has been one
- 14:42Speaker 1: of the most coveted candidates in this cycle. All five
- 14:45Speaker 1: teams with vacancies put in request to interview him. Yully
- 14:48Speaker 1: took two of those interviews, one with the Broncos, who
- 14:51Speaker 1: were really impressed by him. He was a top candidate
- 14:53Speaker 1: for them and the Texans, where Ryan's appears to be
- 14:56Speaker 1: the top candidate. Nothing done as a few minutes ago here, Patrick,
- 15:00Speaker 1: but certainly sounds like it's head of that direction with
- 15:03Speaker 1: Damiko Ryan's going back to Euston, so potential change there
- 15:06Speaker 1: and we solve the mutual decision to part ways in
- 15:09Speaker 1: Dallas between their offensive coordinator and the team leadership. What
- 15:13Speaker 1: can you tell us about Kellen Moore and his new
- 15:15Speaker 1: landing spot. Kellen Moore did not waste any time. He
- 15:20Speaker 1: has agreed with the Los Angeles Chargers to become their
- 15:23Speaker 1: new offensive coordinator. This is one of the most coveted
- 15:26Speaker 1: jobs around the NFL ever since they parted ways with
- 15:29Speaker 1: Joe Lombardi earlier on this offseason. Brandon Staley wanted a
- 15:32Speaker 1: new identity on that offense, and he gets one in
- 15:35Speaker 1: Kellen Moore, who had one of the most explosive offenses
- 15:38Speaker 1: in the league over the past couple of years in Dallas. Now, obviously,
- 15:42Speaker 1: both sides decided that it was probably the time for
- 15:44Speaker 1: Kellen Moore to move on. More knew that he had
- 15:46Speaker 1: other opportunities, namely this one with the Chargers and for
- 15:49Speaker 1: the Cowboys. Mike McCarthy has never installed or run his
- 15:53Speaker 1: brand of the West Coast offense. Still some things to
- 15:56Speaker 1: figure out in terms of who the offensive coordinator will be.
- 15:59Speaker 1: They'll have to run a process for that. Who's gonna
- 16:01Speaker 1: play caller going to be could be McCarthy himself. What
- 16:04Speaker 1: we do know is that the expectation would be McCarthy
- 16:07Speaker 1: is going to install his offense now, meaning that all
- 16:10Speaker 1: those parts they're surrounding Dak Prescott maybe looking a little
- 16:13Speaker 1: bit different. Come into the Cowboys have had sixty seven
- 16:17Speaker 1: takeaways in the last two years. Apart of why they
- 16:20Speaker 1: were able to be so successful, we have seen some
- 16:22Speaker 1: change as was expected in Dallas, just not at the top.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Tom Pilla Sero live there at the Senior Bowl where
- 16:28Speaker 1: he will be all week ahead of the game. Thank you, Tom,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and we come back here on NFL Now the Chiefs
- 16:34Speaker 1: going back to the Super Bowl and a couple of
- 16:36Speaker 1: defensive players going back to the mic to yell at
- 16:38Speaker 1: James Palmer and some doubts. We'll talk to James about
- 16:41Speaker 1: that next when the Pio kick up the bomb running Innocemtom,
- 16:49Speaker 1: Patrick Clay and Steve Wish is back with you here
- 16:50Speaker 1: on NFL Now and Patrick Mahomes on that injured ankle,
- 16:55Speaker 1: playing through it, playing against quarterback that he is lost
- 16:58Speaker 1: to executive matchups. There was discussion about the name today,
- 17:04Speaker 1: not Today, says that fan and also says the Chiefs
- 17:06Speaker 1: third and ten crucial play at the game. I hope
- 17:08Speaker 1: steps up and finds MBSD for it touches, I mean,
- 17:11Speaker 1: and it's a rope. When you watch it, he basically
- 17:13Speaker 1: throws it off of one leg. That is just armed
- 17:16Speaker 1: talent right there. And so later on third quarter, Oh,
- 17:19Speaker 1: my homes, I would like to have this one back.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Adrian Hubbard jumps on topic. The baul just exploded out
- 17:24Speaker 1: of his hand. Sometimes in that cold weather, it comes
- 17:26Speaker 1: out like a block of ice. Fourth quarter now, Chiefs
- 17:29Speaker 1: leading by seven. Fourth and six, Joe says, jamar down
- 17:33Speaker 1: there somewhere, and he is, I mean, look at it.
- 17:36Speaker 1: The vertical turn to catch it in between two bragnet defenders.
- 17:39Speaker 1: That's with big time playmakers do. So a second a
- 17:42Speaker 1: goal after that catch it, j p Ryan going into
- 17:45Speaker 1: the end zone and the Chiefs take the extracra point
- 17:48Speaker 1: to tie. We're all knoten up at twenty and Joe says,
- 17:50Speaker 1: we'll get the ball two more times we could score
- 17:53Speaker 1: go to the Super bowls third and eight inside of
- 17:55Speaker 1: forties seconds, and Chris Jones says, sit down, and playmakers
- 18:01Speaker 1: Patrick show up when they need to show up. So
- 18:05Speaker 1: a great return by sky More sets up a third
- 18:09Speaker 1: and four from my homes and he's running, hitching his
- 18:13Speaker 1: getting up and then he gets a free pip team
- 18:15Speaker 1: from Joseph Side. I was ready, and that's what a
- 18:18Speaker 1: lot of films will remember. Yeah, the eight seconds left.
- 18:22Speaker 1: It probably had still held marry it from there. But
- 18:24Speaker 1: now they get the Hearson Bucker field goal attempt yards
- 18:29Speaker 1: and the Buck kickers Andy Reid so loving and calls him,
- 18:32Speaker 1: puts it through. And the Kansas City Chiefs are going
- 18:35Speaker 1: to yet another Super Bowl. And and this time Travis
- 18:39Speaker 1: Kelsey is gonna have a chance to play against his
- 18:41Speaker 1: big brother. Haven't talked to him yet, but h cool,
- 18:48Speaker 1: cool scenario to be in. You know, um my mom
- 18:52Speaker 1: can't lose. I'll just leave it at that. It's gonna
- 18:56Speaker 1: be amazing feeling playing against him. And uh, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 1: obviously I respect everybody over there in the Eagles organization,
- 19:01Speaker 1: and um, you won't see me talking too much track
- 19:05Speaker 1: do we get to know how much respect and how
- 19:06Speaker 1: much Uh I love Uh, I love my brother. But um,
- 19:09Speaker 1: it's just it's definitely gonna be Uh. It's gonna be
- 19:12Speaker 1: an emotional game, that's for sure. But I had a
- 19:14Speaker 1: great time there, so fourteen years a long time, huh.
- 19:18Speaker 1: And um, I'm happy for them. I'm happy for the city.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Um Uh, they're passionate, they love football. Matt can't wait
- 19:25Speaker 1: till uh Kansas City and Philly clash. It's gonna be
- 19:29Speaker 1: It's gonna be awesome, man, all right, what a great
- 19:31Speaker 1: what a great super Bowl would be. So many storylines
- 19:34Speaker 1: pre made for the Super Bowl. We've got James Palmer
- 19:36Speaker 1: and Mark Ross back with us. James, we saw Patrick
- 19:40Speaker 1: Mahomes shout out the training staff. We didn't see the
- 19:42Speaker 1: work last week, but he was willing to talk about
- 19:45Speaker 1: everything they did to get him ready to play. How
- 19:47Speaker 1: can we expect that ankle to be approached in the
- 19:49Speaker 1: next couple of weeks. Well, that was one of the
- 19:53Speaker 1: things I was Patrick talking to a lot of people
- 19:55Speaker 1: in the locker room about. Right, we know that he's
- 19:56Speaker 1: going to have a little more time to prepare for
- 19:59Speaker 1: the Super Bowl as opposed to what happened with this
- 20:02Speaker 1: ankle injury the time he'd prepared for this one. But
- 20:04Speaker 1: let me take you through the week, and it's gonna
- 20:05Speaker 1: be similar to kind of what they're gonna do over
- 20:07Speaker 1: these next two weeks I'm told as to where they
- 20:09Speaker 1: kind of manipulated the game plan as it went, as
- 20:12Speaker 1: he felt, and as they put it together. There were
- 20:15Speaker 1: things where they thought, well, we're not gonna put them
- 20:17Speaker 1: under center in these certain places and we can run
- 20:18Speaker 1: them out of the gun. Let's just be smart out
- 20:20Speaker 1: of this right, specifically when you have teams coming at
- 20:23Speaker 1: you with a pass rush like we've seen with Cincinnati
- 20:25Speaker 1: having and like with Philadelphia that led the NFL in
- 20:28Speaker 1: sacks fifteen ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs. So how
- 20:31Speaker 1: do we find ways to keep him safe? That was
- 20:33Speaker 1: when they went through the week, and it was an
- 20:35Speaker 1: interesting practice. On Thursday, I was told he was actually
- 20:37Speaker 1: having a lot of discomfort in that right ankle was
- 20:40Speaker 1: up to his ship and they were wondering what they
- 20:41Speaker 1: were gonna have to even change to a further extent,
- 20:44Speaker 1: But it was really the training staff, as you mentioned,
- 20:46Speaker 1: made some changes in how he was wrapped and how
- 20:48Speaker 1: he was taped, and then they moved forward through Friday.
- 20:50Speaker 1: And that's the other part I want to make make
- 20:52Speaker 1: a point about it is because on Friday it was
- 20:54Speaker 1: less about Patrick's injury and it was all the guys
- 20:56Speaker 1: around him. And that's gonna be one we're gonna be
- 20:58Speaker 1: looking at heading into the Super Bowl. Jujuice Smith Schuston
- 21:01Speaker 1: was battling through something all week and then you saw
- 21:03Speaker 1: it get reaggravated in the game and he could and
- 21:05Speaker 1: finish McCole Hardman with the pelvis injury, couldn't finish the game.
- 21:08Speaker 1: They were down to Marcus Kemp about three receivers out
- 21:11Speaker 1: there around Patrick Mahomes and obviously Travis Kelsey dealing with
- 21:14Speaker 1: the back spasms. These are all injuries. Obviously Patrick's right
- 21:18Speaker 1: ankles the big part of it, but all the other
- 21:20Speaker 1: injuries on the offensive side of the ball that they
- 21:22Speaker 1: need to be concerned with. But there's also game planning
- 21:24Speaker 1: already going on in the locker room with that defensive front,
- 21:27Speaker 1: as I mentioned, with the Philadelphia Eagles playing five across,
- 21:30Speaker 1: maybe more than almost any team does. How do you
- 21:32Speaker 1: find ways to protect Patrick Mahomes from that pass rush
- 21:36Speaker 1: when they bring so many guys and it can be
- 21:38Speaker 1: a hat on a hat and a lot of those
- 21:39Speaker 1: rushing situations. Yeah, I mean it's probably quick passing game.
- 21:42Speaker 1: One player you didn't mention who got hurt, Darius Tony,
- 21:45Speaker 1: player they got mid season. He's been just a jack
- 21:48Speaker 1: of all trades offensively for them, a big part of
- 21:50Speaker 1: their offense. He got hurt, they get him back again.
- 21:53Speaker 1: That opens things up. But let's get back to Patrick Mahomes.
- 21:56Speaker 1: You talked about the injury, the way he battled through
- 21:58Speaker 1: it in so many circumstances. Again, he shows off the
- 22:02Speaker 1: armed talent here, but the high ankles brain that is
- 22:04Speaker 1: a just injury. They have to hope he did not
- 22:07Speaker 1: re aggravate anything here while the adrenaline was flowing in
- 22:10Speaker 1: this game, because that could slow down the rehab process
- 22:13Speaker 1: even though they have two weeks. Look, there no doubt
- 22:15Speaker 1: he's gonna show up. If he showed up for this game,
- 22:17Speaker 1: he's gonna show up for the biggest game out there.
- 22:19Speaker 1: They've got to be careful how to manipulate it. And
- 22:22Speaker 1: the fact that the Chiefs could not run the football,
- 22:25Speaker 1: that's something they're gonna have to figure out. Maybe we
- 22:27Speaker 1: see more Jerick McKinnon. We saw some Pacheco, but McKinnon
- 22:30Speaker 1: with somebody, he was used a lot on protection in
- 22:33Speaker 1: this game. He is a dual threat as a runner
- 22:35Speaker 1: and a pastor who could help out the Homes. But
- 22:37Speaker 1: to see Mahomes what he did for his team in
- 22:40Speaker 1: that game, James, you talked about the way he practiced
- 22:42Speaker 1: all week. That makes everybody else say, I have no
- 22:45Speaker 1: excuse not to go out there and give it the
- 22:47Speaker 1: best that I have. And so that's a look at
- 22:50Speaker 1: the team that will have a chance to talk about
- 22:52Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks and the next couple of decades,
- 22:55Speaker 1: perhaps depending on how long Patrick Mahomes decides to play.
- 22:59Speaker 1: But Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals see their hopes
- 23:02Speaker 1: come up just a little bit short. The weren't as
- 23:05Speaker 1: close this time around, but it probably fall to the Chiefs.
- 23:08Speaker 1: He has two picks and sacked five times, a lot
- 23:10Speaker 1: of those in the first half, and the disappointing end
- 23:13Speaker 1: to Joe Burrows. It's warrible, you know, because this team
- 23:18Speaker 1: has invested so much in each other to get to
- 23:21Speaker 1: this point and um, you know, we've been playing playoff
- 23:24Speaker 1: football really since Halloween. We just didn't know it. You know,
- 23:26Speaker 1: we had to win ten games in Rowe to be here,
- 23:28Speaker 1: and um, you know, just really proud of the way
- 23:31Speaker 1: the guys show up. They are so consistent every single day.
- 23:34Speaker 1: The way they fought to the final whistle today. Um,
- 23:37Speaker 1: you know, it's just it's it's hard to find anything
- 23:40Speaker 1: you wouldn't like about this football team. I feel great about,
- 23:43Speaker 1: you know, the direction that we're headed. Uh that's the
- 23:46Speaker 1: great thing about the NFL. It's not it's not college.
- 23:48Speaker 1: We only got four years you've got as many years
- 23:51Speaker 1: as you want to hopefully, Uh so we'll come back,
- 23:54Speaker 1: have a great offseason and and get better as a team,
- 23:59Speaker 1: get better individually, and and come back next year ready
- 24:02Speaker 1: to go. Joe Burrow doesn't have to worry abou coming back.
- 24:05Speaker 1: James Guy's got one year left, He's got a fifth
- 24:07Speaker 1: year option. How did the Bengals look to the future
- 24:10Speaker 1: here Zach Taylor talking to the media just a few
- 24:14Speaker 1: minutes ago, Patrick did say, Yeah, those discussions about a
- 24:17Speaker 1: Joe Burrow extension already start today internally as they talk
- 24:21Speaker 1: about him and the other players that they're gonna have
- 24:23Speaker 1: to discuss about coming back and returning to the Cincinnati
- 24:27Speaker 1: Bengals roster. But Tooth made things jump out at me
- 24:29Speaker 1: this offseason. We're gonna keep our eye on and leading
- 24:31Speaker 1: into the three season. It's the growth we saw of
- 24:35Speaker 1: Joe Burrow taking another step. I don't want to compare
- 24:37Speaker 1: him to Patrick Mahomes by any means, but you both
- 24:39Speaker 1: remember the explosive plays that we're happening at Cincinnati last year,
- 24:43Speaker 1: then him having to make some adjustments, same as Mahomes
- 24:45Speaker 1: has had to make some adjustments, and when this coaching
- 24:47Speaker 1: staff halfway through the year, really started putting more on
- 24:50Speaker 1: Joe Burrow's plate in terms of what he saw and
- 24:52Speaker 1: what he was allowed to call at the line of scrimmage.
- 24:54Speaker 1: You saw this offense move even better. Remember Week thirteen
- 24:57Speaker 1: against the Kansas City Chiefs. They run for a hundred
- 25:00Speaker 1: and fifty two yards in that game because he checked
- 25:02Speaker 1: two runs constantly from what he saw at the line
- 25:05Speaker 1: of scrimmage. The growth he had there obviously the contract
- 25:07Speaker 1: as a discussion point. But I think the other part
- 25:10Speaker 1: of it, Steve, is how physical this team is. That's
- 25:13Speaker 1: not gonna go away. If guys say, like Jesse Bates,
- 25:15Speaker 1: who's extremely important leave or or Von Bell or Joe Mixon.
- 25:19Speaker 1: There is a physicality to the Cincinnati Bengals that is
- 25:21Speaker 1: known around the league and that isn't changing heading into
- 25:25Speaker 1: next season. Yeah, James, James, no doubt that Cincinnati. He
- 25:29Speaker 1: played a certain style. That physicality he talked about, which
- 25:32Speaker 1: disappointed for me. I didn't think was on fool display
- 25:35Speaker 1: yesterday in the game against the Chiefs. On offensive side
- 25:38Speaker 1: of the ball, the much maligned offensive line that showed
- 25:41Speaker 1: up again where I thought they got dominated five sacks
- 25:44Speaker 1: there from that front. Chris Jones showed why he's the
- 25:47Speaker 1: best defensive tackle in football, really got after Joe Burrow.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I didn't think Joe Burrow was sharp, but then also
- 25:54Speaker 1: on the defensive side of the ball, the lack of
- 25:56Speaker 1: physicality where I just thought they were not aggressive enough
- 26:00Speaker 1: in getting after a compromise Patrick Mahomes. I know they
- 26:03Speaker 1: had a success in the past asked with only rushing
- 26:06Speaker 1: three or four and dropping eight into coverage, but I
- 26:09Speaker 1: thought yesterday they would really try to switch up and
- 26:12Speaker 1: blitz Patrick Mahomes and really bring a lot of heat
- 26:15Speaker 1: to see if he could move around to get him
- 26:17Speaker 1: off of his spot. And the way they played yesterday
- 26:20Speaker 1: I thought was very non aggressive and played in the
- 26:22Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes strengths of what he had. How he had
- 26:25Speaker 1: to play yesterday by letting him just hang out in
- 26:27Speaker 1: the pocket, let the short, quick game getting getting to work,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and then he only had to move at certain times,
- 26:34Speaker 1: namely the big play at the end that's set up
- 26:35Speaker 1: the field goal for the win, where he really had
- 26:38Speaker 1: to show if he could move or not. So Yes,
- 26:40Speaker 1: the Cincinnati team has been defined by their physicality, their
- 26:43Speaker 1: talent by Joe Burrow, but I just thought overall on
- 26:47Speaker 1: the offense and deffensive side of the ball. Yesterday, it
- 26:49Speaker 1: was a little bit of a disappointing game and they
- 26:51Speaker 1: still had a chance to win. That just shows you
- 26:53Speaker 1: how talented and well coached they are. Yeah, painful film
- 26:56Speaker 1: review session coming up for the Cincinnati Bengals. Well see
- 26:59Speaker 1: if they could keep a lot of that team together
- 27:01Speaker 1: and try to make another run in the postseason. We're
- 27:08Speaker 1: back on the NFL now before we go, we got
- 27:10Speaker 1: time for one more thing. Mark Ross, you are up first.
- 27:13Speaker 1: You're world War thing. Well, Patrick, there has been seven
- 27:16Speaker 1: black quarterbacks to start the Super Bowl in NFL history.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Three of those have one, but this is the first
- 27:22Speaker 1: time that two black quarterbacks will face off and start
- 27:25Speaker 1: against each other in the Super Bowl. Eleven black quarterbacks
- 27:28Speaker 1: started the season. Here's two right here the very and Patrick.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I saw Warren Mollon celebrating that this morning. The fantastic
- 27:35Speaker 1: opportunity for those guys and a lot of fans as well. Steve,
- 27:37Speaker 1: you're one more, not forget four players. HBCU ties are
- 27:40Speaker 1: also a playing in this game. But we all always
- 27:43Speaker 1: hear the term I am my brother's keeper. The Cincinnati
- 27:47Speaker 1: Bengal showed that with the utmost class and reverence when
- 27:51Speaker 1: they lifted up Joseph o Si post game after he
- 27:55Speaker 1: made that terrible personal file penalty which allowed the Chiefs
- 27:58Speaker 1: to kick the field goals. Will salute to the Bengals
- 28:00Speaker 1: teammates being their brother's keeping. Now you can see b
- 28:04Speaker 1: bj right net to Osa at his locker during that
- 28:07Speaker 1: interview we showed earlier omar Baraueves or one more well
- 28:12Speaker 1: we had done at Kelsey, Travis and Jason Kelsey's mom
- 28:15Speaker 1: on the show on Friday, we asked her her thoughts
- 28:18Speaker 1: on what it would mean to her if they met
- 28:21Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl. She said it was something that
- 28:23Speaker 1: they've been dreaming about since they were ten years old,
- 28:26Speaker 1: since they grew up in Cleveland. They thought or hope
- 28:28Speaker 1: they might have done it as Browns. But but here's
- 28:32Speaker 1: what else she had to say, dreams are coming true.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I know that they've been thinking about this since they
- 28:38Speaker 1: were ten years old. The scenario was that they would
- 28:41Speaker 1: be playing for the same team and it would be Browns,
- 28:43Speaker 1: but that didn't work out. So anyway they were playing
- 28:48Speaker 1: in the NFL, there won't be they won't be on
- 28:51Speaker 1: the same field and they won't be on the field
- 28:54Speaker 1: at the same time, but they will be playing you know,
- 28:58Speaker 1: hopefully if it works out in the Super Bowl, that
- 29:01Speaker 1: would be awesome. Um, you know it's elation, but also
- 29:07Speaker 1: you have to worry about someone's going to come out
- 29:09Speaker 1: a loser, and um, that's gonna be rough. But there
- 29:13Speaker 1: won't be any fistic cuts on that yet. Great stuff
- 29:17Speaker 1: from Donna storylines. One of the great storylines will be
- 29:21Speaker 1: following their Super Bowl fifty seven. Yeah. I also considered
- 29:25Speaker 1: her eyes a little bit of tampering from Donna Kelsey
- 29:27Speaker 1: as well. She's trying to make this thing happen. We'll
- 29:30Speaker 1: see my my one more thing before we go. Guys.
- 29:32Speaker 1: The Chiefs and the Eagles have an opportunity here. Whoever
- 29:35Speaker 1: wins the game in State Farms Stadium coming up on
- 29:38Speaker 1: February twel twelve will have more wins at State Farm
- 29:41Speaker 1: Stadium than the Arizona Cardinals did in two Both of
- 29:45Speaker 1: those teams went in there. The Kansas City Chiefs did
- 29:47Speaker 1: it in week one, the Eagles did it a few
- 29:50Speaker 1: weeks later. The Cardinals only won one game at home.
- 29:53Speaker 1: So it's just watching the NFL network on behalf of everybody.
