- 0:26Speaker 1: gonna say it. It feels like the longest season we've had
- 0:29Speaker 1: to review. It's quite long, except for that one season
- 0:32Speaker 1: a couple of seasons ago that was thirty episodes.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yes, he's nineteen or something.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I need more to happen. I need us to get
- 0:38Speaker 1: to the catfish. We're gonna get to the catfish and
- 0:41Speaker 1: then we're gonna it's gonna be a tell all.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's gonna be the end.
- 0:43Speaker 1: It's gonna be a new season.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Anyway, so we're here to talk about that. Before we
- 0:48Speaker 1: get into it, I need to remind you of our disclaimer.

- 1:02Speaker 1: funny things. And last week I wore a Jesus T shirt.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I didn't even think about this, Honestly, guys, I bet
- 1:09Speaker 1: some of you noticed too. I wore a shroud of
- 1:12Speaker 1: turin don't laugh Jesus T shirt and.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I talked about blow Jaws.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I talked about sixty nine y while I was wearing
- 1:23Speaker 1: a T shirt with Jesus's face.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Jesus.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Let me just apologize publicly bad so inappropriate. I actually
- 1:30Speaker 1: was like shit, should I take that down? Anyway? I apologize.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I'm not always thinking it was funny though.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And like I said, we're offensive. Yeah, So if yours

- 2:37Speaker 1: Before we get into this recap, I do have to
- 2:40Speaker 1: ask you, Beatrice, whether you have a takeaway.
- 2:43Speaker 2: My only takeaway is like, why are we watching Cody
- 2:45Speaker 2: pretend to be a good dad for literally forty five
- 2:48Speaker 2: minutes and I constantly talk about like, no, actually, I'm
- 2:51Speaker 2: really close with my daughters. Actually I really love all
- 2:54Speaker 2: of my kids. Actually I'm a really good dad.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Like are you though? Beatrice is also the one
- 3:02Speaker 1: who designs our thumbnails, so you can tell how she
- 3:04Speaker 1: feels about Cody in this episode. Yeah, what do I have?
- 3:07Speaker 1: It was so boring. I got nothing, sorry, Maddie that
- 3:11Speaker 1: you weren't let into the Church of Latter day Saints
- 3:15Speaker 1: and Jesus Christ and stuff. A bunch of saints and
- 3:19Speaker 1: Jesus Christ and a salamander and I think there was
- 3:22Speaker 1: a pacaderm in America. Sorry about it.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So that's my takeaway. So without further ado, let's get
- 3:29Speaker 1: into our recap of season nine, episode seven, and.
- 3:35Speaker 2: More girls than Cody can handle question Mark. Hmm, okay, whatever,
- 3:42Speaker 2: So we start the episode with Cody. This is like
- 3:45Speaker 2: a recap of last week basically, but Cody's telling five
- 3:49Speaker 2: of his girls Isabelle, Aurora, Brianna, Savannah, and Gwen Savanna.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Savannah is so cute.
- 3:56Speaker 2: She's such a little baby. She reminds me so much
- 3:59Speaker 2: of my little sister at that age, like almost to
- 4:02Speaker 2: a teen, and she's so sweet.
- 4:04Speaker 1: She's such a punky, I know.
- 4:07Speaker 2: But he tells all five of them, Hey, I'm gonna
- 4:09Speaker 2: take you guys to a beach trip. It's gonna be
- 4:12Speaker 2: a daddy daughter like weekend or whatever. It's for Isabelle's
- 4:15Speaker 2: twelfth birthday. And of course all of the girls are
- 4:17Speaker 2: super excited. And it's funny because Cody brings up like
- 4:22Speaker 2: part of the reason why he wants to do this
- 4:24Speaker 2: is because the anthropology students a couple weeks ago pointed
- 4:27Speaker 2: out the fact that he's not as close with his
- 4:31Speaker 2: daughters as he is with his sons. So this is
- 4:33Speaker 2: totally a response to that which I think you had
- 4:36Speaker 2: theorized about last week. Yes, and so you are right
- 4:39Speaker 2: because you're fake psychic and yeah, Cody just wants to
- 4:42Speaker 2: prove that he's close with his daughters, and Robin also
- 4:48Speaker 2: told him that if he like maintains the relationship with
- 4:52Speaker 2: them at this age, then he will have an easier
- 4:55Speaker 2: time to maintain it when they're older in like high
- 4:58Speaker 2: school and college.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, And at some point in the episode we
- 5:04Speaker 1: have Cody sank I forget who said it. I'm tired,
- 5:09Speaker 1: so keep up with me, but like somebody said, what
- 5:12Speaker 1: the archaeologist said, yeah, was really shocking to Cody. Yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 1: And you could kind of see it in the moment
- 5:19Speaker 1: when they were at dinner or whatever and they bring
- 5:21Speaker 1: it up. He shocked. He's concerned at his image because
- 5:26Speaker 1: of course he's a narcissist, and so since they've been
- 5:29Speaker 1: there so two months or whatever, it is like he's
- 5:31Speaker 1: just been worrying about it and how he can restore
- 5:35Speaker 1: his public image as a father. And that is the
- 5:38Speaker 1: entire reason that we are having this episode. But it
- 5:41Speaker 1: was interesting that one of the wives admitted that he
- 5:44Speaker 1: was really taken aback by that comment.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yes, and I forget who it was to. I want
- 5:48Speaker 2: to say it was like maybe Robin, maybe Robin, because
- 5:51Speaker 2: Robin's also pretty heavy in this episode, and she's very
- 5:54Speaker 2: much like defending Cody and saying, like, no, he's actually
- 5:58Speaker 2: a really good dad. He loves all of his kids,
- 6:00Speaker 2: there's no question about it. And so it seems like
- 6:03Speaker 2: maybe both of them are concerned about how Cody is
- 6:06Speaker 2: being perceived in the public eye. And it's really crazy
- 6:10Speaker 2: to see it from that light, because I'm sure back
- 6:12Speaker 2: then when this aired, people are like, oh, it's wholesome,
- 6:16Speaker 2: he's taking his daughters out to the beach, But no,
- 6:19Speaker 2: it's totally because Cody's worried that everybody thinks that he's
- 6:22Speaker 2: a bad dad. And so then when he's getting ready
- 6:25Speaker 2: for the trip, of course you know he's running late,
- 6:27Speaker 2: and it's chaotic because nobody in this family, especially the adults,
- 6:31Speaker 2: can pack anything in a timely manner or be organized
- 6:34Speaker 2: in any way, shape or form, even when it's only
- 6:37Speaker 2: five kids going on a trip, like it's not that
- 6:39Speaker 2: big of a deal, but like they leave late, and
- 6:42Speaker 2: of course the wives are quote micromanaging Cody on like
- 6:46Speaker 2: what he should be doing and how much he should
- 6:49Speaker 2: be packing, and make sure you do this, and make
- 6:51Speaker 2: sure you do that, and Cody's getting annoyed, and Cody
- 6:54Speaker 2: makes several comments throughout this episode as like digs to
- 6:59Speaker 2: his wives, mainly the OG three, where he's just like, Yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 2: this trip's gonna be like so much easier than bringing
- 7:05Speaker 2: my bitch wives on because nobody's gonna be complaining to me,
- 7:09Speaker 2: nobody's gonna be getting jealous, nobody's gonna be inserting their
- 7:12Speaker 2: relationship politics. Because I know my daughters love me, so
- 7:15Speaker 2: it'll be easy. It'll be good.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he kept making that comparison.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I kind of hated that, yeah, because I'm wondering if,
- 7:22Speaker 2: like Christine and Janelle and Mary watched that after the fact,
- 7:25Speaker 2: and we're.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Like, I'm quite sure the hell. It felt like it
- 7:28Speaker 1: was very pointed toward Christine, and it was like multiple, multiple.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Times he made these comments. It was kind of ridiculous.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And so then Cody and the girls leave and they're
- 7:37Speaker 2: driving to Newport Beach in California. It's only like five
- 7:41Speaker 2: hours away, but halfway through they stop at some diner
- 7:45Speaker 2: and they have breakfast for whatever. I don't care. Then
- 7:50Speaker 2: they get to the actual beach and they're grocery shopping
- 7:53Speaker 2: for food for the next couple days because they rented
- 7:55Speaker 2: like a little beach house and of course, Cody buys
- 7:59Speaker 2: too much stuff, and the girls comment about it because
- 8:03Speaker 2: it's ridiculous. And they get to the beach house and
- 8:06Speaker 2: everybody's on sign they're picking their room.
- 8:09Speaker 1: So I see that you hated this episode.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I didn't hate it. It's just like, oh well.
- 8:14Speaker 1: There was one segment where they're talking to the girls
- 8:17Speaker 1: who go to California on the couch and Savannah's just
- 8:21Speaker 1: like this, sorry about that. I lost my wig. Anyway,
- 8:26Speaker 1: Savannah's like fuck, and I took a picture and I
- 8:30Speaker 1: sent it to you, and I'm like, this is me
- 8:31Speaker 1: watching this episode. But have you ever seen that video
- 8:35Speaker 1: clip of that girl who's in a podcast and she
- 8:38Speaker 1: tips her head back and her wig falls off.
- 8:41Speaker 2: But your life does not.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Oh my god, Oh my god, bruh, we gonna keep
- 8:54Speaker 1: this And she just looks at the interviewer and she's like, bruh,
- 9:00Speaker 1: bra oh my god, I gotta find it, and said
- 9:03Speaker 1: it's so hilarious. Anyway, Savannah is all of us.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Toats because it's just I mean, I think the girls
- 9:12Speaker 2: they're young at this point, so they're like trying to
- 9:14Speaker 2: lean into the fun part of it. But I'm sure
- 9:16Speaker 2: they look back on this trip I would as a
- 9:18Speaker 2: young adult, and I'd be like, man, that was dumb,
- 9:21Speaker 2: because it just it's very obvious that Cody's just trying
- 9:24Speaker 2: to like be like, yeah, I'm the fun dad. And
- 9:26Speaker 2: Cody keeps making these comments about how the wives like
- 9:30Speaker 2: don't trust him or they're worried about how he's gonna do,
- 9:32Speaker 2: and he's like, I'm gonna be fine. It's gonna be
- 9:35Speaker 2: so easy, and it's really not that big of a deal,
- 9:38Speaker 2: like it's just him bringing them.
- 9:40Speaker 1: It isn't, but it's easy to do when you only
- 9:43Speaker 1: have four days. And it kind of shines a light
- 9:46Speaker 1: on how much of an emotional load the other wives
- 9:50Speaker 1: actually take on, because when they do go to the
- 9:51Speaker 1: grocery store, Cody's just buying whatever. He has no list,
- 9:56Speaker 1: he doesn't know how to shop, which the girls call
- 9:58Speaker 1: him out for. You can really see how much the
- 10:02Speaker 1: wives actually do to keep the family together when Cody
- 10:05Speaker 1: has his kids on his own, because remember the last
- 10:08Speaker 1: time Cody had his kids on his own, the ladies
- 10:11Speaker 1: went to San Francisco right and truly almost died while
- 10:15Speaker 1: he burned steaks on the grill.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And Isabelle cut up her foot on that trip too.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Or on that time too, So yeah, I mean, that's
- 10:23Speaker 2: fair to be worried about Cody, and I don't know,
- 10:26Speaker 2: it's just funny to me that he acts like he
- 10:28Speaker 2: does so much for the family when in reality, the
- 10:31Speaker 2: women are really just running the entire shit, Like they're
- 10:34Speaker 2: doing all of the parenting and all of the cooking
- 10:35Speaker 2: and all of the cleaning. Like what is Cody doing
- 10:38Speaker 2: getting his pencil wet?
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and collecting checks right, taking their money.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And like having to grin and bear time with Mary
- 10:45Speaker 2: or Christine for example, like oh god, it's so terrible
- 10:48Speaker 2: for you for the man. And this is where Cody
- 10:52Speaker 2: at the grocery store, like had made a comment too.
- 10:55Speaker 2: He had said something like I don't have to deal
- 10:58Speaker 2: with my whyfe in the relationship politics because all of
- 11:03Speaker 2: my daughters know that I love them. And I thought
- 11:05Speaker 2: that was really poignant because he's again like digging at
- 11:09Speaker 2: Christine and the other wives of just like, well, you
- 11:12Speaker 2: don't know that I love you because I do obviously,
- 11:15Speaker 2: even though I never touch you and I never kiss you,
- 11:17Speaker 2: and I never.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Hang out with you, and I'm favoring Robin overtly exactly.
- 11:22Speaker 2: And then meanwhile, we bought back on over to the
- 11:26Speaker 2: wives and the cul de sac, and we have Maddie
- 11:29Speaker 2: coming over to talk to just Mary and Robin for
- 11:32Speaker 2: some reason about the fact that the LDS Church won't
- 11:35Speaker 2: let her in because she won't denounce her family or
- 11:39Speaker 2: disassociate herself from the family, and because her family is
- 11:42Speaker 2: so public, so they won't accept her to the church.
- 11:45Speaker 2: They won't baptize her. They said that she can still go,
- 11:49Speaker 2: but she can't be baptized, and they were like, we
- 11:52Speaker 2: hope it will make you bitter, we hope, we hope
- 11:55Speaker 2: you'll reconsider in the future when your family is not
- 11:59Speaker 2: as public.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I just don't understand how these Christian religions. And we
- 12:05Speaker 1: can debate whether Mormonism is Christian, which Michelty just had
- 12:09Speaker 1: a whole reel about that apparently, but essentially your religion
- 12:15Speaker 1: is supposed to be centered upon Jesus Christ, who at
- 12:19Speaker 1: the time of this cross affection was crucified with a
- 12:21Speaker 1: thief who was not baptized, we would presume, who was
- 12:26Speaker 1: probably a sinner and did some bad things. But Jesus
- 12:29Speaker 1: turned to him and said, on this day in paradise,
- 12:31Speaker 1: I will see you. I will see you in paradise
- 12:33Speaker 1: there's nothing you gotta do in order to get into
- 12:36Speaker 1: the Kingdom. And yet with churches like Catholicism, Catholics and
- 12:40Speaker 1: also Mormonism, you've got to go through this board of
- 12:43Speaker 1: white men in order to be admitted into their religion.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It's really distasteful, yep, and really gross. And you get
- 12:50Speaker 1: a sense that Maddie understands, like, oh wow, Like, if
- 12:53Speaker 1: you're going to be that way, then why would I
- 12:56Speaker 1: ever want to be a part of your religion. I
- 12:57Speaker 1: wouldn't ever.
- 12:58Speaker 2: She straight up says that she's like, I'm never going
- 13:01Speaker 2: to join the Mormon Church, and I won't join any
- 13:03Speaker 2: church for that matter, because she says her belief system
- 13:07Speaker 2: really only fits with the Mormon Church, it doesn't fit
- 13:10Speaker 2: with anything else. But she's just not going to be
- 13:14Speaker 2: a part of something like that if they're going to
- 13:17Speaker 2: make her jump through all of these hoops and make
- 13:18Speaker 2: her denounce her family, like, she's just not going to
- 13:20Speaker 2: do that. And I'm really glad that she is standing
- 13:24Speaker 2: on that principle. And she's very clear to say, like
- 13:27Speaker 2: I don't agree with polygamy, like I don't endorse it,
- 13:29Speaker 2: I don't want it for my life. You know, I
- 13:31Speaker 2: love my family and that's their choice and stuff, but like,
- 13:35Speaker 2: I don't have to support it to be with my
- 13:38Speaker 2: family or whatever. So I just think this whole segment
- 13:41Speaker 2: was kind of stupid because we knew that the Mormon
- 13:43Speaker 2: Church was going to deny her anyway.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Well, I'm sure at the time people did not know that.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I wonder what Mormons thought about.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I think it was a really bad look for the.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Church totally, But I wonder what they thought about watching this.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I'm sure some who are probably heavy in the church
- 13:58Speaker 2: are like, well, yeah, of course, and like except you
- 14:01Speaker 2: because your family's a bunch of poligamists. But I just
- 14:03Speaker 2: think that that's so stupid. And Maddy even brings up
- 14:06Speaker 2: Jesus in this too. She's like, Jesus wouldn't say that, No,
- 14:09Speaker 2: it wouldn't deny me from believing in him or going
- 14:13Speaker 2: to worship him in church.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Like not at all. What the hell is Antichrist? It's
- 14:17Speaker 1: total now I should be wearing my shroud of shit.
- 14:24Speaker 2: So yeah, Mary and Mary and Robin are both surprised
- 14:29Speaker 2: by this, and Robin even says like, I'm super sorry
- 14:33Speaker 2: that this happened to you, Maddie. And then Janelle on
- 14:35Speaker 2: the couch is like, I'm shocked that the Mormon Church
- 14:37Speaker 2: wouldn't allow her. So it seems like it took everybody
- 14:40Speaker 2: by surprise to me. I'm watching this, I'm like, well, duh,
- 14:43Speaker 2: because the Mormon Church is very anti polygamy, so like
- 14:46Speaker 2: it doesn't surprise me. But it's like, I just wonder
- 14:50Speaker 2: what regular smegular Mormons think when they watch this, Like.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Hm, hmm, do you think this is cool?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Because I don't, But whatever, Who am I just a
- 14:59Speaker 2: bitch and a wa So then we go back to
- 15:01Speaker 2: the beach with Cody and the girls and he takes
- 15:04Speaker 2: them to a little theme park and he didn't take
- 15:07Speaker 2: into account that Savannah and Gwen wouldn't really want to
- 15:10Speaker 2: ride all of the crazy rides, and so he kind
- 15:14Speaker 2: of does feel a little bad for them. He feels
- 15:16Speaker 2: bad that they might feel left out. But then he
- 15:19Speaker 2: continues to go on the rides with Aurora, Brienna, and Isabelle,
- 15:24Speaker 2: and you know, it's like a fun little day at
- 15:27Speaker 2: the theme park. It seems cute or whatever.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I think.
- 15:30Speaker 2: We bop on over to the wives on the couch
- 15:33Speaker 2: and Robin says something like, you know, I was hoping
- 15:37Speaker 2: that this trip Cody would have like a lot of
- 15:39Speaker 2: hard to heart talks with the girls and like one
- 15:41Speaker 2: on one time with them, but it seems like they're
- 15:44Speaker 2: just partying and having fun.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Kids don't want to have one on one serious talks
- 15:49Speaker 1: with their parents. They want to have fun. That's the
- 15:51Speaker 1: language of your children, and you want to meet them
- 15:53Speaker 1: where they are in order to connect, especially.
- 15:56Speaker 2: At this age. It's not like they're older adults that
- 15:58Speaker 2: are like starting to think about their life and think
- 16:01Speaker 2: about big things. Like they're literally twelve.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And so sabadas like seven exist, So of.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Course they want to do fun things and eat pizza
- 16:09Speaker 2: and mac and cheese with their dad at the beach.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Like it's not that deep, So I don't know, whatever,
- 16:16Speaker 2: they have fun at the beach house, and I think
- 16:19Speaker 2: Christine and Robin talk about their kids, like Robin talks
- 16:22Speaker 2: about Aurora and she's so amazing and outspoken, it's just
- 16:27Speaker 2: an adventurer, and how Brianna is like quiet but like
- 16:30Speaker 2: she's really funny. And then Christine talks about Gwen.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Gwen's awesome. Actually I know she's a truth teller.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yep.
- 16:40Speaker 1: In the moment, she will tell the truth.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yep.
- 16:42Speaker 2: But Christine on the couch is like, well, she's got
- 16:45Speaker 2: her good and bad days. So if you catch on
- 16:48Speaker 2: a good day, she's great. But you catch her on
- 16:50Speaker 2: a bad day, oh, leave her alone. I'm like, wow, okay, whatever, Christine.
- 16:57Speaker 2: And then we go back on home to the cul
- 17:00Speaker 2: de Sac where we have a little segment with Mary
- 17:03Speaker 2: and Janelle, and Mary's in her haunted house and her
- 17:07Speaker 2: hair looks great.
- 17:09Speaker 1: It stopped. It's such a bad hair season for Mary,
- 17:14Speaker 1: this season of her life with like the blonde, highlighted,
- 17:19Speaker 1: fried layered but longer.
- 17:23Speaker 2: It looks significantly less fried than it does in present day.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I get and this one at.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Least has a little, it flows a little.
- 17:30Speaker 1: It does not. It is so bad. It's so bad
- 17:33Speaker 1: for collaring, It's so bad for absolutely everything. Mary, get
- 17:38Speaker 1: your shit together, honey.
- 17:39Speaker 2: She looks kind of like she's getting spray dands. Yes,
- 17:42Speaker 2: oh indeed, I'm just like, what are we doing? We're
- 17:44Speaker 2: in Vegas, Like, just go sit down in the sun
- 17:45Speaker 2: for a little bit.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Actually, don't you want to be different? Don't you want
- 17:48Speaker 1: to be that person who's not like everybody else? I
- 17:50Speaker 1: would be like as pale as possible in Vegas. Yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 1: I'd be so screening all day for real though.
- 17:57Speaker 2: But Mary's in her little office and she says, you know,
- 17:59Speaker 2: for months ago, Janelle came to be four.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Years ago, four score and seven years ago, she came.
- 18:07Speaker 2: To me and asked if I would be interested in
- 18:09Speaker 2: going in the therapy. And I think, you know, she's
- 18:11Speaker 2: waited long enough that she deserves an answer. And so
- 18:14Speaker 2: then she walks on over very quickly to Janelle's house.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Well, because she's lost a lot of weight.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah, she definitely has.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Yeah, she's changing. I wonder why. Hu seems like she's motivated,
- 18:26Speaker 1: Yeah by something.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Motivated by a little banana.
- 18:29Speaker 1: So inspire, Yeah, something, what could it be?
- 18:34Speaker 2: She barges on over into Janelle's house and did you
- 18:36Speaker 2: notice she kind of slammed the door. Yeah, I'm like,
- 18:39Speaker 2: what are you doing?
- 18:39Speaker 1: Just kick the door open like the kool aid man?
- 18:43Speaker 2: Seriously. So she barges in, and Janelle's in the kitchen
- 18:48Speaker 2: and Mary sits down at her little kitchen bar. Mary's like,
- 18:52Speaker 2: you want to sit down or something like jeez, chill out,
- 18:57Speaker 2: and so Jenne's like, no, it's final stand. And she
- 18:59Speaker 2: now kind of knows what this is about. And she's
- 19:02Speaker 2: like a little nervous, she's got her walls up, and
- 19:05Speaker 2: Mary's like, well, I've been thinking, I've been praying, and
- 19:08Speaker 2: I've gotten a lot of encouragement from our god unkole
- 19:11Speaker 2: Lob that you know, I should move forward with therapy
- 19:16Speaker 2: with you. And then Janelle is like taken aback by this.
- 19:18Speaker 2: She's shocked and actually cries, which we don't really see Janelle.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I was trying to remember any other time I've seen
- 19:25Speaker 1: Janelle cry. Yeah, she definitely keeps it very garrison, but
- 19:29Speaker 1: Garah's trying to not show us when she's crying. Yep,
- 19:33Speaker 1: Like she hardly ever cries. She doesn't really show a
- 19:36Speaker 1: lot of emotion in general, Like maybe she'll smile or
- 19:39Speaker 1: laugh or whatever, but there's a lot that she keeps behind.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And she even says like it takes a lot for
- 19:44Speaker 1: me to cry, like the only time I ever really
- 19:46Speaker 1: cries when I'm truly shocked about something. And so with
- 19:51Speaker 1: Mary saying that she agreed to go to therapy with her,
- 19:54Speaker 1: Janelle is shocked. She's overcome with emotion, and she's like, well,
- 19:57Speaker 1: that's great, and then they actually end up hugging, and
- 20:00Speaker 1: when Mary hugs her, she starts crying and they're looking
- 20:05Speaker 1: forward to therapy together, which I can't remember how many
- 20:10Speaker 1: sessions they actually went to. I don't think it's a lot,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and I think nothing is resolved.
- 20:14Speaker 2: No.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I think Mary shows up with her walls up, unwilling
- 20:18Speaker 1: to admit to anything, and Janelle probably senses that, and
- 20:22Speaker 1: they don't go anywhere with it.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, because I don't think
- 20:25Speaker 2: there's much that comes out of this, and I think
- 20:28Speaker 2: this is when everything starts to fall apart and then
- 20:30Speaker 2: the catfish comes out, and so maybe their therapy gets
- 20:33Speaker 2: put on the back burner.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Right because we have to deal with that. I did
- 20:36Speaker 1: think that it was poignant when Janelle or Mary said
- 20:41Speaker 1: that we have spent half our lives together. And you
- 20:45Speaker 1: can really see based on their emotions, even though it's
- 20:48Speaker 1: on camera, even though I'm sure this scene was set
- 20:50Speaker 1: up beforehand, you can see the emotion in these women,
- 20:54Speaker 1: like these ancient wounds that they have given each other
- 20:57Speaker 1: that are in them. Did you see that real that
- 21:01Speaker 1: I sent you like two days ago?
- 21:03Speaker 2: Which one?
- 21:04Speaker 1: So it's this two guys in a therapy podcast setting.
- 21:10Speaker 1: It's called secondhand therapy or something like that, and the
- 21:14Speaker 1: guy was talking about speaking to his therapist, and he
- 21:17Speaker 1: says at some point, his therapist says, well, we should
- 21:22Speaker 1: acknowledge that you have definitely buried a lot of your trauma,
- 21:27Speaker 1: but we also need to acknowledge that you buried your
- 21:32Speaker 1: trauma alive. And when he was talking about it, I'm like, damn, yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 1: like all of those things that you bury, and we're
- 21:42Speaker 1: seeing Mary and Janelle and all of the things that
- 21:44Speaker 1: they had to bury just in order to coexist in
- 21:48Speaker 1: this weird family structure, all of those things were buried alive,
- 21:53Speaker 1: and so they're still alive and now here we are,
- 21:55Speaker 1: what twenty years later. Yeah, and because they're willing to
- 21:58Speaker 1: move a little bit, they're both crying because it's a lie.
- 22:01Speaker 1: It is, it's a libe in them. Totally very poignant,
- 22:04Speaker 1: I thought.
- 22:05Speaker 2: And I think when Mary had said that about you know,
- 22:07Speaker 2: we've spent half of our lives together, she was like,
- 22:09Speaker 2: we should make it mean something like after all this time,
- 22:12Speaker 2: we really should just work on it. And I think
- 22:16Speaker 2: that that's really great. It's kind of sad to me though,
- 22:18Speaker 2: it's like we're watching this like they don't even talk
- 22:21Speaker 2: and they don't have a relationship, Like even after all
- 22:24Speaker 2: of this time. It's kind of a bummer that, like,
- 22:27Speaker 2: even after all of the divorces, like we can't just
- 22:29Speaker 2: like come together. And I don't know whose fault that
- 22:33Speaker 2: is really, because Janelle is also a bit of an
- 22:35Speaker 2: avoidant person, but Mary is just as bad. And Mary
- 22:41Speaker 2: now is just like doing her own thing.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I guess with I think Mary just got to the
- 22:45Speaker 1: point where she's like, I don't need any of you
- 22:47Speaker 1: all anymore, and she does not care. And I do
- 22:50Speaker 1: think a lot of us get to that point after
- 22:52Speaker 1: trying year after year after year, in whatever kind of
- 22:55Speaker 1: relationship it is, You're just like, Okay, well then fuck
- 22:57Speaker 1: it right, I'm gonna move on. I'm gonna live my life.
- 23:00Speaker 1: And that's where she is.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, And I guess that that's fair. I think that's
- 23:05Speaker 2: is he leaf blown. I swear you're gonna go yell
- 23:09Speaker 2: at him.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I have to maybe yell at him, like what is
- 23:12Speaker 1: he doing?
- 23:12Speaker 2: Why?
- 23:13Speaker 3: Now? He was literally out there, was sitting on the couch,
- 23:15Speaker 3: falling asleep in his recliner with his stupid laptop pretending
- 23:20Speaker 3: to work anyway, What were we saying, I'm just pitch ass.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Oh well it wasn't my husband. He's in his recliner.
- 23:31Speaker 1: It's my neighbors. So I didn't mean it. He's not
- 23:34Speaker 1: a pitch ass. I'm sorry. Yeah, doesn't he know my podcast?
- 23:39Speaker 1: Doesn't he know my famous on the internet?
- 23:42Speaker 2: So where were we anyway? So marynge No, they're working
- 23:47Speaker 2: on a relationship, but not really.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Here goes.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Oh my god. And so then we end the episode
- 23:56Speaker 2: with Cody and the girls at the beach. They go
- 23:59Speaker 2: to the beach, they go to a different beach, Huntington Beach,
- 24:03Speaker 2: to go boogie boarding with the sharks, and then they
- 24:06Speaker 2: go back to their little bungalow. And this is where
- 24:09Speaker 2: we hear a little bit more from Cody about how
- 24:12Speaker 2: he's got a million kids and if he didn't think
- 24:15Speaker 2: that all of his kids were great people, he wouldn't
- 24:18Speaker 2: keep having kids. So he's just gonna keep progreating because
- 24:23Speaker 2: he likes his kids.
- 24:24Speaker 1: As long as Robin wants to.
- 24:26Speaker 2: And that's he brought up Robin. He's like, we're limited
- 24:29Speaker 2: to what Robin wants to do. But she doesn't like
- 24:32Speaker 2: when we talk about her reproduction, so I'll just leave
- 24:35Speaker 2: it at that, which is just a precursor to like
- 24:37Speaker 2: the next episode or two, when she announces to the
- 24:40Speaker 2: family that she's pregnant again. So it's just kind of silly.
- 24:44Speaker 2: I mean, I I was watching this and I was thinking,
- 24:47Speaker 2: you know, maybe there was a time where Cody did
- 24:49Speaker 2: genuinely love all of his children, but just you know,
- 24:52Speaker 2: now that they're adults and that they can speak for themselves,
- 24:56Speaker 2: and that they pushed back on him, like especially during
- 24:58Speaker 2: COVID and stuff, and pushed back on his continued favoritism
- 25:03Speaker 2: of Robin. He doesn't actually love them because love for
- 25:07Speaker 2: him is conditional, it's not unconditional, and so I think
- 25:11Speaker 2: at this time, you know, maybe there was a part
- 25:13Speaker 2: of him that was coming out of like, yeah, I
- 25:15Speaker 2: love all my kids. I think they're all great, But
- 25:17Speaker 2: that's because they were young, right, and they couldn't push
- 25:20Speaker 2: back as much well.
- 25:21Speaker 1: And the family was still together and it was working,
- 25:24Speaker 1: and he was still in charge of the money. And
- 25:27Speaker 1: now Robin's the legal wife and so everything's coming together.
- 25:31Speaker 1: So yeah, it's great until the kids get older, until
- 25:34Speaker 1: your wives leave you, until people start calling you on
- 25:37Speaker 1: your bullshit like this podcast. Yeah, exactly.
- 25:41Speaker 2: And then at one point at the end of this episode,
- 25:44Speaker 2: Cody was talking about how, you know, he was looking
- 25:48Speaker 2: for things that were wrong in his relationships with his kids,
- 25:51Speaker 2: mainly because the anthropologists pointed that out, and you know,
- 25:56Speaker 2: the wives have been pointing out the fact that he
- 25:58Speaker 2: has a disparity between some of his relationships with his kids.
- 26:02Speaker 2: But you know, on this trip, he found all of
- 26:04Speaker 2: the things that were actually right. And he's like, you know,
- 26:08Speaker 2: like this wasn't a bonding trip because I'm already bonded
- 26:11Speaker 2: with my girls, like I already have a great relationship
- 26:13Speaker 2: with them, And I'm like, really, do you know, because
- 26:16Speaker 2: Isabelle has a lot of father wounds, like even to
- 26:20Speaker 2: this day, yes, and even in this trip, you can
- 26:22Speaker 2: kind of tell like the focus wasn't necessarily on her,
- 26:25Speaker 2: like we had like a little birthday celebration with her
- 26:28Speaker 2: at the very end, but like he was chumming it
- 26:31Speaker 2: up with Aurora and Brianna a lot more, and he
- 26:35Speaker 2: was like more affectionate with Savannah, like isabel was just
- 26:37Speaker 2: kind of in the background, and I was going, yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 2: and I kind of felt for her. And maybe it's
- 26:43Speaker 2: because they're Christine's kids, I think. So, Like we've talked
- 26:46Speaker 2: about before many times on the pod that you know,
- 26:49Speaker 2: maybe Cody had like his relationships with his kids or
- 26:53Speaker 2: a reflection of his relationships with that particular wife. And
- 26:56Speaker 2: so of course Christine's kids are left behind, and you know,
- 27:01Speaker 2: and Robin's kids are favored, and Janelle's kids have more affection.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Like it's just sad.
- 27:08Speaker 1: It is sad. And when they were at their various
- 27:10Speaker 1: activities in California, you could just see when they were
- 27:12Speaker 1: walking around, all the girls trying to hold onto his
- 27:14Speaker 1: shirt or puld his hand or just be close to him.
- 27:17Speaker 1: It really felt to me like they are starving, well,
- 27:21Speaker 1: not Aurora, not Brianna, the other girls are starving for
- 27:24Speaker 1: attention from him.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Yeah, And that kind of got to me. And honestly,
- 27:27Speaker 2: like when Aurora and Brianna kept saying dad over and
- 27:31Speaker 2: over again in reference to Cody, like that was kind
- 27:34Speaker 2: of bothering me a little bit. Like as just a daughter,
- 27:38Speaker 2: I'm just like, he's not your dad.
- 27:42Speaker 1: The that right, right.
- 27:43Speaker 2: You know, I know it's so petty, but it's just
- 27:45Speaker 2: like I wonder what the younger girls were thinking at
- 27:48Speaker 2: the time. And maybe it's different for them because they
- 27:51Speaker 2: grew up in polygamy and so they're used to sharing
- 27:54Speaker 2: their dad with all of their siblings and stuff, and
- 27:57Speaker 2: so it's not that big of a deal. But you
- 27:58Speaker 2: can just tell that Cody really does favor Robin and
- 28:04Speaker 2: Robin's kids. H I think so, yeah, more than any
- 28:07Speaker 2: of the other ones, Like, no matter what he says,
- 28:09Speaker 2: you know, I think there was a time where he
- 28:11Speaker 2: loved all of his kids before Robin. And that's it.
- 28:15Speaker 2: And so let me get to the preview for the
- 28:17Speaker 2: next episode. We have Robin talking to Christine about signing
- 28:21Speaker 2: the adoption paperwork because we are going to be moving
- 28:23Speaker 2: forward with that, and I think we do see the
- 28:25Speaker 2: adoption very soon where they go all go to court
- 28:28Speaker 2: and it's like this big old thing, and Christine talks
- 28:30Speaker 2: about how polygamists don't typically win adoption cases or any
- 28:35Speaker 2: cases for that matter, because they're polygamists and nobody likes polygamists.
- 28:40Speaker 2: And then we have Mary talking about her health issues.
- 28:43Speaker 2: She lost thirty pounds in like a six week period
- 28:46Speaker 2: or four week period or something, and you know, she's
- 28:49Speaker 2: really worried, so she goes to the doctor and the
- 28:51Speaker 2: doctor totally scares her about cancer. I remember that episode.
- 28:55Speaker 1: So why does she get like a bad PAP smear
- 28:58Speaker 1: or something.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Thanks, So, does she have the HPV or something like
- 29:03Speaker 2: that maybe, but.
- 29:04Speaker 1: She would she have gotten that little Cody? Okay, but
- 29:09Speaker 1: where would he have weren't they each other's first Oh no,
- 29:11Speaker 1: he went to college.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he had that.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Case inappropriate speculation. Sorry, So I remember I thought it
- 29:20Speaker 1: was the ech pylori, isn't it the h pylori?
- 29:25Speaker 2: Cody was doing a lot of soaking in college.
- 29:27Speaker 1: So well, I know that Mary ends up having the
- 29:30Speaker 1: each pylori, which is some bacteria in your stomach or
- 29:33Speaker 1: something like that. But really what's happening is she's not
- 29:36Speaker 1: eating because she's planning to meet up with Sam and
- 29:39Speaker 1: she doesn't want to be bigger, she wants to be smaller,
- 29:41Speaker 1: so she's diety.
- 29:42Speaker 2: She's dieting, but she's worried that everybody's going to catch
- 29:45Speaker 2: on to the fact.
- 29:46Speaker 1: So it's cancer. It could be cancer.
- 29:48Speaker 2: So he's gonna go to the dock roo and be like,
- 29:50Speaker 2: can you please say it's cancer?
- 29:52Speaker 1: We can't rule it out.
- 29:54Speaker 2: And it's so messed up because she's got a family
- 29:56Speaker 2: history of cancer, so like you're going to the cancer Yeah, yeah,
- 29:59Speaker 2: You're go to the doctor, and you're like getting all
- 30:02Speaker 2: this fear mongery.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Listen, I don't mean to make fun no, anything like that.
- 30:06Speaker 1: But it's just that we know what's going on right now.
- 30:09Speaker 1: That's the thing with Mary and the thing. I feel
- 30:11Speaker 1: like that's the reason. It's because she wants to lose
- 30:14Speaker 1: weight for her mia is totally yeah for her.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Lesbian yeah, yes. And then Robin is stressed out. I
- 30:21Speaker 2: guess like the way they edit it in the preview
- 30:23Speaker 2: is like Robin's stressed out about Mary's health issues. But
- 30:26Speaker 2: really I think it's Robin being stressed out about telling
- 30:29Speaker 2: the family that she's pregnant again because Cody and her
- 30:31Speaker 2: are fucking a lot. They're hunching a lot, and I
- 30:35Speaker 2: think Mary has an announcement and Robin also has an announcement.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I know Robin's gonna say she's pregnant, but I can't remember.
- 30:42Speaker 1: What Mary And now I could have cancer.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I'm worried. I went to the doctor and they did
- 30:48Speaker 2: a sea tea scan.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I have the I'm just gonna be saying that for
- 30:54Speaker 1: the rest of the see this.
- 30:55Speaker 2: The people are gonna think you're serious. People thought we
- 30:59Speaker 2: were serious when we can't making fun of the anthropologists
- 31:03Speaker 2: and we kept calling them archaeologists. We got some comments
- 31:05Speaker 2: being like unctually it's anthropologists. We know, we know they're archaeologists,
- 31:14Speaker 2: ding dongs. So people are gonna think you're miseducated because
- 31:18Speaker 2: you're saying age priory, but that's what it is, right.
- 31:23Speaker 1: We'll see whatever in the upcoming episodes. I'm sorry if
- 31:26Speaker 1: I'm wrong. I'm often wrong. I apologize.
- 31:29Speaker 2: And we're in a dumpster, y'all.
- 31:31Speaker 1: So is there anything else that we need to say
- 31:33Speaker 1: to these beautiful rock homes before we get a boat
- 31:35Speaker 1: of the heel.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Beautres Well, if you love our podcast, please do us
- 31:39Speaker 2: a favor and show us your love by going to
- 31:41Speaker 2: your favorite podcast platform and leave us a glowing five
- 31:44Speaker 2: star review. It really helps us grow the pod and
- 31:47Speaker 2: it really just means a lot to our arts. So
- 31:49Speaker 2: thank you in advance.
- 31:50Speaker 1: We will be back later this week to talk Welcome
- 31:53Speaker 1: to Plathfill. Potentially is the finale I think it is.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I don't know that it's the finale. I think it is,
- 31:59Speaker 1: but it might be the but we're going to be
- 32:00Speaker 1: covering us come back for that. Until then, please do
- 32:04Speaker 1: not forget that we've nothing but love for you and
- 32:07Speaker 1: peace and
