- 0:10Speaker 2: Hey, everybody.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode of Long
- 0:14Speaker 1: Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy, and today
- 0:18Speaker 1: we are discussing Autumn in the City, the final Fallen
- 0:23Speaker 1: to Love movie for Hallmark twenty twenty two, before we
- 0:27Speaker 1: jump into Countdown to Christmas. This movie originally aired on Saturday,
- 0:31Speaker 1: October fifteenth on the Hallmark Channel. Before we tell you
- 0:35Speaker 1: everything we think about this movie. You can always find
- 0:37Speaker 1: us outside the podcast. We are at Megan and Wendy
- 0:41Speaker 1: on Instagram, on TikTok, on Twitter, wherever you like to
- 0:44Speaker 1: hang out. You can also get an up close and
- 0:48Speaker 1: personal Hallmark experience by jumping into our Girls Gone Hallmark
- 0:52Speaker 1: Facebook group. It's easy to find just search Girls Gone
- 0:54Speaker 1: Homework or click the link in our show notes.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I love it there, we do. I love the people
- 1:00Speaker 2: we have there. I've been trying to watch, like the
- 1:04Speaker 2: number of members we have there because I'm like, I
- 1:09Speaker 2: just want to see if people bounce out of there,
- 1:10Speaker 2: if it's not they're not a fit for them their
- 1:13Speaker 2: jim Yeah, yeah, And I just noticed because like, I
- 1:16Speaker 2: feel like it's kind of a different crowd there. I
- 1:21Speaker 2: feel like the people that are mostly interactive. Are kind
- 1:25Speaker 2: of on the same page as us in terms of
- 1:28Speaker 2: what we like from our homework movies. Yes, I hear
- 1:31Speaker 2: what you're not saying, do you? Yes?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Okay, we welcome everyone in that group. We'd love for
- 1:36Speaker 1: you to join it. Check it out, see if it
- 1:37Speaker 1: is for you. How else can they get in touch
- 1:40Speaker 1: with us?
- 1:40Speaker 2: They can always email us at Megan and Wendy at
- 1:43Speaker 2: gmail dot com.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Before we talk specifically about autumn and the city, we
- 1:47Speaker 1: like to talk about what's going on in the world
- 1:48Speaker 1: of homework. And I think we're kind of in like
- 1:51Speaker 1: a lull the calumn before the countdown to Christmas.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Storm you think, I mean, I know it's like days
- 1:58Speaker 2: away now, Yeah, I'm tomorrow. It starts tomorrow, Yeah, I do.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I just think we're not getting like the flood of
- 2:05Speaker 1: new information they're like gearing up for countdown to Christmas.
- 2:08Speaker 2: In terms of Hallmark News. Yeah, got you, Yeah, yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 2: yeah it was.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I was scrolling through and I saw this article and
- 2:16Speaker 1: I've actually seen this mentioned several times and I hadn't
- 2:19Speaker 1: really interacted with it, but I clicked on this article
- 2:22Speaker 1: and it is about the Gift of Peace, a Hallmark
- 2:25Speaker 1: movie coming in Countdown to Christmas, starring Nikki de Loach.
- 2:29Speaker 1: But what I found interesting when I looked at this
- 2:31Speaker 1: is they're saying it is Hallmark's first faith based movie.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm very curious to see how this is going to
- 2:39Speaker 1: differ from something like A Shoe Attics Christmas, A Godwink Christmas,
- 2:44Speaker 1: where there are references. I mean, they're very clearly Christian
- 2:48Speaker 1: based movies.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Right, So how's this one going to be different? Yes,
- 2:52Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know either. We'll have to
- 2:54Speaker 2: tune in and watch. I can't remember if that is
- 2:57Speaker 2: on our list of movies to watch.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You're gonna have to take a look at our show notes,
- 3:01Speaker 1: which you can find at Megan and Wendy dot com
- 3:03Speaker 1: to find out all of the movies we are watching
- 3:06Speaker 1: this season.
- 3:06Speaker 2: We have a full list over there. There's just so
- 3:09Speaker 2: many of them. I can't remember what we chose off
- 3:12Speaker 2: the top of my head. Neither can I. Okay, Chesapeak
- 3:14Speaker 2: Shores concluded it did. I I'm telling you, I'm still watching.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'm on season two now. Oh wow, you're powering through.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I am how many episodes are in season one? Ten? Okay? Okay,
- 3:26Speaker 2: think it's like ten episodes? Each roughly ten. I just
- 3:31Speaker 2: started season two. It's funny to watch back to back
- 3:34Speaker 2: seasons because I'm sure when you watch it in real time,
- 3:37Speaker 2: you don't notice the differences between cast members, right, and
- 3:42Speaker 2: it picks up at the same timeframe. But clearly the
- 3:46Speaker 2: lead who plays her name's Megan. I don't know how
- 3:51Speaker 2: to pronounce her last name. It's like, oh r, why
- 3:54Speaker 2: or yeah, she's the pretty like brunette with the long hair.
- 3:58Speaker 2: In season two, she's clearly pregnan and hiding it. Yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 2: and it's a lot of like big boxes in front
- 4:04Speaker 2: of her or big bags or big trench coats. It's
- 4:07Speaker 2: supposed to be the end of summer, and I'm like,
- 4:10Speaker 2: what's going on here? So of course I googled. I
- 4:13Speaker 2: was like, is Megan what is it? Ory pregnant in
- 4:16Speaker 2: season two? And she was so interesting, not that it
- 4:20Speaker 2: has any like bearing on like her character at all,
- 4:24Speaker 2: but I just was like, oh, how funny. Like from
- 4:26Speaker 2: Date and Night.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I watched the first half of the first episode. I
- 4:30Speaker 1: only stopped because I had to go do something and
- 4:33Speaker 1: I was already in my mind watching with My Girls
- 4:36Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark hat on. I don't know if a recap
- 4:38Speaker 1: series is in our future. But why you don't like it? No,
- 4:42Speaker 1: I'm just saying, no concrete plans have been made, no
- 4:45Speaker 1: concrete plants, and I'm already on season two.
- 4:48Speaker 2: That's what I'm thinking.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I don't know that you're gonna be willing to go
- 4:50Speaker 1: back and rewatch.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Sure I would if there is an audience for it.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I would gladly. Okay, I would gladly, And I know
- 4:59Speaker 2: listener and Michelle had sent me a message last night
- 5:01Speaker 2: She's like, I'm so sad at the time of this recording,
- 5:05Speaker 2: it is Monday. She sent me a message Sunday night
- 5:09Speaker 2: at the conclusion of the Chesapeake Shores and nally she said,
- 5:13Speaker 2: I'm so sad it's over. I might have to go
- 5:17Speaker 2: back and rewatch ah, so we might get one listener there.
- 5:22Speaker 1: If you would listen to a Chesapeake Shores recap podcasts,
- 5:25Speaker 1: please let us know. I've been wondering if we ever
- 5:28Speaker 1: need to break away, like into two podcasts. Oh interesting,
- 5:32Speaker 1: Like is that going to be better for the girls
- 5:34Speaker 1: gone Hallmark brand to live on its own?
- 5:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And then would Chesapeake Shores live there or would it
- 5:41Speaker 1: be like a limited run like the Gilmour guys. You know.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I'm super into it doesn't need its own podcast that is,
- 5:52Speaker 2: of course under long story short productions, but is its
- 5:56Speaker 2: own feed I can see the merch already. I love it.
- 6:03Speaker 2: We might have to put yeah twenty twenty three.
- 6:06Speaker 1: If you have any thoughts on this, either send us
- 6:08Speaker 1: an email, drop us a DM hop into our Facebook group.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Let's discuss I'm hyped girl? Okay? Can I hear a
- 6:15Speaker 2: synopsis for this movie? Sure thing? Optimistic Piper gives herself
- 6:19Speaker 2: two months to find her passion in New York City
- 6:22Speaker 2: as she bounces between temp jobs. She and her jaded
- 6:26Speaker 2: neighbor discover the beauty of the city together Starrn, Amy t. Garden,
- 6:30Speaker 2: and Evan Roderick.
- 6:33Speaker 1: As we mentioned, this movie originally air October fifteenth, twenty
- 6:36Speaker 1: twenty two. It was filmed in Vancouver on a back
- 6:40Speaker 1: lot made to look like New York City. However, our
- 6:43Speaker 1: Eagle Eyed Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group members pointed out
- 6:46Speaker 1: that New York City was added as a filming location.
- 6:50Speaker 1: To IMDb, there were a couple of scenes that I thought,
- 6:56Speaker 1: either that's the greatest green screen I've ever seen, or
- 7:00Speaker 1: they're in New York. Can you recall which ones one
- 7:04Speaker 1: where they're in Washington Square Park, which is with the
- 7:07Speaker 1: giant arch. Yeah, yeah, I thought they're sitting in front
- 7:10Speaker 1: of a fountain. I believe in that scene. Maybe not,
- 7:12Speaker 1: but I do remember our Washington Square Park scene and
- 7:14Speaker 1: I thought, well, either we have leveled up with our
- 7:17Speaker 1: green screens or they're there.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask this really stupid question, Okay, is Vancouver
- 7:24Speaker 2: on the West coast of Canada or the East coast
- 7:26Speaker 2: or the west coast of Vancouver is like directly north
- 7:28Speaker 2: of Seattle. It's like very easy drive from Seattle. So
- 7:31Speaker 2: you really think that they may have done some like
- 7:35Speaker 2: pickup shots.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I don't know, but it seems like if they were
- 7:39Speaker 1: actually on location in New York City, they'd be shouting
- 7:41Speaker 1: that from the rooftops. So if anybody knows, or do
- 7:47Speaker 1: they just use New York as a filming location, because
- 7:48Speaker 1: there's quite a bit of New York.
- 7:49Speaker 2: City be role. Maybe there was a ton of b
- 7:53Speaker 2: roll there. Let's talk more news and notes, Okay. Amy T.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Garden obviously most known for Freday night Light. She was
- 8:01Speaker 2: most recently seen in the Summer's Heart of the Matter,
- 8:05Speaker 2: which we had some issues with. I will leave a
- 8:08Speaker 2: link to that episode in our show notes, and she
- 8:12Speaker 2: was in Last Christmases Christmases? Is that right? Last Christmases?
- 8:19Speaker 2: What's the word or that's the possessive? My Christmas Family Tree,
- 8:24Speaker 2: which I still say is a great holiday movie, definitely
- 8:27Speaker 2: one of my top five of twenty twenty one.
- 8:30Speaker 1: She also will star in Christmas Class Reunion this year,
- 8:33Speaker 1: Countdown to Christmas Arizon, December tenth. This is the one
- 8:37Speaker 1: about the class that calls themselves the Cursed Class.
- 8:40Speaker 2: We don't really know what that means. No, I think
- 8:42Speaker 2: I want to watch that one too. I don't know
- 8:44Speaker 2: if it's on our official list, but I think it is.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It Okay, I have found that well watching this movie,
- 8:51Speaker 2: they were obviously promoting Countdown to Christmas. I know you
- 8:54Speaker 2: don't watch the immercial as the matter effect, Well, they
- 8:57Speaker 2: really leaned hard in that, Noel, uh huh, I know
- 9:01Speaker 2: we're definitely not watching that one. Yeah. The previous for
- 9:04Speaker 2: that did nothing for me.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Zero. However, I did see quite a few previews for
- 9:09Speaker 1: We Wish You a Married Christmas Alex Good to Me,
- 9:12Speaker 1: which we are reviewing next week. That will be our
- 9:14Speaker 1: kickoff episode. I would like to say I actually was
- 9:17Speaker 1: gonna close with this, but while we're talking about it,
- 9:20Speaker 1: if you have seen this show Smigadoon on Apple TV plus,
- 9:25Speaker 1: we wish you a married Christmas is giving me smigadoon vibes,
- 9:29Speaker 1: let us know if you.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Agree, We'll let Megan know because I've never watched Shemigadoon.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Smgadoon is a story about a couple in crisis, having
- 9:38Speaker 1: trouble in their relationship, and they stumble upon a town
- 9:41Speaker 1: where everyone behaves.
- 9:42Speaker 2: As if they're in a musical. Oh. Bec they're forced
- 9:45Speaker 2: to stay there. Oh, this is not a musical though,
- 9:49Speaker 2: is it? Are? You're just thinking it's slightly I mean,
- 9:52Speaker 2: all these people are a Christmas Carol. I didn't I
- 9:55Speaker 2: didn't really pick up on. It appeared to me that
- 9:59Speaker 2: they were living in like some sort of Christmas Carol situation. Oh,
- 10:01Speaker 2: I'm super into it. I'm excited to watch it. We'll
- 10:06Speaker 2: find out next week.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Everin Roderick also has his own holiday movie, A Tale
- 10:13Speaker 1: of Two Christmases.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Is that a dog movie? No Is.
- 10:18Speaker 1: The star of the movie has an opportunity to live
- 10:21Speaker 1: out two Christmases where she discovers is her like old
- 10:26Speaker 1: hometown boyfriend or her new Big City Boyfriend.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Is this that a Hallmark movie? Yes, it's not one
- 10:32Speaker 2: that we're gonna watch though, right. I don't even remember
- 10:34Speaker 2: looking at this. We discussed it in our Countdown to
- 10:37Speaker 2: Christmas preview episode. I do not believe it is on
- 10:39Speaker 2: our list. He's the leader.
- 10:42Speaker 1: No, I believe he plays one of the two love interests.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Oh well, I'm telling you he's a baby. Tyler hines
- 10:47Speaker 2: to me, like, I think he's real cute. His character
- 10:52Speaker 2: Austin was a little bit problematic for me. We'll talk
- 10:54Speaker 2: about that in a second. But I did a little
- 10:57Speaker 2: bit of a deep dive on this kid because it
- 11:00Speaker 2: looks like a kid. I don't know how old he is.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I should probably be like, I'm sure he's over eighteen. Anyway.
- 11:04Speaker 2: He is a former hockey player. Oh, he played competitively.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I don't know if that was college or whatever. He
- 11:12Speaker 2: also played the lead in the Netflix show Spinning Out,
- 11:17Speaker 2: which is like an ice skating show. I never watched it,
- 11:21Speaker 2: and funny enough, he played someone named Chaz Bryant in
- 11:25Speaker 2: the reboot hybrid of b H nine O two one. Oh.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I might have to go back and watch that show.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I only watch it in its first run. We see
- 11:33Speaker 2: a lot of former BH nine two one oh stars
- 11:35Speaker 2: great her Hallmark scenes. It's so weirdn't it.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Pop quiz who's older Amy T Garden or Evan Rodrick?
- 11:43Speaker 2: I'm sorry, AMYT. Garden's older? She is, Yeah, Amy T.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Garden is a youthful thirty three years old. Evan Roderick is.
- 11:51Speaker 1: A baby coming in at age twenty seven. She's an
- 11:55Speaker 1: older woman in this and you know she plays a
- 11:58Speaker 1: woman who's turning turning thirty. She's ag appropriate for this movie.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I don't have any quibbles with that. Anything else you
- 12:03Speaker 1: want to talk about before we talk about our first impression?
- 12:05Speaker 2: A couple minor ones. Misty she plays the Broadway actress
- 12:10Speaker 2: Piper works for Yeah in this movie. She's played by
- 12:14Speaker 2: Brittany Willisey and I only know her from Chesapeake Shores.
- 12:18Speaker 2: She plays Lee and she's the ex girlfriend of Trace,
- 12:22Speaker 2: so she's like a musician. Uh huh. She's got huge
- 12:25Speaker 2: hair in that show huge And if you guys have
- 12:28Speaker 2: watched season one on Chesapeake Shores, please weigh in. I
- 12:30Speaker 2: don't understand what's going on in her hair is so
- 12:33Speaker 2: big in Chesapeake Shores. Yes, Trace is the Jesse Metcalf character, Yes,
- 12:39Speaker 2: that's correct. Also, finally, Laura Sualtis plays Patricia. She's Austin's
- 12:45Speaker 2: mom and in a six Degrees of Kevin Bacon moment
- 12:49Speaker 2: a Fellow Girls Gone Homework group person member friend of ours.
- 12:56Speaker 2: She is actually friends in real life with this actress
- 13:01Speaker 2: and she says that she does two to three homework
- 13:03Speaker 2: movies a year now. I thought she looked very familiar
- 13:06Speaker 2: to me, like she's got those dimples that are very distinctive,
- 13:10Speaker 2: very distinctive. And I was like, I know I've seen
- 13:12Speaker 2: her like in other things. I was looking through her IMDb.
- 13:16Speaker 2: She's been in a bunch of Hallmark movies, including The
- 13:18Speaker 2: Christmas Waltz, which is one of my top five movies.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But she was also recently in Netflix's Again, Netflix's Is
- 13:30Speaker 2: That Right Devil in Ohio, which is like about like
- 13:35Speaker 2: a cult sort of So I knew like I had
- 13:40Speaker 2: seen her like recently. Love that for her. Yeah, I'm excited.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I feel like, like, e, like we know somebody in
- 13:48Speaker 2: the Hallmark acting world. Six Degrees of Hamemark totally. What
- 13:53Speaker 2: was your first impression of automnicity? Uh oh uh oh.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I needed Megan to fill in some gaps of this
- 13:59Speaker 2: movie because I dozed off several times.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we had to rewatch the end before recording.
- 14:05Speaker 2: My first impression is those juices looked terrible. Oh oh
- 14:09Speaker 2: my gosh, Oh my gosh. We're gonna talk about that
- 14:13Speaker 2: scene in a second. Let me put this on my
- 14:15Speaker 2: note here. Okay, those juices did look terrible. There was
- 14:18Speaker 2: like a straight up blue one, and I was like,
- 14:19Speaker 2: who's drinking blue juice?
- 14:20Speaker 1: They were just like they didn't look appetizing, Like there
- 14:23Speaker 1: was no put some fake ice in there.
- 14:25Speaker 2: People. There was like a big gap between like the
- 14:28Speaker 2: like melty and gross and separated and who wants a
- 14:31Speaker 2: juice that's not ice cold? Somebody in the props department
- 14:34Speaker 2: make better juices.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Well, while Wendy's making a note, we're gonna move on
- 14:39Speaker 1: to what we liked about this movie.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Number one for me is I really liked Evan Rodrick.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I thought he was super cute. I think I might
- 14:46Speaker 2: have already said that, and I look forward to his
- 14:50Speaker 2: Christmas movie. However, however, his character at times played a
- 14:57Speaker 2: real jerk, and I thought he leaned really hard into
- 15:01Speaker 2: the stereotypes of being a millennial, Like, for example, when
- 15:08Speaker 2: he gets the job at the New York Chronicle. His boss,
- 15:12Speaker 2: who I thought was great in this movie, like really
- 15:17Speaker 2: like nailed it. But he was like, here's an assignment
- 15:21Speaker 2: and he's like, great, I'll have it to you by
- 15:24Speaker 2: the end of the week. Or another time the boss
- 15:27Speaker 2: was like, here's an assignment, blah blah blah, and he goes, yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 2: something really my vibe And I'm like, excuse me, you
- 15:34Speaker 2: are working for a made up newspaper, sir. You can't
- 15:39Speaker 2: get at get your asked to work. And there was
- 15:42Speaker 2: even like one he comes in late and he's like, yeah,
- 15:45Speaker 2: mornings really aren't my thing. I was like, what, you
- 15:48Speaker 2: have a job? Like, I know he didn't want that job.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Was he purposely trying to get fired from that job?
- 15:55Speaker 2: Like what was happening there? Did he take the job? Well?
- 15:57Speaker 2: He honestly like he was given the job. He didn't
- 15:59Speaker 2: even have to interview for the job because of his mom.
- 16:02Speaker 2: He got tricked into it, tricked into it, like really, well,
- 16:07Speaker 2: he should be an adults and say like, no, this
- 16:09Speaker 2: is not for me.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I know, I agree that borders on hyjinxy. When he
- 16:14Speaker 1: shows up and he's like, Okay, here's your desk, and
- 16:17Speaker 1: he's like, wait, I thought this was an interview. That
- 16:18Speaker 1: is his moment to say, look, can we talk about this.
- 16:22Speaker 1: At one point, his boss asks for edits and he's like, yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 1: I'm not going to have that to you today.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I thought it's a newspaper. It's not like you can
- 16:30Speaker 1: just turn it in whenever you want. They got a
- 16:32Speaker 1: big open space that they need to fill with your article.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Yeah. It was HYJIINXY Yes, And I just think, like,
- 16:41Speaker 2: do people really act like that? I hope not. He's
- 16:45Speaker 2: twenty seven in real life, right, I don't know, be professional.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Dude, right, you never know who you're gonna need to know.
- 16:52Speaker 2: True.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I think we got our first booty call reference on Hallmark.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Oh for sure.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Austin shows up Piper's door. He thinks the former tenant
- 17:03Speaker 1: is still there, and she goes nine o'clock bottle of wine.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I know what this is. Yeah, And while they don't
- 17:09Speaker 2: directly call it out, I appreciated that. I chuckled. I
- 17:12Speaker 2: have more to talk about in that scene later on
- 17:15Speaker 2: in that did you see that moment? Okay? M hmm.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I liked the cast of characters in this movie as
- 17:20Speaker 2: a whole. I really liked the friendly couple who works
- 17:23Speaker 2: at the cafe. I liked Austin's mom. I thought, I
- 17:26Speaker 2: even told you today, I go, she's so chill in
- 17:28Speaker 2: this scene, Like I wish I could be chilling the
- 17:30Speaker 2: like in real life. Like that liked, I liked. I
- 17:35Speaker 2: liked what was that a bird or something? Dragonfly just
- 17:40Speaker 2: flew into the baby. Yeah, weird, I wrote Keystone Cafe Besties.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I liked them a lot.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Were you taking fashion notes on Amy t Garden's wardrobe
- 17:49Speaker 1: after our recent Style episode?
- 17:52Speaker 2: She wore these like clunky black shoes a lot. Oh,
- 17:57Speaker 2: they were like black flats. They were kind of boring.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Her style choices were super boring. I thought, well, why
- 18:05Speaker 2: are you laughing?
- 18:06Speaker 1: Because I you know, I would like everyone to tune
- 18:11Speaker 1: into next week's episode On Tuesday.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Up top, we're doing.
- 18:15Speaker 1: A little bit of follow up on our recent Style episode,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and I was watching her with a renewed eye, like
- 18:22Speaker 1: she at one point wore a skirt which is similar
- 18:24Speaker 1: to something I own with like a utility jacket, and
- 18:26Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I would never.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Put those two pieces together. But I was like, I'm
- 18:30Speaker 2: totally gonna make that outfit. I just she was always
- 18:33Speaker 2: in like the stripe, black and white shirt with a
- 18:35Speaker 2: black pant or a black skirt and maybe sometimes a
- 18:37Speaker 2: red jacket and maybe sometimes not. That's what I felt like,
- 18:41Speaker 2: very fall cute, And you thought she looked boring. Do
- 18:44Speaker 2: you think, Okay, it's cold in New York right now,
- 18:49Speaker 2: wouldn't she have a heavier jacket on? Well, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 2: you and I were in New York and very very
- 18:56Speaker 2: early fall, and it was hot and human. That's true.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Midfall is chilly. She's from Nebraska. It's cool. She's Nebraska
- 19:05Speaker 2: is nothing. Yeah, maybe you're right, Maybe you're right. Anything
- 19:10Speaker 2: else for you for what.
- 19:11Speaker 1: You liked, Nothing that we haven't discussed.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I have just one minor note. I'm happy that we
- 19:16Speaker 2: got like a fall. Oh yes, I'm fall vibes. Sure
- 19:20Speaker 2: we got fake leaves, but really, what else are we
- 19:22Speaker 2: gonna do? There were a lot of fake leaves, but you.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Can't there's no way to do a real leaf.
- 19:27Speaker 2: The one she puts on his door. Oh god, I know.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And there are scenes where they're walking down the street
- 19:34Speaker 2: and the trees behind them are changing. I don't.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I don't think the trees on the streets of New
- 19:40Speaker 1: York are deciduous changing trees, but that's all right.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I appreciated the pop up orange in the background. Okay, like,
- 19:47Speaker 2: throw some fake leaves on that prep tree on the corner.
- 19:51Speaker 2: What'd you wish for? I thought Amy t Garden's character
- 19:54Speaker 2: was almost annoyingly chipper oh and a little naive m
- 20:00Speaker 2: and I was like, please chill out some h too
- 20:03Speaker 2: much for me.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I wish they had given Piper a more realistic timeline.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Two months to find your passion is simply not enough.
- 20:12Speaker 2: What has she been doing the last thirty years.
- 20:14Speaker 1: It's not even enough to necessarily find ad job, let
- 20:19Speaker 1: alone many jobs.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Totally, I think they could have easily made a longer
- 20:23Speaker 2: timeline work. She gives it six months, she gives it
- 20:26Speaker 2: a year, Show a montage, show her checking in and
- 20:30Speaker 2: she's still in this terrible job. Four months later and
- 20:32Speaker 2: still sketching. Show her sketching in different locations in different seasons. Yess,
- 20:37Speaker 2: a year later and it's still fall. We can still
- 20:38Speaker 2: have autumn and New York and she's checking back in
- 20:40Speaker 2: with herself. I like it, and make it work, like
- 20:43Speaker 2: she has to find a job that she doesn't love
- 20:45Speaker 2: to pay the bills while she's trying these other things.
- 20:47Speaker 2: That's why they should have given her job at the
- 20:48Speaker 2: cafe in the night evenings so she could like because really, like,
- 20:53Speaker 2: how is she paying the rent and she's working jobs? Yeah, yes,
- 20:57Speaker 2: it's not consistent. Find a job that pays bills and
- 21:00Speaker 2: then during the day exactly. I love that idea of
- 21:03Speaker 2: working in the restaurant.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I just didn't think in two months. Two months is nothing.
- 21:09Speaker 1: You can't find your passion. She had been working in
- 21:12Speaker 1: her dad's business, doing what her parents expected of her,
- 21:16Speaker 1: and realizing this is not what I want for my life.
- 21:19Speaker 2: It's going to take a minute. Yeah, I really wanted
- 21:23Speaker 2: this to feel like we were in New York City.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I was disappointed with how it looked esthetically. Were you
- 21:30Speaker 2: watching too closely? I was watching too. I love New
- 21:33Speaker 2: York City. I love New York City, and I just
- 21:36Speaker 2: was like, that is not New York City, except for
- 21:39Speaker 2: a few moments that it was. I guess right, but
- 21:42Speaker 2: Keystone Cafe very clearly on a back lot when they're
- 21:45Speaker 2: walking down the street and they got all these extras
- 21:47Speaker 2: crossing multiple directions the street. You can't there's no neighborhood
- 21:51Speaker 2: in New York where there's not multiple car strip you
- 21:53Speaker 2: buy at all times. You know, you can't just cross
- 21:55Speaker 2: diagonally across the small street corner right. And someone in
- 21:59Speaker 2: our group said too that they thought there was like
- 22:02Speaker 2: a a deck scene or they went to like the
- 22:05Speaker 2: roof or whatever, and it was the same exterior shot
- 22:08Speaker 2: that they used in that movie where the guy sang,
- 22:13Speaker 2: oh my God, me me New York. I don't know
- 22:15Speaker 2: what it was called. Do you know what you're talking about?
- 22:17Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm talking about? Broadway Stars? Yes,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I can't remember the name of it. I'm sorry.
- 22:22Speaker 1: No, I wish Austin's mom didn't suck so much.
- 22:26Speaker 2: See, I liked her.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I like the actress. I thought they made her character
- 22:33Speaker 1: almost unbelievably.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Terrible to him.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Really, there's a scene, and you may have been sleeping
- 22:40Speaker 1: at this point, but there's a scene at the party,
- 22:43Speaker 1: and it's the party where Austin is about to tell
- 22:47Speaker 1: Piper that she's not been accepted as the illustrator by
- 22:52Speaker 1: his publisher, and just prior to that, you know, she
- 22:56Speaker 1: he says to her, I'm sorry it didn't work at
- 22:58Speaker 1: the newspaper, but I have to pursus to my passion,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and she says, I'm sorry, I just can't support that. Oh,
- 23:03Speaker 1: And I felt like that line was out of character
- 23:06Speaker 1: because this is clearly a woman who in a later
- 23:09Speaker 1: scene she tells Piper, you need to knock doors down
- 23:12Speaker 1: right right. It wasn't as if he was saying, Mom,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I don't want to do anything, I just want to
- 23:17Speaker 1: live off of your success or he was trying to
- 23:19Speaker 1: be a writer. He had written this children's book. When
- 23:21Speaker 1: they told him to do more, he did more. He
- 23:24Speaker 1: created this proposal, he went back, and he fought for it.
- 23:27Speaker 1: He gets a publishing contract, and she says, damn, I'm
- 23:32Speaker 1: sorry that doesn't work for me. I thought it fell
- 23:34Speaker 1: out of character with this clearly very successful woman. Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, I kind of hate you,
- 23:40Speaker 1: and I did appreciate that there was redemption. We'd get
- 23:44Speaker 1: the One year later she comes around to be on
- 23:46Speaker 1: his side, and I can appreciate as a mom.
- 23:50Speaker 2: You're trying to make it work.
- 23:52Speaker 1: So I'm going to get you this job because I
- 23:54Speaker 1: think this is what you need. But once you realize he's.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Doing it, let him go them break down his own doors. Yeah. So,
- 24:03Speaker 2: I mean being a mom is hard. You don't always
- 24:06Speaker 2: give the best advice, right, So Okay, I'll give her
- 24:11Speaker 2: a little grat Okay, all right, let's talk about did
- 24:13Speaker 2: you see that? Okay, that juice scene. Yuh huh. She's
- 24:16Speaker 2: carrying those like two tiered trays of juices. First of all,
- 24:20Speaker 2: shout out to the actor who played the fashion show
- 24:25Speaker 2: like coordinator or whatever. I really enjoyed her like small
- 24:29Speaker 2: scene of like giving Piper looks when Piper was too enthusiastic.
- 24:35Speaker 2: But the juices, we have seen a movie in the
- 24:39Speaker 2: last two years that we've been doing this that similar
- 24:42Speaker 2: situation happened, like somebody had something and like basically throws
- 24:46Speaker 2: the juice drinks on the product and then there's this
- 24:51Speaker 2: whole like we have to make all these dresses again
- 24:54Speaker 2: or whatever. But the scene was so poorly executed in
- 24:58Speaker 2: this movie because literally like she dumps them, like she
- 25:01Speaker 2: doesn't run into it, she turns around and then like
- 25:05Speaker 2: throws it on it. You know, she's coming in with
- 25:08Speaker 2: these teetering trays of jews. You know what is going
- 25:10Speaker 2: to happen? There was so many Come on, you're out
- 25:13Speaker 2: of fashion show, You're not going to be more careful rights?
- 25:15Speaker 2: And what's the dresses? What are the dresses doing? Right there?
- 25:19Speaker 2: Great question here's my follow.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Up, Why not Postmates?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Right? You're now paying a human person to spend an
- 25:28Speaker 2: hour of their time going to this far away location
- 25:31Speaker 2: to get these juices.
- 25:32Speaker 1: When you could just pay the delivery fee.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Right. Here's my here's another follow up. I was wondering, like,
- 25:38Speaker 2: who paid for that? Did she have to pay out
- 25:40Speaker 2: a pocket for that and then gets reinbursed, or did
- 25:41Speaker 2: like somebody give her money to pay for those? Or
- 25:44Speaker 2: how does that work? Great question because they had not
- 25:47Speaker 2: been pre ordered, because they gave her the order. Right question? Right?
- 25:51Speaker 1: You know?
- 25:52Speaker 2: I as a follow.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Up on my wish, the book dedication in the one
- 25:56Speaker 1: Year in the Future flash forward scene is to my mom,
- 26:00Speaker 1: who taught me to forge my own path. And I
- 26:02Speaker 1: just wonder did she right when she was so trying
- 26:07Speaker 1: to force you into her past? This is a question
- 26:10Speaker 1: in a job interview, would you be as honest as
- 26:13Speaker 1: Piper was in her interview with the temp agency?
- 26:16Speaker 2: Not in not in my youth, I wouldn't have Maybe now,
- 26:21Speaker 2: maybe now It could seem more relatable if the interviewer
- 26:26Speaker 2: was someone of a certain age, right, But if I
- 26:30Speaker 2: was like twenty two twenty five trying to get like no, No,
- 26:34Speaker 2: I wouldn't be like, I'm just trying to find my
- 26:36Speaker 2: dream job. That makes you sound a little flighty. Well,
- 26:39Speaker 2: that's what I wonder.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Is that an asset where she's saying I was living
- 26:43Speaker 1: the life my parents wanted for me.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I'm trying to find myself. I don't know what that is.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I think the fact that she's interviewing at a temp agency,
- 26:51Speaker 1: not for a specific position, makes that make sense.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I just I wonder if that's good advice to fall
- 27:00Speaker 2: I don't know. I think like someone my age, if
- 27:03Speaker 2: I was like, I've been a mom for the last
- 27:06Speaker 2: eighteen years and now I'm trying to like transition back
- 27:09Speaker 2: into the sure there, I'd be a little more transparent
- 27:12Speaker 2: about what my goals were. Yes, I like it anyway.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Don't you think she should have taken the job at
- 27:17Speaker 2: the museum seemed like a real good fit for her.
- 27:20Speaker 2: The art gallery. No at the museum, where she talks
- 27:24Speaker 2: to the boy who was like disinterested in like visiting
- 27:28Speaker 2: the exhibits, and she's like, hey, did we watch a
- 27:31Speaker 2: different movie? Maybe she's like, hey, literally no memory, what
- 27:34Speaker 2: do you like? And he's like, I wish we went
- 27:36Speaker 2: to Hawaii. I like Sharks and she's like, hey, we
- 27:38Speaker 2: have an exhibit on the third floor about sharks, and
- 27:42Speaker 2: he's like all hyped for it, and then they were
- 27:44Speaker 2: going to give her a manager position and she turns
- 27:46Speaker 2: it down. I literally have no idea what you're talking.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Did I dream this while I was sleeping? Guys, please
- 27:52Speaker 2: email the show or jump in our Facebook group because
- 27:55Speaker 2: I swear that would have been a great fit for her.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Can I say, get out of here with that New
- 27:59Speaker 2: York apartment? Nice, huge and spacious, get out of here,
- 28:04Speaker 2: Like for any bright eye kid who wants to find
- 28:06Speaker 2: their passion in New York City, you are not living
- 28:08Speaker 2: in an apartment like that. It's not happening. Not that
- 28:11Speaker 2: I've ever lived there, but no, no, I agree. And
- 28:15Speaker 2: then when she gets there, she like looks out the
- 28:17Speaker 2: window and like she sees like the city scape. I
- 28:20Speaker 2: was like, it looks so fake. It literally looked like
- 28:22Speaker 2: they put a poster on the window of like a
- 28:24Speaker 2: New York city scape. You know, get out of here.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Here's what I want to talk about with the booty
- 28:31Speaker 2: call scene. Hmm okay, it was obvious to me that
- 28:35Speaker 2: there were scenes that were out of order there, and
- 28:38Speaker 2: I don't know if you've caught it. Oh, that scene
- 28:41Speaker 2: was edited out of order in your opinion, Yes, because
- 28:43Speaker 2: let me explain. He comes to her apartment, knocks on door,
- 28:47Speaker 2: hopes to see like the other person that lives there.
- 28:49Speaker 2: They have the whole conversation about him stealing the taxi cab, right, yes,
- 28:54Speaker 2: and they have this whole exchange. He gives her, she
- 28:57Speaker 2: takes the bottle of wine or whatever, the door goodbye.
- 29:01Speaker 2: The next immediate scene is she's at some like outdoor
- 29:05Speaker 2: nighttime farmer's market and she sees him and they have
- 29:10Speaker 2: some conversation. I don't remember exactly what it is. She
- 29:12Speaker 2: picks up an apple and a bottle of water at
- 29:15Speaker 2: this farmer's market. That scene's over. The next immediate scene
- 29:19Speaker 2: is he's now coming. He's in the hallway again and
- 29:22Speaker 2: comes back to her apartment, knocks on the door, and
- 29:25Speaker 2: he goes, oh blah blah blah blah blahlah whatever. I
- 29:28Speaker 2: don't remember what they talk about, but she goes, thanks
- 29:30Speaker 2: for the wine and then closes a door on him. Oh. Like,
- 29:36Speaker 2: they put the farmer's market scene in between the two scenes,
- 29:40Speaker 2: and I wish you could remember the context. Maybe they
- 29:42Speaker 2: had to do that because something wasn't lining up in
- 29:45Speaker 2: the story. I can't remember the exact details of what
- 29:48Speaker 2: was said, but it totally threw me off because their
- 29:53Speaker 2: clothes were even different. So it's the next day, it's
- 29:57Speaker 2: something like the next day or next night. Yeah, thanks
- 30:00Speaker 2: for the wine.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Doesn't make sense because he gave her the wine in
- 30:02Speaker 1: theory the day before.
- 30:03Speaker 2: The way it's edited. Yes, and they're back in the
- 30:05Speaker 2: scene in the hallway and they're wearing the same clothes
- 30:07Speaker 2: that they are wearing. I agree. All right, are you
- 30:12Speaker 2: ready to rate this movie? I am three stars from me.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I really wanted to like it more. Two
- 30:17Speaker 2: and a half. Okay, okay. Set in the bar real low.
- 30:22Speaker 1: As we go into countdown to Christmas, I will say,
- 30:24Speaker 1: as I mentioned next week, is we Wish You a
- 30:26Speaker 1: Married Christmas? I gotta say, Christopher Plaha has giving me
