- 0:00Speaker 1: When the world feels out of control, God is still
- 0:03Speaker 1: on the throne. 10-Minute Christian Motivation, October 1st, 2026. Welcome
- 0:09Speaker 1: to your daily Christian motivation. For the next 10 minutes,
- 0:12Speaker 1: forget the noise, forget the notifications, forget the arguments, forget
- 0:17Speaker 1: the endless stream of breaking news, and remember one truth.
- 0:21Speaker 1: God is still on the throne. Today, people are worried.
- 0:25Speaker 1: They're worried about money. They're worried about prices. They're worried
- 0:28Speaker 1: about what is happening overseas. They're worried about wars. They're
- 0:32Speaker 1: worried about their children. They're worried about their marriages. They're
- 0:35Speaker 1: worried about their jobs. They're worried about what tomorrow might bring.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Recent economic surveys show Americans feeling deeply uncertain about the economy,
- 0:44Speaker 1: even as the latest inflation numbers contain some encouraging signs.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Around the world, conflict continues. There is continuing instability in
- 0:52Speaker 1: the Middle East. There is continuing war involving Russia and Ukraine.
- 0:56Speaker 1: There are families waking up every morning in places where
- 0:59Speaker 1: the sounds outside aren't lawnmowers and school buses. They're explosions.
- 1:04Speaker 1: They're sirens. They're war. And here at home, storms and
- 1:07Speaker 1: extreme weather remind us of something else. We control much
- 1:11Speaker 1: less than we sometimes imagine. So what does a Christian
- 1:14Speaker 1: do with all of this? Do we panic? Do we
- 1:17Speaker 1: spend every waking hour refreshing the news? Do we become angry?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Do we become afraid? Do we convince ourselves that everything
- 1:24Speaker 1: is falling apart? Or do we remember who God is?
- 1:27Speaker 1: Psalm 46 says, Think about that. The Bible doesn't say,
- 1:30Speaker 1: we won't fear because nothing bad will happen. It says,
- 1:31Speaker 1: even if the earth moves, God remains. That's different. Christian
- 1:34Speaker 1: faith is not pretending storms don't exist. Christian faith is
- 1:37Speaker 1: knowing who is in the boat when the storm arrives.
- 1:56Speaker 1: And that takes us to today's story, Jesus in the storm.
- 2:00Speaker 1: In Mark chapter 4, Jesus and his disciples get into
- 2:03Speaker 1: a boat. Jesus tells them, let us pass over unto
- 2:06Speaker 1: the other side. Remember those words, because they're important. Jesus
- 2:11Speaker 1: already told them where they were going, the other side.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Then the storm came. The Bible says, a great storm
- 2:17Speaker 1: of wind arose. Waves crashed over the boat. Water began
- 2:21Speaker 1: filling it. These weren't inexperienced tourists. Several of these men
- 2:25Speaker 1: were fishermen. They understood boats. They understood water. They understood storms.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And these experienced fishermen reached a point where they believed,
- 2:34Speaker 1: we're going to die. Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep. Can you imagine?
- 2:38Speaker 1: The boat is being tossed. Water is coming in. Men
- 2:41Speaker 1: are panicking. And Jesus is sleeping. They wake him and say, Master,
- 2:46Speaker 1: carest thou not that we perish? In modern language, Jesus,
- 2:50Speaker 1: don't you care what's happening to us? Have you ever
- 2:53Speaker 1: prayed something like that? God, don't you see this? And
- 2:56Speaker 1: Jesus gets up. He rebukes the wind. He speaks to
- 2:58Speaker 1: the sea. Peace, be still. And suddenly, calm. But then
- 3:00Speaker 1: Jesus asks his disciples something fascinating. He doesn't ask, why
- 3:25Speaker 1: was there a storm? He asks, why are ye so fearful?
- 3:29Speaker 1: How is it that ye have no faith? The storm
- 3:32Speaker 1: revealed something. The disciples had been looking at the size
- 3:35Speaker 1: of the waves instead of remembering the identity of the
- 3:38Speaker 1: one inside the boat. And Christians still do that today.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We have bigger waves than ever. Think about your phone.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Within 30 seconds of waking up, you can know about
- 3:48Speaker 1: an earthquake thousands of miles away, a war overseas, a
- 3:52Speaker 1: murder in another state. a stock market drop, a political fight,
- 3:56Speaker 1: a celebrity scandal, a natural disaster, an economic report, a
- 4:01Speaker 1: disease outbreak, another warning, another crisis, another headline, breaking news,
- 4:07Speaker 1: then another, then another. Your human brain was never designed
- 4:11Speaker 1: to personally carry every tragedy happening everywhere on Earth simultaneously.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But your phone will gladly hand them all to you
- 4:18Speaker 1: before breakfast. And if you're not careful, you begin believing...
- 4:22Speaker 1: Everything is falling apart. But perhaps the problem isn't that
- 4:26Speaker 1: God has lost control. Perhaps we've simply spent more time
- 4:30Speaker 1: listening to the world than listening to God. Think about this.
- 4:34Speaker 1: How many minutes did you spend reading headlines today? Now,
- 4:38Speaker 1: how many minutes did you spend reading scripture? How much
- 4:41Speaker 1: time did you spend listening to commentators? How much time
- 4:44Speaker 1: did you spend listening for God? How many times did
- 4:47Speaker 1: you check your phone? How many times did you pray?
- 4:50Speaker 1: Those questions can be uncomfortable. but they're important because whatever
- 4:54Speaker 1: constantly receives your attention eventually begins shaping your thoughts and
- 4:58Speaker 1: whatever shapes your thoughts begins influencing your emotions. Jesus warned
- 5:03Speaker 1: us about tomorrow. Jesus said in Matthew chapter six, take
- 5:07Speaker 1: therefore no thought for the morrow for the morrow shall
- 5:10Speaker 1: take thought for the things of itself. Jesus wasn't teaching laziness.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He wasn't saying don't plan, don't save money, don't prepare,
- 5:19Speaker 1: don't pay attention. He was teaching us not to live
- 5:22Speaker 1: imprisoned by tomorrow. There is a difference between preparation and worry.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Preparation says, I will do what I can today. Worry says,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I must mentally live through every terrible thing that might
- 5:34Speaker 1: happen tomorrow. God didn't give you tomorrow today. He gave
- 5:37Speaker 1: you today. And sometimes we lose the blessing of Wednesday
- 5:40Speaker 1: because we're terrified about Friday. We lose dinner with our
- 5:44Speaker 1: family because our mind is somewhere else. We sit beside
- 5:47Speaker 1: people we love while staring into a screen worried about
- 5:50Speaker 1: people we've never met. Meanwhile, life is happening right in
- 5:53Speaker 1: front of us. Your children are growing. Your spouse needs
- 5:56Speaker 1: your attention. Someone needs your encouragement. God may be putting
- 6:00Speaker 1: an opportunity in front of you right now. Don't allow
- 6:03Speaker 1: fear about tomorrow to make you miss God's assignment today.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Your bank account is not your God. Maybe your biggest
- 6:10Speaker 1: fear today isn't war. Maybe it's money. Food costs more.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Fuel costs more. Housing can feel overwhelming. Bills arrive regardless
- 6:19Speaker 1: of how you feel. And when money gets tight, fear
- 6:22Speaker 1: gets loud. But Jesus addressed this too. He spoke about food.
- 6:26Speaker 1: He spoke about clothing. He spoke about daily needs. And
- 6:30Speaker 1: then he said, But seek ye first the kingdom of
- 6:32Speaker 1: God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be
- 6:36Speaker 1: added unto you. Notice the order. God first. Not money first.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Not career first. Not politics first. Not possessions first. God first.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Does that mean Christians will never struggle financially? No. The
- 6:50Speaker 1: Bible contains faithful people who experienced poverty, hunger, persecution, and hardship.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Christianity isn't a promise that you'll never experience difficulty. It
- 7:00Speaker 1: is a promise that difficulty doesn't get the final word.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Your employer is not ultimately your provider. Wall Street is
- 7:06Speaker 1: not your provider. Washington is not your provider. The economy
- 7:11Speaker 1: is not your God. God is God. Work hard, be responsible,
- 7:15Speaker 1: spend wisely, help others, prepare. But don't worship the numbers
- 7:20Speaker 1: in your bank account. Because numbers change. God doesn't. Paul
- 7:24Speaker 1: learned the secret. The Apostle Paul experienced something most motivational
- 7:28Speaker 1: speakers don't like talking about. Hardship. He was beaten, imprisoned, rejected, shipwrecked, threatened, hungry.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yet Paul writes in Philippians chapter 4, I have learned,
- 7:40Speaker 1: in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Notice,
- 7:44Speaker 1: I have learned. Contentment didn't automatically happen. Paul learned it.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Faith grows through practice. You learn to trust God by
- 7:52Speaker 1: trusting God. You learn to pray by praying. You learn
- 7:55Speaker 1: patience by going through situations requiring patience. You learn courage
- 8:00Speaker 1: by walking through situations where you're afraid. And sometimes God
- 8:04Speaker 1: doesn't remove you from the storm immediately because He is
- 8:07Speaker 1: building something inside you during the storm. You keep asking. God,
- 8:11Speaker 1: when will you change my circumstances? And perhaps God is saying,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I'm changing you. What should we do today? Here is
- 8:18Speaker 1: today's challenge. For the next 24 hours, change the order
- 8:22Speaker 1: of your attention. Tomorrow morning, do not let the world
- 8:25Speaker 1: speak to you before God does. Before Facebook, before YouTube,
- 8:30Speaker 1: before television, before the headlines, before checking your bank account,
- 8:34Speaker 1: before scrolling through notifications, open your Bible. Read Psalm 46.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Then pray. Amen. Then begin your day. Watch what happens.
- 8:43Speaker 1: The headlines may not change. The economy may not change overnight.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The war may still be happening. Your problem may still exist,
- 9:12Speaker 1: but you will have changed your starting point. Instead of
- 9:15Speaker 1: beginning with fear, you begin with faith. Instead of beginning
- 9:19Speaker 1: with the world, you begin with the word. Instead of asking,
- 9:23Speaker 1: what's going wrong today? You begin by asking, God, what
- 9:26Speaker 1: would you have me do today? That's a different life.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Remember who is in the boat. Maybe you're in a
- 9:32Speaker 1: storm right now. Your marriage is struggling. Your finances are tight.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Your child is hurting. Your business is struggling. You feel alone.
- 9:40Speaker 1: You don't know what comes next. Listen carefully. The presence
- 9:44Speaker 1: of a storm does not mean the absence of God.
- 9:47Speaker 1: The disciples were in the storm, with Jesus in the boat.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And sometimes the greatest evidence of faith isn't shouting at
- 9:53Speaker 1: the storm. It is simply staying in the boat with Christ.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep serving. Keep forgiving. Keep working.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Keep loving. Keep moving. Because Jesus never promised there wouldn't
- 10:06Speaker 1: be storms. But he did say, let us pass over
- 10:09Speaker 1: unto the other side. And if Jesus says you're going
- 10:12Speaker 1: to the other side, don't let the waves convince you
- 10:15Speaker 1: that the journey is over. Closing. So when you hear
- 10:18Speaker 1: another frightening headline today, Remember, God is still God. When
- 10:22Speaker 1: your bank account worries you, God is still God. When
- 10:25Speaker 1: politicians argue, God is still God. When nations threaten one another,
- 10:30Speaker 1: God is still God. When storms come, God is still God.
- 10:34Speaker 1: When people disappoint you, God is still God. And when
- 10:37Speaker 1: you don't know what tomorrow holds, you know who holds tomorrow.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Psalm 46 says, Be still and know that I am God.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Not be still and understand everything. Not be still and
- 10:49Speaker 1: predict everything. not be still and control everything. Simply be
- 10:54Speaker 1: still and know that I am God. Today, stop trying
- 10:57Speaker 1: to carry a world that God never asked you to carry.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Do what he has placed in front of you. Love
- 11:02Speaker 1: your family, do your work, help somebody, forgive somebody, pray
- 11:07Speaker 1: for somebody, read his word, walk in obedience, and leave
- 11:11Speaker 1: tomorrow in God's hands. Because the world may feel out
- 11:14Speaker 1: of control, but God has never lost control. Keep the faith,
- 11:18Speaker 1: keep walking, keep your eyes on Jesus. And remember, Christ
- 11:22Speaker 1: over everything.
