- Keenan: Okay, so we're on day four of our nine days to believe. the quote today is do right thing. Doing the right thing is never the wrong thing. Welcome back Ruin Real with Keenan. I did posted a great interview Yesterday with my friend BC. Go check it out. But check out that interview. We had a great time, learned a lot of stuff. it was a great opportunity for me, especially to be curious. ⁓ And that's something we've been about is being curious. We've talked about believing. We've even about letting go of failure. But today, we're gonna talk about something a little bit harder. Obedience. Everybody loves that word. Ted Lasso has a great quote. That really like. That's simply incredible. He says this doing the right thing is never the wrong thing. Simple, easier to remember, easier said than done, much harder to live, but sometimes doing the right thing cost you something. several years ago, I had a great job at FanDuel. It was stable, the paycheck showed up every two weeks. It a clear, no dummy. Easy career path. People thought I was doing well, I was supporting my family. But part of me thought I would stay there for a long time. It's a growing company. But as we've talked about, as we've learned, God has many different plans. And God had different plans for me. And little by little, he began to pull my heart towards counseling. Not because I had everything figured out, not because I made it made financial sense, not because it guaranteed success. But honestly, he was calling me. The more I prayed, the more I leaned into wisdom, the more uncomfortable I was staying there. Eventually I realized something though. Sometimes comfort becomes the greatest obstacle to obedience. Leaving FanDuel was scary. Leaving a steady job is scary. was walking away from uncertainty towards grad school, towards debt, ⁓ stress, towards years of studying, towards licensing exam, towards a future that I could not fully see. There were moments I wondered if I had made a terrible mistake. But Everstep reminded me: faith isn't trusting when you know the outcome. Faith is trusting the one leading you. one reason change so difficult is because our brains designed to design to protect us. Psychologists call this the status quo ⁓ We naturally prefer the familiar, when that familiar no longer fits who we're becoming. Our minds often confuse familiar with safe. But growth rarely happens inside our comfort zone. When our values and actions don't align, we often experience internal tension. ⁓ that's why people can have a great job, a comfort routine, and still feel duply deeply restless. And sometimes that restlessness isn't a sign you're failing. Sometimes it's God inviting you into something bigger, something greater, something more beautiful than what you're doing right now. So let's go to the Bible. In Proverbs chapter three, it says this: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your path straight. That's Proverbs 3, verses 5 through 6. Notice what Solomon doesn't say. He doesn't say, you'll understand everything. You'll understand everything first. He says, trust first. Understanding often comes later. You know, let's talk about Abraham. God simply said, go. Two letters. Go. He didn't hand Abraham a five-year strategic plan, a pamphlet. Roadmap, he just said, go. He called Abraham, just like he's calling us, to take the next faithful step. The same is true for you, same is true for me. looking back, leaving FanDuel wasn't just about changing careers. God was changing me. Graduate school stretched me. The NCMHC me, the exam, humbled me. Working with clients. Deepened my compassion. Starting a private practice my faith in ways I never expected. If I had stayed where I was comfortable, I would have never become the counselor God is shaping me to be. Sometimes we pray for God ⁓ change our circumstances when what He's really doing is changing us. ⁓ Maybe God isn't asking you to quit your job. maybe He is. Maybe He's asking you to have the conversation you've been avoiding. Start counseling, start therapy, forgive someone, set a healthy boundary, volunteer, give your time, lead something, be a leader, ⁓ take class, apply for the position, apply for the promotion, or finally surrender the dream you've been holding to tightly. Whatever it is, confuse fear ⁓ God's voice. Fear says this stay it's comfortable. Faith says, take the step. So today ask this where am I choosing over calling? Write one step of obedience ⁓ you know God is you to take. Not ten, just one. Then pray. Lord, give me the courage to obey you before I understand everything you're doing. Help me trust your character more than my circumstances. Amen. And that's it. So tomorrow we're gonna about success. ⁓ Our world measures success by promotions, money, followers, awards, accolades, credentials. But Jesus in the Bible measured success very differently. We'll explore what it means to live a life that is faithful, not just impressive. Until then, remember this the safest place you can ever be is in the center of God's will. This is Rudon Real Keenan. Grace and peace. you all for listening and I'll see you tomorrow.
