- 0:00Happy Friday morning. Everybody had a dream and woke
- 0:07up, looked over, it was 430 and finally got out of bed about, I
- 0:13don't know, 512. And now it's 5:30.
- 0:19And I thought to myself, it's 5:30, but it's 6:30 in
- 0:24Charlotte, NC. Certainly I'm the only person up
- 0:29in the whole world. Then I get on X and I see that
- 0:33Larry McReynolds has already posted on X an hour before I
- 0:39even got out of bed. What time do you all get up?
- 0:46It appears to me that Larry McReynolds must get up at 4:30
- 0:50every single day. Did you know that?
- 0:53Dale Earnhardt Senior, the man in black #3 he was half farmer.
- 1:01I remember Dale Senior telling me that he would get up at like
- 1:05436 o'clock something, go up to the shop, sign all the fan mail,
- 1:13and then start his day. Just getting up is is a big
- 1:19deal. Like, what time do you get up?
- 1:22I usually get up around 7:00 to 8:00, but every once in a while,
- 1:28maybe once, maybe once a month or once every two months, I'll
- 1:32find myself falling dead asleep at 11:00 and then like up at
- 1:384:00 and they go, Oh my God, I'm up.
- 1:42All right. Today's top.
- 1:47Why did I wake up so early? I had a dream last night that
- 1:53woke me straight up out of bed and that's why I'm up.
- 1:57I had a dream that me and my brother Rusty were walking
- 2:02through a building like through a room and I looked and there
- 2:07was 2 stand ups, one of Dale's senior and one of Rusty.
- 2:13And as soon as I started to turn around and talk to Rusty my
- 2:17dream stopped and that was it. And I woke up.
- 2:22It made me think it took me back in time.
- 2:27I got I got emotional and so Kim felt me wiggling around, you
- 2:34know like at 4:50. So I told her about my dream.
- 2:40I said man those those days were so magical.
- 2:44I mean, it was Rusty Wallace and Dale Earnhardt Senior I'll never
- 2:51forget. Senior was so damn popular, so
- 2:55famous. When we went to the Brickyard,
- 2:58for the first couple years, whenever Dale Senior would leave
- 3:03his motorhome to head to the garage, he had to have like 2
- 3:10police escort him 'cause the people literally hanging on the
- 3:14fence and screaming it was. Those days were magical.
- 3:22It was so big. I mean, these guys were like,
- 3:25they were like Elvis Presley. I mean, they were superstars.
- 3:31I remember one night we're up in New York for the, you know, the
- 3:35awards ceremony. And I was a lucky man because
- 3:41they always liked me. Me and my wife.
- 3:44We're up there, we're celebrating the year.
- 3:48And all of a sudden, Dale Senior, Rusty, they invite me
- 3:54and Kim, we find ourselves somewhere in one of those, you
- 3:58know, New York Strange. It's like where we at, you open
- 4:02a door and you go back in there and there's these big old
- 4:04venues. We go back in there.
- 4:08Brooks and Dunn. I mean Brooks and Dunn, when the
- 4:12sun goes down on my side of town alone, some feeling comes
- 4:20through the room and the whole world turns blue.
- 4:27I mean, Brooks and Dunn, it was like a a, it wasn't even a
- 4:30concert either. It was a like, maybe, maybe
- 4:34fifty of us. But I was with Rusty and Teresa
- 4:42Earnhardt, Dale, me, my wife, and there we are like fifty of
- 4:46us for like a little bitty mini concert.
- 4:50Brooks and Dunn those days, I mean, they were truly
- 4:56superstars. And I'm going to tell you
- 4:58something, and I don't know if Mike Helton ever watches these,
- 5:03but Mike Helton will agree with me.
- 5:05He used to be the president of NASCAR.
- 5:10Dale Senior was bigger than NASCAR.
- 5:13You know, there's that old saying, you're never bigger than
- 5:15the sport. I'm telling you right now, I
- 5:20talked to anybody about that. I would talk to Steve Phelps.
- 5:24I would talk to Mike Hilton. I would talk to Jim France.
- 5:27In those days, Dale Senior, he was bigger than NASCAR.
- 5:35Dale Senior, he could have got on radio or TV and said
- 5:37everybody stay home and all the fans would have stayed home.
- 5:42That's how that's what superstars were back then.
- 5:46I'll never forget Southern 500. I ran good, you know, I didn't I
- 5:52didn't run real good in the cup series, but there were times I
- 5:55showed up. Me and Kim are Kim and myself.
- 6:02Dave Moody wants I'm doing some radio from the studio and he
- 6:05goes Herman, he said. I think it's Kim and myself.
- 6:09So you say the first name, then myself.
- 6:11So Kim and myself were flying with Rusty in his helicopter
- 6:20after the Southern 500. And the fans knew like what?
- 6:26Let me see what would that be turns 1?
- 6:27It'd be turn 4 now. Now it'd be turn 4.
- 6:30But Rusty's helicopter was over there.
- 6:33Back in those days, Rusty had a a Learjet.
- 6:39Rusty had a Learjet and a helicopter buddy.
- 6:43The they, we were printing money back then.
- 6:46We were printing money. There was so much money in
- 6:48NASCAR, you were buying with it. So Rusty had a hell of a pilot.
- 6:56And Kim and I, those were the days.
- 7:00We go out to the helicopter with Rusty and we're getting ready to
- 7:05get in it. We're going to fly from
- 7:06Darlington back to Charlotte. And the fans that somehow they
- 7:11ran all the way around there and they were climbing the fence and
- 7:15there was this one drunk girl. She's drunk.
- 7:17She's having a good time. Kenny, Kenny, sign my thong,
- 7:24Sign my thong. I'm like, and she's got her
- 7:27thong ripped out of her pants. And there's a chain link.
- 7:31Friends and I looked at Kim like Kim looks me right in the face.
- 7:35She goes, go ahead. Of course, we all carried
- 7:39Sharpies. I took that Sharpie and I, I
- 7:45just took that Sharpie and she had her butt up against that
- 7:48chain link fence and I just signed my name as good as I
- 7:51could. I'm telling you, that's what
- 7:56wrote, that's what woke me up out of a dead sleep.
- 8:00And then I, I told Kim about it and she just went and she went
- 8:04right back to bed. But I was wit I was a witness to
- 8:09those days. And then I laid in bed a little
- 8:12bit and thought, who's alive that witnessed those days with
- 8:16me. You know, Rusty, Mikey Waltrip,
- 8:23not very many people. It's hard to believe, but
- 8:27Sterling Marlin, Oh my God, we used to do these Race of
- 8:31champions. Bruce Patron ran them and
- 8:35Richard Bostick. Richard, he was the one that
- 8:38checked everything out. We used to do these Race of
- 8:40Champions. It'd be about six of us NASCAR
- 8:42drivers. We would go to these race
- 8:44tracks. The fans were packed.
- 8:47They'd never seen crowds as big in their life.
- 8:50What would happen? We'd get off the airplane.
- 8:52It'd be Dale Senior, Rusty, Those guys would make the big
- 8:56money. Then they had other guys that,
- 8:59you know, were somewhat famous and and I fell in that category.
- 9:03And you know, that racetrack would pay like $60,000 and
- 9:09Bruce, you know, he'd give Earnhardt and Rusty the majority
- 9:12of the money, but help me and Mikey Waltrip and Schrader,
- 9:17Sterling Marlin that that would be about it right there.
- 9:19It'd be Rusty Earnhardt, it'd be Sterling Marlin, Mikey, me.
- 9:26But help they gave me. Hey, I was happy they was giving
- 9:29me good money. And I'm telling you what it the
- 9:34crowds were so big and we they would have six race cars.
- 9:39Some of you will remember this. And we'd get in those cars and
- 9:43we'd put on a show. We'd put on a show and we would
- 9:48tell each other, you know, we'd be putting our fire suits on in
- 9:52motorhomes. And we say, OK, whoever gets out
- 9:54front now, don't run away. Look in your mirror, you know,
- 9:58if if you, if you get a better car, go in the corner, go high.
- 10:01Let us get we put on a hell of a show.
- 10:04And the autograph sessions at those race tracks respond right
- 10:08here. If you remember those race of
- 10:10champions, we were like rock stars, man.
- 10:14Those were the days. I'm telling you what they they
- 10:17truly were, though. And and I think that's what
- 10:20upsets me. I think that's what I say.
- 10:23I think that's why I say we're lacking superstars.
- 10:27They just, there's no superstars like like there was back then.
- 10:31I mean, the, it, it was like The Beatles coming to town.
- 10:34We we'd get out off that airplane and they'd be meeting
- 10:38us there at the airport screaming like we were The
- 10:41Beatles. So much more to say.
- 10:48Wow. All right, everybody, I'm headed
- 10:51to Italy today. I'm so excited.
- 10:53Have a great Friday.
