- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week where we
- 0:22Speaker 1: have a guest join us. Check him out on First
- 0:25Speaker 1: Things First, five o'clock Eastern on FS1. Danny Parkins, what's
- 0:29Speaker 1: going on? Bo, good to be back, man. How you doing?
- 0:32Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 0:33Speaker 1: I'm good, man. Did you get out of Nick's house
- 0:35Speaker 1: before the Chiefs game started, or did you stick around?
- 0:37Speaker 1: I got out.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I got out.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And I didn't even send him any texts.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Not any taunting texts, which I thought showed tremendous restraint
- 0:48Speaker 2: because Wilds and Brew and Nick, even though Nick was
- 0:51Speaker 2: sitting three feet to my right, were sending texts in
- 0:54Speaker 2: the group chat after the Caleb interception. And I don't
- 0:58Speaker 2: know if it's because they respect me less or I'm
- 1:00Speaker 2: like a new guy and it's a hazing situation. There
- 1:03Speaker 2: were no texts mocking him during the Chiefs game. And
- 1:06Speaker 2: I got all of it.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Well, that is a reflection, not of how little respect
- 1:13Speaker 1: they have for you, but their understanding that you're not
- 1:16Speaker 1: going to harm yourself. That's true. Right now. Do I
- 1:20Speaker 1: think Nick would harm himself under those circumstances? Of course not.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Can I guarantee you? No.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so Nick came to my spot during the Colts
- 1:32Speaker 2: game because my mom was in town and he's known
- 1:35Speaker 2: my mom for a while because it was around Thanksgiving.
- 1:38Speaker 2: But he said, he was like, I am a little
- 1:42Speaker 2: nervous at how I'm going to behave. And I'm like, buddy,
- 1:44Speaker 2: I'm a little nervous too. I'm a little nervous too,
- 1:49Speaker 2: but she's seen, she's seen it all. So it'll be fine.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And then there he was down on two knees, basically
- 1:55Speaker 2: praying at my television as the chiefs pulled that off,
- 1:58Speaker 2: just making a fool of himself.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Now, when his team lost a Superbowl to his nemesis,
- 2:03Speaker 1: Tom Brady, I was not there, but I sent a
- 2:05Speaker 1: text to his wife and said, is he okay? And
- 2:08Speaker 1: the response was quite simply, No. Yeah, that's right. That
- 2:13Speaker 1: was it. That was that was it. That was matter
- 2:15Speaker 1: of fact. But can you imagine if he rooted for
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Eagles? This is OK. So you and I have
- 2:21Speaker 1: both done a good bit of radio. Right. And you
- 2:24Speaker 1: know what it's like. When you see what's going on
- 2:27Speaker 1: and you're like, all I got to do tomorrow is
- 2:29Speaker 1: say the phone number, right? If I want to do
- 2:32Speaker 1: a show with my own content, I can. Or we
- 2:36Speaker 1: could just screen through all this brilliance that's not actually brilliance,
- 2:40Speaker 1: but is radio brilliance. that is going to come through.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And I feel like that's what it has to be
- 2:45Speaker 1: five days a week. If you do radio in Philadelphia,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I would never have anything prepared. I would only show
- 2:52Speaker 1: up to work with my keys and my wallet. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: don't need to log onto my computer. I don't need
- 2:57Speaker 1: to know anything because after last night where, okay, guys, yes,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts had five turnovers in a matter of speak.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But I don't feel comfortable giving him the two turnovers
- 3:16Speaker 1: that were on the same play. And you're like, gee, Bomani,
- 3:18Speaker 1: what do you mean he had two turnovers on the
- 3:19Speaker 1: same play? Never seen it. Through an interception, the interception
- 3:23Speaker 1: was fumbled, which is something the Chargers fans know about
- 3:25Speaker 1: in the worst way possible. Jalen Hurts recovers it, and
- 3:29Speaker 1: then he gets hit, and he fumbles again, and the
- 3:32Speaker 1: other team went and took it. He had four interceptions
- 3:37Speaker 1: in this game. Um... It was bad. It was bad.
- 3:40Speaker 1: It was not a good look. By the way, the
- 3:43Speaker 1: Chargers barely won. This was not encouraging, I would say,
- 3:46Speaker 1: for them. But they're a one-handed quarterback who, actually, I
- 3:50Speaker 1: got to give him credit. He was playing like a
- 3:52Speaker 1: two-handed quarterback. I don't really understand how exactly that happened,
- 3:56Speaker 1: but if I was him, I wouldn't have been doing
- 3:57Speaker 1: all that unnecessary clapping, right? Like, chill out, homie. You
- 4:01Speaker 1: can show your love another way. But I can't imagine
- 4:05Speaker 1: having anything tethered to the Eagles right now, because is
- 4:08Speaker 1: losing out on the board. We've seen them do this before.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Right. A lot of people are invoking 2023 and that
- 4:16Speaker 2: collapse where they lost five of six down the stretch
- 4:21Speaker 2: and then got blown out in that playoff game. There's
- 4:24Speaker 2: a lot there, but you're right about the radio thing.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It's like you go in, you say the phone number,
- 4:29Speaker 2: and then the first five calls will be like, what's
- 4:31Speaker 2: Nick Foles doing?
- 4:33Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 4:34Speaker 2: People just saying all sorts of irrational shit that is
- 4:36Speaker 2: going to be objectively hilarious. Maybe we should call Doug Peterson.
- 4:41Speaker 2: So yeah, that is just red meat to the base.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And Jalen Hurts is one of the toughest quarterbacks to
- 4:50Speaker 2: figure out that I can remember. Because to me, and
- 4:54Speaker 2: I like to try to think of myself as a
- 4:56Speaker 2: guy who watches the games but also understands the stats
- 4:59Speaker 2: and the analytics, my eyes tell me he is not
- 5:05Speaker 2: a good.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Thrower of the football.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yes. Their actions tell me that they do not think
- 5:11Speaker 2: he is a good thrower of the football. Their highly paid,
- 5:16Speaker 2: objectively highly talented wide receivers seem to think he's not
- 5:21Speaker 2: a very skilled thrower of the football. And then in
- 5:24Speaker 2: the Super Bowl... plural he balls out so.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I don't I don't know I'm like I'm like well
- 5:30Speaker 1: damn okay.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So he's a gamer he's clutch he's a leader like
- 5:34Speaker 2: all of those things I give him his flowers for
- 5:36Speaker 2: he's tough he's a good runner he's a weapon all
- 5:40Speaker 2: of those things but man like Of the five turnovers,
- 5:45Speaker 2: the one that was the worst was the last one.
- 5:48Speaker 1: You can't make that throw. You just can't.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You're moving down the field with relative ease, field goal
- 5:55Speaker 2: to tie, touchdown to win. The underneath stuff was open
- 5:58Speaker 2: the whole drive. The underneath stuff was open on that throw,
- 6:02Speaker 2: and you force it down the field, and two different
- 6:04Speaker 2: guys had a shot at the interception. That's just a
- 6:06Speaker 2: decision and a throw you cannot make. He doesn't have
- 6:08Speaker 2: that arm. He doesn't have that pinpoint accuracy. If the
- 6:13Speaker 2: decision-making and the clutchness, whatever stock you put into that trait,
- 6:18Speaker 2: is going to erode for him, he's a below-average player.
- 6:23Speaker 1: The first thing I want to say, they will not
- 6:25Speaker 1: lose out as they get the Raiders, the Commandos, the Bills,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and the Commandos again. So they're probably going 3-1 on
- 6:34Speaker 1: the way out. But I'm here to tell you, if
- 6:36Speaker 1: they go call it 1-3 on the way out, That
- 6:40Speaker 1: means they're going to lose in the first round. And
- 6:42Speaker 1: that means it's going to be a, everything was go
- 6:44Speaker 1: sale on some level, right? Like there's, they have a
- 6:48Speaker 1: team that is incredibly talented at a head coach. Who's first,
- 6:51Speaker 1: what is it? Four years are as good as anybody's
- 6:54Speaker 1: first four years is you'll ever be able to think
- 6:56Speaker 1: of in the NFL. And, it feels like they're on
- 6:59Speaker 1: the verge of you got to break this whole thing up.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Except for the fact that last year they were coming
- 7:03Speaker 1: off a chaos year like this year, and they won
- 7:05Speaker 1: a Super Bowl. And the year before the chaos win,
- 7:07Speaker 1: they went to a Super Bowl. I don't understand anything
- 7:10Speaker 1: about them. I don't understand how it is. Last year,
- 7:12Speaker 1: the world was furious with me. Not the whole world,
- 7:14Speaker 1: just Eagles world, where I made the point, an unassailable truth.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Every team that I've ever seen Jalen Hurts quarterback has
- 7:21Speaker 1: been ultimately limited to by his ability or lack thereof
- 7:25Speaker 1: to throw the ball, right? It happened at Alabama, right?
- 7:28Speaker 1: They benched him in the title game. And we saw
- 7:31Speaker 1: the passing game turn into something else, right? It happened
- 7:34Speaker 1: at Oklahoma. By the way, two places where he was
- 7:35Speaker 1: a Heisman Trophy finalist. This is the duality of the
- 7:38Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts experience. Correct. And we have seen it happen
- 7:41Speaker 1: with the Eagles, except for the multiple Super Bowls that
- 7:46Speaker 1: you just referred to. Which is a big, other than that,
- 7:49Speaker 1: how is the play series of moments?
- 7:51Speaker 2: People are like, well, so you don't credit him for
- 7:54Speaker 2: the Super Bowl?
- 7:54Speaker 1: I'm like, no, no, no. It's the opposite. Right?
- 7:58Speaker 2: I credit him so much for the super bowls that
- 8:00Speaker 2: it makes me question everything else I know about football
- 8:02Speaker 2: and quarterbacking because he is such an outlier in that way.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And yeah, I listen, I don't exactly know what Nick
- 8:10Speaker 2: Sirianni does. Like he's an, he's an offensive coach and
- 8:14Speaker 2: they've cycled through play callers sometimes because the hires have
- 8:16Speaker 2: been bad. And sometimes because they go get head coaching
- 8:18Speaker 2: jobs elsewhere. Like Shane Steichen seems to be a legitimately
- 8:22Speaker 2: good coach in Indianapolis and And then he hires Kevin Petullo,
- 8:27Speaker 2: and that seems to be going poorly. And it's like, well,
- 8:30Speaker 2: then take over. You've been a play caller before. You're
- 8:34Speaker 2: an offensive coach.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Fix it. So I don't know why Nick Sirianni, and.
- 8:39Speaker 2: He probably does in Philly to your point, but it
- 8:42Speaker 2: feels like he should get more heat nationally for it,
- 8:44Speaker 2: but the results are so overwhelming there. And I will say,
- 8:49Speaker 2: I don't think they're going to go 1-3, but if
- 8:52Speaker 2: they do, and if Dallas wins out, Dallas can still
- 8:56Speaker 2: jump them for the division. And in that scenario, then
- 9:01Speaker 2: it's everybody must go. Yeah, or somebody got to go, right?
- 9:04Speaker 1: At the very least, at that point, I do think
- 9:07Speaker 1: someone has to get fired. I do wonder this about Sirianni,
- 9:10Speaker 1: is that if he takes over the play calling and
- 9:14Speaker 1: nothing changes... yeah then he his everybody must go becomes
- 9:20Speaker 1: a lot stronger right what if um and i've seen
- 9:25Speaker 1: people i mentioned this on the last show and i've
- 9:27Speaker 1: seen other people talk about this where they say that
- 9:29Speaker 1: chris sims has never been a jalen hurts fan is
- 9:32Speaker 1: is a go hard at jalen hurts sort of dude
- 9:35Speaker 1: but um What if the reason that Sirianni does not
- 9:39Speaker 1: do this is he does in fact recognize that the
- 9:41Speaker 1: problem is not the play caller and the problem is
- 9:43Speaker 1: the manner in which their quarterback operates the offense?
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, I think then I would agree with him.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I do think that he is a limiting thing like
- 9:55Speaker 2: we've talked about, and it was masked last year by
- 9:58Speaker 2: Saquon Barkley having one of the five greatest running back
- 10:01Speaker 2: seasons in the history of the league. And I saw
- 10:04Speaker 2: Bill Barnwell put something out that he's like, Saquon Barkley
- 10:08Speaker 2: is actually being unlucky this year, which we don't normally
- 10:12Speaker 2: consider with running backs, but basically that his like rushing
- 10:15Speaker 2: success rate on long runs is The plays that should
- 10:19Speaker 2: go for 15 yards last year were going for 50.
- 10:22Speaker 2: And this year, the plays that should go for 15
- 10:25Speaker 2: yards are going for like six. And that is just
- 10:28Speaker 2: that there is actually some variance that we don't normally
- 10:31Speaker 2: associate with that position that's happening there. Obviously, a ton
- 10:35Speaker 2: of usage last year. There have been offensive line injuries.
- 10:38Speaker 2: People clearly don't respect Hurts in the same way. But
- 10:42Speaker 2: the other thing is the most likely guy to go
- 10:45Speaker 2: in the offseason is probably not going to help the
- 10:47Speaker 2: passing game get better. Because it might end up just
- 10:49Speaker 2: being A.J. Brown.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. I think they just going
- 10:53Speaker 1: to have to deal with that. Because what he doesn't
- 10:56Speaker 1: appear to be is a polarizing figure. I agree.
- 11:00Speaker 2: He seems to be speaking for a lot of people
- 11:02Speaker 2: in that locker room.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, like I don't get the... So the issue with
- 11:06Speaker 1: Terrell Owens always was the reason that he was divisive
- 11:11Speaker 1: is there were always some people on his side. Then
- 11:15Speaker 1: it was the other people that hated his guts. And
- 11:17Speaker 1: that's where you wound up with the issue. We're not
- 11:20Speaker 1: getting any word out about this, that A.J. Brown is
- 11:24Speaker 1: like tearing things up.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And it doesn't seem like he acts a fool about
- 11:28Speaker 1: this stuff or is difficult. Like anytime we see him
- 11:31Speaker 1: in media talking about it, he seems very measured. And
- 11:34Speaker 1: by the way, very correct. Not saying anything that anybody
- 11:38Speaker 1: with two eyes is not able to witness. It's and
- 11:41Speaker 1: his critiques are typically broader than I need the ball.
- 11:44Speaker 1: There is definitely we will be better if I got
- 11:46Speaker 1: the ball. But it's also a heavy dose of, you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: we got a lot of stuff that we're actually not
- 11:51Speaker 1: out here doing correctly. Maybe we could get a little
- 11:54Speaker 1: better at this. You listen to the people who are
- 11:56Speaker 1: around the team. they'll seem to be ready to tell
- 11:59Speaker 1: you that the problem is the quarterback and the people
- 12:02Speaker 1: are tired of the way the quarterback does things. You
- 12:05Speaker 1: could trade a wide receiver because you're tired of him.
- 12:08Speaker 1: This isn't how the quarterback thing works. I don't know
- 12:11Speaker 1: where they go find another one of those.
- 12:13Speaker 2: No, I mean, it's got to be 99% that Jalen
- 12:18Speaker 2: Hurts is back next year.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Oh, it's got to be 100. It's got to be 100.
- 12:22Speaker 1: If not 100, you don't move off of that guy.
- 12:25Speaker 2: And so.
- 12:27Speaker 1: But what do you do?
- 12:29Speaker 2: What offense do you build around Jalen Hurts that isn't
- 12:34Speaker 2: some version of we have to be the best rushing
- 12:36Speaker 2: team in football? That's really the only path to it.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And they might outlaw the tush push this year, which
- 12:42Speaker 2: I don't think is going to hurt. I think Jalen
- 12:44Speaker 2: Hurts will be the best quarterback, sneak quarterback, even without
- 12:48Speaker 2: the tush push. The guy can squat 650 pounds and
- 12:50Speaker 2: got a good offensive line. So I don't think that'll
- 12:52Speaker 2: be that big of a deal.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And he's not tall. And he's not. Right. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 12:58Speaker 1: But it might be the situation where you peaked. It's reasonable.
- 13:04Speaker 2: You won a Super Bowl. You went to two. He
- 13:06Speaker 2: got a Super Bowl MVP. He's never going to be
- 13:09Speaker 2: a great thrower. You gave him a quarter of a
- 13:11Speaker 2: billion dollars, and you're going to have a couple of
- 13:14Speaker 2: years of frustration here.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Yeah, the peaked argument, you know, I worry about this
- 13:20Speaker 1: with America's team, the Detroit Lions. Like, I'm in it
- 13:22Speaker 1: with them at least for a little while. But that's like,
- 13:25Speaker 1: That's the fear and the concern. I'm going to be
- 13:26Speaker 1: a television producer right fast. I'm not saying that your
- 13:29Speaker 1: television show would do this, and I want to be
- 13:31Speaker 1: careful naming other television shows by name because I don't
- 13:34Speaker 1: want to put you in an uncomfortable position there, but
- 13:36Speaker 1: I would just simply say that somewhere, at some point,
- 13:41Speaker 1: this week maybe, and maybe another week, depending upon how
- 13:44Speaker 1: these two gentlemen play, somebody's going to put it up
- 13:47Speaker 1: on a screen. You're going to see it on a chyron.
- 13:49Speaker 1: That's what they call it, the thing at the bottom
- 13:51Speaker 1: of the screen.
- 13:52Speaker 2: The bottom line, yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Who you got. Jalen or Shador? Oof. I can promise
- 14:06Speaker 1: you that will be another show.
- 14:09Speaker 2: And then I will keep my thoughts to this podcast
- 14:12Speaker 2: or our text messages.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Like I'm saying, we're
- 14:15Speaker 1: just talking about a hypothetical situation right now, right? Nobody
- 14:19Speaker 1: has actually done it. By the time we get done recording, however,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it may.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Be on the screen already.
- 14:24Speaker 1: But I'm telling you right now, somebody is like, I
- 14:28Speaker 1: don't know, man. I think that might have some sizzle
- 14:31Speaker 1: to it. Yeah, well, it's got some sizzle. Can we
- 14:34Speaker 1: talk Shador for a minute? Sure. What do you... I mean,
- 14:38Speaker 1: by the way, we watched, we were in the same
- 14:40Speaker 1: room while that game was going and walking and I mean,
- 14:43Speaker 1: watching and talking as it went while also watching a
- 14:45Speaker 1: zillion games. But we, we, we were in the same
- 14:48Speaker 1: boat on that one.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Yes. And, and I, we did it on the show yesterday.
- 14:52Speaker 2: And so I went back and watched like the YouTube
- 14:54Speaker 2: cut up of every Shador throw. Cause we do have,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you know, we got three TVs and one's on the
- 15:00Speaker 2: quad box and one's on red zone.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It's like football overload. Right.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Um, Before I talk about what I think Shador actually is,
- 15:09Speaker 2: what is the stew? Because it's clearly a lot of ingredients.
- 15:12Speaker 2: If we just started, some of it is fame, and
- 15:16Speaker 2: some of it is just his father, and some of
- 15:19Speaker 2: it is confirmation bias. What is the stew that has
- 15:22Speaker 2: made the media go insane on this? Because I think
- 15:25Speaker 2: that this is... People compare it to Tebow, and I
- 15:29Speaker 2: don't think it's wildly unfair.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I feel like I am.
- 15:32Speaker 2: covering a story differently than 95 of our peers yeah
- 15:37Speaker 2: it's very odd to me like i want to talk
- 15:41Speaker 2: about this kid like he was a fifth round pick
- 15:43Speaker 2: that the media got wrong before the draft and see
- 15:45Speaker 2: if it works out but no one else seems to
- 15:47Speaker 2: be able to keep him within that prism.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah so it's interesting you say that because i made
- 15:51Speaker 1: an argument um a couple of weeks ago that he
- 15:55Speaker 1: was not an underdog and i kind of started rethinking
- 15:59Speaker 1: that to a degree and he's not an underdog in
- 16:02Speaker 1: the sense that his father is Deion Sanders and has
- 16:04Speaker 1: been able to put his thumb on the scale in
- 16:06Speaker 1: some ways to get him some looks they may not
- 16:08Speaker 1: have gotten otherwise. But if you do view him in
- 16:11Speaker 1: the context of, like, he's a... Cam Ward is the ultimate, right?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Zero-star recruit to number one overall pick with the places
- 16:19Speaker 1: he went, right? But he's much more physically talented than
- 16:22Speaker 1: Shador is, right? That's where it becomes interesting in trying
- 16:24Speaker 1: to figure out exactly, like, who fits in as underdog.
- 16:27Speaker 1: But the truth is, as you point out, He was
- 16:30Speaker 1: a somewhat lightly recruited high school player who started at
- 16:35Speaker 1: a historically black college and then moved up to a
- 16:38Speaker 1: higher level where I was on record as saying he
- 16:41Speaker 1: looked like a good FCS quarterback, but not necessarily a
- 16:45Speaker 1: good FBS quarterback and became a second team All-American. To
- 16:50Speaker 1: get to where he has gotten is actually a pretty
- 16:53Speaker 1: big win, right? But that ain't enough for people now,
- 16:57Speaker 1: is it? Right? Like, and so... I think the things
- 17:01Speaker 1: you listed in the stew are certainly there, but I
- 17:03Speaker 1: think that this is as much as anything else, a
- 17:05Speaker 1: reflection of the ways that we communicate with each other
- 17:09Speaker 1: and the way that social media has poisoned our brains collectively, right?
- 17:15Speaker 1: And so everything becomes a debate point because that's what
- 17:19Speaker 1: gets engagement, right? Like everything becomes something that has to be,
- 17:23Speaker 1: rarely is it there to be discussed. It is very
- 17:26Speaker 1: often there. to be argued. So let me tell you
- 17:29Speaker 1: this one. I think I see a screen grab of this.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I didn't listen to it. So if this isn't exactly
- 17:34Speaker 1: what it is, that's fine. You let me know. But
- 17:36Speaker 1: I'm just going to read to you this synopsis of
- 17:40Speaker 1: something off of Nightcap with Shannon Sharp and Chad Johnson.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And it says, Shannon Sharp tells Chad Ochocinco that he
- 17:47Speaker 1: believes the Cleveland Browns are trying to set Shador Sanders
- 17:51Speaker 1: up by letting him start the remaining games of the
- 17:54Speaker 1: season with with their next games being the Bears, the Bills, Steelers,
- 18:00Speaker 1: and Bengals. Set him up to fail or to succeed?
- 18:08Speaker 1: But they also told me that it was a setup.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And I don't like saying they about just this random
- 18:14Speaker 1: swath of people, but when he wasn't playing. It was
- 18:18Speaker 1: a setup, right? But the reason I say that, I
- 18:20Speaker 1: think it's important to talk about that in the context
- 18:22Speaker 1: of the suit, because also this list of games that
- 18:24Speaker 1: you talk about, the Bengals, they got to make a
- 18:28Speaker 1: wish foundation on defense, and that's the end of the season.
- 18:31Speaker 1: The Steelers, I mean... I don't know, right? The Bills
- 18:34Speaker 1: don't have some great defense. And the Bears, you know
- 18:38Speaker 1: better than I do about what exactly. I mean, they're
- 18:40Speaker 1: a good team, but I don't know. They lead the
- 18:43Speaker 1: league in takeaways, but they've been in multiple shootouts. They're
- 18:47Speaker 1: not a great defense. But this is the kind of thing.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I hear people say things that are so far in
- 18:53Speaker 1: either direction when it comes down to him. I don't see,
- 18:57Speaker 1: and maybe these people are out here, but I don't
- 18:59Speaker 1: see that many people who are that hard on Shador
- 19:01Speaker 1: in public anymore. I see far more people who think
- 19:04Speaker 1: that anything that isn't going exactly his direction is some
- 19:08Speaker 1: kind of setup to hold him down. And I think
- 19:11Speaker 1: that is the broth of the stew is the internet.
- 19:15Speaker 2: And I think that that's the answer probably for a
- 19:17Speaker 2: lot of things nowadays, like that we just all have
- 19:21Speaker 2: some degree of toxic internet brain and it's, it's polluted everything.
- 19:25Speaker 2: And listen, I will like, my true thought is that
- 19:28Speaker 2: a fifth round pick on the Cleveland Browns should not
- 19:31Speaker 2: be a topic, but I don't fight it for when
- 19:34Speaker 2: it gets in the show, because I know it does numbers.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:36Speaker 2: So like, I guess I'm contributing, even when I then
- 19:38Speaker 2: get on the air and try to do the most
- 19:40Speaker 2: reasonable Shador analysis ever.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Almost like intentionally.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Trying not to go viral to make some sort of
- 19:47Speaker 2: defiant point. I could be more defiant and not, allow
- 19:50Speaker 2: it in the show but it's just odd to me
- 19:55Speaker 2: that like he had a statistically very good game against
- 19:59Speaker 2: Tennessee with some absolutely impressive throws I thought the touchdown
- 20:05Speaker 2: didn't joke it was very good I thought the back
- 20:07Speaker 2: pile on throw to fan and was good and I
- 20:10Speaker 2: thought he felt the pressure on some and dumped the
- 20:12Speaker 2: ball off nicely. I thought his stats were a little
- 20:15Speaker 2: inflated with yak. Judkins had a huge run after the catch.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Judy's touchdown was a huge run after the catch. Uh,
- 20:22Speaker 2: so I don't think it, it didn't, it didn't look
- 20:24Speaker 2: to me like a 340 passing yard game, but that's
- 20:27Speaker 2: what the stats ultimately showed. Um, But I've never seen
- 20:32Speaker 2: people so happy to crown a guy a franchise quarterback
- 20:35Speaker 2: for losing to the Tennessee Titans.
- 20:37Speaker 1: The worst team in the league.
- 20:38Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 20:39Speaker 1: But it's because people want it, right? I think this
- 20:43Speaker 1: is maybe the part that I think is the most
- 20:45Speaker 1: interesting is how much about Sanders in the discussion has
- 20:49Speaker 1: been about whether or not he's getting a chance. And
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'm like, when did we start doing that?
- 20:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Like that's just not, that's not the world that we're in.
- 20:58Speaker 1: That's not, no, that's not, it's, it's not that, but
- 21:03Speaker 1: I think it lands in the middle in the sense that,
- 21:05Speaker 1: for example, Stefanski says that should, I was going to
- 21:08Speaker 1: start for the rest of the season. There's no reason
- 21:10Speaker 1: why he should not. And what I've seen, he's been
- 21:13Speaker 1: better than anything that Dylan Gabriel had produced. I don't
- 21:16Speaker 1: watch closely enough to tell you exactly why he is.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I've watched more closely with your door than I did
- 21:20Speaker 1: with Dylan Gabriel, I guess is the point that I'm saying.
- 21:22Speaker 1: So I'm not in a great position. to be comparative.
- 21:24Speaker 1: But yeah, he should be playing for the rest of
- 21:26Speaker 1: the year and the Browns will be fools if they
- 21:28Speaker 1: don't take a quarterback as early as they possibly can
- 21:32Speaker 1: next year. Like, come on, man. Like this is, this is,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and that leads us then to an open world and
- 21:39Speaker 1: set up where the Eagles can trade a fourth or
- 21:42Speaker 1: fifth round pick and bring Shador Sanders in and give
- 21:45Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts somebody behind him to make sure that, you know,
- 21:50Speaker 1: he doing what he's supposed to do in the off
- 21:51Speaker 1: season and then go boy like you think they're having
- 21:54Speaker 1: a good time in philly now.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I don't think like that listen i think that's the
- 21:59Speaker 2: thing like i i we have seen nfl teams sour
- 22:03Speaker 2: on quarterbacks they don't want headlines for backups which is
- 22:08Speaker 2: reasonable it's a reasonable thing to not want yeah uh
- 22:12Speaker 2: your backup quarterback to be a distraction i i think
- 22:16Speaker 2: it I think it shortened Cam Newton's career, not to
- 22:18Speaker 2: have a whole Cam Newton conversation. It was a factor
- 22:21Speaker 2: with Tim Tebow. We have seen it before. So Shador
- 22:25Speaker 2: is going to have to be exceptional. And if he
- 22:27Speaker 2: goes into next year with a top five pick, a
- 22:32Speaker 2: $ 230 million quarterback, say whatever you want to say about
- 22:36Speaker 2: the Sean Watson, but the owner was at his wedding
- 22:39Speaker 2: last this year.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Like, you know what I mean?
- 22:41Speaker 2: Like, you're like, Oh wow. The owner wants to do her.
- 22:44Speaker 2: I think the owner wants the Sean.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Right. Although God knows how cooked he's going to, he's
- 22:51Speaker 1: coming off an Achilles, right?
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But you're right. But no, no, you're absolutely right. That
- 22:57Speaker 1: best case scenario for Jimmy Haslam is the renaissance of
- 23:02Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson. Yes, of course that is what he is.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I had completely forgotten about this.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Dude, that is, dude, he is, it's the worst trade
- 23:10Speaker 2: in NFL history by far. And he guaranteed his contract
- 23:14Speaker 2: and all of his billionaire friends hated him for it.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Of course he wants to get the last laugh on that.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Like if next year you have a new coach, shadur
- 23:25Speaker 2: sanders a top five pick and deshaun wants.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It i mean it's gonna be on our show every
- 23:32Speaker 1: day it's gonna be every day when you put it
- 23:37Speaker 1: like that right like that this is one of those
- 23:39Speaker 1: when you put it like that scenario yeah.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Man like i so but but whose trade shadur would
- 23:45Speaker 2: have to be I can't even fathom what he would
- 23:48Speaker 2: have to do the rest of the way for them
- 23:50Speaker 2: to not use a top five pick on a quarterback.
- 23:53Speaker 1: No, no, no, no. It's impossible for me. There's nothing right.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I agree. Now that being said, what quarterback have you seen?
- 24:02Speaker 2: None.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Right. Like I watched Francisco Mendoza the other night. Yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I mean, okay. That's what we doing. That's fine. That's
- 24:12Speaker 1: the guy that people say. I, I, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Listen,
- 24:17Speaker 1: if the answer is this happens to be the year,
- 24:21Speaker 1: the 2013 draft, like the Eric Fisher. The EJ manual.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Dion Jordan, Wayne Johnson, like that draft. If this
- 24:31Speaker 2: happens to be that year, then okay. Don't draft a
- 24:36Speaker 2: guy you hate with a top five pick. That's not
- 24:39Speaker 2: a way to build a winning franchise. But assuming someone
- 24:44Speaker 2: is there that, your football Illuminati agrees in to let
- 24:50Speaker 2: a fifth round pick have six games to change your
- 24:55Speaker 2: mind and make you go away from that would be
- 24:56Speaker 2: completely insane.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Well you just have to really believe it right like
- 24:59Speaker 1: you have to really believe in the position that for
- 25:02Speaker 1: example Kyle Shanahan was in with Brock Purdy where it
- 25:06Speaker 1: reached a point where he was like no no no
- 25:09Speaker 1: we really believe this and for what it's worth Brock
- 25:11Speaker 1: Purdy starting NFL quarterback right I think that The point
- 25:15Speaker 1: that you make if you're on Team Shador about this
- 25:18Speaker 1: is if Brock Purdy, who had a fairly similar collegiate
- 25:21Speaker 1: profile to Shador Sanders, he was a very good college quarterback,
- 25:24Speaker 1: although he was all over the place, he was still good.
- 25:27Speaker 1: But if you think that he can become a starting quarterback,
- 25:31Speaker 1: because we're not even talking about franchise, like I think
- 25:33Speaker 1: we say franchise too much. Let's not even ask if
- 25:36Speaker 1: he can become a franchise quarterback. If he can become
- 25:38Speaker 1: a starting quarterback, an example of a starting quarterback would
- 25:41Speaker 1: be Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy, other guys of that caliber.
- 25:44Speaker 1: If you think you've got a starting quarterback, you buy
- 25:47Speaker 1: in on that, right? Yes, yes, but okay, I just...
- 25:53Speaker 1: Those teams would say that those guys are franchise quarterbacks.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I know they would say it.
- 25:57Speaker 2: When you give them $ 250 million, aren't they franchise quarterbacks?
- 26:01Speaker 1: Right, I think, but the problem is that's what they
- 26:03Speaker 1: all get, right? So like, that's why I say we
- 26:06Speaker 1: use the term so broadly, but those guys are really,
- 26:08Speaker 1: Tua Tunga-Vailoa is a starting quarterback. Your guy Herbert, until
- 26:13Speaker 1: proven otherwise, is a very good starting quarterback, right? I
- 26:19Speaker 1: look at this with the Browns, and if they get
- 26:21Speaker 1: in the draft next year, if you don't see a
- 26:24Speaker 1: first round pick as a quarterback, do you wind up doing, say,
- 26:29Speaker 1: like the Steelers did with Kenny Pickett, where it's like, damn,
- 26:31Speaker 1: we got to do this eventually. all right, man, let's go.
- 26:34Speaker 1: All right.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Go ahead and get one of those.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Like, like you don't want to wind up in a
- 26:37Speaker 1: situation where you're like shopping at the airport. Like, damn,
- 26:42Speaker 1: I don't have a blank. I don't have headphones. I'm
- 26:45Speaker 1: about to get on this plane. Why do these headphones
- 26:48Speaker 1: cost $ 500? And they, they, they ain't even got the deep.
- 26:51Speaker 1: They ain't even got noise canceled.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Right. You know, it's, it's a tricky one. I, I
- 27:00Speaker 2: think the Kenny Pickett situation is not, That's just not
- 27:03Speaker 2: ever the answer. Right. It's never a good idea to reach.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Because a first-round pick is a tremendous asset if you
- 27:12Speaker 2: hit on them at any position.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Yes. You know what I mean?
- 27:15Speaker 2: If you draft a great right tackle with a first-round pick,
- 27:20Speaker 2: it's a huge cost-saving thing compared to what you would
- 27:22Speaker 2: have to pay a great right tackle in free agency.
- 27:25Speaker 2: So hitting on first-round picks is a supremely important way
- 27:30Speaker 2: in building a good football team. So I would not
- 27:33Speaker 2: advocate for the reach for the Kenny Pickett level prospect
- 27:35Speaker 2: situation ever, but man, you talk about sports radio, sports
- 27:41Speaker 2: radio in Cleveland in a George Sanders and Sean Watson
- 27:46Speaker 2: quarterback battle, man. I don't know.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Like I just, cause there's a lot of Browns fans
- 27:51Speaker 1: who seem to believe. I have not. gone into the
- 27:56Speaker 1: Cleveland radio. I, and I love doing that from time
- 27:58Speaker 1: to time. It's been a while since I've done. Oh,
- 28:01Speaker 1: it's so much fun. My favorite was the morning after
- 28:04Speaker 1: LeBron won the second championship. it uh like i was
- 28:07Speaker 1: calling shows and laughing like i was all over i
- 28:10Speaker 1: was all over rizzo i think it was a rizzo
- 28:12Speaker 1: going hammering those cats oh no no no no no
- 28:15Speaker 1: i'm always here to like oh what's going on up
- 28:18Speaker 1: there in cleveland right now.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Yeah ken carmen and anthony lima that's the show that
- 28:22Speaker 2: i rock with they do a nice show in the
- 28:23Speaker 2: mornings uh carmen could go insane sometimes lima tries to
- 28:27Speaker 2: reign them in but yeah it is a yeah it's
- 28:29Speaker 2: fun like it's fun to those are the markets like
- 28:32Speaker 2: Cold weather markets with passionate, beaten down sports fans.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Yes. You know what I mean? Detroit, Cleveland. But that's
- 28:42Speaker 1: why Philly is so interesting because they're only beaten down
- 28:46Speaker 1: because they fight so much. Right. It's actually been pretty
- 28:49Speaker 1: good for you guys. Yeah.
- 28:51Speaker 2: So I always say that Philly, New York, Boston is
- 28:54Speaker 2: like the big three where like their fans think they're
- 28:57Speaker 2: smarter than the GM and uh, like being mean is
- 29:00Speaker 2: in their DNA. And then Chicago is like the capital
- 29:03Speaker 2: of everybody else. Like we, we can be mean, but
- 29:07Speaker 2: we're still like, we like to think of ourselves as Midwestern. Nice. Yes.
- 29:11Speaker 2: But then like the places to do sports radio are
- 29:14Speaker 2: cold weather city. Cause he local sports radio in LA, Houston.
- 29:21Speaker 2: It's just, it's too nice out.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I do contend. Um, Chicago, New York fans,
- 29:28Speaker 1: and we're going to break with this idea, are far
- 29:30Speaker 1: more beaten down than they get credit for being. The
- 29:34Speaker 1: Bears are a far more miserable sports franchise. They have
- 29:38Speaker 1: an incredible history. and nothing after the history except the
- 29:41Speaker 1: 85 Bears. I'm at Madison Square Garden where they have
- 29:45Speaker 1: an original six hockey team and I believe an original
- 29:49Speaker 1: NBA franchise. When leagues had six and eight teams and
- 29:54Speaker 1: have a combined five championships. Five championships. I've lived here.
- 30:02Speaker 1: This is the ninth football season I've been here. Between
- 30:04Speaker 1: two franchises, I've seen one good team this entire time. No, no, no, no, no.
- 30:10Speaker 1: They don't get nearly enough credit around here for how
- 30:13Speaker 1: much losing they want. Even the Yankees, who have now
- 30:17Speaker 1: not won a championship in 16 years, and that 16
- 30:21Speaker 1: years is the only one they've won in the last 25.
- 30:22Speaker 1: When I was a little kid, the Yankees, by the way,
- 30:26Speaker 1: were terrible. Like, 80s before the run starts terrible. They've
- 30:31Speaker 1: taken a lot of L's up here. I don't feel
- 30:33Speaker 1: a Philadelphia. I feel like reasonably competitive, except the Sixers
- 30:37Speaker 1: have done things to them, but you know, that's true.
- 30:40Speaker 2: And, and the, my least favorite person on the internet
- 30:43Speaker 2: is that Boston sports kid that holds up the sign
- 30:46Speaker 2: at every championship where he's like, I've been to nine
- 30:48Speaker 2: championships and I'm seven years old. And then he keeps
- 30:51Speaker 2: updating it.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, they used, they used to get beat down.
- 30:55Speaker 1: And the one team, you know, the Celtics was doing
- 30:56Speaker 1: all the winning, but you know, That's sizzling. They got
- 30:59Speaker 1: a weird relationship. The Bruins guaranteed to sell out. The
- 31:02Speaker 1: Celtics better be good. That's kind of how Boston works.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Coming up next, if you don't know what I'm about
- 31:09Speaker 1: to tell you, you're never going to believe it. Those
- 31:12Speaker 1: of you who I haven't even said what it is
- 31:14Speaker 1: know exactly what I'm talking about. It's that crazy. Coming
- 31:17Speaker 1: up next. We're back with Danny Parkins. I'm just going
- 31:24Speaker 1: to have to come out and say it. Because the
- 31:27Speaker 1: Colts are down quarterbacks, Daniel Jones tore an Achilles. Anthony
- 31:31Speaker 1: Richardson got a broken face. Phillip Rivers is going to
- 31:36Speaker 1: come work out for the Colts. And if the workout
- 31:40Speaker 1: goes okay, it sounds like they're going to let Phillip
- 31:42Speaker 1: Rivers play for them. I need you to understand something
- 31:45Speaker 1: about Phillip Rivers. Phillip Rivers is 44 years old. And
- 31:49Speaker 1: not only is that really old to still be playing football,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I heard this morning, He has a biological child who
- 31:58Speaker 1: is older than Riley Leonard, the Colts backup. Because Riley
- 32:01Speaker 1: Leonard might not be able to play this week. Wait
- 32:03Speaker 1: a minute. So is Phillip, it just dawned on me
- 32:06Speaker 1: as I was saying that is the plan that Phillip
- 32:08Speaker 1: rivers might play on Sunday. That's impossible. I refuse to
- 32:12Speaker 1: believe that. Hold on. Hold on.
- 32:14Speaker 2: I saw it said, like, could be put on the
- 32:16Speaker 2: practice squad and could be an option is how I
- 32:19Speaker 2: saw the wording.
- 32:20Speaker 1: I don't think. Okay. Okay.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Okay. Okay. Okay. Hold on.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Hold on. All right.
- 32:23Speaker 1: So, uh, backup Riley Leonard has a knee injury. Um,
- 32:28Speaker 1: And this is from Stephen Holder at ESPN. This is
- 32:31Speaker 1: the lead in the next paragraph. The Colts quarterback saga
- 32:35Speaker 1: has taken another twist, which started Daniel Jones out for
- 32:38Speaker 1: the season because of a torn right Achilles in back
- 32:40Speaker 1: of Riley Leonard dealing with a knee injury. The Colts could, shockingly,
- 32:43Speaker 1: turn to retired NFL great Phillip Rivers as an emergency solution.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I want to say retired NFL great is a stretch.
- 32:53Speaker 1: But yes, Phillip Rivers has not played since... They couldn't
- 32:57Speaker 1: even fill up the stadiums with people. People had masks on. 2020,
- 33:01Speaker 1: the last time he played.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Oh, he is a semi-finalist for induction in the Hall
- 33:11Speaker 2: of Fame. This year.
- 33:13Speaker 1: This year. This year. This is correct.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Hold on. Hold on. I'm sorry. I don't mean to
- 33:20Speaker 1: interrupt you. No, I didn't mean to interrupt you. I
- 33:22Speaker 1: just read a paragraph in this that blows my mind.
- 33:25Speaker 1: The Colts believe Rivers' familiarity could give them a realistic
- 33:30Speaker 1: chance to stay competitive. I mean, stop.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Stop.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Now, okay.
- 33:40Speaker 2: There's a lot of things to unpack here. You got
- 33:44Speaker 2: to feel terrible if you're Riley Leonard. Like, he thought
- 33:49Speaker 2: he was doing okay. He had risen up to be
- 33:52Speaker 2: a backup quarterback in the NFL. Yes.
- 33:55Speaker 1: He's young. And they're like, oh, God, we need to
- 33:59Speaker 1: call a grandpa.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yes.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Like that. That has to be super humbling. Also for
- 34:05Speaker 1: Brett Rippon. So apparently Brett Rippon is on the practice squad.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And so it sounds like if Riley Leonard could not
- 34:12Speaker 1: play this week, then they will bring up Brett Rippon.
- 34:16Speaker 1: And then Philip Rivers would then get on the practice
- 34:18Speaker 1: squad to get. This is a movie. Okay. Yeah.
- 34:24Speaker 2: If, if a comedy, if it ends well, like, or,
- 34:28Speaker 2: or it's, or it's a tragedy. Cause he's going to
- 34:31Speaker 2: get broken. I mean, how he can't be in shape
- 34:36Speaker 2: to do.
- 34:37Speaker 1: This, right? This isn't Tom Brady, right? So let me
- 34:41Speaker 1: tell you this about Tom Brady. I don't know if
- 34:42Speaker 1: you've ever had anything like this happen, but I was
- 34:44Speaker 1: doing radio for ESPN and I was, this is the
- 34:47Speaker 1: TB 12 stuff was coming up, you know, and, I
- 34:52Speaker 1: still got questions, but whatever, right? Yeah, no kidding. The
- 34:55Speaker 1: most compelling thing I ever heard about the Tom Brady
- 34:58Speaker 1: TV 12 stuff, and remember Tom Brady's big thing, and
- 35:00Speaker 1: I do think that he was right about this, is
- 35:02Speaker 1: that pliability was what was most important. Like the guys
- 35:04Speaker 1: with the greatest longevity are like the Ricky Hendersons and
- 35:07Speaker 1: the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's. They were all flexibility yoga type guys, right?
- 35:12Speaker 1: Like that's LeBron James is another great example. Like super,
- 35:16Speaker 1: like flexibility is the game if you want to play
- 35:19Speaker 1: For a long time. OK, cool. So we're doing the show.
- 35:22Speaker 1: And Trevor Price, former Pro Bowl defensive lineman, played for
- 35:26Speaker 1: the Ravens, played for the Broncos, went to Clemson, right?
- 35:30Speaker 1: He calls up because he's just listening on his way home.
- 35:32Speaker 1: And he said, oh, no, no, no. It's much different
- 35:35Speaker 1: when you hit Ben Roethlisberger versus hitting Tom Brady. He
- 35:40Speaker 1: was like, when you hit Ben Roethlisberger, it's like hitting
- 35:44Speaker 1: something made of glass. And he was like, and glass breaks.
- 35:48Speaker 1: He said that when you hit Tom Brady, it felt
- 35:50Speaker 1: like he melted into you. This idea of this supernatural
- 35:55Speaker 1: flexibility or whatever is that once he knew the hit
- 35:58Speaker 1: was coming, that he could just steer into the skid, basically.
- 36:03Speaker 1: And Look, he did play- It's like why kids don't
- 36:06Speaker 1: get hurt when they fall. Exactly, right? And look, he
- 36:09Speaker 1: did play till he was 45. There's something to it. Yeah, no,
- 36:12Speaker 1: Brady was amazing.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Now, Phillip Rivers- I have no idea what kind of
- 36:17Speaker 1: dedication to physical fitness he does or does not have.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Because on one hand, nothing about him indicates that he
- 36:23Speaker 1: cares that much about physical fitness. But on the other hand,
- 36:26Speaker 1: that also means he might be a little bit pliable.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Because the one thing he's not in there doing is
- 36:30Speaker 1: just throwing up weight every day. Right? Like, I imagine
- 36:33Speaker 1: that Phillip Rivers, with no shirt on, looks like a pillow. Yeah.
- 36:38Speaker 1: But he might be a firm pillow. But a pillow nonetheless.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and like.
- 36:45Speaker 2: You know, there's a, I've heard Gronk say, Gronk gets asked, like,
- 36:49Speaker 2: you know, could Tom Brady quarterback still? And he always gives, like,
- 36:54Speaker 2: a pretty reasonable answer. He's like, yeah, if he couldn't
- 36:56Speaker 2: get hit. You know, like, I absolutely believe that it's
- 37:02Speaker 2: on the realm of possibilities that, like, Phillip Rivers' brain
- 37:07Speaker 2: and arm is still NFL caliber-ish, right? Like, Joe Flacco
- 37:16Speaker 2: has had moments of looking good this year. Now, he's 41,
- 37:20Speaker 2: and Rivers is 44, and Flacco has been playing continuously.
- 37:23Speaker 2: And in theory, Phillip Rivers has been playing with magnet
- 37:27Speaker 2: tiles and building blocks and playing with all those children
- 37:30Speaker 2: that he has. So I understand that that's different. But
- 37:32Speaker 2: I think it's totally within the realm of possibility that
- 37:35Speaker 2: Phillip Rivers' ability to process a defense and his ability
- 37:39Speaker 2: to hit a 15-yard out is better than Riley Leonard's.
- 37:43Speaker 2: That seems reasonable to me. But the problem is it's
- 37:45Speaker 2: tackle football. Yes.
- 37:48Speaker 1: You have to move. You just indirectly made a great point.
- 37:53Speaker 1: The reason that Rob Gronkowski doesn't still play football anymore
- 37:57Speaker 1: is because he doesn't want to get hit.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And by the way, when he gets hit, he's also
- 38:03Speaker 1: hitting back at the same time. The thing that's underrated
- 38:07Speaker 1: about being quarterback is Rob, so many of those hits are,
- 38:10Speaker 1: there ain't nothing you can do about it. Like it's
- 38:12Speaker 1: the only job where you have to act like people
- 38:16Speaker 1: aren't trying to hit you. I guess why a receiver
- 38:18Speaker 1: to a certain degree also, but like you just have
- 38:20Speaker 1: to stand there and be like, you know, somebody might
- 38:22Speaker 1: hit me in the kidneys while I'm not looking.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Yeah. But I mean, at least a lot of the
- 38:25Speaker 2: time you are also running. Like, so you're in, could
- 38:29Speaker 2: deliver some blow. Yeah. You have to, Brady is an
- 38:33Speaker 2: outlier until proven otherwise. And I believe that, like, we've
- 38:36Speaker 2: gotten much better at sports science and sports medicine and
- 38:39Speaker 2: nutrition and flexibility to, like, you know, the old thing, like,
- 38:42Speaker 2: you couldn't be a running back after 27.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Or, like, those things have changed.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Clearly.
- 38:49Speaker 1: But I tend to believe you also have to, like,
- 38:52Speaker 1: continuously be an athlete. Like, I don't think you can
- 38:56Speaker 1: be Hall of Fame eligible.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:58Speaker 1: And then come in and start an NFL game mid-season. Hey, look,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I could be wrong because I don't know this man.
- 39:03Speaker 1: But do you think that Phillip Rivers is still out here?
- 39:06Speaker 1: Is he Colin Kaepernick still working out every day, waiting
- 39:09Speaker 1: on a call that's never going to come, except it did? Yeah,
- 39:12Speaker 1: I don't know. I would be surprised. I know this.
- 39:15Speaker 2: I have a three-year-old and a five-year-old. And at the
- 39:19Speaker 2: end of my day... I'm tired. Now add seven more kids.
- 39:27Speaker 1: I just have to assume that it's not going to go. well.
- 39:30Speaker 2: And also, Indianapolis, you are the eighth seed in the
- 39:35Speaker 2: AFC right now. You have lost four of five and
- 39:38Speaker 2: three straight.
- 39:39Speaker 1: They could lose out. Well, that's what I was going
- 39:42Speaker 1: to say.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Here are your last four. At Seattle, top three defense
- 39:47Speaker 2: in football. Home against San Francisco on Monday night. Okay,
- 39:52Speaker 2: not an injured defense, but Robert Sala, he has them
- 39:56Speaker 2: overachieving like crazy. Jacksonville, pretty good defense this year. Houston
- 40:03Speaker 2: on the road, best defense in football with a bullet.
- 40:07Speaker 2: So you're playing two of the three best defenses on
- 40:11Speaker 2: the road, a top three defensive coach in Robert Sala. Like, stop.
- 40:18Speaker 1: It's not worth it. These are the kinds of decisions
- 40:21Speaker 1: that you make when you don't have your first round pick. Oh, right. Right.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah, man. I, I said it at the time. It
- 40:30Speaker 2: has worked trading multiple first round picks for non quarterbacks,
- 40:35Speaker 2: but I would never do it. Like, I mean, maybe
- 40:38Speaker 2: for an edge rusher. I, I may, maybe, but like,
- 40:43Speaker 2: and like the sauce Gardner thing, at least you didn't
- 40:45Speaker 2: have to immediately pay him top of market. But what
- 40:48Speaker 2: often happens in these situations, like with the two edge
- 40:50Speaker 2: rushers that it happened with, Khalil Mack and Micah Parsons,
- 40:54Speaker 2: you have to give up all the draft capital and
- 40:56Speaker 2: then pay them the biggest contract ever.
- 40:59Speaker 1: The Bears thought they had their QB in Trubisky. They didn't.
- 41:02Speaker 1: They had one good year.
- 41:04Speaker 2: The Packers obviously have Jordan Love and think they can
- 41:06Speaker 2: win the Super Bowl, so maybe it'll work. The Rams
- 41:08Speaker 2: won a Super Bowl with Jalen Ramsey, but then he
- 41:10Speaker 2: was gone like a year and.
- 41:11Speaker 1: A half later.
- 41:12Speaker 2: I just, you made this bet on Sauce Gardner because
- 41:15Speaker 2: you were you would have made a bigger bet on
- 41:17Speaker 2: Daniel Jones. And now you've got no first round picks
- 41:21Speaker 2: and your other option is Anthony Richardson. Like you're just screwed.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, right fast before we get to the, what
- 41:28Speaker 1: we go close with, I just saw something as we
- 41:30Speaker 1: were talking that, and who knows if this is actually true,
- 41:33Speaker 1: but it'll just birth, bring it up. And it says,
- 41:36Speaker 1: Ever since CP3 got sent home, he's been doing what
- 41:39Speaker 1: he's been wanting to do more of, spend time with
- 41:42Speaker 1: his son. Adam, my question for you, is that a
- 41:44Speaker 1: win for this son or not? Because I'm seeing it
- 41:47Speaker 1: with a video of little Chris on the timeline and
- 41:51Speaker 1: Chris Paul standing behind him with his hands on his hips.
- 41:55Speaker 1: What's there to watch? He's running on a fucking treadmill. Like,
- 41:58Speaker 1: what is there for you to observe here? Oh, my God. Like,
- 42:00Speaker 1: if Chris Paul is like this with adults... What do
- 42:04Speaker 1: you think he's like with his teenager? Dad, I just
- 42:08Speaker 1: want to have fun with my friends. Yeah, listen, sports parents, man.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Hold on, with the gym built into the house. I
- 42:16Speaker 1: have to see this. Where can I find it? I
- 42:18Speaker 1: will send you the link now. But I just had
- 42:20Speaker 1: never thought about what it was like when the Paul
- 42:24Speaker 1: family found out dad's coming back. they were just like
- 42:30Speaker 1: oh no like he's not even leaving to go forget
- 42:32Speaker 1: about road trips he's not even leaving to go to work.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah man well chris paul he's a real case for
- 42:41Speaker 2: two things can be true all-time great point guard yes
- 42:45Speaker 2: all-time pain in the.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Ass yes yes and those two things are not unrelated right.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Yeah absolutely michael jordan leadership has a cost like yeah
- 42:54Speaker 2: yeah yeah there's definitely a connection here looking at your
- 42:58Speaker 2: text now oh man.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Yeah yeah just i mean just i just can't imagine
- 43:03Speaker 1: what it's like with chris paul standing there with his
- 43:05Speaker 1: arms folded.
- 43:06Speaker 2: No that's gotta just be that's gotta be miserable.
- 43:09Speaker 1: It's tough tough break man tough for.
- 43:11Speaker 2: All parties involved um You said what you were going
- 43:15Speaker 2: to close with, what we talked about at the end. Yeah, man.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Yeah, man. These Syracuse guys come with their own material,
- 43:20Speaker 1: and I appreciate it. Yeah, Lefkoe brings material.
- 43:24Speaker 2: And I was thinking about this is the type of
- 43:26Speaker 2: thing that I would maybe try to make some content
- 43:30Speaker 2: with if I still had a four-hour-a-day radio show.
- 43:33Speaker 1: On a Wednesday.
- 43:34Speaker 2: And now this is a one hour podcast on a Tuesday,
- 43:37Speaker 2: but I live in Pleasantville.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Okay. I don't know.
- 43:39Speaker 2: I don't know if you watch, uh, my friends and neighbors,
- 43:43Speaker 2: or if you're familiar with the concept, it's the Jon Hamm,
- 43:45Speaker 2: Apple TV show, Jon Hamm, New York finance guy clearly has,
- 43:50Speaker 2: you know, eight figures worth of money, uh, but decides
- 43:53Speaker 2: he would rather just like steal from his neighbors who
- 43:55Speaker 2: have like expensive shit laying around their house that they
- 43:58Speaker 2: haven't thought of because no crime happens in these places.
- 44:01Speaker 2: And so that's what the television show. So I live
- 44:04Speaker 2: in one of these places. I will not give away
- 44:05Speaker 2: the specific suburb or the specific roads for identifying factors.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Not really for me, but for these other people. But
- 44:10Speaker 1: there's not any crime here. And so there's a free
- 44:13Speaker 1: newspaper that.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Goes out once a month that details the things that
- 44:20Speaker 2: the police department has had called in. Things that the
- 44:24Speaker 2: cops have had to respond to. So I pulled some
- 44:26Speaker 2: of these. And I think that they are there. Would
- 44:30Speaker 2: you have called the cops, basically? Here we go. An
- 44:33Speaker 2: Ogden Road resident reported that she received two irate phone
- 44:37Speaker 2: calls from her neighbor after she put a lock on
- 44:40Speaker 2: a fence door between the two properties to keep her
- 44:43Speaker 2: neighbor from walking.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Into her yard.
- 44:45Speaker 2: After police talked with both neighbors, the lock was removed
- 44:49Speaker 2: and both agreed to stay out of each other's yards.
- 44:52Speaker 1: This made it into the newspaper.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Made it into the newspaper. Imagine calling the police over
- 44:59Speaker 2: this issue. Here's another one.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Here's another one.
- 45:01Speaker 2: This might be my favorite, but we're going to lead hot.
- 45:06Speaker 2: After responding to a report of a blonde man in
- 45:09Speaker 2: a striped shirt lying on the ground off Heathcote Road,
- 45:13Speaker 2: police found a scarecrow on a front lawn.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Oh. These are human.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Beings that I'm sending my kid to school with that
- 45:25Speaker 2: I'm expected to hang out with at children's events. They
- 45:29Speaker 2: are so pampered and privileged and sheltered that they called
- 45:34Speaker 2: the cops in October in suburbia because a scarecrow was
- 45:39Speaker 2: on the ground.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Counterpoint. If they're going to pay for them cops, they're
- 45:42Speaker 1: going to make them do some work. Okay. Okay. That
- 45:47Speaker 1: is a reasonable counterpoint. And those kind of people are
- 45:50Speaker 1: those types.
- 45:51Speaker 2: I got an alert from my kid's school, okay? My
- 45:55Speaker 2: wife sent it to me. I didn't believe it was real.
- 45:58Speaker 2: She confirmed it was real. They did not allow the
- 46:02Speaker 2: kids to go out for recess one day. And they
- 46:06Speaker 2: called it a soft shutdown because there was a sighting
- 46:12Speaker 2: of a raccoon. And so they called the cops. called
- 46:17Speaker 2: the police, and asked for extra patrols around the school
- 46:21Speaker 2: to come look into the raccoon situation. I went to
- 46:25Speaker 2: the Halloween thing at the kids' school, and I've been
- 46:29Speaker 2: dying to talk to someone about this. I talked to
- 46:35Speaker 2: my wife knows this other mom, trying to make conversation
- 46:39Speaker 2: with this random dad. I'm like, Hey, man, I had
- 46:42Speaker 2: my first, you know, welcome to blank town moment with
- 46:45Speaker 2: this soft shutdown over the raccoon policy. And he looks
- 46:49Speaker 2: me dead in the eye without a hint of sarcasm, irony,
- 46:54Speaker 2: or even the appearance that he had ever heard a joke.
- 46:58Speaker 2: And he says, that's a good policy. Do you want
- 47:03Speaker 2: your kid to get rabies? What the fuck are you
- 47:10Speaker 2: talking about? These are people who walk among us. I
- 47:19Speaker 2: have hundreds of them. An Oxford Road resident told police
- 47:23Speaker 2: that a man wearing a mask and blue coat walked
- 47:25Speaker 2: down his driveway, stopped, turned around, and then walked back
- 47:30Speaker 2: up his driveway.
- 47:32Speaker 1: You called the cops.
- 47:35Speaker 2: An East Parkway resident reported that she found several packets
- 47:39Speaker 2: of sugar on the hood of her car at noon.
- 47:42Speaker 2: She removed the sugar packets, but when she returned to
- 47:45Speaker 2: her car at 4 p.m., she found more packets of
- 47:48Speaker 2: sugar had been thrown onto the hood of her car.
- 47:52Speaker 1: What am I supposed to do with these people? Hey, man,
- 47:55Speaker 1: this also extends to one of my hotter takes. that
- 47:59Speaker 1: I used to bring up when it was a bit
- 48:01Speaker 1: more controversial, which is, yes, there are many police officers
- 48:09Speaker 1: who have very stressful, very dangerous jobs. And then there's
- 48:15Speaker 1: the other, like, 90% of them. Right? Like, not every
- 48:21Speaker 1: police officer is out here working in the jungle.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Right?
- 48:25Speaker 1: Right. Is out here working the South Bronx. No, no, no, no, no. Like,
- 48:30Speaker 1: when I lived in Miami, I was in Sunny Isles Beach.
- 48:32Speaker 1: I used to look at the cops around there. I'm like, hey, man,
- 48:35Speaker 1: ain't nothing hard about your job. I'm sorry. I know
- 48:37Speaker 1: there's a lot of things that are annoying. And, in fact,
- 48:39Speaker 1: you might even wish that there were some things about
- 48:41Speaker 1: your job that were a little bit more difficult. Because
- 48:43Speaker 1: in your dreams, you out here, da-da, da-da, da-da, da-da, right?
- 48:49Speaker 1: Like you think you want to do all that stuff, right?
- 48:51Speaker 1: But in the end, you out here coming to rustle
- 48:54Speaker 1: up them raccoons. That's like when the stuff start happening,
- 48:57Speaker 1: I forget, one of those tragedies, Or whatever. And people
- 49:01Speaker 1: are like, yo, the local authorities, why did those local cops,
- 49:04Speaker 1: why didn't they go in there? Because cops who are
- 49:06Speaker 1: capable of doing that don't work here. Right. They out
- 49:10Speaker 1: here doing somewhere, they out here for real fighting crime.
- 49:13Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? The rest of these cops
- 49:15Speaker 1: out here doing exactly what you're talking about. I, I, I, yes.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Is an excellent point. That used to be a hotter take.
- 49:24Speaker 2: I would rather them not get the call. I would
- 49:28Speaker 2: rather the tax dollars go to them.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Just sitting in the precinct hanging out.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Because it's just embarrassing. It's embarrassing that you cannot solve
- 49:41Speaker 2: these problems. A blank Parks and Rec employee reported that
- 49:46Speaker 2: a pink penis was spray-painted on the tennis courts of
- 49:49Speaker 2: the middle school sometime over the weekend. The caller requested
- 49:53Speaker 2: extra police patrols after school.
- 49:55Speaker 1: And on weekends. Wait, what's... What is going on?
- 50:01Speaker 2: We've lost the plot as a society.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Hey, man, you know what happened? Those people said to the... No,
- 50:08Speaker 1: I don't have anything. I'm trying to come up with
- 50:10Speaker 1: anything at all, and I have nothing. And so I apologize.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Maybe these were not the best improv prompts. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 50:16Speaker 1: They were very good. Like, I was just thinking, though,
- 50:18Speaker 1: as I said, that I was going to make, like,
- 50:20Speaker 1: some larger societal observation. But I don't think I have one. Like,
- 50:25Speaker 1: this is.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Here's my question. Are they hitting... How many police officers
- 50:30Speaker 1: do they have? Because I feel like somebody getting paid
- 50:32Speaker 1: time and a half for this actually might be the
- 50:35Speaker 1: most offensive part to you was that y'all are paying
- 50:37Speaker 1: time and a half for somebody to sit out there
- 50:39Speaker 1: by the tennis court just in case somebody throws some
- 50:41Speaker 1: meat out there. Dude, it's it.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Listen, the property taxes are the most offensive part about it.
- 50:49Speaker 2: And I'm sure I'm going to find my suburban crew eventually. Like,
- 50:54Speaker 2: it was like, you know, your kids will become friends
- 50:57Speaker 2: and then you'll become friends with their friends' parents.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I don't know. Let me tell you something. I can
- 51:03Speaker 1: tell from this that you and my brother are really
- 51:05Speaker 1: going to start playing a lot of golf together because
- 51:06Speaker 1: you're going to need it.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Dude.
- 51:08Speaker 1: I am down.
- 51:10Speaker 2: When the weather gets nice again, he needs to hit
- 51:12Speaker 2: me back because I need to.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Find my golf crew.
- 51:15Speaker 2: And again, the people up here, I try to talk
- 51:17Speaker 2: to the dads with the golf polos at the school events,
- 51:20Speaker 2: and they all belong to country clubs with crazy initiation fees.
- 51:23Speaker 1: And they're like, oh, what do you do? I'm like,
- 51:25Speaker 1: I do what I do.
- 51:25Speaker 2: And they're like, what do you do? Venture capital, hedge fund,
- 51:30Speaker 2: investment banking. I don't want to talk to any of you.
