- KayOhKnee: Welcome back to the podcast. I'm your co-host, Cody McKeegan. With me today on After the Buzzer is my boy from After the Buzzer. Jared Shiri. Say what's up to the pod boo. Jared Shirai: Hey, what's up? How's it going? KayOhKnee: It has been a min man, every time I hear the song, like when we've been away for a minute and then we hear it again, I'm just like, mmm. Jared Shirai: Always a banger. KayOhKnee: And it's ironic because we did have a big trade with the team that had the guy that dropped this song and made it our new theme song for this podcast. So we'll get into all of that in just a second. But before we do that, we have to give a shout out to our partners over at W Energy. Fantastic tasting energy. All of the energy you need to get through your day. You head on over to W.g. or use the W Energy app in our promo code, which is Poi and Soy. That's P-O-I-N-S-O-I for 10% off your order. Book. Let's talk about some NFL or NBA basketball. Woo! It's been a minute. New sport, new sport. Yeah, it's been a minute since we're gonna talk some NBA basketball. But anyway, we are here. it has been a very long time since our last episode. So, first and foremost, we gotta give a quick congratulations and shout out to the New York Knicks, who are now your 2026 NBA champion. So we Jared Shirai: Hey, it's an NFL basketball. New sport, new sport. KayOhKnee: Anyway, you know, they they had a tough nah, I guess it wasn't that tough, you know. They kind of they kind of dog walked them them Spurs a little bit. But you know, they beat the Spurs who Did have a tough matchup against the Thunder just before they got to the finals and boog, we got to see, you know, this next level of the New York Knicks, led by their captain, their number one, a guy who will undoubtedly end up in the annals of, you know, great New York Knicks in Jalen Brunson. So thoughts, opinions, things you want to shout out, say, do, whatever you wanna do. We gotta get all the way through all this news. So what do you gotta say about the New York Knicks and their championship win? Jared Shirai: I mean for me, first off, like tip your hat to the Spurs, like they actually were up in a lot of games, so but it also credits the New York Knicks a lot more in this regard. I would say it credits them in the sense of they were never out of a game, but they came back from some big deficits throughout the series. but I KayOhKnee: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jared Shirai: Take it to where we talked about last season, where they what what tea what it could have been if they weren't just running such a small roster and running forty-eight minutes and a ragged team who was just broken by the end of season. Like this is what happens when you actually run your rotations, give the minutes that are needed, give the breaks that are needed, so that the team can last through a whole season and at the end of the everything end up being your NBA champion. But tip your hat to Jalen Brunson. Cats showed up, like their defense, their grit showed up. back together. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Jared Shirai: At the end of the day. It also showed like what team basketball should look like when you have your superstar like coming in in the clutch, but also like the defensive proudness of the Josh Hart's, the OGs, even McCal playing defense out there, the size of Mitch and Kat out there, and then your closer and Jalen Brunson. So I mean you gotta kinda tip your hat to this new age look of basketball, I guess you would say. and congrats to Knicks who who well deservedly won this championship coming from behind in what two three of the five three of the four games that they won, so KayOhKnee: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I mean the the collapses by the San Antonio Spurs, I mean that's definitely a talking point that's something that everybody was talking about after, you know, the Knicks finally won everything. it just shows that they're young. I don't you know, I think people are making such a big deal out of it. Everybody's calling there were people calling for the coaching head to, you know, be chopped after all this. It's year two of this, you know what I mean, re Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. Yeah. You're two of Wemby, you're one of Dylan Harper, like, you know. KayOhKnee: That's all I'm saying. I'm like, we're we're talking about a team that literally just was the bottom of the league last year and was just in the finals this year. Like, let's let's pump the brakes a little bit. There's a very bright future for this squad. the one thing I will say though, on the flip side of what you were just talking about with the Knicks, definitely needs to be something done. We talked about it already, about the little you just mentioned it, about the small lineup. I mean, I I think everybody's saying that it definitely needs to be De'Aaron Fox who get ends up getting traded out of this. Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. KayOhKnee: Team. I mean, personally, I understand what they talked about with him and what he did throughout the year and all the sorts of stuff. He was the kind of clutch guy for them for a lot of scenarios. I just think that you don't really need that when you have two other guys who are very much so ready to step in right now and take over that spot. Like to me, Darren Fox is kind of a redundancy that you don't really need. If he can get you a guy that can play on the wing or do something a little bit different for you, whether it's in shooting, whether it's in defending, whether it's just something else, do that. You know what I mean? Like De'Aaron Fox is somebody that when they first made the trade looked great. Then they drafted Dylan Harper. You know what I mean? Now you got three guys who can all occupy that guard spot. And it just feels like one of those things where why not keep the one that's more cost controlled for the next few years in the rookies and, you know, trade DeAaron Fox to whoever is the highest bidder. And I'm not sure that there's gonna be very many because he kind of You know, dipped at value during this series. Yeah. I mean, it was not a great look for him. I think, you know, I know they were placing a lot of onus on him, but the team in general had a lot of, you know, lack lack of daysical play. I think they pointed to that they were just trying to get out and transition and shoot a lot of threes that they really shouldn't have. You know what I mean? But I mean, that's what happens when you're up against a really tough defense in the New York Knicks. And I I got a shot at them as well, man. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Jared Shirai: Yeah, he kinda dipped his value. Mm-hmm. KayOhKnee: Great team basketball, great team in general. So happy that the New York Knicks in general as a collective won this title and are finally gonna be, you know, NBA champions after a very, very long drought. So shout out to all of them. Shout out to all of the guys that got to, you know, witness it and like Patrick Ewing, who never really got a chance to win one, you know what I mean? So, yeah, it was really, really fun to see all the New York Knicks legends out there and to see their crowd going crazy, even though, you know. Jared Shirai: Yep. KayOhKnee: They took it a little overboard, you know. The rioting was a little much, but I mean Yeah. but anyway, shout out to the New York Knicks. Very excited for this next year for them. and that led us to, you know, the NBA draft. We had a a draft that just passed by, you know, we just concluded the second round. not even was it two days ago, yesterday? Jeez, I can't even remember. The days are mixing, so yeah, two days ago, you're right. Yeah. Jared Shirai: just a little. it was two days ago I think. no, actually I think it was yesterday. Wait, wait. No, was it yesterday? KayOhKnee: Yesterday was a s you're right. Yeah. Yesterday was a second round. So yeah, yeah, you're right. So it just concluded yesterday for us, here on the pod. So Boog, I mean, you know, obviously haven't all both of us haven't really been paying attention too much to the draft stuff. Obviously, with me specifically, I was paying attention to the guys that my team was going to be drafting. So, I mean all things told, looking over the draft, actually, you know what, I guess better yet. Jared Shirai: Yeah. Yeah. KayOhKnee: Because there was a big shakeup before the draft did end up happening. Giannis Antetecumpo gets traded to the Miami Heat in a large package that included Tyler Hero, Kellelware, Jaime Hawkes Jr. and I believe I jeez, I forgot his name. It's like I was gonna say Christophs, that's not his name. It's like Crus Cros Kraskus Yakachonis or something no, something. One of those really Jared Shirai: I I'll look for it and try and say his name. KayOhKnee: Yeah. One of those continents type of f fool fool names. Kaspartis. Caspar's. Okay. Or like Kasparis Yakachonis or something like that. I think that's I think that's how they said it. Anyway, but it included those four players, a hall of picks and then the Miami Heat received Giannis Atentecumpo and Bobby Portis. So obviously that was a shake up before the draft because the Bucks ended up Jared Shirai: Yeah. Yeah, Yakuchonis. That looks like yeah. KayOhKnee: getting two picks in the lottery and then, you know, having the ability to pick different players. Book thoughts, opinions on the draft hall for the Mil the Milwaukee Bucks. Jared Shirai: I mean if they were trying to rebuild, I think this is amazing for them in a sense. Like they get Tyler Hero, who's young shooter, wants to be a superstar, right? So this that's kinda where you're gonna go with him. Kalewar, Jaimeakis Jr., they've kinda showed you what they're the the youth that they br they brought to Miami and this will help showcase them a lot more. And you got three first round picks, one which is like one swap pick and a second rounder and like that's already KayOhKnee: yeah. Jared Shirai: Building for your future on top of there was number 13 in this year's draft, which they use on a guard, which actually helps their team as far as depth and everything else. So I do love in the sense of where they are and what they're going through. we knew Giannis wasn't wanted out. We knew they wanted a style a team to probably give them a superstar out of it to build. why not build a Tyler Hero, we've seen what he can do when healthy and when given the opportunity to lead a team and now you're just gonna go help find a supporting cast for that that Miami sorry that that Milwaukee rebuild. for me on the other side of it, you get Giannis alongside Bam. you you put him in a situation where we have seen Miami do amazing things with little things, and now you get two big names in Bam and Giannis to see where they can build and grow from there, as well as you get some depth in Bobby Portis. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: I mean that's that's kind of a huge get. I mean they did get Miles Turner and that's why they I think they were a little okay letting go of Bobby Portis. But at the same time, like when you really think about where it is and where they're going with everything, for me I think this was a an amazing steal for Miami to get Bobby Portis included in this in this trade as well. KayOhKnee: Yeah. And I honestly you I would not be surprised to see them make another move or two where with like some of the other vets 'cause you still have Kyle Kuzma on the roster, you still have Miles Turner on the roster. Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. KayOhKnee: Feels like you could get a little bit more for those two guys. just so that you can have a full, full rebuild with all of your young core. and I yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. I really like what the Bucks were ended were ended up able to grab from the Miami Heat. Kellel Ware was an absolute steal. I think that's your center of the future for the team. you obviously have Tyler Hero in there. They got some really, really good things out of Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: goodness. I was like I was just looking over this Yes, Ryan Rollins. There we go. Sorry. I was like, yeah, really great things out of Ryan Rollins from last year. So now you have a point guard of the future. I mean you're adding to the core with Nate Lament or Nate Nate Ament. Sorry, excuse me. I was just said I know I had it I think I think it got autocorrected because it says Lament on my thing, but I like that's not his name. Nate Amen and then you got Jaime Hawkes who I think will add a lot of depth to the squad. Jared Shirai: Ryan Rollins. Yeah. Yeah. KayOhKnee: They also had Uzman Jang from the the Oklahoma City trade last year with the Bulls. I think that's another great piece for them to kind of build around. And then Braden Burries, who's a really good shooter, was known as a really good shooter throughout the draft process. I think that's somebody that's gonna add a bunch of offensive talent to the squad. So really, I mean, it wasn't just, you know, like Giannis and the team just is absolutely sunk. Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. KayOhKnee: Now they have some pieces to really, really do some things. And now with that, you know, extra draft capital, I think they're gonna be looking a lot stronger than, you know, they did the last couple of years, which is sad to say because realistically when you have Giannis at the Kumpo, you know what I mean, it should be better. They just Milwaukee's as an organization failed to build around him correctly. So, you know. I mean, they did it once, you know what I mean. They won the championship, but you know what I mean. After that they couldn't really do anything. Yeah. Jared Shirai: Yeah. But after that and that's when that's when they had like Chris Middleton and Chris Middleton was healthy. Like they had all those little pieces that were healthy that could provide the the supporting cast for him. And think that was like one of the biggest things for me when when they were trying to rebuild is that they didn't have a healthy supporting cast around Giannis. KayOhKnee: Yeah. No, yeah, yeah. One hundred percent. Yeah. Especially then you had Dame and Dame was injured and all that sort of stuff too. So now looking at sort of the Miami Heat side of things, right? Jared Shirai: Exactly. KayOhKnee: They have Giannis. They have Bam. There's been a lot of rumors around Norman Powell's likely gonna be gone because he had an all-star season with them, but he's gonna be moving on just because they can't really afford to keep paying him. they still have Andrew Wiggins on the roster. The depth isn't great. You know what I mean? They they definitely have moved off of a lot of their depth. I mean, right now their starting lineup is gonna be s a combination of what is it, Davion Mitchell plus whoever. Jared Shirai: Debian Mitchell and then whoever they get for Norman and Andrew. KayOhKnee: They can find a shooting guard. And it was like then you got Andrew Wiggins, you got Giannis, and then you have Bam Otto Bio. There's a lot of rumors around guys that they're targeting. Kawhi Leonard's has been a name that's been thrown out there. John Morant's been another name that's thrown out there. Who for you would be a good piece for them to go after? I mean, obviously It's gonna take a lot of finangling because they don't really have a lot in cap space. They don't really have a lot in assets right now. They just gave away a majority of that to get Giannis on this team. Or do they even really need to do anything? Like what do you think that this Miami Heat needs to do, especially now that we have the New York Knicks who just won the championship out of the East? So, thoughts, opinions? Jared Shirai: I mean for me I think they need to go get shooters. They got the the bigs taken care of in Giannis, Bobby and Bam. Like you they're already set. Yeah. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah, they got the greatest scorer on the team ever, you know? Eighty-four points in a game. Wow. Yeah. He's the greatest score ever. Crazy. No, greatest score ever. No, it's the greatest score. It's eighty-four points in one game. And it didn't even look like they were trying to give it to him in the second half. Yeah, it looked like he earned it all the way. They weren't even fouling every other play just to make sure that he was at the free throw line. Jared Shirai: Okay, I don't know about greatest score ever, but let's be real about this. Let's be real about it. They should go get the greatest score ever. Ha ha ha. KayOhKnee: No, this is really, really, really like a true scoring just showcase by BAM Autobio. Yeah. Undreo. Andrew, greatest score ever. Jared Shirai: It's scoring as a showcase, right? Yeah. No, honestly though, I think they need to go get some shooters. some wing help. Like Davian Mitchell can probably hold it down. You know, he's like you said, the loss of Norman Powell. Andrew Wiggins is more of Yeah. Andrew Wiggins is more of a slasher for me, with a defensive like Forte. but I mean KayOhKnee: Yeah, I liked him. he did really good. Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: If you're shopping, why not look towards the Lakers? Get like the Ruys, the Luke Connards, like the players that can three and D kind of thing, because that'll help space your flooring out as well for everything. And and I think at the end of the day, that's kind of what they they need. They need those those wing players that'll help stretch the floor and then it'll open up for the BAMs, like to to clog the post, or the Giannis who wants to take the ball to the rack, or you can overload a side and then have that kick out option. But I don't think they have too many true sh- KayOhKnee: Mm-hmm. Jared Shirai: shooters on this team and that's what they need to go and get. So especially after you lose Tyler Hero, right? Yeah. Yeah. KayOhKnee: Yeah. I mean they definitely I mean Tyler Hero. Yeah. Tyler Hero was their shooter, so it's definitely gonna be a lot of scoring that you're gonna have to make up for. I will say that in like that aspect, I I'm looking at some of the guys that like our free agents this offseason. You got Quentin Grimes, I think he would be a really good fit. Tim Hardaway Jr., that's another one that could be a really, really solid fit for them. I mean, these are guys who are sharp shooters that probably won't command a lot of money. I also really like your shout out of Luke Kennard. Jared Shirai: That'd be a great pick. KayOhKnee: That could be somebody could be really, really good for the Miami Heat. All that to say, they're gonna have a lot. I mean, I know, you know, Pat Riley, I still believe is one of the best, you know what I mean? And then Eric Spolster, again, one of the best. Now you have this duel that you're undoubtedly going to be building around. I know there's been rumors too about Andrew Wiggins being included in some kind of trade for somebody bigger if they can if it is somebody big enough to include him in the trade. All that to me points to that they're they they got some moves to make. You know what I mean? They're not Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: Get ready to compete with like the New York Knicks of the world. We'll see what's happening with the Boston Celtics, because that's another team that's been heavily rumored to be looking at moving off of Jalen Brown. So so many things up in the air with that team in general. it'll yeah, it'll definitely be interesting. So on the flip side of that, you know, we have teams like the Washington Wizards who did get the overall number one overall draft pick. They drafted AJ DeBonsa, but to add to that. Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. KayOhKnee: They got a commitment from Anthony Davis. So, you know, he's going to be sticking around in in Washington for a little bit longer. And they got Trey Young on an extension. So Boog. Thoughts and opinions on the Washington Wizards. You know, now they have this new talent in A.J. DeBonsa being added to the roster. they obviously have Trey Young at the helm, and then they, of course, they're gonna have Anthony Davis, who is hopefully healthy to start the season. with Alexander Sarr, you know what I mean? Like it's a it's a interesting mix of talent. What do you think about the Washington Wizards? Do you like their chances at being a top contender in the East next year? Jared Shirai: I don't know about top contender, but contender as and this is my biggest concern every year with the when the team says it's their health. You know? Like especially the AD thing and even Sar, I think at the end of the season he was a little injured as well, kinda beat up. And then when Trey moved over, he didn't get I mean they were probably trying to tank, so that's why he probably didn't play. But I mean if you i on paper, I'm gonna say the the easy way, on paper they look good. Like you got Trey, Keyshawn George, AJ, AD, and Star. That's your starting five right now. Then you Bub Carrington and D'Angelo Russell as your backups, the Trey Johnsons, Koulibaly, Justin Champagner, and then Tristan Rusevich. Like d if you think about those ten players, like they look really good. But it's also for me, not just a health issue of KayOhKnee: yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: There's one ball. We kind of seen the highlights of what AJ AJ can do. We know what A D can do, but that's with the ball. Trey is with the ball. And that's why a lot of this chemistry didn't work. If they're willing to to share it and not have like a superstar, which is probably not gonna happen, that's where their struggle is gonna be. But if they can find a way to be in cohesion, I can see this team like once they figure it out, it could be a very scary team to play against because not only do they have the talent, they have the size to do. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Jared Shirai: Do so. And and that's that's the scary part. Like when you think about a star and A D, they have good size, right? Trey's gonna be your weak link just because he's small, but when he's on, man, that kid can shoot, he can distribute. And then if AJ hits the ground running and he he is that that rookie number one phenom everybody's expecting him to be, then that could be something that's gonna come like rattle some things out of Washington that'll shake up the league just a little bit enough to to maybe attract more players to help with their better depth pieces. Because their second their second string is like they're good role players. They're not there's no like, hey, that kid's gonna be a six man. They say no. There's none. So KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. Yeah. Yeah. I was like I I could not agree more. It really just comes down to health. I think fully healthy though, that's a that's a team that could do some things. Especially when you consider that Trey Young, what he did with the Atlanta Hawks for so long and kind of carrying them into whether it was just the plan or the playoffs in in and of itself. I mean Jared Shirai: Yeah, they're scary. KayOhKnee: Him a lot more motivated with Washington, with this brand new, you know, duo that he has with Anthony Davis. Hopefully Anthony Davis can, you know, be healthy. That's the main thing. That's the main thing we really want to see out of Anthony Davis. But if that can happen, Fantastic thing is coming for the Washington Wizards. I do want to move over I do kind of wanna talk about this top four in the NBA draft because obviously these are the guys that are gonna be the most impactful. They're the ones that were talked about the most throughout the entire draft. there was this sort of like big four of guys throughout the draft process that were undoubtedly gonna be drafted. one, two, three, and four. So moving on to the second pick, it was the Utah Jazz drafting Darren Peterson. So super, super, super talented point or or guard in general, somebody who was seen as sort of a a tweener guard, but most importantly somebody who was seen as the super polarizing player, right? Because you had the people who are calling him like the next big, you know, thing. And then you had people who were kind of just like his attitude is gonna be such a big problem in the in the next stage of his career. He lands with the Utah Jazz, lands in a situation where you're now part of this very, very good, very, very young core I think there was a graphic that was put out there that this entire core is under at the age of thirty. and that incor that core includes like ten different players that are all very talented. You got Keonti George obviously starting at the point guard, you got Darren Peterson at the shooting guard, Laurie Marketan as your kind of tweener three, Jaron Jackson Jr. as your four, and Walker Kessa at the five. And that doesn't even include last year's lottery picking Ace Bailey, Bryce Senteball, Kyle Filipowski. Isaiah Collier, I mean it's it's a very, very talented squad over there in Utah. Boog, you like what you're seeing with the Utah Jazz? Is this a team that could surprise some people in the West next year? Jared Shirai: I think it is a team that can surprise the people in the West. I also think they're they're kinda hinting at some little things like maybe moving on from Laurie. possibly like that because KayOhKnee: Yeah, he's the oldest. Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: Yeah, he's the he's the oldest. He doesn't really fit the timeline. Also, you could probably get good value for him because of how good he is and how big his contract is. but them getting Darren Peterson and pairing him along Ace Bailey, like I think that could be a scary future going forward for Utah. And we always talk about it, right? Danny Ainge out there, he does an amazing job of like building talent, getting the steals, and he's gonna get great if they do move on from Laurie, because like I said, he's the oldest out of all of them, even though he's is under thirty. When you're talking about like the KayOhKnee: yeah. yeah. Jared Shirai: The De'Aaron Fox is and who he could possibly move and who would want to pair alongside Wemby. like a three and D type of player. I think Laurie Markinen kind of fits that mode. if they wanted to ever get off of Laurie Markinen for some a player like De'Aaron Fox or maybe include him in a three-team trade where they can finagle something. Because I think A. The timeline shows that it's gonna be young. B, Lari does fit the mold. Like he is their superstar in this, but also he is the oldest and that's why he is that superstar. And if you can always shop him with other teams to to help not just other teams, but as an as well to help your mold of where you wanna go. Because like you said, the depth when you really look at it, the only two people that I would see being left out of this is like the Nurkic and Markinins. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: Everybody else you can go younger, you can get a like a better younger player. Like that's why the I I feel like the Jaron Jackson trade that they made was the perfect move for them 'cause he fit the timeline of the build. And now you're gonna have these two young KayOhKnee: Yeah. Jared Shirai: stars, I would say, because that's what we're expecting out of Ace Bailey and Darren Peterson. And it's gonna like I think Jazz is heading in the right direction. They should they could ruffle some feathers this this year, should they figure out their right rotation and if they do make a move as well. KayOhKnee: Yeah, I think the the prevailing thought for me, it's funny 'cause you went marketing. I actually was thinking it feels like they're really gonna move off of Walker Kessler at some point. There's so many teams that are interested in him. I know he's younger and I know he's undoubtedly a better piece for you, but to me the writing on the wall was getting Jaron Jackson Junior. You get a guy who is a little bit more of a vet, but he does a lot of the things that you kinda want out of Walker Kessler outside of just his Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: his shooting stuff, right? Because obviously Jaron Jackson is a lot better of a shooter than Walker. but he is a rim protector. He's a guy who can be you know, a deterrent at the at the at the rim. I would like to see them stick with this sort of weird lineup they have where Lari is the three and then Jaron Jackson's the four and and Kessler's the five. Money is gonna be an issue eventually. You know what I mean? Like they're eventually gonna have to pay up somebody. I agree it should be marketing, but I feel like they're they're probably gonna end up having to get rid of Walker Kessler just because his value is so high right now, you could probably get a pretty damn good haul if you were willing to part with him this year and that was your gonna be your starting lineup. Like if you had Larry, H Bailey, and Jaron Jackson Jr. as your three, four, five, and then you still had the two guards, I mean You could still definitely make some noise this year. Definitely be a team that will be competing heavily in the in the Western Conference this year. So gonna be interested to see how they handle that situation because I know that there's a lot of teams. I know the Lakers are one of those teams that've been calling up. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Lakers have already offered a contract to him, but he is restricted. So they'll have to figure that out. And if that is the case, yeah, I was like they Jared Shirai: Yeah. So it's gonna be a back and forth kinda KayOhKnee: They can match it no matter what, but if it is one of those situations where they feel like they can maybe get like a first out of the Lakers and something else, who knows? You know what I mean? Maybe they're ready to to punch that ticket this year and start competing this year. So we'll see. undoubtedly a team that has a very, very bright future. Moving on to the third pick. we're not gonna go through all the picks. I just wanna go through the ones that have like kind of mainstay main names out here. But third pick, the Memphis Grizzlies did draft Cameron Boozer. obviously the son of Carlos Boozer, a longtime, you know, Utah Jazz and Chicago Bull. out of Duke, he ends up with the Memphis Grizzlies, who are heavily rumored to be looking at moving off of John Morant, just so that they can really, really full commit to this sort of young, completely real rebuilt team, especially with John Morant. Jared Shirai: Rebuild. KayOhKnee: you know, not really having the greatest composure the last couple of years. they already sent out Jaron Jackson Jr. last year, Desmond Bain the year before that. So, Boog, looking at the situation with the Grizzlies, if they do move off out ja John Morant, I mean you're looking at a much younger, kind of interesting mix of like wing talent here, plus the the newly minted Cameron Boozer, alongside Zach Edy from last year. Thoughts, opinions, what do you like about this Grizzly Squad and the direction they're heading? Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. I mean, I think like you said, it's gonna be a very interesting, but it's gonna be one of those like true trust the process because you have to be patient with what's gonna go on. Cause Jaw leaves, it depends on what kind of name and what you get for him. like you're looking at Scottie Pippen Jr., Sedgek Coward, Jalen Wells, Cameron Boozer, Zach Eady. And then you're second, you're looking at Ty Jerome, G. G. Jackson, Santi Aldama, Isaiah Stewart. Like no names really stick out to you in this regard, but it's also like KayOhKnee: Yep. Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: It is a building process because all those guys that we've named is so new and young to the league that after I would say after their rookie contracts come through, that's when they should be melding and everything. And this could be a scary team of the future. By the last year of their rookie contracts, they they're gonna have enough time together. They're gonna have enough ex speed experience, game experience, and enough time to be cohesive with one another that I think this could be a scary. KayOhKnee: Yep. Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: Scary move. Like moving off a jaw is gonna be the biggest thing. seeing who you can get and what to shop. Maybe you get a superstar for him, which would be great. Because then you have a leader in that room because there's no true leader in this realm. You're looking at all young kids to do so. But if you can do that, then from there the the sky's the limit with this team because there's a lot of talent and there's no real like one ego player in this except for probably jaw. So KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Mm hmm. Yeah. Jared Shirai: So for me I think it could it could be a a a very I would keep this team as my my dark horse team depending on who who comes into that mold. KayOhKnee: Yeah, I'd be very interested to see what they do with the trade. I will also very I forgot to mention because we were already talking about the Grizzlies that they did also end up trading for Isaiah Stewart, who's now on this team for the Detroit Pistons. They traded three second round picks in order to get him. this was really it really just came down to a salary dump for the Detroit Pistons. They have Jalen Duran's contract coming up this year, so they obviously are gonna want to pay him. They did extend that sort of restriction to him so that Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. I saw that. KayOhKnee: Any deal that he does sign this offseason, they can match. and they're undoubtedly gonna do that now that they traded away Isaiah Stewart, who was kind of a big money contract that they didn't really need on their books. but you know, Isaiah Stewart big here. I mean, I think that's a great wrinkle. That's another guy who I feel like adds a lot to this team from both a defensive and sort of just energy standpoint. Really like what he does rebounding wise. He's probably gonna still be backing up Zach Edy, who's gonna be starting for this team, but Jared Shirai: Okay. KayOhKnee: It's a lot of good really good things to like for the Memphis Grizzlies. It's crazy to see that they kind of are at this point now, but I mean you got a lot of tradable pieces here. You know what I mean? You still got I to me, a guy like Ty Jerome now becomes expendable, a guy like Gontavus Caldwell Pope becomes obviously super expendable, and then John Moran added it into there. So we'll be will be an interesting next couple of months. I I mean the with the amount of fireworks we have seen from, you know, all the trades happening in the last couple of days. Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. KayOhKnee: I would not be surprised to see the Memphis Grizzlies among them as a team who ends up maybe I will also say the Miami Heat are another team that are very, very interested in Jaws. So that's another one that could be an interesting landing spot. If it's the package that supposedly was dropped, I don't think that'd be a smart idea, but I yeah, I could see it. and basically it was like Ja Morant for Andrew Wiggins and somebody said maybe Davion Mitchell or something. And I was thinking like, I don't know about I don't know about all that trade packages, but yeah. Anyway, moving on to the fourth pick, the Chicago Bulls. Don't worry, Book. I got this one. the Chicago Bulls, they drafted Caleb Wilson. that pairs with the second pick that they made at at pick fifteen, which was Dalen Swain out of Texas. But Caleb Wilson out of UNC, undoubtedly a player that is gonna be a floor raiser for the the Chicago Bulls and somebody that is gonna be starting for them day one. Jared Shirai: I know you do. KayOhKnee: the dream is to pair him alongside Modest Bazelis and Bryson Grabb, man, has done an un a phenomenal job for the Chicago Bulls thus far. Bringing in new head coach Tiago Splitter, having Caleb Wilson be the guy that we wanted and falling to us at this point. not doing anything too crazy with our draft picks, not doing anything with the trade scenarios and all this other stuff. I know there's still a lot of stuff being said about Josh Giddy and whether or not he's gonna stick around, but the two players that he drafted in this draft specifically, both guys that fit his sort of acronym for players that he wanted, which is he says slap, right? So it's size, length, athleticism athleticism and pfft, I forgot what the last one was. But but anyway, yeah. I mean he got two guys who obviously fit that mode, Dalen Swain, One of the things that came out after the tr after the drafting of Dalen Swain was that he was somebody that the what is his name? Sam Prestey of the Oklahoma City Thunder was targeting at pick seventeen, two picks later. That tells you everything you need to know. When Sam Preste, one of the best GMs of all time, is targeting a guy that you really, really want, or that targeting a guy that you draft, that says everything. So that means that s clearly somebody did their homework and somebody did their research to get a guy who is undoubtedly gonna be, you know, a big part of our future in the for us as the Chicago Bulls. great playmaking I like out of him. Caleb Wilson is just gonna be a guy that I'm really hoping does what everybody is hoping that he could do. You know what I mean? There's a lot of comparisons to K G to his game, so we'll see if that becomes anything but very exciting times for the Chicago Bulls. Just glad that they're on this pace of building and rebuilding and doing all that sort of stuff. With that said, I do also want to add that as part of this whole rebuild trade up move scenario, the Brooklyn Nets, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Chicago Bulls were were part of a three way deal that included the Timberwolves getting Muhammad Guye from the Chicago Bulls. and the number 28 pick or excuse me, the number 33 pick, while the Nets received number 28, and the Bulls received Nick Claxton. So this was an interesting sort of situation. Julius Randle ends up on the Nets. obviously Nick Claxton ends up with the Bulls. And the Bulls didn't have to give up anything to get the trade done. So you know, brand new starting center for the Chicago Bulls, somebody who also fits the acronym of Slap, which Eventually I'll remember what the fourth one, the P stands for, but I can't remember it right now. but anyway, you know, some interesting times for the Chicago Bulls. And on the flip side of that, because we're already talking about them anyway, the Minnesota Timberwolves, man. The Minnesota Timberwolves went into this offseason with clear li a clear list of needs. they had a lot of things that they wanted to get done, that they needed to get done. Obviously, you know, dropping out of the playoffs once again, failing at, you know, when they needed to during the playoff run. Not something that they're looking forward to doing a w again and not something that they're going to be trying to repeat again, especially when you got Anthony Edwards at his peak right now, and who knows how much longer he'll be happy staying there. They went out and made some tremendous big time moves. Obviously moving off of Julius Randle in that trade. But on top of that, they went out and found their point guard of the future in LaMelo Ball. so the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets make a trade. Lamello ball and Josh Green to the Timberwolves for Nas Reed. A twenty thirty-three unprotected first round pick, pick swaps, and multiple second rounders. they did in tandem with that also re-sign Io Dosunmu to a five year deal. I believe it was in the hundred and twenty million dollar range. So now they have this core of Anthony Edwards, Lamello Ball, Ayo Dosunmu, Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert, and you know, some other they still have Dante DiVincenzo who's still on this roster, but is it tradable piece? Book, thoughts and opinions on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Were these moves as a collective enough for them to really step into the West as true contenders? Because we've seen them falter, you know what I mean? And I I would say this year it was a little bit different because Anthony Edwards was injured. So, you know what I mean? There's there's a little bit of that thrown in there, but thoughts, opinions on the moves that the Timberwolves did. Jared Shirai: I mean for me, getting Lamella balls a great thing. this is the only thing that worries me is he's played a lot of games this last season, which is great. But KayOhKnee: Yeah. Jared Shirai: Is that a one season fluke? Is it like his brother? Where it's like, hey, he played a lot of minutes this year, and then he's gonna go sign a contract with somebody else, and this is gonna happen, that's gonna happen, and then the next year it falls out. Like last okay, if I'm I'm looking at his career stats right now. And the last time he played over seventy games, the next year he played thirty-six games. Then he played twenty-two, and then he played forty-seven, and this year he played seventy-two. So it's like KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: What are you really getting out of it? if he can be another 70 game person, by all means it's gonna help. You know, him and that, like it's gonna be a great tandem. It'll be fun to watch. I think signing the Sumu, what he brought to this game, way what he did for you guys, and when he signed here, he kind of did the same thing and excelled at it. Exactly. KayOhKnee: Yeah. An unreal playoff run, by the way. He did so good in the playoffs, yeah. Jared Shirai: Exactly. So his his extension signing was like was warranted. I think he he well deserved all that money that he got. I think he's gonna be a great piece for them. For me though, one thing that kills me is like, man, you lost Nasreed and I feel like he was such such a big piece that I would not want him like if it could get off of Gobert or whatever, you know. Especially 'cause of the timeline, 'cause Nasreed is still it he still is young, right? So KayOhKnee: Yeah, a hundred percent. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. yeah, yeah. Jared Shirai: So like it it it fits the timeline so much better for how how many years this team could possibly compete for, on top of it, I feel like if you kept Nas Reed instead of Rudy Gobert, it would entice Anthony Edwards to stay a lot longer, knowing that he'd have him for the future, on top of like they've grinded together in so long. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, nobody wants Rudy Gobert. I I I 100% agree with that. KayOhKnee: feels like that's a poison pill contract that nobody wants. That's the thing. Like nobody wants Rudy Go Bear. That's funny. Yeah. Jared Shirai: And and so for me, like it it moves the dial in a sense of health, it moves the dial in certain things. But to lose your six man and to when you really look at their bench, they don't really have a whole lot. You know they're gonna still be shopping and moving forward as they go. 'Cause Mike Conley's not getting any younger. Isaiah Evans, Bones Highland. I'm Bones I we l I like Bones. I think he just does his job. I don't know if he moves the needle as far as a championship team. Terrence Shannon is their is their backup shooting guard for small forward. Kyle Anderson we all know is pretty old. KayOhKnee: Yeah. I don't know why Dante Di Vincenzo isn't showing on the roster when he's still on the roster. Yeah, but even still he would be like listed and injured. Jared Shirai: was he injured? I haven't I have enlisted on the the trade the trade machine. KayOhKnee: That's weird. They don't have Jared Shirai: So like he he fits there. But I mean for me even like I I feel like their depth is where they're gonna they're gonna get killed. And yes, Ant was hurt through the playoffs, but I think he was partially hurt in the sense of like how many minutes and what he's asked to do. So you kinda want a depth piece in that regard. And I think Nas Reed was that guy whenever he was out there. He was playing D, he was scoring, he was shooting the ball well. team didn't miss a beat, you know, that's what they're hoping to accomplish with Desumu in this regard. But I still think they're KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: one or two bench pieces away at least from being a a full full contender because that to give up Nas Reed as your as your sixth man i it it's it's just huge for me. KayOhKnee: Yeah, yeah. I mean undoubtedly that's gonna be one of the biggest holes for them. I'm with you and I'll it's funny because I was gonna kinda give a negative take as well, but I'll I'll go the I'll go the positive route since you went the negative route for this. the positive route I think for the Timberwolves side of this at least is you know they're they're clearly looking to change things up. They've been kind of stale, you know what I mean, is the best way to put it. They brought in Julius Randle. He had that first year where he looked really, really good, and then in this second year it was kind of meh, you know what mean? He threw it off when they needed him, they really needed him to step up. I thought the size was gonna be something Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: That they needed more of, so it was good that they brought him in. You know, they had Julius Randle, they had Nas Reed, they had JD McDaniels, he had all these really tall, long guys. When they face the San Antonio Spurs and when they're gonna be facing a bunch of teams in that Western conference that are slowly building this way, you do need the speed. You do need the guard play. You do need the sort of like up and down speed. So one of the things that I do really like about what they did is they they're obviously they locked up Iodosumu. That was somebody that there was heavy rumors the the week leading up to them signing him that Iodosumu was considering a move back to Chicago because they were willing to re-sign him. Jared Shirai: Yes. KayOhKnee: New front office, all that sort of stuff. there was gonna be somebody who was gonna try to go after Iode regardless. So the fact that they went out and locked him up, fantastic. on top of that, you get Lamelo Ball, who is undoubtedly gonna be a pace pusher for this team. They needed somebody who could also could distribute the ball and They really needed scoring. That was something that they were having issues with this last year. obviously Nas Reed helped with that a lot. One of the things, though, with Nas is that he's not able to create his own shot. You know, he is a guy who's more of a spot up, three-point shooter. I mean he was able to get to his spots on the inside, but for all the things that he was great at, one of the things that Lametro Ball is definitely known for is the ability to get his own shot up. So I think this tandem is going to be something that's going to be very, very interesting to see. They're obviously going to be growing together. So if they can Lock in and that chemistry can be s become something really, really good. I mean, it could be showtime over in Minnesota. Like this is a this is a guard duel that is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, in the NBA right now, just from a pure talent standpoint. On the other side of things, the Hordets, man. We gotta talk about it because that squad now, Nas Reed and Toll, you know what I mean? I mean, just the amount. The sheer amount of picks that they got from this trade in in and of itself should be something that should be studied because I I can't even believe that they got so many picks. I know, for for Lamental Ball on top of that. Somebody who was, don't get me wrong, fantastic. Obviously, like he's an all-star type of level caliber player, whatever. but there was always rumors around him being traded, always rumors about him not being happy, all this other stuff. Now They got to re-sign Kobe White. So Kobe White is back in tow as a starting point guard. They have Khan Kanupo as a shooting guard, who obviously broke out this last year, almost won Rookie of the Year. I still stand on that he definitely should have won it, but whatever. then they got Brandon Miller at the three, Miles Bridges at the four, Hannes Steinbeck, who they did just bring in. So I'm I'm I'm assuming it's gonna be probably either Nas Reed or Musa Diabate, because both of those guys were already in the system from last year. Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: I mean it's a it's a lot of really good stuff to look forward to. I mean this team looks maybe even better than they did pre you know what I mean, La Mello trade. So book, thoughts, opinions on the Hornets and what they can do. Do you think that this is a team that could be sort of the Utah Jazz of the Eastern Conference? Jared Shirai: I think yeah, I think that that's a perfect like comp just because they are young, they have that youth, they have that firepower, they don't have that that e that true ego of a player anymore now that La Melo's gone. You know, it's gonna be a lot more team ball and everything that they're gonna probably do. and man, like you said, it's a steal. You got seven picks out of it. You got a great player in Nasreed, you know, like he fits the system in a sense of whether he starts or he comes off that bench and and brings that fire. KayOhKnee: Yeah. yeah. Yep. Jared Shirai: fire power and the things that he does and that grit. I think it also like brings a little more physicality to this team, which is kind of what they were missing. you you know you like the Lamello KayOhKnee: Yep. Jared Shirai: Cons where they they're shooters, you know, Brandon Miller, a little more athleticism than it is. And same thing with McCall my with Miles Bridges. And and for me, I think this is where the grit kind of comes in. Also you have all that draft capital to to build from to go get players. You know what I mean? Like whether you build with that with what you got and you're gonna use those picks, or it's Brooklyn say Brooklyn Nets where you're accumulating and who knows, maybe you're gonna ship them off with a package deal that we were hoping to see last year. to KayOhKnee: Yeah. yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yep. Mm-hmm. Jared Shirai: Yeah. I think this is something that Charlotte really did do. also like you said, side the re-signing of Kobe White, playing a long song side con is gonna be huge. Just because they in tandem they work super well together. And and it's like they're both young. They both shoot. Like one scores on his dribble drive, the other one's a good shooter, creates his own space, you know. Little things like that. And and moving forward, man, this is this will be a very interesting this is a great blueprint. to start with. Now to see where they grow from is where I'm really interested to see like what direction they're gonna take. Because I think on the on the big side, like the front court side of things is great. I think the backcourt needs to get me either A get a little bit bigger or get a little bit more physical. And these are where that's in my opinion for me. I know it's a little redundant to have like I would go get Marcus Mart Luke Connard from the Lakers. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Stop trying to get all people to get people from the Lakers. Nobody wants to trade with them. Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: Hey, but no, but do you see with Marcus Smart with the revival of his career and how old he is, like I think he can come in and mentor Kobe White rather than anything else. So I and like like I said, his defense, he was defensive player of the year for a reason, you know, all that little things he teaches. Him and Nas Reed on the court together, I think would be monsters in a sense of like teaching the grit of the defensive side, which is really what this team is missing as well. KayOhKnee: No yeah, yeah. I agree with that. Yeah. Yeah, I mean I don't disagree with that, 'cause they definitely I mean, there's they're definitely gonna struggle from that standpoint. I'd be also interested to see if they do decide to move off of Miles Bridges. That's something that could definitely be something that would be very, very interesting for them to do. I also am not super sold on that center rotation, but Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: If it ends up being like a smaller lineup where they throw out Nas Reed as the five and that ends up being the group, I actually think that could be really interesting, especially with the way that the Charlotte Hornets have been playing. I mean, they were one of the the best offenses in all of the NBA last year. So one of those things where I feel like if you're gonna go all in on that side anyway, might as well just go all all in. You know what I mean? Like throw everything you have, from a shooting standpoint, on that side of the ball. But that could be something that could be really, really interesting to see. All things Disappointing too. This the Charlotte Hornet squad. I mean, they're much improved. I think that they have a very bright future, especially with all those draft picks that they have now. if anything, I don't think the ceiling I don't think the floor dropped out at all from this Lomelo ball trade. If anything, it it's just the same, and then they might have an even higher ceiling now that they have all of that capital. So going to be Jared Shirai: Do you think chasing a player like Derek White to add to this roster would be some I I I feel like that like you how you're saying like we should they should go get somebody like that? KayOhKnee: hundred percent. Yeah, yeah. It's f it's funny though because that was something that was heavily rumored when LaMelo was still on the team. So now I'm not as certain that they have the capital to go get him anymore because Yeah, I mean pick yeah. But the Celtics don't want pick, Celtics want win now pieces. So that's why I said like Yeah. That's why it's funny because I was like, I would have loved that when they had Jared Shirai: I mean they got picks now. Mil Miles Bridges and Picks. That's true. Miles Burgess, you can have Take KayOhKnee: There was a rumor r right before it was like Lomello basically for Derek White and, you know, change or whatever. So if that was the case, one hundred percent that would have been the move. But yeah, now you know, the the the the hornets are a little less attractive unless you really want Miles Bridges. Jared Shirai: Nello. KayOhKnee: And that's it. I mean I don't even looking at the rest and Grant Williams if you want him back. Yeah. Jared Shirai: Yeah. I mean, what if my MPJ went there? KayOhKnee: Yeah, that that could be another I was like even though now I feel like they have a weird tandem that they're trying to build around with Julius Randle and him over there in the in Brooklyn. So that's a Yeah. I I truly Jared Shirai: Yeah. That's a such a weird that's such a weird gonna be like spread out spread on the floor. Good de good defensive side of things, maybe. Because bodies. KayOhKnee: Thank you. Thank you to the Nets for giving us Claxton for free, basically. But that I don't I literally don't even understand what that move was for. Like it I it didn't make any sense to me. Now you're I guess maybe you really wanted to st start somebody else at Santa I don't know. That was a that was a really weird trade for them. Yeah. And Jared Shirai: No, basically, yeah, that's what it was. There's there's no identity for them right now. Is when you really think about like how to put it. KayOhKnee: I do want to shout out some of these other teams throughout the draft process that did end up landing some really, really good players. Shout out to the Sacramento Kings. I think they got one of the best point guards in this entire draft. Darius Acuff Jr. was somebody that I was eyeballing from Chicago Bulls standpoint. When they were talking about us trading up, that was the guy that I was really hoping to grab. Unfortunate that he lands in Sacramento because that organization is a dumpster fire, but you know, cool. also shout out to Adai Mara. The Thunder now have their new Jared Shirai: Mm-hmm. KayOhKnee: You know what I mean? Future center in case they can they can't figure out something with Isaiah Hartenstein for the foreseeable future. And then Adai Mara obviously being seven three is gonna be crazy to see. You know what I mean? Because now you're gonna have this crazy chit Adai Mara lineup, which is gonna be ridiculous on the court. and something that'll be really, really fun to watch. The San Antonio Spurs, I think, ended up with one of the biggest steals of the first round in getting Jaden acquaintance. all the way at pick 20. how, I don't know. He was seen as one of the top centers in this draft. Injuries were an injury in were a concern for him, but I think the pairing of him and Victor Webanyama at the rim is going to be something scary because he is one of the best defensive centers in this draft. So that paired with the fact that he is a lob threat at any which way you want to look at it. That's a perfect pairing for what the San Antonio Spurs have been building the last couple of years. an absolute steal for them. Shout out to the Lakers getting Cameron Carr later in the draft after a trade with the New York Knicks. I think that's an interesting guard for them to add to this rotation. somebody who was seen as sort of like a Zach Levine light, you know what I mean? A really athletic scoring kind of guard. So yeah, I mean, there were some really, really good snags, especially within the first round. Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: There were a plethora of trades that happened, which we're not even gonna talk about because there was way too many of them to talk about and there was all these first first round, second round dra yeah, I think now that has become the new currency. So people are really, really like trying to like, you know, find players that they wanna grab and it's now it's pick swaps and it's all this other stuff. So Jared Shirai: There was a so Benny, which is crazy. Yeah. This is what we were hoping for last year, remember? KayOhKnee: Yeah, yeah. More fireworks last year and now we got a whole bunch this year. so shout out to the the new players who were drafted into the NBA. But before we bounce on out of here, I do want to talk about one last thing because this is undoubtedly gonna be the conversation for the next week or so about whether or not this ends up happening. Jalen Brown. Undoubtedly this situation has become sort of hostile. I mean, there was a video that came out of Jalen Brown talking about Jared Shirai: Yes sir. KayOhKnee: the fans that want him gone and all this sort of stuff. And he's basically saying like those saying that they want me gone are creating a monster. And I'm just like, I don't disagree with him because he's right. I mean, for what he did for the Celtics while Tatum was, you know, dealing with injuries and all that sort of stuff, I mean, undoubtedly a superstar in the NBA. So as they're continuing to remain active in trade talks, because apparently this is becomes a situation that is not going to be mended. Boog, is there a place you'd like to see Jalen Brown land? I'll I'll throw out some of the teams that have been interested. Obviously the Heater the Heat are interested, but gonna be a lot to finango with that one. And do the Celtics not too much a do the Celtics really want Andrew Wiggins as the guy to pair with Jason Tatum. Probably not gonna happen. The New Orleans Pelicans, seen as a landing spot just because they do have an interesting mix of Jared Shirai: You could lose a lot of players, bro. KayOhKnee: Talent slash, you know, assets. and then the Atlanta Hawks. The top three destinations that or excuse me, the Atlanta Hawks and then the San Antonio Spurs. Four destinations I'll throw out to you. So thoughts, opinions, what would you like to see him land? Jared Shirai: I mean if they're gonna do a D'Aaron Fox And Jalen Brown trade, by all means, to get off of KayOhKnee: It's like De'Aaron Fox in all your future picks. Jared Shirai: No, yeah, for real though. I mean that I as I'm looking 'cause I'm like as you were talking about it, I was kinda just looking through like who can offer what. did they even talk about like who they're possibly looking to move off from? Like are the Pelicans moving off of Zion? Zion going there? That's the that's the name that's floating around. Okay, that's what I figured it would be 'cause he's got the biggest contract. 'cause KayOhKnee: That is that has been the name that's been floated. Yeah. Jared Shirai: Jalen Brown's got a fifty-seven million dollar contract, Zion's got a forty-two, you know? So it's like him and Herb Jones. KayOhKnee: I think the the the general consensus has been that no matter what team he ends up trading, it's gonna be for pieces that are for win now. They're gonna be they're still trying to compete with Jason Tatum on this roster. It's just a matter of what they can get out of Jalen Brown that will make them so they can still compete. So yeah, that Jared Shirai: You said Heat, Pelicans, Spurs, and who was the fourth team? Atlanta, the Hawks. So let's look at the Hawks really quick. It's just tough because even if he does go to Atlanta, you kinda like gut them. You know what I mean? You gut them. Cause what you probably want, what Jalen Jalen Johnson Johnson and Dyson Daniels, probably. Like that's the two pla names you would take, right? When you really think about it. KayOhKnee: Atlanta. Yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. Jared Shirai: I don't I I I mean I don't think they take Kuminga after the year Kuminga had. KayOhKnee: I I feel like Definitely not coming up. I could see them I could see them getting like Jalen Johnson. Jalen Johnson and like Reese Hoshea. You what I mean? Because Risa Shea obviously disappointed this last year, so that could be like an interesting name grab if they were really, really looking at doing some something different with this team. I think they're already at the point where they're gonna be re signing CJ McCollum. So CJ McCollum's gonna be on this roster. I think they're actually now I'm thinking about it. I think he already got extended, if I'm not mistaken. Hold on, I gotta Jared Shirai: O niego komu. Yeah. Yeah. I don't have McCullum yet on the trade thing, so maybe he's still waiting? I don't know. KayOhKnee: No, he got extended. Yeah. So she yeah, yeah. Jared Shirai: you did it again explain? Okay, good, good. yeah, so I mean even a di with the extension and whatnot. But I mean if if they're if they're really looking win now for me, the only place that I would say makes sense is The Spurs, if the Spurs are willing to give up their future. And I wouldn't mind seeing Zion in Boston. I think that would be a very interesting pairing there. Because when you really look at it, right, they don't really have a a dominant big, I guess you would say. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Jared Shirai: Right, even their centers are kinda like, yeah, Ivocevovic, Queda and Garza. But then you have you would have Zion at the four, and then you can move the Tatum to the three, and then everybody kinda pushes up one. You can go pay Peyton Pitchard and Derek White one two. Like I think that would be like a a good starting five. And you know how this Celtics team has shown, like their bench players like really play their roles really well. KayOhKnee: Yeah. Yeah. Jared Shirai: But I think of all the teams that moves, it would probably be the Pelicans. would I wanna see that? No, I think I'd wanna see him go to the Spurs, but like you said, the amount that you'd have to give up for him. And who knows? I if I'm Boston, I don't want DeAron Fox. If I'm Boston, I don't want DeAron Fox. I already got Pritchard and White. KayOhKnee: Yeah Yeah. That's that's why if I if I had to pick like a spot that I'd I personally would really want him to go to, it's probably the Atlanta Hawks. Like I I'd be curious to see what they'd have to give up in that trade scenario because obviously you wouldn't want to see them have to gut everything, you know what I mean, just to make it happen. but I do think that ultimately it's gonna end up costing them one of Jalen Johnson or Dyson Daniels. Jared Shirai: Mm. I would like them to give like if I'm if I'm Boston and I'm kinda being greedy 'cause I wanna win now, I'd want Jalen Johnson and Okongwo. 'Cause I'd want a center. KayOhKnee: Yeah. See in that in in in that case I would say no as a you know I mean as the Hawks. Yeah. Part of it part of it I feel like though for them is that they really don't have a leg up as far as like they they don't have the they don't have the the what am I trying to say here? The leverage in this scenario because Jalen Brown is obviously unhappy. Jared Shirai: Yeah. Because of the youth that you're giving up. You're giving twenty four and twenty five year old. but if you're taking Risay then yes. Yeah. KayOhKnee: Most teams are gonna be trying to lowball you for Jalen Brown at this point. And it's kinda nobody's fault but their own because they've made that relationship very very outspoken. They floated his name heavily in the Giannis Anteno trade scenarios. They didn't really go out of their way to dispel those rumors. Like to me, if it's if it's like a scenario where you're like, Okay, we're gonna offer you or this is our package and that kind of stuff, I would rather take Reese Hashe, Alexander Walker Nikkel Alexander Walker and Dyson Daniels then take on De'Aaron Fox. You know what I mean? Like if I if I had to choose between the best of the worst, that would be like a scenario that I could see them doing. And it's funny because even when you look at it from that standpoint, I mean if any of those guys ends up hitting or doing anything outside of what they've done for the last couple of years, that's a really great core you just built now. I mean Jared Shirai: Yeah, yeah. KayOhKnee: Mikhail Alexander Walker, one of the better defensive, you know, wings out there right now. You got Reese Sachet, who's still young and untapped, so you don't even really know his full potential. Maybe a change of senior year works out for him. And then Dyson Daniels, you get a point, you get a defensive mind and point guard who can distribute the ball for Derek White and Jason Tatum. Like to me, that's that's a win win win scenario. It's not quite Jalen Brown on your team, win win win scenario, but it's one of those situations where if it gets Jared Shirai: Shooting guards. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But you add depth. KayOhKnee: If it gets hostile, that to me is a is a much better scenario than just bringing on Darren Fox. So we'll see. The the it's still out there. Right now it's it's actively working. Six teams are supposedly out there with with offers for Boston right now. We'll see what happens in the next couple of hours and you know, who knows? Maybe we'll be right back here talking about those trades when it does happen. But Jared Shirai: Yeah. KayOhKnee: Anyway, I think that'll do it for this episode after the buzzer. Had a lot of news to catch up on. We know it's been a minute since we've been on here, but Book, you have anything else you want to say to the beautiful people at home? Jared Shirai: I would say we be back just because you know the the the way this the news has been dropping in the last week or so, I mean it's it's it's getting heavy. So we'll see you guys soon. KayOhKnee: Yeah. yeah. I saw like Jalen Brown, John Morant, I was like Josh Giddy possibly. I mean there's still a lot of names that are being floated around out there. LeBron, yeah, exactly. What the Warriors Do, like Yeah, s that's another one yeah, right. Ooh. Gonna be a lot of interesting moves. Yeah, One hundred percent. Jared Shirai: you gotta see where LeBron goes. You gotta see where maybe, maybe even like in Embiid, what the Sixers do. That's what I wanna know. The Sixers. I wanna know what the Sixers are gonna do. So we be back for sure. We'll be back for sure. KayOhKnee: We'll just let the news collect up a little bit before we come back. But anyway, with that said, thank you for joining us on this very special episode of After the Buzzer. We'll catch you in a little bit. So, as always, it's been a pleasure. It's been a joy from all of us here at Point Soy. Good Vives Hello! Bang Bang. Jared Shirai: Yeah, I see a bit.
