- 0:30Speaker 4: We're going to talk about health habits for a better life.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Don't you want a better life? Billy?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Isn't that kind of what we always talk about?
- 0:40Speaker 3: It kind of is? Yeah, you know that this is
- 0:42Speaker 3: just a good overview of some good physical health habits
- 0:46Speaker 3: that can really improve your daily life.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Okay, let's do it all righty.
- 0:51Speaker 3: The first one is to move your body daily. And
- 0:54Speaker 3: we have talked, like you said, a lot about this.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It doesn't have to be doing two hours words of
- 1:00Speaker 3: super intense workout. This can be small tasks like taking
- 1:04Speaker 3: a walk, doing some physical chores, stretching your body, or
- 1:08Speaker 3: of course a more formal workout.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Can it be like like when I go to Costco
- 1:14Speaker 4: the one down here on Third West is so huge
- 1:18Speaker 4: that I'm walking all over looking for stuff and by
- 1:20Speaker 4: the time i'm done, I'm going that's it.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm done. I'm done.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, you're getting your steps in for the day
- 1:28Speaker 3: doing that, for sure.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Okay, good, all right? What's next?
- 1:33Speaker 3: Perfect? Next is to eat nutritious.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Fruit, which you can find costco can.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:41Speaker 3: So we're killing two birds with one stone here for sure.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:47Speaker 3: So, trying to highlight foods in your diet such as
- 1:50Speaker 3: fruits and vegetables, whole grain protein, and of course lots
- 1:55Speaker 3: and lots of water. You can still eat your favorite pasta,
- 2:00Speaker 3: try add a side of veggies to kind of round
- 2:02Speaker 3: out that meal.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Thank you, I need permission for pasta is allowed?
- 2:10Speaker 4: Yes, we have a little book of permission slips that.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Okay, So, so nutritious food next, m And.
- 2:23Speaker 3: This one kind of tacks right back onto that one.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Eating enough protein to support building muscle and keeping your
- 2:30Speaker 3: body strong. As we age, especially we tend to eat
- 2:34Speaker 3: a little bit less protein, and we want to aim
- 2:37Speaker 3: for one point two to two point five grams per
- 2:42Speaker 3: kilogram of body weight or one gram about per pound
- 2:47Speaker 3: of body weight.
- 2:48Speaker 1: That's why I have because that's the way to do it.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, once again, two birds, one stone, exactly.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I have a t bone steak with a with a
- 2:59Speaker 4: with a big scoop of noodles.
- 3:01Speaker 1: On scoop of noodles.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Scoop of noodles.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It's the bridge the new food trends. Scoop of noodles.
- 3:12Speaker 3: The next step, of course, prioritizing our sleeping for seven
- 3:19Speaker 3: to nine hours each night. And if we're not able
- 3:23Speaker 3: to get that sleep at night, I am going to
- 3:26Speaker 3: hand out permission slips once again for a nap.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Wait a minute, I can have pasta and a nap.
- 3:33Speaker 3: You can. Well, I know I'm making the good list today.
- 3:37Speaker 4: It's what you do, Gina. And look at how healthy
- 3:40Speaker 4: you are.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Perfectly healthy, all right, So give us.
- 3:47Speaker 3: One more thing, Elena, one more thing, avoid or limit
- 3:52Speaker 3: use of alcohol and drugs. And I know you're gonna
- 3:55Speaker 3: have some feelings about this one. And that's okay.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It is it is.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I mean, you're seeing more and more that they're saying,
- 4:05Speaker 4: you know, just no alcohol is really good for you.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Just not you know, used to say, well a glass
- 4:12Speaker 4: of wine a day, they're saying, yeah, probably not if
- 4:15Speaker 4: if if you can just not do it at all.
- 4:19Speaker 1: It doesn't say I know that's you don't have to avoid,
- 4:23Speaker 1: you can just avoid or limit. You can just limit
- 4:26Speaker 1: if you want.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't have to absolutely go cold turkey. However,
- 4:31Speaker 3: if you would like to once again, you definitely can
- 4:34Speaker 3: go that route.
- 4:35Speaker 4: I'm just going to read you a story that I
- 4:37Speaker 4: skipped over today, Gina. More and more women need liver transplants,
- 4:41Speaker 4: and it's because of alcohol abuse, but.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Not positive easy moderation, not passive abuse for sure.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I've I've actually been cutting back on my
- 4:54Speaker 4: alcohol intake and and I do feel better for doing it.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Good, good for you.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I love that moderation in all things, absolutely so.
- 5:04Speaker 2: So that's that's there's kind of a short list today.
- 5:06Speaker 3: But is a short one today.
- 5:09Speaker 2: A very pointed one, I think.
- 5:11Speaker 5: And I like what you said at the beginning, Elena,
- 5:14Speaker 5: about how so maybe you already do do daily exercise,
- 5:18Speaker 5: maybe add just a little bit more to it, like
- 5:21Speaker 5: like you know, yeah, you exercise every day, but do you.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Stretch in the morning. Just adding a little bit, doesn't it.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You don't have to add a lot.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Absolutely, this doesn't have to be zero to one hundred.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Just aim for that one percent better.
- 5:35Speaker 2: That's okay.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Next time I go to Costco and then I'm going
- 5:38Speaker 4: to go to the car wash and vacuum ount my car.
- 5:40Speaker 1: That's a little extra.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Oh yeah, vacuuming, little extra. That'll do it.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Kind of stretching while I vacuum.
- 5:46Speaker 1: There you go.
- 5:47Speaker 2: All right, Elena, absolutely, if you want to find out
- 5:49Speaker 2: more about all of this stuff, you.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Can learn more about this as well as Nightingale's amazing
- 5:55Speaker 3: programs by visiting Nightingale dot edu.
- 5:58Speaker 2: All Right, thank you, thank you.
