- 2:47those, and it helps the algorithm like, push us to other
- 2:50people who might like us. Yeah, helps them.
- 2:52It helps our egos and yeah, makes me feel good.
- 2:55I have very low self-esteem, guys.
- 2:58Yeah, we need You come on, Travis is Travis and Talia are
- 3:03doing all they can to make me feel good about myself.
- 3:05But we have two cats and everybody knows cats are
- 3:07assholes cats. Put you down.
- 3:09Yeah. They're like you piece of shit
- 3:11because they're just hoping that like the if they nag me enough,
- 3:15I will feed them. They are so wrong.
- 3:17What they're really doing is just bringing your spear.
- 3:20Yeah. And then I just stay in bed
- 3:21longer, depression. Yeah, this is all true.
- 3:27I can verify all the cats are bullies.
- 3:29He's okay. So yeah, we're talking about
- 3:34Kerry today and not one of the many I think that there are many
- 3:37remakes of this. There's a, is it 90s or early
- 3:412000s, early 2000s, I think. And then there was the 2010's
- 3:462010, that's crazy. Chloe, no different.
- 3:51Chloë Grace Moretz. Yeah, that's the one.
- 3:57I only watched that one before we This one yesterday.
- 4:01So this was the first watch. I think for us both.
- 4:04Right, I've definitely watched part of it.
- 4:08I think everybody's seen scenes at least but this is our first
- 4:11full, watch his eye for shirt like I've for sure seen the same
- 4:15some of the scenes of her and her mom where she's like being
- 4:17locked in the closet. Yeah.
- 4:19And obviously everybody seen the ending scene.
- 4:22Hmm. Yeah.
- 4:24I would. Yeah.
- 4:25First time definitely like uninterrupted watching it all
- 4:28the way through. Yeah.
- 4:29So Yeah, we're talking about the original today.
- 4:32Yes. And 1976 very shortly after the
- 4:34book came out. Yeah.
- 4:35And we'll talk about some of that here in the next little
- 4:38bit. Okay?
- 4:40But before we do that, I still have poles.
- 4:43So if you were like those cool patrons that we talked about
- 4:48earlier, you can go in there and vote for our episodes that we're
- 4:52going to cover and prom. And I was our movie.
- 4:55That was voted for this month. So we did a poll for that one.
- 5:00And I know you're winging this but the syntax was all over the
- 5:03place. So that's okay.
- 5:05You guys are getting like real Travis right here.
- 5:08This is genuine suede. Already been recording for an
- 5:11hour or so and yeah that's right.
- 5:14Yeah I'm like doing that of the demon type dialog right here.
- 5:17Yeah I'll hold yours if you hold mine.
- 5:20Yeah. After we eat a bowl of fuck.
- 5:23Yeah. Okay.
- 5:26Let me try that again. We got to pull results for last
- 5:30week's episode, which is on prom night, which was voted by our
- 5:32patrons, who are awesome. So that's why I specifically our
- 5:38budget level patrons. Yes, our budget patrons did
- 5:41that? Yeah.
- 5:42So the poll was, how do you find a prom date?
- 5:46So over on Instagram, 43% with just ask the current partner.
- 5:52Okay, okay, that makes sense. Yeah, that's reasonable 14.
- 5:55In percent which use their ex and would not take no as an
- 5:59answer, okay. Okay.
- 6:01Our Wendy's 14% would hitchhike, you know our what was her name
- 6:07Jude. Jude are Jude's and so ex mmm
- 6:11Seymour's. Well, he didn't hitchhike.
- 6:14He picked up a hitchhiker. Yeah but still technically she
- 6:17wasn't even really hitchhiking. He participated in the act of
- 6:20hitchhiking and your solos or you know, going into a U-Haul.
- 6:25Yeah. 29% shows that it's a shame that we did our to be or
- 6:30not to be last weekend. Because we could have also added
- 6:33a lip sync. Oh my goodness, five of your
- 6:36closest friends and they're my can't talk about that anymore.
- 6:45L. So we think we've said, so much
- 6:47of our weekend talking about that scene.
- 6:49Okay, over on Twitter 0% with go.
- 6:53With our current partner 0% would take their eggs At
- 6:55fourteen percent would hitchhike and 86% go solo in a U-Haul.
- 6:59That's right. Guess widows living up to the
- 7:02stereotypes. You know what, y'all not so
- 7:05anymore. We're not all writing alone in
- 7:07the U-Haul by ourselves. We've got like a nice little
- 7:09group together, going in the U-Haul.
- 7:12So yeah, upgrade the U-Haul extra large.
- 7:16There are some disco balls on back there now.
- 7:17Is like another golf cart, you know.
- 7:21Yeah, yeah. Well, we'll ride into that.
- 7:23Will make an entrance. I guess everybody come down the
- 7:26ramps with a U-Haul synchronized.
- 7:28Yep, one by one. Can we go?
- 7:30That's that's the opposite of what synchronize means.
- 7:32But okay, I gotta get out of here.
- 7:37Okay, obviously I'm in because that was my story.
- 7:40That's how I did my prom. Jesse, what would you do?
- 7:45Junior, and senior, I went with my boyfriend at the time, okay?
- 7:49So current partner. All right, there we go.
- 7:53Okay enough of all that. Tough.
- 7:56Let's talk about our movie for this week Carrie, okay?
- 8:00So, Kari released the third of November 1976, okay, we watched
- 8:05it on Amazon Prime because like we got, yeah, we made the
- 8:09mistake of assuming that we actually had this on DVD, went
- 8:12over to the little shelf over there.
- 8:14And boy we couldn't be Mendel effect ourselves.
- 8:18Yeah, didn't just didn't happen. So we had to rent it.
- 8:22It's okay. It was what the four dollars.
- 8:24Yeah, it was. Yeah.
- 8:25Yeah, but as of today May 14th 2023, you can stream it.
- 8:31If you have a subscription to fubo TV show time or if you have
- 8:36DirecTV but if you want to ruin it like we did you can do that
- 8:40on Apple. Amazon Voodoo Red Box all for
- 8:43$3.99. Here's the thing with Amazon.
- 8:48You're fine about five different versions, which is weird. 1976
- 8:52will be the last two versions. One of them does not have a
- 8:55rental option. Only a do you want to upgrade to
- 8:58Showtime option? You have to go to the other one,
- 9:01which will give you a rental option.
- 9:03They're both SD there's literally no distinction between
- 9:08them, besides which buttons you get, when you select the movie,
- 9:11the barrier for entry of this movie, on Amazon.
- 9:14You'd work for I, yeah, I don't know why they don't want people
- 9:17watching. This I'm don't, it's especially
- 9:19frustrating because we were willing to pay money for it.
- 9:22Yeah, again, thank you to our patrons but like, you know, it's
- 9:28just, you know, I get it. If it was free, maybe make me
- 9:31jump through some hoops, it's still kind of fucked up because
- 9:33I pay, you know, a significant amount of money per year for
- 9:37Prime mostly for the shipping. But you know, occasional
- 9:41streaming perks. Yeah.
- 9:43I mean no use it when you can. Yeah, you can watch the other
- 9:46versions on the, I think that they The 2010 or 2013 or
- 9:50wherever whenever it was, it was definitely 2012 or later because
- 9:54we watched it together. Yeah, we watched it in theaters.
- 9:56Yeah, okay, yeah. I should, we watch it in
- 10:00theaters together, obviously, we've watched plenty of movies
- 10:02together, that yeah, came out before we were together, but
- 10:05yeah, we saw it in theaters together.
- 10:07Okay, so this was written by Stephen King who did the novel
- 10:13and it was adapted into a screenplay by warrants.
- 10:17Owen, okay, directed by Brian De Palma, hmm.
- 10:22With Music by P known during ratio, danasia Grigio.
- 10:30I think I fucked up with that. I can't tell if I wrote an art
- 10:34or in, I got very it's got a nice curve to it.
- 10:38That is confusing mr. Me being confused by my hand
- 10:45either way, Pinot Pinot. It special effects makeup.
- 10:49I say that every weekend Pino did it.
- 10:52Yeah, yeah, okay. Greg our did the special effects
- 10:58for this? Okay.
- 10:59All right, the cast, we have Sissy Spacek, who plays Carrie
- 11:03White Piper Laurie, please Margaret White William Katt
- 11:07plays Tommy Ross Nancy Allen plays, Chris hargensen, Amy
- 11:12Irving Place, Sue Snell, John Travolta, a plays.
- 11:17Billy no longer the power of Scientology.
- 11:20Yes, yes. PJ Souls total and Betty Buckley
- 11:25plays Miss Collins. Okay.
- 11:27And I'm not, I'm not making a joke about the scientology's.
- 11:30I mean, I kind of am of, Scientology is a joke.
- 11:33Yeah. It's also very harmful cult.
- 11:35But when we watched Devil's, rain, Devil's rain on last drive
- 11:40and last weekend, Joe are two weekends ago.
- 11:43Whenever that was one of John Travolta's, first film roles.
- 11:47I was talking to another actress and he was feeling really
- 11:50discouraged and wondering if his acting career was always going
- 11:53to be like this. And she hands him a book by 1 L,
- 11:57Ron Hubbard. Yeah, she's rest is history.
- 12:03You know what though? I mean look at him afterwards.
- 12:08He actually kind of got successful afterwards.
- 12:12I mean, not crediting Scientology for that but maybe
- 12:14it changed. And I mean, it really could be
- 12:16due to Scientology. I mean they have power.
- 12:18Yeah and they have influence. There's a lot of scientologists
- 12:21in Hollywood definitely and they all seem to be very successful.
- 12:24Yeah, I really want to watch that documentary by What is her
- 12:31name? We are Amy.
- 12:32Ya Leah Remini. Rooney has re me.
- 12:36I don't know. I know you're talking about
- 12:38though. Yeah raymie.
- 12:40Yeah, we'll see him. Yeah, I want to watch that
- 12:44because she's so she's I gotta say pretty intense about it.
- 12:49I didn't think John Travolta's acting was super strong in this
- 12:51movie. Just personally, I'm like damn,
- 12:55this guy went on to be a fucking a lesser have that happened.
- 12:58Maybe you got better, I don't know.
- 12:59But really the only movie that I've watched him and where I
- 13:03haven't the whole time to like, that's John, Travolta is Pulp
- 13:05Fiction. And even then I'm kind of like
- 13:07strong Travolta. When did Greece come out?
- 13:09That was his breakthrough, right?
- 13:11I don't know, I don't know. It's got to be around this time.
- 13:13I would imagine that they were all fucking 30 years old.
- 13:15So how old is he? I don't know.
- 13:19Another thing about this, that I think is interesting that I want
- 13:22to point out that a age of some of these people Sissy Spacek was
- 13:26in her late 20s. She was only two years younger
- 13:29than mrs. Collins.
- 13:32I can put, I can believe that. That's crazy.
- 13:34She looks young. She looks like an actual like
- 13:37high schooler to. Yeah, which is crazy.
- 13:39I think part of it is that they put little least amount of
- 13:42makeup they can put on her without her being washed out on
- 13:45screen. Yeah, but I mean, even at the
- 13:46prom whenever she's so like all made up, she still look super
- 13:50young. Yeah.
- 13:51Now she definitely does. Yeah.
- 13:53Okay, Jessie budget. Her Buck said.
- 13:55I feel like this is not going to say it's like super high budget
- 13:59but it's not nothing. Yeah.
- 14:01So Either low budget or hi bug Ted.
- 14:07No in between I mean that's a pretty yeah, that's pretty much.
- 14:12It was me. Okay, this is fucked up.
- 14:15Okay, this. So originally whenever they were
- 14:18getting this thing going they had a budget of 1.6 million.
- 14:22Oh wow. But they ended up upping it to
- 14:251.8. So yeah. 1.8 million just to
- 14:29like make this on that. Hmm.
- 14:32Yeah. Opening Box office.
- 14:34So I don't have like the opening weekend but by January 1978 it
- 14:39had grossed. 14.5 million. Okay.
- 14:42And then at the end of its run it made 33.8.
- 14:45Okay. So did everyone?
- 14:46Yeah. It was a success.
- 14:48Yeah. And them.
- 14:49Some lung house numbers. Yeah.
- 14:51Really. They probably made their model
- 14:54off of like let's just do like Carrie.
- 14:57Okay. IMDb score of 7.4.
- 15:00Okay, which is very high for this show.
- 15:03Yes. All right, you got three movies
- 15:07and let me know real theme here because I think around this
- 15:11time, I was reading that horror was kind of exploding around
- 15:15this time, but still at the same time you don't really have like
- 15:18a whole. Yeah, a lot of stuff to choose
- 15:22from until you get into like the 80s.
- 15:23So the first movie that shows the town that dreaded Sundown.
- 15:27Oh okay, yeah, that's a fucking intense one.
- 15:30It's a weird one. Have you ever have?
- 15:33We watched I don't know if we watch the original passage the
- 15:36Remake, right? We watch the Remake and then
- 15:39I've had the original playing, I was going to say, I know I've
- 15:42seen bits and pieces of the original because like it'll be
- 15:44on, you know, one of those like it's on Pluto.
- 15:47Yeah. I was gonna say it's either on
- 15:48Pluto or I feel like they've had it on shuttered TV.
- 15:51Yeah. So that came out.
- 15:53Christmas Eve. 1976 fun for the whole family.
- 15:57Yeah, I had a budget of 400,000 and a worldwide gross of five
- 16:02million. IMDb score of six out of ten.
- 16:05Okay, that's a weird movie that it's one of those movies.
- 16:08You know, some of these movies. In this time, they still have
- 16:12that like old fill to it like it feels like it could have been in
- 16:16the 60s or maybe even 50s. Yeah, no, that one definitely
- 16:20feels video. Phil's old as fuck.
- 16:23Yeah. But you know some people I could
- 16:26that I thought it was okay, from what I've seen.
- 16:30All right, moving on. Next up, we have Of Hooper's
- 16:34follow-up to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 16:37It's a movie called eaten alive. No, I have seen bits and pieces
- 16:43of this on shutter and this is one that I think would be a fun
- 16:46watch. Okay.
- 16:47And I can kind of paint the picture for you here, what a
- 16:52surprise whenever we watch it. Okay.
- 16:53Well, either way, I'm going to talk about a little bit.
- 16:57It's Robert, Englund is in this. Okay, so a very young, Robert
- 17:01Englund and The guy just think of the uncle grandpa dad.
- 17:08Whatever from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 17:11Okay. And it's him running around with
- 17:13like a scythe instead down in the bayou.
- 17:16I think around swamp. Okay and yeah it seems
- 17:20interesting from what I have seen but that came out October.
- 17:25I don't have an actual date. So question marks 1976 just
- 17:28sometime in October. Okay, budget of 520,000, no
- 17:33worldwide. Rose but has an IMDb score of
- 17:35five point five. Okay, I'm interested to see that
- 17:38because Tobe Hooper's pretty fucking good.
- 17:41Yeah, you're definitely a little Tobe Hooper Fanboy.
- 17:45I like some of the stuff I'm not like full Texas, chainsaw and
- 17:50fun house. That's about it to movies.
- 17:53I guess if you can no, no wait. Did he do body bags?
- 17:58He did a segment he did. Yeah, he did the segment body
- 18:01bags. Okay, so yeah.
- 18:02I like this stuff. Okay, I'm glad we settled that.
- 18:07Yeah. Okay, the final movie is the
- 18:09omen.oh, it's all for you Damien.
- 18:13Yeah, that was a big movie at the time too.
- 18:16So that came out, June 25th, 1976 budget of 2.8 million and a
- 18:22worldwide, gross of 60 point. Nine million, IMDb score of
- 18:26seven point five. Okay, guess what?
- 18:28I've never watched it. I don't think you have either
- 18:31have you. Hmm.
- 18:32No, no. I haven't seen that one.
- 18:34Will have to watch it sometimes. Yes, absolutely looks
- 18:36interesting. I've I've heard it described by
- 18:40Joe flyover. State of fear as like Final
- 18:43Destination because it basically like things just happen, he is
- 18:48able to manipulate the environment.
- 18:50It's just like tragedies that are happening.
- 18:52Okay. So on theme with Carrie, but all
- 18:55I can think of when I think of them is that Christmas episode
- 18:58of American Dad where Jeff That and adopts the baby.
- 19:01Yeah. And at the same time Christ.
- 19:03Yeah okay and Haley. Just all right, tag lines.
- 19:13So this is why you're pulling out the phone.
- 19:16Yep. All right because this is way
- 19:18too many to write but I did write down the one that's on the
- 19:21poster and guess what? We got a twofer probably.
- 19:25So there's one at the top and then another at the bottom.
- 19:28So at the top, every Needs. If you've got a taste for Terror
- 19:32dot dot dot, take Carrie to the prom and below.
- 19:37That it says, if only they knew she had the power.
- 19:41Okay, I like the top one. Yeah, I like that, that's really
- 19:45good. Although, like, you know, if
- 19:47you're nice to her, it's not going to be Terror.
- 19:50I mean, Tommy still died, and he was actually nice to her.
- 19:54Yeah. And Miss Collins was nice to
- 19:57her. Yeah, there's a lot of people
- 20:00that were nicer that died. But, you know, it all happened
- 20:03because something mean happened to her several mean things
- 20:07happen to her. Yeah, exactly.
- 20:09Okay. So Third, a total of 12 Jesus.
- 20:14Okay, so all right, first one here, you were warned, never to
- 20:18push Carey to the limits. Now, you must face the evil
- 20:21consequences. Okay.
- 20:24Nobody was well, I guess Miss Collins did warn the girls like,
- 20:27hey stop being shitheads I guess but they didn't really know what
- 20:31the consequences would be. They are a gosh it will just be
- 20:34banned from prom. Oh my God, we're gonna have to
- 20:36do so many jumping jack. Yeah.
- 20:39Okay. Next up, take, Take Carrie to
- 20:42the prom. I dare you.
- 20:43That one actually. Yeah, that would make sense
- 20:46because it does feel like like, mean-spirited to wear it scary
- 20:50and it feels like the whole thing is, I mean set up.
- 20:52It kind of kind of ambiguous in the movie itself, so I think
- 20:55that. Yeah, it kind of works on a lot
- 20:58of levels Carrie may look, perfectly Innocent, but she will
- 21:02shock you right out of your seat.
- 21:04And that's a promise. Prom.
- 21:07Is that? Wish it was spelled like that
- 21:10but a chilling blend of American Graffiti and psycho, okay?
- 21:16Okay. It was just a review.
- 21:18That's not really a tagline. Yeah, the story of lonely.
- 21:22Teenage girl who possesses a strange and evil power, that
- 21:25turns a high school prom into a nightmare.
- 21:27I think all you're a lonely. Teenage girl is kind of
- 21:30undermining the like actual abuse and systemic failure.
- 21:34She's going through. Yeah.
- 21:36The And showing classic based on the novel by Stephen King.
- 21:40It is, that's accurate. Correct.
- 21:43Okay. This one's kind of the same but
- 21:45different. If you got a taste for Terror
- 21:47then you have a date with Carrie and I like that one as much I do
- 21:52anything that feels like the first draft.
- 21:54This one. Okay, this one actually
- 21:55specifies where it was from. This is Australia, okay?
- 21:59If you've wait the way that this is written on here, I think it's
- 22:06the one. Above that.
- 22:07But it says, if you've got a taste for Terror, you have a
- 22:10date with dot dot. Dot dot apostrophes Australia.
- 22:15It's like you got a day with us trillion.
- 22:17I mean Australia is kind of a terrifying continent.
- 22:20Yeah I guess the bugs that live there.
- 22:22Sure. Yeah.
- 22:24If you've got a taste for Terror take Carrie to the party, that's
- 22:27Great Britain. If the Exorcist made you
- 22:32shutter, Kerry will make you scream.
- 22:35Okay. Okay, and that's it.
- 22:38That's the final one. Okay, they had it on the poster,
- 22:41man. The poster was the good one,
- 22:43unfortunately. Yeah, unfortunately.
- 22:46But you know I think it's actually that's a really good
- 22:48tagline. So that's it for the taglines.
- 22:51Okay, let's go on into fun facts.
- 22:53Okay, okay, so Kari was the first novel published by ski
- 22:58Stephen King and it was his first novel adapted to film.
- 23:02He was only 26 years old whenever this happened and He is
- 23:06paid only 2500 dollars for the rights for the movie, okay.
- 23:10Which I think is Criminal and he said he's happy that only
- 23:13happened with the first movie. They did he learned his lesson
- 23:16right away. Yeah.
- 23:18He was a very naive young man, which kind of blows my mind that
- 23:21he was already doing this shit at 26.
- 23:24I'm feel like so I didn't get a chance to read this before we
- 23:27covered it. I do own a copy of it, and I
- 23:30feel like the copy I own has a forward written by Stephen King
- 23:34because Obviously, I have a version that's printed way later
- 23:38than 1976. Hmm.
- 23:40I feel like I remember him talking about some of, like the
- 23:43circumstances of him and his wife's life while he was like,
- 23:46working on this movie, all right.
- 23:48On the book at the time, like they just obviously like they
- 23:52weren't, it was his first book, it's not like they were like,
- 23:55you know, he was like, oh I've got contracts for thousands for
- 23:58my upcoming books. You know what I mean?
- 24:00I was reading that this the success of this movie is what
- 24:04propelled him to beings. And as like a bona fide horror
- 24:07writer, okay? And yeah, so I think in the long
- 24:12term, it benefited him, they like short term at that time.
- 24:16I'm sure getting only 2500 dollars for this is kind of
- 24:19shitty but especially with how successful the movie.
- 24:22Yes. I mean at least get like, you
- 24:24know, back pay. Yeah.
- 24:26For the success of it but no he was.
- 24:28Yeah always ask for the residual.
- 24:31Yeah, that is why we have a writer's strike.
- 24:35Exactly. And AI is a big part of that
- 24:38suit, okay? Sissy was persuaded by her
- 24:43husband Jack. Fisk, who was the art director
- 24:46for this movie to audition? And then he also convinced
- 24:50DePalma to let her audition. So, basically she auditioned for
- 24:56every part. Okay.
- 24:58And he really wanted this one girl for the role.
- 25:02He was really married to that idea, but when we came You the
- 25:06film screen test, what she did was she rub Vaseline into her
- 25:12hair. Wefts her face unwashed and wore
- 25:16a sailor dress that her mom made for her back in the seventh
- 25:19grade and she went into her addition like that.
- 25:22And then she got the part, okay? The house was decorated with
- 25:26souvenirs that were collected by the director and the producers
- 25:30from religious shops that they came across so very much like,
- 25:35The bathroom at the tattoo shop, I go to and I was actually
- 25:39thinking whenever I saw her with a little Jesus statue, as I go,
- 25:43this would be perfect for Jesse's tattoo shop.
- 25:46Yeah, my tattoo shop. They need that over there.
- 25:50So there was apparently, a wraparound segments that was
- 25:53going to be filmed for the beginning and the end of the
- 25:55movie and it was scripted and shot.
- 25:59And what it was was like, it was going to be the Y, it's house
- 26:04being pummeled. With stones that were falling
- 26:08from the sky. And I don't really know what the
- 26:12point was. It didn't really go into detail
- 26:14but what happened whenever they were going to film during the
- 26:17night of the ending, there was like a malfunction and they end
- 26:22up not being able to film the ending part but they got the
- 26:24opening. They ended up just destroying
- 26:26the footage of that and then they said, fuck it.
- 26:28We're just going to do the whole house burning at the end.
- 26:31Okay, I read that the ending of this is different than the book.
- 26:35And I'm sure you will have more knowledge on that than I do.
- 26:40I was like 16 when I read the book, I was.
- 26:43So you don't remember the answer now, okay?
- 26:45Well, yeah, no, it's been half a lifetime for me.
- 26:49Well, I obviously don't know, I've never read this, so I
- 26:52remember bits and pieces of it, I remember.
- 26:56Well, we'll get into it. I guess as we go along, but I
- 26:59can't tell you all of the specifics.
- 27:01I really need to just reread it. It's not a super long but but
- 27:04okay. The final scene was inspired by
- 27:06Deliverance, which I think is funny because the final scene of
- 27:09this movie inspired the ending of Friday, the 13th and they
- 27:15film the ending in Reverse to try and give it a dreamlike
- 27:19quality. Oh yeah.
- 27:21Yeah, I feel like I've heard that before.
- 27:23Yeah. And Sissy insisted on doing the
- 27:26stunt herself, so she actually got under all of those rocks and
- 27:32she's in a box or something and she actually like reached out
- 27:35and after they are at the end. Okay?
- 27:37And yeah, that's all I have for my fun facts.
- 27:41There are other things about this that we could talk about, I
- 27:44guess as it goes that I had read in passing.
- 27:47Okay. But you know let's just go ahead
- 27:50and go into our good bad and ugly before we do that, okay?
- 27:53All right. So Jesse, what's a good?
- 27:55What do you like about this? I really like the this is going
- 28:00to be weird because it's not one that I typically comment on a
- 28:03lot that I like this. Score for this movie?
- 28:06No, yeah, it's nice like it, you know, it's so nice and like the
- 28:11moments where like it really changes from like dreamlike to
- 28:15creepy and then it, like, it's just really it captures the mood
- 28:19of it. So.
- 28:20Well, in a way that, like, I hate to be one of those people.
- 28:24Well, that's really like, its own character in the movie, but
- 28:28like, you have like it in a way that forces you to be aware of
- 28:32it without it being distracting, like it.
- 28:35It really adds to the movie and I think that's really nice.
- 28:39I like Sissy SpaceX performance. Yeah.
- 28:43And Piper Lori's like they're, they're both good feeling to
- 28:47watch the whole dynamic is terrifying.
- 28:50Yes absolutely. And I like how very real it
- 28:56feels on some ways. The like Carrie is going through
- 28:58this abuse at home and because you know like there's always
- 29:02that like after school. After School drama, where after
- 29:08school special looks the term try think of where like, you
- 29:11know, a person's being abused at home but they're actually one of
- 29:14the cool kids and they take it out and Bully other people.
- 29:16Yeah. But you don't see the other side
- 29:18of it where somebody's being abused, and it has them kind of
- 29:22like withdrawn and not if socially competent and then
- 29:26they're also getting that abuse at the hands of their peers.
- 29:29And that's what I mean, where she was, like, filled at a
- 29:33systems level almost As you know, even the teacher that
- 29:36tries to help her is in some ways unknowingly hurting her.
- 29:40And I think it's just to say there's a lot going on in the
- 29:44story. Yeah she is doing her best and
- 29:46that's kind of that's what's so heartbreaking about it?
- 29:48Yeah that's one of the things that blew me away with this
- 29:51movie was that whole dynamic that's like a.
- 29:55So that whole thing, the whole like extreme religious person
- 30:00we're from the south. This is something that I feel
- 30:03like is more common from where We are from, especially being in
- 30:07small town in Kentucky, where I grew up.
- 30:09I have seen many people with this type of attitude and seeing
- 30:15it play out in such a CO a real and just like, what is actually
- 30:21happening behind closed doors. Yeah.
- 30:22Because like this is a thing that I feel like actually
- 30:26happens in a lot of families and it's really sad because a lot of
- 30:30people, a lot of people I think in this situation In like super,
- 30:36like people that are like, her mom put their faith for their
- 30:41children. Yeah.
- 30:42Which is really fucked up and whenever that happens like the
- 30:47child suffers from it. Absolutely.
- 30:49Yeah, the whole thing is played out in just such a dramatic way
- 30:53that it's, I don't know. I thought it was a really
- 30:57captivating watch. I do also want to say I fucking
- 31:01and I'll talk about it more when we get to it but the scene where
- 31:04she's crowned like, How it goes from such a dream and like, how
- 31:08mesmerizing it is to watch her up there and revel in the moment
- 31:12and then how quickly it changes. Yeah, that whole sequence is
- 31:16just straight, it's crazy. Yeah, another thing I really
- 31:19like is like the flashes like the glimpse of her powers that
- 31:23she gets throughout the movie. Like this is, a crazy thing is
- 31:27that she has this ability and she knows it, but she never uses
- 31:30it for like anything bad until the very end.
- 31:35But like I don't know if she does, she have full control of
- 31:38it so that's probably going to be like, my bad for the movie is
- 31:43that it leaves some of the like story building pieces out from
- 31:47the book. So like that stuff that's
- 31:49explain. Yeah, with her, like practicing
- 31:51some of it so she doesn't. Yeah.
- 31:53And like realizing how she can, how she can kind of control it
- 31:57somewhat because it felt like at the beginning of the movie, she
- 32:00had like a loose grasp on it and then by the end, she fully knew
- 32:04what she was. Yeah.
- 32:07Okay that makes sense. Yeah, no she like fully Matilda
- 32:09Matilda. Is it Matilda's?
- 32:12You never seen Matilda Matilda. I thought you're saying men told
- 32:16no Matilda's it. Okay, she like practicing yeah,
- 32:19okay yeah, I know what you're talking about.
- 32:21Yeah. But I thought it was awesome
- 32:23seeing her do all that stuff the whole time.
- 32:25Like just like small moments of these people being put in their
- 32:28place, like a whole moment where she, like, stands up to her mom
- 32:32and like, I feel like she's just not afraid of her anymore at
- 32:35that. Art because she's like, I have
- 32:36the fucking power. You can't tell me what to do
- 32:39anymore. Yeah, it's awesome.
- 32:40I loved it. But okay, the bad.
- 32:42Yeah, I guess I could see that being a bad thing.
- 32:45And then just like the way, like, as brutal as what we see
- 32:49happening between her and her mom and her, and her fellow
- 32:53students is like, it's so much more brutal in the book.
- 32:58As a. Yeah, it's just is fucking
- 32:59Relentless. You are actively cheering for
- 33:03her by the end because you're like, Now I know what she's
- 33:06doing is bad but I mean they all suck.
- 33:10It's especially cathartic with her mom to because if you think
- 33:15her mom's an abusive piece of shit in this movie even more.
- 33:18So in the bomb, I do I do I can't really think of much bad
- 33:22but I will say something that other people have all say, I'll
- 33:26give you something from Piper herself, okay?
- 33:29That I thought was interesting reading.
- 33:31So she thought that the dialogue from our For Herod characters
- 33:36specifically, it was so bad and so over-the-top.
- 33:39And to this day, she claims that this is a dark comedy, because
- 33:43there were many times that she had to just stop and laugh at
- 33:46what she's saying, because she thought it was just so
- 33:49ridiculous. And the problem I had to like,
- 33:51take her to the side and be like, hey, this is like a
- 33:54straight-up horror movie. This is serious, this is what
- 33:57we're trying to do, but I guess to some people, the dialogue is
- 34:00over the top. I think that some people think
- 34:02that her behavior and is it care?
- 34:05Richard. Yeah it's not it's nothing like
- 34:07I feel whenever I watch it like I was like I know but yeah we've
- 34:12just we've met this lady. You know what I mean?
- 34:14Like but these some people think that it's just like over the
- 34:17top. So you know, I don't think that
- 34:20there's really a whole lot bad with this movie.
- 34:22I can't really think of a bad thing but that's what she had to
- 34:25say. At least.
- 34:26Okay, ugly. I mean I'm gonna go with a
- 34:29little child abuse thing. Yeah, John a boot abuse is
- 34:34pretty terrible. That's very ugly.
- 34:37I'm going to go with the pig murder.
- 34:40I was so relieved. That that was off-screen.
- 34:43Yeah. Well kind of it.
- 34:44Yeah, mostly off screen. It's again more details in the
- 34:50book so great. Yeah, I'm glad that they skipped
- 34:54over that part especially after watching the babadook the night
- 34:56before. Yeah.
- 34:58It was nice to not have like a drawn-out sequence which we
- 35:02distracted ourselves during that sequence.
- 35:05Yeah. Okay absurd that whole sequence
- 35:10with Billy and Chris in the car we're like all these other cars.
- 35:13Keep pulling up next to him. Yeah that's just like a fucking
- 35:19night out. Right.
- 35:19Yeah. You know I kind of got like
- 35:22Friday night Vibes as like a teenager like hell yeah.
- 35:24John Travolta's. Like my lifestyle.
- 35:27So that's a good, John Travolta. Oh my God.
- 35:40That was incredible. Damn, I was not expecting that
- 35:45actually hear that. Yeah, that was totally is as he
- 35:51is fucking loving wise. He's such a piece of shit too.
- 35:54Like he goes from having like a great night and then he's just
- 35:57like, just slapping her and their whole relationship Dynamic
- 36:00is abusive and toxic. They are awful together.
- 36:04Her Her character, Chris, hargensen.
- 36:07Chris, what's her name Nancy? Allen.
- 36:11She thought, until she watched this movie, she thought that
- 36:17they were so stupid with everything that they were doing
- 36:20that. They were comedic relief,
- 36:22characters in the movie. They didn't she didn't realize
- 36:24how cruel her character actually was, until she saw the film.
- 36:28She thought that her and John Travolta were just bumbling
- 36:30idiots. The entire time.
- 36:32I mean, even when she was being blood like, The pig blood and
- 36:39like did she read the rest of the script?
- 36:40Or did she only three scenes? I think she probably only read
- 36:43her scenes. Okay, and that's the case.
- 36:46If that's the case. Sure.
- 36:47I could see it. I mean, you are still murdering
- 36:50a pig. I mean I guess it does kind of
- 36:52help her not be like over-the-top cartoon villain.
- 36:56You know she's just like an average high school mean girl.
- 36:59That's very deranged with it. But no average, she's still kind
- 37:04of over the top. With her meanness in this.
- 37:07But yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 37:09I am just thinking about like the 2013 one that we saw, where,
- 37:13like, it felt very like, you know what I mean?
- 37:16Like, anxious like, and I'm gonna murder.
- 37:19You know, if I'm being 100% honest, that 2013 movie was so
- 37:23forgettable. I can't remember a single thing,
- 37:25well, and that's what I mean, like, it plays out very like,
- 37:27she's That's the thing was so crazy about this for.
- 37:31She's So cartoon-like. High School drama like she feels
- 37:35very like you're not going to get this reference like very
- 37:39page from Degrassi wear shoes, you know?
- 37:43Like I'm gonna rip Mindy Santos is dress down in front of the
- 37:48whole school like it just like Jesse.
- 37:51I don't I don't ever do the impressions of anybody else.
- 37:54Again, just any time, you do an impression.
- 37:56It's got to be John Travolta's boys.
- 38:01You disappoint me with any other impression that he do from here
- 38:03on out. Now, the thing that is crazy in
- 38:09me is like, I think it's like a testament to how well like
- 38:14making a good movie because both of those movies have the bones
- 38:18of like, a great story with Stephen King's novel.
- 38:20Yeah, he gave them the goods to work with.
- 38:23Yeah. And then that movie was
- 38:25forgettable and I didn't really enjoy it, I can't.
- 38:29Member anything about it. And then after watching this
- 38:31movie I'm like holy shit. That was fucking amazing.
- 38:35It was crazy. I'm not gonna forget this movie
- 38:37but okay, my excerpt. I think it's absurd how long
- 38:41that bucket sits and how long it's drawn out that blood not
- 38:46congealed wasn't not fully, like, just a, like, a giant
- 38:51blood clot. Like, I don't know what the down
- 38:54there. There's like a water balloon
- 38:56action on her head, you know what I mean?
- 38:58A lot of Westerns like yeah how why did it take five minutes for
- 39:02them to do that? How do they know exactly where
- 39:06Carrie was going to be standing? Because you have to be very
- 39:09accurate with that falling on her.
- 39:11Yeah, just the whole thing is just absurd, but I think that
- 39:14that scene is shot so well with the way that the camera just
- 39:17pans all the way up there to the bucket and I also like once it
- 39:21happens and it falls, and we see it from carries perspective,
- 39:24like it is everybody laughing at her, even the people that
- 39:27clearly aren't laughing like mist, Collins isn't laughing at
- 39:30her. Yeah but in her head she's so
- 39:32like traumatized at this point. This is a cool one person, I
- 39:35trusted. Yeah, explosion.
- 39:40Okay. So what do you rate this movie?
- 39:44I'm gonna give this an eight, an eight okay?
- 39:48Because it's great. It's a great eight.
- 39:51Yeah I really it's just kind of like a gut thing right now.
- 39:54Yeah. It's all it's really solid
- 39:57movie. It's even without all the
- 39:59details from the book which is one of the reasons I'm kind of
- 40:00glad I didn't really read the book before this because you
- 40:03think you would be too distracted from all the
- 40:06differences. Yeah.
- 40:07That's the thing that yeah, I could see that being
- 40:10distracting. Big kind of like gets in your
- 40:12way of actually just sitting down and enjoying.
- 40:14Yeah. Like I don't have that issue
- 40:16when we covered misery because I know that I love both versions
- 40:21of the story. Like I knew that going in but
- 40:23like I've only in bits and pieces of this movie before
- 40:27hand. So I'm glad that I wasn't doing
- 40:29that constant comparison. I do want to know what the
- 40:32ending is because Stephen King says that he likes the ending of
- 40:35the movie better than what you wrote.
- 40:37Well, that's no. I know how that is, if I, if we
- 40:42had a nickel for every time Stephen King said that my
- 40:47reading for this, I'm giving it a 1000 boy.
- 40:50I didn't expect to love this movie as much as I did, but
- 40:54like, just watching, It the whole time yesterday.
- 40:57I was like, holy shit. This is amazing.
- 40:58I can't believe I've never watched this before.
- 41:01Okay, so what's that? Got us at 9:00?
- 41:04It's a 9. Okay, cool.
- 41:06Alright, it's all it's hurting. Everything is just sorry.
- 41:09You ready to get into it in the grand tradition of high school.
- 41:13Bullies, we start off in a gym class with kids taking it way
- 41:16too. Seriously taken gym or school to
- 41:20too, seriously, Jim. Oh, yeah.
- 41:21They're playing volleyball, volleyball and class.
- 41:24It's just, it's just fucking I'm class it's not.
- 41:27Yeah, carry is playing and she's not very good at it.
- 41:30And all the girls are kind of mad at her because she's not
- 41:31very good. Like it again, it's just gym
- 41:34class. Like, literally, all you have to
- 41:36do is show an effort. Yeah.
- 41:37That's all and she's putting forth some effort I think.
- 41:40Yeah. To try that.
- 41:42She makes like a small foil. Yeah.
- 41:44The whole point of gym class is not to be good at sports.
- 41:46It's too like Get our physical activity.
- 41:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 41:50Physical activity. Learn the importance of it and
- 41:52maybe be exposed to a couple new things.
- 41:54Yeah, definitely. So yeah, that didn't go super
- 41:58well for her so now they're all in the shower.
- 42:01Yep. And she is the last one in the
- 42:03shower and she gets her period and assume she's dying because
- 42:12she's never gotten a period before.
- 42:14She doesn't know what it is. I will say hurry.
- 42:18Auctioneer to immediately take her bloody hand and run up to a
- 42:22girl and rub it on. Her isn't exactly a grabbing her
- 42:26for help. But still like Words, use words
- 42:31don't like that. Really is how it goes on the
- 42:34book to their like she's just like making sounds at first
- 42:36before she's finally like help me I'm dying.
- 42:38Yeah, I mean, I totally understand her perspective
- 42:42because like if you're just like suddenly bleeding all of a
- 42:45sudden just that would be scary, maybe you would be speech.
- 42:48This from it, I don't know. But yeah they're all not
- 42:52receptive to it, they're not helpful and they all start
- 42:55making fun of her. So they chased her into the
- 42:58corner of the shower and start throwing like Tampax and all
- 43:01kinds of stuff. Fuck the people who need that
- 43:03stuff later because they clean out the whole dispensary like
- 43:09cheese. It's hard enough to get access
- 43:11to period products for free in a public restroom like and then
- 43:16they're just like fuck that was just throw it all in the Our
- 43:18history, the exact opposite of the spirit with which, even if
- 43:24your worst enemy gets her period, if you have a tampon,
- 43:27you give it to her. This is not the spirit with
- 43:29which that girl code rule was written.
- 43:32Maybe, maybe it was addressed after this movie.
- 43:35They're like, you know what, we gotta make girl caught about
- 43:37like they were halfway there, like they don't throw it at the
- 43:43person. Like just offered guidance and
- 43:45help you can gently say, here you go.
- 43:48Plug It up, if you chant it at her, that becomes a problem.
- 43:53And then we get her head. I do love Miss Collins coming in
- 43:56and going. What's going on here?
- 43:57It's not a pep rally. I don't know why I came for my
- 44:00voice, but I do it, John Travolta.
- 44:21Yeah, I like her. I like her.
- 44:26Physically, like she likes to shut the fuck up.
- 44:30Yeah. Like why does she hate Sue more
- 44:32than Chris? Because Sue is the worst?
- 44:35No, it's not the worst of the worst.
- 44:37I think Sue is the one that started this?
- 44:38Isn't she? Or was it Chris suit like
- 44:42laughed about it with Miss Collins?
- 44:43Like she's on his Collins would be on her side like she's
- 44:46against Kerry. She got her period.
- 44:48Yeah. So funny and Miss Collins like
- 44:50slaps. Are this Collins?
- 44:52I fucking love it. That's not she right?
- 44:54So lucky, she's a teacher. Teacher in the 70s.
- 44:57Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
- 44:58She benefited hard laughing a motherfucker.
- 45:01Whatever. She's a little annoyed.
- 45:03Yeah. She's one of those people is
- 45:04like, men people should spank their kids still these days.
- 45:07I'm sad that people don't do that anymore.
- 45:09That is her attitude. I love it though, because these
- 45:13people need a fucking squab. I'm telling you, there's so bad.
- 45:16But yeah, Kerry also reached at her and stay in her shorts with
- 45:20blood. It's just like, dude, what the,
- 45:22it's just your period. And like, I like that later,
- 45:25when Is talking to the principal.
- 45:27She's like, look, I feel really bad for Carrie, but I also kind
- 45:31of get why those girls are exasperated by her.
- 45:34Yeah she's like I want to help her but at the same time it's
- 45:36like good God girl. Get yourself together.
- 45:39Yeah. They don't know her.
- 45:41Yeah, they don't. That's the thing.
- 45:44Is that like as much as Miss Collins tries to be like helpful
- 45:48she's just like yeah her mom's a little bit kooky.
- 45:50Like she does not fully realize that Margaret White is regularly
- 45:56Li like depriving her daughter of food.
- 45:58Locking her in a closet beating her.
- 46:01Like, she doesn't realize the extent of the abuse.
- 46:04She's just like she's a little wacky, is the depriving of food.
- 46:08Something in the book because I don't feel like that's, I mean,
- 46:10don't you? When she gets home from school,
- 46:12this day, her mom, praise loudly at her locks her in a closet and
- 46:19then when Kari comes out, so go to bed.
- 46:21Okay. Yeah, you're right.
- 46:23It's not like explicit. It, but it's there, it's there.
- 46:27Yeah, also wearing they were all bullying her, she caused the
- 46:31light bulb. The blue.
- 46:32Yeah, in the locker room. So yeah, now they're in there
- 46:34talking to the principal who for the life of me, I think he has
- 46:37something against Kerry because he insists on calling her
- 46:40Cassie. Even when he's corrected five
- 46:43times yeah he sticks to Cassie. Well listen women Aren't right
- 46:51about anything. If a man says, it's something
- 46:54different. I thought you were about to say,
- 46:56women be shopping that to. Yeah, she shopped around.
- 47:03She tried to exchange those assets, through some ours.
- 47:05But he's not having it. She knows her game.
- 47:08This is will Fortune it. Like you, like, literally he's
- 47:14like, listen, I understand that both this child and this teacher
- 47:19or saying that her name is, Scary.
- 47:21But I feel like it's Cassie and I'm a man.
- 47:24And I'm right? So and the principal and a man?
- 47:27Yeah it's Cassie. Your cat is definitely Cassie
- 47:30going on. Turn on the announcement.
- 47:32Her name is Cassie. Now please for now on address
- 47:36carry as Cassie. I feel like it is not not
- 47:39happened before where like there's been an a PA announcer
- 47:42versus Cassie right. Please come to the principal's
- 47:44office and she just goes because that's happened before.
- 47:47Like my maiden name gets pronounced.
- 47:51Good get pronounced to all kinds of different ways for letters,
- 47:55four letters. It's not a difficult name but
- 47:59people approached it like it would be.
- 48:02Which like, you know what, we fuck up names all the time on
- 48:05the show. So not, like, I'm not judgmental
- 48:08of it, but it is just like, you kind of, get used to it at a
- 48:11certain point, and like I would just respond to it.
- 48:14And I remember one time, speaking of abusive parents, my
- 48:19biological father, wouldn't let us Board the plane because he
- 48:22was like, that's not your name and I was like, I highly doubt
- 48:26that there's two unaccompanied minors with the same first names
- 48:31as me and my little sister, and a variation of our last name.
- 48:35I highly doubt that, but he was so at he liked and I think he
- 48:39knew it too, but he just refused to give in like he was like, no,
- 48:43they're not gonna We're not gonna go until they pronounce
- 48:45our neighbor. I'm like, well, they don't know
- 48:47how our names being pronounced and you won't let us go over
- 48:49there and correct it. And we literally almost missed a
- 48:53fight because of it. Yeah, it's fucked up.
- 48:58Sorry, I don't know what to say. Yeah.
- 49:00But like so it's just a thing. John, Travolta say that.
- 49:04Whoa. Nothing to do with anything.
- 49:28So they called Carrie and and he insist on continuing to call her
- 49:32Cassie. Even though she corrects him
- 49:34three more times like it scary. So she flips an ashtray,
- 49:38whatever. Don't even know what happens
- 49:43here, like I should just go home for the day.
- 49:46Yeah. She's like go home for the day
- 49:47and you can skip gym for a week, which at first I think Is like a
- 49:51kindness from her so she can, you know, take a break.
- 49:55Yeah. But then what the actual
- 49:57situation is is that Miss Collins is going to use this as
- 50:00like an in-school detention which is just going to make
- 50:02things ten times worse and Carrie comes back.
- 50:05Yeah. Again they they just, they
- 50:08would, I think that this would benefit from calling the parents
- 50:12first, you know, some of those parents suck just as much as
- 50:15their kids. Most kids didn't learn it from
- 50:17nowhere. Oh yeah, look at mrs.
- 50:19Snell. Yeah.
- 50:20She's Kind of shitty also. So on her way home, there's a
- 50:24little piece of shit. Riding a bike.
- 50:27Why are asshole children in movie in horror movies, always
- 50:30riding bikes because there's something.
- 50:32I'm noxious about it. You just see that, you know,
- 50:34that kids probably an asshole and nine times out of ten.
- 50:38You're right. Oh what's his face in King at
- 50:40the hell? That's what a lot of Yale bonds
- 50:42blowing dust yet exactly. The he was probably based on
- 50:46this kid right here because he's just like riding in circles and
- 50:49then he's like creepy. Very creepy carry and and she's
- 50:52just like, fuck. You causes him to wreck his bike
- 50:55shuts him up, so, the cuts to her mom mrs.
- 51:00White knocking, on Sue's mom's home.
- 51:04She's there to spread the gospel of God's salvation, but she
- 51:09doesn't want to hear it. And she goes back.
- 51:10He's on call. Oh, there's the best part about
- 51:15that though? She goes back and gets a phone
- 51:16call. Very loudly.
- 51:17She's like, yeah, she's here in my house right now.
- 51:20Sorry, I gotta deal with martyr and I'll make her leave and then
- 51:24she just hangs up just like here, just take $10 and that
- 51:28just gets under martyred skin. Like and here's the thing too is
- 51:32that? Yeah Suze kind of shitty but
- 51:35she's the leash city of her friends and she does seem to
- 51:37legitimately realize that she crossed a line.
- 51:40So we'll give her this true. There's just a small amount of
- 51:44remorse shown. Yes.
- 51:46I like just she could go on to be a not shitty adult.
- 51:50Potentially. Yeah and so when Margaret why is
- 51:54like here is like a book of Jesus for children or whatever
- 51:58it is that she's trying to solve their preach or whatever?
- 52:01Yes spread the word. Yeah.
- 52:04And you know talking about like how children are all evil and
- 52:08blah blah blah and it smells like well Mi Soo is a good girl
- 52:13in Margaret who has never shown any ounce of kindness towards
- 52:17carriers, like Good girl, child good.
- 52:24I thought it's the devil corrupted all children.
- 52:27We have to correct them original sin, original son.
- 52:32So, yeah. She's like, I don't understand,
- 52:35but why Miss smells like I want it.
- 52:37I want to donate $5, or $10 and Margaret's.
- 52:41Like, I understand I just got like a little lock box for the
- 52:45cash donation. She gets into puts it in there.
- 52:48Clearly, she gets Respond. So I know if people would rather
- 52:51pay her to fuck off and still. Yeah.
- 52:54Yeah, I like that. She's not like oblivious to it.
- 52:58It's hot like enough times where she's like, I gotta get a box
- 53:01for this second. Like, you know, that she doesn't
- 53:03see it as like, people not liking her.
- 53:05She sees it as them being heathens and not wanting to be
- 53:08receptive to like, to God, God or whatever.
- 53:13I'm going to hell, I'm going to hell when I'm like, why am I
- 53:18here? And it's just like A playback of
- 53:20me saying, God or whatever, there's a way to do it, okay,
- 53:24there's nothing wrong with being spiritual or no, and that is not
- 53:28the point that we want anybody to take from what we're saying.
- 53:30She's just the way she's doing, it is wrong.
- 53:32Yeah, it's like an abusive and very much, the forcing, your
- 53:37thoughts and beliefs onto another person.
- 53:39Here's the thing, she's got the abusive version of God.
- 53:42Yeah, her head because there is definitely a version of God that
- 53:46is taught to people where he is like an abusive parent himself.
- 53:49Of God is portrayed as being kind of Old Testament is hard
- 53:54fucking core man. My Southern Roots wants me to
- 53:57not speak about this, but I must say, God can be a dick, and
- 54:03that's what gets me. It can happen.
- 54:10Okay, so carries home and Margaret arrives home to and
- 54:16Kari has to scramble to get dressed I want to say.
- 54:19So like the whole time the music has been on the background and
- 54:22it's just like nice little doodoo doodoo and then when we
- 54:25first see the White House, now, I read that so many times like
- 54:30the White House talking about the White House, residence.
- 54:35Yes, there we go. Yes.
- 54:37And it like all the psychos, That's the sound clip that gets
- 54:47played every time. She does the telekinesis, right?
- 54:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Margaret gets a call.
- 54:53That care is a woman and so of course, she must be.
- 54:58Why would they call about that? Great?
- 55:01Like, I don't know that they were calling to say.
- 55:03Yeah, she was sent home because you had a traumatic day but now
- 55:05I do. I yeah, she got her period.
- 55:07So we're just thought you should know.
- 55:08Yeah. Like that's it's it's rough
- 55:12because now it leads to a lot of abuse where Margaret is shouting
- 55:17scripture at her and carriers, just like why didn't you tell me
- 55:21about this? I thought I was dying and
- 55:23Margaret was like, what? Did Eve immediately?
- 55:28Fuck up. Okay, yeah, she's okay.
- 55:30The first thing, she's making a repeat, all of these has the
- 55:32Raven was called sin and then the next one was first sin was
- 55:37intercourse and like carries literally.
- 55:39Sobbing. She's like, I thought I was
- 55:41dying. Why did you not tell me about
- 55:43this piece of Life? Yeah, Eve was weak.
- 55:45Was the next one? Yeah.
- 55:46And so, then she locks her into a closet with creepy.
- 55:49Jesus creepy, Jesus, I got that written.
- 55:51You're a Jesus, is in the room right there.
- 55:54I mean, again, I'm not trying to sound sacrilegious at all, but
- 55:58this looks like a little Jesus voodoo doll.
- 56:00Yeah, kind of, yeah, it's like a, it's definitely a homemade
- 56:03Jesus says she made. Yeah, it's she's it's good for
- 56:06homemade. I'll give her that.
- 56:08This is it. Scary to look at.
- 56:11Yeah, so she's upstairs now. Afterwards mom told her to go to
- 56:14bed, she thinks she thinks her when she gets out of the closet.
- 56:18This is very abuse victim. Mentality, that whole scene of
- 56:21her getting dragged into the closet, those so yeah.
- 56:23And that's when I was like, oh wait, I have seen this movie
- 56:26because I remember seeing this scene, specifically of her like
- 56:30being dragged in there and and God, they both do just such a
- 56:35good job with this for somebody who thought that they were
- 56:38acting in. The comedy it was kind of fuck.
- 56:41Is your life Piper? Yeah, right, because this is a
- 56:43very upsetting scene right here. I don't get like you, do you
- 56:46remember? Do you remember what I loved?
- 56:48Your look loss is great, right? Okay, so when she goes upstairs
- 56:57to her room, she's looking in a mirror and it shatters and she
- 57:03magically puts it back together before her mom gets upstairs.
- 57:06And she like, does some little sneakiness for she What's the
- 57:09door with her mind? And she kind of gaslights.
- 57:11Her mom. She's like, the door is
- 57:13unlocked. Mama, I like to see that here.
- 57:14I feel like she has a grasp of her powers here.
- 57:17Yeah. Because I think I have a feeling
- 57:19that she uses her telekinesis to, like, put the mirror back in
- 57:22place, too, because there's, yeah, and we're doing that with
- 57:24your hands. You'd be cut off.
- 57:25Yeah. And that's what I'm saying.
- 57:27Like the and obviously like you have to cut some stuff out to go
- 57:30from book to movie because otherwise you're going to have
- 57:32like a 10 hour movie. Right.
- 57:35And so I think they're kind of like trying to show that she
- 57:38does know how to control it without going through the whole
- 57:40like, yeah, practicing stuff. So in class the next day a
- 57:46teacher is reading a poem out loud.
- 57:50Can I say that PJ Souls is dressed as a child in the scene.
- 57:55Sure is her hash he's got the red hat.
- 57:57That's in every scene. She does not not wear this hat.
- 58:01It's got a little Rainbow on the side.
- 58:03Love this hat. It's great.
- 58:04I like it but that with her outfit which is like overalls.
- 58:08Like Mario. Yeah, the red underneath of your
- 58:10eyes on top. Yeah.
- 58:11Yeah. It's his child.
- 58:12Yeah. She's NES.
- 58:13Mario. Yeah.
- 58:14Duh. So yeah this phone is being read
- 58:19out loud. And Tommy Ross is feel like real
- 58:21hot shit and the teacher is like the teacher wants to be the cool
- 58:24teacher that like the jocks. Like and thanks to tell me.
- 58:28What are you doing after school today, huh?
- 58:29Yeah and so he was like more Talent than just on the football
- 58:34field. A mr.
- 58:35Ross and mr. Ross, it's just like, you know,
- 58:38he's he's making smart aleck comments, he has no respect for
- 58:43this teacher and on the teachers like to Anybody have any
- 58:45critiques and nobody's saying anything because it's a high
- 58:47school English class and like, nobody fucking cares.
- 58:50Nobody fucking, it's not cool to care and carry like it's just
- 58:54like it's beautiful which granted is not a critique but
- 58:57you know, because he's she's contributing something to the
- 59:01conversation. At least he's participating in
- 59:04the class discussion and the teacher thinks this is honestly,
- 59:11I think this is worse than all of Miss Collins slaps.
- 59:15I don't think the way he like decides, he's like.
- 59:18And again, this is very much teacher, trying to be cool with
- 59:21the cool kids. Yeah.
- 59:22He's like, I'm gonna pick on the weak when you say it will
- 59:26respect me. He this guy never got past High
- 59:30School, still limited, and well, he was probably bullied in high
- 59:34school and he was like, Hey, made the bad decision.
- 59:37To go back to high school for the rest of his life as a
- 59:39teacher. Be was like never again.
- 59:43Yeah, I you were the best. Yeah, I'm yeah, I am a sister at
- 59:48my dominance. Let's go.
- 59:49Tommy sighs, Tommy, she sucks, right.
- 59:52And Tommy's like you suck and the teacher goes what?
- 59:54And he goes. Ah, Shucks I said, yeah, I said
- 59:57Shucks. Yeah.
- 59:58Can I can I tell the story? Can I tell the story of her
- 1:00:00nephew? Oh yeah, sure.
- 1:00:02Yeah, go ahead. He was like he was With Travis's
- 1:00:06mom and his little brother, she had him for the weekend or
- 1:00:10whatever and they have a pool and he wanted to go play in the
- 1:00:13pool and she goes, not right now because obviously you can't let
- 1:00:15a small child playing a pool on their own and she was doing
- 1:00:19other stuff with his younger brother.
- 1:00:22He's like, Please, can I play in the pool?
- 1:00:23And she's like, no, not right now.
- 1:00:25I said no, it'll have to be later.
- 1:00:27And he like, Stomps away and says fucking losers.
- 1:00:31And she goes. What did you say?
- 1:00:32Because I said Chucky losers, like in trouble.
- 1:00:36Good save for a four-year-old. I'll give him credit.
- 1:00:41That was pretty good. That's like my favorite Angela
- 1:00:44knows fucking loser. Yeah.
- 1:00:48Fucking nerd Franco right there. Danny McBride energy.
- 1:00:54Yeah. The Danny McBride is strong with
- 1:00:55that one. Yes.
- 1:00:56Absolutely. I can't wait for him to be old
- 1:00:58enough for us to like reasonably be like, all right this this is
- 1:01:02Danny McBride. Also What can that Tommy here?
- 1:01:07He's got this gigantic curly hair.
- 1:01:10He looks like Dwayne from Basket Case.
- 1:01:13Oh shit. He looks like if Dwayne was in a
- 1:01:16better like home life and didn't have a secret twin up in the
- 1:01:20closet. Maybe this is Twain.
- 1:01:23You know. I don't know.
- 1:01:25This is what happened before? He went to New York.
- 1:01:27Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:28Right before. Yeah.
- 1:01:29Okay. Now it's in the gym class with
- 1:01:33mrs. Collins.
- 1:01:34And she is, Going into the girls for bowling carry the previous
- 1:01:38day. And she said the original
- 1:01:40punishment. She suggested was 3-day,
- 1:01:42suspension, and no, prom for all of us for all of them.
- 1:01:46And then stating the office said, okay, how about one weeks
- 1:01:49of detention and their compromise was one weeks of
- 1:01:53detention? But if the girls refused or
- 1:01:55don't show up or like, fully participate or whatever, then
- 1:02:00her original suspension. And as to be with her.
- 1:02:02Yes, it's her its during gym class.
- 1:02:05Yeah. And She takes them outside and
- 1:02:07does meaner version of the animal, crossing stretching
- 1:02:12tapes. I mean, her version of it, but
- 1:02:14with the same music, same music. It's so I love this scene
- 1:02:18because it's like such upbeat music the and she sounds so up
- 1:02:21Vic. She's so excited to give these
- 1:02:23girls like just punishment punishment but like the girls
- 1:02:27are just like and they look legitimately exhausted.
- 1:02:30I don't think PJ Souls has ever done a jumping jack and her life
- 1:02:34like she Jaguar push. Yeah, she's nah not her strong
- 1:02:40suit but Chris takes the opportunity to stand up to miss
- 1:02:47Collins and says I'm not doing this shit anymore, I'm going.
- 1:02:50So she gets her prom revoked and suspended for three days.
- 1:02:53Hmm and she tries to get the other girls to join her and she
- 1:02:56was like, just shut up Jess. I get slapped again.
- 1:03:01Yeah, he's like, are you you're going to fire your getting fired
- 1:03:04and then she As a rally, everybody brought, you know,
- 1:03:07we'd rather go to prom fuck you. Yeah.
- 1:03:10Right Call. She sucks.
- 1:03:12So after this, let meanwhile like, wall carries, like
- 1:03:16avoiding gym class. She is in the library and she's
- 1:03:18studying telekinesis. Yeah, that's yeah.
- 1:03:21Which is crazy that they have books on telekinesis.
- 1:03:24Yeah. The high school events at the
- 1:03:25public school system, she can access stuff like that, but they
- 1:03:28clearly never gave her a proper sex, ed.
- 1:03:31Yeah, right. She's in high school and she was
- 1:03:33never told about that. That's bizarre.
- 1:03:35But Accurate because this is definitely in the South.
- 1:03:38Yeah. Okay, let me ask you a question
- 1:03:40because I feel like I know what the answer is.
- 1:03:41But was your sex ed was? I abstinence-only, I don't even
- 1:03:47really remember, ours, was like mentioned other things just
- 1:03:52enough to where legally, I guess you couldn't call it
- 1:03:55abstinence-only, but it would be like, you could have sex with
- 1:03:58condoms, but they'll definitely fail and you'll have a baby and
- 1:04:03also, you'll be a used-up. Or and your future husband all
- 1:04:07alone. Well these are all accurate.
- 1:04:10Yeah. So you know they did a fine job
- 1:04:12down there and yeah I I'm sure you didn't get this because
- 1:04:16you're a man. No.
- 1:04:18They told me. So there's this fun little
- 1:04:28activity where everybody has a piece of paper and they crumple
- 1:04:32it up and they Encompass it and they pass it to the next person
- 1:04:35and that They everybody couple and you go around, kind of like,
- 1:04:38telephone or whatever and then you get your original paper back
- 1:04:41and it's like, all right. Go ahead and make that paper
- 1:04:43nice and flat again and you can't be like, that's what
- 1:04:45happens when you have sex with men.
- 1:04:48No, no, damn, dude. That's brutal.
- 1:04:58Yeah, no, I don't think it's so fucked up, dude.
- 1:05:05What you said? At first though is bed seems
- 1:05:07pretty accurate to what I got they were like, yeah, you can do
- 1:05:11these things but probably that something bad is gonna happen to
- 1:05:16your wife, who, okay? So Tommy tells you that he made
- 1:05:22Nationals and Sue says, I don't want to go to prom with you, I
- 1:05:26don't know, I don't understand this.
- 1:05:28So if she not scheming with Chris, I and it's kind of
- 1:05:34ambiguous in the movie. Till near the end of course.
- 1:05:37Yeah. I don't remember what it's like
- 1:05:40in the book, but like, it's from what I remember, being very
- 1:05:44like, on high alert and I think it's meant to be that way
- 1:05:47because you're like, is she really going with?
- 1:05:50Like, is this a real like kind gesture supposed to be?
- 1:05:53Yeah. You can't tell?
- 1:05:55Yes. Okay, because yeah.
- 1:05:56If I remember it, does, it could be misremembering their friends
- 1:06:01like this throughout the movie so far.
- 1:06:03You've seen them together. I think Sue.
- 1:06:05And Tommy might actually are they a couple?
- 1:06:07No I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about soon soon.
- 1:06:10Chris. Yeah, their friends.
- 1:06:11Like I feel like because they're the like the ones that are the
- 1:06:14masterminds of the yeah. Chris is the Regina George Norma
- 1:06:18is the Gretchen Wieners and then sue is the Cady Heron, okay?
- 1:06:25We're like she has capacity for both good and evil.
- 1:06:28Yes. Okay.
- 1:06:29I don't really remember all of the characters but I will take
- 1:06:31your word for the Mean, Girl references.
- 1:06:33Okay, okay, that makes sense. So I guess that they are
- 1:06:37actually but yeah, he's she's telling Tommy to take Carrie to
- 1:06:41promised it. Yes.
- 1:06:43And meanwhile, Chris and Billy are having the most terrifying
- 1:06:47Drive I've ever seen or the best.
- 1:06:51I guess it depends on Whose perspective here.
- 1:06:53If I'm John Travolta, I'm having a blast.
- 1:06:55This is awesome. Right here.
- 1:06:57Don't condone it at all. But man, this sounds like a fun
- 1:07:00night. You're driving around with a
- 1:07:02girlfriend, your pals drive by next to invite you to a party.
- 1:07:05You're like, I can't go. I'm with my girlfriend right?
- 1:07:07Okay, have a beer. Okay boom.
- 1:07:10Yeah. Drinking the beer, cops, pull
- 1:07:12up. Shine a flashlight on me.
- 1:07:13Spill it all over. My girlfriend will go over at
- 1:07:16the cops a like, okay. Now he's not John Travolta.
- 1:07:21He is really quite. Yeah.
- 1:07:24Actually Early transition. Yeah.
- 1:07:27It's actually the Fonz now. Yeah.
- 1:07:29No, it's awesome. And then they have the whole
- 1:07:32fight where there's any time that she calls him a stupid
- 1:07:36shit. He was his mind.
- 1:07:37It's like I told you not to call me that reasonable reason.
- 1:07:42Yeah. But also stop acting like a
- 1:07:44stupid shit. Yeah.
- 1:07:46You are being kind of a stupid like and that's what I mean.
- 1:07:47Like they're both abusive and they're both toxic and then she
- 1:07:51sneaky sneaky is like I'm gonna give you a blow.
- 1:07:55Also, will you collect some pics by it and poured on Carrie
- 1:07:59White? I really hate our thanks.
- 1:08:01And he's like mid. Oh, and he's like, okay shit.
- 1:08:06Already said a guy. Didn't mean to say that.
- 1:08:09Yeah, he's not going to say no in that situation right there.
- 1:08:12Yeah. So Tommy approaches carrying the
- 1:08:15library and ask her to prom and she runs off because she's like,
- 1:08:19nope, no, no, I've been to the school long enough butterfly.
- 1:08:23She's gonna fight him right there.
- 1:08:24Their flight Miss Collins talks to carry because she sees our
- 1:08:30kind of hiding in a corner as she does.
- 1:08:33She is like, I feel like he invited me, like, as a trick
- 1:08:37because he wouldn't want to go with me.
- 1:08:39And these kids are all asked me that you run.
- 1:08:41Yeah, it's all the popular kids that are bullies.
- 1:08:44And so, here's where Miss Collins does yet.
- 1:08:46Again, another well-intentioned, but misguided, and poorly
- 1:08:50executed thing, where she's like trying to tell Carrie like she's
- 1:08:54like, okay. Well, you are lacking in
- 1:08:57confidence, maybe the kids won't pick on you.
- 1:08:58If you're confident maybe actually wants to take, maybe he
- 1:09:01actually wants to take you and she's like, you need to stop
- 1:09:04walking around with your head, you know, hanging down all the
- 1:09:06time. Like, okay, I'm following what
- 1:09:09you're saying and she goes maybe put on some mascara, maybe a
- 1:09:13little lipstick and it's like makeup isn't going to solve all
- 1:09:15her problems, Miss Collins. And maybe also talked about like
- 1:09:18some of the nicer qualities for on the inside.
- 1:09:20Yeah I don't like it's just again.
- 1:09:22I think it's just like she's trying to she thinks She's being
- 1:09:25helpful by like, okay, you need to have some self-confidence and
- 1:09:28like, here's an easier superficial way to do it, but
- 1:09:31it's just not coming across. Like I think, the way she means
- 1:09:34for it to, she kind of gets out of cross though, by saying like,
- 1:09:37wow I think he gave me. He probably actually likes you
- 1:09:40though, so maybe he does want you for you and he's not doing
- 1:09:44it for a prank except smash cut to hurt.
- 1:09:47Ya making Sue and Tommy come to her office rights and meeting
- 1:09:52right? Okay, so why are you asking
- 1:09:53carry? Like there's cut the We'll
- 1:09:54share. What's that?
- 1:09:55What's happened? Yeah, and and she was just like,
- 1:09:59I just want her to be involved. I wanted her to have that
- 1:10:01moment. I took what you said, the heart
- 1:10:03Miss Collins. Yeah, and Miss Collins is like
- 1:10:06bullshit. No student has ever taken what I
- 1:10:08said to heart and then even, she's kind of mean.
- 1:10:11She's like. All right, Tommy, don't you
- 1:10:12think you're going to look a little bit ridiculous taken
- 1:10:14carry to prom and then he's like, probably whatever.
- 1:10:24He was very reluctant to accept taking her, by the way.
- 1:10:27Yeah, there's like a whole scene where they're kind of like
- 1:10:29giving each other the cold treatment and then using a final
- 1:10:32taker. So he goes to Carrie's house and
- 1:10:37she won't let him in and she's like, and he's at full volume
- 1:10:43again. Not really, I don't think
- 1:10:46literally nobody in this whole town for as much as they gossip
- 1:10:48about the white family, they don't seem to understand the
- 1:10:52extent of the abuse that is happening behind closed doors,
- 1:10:56which is very true to life. I think it's heartbreaking, none
- 1:11:00of them want to get to know her mom.
- 1:11:04Enough to know how much of a piece of shit.
- 1:11:06She doesn't even matter if they knew it probably was abusers can
- 1:11:10be very Charming. People that they want to not
- 1:11:14realize that their abusers to true.
- 1:11:16So yeah, so Kari eventually only agrees to go to prom with him
- 1:11:22just to get them to like not invoke her mother's wrath.
- 1:11:26He says he won't leave until she says.
- 1:11:27Yes. So she's like fine.
- 1:11:29So you're so he coerces her into a prom date.
- 1:11:31Would not the best. Look, no, not really.
- 1:11:35But she is a little bit secretly excited, so good for here, Billy
- 1:11:40and his boys and Chris. Taken to the pig farm.
- 1:11:43And I'm just going to get it that we get sad Pig.
- 1:11:45Squeals I do. Like the way it's shot with him
- 1:11:48walking and the guys like, look at all these pigs on the wall
- 1:11:52here. This dude is stoned.
- 1:11:54Yeah, he's just like mesmerized that they were able to draw pigs
- 1:11:57on a wall was like, wow, how did he fuckin thing is crazy at
- 1:12:03dinner, Margaret tries to get Carrie to eat some like dessert
- 1:12:08and she's like, and that will give me pimples and she says
- 1:12:10that pimples are gods. If punishing, you know, it's
- 1:12:15like God I must have been a little fucking asshole as a
- 1:12:17team, then? Yeah.
- 1:12:21And then she just straight-up throws water on her.
- 1:12:24Because what did she even? I don't even remember what she
- 1:12:27said that set her off. Well, because she tells her
- 1:12:30about prom and her arms like No. And she was like, but Tommy's, a
- 1:12:34real nice boy and she goes, oh, I'm sure he is and then we get
- 1:12:37close it time. Yeah, well throwing water on her
- 1:12:40face and the candles. Yeah.
- 1:12:42And then we get kind of like an evil dead moment almost for like
- 1:12:46Carrie is like a half door and she's like, still in prison, but
- 1:12:50she's hanging out and tormenting her mom and she goes, you know,
- 1:12:53I got powers and I'm going to that prom.
- 1:12:56It's fucking awesome. Yeah.
- 1:12:58I like how she just stands out to her.
- 1:12:59I want her to just have like a little dead.
- 1:13:01I laughed. Made it sound like her dad had
- 1:13:13it too, but she just heard her mom thinks everybody's the
- 1:13:16devil. So it's kind of hard to take her
- 1:13:18word for anything. I thought the way that she was
- 1:13:20talking about her dad is just, he was kind of like a drunk
- 1:13:23asshole. That was an alcoholic and he
- 1:13:24just died. Yeah, even ran off with another
- 1:13:27woman. You have a great.
- 1:13:29Okay. But care, I don't think are you
- 1:13:30ever mentions him having the powers right now?
- 1:13:33But her mom said it's the devil in you, your father had it too.
- 1:13:37But I think she means that like her father had the Devil in him
- 1:13:40but it's fine. Yeah.
- 1:13:44Okay. So Billy and Chris are setting
- 1:13:46up a bucket of blood again? No sure not sure.
- 1:13:50How long before prom it is but probably too long beforehand for
- 1:13:54it to not become a big congealed mess.
- 1:13:55Yeah. Freddy what a Billy's boys,
- 1:14:00asks, Earnest, if he can be part of the prom committee and
- 1:14:03Earnest, as I guess the day of prom Duty goes, I'll collect the
- 1:14:06ballots. Because, okay, fine, be here at
- 1:14:076:30 goes. I'll be here at 8:00.
- 1:14:09Yeah, is such a pushover. Yeah.
- 1:14:12He doesn't even ask he's like I'm counting the ballots, he's
- 1:14:15like okay sure yeah we see people getting ready for prom
- 1:14:19and gossiping about Carrie and Tommy going together nor was
- 1:14:22getting her hair done and her fucking hat is on top of the
- 1:14:25drive. I love that so much.
- 1:14:27It's great. It's a great way to include her
- 1:14:29at. I like this whole montage
- 1:14:32though, Carrie's getting all, she's making her dress, she
- 1:14:36said, testing out like makeup at the store to she's trying on the
- 1:14:41most neutral. Makeup possible like she puts on
- 1:14:43a lipstick. That's the exact same shade is
- 1:14:45around lives which was MN immediately wife's baby steps.
- 1:14:49I like um the Buddy's trying on their taxes together.
- 1:14:53Yeah, the whole the whole little weird scene of them speeding up
- 1:14:56the voices when they are like high pitch.
- 1:14:58I thought that was an interesting weird decision.
- 1:15:01I like that. Tommy's Ruffles, are you the
- 1:15:04exact same texture as his hair? They're very much.
- 1:15:06This guy's on Ruffles as much as the guy.
- 1:15:10That is the guy that I went to To about my wedding.
- 1:15:12He's like you need Paisley. Yes, guys.
- 1:15:14Like you need Ruffles? Yeah.
- 1:15:17Same energy. And that guy did not give a
- 1:15:19fuck. When I said I hate Paisley, he
- 1:15:21was like, shut up, it's not your wedding saving.
- 1:15:23This guy right here, this guy is like I hate Ruffles like shut
- 1:15:25up. You're gonna look great.
- 1:15:26Yeah, and we got a tuxedo shirt. Yeah.
- 1:15:31Like that. We get to keep that consistent
- 1:15:33this month. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 1:15:36Okay, so Kari Where is absolutely no problem.
- 1:15:43And her mom is correct that you can see her dirty pillows, but
- 1:15:46you can see them carries prerogative.
- 1:15:48Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 1:15:48It's fine free. The nipple ahead of her time and
- 1:15:54her mom starts hurting herself very much.
- 1:15:57Like, it feels very much like a manipulation tactic to meet
- 1:16:00Carrie. Oh yeah, she's definitely done
- 1:16:01this before. Yeah.
- 1:16:04Yeah. And then like, Carrie just keeps
- 1:16:06pushing her down. And her telekinesis, I love that
- 1:16:08she's just throwing her on the bed.
- 1:16:10Yeah, like she's pushing her down, but she still like, making
- 1:16:12sure. Elaine's on the bed.
- 1:16:13She's still a nice to her mom. Ya know.
- 1:16:16Her mom is such an asshole and her mom's like saying they're
- 1:16:18all going to laugh at like At first.
- 1:16:20She's like he's not going to show up and then he pulls up and
- 1:16:22she goes, well, they're all gonna laugh at you and she's
- 1:16:24like, I'll be home early. They pull up to the gym and
- 1:16:28she's like scared to go in but Tommy convinces her to go in one
- 1:16:32of the girls is being fake-nice because by now, Chris is playing
- 1:16:36his like You know, a few people know about it.
- 1:16:39Yeah, there's like a whole scene of them actually, like,
- 1:16:41spreading it around. So everybody kind of not I don't
- 1:16:44think everybody knows but I think like the friend laughing.
- 1:16:47Yeah, Norma's wearing her fucking hat at prom.
- 1:16:50Yes, thank God. I'm glad that she has in every
- 1:16:53single City. Yeah, we saw it on the hair
- 1:16:56dryer and I was like, I hope she's wearing that fucking thing
- 1:16:58with her prom dress and she was. So sue, is that family dinner?
- 1:17:03And she says, what time is it? And it's 8:00.
- 1:17:05So she runs off because she wants to See the well, we don't
- 1:17:09know. We don't know why she's running
- 1:17:10off and she's like I gotta go see that is what leads me to
- 1:17:13believe that she would have been involved.
- 1:17:15I have no idea why she feels like she would want to be there
- 1:17:19for the prom king and queen. Well, I meant and then
- 1:17:22especially if she didn't know that, it was rigged.
- 1:17:24Like why would she assumed that carries gonna you want to watch
- 1:17:27your boyfriend, kiss? Another woman.
- 1:17:29Yeah, like it's okay, it is a little bit confusing that she
- 1:17:32has to be there for that. So Tommy's trying to get carried
- 1:17:36to dance and she Like, I just want to sit for a minute and
- 1:17:39Miss Collins comes over to talk to her and Bobby Bobby not by
- 1:17:44Tommy is super uncomfortable to as soon as he sees there's a
- 1:17:47good. I gotta go.
- 1:17:48Yeah but he's I like his attitude afterwards.
- 1:17:51Yeah. So like it's Colin says this
- 1:17:53whole moment where she's talking about like you know, problem is
- 1:17:55magical for her and she's like, is it magical for you and
- 1:17:58Carries like it's, you know, one good.
- 1:18:00So I'm around people that hate me and that I hate but, you
- 1:18:04know, Tommy's nice. So that's cool.
- 1:18:06I think she's My mom's definitely going to lock me in
- 1:18:08the closet when I get home. Like it's not a bad is going to
- 1:18:11happen afterwards. She's like a magic might not be
- 1:18:13the word I would use, but yeah, like it's pretty good night.
- 1:18:15It's like here. Take this piece of paper,
- 1:18:18crumpled it up and passing on down and now I think she
- 1:18:23actually feels like, it's kind of magical.
- 1:18:25I think she feels like she's made the turn because she's
- 1:18:27like, I'll never forget. It's yes, truly, I feel like I'm
- 1:18:30on Mars right now. So she says, And then Tommy
- 1:18:34comes back as hey. What are you doing with my date?
- 1:18:38I think playful. Miss Collins, kind of likes
- 1:18:40that. He's seems to genuinely Be
- 1:18:42Acting Kind. Yeah, I'm a little bit
- 1:18:45suspicious of them at this point to, but then he sits down, and
- 1:18:48he actually has like a little bit of playful banter with her.
- 1:18:50And I'm like, oh my God, maybe he actually is starting the why
- 1:18:53Korean it was like, are you sure you have to leave so early and
- 1:18:56she goes I promise and he goes well you know, there were people
- 1:18:59go into some place afterwards and she's like, I understand if
- 1:19:03you want to meet yours, Your friends.
- 1:19:04He has well, I wanted to see if you wanted to come and she's
- 1:19:05like, oh, I've never been there. Yeah.
- 1:19:08So let's do it. Yeah, like she's actually really
- 1:19:11excited. Like, this is going beyond the
- 1:19:12prom, you know, it's not just being at the prom with her.
- 1:19:15He's going beyond the obligation of what he agreed to.
- 1:19:17Yeah. Exactly.
- 1:19:18Yeah. Yeah, at this point, I'm
- 1:19:21starting to take a turn. Yeah.
- 1:19:24And they dance, they kiss. And I have to look away from the
- 1:19:28screen for a solid 60 seconds. Because it's spinning so much.
- 1:19:32Yeah, I read about this. Because apparently this was
- 1:19:35referred to as like the dizzying effect and what they did is they
- 1:19:40had them on a spinning platform themselves and then the camera
- 1:19:44operator was on a dolly and going the opposite direction, so
- 1:19:48and then it speeds up over time. So they just keep going faster
- 1:19:52and faster. And like that's the first time
- 1:19:54I've ever watched a movie and got motion sick.
- 1:19:57I was like, oh I can tell she watches, I've watched
- 1:19:59Cloverfield and I've been fine. Well, I mean, it was an extra
- 1:20:02rough for me because like earlier, The day.
- 1:20:04What was it? That you were playing with three
- 1:20:05Halo 3 and I like I got so sick watching you play it and then we
- 1:20:12watch this one was like I'm gonna die from a Halo 3 peeps
- 1:20:14out there kicking some ass on walk out black out the remake of
- 1:20:22walk out for all his Halo 3 peeps out there, make fun of him
- 1:20:25for not knowing what it is, still not come.
- 1:20:31Okay so everybody's got their ballots for You can Queen and
- 1:20:34carry and Tommy are on there. Why?
- 1:20:38And he's like, let's vote for ourselves and she's like, let's
- 1:20:41not do that. He goes to hell with false
- 1:20:43modesty, I like it. Yeah, that's yeah.
- 1:20:48Oh, he's wrote, Maggie's angry at produce.
- 1:20:52Oh my God, she's so annoying yet.
- 1:20:55She's chopping this carrot to the point that there's no more
- 1:20:58carrots. She's just chopping.
- 1:20:59Yeah, she's pureed it. Yeah, with my name is Noah
- 1:21:03juice. Juice.
- 1:21:03Yeah, it is a vibrating. So Chris tells Billy that the
- 1:21:09vote is rigged. She calls in some favors and
- 1:21:12Macey, like Norma is collecting all the ballots, and she throws
- 1:21:15them away and they pull out. Like I said of different ballots
- 1:21:20and Tommy and K, are announced as the winners.
- 1:21:24And they've got this nice slow motion walk to the stage and
- 1:21:28she's so teary eyes. Yeah, she's so happy and like
- 1:21:32this is again. You're seeing it from her eyes
- 1:21:36or she feels like people are actually sharing for her.
- 1:21:39She genuinely I think she's people actually every emotion.
- 1:21:43Yeah, we're maybe seeing this from her perspective here
- 1:21:46because like personally in high school I wouldn't give a shit
- 1:21:50who fucking cares who is the prom king and queen but my best
- 1:21:52friend was prom queen or did you hear well you probably see.
- 1:21:55I was happy for her. I didn't give a shit.
- 1:21:57Fuck. Especially those like some of
- 1:21:58the other like candidates like actively campaigned for it which
- 1:22:02is just so bad. Like that's the thing you should
- 1:22:04campaign for. It's just weird.
- 1:22:05Yeah but yeah, she's having a good time up there.
- 1:22:09Everything is going nice. You see, underneath the stage,
- 1:22:13though, that Chris and Billy are hiding under there and they got
- 1:22:18a rope and I'm going to give some mad props to the
- 1:22:22cinematographer here, because a way that this shot goes is so
- 1:22:26fucking cool. It slowly tracks the rope and
- 1:22:30then it pants all the way up to the top of the stage and then
- 1:22:33you see the Bucket of blood and we're getting some of this
- 1:22:35beautiful music. Again we're like we've got this
- 1:22:38nice dream like beautiful music and every time it cuts to the
- 1:22:43bucket, we get like a dude. Hmm.
- 1:22:45Yeah. You guys like nervous because
- 1:22:47it's it's barely on you know what's coming?
- 1:22:50But like you're just waiting for it to happen and I think that's
- 1:22:54people seem to have in these end was part of my absurd, how long
- 1:22:57it takes to sing the draw. But I think it's great for
- 1:23:00building suspense because, you know, it's going to happen and
- 1:23:02it's so I love watching it just like be up there while she's
- 1:23:07down there, like, accepting the crown and like, waving and
- 1:23:11crying Sue's backstage. And she's seems to be genuinely
- 1:23:15excited for them. Like, you're watching this, and
- 1:23:18you're like, oh, is she, like again, is she in on this?
- 1:23:22And she seems excited. She doesn't seem upset when they
- 1:23:24kiss, and then you're still kind of like on the fence.
- 1:23:28But then she notices the rope and she looks horrified and
- 1:23:31you're like, oh no, she's not in on it.
- 1:23:33It was still kind of confused as like, does she?
- 1:23:37She and I are. She's just like watching, but
- 1:23:39then I was kind of. Yeah, she may be.
- 1:23:41She's back on up. She sees the bucket up there.
- 1:23:44So she follows the other end and she's gonna go try and stop
- 1:23:47Chris and Billy, but miss Collins, Caesar and Miss
- 1:23:51Collins. You know, swor Blood Oath
- 1:23:54against Sue. At the beginning of this movie
- 1:23:57is like you get out of here and she's like pulling her away and
- 1:24:01it's slow motion and it kind of makes me think of Miss
- 1:24:03Congeniality where she's like trying to get the crown off of
- 1:24:06Cheryl at the end. She's being pulled back by the
- 1:24:08security guards. You know if I don't bring it
- 1:24:11back to file and I'm going to bring it back to Miss
- 1:24:12Congeniality, it's what I do. That's what I bring to the show.
- 1:24:17She is. Yeah, I I get it but at the same
- 1:24:20time. Yeah, I kind of feel bad for Sue
- 1:24:22here because yeah, she's just being drugged out and then the
- 1:24:25bucket drops. Now, here is definitely one
- 1:24:29thing. That bothers me about this.
- 1:24:33Yeah. So the bucket drops and there's
- 1:24:35not a ton of blood on her and every time we kept back to her
- 1:24:39there's more and more blood, but it's like there's only a single
- 1:24:42bucket. Okay, so I read that Sissy
- 1:24:47Spacek insisted on not. Getting the blood off of her
- 1:24:53changing for the three days. It took to film this.
- 1:24:57So maybe they kept coding more blood on her okay to do that but
- 1:25:01she refused to do that. She would just go back and just
- 1:25:04yeah. Well and here's the thing to
- 1:25:06that, always bothers me with that initial shot of the blood
- 1:25:09and it doesn't like really cover her that much.
- 1:25:11That's probably much more realistic to what would actually
- 1:25:13happen. Yes, its a little loopy owner
- 1:25:15but in the book it's described she's just completely had to
- 1:25:20tell head to toe and she She opens her eyes and her eyes are
- 1:25:23like white in the sea of red. Like that's how it's described
- 1:25:26in the book. I had a very specific visual in
- 1:25:29my head of it and the first time that I watch this, I'm like,
- 1:25:32look the build-up to this scene is amazing, like the whole,
- 1:25:37like, all of this happening and it's still a gut punch.
- 1:25:40But like I had the specific imagery in my head for so long
- 1:25:43and it's like seeing that your little bit disappointed.
- 1:25:46Yeah. I think that the imagery would
- 1:25:48be cool but I think, you know, it's not the amount of blood,
- 1:25:51it's the fact that it happened. Yeah, that is upsetting well.
- 1:25:54And then like I said, every shot we get of her, she's more.
- 1:25:57And we're covered is like, how is this happening?
- 1:26:00She's freaking out everybody's stunned and then Norma starts
- 1:26:04laughing. And then I think everybody else
- 1:26:07is kind of like this is fucked up and then the bucket Falls and
- 1:26:11knocks Tommy out. And now for some reason they're
- 1:26:13all laughing, you can see Tommy though, he's upset, he's pissed
- 1:26:16off and he's like shouting it. You don't get any audio because
- 1:26:19it's just like muted at this point.
- 1:26:22Yeah. Yeah, but yeah, like he was
- 1:26:24clearly not in on. Yeah, I know he's injured got
- 1:26:27knocked out by the bucket and yeah, this is where all hell
- 1:26:33breaks loose. So she slams all the doors shut
- 1:26:37and people are realizing they can't get out and she pulls out
- 1:26:40the fire hose and she's just blast and some kids down.
- 1:26:44Oh yeah. And everything is like red
- 1:26:47tinged right now to, which I think is just a really nice.
- 1:26:50Shot is a very literal interpretation.
- 1:26:52You should have seeing red. Yeah, I love the split screen
- 1:26:55shots of this suit. It is almost like a
- 1:26:57kaleidoscope. Yeah.
- 1:26:58Well, she's like, just seeing all of like, the horror of
- 1:27:02what's just happened to her and she M, you know, they originally
- 1:27:07filmed pretty much most of this entire thing in split-screen
- 1:27:10like that. But he did not like the way that
- 1:27:12looked. So we just chose the part so
- 1:27:14good. Okay.
- 1:27:16I feel like it's iconically. It's the poster to like, it's
- 1:27:18just like that split screen. Yeah, she causes.
- 1:27:23The principal and somebody else to get electrocuted and because
- 1:27:26the teacher that like, was being shitty about her critique okay.
- 1:27:31Yeah, yeah. So she causes them to be
- 1:27:32electrocuted and then it starts an electric fire around the gym.
- 1:27:37Miss Collins gets killed because she's like Carrie stop like
- 1:27:40somehow she knows that this is Carrie.
- 1:27:43I don't know. I mean I feel like everybody
- 1:27:46comes to the conclusion that carried in this even though like
- 1:27:49she's stuck on the stage if you covered in blood.
- 1:27:53I guess it's the way that she's looking like everywhere.
- 1:27:54She looks like something happens.
- 1:27:56But yeah, like there's like a whole thing that just kind of
- 1:27:59collapses and falls on top of his Collins and kills her.
- 1:28:05And then like, once all of the chaos is done carried, just
- 1:28:09walks out. Like it's all so catastrophic
- 1:28:13but so quick. As you know, happens with you
- 1:28:17know, most major catastrophe is like, how many you can be really
- 1:28:20quick. How many people do you think?
- 1:28:22Do you think most people got out or do you think they're all just
- 1:28:24trapped in the fire? Then they all died.
- 1:28:27That's fucked up. There's kill count on this show.
- 1:28:30Is there? Yeah, okay, let's see what James
- 1:28:32age and he says, yeah. So she walks home and as she's
- 1:28:35walking home because Chris and Billy had run out before all
- 1:28:39this Has happened. Yeah.
- 1:28:41Yeah. They got out of there before
- 1:28:42they could get killed. Yeah.
- 1:28:45So they are driving and they're going to try and hit her but she
- 1:28:49turns around and flips their car and just cause it to explode.
- 1:28:54Yeah, much likes likes van in propriety exactly.
- 1:28:57Like so expand. Yeah.
- 1:29:01And so then she goes home and her house is just filled with
- 1:29:06lit candles. In a sense of Doom.
- 1:29:08How do you have? So many candles, I is an absurd
- 1:29:15amount of candles. It's crazy and she just, she
- 1:29:18gets in the bath and she just cries but it's creepy.
- 1:29:22When she walks up there. Yeah, she like there's like was
- 1:29:25like mannequins or something where they are like wearing
- 1:29:28outfits and dress form. Sure that's yeah, that's what I
- 1:29:34thought I believe you. Okay.
- 1:29:35And like right behind the door, her mom was just waiting there
- 1:29:39posing as a Anakin. Yeah, she's in there.
- 1:29:41Taking a bath and she gets out and she's calling for her mom.
- 1:29:45But then her mom sneaks up behind her and she's like they
- 1:29:48did laugh at me Mom. She's like, please hold me.
- 1:29:51And she's like she just wants comfort as shitty as her mom has
- 1:29:55been to her and as much as she stood up to her and said that it
- 1:29:58was going to be a nice night, like it wasn't a nice night and
- 1:30:00she just she just wants her mom. Yeah.
- 1:30:03They even even though she's a piece of shoots her mom and her
- 1:30:08mom tells her, how her father They raped her.
- 1:30:14And like, that's also really sad to hear like as much as you hate
- 1:30:19Margaret. It's like, oh, I don't want
- 1:30:22shitty things to happen to people, even shitty people.
- 1:30:25You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:28It's not cool. Yeah, they were like having a
- 1:30:31whole relationship where like they weren't having sex at all
- 1:30:35and she then he got drunk one night.
- 1:30:36Yeah. So that looked at it.
- 1:30:39Lustfully. Yeah.
- 1:30:41And yeah, is one of the things it's weird.
- 1:30:45She's talking about how like she liked it and she hates herself
- 1:30:47for it. And I think she holds his kind
- 1:30:50of resentment about the whole experience towards carry because
- 1:30:53she's a product of it. Yeah.
- 1:30:56Oh, definitely. Yeah.
- 1:30:58And you know and she's, she's like, let's pray one last time.
- 1:31:02Carrie. Doesn't catch the one last time.
- 1:31:04She's just like, yes, Mom, I will pray with you, then, will
- 1:31:06you please hold me? Cuz I'm have a sad child.
- 1:31:09And I want to cry on my mother. Older.
- 1:31:11Yeah. Okay.
- 1:31:11We're going to stop with the whole praying.
- 1:31:13Show you going to be nice to me now, okay, cool.
- 1:31:15Like yeah, yeah and then, as they're there for moms stabs are
- 1:31:19in. She's just so shocked and she
- 1:31:21falls back on the stairs. Piper Laurie is right.
- 1:31:23Like, how could you mistake this for drama?
- 1:31:26When it's clearly a comedy? I told, I mean leg, what the
- 1:31:30fuck was? She think?
- 1:31:31She's still refers to it as a black comedy, what I don't get
- 1:31:35it. But, yeah, she chases carry and
- 1:31:39tries to finish her off. But Carrie uses, Her
- 1:31:41telekinesis, it take all kinds of knives.
- 1:31:43Every utensil in this kitchen, is basically like the Michael
- 1:31:46Myers from Halloween kills approach.
- 1:31:48Yeah, I'm going to test all these knives on you.
- 1:31:50Now, I don't know if you can't this the way she's pinned up in
- 1:31:54the doorway. And, and all of the knives that
- 1:31:57are in her, it matches creepy, Jesus, in the closet.
- 1:32:00It's the same statue. That carries always been forced
- 1:32:02to stare at. I didn't know as a yeah, it's
- 1:32:04the exact same pose and the knives are in all the exact same
- 1:32:07spots. Wow.
- 1:32:08Yeah. So she did that intentionally, I
- 1:32:10don't know. Is necessarily intentional orcas
- 1:32:13just yeah. But yeah.
- 1:32:15That's that's there. And she's sad that her mom is
- 1:32:21dead. Yeah.
- 1:32:22She runs over to her and unpin sir, and just grabs her and hold
- 1:32:26her. And she was crying the house
- 1:32:28collapses. It just catches on fire and it
- 1:32:31started sinking into the ground. And I was wondering if she
- 1:32:34actually like going to hell maybe at this point because
- 1:32:39like, whatever Mama's, right? If this whole time and it was
- 1:32:42actually Satan and she's like, all right, Satan's like, all
- 1:32:44right, he didn't come home, good job, Gary.
- 1:32:49He killed her that mean because it's just straight up sinking
- 1:32:53into the ground while it's burning.
- 1:32:55That seems like a very much, like hell type of thing to
- 1:32:58happen. Yeah, yeah, so we cut to the
- 1:33:03Snell household, mrs. Snell is on the phone with
- 1:33:07Betty. She said, thank God.
- 1:33:09It's you. I've been getting calls from
- 1:33:10reporters all day. A because now I didn't let her
- 1:33:12go to the funeral. I just figured it'd be too much
- 1:33:15so definitely Tommy died. All of her friends died.
- 1:33:19Oh yeah, like so there's been a lot of funerals.
- 1:33:21She's like we're just going to leave for a little bit.
- 1:33:24Get away from all this. Meanwhile Sue is in, presumably
- 1:33:28a drugged-up sleep State. Yeah.
- 1:33:30Definitely got like she said on the phone, like the doctors say
- 1:33:34she's doing fine. She's sleeping more than she
- 1:33:36should be, but the doctor said, that's to be expected.
- 1:33:39Yeah, so yeah. Cuts to her and She's having a
- 1:33:41dream, she's going to go lay flowers on carries great.
- 1:33:45Yeah. Even her little cardboard cross
- 1:33:48has been graffitied. I'm confused by this because
- 1:33:51it's also, there's also a for sale sign.
- 1:33:54Yeah. That one outside of their house,
- 1:33:56the whole, the whole show is that the same one I thought.
- 1:33:58Like, somebody was like, try. I saw, I thought that was the
- 1:34:00neighbor's house, okay, okay, I thought in this instance right
- 1:34:05here, they're like, trying to sell it, but also it's the
- 1:34:07grave. So, I, you're buying a house or
- 1:34:09you're also getting Like a grave.
- 1:34:13I don't know is weird. Yeah as she is laying the
- 1:34:15flowers. That's fun.
- 1:34:17Yeah, boom. Yeah, absurd.
- 1:34:19It's scary. It is a pretty scary ending and
- 1:34:22it cuts her waking up and freaking out.
- 1:34:24Yeah. As an impactful ending for sure.
- 1:34:26Yes. It's I mean it's been reproduced
- 1:34:31so many times at this point, you know?
- 1:34:33Yeah. Okay.
- 1:34:35And that's the end of the movie. So Jesse, how do you feel about
- 1:34:39it after talking about it? I feel pretty good about it.
- 1:34:42I will bump it up to 99. Okay, cool.
- 1:34:44I still think that I wish we'd seen a little bit, a little bit
- 1:34:50more of the build-up just so you can feel so much of the despair
- 1:34:54but I think one of the things this maybe does really well, is
- 1:34:57that? Yeah, we've got this mass murder
- 1:34:59scene. Right?
- 1:35:01But that's not the horrifying part of this movie.
- 1:35:04Yeah, it's not all just like killing but there's this.
- 1:35:07Stan. Our psychological elements.
- 1:35:08Yeah, that is not what the horror of this movie is and I
- 1:35:11like that. We don't Linger on that scene
- 1:35:12because as You know how a body count as it is.
- 1:35:19As I'm sure expensive as it was to shoot like, it's over very
- 1:35:23quickly and I like that. So much of the horror in this
- 1:35:26movie is everything else. I gotta be honest.
- 1:35:30So like I know a lot of tragic shit and innocent people died
- 1:35:34there. But in a sense, it was very
- 1:35:37satisfying to see her. Yeah, just go all out and just
- 1:35:40like scorched Earth. Fuck you guys, you guys have
- 1:35:43been terrible to me. I'm just I'm done with it, you
- 1:35:46guys are gonna again, I don't want shitty things to happen to
- 1:35:49Shady people, but the catharsis that you kind of feel and
- 1:35:52Carries and where she was going to snap at some point anyway.
- 1:35:55Yeah. It's great.
- 1:35:57Yeah, it's like in the story was told very well to get us to that
- 1:36:01point. Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 1:36:02Yeah. You feel, yeah.
- 1:36:04You shouldn't feel good about it but you kind of do.
- 1:36:08Yeah, I'm keeping mine and it's him.
- 1:36:09Okay. So we went up to a 9.5 nice.
- 1:36:14Talia, was mostly sleepy during this movie, but she was like
- 1:36:18having very active dreams. She had a little bit of a
- 1:36:23tantrum after we paused for Dinner at the one hour mark.
- 1:36:28Yes. She she threw all the pillows
- 1:36:30off the couch. She wanted to throw you off the
- 1:36:32couch. Yeah.
- 1:36:35Very special blankie that I had as a child and I passed down to
- 1:36:39her. We passed down to her today or
- 1:36:41not today or yesterday washed it.
- 1:36:44Put it on there. I used to be her kennel blankie,
- 1:36:47but yeah, he's our kind of anymore.
- 1:36:48So, got on the couch and through that right off onto the ground,
- 1:36:52all over toys are Toys down around her pillow down.
- 1:36:56She's here and she tried to knock those down.
- 1:36:59She ran out of targets and looked in my direction.
- 1:37:01She's like you're next, she ran over me and I head-butted my
- 1:37:04pillows. Yeah, she's like, all right.
- 1:37:07Fuck you too. She had her own Carey moment I
- 1:37:09think. Yeah, I think she was like, this
- 1:37:11is the scene right here? Yeah.
- 1:37:13So all that said, I think Tyler gives it an eight, okay.
- 1:37:16Yeah. I think she likes it was like,
- 1:37:18yeah, I feel that anger. Zoe.
- 1:37:22Maybe she was in the room for about half the movie.
- 1:37:24She was in and out. Yeah, she misses Stall, the
- 1:37:26explosions. Yeah, that's the thing she did
- 1:37:29miss the explosions. Like shoot.
- 1:37:31Like I said, she's in and out. I like lean more towards.
- 1:37:34She missed more of it than she saw though.
- 1:37:36Yeah. That's how I feel, too.
- 1:37:39Okay, could you relate to? Hmm.
- 1:37:48Who do I relate to? That's a really good question in
- 1:37:51this movie. Yeah.
- 1:37:54Because either you get somebody who has some severe, trauma done
- 1:37:57to them was or somebody that was shitty.
- 1:38:00Basically, I'm going to see Miss Collins for the factors like
- 1:38:04wanting to help somebody, but maybe not necessarily always
- 1:38:08doing it in the right way. Okay.
- 1:38:10Your hearts in the right place? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:38:13Cuz I've definitely had those experiences before.
- 1:38:15All right. Okay.
- 1:38:18Hmm, for me. I got it is kind of tough to
- 1:38:26pick one here. I'm going to go with Tommy for
- 1:38:33the fact that he revealed to carry that.
- 1:38:39He derives his poem, plagiarized his poem which you know, I
- 1:38:44thought at that point when he was saying that he was going to
- 1:38:46reveal. By the way, I plagiarized my
- 1:38:48palm. You like something that I didn't
- 1:38:50even do because it's like the whole time she kept asking, Why
- 1:38:53why did you take me? He said you liked my poem.
- 1:38:55Mmm. He's like, by the way, I didn't
- 1:38:58write it. I was like, oh shit.
- 1:38:59That's going to happen. But um, you know, I had the same
- 1:39:02thing happen to me in my Middle School reading class.
- 1:39:06We have was its class classic book fair.
- 1:39:10Yeah. No.
- 1:39:10No. We have this thing where you
- 1:39:14were forced to like read a book then you had to take a test on
- 1:39:17no Accelerated Reader that's a and I was like you want to take
- 1:39:22my test for This guy offered to do all kinds of our tests and he
- 1:39:25did that. And we got busted.
- 1:39:27When I moved in elementary school.
- 1:39:29I was in the middle of the fourth Harry Potter book, which
- 1:39:32is what if 32 points, if you got a perfect score on Accelerated
- 1:39:36Reader and we had like class competitions and my class was
- 1:39:39really sad that they were going to lose out on all my points.
- 1:39:41Wow, well, it was a Harry Potter book that he died for me.
- 1:39:45So yeah. Okay, dream sequel.
- 1:39:51What we want to happen after this.
- 1:39:56How do you do a sequel to this? How is there not been a sequel
- 1:40:01to this? There has been there has scary
- 1:40:03too? Yeah, I don't know what happens
- 1:40:06in it, but I know it exists. Let's see.
- 1:40:09Soos now goes on to be like a not shitty adult but she has a
- 1:40:16shitty kid and she has to watch these things happen from this
- 1:40:19art know. She's got two kids, one of them
- 1:40:21to carry one of them's, a Chris. And she's got a watch, this
- 1:40:24Dynamic, go down between them. I like that one of them's like
- 1:40:29like the carry is like a reserve kid, that doesn't do well in
- 1:40:34school and the other ones like jock athlete.
- 1:40:36Yeah, it's popular kid. Yeah.
- 1:40:40Oh my God, that's great. I like that idea.
- 1:40:42Okay, cool. Okay, so now this time for a new
- 1:40:48tag on Do we have a new tagline for this?
- 1:40:53Go ahead. What?
- 1:40:54You got going to the prom with Carrie is buckets of fun?
- 1:41:00Okay, okay, mmm, I kind of like that actually What?
- 1:41:09This prank was just one drop in the bucket.
- 1:41:14You're on the right track with it.
- 1:41:17I like what you're saying, I'm not coming up with anything on
- 1:41:22my in though. Okay, we're going with that.
- 1:41:26Okay. Which one?
- 1:41:28I think the first one you did was better problem with carries
- 1:41:30buckets of fun. Yes.
- 1:41:32Okay, yeah, I think that's okay. Okay.
- 1:41:35All right. Now, it's time for internet
- 1:41:37reviews. Yay.
- 1:41:40So this was reviewed back in, 2011, okay, they gave it a 2 out
- 1:41:46of 10, its title drawn-out, irritating and disappointing.
- 1:41:50Oh boy, okay, so strap in this isn't a super Only one bed.
- 1:41:54It's not quick. I had been greatly looking
- 1:41:58forward to watching this one for a long time.
- 1:42:00And after finally doing so, I honestly can't see what people
- 1:42:03like so much about this drawn-out.
- 1:42:05Stupid annoying wet, flannel of a horror film for an allegedly
- 1:42:10famous scary movie. It took so long to get to any
- 1:42:12sort of horror it was a joke. It wouldn't have been so bad if
- 1:42:16the build-up content was interesting but what we have
- 1:42:19instead is childlike garbage dialogue from John Travolta and
- 1:42:23Nancy Allen. Character along with comedy,
- 1:42:25slap noise, and school, ground, and solds.
- 1:42:27Most of this movie felt like a spoof to me and a repulsively
- 1:42:31irritating mother. Who will definitely prevent me
- 1:42:34from RE watching the film. Everyone knows that is going.
- 1:42:38Okay, sorry, go ahead. Yes.
- 1:42:39What's this review? Written by Piper Laurie?
- 1:42:41I am starting to think is very much in line with what she was
- 1:42:46saying. Everyone knows what is going to
- 1:42:49happen at the End by the poster or the DVD cover.
- 1:42:52So, by the time, the slow-mo bucket seen that the prom is
- 1:42:55dragging out along with its at a snail's pace I was virtually
- 1:42:59screaming out. Just pull the Rope already.
- 1:43:02Of course the only highlight of the film following.
- 1:43:04This seen all of the destruction Revenge B went so quickly
- 1:43:08compared to the rest of the picture that I felt robbed.
- 1:43:11The only savior came at the very last scene when even when I
- 1:43:15guessed what was coming, it's still made me jump a little
- 1:43:18Truly a below-average movie, which I'm sure could have been
- 1:43:22filmed much better at someone else directed The Stephen King
- 1:43:25story after seeing so much, praise for this.
- 1:43:27I am very, very disappointed. I think that's a person like we
- 1:43:33were talking about before that doesn't recognize the
- 1:43:35psychological horror aspects of what was going on before to some
- 1:43:39people. I guess I can see that being
- 1:43:40over-the-top and unrealistic but like from this we've definitely
- 1:43:45had movies before where I've been like, no, I don't even I
- 1:43:48think the horrors, the killing the horrors, the other things,
- 1:43:50and you're like, no, Lahore in this movie is definitely the
- 1:43:52killings. We had movies where we've
- 1:43:54disagreed on that before. Yeah, sure.
- 1:43:56I can see it being score for people.
- 1:43:58If they have, they don't connect with that.
- 1:43:59And again, if you've never dealt with the fundamentalist, then
- 1:44:05it's hard to understand that that's not far off from how they
- 1:44:11be doing. That is how they be.
- 1:44:13Yeah, that is definitely how it is.
- 1:44:16It's I mean it's movie. Really that an accurate with the
- 1:44:20depiction? Just I mean I wasn't even like.
- 1:44:24Let me put this in the paper crumpling thing that wasn't even
- 1:44:27coming from like a Fundy. Like that was just, you know,
- 1:44:30like the the enormous. Yeah.
- 1:44:32This is like yeah. No, this is.
- 1:44:34This is what sex is. Yeah.
- 1:44:36You know, that was the reasonable take on it.
- 1:44:38So imagine raising your hand like, okay, what?
- 1:44:41Sex sex is like a crumpled piece of paper.
- 1:44:44If you're a girl, if you're a girl, you're a A guy you can
- 1:44:49have the whole Rhema printer paper and it's fine.
- 1:44:51Yeah, you just get a new sheet. Just.
- 1:44:54Yeah, you just keep crumpled in that shit and tossing it into
- 1:44:56the garbage bin because once they're done, once you've done
- 1:44:59it one time, they're done. Yeah, can't have sex with images
- 1:45:02in the same paper twice granddaddy used to say and yeah,
- 1:45:13kind of like what you were saying before the ending.
- 1:45:15It does kind of go by really fast but like, I don't know.
- 1:45:18I think that I think that's brilliant.
- 1:45:21I'm Brian depalma's part. I think so, take not linger on
- 1:45:24that because that is not what the horror of it is meant to be.
- 1:45:29Yeah, I agree. And even at the end to the whole
- 1:45:32standoff between her and her mom, that's fucking creepy to.
- 1:45:36She is hiding waiting for her to come home.
- 1:45:39And then she gets her in like a false sense of security.
- 1:45:42And stabs her in the back, literally literally stabbing her
- 1:45:45child in the back. Yeah, that's messed up, man.
- 1:45:48But you know what, if it's too. So it's kind of like what we
- 1:45:51were talking about with prom night last week, that movie was
- 1:45:54a lot of buildup to have fun end of the movie.
- 1:45:58But a whole lot of not horror and there are plenty of people
- 1:46:01who say That's a classic and probably think our review of
- 1:46:04it's ridiculous. So, you know it to each their
- 1:46:08own. Yeah, really.
- 1:46:09And truly I, if this isn't the most Movie for you.
- 1:46:13I guess I understand and respect that.
- 1:46:16I mean, I do understand and respect that.
- 1:46:17I don't personally have the same experience with it, but that's
- 1:46:22what's great about movie. That's, that's it.
- 1:46:25Yeah, everybody can have different opinions about it
- 1:46:27doesn't make it invalid. If you don't think that this is
- 1:46:29a good movie, okay? But moving on, I've got some
- 1:46:33listener reviews over on Twitter.
- 1:46:35Tyler, he says, I watch this movie for the first time in like
- 1:46:40high school when my dad showed it to me, It genuinely terrified
- 1:46:43me. But mainly Piper Lori's
- 1:46:45performance. Got me.
- 1:46:46It felt over the top, but real, this movie is a classic easily.
- 1:46:50There we go. See, yes.
- 1:46:51Is saying the same thing. I, yeah, it's over-the-top but
- 1:46:54like, it's definitely coming from a real place.
- 1:46:56Yes, absolutely movies for days, says positively engrossing and
- 1:47:01beautiful expert and it's drama and Terror both Sissy Spacek and
- 1:47:05Piper Laurie. Give tour de force performance.
- 1:47:08Has the cinematography is fearless and daring.
- 1:47:12And one of the absolute best King adaptations, it's a Vibe.
- 1:47:15The likes of which we don't get much anymore.
- 1:47:18I agree. I am I I do clean us today would
- 1:47:23be scared to go that long without like the main thing.
- 1:47:27Happy right. I wonder did the Remake kind of
- 1:47:32build more of like the horror beforehand.
- 1:47:35Did she do other stuff? I don't know.
- 1:47:37I think we're just gonna unfortunately, I'm gonna have to
- 1:47:39watch. We're not, we're not going to
- 1:47:41have No. We're gonna have to listen to
- 1:47:44them. Try and tell us that Chloe
- 1:47:46Grace. Moretz is not fucking adorable.
- 1:47:49Well, and here's the thing too. I think Sissy Spacek is a total
- 1:47:53babe and I was an act like she's super ugly in this movie.
- 1:47:56I was going to say to like she's not unattractive at all.
- 1:47:59She yeah. Very pretty girl.
- 1:48:01Well, I hear people say that's why the Remake doesn't work is
- 1:48:04because, you know, they keep casting attractive actresses and
- 1:48:07I'm like, I'm sorry. Have you seen so?
- 1:48:10See, ya. I mean she makes me think of
- 1:48:13like the girls on Top Model that like paper, like they all send
- 1:48:17that I can't be a metal because I'm Too Tall too skinny and to
- 1:48:21freckly, and it's like, oh, so you're beautiful fect.
- 1:48:26Yeah, great. Yeah, people are gonna love you.
- 1:48:30Okay. Don't get that take either,
- 1:48:34okay? And the final, one on Instagram,
- 1:48:36we have Tucker, he says, I truly moving, coming-of-age film, a
- 1:48:39bloody good time, with great performances and effects.
- 1:48:41Is that we're truly ahead of their time 9 out of 10.
- 1:48:44Okay. Yeah, the performances were
- 1:48:45great, but the effects were really good to a lot of Care.
- 1:48:49One into this movie and it's obvious.
- 1:48:52Yeah, I went on to check. This guy's IMDb to see what else
- 1:48:55he did. And he's kind of all over the
- 1:48:57place isn't really sick with horror.
- 1:48:59He did that one. I can't remember what it's
- 1:49:03called. I know which one you're talking
- 1:49:07about. Once we saw the same
- 1:49:08documentary. Yeah, body double or something
- 1:49:11like Yeah a where they pulled like a lot of interesting
- 1:49:15cinematography yeah yeah yeah yeah I think that one is kind of
- 1:49:18more what people refer to as like a modern-day Jawa or
- 1:49:22something. I don't remember but I would
- 1:49:24like to watch it but yeah this movie was made super super well
- 1:49:27and there's not really a white that I could see the that would
- 1:49:31change or do differently. I was caught off guard with how
- 1:49:35much I liked it. I am the type that I have talked
- 1:49:39to you many times that I'm sick of like Stephen King adaptations
- 1:49:43because I think that's done to death and I one of the ones that
- 1:49:49I've watched have not exactly been good like Carrie.
- 1:49:51And whenever we watched the pet cemetery remake, it chapter one
- 1:49:56was going to chapter 2. Not so much.
- 1:49:58But um you know, I miss right here made me be like, wow!
- 1:50:03Okay, that was a really good. I'm I could see myself watching
- 1:50:06some more Stephen King adaptation snow.
- 1:50:09Okay. Okay.
- 1:50:11Only if they're well done. I think you'd like the Mist.
- 1:50:15I want to watch maximum enough maximum over Jackson.
- 1:50:18Mm, mm maximum. Um, yeah, Maximum Overdrive.
- 1:50:21The mr. I would watch that to you.
- 1:50:24Talk about the one that's made of the 2000s.
- 1:50:27Yeah. One that famously gave a better
- 1:50:30and yeah, that's what everybody says about that one.
- 1:50:32Yeah I would it's a total fucking gut punch compared to
- 1:50:36the ambiguity of the novella. Alright.
- 1:50:39So that's it for this weeks episode.
- 1:50:41Yeah. So what's next Jesse, Scream 4
- 1:50:45p.m. for is next yard, not fully a prom maybe but we can refer to
- 1:50:50it as the after-party. This is the after party

- 1:51:10Sometimes it's on Paramount plus sometimes it's on Netflix, I
- 1:51:13don't know if On those right now I'm so fucking excited to talk
- 1:51:20about that. One scream for is I don't I'm
- 1:51:23curious to see where most people go in with that one because I I
- 1:51:26know it's divisive amongst the fan base but I love it.
- 1:51:31Yeah it's definitely a weird one in the series.
- 1:51:37So I'm excited to talk about excited to watch it again.
- 1:51:40Y'all watch it and then let us know how you think or how you
