- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, well it's Saturday and we are finally getting
- 0:02Speaker 1: to Terminello's take. It's been a busy week, Louis, as
- 0:06Speaker 1: you know, been covering a lot of different shifts in
- 0:08Speaker 1: the radio, but here we are talking sports to end
- 0:11Speaker 1: the week, and uh, you know, the week's ending. But boy,
- 0:15Speaker 1: I feel like everything's just heating up. We have the
- 0:17Speaker 1: draft recaps that our people are doing. We've got to
- 0:21Speaker 1: me the most fun series of the Flyers Penguins right now.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I mean, they could really take out the Pens uh
- 0:26Speaker 1: in four, which is just who thought that would happen?
- 0:29Speaker 1: And uh, hey, the Anks are you're Theanks are doing okay,
- 0:33Speaker 1: and the Mets got off the snight a little bit.
- 0:35Speaker 1: But where do you want to start? So we talked
- 0:37Speaker 1: draft night to start, Louis, Hey.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Alex, thanks for having me, and yeah, let's let's let's
- 0:43Speaker 2: start off with the uh with the draft. I'll give
- 0:46Speaker 2: you my first of all, you know, the draft is
- 0:50Speaker 2: overhyped in my opinion, Yes, we're excited. We watched it.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I watched it on Thursday night, especially because the two
- 0:59Speaker 2: local teams had multiple picks in the first round and
- 1:03Speaker 2: the Jets ended up getting a third pick. With a
- 1:05Speaker 2: trade during the draft on Thursday night. So yes, it's exciting,
- 1:11Speaker 2: it gives you hope, but really, I mean, we can
- 1:14Speaker 2: go down through history, recent history and see players that
- 1:21Speaker 2: not only the teams that we follow closely picked, but
- 1:24Speaker 2: in the league and that didn't work out. I taught
- 1:30Speaker 2: looking at from a Jet point of view, we'll look
- 1:32Speaker 2: at them first, since they had the first pick after
- 1:35Speaker 2: the Raiders picked Fernando Mendoza, who was the best player
- 1:39Speaker 2: in the draft regardless of position in my opinion, because
- 1:44Speaker 2: with no quarterback, if you don't have a quarterback, you
- 1:47Speaker 2: have nothing. I don't care what the rest of the
- 1:49Speaker 2: team looks like. I guess the Jets decided on David
- 1:55Speaker 2: Bailey because he was more pro ready than the other players,
- 1:58Speaker 2: including RVL Reese. I guess it was either gonna be him,
- 2:04Speaker 2: Bailly or Reese. Most people, a lot of people in
- 2:07Speaker 2: the league thought they were gonna pick Reese. A lot
- 2:08Speaker 2: of people said they would pick Bailey, but they needed
- 2:10Speaker 2: somebody who can rush the passer Alex when you don't
- 2:13Speaker 2: get an interception in the seventeen game NFL regular season,
- 2:18Speaker 2: which is mind boggling to me, and if you watch
- 2:21Speaker 2: those games like for some reason, I watched all seventeen
- 2:24Speaker 2: of this miserable season. They didn't even come close to
- 2:27Speaker 2: an interception. So they need somebody to create turnovers, somebody
- 2:30Speaker 2: to have the quarterback throw the ball a second earlier
- 2:35Speaker 2: so they can so they can get in the game
- 2:37Speaker 2: or force to fumble.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and the game that they did have a turnover,
- 2:40Speaker 1: they end up blowing against the Browns anyway, So it
- 2:42Speaker 1: was just a really bad That was the game. Glenn's
- 2:45Speaker 1: running down the sideline. It was kind of a funny
- 2:48Speaker 1: again that was against the Bucks or against the Bucks
- 2:50Speaker 1: and Bus. Yeah, it was. It was a bad season
- 2:53Speaker 1: in a bad game there.
- 2:54Speaker 2: But yeah, so but they he I mean, I like
- 2:59Speaker 2: them getting Kenyan Sadique. Yes, and they always I always
- 3:03Speaker 2: hate that term. This guy's a freak athlete. The guy's
- 3:06Speaker 2: an athlete. He played for a team that was in
- 3:10Speaker 2: the wide open offense Oregon. Uh. He played in the
- 3:14Speaker 2: playoff just like David Bailey did. Just like their third
- 3:18Speaker 2: number one pick, Omar Cooper Junior, who I saw play
- 3:22Speaker 2: many times last year because Indiana was so good, and
- 3:25Speaker 2: he made that that great catch at the end at
- 3:28Speaker 2: the back of the end zone against Penn State. That
- 3:30Speaker 2: that was his signature moment. And then they trade up
- 3:33Speaker 2: for D'Angelo Ponds last night. I thought that was a
- 3:37Speaker 2: I thought that was a good move. I got give
- 3:43Speaker 2: him an a. I guy, give the Jets an a.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Uh and now, and even looking at the team across
- 3:50Speaker 2: the MetLife Stadium locker room, I gotta give them an
- 3:53Speaker 2: a because he can't go wrong with with Reees. Potentially, again,
- 3:58Speaker 2: we have to see all these guys on the field
- 4:01Speaker 2: during the season and if they fit in do they
- 4:03Speaker 2: do they fit the schemes that these teams coaches want
- 4:07Speaker 2: to play, so we don't know until they get on
- 4:09Speaker 2: the field.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I am surprised, but look, they also got rid of
- 4:14Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence, and I think that was an impetus to
- 4:16Speaker 1: get Rvel Reese. I mean also, guys were there were
- 4:20Speaker 1: some surprising picks before five and then they go with Rvel.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Everybody wanted Caleb Downs. But in this draft, I kind
- 4:27Speaker 1: of trust what Joe Shane's doing here. I really, I
- 4:29Speaker 1: really do.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Again again, Alex Joe Shane is Yeah, Joe Shane is
- 4:38Speaker 2: definitely putting his two cents in, But this team is
- 4:42Speaker 2: being run in all way, shape or form by by
- 4:46Speaker 2: John Harball. If John Harbaugh wants uh light blue toilet
- 4:52Speaker 2: paper in the men's room, He's going to get it. Uh.
- 4:56Speaker 2: That's how much he's running. He's running the franchise. And again,
- 5:01Speaker 2: Joe Shane is, I'm sure giving him his recommendation. I'm
- 5:05Speaker 2: sure Joe Shane is being asked by John Hawbor for
- 5:08Speaker 2: what what he thinks. And I think Hawbor's treated Joe
- 5:12Speaker 2: Shane would respect in a tough situation. But when you're
- 5:16Speaker 2: paying Harbor one hundred million dollars over five years, he
- 5:20Speaker 2: is the New York Giants.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Football Giants, and look, well the tenth pick. You know.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I was at the draft party on Thursday night and
- 5:29Speaker 1: everybody was kind of leaving disappointed that they didn't get
- 5:32Speaker 1: a name. But I keep reminding people, I'm sure you
- 5:36Speaker 1: saw my YouTube short on this I did. He was Miami's.
- 5:40Speaker 1: He was on Miami's old line, and that old line
- 5:43Speaker 1: got Carson Beck, who got drafted last night. But he
- 5:46Speaker 1: got They got Carson Beck all the way to the
- 5:48Speaker 1: National title game. That's got to tell me something about
- 5:51Speaker 1: this kid, uh and the way he's able to protect
- 5:53Speaker 1: his quarterback, and you need that for Jackson dart So.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Absolutely, but I am surprised that they passed over chances
- 6:01Speaker 2: to get Caleb Downs twice and Sunny Styles. So that
- 6:08Speaker 2: did the alex I have Tomant, that's it surprise me.
- 6:10Speaker 2: There were a lot of good players in that top fifteen,
- 6:13Speaker 2: and you know, you can't with one pick. You can
- 6:16Speaker 2: only pick one player. You can't do multiple players. But
- 6:19Speaker 2: I was surprised because you just heard so much about
- 6:24Speaker 2: Harbor and the safety man like Kyle Hamilton. We had
- 6:26Speaker 2: to hear that ad nauseum Caleb Downs Kyle Hamilton comparisons.
- 6:32Speaker 2: But I think that I mean, I think they did
- 6:34Speaker 2: well in the second round when they got a potential
- 6:38Speaker 2: first round pick in the in the in the cornerback
- 6:42Speaker 2: from Tennessee Colton Holt Hood from Tennessee six four to twenty.
- 6:48Speaker 2: They can't. I mean, let's face it, that defensive backfield
- 6:51Speaker 2: was pathetic last year and then they needed to boost
- 6:55Speaker 2: a boost that up. Again, we won't know until we
- 6:58Speaker 2: see these guys on the field come next September. But
- 7:02Speaker 2: I don't think anybody what the draft does as far
- 7:07Speaker 2: as selecting players. I don't think there was any reaches
- 7:11Speaker 2: for the Giants or Jets on during the first three rounds.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I mean I don't, I mean I can't. I can't say,
- 7:19Speaker 2: oh my god, what are they doing, you know, taking.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The Jets any rating actually so well obviously, and of course,
- 7:26Speaker 1: you know, for me, there's always that pressure to find
- 7:30Speaker 1: the next Joe Namath with the Jets. I mean, there's
- 7:33Speaker 1: always like who are they gonna draft? And I admittedly
- 7:36Speaker 1: ty Simpson did do a little you know, he didn't
- 7:39Speaker 1: meet up with the Jets. They had a nice little
- 7:41Speaker 1: what do they call it a workout whatever you call
- 7:43Speaker 1: it with the Jets.
- 7:44Speaker 2: A workout, and you know, an interview.
- 7:46Speaker 1: But I'm a little surprised that the Rams did pick
- 7:49Speaker 1: him because it almost signals that maybe the the Stafford
- 7:54Speaker 1: era is coming to an end soon. Is that what
- 7:57Speaker 1: this pick means, Louis?
- 7:59Speaker 2: It could be he got You got to look at
- 8:01Speaker 2: it this way. The Rams are playing for this, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 2: obviously they're going for the to win the title again
- 8:06Speaker 2: next year. Ironically, the Super Bowl is in so Far
- 8:10Speaker 2: Stadium last year, where the Rams won their last Super
- 8:13Speaker 2: Bowl four years ago. Uh, he's thirty eight years old.
- 8:17Speaker 2: He's you know, he has a wife and he has
- 8:20Speaker 2: uh at least three kids, and you know, he's not
- 8:26Speaker 2: maybe like Aaron Rodgers, who's we don't know if even
- 8:29Speaker 2: though there's a Aaron Rodgers said he got married last year,
- 8:32Speaker 2: we don't know if that's true or true or not.
- 8:34Speaker 2: We've never seen her and he has no he has
- 8:39Speaker 2: no kids, and I think this could.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Be night Drew Aller, I mean that was an interesting
- 8:46Speaker 1: pick for Pittsburgh.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I'm surprised Drew Aller uh got picked before
- 8:51Speaker 2: a couple of other guys. But uh, you know, he
- 8:54Speaker 2: has the measurables. He's big, he's strong.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Clearly, remember the end of the Franklin era, there was
- 9:02Speaker 1: his injury. I mean, that was really what I do.
- 9:04Speaker 1: There were a few other things that season, but the
- 9:06Speaker 1: Aller injury was sort of like the final straw. Then
- 9:09Speaker 1: they let Franklin go a week later. It was kind
- 9:11Speaker 1: of amazing how that all unfolded.
- 9:12Speaker 2: But you know, that was not a That was not
- 9:15Speaker 2: a good scene for Penn State team that had so
- 9:18Speaker 2: much talent on their roster. But uh, I was hoping
- 9:23Speaker 2: that the Jets would pick Carson Beck. I do have
- 9:25Speaker 2: an affection for Carson Beck. I think he has he
- 9:27Speaker 2: has a chance.
- 9:29Speaker 1: We'll see, he's got to be one of the oldest
- 9:32Speaker 1: drafted at twenty three. That's pretty amazing. It was a
- 9:35Speaker 1: very old uh.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I think in the CNI l ear we're going to
- 9:39Speaker 2: see some older guys than we then we sore in past.
- 9:44Speaker 1: To I love what he did with Georgia. You know,
- 9:46Speaker 1: he was just he was a He was quite a
- 9:48Speaker 1: player to watch, and even this year, he was quite
- 9:50Speaker 1: a player to watch.
- 9:51Speaker 2: One thing I like about the Jets picks, they all
- 9:53Speaker 2: played in big, big money games. Last year, they all
- 9:56Speaker 2: played on playoff team, so they they know what the
- 9:59Speaker 2: pressure is a little bit to play in those type
- 10:02Speaker 2: of games. Not that the pressure in the NFL and
- 10:06Speaker 2: college football is the same, but they know they played
- 10:10Speaker 2: in big time games. So you know, again, we won't
- 10:14Speaker 2: know until they until they get on the field. I
- 10:17Speaker 2: mean today the Jets have three picks in the fourth
- 10:21Speaker 2: round and two picks in the seventh round, and like
- 10:26Speaker 2: the Giants, I think, you know, they traded three picks
- 10:29Speaker 2: to get up to drift the kid from Notre Dame
- 10:32Speaker 2: the receiver. And you know it's funny.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I should have got a picture. I'm myself a Notre
- 10:37Speaker 1: Dame gear because we did end up getting a Notre
- 10:39Speaker 1: Dame pick, notre Dame player. After all, I was at
- 10:42Speaker 1: the draft party saying should I wear this? And I
- 10:44Speaker 1: was sure enough they picked I thought maybe Jeremiah, but
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I did too, Alex, and I actually thought there was
- 10:50Speaker 2: an outside chance that the Jets will playing possum and
- 10:53Speaker 2: that they might have picked Jeremiah of number two. I'm
- 10:59Speaker 2: surprised that Tennessee picked Tate, the wide receiver from Ohio
- 11:05Speaker 2: State at four and not RBL Reese or Sunny Styles.
- 11:09Speaker 2: That did surprise me. And then Reese falls into the
- 11:12Speaker 2: Giants slap apparently depending on who you believe and who
- 11:16Speaker 2: you read, that the Giants had Reese as their number
- 11:19Speaker 2: one overall pick, regardless of position of any of these
- 11:23Speaker 2: draftable players. So again, you know, it makes for good
- 11:27Speaker 2: talk like we're doing now. But until you get these
- 11:31Speaker 2: guys on the playing field, until you see if they
- 11:34Speaker 2: could fit the scheme and that Jets are going to
- 11:37Speaker 2: play three four next year, then we'll see if it happens. Hopefully,
- 11:42Speaker 2: as a Jet fan, David Bailey is the NFL defensive
- 11:47Speaker 2: rookie of the year, you know exactly, We'll see.
- 11:50Speaker 1: We'll have to see. By the way, I want to
- 11:51Speaker 1: do a plug for Fanatics because as you know, I'm
- 11:53Speaker 1: an affiliate sponsor with them and their affiliates on for me,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and I just released a link of the draft tat
- 12:00Speaker 1: that these guys wore after being drafted, so you can
- 12:02Speaker 1: own your own. In the many collection that I'm sure
- 12:06Speaker 1: you have others have of giants or jet skier, there's
- 12:09Speaker 1: always that headwear you can add from the draft. I
- 12:12Speaker 1: think it's kind of cool, and so I put it
- 12:14Speaker 1: on the link and you'll see that in the description below.
- 12:17Speaker 1: And I'm always grateful to be a partner with Fanatics
- 12:20Speaker 1: to provide these different things. It is cool from the
- 12:22Speaker 1: draft stage to your own head where collection, you know
- 12:24Speaker 1: at collection it is.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And the way the NFL did it. You know the
- 12:29Speaker 2: players who were there in Pittsburgh. You know, they get
- 12:33Speaker 2: they get their name cold, they walk down the hallway,
- 12:36Speaker 2: they stop at that mirror, get their hat on that
- 12:40Speaker 2: little desk or kiosk, whatever you want to call it,
- 12:43Speaker 2: and then walk out to the commissioner. It is. It
- 12:46Speaker 2: is pretty It is pretty cool the way the NFL.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And also look say what you want about Goodell, but
- 12:53Speaker 1: and I do miss the Saturday tradition of Draft Day
- 12:55Speaker 1: that was always fun, you know. And in late April
- 12:57Speaker 1: on a Saturday, you're watching the draft with friends or ever,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and I'd be Yanky stadium watching it. I think I
- 13:03Speaker 1: was there when they traded Manning, actually to trade him
- 13:06Speaker 1: for Manning actually that day. But anyway, he's now condended
- 13:10Speaker 1: to two hours and fifty three minutes, so that's pretty impressive.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I have to say. Yeah, no, I mean it was
- 13:16Speaker 2: too long at fifteen minutes between picks. Then they caught
- 13:19Speaker 2: it to ten. Now they cut it to eight. It did,
- 13:22Speaker 2: it did was brisk the other night. I did like it.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And these picks are coming in faster too, like there
- 13:27Speaker 1: are even before the clock's up, so there's no doubt. Interesting.
- 13:31Speaker 1: All right, Well, I just watched a little sports center
- 13:33Speaker 1: as we're talking here, and the I mean to me,
- 13:37Speaker 1: there are a couple of series that I'm looking at,
- 13:39Speaker 1: the wild Stars, the Ducks because of Crider versus McDavid,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and the Oilers. But I just saw Canadians winning a
- 13:47Speaker 1: home playoff game. Look, that's indean, Montreal's hungry. They haven't
- 13:51Speaker 1: had a home playoff game in a while. It's just
- 13:54Speaker 1: you could see how.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Hard I mean, they made the playoffs last year and
- 13:58Speaker 2: so and they did. Look, they lost Washington first round,
- 14:01Speaker 2: so they had the home playoff game. But the atmosphere
- 14:04Speaker 2: in Montreal, like you or going to a lutu, I assume, yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 2: is like is like none other. When it comes to
- 14:12Speaker 2: a big event, a big playoff game. You're you know,
- 14:16Speaker 2: you're one hot.
- 14:17Speaker 1: We talk about you know, and I only know Ni
- 14:18Speaker 1: Suzuki just because I've seen him play forever. Right, But
- 14:22Speaker 1: they sort of have a core up there too that
- 14:24Speaker 1: that may be running out of time also, right, so
- 14:27Speaker 1: they want to see this team win now.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Well maybe the fans do, but the team is young,
- 14:31Speaker 2: the team is going to be good for a long time.
- 14:35Speaker 2: And the kid has scored the game winning goal last night,
- 14:37Speaker 2: Lane Hudson, who I actually saw play live a couple
- 14:40Speaker 2: of years ago with Celebrini and that amazing Boston University
- 14:44Speaker 2: team that somehow did not win the national championship, which
- 14:47Speaker 2: goes to show you anything can happen in one game.
- 14:51Speaker 2: As we said over and over, he scored the winning goal.
- 14:54Speaker 2: The guy is a superstar. He will be on you know,
- 14:58Speaker 2: he could have been on the US Olympic team this year.
- 15:01Speaker 2: He definitely will be on the world Cup team in
- 15:04Speaker 2: February of twenty eight and their fourth line has been
- 15:08Speaker 2: tremendous for them and Cole Caufield hasn't scored a goal
- 15:12Speaker 2: in three in the first three games. It's the best
- 15:16Speaker 2: series so far. The Allison Minnesota is up there too.
- 15:23Speaker 2: It's been physical, it's been bloody. This I think is
- 15:28Speaker 2: getting This series between Tampa Bay and Montreal can go
- 15:31Speaker 2: seven and you know, we.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Gas the coaching too, Cooper is great and they still
- 15:37Speaker 1: have the vets on that.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Absolutely they know how to win and they have Azeleski
- 15:44Speaker 2: and Montreal has done a good job of like even
- 15:47Speaker 2: on that winning goal last night, of creating enough traffic
- 15:50Speaker 2: in front that lane. Hudson's ninety mile per hour blast
- 15:55Speaker 2: caught the upper corner of the net to Vasileski is right.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So it was a great game last night. It was.
- 16:03Speaker 2: It really was a physical It was a physical great game. Uh.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Saint Louis has done a great job as coach against
- 16:12Speaker 2: his former team that that he became famous.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Remember Martin San Luis was like a hero down in
- 16:17Speaker 1: Tampa for all those years.
- 16:18Speaker 2: But absolutely so. But I wanted to LSM. Minnesota has
- 16:23Speaker 2: been another great series that probably will go seven.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Well, then last night I'm watching the because they showed
- 16:31Speaker 1: some fight clips from the Ducks game, and I look
- 16:34Speaker 1: at the score and I said seven to four. I mean, uh,
- 16:37Speaker 1: you know, Edmonton has made it to Sandy Cup last
- 16:41Speaker 1: couple last few years. They just don't look like the
- 16:44Speaker 1: same team that made it through the Western Conference, right, So,
- 16:47Speaker 1: or maybe the Ducks are just that good? What do
- 16:49Speaker 1: you think?
- 16:50Speaker 2: Well, the Dutch obviously, you know they have Alex Klogne,
- 16:54Speaker 2: they have Trouba, they have Chris Crider as experienced guys,
- 16:59Speaker 2: but they the core of the team is so young.
- 17:04Speaker 2: And I watched a good portion of the game last night.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Edmonton has obviously a lot of top end offensive talent,
- 17:14Speaker 2: but playing high scoring games like they've had in the series.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Believe it or not, I believe I could be wrong
- 17:20Speaker 2: plays into the hands of Anaheim. They if Edmonton plays
- 17:25Speaker 2: more three to two games, more tight checking games, which
- 17:30Speaker 2: I know kno Block likes to do, and that's what
- 17:33Speaker 2: he did when he got there two years ago, which
- 17:37Speaker 2: got them in the Stanley Cup final. Remember, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 2: we look at some of the things that are going
- 17:41Speaker 2: on in baseball with the teams with their terrible records,
- 17:43Speaker 2: remember Edmonton was like two eleven and one, three and thirteen,
- 17:49Speaker 2: and you know, he said, oh, they're done for the year,
- 17:51Speaker 2: but he got them to change the way they play.
- 17:55Speaker 2: If they keep playing these high scoring games, I think
- 17:59Speaker 2: it plays into into Anaheim's hands. I really do. I
- 18:04Speaker 2: think I think Edmonton's gonna win a series. But yeah,
- 18:09Speaker 2: they're on, they're shaky, and uh, I'm gonna tell you
- 18:14Speaker 2: right now, Uh, they lose this series, they maybe lose
- 18:18Speaker 2: the next series as as well as no Block has
- 18:22Speaker 2: done for them and his in his two and a
- 18:24Speaker 2: half years as coach. Now Block will not be there
- 18:28Speaker 2: because McDavid's criticized him a little bit. Was talking about
- 18:32Speaker 2: how great it was to play for John Cooper at
- 18:34Speaker 2: the at the Olympics. There's something there, Alex.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Uh, now Block might be gone, and you know, McDavid speaks.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I'm sure the oilers listened so well.
- 18:44Speaker 2: They listen because remember, yeah, he did sign extension, but
- 18:47Speaker 2: it's only for two years and uh, you know, then
- 18:52Speaker 2: he'll be a free agent in his early thirties. And
- 18:55Speaker 2: come on, I don't want they don't want to lose him.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Mcdamid. Matthew's come across the boarder. I'd love to them
- 19:00Speaker 1: in the States. That would be uh, really, well.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I think you're gonna I think you have a better
- 19:04Speaker 2: chance of seeing Austin Austin Matthews across the border next year.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I think that. I think that's a real good chance
- 19:13Speaker 2: of happening.
- 19:13Speaker 1: That could happen. So we'll have to see and then,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know, the Carolina series I haven't only paid mention
- 19:18Speaker 1: attention to because they always seem to win these series.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not worried about them.
- 19:23Speaker 2: However, well, if they're first, they they frustrated Ottawa, who's
- 19:27Speaker 2: had chances to win the you know, the to win
- 19:29Speaker 2: these games, but they stifle you, they control the puck.
- 19:33Speaker 2: They're not gonna win. They're not winning like at Anaheim's
- 19:36Speaker 2: beating Edmonton seven to four, six to five. They're not
- 19:40Speaker 2: that's not the that's not the style of game they play.
- 19:44Speaker 2: And uh, obviously they're up three, three games to none
- 19:48Speaker 2: on Odawa. Ottawa was frustrated. I saw the postgame interviews
- 19:52Speaker 2: the other night. They were all frustrated. Maybe Ottawa will
- 19:56Speaker 2: win tonight, but I would say that's about it. You know, Carolina,
- 20:01Speaker 2: they just always played the same way.
- 20:04Speaker 1: And let's go up. So the other night I called
- 20:06Speaker 1: you because, say, Lou, they're playing in Canadian national anthem,
- 20:09Speaker 1: up in Canadian national anthem, up in Buffalo. What's that about?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Is in Buffalo United States team? And tell us why.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Maybe people listening or watching Buffalo Sabers playoff hockey or
- 20:21Speaker 1: hockey at all for the first time seeing that maybe
- 20:24Speaker 1: surprise and tell us why that is.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Well, back in nineteen seventy, Buffalo came into the league
- 20:32Speaker 2: along with Vancouver. They were the thirteenth and fourteenth teams
- 20:36Speaker 2: to come into the league after what they call the
- 20:38Speaker 2: Great Expansion of sixty seven when the league expanded from
- 20:41Speaker 2: six to twelve teams. Buffalo, being on the Canadian border,
- 20:47Speaker 2: and obviously hockey is the national sport of Canada, has
- 20:52Speaker 2: many many of their fans that come across the border
- 20:56Speaker 2: who attend Buffalo Saber games, And they started playing the
- 21:02Speaker 2: Canadian national anthem because they had so many customers who
- 21:07Speaker 2: are Saber fans who come from from southern Ontario. And
- 21:13Speaker 2: that's the reason they played the Canadian national anthem before
- 21:17Speaker 2: a Sabers home game, even if the opponent is not
- 21:21Speaker 2: a Canadian city. So like the other night, when they
- 21:24Speaker 2: were playing the Bruins in the playoff game. So that's
- 21:26Speaker 2: been going on for the last fifty three years.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Well there you go. See, you learn something every day.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And one other thing I will say is that night
- 21:35Speaker 1: I chose hot playoff hockey because I guess I missed
- 21:38Speaker 1: the intensity. I think I told you, and maybe I
- 21:41Speaker 1: said on air here in twenty twenty four when I
- 21:43Speaker 1: was recovering from my Gollstone issue. They thought I was
- 21:47Speaker 1: having something wrong because I was screaming at the TV
- 21:50Speaker 1: for when Krochek scored that goal against the Hurricanes. I'll
- 21:53Speaker 1: ever forget that. But I missed that intensity around here.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So maybe that's why I'm more drawn to that than
- 21:59Speaker 1: a Yankee. And look, I'm an avid baseball guy, but
- 22:02Speaker 1: I tuned into playoff hockey over Yankees Red Sox. What's
- 22:05Speaker 1: wrong with me? Louis?
- 22:07Speaker 2: Well, again, we know, let's say baseball is a marathon.
- 22:10Speaker 2: So they're still five and a half months to go,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and there is nothing like playoff hockey. And it's a
- 22:17Speaker 2: great it's a great tool.
- 22:20Speaker 1: It's the only team in New York State in this thing,
- 22:22Speaker 1: so you got to root for them a little bit,
- 22:24Speaker 1: you know.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Well, I didn't think. I'm rooting for them too. I
- 22:28Speaker 2: didn't think they were going to win. It's only two
- 22:31Speaker 2: to one. They did a great job the other night,
- 22:34Speaker 2: playing their first row game in fifteen years in the playoffs. Uh,
- 22:38Speaker 2: in a very tough building, and uh, you know they
- 22:41Speaker 2: won three to one, and that that's another series that
- 22:44Speaker 2: might go seven. I would love to see Buffalo advance.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I think so.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And especially for Taatee Thompson, who got the gold with
- 22:51Speaker 1: the Team USA. You want to see him do what?
- 22:53Speaker 2: Look?
- 22:54Speaker 1: What?
- 22:54Speaker 2: What?
- 22:55Speaker 1: What this US hockey team did? Is it highlighted guys
- 22:58Speaker 1: You may not know where they're at, right, so, Alex,
- 23:01Speaker 1: they were expected for Arenas. Oh, this guy's here, this
- 23:04Speaker 1: guy's here. I just it's it's a pretty cool thing,
- 23:06Speaker 1: all right. I don't really want to talk baseball because
- 23:09Speaker 1: that's not really on my mind. I mean, it's a
- 23:12Speaker 1: long season, but what's on my mind is definitely Game four.
- 23:16Speaker 1: So I go from the draft party to the nixt
- 23:18Speaker 1: watch party and in a manner of I get sixty
- 23:21Speaker 1: seconds the Mets blue and lead the Knicks Tay lose
- 23:25Speaker 1: the lead, and it's like it was a crazy night Thursday.
- 23:29Speaker 1: But to walk from the draft party hustin yards over
- 23:31Speaker 1: to the watch party of the garden. This is New
- 23:33Speaker 1: York City we're talking about, Louis. Okay, this is what
- 23:35Speaker 1: happens in New York. You go from one sports thing
- 23:38Speaker 1: to the next.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Well that's why. Hey, sometimes I say New York has
- 23:43Speaker 2: too many sports teams, but because you know, we have
- 23:49Speaker 2: too by the way I work.
- 23:50Speaker 1: There were a lot of guys in big blue shirts
- 23:52Speaker 1: over watching the Knicks. I mean, this is how passionate
- 23:55Speaker 1: we are about the city. But in those few seconds
- 23:58Speaker 1: that the game was all that, the game was winding down,
- 24:01Speaker 1: and I kind of didn't want to watch the final
- 24:02Speaker 1: play because I had a feeling the Hawks are.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Gonna win it.
- 24:06Speaker 1: First of all, you can't go down ten plus and
- 24:08Speaker 1: expect to win that game in the fourth quarter. And again,
- 24:12Speaker 1: love Brunson, but he's making that arid shot again and
- 24:15Speaker 1: I don't understand why. And you talk about there's something there.
- 24:21Speaker 1: He was chirping with Mike Brown a little bit, his
- 24:23Speaker 1: own coach, and it's like, all right, something's not right
- 24:26Speaker 1: with this locker room. If the captain is, you know,
- 24:30Speaker 1: going back and forth with his head coach, something's not
- 24:32Speaker 1: right there. Louis and if they lose the series or
- 24:35Speaker 1: don't go anything, even if they win their championship, I
- 24:38Speaker 1: don't know. I don't think Mike Brown's the answer, though,
- 24:39Speaker 1: That's what I'm trying to say.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Well, again, this is how I look at it. The
- 24:51Speaker 2: Knicks did not have a good regular season. I mean, yeah,
- 24:54Speaker 2: I know they won fifty two to fifty three games,
- 24:55Speaker 2: whether it was. But again, as I said to you,
- 24:58Speaker 2: you can't look at what happened in the NBA regular
- 25:04Speaker 2: season the last couple of years because the NBA is
- 25:06Speaker 2: such a different league than it used to be, with
- 25:12Speaker 2: guys not playing, sitting out guys. And I really believe
- 25:17Speaker 2: that lais a fair ad to during the regular season
- 25:20Speaker 2: affects affects you when you come to playing these playoffs,
- 25:26Speaker 2: and it seems like that has caught the Knicks. I
- 25:29Speaker 2: still think they're gonna win the series. I do, but
- 25:35Speaker 2: a couple of things Atlanta has. Atlanta has rebuilt their
- 25:40Speaker 2: team through young, athletic, highly skilled players. Yes, Atlanta does
- 25:51Speaker 2: not have the experience. You know, we saw that the
- 25:54Speaker 2: other night when they were blowing it. They blew the
- 25:55Speaker 2: eighteen point lead, but they did come back because the
- 25:58Speaker 2: one guy would experience Colum, who did not have a
- 26:01Speaker 2: great game the other night, was still able to hit
- 26:03Speaker 2: that last shot. The Knicks aren't very athletic, Alex, they
- 26:09Speaker 2: really aren't. And everybody wants to put the blame on
- 26:12Speaker 2: Carl Anthony Towns. Well you can if you want, if
- 26:15Speaker 2: that's what you want to do. But here's a guy
- 26:17Speaker 2: who's consistently you know what, two years in a row.
- 26:21Speaker 2: He's thirteen moll NBA.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And some you know, Obi was really a difference maker
- 26:26Speaker 1: of the last two playoff playoffs for the Knicks, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: he's just not He's not been the Obie I'm used
- 26:33Speaker 1: to seeing, you know. I don't know what happened there,
- 26:35Speaker 1: but it's just he's he's he's not shining like he
- 26:38Speaker 1: did the last Or am I seeing it wrong?
- 26:41Speaker 2: No, I don't think you are. I really, I really,
- 26:45Speaker 2: I really don't think. I really don't think you are Alex.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Again like he was, he was a silent killer, right,
- 26:54Speaker 1: so he'd be heart Brunson and Towns.
- 26:57Speaker 2: But then I remember he was on a toront Raptors
- 27:00Speaker 2: team that went to the finals.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And one, and look, I thought that trade worked out
- 27:05Speaker 1: in the long run for our It did.
- 27:07Speaker 2: It would absolutely it did, no doubt about it. But
- 27:11Speaker 2: the Knicks won that trade. The Knicks won the Karl
- 27:14Speaker 2: Anthony Towns trade.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Oh bye, you know, by by measure. But there's no
- 27:19Speaker 1: reason this team should have blown a twelve point lead
- 27:22Speaker 1: and should be down with this game really being well,
- 27:25Speaker 1: if they don't win it, I think they come home
- 27:28Speaker 1: and win. But you have to win in Atlanta. You
- 27:29Speaker 1: have to win at least one of these. You just
- 27:31Speaker 1: you just cannot go to Atlanta and lose to it.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Just it wouldn't be good, all right, And then you
- 27:37Speaker 1: said something interesting if I'm going to share with us
- 27:39Speaker 1: on air today, but you think they might clean house though,
- 27:42Speaker 1: if things go really south here.
- 27:45Speaker 2: If if by some chance they lose this series. Yeah,
- 27:48Speaker 2: I think so. I mean they might panic, And by panic,
- 27:53Speaker 2: I mean they might get Giannis. And Yannis is better
- 27:57Speaker 2: than anybody that Knicks have now, but jannest is thirty one,
- 28:01Speaker 2: he's had these leg injuries. It could be another. You know,
- 28:09Speaker 2: the Nicks picked up me, even even when they picked
- 28:11Speaker 2: up Carmelo anything. I know they won the division one year,
- 28:14Speaker 2: but I don't know if that's going to get that
- 28:17Speaker 2: it got's going to get them there, Alex, I don't
- 28:19Speaker 2: if they if they get you honest, if they break
- 28:21Speaker 2: up the team, look nobody, and you can pull out
- 28:25Speaker 2: you can pull out the tape from when in the
- 28:29Speaker 2: Brooklyn Nets my former employer made the trade, the five
- 28:34Speaker 2: for one trade, the five picks for mckel Bridges. I said,
- 28:37Speaker 2: how could you trade your best player to your number
- 28:41Speaker 2: one rival, not only on the court, but for marketing purposes,
- 28:45Speaker 2: for business purposes. It looks like it looks like a
- 28:50Speaker 2: Sean Mark's is going to have the last laugh on
- 28:53Speaker 2: me and on everybody else because he Bridges has not
- 29:00Speaker 2: been that fit that piece that they were going to
- 29:03Speaker 2: fit in right that he has not been. He hasn't
- 29:06Speaker 2: been that guy. I mean he didn't score the other night.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I mean his efficiency is and he was an efficient
- 29:17Speaker 2: player again. And you know that there was a little
- 29:22Speaker 2: tampering there by, you know, the villaneuver mafia on the
- 29:26Speaker 2: Knicks to get him there, and he could be gone.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I mean, like I said, and if the Nets over
- 29:37Speaker 2: who still have four draft picks left, then you can't.
- 29:40Speaker 2: They don't have one this year from the Knicks because
- 29:42Speaker 2: the old Ted Steppien rule Ted Steppian in the early
- 29:46Speaker 2: and mid seventies owner to Cleveland Cavaliers, would trade his
- 29:49Speaker 2: number one pick every year, and the Cavaliers still going nowhere.
- 29:53Speaker 2: So the league made a rule, it's called a Ted
- 29:56Speaker 2: Stepien rule, that you can't trade your number one pick
- 29:59Speaker 2: to you in a row. So this year the Knicks
- 30:02Speaker 2: do have their own pick, but next year the Nets
- 30:04Speaker 2: have it. Then two years later the Nets halfened in
- 30:07Speaker 2: twenty seven, uh, in twenty nine, in thirty one, thirty three.
- 30:14Speaker 2: So if the Knick, if the Net, if the Knicks
- 30:17Speaker 2: go deep south and their record is so bad one
- 30:20Speaker 2: of these years and uh, you know, the eleven year old,
- 30:24Speaker 2: the kid who's eleven year old now is gonna be
- 30:27Speaker 2: drafted number one in seven years, five or seven years
- 30:31Speaker 2: by the Nets. And that's a super player. The media
- 30:34Speaker 2: will never let the Knicks forget that. So they took
- 30:37Speaker 2: a big chance. And again, is it is it gonna
- 30:41Speaker 2: blow up in their face? Not yet. I can't say
- 30:44Speaker 2: it's gonna blow up's.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Been having a really good series. I mean, he's making
- 30:48Speaker 1: those shots and I just I love watching him pull
- 30:50Speaker 1: up for the three, and it just it's pretty amazing
- 30:53Speaker 1: to watch his performance this year. He's really stepped up,
- 30:56Speaker 1: but we'll have to see. Now another city I'm thinking
- 30:58Speaker 1: of because we didn't talk about it in the hockey sect,
- 31:00Speaker 1: but down the Turnpike, Philly, you have the Sixers last night,
- 31:06Speaker 1: and look, I'm proud of Jason Tatum. I know he's
- 31:08Speaker 1: on the other team. I shouldn't say that, but that
- 31:10Speaker 1: kid's made it a recovery in less than a year,
- 31:13Speaker 1: in less than a year, and wins the game last
- 31:15Speaker 1: night like this. It's quite a story if you think
- 31:18Speaker 1: about it. And then you've got tonight the Flyers. I mean,
- 31:22Speaker 1: I like what the Philly sports is jumping. I also
- 31:26Speaker 1: have loved the city, so I have a fondness for
- 31:28Speaker 1: the city as well. But it is kind of cool.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I think that Flyers love a better chances this postseason
- 31:32Speaker 1: than the Sixers, but we'll see.
- 31:35Speaker 2: I like the city too. It's a big it's a
- 31:37Speaker 2: big sports town. I know the fans are lunatics and
- 31:42Speaker 2: not in the p I say that in a negative way,
- 31:44Speaker 2: not a positive way. But their fans are passionate. It's
- 31:47Speaker 2: a passionate sports town. I thought after I was in
- 31:54Speaker 2: May twelfth when Tatum ripped his achilles in that seriously
- 31:57Speaker 2: incidents I thought that this year the Celtics might be
- 32:00Speaker 2: in the plan. If you told me that the Knicks
- 32:03Speaker 2: were going to be behind the Celtics in the regular season,
- 32:06Speaker 2: I would have taken I would have taken that bet
- 32:09Speaker 2: and say, there's no way that's happening. But they did.
- 32:12Speaker 2: And uh, yes, they've played great. But the one thing
- 32:15Speaker 2: that could still bite the Celtics and the butt and
- 32:19Speaker 2: he saw it. Uh when they lost Game two to
- 32:22Speaker 2: the Sixers again, the same thing. What happened when they
- 32:25Speaker 2: blew those two twenty point leads in Game one and
- 32:29Speaker 2: Game two against the Knicks last year. They they shouldn't.
- 32:33Speaker 2: They should have won both those games. They still came
- 32:35Speaker 2: down early in the shot clock, taking one three point
- 32:40Speaker 2: attempt after another. That's what happens to them the other
- 32:42Speaker 2: night against Philly in Game two. So that's where I
- 32:45Speaker 2: don't trust the Celtics style of play. But everything else
- 32:49Speaker 2: I agree with you. Tatum is remarkable coming back from
- 32:52Speaker 2: his injury this year, and uh.
- 32:57Speaker 1: And look Brown done a great job too. I mean
- 33:00Speaker 1: that they have a nice support system for that Celtics team.
- 33:04Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it.
- 33:05Speaker 2: So yeah, no, I mean Brown has had an MVP
- 33:09Speaker 2: type year for the Celtics, there's no doubt about it,
- 33:12Speaker 2: so they'll win the series. The Sixers have some nice
- 33:17Speaker 2: young players. I don't know why Joel Beid's not playing.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I mean, he had his appendix two weeks ago. I mean,
- 33:23Speaker 2: we've seen baseball players come back six seven days after
- 33:26Speaker 2: having appendicitis, a removal, come back, and too many sports
- 33:34Speaker 2: to follow, but I really I guess the Lakers on.
- 33:37Speaker 1: The West was the only one. I'm interested to see
- 33:39Speaker 1: how donc if he comes back, how he responds on that.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I mean, there's just so much going on. But I
- 33:44Speaker 1: want to ask you this for an NBA executive for
- 33:46Speaker 1: twenty eight years perspective, wasn't the playoffs so much more
- 33:50Speaker 1: compact when you were in the league Blue? I feel
- 33:52Speaker 1: like it's so spread out now it's ridiculous.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Well, the first round was always spread out, even when
- 33:57Speaker 2: I was even when the next we're going to the finals,
- 34:00Speaker 2: uh and and the conference semifinals. You know, those years,
- 34:05Speaker 2: the first round was spread out. It gets more compact
- 34:08Speaker 2: after round one because there's less teams and uh now,
- 34:13Speaker 2: especially with these additional networks that the games are on,
- 34:18Speaker 2: they're going to they're going to spread them out. I
- 34:20Speaker 2: mean all week the games have been on a Prime
- 34:23Speaker 2: video with the exception of Sunday and Monday when they
- 34:26Speaker 2: were on NBC. And I think today there's a double
- 34:29Speaker 2: header on NBC in the afternoon, and I think Prime
- 34:32Speaker 2: video takes over at at night. It's too I mean, obviously,
- 34:38Speaker 2: I know it's all about the money. You know, I
- 34:40Speaker 2: was when I was with the Nets, it was all
- 34:43Speaker 2: about producing revenue. That was my job. But you know
- 34:48Speaker 2: it was we only had NBC and d n T
- 34:53Speaker 2: and then at the end, ABC had uh TNT. So
- 34:57Speaker 2: now you have you know, you have Prime Video.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Oh you have ABC, Slash, ESPN, you have NBC and
- 35:05Speaker 3: Peacock and you know, it's it's hard to keep up
- 35:09Speaker 3: with Alex even for the most diehard fan.
- 35:12Speaker 1: That's why I'm like, let me pick the series and
- 35:14Speaker 1: then I'll talk a little about the rest. So I'll
- 35:16Speaker 1: let me pick a couple serious to follow, and then
- 35:17Speaker 1: he'll be filling the rest. Because Olahmacy looks like they
- 35:20Speaker 1: could be a repeat though, I mean, that's the other
- 35:22Speaker 1: storyline going.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say so unless they have major injuries.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I can't see them losing four out of seven. But uh,
- 35:32Speaker 2: the Lakers have done a great job, and I know
- 35:34Speaker 2: a lot of there's been a lot of Laker criticism
- 35:36Speaker 2: even in this regular season, which, as we said, we
- 35:41Speaker 2: don't know what the gates from the regular season. But
- 35:46Speaker 2: you gotta give it to Lebron. You know, on on
- 35:49Speaker 2: the court, Lebron is spectacle. I don't believe. I don't
- 35:54Speaker 2: agree with some of his off the court statements, but
- 35:57Speaker 2: that's neither.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Last night, he's complaining against eating a foul call after
- 36:02Speaker 1: that miss three or whatever.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I saw that on look. But the guy, Alex, the
- 36:07Speaker 2: guy is just not good. The guy is spectacular. I mean,
- 36:13Speaker 2: they're down Doncic, they're down Austin Reeves, and they're up
- 36:17Speaker 2: three three nothing. Yes, I know, Durant missed two of
- 36:19Speaker 2: the three games, so that leveled out the playing field
- 36:22Speaker 2: a little bit. But when they were down three, you know,
- 36:25Speaker 2: with two minutes to go or minute twenty to go,
- 36:27Speaker 2: he hit that three from uh in front of the
- 36:31Speaker 2: bench with two rockets flying in his face. I mean,
- 36:35Speaker 2: Jordan's the best player of all time, still is, but
- 36:42Speaker 2: if you can arguably say he's as good as anybody
- 36:45Speaker 2: after Jordan, I mean, really, I mean, the guys, the
- 36:49Speaker 2: guy's will to win. His competitive spirit is one of
- 36:55Speaker 2: the It's up there with any athlete in any sport,
- 37:00Speaker 2: you know. And I and believe me, I am never
- 37:02Speaker 2: reading for the Los Angeles Lakers. I'm just as I
- 37:05Speaker 2: always tell you on this podcast, You'll always get a realist,
- 37:07Speaker 2: a realistic, fair and balanced analysis, whether I root for
- 37:14Speaker 2: a team or not. So well, he's remarkable. He's been remarkable,
- 37:20Speaker 2: And credit to Reddick, to JJ Reddick, who's been criticized,
- 37:23Speaker 2: gotta give him a little credit. He's in a tough situation.
- 37:26Speaker 2: It's tough to coach the Lakers.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Absolutely, and you know they're about as tough of media
- 37:30Speaker 1: town as this one is.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Absolutely all right.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Uh, but the Flyers Penguins haven't gotten to that one.
- 37:36Speaker 1: And that's the one I'm really intrigued in because Flyers
- 37:39Speaker 1: could really wipe out the Penguins tonight. First of all,
- 37:44Speaker 1: five hundred and twenty five dollars just to get into
- 37:46Speaker 1: the building is just flyer hockey's back. And I don't
- 37:50Speaker 1: if you know this, but when I was a kid,
- 37:51Speaker 1: I used to wear a lot more Flyers gire than
- 37:53Speaker 1: I admit, and I just liked the callers back in
- 37:55Speaker 1: the day. But they also had some good in second grade.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I was obsessed with Eric glendaw And and Leclaire and
- 38:03Speaker 1: Keith Primo. I mean, all these guys all good players, buddy,
- 38:07Speaker 1: all these guys I watched growing up. I mean I
- 38:10Speaker 1: was a flyer guy a little bit, but I wouldn't
- 38:12Speaker 1: tell anybody in New York that. And now back now
- 38:16Speaker 1: they're back to being good again. And it's been a
- 38:19Speaker 1: little while. Last time I remember them was just being
- 38:22Speaker 1: really good was when they faced the black Hawks in
- 38:23Speaker 1: twenty ten. But here they are, here, they are here.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Here are two teams. Pittsburgh hadn't made the playoffs. They
- 38:31Speaker 2: had gone three straight years without being in the playoffs,
- 38:34Speaker 2: and Philadelphia had gone five straight years without being in
- 38:37Speaker 2: the playoffs. Pittsburgh had has had a had a terrific
- 38:41Speaker 2: regular season from day one, and we've talked about it.
- 38:44Speaker 2: They were supposed to go in the tank. They were
- 38:46Speaker 2: going to get rid of Crosby, they were gonna get
- 38:48Speaker 2: rid of malk and they were gonna get rid of
- 38:49Speaker 2: the tang you know, all these guys at the trade
- 38:54Speaker 2: deadline and before the trade deadline, Well they kept them
- 38:56Speaker 2: all and they were consistent all year. They were good
- 38:59Speaker 2: all season. They had no they had no dead periods
- 39:04Speaker 2: during the season, and they made the playoffs. They beat
- 39:07Speaker 2: the Islands out, you know, the Islanders, and then were tied, uh,
- 39:10Speaker 2: you know for the second and third spot where you know,
- 39:12Speaker 2: with a couple of weeks to go, and they actually
- 39:15Speaker 2: came in and they really started the Islanders on that
- 39:18Speaker 2: the last week and a half when they were down
- 39:21Speaker 2: three to one, they scored a short handed goal and
- 39:23Speaker 2: they end up scoring seven straight goals and basically destroyed
- 39:26Speaker 2: the Islander psyche. But they they've been good now. The
- 39:29Speaker 2: Flyers have a lot of good young talent, a lot
- 39:32Speaker 2: but they were down nine points with five weeks to go,
- 39:35Speaker 2: and nobody figured that they could make up those nine points.
- 39:39Speaker 2: They did, and then Porta Montone loses the National semi
- 39:46Speaker 2: final playing for Michigan loses the Frozen Four. The National semifinal.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Flyers signed him right away. They put they put the
- 39:54Speaker 2: kid on the power play. The kid's been remarkable. He's
- 39:57Speaker 2: nineteen years old. Porter Montone is been remarkable for them.
- 40:00Speaker 2: He's been one of their difference makers. And they're gonna
- 40:06Speaker 2: win the series. I thought they were gonna win the
- 40:07Speaker 2: series going in because the way they were playing and
- 40:12Speaker 2: just how they're they're they're tough, they're fast, they're big.
- 40:20Speaker 2: I mean, they're gonna win. Obviously they're not. They're not
- 40:23Speaker 2: losing four in a row. Maybe Pittsburgh will win tonight,
- 40:25Speaker 2: but then the Flyers aren't losing four in a row.
- 40:28Speaker 1: And then because I don't know if the road stops
- 40:31Speaker 1: here for them or not, I mean.
- 40:33Speaker 2: I don't know if it does either, Alex, they they
- 40:35Speaker 2: can go to the conference finals.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Yeah, the Hurricanes are always formidable, and as I said
- 40:40Speaker 1: the other day that I said on the air, I
- 40:41Speaker 1: think it's at off air. It'd be like an Eastern
- 40:43Speaker 1: Corridor sweep for the Hurricanes. They could beat the Flyers. Also,
- 40:48Speaker 1: they've done the Devils the Rangers.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Like they have.
- 40:53Speaker 1: And I think the Bruins at one point I thought
- 40:55Speaker 1: they beat them at one of those series too, but
- 40:57Speaker 1: they did.
- 40:57Speaker 2: I think it was they beat It was a seven game.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I think it was a Gamer a couple of years back.
- 41:02Speaker 2: But the Flyers have done a great job. They really have.
- 41:05Speaker 2: And you know, we talk about these coaches in the NHL,
- 41:08Speaker 2: how they how they just more more in the NHL
- 41:11Speaker 2: than any league, how they recycle these coaches. Tacket gets
- 41:14Speaker 2: fired in Pittsburgh, I gets it, gets gets fired in Vancouver.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Uh he was, he was there when Uh you know
- 41:21Speaker 2: the J. T. Miller Elias Peterson, we hate each other,
- 41:25Speaker 2: destroyed the locker room. He gets he goes to he
- 41:28Speaker 2: goes to Philly. Now, Uh, he's at Philly and he's
- 41:32Speaker 2: done a good job with these young guys. And uh,
- 41:37Speaker 2: the n the NHL coaching carousel is like none other.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Only the English Premier League fires their coaches and recycles
- 41:47Speaker 2: their coaches more than than the NHL. But I like
- 41:52Speaker 2: the Flyer and believe me, I am no Flyers fan.
- 41:55Speaker 2: They're probably one of my least favorite NHL teams. But
- 41:57Speaker 2: again fair and balanced on this podcast. As you know
- 42:01Speaker 2: they they have done a hell of a job. Is great.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Owen Tipping has been a great captain.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Uh.
- 42:10Speaker 2: I like the fly as I do. I think I
- 42:11Speaker 2: think they're gonna give after the series, They're going to
- 42:15Speaker 2: give Carolina a big tussle. I really do.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Maybe seven, we'll see, all right. One last thing, Louis,
- 42:21Speaker 1: we got to give our credit to friend David German,
- 42:24Speaker 1: who wanted us to keep come the convo going on
- 42:27Speaker 1: the Rangers and Knicks being less than uh, less than iconic. Look,
- 42:33Speaker 1: I didn't know the numbers that he was telling us,
- 42:35Speaker 1: but uh maybe we maybe one utter a couple. Look,
- 42:39Speaker 1: two championships for both of them, well three of them,
- 42:41Speaker 1: I guess combined, but two of them since the seventies.
- 42:45Speaker 2: It's just well when out, when out, going deeply into them.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Everything that Dave sent us in that in that correspondence,
- 42:56Speaker 2: in that email, he was I mean, he was totally accurate.
- 42:59Speaker 2: And the funny thing, you know, before we had a
- 43:01Speaker 2: little technical difficulties and got cut off. You know, we
- 43:06Speaker 2: talked about the Rangers one championship in eighty six years. Well,
- 43:11Speaker 2: the New York Knickson is the Uh they came into
- 43:13Speaker 2: existence in nineteen forty six and uh you know that's
- 43:18Speaker 2: even before I was born. Uh, they've only won if
- 43:23Speaker 2: they don't do it this year. And I'm not very
- 43:26Speaker 2: I'm not gonna bury them. Yet. They lived on two
- 43:30Speaker 2: championships in eighty one years. And remember, Alex, when I
- 43:34Speaker 2: started watching the NBA, there was only nine teams. There
- 43:38Speaker 2: was only nine teams, So it's not like thirty thirty
- 43:41Speaker 2: two in some of these leagues.
- 43:44Speaker 1: He makes a really good point in East ruler for
- 43:47Speaker 1: New Jersey. The Devil's had home ice advantage one hundred.
- 43:50Speaker 1: That arena was rocking every game. I remember they did
- 43:54Speaker 1: the post the little Stanley Cup parades around the arena itself.
- 43:58Speaker 1: I mean, look New Jersey East Rutherbird. That was a
- 44:02Speaker 1: great spot for hockey two back in the day.
- 44:04Speaker 2: But it was a great building for hockey.
- 44:06Speaker 1: But I gotta say this one line, this is the
- 44:08Speaker 1: best light he said, he wrote. It has been fifty
- 44:10Speaker 1: three years. The next last one in NBA Championship, and
- 44:13Speaker 1: with the exception of the two seasons Michael Jordan played baseball,
- 44:17Speaker 1: they have never been a series with a title.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I guess. Well, even that one year that Jordan played
- 44:24Speaker 2: baseball and they beat the Bulls on a controversial game
- 44:28Speaker 2: five foul ball that was called against the Bulls, and
- 44:31Speaker 2: Youbert Davis had three foul shots. They couldn't beat the
- 44:36Speaker 2: Bulls on the road. They won, They beat them four
- 44:40Speaker 2: games to three, and they won all four games at
- 44:43Speaker 2: the Garden. And that was without Jordan. And uh, like
- 44:48Speaker 2: I said, everything they put in that that email, he
- 44:51Speaker 2: was one accurate.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Sorry Will Lou on that note, I don't even want
- 44:58Speaker 1: to talk baseball just because I'm not in the moon today.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I really gotta no, no, we got we got all
- 45:03Speaker 2: summer to talk about.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Our focus should be on what's happening tonight, because if
- 45:06Speaker 1: the Knicks lose, and I'll be at the Garden at
- 45:08Speaker 1: the watch party. If the Knicks lose, we know the
- 45:13Speaker 1: airwaves are gonna be fired up to call for Brown's
- 45:15Speaker 1: firing even before the series is over.
- 45:18Speaker 2: So yeah, let's look at it this way and I
- 45:21Speaker 2: will let you go. If they're losing it down three
- 45:24Speaker 2: to one, the pressure switches a little bit. Yes, there's
- 45:29Speaker 2: pressure on the Knicks. They can't lose four games to one.
- 45:32Speaker 2: But the pressure switches a little bit because now Atlanta,
- 45:35Speaker 2: a young Atlanta team is going to say, oh my god,
- 45:37Speaker 2: we really have a chance to win this series. So
- 45:40Speaker 2: they go to the Garden Game five. The Knicks will
- 45:44Speaker 2: be favorite to win Game five. They probably would win
- 45:47Speaker 2: Game five. Then they gotta go to Atlanta. And even
- 45:51Speaker 2: though Knicks are down in the series, the pressure is
- 45:53Speaker 2: gonna be on Atlanta. If we don't win tonight in Atlanta,
- 45:56Speaker 2: we're gonna have to play Game seven at the Garden. Yes,
- 45:59Speaker 2: we know about the Knicks, and winning at won't big
- 46:01Speaker 2: games at home, we can go. There's a litany of them,
- 46:04Speaker 2: but they still I still would rather have the home
- 46:07Speaker 2: court advantage in Game seven, and a young Atlanta team
- 46:11Speaker 2: might fall apart. So even if the Knicks lose tonight,
- 46:14Speaker 2: I'm not saying that they're done for sure, but uh,
- 46:19Speaker 2: it would be better they win tonight if oh go
- 46:22Speaker 2: down three to one, of course.
- 46:24Speaker 1: All right, Louis, Well on that note, we'll see what happens.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Big days sports ahead, and then next week's the Kentucky Derby.
- 46:30Speaker 1: How do we get here to May already? I don't
- 46:32Speaker 1: really know how.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it's time. Please slow down a little bit
- 46:38Speaker 2: and enjoy.
- 46:38Speaker 1: You don't have to get the Mets added because everybody's
- 46:41Speaker 1: postponed up here until tomorrow, so you could rest. So
- 46:44Speaker 1: all eyes on the Knicks for sure.
- 46:47Speaker 2: All right, Alex, thank you so much. I appreciate it
- 46:50Speaker 2: as always, love being on Torminello's take with the great
- 46:53Speaker 2: Alex Garrett.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Think you were joining us at one Look up, Alex Media.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Talk to you soon, Louis, Thank you, buddy,
