- 0:00Speaker 1: Two and I five. It's the Erica Show. It is an
- 0:02Speaker 1: honor to sit down with Tara Williamson, the founder of
- 0:05Speaker 1: Pink Ink tattoo in her son Alex. She is a survivor,
- 0:08Speaker 1: a thriver, just one the remarkable Women for CBS seventeen
- 0:12Speaker 1: and made it all the way to Jennifer Hudson's show
- 0:14Speaker 1: on Monday where she was recognized as one of the
- 0:17Speaker 1: five women in our country doing incredible things. And Tara
- 0:21Speaker 1: is not only a breast cancer survivor, but she is
- 0:24Speaker 1: making a difference as a global leader for Aerola tattooing
- 0:28Speaker 1: across the globe. Tara, tell us a little bit about
- 0:30Speaker 1: your story.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Well, first, thank you for having me here, thank you
- 0:33Speaker 2: for having both of us here.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Sally.
- 0:35Speaker 2: In the beginning, you know, I was thirty nine years old,
- 0:37Speaker 2: just living my life and I was diagnosed with breast
- 0:39Speaker 2: cancer with no family history. Thank god, I had a
- 0:42Speaker 2: great doctor that said let's do a mammogram, and that's
- 0:44Speaker 2: when kind of everything just flipped upside down. I had
- 0:47Speaker 2: a lot of surgeries and then the reconstruction part. Well,
- 0:51Speaker 2: at the end, my plastic surgeon said, hey, what about
- 0:54Speaker 2: you know, Aerola tattooing and I was floored, like, oh
- 0:57Speaker 2: my gosh, what is this about. Yeah, I need to
- 0:59Speaker 2: meet this expert. And back in twenty thirteen, there just
- 1:03Speaker 2: really wasn't an expert. There were a couple of traditional
- 1:05Speaker 2: tattoo artists and they did great work, but that just
- 1:07Speaker 2: was not the fit for me. Like this was so special.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I wanted it to be special, and I didn't have
- 1:13Speaker 2: that option. So I ended up having the nurse do
- 1:15Speaker 2: it who had been trained, you know, two three times,
- 1:18Speaker 2: And it's unacceptable. It should have been just part of
- 1:21Speaker 2: the treatment process. You get diagnosed, here's your treatment. At
- 1:24Speaker 2: the end of it, you're going to have a fabulous,
- 1:26Speaker 2: you know, outcome. Because this is what we can do,
- 1:28Speaker 2: and that is just how it should be. That should
- 1:30Speaker 2: be the standard, and it wasn't, so I'm making it
- 1:32Speaker 2: the standard. I left my nursing career in twenty fourteen
- 1:35Speaker 2: founded Pinkink Tattoo, and that is where women and men
- 1:41Speaker 2: can come and you know what, they have their voice heard,
- 1:43Speaker 2: they can choose their color, their size, their music, whatever
- 1:46Speaker 2: they want the people in the room with them because
- 1:49Speaker 2: it's all about them and that's how it should be.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Like it's not another procedure it's the most important part
- 1:54Speaker 2: at the end of your breast cancer journey and for
- 1:58Speaker 2: a lot of women.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Tarallams and it's the air show making a difference, a
