Transcript
- 0:51Speaker 1: A Hey, y'all, welcome this week's show.
- 1:02Speaker 2: We will pick up where we left off last say,
- 1:05and the questioner in radio replies a modernist and atheist
- 1:11and agnostic is questioning the priests, trying to make them
- 1:16justify Catholic teaching in regard to what was in the thirties.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Modern science.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And he asked, did God really take a rib from
- 1:28Adam and make a woman there from? And they answer,
- 1:33we're bound to believe that Eve was formed from Adam.
- 1:35It is revealed doctrine that God made of one all
- 1:39mankind at Sex seventeen twenty six. For the man is
- 1:45not of the woman, but the woman of the man
- 1:47First Corinthians eleven eight. Nor has reason anything to say
- 1:52the contrary. It is easy for God to make a
- 1:55woman that way, as to make man Adam from the
- 1:59earth or from nothing.
- 2:03Speaker 1: He goes on.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Besides Adam and Eve, we read only of Cain and Abel,
- 2:07whom did Cain marry? And they answer, your knowledge is inadequate.
- 2:11Had you read on, you would have seen the fifth
- 2:14chapter of Genesis that Adam begot Seth and after that
- 2:18lived on for some eight hundred years, begetting sons and daughters.
- 2:23Cain very probably married a sister. He could have even
- 2:26married a niece, but that would involve the marriage of
- 2:31a brother and a sister at some stage, or indeed
- 2:34of several brothers and sisters. With the cessation of necessity.
- 2:38Such close iner relationship was forbidden, but special conditions naturally prevailed.
- 2:43In such special circumstances as the starting of the human race,
- 2:48God exercised a special providence to safeguard the earliest human
- 2:51beings from the evils usually associated with close centered marriage.
- 2:55What does that mean, Well, it's actually not really immoral
- 3:00to marry a cousin. If it were, there wouldn't be
- 3:06many kings or royalty or actually people of noble birth
- 3:11at all in this world. I mean, look at King
- 3:15so called King Charles. He's about as inbred as the
- 3:20kid that played the banjo and Deliverance. He just talks well,
- 3:27but there are health issues. So when they're actually talking
- 3:30of evil in this situation, and they're talking about harms,
- 3:38genetic deficiencies of having too close to a bloodline, and
- 3:44after all, his sister would not be so closely related
- 3:46to Cain as Eve was to Adam. After all, Eve
- 3:49was made from Adam's rib or something like Cain's wife
- 3:54was not made out of his own rib. Whom Cain
- 3:56married precisely is not mentioned as not being very important.
- 4:00One book cannot give all the names that have occurred
- 4:04in history, and the Bible gives but a summary outline
- 4:07of chief events very important to remember. I was actually
- 4:14stumbled across an utterly ridiculous post by someone today. I
- 4:18think it was on Twitter, come and Facebook, but they
- 4:21were claiming to have traced the lineage of King Charles
- 4:24so called. And I say that because he's not the
- 4:27legitimate King of England.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 4:29Speaker 2: The Kings of Wessex are the House of Wessex, are
- 4:33the legitimate Kings of England.
- 4:35Speaker 1: They're nothing.
- 4:39Speaker 2: He and his family are nothing but usurpers to the
- 4:42actual Catholic throne of England. Got there through substrufuge and
- 4:48murder and dirty dealings and have no legitimate right to
- 4:54the throne. But anyway, this guy decided that he could
- 4:58trace King Charles so called all the way back to Adam,
- 5:04and he claimed to have every generation from Adam and
- 5:07Eve up to King Charles, showing that they are the
- 5:10heirs to like the legitimate like ultimate chosen by God
- 5:14to rule the world, absolute total bs. I would say
- 5:21it in a much more stringent terms were I not
- 5:25doing a religious podcast. I'm actually of the House of Wessex.
- 5:29My great great great great grandfather was.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Lord Cheshire.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I can trace my lineage back to guys like you know,
- 5:37King Edward, the confessor of King Richard Lyonheart Aarrowaith and
- 5:44all those names I really can't pronounce. I know exactly
- 5:48what the lineage is of the Royalty of England, and
- 5:55frankly it's not that impressive. Gad the first kings and
- 6:01that we have several saints. The Catholic kings were really great.
- 6:08The Windsors they are not legitimate. I mean they're basically well,
- 6:14they are truly illegitimate. They're basically bastards and conniving, thoroughly corrupt.
- 6:23Not their reign is not established by God, and they
- 6:29are not the legitimate kings of England, who by definition
- 6:35would be Catholic. They are apostates and heretics and usually
- 6:42inbred morons. Okay, now one of the Kings of Wessex
- 6:47got there. Well, basically there were warriors who conquer nation.
- 6:52You know, did God allow them to conquronation. I don't know,
- 6:55but they eventually led the nation to become Catholic and
- 6:58they have a legitimate right to rule. Could be a
- 7:01few others in that, you know, the Normans, Norman and
- 7:06and maybe even some of the.
- 7:08Speaker 1: What what would you call him? Norwegian?
- 7:12Speaker 2: Not Norse, that's the word I'm looking for. Some of
- 7:14the Norse lineage. You could say that the Picts and
- 7:19the and the Welsh, and you know the other original
- 7:23you know, Anglo people, Saxon's and everything would have a
- 7:27legitimate rule. But God did choose one to convert England
- 7:31into a Catholic nation, and then King Henry the eighth
- 7:35took it away. And also related to King Henry the Eighth,
- 7:37you know, I can in all honesty and say he
- 7:41was an Antichrist. I'm also related to the royals of
- 7:48Ireland very much a similar situation.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Warrior kings.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Carol actually translate to well, if I was pronounced it
- 7:57phonetically be carab hell, it's more like carol or that's
- 8:03been slaughter in ancient Gaelic. They were really fierce warrior
- 8:09kings who became Catholic kings of England, I mean of Ireland. Sorry,
- 8:13of Ireland. Uh, well parts of the British and well
- 8:16what's now England, Uh, part of Scotland. You know, the
- 8:21cousin was the king of Scotland. That's how the so
- 8:24called Scone Stone of Scone or Stone of Destiny got
- 8:28from Ireland to Scotland. The mythical stone that was said
- 8:33to have been brought to the Celtic peoples actually from
- 8:38the Hebrew peoples, is supposed to scream when the legitimate
- 8:41error is crowned upon it. Okay, very saying it similar
- 8:45in Scotland. Yeah, in Scotland, of course, the Scots caved
- 8:50to the English. The Scotland the Brave became Scotland subservient
- 8:55and uh forsook for yes, forsook its Catholic religion and
- 9:03became essentially slaves to the English. You know, lots of
- 9:08interesting personalities in that. It can't really fall to anyone,
- 9:11but you know, watch Brave Heart you kind of figure out.
- 9:14Speaker 1: What it was all about.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'm related to Royalty of Spain very much a similar
- 9:21situation there. Spain remained Catholic though, but you know it's
- 9:27had SUPs and downs. French, Yes, I've got French royalty
- 9:32lots of French royal blood. So when I talk about
- 9:36the French Revolution and how it was again Antichrist, you know,
- 9:43I can speak with you know. I love for France,
- 9:46I love the food, I love the people. Those are
- 9:48my people just as much as the Irish, just as
- 9:51much as the English.
- 9:54Speaker 1: But it's an apostate nation.
- 9:58Speaker 2: More so, I guess I was even in the English
- 10:01because of the terrible violence of the French Revolution and
- 10:05really the fostering and founding of communism. I mean, you know,
- 10:08we think of communism as Karl Marx and Ingles. You know,
- 10:11they're basically living in Paris. I mean they were, you know,
- 10:15the fruits of the French Revolution became the Communist revolution
- 10:20of the late eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds. And
- 10:23it's anti christ, it's anti Catholic, it's anti Christian, it's
- 10:29atheistic at its core. So now let's see, shall we
- 10:33continue with this atheist Well, just a couple more questions,
- 10:38he says, do you believe with science that man has
- 10:42been on earth tens of thousands of years? Or do
- 10:45you believe the Bible story? And see this is the
- 10:48thing just like that, How shall I be charitable?
- 10:54Speaker 1: Misguided?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Soul who tried to trace so called King Charles's lineage
- 11:00to Adam and Eve.
- 11:02Speaker 1: People like to.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Take the Bible literally when it's really a summation of events.
- 11:07The genealogies and heritage in there are not to be
- 11:11taken literally, as I've said, Okay, I just told you
- 11:17my great great I think it's sixth grade. If I
- 11:20remember back, the fifth or sixth great grandfather was Lord Cheshire.
- 11:26You know what, I can't tell you who his son was,
- 11:29and I can't actually tell you who his father was.
- 11:32We get the highlights, you know, we remember, like the
- 11:35ones that really stand out and in the Bible. Yeah,
- 11:38there's probably you know, a HydroD generations left out between
- 11:42these genealogies when they're reading him off, you know. I mean,
- 11:45nobody really has any idea how the earth is and
- 11:50how many generations have been on it except God himself,
- 11:54and like it or not, he's never really revealed that.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I mean, you know, the.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Bible talks about the thephylum, the so called sons of
- 12:05fallen angels who mix with humanity, who were giants. Well,
- 12:09I mean for years that was thought it was just
- 12:11like a myth, right. I Mean, people say we got
- 12:14to take the Bible very literally. Well, people said it
- 12:16was a myth because you know, a giant, a son
- 12:18of an angel with a human. Then you know the
- 12:23church for quite a while, and I think, I think,
- 12:25I don't know they've ever officially, there's no official doctrine
- 12:27as far as I know, said that these were giants
- 12:30in their not in the physical terms, but in their
- 12:34proclivity to evil. They were just so cruel they were
- 12:36considered giants of being bad. That's a bit of a
- 12:40stretch in my opinion, but it makes sense. And then
- 12:45you find things that you just can't explain, Like around Cherokee,
- 12:49North Carolina, not far from where I live, there's this
- 12:53giant handprint in the stone, a human hand, like a
- 12:58massive human hand, like ten feet from pinky to thumb.
- 13:05And the legend is that the giant was walking through
- 13:08and stumbled and leaned and printed his hand. I can't
- 13:11explain that. I mean literally, I cannot explain that. Can
- 13:16you explain that? No one can tell how that imprint
- 13:20in that stone got there. So you know, as far
- 13:23as I'm concerned, you'd call me crazy. I think I'm foolish,
- 13:26But the jury's out for me. I mean, are the
- 13:31dragons that are mentioned or the sea serpents in the Bible?
- 13:35Speaker 1: Dinosaurs?
- 13:37Speaker 2: Did people find the dinosaur bones and come up with
- 13:40missing legends or were their actual human beings living at
- 13:44the same time of the dinosaurs. Nobody actually knows. I mean,
- 13:48the Darwinists will go on and you know great length
- 13:52about the missing link and how eight became man. They
- 13:55can't find those fossils, they cannot show that missing link.
- 13:59It's never been proved, so I mean, but they make
- 14:05that as a scientific claim. I'm sitting here as a
- 14:07Catholic saying I have no idea how old.
- 14:09Speaker 1: The Earth is.
- 14:11Speaker 2: I have no idea. If man was on earth with dinosaurs,
- 14:14I have no idea if there were once giants walking
- 14:17the face of the earth. We know there were giant animals.
- 14:21Could there have been giant human beings. I have no idea,
- 14:25and I don't need to because really that's not of
- 14:30any importance.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I mean, what.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Matters is how you live your life and how you
- 14:36die and if you make it to heaven. I don't
- 14:38have to understand everything. I mean, there are mysteries of
- 14:42the faith. I can't explain to you. Really, the Trinity,
- 14:45I can under I have a concept of it, But
- 14:48can I actually explain the nature of the Trinity?
- 14:51Speaker 1: No?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Can I explain how bread and wine becomes the body
- 14:55and blood of Christ? Absolutely not. But I believe it
- 14:58does because God said it that it's the truth. It
- 15:00has to be the truth, otherwise He's not God. Otherwise
- 15:03I have no religion whatsoever. But it's not even something
- 15:07I question. Even when as a Protestant I believed it,
- 15:10I didn't understand that the you know, Protestantism does not
- 15:13believe it. But yeah, I mean, you know, it's really
- 15:19extreme arrogance and presumption for humans of no there how
- 15:25smart they are to think they can figure out the
- 15:28mysteries of the universe and history and nature. And you know,
- 15:34it really is the human mind's ever going to be
- 15:39able to understand the might of God. Basically may be
- 15:46able to participate in the nature of God through Jesus Christ,
- 15:51but not to fully understand in an intellectual way. Never
- 15:56going to happen. But anyway, so the guy, do you
- 16:00believe the earth is tens of thousands of years older?
- 16:03The Bible story and the answer. Science has nothing very
- 16:06definite to say on that subject, and in any case,
- 16:10the age of the human race cannot be calculated from
- 16:13the Bible. I certainly believe the Bible account in its
- 16:16proper sense. As far as the account is concerned, man
- 16:20could have been on Earth one hundred thousand years. No
- 16:24one can say exactly how long, right on. You know,
- 16:29I know what it was like. At a certain Southern
- 16:31Baptist University of Virginia, some people were absolutely they thought
- 16:37they knew it. The Earth's no more than ten thousand
- 16:39years old, and we know that by the Bible, right
- 16:42And another Pentecostal university in Virginia. Boy, they gave people
- 16:46degrees in trying to figure out stuff like that. And
- 16:51that's not what the Bible's about. It's not meant for that.
- 16:53And men, I mean, you think a gender studies degree
- 16:58is worthless? How about one of those degrees where somebody's
- 17:01trying to figure out the age of the earth through
- 17:03the words of the Bible. You know, really, sometimes Christian
- 17:11colleges are as absurd as secular.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I and continues.
- 17:17Speaker 2: You have distinguished from body and soul of man, the
- 17:21soul being a spirit. Yet how can a man belong
- 17:25to the material and the spiritual world at once? They
- 17:29exclude each other, and they answer a material world, it
- 17:33cannot be a spiritual world, nor can a spiritual world
- 17:36be a material world. But the two can't exist simultaneously,
- 17:40even as one man's head. Even as in one man's
- 17:45head we have the material brains and spiritual thoughts. We
- 17:49cannot say that man's material brains so fill a man's
- 17:52head that they leave no room for thought. Even in
- 17:56purely physical things, you can have the material copper and
- 18:00the electrical force occupying the same wire. They are different
- 18:04in order of being. It's very the modernist materialists. I
- 18:10kind of get that argument, but it's kind of ridiculous actually. Anyway,
- 18:14the person finally, he says, is it revealed doctrine that
- 18:17the soul of man is immortal? And they ask for yes.
- 18:21Revelation confirms the conclusion of reason, which I have explained already.
- 18:25The account in Genesis of man's formation proves it. God
- 18:29is immortal and cannot die. He made man his own
- 18:32image and likeness. But our bodies are nothing like God
- 18:35in appearance and are immortal. Therefore, the real image of
- 18:39God is in our soul, and it resembles God by immortality.
- 18:44Both old and new Testament insists upon the immortality of
- 18:48the soul.
- 18:49Speaker 1: All right, now we will get back to Father Spirago.
- 18:52Speaker 2: And we are still talking about the Mass, because it
- 18:55is the most important thing in this world in which
- 18:58we participate. And a topic today is the obligation of
- 19:06hearing Mass, very much misunderstood these days. Every Catholic is bound,
- 19:14under pain of mortal sin, to hear the whole of
- 19:18one Mass about the every Sunday and Holy Day of obligation.
- 19:24Hard to do. Certainly, can't do it when we're sick.
- 19:27Should not do it when we're sick. When you're sick,
- 19:29do not go to Mass and get other people sick.
- 19:32That is really irresponsible and it's uncharitable. When you can't
- 19:38go to Mass. You are obligated to go to Mass
- 19:40on Sunday and every Holy Day of obligation. Everyone that
- 19:45calls themselves a Christian who does not attend a Catholic
- 19:49Mass is an absolute violation of the commandments of Christ. Therefore,
- 20:00no Protestant church service is valid. It cannot substitute for
- 20:06the Mass, because there's no Euchrist. Attending a Protestant church
- 20:12service does not satisfy one's obligation to go to Mass
- 20:16in which the Eucharist is offered. I don't care how
- 20:20devout someone is as a Protestant, I don't care if
- 20:23they go to church three times a week. They are
- 20:26disobeying God. Granted, They're probably doing it ignorantly, and God's
- 20:31not going to judge them for that, But well, his
- 20:36judgment will be different. Let's just put it that way.
- 20:39They will be held accountable for what they know and understand.
- 20:42But as a Catholic, do not ever think, do not
- 20:46ever think that attending a Protestant service, or watching a
- 20:50Protestant preacher on television, or anything like that can substitute
- 20:54for the Mass. There is no substitute for the Mass.
- 21:00So he says, those persons who could not go to
- 21:03church without great injury to themselves, who have some urgent
- 21:06work of mercy to perform, are excused from hearing mass.
- 21:11Those are dispensed from hearing mass who, by going to
- 21:14church would incur serious personal injury. Thus the sick who
- 21:19cannot go to church are excused. Likewise, those who helped
- 21:23it so delicate that they cannot go without at least
- 21:27the risk of falling ill. Been the case for me
- 21:31and my mother and several people we know since COVID hit.
- 21:37You know, we all got COVID and you get long
- 21:39COVID and keeps coming back, and it's like every Sunday
- 21:42it's like, am I well enough to go to Mass?
- 21:45Am I so weak that if I go to Mass,
- 21:46I'm going to catch something else? Am I sick enough?
- 21:49Am I running a fever? Could somebody else catch what
- 21:51I have? It's been tough since COVID. It's really tough
- 21:54for people who are on chemotherapy or who have other,
- 21:58you know, immunocompromise conditions. So and I really think people
- 22:04need to be more cognizant of that. I mean, I've
- 22:08seen so many people drag their very sick kids to MASS,
- 22:13teaching them you have to go to mass. Well, that's good,
- 22:15but next to them is going to be an immune
- 22:17compromise elderly person who's going to drop dead because they
- 22:21were so inconsiderate and put it that way as to
- 22:28expose that elderly person to their sick kid. Kids are
- 22:32going to have a lot cults. Kids are going to
- 22:34get the flu, and as part of developing an immune system,
- 22:37do not do not tank yourself for your sick kid.
- 22:43To mass because you may kill somebody. That's basically like
- 22:49involuntary manslaughter. And I see it every single Sunday, you know,
- 22:55some usually some other. Well, you know, we're going to
- 22:58Mass and you're getting out of bed. You're going right now.
- 23:02I don't care, you know, quit whineing. Go the mass
- 23:05is the most important thing, and it is. But do
- 23:09you do you not think that that person's not gound
- 23:11be actually held accountable for their should I call it arrogance,
- 23:21scrupulousness whatever, that could actually lead to the death of
- 23:25another person. I mean really, and I mean literally, I
- 23:31you know, okay to see unsinsory Catholic, I'm going to
- 23:34just let it fly here. I have bitten my tongue
- 23:39many times, and frankly the priest should really let them
- 23:48have it and say, you arrogant, self righteous person, you
- 23:55cannot come here sick or bring your sick kids here
- 23:59because you can, you're harming other people. I'm binding my tongue.
- 24:04I mean I really feel like really letting fly.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I've seen this. I have been to Mass and gotten
- 24:10sick from people around me. I have seen my mother
- 24:13when she was on chemotherapy go to Mass and get
- 24:15sick from other people. We have this stupid obligation of
- 24:19shaking hands, which never should have been introduced. All that
- 24:26ridiculous hand sanitizer doesn't do a thing because you know,
- 24:30we're breathing each other's breath, sitting beside each other in
- 24:33the aisles. Anybody who coughs or sneeze is getting their
- 24:36germs all over you. And no face masks don't work.
- 24:40If you're sick, stay home.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I mean it is. It is a form of extreme.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Selfishness, self important, self righteousness to endanger another person's health
- 25:00because either you know you're so self important you can't
- 25:06miss the mass, or you're going to teach your kids
- 25:09a lesson. Get the hell over yourself. Okay, I'll move
- 25:16on now, all right. So others again, who live more
- 25:22than three miles from church or two greater distance, do
- 25:26not have to go to Mass in bad weather. This
- 25:29is written in eighteen eighties. I believe, of course, three
- 25:34miles was much greater distance than now. But again, I
- 25:39live in the mountains of North Carolina, and if I
- 25:42wake up on a Sunday morning, or if it's Saturday
- 25:45afternoon or a holiday, and we got snow and ice
- 25:48on the road, so I'm not going to Mass.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Again.
- 25:52Speaker 2: It's risking your life, and you have a duty to
- 25:55preserve your life through your body, which is a temple
- 25:57of the Holy Spirit. You also have a duty not
- 26:01to go out and slide on ice on slick roads
- 26:04and kill somebody else. Trust me, if you die and
- 26:10you arrive at the Holy Gates and your stupid, arrogant
- 26:15ass ran into somebody and killed them because you were
- 26:18so element to get in church, what do you think
- 26:21Saint Peter's going to say, to get the Holy Gates
- 26:24in charity? You should have stayed home.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I could really go on about this for a while,
- 26:32because I've seen some of the most irresponsible behavior, especially
- 26:37among those who hold themselves is higher than everybody else.
- 26:41The really a lot of women with large families who
- 26:46will drag their kids out of bed with the flu
- 26:49running high fevers and make them go to church. I
- 26:53have seen people driving on icy roads getting into accidents.
- 26:57I mean, my church is up on a hill. I mean,
- 27:00whether there's ice or snow on the road, you can't
- 27:02even get up there. They'll go, man, now, I mean
- 27:04they'll get that and they'll come sliding back down and
- 27:07hit another car. They don't give a nam about anybody.
- 27:11I mean, it is an act of Christian charity to
- 27:15consider the consequences your actions may have on another person.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Seriously.
- 27:25Speaker 2: I mean, you know, when my mom was in chemotherapy,
- 27:28this was something we had to deal with all the time,
- 27:31all the time, dealing weighing out the obligation to attend
- 27:35Mass against the really inconsiderate, arrogant, self rightious, self important
- 27:41people who will go in there and cough right in
- 27:43your face. All right, So we talked about bad weather,
- 27:51he says. A king once observed that on astronomy December morning,
- 27:55the church was almost empty, whereas in the evening, though
- 27:57the snow was falling heavily, the theater is crowded. Yes,
- 28:01that's where you have to balance alas he exclaimed. The
- 28:04people are ready enough to make sacrifice for pleasure, but
- 28:08for God they will make none. Working people are also
- 28:12excused if they would lose their employment by leaving their
- 28:15work to hear mass. Or they may stay away occasionally
- 28:19if by going they have great agreements to put up
- 28:22with great disagreeableness.
- 28:27Speaker 1: That's hard to say, to.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Put up with from people they live with, though they
- 28:31should endeavor rather to bring them to a better mind.
- 28:33In other words. Okay, so growing up Protestant, you know
- 28:39it was drilled into me. You have to go to
- 28:40church every Sunday, and I wouldn't work on Sunday to
- 28:44lost a lot of jobs really in bad financial hardships.
- 28:48Catholic Church actually says, if your employer won't let you
- 28:51have Sunday off, you don't have to go to Mass.
- 28:55Not ideal, you should make every effort. But also if
- 29:00a Catholic is married to a non Catholic or there's
- 29:02something else and it's gonna destroy their marriage, their excuse
- 29:08for going to Mass, but make every effort to convert
- 29:12that person and bring them to Mass. I mean, in
- 29:16so many ways more is expected from us as Catholics.
- 29:19We have days of fasting and obligation, but it's also
- 29:24so logical and reasonable. I mean, we really have no
- 29:27excuse at the end. We can't just say well, I
- 29:30fell away from the Catholic Church because you know whatever. No,
- 29:34the Catholic Church makes every bends over backwards, says you
- 29:36know what, if you can't make it, we understand you
- 29:40really actually only have to attend Mass once a year
- 29:44and confessional once a year, and I mean that's you know,
- 29:48the minimum requirements. But if you intentionally miss Mass, if
- 29:54you can go, if there's no reason you can't go,
- 29:57that's a mortal sin because you said, for the sake
- 30:00out the gathering yourselves together on Lord's Day.
- 30:03Speaker 1: So there you have it.
- 30:05Speaker 2: But I mean, in some ways it's so much harder
- 30:09to be Catholic and Protestant, But in other ways it's
- 30:11so much easier because the Catholic Church is the only
- 30:14church that has logic and reasonableness and isn't just you.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Know, artificial doctrines.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Anyway, he goes on. One member of a household may
- 30:26remain home to keep the house. Those again are excused
- 30:29from attennis at Mass. Eighteen eighties, a lot of times
- 30:33the wife would have to stay home to cook and
- 30:35the rest of the family would go to Mass. And
- 30:38it's a legitimate duty. I mean, they were cooking or fire.
- 30:41It wasn't you know, they didn't have arbies or McDonald's anyway,
- 30:48Those again are excused from attennis at Mass. We have
- 30:50to perform more of mercies, such as nursing the sick,
- 30:54taking care of young children, preparing meals for other inmates
- 30:57at the house, and it just means people who live
- 31:00in the house. They're not talking prisoners hopefully, but yeah,
- 31:03that you know, self righteous Catholic mother who drives her
- 31:09flu ridden one hundred and twenty fever puking and coughing
- 31:14kids to Mass and gets everybody in church sick, would
- 31:18be much more pleasing to God if she stayed home
- 31:20and cared for her child. Really, I'm not saying men
- 31:26don't do it too, but you can probably picture the
- 31:30woman in mind that I am referencing. You've all met
- 31:34her one hundred times in a thousand different forms. We
- 31:38have not heard a whole Mass unless we have been
- 31:41present in church during the three principal parts of one
- 31:43of the same mess. It is a requisite to be
- 31:46present at the three principal parts of the Mass. If
- 31:49one of these is omitted through negligence, the obligation is
- 31:53not fulfilled again through negligence. If you can't do it,
- 31:55you just can't do it. If, for instance, we do
- 31:58not come in before the offeratory, or if we leave
- 32:00before communion, as my priest told me, be there for
- 32:04our Father, don't leave until after the Eucharist.
- 32:08Speaker 1: I get there as soon as you can get there
- 32:11early if you can, but at least come for that.
- 32:14It does not.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Suffice to hear one mass from the consecration to the end,
- 32:17and another from the commencement to the consecration. What Christ
- 32:20has joined together, Let not the Christian put asunder Father's
- 32:24barrogo is clever. He who comes in after the offer
- 32:29tory must stay for the whole of another mass.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Believe it or not.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Yeah, And of course now we don't have many churches
- 32:35that offer two masses in a row, so you just
- 32:38kind of screwed up. Moreover, one must be present inside
- 32:41the church. It will not suffice to sit or stand outside,
- 32:45unless the church should be so overcrowded that it's impossible
- 32:48to get inside.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Of course, during.
- 32:51Speaker 2: COVID a lot of us had to well, a lodd
- 32:57churches allowed this. It was encouraged by the bishops not
- 33:01to go into i guess, the sanctuary itself, but to
- 33:04stand anywhere kind of on the periphery where you could
- 33:08hear the mass and you could participate. And a lot
- 33:12of us still do that when we have health issues.
- 33:15But at this time, of course, they didn't have PA
- 33:17systems and microphones and all that, so you really didn't
- 33:21need to be inside to participate in Mass, and of
- 33:24course the traditional Latin Mass, which is a bit different
- 33:27than novasorto. So how potent is the prayer of the
- 33:31assembly multitude?
- 33:32Speaker 1: For where two or three are gathered together in Christ's.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Name, there he is in the midst of them Matthew
- 33:38eighteen twenty. Saint John the Almaner, patriarch Alexandria in the
- 33:43seventh century, put a stop to the bad habit his
- 33:46flockhead remaining outside during Mass time. In other words, they
- 33:52just like gather around the church, not go in. I've
- 33:55never seen that, honestly, but you know, I could, you know,
- 34:00you know, maybe in big cities and you know up north,
- 34:03I don't know, but we don't get that in the
- 34:04South at least we actually do go inside. One Sunday,
- 34:08instead of vesting for Mass, he went outside and sat
- 34:11with the people outside of the church. Of their great astonishment,
- 34:14he said, where the sheep are there? The shepherd must
- 34:16be while you stay here, I will do the same.
- 34:19If you go in, I will too. And after this rebuke,
- 34:23no one was seen outside of the church at Mass time.
- 34:26Those only can be said to hear the mass devoutly,
- 34:29who banished from their mind all that may cause them distraction,
- 34:33and who unite their petitions to those of the priests,
- 34:36especially at the three principal parts of the Mass. Okay,
- 34:38so how closely are you paying attention at Mass? It
- 34:47can be difficult, especially I've got a lot on your mind.
- 34:49Speaker 1: You got problems, you got troubles.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I really have an issue with parents who let their
- 34:54kids run up and down the aisles and play loudly
- 34:58at or who the teenagers get on their phones and
- 35:01texts and get on Facebook and Twitter and all that crap.
- 35:05It's doing them no good to come to Mass. Do
- 35:08you need the discipline of sitting there and paying attention?
- 35:12And what does he say uniting their petitions to the priests. Otherwise,
- 35:19what are you doing there? You actually be better off
- 35:23sitting at home watching on television. Really, and you're not
- 35:26fulfilling your obligation of going to Mass. Now, people say,
- 35:31you know, if you don't have crying babies at church,
- 35:34and you know, you're not really.
- 35:36Speaker 1: A Catholic church.
- 35:36Speaker 2: I agree, and nobody can fault an infant for crying.
- 35:40But when parents just let their kids run wild, and
- 35:43you've seen them I'm sure you have running up and
- 35:45down the aisles, annoying people, throwing things at people, and
- 35:51they're like, oh, we're Catholic, we know we love children.
- 35:53You had to put up with it, or you have
- 35:55a problem. No, you have a problem. You need to
- 35:58discipline your children and teach them reverence or in the
- 36:01presence of God. I mean, for Pete's sake. You wouldn't
- 36:04let him act that way in a court and the
- 36:06judges is a human being. Yeah, let him back that
- 36:09way in church? No, but the phones. Get rid of
- 36:12those funds. I'd say it over over, get rid of
- 36:15those funds. It is permissible to assist at the holy
- 36:19sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays and Holy Days in
- 36:21any church, but it is desirable to go to one's
- 36:24parish church. The Council of Trent admonishes the faithful to
- 36:29be frequent in their attendance at the parish church, at
- 36:31least on Sundays and the greater festivals. On those days,
- 36:35the priest offers holy sacrifice for all his petitioners parishioners,
- 36:40both living and dead, and adapts his servants to the
- 36:42need of the flock. Furthermore, in the parish church. Notices
- 36:46are given out of marriages, of fast days, of ecclesiastical
- 36:50festivals and ordinances. The faithful ought to at least become
- 36:54acquainted with their parish priests, who is their pastor and
- 36:57spiritual father in the House of God. There is, however,
- 37:01no law which makes it binding upon Catholics to hear
- 37:03the mass of their parish church. In other words, you
- 37:05can go to any Catholic church that you want, as
- 37:07long as it's a valid Catholic church, but really should
- 37:12try your best to be part of your parish. To
- 37:15hear a Mass on weekdays, if possible, is a highly
- 37:18commendable practice, for it may be the means of gaining
- 37:21the greatest graces. If the Holy sacrifices were celebrated in
- 37:25only one place in the world and offered only by
- 37:29one priest with what longing would Christian people hasten to
- 37:32that spot? But now there are many priests and.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Christ is daily offered.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Up in many places. How much is our lukewarmness and
- 37:41negligence to be deplored which has thereby arisen. Some people
- 37:46consider the half hour they have to take from work
- 37:49to hear a mass is a loss of time, and
- 37:53let me tell you, weekday masters really ought to be
- 37:55a half hour because people do have to work. I
- 37:59have never been in a parish where weekday where the
- 38:02prese actually seem to understand that working people maybe maybe
- 38:07get an hour off for lunch and would like to
- 38:09go to mass and grab a bike to eat before
- 38:11they go back to work. Usually it's a good forty
- 38:14five minute long mass and driving time to and back
- 38:19parking means that most of us can't get the mass
- 38:23on a weekday. Also true of days of obligation the
- 38:27fall on weekday. The priests just don't seem to understand.
- 38:31But most people really don't even get an hour off
- 38:34for lunch. It's more like thirty minutes. I mean, and
- 38:37you got to eat. You can't eat before a mass.
- 38:40So I mean you get off of maybe eleven thirty noon,
- 38:43you can leave your work.
- 38:45Speaker 1: What are you supposed to do?
- 38:46Speaker 2: Drive one hundred miles an hour to mass, park, run
- 38:49in your entire lunch break's taken, and then drive back,
- 38:54get late for work and be fired. I mean, come on,
- 38:58priests need to be a little more accommodating of that.
- 39:00But you know, let's be honest, most priests have never
- 39:03had a job outside of the church. They went straight
- 39:07from their parents' homes to school to the priesthood. They
- 39:10don't understand. In the eighteen eighties, at least, Father Spirago
- 39:15said that a weekday mass should be thirty minutes. Thirty minutes,
- 39:21I mean granted, and that even if you only get
- 39:25thirty minutes for lunch, that's difficult.
- 39:27Speaker 1: You can't even do it.
- 39:28Speaker 2: But for people who get an hour lunch, they could
- 39:32at least take advantage of it. And you know, why
- 39:35can't you also do a six pm Mass on a weekday.
- 39:39Let's somebody get off of work five point thirty, you know,
- 39:44give the average person a chance just to go to mass.
- 39:47I mean, you know, I've known a lot of priests.
- 39:51They weren't exactly doing a lot around six o'clock on
- 39:54a weekday unless it was an evening mass. So I
- 39:59think you could all for especially even if you can't
- 40:02offer more masses, have about more time for confessional I mean,
- 40:05you've got a church of like three thousand parishioners and
- 40:08you have confession for thirty months on a Saturday, nobody's
- 40:11going to confession that needs to go. You know, it's ridiculous.
- 40:15I mean it goes both ways. We as the parishioners,
- 40:19as the faithful, we have to do our part. But
- 40:21you know, the priests really, I know they work hard,
- 40:25and I know they have to be there for every
- 40:27sick call and somebody's dying and all that. But more
- 40:30confession times and more weekday mass times that aren't like
- 40:35at six am or seven am. I mean, they'll deal
- 40:38with Mass at seven thirty and the kids are supposed
- 40:40to be dead in school by eight. It's crazy. You
- 40:44can't do that Mass at seven thirty. You don't get
- 40:47out of there until eight eight fifteen, and the kids
- 40:49are late if they're not at school by eight thirty
- 40:51and they haven't had breakfast.
- 40:54Speaker 1: I mean, how about times that people.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Can actually go to mass? A lot of times this
- 41:00is going to be in the evening, and you know,
- 41:04father so and so, maybe you ought to stay at
- 41:08church after five o'clock. After all, you're not, you know,
- 41:11punching a clock like the.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Rest of us.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Just my two cents anyway, Um, So we said, some
- 41:20people consider the half hour they take from their time
- 41:22to work to hear a mass a loss of time.
- 41:26This is, however, not so before they do their work
- 41:28better and more quickly through having been a mass? Has
- 41:31not our Lord said, seek ye first the Kingdom of
- 41:33God and his justice, and all things should be added
- 41:36unto you Matthew six point thirty three, If says coach him,
- 41:40a shower of gold fell from the clouds, thou would
- 41:42surely leave thy work and hasten the street to gather
- 41:46up the coins. Only a fool would stop indoors, and
- 41:49thou art a fool if thou dost, through indifferent sort negligence,
- 41:53submit to hear a mass. When a stream of heavenly
- 41:56treasures is poured out from on high through a neglecting
- 42:00only mass, one loses far more than one would gain
- 42:02by a whole week's work.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Arrange that business.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Therefore, if thou canst so, if as to allow the
- 42:09hearing of mass daily, and if only that was possible
- 42:14for ninety percent of us, I'll say that is not possible.
- 42:19Daily mass is basically for the retirees. And maybe the
- 42:24priests and bishops want to think about that. Maybe they
- 42:27should offer, Hey, how about two masses on a weekday?
- 42:32You ever had been a mass on a Monday? I
- 42:35mean you know church office is usually closed on a Monday.
- 42:40Good luck, good luck, And if it's impossible for THEE
- 42:46to go thyself, give alms to some poor person to
- 42:49hear mass for thee.
- 42:50Speaker 1: It's a good idea.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Give somebody a few dollars to go hear a mass
- 42:54for you. Have you ever done that? I haven't be
- 42:57a good thing to do. Unfortunately, I've never encountered a
- 43:02Catholic homeless person. Well, anyway, interesting concept, let's just put
- 43:11it that way. Eighteen nineties Czechoslovakia, that wouldn't have been
- 43:15an issue.
- 43:15Speaker 1: That's when Father Spirago was writing.
- 43:19Speaker 2: But you know what you can do. You can ask
- 43:21your guardian angel to get a mass for you. Absolutely,
- 43:25that's one of your guardian angels shops. For as is
- 43:29the case with every good work, we may apply to
- 43:31others the merits of hearing mass without being losers ourself.
- 43:35For the Priest and the can of the Mass supposes
- 43:37that those who are present with him offer up the
- 43:41holy sacrifice. Who offer up the sacrifice holy sacrifice, do
- 43:45so for their families and friends as well as for themselves.
- 43:48Do not allow human respect to keep you from serving Christ.
- 43:51For if you are ashamed of Him, he would be
- 43:53ashamed of you. Luke nine six, when King Lewis of
- 43:58France was told that the people talked about his habit
- 44:00of hearing one or even more than one mass daily,
- 44:04he replied, how careful people are about my time? If
- 44:07I spent twice as long at play or out hunting,
- 44:11they would have not a word to say about it.
- 44:13And that was when the kings of France. Yes, my
- 44:15ancestors were quite devout Catholics and very very great men.
- 44:22The Blessed Thomas Moore, another ancestor, another relative of mine,
- 44:26one of my favorite saints, was accustomed to say, in
- 44:30connection with hearing the Mass daily, that he esteemed it
- 44:33his greatest honor to render that mark of respect to
- 44:36the king of kings. Now I shoulscribed to qualify I say
- 44:40one of my relatives. It seems like he was like
- 44:44a distant cousin what twenty generations back. Don't ask me
- 44:50to prove that I don't have the genealogy, but if
- 44:54I'm not mistaken, it was either More or Merton, one
- 44:59of those great that is somewhere like really distantly related.
- 45:03Certainly not a grandfather or an uncle even, But anyway,
- 45:10Saint Thomas Moore, Saint Thomas Mertin pray for us. Absolutely, y'all.
- 45:15Let's wrap it up there. While going to Mass is
- 45:19the very best thing we can do in this life,
- 45:23we should also be very, very conscientious of the people
- 45:28we are interacting with. We have no right to put
- 45:33another person in danger. God doesn't ask us to do that.
- 45:38He only asks us to do our best. And in
- 45:42some cases, yes, I think the church, the priests should
- 45:45do more. They should do their best to offer more
- 45:49masses that regular working people can attend, and parents and
- 45:53all that. But remember icy roads, snowstorms, sickness, stay your
- 46:01butt at Hume. If you have to watch EWTN, watch EWTN.
- 46:09You know, I'm really some programs on EWTN, especially like
- 46:14you know, twenty years ago, I really enjoyed like a
- 46:16father grocer and mother angelic and all that. But you know,
- 46:21a lot of times it is dry as dust. It
- 46:24is just almost impossible to watch without falling asleep.
- 46:28Speaker 1: And I remember one time I did miss.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Mass and I'm sick, and I'm probably a little bit
- 46:36of food poisoning because I remember feeling better in the
- 46:38afternoon and I went at the.
- 46:39Speaker 3: Grocery store and when you know, I walked down the
- 46:42wine aisle and there's my priest and he's like, I
- 46:46didn't see it mass today and I said, yeah, I
- 46:51was really sick.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I couldn't make it.
- 46:53Speaker 2: And I said, but I did watch Mass on EWTN
- 46:58and he said it looks at me.
- 46:59Speaker 1: He says, my son, you have done penance enough.
- 47:02Speaker 2: So I mean, I'm not the only one that can
- 47:06really find e WT in like, you know, more buoyant,
- 47:09boring than watching paint dry. But occasionally it is quite good.
- 47:13It's just like those awful G. K. Chesterton re enactments.
- 47:17There's like dramatic reenactments where somebody dresses up like GK.
- 47:20Chesterton and goes like this monologue of like reading from
- 47:24his work. That's never been good. I mean, I'm sorry
- 47:29if you've got a degree in theater and you think
- 47:31that's like, you know, nobody likes that. Nobody wants to
- 47:36hear that. No, you're not spreading anything except distaste for
- 47:44what's being presented. Nobody likes it when someone acts like
- 47:48their Mark Twain and puts on the white suit and
- 47:51everything and talks like he's reading from Tom Sawya.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 47:55Speaker 2: That's more in New England than Southern and I'm Southern myself.
- 47:58I should know better, but no, I mean those awful GK.
- 48:01Chesterton presentations. Oh or when like Scott han and Jeff
- 48:06Caven's get on any whisper and I read in the
- 48:10book A Maccabees and isn't that amazing? And You're like, well,
- 48:16it could be if I could hear you, dude. I mean,
- 48:18come on, I got some issues with EWTN, and I've
- 48:23been actually one of those like really devout Catholic women
- 48:27on Twitter like basically cuss me out because I even
- 48:30criticize EWTN. You know, I think Mother Angelica will slap
- 48:35some of those people upside their head. But you know
- 48:37that's just my opinion. Anyway, code a Mass if you can.
- 48:47If you can't, don't, But if you can, make every
- 48:51effort to go to Mass and do talk to your
- 48:54priests and see if you can get some I mean,
- 48:56if you've got this issue like I have where I mean,
- 48:59you know, I haven't been home a lot because of
- 49:01the hurricane damage.
- 49:04Speaker 1: In my little parish.
- 49:05Speaker 2: We have confession like three days a week, no problem.
- 49:10Speaker 1: You know you can get in there.
- 49:11Speaker 2: But most of the winter I stayed down in Pinehurst.
- 49:15And you're talking literally one of the biggest Catholic churches
- 49:18in North Carolina, three five thousand families, and they've got
- 49:22confession for like forty five minutes on Saturday. And it's
- 49:29not like the priest is handling multiple parishes. They're actually
- 49:33a couple of priests, you know, and any mess on
- 49:37a Holy Day of Obligation is going to be like
- 49:39an eight.
- 49:39Speaker 1: In the morning. I mean, it's just ridiculous.
- 49:44Speaker 2: It's like these people have no concept of what normal
- 49:47life is for normal people, and it's not good.
- 49:51Speaker 1: It's not good at all.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Actually, it's still a church for a retired population when
- 49:58now probably seventy five percent of the population is young
- 50:01families and working people because a lot of military stuff's happened,
- 50:05a lot of people moved in, and they're just like,
- 50:08you know, we're still like a resort, retirement weekend kind
- 50:12of church now. But but again, I mean I do
- 50:16know the priest it's like constantly going to the hospital,
- 50:19and I mean the older population, he does have to
- 50:22deal with a lot of people passing away. Really just
- 50:25need one priest to be dedicated to offering weekday masses and.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Confession, because yeah, I mean, you.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Get a confession like an hour early reconciliation what you're
- 50:38gonna call it. It's like three thirty on a Saturday, right,
- 50:41and masses at four thirty, so presumably you've got it
- 50:45like a whole hour. But he does always get their
- 50:46own time, and he leaves like fifteen minutes early, so
- 50:49it's you know, not an hour and get you go
- 50:53an hour early. And they're like thirty people already in
- 50:55line for one priest in a church with like five
- 50:59thousand families.
- 51:01Speaker 1: That's not.
- 51:03Speaker 2: I mean, look, the collection there on any given Sunday
- 51:08is probably twenty to thirty thousand dollars and it up.
- 51:14This is one of the wealthiest places in the entire state.
- 51:17We got two sometimes three priests and a deacon. I
- 51:24don't see the excuse, honestly, I don't see the excuse.
- 51:27So why we can't have one extra day a week
- 51:30of confession?
- 51:33Speaker 1: Why not?
- 51:35Speaker 2: I mean, what is the priest doing at six o'clock
- 51:38in the evening on you know, Thursday. He's not playing golf?
- 51:44I mean, sorry, he's out playing golf. Sometimes maybe not okay,
- 51:50maybe somebody's dying and he's had to rush to their
- 51:52hospital bed. But somebody could offer the sacraments to those
- 51:56who need them, you know, on not just an individual basis,
- 52:02because yeah, you can always call. I mean, just like
- 52:04you know, if you're sick or dying, he'll come out.
- 52:07Or if you need to make a special confession, you
- 52:09can make an appointment.
- 52:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Certainly, not a lack of caring. It's just a lack
- 52:15of understanding the needs of regular people. But anyway, just
- 52:20my opinion, take it for what it is, grain assault.
- 52:22I'm not even a member of that parish. It's just
- 52:24where I've had to spend the winter. Things are very
- 52:26different at home up in Limville and Boon and all
- 52:30that good. Much younger priests that seem to be much more.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Motivated.
- 52:41Speaker 2: Maybe that's it, you know, maybe when a priests as
- 52:44a certain age, you just wants to sit in Lutch
- 52:47television or something. I don't know, not my place. Maybe
- 52:50he's doing great things. Maybe he's praying a lot and reading,
- 52:53you know, great spiritual books. Maybe he's writing a great
- 52:56spiritual book. I'm not here a judge, but do you know,
- 53:00check the fruit on the vine, as they say. Anyway,
- 53:05y'all have a great week and I'll talk to you
- 53:08next time. M
