- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter six, The wise Man Pandita. If you see an
- 0:07Speaker 1: intelligent man who tells you where true treasures are to
- 0:10Speaker 1: be found, who shows what is to be avoided, and
- 0:15Speaker 1: administers reproofs, follow that wise man. It will be better,
- 0:21Speaker 1: not worse, for those who follow him. Let him admonish,
- 0:27Speaker 1: let him teach, Let him forbid what is improper. He
- 0:31Speaker 1: will be beloved of the good. By the bad, he
- 0:34Speaker 1: will be hated. Do not have evil doers for friends.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Do not have low people. For friends, have virtuous people.
- 0:45Speaker 1: For friends have for friends the best of men. He
- 0:53Speaker 1: who drinks in the law lives happily with a serene mind.
- 0:58Speaker 1: The sage rejoices always in the law, as preached by
- 1:02Speaker 1: the elect arias well. Makers lead the water wherever they like.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Fletchers bend the arrow, Carpenters bend a log of wood.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Wise people fashion themselves as a solid rock is not
- 1:23Speaker 1: shaken by the wind. Wise people falter not amidst blame
- 1:28Speaker 1: and praise. Wise people, after they have listened to the laws,
- 1:35Speaker 1: become serene like a deep, smooth and still lake. Good
- 1:43Speaker 1: people walk on whatever befall the good. Do not prattle
- 1:49Speaker 1: longing for pleasure, whether touched by happiness or sorrow. Wise
- 1:55Speaker 1: people never appear elated or depressed. If, whether for his
- 2:02Speaker 1: own sake or for the sake of others, a man
- 2:06Speaker 1: wishes neither for a son, nor for wealth, nor for lordship.
- 2:12Speaker 1: And if he does not wish for his own success
- 2:14Speaker 1: by unfair means, then he is good, wise, and virtuous.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Few are there among men who arrive at the other
- 2:26Speaker 1: shore become our hats. The other people here run up
- 2:31Speaker 1: and down the shore. But those who, when the law
- 2:36Speaker 1: has been well preached to them, follow the law, will
- 2:40Speaker 1: pass across the dominion of death, however difficult to overcome.
- 2:48Speaker 1: A wise man should leave the dark state of ordinary
- 2:51Speaker 1: life and follow the bright state of the victu After
- 2:57Speaker 1: going from his home to a homeless state, he should,
- 3:01Speaker 1: in his retirement, look for enjoyment where there seemed to
- 3:05Speaker 1: be no enjoyment, leaving all pleasures behind and calling nothing
- 3:12Speaker 1: his own. The wise man should purge himself from all
- 3:16Speaker 1: the troubles of the mind. Those whose mind is well
- 3:22Speaker 1: grounded in the seven elements of knowledge, who without clinging
- 3:27Speaker 1: to anything, rejoice in freedom from attachment, whose appetites have
- 3:33Speaker 1: been conquered, and who are full of light, are free
- 3:38Speaker 1: even in this world. End of chapter six,
