- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili Mornings on demand on ninety seven point
- 0:04Speaker 1: one wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Toby and Chilly in the Morning ninety's seven point one
- 0:07Speaker 2: wash FM, Good morning, it's Kiddoshe hope you're Thursday's off
- 0:11Speaker 2: to a great start.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Do you seem to have a little pep in your steps?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Sir Chili. I woke up this morning and I looked
- 0:16Speaker 2: in the mirror and I said, oh, wow, you slept well.
- 0:19Speaker 2: How can you tell that you slept well? I can
- 0:21Speaker 2: tell when my hair is really a mess because it
- 0:25Speaker 2: shows that I slept hard. I was intensely pushed up
- 0:29Speaker 2: against my pillow in a way that I'm not normally
- 0:32Speaker 2: because I'm a light sleeper.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Wait, see, to me, that would be opposite. When my
- 0:36Speaker 3: hair is a mess like a big rats you know, yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 3: bird's nest, it means I tossed and turned all night.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I means I didn't see Sully. When I wake up
- 0:45Speaker 3: and my hair looks like it's still freshly blown out, yeah,
- 0:48Speaker 3: then I know I probably didn't move much. That's interesting
- 0:51Speaker 3: that it's different for you.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Because it's just one side that is.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So it's just that it's all messy on one side,
- 0:57Speaker 2: because usually I can get up and just go. I
- 0:59Speaker 2: don't have to take a shower in the morning, but
- 1:01Speaker 2: I had to take a shower. It takes I will
- 1:03Speaker 2: not look right if I walk in and Chili's like,
- 1:06Speaker 2: what happened?
- 1:07Speaker 3: We do a whole reset. Yeah, no, well, I'm glad
- 1:09Speaker 3: to hear that.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe it was all the full moons. I hope
- 1:13Speaker 2: you slept well as well, and we're glad you're here
- 1:15Speaker 2: on this Thursday morning. Chili's working on top stories coming
- 1:18Speaker 2: up next.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Big travel disruptions coming. There are plans to reduce air
- 1:23Speaker 3: traffic by ten percent at major airports, including all three
- 1:27Speaker 3: here in the DMB. More on that than just a few.
- 1:33Speaker 5: Top stories Top of the Hour.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Federal officials plan to cut the number of US flights
- 1:38Speaker 3: starting tomorrow because of staffing shortages caused by the government shutdown.
- 1:42Speaker 3: The FAA will reduce air traffic by ten percent at
- 1:46Speaker 3: forty major airports. This will impact all three major airports
- 1:50Speaker 3: in the DC area. The Supreme Court will decide if
- 1:54Speaker 3: the president's tariffs are legal. The justices heard arguments yesterday
- 1:59Speaker 3: after the High Court to fast track the case. The
- 2:02Speaker 3: NTSB is investigating what caused that ups plane to crash
- 2:05Speaker 3: and erupt into flames in Louisville earlier this week, killing
- 2:09Speaker 3: at least twelve people and injuring fifteen, officials say. The
- 2:12Speaker 3: video footage shows the plane's left engine detaching from the
- 2:16Speaker 3: wing shortly after takeoff. Engineers are beginning crucial load tests
- 2:21Speaker 3: for Baltimore's Key Bridge, marks a major step in the
- 2:25Speaker 3: rebuild after last year's collapse. The tests will check whether
- 2:29Speaker 3: the riverbed can support the bridge's foundation, with full construction
- 2:32Speaker 3: expected to begin either late this year or early next year.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Washington Cap star Alex Ovechkin has officially become the first
- 2:40Speaker 3: player in NHL history to score nine hundred goals. He
- 2:45Speaker 3: reached the milestone last night with the goal against the
- 2:49Speaker 3: Saint Louis Blues in the second period of a six
- 2:52Speaker 3: to one victory. And finally, according to a recent study,
- 2:57Speaker 3: the most stressful job in America belongs to two flight attendants.
- 3:01Speaker 3: The role combines jet lag, irregular hours, difficult passengers, safety responsibilities,
- 3:07Speaker 3: as well as long term health risks. Forecasts for today,
- 3:10Speaker 3: Sonny much cooler today. I is only fifty eight right now,
- 3:13Speaker 3: forty seven in Oakton.
- 3:14Speaker 2: All right, let's get this Thursday off to a great
- 3:16Speaker 2: start with our morning mindset and inspirational quote to get
- 3:19Speaker 2: us all going as we get one step closer to
- 3:21Speaker 2: the weekend. Chili has that coming up next, plus more
- 3:23Speaker 2: music for your Thursday drive in with ninety seven point
- 3:26Speaker 2: one wash FM. Great feel good song from Phil Collins
- 3:29Speaker 2: on ninety seven point one wash FM with Toby and
- 3:31Speaker 2: Chile in the morning. I'm kiddoshay time for our morning mindset.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Well, this quote is really going to make me sound
- 3:39Speaker 3: hypocritical because I wish I could follow this advice. William
- 3:44Speaker 3: James said the greatest weapon against stress is our ability
- 3:48Speaker 3: to choose one thought over another, basically saying we have
- 3:51Speaker 3: more control over our stress than we might think because
- 3:53Speaker 3: it often comes from the way we think about the situations,
- 3:56Speaker 3: not just about the situations. So if we could all
- 3:59Speaker 3: pause and decide to focus on a helpful, positive or
- 4:03Speaker 3: calming thought instead of letting our mind spiral into worry,
- 4:08Speaker 3: we can reduce our stress. It's like having an inner
- 4:11Speaker 3: remote control.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Kid, I love that.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Change the channel on your thoughts, You control that remote.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, So, William James said, the greatest weapon against stress
- 4:22Speaker 3: is our ability to choose one thought over another. Easier
- 4:27Speaker 3: said than done. But possible. Yeah, just keep that in
- 4:30Speaker 3: mind as you take on the rest of your day,
- 4:31Speaker 3: and you can find that quote by following us on
- 4:35Speaker 3: our Instagram page washfm. You can also find it on
- 4:37Speaker 3: the Toby and Chili page at washefm dot com.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Today the quote actually helps Chili and you can see
- 4:43Speaker 2: it as she was presenting it, which I love.
- 4:44Speaker 4: All right.
- 4:45Speaker 2: We love sharing our morning mindset with you every morning
- 4:47Speaker 2: here coming up next. Yesterday we told you about a
- 4:49Speaker 2: new report that says most of us have just four
- 4:52Speaker 2: close friends, which is down from nine a decade ago.
- 4:56Speaker 2: So we want to know if this is true for
- 4:57Speaker 2: you and was there a reason those friendships ended eight
- 5:00Speaker 2: six six nine two seven four three six one eight
- 5:04Speaker 2: six six wash FM one to join the conversation journey
- 5:07Speaker 2: and open arms is ninety seven point one WASHEFM with
- 5:10Speaker 2: Toby and Chilly in the morning.
- 5:11Speaker 4: I'm kidoshe.
- 5:12Speaker 2: What is the reason you have fewer friends today than
- 5:15Speaker 2: you did a decade ago? Eight six six nine two
- 5:17Speaker 2: seven four three six one. Here's why we're talking about it.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Apparently, the average American now reports having just four close friends,
- 5:24Speaker 3: and over the past decade they've lost about nine friendships
- 5:28Speaker 3: and it's mainly because they've moved away, major life changes,
- 5:32Speaker 3: or one person simply stopped contacting the other.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it's tough. What about you, Chili?
- 5:38Speaker 3: This does hold true for me. I may even have
- 5:42Speaker 3: about four, maybe less than four, close friends right now.
- 5:46Speaker 3: It's harder to make new friends as you get older. Yeah,
- 5:48Speaker 3: and the reason I've lost touch with a lot of
- 5:51Speaker 3: friends over the past decade is not because of anything
- 5:54Speaker 3: they did or said, but because we entered different phases
- 5:58Speaker 3: in our life. Yeah, and maybe we'll reconnect again in
- 6:01Speaker 3: the future. But that's what about you?
- 6:03Speaker 4: I would say.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the older I get, the harder it
- 6:06Speaker 2: is to I hate to say this care I don't
- 6:09Speaker 2: have the mental bandwidth to handle more than four friends.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I can barely handle me. True, you know, so I
- 6:15Speaker 2: can't be a good friend. It's me, it's not you.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Liz in falls Church, Welcome to the conversation. What would
- 6:21Speaker 2: you say? What is the reason you have fewer friends
- 6:23Speaker 2: today than you did a decade ago?
- 6:25Speaker 6: Honestly, it was just a combination of feeling drained by
- 6:28Speaker 6: constant negativity and realizing.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Our lives we're just moving in different directions.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't know how to address it, so I
- 6:35Speaker 6: just stopped responding. It wasn't my proudest moment, but sometimes
- 6:39Speaker 6: avoiding conflicts just feels a lot easier.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Oh, I hear you. That's so true, that negative energy.
- 6:46Speaker 3: You don't you just want to protect your own peace.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And at the end of the day, it's like, I
- 6:50Speaker 2: just think we just shouldn't talk anymore. Gust and silver Spring,
- 6:54Speaker 2: good morning.
- 6:55Speaker 7: I ended a friendship because he insulted my wife. Ah,
- 6:58Speaker 7: the line nobody gets away with that. How do you
- 7:00Speaker 7: think you're going to insult my wife and then just
- 7:03Speaker 7: go on like nothing happened.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Thanks Gus.
- 7:05Speaker 3: That is good for you for standing up for your
- 7:08Speaker 3: wife though and choosing her over a friend.
- 7:11Speaker 2: But it is how it's your friendship slowly end over time,
- 7:15Speaker 2: and so I think we're all going through this. We've
- 7:16Speaker 2: got a lot of phone lines lit up right now.
- 7:18Speaker 2: We'll get to more of your calls coming up after
- 7:20Speaker 2: six o'clock if you want to join the conversation eight
- 7:22Speaker 2: six six nine two seven four three six one. Chili's

- 11:04Speaker 7: about me behind my oh things, stupid terrible things about
- 11:08Speaker 7: me that weren't even true. He was making stuff up
- 11:11Speaker 7: about me, saying things about my other friends. I just
- 11:13Speaker 7: gopped talking to him and I haven't heard from them
- 11:15Speaker 7: years and I don't care if I ever do again.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Was very high school. Yeah, exactly, I've grown past that
- 11:22Speaker 3: stage of gossip and rumored.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Goodbye, Chrissy from DC, what about you.
- 11:28Speaker 8: I had to end a friendship because it started to
- 11:30Speaker 8: feel really one sided, like I was always the one
- 11:32Speaker 8: checking in, supporting them and showing up, but when I
- 11:36Speaker 8: needed something silence. Eventually I realized I was just exhausting
- 11:41Speaker 8: myself trying to keep something alive that they had already
- 11:45Speaker 8: let go of.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Yes, we all have been there.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Yeah, there's actually one friend she just reminded me. I
- 11:52Speaker 3: was like, I wonder if I stopped reaching out and
- 11:54Speaker 3: initiating getting together, if I would ever hear from them.
- 11:57Speaker 3: And it's been thirteen years.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Shelby and Chili's nearly impossible question.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Guess it answered that question for you. What is today's
