- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next to you.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Welcome back
- 0:13Speaker 1: to work and school after a long weekend, and Joakim,
- 0:16Speaker 1: why do you look so exhausted today? How did I
- 0:19Speaker 1: even make this show is what I want to know.
- 0:21Speaker 1: After my two times half marathon. Wow. What time was
- 0:24Speaker 1: that yesterday? 4:15 a.m. OK lah, you got time to rest,
- 0:28Speaker 1: one hit music station.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Long Shot with Vanilla Days, a brand new track right
- 0:36Speaker 1: here on 987, Singapore's number one hit music station, but
- 0:39Speaker 1: it's anything except Vanilla Days right now. It's Rainy Days. Um, I,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I really feel for you if you're up this early
- 0:45Speaker 1: because earlier on when I was on the way, I
- 0:48Speaker 1: actually saw a lady get caught in the very, very
- 0:51Speaker 1: heavy rain. It was really it was like a typhoon
- 0:54Speaker 1: out there. And honestly, it was a very scary drive
- 0:56Speaker 1: to work this morning.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Um, this lady that was walking at the sidewalk as
- 1:01Speaker 1: I was driving, she was holding onto an umbrella really tightly,
- 1:04Speaker 1: like for her life, right? And midway through her walk
- 1:07Speaker 1: down the slope, she decided to turn back. I think
- 1:09Speaker 1: she was like, forget it. I'm, I'm gonna be drenched
- 1:12Speaker 1: by the time she gets to there, I'm not sure
- 1:13Speaker 1: where she was going, bus stop probably or, or the
- 1:15Speaker 1: train station.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so I felt for that lady. If you're awake
- 1:19Speaker 1: right now, I know it's a tough one this morning,
- 1:21Speaker 1: but we'll be with you every step of the way.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Joakim's gone on down to get his breakfast. First thing
- 1:25Speaker 1: when he got up here, he was like, I need
- 1:27Speaker 1: to go get some food. Don't know what he got,
- 1:29Speaker 1: but it's been a while, so he'll be back soon,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I hope.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Coming up in just a few minutes, um, I would
- 1:34Speaker 1: love to wake you up with actual physical coffee, which
- 1:37Speaker 1: I just made, smells so good. Just the smell of
- 1:39Speaker 1: it is, uh, has given me some life, but this
- 1:43Speaker 1: might just be a little bit of a rude shock
- 1:45Speaker 1: to you this morning. It's related to tea and coffee.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But it's also related to the prices over at certain
- 1:51Speaker 1: coffee shops. Joakim has been gone for a total of,
- 1:55Speaker 1: I don't know how many minutes now. What happened, bro?
- 1:57Speaker 1: I apologize. What went on? I think I was solo
- 2:00Speaker 1: for like 20 minutes. The first vending machine I went to,
- 2:03Speaker 1: it's spoiled. So, it's not working, is it? the sandwich.
- 2:07Speaker 1: The machine needs to be fixed. Went to level 9
- 2:10Speaker 1: for the salad machine. OK, so you ended up getting
- 2:14Speaker 1: cold food when initially you're like, I need something hot
- 2:19Speaker 1: and I went to vending machine hunting here in Media. Yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 1: I mean, look, I, I have to say our vending machines,
- 2:24Speaker 1: we do have quite a few.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It's just that because it's the only one of the
- 2:29Speaker 1: only things available to us at this time of morning,
- 2:31Speaker 1: especially because it's raining very heavily today. Yeah, that's why,
- 2:34Speaker 1: you know, sometimes we get sick of it lah. That's
- 2:35Speaker 1: what we're saying. I wouldn't do this right now. I doubt, yeah, don't,
- 2:42Speaker 1: don't accept this order right now. By the way, if
- 2:45Speaker 1: you're on the road, and I'm pretty sure said this already,
- 2:48Speaker 1: please drive safely. Even my cab, it skidded for a bit.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, as long as he was alert
- 2:54Speaker 1: and you know, it's quite normal to skid sometimes, so
- 2:57Speaker 1: just got to be careful as a driver. I know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: at least that woke you up, right? Something else that
- 3:03Speaker 1: could wake you up as well. It's not the best news,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but I understand why it's happening and it was bound
- 3:08Speaker 1: to happen. So earlier on while you were away, I
- 3:11Speaker 1: said that, you know, I was making my coffee, but
- 3:14Speaker 1: then the timing was just impeccable because this article popped up.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Some coffee shops here in Singapore are about to raise
- 3:21Speaker 1: prices of their coffee and tea by between 10 to
- 3:25Speaker 1: 30 cents because of rising costs, as we know. It
- 3:28Speaker 1: has officially hit our kopitiams and our coffee shops, Jokim,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and you know that things are getting serious when that happens. Now,
- 3:35Speaker 1: not all coffee shops are doing it. Um, a lot
- 3:37Speaker 1: of the big coffee shops are saying they will monitor
- 3:40Speaker 1: the situation first because they understand, yes, the costs are rising,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and if it's rising for them, where else?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Can they put it except in their prices, right? I mean,
- 3:47Speaker 1: I understand, I understand that. And also don't be surprised
- 3:50Speaker 1: if you see your bottled or canned drinks going up
- 3:53Speaker 1: by 10 cents to maybe 50 or 60 cents because
- 3:57Speaker 1: of the new return scheme and the machines are actually
- 3:59Speaker 1: all over the neighborhood already. So, um, just a shout
- 4:03Speaker 1: out to Sheng Yuan Coffee Shop in McPherson. They were
- 4:06Speaker 1: one of the first ones that put up a notice
- 4:07Speaker 1: about the price hike, right? But I don't know why
- 4:10Speaker 1: they picked 1st of April to put it lah. I
- 4:12Speaker 1: wonder if people thought I must be joking.
- 4:15Speaker 1: OK, to all PR agencies and any business organization or
- 4:19Speaker 1: F&B or what to put an announcement out on the
- 4:22Speaker 1: 1st of April, you are really taking a risk with it, OK.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Either that or it's perfect marketing because people are speculating,
- 4:29Speaker 1: prank or is this real? Maybe, maybe, but anyway, it's
- 4:32Speaker 1: since been picked up by the news over the weekend.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So just a note, if you're going to your nearest
- 4:36Speaker 1: coffee shop and you're used to a certain price, it
- 4:39Speaker 1: may have increased. And if you're back at work today.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And don't get a rude shock. That's all I'm saying. Well, just, OK,
- 4:44Speaker 1: how much? $2. Actually, some places are really charging like that.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Depends on where you are. At a coffee shop. Depends.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Like if it's, you know, in town or the CBD,
- 4:56Speaker 1: then you know, you expect that kind of Still beats
- 5:00Speaker 1: like a $9 matcha, man. I mean, that's crazy, right? Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 1: We know it's an incredibly tough morning to wake up to.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Don't worry, we got you covered in about 10 minutes.
- 5:10Speaker 1: We're going to open up phone lines. I think this
- 5:11Speaker 1: is going to be extra good for you this morning
- 5:13Speaker 1: to just give a shout out to your friends, to
- 5:16Speaker 1: your school, request for a song that will jolt you
- 5:18Speaker 1: awake this morning. The only thing I don't enjoy about
- 5:22Speaker 1: the rain, you don't enjoy it, it was about 2,
- 5:25Speaker 1: it was during my time in secondary school and primary school, right?
- 5:28Speaker 1: Whenever it rains in the morning, especially on a Monday
- 5:31Speaker 1: or Wednesday, it'll be super humid. I'll be angry. You
- 5:33Speaker 1: know why? PE is canceled. Oh, I'll be super happy.
- 5:37Speaker 1: We're opposites. I'll be like, who, I don't have to
- 5:40Speaker 1: perspire today in the football, the games, the running. Oh,
- 5:45Speaker 1: that does not sound like anything I did.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Did I ever say I was like, my friend and I,
- 5:50Speaker 1: I remember she's, her name's Abby, she doesn't live in
- 5:53Speaker 1: Singapore anymore, but both of us are like the most
- 5:55Speaker 1: petite people of our class, right? Yeah, we're always the
- 5:58Speaker 1: last people to get selected for any team sports like netball,
- 6:01Speaker 1: captain's ball, whatever. You know why? The girls always say
- 6:04Speaker 1: we count you all as one person. Can I ask though, for,
- 6:09Speaker 1: for a girls' school, right?
- 6:11Speaker 1: What's PE like for you? Um, what we had, they
- 6:14Speaker 1: did captain's ball, netball, you know, there were certain, sometimes
- 6:17Speaker 1: if we are training for like or something we have running,
- 6:20Speaker 1: but it was quite OK. We didn't really do like football. Yeah,
- 6:24Speaker 1: we didn't have, we're not strong in football, but there was,
- 6:27Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure, a team like a club or something. Yeah. No,
- 6:31Speaker 1: but we were never really that strong with sports, but
- 6:34Speaker 1: the netball girls were not.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Um, what else did we have? Well, a lot more
- 6:39Speaker 1: performing arts than sports, if anything, netball was probably one
- 6:42Speaker 1: of our strongest sports if you ask me, and tennis, tennis, yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 1: The tennis girls were quite, quite, uh, quite fit as well.
- 6:48Speaker 1: This one tennis. It's Jake with clouds right here on 987,
- 6:54Speaker 1: which we are coincidentally surrounded by this morning. I think
- 6:57Speaker 1: really heavy rains.
- 6:59Speaker 1: All round or either that it could be really overcast
- 7:01Speaker 1: and cloudy in your end. Whatever it is, we're here
- 7:03Speaker 1: to make sure that you get to school, get to
- 7:05Speaker 1: work on time, get you energized by calling us 669-11987.
- 7:10Speaker 1: You can actually request for the song that you want.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Brand new week. It's a five-day work week. Business as
- 7:15Speaker 1: usual here in Singapore, but I think the next public
- 7:19Speaker 1: holiday will be Labor Day, May 1st.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Hm, yes, you're right. Mother's Day is not a public holiday, right?
- 7:27Speaker 1: Mother's Day were a public holiday, the entire world was
- 7:30Speaker 1: shut down for a day. I mean, look, I, I
- 7:33Speaker 1: think Mother's Day should be a public holiday because they
- 7:38Speaker 1: sacrifice and do so much for your kids, right? In
- 7:40Speaker 1: that case, if somebody were to say, I agree, how
- 7:42Speaker 1: about Father's Day holiday.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Hey, I'm just helping us out, man, like, you know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: gathering those public holidays. Why not, right? You know, even
- 7:55Speaker 1: though it's a public holiday for Father's Day and Mother's Day,
- 7:57Speaker 1: if they implement it, right, it rules out. It does
- 8:00Speaker 1: rule us out. And you know what, I just thought
- 8:01Speaker 1: about this. What if the moms and dads out there
- 8:04Speaker 1: don't actually want a public holiday because once they have
- 8:08Speaker 1: a public holiday, they don't rest. They have to entertain
- 8:11Speaker 1: their kids.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So it may not be a worthwhile kind of thing
- 8:14Speaker 1: at all. Only for the moms. The rest go back
- 8:16Speaker 1: to go back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Anyway, we want
- 8:19Speaker 1: to open up phone lines 669-11987. We'd love to hear
- 8:22Speaker 1: from you. And also you can give a shout out
- 8:25Speaker 1: to your school. Tell us which school you're from, maybe
- 8:28Speaker 1: tell your friends hi on air and request for a
- 8:31Speaker 1: song as well. Why not? Let us know if there's
- 8:33Speaker 1: any weighted assessments as they call it.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Now, let us know our common test. I don't know
- 8:37Speaker 1: what's the term anymore and we're about to head to
- 8:40Speaker 1: the phone lines very soon. We understand it's a very
- 8:42Speaker 1: tough morning to wake up to. We get it. Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 1: but something to perk you up very soon here on
- 8:47Speaker 1: the shock circuit, maybe say in about 30 minutes' time.
- 8:49Speaker 1: How about playing for $7000 when it comes to 987
- 8:55Speaker 1: Secret sound. Yes, we have snowballed. We're now.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Heading into the big money territory as if $5000 and
- 9:02Speaker 1: $6000 were not enough. Sonia. OK, so let's just say
- 9:05Speaker 1: you want the $7000. What, what's the first thing you
- 9:07Speaker 1: would do? Invest in what I will do my best
- 9:10Speaker 1: to invest in some stock or something and learn, read
- 9:13Speaker 1: up on some business finance knowledge and do it. Maybe
- 9:16Speaker 1: put half in there and grow it to maybe 10,000
- 9:18Speaker 1: in the future if possible. We'll see.
- 9:21Speaker 1: In this, uh, interesting times that we have around the world.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I know. But of course, at this moment here on
- 9:26Speaker 1: the show, 669-119-87, call us and give us your shout
- 9:31Speaker 1: out to your favorite school or to a school that
- 9:33Speaker 1: you're going to here in Singapore. It can be primary, secondary, JC, uni, ITE,
- 9:39Speaker 1: any level.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Let us know and tell us something fantastic about your
- 9:44Speaker 1: school or let us know if there's any weighted assessments
- 9:46Speaker 1: coming up very soon. So far last week, what were
- 9:48Speaker 1: some schools that we got actually? Yeah, um, I'm looking
- 9:51Speaker 1: at some of the schools that we got last week.
- 9:54Speaker 1: We got A Tong and oh no, what?
- 10:00Speaker 1: You didn't take it down.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You forgot to take it down. We had, we had NTU,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I think. NTU. Was it NTU or SMU? Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Now let's find out who's gonna be, um, giving a
- 10:13Speaker 1: shout out today heading to the phone lines now. Hello,
- 10:15Speaker 1: good morning. Good morning, Ra. Hello, Rayal. You sound like
- 10:19Speaker 1: you're out right now and it might be raining. Where
- 10:21Speaker 1: are you at where are you headed? I'm headed to Serangoon.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And it's currently like drizzling. It's drizzling drizzling, yeah. And
- 10:28Speaker 1: what school are you from, Rao? I'm from Chonghua Secondary.c. OK,
- 10:32Speaker 1: what's so good about Chongsec, man? What's your favorite part
- 10:34Speaker 1: about your school? Like there's AP program which is special.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And what do these programs do again? It's Art elective program, AP.
- 10:45Speaker 1: That's what he was saying earlier, yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 1: any exams or tests coming up for you? Oh yes,
- 10:55Speaker 1: exams assessments. Week 4, week 5. OK, OK. Well, all
- 11:00Speaker 1: the best for that. Now what song can we get
- 11:02Speaker 1: you and who is it going out to today? I'm
- 11:04Speaker 1: a big fan of Taylor Swift and I hope to
- 11:07Speaker 1: go to a concert one.
- 11:09Speaker 1: In the future. Fantastic. I'll get you a song from
- 11:12Speaker 1: Taylor Swift and you have a great day, OK, Rayal.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Take care. Bye-bye. Now, this isn't categorized under Bodo crime, OK?
- 11:20Speaker 1: If you've just joined the show, you just tuned into us.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Border Crime is a segment where we cover ridiculous crimes,
- 11:26Speaker 1: especially here in Singapore, that make us face palm, but
- 11:29Speaker 1: nothing serious, no one gets hurt.
- 11:32Speaker 1: No one, you know, untoward happens to anyone. But don't worry,
- 11:36Speaker 1: I'm very happy to report that later on there will be.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I have news that happened here in Singapore and you're
- 11:43Speaker 1: gonna sing the jingle. I will, I will, but for
- 11:44Speaker 1: this one, I actually, I feel for this person involved
- 11:48Speaker 1: more than anything else, OK. So this happened over in
- 11:51Speaker 1: the UK.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Um, and it's a supermarket chain that it happened in, OK,
- 11:55Speaker 1: one of those, like, I guess our equivalent of NTUC
- 11:58Speaker 1: here in Singapore or something. Waiting for the person involved,
- 12:04Speaker 1: the victim or perpetrator.
- 12:06Speaker 1: The person is not a victim. It's the person who
- 12:08Speaker 1: tried to stop the shoplifter, OK? It's a staff member.
- 12:13Speaker 1: So yeah, no, no, no, not hurt, but here's what happened.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Just hear me out first. So this, um, supermarket is,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know, one of those big ones you can get
- 12:21Speaker 1: Easter eggs from, you know, those Easter egg chocolates and
- 12:23Speaker 1: all that, right? And I mean, it's the time, Easter
- 12:25Speaker 1: is the time of love and family and happiness. You're
- 12:29Speaker 1: supposed to have a joyous Easter weekend, right? And I
- 12:31Speaker 1: think in the UK it's quite big actually, you know,
- 12:33Speaker 1: UK and America, they've got a lot of Easter celebrations.
- 12:36Speaker 1: There was this shoplifter that came in, tried to steal
- 12:39Speaker 1: some items from, from the supermarket.
- 12:43Speaker 1: This employee of 17 years, working for a long time
- 12:46Speaker 1: at this supermarket chain, tried to stop the shoplifter from
- 12:50Speaker 1: exiting and getting away.
- 12:54Speaker 1: In a twist of events, this employee of 17 years
- 12:58Speaker 1: got fired for apparently throwing a piece of Easter chocolate
- 13:03Speaker 1: at the shoplifter while he was getting away. So he
- 13:06Speaker 1: was trying to stop the guy. So he used a
- 13:09Speaker 1: chocolate threw at the guy tried to stop him. He
- 13:11Speaker 1: got fired instead. What on earth? Why? He was there
- 13:15Speaker 1: for 17 years over in, in London. He's been working
- 13:18Speaker 1: for so long. OK, this supermarket chain.
- 13:22Speaker 1: It's a big supermarket chain, by the way, I don't
- 13:24Speaker 1: want to say what. Yeah, so, um, it's just, it's
- 13:29Speaker 1: just weird. I, I don't really know why, um, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: he was stopped. I mean, I think they were in
- 13:34Speaker 1: a struggle. Maybe the, the supermarket chain said like, oh,
- 13:38Speaker 1: you damaged the goods or something, but he was trying
- 13:40Speaker 1: to stop the shoplifting.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So if you're not supposed to stop the shoplifter, what
- 13:45Speaker 1: are you supposed to do? Let him go? I don't know, man.
- 13:47Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens. I think, um, he was
- 13:50Speaker 1: told off by the manager, um, the matter escalated despite
- 13:54Speaker 1: his apology. I think, you know, he, he must have
- 13:57Speaker 1: damaged the chocolates and he also threw it to the
- 13:59Speaker 1: ground out of frustration, so.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Why not just make him pay for the chocolates? I
- 14:02Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know how to, I don't know
- 14:09Speaker 1: where exactly, but I can tell you um what what
- 14:14Speaker 1: supermarket it was. It's quite an upmarket 10 yeah, it's
- 14:18Speaker 1: a more upmarket supermarket. I was gonna say Tesco.
- 14:20Speaker 1: No, it's not Tesco. It's a little more, a little
- 14:23Speaker 1: bit more upmarket than that. It's our like finest, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 1: like finest selections or something. It's Waitrose in London, where
- 14:30Speaker 1: you've never, because you never go shop at the Attas one.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I'm more of a Tesco boy. Go and buy my
- 14:35Speaker 1: cereal and milk and some TVs. Yeah, I love Tesco, man. It,
- 14:39Speaker 1: it's great. It's just like.
- 14:40Speaker 1: What are those in the US as well? The Walmart, Costco, Walmart, yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 1: all the big ones. I love them. So fun. The
- 14:48Speaker 1: Easter weekend here in Singapore for the year 2026 would
- 14:52Speaker 1: always be known as workout weekend, except for me, I didn't.
- 14:56Speaker 1: You know what, it's OK whether you went to the
- 14:57Speaker 1: Pilates studio or yoga studio, had a paddle game, or
- 15:01Speaker 1: you did the two big main events here in Singapore,
- 15:04Speaker 1: high rocks or 2 times you. Let's.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Summarize it in just a bit here on the shock circuit.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So you forgot about Jesus rising. Hey, I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I went to mass yesterday, and can I just share, OK,
- 15:16Speaker 1: so if you're not familiar with Catholic mass proceedings, there's
- 15:19Speaker 1: a segment in the mass where they call the offer
- 15:22Speaker 1: tree where they will pick two people to carry the
- 15:25Speaker 1: bread and the water and wine and offer it to
- 15:27Speaker 1: the priests, you know, representing the world's offerings to God,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and they consecrate the gifts and all that.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Guess who was selected yesterday on Easter Sunday? You and
- 15:36Speaker 1: your mom. My mom, my mom and I. She was
- 15:39Speaker 1: so happy. Did she like try to get their attention
- 15:42Speaker 1: in the beginning, we went into church and then the
- 15:44Speaker 1: wardens came to us saying, You want to do offer 3?
- 15:47Speaker 1: My mom's like, Yes, let's do it. What was your expression?
- 15:50Speaker 1: I was like, Mom, my hand burned.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Let me check now. I see, I think I see
- 15:56Speaker 1: a mark there somewhere. So where were you during workout
- 16:00Speaker 1: weekend here in Singapore? OK, OK. In my defense, Friday night,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I was playing paddle, my first game back after I
- 16:08Speaker 1: sprained my ankle, which I gave you the ice. I
- 16:10Speaker 1: was OK. I wore the, I wore the ankle guard. Yeah,
- 16:13Speaker 1: and I, I spiked my smoothie, so I was, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 1: more relaxed, and then.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Oh, it doesn't work that way. It does. Next time
- 16:22Speaker 1: if you join a paddle game, you realize that it's
- 16:23Speaker 1: more than just sports. I mean, the group of people
- 16:26Speaker 1: who are very serious about it, and they're the social
- 16:28Speaker 1: players like, like myself. Yeah, you'll be at the social players,
- 16:32Speaker 1: social players, yeah, so players club.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Like you haven't even played record sports in how long?
- 16:37Speaker 1: I'll take it seriously. I am taking it seriously. Doesn't
- 16:40Speaker 1: mean you drink a spiked soda, but spiked smoothie smooth
- 16:44Speaker 1: got nutritional benefits also. Oh really? Yeah, it's got fruits
- 16:47Speaker 1: and vegetables. Anyway, of course, Sonia playing pedal on Friday.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Good for you.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Saw the Insta stories, but look, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday,
- 16:56Speaker 1: it was high rocks weekend here in Singapore, and yesterday,
- 16:59Speaker 1: about what, 24 hours ago, 2 times you, and you're
- 17:03Speaker 1: still walking normally. No, I'm OK. 21 km can still tahan.
- 17:07Speaker 1: 42 km. I might not be here this morning. Yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I might be able to push you into the, I
- 17:12Speaker 1: might need to wheel you into the studio.
- 17:14Speaker 1: No, so I think loads of public personalities here in
- 17:17Speaker 1: Singapore took part in High Rock and of course you.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Shout out to whoever you know. But the one thing
- 17:25Speaker 1: here we go, I have a problem with is, is,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and look, this is not calling out anyone specifically. It's
- 17:33Speaker 1: whenever they say the phrase I had no training for this.
- 17:37Speaker 1: But you don't believe that, right? It's not it's not
- 17:40Speaker 1: I don't believe it. Is it equivalent to like someone
- 17:42Speaker 1: saying I didn't study for exam, then come out A? Yeah, yeah,
- 17:45Speaker 1: not exactly that, but when it comes to something as
- 17:48Speaker 1: physical as high rocks or 2 times you, right, OK,
- 17:51Speaker 1: touch wood, yeah, people have fainted.
- 17:53Speaker 1: People have died from these things. People have had health issues.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Just to clarify, yeah, yeah, yeah, and people also get
- 18:01Speaker 1: sent to the hospital because they didn't listen to their
- 18:04Speaker 1: bodies injuries and stuff. So, so if a public personality says, oh,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I have no training, I know it's a pat on
- 18:09Speaker 1: their backs for having a bit of natural fitness, if
- 18:11Speaker 1: they survive, but if their impressionable followers look at their
- 18:15Speaker 1: video and go, Oh, no training, so I can do.
- 18:19Speaker 1: If something happens, I don't know whether that personality wants
- 18:23Speaker 1: that kind of blood on their hands, you know. I
- 18:25Speaker 1: have a question. You know, when you, I've participated in
- 18:28Speaker 1: any of these big sporting events, right? You have to
- 18:30Speaker 1: sign a form, right? Every single sporting event that you
- 18:34Speaker 1: do indemnity. You are taking on a risk as well,
- 18:37Speaker 1: and the organizers are taking on a risk. And if
- 18:40Speaker 1: you yourself, you don't go through the right training.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Prep yourself well enough, then that's putting yourself at risk.
- 18:46Speaker 1: And as somebody who takes running seriously but not at
- 18:49Speaker 1: an elite level, I'm more of a casual leisure runner, right?
- 18:53Speaker 1: Even before this whole 2x2 21 km, I trained. I
- 18:56Speaker 1: ran about 610 kilometers to prepare my body for a
- 19:00Speaker 1: 21 km, and even so, I hit a wall at
- 19:03Speaker 1: the 15 km because classic Joakim Gomez start too fast.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Oh wow, I hit a wall at 1 km.
- 19:10Speaker 1: So you know what, whatever, whatever you did over the weekend,
- 19:12Speaker 1: congratulations to you. Hopefully, you hit a personal best of
- 19:15Speaker 1: a story to tell your friends and family. I did
- 19:18Speaker 1: hit a literal wall once after 5 km.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Um, it was, it was a bar. OK, I still
- 19:26Speaker 1: think you and I should do a mixed doubles together.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I cannot hear you for us here on 987. We
- 19:30Speaker 1: also have Loose Change. $7000 for you. $7000 called Loose
- 19:34Speaker 1: Chan means you're some billionaire, you know. I mean, definitely
- 19:38Speaker 1: not either one of us. We are a multi-million dollar
- 19:41Speaker 1: radio station, and, yeah, sure thing. In what currency? That's right.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Hey, speaking of which, did you end up, you, you
- 19:51Speaker 1: said that you wanted to buy like 40 for my
- 19:53Speaker 1: car plate number like over the weekend. What happened? Did
- 19:56Speaker 1: you buy it in the end? Did it come out? No,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I didn't check. I didn't.
- 20:01Speaker 1: No, because you told me that you were going to
- 20:02Speaker 1: buy it because of some reason. I can't remember why.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Once again, we don't encourage gambling, but something happened on
- 20:08Speaker 1: Thursday or Friday, and then Joki was like, I'm gonna
- 20:10Speaker 1: buy your car plate number. I've never done this before.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I know why. I know why. I know why. Because Joe,
- 20:17Speaker 1: we were saying that we're gonna throw a paper ball
- 20:20Speaker 1: into the bin. If it gets in, you will strike
- 20:22Speaker 1: 40 this weekend. It's some stupid bet. I can safely
- 20:25Speaker 1: report your car.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Again, lucky.
- 20:32Speaker 1: 87 secret.
- 20:38Speaker 1: sound
- 20:39Speaker 1: Yeah, good morning guys. This is Z.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Zach, sounding so happy this morning. How are you feeling?
- 20:44Speaker 1: I'm feeling good. It's a heavy day now. Yeah, very, right? Zach,
- 20:48Speaker 1: do you think you have the guests that will win
- 20:51Speaker 1: you $7000? I guess so because I don't see people
- 20:55Speaker 1: answering that guest at the moment. Oh, not just yet. OK,
- 20:58Speaker 1: this is a fresh guest. I'm hoping listen very carefully
- 21:01Speaker 1: one more time.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Zach, for $7000 what is a 987's secret sound? It's
- 21:10Speaker 1: a plain lucky stick, you know, the one that they
- 21:13Speaker 1: put in the plain lucky sticks, is that what it is? Yes, yeah,
- 21:18Speaker 1: it's actually at the temple where they come up with,
- 21:22Speaker 1: lucky sticks like fortune sticks very unique. I'm gonna boss
- 21:27Speaker 1: Janice this answer right now. Alright, let's find out if
- 21:31Speaker 1: it's the right one.
- 21:33Speaker 1: You are incorrect.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Chance to play 987's secret sound.
- 21:41Speaker 1: What's that sound
- 21:43Speaker 1: Zack, I must say it is a new guest. Nobody
- 21:46Speaker 1: has said this before. Very unique, but according to boss,
- 21:49Speaker 1: Jenny is not the answer we're looking for, and I
- 21:51Speaker 1: don't think she'll bring in any religious elements to Secret Sound.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I get it. I get it, but that one, I mean.
- 21:58Speaker 1: You can do it as a tourist in Japan also,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I think, like, you know, just at the temple too,
- 22:03Speaker 1: even here in Singapore That's right. Yeah. But anyway, your
- 22:06Speaker 1: name is officially in the big grand draw. No worries
- 22:09Speaker 1: at all. You still win somehow this morning, OK? Have
- 22:12Speaker 1: a great day, Zack.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Do one guess, win big.
- 22:20Speaker 1: What's that sound? So we've been telling you this since
- 22:23Speaker 1: the end of last week. We, together with our friends
- 22:26Speaker 1: over at UOB managed to secure the last few coveted
- 22:30Speaker 1: concert tickets to see Leve live in action.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Totally sold out, by the way. Look, so I caught
- 22:39Speaker 1: her live when she was here in Singapore, I think
- 22:41Speaker 1: 2 years ago at Arena at Expo. Amazing. Yeah, she's
- 22:47Speaker 1: amazing live and she's really a born musician. Yeah, voice
- 22:50Speaker 1: of an angel as well and gifted songwriter. Yeah, so
- 22:53Speaker 1: we want you to be there, you know, don't miss
- 22:55Speaker 1: out this time. Please make sure you call us 66.
- 22:58Speaker 1: 911-987. This entire week, our topics are going to be
- 23:02Speaker 1: inspired by Leve related songs, OK? We're gonna kick off
- 23:06Speaker 1: with the one you just heard, Lovesick. Joakim, I'm sure
- 23:09Speaker 1: you have stories to tell for this one. Do you
- 23:12Speaker 1: still remember the last time you were absolutely heartbroken or lovesick?
- 23:16Speaker 1: Do you remember? OK, I, I will share some of mine,
- 23:19Speaker 1: but it was just
- 23:21Speaker 1: It may seem a bit childish because it was back
- 23:22Speaker 1: then when I was in school I was affected.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Got cry all you've seen me cry a couple of
- 23:34Speaker 1: times over a girl. Why you doing this to me? OK, OK,
- 23:40Speaker 1: I'll share one with you. Um, the last time I recall, the,
- 23:45Speaker 1: the one of the most, I guess, impactful breakups was
- 23:48Speaker 1: one of my, it was my first boyfriend ever from school, OK,
- 23:53Speaker 1: and I, I don't know, maybe I was just very
- 23:55Speaker 1: impressionable back then because I was like 18, you know,
- 23:58Speaker 1: in poly, first proper relationship.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Um, he was 3 years older. He's a senior in
- 24:03Speaker 1: school as well. So I think that, that kind of
- 24:06Speaker 1: like impacted me a lot, and I think my mom
- 24:08Speaker 1: and dad saw me go through that breakup quite, it
- 24:11Speaker 1: was quite tough for them to see it, although they're
- 24:14Speaker 1: the kind of parents that are like, ah, you know,
- 24:15Speaker 1: just let her experience it herself and all that, right?
- 24:17Speaker 1: But I recall there was one, we, we, we broke
- 24:21Speaker 1: up and then got back together and then broke up again,
- 24:23Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong. The second breakup was quite bad
- 24:25Speaker 1: because I thought that it would be for real this time.
- 24:28Speaker 1: And uh I think I, I just sat on the
- 24:30Speaker 1: floor of my room and cried and I refused to
- 24:34Speaker 1: eat or something like that the whole day, but this
- 24:36Speaker 1: was so many years ago I forgot we've all had
- 24:38Speaker 1: that kind of, yeah, it's the kind where like you
- 24:41Speaker 1: just don't want to do anything but listen to some
- 24:42Speaker 1: sad emo songs, you know, but sometimes I feel like
- 24:46Speaker 1: the toughest breakups are the ones where you know you
- 24:50Speaker 1: have to walk away from it. Yeah, yeah, and honestly
- 24:52Speaker 1: we're still sort of in touch with.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Each other's lives in a way like it wasn't a
- 24:56Speaker 1: bad thing. I think I was just too, we were
- 24:58Speaker 1: just too young back then, you know. Alright, so for
- 25:01Speaker 1: you to dig deep, dig deep, there we go and
- 25:05Speaker 1: share with us your stories. How about winning for yourself
- 25:08Speaker 1: a pair of cat 3 tickets worth $436 to the
- 25:13Speaker 1: sold-out show for Lowe A Matter of time tour happening
- 25:18Speaker 1: at 19th of May 2026, and I'm very happy.
- 25:22Speaker 1: It's happening at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Oh yeah, fantastic
- 25:25Speaker 1: sound as well that's going to be there. So give
- 25:27Speaker 1: us a call right now, 669-11987. Do you remember the
- 25:30Speaker 1: last time you were heartbroken or lovesick or if you
- 25:33Speaker 1: have a hilarious breakup story to tell that in hindsight
- 25:37Speaker 1: you're laughing at now, let us know as well. We
- 25:39Speaker 1: would love to hear that and these tickets could be yours.
- 25:42Speaker 1: All throughout the week between 8 to 9 a.m. we're
- 25:45Speaker 1: giving away Leve concert tickets.
- 25:49Speaker 1: And these topics will be inspired by her songs. So
- 25:52Speaker 1: today we're going to kick it off with Lovesick, talking
- 25:54Speaker 1: about some love stories here today. Do you recall the
- 25:57Speaker 1: last time that you were lovesick or you were heartbroken,
- 26:02Speaker 1: or maybe even those breakups where you look back on
- 26:04Speaker 1: it now and you actually laugh about it.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Wanna say good morning to Angeline on WhatsApp. Hey Sonia
- 26:11Speaker 1: and Joakim, this happened a few years back in secondary school.
- 26:14Speaker 1: My crush rejected me. Oh no! And I was crying
- 26:18Speaker 1: for days.
- 26:21Speaker 1: This is not about, this is not a story about Joim, right?
- 26:23Speaker 1: Stop it. I was crying for days, but now when
- 26:25Speaker 1: I look back, I puppy love. Yeah, I mean, look, we,
- 26:29Speaker 1: we wouldn't have known better back then, right? We would
- 26:31Speaker 1: just think that like, OK, this is the worst moment
- 26:33Speaker 1: of my life, and I'll never recover from this. Angeline,
- 26:36Speaker 1: not to worry, you're truly crying over girls in secondary
- 26:39Speaker 1: school as well. I could have formed a new reservoir,
- 26:43Speaker 1: a water catchment area. Where would it be? Bishan or something.
- 26:48Speaker 1: OK, one more jest in from Ali. Hello Ali. You
- 26:52Speaker 1: say morning Soki. I broke up with my girlfriend during
- 26:55Speaker 1: national service. Before you ask. No, it is not the
- 26:58Speaker 1: NS curse. We got together after I POP. We broke
- 27:01Speaker 1: up before I ORD. Reason why we broke up was
- 27:04Speaker 1: I found out I was a backup. Aiya. And then
- 27:08Speaker 1: all this while she was dating me, she always had
- 27:12Speaker 1: someone else in mind.
- 27:13Speaker 1: And when that guy finally showed up, she jumped ship,
- 27:16Speaker 1: leaving me in the dust, and that traumatized me really badly.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I haven't dated anybody since then. It's been 8 years.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that, bro. Ali,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I'm giving you a hug, man. I know exactly how
- 27:29Speaker 1: this feels. Yeah, I mean, look, um, for what it's worth,
- 27:34Speaker 1: at least you dodged a bullet because you don't want
- 27:36Speaker 1: her to do that to you now in like your
- 27:38Speaker 1: adult life. That could be a lot worse, right? OK,
- 27:41Speaker 1: some very sad.
- 27:44Speaker 1: And hard hitting stories on a Monday morning coming in, Sonia.
- 27:47Speaker 1: We're inspired by some of her songs and song titles
- 27:51Speaker 1: as well. Kicking off with your lovesick stories today. Saying
- 27:53Speaker 1: hello to Jay. I fell in love with a close
- 27:56Speaker 1: friend of mine, someone I trusted, someone who knew me
- 28:00Speaker 1: in ways no one else did. Somehow, somewhere along the way,
- 28:03Speaker 1: we kind of got together. It wasn't perfect, but it
- 28:05Speaker 1: was real. But life had other plans, circumstances, timing, everything.
- 28:11Speaker 1: that fell out of our control and would always say,
- 28:14Speaker 1: wrong timing. Eventually, we couldn't be lovers and somehow we
- 28:17Speaker 1: couldn't even be friends anymore. My biggest regret not being
- 28:21Speaker 1: able to hold on to this, not being able to
- 28:23Speaker 1: make it work, not even being able to just exist
- 28:27Speaker 1: in the way of life I wish I could. I
- 28:29Speaker 1: don't know if it's pain or just longing, but the
- 28:32Speaker 1: truth is, a part of me will always miss what
- 28:34Speaker 1: we had and will always wonder what could have been.
- 28:38Speaker 1: At least be that one person that's the what could
- 28:40Speaker 1: have been person. Do you feel like every one of
- 28:43Speaker 1: us will have at least one or two of these
- 28:45Speaker 1: people in our lives, you know, like the bad timing, the, and,
- 28:49Speaker 1: and don't get me wrong, sometimes I've known our friends, right?
- 28:52Speaker 1: They're in happy relationships, right? But they come across another
- 28:55Speaker 1: person that intrigues them or that maybe is a good
- 28:59Speaker 1: friend that you never considered a relationship with, and it doesn't,
- 29:03Speaker 1: and you can't help but think like what could have been,
- 29:05Speaker 1: you know.
- 29:06Speaker 1: You know, if you really just ended up getting together. I,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I mean, I believe that you could be meant to
- 29:12Speaker 1: be with more than one person in your life. I can,
- 29:14Speaker 1: I can only hope that when you have it, if
- 29:17Speaker 1: you're attached, it's a fleeting one because if you harp
- 29:21Speaker 1: on it for too long, that's it. If you, if
- 29:23Speaker 1: you open the door, that's it. Good luck. We're on
- 29:26Speaker 1: the topic of heartbreak, breakups, how you dealt with it,
- 29:30Speaker 1: all inspired by Leiwei's love sick.
- 29:34Speaker 1: And that's because we're giving away Leibei concert tickets every
- 29:37Speaker 1: single day this week. Officially sold out, but we managed
- 29:40Speaker 1: to snag a few more thanks to our friends at UOB.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Happening May 19th, by the way, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Finally,
- 29:47Speaker 1: a venue that's deserving of Lei Wei's talents and gifts. Yeah,
- 29:52Speaker 1: we're really excited. So TD's on the line right now.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Tell us your story, what happens?
- 29:56Speaker 2: So, a girlfriend of mine, our good friend actually, um,
- 30:00Speaker 2: went through a bad breakup. So she was with her
- 30:04Speaker 2: boyfriend for about 7 years or so, and when he
- 30:07Speaker 2: joined as a flight attendant and then he hooked up
- 30:09Speaker 2: with another flight attendant. So eventually it was so bad,
- 30:13Speaker 2: she was crying and everything.
- 30:15Speaker 2: So we decided, like a bunch of girlfriends decided to
- 30:17Speaker 2: actually get together and um do a like a spell
- 30:22Speaker 2: party or something like that. So what we did was,
- 30:25Speaker 2: we actually went to Botanic Gardens and then she brought
- 30:29Speaker 2: all her stuff. We dressed up in black, and then
- 30:32Speaker 2: we sat around, we had food, and then we shared
- 30:35Speaker 2: stories about how bad he was.
- 30:37Speaker 2: And everything, and we actually burned and tore some of
- 30:40Speaker 2: the photos and like put so-called curse spells on him
- 30:44Speaker 2: so that he won't have a happy life or something
- 30:46Speaker 2: like that. And then um thinking about it, we actually
- 30:49Speaker 2: laughed it back and we had photos whenever we looked
- 30:52Speaker 2: back at it, it's like we were laughing at all,
- 30:54Speaker 2: like how could we be doing all those at that
- 30:56Speaker 2: point in time. We were young, we were young at
- 30:58Speaker 2: that point.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I get you. I get you. Look, like, um, there's
- 31:01Speaker 1: no one that will have your back like your girlfriends, OK?
- 31:04Speaker 1: And honestly, like I've been through breakups as well where
- 31:08Speaker 1: they were, so this is what my friends did, quite
- 31:10Speaker 1: similar to your spells no spells, no spells, but, um,
- 31:14Speaker 1: they actually had a pinata, OK, and they put his
- 31:17Speaker 1: face on it so that we can bash the pinata.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And then and then Candy comes out and there was some, um,
- 31:26Speaker 1: they put like those fake eggs, you know, those like
- 31:28Speaker 1: plastic eggs also with his face on it and then
- 31:30Speaker 1: they put the cross on the.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Look, when we were young, all these things, you know,
- 31:37Speaker 1: it was a process, right? It's it's just something to
- 31:39Speaker 1: make you feel better, um, not that we meant it
- 31:41Speaker 1: or I don't think there was, I don't think you
- 31:43Speaker 1: girls knew what you were doing when it comes to
- 31:45Speaker 1: like the so-called spells. No, no, no, they knew exactly
- 31:48Speaker 1: what they were doing, Sonia. They knew exactly what they
- 31:51Speaker 1: were saying and doing. So, so the question is, is
- 31:53Speaker 1: that guy leading a happy life now or did the
- 31:55Speaker 1: spell work?
- 31:56Speaker 2: Um, let's say he has a receding hairline right now.
- 32:02Speaker 1: You see what you did. Kenny. I ain't messing with
- 32:05Speaker 1: you and your girlfriends, man. I want to keep my
- 32:07Speaker 1: hairline as natural as possible. So we're going to read
- 32:10Speaker 1: out last couple of messages here before we reveal the
- 32:13Speaker 1: winner in just a bit. OK. One coming in from Jerry.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Hey guys, I have an open inverted comma, wartime breakup
- 32:21Speaker 1: story to share.
- 32:22Speaker 1: So this is about 2 decades ago when some of
- 32:25Speaker 1: us in the navy were deployed to the northern Arabian
- 32:28Speaker 1: Gulf for operations. We were on the ship and network
- 32:31Speaker 1: connectivity was restricted to small bandwidths. While surfing social media
- 32:35Speaker 1: when we were off watches, I chanced upon a Facebook
- 32:38Speaker 1: picture of my then-girlfriend with another dude. Oh no. We
- 32:42Speaker 1: were already together for
- 32:43Speaker 1: 5 years, but it was a topsy-turvy relationship. I wouldn't
- 32:46Speaker 1: say it's toxic, but it's probably not the kind of
- 32:49Speaker 1: relationship to last a lifetime. I called her during our
- 32:52Speaker 1: allocated phone time hours and asked her about it, but
- 32:54Speaker 1: got lambasted for being too sensitive. Maybe it was the
- 32:58Speaker 1: operational stress of being at sea for a prolonged period.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I told her then that this is not working out.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I don't trust her anymore. She hung up.
- 33:05Speaker 1: When I tried to call back, she had turned her
- 33:07Speaker 1: phone off. Lucky for my comrades who kept me occupied
- 33:10Speaker 1: till we completed our operation. I was rather affected and
- 33:13Speaker 1: didn't get into another serious relationship for the next 10 years,
- 33:16Speaker 1: always pulling out when things got serious. Looking back, the
- 33:20Speaker 1: breakup was a blessing.
- 33:21Speaker 1: in disguise for I wouldn't have met my forever loved
- 33:24Speaker 1: now wife if that breakup did not happen. Yay. See,
- 33:28Speaker 1: so you know what, sometimes everything happens for a reason.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I really believe in that. That's it for today's winner, Sonia.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Let's give it to Tenie who called us earlier.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Congratulations TD. You cracked us up. You made us laugh
- 33:41Speaker 1: so hard earlier. It was a journey because what started
- 33:44Speaker 1: off as heartbreak turned out into a show of support
- 33:47Speaker 1: for a friend, and we loved it. Please catch up
- 33:49Speaker 1: with your Ami listen and Spotify, but you're going to
- 33:52Speaker 1: catch Lei Lei live in concert and you will be
- 33:54Speaker 1: card members.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Enjoy priority access to some of the hottest entertainment acts
- 33:59Speaker 1: in the region. We're very grateful to them for that.
- 34:01Speaker 1: So Tinny, bring that friend that you helped cheer up
- 34:04Speaker 1: and enjoy Leve together and welcome to another episode of
- 34:10Speaker 1: Bodo Crime, Bodo Crime, Bodo Crime.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Today we are going to Red Hill. OK, oh, Red Hill.
- 34:18Speaker 1: The rogue streets of Red Hill. We just try to
- 34:22Speaker 1: alliterate that all the time. I was thinking the Rak
- 34:25Speaker 1: streets of Red Hill, but OK, you said Rogue.
- 34:28Speaker 1: So, um, Sonia, not that I'm encouraging it, I never will.
- 34:32Speaker 1: When it comes to vandalism and vandalizing something, what would
- 34:37Speaker 1: you vandalize? Nothing. If you were a vandalizer, OK, if
- 34:41Speaker 1: you're a serial vandalize.
- 34:46Speaker 1: I mean, I better, it better be to showcase my
- 34:49Speaker 1: art or something, you know, maybe a trash bin. Yeah,
- 34:53Speaker 1: like one of those big trash bins, you know, like
- 34:55Speaker 1: you see in the movies sometimes, yeah. 53 year old
- 34:58Speaker 1: man was identified.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Officers at the Clementi Police division. OK. Take a guess
- 35:06Speaker 1: on what he vandalized in Red Hill vending machine. No, no,
- 35:13Speaker 1: it's a hint. It's the last thing. It's the last
- 35:17Speaker 1: thing that they vandalized. It's the last thing you want
- 35:19Speaker 1: to vandalize.
- 35:21Speaker 1: The police station. You're close. I'm close. The police car. No, why?
- 35:29Speaker 1: So apparently this 53 year old man took his key
- 35:31Speaker 1: and you know they they call it the car, right?
- 35:36Speaker 1: So he scratched the door. In my mind I was
- 35:38Speaker 1: like graffiti that's considered vandalism as it is. So I
- 35:43Speaker 1: think the people around the area saw him do it,
- 35:47Speaker 1: and now he's caught. Is there a reason why he
- 35:50Speaker 1: angry at them for something or
- 35:53Speaker 1: Even if you are angry at the police, you don't
- 35:56Speaker 1: want to vandalize the car. You do notice how many
- 35:58Speaker 1: cameras they have on that car. Your face will be
- 36:00Speaker 1: caught in 4K, you know. So yes, this is the
- 36:04Speaker 1: episode of Crime for you. Oh my God. Wait, so
- 36:06Speaker 1: what's the, what's the verdict? Like what's happening after this?
- 36:08Speaker 1: So today he's being charged with the offense of vandalism.
- 36:13Speaker 1: So here's the, here's the fine and all that, yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Convicted, he might be fined up to $2000 or be
- 36:19Speaker 1: jailed for up to 3 years. This is so not
- 36:23Speaker 1: worth it. This is the most boa crime I've ever
- 36:25Speaker 1: heard about. The icing on the cake. He may also
- 36:27Speaker 1: be liable to caning between 3 to 8 strokes. No rotten.
- 36:32Speaker 1: There you go. We'll wait for that verdict, I guess.
- 36:35Speaker 1: So anyway, this has been Bodo crime, crime, crime.
- 36:41Speaker 1: The Rogue and Rabak streets of Redhill. This one is really. So, um,
- 36:49Speaker 1: correct me if I'm wrong, but as we know it, no,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I'm right for sure. You know why? Why? You don't
- 36:56Speaker 1: like turtle soup, do you?
- 36:58Speaker 1: I've never tried, right, and I don't think I ever will.
- 37:01Speaker 1: I know, I know you because you're not the most adventurous.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I don't mean it in a bad way. You're just not, uh,
- 37:07Speaker 1: you don't eat like innards, for example, or like exotic dishes.
- 37:11Speaker 1: The only turtle I look forward to is mobile legends.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I have no idea what that means it's OK.
- 37:17Speaker 1: you will understand, but yes, there we go. Uh, yeah,
- 37:20Speaker 1: so if you are like Joakim and actually myself as well,
- 37:23Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever tried turtle soup, to be honest.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I think I was presented with the, you know, the
- 37:29Speaker 1: option to on a travel show once, but I don't
- 37:31Speaker 1: know if I did. I can't recall. I, I think
- 37:33Speaker 1: because I had a turtle in the past, I had
- 37:35Speaker 1: a terrapin, and I just can't. I mean, I know
- 37:38Speaker 1: they're not the same, but I can't envision.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Eating it, you know, it's just, uh, I can't. The
- 37:42Speaker 1: terrapin's name was Polly. Yes, and she grew so big
- 37:46Speaker 1: we had to rescend to the pond.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Thanks for the memories, Polly. Um, if you are like
- 37:53Speaker 1: us and you don't really want to eat the literal
- 37:56Speaker 1: turtle soup, find out where you can get something that
- 38:01Speaker 1: tastes apparently exactly like turtle soup, but it's not made
- 38:05Speaker 1: from turtles. What is this, the vegetarian version of turtle soup?
- 38:09Speaker 1: Something it's made using other proteins, but I'll tell you
- 38:12Speaker 1: more at this fine dining restaurant in just a little bit.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Time for some food news. 123. Hang on, hang on,
- 38:20Speaker 1: hang on. Yes. It's good, it's good. It's a good thing.
- 38:23Speaker 1: But it's turtle soup related. It's, yes, but let me
- 38:25Speaker 1: hear me out first. OK, 123, food news.
- 38:30Speaker 1: News. Sonia with the good food news. Bring us out
- 38:33Speaker 1: of our shells, Miss Sonia Chew. So here's the thing,
- 38:36Speaker 1: you know, both of us aren't gonna go get a
- 38:39Speaker 1: bowl of turtle soup anytime soon. Let's just say, OK.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Here's the good news. There's a new restaurant in town.
- 38:45Speaker 1: It's a bit of a fine dining situation, so please
- 38:47Speaker 1: block it for your next date or you want to
- 38:48Speaker 1: bring your mom or your family.
- 38:50Speaker 1: They serve turtle soup, but it's not made of turtle.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Say hello to chef Andre Chiang's brand new restaurant called
- 38:59Speaker 1: 1887 over at Raffles Hotel. You may find his name
- 39:02Speaker 1: familiar because um his three Michelin starred restaurant Andre was
- 39:06Speaker 1: in Singapore previously. They closed in 2018, but he's actually
- 39:10Speaker 1: Taiwanese born.
- 39:11Speaker 1: He's back here in Singapore this time around at a
- 39:13Speaker 1: gorgeous new location. I have to say, the menu looks
- 39:17Speaker 1: stunning and so does the restaurant itself. I think he
- 39:21Speaker 1: really wants to connect stories and histories of the land
- 39:24Speaker 1: and give something special to Singapore. So we're very happy
- 39:26Speaker 1: to welcome him back. Our friends over at Eight Days Eat,
- 39:29Speaker 1: I think they got a very exclusive sneak peek into it.
- 39:31Speaker 1: So it's beautifully done. I think Victorian maximalism is the
- 39:36Speaker 1: theme of their entire restaurant. Super beautiful, beautiful. I'm pretty
- 39:40Speaker 1: sure they more than just the uh what what do
- 39:44Speaker 1: we call soup. Yeah. Let me tell you what's actually
- 39:47Speaker 1: in the turtle soup, OK.
- 39:48Speaker 1: OK. So this is an example. Um, it's, it's a
- 39:52Speaker 1: discovery of turtle soup on a menu from the year 1917,
- 39:56Speaker 1: and back then I think it was considered like a
- 39:58Speaker 1: a status symbol. If you're able to eat turtle soup
- 40:01Speaker 1: and afford turtle soup, you're like rich, you know, back then, 1917, right?
- 40:06Speaker 1: So he interpreted it in his own way. It's called
- 40:08Speaker 1: turtle soup from 1887, but it's not made from turtle.
- 40:12Speaker 1: It's made with double boiled chicken, grouper fish, herbs. However,
- 40:16Speaker 1: he says, if you blindfold someone, you cannot taste the difference.
- 40:21Speaker 1: You will think it's turtle soup.
- 40:23Speaker 1: The only problem is I don't know how turtle soup
- 40:25Speaker 1: tastes like, so I'm just gonna order it and enjoy
- 40:28Speaker 1: it as it is chicken soup with fish. So given
- 40:31Speaker 1: history and how you said that turtle soup back then
- 40:33Speaker 1: was a symbol of wealth, status symbol, yeah. So when
- 40:37Speaker 1: we have this turtle turtle soup, we are still poor
- 40:40Speaker 1: la no t turtle, yeah, it's not natural, but you
- 40:44Speaker 1: don't want that right now, right? Times have changed. Times
- 40:47Speaker 1: have changed.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Um, all these have, have also shifted, but the restaurant's
- 40:51Speaker 1: menu follows the tradition of naming dishes in honor of
- 40:54Speaker 1: prominent people as well. So I think, um, you know, artists, um,
- 40:58Speaker 1: people that are very famous from back then, maybe French
- 41:00Speaker 1: actresses and all that, these are all named after famous people.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I just saw one that I want to try already,
- 41:05Speaker 1: which is Supreme of Chicken Windsor.
- 41:10Speaker 1: You will feel like Sir Joakim Gomez when you're eating it.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Hopefully I'm saying this. There's one called Bochi Balmoral. Oh,
- 41:18Speaker 1: Balmoral is the name of a famous person. OK, yes,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I think Balmoral. I wonder what that is. So please
- 41:25Speaker 1: check it out. I think.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It is unmistakably him in his, you know, precision, clarity, flavor,
- 41:30Speaker 1: maybe even a bit of humor here and there as well.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Located at Raffles Hotel Singapore, they just opened. So please
- 41:37Speaker 1: go and support your favorite restaurants and chefs as well,
- 41:40Speaker 1: not just him, everyone out there if you can.
- 41:43Speaker 1: OK, so after you recovered from your half marathon already,
- 41:47Speaker 1: what's the next sporting event that you're gonna, you're gonna do?
- 41:50Speaker 1: Another half marathon. When is that? Because in October. You
- 41:53Speaker 1: just recovered from one yesterday. Yesterday. So it's the Garmin,
- 41:57Speaker 1: the Singapore. There's a half marathon happening on the 25th
- 42:01Speaker 1: of October.
- 42:02Speaker 1: And then it's the big one, the BYD Singapore International
- 42:05Speaker 1: Marathon presented by Adidas. That's happening December 6th. So you're
- 42:09Speaker 1: doing both of them. Yeah, so back to back I'll
- 42:11Speaker 1: do the full marathon, 42 km. OK. No, no, this
- 42:15Speaker 1: year I need to lock in, man. Last year I
- 42:16Speaker 1: was so sad, got injured and all that. This year
- 42:18Speaker 1: I'm feeling good. I'm taking the ice bath seriously, my
- 42:22Speaker 1: recovery and run seriously. I've dropped a bit of weight.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I'm very happy, but I'm trying my best to go
- 42:27Speaker 1: back down to below 80, man. OK, so when can
- 42:29Speaker 1: we eat biryani together? I had it yesterday.
- 42:33Speaker 1: OK, like that, I wait for you, then you don't
- 42:35Speaker 1: wait for me. OK, the next time we have biryani,
- 42:38Speaker 1: let's do it after your honeymoon when you come back, OK?
- 42:40Speaker 1: So you're OK to do that. You're not cutting weight
- 42:43Speaker 1: or anything. OK. By July, I should be around the
- 42:46Speaker 1: 80 to 81 kg range. I'm not at 83, so
- 42:50Speaker 1: 2 more kg to go. So 11 meal won't hurt.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Actually it might depending on how much I might eat.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Oh right, that's a problem. So for your wedding and
- 42:59Speaker 1: for me, we don't eat biryani from now. No, we're
- 43:01Speaker 1: not going to because um on my wedding itself, there's
- 43:04Speaker 1: going to be a lot of food, like amazing local
- 43:08Speaker 1: delights at lunch, and then there's going to be, I'm
- 43:11Speaker 1: pretty sure you RSVP for the dinner and you already
- 43:13Speaker 1: selected what you want.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I guess you chose steak, right? Yeah, OK, I was
- 43:17Speaker 1: sitting on, do I get the caught with the curry
- 43:20Speaker 1: option or the steak? You're going for steak. I knew
- 43:22Speaker 1: you're going to go for a steak, and then at
- 43:24Speaker 1: night got live Idomi station. So please save. Alright, Sonia,
- 43:29Speaker 1: that's a wedding. Clearly it's my priority. Yeah. Thank you
- 43:34Speaker 1: so much for kicking off your week with us.
- 43:36Speaker 1: We know that it must have been a very sleepy, tough, cold,
- 43:40Speaker 1: chilly Monday morning to wake up to with the rain
- 43:42Speaker 1: and everything. Um, we hope that you got to your
- 43:45Speaker 1: destination safe because like I was sharing with Joakim, and
- 43:47Speaker 1: I think you had that you shared the same sentiments. Um,
- 43:50Speaker 1: getting to work this morning was actually pretty scary. As
- 43:54Speaker 1: a driver for me and Joakim as a passenger, like
- 43:56Speaker 1: I think.
- 43:57Speaker 1: The skidding, you know, the, the roads were flooded, flooding
- 44:00Speaker 1: a little bit. It was quite scary. But, uh, in
- 44:02Speaker 1: that case, some good news about time we had some
- 44:04Speaker 1: rain here in Singapore to in the heat, and I'm
- 44:07Speaker 1: very sure today, tomorrow, your lands, your ice baths, your
- 44:10Speaker 1: recovery places will be packed out from people who did
- 44:14Speaker 1: high rocks and 2 times you over the weekend. True,
- 44:16Speaker 1: I mean, I was planning to go to Nature, not
- 44:18Speaker 1: because I did any marathon, just holding the weight of
- 44:21Speaker 1: the world on my shoulders. We'll catch you tomorrow at
- 44:26Speaker 1: 6 a.m.
