- 3:02Sunny mornings send you. In local news, defense
- 3:08attorneys are urging for the release of the so
- 3:10-called proctor files. which were seized from
- 3:13former Massachusetts State Police investigator
- 3:15Michael Proctor. These files contain emails and
- 3:20text messages obtained by the Federal Bureau
- 3:22of Investigation from Proctor's iCloud account
- 3:25during the Karen Reed investigation. Proctor,
- 3:29who faced misconduct allegations, was dismissed
- 3:32from the police force. A federal judge has extended
- 3:36the deadline to destroy the files, allowing defense
- 3:39teams. including that of Miles King, to seek
- 3:42critical evidence. Legal analyst Michael Coyne
- 3:46emphasized that failure to disclose exculpatory
- 3:49information could lead to case dismissals. A
- 3:54follow -up hearing is set for August 5th. Now
- 4:02on to sports. Rafael Devers' debut at first base
- 4:07did not go smoothly for the San Francisco Giants,
- 4:10who suffered a close 2 -1 loss against the New
- 4:13York Mets. Now just three games above the 500
- 4:16mark, the Giants are struggling in the National
- 4:19League wildcard race, and the much -anticipated
- 4:22Devers' trade has yet to elevate the team's performance.
- 4:27While Devers has the potential to improve, his
- 4:30initial performance raised concerns among fans.
- 4:33Despite some bright moments, such as an impressive
- 4:36play in the fourth inning, the Giants may need
- 4:39to reconsider his defensive role and possibly
- 4:42return him to the DH position. In local sports,
- 4:46yesterday afternoon at Fenway Park, the Sox edged
- 4:51out the Dodgers 4 -3. Bregman blasted a two -run
- 4:55homer in the fifth, sealing the win. May took
- 4:59the loss for the Dodgers. while Bernard claimed
- 5:02the win for Boston. In a tight contest, Hicks
- 5:06notched the save. Story's sacrifice fly and Conforto's
- 5:11long shot kept the pressure on. With this victory,
- 5:15the Sox improve to 57 -50 as they hold off the
- 5:19Dodgers' late push. Tonight, the Sox take on
- 5:22the Twins in Minneapolis. Richard Fitz, holding
- 5:26a 4 .86 earned run average. faces Simeon Woods
- 5:30Richardson, sporting a 4 .14. First pitch is
- 5:35at 7 .40 under sunny skies with a warm 89 degrees
- 5:39forecast. In top news, in Las Vegas, workers
- 5:45are facing a significant challenge as tourism
- 5:48declines this year, impacting their tip income
- 5:51dramatically. Visits have decreased by 6 .5 %
- 5:56compared to last year. and workers such as bartenders,
- 6:00showgirls, and dealers report tips have shrunk
- 6:03by more than half. Although Congress recently
- 6:07exempted up to $25 ,000 in tips from personal
- 6:11income taxes, many feel it does not offset the
- 6:14drop in earnings. Rising living costs further
- 6:18complicate matters as workers rely heavily on
- 6:21tips to make ends meet. As one tattoo artist
- 6:25said, we're all starting to freak out. In business
- 6:30news, Warren Buffett is sending a blunt message
- 6:34regarding Social Security, urging lawmakers to
- 6:37prevent benefit cuts. Social Security is a vital
- 6:42income source for many retired Americans, with
- 6:45nearly 40 % of men and 44 % of women aged 65
- 6:50and older relying on it for half or more of their
- 6:53income. The average retiree receives about $2
- 6:56,000 in monthly benefits, which is insufficient
- 7:00amidst rising inflation. Buffett warns that without
- 7:04changes, the program's trust fund could run out
- 7:07by 2033, risking a staggering 23 % cut in benefits.
- 7:13Lawmakers must act quickly to avert a senior
- 7:16poverty crisis. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is
- 7:22up 3 % over the weekend to about $119 ,000. Ethereum
- 7:28is up 7 % to just under $3 ,900. And XRP is up
- 7:346 % to $3 .26. Moving on to a more local vibe.

- 8:26Let's talk science. Recent research reveals that
- 8:30groundwater pumping has caused Earth to tilt
- 8:3331 .5 inches over the past two decades, impacting
- 8:38its rotation and contributing to sea level rise.
- 8:41The study published in the journal Geophysical
- 8:45Research Letters. highlights that this tilt is
- 8:47linked to 2 ,100 gigatons of groundwater being
- 8:51redistributed, primarily for irrigation and human
- 8:55use. Kang Wiyonseo, a geophysicist involved in
- 9:00the study, emphasizes the significant role of
- 9:03groundwater in climate -related changes. Understanding
- 9:07these shifts could aid conservationists in addressing
- 9:10climate challenges and mitigating sea level rise.
- 9:17and in entertainment news. The Fantastic Four
- 9:21First Steps has taken the top spot at the box
- 9:23office, earning an impressive $118 million in
- 9:28the US and Canada and $218 million globally during
- 9:34its opening weekend. This marks a triumphant
- 9:38return for the franchise under Walt Disney Company's
- 9:41ownership. Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby,
- 9:46Ibn Mas Bakrach, and Joseph Quinn, the film received
- 9:50an 88 % approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, signaling
