- 0:35Quicker, quicker. Quicker.
- 0:40Welcome back to Hamster With a Blump in Life the Doctor.
- 0:43Finish your coffee first. Thank you, Hang.
- 0:47On How did you swallow that? Quick.
- 0:49No, I won't go back. Much practice, commentary,
- 0:54podcast. I am here today with a
- 0:59delightful gentleman. I'm having a wonderful evening
- 1:02with Mr. Craig Williams. Hello.
- 1:04Hello, Joe. Hello Joe.
- 1:07There's an obscure There's an obscure Simpsons reference for
- 1:09you. What do you got in your mug?
- 1:12And tea. Oh.
- 1:14What does it say on your mug? It oh, it says I'm here.
- 1:19Whole launder is limited. It's from.
- 1:21It's from Regan's Magic Man. Oh, sorry, I could only see how
- 1:25I thought it was an advertisement of your life.
- 1:28Have you still got the bag in your tea?
- 1:30Oh yeah, I always drink the tea with the tea bag in.
- 1:32Oh. I think it's been.
- 1:34I think it's because I need like a strong drink.
- 1:35It's because I'm a teacher. I'm not allowed vodka, so I've
- 1:37got to keep the tea bag in the tea.
- 1:38Do you? Know what?
- 1:39I'll just sit downstairs a minute ago, right?
- 1:40I just made this coffee and I have it black.
- 1:42And I was doing it in a hurry. I was like, I don't want to keep
- 1:45him waiting too long. So I just, I just opened the jar
- 1:48and poured the coffee in. Half the cup was full of coffee.
- 1:51I was like, I need a new cup. Yeah.
- 1:54Did you like it, Black Jaw? Oh, mate, Right.
- 1:57Let me tell you a story. Okay.
- 1:59So when my marriage broke down of 60 years, yeah, I never slept
- 2:04with a black man, right? So I decided I was going to
- 2:07sleep with as many black men as I could in those couple of
- 2:10years. Did he have A to do list like
- 2:12the monk? I didn't.
- 2:13But, Gee, I had some fun. And I'll tell you what, It's all
- 2:16true. It's once you've had what, once
- 2:18you've had black, you never go back.
- 2:20Nah, it's about. The.
- 2:23How did we get here so early in the episode?
- 2:26It's cause it's cause the color machine looks like a massive
- 2:28black appendage. Actually, it does, don't it?
- 2:33I wish they'd bring that as a toy.
- 2:35People always say that the Ledger Hive helmets look like
- 2:36palaces, but they're forgetting the color machine.
- 2:40Nothing's worse than that. Jody Witter cotardis the
- 2:42console. Yeah.
- 2:44You see the toy of that? Yeah.
- 2:47It's disturbing, I'll tell you. Well, that was a good clue about
- 2:50what we are talking about today. And that's not black penises.
- 2:54It's the mind of evil. It is the mind of evil.
- 2:56Hooray. We had great fun with episode
- 2:58one. We did.
- 3:00Hurt with rudeness, habit of pixsembling, and even more
- 3:04fabulous, Fernanda Marlowe. Yeah, I mean like.
- 3:09What pretty set of Fernando and picks?
- 3:12Oh, I'd go with that rather attractive Chinese girl.
- 3:16Oh, which you now? I bet Fernando Marlo's like on
- 3:20this, on in behind, the kind of seething, you know?
- 3:23Why? Why isn't?
- 3:24Why isn't no one saying them? Could you go in that, you know,
- 3:26go to the very lovely corporal bells office, you know?
- 3:29Although I'm sure I'm sure the Brig tells that lay on a GP a
- 3:32few times though. She she's she's seen the mind of
- 3:37evil pop up in her podcast Capture.
- 3:39She's gone. Listen to that one, OK, We'll
- 3:41see. Craig Williams.
- 3:42What pick? Semlin.
- 3:44Bastard. We've shattered their friendship
- 3:47after 50 years. We have.
- 3:51Sorry, girls. She did Chuck the right after
- 3:54also. Yeah, so she's the right person,
- 3:57I think. I think they did separate, you
- 3:59know. Yeah, they did.
- 4:00But I do like the idea that he's writing these lines like a
- 4:03rather attractive Chinese girl to to kind of like, you know,
- 4:06convince his wife to stay. Yeah.
- 4:10Some people write love letters, you know.
- 4:11Some people send flowers. No, Don Horton writes.
- 4:14Eh writes attractive line, writes lines in his scripts to
- 4:17kind of it to flatterer. There's a bizarre bit of
- 4:20nepotism going on in both of his stories because.
- 4:23Sheila also faced from inferno was Dougla Campbell's wife.
- 4:26Yeah, yeah, it's rife nepotism. And Michael Ferguson's
- 4:30brother-in-law, Rick Falger, appears on Ambassadors of Death.
- 4:33It's it's rife. I'm sure there's I'm sure
- 4:36there's more examples. Oh, and of course, William
- 4:39Morrow was married to Fernanda Marlowe.
- 4:41Oh yeah, we've debunked that in episode.
- 4:45Yeah, well, look, this is the episode which brings us John
- 4:49Levine into the story A. Widely famous.
- 4:53Classical actor, the screen and. Yeah, yeah, what is it?
- 4:57Hartnell says. I'm a legitimate actor.
- 5:00Yeah, yeah. I'm a legitimate character actor
- 5:02of stage and screen. Oh, don't think.
- 5:04John I I bloody love that interview of it.
- 5:06No, but John Living did claim to be up for James Bond at one
- 5:10point, apparently. Oh really?
- 5:12Yeah, a bond from Salisbury. Well, should we go and?
- 5:18See him in action. I think he's doing some kind of
- 5:21like secret agent surveillance shtick in this one, but and gets
- 5:25his head stuck in some railings. Brilliant.
- 5:27Hey, this is closest he ever got the bombs.
- 5:30Yeah. I know, apart from that big
- 5:33Finnish story, Council of War, have you seen it?
- 5:36He's on the cover with the gum like that.
- 5:38Yeah, yeah, tucks. Wow, right?
- 5:41His head's photoshopped onto it at least.
- 5:43Yeah, yeah, they do that all the time now.
- 5:44And you can always tell. Have you listened to?
- 5:49John's recent performances in big finishes, Benton is he Has
- 5:51he still got the magic? No, my offer off.
- 5:54That's a brilliant impression of him.
- 5:56Is it really of landlord in one episode and?
- 6:00Benton's now pub landlord. Apparently so, yeah.
- 6:03Undercover. Oh, OK, right.
- 6:06Yeah, well, he tried. When John Levine found out that
- 6:09they'd wrote Benton out in Modern on Dead as a car dealer,
- 6:13he was livid. And he now he so he goes around
- 6:15now, said Oh yeah, though I know they said I was a car dealer,
- 6:18but it was. It was undercover, you know.
- 6:20Did you ever watch that um Toby Haydoke documentary with him?
- 6:24He's got, he's got cupboard with his pressed unit, uniform way
- 6:29and every single DVD of the Doctor stories he's in.
- 6:32That's. It yeah, yeah, Hello.
- 6:34When Toby walks, it was kitchen and goes John.
- 6:36Would you normally have a Fender Stratocaster in your kitchen if
- 6:39you weren't being filmed for documentary and you just pick
- 6:44some stuff to play, you know? My, my, I have a John Levine
- 6:48story about his uniform. Do you want me to tell it now or
- 6:50during the episode? Well, let's press play and then
- 6:52tell me. Yeah.
- 6:53All right. I'll, I'll tell it.
- 6:54I'll tell it when the when when the egomaniac comes on.
- 6:59OK. Do you want me to do 321?
- 7:01Yeah, If you go, we'll. You're an expert at this now.
- 7:03Yeah, I know I can count backwards until I'm a nursery
- 7:05teacher, 33. I'll do it slowly this time.
- 7:12I bet. I bet people have said that in
- 7:13the past. 321 Let's play. You're with what?
- 7:21Right, We were fired. Some messages back and forth
- 7:23earlier, right. And he's going, just make sure
- 7:24you laugh at my jokes. And I thought to myself, oh God,
- 7:27yeah, it could be funny at all. Turns out you're bloody
- 7:29hilarious. Right, Go on.
- 7:34What's your John Levine story? Right, so this was about. 2007,
- 7:41I think it was, it was Liz Slaton was there.
- 7:42I think she just done the first series of surgery.
- 7:44It was one of the most bizarre conventions of have been to the
- 7:47they couldn't fill the hotel that it was too small.
- 7:51So they kind of erected this massive marquee attached to the
- 7:54back of the SO and it was really windy because you're in the
- 7:56northeast, so it's windy anyway. And then it was just kind of
- 7:59like to the the the the wind was blowing the the walls of the
- 8:03tent were rattling all the time. Anyway, John Levine was there.
- 8:06And in it was, it was a Saturday and Sunday thing and on the
- 8:09Saturday he was there dressed in the wine shirt and high fiving
- 8:13everybody. He was with his then wife who
- 8:15kind of had this kind of like your Colonel type presence of
- 8:18always like just standing behind him, like silently not saying a
- 8:20word. She was like like his minder.
- 8:22But I think they've switched up now.
- 8:23But he always like cries about her and whenever he's
- 8:25interviewed I wish you'd take me back, blah blah blah.
- 8:28Anyway, so on the Sunday, he turned up to his panel in a
- 8:32replica of Benton's uniform. And then he and he start to
- 8:39rundown the aisle making guns with these fingers going check
- 8:43this out this is a replica Benton uniform I kill.
- 8:45I killed many a life form in this bang, bang.
- 8:48You're doing that off. Bang Bang Bang Bang bang and
- 8:50then and then the and then the organizer kind of came to him
- 8:55quietly and took one side and went John, could you please be a
- 8:58bit more respectful. It's remembering Sunday.
- 9:04Was he really? Yeah, it genuinely, yeah.
- 9:06And then and then and then we and then we did, then we did.
- 9:09Then we did the five minute silence at 11:00 or sitting,
- 9:13sitting in this tent. And every so often, John would
- 9:15punctuate the silence with Don't be afraid to cry.
- 9:19Always mad. And it is mad as a box of frogs,
- 9:22that fella. And I I was told I had a very,
- 9:24very effeminate handshake. You don't like?
- 9:30He's going, he's going, he's going, he's going.
- 9:31You need you need a firm handshake.
- 9:33If you don't give a firm handshake, the suits will think
- 9:35you're a Pansy. What's wrong with that?
- 9:39You. See what he wears on those pink
- 9:41shirts? You know, yeah, yeah.
- 9:43Anyway, should we concentrate on John Perry's magnificent acting?
- 9:47Let's move away from the. Story.
- 9:49Thank you. That's all right.
- 9:50I told it to Katie Manning once and and she said killed aliens.
- 9:54You never left Earth, honey, you know.
- 9:58I've heard now you know that she won't go to conventions where
- 10:02he's at. I'm not.
- 10:03Surprised. Yeah.
- 10:05You see? Like a while, a while ago he got
- 10:06like he got because the Salisbury poisonings.
- 10:11Happened where he lived, he kind of decided to do like a mini
- 10:13documentary on the on the on it and it all got taken down and
- 10:16got accused of being disrespectful and stuff and.
- 10:19Well, my Utopia convention recently, right?
- 10:21Apparently he's on the stage, he's not ranting on about
- 10:23politicians, how he's going to tear their throats out, and he's
- 10:26starting out on about paedophiles.
- 10:28And he's not talking about Doctor at all.
- 10:30That's the audience crying. I'm not surprised.
- 10:34But yeah, I don't really like any any DVD copy the Inferno
- 10:38commentary because we didn't know what he was like then it is
- 10:40is a bit of a laugh because I wasn't expecting him you know
- 10:42like like I played the Prime or like like Richard the 3rd and
- 10:45and and that that it that was it was at the time monster
- 10:48commentary where he where the the baby who played Benton sadly
- 10:51sadly passed away like the next year and he went well at least
- 10:54the baby the baby died but at least it got to be in Doctor
- 10:56Who. And do you know what?
- 10:59I don't think he means to be offensive.
- 11:01No, no, no. I think he's a nervous man.
- 11:04Yeah, I do. I do.
- 11:05I yeah. He's just trying to be.
- 11:07He's like the soldier or just trying to be popular.
- 11:12Well, you mean his his yits. Am I?
- 11:17Am I? Do the line again please.
- 11:20You're coming with me, Doctor, even I have to use force.
- 11:26You deserve to be honest. You deserve that anyway for
- 11:33saying she's quite a Dolly about epic Sun limb.
- 11:36And then he tries that look, he really does need you.
- 11:38Why don't you say that in the first place?
- 11:40This is this is where the doctor is a complete twat to Joe which
- 11:45which she she offers to kind of say like I'll I'll stay here and
- 11:48look after things and then he just he just turns.
- 11:50Joe for once in your life would you manage not to ruin things
- 11:53Rather not. Thank thanks for that Joe.
- 11:54It's really appreciated. Look at him, man.
- 11:56People always talk about stop the sandwich stealing scene in
- 11:59the Seadels. He's an absolute pricky.
- 12:02Yeah, look at him, man. With his finger about.
- 12:04He goes. And and she.
- 12:06And she And she. To lock that door.
- 12:08Do you understand? Yeah, yeah.
- 12:09That very simple. You're a.
- 12:10Woman, aren't you? But look at she gives him like,
- 12:14the most gorgeous of smile afterwards.
- 12:16Yeah, and he's just being a talk to her.
- 12:19Oh, don't, don't. Don't forget his.
- 12:20Kate. Mike.
- 12:22Up in there, right with men who are arrogant pricks that treat
- 12:25you like that. Then when they got something,
- 12:26you know you're still smile. Oh, here we go now, Secret agent
- 12:31Benton Double tells UP. Yeah.
- 12:37I'm getting Bond vibes, you know.
- 12:38Well, actually, I was just thinking though, like the first
- 12:40time we saw Benton, he was doing surveillance work like this.
- 12:43He was. He's tracking the 2nd Doctor and
- 12:46Jamie in a car. Yeah.
- 12:48So maybe that. And location fact, this is where
- 12:53they filmed the war machine. It's the same St. you know where
- 12:56they where they put that like ring.
- 12:58Yeah, yeah, rope around it. It's exactly the same place.
- 13:01The rope around it? Yeah.
- 13:03The Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was killing machine.
- 13:05Or at least according to the Doctor this episode.
- 13:09I'll look at him. I I really want Imagine if you
- 13:12got his head like properly stuck in that rail link, it'll be
- 13:13amazing. Low angle shots though, yeah,
- 13:16yeah. It would have been funny,
- 13:18though, if he spent the rest of the story with a bit of railing
- 13:20around his head. Doesn't he get, Oh no, I'm
- 13:25thinking enough. This is the one where he gets.
- 13:27He's got like a bandage around his head.
- 13:28Yeah, yeah, yeah. He doesn't have a he has a very
- 13:31kind of like, you know, for all of John Levine says that Benton
- 13:33was a loyal hero. He he has quite a kind of a.
- 13:36A very bad story here. He faints and collapses, he gets
- 13:39hit over the head and then you get some horrible comedy shtick
- 13:43being like the governor of the prison and stuff.
- 13:45Which is Oh yeah. Just which is tall curling.
- 13:48Well, you've just been for a bit here.
- 13:49And then he goes back to the Brigadier and says I've lost her
- 13:51these horrible. As it should be.
- 13:56So you're not a Benton fan, then?
- 13:59Well I think my my opinion of the actor is is is cause kind of
- 14:04like. Infested my.
- 14:06Thought of the character. It does happen, yeah.
- 14:08Yeah. Do you know what with it?
- 14:10I think I'm strange. All this sort of shooting in
- 14:12front of the houses, the leafy streets, the parks.
- 14:15I love all of this. I love it.
- 14:17Oh, here he is. I love the kind of.
- 14:19Thing the man wearing, and it is.
- 14:26Because you meant to kind of like go, oh God, it's the
- 14:28master. And we do that because we're
- 14:30fans, but would would like the people watching at the time.
- 14:33When was he? He was in the part three of
- 14:35Terry, the Ottos, wasn't it? Where he was in it where he was
- 14:37a telephone engineer. So it's not that long ago so but
- 14:41those. Three stories.
- 14:42He wears one of those terrible masks, and every he doesn't
- 14:46talks backs on as well, doesn't he?
- 14:47When he. Yeah, he's like an he's like an
- 14:48army general but, but, but where if we think about it kind of
- 14:52like in story terms, where does he get the masks from because.
- 14:57And he suddenly Michael Wisher right and he pulls the mask off.
- 15:01So did did he have like a kind of like a mask of of Rex Farrell
- 15:04in his pocket for emergencies to use?
- 15:06Who or can he just kind of like some of them up from midair?
- 15:09I've. Seen his arse pocket?
- 15:11He's been to a joke shop and brought.
- 15:13Yeah, so here we here we. This is actually quite a good
- 15:16thing because when it got recolored we found out that the
- 15:22master was in Newcastle United fan from his from his scarf.
- 15:27Well, there you go. Or.
- 15:28Or Fulham. I think they playing black on
- 15:29it. No, but.
- 15:31How would it surprise you snow on, though?
- 15:33Very little about football. But it but it it, it bores me
- 15:37rigid and it and what it does to people like you know it.
- 15:41Many animals. Well, there was a case in it up
- 15:44in Newcastle about 10 year ago where a man, a football fan, is
- 15:47completely drunk. He tried to punch a horse in the
- 15:49face. It just turns people.
- 15:51Yeah, it just turns people in the knob heads.
- 15:54That weird pack mentality, isn't it?
- 15:57Well. People, people take piss out
- 15:59like, you know, sci-fi and doctor.
- 16:00You fans don't ever take the piss out of football fans, even
- 16:02though it's the same sort of like, you know, allegiance, you
- 16:05know, being a lead, being, you know, like, allege something,
- 16:08you know, Is that a word? Allege?
- 16:10I feel like football fans are scary with their fists are just
- 16:14scary on Twitter, you know? I'm writing capitals a lot.
- 16:19Yes, with exclamation Marks and plenty of them.
- 16:21He leaves the mask in the tent. We don't.
- 16:26Care you? Know this bit in a minute.
- 16:30I know I mentioned it already in the litter here.
- 16:32It's the quintessence of call. Yeah, yeah, cigar.
- 16:36You're late, Captain. Oh, I don't know the way out of
- 16:39her face, though. You know how we should hold her
- 16:42back against her will. Very Russell Brand, allegedly.
- 16:48Very Vasal from the keys of Mariners.
- 16:50Yeah, I know well. There's a bit later, like Joe is
- 16:54the only female in that prison when all the prisoners break
- 16:56out. If this was series, one should
- 16:58have been raped as many times as Barbara, right?
- 17:00Yeah, I know. What were they doing back?
- 17:02Then oh oh here's here's this story is non speaking only black
- 17:05actor we had we had Roy Stewart in the last story as the
- 17:10strongman. This week, we've got the master
- 17:11chauffeur. The sinister chauffeur.
- 17:14Yeah, officers who's black and has no lines again.
- 17:17Yeah, I know, I know. It was a troubling time for
- 17:20representation. The trouble is in a fantastic
- 17:24role for somebody. Yeah, I think Cotton, they
- 17:26choose Rick James. Yeah.
- 17:28And the name Cotton as well but you think Oh yeah well it's got
- 17:33Chinese actors in this one so that's that's good but they're
- 17:35only Chinese actors because the because they're Chinese it's
- 17:39what defines them. You know it's it's not like
- 17:41they're just I mean Dr. Summers was a it was Chinese that'd be
- 17:44that'd be fine you know. I'm going to say that because we
- 17:48do have a couple of Chinese characters, we have a black
- 17:51character, and we have at least three women, this story is doing
- 17:54better than about 90% of the 70s.
- 18:00That's. Not a great fact, but yeah,
- 18:02yeah, yeah. There's a true fact.
- 18:04Isn't isn't the yeah, the guy they're going to see the the
- 18:08Chinese ambassador. Yeah.
- 18:11He's he's played by an actor called Christopher Come.
- 18:14And with a key. And then apparently the original
- 18:17actor they got for the role was so bad they had to refill and
- 18:20all these things, all those scenes.
- 18:22Yeah, Tim, you guys. It was so awful.
- 18:25I didn't know what I was going to do when over the fellow who
- 18:28cars. Yeah, the agency of China.
- 18:31You ran the agency of Chinese actors?
- 18:33Yeah. It's like Derek Sherman's be.
- 18:36I was just fuck out to do it myself.
- 18:38It's very funny, you know that Pixen Lynn apparently gave John
- 18:41Potley a little bit of lessons and hockey and.
- 18:44And then she says on the government tree, I was watching
- 18:47it back last night and I can't understand a word of what you.
- 18:50Know but but but but he does it so earnestly.
- 18:53You know he gets away with it. You know you look so serious
- 18:56doing it. This this is here where they
- 18:59they put cap. They put the subtitles on and
- 19:02being a kind of a bit of an OCD fan I like how they've used the
- 19:04same typeface as the as the closing credits for the for the
- 19:07subtitles. But I love the bit later on.
- 19:09Where he? He kind of, um, consoles that
- 19:12Chin Lee after our after a hypnosis thing that he's lovely
- 19:15enough to say. You'd never have done that with
- 19:17Joel. Be very.
- 19:18Gentle. And he is gentle with Joel.
- 19:20Yeah, yeah. He's a bit ambassadors where he
- 19:22wakes up after being attacked and he lists shows like he's
- 19:25stroking Liz Shaw's face and things.
- 19:27Or the bit with Sarah Jane and after the Daleks when he strokes
- 19:30her face and says, you know you go with them.
- 19:32If I don't come back, he can be gentle.
- 19:35I think he had. I think he had a thing for Liz
- 19:37Shaw. And list like doctor.
- 19:41No, I think perfectly like the Doctor.
- 19:43Like fancied Leshaw. He named his car after her.
- 19:48I won't be too. And I have heard that mooted
- 19:50before. I'm perfectly convincing you.
- 19:53Fancy the arse off, Lislet and why wouldn't you?
- 19:57Absolutely beautiful. You see, we're starting to enter
- 19:59the whole buffoonish, Brigadier kind of like stuff now, aren't
- 20:02we? It's still.
- 20:04It's still sort of gentle. Yeah, it will be.
- 20:06But like, he's a doctor. Really.
- 20:07You know what? What are you filling with now,
- 20:08This infernal contraption? You do not.
- 20:10That's. It's the start of all that,
- 20:11isn't it? And he says something like, oh,
- 20:13he must be a hockey. And no, no doctor, he's Chinese.
- 20:16Yeah, yeah. We're starting to get him dumbed
- 20:20down a bit and that causes I like the line the master has
- 20:23later. While we're talking about taking
- 20:25the Mickey out of people is when he goes this great warhead and
- 20:30it's British made of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:32Yeah. British, of course, but he's
- 20:34ripping, I swear he's saying. Oh, it's throbbing.
- 20:39Dana. Dana.
- 20:43You see, you see, he's he's a hot, he's he's a hardened
- 20:46criminal. We don't know what Barnum did
- 20:49and because he's been turned into similar to look at, she's
- 20:52bringing him chocolates. Yeah.
- 20:54It could have been like, like a sex.
- 20:56You could have been a pedophile. He's reformed, yeah.
- 21:00And she's kind of doing some chocolates.
- 21:02Barnum, you know, dairy. She's offering, she's offering
- 21:09Barnum, a possible paedophile, her dairy box.
- 21:13Well, there are views. That's it.
- 21:15As well. Oh, he's got really hairy chest.
- 21:20Put it away, Barnum. It's the cheap ones.
- 21:23They're amazing. Sorry.
- 21:27The equivalent of dairy. No, not dairy.
- 21:29Milk. What they called.
- 21:30And then this you can still get. Milk, milk tray, and yeah, that
- 21:34sort of thing. Yeah.
- 21:36They'll see those adverts wouldn't be made now, where
- 21:38someone that you know breaks at someone's house, leaves a box of
- 21:40chocolates and dickies off it just that just comes across as
- 21:42like stalking. Now honestly, I'd love it if
- 21:45someone did it to me. Just forgo the sex, leave the
- 21:48chocolate. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:51Let's get straight to the good stuff.
- 21:53I love all this now with the the prisoners taking over.
- 21:57Yeah, this is this, this guy, Lenny Vosper.
- 22:00He's played by the guy who did the voices of the autumns in the
- 22:02Last story. What's the?
- 22:04Which is so, which is so odd really.
- 22:06What's the better word for this? Because I was going to say
- 22:08gritty then I didn't want to see the look at this taste on your
- 22:10face, because it is, but it's very adult, this.
- 22:14He is the man here he is. He's magnificent.
- 22:19He's mustache is brilliant he's but like I said he's acting in a
- 22:22different show. It's like every single 70's porn
- 22:25star. Yeah, yeah, gay or straight?
- 22:29But, but, but Lenny Vosper is just kind of taking a gun out of
- 22:32his bucket and put it under the pillow.
- 22:36So I would. It's the security.
- 22:38What, like ones with, you know, I'm trying to, I'm trying to put
- 22:41all these topical gags and, you know, just to date it.
- 22:44Thank you very much. This, to me feels like any drama
- 22:48you could put on now sitting in prison.
- 22:50Oh yeah. Yeah, but maybe, maybe like you
- 22:52know. People think it's it's it's a
- 22:55mature for Doctor Who because of because of the acting of the
- 22:58maybe we need like some sort of like avuncular Fletch from
- 23:01porridge type prisoner as well that kind of offset the the
- 23:05realism a bit Christopher Beacons character.
- 23:08Yeah, we need. We needed a lukewarm, yeah, to
- 23:12come in knitting. I just think as well, like just
- 23:14the fact that the set looks so convincing.
- 23:16Yeah, yeah, to town with the sound effects.
- 23:17The action looks good. Because it's two floors and it's
- 23:22like which you which you already saw.
- 23:24And he said they did a load of Foley work.
- 23:26So it did sound like people going up sort of carpool stairs
- 23:29they put in. So it sounded like they're
- 23:31walking up great. I love this but was always
- 23:34hobnobbing with the people in charge and they understand that
- 23:38my hockey ends never rusty. Oh, look at that thing out the
- 23:42window there, Look. Yeah, I would say it always that
- 23:47St. Paul's Cathedral, but it's not
- 23:48at all, is it? It's just like a.
- 23:51It's like a mosque or something. I do quite like his sweet,
- 23:54though, you know he's got a bit of decoration.
- 23:56Going on, I think when they did this with the original actor, I
- 23:58think it was on location or on film.
- 24:01So yeah, so when it was remounted with Mr. Cum, they
- 24:06made this amazing set for him. You have to say that again,
- 24:09didn't you? Later on though, I don't know if
- 24:12it's the end of this episode. I think it might be, you know,
- 24:13when she turns out the lights and invites?
- 24:17And turns in turns in the puff, the Magic dragon.
- 24:19But like the sort of the atmospherics of it, the light in
- 24:22and that screen she's behind. It's very creepy.
- 24:25I'm. I'm.
- 24:26Really. I wish Tim Cook Coomer done more
- 24:28stroke off Tim Coom and his direction because I think he's
- 24:31impressed. There he goes.
- 24:35Right. I wish.
- 24:38And as much as I love Mela and William Marlow, imagine if it
- 24:42had been Reagan. Oh, it could have been, couldn't
- 24:45it? Because it's it would it would
- 24:48be good, because then it would have recognized the doctor and
- 24:49things. You'd have a bit of antagonism.
- 24:52You put me in here, blah blah blah.
- 24:53Like we said, there's some details they remember in the
- 24:55pony. Why not this?
- 24:57Yeah, I remember in. Per, though, he deserved another
- 25:00another stint that's supposed to be a cityscape out that window.
- 25:04Now it's all stretching off into.
- 25:06This, this is, this is the Chinese girl.
- 25:08What Chinese girl? They're other attractive ones.
- 25:12All of this, they're going to dump this nuclear missile in the
- 25:14bottom of the ocean. Yeah, well, this is this was on
- 25:17now there because it's his. I know, I know, I know.
- 25:20David Attenborough will be appalled, but that's he's kind
- 25:25of yours. Has to have a little sermon,
- 25:27doesn't he, In the about about about the environment or about
- 25:29greed, or about, you know, the state of the state of this
- 25:32pitiful planet. Brigadier, you can take take the
- 25:34world you've got Yes of it. Yeah, I I love that.
- 25:38Is that the one invasion of the dinosaurs where he goes?
- 25:40It's not the it's not the slime of the chemicals that's ruining
- 25:43the Earth, Brigadier. At some degree, it's actually
- 25:47just goes and then walks out of the room.
- 25:51Well, never mind. Let's go.
- 25:54You need to have like a Jerry Springer final thought like icon
- 25:56in the corner of the screen but had a general alert for a
- 25:59Chinese girl, Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:01Every single child girl in London is being pulled in.
- 26:06Yeah, I don't like this bit very much.
- 26:07He doesn't call with the cigar. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:10You're a late captain. Yeah.
- 26:13No, he's a statistic bastard. The Master.
- 26:15Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, he's called the Master.
- 26:17It's true, I've met many, many who are.
- 26:22You know I am the master. You know, I'm sorry to do this,
- 26:28but there's something about a bad boy.
- 26:29I don't know what it is. You know, it's it's the You
- 26:33shouldn't go there. Ness of it.
- 26:37Male is great. Oh, where the master turns up
- 26:41with all those bombs. There you go.
- 26:43Right. Yeah, all the prison girls.
- 26:47And Dudley Simpson put some music on.
- 26:49It goes, yeah, when he throws the bomb.
- 26:51But I'd like to think they're actual sound effects from the
- 26:53bombs, but it's a bizarre. Oh, he clicked.
- 26:55He clicked his fingers there and turned off Dudley Simpson.
- 26:58I love that. I clicked your fingers with
- 27:00gloves on. Yeah, yeah, He's kind of like
- 27:05do, do, do and he clicks fingers and Dudley Simpson stopped.
- 27:09If only about that, I'll have enough of that.
- 27:11Yeah, yeah. But it does make it sound as if
- 27:13they could hear that in the car. Maybe the chauffeur's playing on
- 27:17his on his radio. There is a weird mixture of like
- 27:23the very adult, the prison, right?
- 27:25Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the very childish which is
- 27:30the box tricks. And the plastic dragon that
- 27:33looks like the BLOB from another world?
- 27:34Yeah, yeah. Is it a weird mix?
- 27:37Oh no, it it it works, but it shouldn't work.
- 27:41I think it works because they all just take it so serious.
- 27:43Yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah.
- 27:45But I said if people sell, it's really real.
- 27:48I'm sorry. If it was real, Jaw would have
- 27:49been put in a cell by her own and the producer would be going
- 27:52in one by one. You know you know you.
- 27:56Talk about the gritty realism. That's gritty realism.
- 27:59No one wants to say that, though.
- 28:00Did you see Corporal Bell there? Put in the curtains aside?
- 28:05Morning break. Don't really take down on the
- 28:09desk. She should have some loyal
- 28:11about. I'm not your maid, you know.
- 28:13Or something like where she goes.
- 28:15That chin Lee been all Sinner. What's going on with the light
- 28:17in here? Always a swing lie, isn't it?
- 28:20That's going back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, she's she's
- 28:23found herself in the Cullen title sequence.
- 28:25Oh, my gosh. You should say it like Juno
- 28:27Baker. Hello.
- 28:28Can I speak to the American delegate, please?
- 28:31Yeah, Come over if you're not too tired.
- 28:34I love Juno Bakers. Now there's someone who should
- 28:36have been remembered. I know.
- 28:38It's a shame, isn't it? There was a there was a tweet
- 28:41the other day on. I'm still gonna call it tweets
- 28:43and Twitter because it is. It is because I I do have hope
- 28:45that one day it's all gonna be changed back to how it was.
- 28:47But yeah, it was like, what's the greatest telephone
- 28:50conversation in a film or TV? And loads of people.
- 28:53I put Juno Baker on it too. Is yeah, she is an icon.
- 29:00Yeah, International now with Chinese American.
- 29:04Is this actor generally American, do you think?
- 29:05I don't know. I think he might be, actually.
- 29:07You know, it's into his accent. I was like, yeah, there's the
- 29:11arrogance there. Yeah, I bet he's a Republican.
- 29:13Well, I think a lot of them are, you know.
- 29:16Yeah, you see? Yeah.
- 29:19Look at the lawyer there. That it looks like it does look
- 29:22like a hotel. With like a horrible, like 70s
- 29:25carpet. Yeah, I've been some, you know,
- 29:28some conventions, you know that. Look at.
- 29:30There's a lot of that now. Yeah.
- 29:33Try going try going to a convention in a tent.
- 29:36That was. I was absolutely mad.
- 29:39Yeah. Because yeah it was its marquee
- 29:42attached to a hotel. So but all the kind of panels
- 29:43were in the were in the tent but there was a you know, I said it
- 29:48was Remembrance Sunday. Yeah.
- 29:50Fountain was interviewing Glenn McCoy.
- 29:54And he said that, He said, He said, He said.
- 29:55This morning we had a We had a silence for the war dead.
- 29:58Now we're going to have a minute silence for time.
- 30:00Lash. It needs it.
- 30:04Oh my God. They found it in Glen McCoy,
- 30:07pairing and. I don't sounds like a great
- 30:10convention. Where was that?
- 30:12It was, it was called Dimensions in it was in the whole the
- 30:15Holiday Inn in Washington. It was it was a Colin was there.
- 30:19John Levine Annika Wills, Washington, America.
- 30:23No, no, there's a there's a phrase that's gonna laugh at
- 30:26that bit. There's a There's a little town
- 30:28in in the Northeast called Washington, not too far away
- 30:30from someone. You understand my confusion,
- 30:33right? Yeah.
- 30:33Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 30:34Yeah. We've got we've got a new
- 30:35there's a New York in in in some in Newcastle as well right.
- 30:39This bit here. Right.
- 30:39It's it's the the machine makes you see what you fear the most.
- 30:43Yes. But but he he sees a giant
- 30:45plastic dragon with lockjaw, Yes.
- 30:49But and then in the next episode, we.
- 30:52The the ambassador says, oh, it's it's like a kind of like a,
- 30:55an apparition of my of my people.
- 30:58But why does he see that? And not like, you know, a giant
- 31:00Donald Trump walking towards him?
- 31:03Yeah. Or or something kind of or
- 31:05something kind of horrific from America in the 70s.
- 31:07It's so annoying because I just wanted to put in a monster,
- 31:09didn't they? They wanted to put in time for
- 31:11the kids. Yeah, but this is the this is
- 31:13the gritty and realistic mind of evil.
- 31:15That's right. And it's and it's and it's a
- 31:18pink plastic dragon which which they can't show in long shot
- 31:20because it looks so shit. Have you seen the pictures?
- 31:22Like oh. Yeah, yeah, you do see it brief.
- 31:24You do see it briefly Next. It looks like it's wearing a
- 31:26Cape. Yeah, it's all.
- 31:29It's all spins around. Yeah, yeah, but.
- 31:32And the other people can see it as well.
- 31:34Yeah. Which, which, which?
- 31:36Which shouldn't happen because yeah, you know what's annoying
- 31:40about it? It's probably the only, like,
- 31:43truly embarrassing part of the production.
- 31:45Yeah, it is, Yeah. Which?
- 31:47Is it's this story's magma monster isn't it All this
- 31:50story's Scarsen. There's always one you always
- 31:54show doctor do it like non fan and you got this is really good
- 31:56and there's always one thing in it that kind of blows it all.
- 31:59Have you heard what they're doing with the Scarsan for the
- 32:01new Blu-ray set? Have you heard?
- 32:03No. Are they going to do a new one?
- 32:05Should probably tell you this off my yeah, but they're doing
- 32:07it all in the right hair house and stop motion animation just
- 32:10like the original, just with the ability that they have.
- 32:14Now it look amazing. Oh, that's fantastic.
- 32:17I'm not sure I'm supposed to share that, but never mind.
- 32:19It's in the episode now. I'm sure they'll announce it at
- 32:22some point. Are you ready for some more
- 32:25questions? Yeah, go on, Inquisition
- 32:27continues. OK, here we go.
- 32:31Hang on, put your Linda Bellingham costume on and let's
- 32:33go. I remind you, Craig, that this
- 32:36is a court of law and not What's the line again?
- 32:41A debating ground for psychotic sociopaths.
- 32:44That's the one. That's the one.
- 32:45Sagacity. OK, hang.
- 32:47On and you want some mocks on you on your dinner.
- 32:50I love something. Oh, I used to love those
- 32:53adverts. They were lovely, weren't they?
- 32:55So that that that's a lost start of of an advert campaign being
- 32:59it being a serial story. Do you remember the old Hovis
- 33:02one as well when the fellow went running?
- 33:04Up. Yeah.
- 33:05Do you remember this one? I can't believe I'm going to do
- 33:08this. We like the red stripe.
- 33:11We like white. We like the blue stripe.
- 33:14And that's all right. Aquafresh is all free.
- 33:19Toothpaste family also. I had to finish it.
- 33:21Oh my God. Wait, one more.
- 33:22Do you remember this one? How do we get here?
- 33:28Blue car had a race all red to. Do was stuff his face.
- 33:34Yes. Oh, good old blue.
- 33:35He took the Milky Way. There we go.
- 33:37Oh no, the bridge is gone. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:40Carry on. But tomorrow, Blue Eater?
- 33:43The Milky Way. If you like a lot of chocolate
- 33:46on your biscuit, join our club. Oh my God, let's do the Doctor
- 33:50Who advert POD. It was a really good program on
- 33:52Channel 5 the night, which is not a sense to say very often,
- 33:55but it was like the best adverts of the.
- 33:57He's at night. He's really, really good.
- 33:59Oh, I'll sync that out. Okay.
- 34:01I'll do one last one. Yeah, well, Doctor Who escaped.
- 34:04This time by new. Walls I'm covering my face in a
- 34:10comedic fashion to show that I'm not the real Doctor Who, only
- 34:13six months. Doctor Who and the Space Raiders
- 34:17battling with Space Daleks. Oh, I love it.
- 34:24Oh damn. Looking at those cards it looks
- 34:26like the Hartle Dr. with it's kind of like a bizarre mix of of
- 34:30the first it's he's in Hartles costume but he and he's got he's
- 34:33got the long hair but it's black.
- 34:36Yeah, this is all. Yeah, absolutely.
- 34:39This is all good question here from Andy Parkinson, Lovely.
- 34:42Andy Parkinson. This is one of Michael Schid's
- 34:45many appearances. Where does it rank?
- 34:49Oh. Well, it's it's it's not exactly
- 34:53a Lawrence Carmen or a or a Murgrave, is it?
- 34:56Oh, I love Murgrave. He's yeah, he's yeah, he's
- 34:59lovely in Castro. No, I would.
- 35:02And he's in the Ark, wasn't he? I love him.
- 35:06But you can't. You can't really recognize him
- 35:08because he's got like a because the because the old.
- 35:10He's got a face mask on because it's like a COVID situation,
- 35:13isn't it? What about the invisible enemy?
- 35:17Oh yes, he's the villain. That.
- 35:18Is that the only time he's the villain?
- 35:21We he's like bushy for the monkeys, remember?
- 35:23Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true. Which is odd because he was the
- 35:28he was Mr. Bronson at the same time, wasn't he?
- 35:31So it's like, I think kind of are they doing like the
- 35:33crossover? They're just walking at the
- 35:34school and Mr. Bronson's there, Master Bible was game.
- 35:38Yeah, but it's all right. I think.
- 35:42I think. I think.
- 35:43We remember Dr. Summers not because of Dr. Summers, but
- 35:46because of Barnum going. I want to find Dr. Summers.
- 35:48Has anyone seen Dr. Summers? I think that's why we remember
- 35:50Dr. Summers, not because it's Michael shared, sadly.
- 35:55Good answer. 33 Joe is only 33. No, I don't buy I'm 43 and I
- 36:01look younger than him now. Simon Hart.
- 36:07Was this better in black and white or dust?
- 36:09The color copy role. I prefer this in black and
- 36:12white. It's got a kind of a yeah.
- 36:15It had a kind of, yeah. It had a grittiness and A and a
- 36:20grit to it in black and white. Actually, you know, I saw that
- 36:23that sort of fuzzy, grainy look. It did have a bit of a gritty
- 36:27look about it it. Did because they were they were
- 36:30film recordings weren't they? So that so the whole story was
- 36:32on film before they whatever they did they they they vid fire
- 36:36us and take the jerkiness out of it.
- 36:38Not, not, nothing wrong with it. The the jerkiness.
- 36:41OK those. The vid files were terrible.
- 36:44I thought everything looked a bit overexposed.
- 36:47I hate it when they redo the credits on the end.
- 36:50Yeah. And then you and then you watch
- 36:52the continuities on the Blu-ray and you see the original ones
- 36:54and and you realize that no, it doesn't look exact, doesn't look
- 36:56like that at all. Actors get actors get missed off
- 37:00the they use the wrong font or whatever.
- 37:02But I don't like it. I haven't got a question in Now
- 37:04you'd be kind. Or because he's a lovely kid, Is
- 37:09this subject matter too gritty an adult for Doctor Who?
- 37:15The prison aspect of it, yes, William Marlow's performance is
- 37:22a bit Sweeney and a bit target, but I don't.
- 37:27I don't have a problem with it. It's just the latest bit.
- 37:30It's just the latest on a long line of base under sieges, isn't
- 37:33it? Yeah, I guess so, yeah.
- 37:35Well, we haven't done the prison yet.
- 37:36Let's do a prison. I think it's the implied
- 37:39violence, yeah. And and yeah, that's a bit.
- 37:44But it's never, like said, all what they're all in for.
- 37:45But is it? So it's they could just be like
- 37:47a lot of shoplifters, you know, rather than like murders or
- 37:50rapists, although no one actually says that today.
- 37:54They just they're just like criminals.
- 37:56Yeah, yeah, yeah. I sort of general ambiguous term
- 38:00okay. Finally, and John Arnold asks,
- 38:03Is the master or the killer machine the true mind of evil?
- 38:11No, I I would say that the mind of evil is is the parasite, not
- 38:16the master. Because the Master does have a
- 38:17few moments of of light in this because he does say the Doctor
- 38:21doesn't he runs in and kind of lay on ties him from the thing
- 38:23when he's getting tortured. So and they they do just sit
- 38:27down and converse like old friends of mine says, it's
- 38:29lovely. But not the mind of evil is the
- 38:31mind parasite, not the master. I'll ask you a question, the
- 38:34final question of the day, and it's again.
- 38:36It's like the first episode. It's a question all about
- 38:39Daleks, North and South. It wasn't quite satisfying to
- 38:43hear. Jody Whitaker.
- 38:45Say Tim. Tim.
- 38:46Master rather than master. Yeah, it was, Yeah.
- 38:50Do we all sound incredibly middle class?
- 38:54Yeah, yeah, I know. Yeah.
- 38:55It's one of the things in it. It's not called.
- 38:57It's not called thing is though. It's really honest that I would
- 38:59refer to him as the master, but because because everyone else
- 39:03says it that way rather than the Master.
- 39:04But yeah, it wasn't. I say that, but you did just say
- 39:06master. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:09But I think in the past or I have on occasion refer to him as
- 39:13the master, even though I don't say the word like that normally
- 39:15because everyone calls on that, I don't know how I'm going to do
- 39:18it. I'm somehow going to ask a
- 39:19dialogue based question at the end of three as well, yeah.
- 39:23Anymore, I I was going to say some and just the second does.
- 39:29The Does the does the doctor Mack him or tag him?
