- 0:23Speaker 4: Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy, bud Light, the official
- 0:25Speaker 4: beer sponsor of the New England Patriots. And we're back
- 0:28Speaker 4: for another episode. Guys here with the latest news. Not
- 0:30Speaker 4: a lot going on this week, but we're going to
- 0:32Speaker 4: drill down a little bit on some mock drafts. And
- 0:34Speaker 4: let's start off, Evan with the Pro Days.
- 0:36Speaker 5: You were out BC.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Earlier this week, checking it out, Update, Pro Day Update,
- 0:40Speaker 4: love it.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot going on right now with Pro Days. Really,
- 0:43Speaker 3: this is when the big schools start to get in
- 0:44Speaker 3: their Pro Days. Actually, as we're taping this, Mike Rabel
- 0:47Speaker 3: is at Texas to check out Calvin Banks and Matthew
- 0:50Speaker 3: Golden and Isaiah Bond and all the Longhorn talent. So
- 0:54Speaker 3: he's at Boston College on Monday with yours truly, and
- 0:58Speaker 3: then he got on a plane and went down to
- 1:00Speaker 3: Texas and now he's in Texas today. So this is
- 1:03Speaker 3: a big time of year to really get some FaceTime
- 1:05Speaker 3: with some of these prospects.
- 1:06Speaker 6: Mike, just to be clear, I don't think Mike Rabel
- 1:08Speaker 6: was at BC's pro day to check out Evan.
- 1:12Speaker 3: They both along with yours, they happened to both be there.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Then I was also there.
- 1:17Speaker 5: I want to make sure the viewers thank you for
- 1:20Speaker 5: the clarification.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Pologists were what were your takeaways though some obviously some
- 1:23Speaker 4: players of interest maybe to the Patriots there PC.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, Doug Maron, the Patriots offensive line coach, was pretty
- 1:28Speaker 3: hands on with some of the stuff with Ozzie Trapilo's
- 1:31Speaker 3: a third round, second third round tackle from Boston College.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Offensive tackle, so he played on the right side mostly
- 1:39Speaker 3: at BC, played a lot of right tackle, but he's
- 1:41Speaker 3: been training with Dante Scarneckia. I might have heard of him,
- 1:44Speaker 3: and they've been training on both sides, you know, left
- 1:46Speaker 3: and right, And his path through a roster spot and
- 1:50Speaker 3: just sticking in the league is probably swing tackle with
- 1:54Speaker 3: maybe a ceiling of a starting right tackle. So he's
- 1:57Speaker 3: trying to make it right now in that swing tackle
- 1:59Speaker 3: role initially, so I can tell that he's working on everything.
- 2:03Speaker 3: And Donovan Azaruko, their pass rusher, is kind of the
- 2:06Speaker 3: big name. He didn't participate in the drills going he
- 2:10Speaker 3: was at the Combine Senior Bowl. Has already done his
- 2:13Speaker 3: thing for this circuit. But he's projected to go in
- 2:16Speaker 3: the first round. Some people say it's early as top
- 2:18Speaker 3: twenty potentially at sixteen and a half sacks last year
- 2:22Speaker 3: at PC, so he's a very good player. A couple
- 2:24Speaker 3: of linemen center Drew Kendall, there's a lot of lignemen
- 2:29Speaker 3: at BC this time around. I would say that are
- 2:31Speaker 3: interested across the league.
- 2:33Speaker 6: That's the key takeaway there for BC. Not exactly a
- 2:36Speaker 6: football hot bat up here. You know, in New England,
- 2:38Speaker 6: we don't do college football the way you know certainly
- 2:42Speaker 6: they do down South. But offensive line has been a
- 2:45Speaker 6: very fruitful position for that program. They have a lot
- 2:47Speaker 6: of good ones in the league and it sounds like
- 2:49Speaker 6: they have at least one solid Day two prospect in
- 2:52Speaker 6: Tapello and a lot of people like Drew Kendall as well.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Like Kevin said, so do not sleep on the BC lineman.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, there was just a little bit more behind the scenes.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Chris Linstrom was actually in attendance for the Pro Day
- 3:04Speaker 3: and he had a long conversation with Mike Rabel. I
- 3:06Speaker 3: believe Tyler Vrabel might have overlapped with Lindstrom at Boston College,
- 3:10Speaker 3: so maybe he knew of Lindstrom already from that. But
- 3:14Speaker 3: he's obviously one of those linemen that Paul's talking about
- 3:16Speaker 3: in Atlanta's Fantastic Guard for the Falcons.
- 3:19Speaker 4: So guys, let's move on here to You know, it
- 3:21Speaker 4: seems like not a lot happens in the spring. We
- 3:23Speaker 4: know the major events, the Combines, the Pro Days, but
- 3:25Speaker 4: yet still there's like an up and down and Evan
- 3:28Speaker 4: flowed to the mock draft season and who the Patriots
- 3:30Speaker 4: might get. I came back from the Combine a couple
- 3:32Speaker 4: of weeks ago and felt like, man, there's no way
- 3:34Speaker 4: they're getting.
- 3:35Speaker 5: Carter or Hunter. You know, tis now what kind of
- 3:37Speaker 5: feels like?
- 3:37Speaker 4: I mean, And I don't know what's changed nothing, but
- 3:40Speaker 4: according to the mock drafts, maybe they have a chance
- 3:42Speaker 4: to some of those guys. Is that positive development for
- 3:44Speaker 4: the Patriots doesn't mean anything.
- 3:45Speaker 7: I think the things that's changed in the past week
- 3:47Speaker 7: is that the Titans are showing more interest than cam
- 3:49Speaker 7: Ward and then Shader is wanting to go to New York,
- 3:52Speaker 7: which means Travis Hunter or Carter is going to be there.
- 3:55Speaker 7: Before you didn't know what the Browns were going to
- 3:57Speaker 7: do or the Titans, So it just kind of is
- 3:59Speaker 7: up in the ya. All the experts are saying something else,
- 4:01Speaker 7: but it really feels like you can get Hunter or Carter.
- 4:03Speaker 5: So Paul, like the question is, though.
- 4:06Speaker 6: I'm starting to get excited about man, you don't even
- 4:08Speaker 6: have to ask me the question, because I do think
- 4:10Speaker 6: if there's an opportunity there that you can get one
- 4:13Speaker 6: of those two guys, I think that's the dream scenario
- 4:15Speaker 6: for the Patriots. Otherwise you're really putting a half dozen
- 4:20Speaker 6: or so guys in a box and just saying which
- 4:22Speaker 6: one do I prefer? Because I think the clear two
- 4:25Speaker 6: top prospects are Carter and Hunter. If one of those
- 4:28Speaker 6: two guys slips, and we're seeing a lot of mocks
- 4:30Speaker 6: now that have the Patriots taking one of those two
- 4:32Speaker 6: guys at.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Four, let's talk to A good topic came up this
- 4:35Speaker 4: week on Patriots on Filter that I thought we haven't
- 4:38Speaker 4: really considered, and that is, if Carter Hunter were there,
- 4:41Speaker 4: did the Patriots consider trading down it was you know,
- 4:43Speaker 4: someone called in had a question.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Evan.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I thought you had a great response because initially I said, well,
- 4:47Speaker 4: if you have two potentially transcendent players, you gotta take one.
- 4:51Speaker 4: But as you laid out, maybe there's a package that
- 4:54Speaker 4: could make sense for the Patriots to trade down even
- 4:56Speaker 4: if they are there.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I wouldn't fault them if they took either player,
- 5:00Speaker 3: hold it against them one bit. I would not trade
- 5:03Speaker 3: out of the Travis Hunter pick. If Travis Hunter is there,
- 5:05Speaker 3: I think their need at wide receiver coupled with his
- 5:08Speaker 3: talent is just so overwhelmingly positive to make him the pick.
- 5:12Speaker 3: With Abdul Carter, I love the player, Abdul card has
- 5:15Speaker 3: nothing to do with his talent, but it feels a
- 5:17Speaker 3: little bit like the cherry on top of a good
- 5:20Speaker 3: offseason for the defense and the offense is really gonna
- 5:23Speaker 3: be shorthanded. I just don't see how you come out
- 5:25Speaker 3: of this draft where they starting caliber left tackle and
- 5:28Speaker 3: a receiver that can make an impact if you're not
- 5:31Speaker 3: using your top pick on one of those two positions.
- 5:34Speaker 3: So I look at the trade down scenario that the
- 5:37Speaker 3: Texans got, for example, for Will Anderson, or the Texans
- 5:40Speaker 3: used to get Will Anderson with the Arizona pick they
- 5:44Speaker 3: traded to the Cardinals move up nine spots in that draft.
- 5:48Speaker 3: They gave up a second round pick and a future
- 5:51Speaker 3: first round pick to move up those nine spots. If
- 5:54Speaker 3: you're the Patriots in Chicago, calls who has two second
- 5:57Speaker 3: round picks in this draft, and they offer you their
- 5:59Speaker 3: second round pick and their twenty twenty six first round
- 6:03Speaker 3: pick to go from four to ten, do you consider that?
- 6:06Speaker 3: If you say no, then that's totally fair. But if
- 6:09Speaker 3: it's Carter alone on the board and that's a package
- 6:13Speaker 3: that comes across your desk, I think you have to
- 6:15Speaker 3: consider it.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 4: What do you think, Paul about trading down?
- 6:18Speaker 6: Yeah, And here's the thing. Do you feel like Carter
- 6:21Speaker 6: and Hunter are just head and shoulders the best players
- 6:24Speaker 6: in this draft? Or do you think that they're special
- 6:26Speaker 6: players in any draft? And I think that's a distinction
- 6:30Speaker 6: that needs to be made. My gut reaction would be
- 6:32Speaker 6: to take Carter if I had my choice of anybody
- 6:34Speaker 6: in this draft. I think he's going to be a
- 6:36Speaker 6: special player. I think that those athletic edge guys are
- 6:41Speaker 6: very important and they're worthy of taking in the top five.
- 6:45Speaker 6: But when Evan started talking about it during the week
- 6:47Speaker 6: when we talked on Patriots Unfiltered. He makes a compelling
- 6:50Speaker 6: argument that if you can add a second round pick,
- 6:52Speaker 6: and all of a sudden you have those extra picks
- 6:54Speaker 6: in Day two, and then you add a future first
- 6:56Speaker 6: round pick. I've never really considered the idea of a
- 6:59Speaker 6: trade down that involved the team trading up being able
- 7:03Speaker 6: to draft either Carter or a Hunter, and so I
- 7:06Speaker 6: have automatically diminished the value of that trade. Well, it
- 7:10Speaker 6: was one of those two guys is available, you might
- 7:12Speaker 6: be able to get what Evan's talking about.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Yeah, what do you think?
- 7:14Speaker 4: I know you and Chris have kicked around some trade scenarios.
- 7:16Speaker 7: I think I think you take Hunter Carter's option one
- 7:19Speaker 7: A one B there. On the mock draft simulator we're
- 7:22Speaker 7: using a lot of the trades aren't really including future
- 7:26Speaker 7: first round pick. So if you can get a next
- 7:28Speaker 7: year pick and swap this year and get a second maybe,
- 7:31Speaker 7: but I think it's just a little risky and you
- 7:33Speaker 7: can get the blue chip prospect there.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not doing it unless that first round pick
- 7:37Speaker 3: is involved. The future first round pick I should say too,
- 7:40Speaker 3: if it's if there's no twenty twenty six first round pick.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Then I'm taking the player and happily taking the player.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I just this team has a lot of holes, specifically
- 7:48Speaker 3: on the offensive side of the ball, and if you
- 7:50Speaker 3: keep hammering high assets on defense, you're gonna have all
- 7:53Speaker 3: your free agency money spent on defense. You're gonna have
- 7:55Speaker 3: the fourth overall pick spent on defense. At some point,
- 7:58Speaker 3: you got to give Drake Mason hell on the offense
- 8:00Speaker 3: side of the ball.
- 8:02Speaker 7: What's up, everybody, We're back again for the mock draft
- 8:05Speaker 7: segment of the Patriots Draft.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Count On podcast presented by Bud Light Chris.
- 8:08Speaker 7: We were just talking about latest news and Paul and
- 8:11Speaker 7: Duce brought up a good point that the Patriots, now
- 8:14Speaker 7: there's some potential trade scenarios because as we've heard cam Ward,
- 8:18Speaker 7: the Titans are showing more interest. Shoulder might go to
- 8:21Speaker 7: the Giants. So if those two go, that means Hunter
- 8:23Speaker 7: and orc Harder are going to be available.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 7: So that being said, like if you're a team and
- 8:28Speaker 7: you could trade you know, one and next year's one
- 8:32Speaker 7: and a two, like the Patriots.
- 8:34Speaker 5: Could maybe do that, I think so.
- 8:35Speaker 7: Yeah, But that being said, we both I don't want
- 8:38Speaker 7: to trade I want to take one of the players.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yeah, so definitely, we both have talked about that ahead
- 8:42Speaker 1: of this show, and I think you know, the Patriots
- 8:46Speaker 1: are in a really good spot. Yes, they have picks
- 8:48Speaker 1: to leverage trade scenarios. For example, I mean talking about
- 8:52Speaker 1: Brandon I you somehow still available this year, second year
- 8:55Speaker 1: in a Rowers name's flowing around if you want to
- 8:57Speaker 1: maybe use one of those thirds, maybe second if he's
- 9:00Speaker 1: worth it, try to work that into a package for
- 9:03Speaker 1: Brandon Ayuk. But you know, there's all there's a whole
- 9:06Speaker 1: lot of scenarios you can break down. But I know
- 9:08Speaker 1: for me and you, we'd like to just let them,
- 9:10Speaker 1: let them have a natural.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Draft, Okay.
- 9:11Speaker 7: And guys, so that being said, we're gonna do a
- 9:13Speaker 7: three round mock, and that means we have four picks. Yea,
- 9:16Speaker 7: four picks. So Chris, I'll let you do your your four,
- 9:19Speaker 7: then I'll do my.
- 9:20Speaker 5: We'll discuss.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah. So Chris Cassid mock Draft one.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Point oh one four Travis Hunter, Gay Travis Hunter, second
- 9:30Speaker 1: round pick, Ariante ERSI the tackle at of Minnesota, first
- 9:34Speaker 1: pick of round three.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Uh j T.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna try my best on this one. Two Moloau
- 9:41Speaker 1: and the third round seventy seventh overall pick Isaiah Bond
- 9:46Speaker 1: from Texas. The receiver also played at Alabama in twenty
- 9:49Speaker 1: twenty three and twenty twenty two.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But those are my Those are.
- 9:52Speaker 1: My four guys off the board for the Patriots in
- 9:55Speaker 1: rounds one through three.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Cool.
- 9:56Speaker 7: And so that being said, Chris, like a lot happens,
- 9:59Speaker 7: we use out mock draft database, and so when I
- 10:02Speaker 7: did mine, I just want to announce the first three picks,
- 10:05Speaker 7: which was cam Ward Shader Sanders and righty for this
- 10:09Speaker 7: Jalen Milroe. So that love Hunter and Carter on the board.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Sneaky. There might be better quarterbacks, but.
- 10:14Speaker 7: It was just interesting. Look at Thatbby said. I took
- 10:16Speaker 7: Carter at the number four pick, Penn State edge rusher.
- 10:20Speaker 7: Patriots need that. That's a potentially generational edge rusher. In
- 10:25Speaker 7: the second round, this is where it gets interesting. I
- 10:27Speaker 7: took Trey Amos from Ole, miss who I mentioned in
- 10:30Speaker 7: last week's episode. Just hitting the corner there, because you
- 10:33Speaker 7: know you miss it with Hunter. With the third round
- 10:36Speaker 7: pick Wyatt Millum, offensive tackle from West Virginia, YEP. And
- 10:40Speaker 7: then the third the third third round pick is Jane
- 10:44Speaker 7: Higgins from Iowa State. So, as Evan Lazari has said,
- 10:47Speaker 7: this needs to be a fairway draft for the Patriots.
- 10:49Speaker 5: You get your edge rusher, cornerback.
- 10:51Speaker 7: I know we just signed Carlton Davis, but you know
- 10:53Speaker 7: you can always find space for those guys there.
- 10:55Speaker 2: It needs to be a heavy need draft.
- 10:58Speaker 5: YEP.
- 10:58Speaker 2: That's what it has to.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Be for the Patriots this year and again starting with
- 11:02Speaker 1: my first overall pick at Travis Hunter. I know you
- 11:05Speaker 1: have Abdual Carter, so it's good that we got to
- 11:06Speaker 1: have both of those, the both of those topics. But
- 11:10Speaker 1: Travis Hunter, I mean the wide receiver numbers that he
- 11:15Speaker 1: put up this past year at Colorado, we're just absolutely insane.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Like for him to go out there, he had fifteen
- 11:22Speaker 1: touchdowns over twelve hundred, twelve hundred yards and ninety six receptions.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Ninety six receptions like that, that is an insane number.
- 11:32Speaker 1: He's your primary target, shooter is primary target obviously, but
- 11:36Speaker 1: like someone putting up those numbers and then going to
- 11:38Speaker 1: play defensive back and I having four interceptions and I
- 11:41Speaker 1: think it was eleven pass deflections this year, like like
- 11:44Speaker 1: that's it's so impressive to me that someone could do
- 11:47Speaker 1: that on both sides of the ball, Like, I don't
- 11:49Speaker 1: know how you can't go with best available. So if
- 11:51Speaker 1: a duel Carter and Travis Hunter somehow are both on
- 11:54Speaker 1: the board in that situation, like I don't know how
- 11:57Speaker 1: you choose, you know what I mean, But for me,
- 11:59Speaker 1: it would be trying.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Like I said, it's option one, A, one B.
- 12:03Speaker 7: The cornerback situation for Trey Amos, like that is just
- 12:06Speaker 7: he jumped to the sec he was with the raging
- 12:08Speaker 7: Cajuns in Louisiana then he went to Bama. I just
- 12:11Speaker 7: with the way the mock was working and the board was,
- 12:13Speaker 7: that was what I thought was the best player on
- 12:15Speaker 7: the board. They also had Josh Simmons from Ohio State,
- 12:18Speaker 7: who he just blew out his knee last year, and
- 12:20Speaker 7: so I think it's just a bit risky to use
- 12:22Speaker 7: that high second round pick on a player that might
- 12:24Speaker 7: not be ready yet. So that's why I went for
- 12:26Speaker 7: the tackle In the third round. Wyatt Milan played a
- 12:29Speaker 7: bit of right tackle, bit of left and like, let's
- 12:31Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 12:31Speaker 5: If he's gonna be a Day one guy, but he
- 12:33Speaker 5: was the best tackle.
- 12:34Speaker 1: But what's good with Milan for your first third round pick?
- 12:37Speaker 1: I mean he really did play primarily at left tackle,
- 12:40Speaker 1: and that's what the Patriots need to fill. And for me,
- 12:42Speaker 1: that's why I have it going a little bit earlier.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I think that's a much more important position. The need
- 12:47Speaker 1: to get a little bit higher up, especially in the
- 12:49Speaker 1: second round, if you're not going to go in the
- 12:50Speaker 1: first round with a tackle. I think arianta Ursie. I
- 12:55Speaker 1: mean he's a stud. He played his last thirty eight
- 12:57Speaker 1: games of his career at Minnesota at left tackle. He
- 13:01Speaker 1: knows the position. He's six six, he's like three hundred
- 13:04Speaker 1: and fifty pounds, he's earth three hundred and fifteen pounds.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Are a big boy, yeah, And I mean he's got
- 13:09Speaker 1: good quickness, good Agility's kind of get off the edge.
- 13:12Speaker 2: You need.
- 13:13Speaker 1: You need someone to protect your quarterback. You need someone
- 13:15Speaker 1: to protect Drake May. You got Morgan Moses on the
- 13:19Speaker 1: other side, Ursery on the other on the left.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 7: So let's get to the receivers. You had Isaiah Bond,
- 13:24Speaker 7: I had Higgins. Now, Chris, I'm gonna say, I'm I'm
- 13:27Speaker 7: not giving up hope on the current Patriots receivers yet.
- 13:30Speaker 7: No Polk, it was only his first year. Last year
- 13:33Speaker 7: could have been an anomaly Stefan Diggs, He's visited. Like, listen,
- 13:37Speaker 7: if if I don't think we need the receiver that
- 13:40Speaker 7: high unless it's Travis Hunter. Other than that, Like, I'm
- 13:43Speaker 7: fine with giving these guys another chance because at the
- 13:46Speaker 7: end of the day, it's not gonna be a one
- 13:47Speaker 7: year fix. Yes, you want to you want to see progression.
- 13:50Speaker 7: If you if you hit on somebody in the fourth
- 13:52Speaker 7: round like a Higgins are a Bond, awesome, But I
- 13:54Speaker 7: don't think if it's not Carter, it doesn't need to
- 13:57Speaker 7: be that high.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, for me, the appeal for Isaiah Bond.
- 14:01Speaker 1: He was kind of in the shadows of Matthew Golden
- 14:03Speaker 1: this past year Texas Matthew going almost a thousand yard receiver,
- 14:06Speaker 1: had nine touchdowns over there for the Longhorns. You know,
- 14:09Speaker 1: at Alabama, he was behind Jermaine Burton now currently at
- 14:14Speaker 1: the Cincinnati Bengals. But he's a guy, he's versatile. He
- 14:18Speaker 1: had almost I think seven undred yards from scrimmagers, but
- 14:21Speaker 1: I think it six d and forty one yards of scrimmages.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Past year.
- 14:24Speaker 1: He ran the ball multiple times, multiple touchdowns rushing. He
- 14:28Speaker 1: had six touchdowns receiving this year.
- 14:31Speaker 2: You know, the Patriots sort of have that type of versatility.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Five eleven.
- 14:35Speaker 1: He's a little bit short, but he's got burner speed,
- 14:38Speaker 1: pop Douglas esque body build. But you could throw him
- 14:41Speaker 1: on the outside and he could be effective. You know,
- 14:43Speaker 1: he has that four three nine forty yard dash speed,
- 14:47Speaker 1: that burner mentality, you know, just down the sideline, hit
- 14:50Speaker 1: and pair deep all soo, you.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Know he has all the factors to be a wide
- 14:54Speaker 2: receiver that it can show plenty of production in the NFL.
- 14:58Speaker 7: Ye, No, it's it's listening you just fourth round is
- 15:02Speaker 7: the meat of the draft. You want ahead of these guys.
- 15:04Speaker 7: They need to be productive and that's all that matters.
- 15:06Speaker 7: But Chris, I'd be good with either of these mocks.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely absolutely, And I didn't. I want to touch
- 15:11Speaker 1: on j T Again'm gonna try it again tooy Moloau.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You know, all first seem big tens past year for
- 15:19Speaker 1: Ohio State obviously national champion, just absolutely sod twelve and
- 15:23Speaker 1: a half sacks this past year. B Sofie, she's a
- 15:27Speaker 1: big fella, but he ran a four to six two
- 15:29Speaker 1: at the combine this past season. All right, this draft
- 15:32Speaker 1: combine like with speed like that at two hundred and
- 15:35Speaker 1: sixty nine pounds.
- 15:36Speaker 2: You're ere quick, yeah, and you.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Got to get to the quarterback and the Patriots need that.
- 15:40Speaker 1: They have Harold Landry, they have Kelon White, they have
- 15:43Speaker 1: Afony Jennings, but I think you need a true edge
- 15:46Speaker 1: rusher and I think Tooy Molao moloau got it is
- 15:51Speaker 1: one of those types of players.
- 15:52Speaker 5: And Chrissy can't teach speed.
- 15:53Speaker 7: But guys, thank you for tuning into this segment of
- 15:55Speaker 7: the Draft Countdown podcast. With the mock draft segment. We
- 15:58Speaker 7: got Evan lazar next doing a position, so guys, we'll
- 16:00Speaker 7: get to that.
- 16:02Speaker 3: What's up, everybody, It's Evan Lazarre. Welcome back into the
- 16:05Speaker 3: Patriots Draft Countdown film room.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Today.
- 16:07Speaker 3: We're going to talk about the cornerbacks, not necessarily a
- 16:11Speaker 3: major position to need for the Patriots after free agency,
- 16:14Speaker 3: but you all know why we're talking about the cornerbacks.
- 16:16Speaker 3: It's this guy right here right, Travis Hunter, the Heisman
- 16:19Speaker 3: Trophy winner. We're going to get to him in a second,
- 16:21Speaker 3: but I do want to talk about some of the
- 16:23Speaker 3: other guys in this class that I really like. Will
- 16:25Speaker 3: Johnson's the other blue chip prospect, if you will, out
- 16:28Speaker 3: of Michigan really good National Championship season, some injuries last year.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Jiehati Bearn two from Texas, one of my favorite players
- 16:36Speaker 3: in this class.
- 16:36Speaker 2: But let's talk about.
- 16:37Speaker 3: That number one guy right there, Travis Hunter. We know
- 16:40Speaker 3: he plays both ways. You can see him down here
- 16:42Speaker 3: at the bottom of the screen against the Torah McMillan
- 16:45Speaker 3: from Arizona, and he's just going to run the route
- 16:48Speaker 3: for Teed McMillan here in press coverage, and you see
- 16:50Speaker 3: how smooth he is off the line of scrimmage, his
- 16:53Speaker 3: change of direction, his ability and those ball skills to
- 16:56Speaker 3: get his.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Hand in there.
- 16:57Speaker 3: That is how he can play manta man at a
- 16:59Speaker 3: high level. Up here at the top of the screen, though,
- 17:01Speaker 3: we're going to play a bail technique, So he's just
- 17:03Speaker 3: going to drop off the line here into a Cover
- 17:07Speaker 3: three or a quarters zone and watch the ball skills,
- 17:10Speaker 3: watch the explosiveness in the jump to knock that pass
- 17:13Speaker 3: away on the vertical route. And then the last one
- 17:15Speaker 3: here is the highlight of his season. I would say,
- 17:18Speaker 3: probably one of the best interceptions you'll ever see in
- 17:20Speaker 3: college football. So he's going to play the flat in
- 17:23Speaker 3: cover two. Now, the safety is deep safety deep right here,
- 17:27Speaker 3: and as we roll this play, he's just going to
- 17:29Speaker 3: midpoint the deep receiver and the underneath receiver. If we
- 17:33Speaker 3: can pause it right here, you can see him just
- 17:35Speaker 3: kind of eyeing the quarterback right now in the backfield
- 17:38Speaker 3: right where is he going to throw this football and
- 17:40Speaker 3: watch this break on the ball. I mean, that's just silly.
- 17:42Speaker 3: That's just ridiculous. Explosiveness. Clicking clothes interception there by Travis Hunter.
- 17:48Speaker 3: That's why everybody is just going crazy about him as
- 17:51Speaker 3: a cornerback prospect. Ball skills, ballhwking traits, explosiveness, man to
- 17:56Speaker 3: man coverage ability, great feel for zone coverage. He's just
- 17:59Speaker 3: got at that position. A couple of other guys here
- 18:02Speaker 3: to just talk about. Maybe closer to Day two, I
- 18:05Speaker 3: think mid first round for Jahati Baron, who's just an
- 18:08Speaker 3: absolute dog. I mean, this guy plays the nickel. Reminds
- 18:11Speaker 3: me a lot of Brian Branch in Detroit. Just scrappy,
- 18:14Speaker 3: willing to put his face in there and get his
- 18:16Speaker 3: nose dirty in the run game. Really good covered corner
- 18:19Speaker 3: as well if you want to play him in the side.
- 18:21Speaker 3: And Azure Thomas from Florida State. Right here at the
- 18:24Speaker 3: bottom of the screen. The Patriots are going to target
- 18:26Speaker 3: a middle round cornerback. I think Thomas is going to
- 18:28Speaker 3: be on their board. Long, strappy man, coverage corner that
- 18:33Speaker 3: can do everything the Patriots are going to ask their
- 18:35Speaker 3: cornerbacks to do. So those are the cornerbacks. Obviously, Travis
- 18:38Speaker 3: Hunter is the big one there at the top, but
- 18:40Speaker 3: a couple of other names to watch for in the
- 18:42Speaker 3: top ten as well, and Will Johnson and Jahati Barry.
- 18:45Speaker 3: That's your cornerback breakdown on this episode of Patriots Draft Countdown.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I'm Evan Lazar.
- 18:52Speaker 4: All right, we're talking safeties and cornerbacks here, not positions
- 18:56Speaker 4: of huge need for the Patriots that could run down.
- 18:58Speaker 4: They're both those position groups guys, but much everybody's coming back.
- 19:01Speaker 4: I would say there are maybe some questions in the slot.
- 19:03Speaker 4: We've talked a little bit about that. Marcus Jones has
- 19:06Speaker 4: been there, had some injury issues. Isaiah Bolden's got some
- 19:08Speaker 4: size they have, We've talked about him.
- 19:11Speaker 2: But overall we started you have just what do you.
- 19:13Speaker 5: See the needs at cornerback? Safety?
- 19:14Speaker 4: Right now?
- 19:16Speaker 3: Safety, I would just say that true center fielder, like
- 19:18Speaker 3: can they get it, doesn't necessarily need to be a
- 19:20Speaker 3: guy that's gonna play every snap, but even just that
- 19:23Speaker 3: Deron Harmon roll of on third downs obvious passing situations
- 19:27Speaker 3: free up Kyle Duggar and potentially Jabriel Peppers to play
- 19:30Speaker 3: closer to the line of scrimmage or in the box
- 19:33Speaker 3: at their natural position. So I remember talking to Devin
- 19:36Speaker 3: mccordy over the years and him just saying that they
- 19:39Speaker 3: all kind of had their homes when it was him
- 19:41Speaker 3: and Chung and Deron Harmon up top on third and
- 19:45Speaker 3: eight with the game on the line, everybody knew where
- 19:48Speaker 3: they were going to be at and what their roles were.
- 19:50Speaker 3: So to make this safety group fit together a little
- 19:53Speaker 3: bit better, I think they could maybe target a centerfielder.
- 19:56Speaker 4: What do you think about our cornerbacks, Chris, I know
- 19:58Speaker 4: Carlton Davis big piece there.
- 20:00Speaker 2: That they Yeah, yeah, they brought it.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Just brought in Carlton Davis. So obviously have that one
- 20:04Speaker 1: two punch Gonzo Carlton on each side.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Obviously you have the big guys, Travis Hunter. Obviously we
- 20:09Speaker 2: can get in him if you wanted to.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yeah, well let's jump right into it, Chris, I mean
- 20:13Speaker 4: you mentioned Travis Hunter. I mean, look, he's also you
- 20:15Speaker 4: might make an appearance on the wide receiver list that
- 20:17Speaker 4: would go to well special but yeah, that's and that's
- 20:21Speaker 4: the whole appeal. And I think a lot of the
- 20:22Speaker 4: recent mock drafts, which I know you guys are heavy into,
- 20:26Speaker 4: it seems like maybe they have a chance at Travis Hunter.
- 20:28Speaker 4: And really the question comes down to Chris is is
- 20:30Speaker 4: he a cornerback?
- 20:31Speaker 5: Is he a wide receiver?
- 20:32Speaker 4: And if he is a cornerback, where does he play right?
- 20:34Speaker 2: I think that's something you have to really gauge.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I mean, you have fifteen touchdowns as wide receiver this
- 20:38Speaker 1: past year, like over twelve hundred receiving yards in twelve games.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Like that's crazy.
- 20:43Speaker 1: So the fact that you have that much versatility you
- 20:45Speaker 1: could play both sides of the ball. I was talking
- 20:47Speaker 1: to Tease about this on the on the previous podcast.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You know, Travis Hunter, he's a guy like I really
- 20:54Speaker 1: personally would rather focus more on the wide receiver spot
- 20:57Speaker 1: and keep improving there and try to use him in
- 20:59Speaker 1: some some sort of nickel package or maybe a dime
- 21:03Speaker 1: like try to work him into the into more heavier
- 21:05Speaker 1: defensive back roles. I mean, he has so much potential
- 21:09Speaker 1: and I think he can play both the ball. You
- 21:11Speaker 1: just have to use him correctly.
- 21:12Speaker 4: What do you think.
- 21:13Speaker 7: No, I agree with Chris, I'd rather him play wide receiver.
- 21:16Speaker 7: But with Carlton Davis joining the team, I think like
- 21:18Speaker 7: cornerback's a bit more set right now, so you could
- 21:21Speaker 7: use him in some packages there. That being said, a
- 21:23Speaker 7: lot of the experts are saying the opposite. We're using
- 21:25Speaker 7: them on defense and throw them in some packages and offense.
- 21:28Speaker 4: So yeah, we've we've talked about that. I mean, I
- 21:30Speaker 4: threw on my crazy just months my crazy, you know,
- 21:34Speaker 4: like just play him third down. So I know it's crazy, But.
- 21:37Speaker 5: What have you see from from Hunter?
- 21:38Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not crazy to try to find ways. It's
- 21:41Speaker 3: obviously probably a little bit easier to have him play
- 21:43Speaker 3: full time corner and then moonlight on offense than it
- 21:46Speaker 3: is to do the other direction, just from a preparation standpoint,
- 21:50Speaker 3: Like we've seen Marcus Jones and Spurts do that, right,
- 21:53Speaker 3: So there's guys that have done it at probably a
- 21:55Speaker 3: little bit of a higher level than doing it the
- 21:57Speaker 3: other direction. But I think with Hunter and terms of
- 22:00Speaker 3: his talent, it's really one of the best cornerback prospects
- 22:04Speaker 3: I've seen in my time covering the draft, just all around,
- 22:08Speaker 3: can pretty much do everything. I think his ball skills
- 22:11Speaker 3: or really his instincts and his ball hawking ability or
- 22:14Speaker 3: probably his best traits. You put him in zone coverages,
- 22:17Speaker 3: put him in the flat corner spot, and he has
- 22:20Speaker 3: that ability to click and close and just close on
- 22:22Speaker 3: the football and intercept passes and really make game changing plays.
- 22:27Speaker 3: So after they've signed Carlon Davis, it doesn't feel like
- 22:29Speaker 3: that's the direction they would go in. But I have thought,
- 22:33Speaker 3: you know, in my dreams about Christian Gonzales on one
- 22:36Speaker 3: side on the boundary, I'm going to take this guy
- 22:38Speaker 3: man to man, and then you have Travis Hunter on
- 22:40Speaker 3: the other side, ball hawking and just reading the quarterback
- 22:43Speaker 3: and having eyes in the backfield. It's a really intriguing thing.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But I think what I.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Come back to with Hunter is you can feed him
- 22:51Speaker 3: the rock on offense and he can impact the game
- 22:54Speaker 3: by touching the ball eight, nine, ten times a game
- 22:57Speaker 3: on offense, and he might have one chance on defense
- 23:01Speaker 3: to really get his hands on the football. And when
- 23:03Speaker 3: you watch him play his game breaking speed in the
- 23:06Speaker 3: open field, it's like, how do you not get that
- 23:08Speaker 3: guy the ball as much as possible? So that's where
- 23:12Speaker 3: I come back to with corner is just is it
- 23:14Speaker 3: really gonna move the needle as much as him playing
- 23:17Speaker 3: wide receiver.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Yeah, let's move down the list a little bit and
- 23:19Speaker 4: we'll kind of group these guys together.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I don't need to delineate them.
- 23:21Speaker 4: We'll be kind of like the Patriots coaching staff, We're
- 23:23Speaker 4: gonna just prefer we're all defensive backs here. But John
- 23:27Speaker 4: Ay Barron from Texas, Will Johnson from Michigan probably the
- 23:30Speaker 4: next two guys up on the list, certainly probably first
- 23:33Speaker 4: half of the first round.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Good players.
- 23:35Speaker 4: I mean, this is just not a huge need for
- 23:36Speaker 4: the Patriots. So at this point we're just we're watching
- 23:38Speaker 4: for fun, right.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Chris, Yeah, I would say so.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I mean those I mean Will Johnson obviously knows how
- 23:43Speaker 1: to win one in Michigan won national championship. I mean
- 23:46Speaker 1: his again, his ability to close on the football really impressive.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I mean, like you said, kind of that one, two
- 23:53Speaker 1: three is Barrett Johnson Hunter.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I would say next year for me, I would probably
- 23:59Speaker 2: put at least if the Patriots.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Were gonna look outside the box at the cornerback, maybe
- 24:03Speaker 1: late round draft. Denzel Burke I really like a lot
- 24:06Speaker 1: out of Ohio State. Obviously, you know, third team All
- 24:11Speaker 1: Big Tens. Past year kind of regressed a little bit.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It was a little bit better in twenty twenty three,
- 24:17Speaker 1: second team All American. But you know he has a
- 24:19Speaker 1: lot of promise. He had forty eight total tackles this season.
- 24:22Speaker 1: We really close out on the football. Same like Jacob
- 24:25Speaker 1: Parrish is another guy fifty total tackles this year.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I mean he's quick.
- 24:29Speaker 1: He had three pass deflections against the Scinnati, just absolutely
- 24:32Speaker 1: dominated that game. So I mean they need a guy
- 24:35Speaker 1: that can get downhill and also gonna make.
- 24:36Speaker 2: The plays outside. So I think that's really important.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it give you some guys teas.
- 24:40Speaker 7: I really like Trey Amos from Mississippi made the jump
- 24:43Speaker 7: to the SEC. Thirteen pass breakups, fifty tackles. And it
- 24:47Speaker 7: gets interesting because say, if the Patriots take Carter, Like,
- 24:50Speaker 7: you know, our receiver room's pretty jammed right now, so
- 24:52Speaker 7: do you maybe make a high pick at another corner
- 24:55Speaker 7: and try to lock up the secondary. I also like
- 24:58Speaker 7: some later round Oh you mentioned Denzel Burke too, but
- 25:00Speaker 7: some later round guys are really like Jalen Hylott Hyatt.
- 25:03Speaker 7: He's US seed, very versatile, plays nickel safety corner. It
- 25:06Speaker 7: might be a good late round fine for the pageots there.
- 25:08Speaker 3: You guys have been watching some film. I think you
- 25:12Speaker 3: know you mentioned Will Johnson and just really quickly on him.
- 25:15Speaker 3: When I made my list of potential guys at four
- 25:19Speaker 3: overall way back in January and started watching the top
- 25:22Speaker 3: of the draft, Will Johnson was on the list. I mean,
- 25:24Speaker 3: he is a blue chip prospect in a lot of ways.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Had a down year last year, coming with an injury
- 25:32Speaker 3: coming off the National Championship game, but with guys like that,
- 25:35Speaker 3: I tend to think he had nothing left to prove
- 25:38Speaker 3: at the college football level and just kind of had
- 25:40Speaker 3: to go back to school because he was an underclassman
- 25:42Speaker 3: and didn't have a choice. So last year was almost
- 25:44Speaker 3: like a last year for him in a lot of ways,
- 25:47Speaker 3: and so I understand that it wasn't quite as good.
- 25:49Speaker 3: But you go back to the year prior and you
- 25:52Speaker 3: watch him, you know, go toe to toe with Romadoonze
- 25:54Speaker 3: in the National Championship Game, and you watch him, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 3: cover some of the best receivers in college football, extremely
- 26:00Speaker 3: high level. I don't know if I would put this
- 26:03Speaker 3: guy in this air as you know easily as some others,
- 26:05Speaker 3: but he does get some Patrick Surtan comparisons. You know,
- 26:08Speaker 3: just extremely natural, fluid, smooth athlete that just looks like
- 26:13Speaker 3: a corner like you just you look at him, kind
- 26:15Speaker 3: of like Gonzo and you're just like, that's that's an
- 26:18Speaker 3: elite cornerback, right, That's how I would describe Will Johnson.
- 26:23Speaker 3: You mentioned Jahati Baron, who I think is a really
- 26:25Speaker 3: interesting player. I love me some Jahati Baron. Brian Branch
- 26:29Speaker 3: two point zero, scrappy plays Nickel, plays the safety position,
- 26:34Speaker 3: can play man to man, but has a nose for
- 26:35Speaker 3: the football, great instincts, not afraid to make tackles in
- 26:38Speaker 3: the run game. He is a very very good player.
- 26:42Speaker 3: He's probably going to go top twenty, top twenty five.
- 26:45Speaker 3: So I don't know if the Patriots are necessarily going
- 26:48Speaker 3: to be in that category. But those are kind of
- 26:50Speaker 3: the Day one guys. I wouldn't say there's a ton
- 26:53Speaker 3: of Day one corners in this class. It's kind of
- 26:55Speaker 3: those three dudes. But then you get to the top
- 26:57Speaker 3: of the second round is when you get to you know,
- 26:59Speaker 3: the size, speed guys like Maxwell Harriston and Darien Porter,
- 27:04Speaker 3: maybe Bullio a little later. Yeah, Zion Thomas, Yeah, he
- 27:08Speaker 3: was at he was at the Senior Bowl and very
- 27:12Speaker 3: you know, strappy, kind of feisty man coverage corner, so
- 27:16Speaker 3: he would fit the bill for the Patriots as well.
- 27:18Speaker 4: High character guy too. I just wanted to throw in
- 27:19Speaker 4: Sebastian Castro from Iowa, who's you know, lower round guy,
- 27:23Speaker 4: you know, kind of safety de beat but slot guy,
- 27:25Speaker 4: but just a guy plays with his hair on fire.
- 27:27Speaker 4: He's just one of those aggressive guys in the slot.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Really liked the one thing that stood out to me.
- 27:30Speaker 4: He was ten and a half inch hands for like
- 27:32Speaker 4: a cornerback, which is just to me, he's just you know,
- 27:35Speaker 4: a bunch of it's a bunch of bananas, you know.
- 27:37Speaker 4: But when you talk about you know what guys could
- 27:40Speaker 4: kind of fit, you know, like that's a role where
- 27:42Speaker 4: you need some steadiness in the slot, you need some aggressiveness.
- 27:45Speaker 4: He seems like his play temperament kind of kind of
- 27:47Speaker 4: fits Mike Rabel's style.
- 27:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree.
- 27:49Speaker 7: Also is Jalen Smith by the way from USCA. I
- 27:51Speaker 7: believe it's at high But also another guy like is
- 27:53Speaker 7: Kobe Bryant. Oh, I got Kobe Bryan on nickel corner
- 27:56Speaker 7: and very feisty as well. Jack Jones, Yeah, exactly scary,
- 27:59Speaker 7: good comp loose cannon maybe, but you need that, you
- 28:02Speaker 7: need that, you know, i'd.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Say honor to mention too. Is Schevon Revel from East
- 28:06Speaker 2: Carolina a good one.
- 28:08Speaker 1: He's went down with the injury in September this past year,
- 28:10Speaker 1: of course toward the UCL But you know, he's quick,
- 28:13Speaker 1: He's six three. I mean, he's got the height you
- 28:15Speaker 1: can cover really anyone on the outside. You know, like
- 28:18Speaker 1: that's really appealing for a long to me.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I watched him and he got a lot of credit
- 28:22Speaker 4: for staying at East Carolina, right, you know, sticking with
- 28:25Speaker 4: that program. Probably could have left and gone somewhere else.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Injuries set him back, but you know, certainly could have
- 28:29Speaker 4: been probably much much higher draft pick. He's one of
- 28:32Speaker 4: those guys where maybe an unknown commodity as you as
- 28:34Speaker 4: you make a selection.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I him and like Ben Morrison from Notre Dame
- 28:37Speaker 3: or kind of in the same tier. I would say,
- 28:39Speaker 3: right in like the twenty to forty range, depending on
- 28:42Speaker 3: the injury. Obviously with Rebel, but I he would have
- 28:45Speaker 3: been a first round pick if he didn't get hurt.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Absolutly. Yeah.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Well let's let's wrap things up with a you know,
- 28:49Speaker 4: a couple of safeties here. Nick Monta Worry from from
- 28:51Speaker 4: South Carolina and probably the best safety on the board
- 28:53Speaker 4: all around kind of guy. And Malachi Starks is another
- 28:56Speaker 4: one three year starter at Georgia. We know defense, you
- 28:59Speaker 4: can't get enough of them or guys, but you know,
- 29:01Speaker 4: I think those two guys probably can census top of
- 29:03Speaker 4: the board for safety.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I have Malchi starts with the number one safety
- 29:07Speaker 3: in the class. I just I'm gonna trust the tape
- 29:09Speaker 3: with him. I know he didn't have a great combine,
- 29:11Speaker 3: but he is a football player, you know, instinctive, natural
- 29:15Speaker 3: football player, can play pretty much every safety spot that
- 29:18Speaker 3: you would want him to play, very very good against
- 29:21Speaker 3: the run, but also can play deep, can play probably
- 29:25Speaker 3: wouldn't put him in the post, but like can play
- 29:26Speaker 3: split suit field coverages and things like that. But I
- 29:29Speaker 3: just love his ball instincts and just his overall feel
- 29:32Speaker 3: for the game. I think he's always around the football.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Fun player to watch on tape. And you know, I
- 29:39Speaker 3: see a little bit of Jamal Adams with Nick. Can
- 29:41Speaker 3: you pronounce the last name for him and Worry? Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 3: I think close enough. Yeah, you know, like like I
- 29:47Speaker 3: don't know if he plays the way he tested, Like
- 29:49Speaker 3: he tested like an absolute superhero at the Combine. But
- 29:53Speaker 3: I don't know if I see the play speed like
- 29:55Speaker 3: that on the tape, Like there's a little bit of
- 29:59Speaker 3: Kyle Duggart to him. There's a little bit of Jamal
- 30:01Speaker 3: Adams to him, you know, like probably a box safety
- 30:04Speaker 3: that's gonna play like, you know, pseudo linebacker slashing the slot.
- 30:08Speaker 3: So I like him, but I didn't necessarily I was, like,
- 30:11Speaker 3: you know, really surprised by how well he tested at
- 30:14Speaker 3: the Combine. I didn't necessarily think he was that athletic.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Yeah, anybody else you guys got that we might have
- 30:18Speaker 4: missed that you particularly liked.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I like Kevin Winston from Penn State. That's a great one.
- 30:24Speaker 5: I didn't even bring him for this thing, but.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I thought that was gonna be your guy.
- 30:27Speaker 4: I know, I just I forgot to put him on
- 30:29Speaker 4: my little shortlist. Thanks for presence there kind of ball
- 30:32Speaker 4: last year leadership. You know, just think he's another guy
- 30:36Speaker 4: that way behind.
- 30:37Speaker 7: I think a big thing is I think the current
- 30:38Speaker 7: safety is of Patriots have me to bounce back a little,
- 30:40Speaker 7: which kind of lowers the safety prospects for me.
- 30:43Speaker 5: But that's the guy that stands out to me.
- 30:46Speaker 1: For me, I would say the same position Malachai Moore Alabama.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I mean, really prototypical coverage guy. I mean he's all
- 30:52Speaker 1: around the ball. You can kind of sit back there,
- 30:55Speaker 1: cover two, cover three, however you want him. I think
- 30:57Speaker 1: he's a really solid safety in this class and curious
- 31:00Speaker 1: what the pad up doing.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Maybe yeah, that.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Spot well weird needs, you know. They just like I
- 31:05Speaker 4: could see them taking some of these guys that could
- 31:07Speaker 4: also see them just bypassing both these positions and kind
- 31:09Speaker 4: of rolling what they have.
- 31:10Speaker 7: I think the pick, if it's between Travis Ard and
- 31:13Speaker 7: Abdol Carter affects this whole group.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Are Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Let me just name a few more safeties just so
- 31:19Speaker 3: we get them in there. Because you mentioned mal Chai
- 31:21Speaker 3: Moore is kind of like the Day three guy of
- 31:24Speaker 3: this version. Andrew mccuba from Texas is kind of the
- 31:26Speaker 3: Day two free safety. Uh. He's got great ball skills,
- 31:30Speaker 3: great instincts, can play up top. He's a true free safety,
- 31:33Speaker 3: really good playmaker on the football. Then you go to
- 31:36Speaker 3: Billy Bowman from Oklahoma, who's kind of like the third
- 31:39Speaker 3: fourth round guy that fits that role. And then you
- 31:42Speaker 3: get to Malachai Moore probably fifth, sixth round or somewhere
- 31:45Speaker 3: around there on Day three. So those are if you're
- 31:47Speaker 3: looking for that Deron Harmon, like mccooba is probably a
- 31:50Speaker 3: little bit better than that, Like he's probably going to
- 31:52Speaker 3: be a starting safety in the NFL, getting a lot
- 31:54Speaker 3: of buzz lately, But if you're looking for that type
- 31:57Speaker 3: of player, I would say those are sort of your
- 31:59Speaker 3: three tiers of that from days you know, two to four,
- 32:02Speaker 3: three there at the end of the draft.
- 32:04Speaker 4: All right, well that's going to do it for the
- 32:05Speaker 4: defensive backs as well. As this episode of Patriots Draft Countdown,
- 32:09Speaker 4: we'll be back next week with another episode, pre dowing
- 32:11Speaker 4: the entire draft.
