- 0:11Hello friends, it's Shaun here. And Yep, you guessed it, it's
- 0:16Friday. It is the 21st.
- 0:18Is that where we're after? No, it's the 22nd.
- 0:20It's the 22nd of August. Yes, it's definitely Friday, not
- 0:23Thursday. So great to have your company as
- 0:26you and I on this happy day are going to open up God's Word to
- 0:32the Old Testament, to the book of Proverbs, and gain a little
- 0:36bit more wisdom. The words of Solomon coming to
- 0:40us through the ages. And we will read through seven
- 0:43of them a couple of times and reflect on them and how they
- 0:47might apply to our lives. So friends, let us take this
- 0:51moment to open up our hearts to what God has to say to us
- 0:56through these observations captured here for you and me as
- 1:01we read together. Proverbs, 1522 to 28.
- 1:16Plans go wrong for lack of advice.
- 1:19Many advisors bring success. Everyone enjoys A fitting reply.
- 1:27It is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time.
- 1:32The path of life leads upward for the wise.
- 1:36They leave the grave behind. The Lord tears down the House of
- 1:43the proud, but he protects the property of widows.
- 1:50The Lord detests evil plans, but he delights in pure words.
- 1:58Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate
- 2:02bribes will live. The heart of the godly thinks
- 2:07carefully before speaking. The mouth of the wicked
- 2:11overflows with evil words and again plans go wrong for lack of
- 2:20advice. Many advisers bring success.
- 2:25Everyone enjoys A fitting reply. It's wonderful to say the right
- 2:29thing at the right time. The path of life leads upward
- 2:35for the wise. They leave the grave behind.
- 2:40The Lord tears down the House of the proud, but he protects the
- 2:44property of widows. The Lord detests evil plans, but
- 2:51he delights in pure words. Greed brings grief to the whole
- 2:57family, but those who hate bribes will live.
- 3:03The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking.
- 3:07The mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.
- 3:21Our Lord, we know your heart, and you communicate it so
- 3:25clearly that you do not want us to be proud.
- 3:30Note here in the Proverbs that says that you tear down the
- 3:34House of the proud, but that you protect the property of widows.
- 3:40Your heart is for us to be humble and not to think that we
- 3:46have all the answers, but to continually live as your
- 3:49children. Not standing side by side with
- 3:54the God of the universe thinking how clever we are, but living
- 3:58under your rule, under your sovereignty, in worship and
- 4:02subservience to you. Letting our pride fall the way.
- 4:08And as we do that, knowing that this is your Kingdom, your
- 4:12Kingdom where you love all of us, those who are proud and
- 4:16successful and those who have nothing like like the widow,
- 4:21which at that time when this proverb is written was a
- 4:24dangerous and destitute member of society without a husband to
- 4:28provide for them. So Lord, here we are in our day
- 4:33and age, and I pray that you keep us humble and that you give
- 4:39us your heart so that we can look around.
- 4:42And when we see those who have less than us, those who are
- 4:45struggling, those who society would look past.
- 4:49Or I pray that you would move us to action with humble hearts,
- 4:54knowing that we are all loved and provided for by you.
- 4:57And sometimes the provision of others can come through US and
- 5:03the gifts that you've given us. So give us your heart, your
- 5:06generous, gracious, loving heart, and we pray all of this
- 5:13through your wonderful name, Jesus, Amen.
