- 0:26Speaker 1: the Oscar nominated song Sung Blue, Given love to Neil
- 0:29Speaker 1: Diamond handing out flowers in the month of January. The
- 0:33Speaker 1: champs are down, but are they out? And our special
- 0:35Speaker 1: guests the elite goals scorer Seth Jarvis of your Hurricanes.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We've got Nate Thompson joining us as well as our
- 0:41Speaker 1: special guests in case you missed it last week. And
- 0:43Speaker 1: ATE's going to be a special contributor from time to
- 0:45Speaker 1: time here on Scripted, especially with JD heading off to
- 0:47Speaker 1: the Olympics. Here momentarily, I am back from the Twin Cities.
- 0:50Speaker 1: What a time to go to Minnesota for the first
- 0:52Speaker 1: time ever. Thankfully, ice agents were not out on the
- 0:56Speaker 1: streets of Saint Paul where I was staying at the
- 0:58Speaker 1: Marray Courtyard and then going to see the wild playing
- 1:00Speaker 1: on Tals Canadians. As the Habs lose it, they do
- 1:03Speaker 1: get a valiant point after an early deficit. I'll say
- 1:05Speaker 1: this for the Twin Cities JD. I'd never been to
- 1:07Speaker 1: Minnesota before. Do you remind me A lot of Canada,
- 1:09Speaker 1: A lot of snow, very friendly people, quite cold. The
- 1:12Speaker 1: walleye I heard was outstanding, so I had to go
- 1:14Speaker 1: get some walleye from the Saint Paul Hotel. Heavily battered though,
- 1:18Speaker 1: so I had to take all the batter off and
- 1:19Speaker 1: eat it. But the wild rice soup was outstanding.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Did you get the wild rice soup? That is?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Shane Nighty as we walked by, goes that's the place
- 1:27Speaker 1: to get wild rice soup. I go, okay, So after
- 1:29Speaker 1: morning skate I went there. Walleye way too much batter.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Would have liked to see her or grilled perhaps, but
- 1:34Speaker 1: the wild rice soup. I wouldn't say it's a reason
- 1:37Speaker 1: to go to the Twin Cities, but if you're there,
- 1:38Speaker 1: going to do it. The other one was my buddy
- 1:40Speaker 1: Craig Norquis, a great research at MLB Network, and Joe
- 1:43Speaker 1: engel Brag FORIGN producer Cinephile, both guys from the Twin Cities.
- 1:46Speaker 1: They said, you've got to go to Mattz. There's either
- 1:48Speaker 1: match or the five eight, and they have what's called
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Juicy Lucy. I said, okay, what's the Juicy Lucy?
- 1:53Speaker 1: He goes, you'll you'll find it, all right, I go
- 1:54Speaker 1: take an uber, hop in the Mats. I first had
- 1:56Speaker 1: to go to target Field because I love Kirry Puckets.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I was like, I'm just going to see Kurry Pucket statute,
- 2:00Speaker 1: a couple of pictures. All right, hop in the uber,
- 2:01Speaker 1: go to Matts. I walk in and then this side
- 2:03Speaker 1: even says home the original Juicy Lucy. Great, small little diner.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Can I get a Juicy Lucy? Is like yeah, because
- 2:09Speaker 1: your first time. I'm like it is. He's like, got
- 2:11Speaker 1: ten dollars and seventy five cents. Normal burger is like
- 2:14Speaker 1: four bucks.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Like okay, and he.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Goes, just one bit of advice, because just get a
- 2:17Speaker 1: couple minutes for you bite, otherwise the cheese will burn you.
- 2:20Speaker 1: The cheese is inside the burger. That's what it's called
- 2:23Speaker 1: the Juicy Lucy. So I took one little bite, I'm like,
- 2:25Speaker 1: oh my god, he's right. The cheese just starts coming
- 2:27Speaker 1: out of the burger. I've never said anything like that,
- 2:29Speaker 1: but a delicious burger right off the grill. I highly
- 2:32Speaker 1: recommend the Juicy Lucy for Matts. That's how they get
- 2:35Speaker 1: it done. I said, what's the dessert known in the
- 2:37Speaker 1: Twin Cities. They said, well, mainly just cheese curds. They go, well,
- 2:40Speaker 1: cheese curds is Wisconsin. My sister in laws on Wiscons
- 2:42Speaker 1: I know where.
- 2:42Speaker 2: To get the good cheesers dessert either.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yeah, not desserve, like that's a snack. I'm like, I
- 2:45Speaker 1: don't really know what your dessert is. But even at
- 2:48Speaker 1: the arena when we go there to eat and Shane looks, look, well,
- 2:51Speaker 1: they got wild rice soup. So they wild rice flowing
- 2:54Speaker 1: freely in the Twin Cities. They dominate there. And I'll
- 2:57Speaker 1: tell you one thing. I had asked our friend Thomas Sikey,
- 2:59Speaker 1: what is the Montreal of Minnesota, saying Montreal is the
- 3:01Speaker 1: best place to watch a hockey game in Canada, and
- 3:04Speaker 1: he was probably Minnesota. He was like, Minnesota, they love
- 3:06Speaker 1: their hockey there. It's the state of hockey. They more
- 3:08Speaker 1: care about high school hockey and Gophers. He said, yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: but even the wild game, you're gonna love it. And
- 3:13Speaker 1: for a building that's been around for twenty five years,
- 3:16Speaker 1: I gotta admit the crowd is awesome. It does feel
- 3:18Speaker 1: kind of like a lodge you walk around. They got
- 3:20Speaker 1: all the high school jerseys everywhere, a lot of wood
- 3:22Speaker 1: paneling and such. And my last thought before I kick
- 3:24Speaker 1: it to you, all I cared about, of course, is
- 3:26Speaker 1: far Ago, one of my favorite movies. So I said,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I just want to hear the accent and wasn't really
- 3:30Speaker 1: hearing at mauch walking around people. I'm like nothing, all
- 3:32Speaker 1: kind of sound normal. And then finally I went to Mickey's,
- 3:35Speaker 1: which is featured in the Mighty Ducks movie and jingle
- 3:38Speaker 1: all the way and I walked in and I said,
- 3:39Speaker 1: I'm just looking at you have walas. No, No, we
- 3:41Speaker 1: don't Renan Walleye like, yeah, finally got some Francis Vic
- 3:45Speaker 1: Dorman accents around here. I go, are you sure? I go?
- 3:47Speaker 1: How about wild No wild red soup, the soup we
- 3:49Speaker 1: don't have. No, you'd have to go to Joe's. I said,
- 3:52Speaker 1: traders are no, not trader Joe's, Joe's down the street.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Take it right, You'll be fine, all right? And then
- 3:56Speaker 1: he walked out and literally couldn't even pert time. Two
- 3:58Speaker 1: guys are walking and the one guess is the other guy,
- 4:00Speaker 1: because don't you know what I mean? I was like,
- 4:02Speaker 1: oh my god, Yes, no, I'm in Fargo. Did not
- 4:05Speaker 1: get to awe geez, oh you're darned touting', but it
- 4:08Speaker 1: was definitely in that vein, and our makeup artist was
- 4:12Speaker 1: trust me, if you go to the game, you're gonna
- 4:13Speaker 1: hear a lot more of that accent. By the way,
- 4:15Speaker 1: our makeup artists turned down the chance to work on Fargo.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I'm like what, she goes, I was busy on another job.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I didn't know. But I did work with Joel and
- 4:21Speaker 1: Ethan on A Serious Man, which I know tal knows
- 4:23Speaker 1: is a great movie. So she was redeemed great guys.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Ethan plays the guitar the whole time on set. She goes,
- 4:27Speaker 1: he's the funnier one of the two. Joels a little
- 4:29Speaker 1: bit more serious, but they're great guys. Just give me
- 4:31Speaker 1: an examples. She because this one could ZiT and I
- 4:33Speaker 1: was trying to do the makeup to cover it up.
- 4:35Speaker 1: They go, hey, that's a great sit. When you get
- 4:37Speaker 1: a ZiT like that, you can't do anything with that.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So shout out to the Comb Brothers, shout out to
- 4:42Speaker 1: the Twin Cities. Your thoughts JD on Minneapolis, Minnesota in general.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Are you trying to lead me into like an ice
- 4:48Speaker 2: commet or something.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Just whatever you want to say about Minnesota. Everyone's like,
- 4:51Speaker 1: don't leave your hotel MC no, no, I'm gonna got
- 4:54Speaker 1: f Scott Fitzgerald.
- 4:55Speaker 2: It's probably Yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I mean, I love the food in Minneapolis. When he
- 4:59Speaker 3: used to play there, we used to always drive down
- 5:00Speaker 3: and twenty twenty five minutes from the hotel, and there's
- 5:04Speaker 3: a couple of really good restaurants in Minneapolis. But that
- 5:06Speaker 3: wild rice soup was always the best thing to have.
- 5:11Speaker 3: But unfortunately, you'd like if you'd fly in the night before,
- 5:14Speaker 3: you couldn't eat it, and we got it late the
- 5:16Speaker 3: next day. You're like, do I risk a pregame meal?
- 5:19Speaker 3: And if I risk a pregame meal, you got the
- 5:20Speaker 3: old shitty poos going into the ring, going into the
- 5:24Speaker 3: Excel Energy Center whatever it's called now. But you're walking
- 5:27Speaker 3: over and you are just heavy in the legs. But
- 5:30Speaker 3: it's worth it because that soup is really it is
- 5:33Speaker 3: so good. So much cream, just so just so much cream,
- 5:37Speaker 3: an obscene amount of cream. Yeah, but yeah, I'm glad
- 5:40Speaker 3: you had such a great time. I would just sent
- 5:41Speaker 3: you there's a cool little Italian deli nice that's right
- 5:44Speaker 3: behind the arena there, that's like amazing if everything to.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Finish your thought the wild rice soup. So when I
- 5:49Speaker 1: I when Shane pointed out to me it was there
- 5:51Speaker 1: for the media, and I took one bite, I was like, caigos,
- 5:53Speaker 1: what I go? This isn't as good as the one
- 5:54Speaker 1: I have to save Ball hotel, Like, I'm not going
- 5:56Speaker 1: to double up, like if I elite wild rice soup,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I'm not going to eat it again just for the
- 6:00Speaker 1: sake of eating it. He took a bite of it,
- 6:02Speaker 1: he goes, Yeah, this tastes like it was out of
- 6:03Speaker 1: a can. Exactly. Someone just opened up a can, just
- 6:06Speaker 1: dumped a bunch of soup. That's what we're looking for.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Did you stay at the same Pall hotel?
- 6:10Speaker 1: No, that's where we watch we stay at. Yeah, we
- 6:12Speaker 1: stayed at the Marriott Courtyard, which ye, the same.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Pall hotels, Like they don't have it's only heaters, Like
- 6:20Speaker 3: there's no ac in the building because it's either scorching
- 6:24Speaker 3: hot or you have to open the window, and when
- 6:26Speaker 3: you open the window it's ice cold. So guys would
- 6:28Speaker 3: like be sleeping in this hotel with the windows open
- 6:32Speaker 3: and your feet out trying not to that's crazy.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It looked like it looked like a pristine hotel and
- 6:37Speaker 1: you're telling me, oh.
- 6:38Speaker 2: They might have redid it now, but it was old
- 6:40Speaker 2: and shitty.
- 6:41Speaker 1: But yeah, well I recommend the loude.
- 6:44Speaker 3: So I love that rink that the lights are bright,
- 6:47Speaker 3: and I know people are like, well, the lights are
- 6:49Speaker 3: bright everywhere. There's a difference in like it's very clear. Yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 3: so it's a nice It's a nice rink to watch
- 6:53Speaker 3: a hockey game in play, and I was like playing it.
- 6:55Speaker 3: The ice is great too.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It's awesome to know. It definitely feels like genuine hockey
- 7:00Speaker 1: fans hockey passion.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so let's.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Get into it. Major trade here as there. Timmy Paneren
- 7:06Speaker 1: is going from New York to Los Angeles. We knew
- 7:08Speaker 1: it was going to happen after Chris Jury sent the
- 7:10Speaker 1: email or the letter basically the fans saying, you know,
- 7:12Speaker 1: we're gonna retool, and had talked to Panera but not
- 7:15Speaker 1: getting resigned. So it's a tough position knowing that this
- 7:18Speaker 1: guy's appending free agent. So ultimately the Kings get him.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The Rangers retain fifty percent of air and salary, so
- 7:24Speaker 1: they're gonna pay a hefty chunk here. The trade happens
- 7:27Speaker 1: just before the Olympic roster free starts. They received prospect
- 7:30Speaker 1: Liam Greentree and a conditional third round pick. An signs
- 7:34Speaker 1: a two year extension with LA with an average annual
- 7:36Speaker 1: value of eleven million dollars, so two years, twenty two
- 7:39Speaker 1: Mili The King's right now right twenty eighth in goals
- 7:41Speaker 1: per game. They lack a lot of pizaz. Everyone knows this,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and Captain Andre coptare retiring after the season. We'll get
- 7:47Speaker 1: into New York side of things in just a second.
- 7:49Speaker 1: When you're trading fifty cents in the dollars, so to speak,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you know, this guy's got to move somewhere. But what
- 7:54Speaker 1: do you make of the fact the Kings, who are
- 7:55Speaker 1: parendially to me Jeddy a rather bland team, and it's
- 7:59Speaker 1: epitomized with the fact they don't score many goals. I mean,
- 8:01Speaker 1: Kempy's a great player, but generally they're kind of black
- 8:04Speaker 1: and they just, you know, try to play close games,
- 8:06Speaker 1: tight games, et cetera. Now you get Panarin, who's an
- 8:08Speaker 1: exciting player. Your thoughts the fact not only acquiring him
- 8:11Speaker 1: but also to your extension right away?
- 8:14Speaker 3: I mean, How does Chris Jerry still have a job.
- 8:16Speaker 3: That is my question is my first question to this,
- 8:18Speaker 3: how do you.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Still have Listen?
- 8:21Speaker 3: Great player? Okay, great player. Yeah, we talked about Barry
- 8:25Speaker 3: Trotz stepping down. I think it's time after this trade,
- 8:29Speaker 3: it's time he signed it too. Like, let's just break
- 8:32Speaker 3: this down. He signed two years eleven million, So you're
- 8:33Speaker 3: telling me that that was the money that he was
- 8:36Speaker 3: willing to sign if everything was okay in New York.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Why wouldn't you just sign him that two year, eleven
- 8:41Speaker 3: million dollar deal that still gives you flexibility within the cap?
- 8:44Speaker 1: So why wait, eleven million average Aniel vast So two
- 8:47Speaker 1: years twenty two million, would it not be? Yeah, you're saying, yeah,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I'm saying it's.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Two years twenty two million. Yeah, so eleven a year.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Yeah, But I'm just saying that gives you flexibility because again,
- 8:58Speaker 3: like he didn't want some astronomical fourteen million dollar deal
- 9:01Speaker 3: for five years. He didn't want crazy termy one two years.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Why wouldn't you keep a guy like that. It's a
- 9:05Speaker 3: point of game player that's on the power play. He's
- 9:09Speaker 3: been with your team as a veteran, and if you're
- 9:12Speaker 3: gonna trade him then, so okay, you decide to trade him,
- 9:14Speaker 3: that money's not worth the two great you trade him
- 9:16Speaker 3: for what I mean, Liam green Tree at one hundred
- 9:20Speaker 3: and nineteen points windsor spit far as last year's plus
- 9:22Speaker 3: fifty five, he's on pace for another kind of hundred
- 9:25Speaker 3: points season. Good prospect, offensive prospect. But prospects are are
- 9:30Speaker 3: made to bust. Yeah, but you know the majority of
- 9:34Speaker 3: them don't paint out the way you think, and they're
- 9:35Speaker 3: not gonna turn into our Timmy paneren today, not tomorrow,
- 9:38Speaker 3: not in three years, maybe five to six, So you know,
- 9:43Speaker 3: do I And then the pick you're getting, which we
- 9:46Speaker 3: kind of joke before.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Well, if the King's going to playoff run, the Rangers
- 9:49Speaker 1: get a second round pick, but.
- 9:50Speaker 3: They gotta they're gonna probably end up playing Edmonton in
- 9:52Speaker 3: the first round. They're gonna lose, Like, who are they
- 9:55Speaker 3: gonna get. Let's let's arguably look, if they make it
- 9:57Speaker 3: in the eighth spot, they're getting Colorado. If they make
- 10:00Speaker 3: it in the seventh spot, so the second wild card spot,
- 10:04Speaker 3: get Vegas or Edmonton probably out. If they make a
- 10:08Speaker 3: little bit of a run and make third place, they
- 10:10Speaker 3: play Edmondson or Vegas probably out. Yeah, I don't understand
- 10:13Speaker 3: the trade because also on the LA side, like this
- 10:16Speaker 3: is like two teams to me that just were like, hey,
- 10:19Speaker 3: you want to make a trade. It's kind of stagnant
- 10:21Speaker 3: on both sides. They're probably not going to do anything.
- 10:23Speaker 3: But like for LA, like you have Andrey Kuzmenko, you
- 10:26Speaker 3: just got a better version of Kuzmenko. It's now Kuzmenko
- 10:29Speaker 3: is obsolete. He ain't playing anymore, so you got to
- 10:32Speaker 3: trade him. You need center depth and you need some
- 10:35Speaker 3: d depth. You don't need another winger. You got enough
- 10:38Speaker 3: of the wingers. You're good on the wing, you don't
- 10:41Speaker 3: you don't need another one. So to me, it's just
- 10:44Speaker 3: like I don't get it. It's a really baffling to me.
- 10:47Speaker 3: When I saw Panering get traded LA, I was like, oh, great,
- 10:49Speaker 3: this is cool for what? And then I was like what,
- 10:53Speaker 3: like the what?
- 10:55Speaker 1: Essentially you were saying, I don't want to pay the money? Right,
- 10:57Speaker 1: thirty four years of age. He doesn't think his team's
- 10:59Speaker 1: money in the next two years, So why am I
- 11:00Speaker 1: going to give twenty two million dollars tar? So I
- 11:02Speaker 1: don't see Hiss contending the next two years to argue
- 11:05Speaker 1: you can get a better than Liam green Tree.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I get that, yeah, one hundred percent. I think the
- 11:09Speaker 3: return is what we're arguing. But adding an eleven eleven
- 11:12Speaker 3: a year in the cap going up right now, the
- 11:16Speaker 3: way it's going up, like, it's not an astronomical number
- 11:20Speaker 3: for your top he's arguably your best offensive player. Yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 3: so it's like that eleven million for your best offensive player.
- 11:27Speaker 3: McDavid's making what fourteen, twelve and a half, fourteen.
- 11:31Speaker 1: At a discount, right, twelve and a half.
- 11:33Speaker 3: He's making less than what he makes now, So I'm like,
- 11:35Speaker 3: I don't get it. So to me, I'm like, after you,
- 11:37Speaker 3: after you pen this stupid fucking letter to the fans,
- 11:42Speaker 3: that like is like, give me a break, like you,
- 11:44Speaker 3: But I'm sure you pen this is so.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Now everybody knows. But everybody knows now that you want
- 11:48Speaker 2: to trade.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Correct. That's why I said the fifty cents of the dollar.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Everyone knows you're opening for business. Obviously you're not going
- 11:52Speaker 1: to keep him.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But I'm in a movie.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I didn't have a better trade available. If he did,
- 11:57Speaker 1: he would have pulled it. He went to everybody and
- 11:58Speaker 1: this was the best deal you say could get, Like
- 12:00Speaker 1: all right, this is the guy after you sent a letter, right,
- 12:04Speaker 1: I ain't cut yourself after the letter. I don't trade
- 12:06Speaker 1: him anyways.
- 12:07Speaker 3: I feel like I'm in I'm in a who's the
- 12:10Speaker 3: what's again? I'm in airplane? Right now?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Nice, I picked the wrong stiff and glue.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Yeah, he's sniffing glue. Why show me what's going? What
- 12:21Speaker 3: are you gonna get in the second round? Even if
- 12:23Speaker 3: they make it past the LA second round pick? Are
- 12:26Speaker 3: you gonna get it?
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:28Speaker 4: Pick.
- 12:28Speaker 2: You can't get a first round pick.
- 12:29Speaker 3: You gotta get a second that can turn into a
- 12:31Speaker 3: first at the very least, not a third.
- 12:34Speaker 2: That turns into the second. Man, this is sad.
- 12:38Speaker 1: He's gonna go down one of the great Ranger fees
- 12:40Speaker 1: and signs ever the last of a seventy year, eighty
- 12:43Speaker 1: one point five million dollar contract. If you look at
- 12:45Speaker 1: his numbers over like he was an all time great Ranger.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Like I think people will appreciate him perhaps later on,
- 12:50Speaker 1: but I mean one hundred year history of the franchise.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He was New York's leading scorer every season since joined
- 12:55Speaker 1: the team, fifty seven points in fifty two games this season,
- 12:58Speaker 1: ninth in Rangers history. So there hasn't been a drop off,
- 13:01Speaker 1: even though he's.
- 13:02Speaker 3: And he's willing to take less in a that's going up.
- 13:05Speaker 3: What what I have a new segment for us? Wait
- 13:09Speaker 3: what that's our segment?
- 13:12Speaker 2: Wait what? No? Wait? Wait what?
- 13:15Speaker 1: Like?
- 13:15Speaker 3: Hey, hey, Dreie, His agent goes, we'll take less What
- 13:20Speaker 3: do you mean we'll okay, we'll take less term and
- 13:23Speaker 3: less money. No, we gotta trade you because I sent
- 13:25Speaker 3: the letter out, so I gotta do it.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I gotta do it.
- 13:28Speaker 3: They probably called him and said, hey, don't send the letter, Dres.
- 13:31Speaker 3: We want him to stay for two years eleven million.
- 13:33Speaker 3: He's like, no, I sent the letter. I got a deal.
- 13:36Speaker 4: You.
- 13:37Speaker 1: It's it's not enough for Ellie to win a series.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But they do get better and tell you think the
- 13:41Speaker 1: Kings are going to do some more moves here. They
- 13:42Speaker 1: realize their team needs improvement.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 5: My guess is this is the start of kind of
- 13:48Speaker 5: a reconstruction. I think Kenny Hollins ready to put his
- 13:52Speaker 5: imprint on this team, get ready for a new coach
- 13:57Speaker 5: probably next season. I would guess unless this goes on,
- 14:00Speaker 5: unless this team goes on a run, I think there
- 14:02Speaker 5: was going to be a coaching change this summer.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I think this is the first of several steps.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Once Kope retires, they don't really you know, Quentin Byfield
- 14:12Speaker 5: becomes their number one center, and then after that, you know, he's.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Been so it's been disappointing sider, how high picked.
- 14:18Speaker 2: So Kluzmenko is on the trade block now tell yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 5: I mean yeah, I think there's a lot of guys
- 14:25Speaker 5: available right now.
- 14:26Speaker 2: That's my guess. I think Kenny Holland wants to your
- 14:30Speaker 2: boots on the ground.
- 14:31Speaker 5: It's not a really it's it's it's you know, it's
- 14:33Speaker 5: not a rebuild, but he wants to change the look
- 14:35Speaker 5: of the team and make it probably a little more exciting.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I hope.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Yeah, they're they're in trouble. You get douty. That's not
- 14:41Speaker 3: getting any younger.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but Mike Blanston's emerged. I mean, you know, Buyfield.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I think they thought would have taken that extra extra step,
- 14:49Speaker 3: but he never I don't know, but.
- 14:52Speaker 2: He's as tough. This is tough.
- 14:54Speaker 1: This other story, which uh was not expecting, Kevin McKenna
- 14:58Speaker 1: who is getting into a fight but charged with felony
- 15:01Speaker 1: assault that's right, made assault by State College penn in
- 15:05Speaker 1: Pennsylvania police basically, he was charged of misdemeter simple assault
- 15:10Speaker 1: and two summary offenses for disorderly conduct and harassment. And
- 15:13Speaker 1: apparently what happened is he broke the jaw of a
- 15:17Speaker 1: kid who was chirping him after he was asked to
- 15:19Speaker 1: leave Doggies Pub Saturday night. And what was this guy
- 15:22Speaker 1: barking about? He talks shit about his guy's mother. No,
- 15:26Speaker 1: he talks back with Gavin McKenna's mother, because what did
- 15:29Speaker 1: you say about my mother? And wayam The eighteen year
- 15:32Speaker 1: old native of white Horse, Yukon, got his money's worth
- 15:34Speaker 1: twenty four games this season at Penn State. He's had
- 15:36Speaker 1: eleven goals in twenty one assists. He hasn't exactly lit
- 15:39Speaker 1: it up on fire. But JD new faund respect for McKenna.
- 15:43Speaker 1: You talked shit about mamma. You're going down?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Oh then boys from Yukon and I went in any call?
- 15:50Speaker 3: Uh yeah, he should go first overall, first plus overall
- 15:55Speaker 3: for this.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I mean, if you talk about my mother like that,
- 15:58Speaker 2: you call my mother a whore? This is what I heard.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I know, if he called her a whore. But if
- 16:01Speaker 1: that's alleged, I.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Mean, if he's if he's hassling I mean, I'm.
- 16:05Speaker 1: What else would you be saying with a guy's mother.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I'm going up.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Listen, I'm going in for more than assault battery. Let's
- 16:10Speaker 3: just let's just leave it at that, like it's more
- 16:12Speaker 3: than a se if you're if you're heckling my mother,
- 16:15Speaker 3: assault batteries, at least to your worries. Just said, it's
- 16:19Speaker 3: at least to your worries. Yeah, not just me, the
- 16:21Speaker 3: Demers family we're coming. So McKenna respect. If this is true. Now,
- 16:25Speaker 3: I'm gonna because that we don't need a defamation laws
- 16:28Speaker 3: to do.
- 16:28Speaker 2: If this is.
- 16:29Speaker 3: True, YEA, good for Gavin McKenna. I take that suspension,
- 16:33Speaker 3: whatever it is, take that felony charge, pay attation. Well, hey,
- 16:39Speaker 3: us said unscripted, we'll pay that fine.
- 16:41Speaker 1: What No, we're not. We don't have that kind of money.
- 16:43Speaker 2: We will.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't endorse violence.
- 16:47Speaker 2: We do we have our coffers are full, they're full.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Maybe Nate Thompson coming to board. I guess I'm not
- 16:53Speaker 1: sure about.
- 16:54Speaker 2: We're full coffers right now.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but what if Gab McKenna's agent, JD System. Listen, man,
- 16:59Speaker 1: people are gonna talk shit about your whole life. You've
- 17:01Speaker 1: got to have more self restraint. Now, your mother is
- 17:03Speaker 1: just the beginning. This is just people are going to
- 17:05Speaker 1: talk shit about your family the rest of your life.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And if Connor mcdad, here's the Sidney krowt do show.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Walk the other way. This is a learning lesson. You
- 17:11Speaker 1: got to walk the other way.
- 17:13Speaker 3: If you're gonna post something on social media about somebody's mom,
- 17:16Speaker 3: X y z okay, I see it. But if you're
- 17:18Speaker 3: in person and you are willing to put that out
- 17:21Speaker 3: there as a human being to somebody, you're willing to
- 17:24Speaker 3: get your teeth knocked into. That's just the way I
- 17:26Speaker 3: was raised. As raised. I live on the other side
- 17:28Speaker 3: of the train tracks. Boys live next to the airport.
- 17:33Speaker 2: If if you.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Want to put it online, okay, x y z okay,
- 17:38Speaker 3: you're you're scared to do it? Yeah, look the other way.
- 17:40Speaker 3: It's cyber you know it's online. Don't worry about it.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Put the phone away. But if you're in front of me,
- 17:44Speaker 3: you're face to face, If you're in the grain and
- 17:47Speaker 3: you're within arms like and you're gonna you're willing to
- 17:49Speaker 3: say that ship. I mean kudos to the guy who
- 17:52Speaker 3: said it, but you're getting your teeth knocked in.
- 17:55Speaker 2: You're eating out of a straw.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Tell how do you see it?
- 18:02Speaker 2: I'm serious to her, Like, if I this kid, come on.
- 18:07Speaker 5: I first like to just mention that we at NHL
- 18:09Speaker 5: unscripted do not endorse violence in any way.
- 18:13Speaker 1: However, I will tell you what you know.
- 18:15Speaker 5: It happened right after the outdoor game too, Like literally
- 18:18Speaker 5: the whole weekend was about Gavin McKenna. Like the only
- 18:21Speaker 5: reason this outdoor game happened at Penn State was because
- 18:25Speaker 5: Gavin mckenn is there. Like the chick Lits guys were there,
- 18:27Speaker 5: like it was a big event and it's McKenna's weekend.
- 18:30Speaker 5: And then he's in a I don't know if it
- 18:32Speaker 5: was a bar or restaurant or what, but he's like
- 18:34Speaker 5: surrounded by people and this guy apparently allegedly is yelling
- 18:38Speaker 5: at his mom, you know, and calling her name entourage.
- 18:41Speaker 2: What's his entourage?
- 18:42Speaker 1: Well, that's said. It's on those guys, got if.
- 18:46Speaker 5: I'm just saying, I'm sure if that's what happened, I'm
- 18:49Speaker 5: sure he felt a lot of pressure to do something
- 18:51Speaker 5: while all these people are looking at him on his weekend,
- 18:54Speaker 5: and this drunken dufist is trying to you know, punch up,
- 18:59Speaker 5: you know pressure gas.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I mean, no one's ever gonna say I mean they
- 19:04Speaker 1: broke the couch jaw. I mean with that like one
- 19:06Speaker 1: bunches way.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I'm like, that's some preppy kid. Gavin, give me a call.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I'll run security for you full time, and I'll take
- 19:15Speaker 3: less than what I'm making here at unscripted. It'll be
- 19:18Speaker 3: cheap for you.
- 19:18Speaker 1: No, you can't do that. You need the money.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I'll think more. I need the money. I need the
- 19:22Speaker 2: money I need.
- 19:24Speaker 1: We'll see, gonna be more details ahead.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah, but again we preface is if this is true. Again,
- 19:30Speaker 3: it could be completely unbiased and this is not true.
- 19:33Speaker 3: But listen, Reddit usually usually.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Right, pretty reliable spot when it comes to Reddit. Good
- 19:41Speaker 1: luck to Gavin McKenna. Will see how this impacts his
- 19:43Speaker 1: draft status moving forward. In the meantime, the Stadium series
- 19:46Speaker 1: a lot to discuss your I mean, Winter Classic STAMS
- 19:48Speaker 1: was obviously you were there previously as far as Miami
- 19:51Speaker 1: was concerned. Now Tampa, I mean, we're going even one better.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Return of Lightning Captain Victor Headman Brandon Hagel scores eleven
- 19:57Speaker 1: seconds into the game, fastest goal ever to start an
- 19:59Speaker 1: outdoor game and the goalie fight, which normally you laugh
- 20:02Speaker 1: about it say it's like a sideshow, but it seemed
- 20:04Speaker 1: to earned the game around for the second time in
- 20:05Speaker 1: two weeks. A couple of goalis go at it as
- 20:08Speaker 1: Vassilevski and Swiman dropped their gloves at helmets. Swaman. By
- 20:11Speaker 1: the way, I havm to just scart a teammate stick
- 20:12Speaker 1: that got stuck in the pat's almost gonna be a disaster.
- 20:14Speaker 1: This is after Oliver byork Strands scored for Tampa to
- 20:17Speaker 1: cut the Bruins league to five two. They come back
- 20:19Speaker 1: my five to one deficit. We'll get to John Cooper's
- 20:22Speaker 1: outfit in just a second and the rest of the clothing.
- 20:24Speaker 1: But a hell of a game, JD. I mean, greatest
- 20:26Speaker 1: comeback ever. The Lightning prove they're the best team in
- 20:28Speaker 1: the Eastern Conference.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the best outdoor game I've seen, and
- 20:33Speaker 3: I think it was kind of a consensus. So once again,
- 20:36Speaker 3: Florida establishing themselves at the state of hockey.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Right, So we're gonna get Corey back on here. Let
- 20:41Speaker 1: him know I've now been to the State of Hockey.
- 20:42Speaker 1: The new state of Hockey is Florida.
- 20:44Speaker 3: I know I mean, what I didn't know Vassilevski is
- 20:47Speaker 3: a sneaky little lefty.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yes, it just on.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Cork and lefts right there that Swimon was begging for
- 20:53Speaker 3: her right. But you know, it's so funny you watch
- 20:55Speaker 3: hockey and I was listening to the PK Suban work
- 20:59Speaker 3: his way through an interview with Tim McGraw, and uh,
- 21:02Speaker 3: Tim McGraw just saying, like, how much you know? He's like,
- 21:04Speaker 3: I don't even know the rules that much, but I
- 21:06Speaker 3: love when I watch these guys fight and they're laughing,
- 21:09Speaker 3: helping each other up and like shaking hands.
- 21:11Speaker 2: He's like that. You don't see that in any sports. So,
- 21:14Speaker 2: you know, another great moment.
- 21:15Speaker 3: For us as a hockey you know, as a hockey culture.
- 21:20Speaker 3: And I think, you know, I saw an interesting tweet
- 21:22Speaker 3: about the timing of that game in February when it's
- 21:25Speaker 3: a little bit there's a lull in the schedule for
- 21:27Speaker 3: all the other sports, and I think it's true, like
- 21:30Speaker 3: we should start reevaluating, like we should kind of probably
- 21:32Speaker 3: kick the January one, you know, the New Year Winter Classic.
- 21:36Speaker 3: We should maybe do our games in February, like two
- 21:39Speaker 3: outdoor games in February, because the viewership is off the charts,
- 21:43Speaker 3: and you know, we'll get the funny part about it.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Was like it's Gasparilla, so everybody's you know, they're they're
- 21:50Speaker 3: leaning into the festival. I was like, they couldn't have
- 21:51Speaker 3: got better actors to read those armyties before.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Like it was hilarious. It's like these old guys are
- 21:57Speaker 2: in like.
- 21:57Speaker 3: A Facebook group that are just walking around in pirate,
- 22:00Speaker 3: pirate garb year round.
- 22:02Speaker 2: It was hilarious. They're on the eye.
- 22:03Speaker 3: They couldn't wait to get on the ice after the
- 22:05Speaker 3: win with their with their pirate booty. But uh yeah,
- 22:09Speaker 3: great comeback. I mean Boston in terms of the game,
- 22:12Speaker 3: Boston just shot themselves in the foot with penalties and they.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Just got it. You know.
- 22:17Speaker 3: The Reps kind of took control a little bit too much.
- 22:20Speaker 3: I I thought that the game at a good pace
- 22:22Speaker 3: to it, and it was it was dirty and it
- 22:24Speaker 3: was great and it was like a playoff hockey game
- 22:26Speaker 3: and I would have liked to see a little bit more,
- 22:29Speaker 3: you know, leeway. But yeah, they could not help themselves.
- 22:33Speaker 2: The Bruins.
- 22:33Speaker 3: They fucking put themselves in a t pole and that's
- 22:36Speaker 3: the only bugaboo with this team. Like I think they're
- 22:38Speaker 3: going to make the playoffs. But you know, and I
- 22:41Speaker 3: think they're a dangerous team come playoff time. But they
- 22:44Speaker 3: just they if they can figure out how toll that
- 22:46Speaker 3: line of physicality because they are dirty and they play hard.
- 22:49Speaker 3: If they can tow that line, they're going to be
- 22:50Speaker 3: a hard out. So but I got you know, it
- 22:53Speaker 3: was five to one, and I tweeted, I was like, tweeted.
- 22:56Speaker 3: I think I tweeted a picture of John Cooper's outfit
- 22:59Speaker 3: that owed to eboorr and and and uh I think
- 23:02Speaker 3: it was what it was the Cuban Cuban stuff there,
- 23:05Speaker 3: But anyway, I was like, how can you they like
- 23:08Speaker 3: panned do a mos five to one and he's like
- 23:10Speaker 3: trying to talk to the referees. I'm like, how do
- 23:13Speaker 3: you in that outfit going into the room and be like,
- 23:15Speaker 3: come on, boys, wake the fuck up right and it's
- 23:17Speaker 3: like he's just sitting there at that sideway. He's hat
- 23:18Speaker 3: and a cigar. I'm like, And they ended up coming
- 23:21Speaker 3: back because he's a winner. Guys, the Jack Adams given
- 23:23Speaker 3: to him now the best agreed.
- 23:26Speaker 1: How can you take this guy seriously with that kind
- 23:27Speaker 1: of get up? But they did good point by tal
- 23:30Speaker 1: you mentioned the ratings. It did help. I mean I
- 23:31Speaker 1: was looking around going what is it to watch on TV?
- 23:33Speaker 1: Because there's no NFL games on? So the week before
- 23:35Speaker 1: Super Bowl, no NFL games did help out watch the
- 23:38Speaker 1: Little Lakers Nicks as well Lebron's potentially last game there
- 23:40Speaker 1: at the Garden. But that also helps entires of time
- 23:43Speaker 1: because February is traditionally a very slow sports month. H
- 23:46Speaker 1: you mentioned Coop, I mean, just amazing paying tribute to
- 23:48Speaker 1: Tony Montana, the camera door and the cigar, also the
- 23:52Speaker 1: box at the Queen School for this, Yeah.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Go ahead, is your camera right?
- 23:56Speaker 1: Oh, you're right, but camera went down but it's okay,
- 23:58Speaker 1: Well we'll fix it. Well we'll fix it in post
- 24:01Speaker 1: tal also messaging me your camera fell over, doesn't matter,
- 24:03Speaker 1: we don't want to any only have one clip anyways,
- 24:05Speaker 1: this clip's not gonna be used. Buccaneers classic cream school uniforms,
- 24:08Speaker 1: the Bruins paying tribute to the American colonial patriots, and
- 24:11Speaker 1: of course Coop just style in general. J D. I mean, listen,
- 24:14Speaker 1: you're a guy with flair. I'm sure if you were
- 24:16Speaker 1: involved there you would want to lean into it. I'm
- 24:18Speaker 1: glad that guys should show their personality and have fun.
- 24:20Speaker 1: This is an event, right.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Heah, you got to lean into the theatrics of it.
- 24:24Speaker 3: And I don't know, was it Tony Monte. I thought
- 24:27Speaker 3: it was an ode to like.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I think it's a Cuban culture.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Yeah, ebore, Yeah, like the I think what was the
- 24:36Speaker 3: what was the movie with You'll Know This with Ben Affleck.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Live by Night?
- 24:41Speaker 3: I think it was like more of an ode to
- 24:43Speaker 3: that style of Floridian.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Great book by the way, Dennis Lhane wrote the book
- 24:48Speaker 1: and then afflect of the movie, which was not well received.
- 24:50Speaker 2: But yeah, it was that.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it was kind of shitty one, but yeah, it
- 24:54Speaker 3: was kind of it was. It was kind of that
- 24:55Speaker 3: so I think but everybody. I think he confused a
- 24:58Speaker 3: lot of people. But I mean, what I that that
- 25:01Speaker 3: guy just oozes sex for any coop?
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah, the coope? Just whose is it? Just he's got
- 25:09Speaker 2: a big dick and he swings it.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I'm not sure if want to go that far, but
- 25:13Speaker 1: he's definitely he's definitely cares about I mean, I just
- 25:17Speaker 1: love the idea of the cigars in the bench. Tell
- 25:19Speaker 1: you're a fan of that as well. Love it.
- 25:22Speaker 5: I was going to compare it to Cuban Pete from
- 25:24Speaker 5: the Mask if you remember Jim Carrey in the Mask
- 25:27Speaker 5: with the big yellow deep cut.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I love it.
- 25:32Speaker 5: I definitely think we need more coaches chomping on cigars
- 25:36Speaker 5: on the bench. I think that's a trend I would
- 25:38Speaker 5: absolutely like to encourage.
- 25:41Speaker 1: But just great to see the creativity.
- 25:42Speaker 5: I think this was kind of a bit of a
- 25:44Speaker 5: novelty for a little while, and now it's if you're
- 25:46Speaker 5: hosting or even involved in an outdoor game, you better
- 25:49Speaker 5: you better contact a costume design or something, because your
- 25:52Speaker 5: entrance better be pretty creative. You know, the bar has
- 25:55Speaker 5: been set pretty high clearly by this game.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Because if you look back at the Rangers Panthers, to
- 26:01Speaker 3: Tell's point, I mean, it's awful compared to these guys. Yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 3: Like that's hilarious watching Russian Russian guys that are off
- 26:09Speaker 3: come out in the Boston colonial.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Of what the deep part, where the fuck it was?
- 26:15Speaker 2: And he's sitting there coming up that thing with Rusky.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Like he knows or cares what it's all about. But
- 26:22Speaker 1: I'll put the hat on. It's fine. To other hockey matters,
- 26:25Speaker 1: Trot's Out wasn't all fun. Over the weekend. His predators
- 26:27Speaker 1: general manager Barry Trots announcing he's gonna be stepping down
- 26:30Speaker 1: officially leading his post Onnesday, replacement his name. So. He
- 26:33Speaker 1: was the first head coach in Pred's history. He coached
- 26:35Speaker 1: the team's first fifteen season before he won the Stanley
- 26:38Speaker 1: Cup with Washington guy the Islanders back to back conference
- 26:41Speaker 1: finals twenty twenty and twenty twenty one. The timing a
- 26:44Speaker 1: little bit interesting. The Preds right now in a playoff
- 26:46Speaker 1: funt Stamp Coast has been unbelievable, absolutely revitalized. Why would
- 26:50Speaker 1: j D Barry Trots and make this announcement now? It
- 26:52Speaker 1: just seemed curious timing to me.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Uh, I think the you know, the GM bump is real,
- 26:59Speaker 3: But you know, I just think that I think that
- 27:02Speaker 3: he may have lost the handle. Now the Predator's team
- 27:05Speaker 3: is whether they make it or not. I think there
- 27:07Speaker 3: was a change that needed to be happened. I think
- 27:08Speaker 3: he may have lost the pulse a little bit. I've
- 27:10Speaker 3: heard nothing but great things about Barry Trotz as a
- 27:13Speaker 3: human being. I just don't know. Sometimes, you know, it
- 27:16Speaker 3: just sometimes doesn't translate. You know, being a great player
- 27:19Speaker 3: doesn't translate to being a great coach. Being a great
- 27:21Speaker 3: coach doesn't translate to be a great GM and so
- 27:24Speaker 3: on and so forth. I think there's a there's a
- 27:26Speaker 3: nuance to all of those positions, So you know, I
- 27:29Speaker 3: just think he kind of recognized this a little bit
- 27:31Speaker 3: like Rob Blake in LA. I think he was like,
- 27:32Speaker 3: this wasn't good enough. I don't think I did a
- 27:35Speaker 3: good job. I can look at myself in the mirror
- 27:37Speaker 3: and I haven't dug in deep enough on it. And
- 27:39Speaker 3: I wonder if there'll be more information when he talks,
- 27:41Speaker 3: But he just was like, you know what, it's just
- 27:44Speaker 3: not a fit. So I'm just that's it. So I think,
- 27:48Speaker 3: you know, good on him. I mean this this might
- 27:50Speaker 3: be the boost, the final boost to get them over.
- 27:52Speaker 3: But they're playing some good hockey right now Nashville.
- 27:54Speaker 2: They've kind of figured it out a little bit.
- 27:56Speaker 3: And to your point, Stamcoast, O'Reilly Josie's playing some good
- 28:00Speaker 3: hockey now and they're getting some good goaltending and that
- 28:03Speaker 3: I mean, they have themselves. Amazing comeback the other game,
- 28:07Speaker 3: like that was another historic comeback.
- 28:08Speaker 2: They were down and out come back to win it.
- 28:11Speaker 3: So they're they're firmly in it, and I'd love to
- 28:13Speaker 3: see them in the playoffs.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Uh, I think it'd be awesome. But yeah, we have
- 28:16Speaker 2: Kevin Adams.
- 28:16Speaker 3: It's that gets fired and Buffalo goes on a tear,
- 28:19Speaker 3: and maybe now is it's gonna become a new thing.
- 28:22Speaker 3: It's no longer the coaches bump, it's the GM bump.
- 28:25Speaker 3: And then finally it'll be next is the owner bump
- 28:29Speaker 3: the owner. The owner will have to get like indicted
- 28:32Speaker 3: for embezzlement or some tax evasion, and then and then.
- 28:36Speaker 2: They're gonna want to tear. The team's never gonna lose again.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Turn the two around. They weren't sure they're gonna get
- 28:40Speaker 1: their checks anymore, Like we gotta play boys, We're not
- 28:42Speaker 1: gonna get paid. It out, This has to happen. What
- 28:44Speaker 1: do you think about a Berry trot statue outside bridget
- 28:46Speaker 1: Don Arena, him and Peck Arena together.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Just a just literally a rectangle like the rectangle of
- 28:52Speaker 3: his shoulders, just a square, just standing straight, no movement,
- 28:57Speaker 3: just standing and stare Oh god, old Berry. I know
- 29:03Speaker 3: we feel for him, but you know he called his number,
- 29:05Speaker 3: I like it, saw the rating on the wall and said,
- 29:07Speaker 3: you're not going to fire me?
- 29:08Speaker 2: I quit.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say that's probably my read on
- 29:11Speaker 1: it is like, you know why I wait till the
- 29:12Speaker 1: end of the season. I'm like, well, they're gonna get
- 29:13Speaker 1: rid of me anyways, or I've just lost the room.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Like you know, I'm trying to make moves, they're not
- 29:17Speaker 1: allowing me to do it. So I'll just get out
- 29:19Speaker 1: in front of it and say, okay, it's been fun, yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 1: and we'll see what happens is.
- 29:22Speaker 3: There's so much that goes on behind that we don't
- 29:24Speaker 3: see with that love, you know, to your point, just
- 29:26Speaker 3: disagreement in terms of the direction and maybe just a
- 29:32Speaker 3: little bit too much questioning and just says, you know what,
- 29:34Speaker 3: I'm just gonna exit stage left, exactly.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Meantime drama right now. For the Philadelphia Flyers. On Christmas Day,
- 29:41Speaker 1: there was second in the Metro, just two points buying
- 29:43Speaker 1: Carolina looked fantastic. Rick Talket's hiring looking like a winning move.
- 29:46Speaker 1: The team's humming along, but since then they've had some issues.
- 29:49Speaker 1: They closed out January two eight and two runs. Secrets
- 29:52Speaker 1: was looking like an all star three goals in his
- 29:54Speaker 1: last fourteen games, and Matt by Mitchkov who was such
- 29:57Speaker 1: a study year ago. He was fourth and voting for
- 29:59Speaker 1: the Cauldrop. He has just thirteen goals and he's averaging
- 30:02Speaker 1: fourteen to three two ice time per game. That's down
- 30:04Speaker 1: almost more than two minutes per game from his rookie season.
- 30:06Speaker 1: They did beat the Capitals last night, which Jim Jackson
- 30:08Speaker 1: on the call said it was a must win. He's right.
- 30:10Speaker 1: They're now eight points out of a wildcard playoff spot.
- 30:13Speaker 1: There's seven points back a third place in the Metro.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But drama after what's happened with Tackett and matt Vie
- 30:18Speaker 1: mitchkov It's no secret that you can imagine Mitchkof and
- 30:21Speaker 1: Tackett wouldn't see eye to eye, but Talkett saying publicly
- 30:24Speaker 1: basically a fan fest that Meetchkoff showed up to camp
- 30:26Speaker 1: out of shape, and then Danny Breer, who is the
- 30:29Speaker 1: GM of the teams, that Meechcov's not going anywhere, and
- 30:31Speaker 1: Keith Jones doubled down with that as well. Appears to
- 30:34Speaker 1: be some drama here in Philadelphia, which is not surprising.
- 30:36Speaker 1: And I can't imagine meetch COV's going anywhere because it
- 30:39Speaker 1: took a lot of effort for them to come to America,
- 30:41Speaker 1: obviously from Russia. The didn't think they'd get him Jada
- 30:43Speaker 1: til next season, So Breer obviously to work a lot
- 30:45Speaker 1: of wonders to get him here, and again some growing
- 30:48Speaker 1: pains with talk it, but surprised that talks at it publicly.
- 30:52Speaker 1: And I'm not to say it's not gonna end well,
- 30:55Speaker 1: but I mean clearly there's tension right now between a
- 30:57Speaker 1: Russian star and his head coach.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and when the fans are this involved in only
- 31:03Speaker 3: the noise only gets louder. So it's either like what's
- 31:06Speaker 3: going to break first? Like is Taka going to start
- 31:08Speaker 3: playing him or you know, maybe two three more minutes
- 31:13Speaker 3: or is the is it just he's going to double
- 31:15Speaker 3: down and keep his minutes the same? Because listen, Mitchkov's
- 31:19Speaker 3: a great player. But I don't think Mitchrokov's going to change, right.
- 31:22Speaker 3: I think the whole point of Mitchkov is you kind
- 31:25Speaker 3: of kind of let him run a little bit. You
- 31:26Speaker 3: got to put some sort of leash on him. But
- 31:29Speaker 3: a player of that caliber, you can't tell him to
- 31:31Speaker 3: play north south hockey. He needs to play a little
- 31:33Speaker 3: bit east west. He needs to he needs to not
- 31:37Speaker 3: dump punks pucks all the time. He needs to hold
- 31:39Speaker 3: on to it. Maybe make a player too, maybe make
- 31:41Speaker 3: some turnovers, but you have to allow him to free
- 31:44Speaker 3: wheel a little bit. So and I think Tortorella did
- 31:47Speaker 3: a good job of that. I think Talks tried to
- 31:49Speaker 3: teach him. It hasn't worked. And then you know, I'm
- 31:53Speaker 3: am I a fan of the didn't come to camp
- 31:56Speaker 3: in shape. We're forty nine games in or what we're
- 31:59Speaker 3: over that we're fifty o fifty seven games into the season. Sorry,
- 32:03Speaker 3: fifty five Jesus, get it together, Jay, we're fifty five
- 32:05Speaker 3: games in the season. Like to say that, to be
- 32:08Speaker 3: bringing that up that you're still not playing somebody because
- 32:11Speaker 3: they weren't they didn't come to camp in shape, it's
- 32:14Speaker 3: a little bit I don't know. I feel like that's
- 32:17Speaker 3: it's a little bit cheap. It's unnecessary, Like, yeah, say
- 32:20Speaker 3: to camp, great, he didn't come to camp and shape.
- 32:22Speaker 2: He's got his play his way into shape.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Great, fifty five games in, it's like that's a you problem,
- 32:27Speaker 3: and that's.
- 32:27Speaker 2: A he shouldn't be playing.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Then if you think he's still not in shape, and
- 32:31Speaker 3: then you also your training staff needs to get him
- 32:35Speaker 3: in shape, which again, and it's a tough job to
- 32:37Speaker 3: make somebody go in the gym that's playing in the NHL.
- 32:39Speaker 3: But like to sit there and be like he didn't
- 32:41Speaker 3: come to camp and shape and say, well that's done.
- 32:43Speaker 3: You like, he's either not good enough to play big
- 32:45Speaker 3: minutes or he is. And it's like either have that conversation,
- 32:50Speaker 3: but don't use something that it's like you have that
- 32:52Speaker 3: bullet wants to use, you used it, kind of throw
- 32:56Speaker 3: it away and I just think that, you know, that's
- 33:00Speaker 3: just something that's like a point of contention sometimes that
- 33:02Speaker 3: coaches and I'm not just saying, but a lot they'll
- 33:05Speaker 3: they latch onto one thing and you kind of can't
- 33:08Speaker 3: get them out of it. So it's like it's one
- 33:10Speaker 3: of those what's going to break first? And I'm sure
- 33:12Speaker 3: I don't know if they've had conversations. I know there's
- 33:14Speaker 3: a little bit of a language bearer, so it's even
- 33:16Speaker 3: more difficult. But these Russian guys like a mich Cough
- 33:19Speaker 3: like he'll leave, like he'll just be like, I'm gone
- 33:22Speaker 3: see you kiss my ass if he's not going to play.
- 33:25Speaker 2: But you know, this this Fire's team.
- 33:27Speaker 3: I think they probably played above expectations to start the season.
- 33:34Speaker 3: They were getting great goaltending. I think they weren't as
- 33:37Speaker 3: good structurally as anybody thought. I think they were giving
- 33:40Speaker 3: up way too many scoring chances, and then now they're
- 33:42Speaker 3: not getting the goaltending and you're starting to see they're
- 33:44Speaker 3: just leaking a little bit of oil. So for them,
- 33:46Speaker 3: it's how can they kind of write the ship. They're
- 33:48Speaker 3: gonna need Meetchkov to be a big part of it.
- 33:50Speaker 3: But yeah, I just think that kind of noise from
- 33:53Speaker 3: the fan base. And I was on Twitter at Comb
- 33:55Speaker 3: on Twitter, and maybe it's just my algorithm now, but
- 33:58Speaker 3: fucking people, these fans are coming with pitchforks for him
- 34:01Speaker 3: right now, like they want Tacket's head anywhere.
- 34:05Speaker 1: You're one of a five year deal, so he's a
- 34:06Speaker 1: for your deal.
- 34:07Speaker 2: I was like, I'm like, Jesus, where you want him gone?
- 34:09Speaker 6: Now?
- 34:10Speaker 3: Yeah, that's how rich do you think the GM is
- 34:12Speaker 3: you're going to bring in place? Brier is gonna come
- 34:15Speaker 3: down and then get behind the bench coaching or you know,
- 34:19Speaker 3: Keith Jones. But it's not a good look. It really isn't.
- 34:21Speaker 3: And if they don't make the playoffs, it's gonna get louder.
- 34:24Speaker 3: So this is a This is an interesting, interesting moment
- 34:27Speaker 3: to see where this team goes, and if they kind
- 34:29Speaker 3: of back, you know, if they start playing for talking
- 34:32Speaker 3: in themselves, or if they kind of just you know,
- 34:35Speaker 3: fall out of the playoff phrase completely. If buy him out,
- 34:37Speaker 3: I don't have him making the playoffs.
- 34:39Speaker 1: So yeah, it's gonna be a challenge right now. They're
- 34:41Speaker 1: gona have to catch the Islanders. I mean there's a
- 34:43Speaker 1: big Eastern Conference tween last night in regulation against the Capitals,
- 34:46Speaker 1: who they trail. Also Columbuses in that mix sout. There's
- 34:48Speaker 1: obviously some work to do there. Fladar has been sensational,
- 34:51Speaker 1: great pick up there by David Brier, but Airson's been awful.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I mean he's got to eight sixty percent, so he's
- 34:56Speaker 1: been a huge disappointment. Basic gate goes from Ladar is
- 34:59Speaker 1: really good. And then if Aerson's playing like good luck
- 35:01Speaker 1: and defensively, as you said, been leaky. I think ultimately
- 35:05Speaker 1: I think Takt plays meach cop more. I think he's
- 35:06Speaker 1: like all right, fine, like Brier and Jones and you
- 35:08Speaker 1: guys want him final, we'll plan more. But if you know,
- 35:10Speaker 1: he gets exposed, that's on you, guys, because ultimately he
- 35:13Speaker 1: is a player that do believe that there's going to
- 35:15Speaker 1: be a key fixture for them for time to come.
- 35:18Speaker 1: In the meantime, the champs are down but not quite out.
- 35:21Speaker 1: The whole thought is of the Panthers. Once they get
- 35:23Speaker 1: their stars back, they'll be okay, just tread water. But
- 35:26Speaker 1: now you're starting to get a little concerned entering play Wednesday,
- 35:28Speaker 1: the two time defending champions three and five, since Matthew
- 35:31Speaker 1: could Shuck return to the lineup and Sam Bennett, who
- 35:34Speaker 1: was left off Team Canada left with an injury during
- 35:36Speaker 1: the team's lost money to Buffalo. Now he's okay because
- 35:40Speaker 1: he'll replace Anthey Strilia and Canada's roster for the Olympics.
- 35:43Speaker 1: But with the Olympic break about to start right now,
- 35:46Speaker 1: this Florida Panthers team sits last in the Atlantic Division.
- 35:50Speaker 1: You and I have said before, like you gotta be
- 35:52Speaker 1: within six to eight points come break time. How do
- 35:54Speaker 1: you see this playing out? I think it's a coin
- 35:56Speaker 1: flip fifty to fifty. Maybe it's less than that, maybe
- 35:58Speaker 1: it's forty sixty. The Panthers make the playoffs.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Yeah, too many injuries the key players. I just think
- 36:03Speaker 3: it's I think it's gonna be tough. But Barofsky's not
- 36:06Speaker 3: playing the way he should. I mean, he blew that
- 36:08Speaker 3: one last game for them coming out of the net.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Uh.
- 36:12Speaker 3: I just yeah, I just don't know. I was high
- 36:14Speaker 3: on them. I I kind of have the East like
- 36:17Speaker 3: a lot. I have a lot of teams that have
- 36:19Speaker 3: fallen out recently, you know, I think I think Philly, Florida,
- 36:23Speaker 3: New Jersey Rangers are out, uh and Ottawa's kind of
- 36:27Speaker 3: on that cusp fighting for it because to your point,
- 36:30Speaker 3: like it's tough to jump this many teams they got
- 36:33Speaker 3: to jump six, but six teams they have five teams
- 36:36Speaker 3: just to get to that's a lot of teams to
- 36:39Speaker 3: jump that are getting loser points. And we can talk
- 36:41Speaker 3: about the standings in a little bit of how I
- 36:44Speaker 3: feel it's never been more apparent than this year. How
- 36:47Speaker 3: that you know, the two to one one point system
- 36:50Speaker 3: just I don't know. I think there needs to really
- 36:52Speaker 3: be looked at for a change because a lot of
- 36:54Speaker 3: teams have hung around that shouldn't hung around, that should
- 36:57Speaker 3: have shouldn't have hung around. But yeah, for Florida, man,
- 37:01Speaker 3: I just think it's too finally, too much hockey. We've
- 37:03Speaker 3: been asking that question, when is too much hockey for
- 37:06Speaker 3: the Florida Panthers and we want to think it's never
- 37:08Speaker 3: in these guys, but you can just see and they're
- 37:11Speaker 3: going to the Olympics, Like they got a lot of
- 37:12Speaker 3: guys going to the Olympics right now, Like that's that's
- 37:15Speaker 3: not good for a lot of your key players like
- 37:18Speaker 3: Loster Ryan and Londell. Bennett's gonna replace now you have
- 37:23Speaker 3: Ko Chuck, you have you know Jones isn't. But you
- 37:27Speaker 3: look at those are some key players that are going
- 37:29Speaker 3: over there. And I probably missed a couple of guys,
- 37:31Speaker 3: but some key players that are going over there. So
- 37:34Speaker 3: Ubus Bolinskis is going there too. So it's like, I
- 37:37Speaker 3: just don't think they're gonna have enough juice to get
- 37:39Speaker 3: over the finish line this year, unless Barkoff comes back
- 37:43Speaker 3: right after the Olympics and shocks the world and drags
- 37:47Speaker 3: them into a playoff spot.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I just don't know right now.
- 37:50Speaker 1: The Atlantic, in the East, it's Tampa Bay, Detroit and Buffalo,
- 37:53Speaker 1: Metropolitan's Carolina, Pittsburgh and the Islanders. Your wildcards are the
- 37:57Speaker 1: Habs and the Bruins. And then there is finally some separation.
- 38:00Speaker 1: It's been so tight and so congestion, but that is
- 38:02Speaker 1: actually a five point edge between and Columbus. So Florida
- 38:06Speaker 1: have to catch Philly, Ottawa, Washington, Toronto, Columbus and then
- 38:09Speaker 1: the Ruins to get that playoffs. But you start to
- 38:12Speaker 1: see yourself, well, which team's gonna be the one out
- 38:13Speaker 1: either Boston, Montreal, potentially Buffalo doesn't like that they're slowing down,
- 38:17Speaker 1: so it's it's definitely gonna be a challenge. All right,
- 38:19Speaker 1: Good news is our man j D will be at
- 38:21Speaker 1: the Olympics. He's gonna be sending US coverage. God willing.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Bob Bender concerned about the Wi Fi, JD confident in
- 38:27Speaker 1: its riverside. Go ahead, listen. That was Bender's conservatives the
- 38:30Speaker 1: Wi Fi. Are you concerned about the Wi Fi in Italy?
- 38:33Speaker 1: I think isn't there starlink around and everything? I think
- 38:35Speaker 1: it's fined if I can record something off my phone
- 38:38Speaker 1: and send it. At this point, we're twenty twenty six folks.
- 38:41Speaker 2: He build it.
- 38:43Speaker 3: They're building semiconductor plants and TSMC's and Navidia, and they
- 38:46Speaker 3: liquid coolant and they're mining for copper.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Come on, now, I'm just saying. Bob is saying at
- 38:51Speaker 1: previous Olympics there's been an issue with Wi Fi. So
- 38:53Speaker 1: that's that's where he's coming from. I don't know how
- 38:54Speaker 1: much it's improved.
- 38:56Speaker 3: You'll find it, all right, I'll find it for you, guys.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Don't worry fans at home.
- 39:00Speaker 1: I'll be back at the very least you We're gonna
- 39:02Speaker 1: be a record in Riverside. Send this down some stuff,
- 39:04Speaker 1: but this is gonna be a really fun tournament. Obviously,
- 39:06Speaker 1: we're all rooting for Canada. Hopefully we dominate, not only
- 39:09Speaker 1: in the men's hockey, but obviously in the ternament overall.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I'm just always more of a Winter Olympics guy than
- 39:12Speaker 1: a Summer Olympics guy, mainly because I'm a Canadian. People like,
- 39:15Speaker 1: what do you mean? I go, well, I don't really
- 39:16Speaker 1: give a crap about swimming or track, uh and gymnastics.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I couldn't collless. I'd rather just watch baseball in the
- 39:21Speaker 1: regular season. But right now I'm like, yeah, I will definitely.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I love ski jumping. I think that's phenomenal. I'm obviously
- 39:26Speaker 1: gonna watch hockey again. Being Canadian, grew up with Brian Orzer,
- 39:30Speaker 1: you know, Liz Manly, Kirk Browning, Elvis Stoiko. So I
- 39:33Speaker 1: love the figure skating. Oh I love the figures. Yeah, really, like, dude,
- 39:36Speaker 1: I love yeah, because Canada's good at it. I'm into it.
- 39:39Speaker 2: And then today Elvis Stoko, Oh my god.
- 39:42Speaker 1: And then the freestyle stuff gets crazy, and like you know,
- 39:45Speaker 1: there's just a lot of like just weird. Like listen, oh,
- 39:47Speaker 1: Bob's a little lusion of Tuesday Afternoon. I'm not saying
- 39:49Speaker 1: not to that. So listen, You're gonna do an awesome
- 39:51Speaker 1: job as always covering the Olympics for us, but I'm excited.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I hope you get to watch some of the other
- 39:56Speaker 1: events as well, really get to take it all in.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, well, we're gonna have what I get
- 40:00Speaker 3: there in the eighth and I have probably three four
- 40:02Speaker 3: days before, so I think the first hockey game, so
- 40:05Speaker 3: I might go see some practices and then try to
- 40:08Speaker 3: run and see something. I don't know how it's spread out,
- 40:10Speaker 3: but they have us kind of a little bit outside
- 40:12Speaker 3: the city. I have to get my bearings when I
- 40:14Speaker 3: get there and take the train and buzz around or.
- 40:17Speaker 2: A couple of cabs. I think they got Uber there too.
- 40:20Speaker 1: But listen, you're a big Italy guy. You and Joe
- 40:22Speaker 1: went there for your honeymoon this summer, so.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Well pasta f a little cafe in the afternoon Appartibo
- 40:29Speaker 3: before dinner.
- 40:31Speaker 1: As you as you know, you don't say you don't
- 40:33Speaker 1: say I have an espresso of a coffee, just say
- 40:34Speaker 1: a cafe, because that is an espresso.
- 40:36Speaker 3: That is coffee cafe, correct, And I get you an
- 40:40Speaker 3: espression locking ready to go.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I mean you but the level of excitement between the
- 40:43Speaker 1: food and just the general ambyance, the atmosphere and the hockey,
- 40:47Speaker 1: like it's this is a trip of which what's in
- 40:48Speaker 1: a lifetime for you.
- 40:50Speaker 3: I mean I went to the Olympics, I played in it,
- 40:52Speaker 3: so you know, no big deal. The hair, you know,
- 40:55Speaker 3: this will be this will be a this will be
- 40:57Speaker 3: a second place.
- 40:58Speaker 2: You know.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Now I'm gonna enjoy it. It's gonna be I'm very
- 41:01Speaker 3: grateful to go. And I mean, you know, I kind
- 41:03Speaker 3: of want to go to work as well, and like
- 41:06Speaker 3: you know, it'd be fun to kind of cover some
- 41:08Speaker 3: stuff and do some fun content.
- 41:09Speaker 2: So yeah, trying to figure out that. Going with Jamison.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Coyle and hopefully do some stuff on the ski slopes
- 41:15Speaker 3: and nice, you know, maybe go go trou on some
- 41:18Speaker 3: Italian suits, take it all dulled up, be nice.
- 41:22Speaker 1: That's great. Maddy, Well, I'd certainly make the most of it.
- 41:25Speaker 1: I know you certainly will, all right. Well, of course,
- 41:27Speaker 1: Dani will be a part of the podcast moving forward.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Coming up next, Seth Jarvis one of the elite goal
- 41:31Speaker 1: scorers right now in the game. He's gonna joy us
- 41:33Speaker 1: talking about what's been an exciting season for the Carolina Hurricanes,
- 41:36Speaker 1: why it feels this year will be different from the past,
- 41:38Speaker 1: what he's heard from Team Canada, all that more coming
- 41:41Speaker 1: up after this. Our special guest was drafted thirteenth ough
- 41:56Speaker 1: Broadway the Carolina Hurricanes and the twenty twenty NHL Draft.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Since then, he has turned into one of those consistent
- 42:02Speaker 1: goal scorers in the NHL. He's on the of his
- 42:05Speaker 1: third straight thirty goal season, a key piece for Hurricanes
- 42:08Speaker 1: team that has been a picture of consistency for years.
- 42:11Speaker 1: It is the man himself, Seth Jarvis. Seth, you're joining
- 42:13Speaker 1: us right now on Groundhonk Day. You turned twenty four yesterday.
- 42:17Speaker 1: What were your plans for the big day?
- 42:18Speaker 2: What you do?
- 42:20Speaker 4: Nothing? I mean, I really wanted that win and so
- 42:22Speaker 4: I would ruin the rest of my days. It low
- 42:24Speaker 4: was nice and then after that just spend time with
- 42:27Speaker 4: some of the guys I have a buddy in town,
- 42:29Speaker 4: so just hung out, celebrated, and then yeah, kind of
- 42:33Speaker 4: move on.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Now, Yeah, you finished with a nice plus one, so
- 42:36Speaker 3: you're fine exactly everyone's Yeah. But I mean, talk about
- 42:40Speaker 3: how's the season going right now? I mean, you know
- 42:43Speaker 3: we mentioned you guys being the picture of consistency. I mean,
- 42:46Speaker 3: how is that year in and year out, just knowing
- 42:49Speaker 3: and putting in the work that you guys are going
- 42:52Speaker 3: to be top of the league and everybody's gonna be
- 42:53Speaker 3: chasing you.
- 42:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's exciting. I think every year we
- 42:57Speaker 4: come in with a standard if we want to be
- 42:59Speaker 4: the last team standing, and I think everyone in the
- 43:01Speaker 4: NHL does, But to be as good as we have
- 43:04Speaker 4: been in the regular season has been always nice, and
- 43:06Speaker 4: I think, like you said, you feel like you get
- 43:08Speaker 4: the every team's best game when you're playing against them,
- 43:10Speaker 4: which is always a challenge. And then just finding a
- 43:13Speaker 4: way to continue that into the playoffs and make a
- 43:15Speaker 4: deep push is kind of what we're working towards and
- 43:18Speaker 4: what we're trying to overcome right now.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Your consistency is always amazing, Steth. It doesn't matter what
- 43:22Speaker 1: the seasons, Hurricanes are always where they need to be
- 43:24Speaker 1: near the top of the Metro division. What's the outlook
- 43:27Speaker 1: for the team right now as we're heading into this
- 43:28Speaker 1: Olympic break.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Just excited. I think this year, I think, apart from
- 43:34Speaker 4: different years, we're finding different ways to win. I think
- 43:36Speaker 4: it's not always pretty. I think we're grinding some out
- 43:39Speaker 4: where we're finding ourselves and sometimes not the greatest situations,
- 43:42Speaker 4: but still pulling out wins. So I think that opposed
- 43:45Speaker 4: to previous years, has been really fun. And I think
- 43:47Speaker 4: the way our power play is going right now has
- 43:49Speaker 4: been a big spark for us, something we've lacked in
- 43:51Speaker 4: the past, So that with that role and we have
- 43:53Speaker 4: a lot of confidence right now.
- 43:55Speaker 3: What do you feel is the most important thing for
- 43:58Speaker 3: like a good power play? Because you mentioned it, you
- 44:00Speaker 3: guys are going and that's always been kind of something
- 44:02Speaker 3: that has been talked about in Carolina. Sometimes the power
- 44:05Speaker 3: play has been a little bit up and down, and
- 44:08Speaker 3: a lot of it rides on you know, you and
- 44:09Speaker 3: Svechnikov producing heavily on the goal scoring side of things.
- 44:12Speaker 3: So like, for you, what is it that makes the
- 44:14Speaker 3: power play? So is it a lot more communication or
- 44:17Speaker 3: is it just is it really more if we follow
- 44:19Speaker 3: the structure we're going to be successful.
- 44:22Speaker 4: I think a little bit of both. I think obviously
- 44:24Speaker 4: you see a lot of the best power plays in
- 44:25Speaker 4: the NHL. They've been together forever, they've played together. They
- 44:29Speaker 4: have a lot of chemistry, they know where each other
- 44:30Speaker 4: is going to be. So I think the more time
- 44:32Speaker 4: we spend together has been a lot has been a big,
- 44:35Speaker 4: big benefit sorry of a lot of our success. And
- 44:39Speaker 4: then just starting with the puck, I think we've switched
- 44:41Speaker 4: Jordo onto our kind of taking the face off in
- 44:44Speaker 4: the zone. I think when you can start with the
- 44:45Speaker 4: puck and you can run your plays like we did
- 44:48Speaker 4: last night, scored five seconds into the power play, I
- 44:50Speaker 4: think that makes a massive difference. So having him there
- 44:53Speaker 4: to win face offs, and then obviously the addition of
- 44:56Speaker 4: Eelers with that speed and skill, I mean, it's so
- 44:59Speaker 4: much fun to watch, so much fun to play with.
- 45:01Speaker 4: So he's someone that I think has been a big
- 45:03Speaker 4: boost our power play.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I was gonna say if something that happened with
- 45:07Speaker 1: a Miko Ranson and trade, you know, the team stay
- 45:09Speaker 1: busy by bringing them at better is like Eelers and
- 45:12Speaker 1: like KeAndre Miller. You mentioned Elers, what else has at
- 45:14Speaker 1: least and listen, this is Miller brought to the table.
- 45:17Speaker 4: Oh, he's been incredible. I mean, like it's I knew
- 45:20Speaker 4: playing against him, Uh, when he was on the Rangers,
- 45:22Speaker 4: I knew how good he was. But I think when
- 45:25Speaker 4: he comes here it's on another level. I think. Obviously,
- 45:29Speaker 4: the the decore we have is really good and really
- 45:31Speaker 4: high end. But the way he can just move, he
- 45:33Speaker 4: reminds me a lot of Slavel. I think just in
- 45:35Speaker 4: the length, the way he moves. Obviously he has I
- 45:39Speaker 4: don't want to knock Slavel, but he might have a
- 45:40Speaker 4: little more offensive outside the Lavo does.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Yeah you're not, He's got a lot more offense.
- 45:45Speaker 4: Yeah, but uh, I think just the way he moves,
- 45:48Speaker 4: I mean, to be that tall, that long and be
- 45:50Speaker 4: able to skate like the way he does, it reminds
- 45:52Speaker 4: me a lot of Slavel. And obviously that's a massive
- 45:54Speaker 4: confident because I think Slav is the best defensive defense
- 45:56Speaker 4: in the NHL. So if if Mills he can get
- 46:00Speaker 4: to that level, I mean it'd be incredible.
- 46:03Speaker 2: He's been a greater day.
- 46:04Speaker 3: And you know, we talk about what you guys, you
- 46:08Speaker 3: know the development of the Hurricanes, and you guys do
- 46:10Speaker 3: it a lot on defense just as much as offense.
- 46:12Speaker 3: You've had a lot of guys come in, you know,
- 46:14Speaker 3: yourself included, where you know it's younger guys and you
- 46:16Speaker 3: grow in the system and you're just so you're so
- 46:19Speaker 3: good at producing. But I wanted to talk a little
- 46:21Speaker 3: about Alexander nikkeishin the Russian Bear. This fucking guy is
- 46:25Speaker 3: is so fun to watch, and I mean it all
- 46:28Speaker 3: culminated with him just piss pumping that I think it
- 46:31Speaker 3: was that Oliver Moore in Chicago after he hit I
- 46:34Speaker 3: didn't know he I didn't know he was that tough.
- 46:35Speaker 3: You never know what The Russians are so sneaky. What
- 46:38Speaker 3: was the reaction on the bench, and like talk a
- 46:40Speaker 3: little bit about this this Roosky, that's just he's the
- 46:43Speaker 3: bear man.
- 46:44Speaker 4: Yeah, like you said, he is a bear. I mean
- 46:45Speaker 4: when we saw that kind of I guess formulating where
- 46:50Speaker 4: more came in there. I felt bad for him because
- 46:53Speaker 4: he obviously didn't quite know what he was getting himself into.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Nicky is one guy I would I would never ever fight.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Just like you said, he's massive, so strong, and he's rushing,
- 47:05Speaker 4: so he's a little well, he's wired a little bit differently,
- 47:06Speaker 4: so he's a little bit crazy.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Especially the rushing part of it. There's no question about it.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I mean it's interesting. I don't want to dwell on
- 47:14Speaker 1: it too much, Seth. But with the Olympus coming up,
- 47:16Speaker 1: everyone's excited about it. Obviously, wish you were there. Have
- 47:19Speaker 1: you heard anything from Team Canada They at least give
- 47:21Speaker 1: you a call or give you their thought process.
- 47:23Speaker 4: Just to stay ready, I mean in case someone goes down.
- 47:27Speaker 4: I'm sure there's other guys on that list too, but
- 47:30Speaker 4: just to be ready in case they call my name,
- 47:32Speaker 4: which I mean I always am. So you never want
- 47:35Speaker 4: to see anyone get hurt and never want to have
- 47:37Speaker 4: to fill in a position like that. But if I
- 47:39Speaker 4: do get called, I'll be more than ready, more than
- 47:41Speaker 4: have to come contribute.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Well.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Obviously, with like the shortened season too, you never know,
- 47:46Speaker 3: like how's that been? Just this is this season just
- 47:48Speaker 3: seems like it's it's been thrown in a blender, like I,
- 47:52Speaker 3: you know, covering it and now being out of the
- 47:54Speaker 3: game for the past two three years. Like I just
- 47:57Speaker 3: feel like every day I'm like, oh, there's twelve games,
- 47:59Speaker 3: and there's twelve games. I feel like, how's the how's it,
- 48:02Speaker 3: how's it been in what's changed for you guys in preparation,
- 48:06Speaker 3: you know, whether you're practicing less or how's that just
- 48:09Speaker 3: been the whole process with this schedule that I think
- 48:12Speaker 3: is just insane right now.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm glad you said it because this is I've
- 48:17Speaker 4: I don't remember playing as many back to back since
- 48:19Speaker 4: maybe junior, Like it's uh, it's it seems like you
- 48:23Speaker 4: play like a game, you get like maybe a day
- 48:25Speaker 4: or two and then you're in a back to back
- 48:27Speaker 4: playing a game back to back. So it's been it's
- 48:29Speaker 4: been a lot. Obviously, definitely less practicing than normal just
- 48:34Speaker 4: with the way it's been. But there's there was a
- 48:37Speaker 4: good stretch there where it felt like we were playing
- 48:39Speaker 4: almost every day.
- 48:42Speaker 1: And it's gonna be like the coming out of the break,
- 48:43Speaker 1: those games are all gonna be condensed. So that's that's the.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Age after the break. It's like, yeah, that's nuts. There's
- 48:49Speaker 3: like thirty forty games up.
- 48:50Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Seth, I know you're a proud Winnipeg guy. You
- 48:54Speaker 1: grew up watching Jonathan Taves with the Blackhoks multiple Stanley
- 48:57Speaker 1: Cups as a fan from the peg. What's it like
- 48:59Speaker 1: seeing a local legend come to your hometown team now
- 49:02Speaker 1: with the Jets.
- 49:03Speaker 4: It's crazy. I'm I mean, that's I think what anyone,
- 49:07Speaker 4: not just being from win if I have anyone in hockey,
- 49:08Speaker 4: would love to do play for their hometown team, play
- 49:11Speaker 4: for the team they grew up watching. So to see
- 49:13Speaker 4: him do that and see like the just the buzz
- 49:15Speaker 4: it's created Winnipeg, I think, especially right when it happened,
- 49:18Speaker 4: the city was going crazy. So it's it's been fun
- 49:21Speaker 4: to watch. Definitely something keeping tabs on. Just as a
- 49:24Speaker 4: kid at heart, I do. I do love watching him
- 49:26Speaker 4: and seeing him on the Jets is definitely definitely cool
- 49:29Speaker 4: and something that a little bit jealousy gets to experience
- 49:32Speaker 4: that that be that'd be fun to do.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Oh you get a long career, man, so just what
- 49:37Speaker 3: you can go take three years off and go do
- 49:38Speaker 3: a whole erabatic Indian experience, go back play for the peg.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Perfect three years off like that guy.
- 49:46Speaker 2: I mean, I saw him in Arizona.
- 49:48Speaker 3: I hung out with him a little bit when he
- 49:50Speaker 3: was making his comeback, and you know, I took the
- 49:52Speaker 3: I took a year off before my last year, and
- 49:54Speaker 3: I was like, how are you doing it and just
- 49:57Speaker 3: like it's like it takes like ten times more discipline
- 50:00Speaker 3: than normally because you're just so out of the rhythm
- 50:02Speaker 3: of it.
- 50:03Speaker 2: But you do good job.
- 50:04Speaker 3: But you know, staying on Winnipeg a little bit and
- 50:08Speaker 3: tying in, you know, you staying ready for Team Canada.
- 50:11Speaker 3: For you, like, is it going to be did you
- 50:14Speaker 3: have a do you have a break set up? Do
- 50:16Speaker 3: you have a vacation setup or is it more like
- 50:17Speaker 3: you're gonna kind of stay close to Carolina, maybe skate
- 50:21Speaker 3: a bit or go home, see some family and just
- 50:23Speaker 3: wait to see if you get the call.
- 50:25Speaker 4: I got a couple of plans. I mean, I haven't
- 50:27Speaker 4: really set anything. They kind of told me to hold
- 50:29Speaker 4: off on it, which I mean kind of suck a
- 50:32Speaker 4: little bit, but.
- 50:34Speaker 1: You can.
- 50:34Speaker 4: But obviously for me, yeah, for that opportunity, I'm more
- 50:38Speaker 4: than more than willing to do that. But uh yeah,
- 50:40Speaker 4: I have a few few plans in mind. So we'll
- 50:42Speaker 4: just kind of see how it shakes down.
- 50:44Speaker 1: To just make sure the trip to Bahamas, you know,
- 50:46Speaker 1: you're able to cancel within twenty four hours.
- 50:47Speaker 3: I take take a Europeede vacation, go to a take
- 50:51Speaker 3: just be just kind of around the area, but going Yeah, yeah.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That's a great call by JD. Since you came to
- 50:59Speaker 1: the league staff, we've come to really loved your crew
- 51:01Speaker 1: from your hometown, but so support of you over the
- 51:03Speaker 1: over the years. How are those guys do and you're
- 51:05Speaker 1: gonna see them at all over the break?
- 51:07Speaker 4: Yeah, one's down here right now. He's been down here
- 51:10Speaker 4: for what feels like forever, but it's been probably a
- 51:12Speaker 4: couple of weeks, and then the rest of them are
- 51:14Speaker 4: coming down on the fifteenth, so they'll be here kind
- 51:19Speaker 4: of for that tail end of the break and then
- 51:20Speaker 4: leave right before we start up again.
- 51:22Speaker 2: So it'll be.
- 51:23Speaker 4: Nice to see him, nice to hang out. They got
- 51:25Speaker 4: some free time now, so it'll be it'll be cool.
- 51:28Speaker 3: What if they made a sequel an Entourage based on
- 51:31Speaker 3: you and your crew there? What you know, who would
- 51:33Speaker 3: you want to play you? Who would be the turtle?
- 51:36Speaker 3: Would be a turtle?
- 51:40Speaker 4: I don't know. I think we might have five turtles,
- 51:43Speaker 4: so we all might fall under the same same character.
- 51:48Speaker 4: But that would be I don't know if they can
- 51:50Speaker 4: air that show.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Yeah, there's too many Johnny dramas in there. Johnny Dramas.
- 51:55Speaker 1: You're one of two active in Nhler's named Seth along
- 51:58Speaker 1: with Seth Jones, so it's also been on our podcast
- 52:01Speaker 1: we have to ask who is your favorite Seth Seth
- 52:03Speaker 1: mcfer on, the Creator, Family Guy, and noted singer Seth
- 52:06Speaker 1: Rogan of course the studio and very comedic actor Seth
- 52:09Speaker 1: Rollins a singer, or Seth Green an actor of a
- 52:12Speaker 1: different era as well.
- 52:15Speaker 4: My I gotta go Seth Brogan. I watch all his movies.
- 52:18Speaker 4: I love that guy.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Fellow Canadian as well.
- 52:20Speaker 2: What's your favorite Seth Rogan movie?
- 52:22Speaker 4: Pineapple Express?
- 52:24Speaker 1: Great movie, James Franco.
- 52:25Speaker 4: Fantastic dam Bad.
- 52:29Speaker 3: That scene was read, Yeah so good. No, listen, Seth,
- 52:37Speaker 3: I you know I followed your career now and obviously
- 52:40Speaker 3: as somebody that when I played tried to kind of
- 52:42Speaker 3: toe the line of being you know, loose and fun
- 52:46Speaker 3: with the media and and you being outgoing and also
- 52:49Speaker 3: being serious when it's time to play. Like, how do
- 52:52Speaker 3: you find towing that line?
- 52:53Speaker 2: You know?
- 52:53Speaker 3: And did you ever kind of encounter anything early in
- 52:55Speaker 3: your career where you maybe got brought in and and
- 52:58Speaker 3: somebody was like, hey, like you're joking too much or
- 53:01Speaker 3: you're not being professional, even though that's just the way
- 53:03Speaker 3: you get ready for a game.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Not really.
- 53:07Speaker 4: Everyone's been really great with me since the moment I
- 53:10Speaker 4: came in. I think I've had a couple of conversations
- 53:13Speaker 4: were ADDI just about being a professional, like you said,
- 53:16Speaker 4: And at some moments there was when I was my
- 53:19Speaker 4: first couple of years, He's okay, you're still doing a
- 53:22Speaker 4: job like this is still still a job, still in business.
- 53:25Speaker 4: So he's definitely helped me kind of, I guess, not
- 53:29Speaker 4: making such a wide range of goofing off and being
- 53:32Speaker 4: a professional and kind of being able to bring it
- 53:35Speaker 4: in a little bit, reel it in, and so it's
- 53:37Speaker 4: gotten better. But no, everyone's been great with me. I
- 53:39Speaker 4: haven't really had any issues other than maybe a couple
- 53:41Speaker 4: of conversations WEREROADI.
- 53:43Speaker 1: I loved watching Brindamore play. Obviously he was a great
- 53:46Speaker 1: power forward and now as a coach, obviously being exemplary.
- 53:48Speaker 1: But I'm always just amazed, like a guy with the
- 53:50Speaker 1: nick mcrob, the bond, it is truly legit, how fit
- 53:53Speaker 1: he is. Who can pinch more you or anybody on
- 53:56Speaker 1: the team over brindanmore.
- 53:58Speaker 4: Well definitely not me, Absolutely not me. I mean, like
- 54:02Speaker 4: maybe Jeordo. I don't even like it's almost kind of
- 54:06Speaker 4: like disrespectful, how good a shape he's in compared to
- 54:09Speaker 4: everybody else and what it looks like. So, uh, I'm
- 54:13Speaker 4: I got my shirt on, hoodie on. Whenever I'm around him,
- 54:16Speaker 4: I'm not I have all the layers.
- 54:18Speaker 3: Do you have any stories of him, like in the
- 54:20Speaker 3: gym where you're maybe like you're you know, you're just
- 54:23Speaker 3: in there trying to lift, and then he just rolls
- 54:25Speaker 3: in and just starts squatting four plates.
- 54:27Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I don't even know how much like weight,
- 54:30Speaker 4: like real weight he's lifting anymore. He like walks around
- 54:33Speaker 4: with his air pods in. He always wears his weight
- 54:35Speaker 4: vest for some reason, and then just kind of buzzes
- 54:38Speaker 4: around the gym and like touching different equipment and he's
- 54:41Speaker 4: just always moldering at a thousand miles an hour.
- 54:45Speaker 1: I'll never forget. Years ago, Seth there was a hurricane
- 54:47Speaker 1: Sabers postme. I was waiting to talk to Rod and
- 54:49Speaker 1: I kind of just looked in and he was just
- 54:51Speaker 1: like cranking like one hundred push ups, Like this guy's
- 54:53Speaker 1: you just playing in the NHL Gate Like what I understand?
- 54:56Speaker 1: Push hums in and then you're gonna address the media
- 54:58Speaker 1: it was crazy.
- 54:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he's he's wired way differently than anyone I've ever seen.
- 55:04Speaker 3: Yeah, Like, I my assumption is he drinks like twelve
- 55:07Speaker 3: cups of coffee a day.
- 55:08Speaker 2: But I bet you, like he doesn't.
- 55:10Speaker 4: Drink any No, I don't, I don't. I think that's
- 55:13Speaker 4: just pure just whatever is in his body. I like,
- 55:16Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't know what fuels that, but
- 55:19Speaker 4: whatever it is, it's working.
- 55:21Speaker 2: You're a piss and.
- 55:22Speaker 5: Vinegar, right, yeah, tal go ahead, Yeah, hey, Seth, quick question.
- 55:27Speaker 5: It just seems like every year there's a rookie that
- 55:29Speaker 5: comes onto your squad and makes an instant impact. Is
- 55:33Speaker 5: nikishin the Bear this season? Jackson Blake instant impact last season?
- 55:37Speaker 1: You know, you and.
- 55:38Speaker 5: Chatfield a few years ago. I'm just curious, is there
- 55:41Speaker 5: something the staff there or Rod does or says to
- 55:44Speaker 5: the incoming rookies and first your guys to kind of
- 55:48Speaker 5: help them integrate and have such a huge impact right away.
- 55:51Speaker 4: I mean, like, I think you got to give a
- 55:53Speaker 4: lot of props to the organization whoever skelting, because they
- 55:56Speaker 4: find really good talent. I mean, like I think Blaker
- 55:58Speaker 4: was a fourth round pick and like not really projected
- 56:01Speaker 4: to do much and the way he's came in and,
- 56:03Speaker 4: like you said, made an impact right away and been
- 56:05Speaker 4: an incredible player. Nikki same thing. Maybe he was a
- 56:07Speaker 4: little bit easier to scale because he's an absolute freak.
- 56:09Speaker 4: But I think some of these guys, like right when
- 56:13Speaker 4: you step in step into our organization, I feel like
- 56:15Speaker 4: they do a good job. It's setting the tone of
- 56:17Speaker 4: what they expect from you. And especially as a young guy,
- 56:20Speaker 4: I think Rod does a really good job at not
- 56:22Speaker 4: giving you too much on your plate right away and
- 56:24Speaker 4: letting you kind of integrate into the NHL and figure
- 56:26Speaker 4: it out a little bit. And then as he gets
- 56:28Speaker 4: more confidence in you, you start getting little more opportunity
- 56:30Speaker 4: and then it's just kind of in your hands whether
- 56:33Speaker 4: you take advantage of it or not.
- 56:36Speaker 5: Right And on the other end, you guys have such
- 56:39Speaker 5: a solid group of vets on that team. You know,
- 56:42Speaker 5: I'm assuming it starts with Stallsy and Ajo, but like,
- 56:46Speaker 5: who is the guy that when he comes in the
- 56:48Speaker 5: room and starts talking that everyone's everyone's starting to pay attention.
- 56:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I think like obviously Marty talks the most, but
- 56:57Speaker 4: sometimes it's like a little bit of verbal diarrhea that
- 57:00Speaker 4: comes out of his most, so you take it with
- 57:02Speaker 4: a grain of salt, but he's he's incredible. Well, he
- 57:04Speaker 4: brings the most energy I've seen out of somebody. But yeah,
- 57:08Speaker 4: like Stallsy and especially when Ajo talks. He doesn't talk
- 57:11Speaker 4: a whole lot, but when he talks, you know something's
- 57:13Speaker 4: up and everyone's really kind of ears perked up and listening.
- 57:17Speaker 4: But I think the thing that makes it so good
- 57:19Speaker 4: is we have such a different wide range of personalities
- 57:22Speaker 4: that you kind of everything. We kind of check all
- 57:25Speaker 4: the boxes in terms of whether you have a quiet
- 57:27Speaker 4: leader like Jordan or Fishy. You have Marty that's screaming
- 57:30Speaker 4: the whole time, you have guys kind of in the
- 57:31Speaker 4: middle of it. So I think just the leadership, like
- 57:35Speaker 4: you said, the veterans we have, especially as a young guys,
- 57:38Speaker 4: is incredible.
- 57:40Speaker 3: You know my last one because you mentioned Martin Nook
- 57:42Speaker 3: and you know I had was with him for three
- 57:45Speaker 3: four years in Arizona's some great times. I love that guy,
- 57:50Speaker 3: had him on the show as well. I mean, do
- 57:52Speaker 3: you have a mark Jordan Martinook's story that is fit
- 57:55Speaker 3: for radio and podcasting of just how wild he is?
- 58:00Speaker 3: Because you mentioned verbal diary, and I think that's perfectly
- 58:03Speaker 3: sums up Jordan Martin in the best way possible.
- 58:06Speaker 4: I don't know if I have one fit for a podcast.
- 58:10Speaker 4: I mean, like, oh, geez.
- 58:13Speaker 3: He he does talk the most and I don't know
- 58:15Speaker 3: if he's like that, but he is one of the
- 58:16Speaker 3: most like because he's such a nice guy. He's very
- 58:19Speaker 3: sensitive as well.
- 58:21Speaker 2: Like him.
- 58:23Speaker 4: Oh we have Yeah, he is on our forever number
- 58:27Speaker 4: one on our team sensitivity list me and then me
- 58:30Speaker 4: and another guy send out a little thing every couple
- 58:32Speaker 4: of months in our group chat about just most sensitive
- 58:34Speaker 4: guys on our team, and he tops it everything. And
- 58:37Speaker 4: like you said, yeah, he'll he'll chirpy'll chirpy'll chirp you,
- 58:41Speaker 4: and then you say one thing and the whole world's
- 58:43Speaker 4: ending and it's all going down the drain. But he's yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 4: I mean, like you said, he's the best guy. But
- 58:49Speaker 4: he's he's fun to kind of get going sometimes.
- 58:52Speaker 2: We used.
- 58:53Speaker 3: I mean, he's gonna be mad if he hears this
- 58:56Speaker 3: at me for even bringing up this question, even though
- 58:59Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, I love you and everything, but I
- 59:01Speaker 3: know you're sensitive.
- 59:01Speaker 2: He'll be mad at me and text me and be upset.
- 59:06Speaker 1: Don't give any more. Amo seth don't say. They just
- 59:08Speaker 1: let it go between Marty and j D. Last thought this, Yeah,
- 59:11Speaker 1: your coach John Cooper at Four Nations the get up
- 59:14Speaker 1: of the ear. If you haven't seen it, I'm sure
- 59:16Speaker 1: you have. It's that lightning game. I mean, as Ryan
- 59:18Speaker 1: mcdonaugh say, he loves his Cuban cigars and Cuban style.
- 59:20Speaker 1: But I was not prepared for the Fedora open shirt
- 59:23Speaker 1: street of scarface. How good was Coop looking?
- 59:26Speaker 4: I could not Like. I just turned on the game
- 59:28Speaker 4: and I was like, what the hell is this white
- 59:31Speaker 4: thing in the back of the bench And I clued
- 59:33Speaker 4: him pretty quickly out of his coop and I didn't
- 59:37Speaker 4: see too many close up shots. And then I saw
- 59:39Speaker 4: a clip of him like walk into the dress room
- 59:41Speaker 4: maybe after the game, smoking a cigar in his suit,
- 59:44Speaker 4: and I was like that that could not sum him
- 59:46Speaker 4: up more perfect.
- 59:48Speaker 3: It was well they had him, They had him on
- 59:50Speaker 3: the bench at five to one down and it was
- 59:52Speaker 3: just the funniest thing. I'm like, what are you What
- 59:54Speaker 3: is he yelling at the guys in the locker room
- 59:56Speaker 3: in the he bore Outfitch, guys, make the fuck up,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: get serious, and it's like, come on, Coop.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Yeah, greatest comeback ever in out to our game history.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: And I'm saying because of the outfit. It was all
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: John Cooper was just fantastic. You were obviously great at
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: four Nations. You're having another fantastic of the Hurricanes, and
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: hopefully we see you at the Olympic. Seth, this was
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: so much fun.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I plate a happy birthday and have a great year.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: Awesome. Thank you guys so much.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Thanks once again to Seth. Jefvison fantastic guest and who knows,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: maybe we'll see him at the Olympics playing for a
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: team Canada. Obviously it was great at four Nations and
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: having another strong year for Carolina. We'll get to Nate Thompson,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: our special guest in just a second, but first one
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: to talk a little cinephile. In sixty and Song sung
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Bloom a Man, John Forest, in the voice of Amazon
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Primary and Hockey recommended it to me and I said, Johnny,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: and I'm not much of a Neil Diamond kind of guy.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I really don't think it's my kind of movie. He said, no, no,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you gotta see it. I said, no, I understand the
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: movie is Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson playing Neil Diamond
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Tribute band, like just just not my jamis you got
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: to see it all right, fine, get out by back
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: for as you'll watch it And he was right. Fantastic
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: film and thankfully rewarded with Kate Hudson getting an oscar
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: him for Best Actress. The story is this, Hugh Jackman
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: plays one all these down on his lux singers, you know,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: tribute band, etc. Someone says to one day, you look
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: a lot like Neil Diamond. He's like, okay, much like me.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Being told that look like Chris Jellio's Jackman leans into it,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: gets his hair to a certain way, starts wearing the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: sequence suits learn Sweet Caroline meets Kate Hudson proaently, they
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: fall in love, and you think it's a fairly predictable story, right,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: a couple of journeymen living in Wisconsin living out their dream.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: But then tragedy strikes, which I will not disclose. You
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: have to see the film to see that. But that's
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: really where I think the movie took a different turn up.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Until then, it felt fairly predictable, felt like a modern
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: day walk the line, one might say, although obviously Neil
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Diamond Tribute band is not quite Johnny Cash, but the
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: point is both these actors show their range and the
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: music is fantastic. As a guy who did not know
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: much about Neil Diamond aside from again, how much I
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: hate Sweet Caroline, pretty good musician, a lot of good songs,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, maybe it's just a huge Jackman
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: singing voice. Maybe it's just Kate Hudson's fetching personality. But
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: I enjoyed songs sung Blue a lot more than I
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: thought I would. I recommend it right now. Again. Hudson
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: nominated for Best Actress. Jady. Your thoughts on Neil Diamond
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: in general or a Neil Diamond tribute band or just
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: thoughts on tribute bands? If I said to you, hey,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: we can't go see Springsteen, let's go see a Springsteen
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: tribute band, what's your reaction?
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Pass? Now?
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: No?
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: I like? I like Neil Diamond. I mean the songs
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: that I know.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: I don't know his whole I don't know if it's
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: old a Scott disography or whatever the fuck you want
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: to call it, but right, I mean, I love Hugh
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: Jackman talent great, He's great in those musicals.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Yeah, limzab like all these ones, the one man show
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: or the great sort of the greatest showman ever.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Yep, I mean he's great.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: I just so it's like I I enjoy the movies
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: when he's in there.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: He did.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: He's got a wide range show. I agree, And I mean,
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: but I just kind of funny. A tribute band, I
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: was like I thought when I first saw the previews
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: for it, I was like, oh, this is like a
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Neil Diamond like by a file Peck.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, A tribute band. Yeah, where we're at now?
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: Tribute band?
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: You're right, it would make more sense of it's the
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: life and Times of Neil Diamond. No, it's a Neil
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Diamond tribute band.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Tribute band and.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: What happened to them? Again, I don't want to get
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: away too much, but there's a pearl Jam interlude, which
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I was not expect, not any think that. The guy
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: who plays Eddie Vetter's yeah, pearl Well, i'll give it
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: away basically Pearlsy one point calls Hugh Jack when he's
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: like what who who's this? Okay, I don't know what
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: is and his daughter's just freaking you know who Eddie
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Vedder is. He's like, no, he's a callback you know,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: hope he calls back and he's a guy. He goes
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Eddie Vedder wants us to open for them. Now I
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: have to look up this actually happens based on a
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: true story. But apparently the Neil Diamond tribute band opened
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: for Pearlgin when they were in Milwaukee. And the guy
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: playing Vetter is not freaking at all, but he doesn't
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: even resemble Eddie Vedder. But at one point Hugh Jack
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: means like, like, how'd you find me? Like why wouldn't
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: you just get Neil Diamond? And he's like, well, you
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: know Neil's playing another you know he's playing concert somewhere else.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: So I feel the next best thing is you anywan
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: who doesn't love Neil Diamond? And he's like all right,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: And at one point it's a great scene. Eddi Vedder
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: comes up with this just jamming together. So I have
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: no idea if that's true or not, but all your
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: proljam fans out there, Eddie Veder apparently next Neil Diamond
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: a little more than you think. All right, the last
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: time a hug Jack was gonna say he can do
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: something like Prisoners, right, gritty, great drama. But then you're right,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: do a song and dance like Leaeman's Arrob. I mean,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: he's a throwback to when people would say he's a
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: real song and dance man, and he can play Wolverine
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: like he's a billion dollars is wolver Reine like that's
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: his range? I agree with that is absolutely fantastic. All right,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: speaking of range, let's bring in our buddy Nate Thompson
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: right now to talk about a few things. Hi, Nate,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: good to see you, buddy.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Oh hey, boys, what's up.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Good to see you. It's good to see you too.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I'm glad you're going to chop it up with us
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: right now. As far as the point system, so it's
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: got a little bit better right now in the Eastern Conference,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: but it was pretty annoying there. I would say for
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: much of the season that if you went like an
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: O three and one stretch, you'd be out of a
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: playoff spot. Or conversely, if you just kind of banged
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: a bunch of these points, these overtime losses, you'd still
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: be the mix. Now, at least in the East. As
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: I said, there's five points separating a playoff team versus not.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: But JD has a thought here, as I kick it
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: to him. As far as this whole loser points system
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: and the fact that there's way too much congestion and
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: way too many crappy teams garnering points, go ahead, Jady.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Well, I mean, nay, you.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: It's always something that we talk about, I think in
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: the locker room around and you hear it in the
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: media about I just think the playoff format needs to
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: go back to one verse eight, number one and then two.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: I just think they have to finally like really take
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: look and be like, should we go three two one
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: with the point system in the European style, Because if
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: you look in if you look in the Pacific, and
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: I'll kick it to you and you cover the West
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: a lot and you're out and you know you're out.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: You're at West in LA and stuff like that.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: So it's like Vegas's twenty five wins, they're first in
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: the Pacific. Anaheim has thirty wins and they're one point
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: behind them.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: It just doesn't make sense.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: You look at even Seattle's got more wins in Vegas
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: and they're fighting for a playoff spot. San Jose has
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: more wins in Vegas and they're out of the playoffs.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: So it's like it's just there needs to be it
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: needs to be looked at because it's kind of like
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: you get to those and I know, and we know
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: because remember when we played and you'd be playing a
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: good team or something, not saying that Vegas isn't a
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: good team, but you're getting to like two minutes left,
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: you're like, hey, guys, just let's just get a point.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Let's just get a point and then take our chances
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: in the shootout or three on three and and if
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: that's your the way you do it, I mean it's great,
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: but Vegas is fourteen overtime losses. It's I don't know,
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: it's a little bit it's a little bit annoying to me.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: And I feel like it's it's starting to become too
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: loud to not have them really look at it.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I completely agree with you, especially on the one
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: through eight format. I just think that you know, we're
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: we're robbed of certain teams not making it further, especially
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: when you have a central division like you know, Minnesota, Dallas,
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: those teams that are going to be playing each other
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: no matter what. So you know that that eliminates that.
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: And then I think, and this is funny, you know,
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: I talked about this with someone the other day and
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: and they brought to my attention possibly doing just a
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: wins losses like the NBA. So if you go into
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: a shootout and you lose no points, nice, so it's
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: just straight wins and losses. And you know that that
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: that would eliminate a lot obviously, right, and that would
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: that would separate who's in and who's not, Because you're right, G.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: I think, you know, especially this season, with how much
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: parody there is. You know, we're seeing right now that
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: the points system and the format I think does make
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: a difference because this year is I mean maybe it's
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: an out light year, but I don't know. I mean this,
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: it seems to be trending with how much parody we
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: have in our league and how these teams are just
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: you know, they're evenly matched.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look a look at the metro with Pittsburgh.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: I mean, Pittsburgh's got now they're having a great year,
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: but the twelve overtime losses and they're second, they're ahead
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: of the Islanders have three more wins than them in regulation.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: So it's like, I actually like that little greasy little
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: basketball style just wins losses. But I guess if you
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: do that, do you have to take out the shootout?
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Because then do you have to make it just a
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: full overtime, because that's kind of shitty. If you're fucking losing,
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: you're losing points in a shootout.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: I think theoretically that's what it would be. Yeah, if
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: even if you lose the shootout, no point tal do
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: you miss the old days we were Cronica, We just
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: had a tie, a two two tie as you leave
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: the forum, I'd like the three on three overtime. I
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: think it's been fun.
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: I think it's it's brought in a lot of new
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: fans because it's so back and forth. I just think
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: they need to figure out the points system better. You know,
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: three or three overtime is basically a coin flip at
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: this point. You know, you go, how many times you
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: see a team go get numbers, go down, miss the net,
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: and then they got a break going the other way
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: and they put in the net and the game's over.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: You can't tell me that in an overtime win is
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: worth as much as a regulation when not even close.
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: So you know, I think they definitely have to do
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: something as far as the points system in the standings
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: and definitely got to go back to one three eight.
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: I mean, it's looking like Dallas Minnesota is pretty much
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: locked in already for first round of the playoffs. And
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: that's that's criminal that one of those teams is going
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: to go out in the first round of the playoffs.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: That can't be.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: So we got to fix that.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Yeah. In converse with the Ducks, I mean, who knows,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: and I could be trying to steal away the Pacific
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: here if they keep things going here.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: As far as the pacifics sucks right now.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: I know it's not really a great division. Let's be honest. Meantime,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Auto woe. We've been tracking lead us Omark's absence from
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: the center, so some time now Sin is pulling up
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Monster wins were Vegas and Colorado before their franchise. Go
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: returned Olmark on his first two starts after returning to
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: the lineup, fallowing a leave of address, leave of absence,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: I should say, to address his mental health. The Sins
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: played a welcome back pregame video for all marks Saturday night.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: The team appear poised, perhaps to make a run tough
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: loss against Carolina and Tuesday Nate, What are the odds
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: at Ottawa now with their goalie back, can make the playoffs.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: I don't like it.
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: I just think that there's too many other teams ahead
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: of them that are fighting for a spot, and and
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: Otto flirted with it were to too much to start
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: the season. And yes they had some injuries, but they
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: just weren't able to keep their head above water. And
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: then obviously with the goaldending issues they've had. I just
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: I don't see them jumping other teams just because of
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: like we just talked about how tight the race is
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: right now. It's just it's just too too hard for them,
- 1:09:53Speaker 6: and it's I mean, I feel like a little bit
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: an idiot because I actually picked them at one point.
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: I thought being the season that they would maybe win
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: the Atlantic. I thought they were set up like that,
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: but it wasn't a bad way off.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Well listen, right now, it's they'd have to catch Washington
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: Toronto in Boston. Yeah, I mean sixty one points right now,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: there's seven points out of a wild card spot. They're
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: nine points out of the Atlantic in that third spot.
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: It's not gonna happen, Jady, No, I mean, I mean
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: listen that, Like I said, this is the one team
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: I think I you know, I've just been like updating
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: who I think is currently eliminated on Twitter from the playoffs,
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: and I have, you know, like I said, I have Philly,
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: Florida Jersey and Rangers are done Autawa's I'm kind of
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: like I need to see one more loss. But again,
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: it's if they got it's sad because if you look
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: at the goaltending situation, if they got like eight ninety
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: or better, they'd be first in the Atlantic. So you
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: weren't wrong on the pick. Like if you look at
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: their save percentage, if they got it was like eight
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: ninety five or better this year, they would have fucking
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: ran away with the Atlantic because they got every other
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: piece there. So it's like that's probably the most frustrating spot,
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: is like you got all these goaltending problems and you've
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: got a good team, and you're like, we're playing great hockey,
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: but now we have to like play ultra defensive because
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: we don't trust our goaltender. So hopefully line of Sulmark
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: can come back Lenas and and kind of provide a
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: little bit of stability for him, just because it's you know,
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: there could it's one of those teams that could make
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: a push. I do believe, but again with the loser
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: point seven points out coming off a break, I don't
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: know it's gonna because when you look after the break,
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: if it's like fifty days in the season's.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Over, twenty five games and fifty days.
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: It's insane. Nate, like, fifty and fifty days is insane.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: We're gonna blank, it's over.
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: Yeah, it's an absolute sprint. I mean, I think another
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: team too that that that's interesting, is I mean we
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: put them in that level as Florida. But yeah, it'll
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: be uh, it'll be nuts as soon as soon as the.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: Olympics are over.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Yeah, greater chance of Florida not making the playoffs and
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: making the playoffs. It's just crazy to think about two
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: times Stanley Cup champions.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: They're done.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: It was gad on hog Day and on AMC props
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: in for re running groundhog Day all day long, twenty
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: four hours of Bill Murray. I'm a god, I'm not
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: the god. Speaking of Groundhog Day and Edmonton goaltending issues again.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: So Calvin Picker, who's beloved by teammates, gets put on
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: waivers Monday. Tristan Jarry was supposed to solidify the Oiler's crease.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: I think JD and I boast is kind of lateral move.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: But you figured Skinner wasn't the guy you mixed up
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: a little bit. Well, he wins his first three games
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: the Oilers. Jarry went since then three three and one.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: He's allowed four goals or more four of those seven games.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Stuart Skinner mean time, has helped put the Penguins back
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: to the top of the metro eight of his last
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: nine starts for Pittsburgh. JD was just an epic fail
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: by Edmonton management thinking they were upgrading instead downgrading with Jarry.
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: Well, I think listen, they got rid of the goldie coach,
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: so you kind of you kind of noticed that maybe
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: they threw a little bit of blame on him. But
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: I mean they talked about it last game and non
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Block came out and was like, you know, defensively, he's like,
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: we're not giving up a lot of chances, but they're
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: great a chances when we're giving up. And even Jari
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: came out and said like he's like, hey, guys, like
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: I haven't been great, but like it's also like breakaways.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: It's like breakaways and two on zhos and two on
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: ones for Tapans like, that's that's hard on a goalie.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: So but again, I just think that's been Edmonton's mL.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: They've wanted this goalie that's supposed to be this you know,
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: Patrick Law and just be this grant fear of days old.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: But again I think defensively there they've been better, but
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: they still give up too much like high high end
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: chances and they're willing to trade and play at track
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: me and you're unfortunately going to lose more times than
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: you'll win. But when you have McDavid and Leon Drisdle
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: and you have these guys that are playing twenty five
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: minutes a night, Nate, it's just like it's hard to
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: find that that balance because those guys don't want to
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: sit back and play defensively minded game. They want to
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: play offense. They want to go in the hunt.
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: Yeah, the Oilers they need to go find a goalie
- 1:14:02Speaker 6: like Stuart Skinner right now. It's funny, it's funny how
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: this works out right for for them.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: But I agree with you.
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: I think this this is that this is Edmonton Oilers
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: in a nutshell. I mean, they they will score goals there,
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: They'll never never have an issue doing that, But I
- 1:14:20Speaker 6: think for them it's, you know, they defensively. I think
- 1:14:24Speaker 6: sometimes when they have the goaltending issues they have, it's
- 1:14:27Speaker 6: because of how they play defensively, or you know, they
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: will play run and gun, or they'll you know, they'll
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: they'll have games where they they'll give up five six goals.
- 1:14:36Speaker 6: It's just this is kind of what they do throughout
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: the season. They'll just still have these lapses.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: But you know, for.
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: Tristan Jarry, for the for the Oilers, I think for him,
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: like like Stuart Skinner, you're seeing in Pittsburgh, you know
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: they're playing so well defensively in front of them that
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: you know, those those correly it goes hand in hand.
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: I think for the same thing with the Oilers and Jarry,
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: I think if they can play better defensively, he's going
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: to get better numbers too, No.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Doub about it. Oilers are going to be playoff team,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: obviously led by their dynamic duo. The goaltending though, does
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: need to be short up. If indeed they're going to
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: finally win, Lord Stanley, it's time to hand out some
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: flowers here the month of January, still hoping to get
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: that sponsorship for one hundred Flowers dot Com. In the meantime,
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: thirty one hat tricks in one month. That's an NHL
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: record for one month. Miek has a bit of Chad
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: was the only player two hatties in that span, including
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: you want the Winter Classic. Bruin is the only team
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: with multiple players score hat tricks in the same game.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Oiler's first team in HL history. Defense been scoring hat
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: tricks back to back Evan Bouchard and Mattias ack Home.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: It was at the X home game that Monday game
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: was on Prime against the Ducks, and Everington and Buffalo
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: both had three hat tricks last month and three rookies
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: got hat tricks j D. That's just an incredible month
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: of offense.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: Yeah, play some fucking goddamn defense. Somebody just Hattie.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Watched every every night's Hattie watched everybody.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Oh youren go another hat trick.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: I mean I was telling U, I was I was
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: watch when I watched the Winter Classic, you know, And
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: it's this is because I like the hat trick for Flowers.
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: I have another guy I wanted to throw flowers to,
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: which is gonna be Nikita Kutrov, who is gonna get
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: robbed at the Hart Trophy probably once again, but he
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: is on absolute.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: He may be up. It could be it could be
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: theoretically Dave and celebrating. He might even be top three.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: He's gonna win.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: He's gonna win the art Ross right like he's gonna
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: win the race, like he is what he's like, I
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: tell you can get the numbers, but he is. It's
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: insane what he's doing right now. But yeah, like it
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: just it's you bet the over every time right now
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: in the NHL, and and it's it's crazy, it's weird
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: how maybe it is just an outlier year, Nate, but
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: like it's it's fun to watch though, like seeing these
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: guys every night. Anyone can get a hat trick, doesn't
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: matter who you can get. Eric Turnach can get a
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: hat trick right now at this point.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: Eric just catching catch.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: He looked awful on that.
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: He's right though, because I never had a hat trick
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: and all these guys are getting hat tricks. The one
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: that's most impressive to me is that is Bouchard and
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: then Mackholm. Was it back to back games, back to
- 1:17:11Speaker 6: back games like two d back to back. That was
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: That's crazy to me that that even happened. Yeah, this
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: is the goal scoring. Uh, this year's is crazy. I
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: mean the hat tricks for the rookies, I mean everybody.
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: I mean it's uh, you're right, you said it.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: JD.
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: It's a taddy watch every single.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Night, Havelrigenda. Yeah, the journey man gets one, gets Brigenda
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: gainst one. I love it. Brigenda Seneca justin sort of
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: three rookies there in the mix. Also gonna hand up
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: flowers to Quinn Hughes twenty nine assists in twenty five games,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: to the wild most ever by an NHL defenseman. In
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: his first twenty five games of the team, he had
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: three assists against the Habs, extending his points trick to
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: nine games. That's the longest points trick by defenseman and
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: wild history. Talking to John Hines at Morning Skate, I
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: said to him, what's Quinn Hughes's greatest asset? And I
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: have a personality flaw when people pause too long, but
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: I interrupt for them. So I'm working on that. So
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: I ast to go, what's his greatest scale? And he
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: gave one of these like, and I go, don't answer.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: Don't let him answer. I don't care if takes twenty seconds.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: You let him answer. She goes, i'd have to say,
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: is skating and I was like yeah, and he's like, yeah,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: my efforts. I was like, well, I think I could
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: have guessed that one. But he then went on to
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: say his playmaking and his vision is amazing. When aunest
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: it all starts with the skating. He's such an incredible
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: skater that without that, and after some joking, think I
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: should have ma, no, thanks, John, I'm skating, okay, he's
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: a really skater.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: Oh hey, let me let me write that down. John.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: I did ask Bill Garrett because we had him on
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: at the intermission, and I said, you know how momentous
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: was getting Quinn Hughes. He's like it was unbelievable. He's like,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: because you don't see what it's like for GM. He's like,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: I didn't think I'd be able to get him, and
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: then I got him. I'm like, wow, I just put
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: my feet up and just watch it go. Like because
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: you think the fans are said, how excited you think
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I was? I don't care. Hilarious guys and what Quinn
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Hughes has done, and they truly do believe JD that
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: they can beat Dallas, they can beat Colerad. There's that
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: belief in that team right now, like they if they're
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: strong top to bottom.
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: I mean, I've talked about and I think they're playing
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: him too much right now with the Olympics.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Coming thirty three minutes he played money.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: Night fucking crazy. They're playing him too much. Like I understand,
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: you're in a playoff spot. You're playing Dallas no matter
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: what it's like. No one's catching you, like I think,
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: like you. But when they're healthy and their decore is healthy,
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: they're gonna have to spread those minutes because I think
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: they got the best decoorp in the league when they're healthy.
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: They've just been a little injury real Nate. But yeah,
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: I mean that is hilarious to be like John Skating,
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: Thanks Buddy, Thanksval, hard hitting journalism.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: There the sky, Oh my god, it was glue blue. Good.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: There we go. But Nat, if it wasn't for cal McCarry,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: Quinn Hughes would win the Norris. But I feel like
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: it's gonna be in a car for a year as long
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: as he's healthy.
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: Yeah, it's tough that cal McCarty is in the same
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: league as Quinn Hughes while he's playing so well.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: I mean, but.
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: I'm laughing at at John Hines like captain obvious with
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: with this skating, you.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Know, I mean that's something.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: Thanks thanks next tips.
- 1:20:06Speaker 6: Yeah it is though. It's it's this Minnesota team. This
- 1:20:11Speaker 6: I think thought more than any other year, Like they
- 1:20:13Speaker 6: have another year and you're watching the games, like that
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: game against Montreal, like they it's almost like they found
- 1:20:19Speaker 6: another year. They turned it up another notch. And I
- 1:20:22Speaker 6: think having Quinn Hughes and you know, Billy Garrant talks
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: about it, it's almost like Billy Garrant talks about he
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: you know, he's playing like Fantasy GM and he you know,
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: he got his defenseman, he got Quinn Hughes, you know,
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: because he's so excited about it. But I think because
- 1:20:36Speaker 6: they get him, I do. I think that they could easily,
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: not easily, but they could beat Dallas in the first round.
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: I think that they are They're that team.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: Now. Yeah, I don't think it beat color up, but
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I think they can beat Dallas.
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: Go ahead, Jady, No, I just I think this to
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: your point, uh and then cal mccarr like, I think
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: this Norris race is a little bit more open than
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: people think. Right now, Nice, I think you got Wrensky
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: right now if he if he clawsed Columbus back in
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: the playoffs, like they're an absolute run. He's leading all
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: dan points. You got Laane Hudson in Montreal and Ny
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: which you've covered the Canadians like he's having a fucking
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: incredible year. I mean, Bouchard's at sixty points. He probably
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: won't win it just because he's Bouchard. But and then
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: you got cues like I think it's I think it's
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: gonna be a lot tighter than then we think. And
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: if I don't think it should be just Cale mccarr.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: You know, because again a lot of the times, the
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: writers for this or whoever votes, they vote so early.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: And they had a great start Colorado, but they've struggled
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: the past five ten games with injuries and Kale hasn't
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: played his best. But yeah, I don't know, man, Like
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: just quickly touching on Columbus and what they're doing with
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: Rick Bonas, I mean, they've went one nine of their
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: last ten.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: And bone, no bones about it. He's been no bones
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: about it off the fishing trip. Just sit on the
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: fish trip. Ivn't glass to wine with his wife being
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: like y'all go coach turn this team around. Nate thoughts, Yeah, no,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: I mean I had Rick Bonas as an assistant in Tampa,
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: and this guy he just he just he knows how
- 1:22:03Speaker 6: to get guys. He knows how to get guys going,
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: and especially the young guys, and then you're seeing their
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: goaltending to playing so well. I think I think Bones too,
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: he just has this ability to communicate with guys and
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: he's extremely positive. Like if you watch him during the
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: game on the bench, he's he's tapping guys in the back,
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: he's hitting him, he's you know, he's saying good job.
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: And I think sometimes that positive reinforcement JD. You know,
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: like when a coach when you come back to the
- 1:22:29Speaker 6: bench and a coach is like, hey, good great, great shift,
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: good job, Like you know, you you score a goal
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: and they're giving you that positive reinforcement. It does make
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: a difference, It really does. You're kind of like you
- 1:22:40Speaker 6: have a little more confidence next shift. So I think
- 1:22:42Speaker 6: you're seeing that with Columbus right now. All these guys
- 1:22:44Speaker 6: are they're playing well, but they look like they're having
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: fun of it, look like they're playing with confidence. And
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: then the obvious I think Zach Warinsky I think when
- 1:22:51Speaker 6: he's when he's doing his thing, you know, he leads
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: a charge for them.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: Yeah, they must have really hated Dean Evison.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: That's the other part of the two, which obviously Elvis
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: Marsac said that when Jody Shelley asked him post game,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: what's different, He's like, new coach, that's it, yep, new coach.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, well, lets we know what to Elvis thinks.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Elvis has left the building. In the meantime, this has
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: been a lot of fun. Thanks once again at eight
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: times for jumping on. Thanks to Seth Jarvis, the Carolin Hurricanes,
