- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's so great to be back with you guys.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry for the past few days.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: The wife and I were out in join our 20th anniversary, which was awesome.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: We had such great time just chill on the beach and yeah, just enjoyed life.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: back at it.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: And we are here to continue our countdown series that we do every single off season.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: So pumped about this.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is an episode 1,658 at the 49ers rush podcast.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: Today we're going to be detailing number 68 through 64 of the 49ers 2026 roster.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, excited about this one and I do have to have one real quick.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Give a shout out shout out to one Garcia freaking stud hook the wife and I up with the awesome place of the beach.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: You just want to say thanks enough.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: Me and can't say thanks enough.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: No way, but we had a wonderful time.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Just want to say thanks in a big time listener.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: Good friend and men just want to say thank you.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Now this series we've done it for years, right?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: If you guys are new to this series, just want to say welcome.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: I love doing this year and in year out.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of work.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's shout out to Josh Ben and Zach who helped compile this entire thing.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: And we rank one through 91 and add them all up and then whoever's the least about a point is higher.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's very, very simple.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: But year and in year out, whenever you get to 53 players make this roster and we're going through today, 68 through 64, and it's just like, man,
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: These guys would have made the roster in the past.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: They really, really would have.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we're not projecting these guys to, they're going to have to overperform or outperform those that are ahead of them to make the roster based on where standings are currently.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't mean they won't.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a couple of players on today's list, you know, we do about five at a time.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: And it will just start out, number 68.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Safety, priority free agent,
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: I love this kid, and Josh, he really likes this kid.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: This was one of the players that we ranked.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I had a priority free agent grade on him, but he was one of the 200 plus guys that we ranked pre-draft.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: I liked him.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really did.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: I thought there were a lot of 49er's likes, but there were some major issues too.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, kind of the quick synapses of the safety, jail and strongman priority free agent is he's aggressive.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Niners love that and they're safety's.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: Great reads.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: his decision-making process is great, but he's slow, not an interception guy and has a medical flag on him.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's why he was not drafted and, you know, we detailed this in the 49ers for a strap book.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: We'll go through a lot of our notes of for that.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm telling you right now, where's Jersey number 38?
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's a rookie 22 years old, 61203.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's a big body and safety.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Not the quickest, 4 6 9 40 at a pro day, right?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: So like, yeah, probably 4 7.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: What's that kind of shows on tape?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: And he's got a lot of really good tape.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: He was at Virginia Tech and played, you know, four seasons there.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: They transferred to Notre Dame where he was last year, 2024.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of people know who Jalen Strowman is.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, Notre Dame gets a lot of eyes on the TVs and whatnot.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's a fun player.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: And he jumps off the tape.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to dive into the background, all that kind of different stuff.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Hey.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm telling you right now, like the 49ers are one of the cheapest organizations when it comes to priority free agents.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: They were 28th this year on a mount spent on bringing in priority free agents.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't value
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: using any of their resources that way, and it doesn't really count against the cat, but this was one of the players they gave 60,000 guaranteed, which isn't a lot, but for the 49ers it is.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: They like to pinch pennies here.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: They always have, uh, under Jed York.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: That has not changed.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I wish it would.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a great place to use your resources to get a lot extra.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's like having extra seventh round picks, but
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to tell me the 40 hours would have drafted Jalen Strowman, fifth round would have been way too rich, but like six, seventh round, I've been like, yeah, he's a fit major position of need, safety is an issue for the 49ers still, even after picking up Jalen Strowman and signing Ashden Davis, still an issue, but this was a position in
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: Um, if you did, probably what it went in the sixth round, probably what it went in the fifth round.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, when we're doing the draft live and, you know, going through all that, it's easy to get really upset with the reach picks and what's going on there, not going on there and, you know,
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Man, the collective pitcher is nice.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: And then you get here like, Jalen Strowman, if you would insert him into the 2024 40 irons roster countdown, he would have been around 50.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: But now the depth across this, that's the thing.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: 40 irons roster stacked.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's what a title today's show.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen Strowman being number 68, this just is gonna have to climb 15 spots just to get a chance.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: to make the 53, man.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: I like this kid a lot.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really, really do.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: I do want to say thank you to all the hashtag CCs, the countdown crew coming in.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are awesome.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: What's up Thomas?
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate the kind of words, man.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, 20 years, long time, bro, long time.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, John?
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: So a favorite content you do.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, John.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: The freaking man.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: I hope the family is doing all right, brother, it's always good to see you.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate the work here.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: You were the freaking man.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: So back to Jalen Strowman.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: uh... from bristau uh... virginia went to patreon high school in virginia his older brother Greg was a corner back at virginia tech in a seventh round picking the NFL you went number two forty one in the two thousand eighteen draft he played for five NFL teams but again didn't ever really made a name for himself but having somebody in the family go through this process is important
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, don't do this, do this, pay attention to this, don't skip this, right?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like these are that like he has been through what it's like to climb and to stay in the NFL five NFL teams, that's no joke, that's no joke.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: He played safety and wide receiver in high school when all district honors as a wide receiver, which is interesting because Dude has one interception in his entire career.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's a former wide receiver in no ball skills, but he's always where he needs to be, and I'm watching his tape, and I'm just thinking like man, Marquis Siegel, but slower
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: But he's always there.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, he doesn't give up a lot of space.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: Decent cover guy, even though that's not really his strength.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's an aggressive, run stuffing, box safety that will come down and really, really good with his run pass reads and his eyes.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: And it just comes across.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: But it was really, really weird the lack of ball production.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: Usually you get a interception just by happenstance, but one in his entire college career, it's just like, what's happening here?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: then you go back and you look at his high school stats at wide receiver and it's like what the that makes sense just got hands yeah we don't know um when it rains it pours and whenever it doesn't rain it's dry as hell that that's just kind of the way turnovers and interceptions go even though he transferred to Notre Dame it was a key piece of their defense his senior year still the ball production went there
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: But again, one of the few Jalen Strowman, one of the few priority free agents or undrafted free agents that got guaranteed money, that's 60 grand.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot for the 49ers of Josh, you know, one of the executive producers of today's show.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's got, you know, as a dark horse, making this roster.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the Ash Davis signing does make it more difficult.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: But that is there.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's not to pin in my nine or see.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's one of the people helping here.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, striking gold podcast.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: The hat tip, the RIP.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's simple Jack, I guess, but maybe Rob Latter, I was great to see you, brother.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody go check out the Starky Go podcast, new YouTube channel.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: It is wonderful.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: Go check it out, go check it out.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now, priority free agent, not fast, his protease.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: And you start to look at the traits of Jalen Strowman, and it's just like, oh, okay.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Man, eight and seven, eight cinch hands, tiny hands, 31 inch arms, tiny arms, runs a four, seven, 36 inch vertical, okay, 10, three, broad, okay, seven, one, three, cone, okay, bench press 14 reps. Ah, like, like usually there's one that's like, yeah, like, you know how to mean, that's an athlete.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: Just he's a better football player than an athlete, what an invited to the combine.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, which is crazy with this medical history and the teams he played for in the defenses he was a part of.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: And you know the athletic comp you put in all the measurables and you search across the web, uh, Beau Bride, tomorrow, Hamlin, that that's what this athletic profile brings.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Those aren't to make you feel like, oh man, Jalen Strowman's the next guy, but you watch the tape.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: The dude is just a football player.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: And whenever you get to the back end of the draft or these priority free ages, I want one of two guys.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: I want to lead athletes or I want hardcore football players and you know, if I'm getting a lead athlete that hasn't put it together on tape yet, whatever else cool.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'll take those chances.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'll coach them up.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: or I want the guy that could step in and contribute because just football instincts are there happens to play safety, not a great athlete.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like I love those types of guys on the back in.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you're drafted first, second, third, fourth round.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm one, both.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: But once you get into the back end and these priority free agents, you gotta roll the dice.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: And you just turn on the tape and the whole time you're watching Strowman, you're just like, he's a good player, he's really good player.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's always where he needs to be.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: Man, he's got the right mindset.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: One of those guys is just like, dude, if I can put your instincts and so it's those body who would know.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: But look at this, Lt.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: Simple Jack, you gave us the hat tip.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: You went side to to the other count.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Rob says, yeah, I need to remember to switch to counts before I say hello.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Lt.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Simple Jack, the hat tip cannot die.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, you are the freaking man.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you, brother.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: JD, glad you're here.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Brad, he says, yeah, one of my twins got their first offer last night for long snapper.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I win.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: We all win.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: When one person wins, we all win.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I used to tell people this all the time.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you can get down long snapping, man, you can be a part of any college team you want to be a part, almost.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: And the fact that he's getting offers, I'm telling you, puning, kicking, long snapping, so easy to get on with the college.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Hard to earn a scholarship, but the fact that that happened, man, shout out to big red.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are freaking awesome.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: And that is,
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: I love it, man.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love it.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Michael, what's up?
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: Love these roster countdown.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for all the info and entertainment, John.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're here for you, man.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: We're here for you.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: Um, now my 49ers fit scale because again,
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen Strowman, you know, he was one of the guys that we great.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: I gave a seven one out of 10.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: I rate every single player 200 plus I gave a seven.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: The medical was rough.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: The medical was rough.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: This was my draft of our hour.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: I shouldn't say mine 40 hours rushing.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: the film evaluation five-year player you know excels and too high playing in the box always played a lot of big nickel 49ers love that aggressive style can be good at times and really bad others not a center field safety can't cover the range needed just not
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: not there comes down hill with bad intentions consistently.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: Ball skills ball production not there is entire career more of a dive at your talk tackler instead of bringing his feet and wrapping up season ending injury in 2024 limited him to 22 snaps and that it was a is a clavicle.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: his right shoulder has been an issue.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: He had to have two surgeries and he missed time and three separate seasons because of the right shoulder.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: That is a red flag, red flag, red flag.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a shoulder.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: The 40 hours have taken the examples of this before.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: You look at all the knowfongo who had, I think three shoulder surgeries goes out and has two all proceeds in five seasons, right?
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit different.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: But Jalen Strowman, you're not really taking a risk.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: because he's undrafted.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's a priority free agent.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: So didn't even cost you a draft pick.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you would have spent a sixth on it, I'd be happy.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you would have spent a seventh, I'd be ecstatic.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: You got him as a priority.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: I really do.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: Do I think he's going to make this roster?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's why he's coming in at number 68 on this list.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: But he's just a damn good like safety guy that offers versatility, whether he's a safety, big nickel special teamers.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: You're looking at his PFF grades at Notre Dame 79.8 overall.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: 77.9 coverage.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: 81.2 run defense.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: 11% Miss Tackle for off ball safety.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: Not the best, not the worst.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: 7.7 forced in completion rate.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty good.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty good.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, this is somebody started all 12 games last year gets kind of the basic three year 3.1 million dollar till 60,000 guaranteed and then you look at the safety room, which is lacking a little bit better now than it was last week with the addition of Ash and Davis, Malik Mustafa, Jaya Brown, Marquis Eagle, Ash and Davis, those are the four.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: Then you've got special teamers here in Neil, then Jalen Strowman, Derek Forest, Patrick Morris.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got bodies in the room now that you didn't have after the draft, that helps.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: I like this kid, and do I think Jalen Strowman's gonna be making the roster, the 53?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: I do not.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: the 60,000 guaranteed, usually the 49ers reserve that and basically say look, come in here compete, let's see what you could do.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: But we're basically just going to pay upfront, guaranteed your entire year on the practice squad.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: We want you long term.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Now, if he gets claimed by another team, man, happy for him, you go get it, 40,000 or 60,000 dollars, eight that big of a deal, not too concerned.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: But this is a long-term developmental play with low-risk.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: We'll just see it.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see it with Steven.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: When is that I love it, Merch?
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: Coming out, John?
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably, I say that a lot to, maybe that's a little bit more of a conversation piece than a podcast piece.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I do.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Again excited.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Show the enthusiasm, baby.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: Show the enthusiasm.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that merch, I actually need to get better.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: I have some shirts available on the YouTube channel, but those have been updated in a while.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: I probably need to push the merch a little bit more.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, if you want to help set this up, I don't need more projects and I'm terrible with that stuff, but if somebody out there that's listening, it's like, hey, man, I could help set up, you know, your merch, whatever.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let me know, 401st podcast to Gmail.com.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was looking to expand throw some shirts up there.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: I used to always travel at the 4 hours rush road trip.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'd bring like 200 shirts.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes we'd sell them all, sometimes we'd sell none.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: But it was just too much because then people would want one.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, oh, I just want a medium.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, oh, we're out of mediums.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just got to be way too stressful.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, you know what, no more shirts.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: Too much stress.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: I still bring shirts to give away to the kiddos.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't sell them at events.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, ugh.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: I hate dealing with the sizes and packing on the, ugh.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's a whole whatever.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's keep our countdown going.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: another player.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, not his first time on the countdown.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: Austin Pleasant comes in number 67 this year.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: He was 81 last year, climbed 14 spots, showed a lot of upside.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, started the last, really just started one game, but played the last two games of the regular season, Chicago, and then Seattle played well.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: Now, awesome Versicago.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: everybody got destroyed against Seattle, but filled in for Trent admirably well and had a projection of man.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: This dude could make the 53 man roster, but then they go out not only signed Viderian low to a decent chunk of money,
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: They also go out and draft and recate crews.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: The first tackle they've drafted in five seasons, five drafts.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, Austin Puzzles, it's look like he had a shot and then the Vaderian lows like, all right, maybe not.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Then the Enrique crews, crews, you keep fifth round picks.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: Teams don't cut fifth round picks.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't do that.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so like awesome pleasants is a fun story, man, one, the ginger look of an offensive lineman is awesome.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: You see him.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, that's awesome.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: Plus it's 6, 6, 3, 30.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: He's a big old boy, man.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: Where's Jersey number 62?
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I already chopped up 81 last year on the countdown.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's 67.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: It just like I'm going to be very honest with you.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that he looks so bad in the preseason and training camp, like I was like dude, there's no reason to keep him out of it, that he was a fit.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's very heavy-footed, which in the Chris Forster offensive scheme, Shettyhead Scheme or offensive line play, you got to be kind of quick and nimble on your feet, that short area burst.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have it at all, but what he doesn't have there, he anchors well, and he
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: played really well whenever he got the chance to get Chicago, got completely exposed to gets you out.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so like, is this a guy that you want your number three?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, is he got you want your number four?
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, number five, holy cow.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: As the number five offense of tackle, you love to have this.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, Austin Plessence, again, two two games last year, you saw the good in the bed, went to Ohio, the Bobcats 2015 to 2019 was undrafted in 2020.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: Dossed Brian high school in Ohio played three sports in high school football basketball and ran track.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to know those track time.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's been a practice squad player.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: This is a Chris Forster special.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: You have Jake Brindle, right who followed Chris Forster around the NFL as practiced squad practice squad practiced squad till he got his chance.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: And he's done well.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's made a lot of money.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's what all supplesances just at the tackle position.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now, tackle is a coveted premium NFL position center as not.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a little bit more room at center because teams like to save and pinch pennies there, which is what Jake Brindle does.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact that Austin Pleasant's is 28 has put up some good tape has the signature or sign off of Chris Forster who's an NFL guru when it comes off in some line play, especially in the outside zone.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: It just helps a lot.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's a debt piece.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Number five on the offensive tackle depth chart.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: But has experience and he's got the size in the lead that the 49ers don't really have a lot of that position.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: They go after the speed and all that kind of stuff.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I like that.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: Him and his wife also pleasant welcome the first child last March, son named Bo, how congrats to the family, love that.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: Practice Squad probably where he's going to end up and he's going into a seventh season no major injuries.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's played in 20 games in his career.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: One start that was the last year against Seattle didn't go well.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: But you look at he actually played a lot more at Chicago.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: He played 74 snaps of Chicago.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: and was awesome, like played very, very well.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: Offets put up 42 points, almost 500 yards, then we gate team plays 42 snaps and was awful.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Offens put up three points.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's not all on Austin Pleasants.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's Trent Williams.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody is.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: But can Austin Pleasants be a guy that could be a team's number three offensive tackle?
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, if there's an injury, he's not a bad number three.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: He really isn't.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: can the 49ers sneak this dude by on the practice squad again, maybe Mike it claimed.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: You just saw one, you're more scared and traded, right?
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm not saying I'd prefer one, you're more over Austin Pleasons, but not by a lot.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: It teams are swapping draft picks form.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anybody would trade for Austin Pleasons, but again, if you're in a pinch at offensive tackle, which I think is one of the worst quality players
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: There's a solid kind of 20 left tackles.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: There's a solid 10 right tackles.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Then after that, and again, there's 64 left and right tackles that start every single Sunday in the NFL.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say there's probably about 40 quality out of 62.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: So once you get outside of that, then it's just man, you kind of pick your poison.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Austin Pleasant, this game take, there's some good game take.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: It is there.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's on a one year one million dollar contract, no guarantees.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's made one point eight million and he's going into his seventh season.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: That is what kind of the roster journeyman practice got a drafted player that has one start in his career.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's what you make, 1.8 million over seven years.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: PFF grades, not great, 58.0 run blocking, not bad.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's not bad.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: 60 is replacement level.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying, like the analytics affirm
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: Austin Pleasants is a replacement level player.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's value in that at the offensive tackle position.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Now 48.7 passblock heavy footage shows.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: He gets a smaller burst edge rusher Seattle got exposed.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Give up one stack, one quarterback hit three heres.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is, you know.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'll I'll say this.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Forster, kid, create these guys and that is a beautiful thing to have on your roster in your coaching staff.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you don't want to rely on these guys last year with the 49ers completely punting on free agency and just say, and we're not signing anybody where they let everybody go.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't have the veteran depth.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Having Austin Pleasant says your offensive
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Shoot, maybe even six behind Brandon Parker.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Zach Thomas.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: But last year he was three.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: That was a problem.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's more appropriately placed.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: It also pleases his a fun player that has Gabe experience now.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: It had could fill in if you need him to, but you don't want him to.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: You really, really don't.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's why also pleases comes
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty excited.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: We had them on the show last year.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: One of the priority free agents last year is jumped 20 spots on the roster countdown.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: But before we get to there, if you got any 40 hours road games this year, come party with us 49ers rushroadtrip.com.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: 49ers rush road trip is going into its sixth year with over 40 events at road games if you are traveling to see the 49ers play this year you got to come party with us and on top of that we give games trivia giveaways we partnered with tick pick this year all you have to do is search 49ers rush on any of the tick pick sights apps you name it and on top of all of that.

- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to build the 49ers community, you're traveling by yourself, we got you covered 49ers
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right, here we go.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, look at this, invader.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: Coming out with the stats, I love it, man.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: Shout it to invader.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: It says the highest graded offensive taco duo in the NFL last year, per PF in, Olin's Impact, metric, Trent Williams, Colton McKivets, Purchroom Media, the $40 book in, allow a combined 7-Sax 64 pressures.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: Colton McKivets has put up three consistent years at right tackle.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Is he on par with Trent?
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: No, nobody is.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: Trent had another all pro year, another pro bull year, he has the most pro bulls of any left tackle ever, and this is somebody that missed multiple seasons with cancer, like incredible, offensive tackle, this room, is crazy man, Trent Williams, cultivate care.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: Vaderian lows not a bad player at all.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: Enrique Cruz, you got to fit around developmental prospect.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: They can so sit and learn and then Austin Pleasants, Brandon Parker, Zach Thomas.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: I remember, Brandon Parker was a three.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: I remember what Austin Pleasants was a three.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now they're fighting for the fifth spot, the veteran depth that has been established.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: At certain positions, like offensive tackle, like defensive tackle, we're going to talk about later in this episode, like corner, which we're about to talk about right now.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: big time different than what we've experienced in the past.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's just different.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: It really, really is.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I love going into this season knowing there's got to be entries.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Every team has them.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: Four dinners have more than most.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: But they're built with veteran depth now.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's huge.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: Big toe, my man, thanks for the super chat, but he says our own shot shot, as the cool little feature of Josh Hawking's Pro Bowl video this week.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the big UFC fight at the White House, which is kind of cool.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Josh Hawking's people reached out to me asking if they could use some of the countdown video we did like, I don't know, three or four years ago with Josh Hawking was on there.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: We did a whole Josh Hawking episode.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so I guess they clipped the, I haven't even seen the promo, I got emailed a waiver and whatever else, which was cool.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know what it was for.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know it was for that event, but whatever, yeah, yeah, it's kind of cool and, you know, shout out to him, finding a way to make a career and do it.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: I said it, then like do is crazy crazy crazy crazy, and capital K crazy.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: And so, yeah, nice.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we could up because like how many people are doing an episode talking about Austin Pleasants in Jalen Strowman and number 66 on our roster count down up 20 spots from last year Jacob Robinson Like like like like like I love it.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: I love this kid He came on the show.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: You can go watch the full interview if you want to just Jacob Robinson 49 is rush and pull up Kids really really cool
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's a project.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's a sticky clever corner with good speed and instincts, but small undersized for sure.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: And tackling the major issue.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: You knew that going into last year.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Put up a lot of good tape, a lot of good practices.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you look at these five 10 180.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: All right, probably going to be a nickel only.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: No, 49ers force him to play outside.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you just look at, you know, he had 118 pre-season snaps last year, Jacob Robinson.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: 31 were in the slot, 57 were out wide.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: The rest were all special teams or, you know, whatever, but Jacob Robinson can cover.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now, 5, 10, 180, 40 hours, don't mind smaller corners on the outside.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: DMO is projected to slot corner.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: Renardo Green was projected to slot corner.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're your starting outside corners.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: Noters don't mind smaller corners.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: They really, really don't.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: They like pesky corners.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: That will tackle.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: Long days have passed since every Thomas who just refused to tackle.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: I tell a witness when he was here, refused to tackle.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now he'd develop physicality eventually still in the NFL.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: But whatever he was here, just look at the ground, dive, see what happens.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: every Thomas you would watch him literally turn around and run in the playoffs and get benched for refusing to tackle on a screenplay embarrassing Jacob Robertson is a problem with him tackling isn't so much lack of effort or lack of enthusiasm or willingness just small and doesn't wrap up well there's some technique issues there but he's got to get
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's got to get better.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's 25 years old and went to Utah State and transferred to BYU.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Puka was one of his best friends.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, on our episode where we were interviewed him, he was talking about, dude, I'll lock Puka up, like I love the confidence.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: Puka's one of the best.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: Jacob Robertson hasn't really made a name for himself yet, born in Utah, went to Orom High School, played three sports in high school football basketball, ran track six siblings, fun kid, fun personality, like the attitude that he brings, like you want DBs with, you know, that kind of dog mentality, like he's got it, he's got it.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: Volunteer huge off-the-field guy tapped his way during his time in high school Really big on giving back to the community and so yeah, you go check out the interview is a lot a lot of fun He was playing really really well consistently.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: He jumped in tape multiple times at training camp Preseason special teams like he just looked at
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: But then he broke his forearm.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: I remember I was there, you know, Shadyhand does a lot of these.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, you just got injured.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: I saw him walk off.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: It was the last series of game three preseason.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like fourth quarter.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like he walks right in front.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was in the lower quarter and so when my man rusty shout out to Rusty.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: And we saw him walk it out like holding his arm.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: Sure enough, he broke his forearm.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: The last series of the preseason.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Not that you ever want anybody in Inter would he have made the 53 probably not if you're out there the last series in game three probably not going to make the roster.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: But what it did was it allowed the contract to toll.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: He gets a little bit of extra money because the entry, the 40 Irish get a stash up for the year now he gets to reset knowing being in that room.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: The DB room being in the film room being out there on the practice field all those different things now Jacob Robinson gets to come in.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: and be like, man, I know what to do.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: I know this drill.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: I know that I know what coach is one.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: Now the DB coaches have changed, safety coaches have changed, where he Morris, Jerry Gray, all that kind of stuff, there's some change back there.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: But the scheme is the scheme and the stuff is about the stuff, you know what I mean?
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I do like this guy.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do just sticky cover guy, but he missed four, he had four missed tackles in the preseason, and they had one tackle.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: you've got to change that if you're going to play corners got to cover first if you can't cover you can't play corner and if you can't tackle you can't play for the 49ers you got to adjust that.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's on a three year $2.9 million deal 120 million guaranteed.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: He made 510,000 last year a lot of that was because the injury and settlement kind of how that goes.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: But they do look at the depth chart again.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: One of the biggest differences between previous years in this year is just depth, the cornerback depth chart.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: And you can move some of these names around.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_01]: Diomedor, the North, Renardo Green, Upton, Steph.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: Fesians, Price, Stock, fourth round, Picks, McRossers, Periods, Nate Hobbs.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: They paid that man.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: Twirl, Looter, Jr., a lot of good tape last year.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Jones, all right, off to field, but no guarantees, Jacob Robertson, Elias.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's nine corners.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's at eight.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: Can he pass Jack Jones?
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: Can he pass Dorell, Luther?
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: Can he pass Nate Hobbs?
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's a rough climb for somebody that man, shout out to Ben.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, he helped with all these.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Robbins has got some baller to him.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: There's, it just, he passes the I test.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: You just watch of it.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, ooh, that dude can cover.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: He really does.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: Paul skills are there.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: 5-10-180, he's got speed 4-3 speed.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's there, Logan.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, late hashtag CC now, man.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Always welcome, appreciate you, Logan.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: Big toe, he says, yeah, you never know there could be some fans that are like, what's the rush podcast and one check it out?
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: Especially after he says some crazy stuff that people want to know more about him.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I want to see this video.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody finds the promo video or what that was on.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Send it to me or tag me or something.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see it.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, hey.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: uh... right here look at chablis me honest any what could pass later to you like uh... and again austin president to rail lunar junior those two got you know off it's tack on a corner when they went with the hell they have a comment they were two of the worst players all the training camp all the preseason terrible
- 35:23[SPEAKER_01]: both played really well in the regular season.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: You can make the argument to our alluded to junior is more consistent than Ronaldo Green.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: I would prefer Ronaldo Green his upsides there, whatever else.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: But like he didn't make as many dumb decisions it had awesome pleasants, terrible preseason, terrible training camp.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: Man, that game against Chicago's note, like that's a lot of good tape.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: 74 snaps, good tape at left tackle.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, Chicago's not.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, for the defense, but they got sweat out there, like he handled his own.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: Derello to Junior put a lot of good tape up on and season not a practice player.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's some guys just aren't like I remember coaching was like this.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like you would go back and you'd be reviewing film with the players and with your coaches like to this guy, he's one of our studs is getting toasted Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and practice like he's just not practice.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: Then you get out to any like man, I can't bench on these one of our best players
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes guys shine when the lights are on.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Some guys just are not practice, you know, you want somebody that's both.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, obviously, you want your Jerry Rises that are out there just cooking everybody, doesn't matter if the lights are on, if it's, you know, just a route on cones or what like, you always want that.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: Not everybody is that.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's real, it's a junior.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that dude missed three training camps and a row.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: But he played well with the game.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's a little bit of a stretch, but much better in game.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: So you have to learn your players.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: You have to and to releard a junior for whatever you want to say, do put up some good quality tape in season.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: Really did.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: When I prefer Jacob Robinson,
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: The ceiling is there, 510 180's rough.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: And it's funny because we're talking about a 510 180 corner.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: Again, sterile loader juniors, the biggest corner in the room.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, not anymore, it features price stock is.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: But like a 61210 guy.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking 30 pound different corner.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: It gets a 510 180 guy.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: Different flavors.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: Same roll.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: And Jacob Robinson brings more versatility.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: He can play in the slot easily.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think Jacob Robinson is more competing with Nate Hobbs and Jack Jones.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the competition, that versatile piece that can play inside outside special teams.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_01]: I like to take a province and man, I really, really, really do.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: Logan, Robinson, a price soccer, two corners.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at closely yet.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's funny they play the same position because they look completely different.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: Once a tear, a dactal and once just a pissed off gerval, right?
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like small, it just, like, that's where it is.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, here we go, the big tone.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: The title of the video is the real Josh Hawke.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'll put this in my notes here.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Just so I could look it up later.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate that.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, go check that out.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody, I think that's what it is.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: In shout out to Big Toon, freaking me in.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Stud, you stud.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we got two more fun players to talk about.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: We are not done.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: Number 65, another player that was on the list last year, one of the biggest drops in the countdown.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Evan Anderson just seemed to be climbing the defensive tackle plugger again all these guys were priority free agents that have carved out pathways and men you look at it in 2024.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: Evan Anderson was the highest priced priority free agent that the four players brought it they paid them the 280 which is the max guaranteed came in made a name for himself started games
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so I assumed he'd take that role, but then he got injured.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_01]: And so we had him number 27.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: He got injured in camp, losses but did not regain.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: kind of his whole like injuries mess you up in big boys.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is 61320 and Evan Anderson, big old boy.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: And whenever he got injured, he didn't come back to the same way.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: They ended up waving him, stuck him on the practice squad.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: And now you look at the 40 hours defense attack room.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: It might be the deepest position on the team.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: Defensive tackle has been an issue for the
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: Defense attack goes to the deepest position and it's ready to talk about corner back.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about wide receiver now.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about offense attack like, you talk about corner back.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: There are deep positions that did not have death before.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: Evan Anderson is a victim of that, but this is a elite plugger, I don't want to say it elite, he's a plugger in the run game that offers insane depth and experience.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: And he's young, he's 24.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: Evan Anderson is the same age as three of the rookies you just drafted.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he's been in the NFL for two years.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: So you get this experience, this is somebody
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's played in 12 games, it was all back in 2024, but it was number 56 in the countdown in 2024 jump to 27 now he's down to 65 and a lot of that is because of all of the draft picks trading for OSA draft need Alfred Collins drafted CJ West drafting.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: Grayson Halton, bringing in two more, uh, priority free agent, defense of tackles, the James Thompson Jr. and Bryson Eason, who I have, Evan Anderson ahead of them, plays a little bit of a different role.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's that plugger.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: Where's Jersey number 58?
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: Florida Atlantic and he, he wore the single digit at Florida Atlantic.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: I remember his tape was fun.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: College tape's good time, man.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, boarded race or land of Florida played offensive line defensive line in high school, Evan did.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, multiple team captain and college.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_01]: You love that.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: You see the energy.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: You see everybody kind of looks to him.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: One of the highest paid undrafted free agents in the 2024 class.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: You got the $280,000 guarantee.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: So this is Chris Cousaric believes in this guy.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: They, he just does.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: played really good.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's tape was consistently good without the explosive plays.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorite things about Evan Anderson is consistency.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a little bit of a coaching qualm for me.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want splash players.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: I want consistent players.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: If you're good one play at bad three plays, that is a great out positive to me.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: And if the defense of tackle, whenever you have the best linebacker in the NFL behind you, your job as a plug or defense of tackle is to consistently set Fred Warner up for success.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: Khalil Davis couldn't do that.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan it.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: Elliott couldn't do that.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're gone.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: You let them walk for free.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: Actually paid them to let them walk.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: this is what I like about Evan Anderson.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have the tackle for losses and all that sacks.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: He ain't gonna have those numbers, but he does his damn job consistently against the double team.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that that is huge.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me, I apologize.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: Now his injury, he had a knee
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: And it just kept bothering and it affected his play.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: I remember I think it was the, was it the Denver joint practices?
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: This dude got steamrolled.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Denver has one of the better offensive lines in the NFL, but you just saw, like they just had their way with them.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was that one.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: might have been one of the preseason games, but Evan Anderson has consistent tape.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that knee contucia is knee was just bad.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: And so you just rescue him for the year, stuck around and he was a fan favorite day one because he was that top-paid priority free agent, um, deer he came out.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: Playing 12 games had one start.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: 34 combined tackles.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: Love that one sack one force fumble one fumble recovery 13 solo runcups.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's what he does Crab case if football That's what Maryland does He's on a one year one million dollar deal no guarantees he made five hundred and ten grand The room is just stacked man
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go through the defensive tackle room.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: Osa, Alfred Collins, CJ West, Grayson Hawn, Sebastian Valdez, Evan Anderson, then you bring into high-priced priority free agents this year too, James Thompson, Jr. Price and Eason.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's eight, that's eight studs, young, oldest guy of the rooms, 28.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: You can't keep them all, Evan Anderson.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: very, very, very fun player that I just think he offers a lot that the 49ers, just value.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: But man, there's a lot of value in that room.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: The cream's got to rise to the top, a macho man can evade Anderson reclaim his role as that 50-fits of tackle.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's a rough room.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: That is a rough, rough room to go up there and get it done.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we got one more.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm excited about number 64.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people aren't going to like this one, but being a Shettyhand Lovesham.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: You want to support local business.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: You want to do what's right from the environment.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: Go to the mattressguysco.com locally owned business.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: Diehard, nine of them that supports the show.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: Supports the 49ers rush road trips.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: He is a legend.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: So if you have a mattress, you want to get rid of.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: You just go to the mattressguysco.com.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: Set an appointment.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: They come pick it up easy peasy.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's just, it's a win-win-win.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: Go to the mattressguysco.com,
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: and do wish right for the environment.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's a win.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right, low kid.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: He says, not gonna lie.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: It might be hard for Evan Anderson to get time with how deep or defensive line looks.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: The defense of town.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt about it.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_01]: There's no doubt about it.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to beat out both the priority free agents this year.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be hard and you've got to close the gap a little bit.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Sebastian Valdez didn't really play the same spot.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you're really compete.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's more than three tech guy.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: You're you're playing the plug-a-roll the one tech, you know, that that's what you James Thompson pricing easing you got to beat out those guys and even if you do that, you know 49ers have kept six defensive tackles
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: But it's going to be hard.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: I see Evan Anderson much more as a cut that you bring back type guy because nobody claimed him last year, but it's a tough room, it's a tough room.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: Logan, off topic.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: Watch out for Grayson Hall and I really like that pick.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was everybody's favorite value pick, right?
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you were really upset with the way the $40 is quote unquote reached or their board set different consensus mock all that kind of stuff.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: Then you love Grace at Haughton because he was projected to go in the third round.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: You got him in the fourth.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: You got argue one of the only value picks the 49ers made.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Grace at Haughton fits.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: But that is a, that's a room that you got to fight for.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: Got to fight for it.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: Number 64.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: Shanna Han loves them.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: Wide receiver, Malik Turner.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: Shanna Han's trust goes very, very far in the wide receiver room.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the 49ers added five new wide receivers this offseason, five, five, including your top trappic, including the top, you know, free agent signing, money-wise, but league Turner.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: Shanna Han trust, special teams, knows all three wide receiver spots and blocks like a madman.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: doesn't bring much of the receiving game, which for receiver that is a problem, but shatterhand trust some of so does Brock Perti and special teams like, you know, you usually every single team has these two to three designated special teams just studs, right, Luke Farrell, um, they're out there.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: Molye Turner's one of those guys.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: He could make it just off special teams alone.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're looking at, Emily Turner, man, number 64, really, and this wide receiver room, you got to change the way you look at it, change the lens.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: Emily Turner could be as make the roster by himself just as a special teamer.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's that consistently good.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the reality of the situation would be, you would cut Emily Turner to a gentleman's agreement with him, he's 30 years old.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's going into his eight season.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: You would bring him back,
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, doesn't make the 53 put them on the practice squad.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: You elevate them for weeks one and two and then you see what happens.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's the type of guy.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're asking to be betting odds, what are the odds, elite turner plays in a 49er's game this year?
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking like, if you're saying 50, 50, I'm taking these play at some point this season for the 49ers.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: You have one or two injuries.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_01]: You put them out there and spend like, he's going to play for the Niners.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just, it's just what happens.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: He wears jersey number 81, but it changes all the time because he's a back-end practice squad type guy that gets elevated.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's 6202.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: He's a big wide receiver 30 years old, played at Illinois.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: He was an all-state selection as a sophomore in junior, led his team to a 14 and old record with state championship, but was another undrafted free agent all the guys we're talking about today.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're like guys who have made it.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: like it.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you understand.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: I hope it's not lost one of you by listening this.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: Malie Turner having an eighth year in the NFL as a priority for agent is badass.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: This is the anomaly.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's made $3.8 million as a special teamer.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: This dude was in the UFL last year.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like he just love the game, man.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_01]: He just out there, he do what he can.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's at NFL, Journeyman has played on 18 to include in the UFL.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: Now Michigan Panthers, that doesn't sound right.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: Spit last year with the UFL and joined the Fort Ares practice squad in August.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: He gets called up, shows up on special teams, blocks his rear end off.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: And if there's an injury at the wide receiver position,
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yo, fill it the blank, dude plays all three spots.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's only three wide receivers in Cheney and offense.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: Place all three of them and special teams and he boxite crazy.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_01]: Boxite crazy.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's just one of those guys that you just know he's got to do what he's supposed to do is he got to bring in a lot of catches and whatever else.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, not at all.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's got 29 receptions in eight years for 114 yards 14 yards per catch pretty good for touchdowns.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's not bad, but 47 games.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's a packet guy, but he's a vet presence guys that you want in the room that pushes the room helps with special teams.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's Malete Turner.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're not, not sexy.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: They played three games for the 40 hours last year.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: mostly on special teams at one target three tackles one year one point two million dollar contract no guarantees three point eight million career it like that the wide receiver room you know it's funny because we're talking corners stacked off into tackle stacked defense of tackle stack it's like that one video where the high school is going through his like
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't had this since 2023 the last two seasons.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: The roster was not like this.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: 2024 and 2025 not like this 2023 was The wide receiver depth chart my Kevin's Ricky Pearsaw Christian Kurt to shot a strictly Georgia walkage to Marcus Robinson Jacob Coward and League Turner Junior Burger Come on Leslie Grimes will pollen Colton Dow like
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: There's just, there's a lot there.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: How in the hell can Malik Turner make it as a wider savory can?
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: Cannot.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_01]: He could sneak in through special teams after getting cut and brought back on gentlemen's agreement the nighters do all the time.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: Will they do that?
- 52:34[SPEAKER_01]: Probably not week one week two ish.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: But if you had asked, will Malik Turner be playing for the red and gold at some point this season?
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: The answer is, yeah, like, specialties, matters, and we turn our matters.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: And shedience, trust matters.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_01]: The shedahan loyalty program is undefeated.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: Shedahan loves this dude.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: Logan, what was appointed draft to junior burglary if we're not gonna play him?
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: There was no point in drafting him.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was a wasted pick because Brent Boyer, you let them have a pick.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: It is Sun's friends with them and Epitism for the win.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: Can't draft a slow returner.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: The new kickoff rules gives a little bit more credence to where it's not just burners as kickoff returners.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: We saw Brian Robinson Jr., like, you know what I mean?
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: The thumper, like you can do that.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: But he's not thumper either.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's small, any slow, can't do that.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll see.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: I was never a junior burgundy guy.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: They're like you've got to have some speed You've got to have some speed as a return or or break tackles.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_01]: You can't I don't know Cause it's yeah, it was a weird one But it's what it is so
- 53:57[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers roster is stacked this year and you look at number 64 elite turner special team stud 65 evidence and plug or defensive tackle 66 Jacob Robinson gosh first utility upside 67 also plays played great last year and 68 chalence strobe and one of your weakest positions kind of the anomaly of today's episode.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_01]: But offer some upside I mean to get a rookie that can
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's a fun group.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_01]: I like this roster.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: Man, this is fun.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this is fun.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you guys.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's glad to be back.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad to be back.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we got a lot more of these to come.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: So we've still got 63 players to count down on these roster.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_01]: So it just gets getting harder and harder, which is always fun.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you all.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: You are the best of the best and until next time, stay strong, faithful.
