- 0:11SPEAKER_02: Keep going, you Yeah, you're so big.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: That's just telling us about his gym programme.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: So I thought I'd let him carry on.
- 0:24SPEAKER_04: Matt he needs more upper body.
- 0:27SPEAKER_04: No, don't I also do a lot of squats and a lot of deadlifts, Matthew?
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: Okay, it's um episode seven, Let's Stick Together, brought to you by Y1 with uh me and the two Lanky men.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: Even though I did actually get called a Lanky bastard last week by Dave Condon because I jabbed the ball off him, which I've never been called before, so is it the three Lanky men now?
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: No, you're not Lanky Phil.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: No, that's good to that's good to do.
- 0:58SPEAKER_04: But you you just because you're uh like small, you're not that tall.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: We for us with our like our length, it we automatically become like lanky, and you because you're like this still fuck up, you become small.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, thank you for clearing that up.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Well, welcome to episode seven.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: I did have a starting point, uh, which was I would like to put out the word to any of our listeners that happen to be people who can make logos because we've had the same logo for about two years, maybe even three years, and we haven't changed it since Yupe joined and basically made the podcast good.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: So is anyone out there that could potentially make us a logo incorporating Yop Yup?
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: That would be much appreciated.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: Did you just say Yop?
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: I would love like a big bottle of yogurt, the Yop yogurt with just our faces on it to work really well.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: We just skip past the fact that you just say Yop.
- 2:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, let's skip past it.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: So is anyone out there?
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: Please, please do like maybe write in or send us send us a version.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, any cartoons or real stuff.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: It'd be cool because we want to change it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: You know, it's definitely not about me and Brendan.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: We all know that.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Um, on to some some news.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: You win this week.
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: Well, also, you've got an article out about yourself, you won against Rotterdam, it's been huge, like it's obviously been a big week for you.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, it was a must-win game, to be honest.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: And um also Rotterdam was missing quite a few players, which like really played into our hands, and we really could not have lost this one, to be honest.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: We we we were way better.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: Uh, again, they missed a few players, a few important players, but then we almost fucked it up by being with 12 on the pitch.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: And then, uh, as you know, the the captain then gets a yellow card.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: Um, so we were like we we made the 1-0, we got in, we got complete control of the game, and then all of a sudden the referee uh who was actually quite decent, I have to give it to him.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: Uh, all of a sudden, uh, they like said, uh, Captain of Ray wrote, come here.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you were 12 on the pitch.
- 3:25SPEAKER_04: So I was counting, I counted 11.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, somebody of us already ran into the bench, but he noticed.
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: Um, and actually, you know what happened?
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm 99.9% sure that they they don't listen to the podcast.
- 3:38SPEAKER_04: But a couple of girls from Rotterdam, the first team of Rotterdam uh ladies, they actually snitched.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, not cool.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Snitches get stitches, man.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: That's prison rules, mate.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: That's not life rules.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's life rules.
- 3:53SPEAKER_04: So I don't know if they listen, but fuck you.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Um and Brendan, did you win as well?
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, really exciting.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: 1-0, genuinely even game with a team that shouldn't be even game against.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, not great from us.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: But a win.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: So hey ho, you take them when you get them.
- 4:10SPEAKER_04: I I get a feeling that every week it's like an even game, which shouldn't be an even game with you guys.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: Look, we've not played as well as we'd want to, but the important thing is, you, is we've kept more clean sheets this year than we've kept in the past five seasons.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: So that says a lot about how good our defense has been.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and who's playing defense at Serviton right now?
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: You're welcome.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: I'll be honest with you, it's not my it's not my fault.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: It's the fact that we've got a really, really good keeper.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: It's nothing to do with me.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, Mazza, right?
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: Huh?
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Mazza.
- 4:44SPEAKER_04: Mazza.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, good.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Mazzarello, Mozzarella.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: Phil, win for the weekend as well.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, we won 6-1.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: It wasn't that exciting.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: Um we should have won, and we did win, and it was it was okay.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: I don't want to go into too much.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: I did want to touch on the fact that Yupe uh has a has a big time article about him.
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: If anyone doesn't know about it, go on to hockey.nl and you can read about Yupe's recent escapades, as in what he did and how he's looking to get back into the Dutch teams.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: Nice read, especially when you translate it to English, because it always just seems so much more like brash and in your face.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: I quite like that.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, really agreed.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: Also, the real good is when it's a rogue translation and there's a word in there that shouldn't be in there, but always seems to appear.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Um, I do have one thing from the weekend that I do need to raise.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: We spoke about it a while ago about training, going to training with um other clubs' kit and going to training with other nations' kit.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: We had a situation on the weekend where one of our players was wearing the kit, he was wearing the socks underneath his own socks of the team we were playing against because he used to play there.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: So we had two pairs of socks on, and underneath was Redding kit, match kit, and then obviously he would have his socks, but the opposition sideline noticed and he got hurled a lot of shit at, which I thought was very apt.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: But I was like, I'm not sure that's okay to wear other teams' kit when you're playing against them as well.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: I don't think it's okay to wear other teams' kit either way, like if you play full line notes, you're not going to wear any other kit.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: I I think if you wear like so, for example, like if you if you played in Germany and then came back to OR, and I know you guys training kit like this, I think in England it's not really a thing.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: If you were to wear another team's kit from a different league, that's a different thing.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Whereas if you're wearing the same kit from a team that plays in the same league as you, I think that's quite weird.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: No, not the same league.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: That's that's bullshit.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: That's shit.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: I think it's highly unacceptable.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what's his name?
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: Louis Louis Gittens.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was a tough, it was a tough day for him.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: He got a lot of shit.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Dick of the day for it as well.
- 7:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and Louie.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: Sounds shit already.
- 7:04SPEAKER_04: That's a dick move.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: Also, Brent Brendan, you text um me and Amesy straight after your game, as you often do.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: He's quite a needy man on a on a weekend.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: He texts me and Amesy something.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Just see how you boys got on.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: And and this week's this what was this week's text, Brennan?
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Uh, so two weeks ago I got booed for 35 minutes by the Reading crowd.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: This week I got told I was a shit Liam Sanford for 35 minutes.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Uh wasn't wasn't my most enjoyable game, I'll be honest with you, because every time I got the ball, I got ooos and I got ways if I didn't do anything good.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: So it wasn't the most enjoyable game.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: In fact, but it was like is the definition of I got really fucked off with it, but actually, I really appreciated the fact that there was a crowd there that was quite pissed and gave a lot of shit out.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: So, like, it's the it's the classic, like, I kind of wish it wasn't me that was getting shit, but at the same time, I'm glad somebody was getting shit because then it proves that people still enjoy watching hockey, so that's good.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: The shit Liam Server, I think that's a great, like, that's not not that it's not that it's a correct one, but it it is kind of it makes you think a little bit.
- 8:10SPEAKER_04: It's really good.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: I'll be honest, you it hurt, it hurt quite a lot because it was every single time there was a bit of silence, just one random person would just shout it, and I was like, Oh, that hurts.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: Do you get do you get a bit of chat on the weekend, you do you get anything hurled at you occasionally if you're playing away?
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: You seem like again, like the lanky guy at the back, people could could yell some abuse at.
- 8:35SPEAKER_04: And first of all, I don't really know how to like that.
- 8:39SPEAKER_04: You think that I'm an easy target makes me question um myself a little bit.
- 8:44SPEAKER_04: It doesn't happen too often.
- 8:46SPEAKER_04: Like, um, you with your shitty headband should get all the shit in the world, and like yeah, exactly, Brendan.
- 8:54SPEAKER_04: Doesn't wear his headband that often these days?
- 8:56SPEAKER_04: No, he's a bit insecure about it, I've noticed.
- 8:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but um let's go on.
- 9:00SPEAKER_04: Plus plus I don't get a lot of shit to be honest.
- 9:03SPEAKER_04: I think um uh and even yeah, come at me, give me some shit.
- 9:09SPEAKER_04: Does does anyone with as soon as they fire me?
- 9:12SPEAKER_04: I'll backfire with ASAP.
- 9:14SPEAKER_04: Does anyone I can I can fire back like a motherfucker?
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: Because I mean the the best bit of chat I've got this this year was at Serbiton when I was unhappy with the umpire and I was I was having a go at him, and then someone from the crowd yelled, why don't you put it on your podcast, you nob.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Yeah, fair enough.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: I was like, That's pretty good.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: So I quite enjoyed that.
- 9:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but I would just I would just I don't think it would like get to me, if you know what I mean.
- 9:44SPEAKER_04: I think if someone shouted, say it on your podcast, I think it would be fucking hilarious.
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: I think I wouldn't like keep a straight face.
- 9:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: I gave I gave him a thumbs up, it instantly took me out of my bad mood.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: I gave him a thumbs up.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: Is a thumbs up sarcastic or is it like meant?
- 9:57SPEAKER_03: I mean it was like that Steve Stifler out of American Pie thumbs up.
- 10:01SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:03SPEAKER_04: I I I had one time, I did get shit one time, but it was like we played Cassette away.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: I think it was last year when you were there, Phil.
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: And uh we played Cassette away, and uh we had a uh penalty corner.
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: I'm yeah, I had to inject, but I always put the ball a little bit in front of the line.
- 10:21SPEAKER_04: I don't know why it's like a superstition, like close to line, but like not really on.
- 10:25SPEAKER_04: So then a couple of like 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds were shouting through the rant, it's not on the line, it's not on the line.
- 10:31SPEAKER_04: And I said, I said like I didn't I reacted like from my gut, so I said, Hey, shut the fuck up.
- 10:36SPEAKER_04: It was like that.
- 10:37SPEAKER_04: I looked around, it was like 12-year-olds, and then they were like shouting at me, oh, oh, oh, look at you! Oh, you're so tough.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: So then I injected and we scored the goal, and then I turned around and I was cheering at them at like 12 years old.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: So I I was just saying, I don't really people don't really get to me, but a bunch of 12-year-olds from Cassette got to me, so yeah, that says a lot about me.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: Um, other news about my um I got told the other night at training that some of the Holcomb boys had seen some of the Oxted uh players this week, and I'm in some trouble apparently, and maybe Brendan is.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: I haven't decided about that one yet.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: Because of my rant about them beating us and having nice chicken, I don't really remember what else I said, but apparently I've got a target on my back now for next year.
- 11:28SPEAKER_04: So they said something about their mums and stuff, I don't really know.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: So yeah, so um that's exciting.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm glad to say we're we're getting getting some headspace in in some to other teams.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm sure if Campong were listening to you, it'd be the same for you.
- 11:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't think they're listening, but hey, again, if they are, come at me.
- 11:52SPEAKER_04: I don't give a shit.
- 11:53SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm in the gym a lot, so yeah, bring it.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: Um, other other news.
- 12:00SPEAKER_04: So I've got you know what I've learned in the end.
- 12:02SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry to interrupt you.
- 12:03SPEAKER_04: Know what I've learned in the end?
- 12:04SPEAKER_04: Like, um, everybody is like, and I already said this once, everybody in hockey can act all tough and shit.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: And that's why I feel always feel free to say anything I want because no one does anything.
- 12:16SPEAKER_04: We're a bunch of hockey players, no one's gonna hit someone, no one is gonna on the field gonna do something.
- 12:21SPEAKER_04: So, yeah, like let's be honest.
- 12:24SPEAKER_04: As soon as you see like a like like on the field and it starts to escalate, like the the closest thing I've like I've experienced with like a fight or anything was when we played Amsterdam last year with Sanderbacht body checked Ten Rolf into like the like the red card uh thing, which wasn't which they didn't give a red card for, but other than that, I always see people like going up to each other and like being biggy big, but yeah, come at me, whatever.
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: No one is coming at you, no one is gonna punch.
- 12:52SPEAKER_04: Everyone's a bitch on a hockey pitch, let's be honest.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: So, what you're saying is is that you want to take a more rugby stance on this.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: And if you're gonna give it out, like lamp someone, is that what you're saying?
- 13:03SPEAKER_04: No, I just I'm just saying that everyone on the hockey pitch is is including myself.
- 13:08SPEAKER_04: Let's like let's be.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: I sometimes also act act tough, but I'm I'm never gonna hit someone or gonna square up to someone, look at me, but like look at everyone else as well.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's fair enough.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Brendan, you want to weigh in on that?
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Or you no, I'm I I'm in complete agreement.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: You can say whatever you want on a hockey pitch, nothing ever gets done from it, so there's no point worrying about it.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: Um, I think if someone even like faked a punch, I think that'd be all hell would break loose, but no one's even interested in doing that.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: It's just ask the it's all fart no poo, is the best way to describe it.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: Well, let's ask the listeners have you what's the worst thing you've seen in a hockey game?
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: Can it can it can it escalate?
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Are we are we are we wrong about this?
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: I did love the video.
- 13:52SPEAKER_04: Uh I think Shona sent, or did you send it in with the guy who threw the hockey ball away?
- 13:58SPEAKER_04: That's fucking gold, man.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: That's that's my my favorite video I've seen I've like I've seen come up in a while.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: So that was Ames he sent a video into our like our WhatsApp group this this week.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: Um the best friends group, right?
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: Brooklyn's versus um Nottingham Uni, I think, or XT uni last week.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: Uh the Brooklyn's players who are already relegated or who are struggling.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: Um apparently he the guy had completely lost his rag.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: He fell over, there was some kind of scuffle.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: He picked up the ball because he didn't want to take a quick free hit, and then just decided to I'll explain it properly.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: I'll explain it properly.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Xtra on a counter-attack, the Brooklyn's guy long barriered, so stopped the ball with his leg, knew it was a corner, picked up the ball, and to and basically just chucked it over the fence because he knew it was a corner already, so he just chucked it over the fence in sheer frustration.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Then there was no card given, he ran down the corner and they got and they come away with a draw, which was massive for Brooklyn's basically to get an I think their third point of the season or second point, but it's so good the whole like passage of play.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: In fact, can we put that on?
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: Is that allowed?
- 15:05SPEAKER_04: Well, we should we should put on.
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: But my question was immediately do you guys have uh like um I don't know if it's the correct English, but like ball boys and girls?
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: Well, that's the that's the funny thing, is that everyone has to have ball boys, so that will have made little to no difference him throwing the ball over the fence.
- 15:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's just sassy.
- 15:22SPEAKER_04: I think that's what I really enjoy about it.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: It's just really sassy.
- 15:25SPEAKER_04: It would have been so much better if there weren't any like ball boys girls and he had to go over the fence himself to get the ball.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: So to move it on a little bit, we've had we've had a fair few retirements in the past uh past week or two.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: Most most notably is is Maddie Hinch, who is Brendan's better half, um, has has recently hung up her gloves.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: Let's go with it.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: Internationally, yeah.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: Internationally hung up her gloves.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: Um there was an outpouring of love for her.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: Uh Brendan, you got you know, you got mentioned, which I mean is is is pretty huge.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: You Brendan was tough, he had a tough week this week.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: It was an emotional time for him.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Um what have you got to say about it?
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: How do you feel?
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Um, I think the outpouring of love is just I think it's uh as personalities go within the hockey world, and especially in the UK, I don't think there's been many bigger.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I think it's I I think it is big for the sport, and I think also we should recognise as well, similar to when Kate retired and like when Barry retired, I think it's one of the names that you kind of you recognise and should really appreciate actually how much they've done for the sport.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: So I think from that point of view, I think it's been really good for hockey to be in the papers or to definitely be on the news for us for a start.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Um so I think it's really good.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: Um what was cool is they've they've actually made a big deal of it, and I love the fact that like yeah, BB hockey, England hockey, you know, the news, the BBC News had a thing, they've done some really awesome posts um and social media about it, and it's obviously how much of an impact she's had on the on the sport.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: Um rightfully so.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: Like, to be honest, she is by far my favorite goalie, male or female, that has ever lived.
- 17:18SPEAKER_04: And that was before I knew you were together, Brendan.
- 17:24SPEAKER_04: I think she deserves now in in all I think she did she deserves all her flowers, like let me objectively, she was Olympic champion with a team.
- 17:35SPEAKER_04: I think how do I put this nicely?
- 17:39SPEAKER_04: Um, wasn't expected to win Olympic gold.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: Did I say that correct?
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's that's fair.
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: I think the Dutch, like every tournament, the Dutch are the main favourite, and she actually was one of the main reasons they actually won it.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: So I think every everyone who wins Olympic gold should at least like get like the this is like the absolute benchmark for how they should celebrate some retirement of that like caliber.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: I think that's like I think it's one of them, like similar to the other retirements that have come recently, like you don't necessarily appreciate how much of an impact they've made until you actually see one the accolades that they've actually they've actually achieved, but also the way they've gone about it, and I think that's what's probably most impressive is the combo of the two for Maddy and others.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: Like it that's that for me is kind of when you really do sit down, take a step back, and actually just appreciate how much they've done for the sport, not just for the country and not just for hockey in the UK, but for the hockey in general.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: I think that makes such a difference.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: So so this brings me nicely on.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: So there's a couple of other retirements, especially in in Holland.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: Um Yelle Hallimer has hung up his stick.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: Um, what's wrong, you smiling?
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: Can you pronounce his name one more time?
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: No, no, yellow.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: You played with him, mate.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, bro.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: I don't say his surname every day, bro.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Gnarly, bro.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: Um, Brendan's had a beer, if anyone's wondering why he's actually talking this week.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: No, an apple cider.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: Sorry, an apple cider.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: Next one.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: Um, Tim Swan.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: Can you say Swan?
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Is that is that right or not?
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: Tim Schvan.
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: Yes, Tim Schvan.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: Ridiculous.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: And then lastly, uh, there's one of the Dutch female players, Laura Laureen Lurink.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: Lurink.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Lurink, right.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: And this this brings me nicely on.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: She's she's um also retired.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: Now Aranya Hockey, also, who we've already given a lot of love to, they did this amazing post about like the stats of Laura Lurink, um, and like how they explained how she did it.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: So I wanted to kind of bring this up.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: Hockey really isn't big for stats, is it?
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: And I thought it was incredible how this post came out, and I'll just give you an example of what they said.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: It's um she's assisted 43 goals to her teammates more than anyone else since 2015.
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: It comes up with a list of who she's assisted to and who she's assisted most to.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: She's won 10 trophies.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: Her first international was against this team, last international was against this team.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: She's been directly involved in 72 goals, she's played 115 matches.
- 20:23SPEAKER_03: Um it's just like I thought it was really, really cool how they were managed to put all of that together.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: Again, her favourite victims in in Holland in the the Aranya hockey's words, so how many goals and assists she scored against each separate country.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: And I was like, wouldn't people be is are people interested in that stuff?
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: Because I thought it was really cool.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: Um, and we just don't have enough of it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: Like England hockey at the moment, the most we have for the Premier League is the top five scorers and the top five clean sheets.
- 20:57SPEAKER_03: Literally, I don't think you can access anything else.
- 21:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there is this.
- 21:01SPEAKER_04: I I completely agree, I think it's really cool.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: Also, like assists in football are like a big thing, and hockey, I think no one even mentions mentions assists a lot.
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: Um, but we have this guy at uh at the Dutch Federation, or I don't think he's from the Dutch Federation, but his name is Ramon Min.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: And what he does is he checks every stat of every game.
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: So he uh does like assists, goals, goal shots, like every it's his job, and he also does it for the football squad, I believe, or he does something for the football squad.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: He's like really a stats man, so like um he knows everyone who scored a goal, but also Hofklas, so he knows everyone, so that's why you always see the fifth five hundred fifth hundred, five, fifth hundred like the five hundredth goal of someone or whatever.
- 21:51SPEAKER_04: Like he always keeps stats, so he actually does this on his own, and he like I think he he spreads the news towards Oranio Hockey, hockey.nl stuff.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: But actually, I want to because I think that it's Laurine Luring.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: And she actually like she is like um I do think she's just she's she's a pretty special player because she is like a really atypical um player, she's not known for her speed or whatever, but she's really known as a distributor.
- 22:17SPEAKER_04: I don't think you have a lot of those in modern hockey who just not known for their goals but like plays as a striker or like a number 10 and always delivers, always looks for the extra pass, and is like a really uh smart player.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: So and she actually, yeah, as you said, she really contributed uh to the Dutch team a lot, and also one like every other Dutch female international, won everything there is to win at least once.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: So I think it's one of them that like she's one of those names that kind of has been around for ages, but you wouldn't necessarily have noticed much.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: But I think it's one of them that when you've played with her, you really do appreciate what she brings to the table.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I think that kind of like those players kind of go massively underrated in the world of hockey.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: But as you as you say, you like she's atypical.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: Like I think that's what's really quite interesting, is the fact that I wouldn't have said she'd have had as much of an impact as she has done, but then you see the stats, which links to Ropes' point of like, actually, it's really cool to see the stats to see how much of an impact they actually have on games and like seasons and this, that, and the other.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Like, it's actually really cool to see how much of an impact she's made and how much of a bit of a legend she is within Dutch hockey, but you wouldn't have necessarily seen it from the outside until you see all these stats and kind of the impact she's had.
- 23:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and I think it's it is pretty hard to like stand out within the Dutch national team, uh, a Dutch female national team.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: I think there's there's so many good players, and I think uh hence the difference between them and other countries is I think the weaker players in the Dutch team, like and then relatively relatively, yeah, relatively weak players uh are still elite.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: Uh so it's pretty hard to like stand out within that squad.
- 24:00SPEAKER_04: But also, I want to like I think those are always the coolest players, and I like you, you it's like the underrated players which are which afterwards in like an aftermath, people say those were really good, like like an Ames, Lurink, players who aren't who don't stand out as much.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: But when people talk about you like fuck he was so good, but he never noticed.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: I think those are like the really cool plaol players to play with.
- 24:24SPEAKER_04: I think Sonderbaat is also pretty similar.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: I don't think a lot of people will remember Sander Baat as like uh he was like he was a lead, but how good he really was until you've played with him, or like Ames, or I think we all know a couple, but I think those are really cool always.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: I think it's just an interesting conversation because we just have so I guess it's the people like you talked about, this guy who does it for Aranya, like we we just don't have enough of them to be keeping the stats.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: I know in England we have the hockey museum who I think have done some great work with you know what number we all got presented with these Great Britain caps, which just says which number of which like where you um let me try and explain this the number the light that so the number the number of that you get is the number given to you when you made your first camp cap.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: How many so for example, like if ropes' was 200, he's the 200th person to have made that debut.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: So I was the 200th, or say I was 200, I would be the 200th player to ever play for Great Britain men's hockey, which I know they do in cricket and stuff, so I know the hockey museum have done some really good work on that.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: It'd just be cool, I think, and people would be intrigued.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: I think, correct me if I'm wrong, about seeing stuff more about stats in hockey.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: Um and people keep a track on that type of stuff.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: Um, a couple of other bits of news.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: What's really cool is uh I think in Germany, I know we don't talk about Germany a great deal, but there's a streaming platform called DIN or DIN secured the rights to show Germany's top league from the 23-24 season.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: Um they've inked a deal to show over 200 men's and women's games, includes like season-ending finals.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be uh on the back of obviously them winning the World Cup, they're gonna get more exposure, which I just thought was cool to point out that like we need this type of thing, we need a streaming service probably for most leagues.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: I know that the Dutch have already got it, I think the Belgians might have it, but again, it's just like doing the stuff that I think hockey probably needs.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: I think that's really really cool because it's for Germany as well, for a team that's been so far and so high up in terms of the rankings, this, that, and the other.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: It's nice to see it actually turning into something more productive rather than just necessarily being a great league.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: But now it's now on full show, which I think is really cool.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: It's also cool that all the guys uh who won the World Cup like a lot got like um got like um how do you say it celebrated when they got like a like a celebration in the football stadiums, like one was at Münchengladbach, which is like a pretty big team, one was at Dortmund, I believe, or at Mainz, I don't really know.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: But like some pretty yeah, pretty big clubs who are actually like uh reaching out and like celebrate and rightfully so celebrating uh their players becoming world champion, which doesn't happen too often.
- 27:15SPEAKER_04: So that's pretty cool.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, really cool.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: And the last bit of last bit of news, I think before we take a break, I just wanted to bring up a conversation that my uh manager at Holcomb messaged me this week.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: He said, Is it kind of acceptable, or what do you think of the pricing at the Lee Valley for the Pro League this year?
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: And I wanted to bring this up with Yupe because I don't actually know how much people play to watch the pro league in Holland, but one of the top seats costs£61 and it's like£180 for a family of four to come and watch at Lee Valley this year.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: You like I know that you know watching a top sporting event in England, firstly, is expensive, and and I think if you go and watch football match, rugby match, um you know, tennis, cricket, I know it's a it's an expensive day out.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: When we're in competition with them teams, is that too much or is that fair enough?
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: And what do the Dutch do?
- 28:09SPEAKER_04: Uh I gotta be honest, I have no clue how much the Dutch prizes, but I cannot imagine it being 61 uh Euros, and I think pounds is even more, so it would be like 70 euros.
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: Uh, but I cannot imagine it being that expensive.
- 28:22SPEAKER_04: I think it's like 20, 20 quid, 20 euros to look to watch uh watch a project match in Holland.
- 28:28SPEAKER_04: But I think that's a lot.
- 28:28SPEAKER_04: If you want to grow the game, I think it's like what's the what's the it's 30 euros?
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's 30 euros.
- 28:36SPEAKER_04: I think that's still pretty it's a pretty decent.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I like what is your intention as like GB hockey?
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Do you want to like grow the game or do you want to like get money out of it?
- 28:48SPEAKER_04: If you want to grow the game, I think it should be a little bit more of an of like a like like a like an easy price, because it's it's twice the amount of money to watch in England than it is to watch in Holland.
- 28:59SPEAKER_04: And it's not even I think the pounds is is worth more than euros.
- 29:03SPEAKER_04: So it's like I don't believe that's the way to grow the game, to be honest.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: Well, is it the chicken and the egg as well?
- 29:08SPEAKER_03: Because there's quite a nice it's like a 6,000 seat stadium in Lee Valley at the moment, and I think if you if you want to sell them out, are you more likely to sell more tickets if they're cheaper?
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: Well, I would probably say yes, you would be.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: So I'm sure there's a lot of like thought going into it, and maybe they're in competition, maybe more with other sports in England rather than with sports in in you know the hockey in different countries, but seems a bit overpriced to me.
- 29:34SPEAKER_04: And don't really think it's a chicken in the egg, to be honest, Phil, because if you make it cheaper, more people will come.
- 29:40SPEAKER_04: I don't think there's really a chicken or egg, just lower the prices and people will come.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm I'm with you on it.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: Like I think surely you create more demand.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: So you sure expect it.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: Brennan, I think he was just taking the piss then, mate.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: You don't have to like yeah, cool.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: Right, and lastly, E.E.
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: Bickers got in touch and said blue or green pitches.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: Let's finish off that.
- 30:07SPEAKER_03: It doesn't really come across the news.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: But what do you prefer?
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: A blue pitch or a green pitch?
- 30:12SPEAKER_04: Green every day of the week.
- 30:14SPEAKER_04: I could not give less of a shit what color the pitch is.
- 30:21SPEAKER_04: Like, there's not there's not a lot of things in life I care less about than on what color pitch I play on.
- 30:30SPEAKER_04: Green you grow up.
- 30:31SPEAKER_04: I hope that's an a good answer for you.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: E because there's your answer.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: We're gonna be back in a second.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: So we've we've clearly got an avid listener who is clearly a burner account because uh the frisky sausage in his own words has had his ears to the ground and um he's been hearing some stuff to get across to us, so he wants us to bring it up.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: First of all, he heard Ames was going to Beaston next year.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: What do you think the truth in that is?
- 31:07SPEAKER_04: I I've heard he's coming to a renewing road.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: You've heard it here first.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: Everybody's wrong.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: He's not leaving mega bucks, is he?
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: He's not leaving.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: Oh, he gets a shitload of money there, right?
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Phil actually gets all the money and then Phil pays Ames.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: That's the problem.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: They go as a pair.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: No, he's my driver.
- 31:26SPEAKER_04: Do you think Phil is overpaid or underpaid?
- 31:29SPEAKER_04: And by the way, frisky suschets, is that like a burner account to your dick, Brandon, or what is it?
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: No, that'd be frisky chipolata.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was gonna say, let's look, don't give me too much credit.
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: On a serious, serious point, ropes has got a genuine driver to Holcomb.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: How much of a joke is that?
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: You he's got a driver that gets paid to drive him.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: As in Ames?
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:51SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, okay.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: But Ames to Beaston.
- 31:55SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't I don't know for me.
- 31:57SPEAKER_04: I think Ames is still waiting for the uh head coach job of Orange Road to open and then to apply and come to Holland back to reunite with his best friend in the whole wide world, Yubb de Mole.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: Before that final bit, I genuinely think that's not a bad shout for what could happen in the future, but not the end bit.
- 32:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think so too.
- 32:19SPEAKER_04: Let's let's just start with him as an assistant coach, because I'm also open to that.
- 32:24SPEAKER_04: I like that.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: James, let me know.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: I'll put in a word for you.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: I know you listen to this religiously.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Well, the frisky sausage is he's also started some other stuff.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: He says your aerials in England should be banned until the umpires actually know how to umpire that rule, so just get rid of them.
- 32:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, then just get rid of the aerial ball as a whole and never let it come back because they'll never know.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: It's the yeah, it will never change.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no comment.
- 32:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I do comment.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: Rep referees don't know how to whistle, and they know never will, so just accept it and move on with your life.
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: Frisky sausage.
- 33:02SPEAKER_04: I'm pleading the fifth, like you always do.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: You bitch.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Come on Phil, it's not wrong.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: He actually also heard that Matt Guys Brown, who plays for Hampstead and uh South Africa, is um returning for injury to play for the Hampstead 2s this weekend.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: Um, so he thought that was quite funny that he could one of the best flickers in the world is gonna kill someone in the London League.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: Is that is that acceptable?
- 33:31SPEAKER_04: What?
- 33:32SPEAKER_04: Who's the best flicker in the world?
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: No, one of the best flickers in the world.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: Who guys brown plays for South Africa?
- 33:41SPEAKER_04: Okay, he's one of the best flickers in the world.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: I'd I'd put him up there.
- 33:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you also put Kane Russell in the top five of best flickers, so I wouldn't trust trust your word, even I still stand by that.
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: No, you cannot still stand by that.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: Come on, it's not worth getting into discussion now.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: You we could have a long chat about it, but it's not worth it now.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: Okay, okay.
- 34:05SPEAKER_04: Matt, Matt GB, gonna play for twos.
- 34:08SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah.
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: I just uh nah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_04: I think I never I never heard of him to be honest.
- 34:14SPEAKER_04: That's maybe my fault, maybe, but like I never heard of him.
- 34:18SPEAKER_04: How can how can he be like the top flicker in the world if if if you're many fingers on the pulse, mate?
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: You're just so big time, you're just not really bothered, right?
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if he's not in the Hoof de Class, uh who really gives a shit?
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: That's basically your philosophy on life.
- 34:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and in my defense, I think it is a pretty valid, uh, pretty valid assumption.
- 34:39SPEAKER_04: Name name name name one player who's outside of the Hoof class or hasn't played Hooflass in his career, that is actually a big deal.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: This guy, right here.
- 34:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, point point made by me.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: Well, I I well, my weigh in on that is you you're being a yeah, maybe this is something you need to look into.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: Matt Guys Brown is actually a a a top top class flicker.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: And if I was in the London League playing recreationally, I'd be shitting my pants.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: He's not someone I want to see flick a ball at me.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: That is for absolute certain.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Especially when you've got no gloves, no box, and no knee pads, no chance now.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: No I believe I believe you guys.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: I'm really sorry, Matt.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: You met guys brown, and I didn't know you knew you.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: Now I do met guys brown, top flicker in the world.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: Let's get it.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: Um, his last his last message to us was uh rumors are that Calnan's gonna leave world hockey to follow his dream of being a rock star.
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: No is is that actually a rumor?
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: Or uh he we watched Calnan's second ever gig on Friday night with his band, the French Dogs.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Um I thought they were pretty I actually thought they were pretty good.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: I actually thought they were pretty good.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: I was genuinely pleasantly surprised.
- 36:01SPEAKER_04: Are we gonna are we gonna skip past the fact that you just uh roofed after naming his band the French Dogs?
- 36:11SPEAKER_04: Or is is it the genuinely the name of his band?
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's genuinely the name of his band.
- 36:15SPEAKER_04: Well, I like Elden.
- 36:18SPEAKER_04: I really like because I like if shit out is and stuff.
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: But if you're gonna name your band the French Dogs, I will put a lot of money on that for to never really take off.
- 36:30SPEAKER_04: I also heard an I also heard a piece of news.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: I heard Alison Annan is gonna take the OG's job.
- 36:35SPEAKER_04: Is that true?
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: The frisky sausage also thought this was true.
- 36:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I just heard it in the hallways that that that like Brennan's dick tweeted that uh send us an email that like uh I am not the frisky sausage.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Can we just clarify something here, please?
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: Um I I I genuinely think it could be.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: It could be.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Uh it could be Danny, Danny Kerry could get it potentially.
- 37:02SPEAKER_03: He's just just lost, just left his job that he's just got in Canada to come and coach OGs.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, because Alison Allen wants to move from China all the way across, doesn't she?
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: No good one.
- 37:16SPEAKER_04: I've heard Graham read as well.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: Left his job in India because he wanted to work in Weybridge.
- 37:27SPEAKER_04: I've heard Ames is going there.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Now that is tell you what, Ames the Beast and isn't on, but Ames to Weybridge, Aids and OGs.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: My lovely listeners.
- 37:42SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: A 20 second Creed Challenge.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Oh god.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: We haven't had any feedback, so I'm taking it as it went okay.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: So, Brendan, are you ready?
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: The history of Y1 hockey goes.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: Oh Jesus.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: Two mates met a extra university and started in the uh onesie industry.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Um progressed through universities selling onesies to then now into clothes and then eventually moved into hockey, and it's now their main source of business, I believe.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: It's hockey, isn't it?
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: So they now manufacture loads of hockey sticks, uh, clubs, chimpads, etc.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: I thought it was quite good that, apart from the mumble at the end.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: I didn't realise I had as much time to play with.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: You well, if I knew they started out selling onesies, I never would have signed.
- 38:37SPEAKER_04: Let's just make that clear.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: They were massive in like the uni.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, right for at uni, they were huge with onsies at uni.
- 38:44SPEAKER_04: Chris, I really like you.
- 38:47SPEAKER_04: Congrats on on your kit, by the way.
- 38:49SPEAKER_04: And I really like you.
- 38:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but you didn't tell me the full story.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna demand my contract.
- 38:57SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna demand more money.
- 38:59SPEAKER_04: Next one, Phil.
- 39:00SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: The TV show The American Office.
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: Go.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Oh, Jesus.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, Michael Scott owns a paper company.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: Um doesn't own it, sorry, he's one of the like branch managers.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Below him is just a complete catastrophe of people um that he tries to sell paper, leaves his job, but comes back because he's actually the worst slash best manager ever.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: Um, best at TV shows.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: Brendan, stop, stop.
- 39:26SPEAKER_03: That was terrible.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: You you I'm gonna give you a go of this.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: How do you explain that in 20 seconds?
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: Sorry, how do you explain that in 20 seconds?
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: Shut up, shut up.
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: It's the TV show, The American Office.
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: You go.
- 39:39SPEAKER_04: It's about Dunner Mifflin, the paper company, to which Michael Scott is the regional manager with assistance to the regional manager Dwight.
- 39:48SPEAKER_04: Uh, there's a lot of people working in Q because it's your your everyday paper company, and they have a shitload of adventures.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, fine, that was much better.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Okay, whatever.
- 40:02SPEAKER_04: Well done, you brandon.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: Whatever, Brendan.
- 40:05SPEAKER_04: I just outbested you in my first try.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, whatever.
- 40:08SPEAKER_04: Bitch.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's a reason you don't get the 20 seconds segment.
- 40:12unknown: Right.
- 40:15SPEAKER_04: You should say that with all the experience in your life, you would know how to like make the best out of 20 seconds, Brendan.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Not on.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Not on.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Right, Brendan.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: Your last go, the penalty corner.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: Oh Jesus.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: Um awarded for feet slash stickslash any foul inside the circle or outside, pending severity.
- 40:39SPEAKER_02: Um ball has to be injected, trapped outside the D, and then a shot on goal.
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: If it's a hit, it's gotta be below backboard, otherwise drag flick above or below, or on.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: Done.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Stop.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Now you didn't say anything about defenders, but okay, that was quite good.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: I didn't even think about.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: Oh well.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: No defenders.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: Tell you what, my 20-second version would be much better.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: No, no defenders, that's it.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: You just gotta try and score a goal.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't know.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: I don't haven't done this in a while, but this episode has gone down the pan.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: So we'll move on to shit'll hit.
- 41:19SPEAKER_03: I think we've got a second burner account because you've baby girl has written in with a hot take and a shit'll hit.
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: You know you've made it as a podcast phenomenon slash superstar slash legend in the biz when you've got you's baby girl as a side account.
- 41:37SPEAKER_04: Like, let's just take a second to realize what was yeah, Brendan.
- 41:40SPEAKER_04: Yours is frisky sausage.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: We just took that.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: That's Brendan.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: Right, okay.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: So he or she asks doing a walkthrough, the coach has just explained, is that a shit or a hit?
- 41:56SPEAKER_03: So a walkthrough means the coach has just explained a drill at training, and then you have to actually do like put people in their places and actually walk the drill through because people don't understand it.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: Is that a shit or a hit?
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: Hit, definite hit, great one, fucking hit.
- 42:13SPEAKER_04: I never know the exercise until I've seen it.
- 42:17SPEAKER_04: Coaches are so fucking chaotic, like 90% of the time.
- 42:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, just go to there, do a little this, do a little that, pass it to his back end, pass it with your back end, pass it through your forehead.
- 42:27SPEAKER_04: I never know what the fuck is going on, and then I see it and I think, oh, that's what you said.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Also, maybe 90% of the time I'm not really paying attention and thinking about my golf swing.
- 42:37SPEAKER_04: So that also might have to do with it.
- 42:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, you're just a visual learner.
- 42:42SPEAKER_04: Let's keep it at that.
- 42:43SPEAKER_04: I'm a visual learner, Brendan.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: I'm really enjoying the fact that you've called all coaches chaotic.
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: I really enjoy that.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: Uh same as you.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: I sometimes I really do struggle to understand what the coach is asking for, so I'm gonna go hit as well.
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: I'm not a fan of it, but there's some times where I really struggle.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: So no, I like to I even if I I really don't like it because even if I don't know what I'm doing, I often just gamble and I don't want to walk through.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: I get annoyed with people like you, you, to be honest with you.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: It's like, oh, can we can we see it in action first?
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: It's like just get on with it, lads.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: We'll work it out.
- 43:20SPEAKER_04: You know what also like a second point to this is always I really like it, is when you come in in the huddle and someone is always like talking, and 90% of the time someone is actually saying, Okay, guys, we start with the ball, like at the beginning of the game, or guys, they have the ball.
- 43:36SPEAKER_04: There's always three or four people ask, Are we taking the ball or do they have the ball?
- 43:42SPEAKER_04: You just know it always confirms that you can say whatever the fuck you want because no one really listens in the huddle.
- 43:48SPEAKER_04: I don't think it's more about the tone of your voice than it actually is what you're saying.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: This was a good one.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: We had this the other week, actually, where where it was like you're trying to really work it out, and I think it was Calend.
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: I'm not confused.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Completely sure, but we just talked for like five minutes in Huddle about this zonal press.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: We're gonna play this zonal press.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: We went through all this detail about the zonal press, and then we walked out.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: And Kyle was like, We in zonal man to man, yes, and I was like, For fuck's sake, Kyle.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: I get real satisfaction from it, right?
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Also, you're baby girl.
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: He had a hot take, or she had a hot take.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: Spain are gonna be a top three team in the next five years.
- 44:32SPEAKER_04: I do really like the direction Spain went in the last um last year.
- 44:38SPEAKER_04: I think uh Max Caldos is doing a really good job there.
- 44:42SPEAKER_04: As you see, they're like trending a bit, they're beating Australia, beating Argentina.
- 44:46SPEAKER_04: They play solid hockey, they had a pretty decent World Cup.
- 44:50SPEAKER_04: So I like the way they're going, but it's yeah, it's a case of can they keep it up?
- 44:54SPEAKER_04: But I think they have potential to be a top three team.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: I think Australia and Belgium are still top two or top three, uh, but they're like, I don't see them getting a lot better.
- 45:06SPEAKER_04: I think Spain is like really getting uh getting better every year, so could be.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: I think I think this is the definition of like a it's it's too hot a take.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: It's like oh they've won a couple of games like in the pro league.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: I think it's just like the classic what they do in football, where if a team does well or one player does well and their value goes up crazy amounts when actually like I just don't believe that they've done it in any form of consistency or level yet to start talking about the top three team in the world.
- 45:35SPEAKER_03: Aren't they ranked like eighth or ninth at the moment?
- 45:39SPEAKER_03: In the next five years.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just I'm just saying my feeling of it.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's five years, though.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not like it's next year.
- 45:46SPEAKER_04: I know, but they're like a really young team.
- 45:47SPEAKER_04: They've like, I think there's like they're one of the youngest teams right now, and they're performing pretty solid.
- 45:53SPEAKER_04: I think they'll only get better, and they already like make it tough on a couple of good teams.
- 45:58SPEAKER_04: Like, hey Phil, I respect your opinion, but I I uh politely say um I don't fucking agree with you.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, fair.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: The next shit will hit Josh Pinnard wrote in to say, I think we've kind of covered this, but we haven't.
- 46:12SPEAKER_03: He said, like, when players turn up to training wearing their like county kit um to show off that they've just got into county.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: So I assume this is like a kind of a uh when you're coaching a junior team and they just wear their like uh county or regional or kit to show off that they've got into it.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: You looks confused.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: County kit.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you don't do that, do you?
- 46:37SPEAKER_03: It'd be the equivalent of bra band.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, okay.
- 46:42SPEAKER_04: So like your province, or like, and you've made to your province team.
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, that's not on.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: You don't know how much I panic now when I have to say Dutch words, it terrifies me.
- 46:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, and you should be because I'm fucking sharp on it.
- 46:56SPEAKER_04: But uh, yeah, kids stay humble, always works.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: Stay humble, and life will figure itself out.
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: That's some advice from Uncle Yuke.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it was budget.
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: Agreed, agreed.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: It's it's the equivalent of players flexing, and it's not it's not acceptable.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: Um we had a couple more short hits.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: I had one, and again, it's it's we're quite we're quite olli pain heavy in this podcast, but he started doing this thing, and you know how we don't like keepers on this podcast.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: He started doing this thing when you're like having a random shot in training, not in a drill, where he'll he'll jump and guess a side, and if you've tried to hit it in the bottom corner and he's jumped and guessed it, he just like kicks it away with real ease.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: And I've thought that's a real douche move.
- 47:45SPEAKER_04: I think that's not I like it.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm I'm with you.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: I think that's such a hit.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: That's such a hit because it gets in your head and it clearly lives there rent-free.
- 47:55SPEAKER_04: Maybe it's talking, yeah.
- 47:57SPEAKER_04: But it's fucking good, it's like ultimate shithy, especially with your shot, Phil.
- 48:02SPEAKER_04: You already have a tough time scoring, and now you already like makes you like that's good.
- 48:07SPEAKER_04: I like it.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: Bam and Black does it also at corner training sometimes.
- 48:10SPEAKER_04: He just stands in the corner and people still flick it in the corner, and he's like, Hey, you see, I knew it.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, now you say it, I like it more when it's not me.
- 48:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I like it.
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: Well done, Pay now.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I like that.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: Okay, um, I mean, so one of you two have wrote these ones.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: So Stranger Things, is that a shit or a hit?
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: Who's wrote this?
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I had a couple.
- 48:33SPEAKER_04: I just wanted to also branch out a little bit and go outside of like I had a couple hockey ones as well, but I just wanted to like branch out a bit.
- 48:39SPEAKER_04: Like Stranger Things, Netflix.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: Is it a shit or hit?
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: I've never seen it.
- 48:46SPEAKER_04: No, so me neither, and it doesn't really like attract me or anything.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: No, it's um it seems really you haven't watched it.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: I've watched it, it's a hit, it's really good.
- 48:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, just because you think it's a hit, it doesn't mean it's a hit.
- 49:01SPEAKER_04: I like I I never watched it.
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: I think so.
- 49:05SPEAKER_04: Maybe I cannot judge, but I will judge.
- 49:07SPEAKER_04: I think it's it's a really unpopular opinion, but it seems a shit.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: Again, you've just answered it yourself.
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: You haven't watched it.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: So if you watch it and you come back next week and you say it's shit, I'll be with you.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: I'll say okay, well, you have your opinion.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: But you can't sit here and go.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: This podcast is not based on like uh well, well, well rounded uh facts, it's based on like sheer opinions with without real knowledge.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: So I think it's shit.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: Well, we're getting to really dangerous territory where you're acting incredibly like it doesn't you've point is the fact that we haven't it doesn't interest us to watch it.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: So when everyone's going on about it, I I get what everyone's saying.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: Like it might be really good, but it just doesn't interest me.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: So I can't give it a shit or a hit.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: I've got to go for I've got to go for shit over hit because I've just not watched it.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: But it was a in the same sentence, I can't give it a shit or a hit.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna go.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I've got to go, but you can't, there's no there's no middle ground, is there for shit or hit?
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: You have to go one or the other, so I've got to go shit.
- 50:09SPEAKER_04: I've never I've never ate shit, but I know it tastes shit.
- 50:15SPEAKER_04: You just know sometimes, Phil.
- 50:17SPEAKER_04: You two description.
- 50:20SPEAKER_04: Next one, next one re-gripping your stick.
- 50:26SPEAKER_04: So it's a bit of a personal, but I fucking hate it.
- 50:28SPEAKER_04: I fucking hate doing it.
- 50:29SPEAKER_04: I fucking hate a new grip.
- 50:31SPEAKER_04: I'm really I'm probably really on my own here, but I hate a new grip.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do as well.
- 50:35SPEAKER_03: I'm with you.
- 50:36SPEAKER_04: I like the old crunchy ones, like Brendan's tau in the corner of his room.
- 50:40SPEAKER_04: I like it when it's like a bit old as shit.
- 50:46SPEAKER_04: Okay, next one.
- 50:47SPEAKER_04: This this one is actually Olympic rings uh tattoo, like the Olympic rings as a tattoo.
- 50:53SPEAKER_04: Shadow hit.
- 50:54SPEAKER_04: Does Mary have one, Brendan?
- 50:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she does.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: I I I like them, but I've not but I've not got one, but I think I would get one post-career.
- 51:07SPEAKER_04: Let's be honest, Brendan.
- 51:09SPEAKER_04: You have the same problem as me.
- 51:11SPEAKER_04: You don't have space on anywhere on your body to put it other than your torso.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: So I also I also don't think I'm cool enough to have one.
- 51:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's also my problem.
- 51:22SPEAKER_02: It's a real issue for me, whereas I think they do look good on certain people.
- 51:25SPEAKER_04: I I see Thomas Brills with like his look like biceps the side of a bowling ball, and then it looks pretty cool to have like an Olympic tattoo.
- 51:33SPEAKER_04: But they have my lengthy arms, like doesn't work.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: If you'd get it anywhere, where would you get it?
- 51:40SPEAKER_04: Oh, good question.
- 51:42SPEAKER_04: I think yeah, I like the bicep one, but it's a bit like a lot of guys already have it there.
- 51:48SPEAKER_04: Maybe I'd go neck, Olympian, like right here, on the ear down.
- 51:57SPEAKER_04: No regrets, yeah, yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: Nice, nice, nice.
- 51:59SPEAKER_03: Why don't you get it on your forehead as well?
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: Maybe that might work.
- 52:03SPEAKER_02: Why'd you have to be so rude?
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: Okay, fuck you, Phil.
- 52:07SPEAKER_04: Next one.
- 52:08SPEAKER_04: Um pineapple on pizza, shit or hit.
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: Hit.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: I like the tanginess of it.
- 52:17SPEAKER_04: I knew I knew you would say hit.
- 52:21SPEAKER_04: Phil, it's shit, right?
- 52:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, it's shit.
- 52:25SPEAKER_04: Phil, we there's still good people in this world.
- 52:28SPEAKER_04: No, Brendan.
- 52:28SPEAKER_04: Pineapple on pizza is like that's terrible.
- 52:32SPEAKER_04: Says a lot about you.
- 52:33unknown: Let's go.
- 52:34SPEAKER_04: Let's go to the sayings, Phil.
- 52:36SPEAKER_04: What about you wrote one more?
- 52:38SPEAKER_04: You said Red Bull sponsoring on stick.
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, I like that.
- 52:41SPEAKER_04: I think that's really cool.
- 52:42SPEAKER_04: I think that's a real hit.
- 52:44SPEAKER_04: I couldn't like uh no chance in hell.
- 52:47SPEAKER_04: I sponsor Red Bull, they don't sponsor me, I sponsor them.
- 52:50SPEAKER_04: I drink a lot of Red Bull, but I think that looks sick, like the like uh Van Doren has, and I think Many had uh or still has like the Red Bull helmet.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: I think it looks cool, I think it's sick.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: If there was one brand you could get sponsored by, who would you want?
- 53:03SPEAKER_02: Like, is in like a Red Bull, for example, is one of them kind of cool brands where you're like this is this is really cool, like Monster.
- 53:09SPEAKER_02: Like, would there be a certain brand that you'd like to get sponsored by?
- 53:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, tight list.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Fair.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 53:15SPEAKER_02: That's a very good shout.
- 53:16SPEAKER_03: Ferrari, then you get the horses on your stick.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's cool.
- 53:22SPEAKER_04: I'd go for tight list, or like maybe the obvious one is like Nike.
- 53:26SPEAKER_04: I think that would be fucking sick, like a Nike deal.
- 53:29SPEAKER_04: Signature signature shoe with no one buys the GDM23.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: Right, last couple of things this week.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Some English sayings that I wrote down for you this week to see if he can decipher.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: And I have some Dutch ones.
- 53:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you do have some Dutch ones.
- 53:47SPEAKER_03: Well, but that'll be for the end.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: Um, Bob's your uncle.
- 53:52SPEAKER_04: No, he's not.
- 53:56SPEAKER_04: Is this is this really a saying?
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is, yeah.
- 54:00SPEAKER_04: Bob's your uncle.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: Bob's your uncle.
- 54:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's shoot me.
- 54:06SPEAKER_04: Uh no, no clue.
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: Brendan.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: Isn't it like there you go?
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: Like there you go.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: There you go, that's it.
- 54:14SPEAKER_02: Type thing.
- 54:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it means I think it means like correct or like there you go.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: If you do something, it's like Bob's your uncle, there you go, done.
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 54:26SPEAKER_04: Never heard of it.
- 54:28SPEAKER_04: Bob's your uncle.
- 54:29SPEAKER_03: Okay chin wag.
- 54:33SPEAKER_03: Chin wag.
- 54:35SPEAKER_03: Chin wag.
