Latest / Michelle Explains Anime, Poorly / Banana Fish Ep. 24- The Catcher in the Rye
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, Michelle. I guess back again with
- 0:04Speaker 1: the last anime episode of Banana Fish. Yay. Before we start,
- 0:10Speaker 1: just the heads up, I am not feeling well. I
- 0:14Speaker 1: maybe am allergic to some sort of food that has
- 0:17Speaker 1: made me throw up. Yay, so I'm gonna do my best.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm really unhappy about this, but I'm also unhappy about
- 0:26Speaker 1: this episode, so we might as well cry over that
- 0:29Speaker 1: and not over my personal problems. Yeah, so let's just
- 0:33Speaker 1: get into it because I have twenty five pages of
- 0:36Speaker 1: notes to get through with you guys, so I assume
- 0:39Speaker 1: this is gonna be like super super long, so apologies
- 0:43Speaker 1: in advance for that.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So episode twenty four is called The Catcher and the
- 0:48Speaker 1: Rye and that is, you know, also a novel by JD.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Salinger about a kid who is just not doing too well.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Like I I read Catcher in the Rye before, but
- 1:02Speaker 1: like I don't really remember it because I was in
- 1:04Speaker 1: high school and I'm not like a super good reader,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and I don't even know if I read the whole thing,
- 1:09Speaker 1: like I did not like reading in school. But I
- 1:12Speaker 1: remember liking this book and I was reading the description
- 1:15Speaker 1: of it on Wikipedia and then on readit, and yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I don't remember any of that. And I'm not going
- 1:22Speaker 1: to go into details about what The Catcher and the
- 1:24Speaker 1: Rise about because it's not a podcast about JD. Salinger novels.
- 1:28Speaker 1: But it does have some relevance to this story. I mean,
- 1:36Speaker 1: not a ton, but it's one of the first episodes
- 1:40Speaker 1: titles that I've been like, huh, okay, I could see
- 1:43Speaker 1: where that would that would be kind of similar. But
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm not going to say anything else because again, don't
- 1:48Speaker 1: really remember it. I just know Holden Caufield was the
- 1:51Speaker 1: main character, and apparently he was in New York because
- 1:54Speaker 1: he didn't want to go home because he got kicked
- 1:56Speaker 1: out of school and so he's like just in New
- 1:59Speaker 1: York City, just like totally alone and depressed, and it's
- 2:04Speaker 1: kind of the end of his innocence and that kind
- 2:06Speaker 1: of stuff. And yeah, that's enough, but I don't know.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Sounds like it's kind of in the same lane. But anyway,
- 2:12Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about that. I don't want
- 2:15Speaker 1: to get off track. We don't have time, So let's
- 2:17Speaker 1: talk about episode twenty four. If you remember, at the
- 2:21Speaker 1: end of the last episode, fucking Golzing was shot in
- 2:25Speaker 1: the chest and he was falling because Fox shot him.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So we start off this episode kind of with a
- 2:30Speaker 1: small recap of that scene where Golzine is shot again
- 2:35Speaker 1: and he's falling in Ash gasps, and then like a
- 2:40Speaker 1: bunch of gates around the windows come down and separate
- 2:44Speaker 1: him from the gang members outside. I'm pretty sure in
- 2:48Speaker 1: the manga like people actually get like killed by these gates,
- 2:51Speaker 1: but I could be thinking of another part. And also
- 2:55Speaker 1: in at least the aired version of the anime, they
- 2:58Speaker 1: didn't lower all of the gates. There was a weird problem.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think that a lot of this episode and episode
- 3:04Speaker 1: twenty three and twenty two, I noticed like tons of
- 3:08Speaker 1: errors in them in the animation, which makes me think
- 3:12Speaker 1: that they were just running out of time. And I
- 3:14Speaker 1: know some of those were corrected on the Blu ray
- 3:16Speaker 1: because I've seen them corrected, but I haven't checked this
- 3:18Speaker 1: one in particular because I didn't. So anyway, gates have
- 3:25Speaker 1: come down over the windows and doors, so all of
- 3:27Speaker 1: the gang members are stuck outside with Ash and Goalzin
- 3:31Speaker 1: and Fox and friends inside. Anyway, Fox Chuckles and some
- 3:37Speaker 1: of the gang guys are like knocking on the gates
- 3:40Speaker 1: like trying to get in and one guy's like open
- 3:42Speaker 1: up and then they just get shot because there's a
- 3:46Speaker 1: lot of mercenaries out there, and now they are under attack.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So we just lost all of the advantage that we
- 3:53Speaker 1: had going into this. So they're under tremendous gunfire and
- 3:57Speaker 1: Kane is like, we're surrounded, and Singh says, we can't
- 4:00Speaker 1: take cover. Yeah, they don't have anywhere to run. Blanca
- 4:03Speaker 1: throws a smoke bomb or flash bomb or something bomb
- 4:08Speaker 1: and then is like go now, and they all start
- 4:10Speaker 1: to run for it. Back inside, Ash is now on
- 4:13Speaker 1: his knees with his hands tied behind his back, and
- 4:18Speaker 1: you know, a bunch of those mercenary dudes like pointing
- 4:20Speaker 1: their guns at him, and Fox says, we're even now.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You took me by surprise, but this must have been
- 4:26Speaker 1: surprising for you as well. Ash looks pretty pissed. Fox
- 4:30Speaker 1: kneels down in front of him. You must hate how
- 4:33Speaker 1: things turned out. Michere Dino we see is still alive,
- 4:37Speaker 1: but he's laying on his stomach and he like does
- 4:39Speaker 1: not look good because he's been shot a couple of
- 4:40Speaker 1: times and he's like sweating, and Fox says, he's mine
- 4:43Speaker 1: now the foundation and that drug too he lifts Ash's
- 4:47Speaker 1: chin to meet his gaze. Please stop doing that, and says,
- 4:50Speaker 1: come with me. At this, Ash spits in his face.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Fuck yeah, Fox is you know, caught off guard by
- 4:57Speaker 1: getting spit at it. But then he pistol whips Ash
- 4:59Speaker 1: in the face and Ash falls to the floor. Fox
- 5:03Speaker 1: smashes at. Fox smashes Ash's head into the ground with
- 5:06Speaker 1: his boots, and then to Goldzeine says, you were so
- 5:10Speaker 1: smitten by this beautiful monster that you lost it, But
- 5:15Speaker 1: not me. I'll tame him and control him. Leave him alone,
- 5:18Speaker 1: he's a human. Fox still has his boot on ashes
- 5:21Speaker 1: face and we can see the ashes bleeding from his
- 5:23Speaker 1: mouth or lip or wherever. And Dino somehow gets the
- 5:28Speaker 1: wherewithal the talk and he says, do you realize who
- 5:31Speaker 1: you're facing? You overestimate your capacity? You pour faust, which
- 5:36Speaker 1: I had to look up to see what Foust meant
- 5:38Speaker 1: because I'm not very smart. Apparently it's the protagonist of
- 5:42Speaker 1: some German legend and it's basically sacrificing your spiritual values
- 5:46Speaker 1: for power, knowledge or material gain. I guess whatever doesn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: matter anyway. Then we hear Mannerheim like gasp, and he's
- 5:54Speaker 1: like mo sure, and we see that he's holding a
- 5:57Speaker 1: case and he looks really, really frightened. Fox is like,
- 6:01Speaker 1: Maschuur is retiring, ash Lynx is going to be the
- 6:04Speaker 1: next president, and I will back him up. But he
- 6:06Speaker 1: is still stepping on ashes head, so it doesn't really
- 6:09Speaker 1: look like ash is gonna be the president of anything.
- 6:13Speaker 1: He continues, I'll guarantee you the exact same position. Mannorheim,
- 6:18Speaker 1: to his credit, looks kind of pissed off. Then we
- 6:21Speaker 1: see two guys kind of leading Ash off, like holding
- 6:24Speaker 1: him up. He may have been knocked out. I'm not sure,
- 6:27Speaker 1: and Fox says, sedate him just in case. Then he
- 6:30Speaker 1: looks back at Diino. Time for you to finally get
- 6:32Speaker 1: some rest, mesure. Dino looks pretty pissed off, but also
- 6:36Speaker 1: he's in a puddle of his own blood. And then
- 6:38Speaker 1: we go to the opening for the last time. No,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I don't want to do it for the last time.
- 6:47Speaker 1: At the very end of the opening, I just wanted
- 6:49Speaker 1: to point out there was a caption or whatever that
- 6:54Speaker 1: said in memory of Unsho Ishazuka, and I had to
- 6:58Speaker 1: look up who the hell that was. That's Dino's voice actor.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I guess he died that's really sad. It looked like
- 7:06Speaker 1: he died kind of in the summer of twenty eighteen,
- 7:09Speaker 1: So unless I'm totally misunderstanding the timeline here, that would
- 7:14Speaker 1: have meant that he died before this aired. Maybe they
- 7:17Speaker 1: had all the voice acting done pretty far in advance.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I don't know, guys, something like that, but that's pretty sad.
- 7:24Speaker 1: He was a pretty well known voice actor, I guess. Anyway,
- 7:28Speaker 1: back from the opening, we are outside of the mental
- 7:31Speaker 1: health institute and some of the gang dudes, including Kine
- 7:35Speaker 1: and Sing and Alex are firing like around a corner
- 7:39Speaker 1: and then one guy gets shot and Sing is like, damn.
- 7:42Speaker 1: At this point, they found another entry into the building
- 7:45Speaker 1: and Blanca runs up and he takes out some of
- 7:46Speaker 1: the guys and he starts to move forward, and he says,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you guys, rescue the hostages. Once you have them, just go,
- 7:53Speaker 1: don't worry about us, and Kane says, what about you.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Blanca is like, I'm going to get ash yeah, and
- 8:00Speaker 1: he smiles he hasn't paid me yet, and then he's
- 8:03Speaker 1: like go and he runs off, and Sing looks pretty stunned,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I guess, and Kin says, Sing, come on, let's go.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Sing kind of snaps out of it and then looks
- 8:13Speaker 1: really determined and he's like, Kan, I'm leaving them to you,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and he runs after Blanca and Kin is like, what hey,
- 8:21Speaker 1: we owe to where Blanca is. He's like looking around
- 8:23Speaker 1: a corner and he sees some of the mercenary guys
- 8:27Speaker 1: and he comes out and he starts shooting, and then
- 8:30Speaker 1: Sing like appears next to him out of nowhere and
- 8:32Speaker 1: starts shooting as well, and they take them all out,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and Blanca is like totally confused, and Sing says, I
- 8:37Speaker 1: won't get in your way. Blanca smiles and he's like
- 8:39Speaker 1: I know, yay, and they head forward past the dead
- 8:44Speaker 1: guys that they just killed. We go to Fox and
- 8:47Speaker 1: Friends in the control room and Fox says, is this
- 8:50Speaker 1: all the data you have? Mannorheim's like yeah. Mannerheim goes
- 8:54Speaker 1: to lift up the case with the data. It's like
- 8:56Speaker 1: a little suitcase, little like hard shell suit case, so
- 9:00Speaker 1: it looks like it's metal, you know, silvery that kind
- 9:03Speaker 1: of thing. So anyway, Mannerheim goes to lift it up
- 9:06Speaker 1: and Fox puts his foot on it and he says,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I'll hold on to this. You go to the helicopter
- 9:13Speaker 1: Mannerheim looks pretty frustrated, but he walks away because he's smart.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And Fox to one of the guys, says, how's Team Alpha.
- 9:22Speaker 1: The guy's like just about ready, Fox says, And Team Bravo.
- 9:27Speaker 1: The guy's like preparing to blast the center. Uh oh,
- 9:30Speaker 1: they're gonna blow it up. Fox is like, okay, get
- 9:33Speaker 1: them to hurry. We're heading to the hangar in thirty minutes.
- 9:36Speaker 1: This place will be a sea of fire. We then
- 9:39Speaker 1: go to what I assume is the hangar and there's
- 9:41Speaker 1: a helicopter in it and someone is securing sedated Ash
- 9:46Speaker 1: into one of the seats, like putting him in a
- 9:48Speaker 1: seat belt, which is very nice, I guess otherwise he
- 9:50Speaker 1: just kind of flop around, so he needs to be
- 9:52Speaker 1: seat belted, and he is it seems passed out. Once
- 9:56Speaker 1: you're done, joined Team Bravo. The first guy's like, got it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He makes sure things are secure and then he walks off.
- 10:03Speaker 2: We pan in to.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Ash's face and he opens his eyes yay, and he
- 10:09Speaker 1: looks pissed. We then cut to a blueprint on a
- 10:13Speaker 1: phone screen and Blanca says, is that the blueprint? Yes,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it is Blanca sing is the one who's showing it
- 10:19Speaker 1: to him on his phone, and he says yeah. Blanca
- 10:21Speaker 1: takes the phone and continues to look at it and
- 10:24Speaker 1: Sing says, Ash didn't tell you anything. Blanc is like,
- 10:28Speaker 1: he just asked me to back you guys up so
- 10:29Speaker 1: you could get out safely. Sings like he never intended
- 10:33Speaker 1: to survive, and Blanca says it's a smart choice, no
- 10:37Speaker 1: need for everyone to die, so we just gonna kill
- 10:39Speaker 1: Ash now. Anyway, Sing says, is your being here a
- 10:43Speaker 1: smart choice too? He kind of smirks. Blanca is like,
- 10:47Speaker 1: look who's talking. There's kind of a pause while Blanche
- 10:51Speaker 1: is still looking at the phone, and then he says,
- 10:54Speaker 1: this top area is structured differently and sings like huh,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and he tries to look at the phone, but Blanc
- 11:00Speaker 1: is so tall that he can't, so Blanca leans down
- 11:03Speaker 1: to show him and says, my guess is that it's
- 11:07Speaker 1: a hangar. They figured it out in the manga. I
- 11:11Speaker 1: believe he has to explain to Sing what a hangar is,
- 11:14Speaker 1: which I thought was cute, but we lost it.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 11:16Speaker 1: We go to an elevator, doors open and some guys
- 11:21Speaker 1: and Mannerheim and Fox get out. They're walking down a
- 11:24Speaker 1: hallway and the guy at the front like raises his
- 11:27Speaker 1: fist to like stop them, and then they go into
- 11:30Speaker 1: the hangar and everyone's dead except for Ash because he's
- 11:33Speaker 1: just not there. Mannheim's like, no anesthetized person should be
- 11:37Speaker 1: able to do this. Fox is like he's no normal
- 11:40Speaker 1: person and he grits his teeth. This area is completely
- 11:43Speaker 1: locked down. He's got to be on this floor.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Find him.
- 11:46Speaker 1: We cut to Ash, who is kneeling down somewhere dark,
- 11:49Speaker 1: holding a gun. His breathing is labored and he's sweating.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I'm sure that even though the drug didn't make him sleep,
- 11:56Speaker 1: it makes him feel pretty bad. So that's not good
- 12:00Speaker 1: if he's trying to escape. Next we see Age, who
- 12:05Speaker 1: is on the phone in the hospital, like he's in
- 12:07Speaker 1: his hospital bed, and he says, don't worry mom. He
- 12:11Speaker 1: looks really sad. I know I'm coming home. Oh, and
- 12:15Speaker 1: then he hangs up Shunichi. Charlie and Jenkins are there too,
- 12:20Speaker 1: and Ag says, I don't know where Ash went. Charlie's like,
- 12:24Speaker 1: that's not why we're here. We just we're worried about you.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Ag isn't really looking at them, and he says, sorry,
- 12:33Speaker 1: I just don't know what got into me. He puts
- 12:35Speaker 1: his hand on his head and he just looked so hurt,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and he says, I'm just so confused. Jenkin's like, I
- 12:44Speaker 1: hear you. Goldine's club, Codd'll be investigated tomorrow. Why wait, guys,
- 12:49Speaker 1: Charlie's like, thanks to Max, we have proof. Ag looks
- 12:53Speaker 1: surprised and he says, will Ash be in trouble? Oh? Ag?
- 12:58Speaker 1: Jenkins is like, he he's a victim in this case.
- 13:01Speaker 1: So we were actually hoping to hear his side of
- 13:02Speaker 1: the story. Oh, I want to point out right here
- 13:05Speaker 1: because it's important, not really that important. So in the
- 13:07Speaker 1: anime we don't get an explanation of, like any more
- 13:10Speaker 1: of what happened to Ag in the hospital or what
- 13:12Speaker 1: he told police or any of that. In the manga,
- 13:16Speaker 1: he has told them that he was mugged like and
- 13:19Speaker 1: shots and I had nothing to do with Ash or
- 13:21Speaker 1: any of that stuff because he didn't want him to
- 13:24Speaker 1: be involved. And everyone kind of knows that that's not
- 13:27Speaker 1: what happened, but he's like, adamant, that's what happened.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Anyway. We cut to.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Ag alone in the hospital bed. It's evening and the
- 13:36Speaker 1: room is dark and he's looking out the window and
- 13:39Speaker 1: he looks real worried, and he thinks, Ash, where have
- 13:43Speaker 1: you gone? Are you leaving me again? Oh? My god,
- 13:47Speaker 1: Ag going somewhere far away Without a single word. We
- 13:51Speaker 1: see the moon is full and it's like peeking out
- 13:53Speaker 1: behind some clouds, and we get a close up on
- 13:56Speaker 1: AG's eyes. Anythinks you said Sionada. He closes his eyes
- 14:03Speaker 1: that word I should have never taught it to you
- 14:06Speaker 1: for real. We cut back to Ash. He's breathing hard.
- 14:13Speaker 1: He takes a deep breath, and he gets moving again
- 14:15Speaker 1: as some dudes start to pursue him. Next, we see
- 14:19Speaker 1: Blanca and Sing standing in front of a door at
- 14:21Speaker 1: the end of a hallway, and Blanca is like, it's
- 14:23Speaker 1: no use, it's locked. He points to like an air
- 14:26Speaker 1: HVAC register, like it's kind of half on the wall
- 14:29Speaker 1: and half on the ceiling and says, let's go up
- 14:32Speaker 1: to the roof through that air duct and find a
- 14:34Speaker 1: way in. As we've talked about in the past, that
- 14:37Speaker 1: may or may not be possible, but it's going to
- 14:39Speaker 1: be loud, and I also learned that it's going to
- 14:42Speaker 1: be really dirty because unless it's a new building, which
- 14:45Speaker 1: it actually is, so maybe it won't be dirty. Air
- 14:48Speaker 1: ducts are filthy anyway. Blanca smiles, I hope you're not claustrophobic.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Sings like, nah, but can you even fit through that duct?
- 14:57Speaker 1: He winks. Now in the controller, a bunch of guys
- 15:01Speaker 1: are looking at computers and the first guy says, sir,
- 15:04Speaker 1: the hatch won't open the entire system. Stop. Responding, Fox
- 15:07Speaker 1: is like what. The guy continues, someone mess with the
- 15:11Speaker 1: main system's code ash. Fox says, you mean LINX, that's
- 15:15Speaker 1: what I said.
- 15:17Speaker 2: No, he couldn't have.
- 15:19Speaker 1: He gasps and thinks that bastard's still alive. Oh. We
- 15:25Speaker 1: cut to a trail of blood on the floor leading
- 15:28Speaker 1: to Goals and as he stands at like one of
- 15:31Speaker 1: those desks with the walls of computers in a control room,
- 15:35Speaker 1: he is breathing hard, but he's fucking with the codes.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I guess yes, awesome.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm confused. Who do I root for.
- 15:43Speaker 1: We go back to Sing, who is crawling in event,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and we hear like a slam, and then we hear
- 15:49Speaker 1: Blanca say ow.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Sing looks back.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And Blanca is like, barely fitting through this duct, and
- 15:55Speaker 1: Sing is like, oh, come on, Blanca lets out kind
- 15:59Speaker 1: of an embarrassed chuckle back to Fox, who he is
- 16:02Speaker 1: on like a I don't know, like a bluetooth earpiece phone.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I think, I don't really know. It's like an ear
- 16:08Speaker 1: piece thing in his ear. That's where your pieces go,
- 16:12Speaker 1: he says, emergency situation, Send Moonwalk over pronto. Mannerheim walks
- 16:17Speaker 1: over and says, haven't you found him yet?
- 16:20Speaker 2: He hates me. He'll kill me if he finds me.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I hope. So your a piece of shit anyway, Fox says,
- 16:27Speaker 1: don't worry, we're looking for him. Mannerheim is basically hugging
- 16:31Speaker 1: him at this point, and he's like please, and Fox
- 16:33Speaker 1: pushes him off and says take him to the heliport.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Two guys lead the terrified looking Mannerheim off, and Fox
- 16:41Speaker 1: says that coward he really is. Then one of the
- 16:46Speaker 1: guys is like, sir, Moonwalk will arrive in twenty minutes.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Fox says, that'll be tight. Hurry up, especially if the
- 16:53Speaker 1: place is gonna blow up in a half hour or
- 16:55Speaker 1: probably a little bit less than that. Now, Yeah, you
- 16:56Speaker 1: guys got to move on it. We go to a
- 16:58Speaker 1: hallway where came Alex and some other gang members are
- 17:02Speaker 1: having a shootout with some mercenaries. Cain says, if we
- 17:05Speaker 1: give up now, none of us are getting out of
- 17:07Speaker 1: here alive. We then cut to that area where everyone
- 17:10Speaker 1: is being held and stuff and Bones is looking through
- 17:13Speaker 1: like the window in the door, and everyone can hear
- 17:17Speaker 1: the gunfire now, so we know that they are very
- 17:19Speaker 1: close to where the gang people are being held. Max
- 17:23Speaker 1: is also looking out and he says, don't die on us.
- 17:27Speaker 1: We cut back to Cain and Alex and some guys
- 17:29Speaker 1: and they're like shooting at a bunch of mercenaries. Still.
- 17:32Speaker 1: As this is happening, Cain looks back and sees a
- 17:34Speaker 1: mercenary approaching from behind them, but.
- 17:36Speaker 2: He is shot by Jessica.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yay. She runs over and she takes cover behind the
- 17:42Speaker 1: wall corner with them, and Kane's like you. Jessica takes
- 17:47Speaker 1: a pin out of a grade with her teeth and
- 17:49Speaker 1: tosses it. They duck as it explodes and takes out
- 17:53Speaker 1: all the mercenaries. Yay, Jessica. Now that they don't have
- 17:58Speaker 1: any obstacle, Cane's like, go and they run off. When
- 18:02Speaker 1: you get to the end of the hall, there's like
- 18:03Speaker 1: a door and Jessica shoots the control panel on it
- 18:07Speaker 1: and all of the cells unlocked, so everybody comes out
- 18:10Speaker 1: into that area, but they're still separated by a door,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and Bones and Kang emerge and they see each other
- 18:16Speaker 1: and they're both like all right, and they like jump
- 18:18Speaker 1: for joy, and then the door to the whole area
- 18:21Speaker 1: opens and they look over and Alex is like you
- 18:24Speaker 1: all okay. Bones has like tears in his eyes, and
- 18:27Speaker 1: he's like Alex and he runs over and like tackle
- 18:30Speaker 1: hugs him to the ground. So they're all like happy
- 18:34Speaker 1: and stuff, and Jessica's just kind of looking around worried
- 18:37Speaker 1: as this is happening. She finally sees Max at the
- 18:40Speaker 1: back of the crowd. He looks over and he's so
- 18:43Speaker 1: happy to see her, and she runs to him and
- 18:46Speaker 1: she's like Max and she hugs him tight, and Max
- 18:49Speaker 1: is like Jessica obviously anyway, He continues, I was gonna
- 18:53Speaker 1: ask you if I survived, will you marry me again? Huh.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Jessica has tears running down her face and she just smiles.
- 19:02Speaker 1: In some other hallway, Sing pushes off the register and
- 19:06Speaker 1: exits the air duct. Blanc is behind him. He kind
- 19:10Speaker 1: of sighs, and he gets stuck halfway out and he's
- 19:14Speaker 1: just kind of struggling to move and Sing's like, come on,
- 19:17Speaker 1: what are you doing. He tries to pull him out
- 19:20Speaker 1: by his face, which is probably not a great way
- 19:23Speaker 1: to pull someone out of an air duct, and Blanc
- 19:25Speaker 1: is like, you're tearing off my jaw. But before Sing
- 19:29Speaker 1: can either get him out or successfully tear off his jaw,
- 19:32Speaker 1: those two guys in Mannerheim walk by and see them.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Sing turns just as the guys realize that they're in
- 19:39Speaker 1: front of them, and he flinks his rope dart at
- 19:41Speaker 1: them and he hits one of the guns out of
- 19:43Speaker 1: the guy's hands, and Blanc of fires and takes both
- 19:46Speaker 1: of the mercenaries out instantly. Mannerheim is left standing there shaking,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and he quickly grabs the suitcase and runs off before
- 19:56Speaker 1: they can do anything. Sing is like wait, you bastard,
- 19:59Speaker 1: and he starts to chase him, and Blanca's like sing.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Sing stops. Blanca is still stuck and he's like, could
- 20:06Speaker 1: you give me a hand? Sings like damn, and again
- 20:09Speaker 1: he's trying to pull out Blanca up by his head.
- 20:12Speaker 1: We cut to Mannerheim in a stairwell and he's like,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I don't want anything to do with these brutal men.
- 20:18Speaker 1: He makes it to this area where there's kind of
- 20:20Speaker 1: like a catwalk between the finished building and an unfinished one.
- 20:25Speaker 1: They're building that like doesn't have windows or any furnishings.
- 20:28Speaker 1: It's just has metal, you know.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Construction stuff. For some reason. I don't know what words
- 20:32Speaker 2: are right.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Now, but you know it's it's just the shell of
- 20:35Speaker 1: a building. Basically. In that section, there's a piece of
- 20:37Speaker 1: tape that says keep out, like a caution piece of tape.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And he grips the case greedily and he's like, as
- 20:43Speaker 1: long as I have this, and he rips down the
- 20:45Speaker 1: caution tape, they can go to hell. Then a gun
- 20:48Speaker 1: clicks behind him and we hear Ash say, who's going
- 20:51Speaker 1: to hell? Oh? Mannerheim freezes. Ash has a gun to
- 20:56Speaker 1: his back. Mannheim's like, don't shoot, and ask says, after
- 21:01Speaker 1: all you've done. He presses the gun even further into
- 21:04Speaker 1: his back, and Mannerheim turns and is like all the
- 21:08Speaker 1: data concerning banana fishes in here. Ash looks surprised. Mannerheim continues,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'll go to court. I'll testify if you let me live.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Ash's eyes narrow. We cut to what I assume is
- 21:20Speaker 1: a helipad because it's on top of the building. And
- 21:23Speaker 1: Fox is there with some guys, and one of the
- 21:25Speaker 1: guys says sir he is leaning over the edge of
- 21:28Speaker 1: the roof. Mannerheim walks over to see what's up, and
- 21:31Speaker 1: the guy's like, look and he points down. Fox can
- 21:34Speaker 1: now see Ash is leading Mannerheim somewhere by gunpoint, and
- 21:38Speaker 1: he's like, Ash, how did he? We can't let him
- 21:41Speaker 1: take the data. At this point, Singing and Blanca are
- 21:44Speaker 1: walking up the stairs to the roof. That's not good,
- 21:47Speaker 1: and they just kind of happen to peek over the
- 21:49Speaker 1: roof and everyone sees each other and Blank and sing
- 21:52Speaker 1: Duck and they're immediately being shot at. Fox is like,
- 21:56Speaker 1: damn it not, now kill them And then he looks too, too, guy,
- 22:00Speaker 1: and he's like, you follow me. Fox and the two
- 22:03Speaker 1: guys are walking somewhere. Fox into his little headphone thing,
- 22:07Speaker 1: says Team Bravo reports. We see some mercenaries setting up
- 22:10Speaker 1: it look like bombs somewhere maybe, And the first Bravo
- 22:14Speaker 1: guy says the labist said, we need more time for
- 22:17Speaker 1: the rest of the center. Fox is like, head over
- 22:20Speaker 1: to the new wing and the guy says Roger. Fox
- 22:24Speaker 1: racks his gun. One of the guys is like, sir,
- 22:27Speaker 1: Fox says, you go around from the side, catch that
- 22:30Speaker 1: brat no matter what, and get the suitcase. So part
- 22:32Speaker 1: of the group is walking and Ash sees them from
- 22:36Speaker 1: above and he makes like a tisk noise and he
- 22:38Speaker 1: forces Mannheim in the opposite direction as they are looking.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm not sure what Ash was doing, but Mannerheim gets
- 22:44Speaker 1: really really close to the rail at the end of
- 22:46Speaker 1: the building and he's just like help me.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Oh fuck.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Ash tosses him back and Mannerheim is like over here,
- 22:52Speaker 1: help And just like that, Mannerheim is shot in the head. Yay.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Ash turns and raises his gun. Unfortunately it's Fox killed
- 23:00Speaker 1: manor Heim. Fox is standing, you know, a bit behind him,
- 23:04Speaker 1: kind of on the opposing wall of the building, you know,
- 23:08Speaker 1: and he says, you can't escape. Ash links and then
- 23:11Speaker 1: all of a sudden, the helicopter, which I guess was Moonwalk,
- 23:14Speaker 1: just like flies down and hovers behind Fox, like in
- 23:19Speaker 1: line with the floor that they're on. And the guy
- 23:23Speaker 1: in the helicopter has like a machine gun and he
- 23:25Speaker 1: just starts shooting, and Ash just runs for his life
- 23:28Speaker 1: and he takes cover behind some metal column for a
- 23:31Speaker 1: second as he's being fired on, and then he continues
- 23:34Speaker 1: to run. I should say that Fox was very close
- 23:38Speaker 1: to the bullets when they were being shot, like he
- 23:40Speaker 1: had his back to the helicopter, and I was just like,
- 23:42Speaker 1: he's gonna get killed, Like you don't just stand there
- 23:45Speaker 1: while a giant machine gun is shooting. But whatever, maybe
- 23:49Speaker 1: he's that cool. He's not cool, but maybe in this
- 23:52Speaker 1: circumstance that's pretty cool. It's not anyway. Blanca and Singh
- 23:57Speaker 1: are on the roof and they have successfully killed all
- 24:00Speaker 1: the guys. They hear like the shooting and commotion from
- 24:04Speaker 1: the machine gun on the helicopter, and Sing looks over
- 24:07Speaker 1: the edge and he's like, shit, they're gonna get him.
- 24:11Speaker 1: The helicopter comes into view more now and it starts
- 24:14Speaker 1: shooting again, and Blanca is like, sit down in front
- 24:17Speaker 1: of me. Sing sits down in front of Blanca. Blanca
- 24:21Speaker 1: rests his sniper rifle on Sing's shoulder. That was pretty cool,
- 24:24Speaker 1: and he's like, lend me your shoulder. Sing looks pretty
- 24:27Speaker 1: shocked and he's like, no way. With the range and wind,
- 24:31Speaker 1: Blanca's like, cover your ears. Sing puts his fingers in
- 24:34Speaker 1: his ears and winces. Blanca shoots right through the windshield
- 24:37Speaker 1: of the helicopter and he hits the pilot in the
- 24:39Speaker 1: head because he's just that good. The helicopter obviously loses
- 24:43Speaker 1: control because no one's flying it anymore, and smashes into
- 24:45Speaker 1: the unfinished building. There's a little explosion, but then it
- 24:48Speaker 1: falls to the ground and makes a giant explosion. Yeay explosions.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Some of the mercenaries are like thrown to the ground
- 24:56Speaker 1: by the force of the blast, and Sing and Blanca
- 24:59Speaker 1: are staring down at the destruction and Sing says, what
- 25:03Speaker 1: the hell are you? Blanca is like, we have to
- 25:06Speaker 1: do something about them. Can you distract them? It's gonna
- 25:09Speaker 1: be very risky, sings like, leave it to me. We
- 25:12Speaker 1: quickly cut to Fox, who is looking really pissed off,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and I guess following after Ash. Then we go to
- 25:17Speaker 1: two of the mercenary guys sitting in the dark, and
- 25:19Speaker 1: the first one says to the other one, we'll corner
- 25:22Speaker 1: him from below. Ash is walking sort of kind of
- 25:26Speaker 1: dragging himself, like he's holding the gun, but his arm
- 25:29Speaker 1: is just slack. He looks really bad. He rests his
- 25:34Speaker 1: arm on like some spare building materials, and then he
- 25:38Speaker 1: starts getting shot at again. He starts to fire back. Fox,
- 25:41Speaker 1: who is obviously the one shooting, is like, you're mine.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Ash runs and dives behind something like concrete pipes or whatever,
- 25:49Speaker 1: and then he comes out and starts shooting again. Fox
- 25:52Speaker 1: stucks behind a column and read loads. He immerses again,
- 25:56Speaker 1: but this time he doesn't see Ash anywhere. We see
- 25:59Speaker 1: the Ashes hide behind a column and he's breathing really hard,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and he looks at his gun and it is locked
- 26:05Speaker 1: like the slide is locked back, which some guns do
- 26:08Speaker 1: that when you're out of bullets, and so that means
- 26:12Speaker 1: that he has no more bullets obviously, and he's like shit.
- 26:16Speaker 1: We cut back to Sing. He is shooting off at
- 26:19Speaker 1: some mercenary dudes who are on a higher floor and
- 26:21Speaker 1: he says, over my dead body. I think that's what
- 26:24Speaker 1: they're trying to do. And the guy he's shooting at
- 26:26Speaker 1: is like you little punk, and they return fire, and
- 26:29Speaker 1: Sing is like, go to hell, and he runs for cover.
- 26:32Speaker 1: He's doing a good job distracting. We now see Fox's
- 26:35Speaker 1: boot as it kind of like finishes stepping down and
- 26:38Speaker 1: there's gun fire in the background. Fox is standing with
- 26:43Speaker 1: his gun raised waiting and he thinks no sign of him.
- 26:47Speaker 2: He steps forward.
- 26:48Speaker 1: At this point, his gun is smashed out of his
- 26:50Speaker 1: hand by something metal and he stumbles backwards. Ash has
- 26:55Speaker 1: a metal pipe now and he's gonna fight with it. Yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 1: he swings it at Fox. Fox like backflips away and
- 27:02Speaker 1: Fox lands and he grabs a pipe. Two, So I
- 27:05Speaker 1: guess they're going to fight with pipes. They are now
- 27:08Speaker 1: just kind of in a standoff, staring at each other
- 27:10Speaker 1: holding their pipes. The difference between them is that Fox
- 27:14Speaker 1: looks like he's in good shape and he's calm, and
- 27:18Speaker 1: Ash is not okay. He is breathing hard, and his
- 27:23Speaker 1: stitched wound from when he gets shot when Ag got
- 27:26Speaker 1: shot has reopened and is bleeding through his shirt. Fox
- 27:31Speaker 1: notices and smiles. Ash runs at him. We then cut
- 27:36Speaker 1: to those mercenary dudes who are firing it sing and
- 27:39Speaker 1: one of them is just suddenly taken out and one
- 27:42Speaker 1: of the guys says a sniper. Blanca takes another one
- 27:46Speaker 1: out like that, and that first guy starts shooting at
- 27:50Speaker 1: him because he's kind of figured out his location now,
- 27:52Speaker 1: and Blanca gets out of the way so he doesn't
- 27:54Speaker 1: get shot and reems and fucking takes that guy out.
- 27:58Speaker 1: At this point, the the opening theme from the first
- 28:02Speaker 1: Core starts playing. Yes, I love when the opening theme
- 28:05Speaker 1: plays in a show. It makes me very happy, and
- 28:08Speaker 1: I love this opening theme. So we got that going on.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Things are getting really really bad now, I guess, or
- 28:15Speaker 1: good or something. Anyway with that, saying emerges and they
- 28:19Speaker 1: wave at each other. Sing turns around and he gasps
- 28:22Speaker 1: and he thinks that's the suitcase Ash was carrying around. Oh,
- 28:26Speaker 1: the suitcase with all the banana fish stuff is just
- 28:29Speaker 1: laying on the floor. We go back to Ash and Fox,
- 28:32Speaker 1: who are staring each other down again. Fox is like,
- 28:36Speaker 1: we had so much fun that day, didn't we. Ash?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Ash krits his teeth. Fox continues, you fear me, don't
- 28:44Speaker 1: you You should? He moves towards Ash. You poor boy.
- 28:50Speaker 1: He hits the ground with the pipe as he walks,
- 28:52Speaker 1: which is pretty intimidated. Continues you try to forget, but
- 28:57Speaker 1: your body remembers.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Oh my god, please dude, please leave him alone.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Ash is like, shut up, stop acting like you get
- 29:05Speaker 1: it for real. Fox says, I'll make you bow down
- 29:09Speaker 1: to me. He flips the pipe around again and strikes
- 29:11Speaker 1: at Ash. Ash blocks him with his pipe and they
- 29:15Speaker 1: kind of, you know, pardy back and forth. Is that
- 29:18Speaker 1: a word? Okay, yeah, I think that's the right word.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Fox says, No use trying to act tough.
- 29:23Speaker 2: You know, you can't win against me.
- 29:24Speaker 1: He brings down his pipe again and Ash lets go
- 29:27Speaker 1: of his and he like uses Fox's pipe as leverage
- 29:30Speaker 1: and he like kind of runs up.
- 29:32Speaker 2: It slightly and like flying.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Kicks at Fox. Fox dodges and Ash kicks again, but
- 29:37Speaker 1: it's not working. Fox kicks him instead. Ash is knocked
- 29:42Speaker 1: to the ground and before he can get up, Fox
- 29:44Speaker 1: is on top of him with the pipe to ash
- 29:46Speaker 1: his neck. Great, none of that's good, Fox says, understand now,
- 29:52Speaker 1: you're nothing but a whore. He leans in. I'll make
- 29:55Speaker 1: you remember that, Jesus. We cut to one of the
- 29:59Speaker 1: guys that Blanca took out just a couple of minutes ago.
- 30:02Speaker 1: He is not completely dead. He's laying on the ground,
- 30:07Speaker 1: very very injured, and he has a detonator in his
- 30:11Speaker 1: hand and he pushes it and it blows up like
- 30:14Speaker 1: part of the unfinished building. Singh is almost near that part,
- 30:19Speaker 1: and his area just kind of collapses and I think
- 30:22Speaker 1: he like falls Fox looks up when hears the explosion.
- 30:26Speaker 1: That little bit of a distraction was all that Ashne did,
- 30:28Speaker 1: and he manages to force the pipe back, knocking Fox
- 30:31Speaker 1: in the face when he does, and then he kicks
- 30:34Speaker 1: Fox off of him. Yes, Fox, whose nose is now bleeding,
- 30:39Speaker 1: is able to grab Ash before he can stand up,
- 30:42Speaker 1: and he's back on top of him, so that didn't
- 30:44Speaker 1: even help at all. He strangles him, this time with
- 30:47Speaker 1: one hand, and then he plunges his knife into ashes
- 30:50Speaker 1: left shoulder. So Ash is being choked out, and he
- 30:55Speaker 1: manages to kind of look around and he sees a
- 30:57Speaker 1: power drill on the floor behind him, and he struggles
- 31:00Speaker 1: to reach for it and he gets it and then
- 31:03Speaker 1: he forces it into fox'side and turns it on.
- 31:06Speaker 2: So now they're both being.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Stabbed by each other, but Fox is also being kind
- 31:10Speaker 1: of drilled at the same time, and they both are
- 31:13Speaker 1: just more or less screaming in pain, trying to dig
- 31:17Speaker 1: their respective instruments into each other further enough to stop
- 31:21Speaker 1: one of them from continuing, And eventually it's Fox. He
- 31:25Speaker 1: lets go of the knife and collapses.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that whole thing.
- 31:32Speaker 1: With like the sound of the drill and like him
- 31:34Speaker 1: being stabbed with it. It's real fucking messed up.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Ash throws Fox off of him and kind of removes
- 31:41Speaker 1: the drill as he does, and he gets his feet.
- 31:44Speaker 1: He braces himself, and then he pulls the knife out
- 31:47Speaker 1: of his shoulder, which he shouldn't have done, as we've
- 31:50Speaker 1: learned in the past. You don't want to do that
- 31:52Speaker 1: because it's gonna bleed more. But really, he can't go
- 31:55Speaker 1: to a hospital, so I guess he's gotta take it
- 31:57Speaker 1: out himself or he's gonna have a knife and the
- 31:58Speaker 1: shoulder forever.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 32:00Speaker 1: He stares at Fox holding his shoulder for a bit,
- 32:04Speaker 1: just trying to figure out what you do next here,
- 32:07Speaker 1: and then he hears Sing struggling. He runs to the
- 32:11Speaker 1: edge of the building and he looks over and Sing
- 32:13Speaker 1: is dangling off of one of the floors below him,
- 32:17Speaker 1: holding on for dear life with one hand, and Ash
- 32:20Speaker 1: is like sing. We get a more close up chot
- 32:22Speaker 1: of Sing now and he says, I can't anymore. We
- 32:26Speaker 1: see that below him is the fire from either the
- 32:30Speaker 1: helicopter or the building or both of them, and he
- 32:34Speaker 1: is slowly losing his grip. Ash runs down the stairs
- 32:39Speaker 1: and sing loses his grip and Ash catches him by
- 32:42Speaker 1: the wrist, of course with his bad arm, because his
- 32:45Speaker 1: shoulder is bleeding, has just been stabbed, and he is
- 32:50Speaker 1: struggling and wincing, and he says, give me your other hand.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Sings like put and we see that he's holding the
- 32:57Speaker 1: suitcase with his other hand. Ash kind of managed just
- 33:00Speaker 1: a smile, and he says, just drop it. Sing looks
- 33:04Speaker 1: kind of surprised or hurt, but then he just slowly
- 33:08Speaker 1: lets it drop. Ash grabs him by the other hand
- 33:11Speaker 1: and starts to lift him up, and just as he does,
- 33:15Speaker 1: there's a gun at the back of his head. Fox
- 33:18Speaker 1: is standing behind him, and he says, too bad, let
- 33:23Speaker 1: the boy go when you just might be able to live. Sing,
- 33:26Speaker 1: who was still hanging just being held by Ash at
- 33:29Speaker 1: this point, says Ash, just let me go. Ash says,
- 33:34Speaker 1: don't move. He just kind of pauses and takes the
- 33:39Speaker 1: breath and has this just resigned look on his face,
- 33:43Speaker 1: like he's ready for this to just be over. And
- 33:46Speaker 1: Fox is like, I told you you can't win against me,
- 33:50Speaker 1: and then he shot in the side of the head.
- 33:52Speaker 2: As he falls.
- 33:53Speaker 1: In slow motion, we see that Dino is holding a
- 33:56Speaker 1: gun behind him. Ash stands and faces the calmly and
- 34:01Speaker 1: they just kind of stare at each other as the
- 34:03Speaker 1: wind kicks up and Dino is pointing the gun at Ash.
- 34:06Speaker 1: And in case you're interested, there's in the background you
- 34:10Speaker 1: can see the New York skyline, at least part of it,
- 34:13Speaker 1: so we know that this part of New Jersey's not
- 34:15Speaker 1: very far from New York.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 34:17Speaker 1: After a little while, Dino kind of starts to shift
- 34:21Speaker 1: his weight and he just looks kind of faint, and
- 34:24Speaker 1: Ash gasps, as you know, kind of steps and falls
- 34:29Speaker 1: off the side of the building. Ash runs over and
- 34:33Speaker 1: he watches him fall in slow motion because that's how
- 34:36Speaker 1: you got a fall, and they just kind of stare
- 34:39Speaker 1: at each other as Dino falls towards the fire. I
- 34:43Speaker 1: will say that this is not a great looking fall
- 34:48Speaker 1: animation wise, and even when I watched it the first time,
- 34:51Speaker 1: I was like, man, I wish that was done better.
- 34:53Speaker 1: But whatever, Dino's gone. Sing walks over to where Ashes
- 35:00Speaker 1: standing and he says, there won't even be any bones left.
- 35:03Speaker 1: There probably will be. Wasn't that suitcase important? Why did
- 35:08Speaker 1: you save me? You and I are Ash cuts him off.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Forget it, I didn't save you, just to kill you,
- 35:15Speaker 1: even if we did kill each other, and it just
- 35:17Speaker 1: means some other guy makes an extra ten bucks. Let's
- 35:20Speaker 1: end it all, all this insanity. They kind of look
- 35:23Speaker 1: out at the skyline and Ash continues, do you really
- 35:27Speaker 1: want to fight me? Things like no, I just wanted
- 35:31Speaker 1: everyone to be satisfied. Ash says, they will be. You
- 35:35Speaker 1: did a great job. We hear Blanca say, I don't
- 35:39Speaker 1: mean to interrupt. They turn and Blanca is like, we
- 35:43Speaker 1: should probably get out of here before the wind changes.
- 35:46Speaker 1: It'll be chaos before long. And Ash is like another
- 35:50Speaker 1: Indiana Jones reference. I'm not sure if that is, but okay.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Blanca says, if you want to burn to death, be
- 35:57Speaker 1: my guest. Ash is like you were watching all that,
- 36:00Speaker 1: weren't you. Blanc is like yeah. Ash says he should
- 36:04Speaker 1: have just saved us. Then Blanc is like, I figured
- 36:07Speaker 1: you wanted to end it your way. He looks down,
- 36:10Speaker 1: maybe kind of forlorn. He must be satisfied too, who
- 36:15Speaker 1: cares about what Tina wants? Ash looks kind of sad
- 36:19Speaker 1: in a way that you would hope someone wouldn't look
- 36:21Speaker 1: sad if their amuser just died, but you think they
- 36:24Speaker 1: might anyway, the sun is rising. At this point, we
- 36:27Speaker 1: go to a press conference at the White House and
- 36:30Speaker 1: the guy who could be the President but I don't know,
- 36:32Speaker 1: says what has been uncovered is truly deplorable. We hope
- 36:37Speaker 1: to get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible.
- 36:40Speaker 1: We see like a different shot now it's clearly on
- 36:42Speaker 1: a TV screen and it looks like it's on CNC,
- 36:46Speaker 1: which I guess is the station, but it doesn't really exist.
- 36:50Speaker 1: And the newscaster says, unprecedented news of government officials paying
- 36:55Speaker 1: for sex with adolescent boys. Max, Jessica, Robert and that
- 36:58Speaker 1: Newsweek guy that we're seeing sometimes now or watching it,
- 37:02Speaker 1: And the Newsweek guy says the Assembly might summon Smiles
- 37:05Speaker 1: to appear in court. He looks over and realizes that Max,
- 37:08Speaker 1: who's a little bit behind him, looks kind of upsets,
- 37:11Speaker 1: and he says, what's wrong. Your wounds still hurting. Jessica
- 37:15Speaker 1: and Robert look over at Max as well. Max says no,
- 37:19Speaker 1: he looks down. Jessica's like thinking about ash. Don't worry,
- 37:24Speaker 1: he's ash after all. Max's cell phone buzzes in his pocket.
- 37:27Speaker 1: He takes it out and looks at it and there's
- 37:30Speaker 1: a message that looks like maybe it's an email. I'm
- 37:31Speaker 1: not sure it's from an anonymous sender, and there's no subjects,
- 37:36Speaker 1: but the body of the email says congrats Dad, and
- 37:40Speaker 1: then following that is a emoji of a pig with
- 37:44Speaker 1: a fork and knife emoji next to it, which I
- 37:47Speaker 1: thought was cute. Max looks pleasantly surprised, and he smiles
- 37:52Speaker 1: and says ash. He looks out the window. We cut
- 37:58Speaker 1: to a full glass of wine being tossed onto the
- 38:00Speaker 1: carpet and spilling, obviously, and we hear Uelung say let
- 38:04Speaker 1: him in. A guy's like, But yue Lung, who is
- 38:08Speaker 1: sitting on the couch, says I said let him in.
- 38:12Speaker 1: We hear the door open and they turn and we
- 38:15Speaker 1: hear Sing say, cool it, you drunkard. The guy's like,
- 38:19Speaker 1: he's dangerous, sir, and Uelung says I said, go away.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Sing is standing in the doorway surrounded by like other
- 38:28Speaker 1: Chinese mafia guys, and he says, what a tyrant.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Someone's gonna poison you someday.
- 38:33Speaker 1: The guys leave, leaving Sing and yue Lung alone. Uilung says, sadly,
- 38:38Speaker 1: i'd noticed beforehand he's like playing with his braid. He continues,
- 38:43Speaker 1: I'm much more practiced in it. Sing raises his gun
- 38:47Speaker 1: at Uelung. Uelung stands and smiles really sadly and says,
- 38:52Speaker 1: go ahead, you have the right to sings like you
- 38:56Speaker 1: want to die that badly. I heard from Blanca. I
- 39:00Speaker 1: understand why you hate your kin. Ue Lung's like that blabbermouth.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Sing looks down. I understand how you feel. Ue Lung's
- 39:08Speaker 1: like as if you could, Sing says I. I trusted
- 39:13Speaker 1: you wouldn't pray on our Chinese brothers unlike you're worthless brothers.
- 39:17Speaker 1: But you sided with Golzen and 's loud to shoot Ag.
- 39:20Speaker 1: You couldn't forgive Ash for opening up to Ag because
- 39:23Speaker 1: Ash found something you never could.
- 39:25Speaker 2: You were just jealous.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Ue Lung looks hurt and walks over to Sing and
- 39:30Speaker 1: slaps him, and Sing just like slaps him right back,
- 39:33Speaker 1: but way harder, and ue Lung collapses. Sing was not
- 39:37Speaker 1: expecting him to fall over and is shocked and yeah,
- 39:42Speaker 1: did not mean to hit him that hard, and he says,
- 39:46Speaker 1: stop clinging to your past, no matter how much you
- 39:49Speaker 1: hate them, you have the lea blood inside you. Yue
- 39:52Speaker 1: Lung is still on the floor, and he just looks
- 39:55Speaker 1: so sad. Sing continues, I'll never forgive you, but Chinatown
- 40:00Speaker 1: has gotten so out of control, but it's no longer
- 40:03Speaker 1: safe to walk around in broad daylight. You're going to
- 40:06Speaker 1: live and pay for what you did. Uelung sits up.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Sing continues and bring back peace to Chinatown. Yuelung looks
- 40:15Speaker 1: down and says, I don't have what it takes. Sing says,
- 40:20Speaker 1: that's why I'm gonna help you. Stop hating yourself. It
- 40:22Speaker 1: won't get you anywhere, saying you are too mature for
- 40:26Speaker 1: a fourteen or fifteen year old. Uelung's like, it's not
- 40:30Speaker 1: that easy. My only reason to live was to hate
- 40:33Speaker 1: my brothers. Without that, I would have never made it
- 40:36Speaker 1: this far. He covers his face with his hand and
- 40:39Speaker 1: begins to cry, saying, kind of sadly, says, you've avenged
- 40:43Speaker 1: your mother, isn't that enough? I don't hate you. Yue
- 40:47Speaker 1: Lung looks a little surprised. Sing says, for some reason,
- 40:51Speaker 1: I just can't bring myself to You're hurt, your heart
- 40:54Speaker 1: bleeds even now, You're just like ash in that aspect.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Ui Lung starts to cry again. Sing's like, damn stop
- 41:02Speaker 1: crying like a girl. Uie Lung's like, well, sorry for
- 41:05Speaker 1: being girlish on the inside too. Singh says, you really
- 41:09Speaker 1: get on my nerves and Uie Lung's like, then leave
- 41:12Speaker 1: me alone, and sing says, oh, come on, give me
- 41:15Speaker 1: a break. We see Blanca. Oh God, here we go.
- 41:20Speaker 1: So how are you feeling so far? Let's pause there
- 41:22Speaker 1: and say that this is a tone shift in the episode.
- 41:25Speaker 1: And I am sorry because this is where I start
- 41:26Speaker 1: to cry.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Probably.
- 41:28Speaker 1: We see Blanca sitting in a park reading on a bench.
- 41:32Speaker 1: He hears footsteps, but he doesn't look up. He just says
- 41:36Speaker 1: it's you Ash. At this point, the credits start to roll.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Ash walks over kind of from behind, and he's wearing
- 41:43Speaker 1: the same flows he does in the manga, which I
- 41:44Speaker 1: never really understand why they do that sometimes and other times.
- 41:48Speaker 1: But Blanca says, how did you find me here? Ash
- 41:52Speaker 1: jumps over the back of the bench and sits down
- 41:54Speaker 1: next to Blanca. You used to come here all the
- 41:56Speaker 1: time to read. He sticks his fist out toward Blanca
- 42:00Speaker 1: and says, anyway, here's your pay. Blanca lifts his hand
- 42:04Speaker 1: and Ash releases the money into it and says five
- 42:08Speaker 1: hundred and fifteen bucks and seventy five cents all taxes
- 42:11Speaker 1: and costs included. Blanca is, yeah, he's just like, well, thanks,
- 42:18Speaker 1: Ash says, you leaving today. Blanca's like, yeah, did Sing
- 42:23Speaker 1: say anything to you about mister Yuelong? Ash says, what
- 42:27Speaker 1: a faithful servant, caring for his master even after the
- 42:30Speaker 1: contract's over. Blanca smiles and sighs. Ash continues, Sing didn't
- 42:35Speaker 1: kill him. He's too soft, unlike me. Blanca takes off
- 42:39Speaker 1: his glasses, which I didn't tell you he had on,
- 42:41Speaker 1: but that's okay, and says, what would you do to him?
- 42:44Speaker 1: Ash smirks, I tear into a pulp. Always make sure
- 42:48Speaker 1: the enemy is dead. You're the one who taught me that.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I was never taught to take it easy. Blanka looks
- 42:53Speaker 1: kind of sad, and he says, I was told there
- 42:56Speaker 1: was no need to. Ash continues, but anyway, I'm not
- 43:00Speaker 1: the type to go out of my way to kill someone.
- 43:03Speaker 1: As long as he doesn't come for me, I'm fine
- 43:04Speaker 1: with that. Satisfied, Blunk is like yeah. There's a little pause,
- 43:10Speaker 1: and then he says AGI's going back to Japan tomorrow.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Ash is quiet for a second, and then he says,
- 43:18Speaker 1: you were right, I don't bring him anything with danger.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I'm the kind of person needs to stay away from.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I get that now, Nah, I've known that the entire time.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I just couldn't accept it. He smiles, sadly pitiful. Huh.
- 43:32Speaker 1: We go to a shot of Ag and Ash standing
- 43:35Speaker 1: like the background is just white. It's from episode one,
- 43:39Speaker 1: and Ash continues, when we first met, I knew what
- 43:43Speaker 1: kind of die he was, but he wasn't scared or
- 43:46Speaker 1: even wary of me. He talked to me with his
- 43:49Speaker 1: awful English. We get another view of the same shots,
- 43:53Speaker 1: focusing on Ash's expression, and Ash continues, I just thought
- 43:57Speaker 1: he was weird. I figured it was because he was
- 43:59Speaker 1: a foreigner. We now focus in on AG's face with
- 44:03Speaker 1: like just the sweetest expression on it, Like I just
- 44:07Speaker 1: like all the trust in the world in his eyes.
- 44:11Speaker 1: And Ash continues, but I realized after time that I
- 44:14Speaker 1: was wrong. Where now back in the present time, by
- 44:17Speaker 1: the way, and Ash says, when he's near me, his kindness,
- 44:21Speaker 1: his honesty, his warmth, it flows right through me. He's
- 44:27Speaker 1: smiling like the saddest smile with his eyes closed. He continues,
- 44:34Speaker 1: it made me complete. We get a first person perspective
- 44:39Speaker 1: shot of Ash's hands as he's kind of holding them
- 44:42Speaker 1: in front of him, and he says, but I my body,
- 44:48Speaker 1: it reacts like a machine and kills people like it's nothing,
- 44:51Speaker 1: without thinking, without feeling. He kind of folds his hands together.
- 44:56Speaker 1: I've never been so scared of myself for so ashamed
- 45:01Speaker 1: I'll never see him again. There's a pause as Blanc
- 45:04Speaker 1: is kind of waiting for him to continue and looking
- 45:06Speaker 1: on sadly, and Ash says, he's still my friend, even
- 45:11Speaker 1: if we never meet again. I'm allowed to feel for him, right.
- 45:16Speaker 1: There's a pause. A couple kind of walks by, and
- 45:19Speaker 1: Blanca says, what are you gonna do now? Ash just
- 45:23Speaker 1: like not that much, just going back to being the
- 45:26Speaker 1: scum of the city like always. We see a shot
- 45:29Speaker 1: of Blanco's book, which is a Farewell to Arms by
- 45:32Speaker 1: Ernest Hemingway, and Blanca says, won't you come to the
- 45:36Speaker 1: Caribbean with me? Ash pauses for a second, and then
- 45:39Speaker 1: he's like, you want me to fill your void? That's
- 45:43Speaker 1: not like you, surge. Blanca takes a deep breath. You're right,
- 45:48Speaker 1: forget I asked. Ash stands and reaches out his hand.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Well take care. They shake hands. Blanca says, you two,
- 45:59Speaker 1: They both smile painfully at each other, and Ash leaves. Okay.
- 46:06Speaker 1: I just want to stop there for a second, mostly
- 46:08Speaker 1: so I can get a grip of myself, but like, yeah,
- 46:16Speaker 1: Ash loves him so much that he's willing to let
- 46:19Speaker 1: him go to protect him. Now, when I was watching this,
- 46:27Speaker 1: I didn't realize that it was thirty one minutes long,
- 46:30Speaker 1: and I actually thought we were basically at the end here,
- 46:32Speaker 1: and I was not happy with this conclusion, so I
- 46:36Speaker 1: was surprised it kept going anyway. We see Age in
- 46:41Speaker 1: the hospital room. He's in a wheelchair and he's dressed
- 46:44Speaker 1: and there are suitcases packed near him, and the bed
- 46:48Speaker 1: is all, you know, undressed, Like it's clear he's leaving.
- 46:52Speaker 1: He's just kind of looking down at the floor sadly.
- 46:55Speaker 1: He hears the door open and looks over and it's
- 46:58Speaker 1: saying and he's like yo, And Ag says Sing. Sing
- 47:02Speaker 1: walks into the room and he's like, hey, you're leaving today, right,
- 47:06Speaker 1: AG says, Sing. Is Ash okay?
- 47:08Speaker 2: Is he safe?
- 47:09Speaker 1: Sings like, huh, he hasn't come to see you. Ag
- 47:13Speaker 1: looks down sadly and Sing continues. Why he crosses his arms.
- 47:19Speaker 1: I really don't get him. AG reaches down and holds
- 47:24Speaker 1: out like an envelope and says, can I ask a favor?
- 47:28Speaker 1: Sing takes the envelope and stares at it. AG says,
- 47:33Speaker 1: could you give this to Ash? I wish I could
- 47:36Speaker 1: go myself, but look at me. There's no one else
- 47:39Speaker 1: I can ask. Sings like, but I don't know where
- 47:42Speaker 1: he is right now. AG's eyes widen the library. He
- 47:46Speaker 1: is at the library. I know he is. We cut
- 47:49Speaker 1: to a brief exterior shot of the library, followed by
- 47:54Speaker 1: Ash sitting at a table in the Rose reading room.
- 47:59Speaker 1: It's quiet and he's reading a book called White Something
- 48:03Speaker 1: e Anjeane Dean. I don't know. I didn't try to
- 48:07Speaker 1: look it up. He takes off his glasses and he
- 48:11Speaker 1: glances at his watch, which is sitting on the table.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I'm not sure what the time is because I couldn't
- 48:16Speaker 1: figure out what direction the watch was supposed to be in.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Is it eleven thirty four, ten thirty four, five oh three?
- 48:22Speaker 1: It's one of those times he looks sad. He's obviously,
- 48:26Speaker 1: you know, counting down for When Ag leaves. We get
- 48:30Speaker 1: a quick shot of someone's boot, and then a wider
- 48:33Speaker 1: shot as Sing approaches Ash. Someone is standing kind of
- 48:37Speaker 1: in the corner of the frame, shadowed maybe behind a column,
- 48:40Speaker 1: and he walks off. We cut to Ash holding the envelope,
- 48:44Speaker 1: which says dear Ash on it. They're outside and Ash
- 48:50Speaker 1: is just staring at it, and he looks kind of confused,
- 48:52Speaker 1: and Sing says.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Why won't you go to him? He's going back to
- 48:57Speaker 2: Japan today.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Ash is still looking at the left I know. Sing
- 49:02Speaker 1: is like, then, why he's your friend? And Ash says,
- 49:07Speaker 1: that's exactly why, and clenches his fist. I'm returning him
- 49:10Speaker 1: to his own world. He is clenching his fists so
- 49:13Speaker 1: hard that his arm is shaking. This world's of killing.
- 49:17Speaker 1: He doesn't belong here. Sing gasps, and he says, but
- 49:21Speaker 1: there isn't any time left. Ash turns away. Sing says,
- 49:26Speaker 1: want me to give him a message. Ash is just silent,
- 49:30Speaker 1: still facing away from saying. Sing says, you stubborn idiot,
- 49:35Speaker 1: and he just runs off. Ash just stares blankly in
- 49:38Speaker 1: the opposite direction. We see the inside of JFK Airport.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I know it is now Yay and Max, Robert, Jessica,
- 49:48Speaker 1: Charlie and Jenkins are all there to show Shounici and
- 49:52Speaker 1: Ag off, and Max says, take care both of you.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Shounci's like you too. It's gonna be tough, but good luck.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Max says, leave it to me. I'll get to the
- 50:02Speaker 1: bottom of everything. They keep talking, and ag just kind
- 50:07Speaker 1: of looks at the floor sadly, and he thinks, Ash,
- 50:10Speaker 1: you didn't come. He's actually looking at the flowers that
- 50:14Speaker 1: he's holding in his lap. I don't know if they're
- 50:16Speaker 1: get well flowers. I don't know if they are for Ash. Yeah, anyway,
- 50:22Speaker 1: he continues to think, I understand how you feel. He
- 50:26Speaker 1: didn't want to come because you thought it was best
- 50:28Speaker 1: for me. But that's just too painful. Are you okay
- 50:32Speaker 1: with that? We see Ash sitting on a bench outside,
- 50:36Speaker 1: maybe outside of the library, somewhere I don't really know.
- 50:40Speaker 1: He opens the envelope and is surprised. Inside there's a
- 50:46Speaker 1: ticket to Japan. It says it's from JFK to Tokyo
- 50:50Speaker 1: HND and it is for Oslam callan Reese. He starts
- 50:55Speaker 1: to read the notes that's enclosed with it, and we
- 50:58Speaker 1: hear it in Agy's voice. It says, Ash, I'm worried
- 51:03Speaker 1: to death because I haven't been able to see if
- 51:04Speaker 1: you're doing okay. We see Shunichi pushing Ag as they
- 51:09Speaker 1: wave goodbye to everyone. The note continues, you said we
- 51:15Speaker 1: live in different worlds, but is that really true? AG
- 51:19Speaker 1: looks over and is surprised to see Alex kan and
- 51:21Speaker 1: Bones peeking out from behind a column. They're happy that
- 51:24Speaker 1: he noticed them and they waved him. The note continues,
- 51:28Speaker 1: we have different colored skin and eyes. We were born
- 51:31Speaker 1: in different countries, but we're friends.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Isn't that what counts?
- 51:35Speaker 1: Ag happily waves back to Alex, Bones and Kanan. The
- 51:39Speaker 1: note continues, I'm really glad I came to America. We
- 51:44Speaker 1: got to like Bones showing him some weird alligator toy
- 51:47Speaker 1: and then like he's bothering Alex with it. I don't
- 51:49Speaker 1: know what that was. AG kind of laughs. The note continues,
- 51:54Speaker 1: I met a lot of people, and more than anything,
- 51:57Speaker 1: I met you. Ag laughs as he watches you know, Alexon,
- 52:02Speaker 1: Bones and kN We cut to Ash reading the note,
- 52:07Speaker 1: and at this point we get some of the words
- 52:09Speaker 1: appearing on the screen, which is helpful because I can
- 52:11Speaker 1: read them instead of the translation, and the note continues,
- 52:15Speaker 1: you ask me many times if you scare me, but
- 52:18Speaker 1: I never felt scared of you not even once from
- 52:21Speaker 1: the first time I met you. Actually, I always felt
- 52:25Speaker 1: that you were hurt much more than me, that your
- 52:28Speaker 1: spirit was wounded.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Funny right. We cut to an image.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Of Ash teaching Ag how to shoot from episode six.
- 52:36Speaker 1: The note continues, You're way smarter and bigger and stronger
- 52:40Speaker 1: than me, but I always felt like I had to
- 52:42Speaker 1: protect you. Ash, still reading the letter, gasps and jumps
- 52:47Speaker 1: up and starts to run. The note continues, I wonder
- 52:52Speaker 1: what it is I wanted to protect you from. Ash
- 52:54Speaker 1: is just running down the street. I guess going to
- 52:57Speaker 1: AG and someone cuts him off and just stab him
- 53:00Speaker 1: in the chest. His eyes widen. He says heg heg
- 53:06Speaker 1: jumps and books for Ash, but obviously he's not there.
- 53:12Speaker 1: And then we hear Sing say AG and he's waving
- 53:15Speaker 1: from like another area above and Alex, Kung and Bones
- 53:18Speaker 1: are with him, and he continues, Ash said see you
- 53:21Speaker 1: and you better come back. Bones and Kong say we'll
- 53:25Speaker 1: be waiting. Alex, Bones and Kong wave, AG waves back,
- 53:30Speaker 1: I will I will come back. We cut to blood
- 53:34Speaker 1: dripping onto the sidewalk, and then a knife that's in
- 53:38Speaker 1: Ash's like chest or stomach area, and we hear Lao say,
- 53:44Speaker 1: why did you let your card down? He pulls the
- 53:47Speaker 1: knife out. You never do why now? And then there's
- 53:53Speaker 1: a gunshot. Lao stumbles backwards, bleeding no heart feelings. He
- 54:00Speaker 1: against the wall of a building and says, I can't
- 54:04Speaker 1: let you take sing away, and he's dead. Ash is
- 54:10Speaker 1: just grabbing his chest and leaning over in pain. He
- 54:15Speaker 1: drops the pages of the letter on the sidewalk and
- 54:19Speaker 1: he bends down to pick them up before they can
- 54:21Speaker 1: blow away or something. And then we see Agy looking
- 54:26Speaker 1: out the window of the plane. Shinichi says, are you okay,
- 54:31Speaker 1: and AG's like yeah. Once I got into a fight
- 54:34Speaker 1: with Ash, and I went to the library to apologize.
- 54:38Speaker 1: He was sitting there quietly, so serene, set apart from
- 54:42Speaker 1: the world of violence and fighting, but so alone, such indescribable,
- 54:48Speaker 1: sublime loneliness. And we cut back to the note I
- 54:51Speaker 1: wanted to protect you from fate, the faith that tries
- 54:54Speaker 1: to carry you far away, drifting further and further, And
- 54:59Speaker 1: then to Shunichi, he says, that's when I thought I'd
- 55:02Speaker 1: believe in him, no matter what. He starts to cry,
- 55:06Speaker 1: no matter what may happen, that I that I at
- 55:09Speaker 1: least I would. Tears are streaming down his face, so
- 55:16Speaker 1: at least my crying makes sense. Right now, We cut
- 55:19Speaker 1: back to Ash, who is limping or down the sidewalk
- 55:24Speaker 1: holding the note. The note continues, you once told me
- 55:27Speaker 1: about a leopard in a book you read, Ashes kind
- 55:30Speaker 1: of stumbling now, and he returns to the library, into
- 55:34Speaker 1: the rose reading room. The note continues, how you believed
- 55:38Speaker 1: that the leopard knew it couldn't go back. Ash makes
- 55:42Speaker 1: it to the table and he sits down and continues
- 55:44Speaker 1: to read.
- 55:46Speaker 2: He looks so hurt.
- 55:48Speaker 1: The note continues, and I said you weren't a leopard
- 55:51Speaker 1: that you could change your destiny, Ashes, still looking at
- 55:55Speaker 1: the note, which is now covered in his blood. It continues,
- 56:00Speaker 1: You're not alone on by your side, My soul is
- 56:03Speaker 1: always with you. Tears hit the note near those words,
- 56:09Speaker 1: and the Ash is crying, and he looks up and
- 56:12Speaker 1: he takes his shaky breath. The plane takes off. Agy's
- 56:19Speaker 1: looking out the window. The note continues, Sionara America, Sionara
- 56:25Speaker 1: New York. But I'm not gonna say Sionara to you. Ash.
- 56:28Speaker 1: He smiles. It's snowing. I know we'll meet again, no
- 56:33Speaker 1: matter how far apart we are. You're the best friend
- 56:35Speaker 1: I'll ever have. We cut back to Ash, who is
- 56:39Speaker 1: collapsed on the table. We have a close up shot
- 56:42Speaker 1: of him. I can't see everything. A woman who I
- 56:46Speaker 1: believe is a librarian comes up and says, excuse me,
- 56:50Speaker 1: you shouldn't sleep here. Ash's head is resting on the
- 56:54Speaker 1: notes and he looks so peaceful. The woman, I guess,
- 57:02Speaker 1: thinks so too, and just says, must be a nice dream.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Then we hear a voice say excuse me. The woman
- 57:09Speaker 1: looks over and walks away to help someone and leaves Ash.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Alone to die. And that's it.
- 57:20Speaker 1: I hope you could understand that since I'm crying so much.
- 57:24Speaker 1: I was really trying not to cry all the way
- 57:27Speaker 1: through that, but it didn't work. Yay, So closing thoughts. Yeah,
- 57:35Speaker 1: I knew that was gonna happen. When I was watching
- 57:41Speaker 1: this for the first time, I was on the phone
- 57:43Speaker 1: with one of my friends and I was just kind
- 57:47Speaker 1: of looking up some banana fish stuff, either like art
- 57:51Speaker 1: or merchandise, I'm not really sure on Google. And Google
- 57:55Speaker 1: did that thing it does where it's like other people
- 57:57Speaker 1: have asked and then it says a bunch of things
- 57:58Speaker 1: and one of the things was did age you know,
- 58:01Speaker 1: Ash died? And the other one was when did Ash die?
- 58:04Speaker 1: And I was just like what And this was around
- 58:06Speaker 1: episode twelve or so, and I like panicked and I
- 58:09Speaker 1: like felt that like weird fight or flight response in my.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Body, which is weird.
- 58:14Speaker 1: So I knew for you know, basically half of the
- 58:18Speaker 1: anime that he was gonna die during this episode. When
- 58:22Speaker 1: we got to the scene with him in Blanca on
- 58:24Speaker 1: the park bench, I thought maybe I was wrong, Like
- 58:28Speaker 1: maybe it's just gonna end kind of open ended. They'll
- 58:30Speaker 1: never see each other again, but they care about each
- 58:32Speaker 1: other whatever, And like I said, I was not happy
- 58:38Speaker 1: with that conclusion. It reminded me a lot of Number six,
- 58:42Speaker 1: the anime, which had this weird thing at the end
- 58:45Speaker 1: where like the two main characters are obviously in love,
- 58:48Speaker 1: and in Number six, like there's no you know buts
- 58:50Speaker 1: about it, there are a couple and they kind of
- 58:53Speaker 1: go off to do their own things. She had was like,
- 58:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back to the destroyed city, and Nezumi's like, Okay,
- 59:00Speaker 1: maybe i'll see you around or we'll see each other again.
- 59:03Speaker 1: It's like, Nezumi, you will go to the city with him.
- 59:05Speaker 2: You have nothing holding you there?
- 59:06Speaker 1: What are you doing? I just thought it was like
- 59:09Speaker 1: a shit way to end things. I want a conclusion.
- 59:12Speaker 1: I don't want ips it's not you know, like, so
- 59:17Speaker 1: I actually really loved this ending. I never thought I
- 59:24Speaker 1: was going to burn an anime character the way that
- 59:27Speaker 1: I kind of more into ash. It makes me feel
- 59:32Speaker 1: bad about myself because, like, the fuck am I mourning
- 59:37Speaker 1: a non real person, But also it makes me feel
- 59:40Speaker 1: kind of nice because I don't I don't really cry
- 59:45Speaker 1: about character deaths. Ever.
- 59:49Speaker 2: In order to you know, feel this way, I just.
- 59:53Speaker 1: Had to get so fucking attached, you know. And that, really,
- 59:59Speaker 1: in my opinions, speaks to the writing of this character
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: a lot, because I don't think Banana Fish is a
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: like a crime thriller. I think it's very much a
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: character study about one person and their life and their death.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: And I think that that's really obvious that because the
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: whole thing with Banana Fish isn't really resolved, like they
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: lose all of the data on it, so I assume
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: it's not going forward. But I don't know how much
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: the people in the government, who are you know, doing
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: all the shitthead access to they might have some of
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the stuff. But you know, Ash just telling sing like
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: to just let it go. It just makes it very
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: clear that this was not about that, and I think
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: anyone who was watching it probably knew that this was
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: not about the drug and that thing. It was about
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: the relationship between Ash and AG and just Ash as
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: a character. And I mean things did get resolved though,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: like a lot of powerful people in the government were
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: probably going to go to jail because of what was leaked,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: which wasn't banana fish, but was the sex trafficking of
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: all of these young boys, which honestly needed to be exposed,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: maybe even more than this drug. Not really, they're both
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: really bad, but this is gonna save people's lives hopefully
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: if they got there in time. And Club Cod didn't
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: like shut down and move somewhere else. So in the end,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: you know, Ash did something really good because without him
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: being involved in all this, none of this would have happened.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: But I didn't want him to die, but I knew
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: that he had to, you know, not just because I've
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: read that he was going to die, but because what
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: happens from here, you know, like he's either technically dead
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: and doesn't have a social security number and can't get
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: a real job if you wanted one, Yeah, you know whatever.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: I mean, he has money, but how much money left
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: and you know how long? What's gonna happen with that?
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: We don't know, So like, no job, So what does
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: he do? Go back to crime, go back to prostitution,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: like what's there? I mean, it would be so so
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: nice if he could go to Japan with ag and
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: just start over, but that could never happen. He's not
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: gonna get out of the country. He's a fucking criminal.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: And if he doesn't totally lay low, and I mean,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Charlie knows that he's alive, right, so if they're looking
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: for him again, he's eventually gonna get caught. You know,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: he's gonna go to jail, go to prison for the
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: rest of his life. Best case scenario, and that's a
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: terrible scenario because we know what Ash in prison looks like, well, jail,
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: but still there's really not a good way for this
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: to go. Either he dies on screen or he dies
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: in an alley in a couple of years. And I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: don't want to feel like that because I really want
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: to believe that everyone could be saved, you know, But
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: some people just don't have a fair shot, and he
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: did not have a fair chance into anything. And he
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: was really brave, and he was a really good guy,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: and he chose what was best for Agie over what
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: was best for himself, even though they both desperately wanted
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: to be together, and that just.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Takes so much love to do that for someone else.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: But Age left not knowing what happens. You know, he
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: got on the plane and didn't know that Ash was
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: dying at the same time, which is horrible because he
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: deserves that. He deserves to know, so even the idea
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: that he wouldn't just makes me very sad. I think
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: maybe the other reason that this hit me very hard
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: is I don't normally find like character relationships and romances
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: or whatever that's understandable.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Maybe it's because I'm a romantic and asexual, so I
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: don't know, they don't tend to work for me. But
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I this might be the first time that I was, like,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I totally believed that these characters were like really good
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: for each other, you know. I mean, yes, ag was
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: not safe around Ash, he was not, but on an
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: emotional and connection level, they were so good for each other.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Ag so wanted to care for someone instead of having
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: people worry about him. And Ash really needed someone.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: To make him feel like he's.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: A person because no one else did. You know, and
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I've said this a couple of times, but he was
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: he was either a prostitute or gang boss or criminal.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: And that goes for everyone that goes for his gang
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: members too. You know, they were following him because of fear.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: No one even b other to really look at him
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: as a person, and I just I wanted him to
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: continue to have that.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: So I really liked their relationship, the kind of you know,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: non sexual it' spin on it. I mean, I don't
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: think Ash could have handled a sexual relationship. I think
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: one time I was like reading something. It was like
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: a question someone asked on like Tumblr, and it was
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: like who would be the bottom and who would be
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: the top to like someone, And I like got viscerally
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: upset because I thought of both of those situations and
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, I don't think Ash
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: can do that. Like I don't think he's okay enough,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: you know, uh, yeah, no, I'm off topic, but I
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: don't know that if they would have ever gotten to
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: a point where they were like that with each other
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: and maybe romantically but more than that, I don't really know.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: And for an asexual a romantic person, that's like, oh,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: this is like pretty much if I was gonna have
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: a relationship with someone, this would be like the best
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: case scenario.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: It's like super cute.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: They just kind of live together and they like each
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: other a lot, and one of them cries on the
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: other one all the time. That sounds nice, That sounds
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: like something I could do. I don't know. It's just
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: for some reason, their connection like really really hit with me,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: and I so wanted them to be together.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: But I'm really glad that if Ash had to die,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: he died in.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: A place that he felt safe, finally free from Dino
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: in Fox and all of those people, and finally believing
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: that someone actually loved him. It's really probably the happy
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: he'd been forever, you know. But he still died alone,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: just like he lived, you know, and he still didn't
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: have help when he needed it, And it's still so sad,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: And I guess sometimes when I think about him, he
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: kind of reminds me of some of my like punk
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: friends from when I was younger who just didn't make it,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: not because they were stabbed outside the library, but because
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: of drugs or I don't know, usually it's drugs, but
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: they didn't have good lives and they just they were
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: just never gonna make it, so I don't know, maybe
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: that's in there too, Maybe that's why this hurts me
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: so much, but I really don't know. Yeah, I feel
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: like there's probably more to say, but we still have
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: three more weeks that I can remember things a little
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: bit and I probably won't cry next week at all
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: because it's not that sad, So yeah, I'll probably just stop.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: But I really like this. This is probably my favorite
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: ending of an anime. There are so many that are
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: just not very conclusive or kind of stupid, Like I
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: really don't like the ending of the original try Gun Oh. Also,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: the other anime that I really like the ending of
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: has a similar ending, and you may want to just
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: skip ahead thirty seconds if you don't want to hear
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: the ending of Cowboy Bebop. But you know, Spike dies.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: He's shot at the end and he dies, and I
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: remember watching that and going like that is exactly how
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: this was supposed to end, Like what else could he
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: have done? This was gonna happen. So I think the
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: last thing I want to say is, while I was
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: watching this for the first time, knowing that Ash was
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: going to die at the end, I kept thinking about
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: the song A Broken Jar by a.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Lot of Dispute.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: But there's a part, well technically the end of it
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: that goes now, I'm throwing all the shards away, discarding
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: every fragment and fumbling uncertain towards a curtain call that
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: no one wants to happen and no one's gonna clap for,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: but still has to be. I just thought that kind
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: of summed up the way I feel about this. I
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: didn't want this at all, but it had to happen.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: So I'm gonna link that song in the comments, and
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I'm also gonna link another song by a Lot of
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Dispute called King Park, which also makes me think of
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: this now. It's also like a really good, like empathy lesson.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: But you gotta listen to the whole thing, because if
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: you listen to the beginning, you're gonna be like me
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: and just roll your eyes. You gotta listen to the
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: whole five minute song. Anyway.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: I really hope I did this justice.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: I really do because I have no idea why this
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: meant so much to me, but it really did. And
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: I hope that's you got something out of it too,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: even if you're not paul like I am about Ash
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: being dead and loving Ag enough to let him go
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: and dying in the library, I hope that. I hope
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: you thought it was good at least, and I hope
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: that you're not really freaked out by the fact that
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: I'm just crying through half.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: Of this episode.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: I don't know how I could have done it another way.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: I can't even think about this stuff without crying. So yeah,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: Ash was right about being the leopard, though he really was.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: All right, I think I'm gonna go. I gotta fucking
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: blow my nose or something. Again, Thank you for watching
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: this with me, and I will see you next week
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: when we go over in July. Which, if you're looking
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: for it, it's in volume nineteen of Banana Fish Manga.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: You can find it online multiple places. Some of them
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: have porn ads on them, which is just so much fun.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: But yeah, it's really really good. It deals with the past,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: and there's a lot of stuff I want to talk
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: about afterwards. Hopefully it won't be two hours long, but
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: who knows. So yeah, if you want to read that,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: go for it. If you don't want to read it,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I'll just talk it to you straight from the manga.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: So whatever, Yeah, that's gonna be it. It must have
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: been a nice dream, though. I hope you have a
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: really good whatever and you know you're you're worth something.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Don't forget that, Okay, even if you have tons of
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: flaws and you've had terrible things happen to you, you're
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: still worth something and you still deserve to be loved for.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: The most part, unless you're like the worst person ever,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: and then don't take this to heart, but you're probably
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: not the worst person ever, so you really deserve you
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: really deserve it.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Later weeps
