- 0:01First Thessalonians chapter 3. Let us pray.
- 0:08Oh Lord God Almighty, we thank you, Father, We thank you for
- 0:13the written word. We thank you for the completion
- 0:17of Your word, the spoken word given to us.
- 0:21Thank you, God, that we can hold it and house it, and that we can
- 0:25memorize it, Father, and that we can bury it deep, deep down in
- 0:30the recesses of our minds, in the recesses of our psyche, in
- 0:34the recesses of our feelings and emotions, God, in the recesses
- 0:39of our bones and capillaries. Father, I pray in the name of
- 0:43Jesus to be filled with power from on high today.
- 0:48God, Holy Ghost, Phyllis overflowing.
- 0:51God, I pray not just halfway, not just a little bit, not just
- 0:57to the top, but God overflowing into the communities, into the
- 1:02highways and the hedges and the byways.
- 1:05God, I pray in the name of Jesus that today will be the day of
- 1:09salvation for someone. Your mercies are new every day.
- 1:13Thank you God for waking us up this morning and put on our
- 1:16feet. Thank you God for another chance
- 1:18to come and to worship you in spirit and truth.
- 1:22Thank you Lord God for the church, the ecclesia, the called
- 1:26out ones. Thank you God Almighty, for
- 1:29giving us the down payment of the Holy Ghost.
- 1:33Thank you, Lord, that where you are we will be.
- 1:35Thank you Lord that you're coming soon.
- 1:38Thank you, Lord, that we have prepared ourselves.
- 1:41We have adorned ourselves. God, we wait expectantly, we
- 1:46watch and we wait. Father for you, the blessed
- 1:50return of our King and our Lord, we love you.
- 1:53King Jesus, we look upon you today as the brazen snake lifted
- 1:59up in the wilderness. God, we look upon Jesus Christ,
- 2:03the all sufficient sacrifice. Lord, we receive salvation
- 2:07today. Lord, we receive our wholeness
- 2:11today. We receive healing today from on
- 2:14high. God heal us, heal our bodies,
- 2:17heal our bones, heal our minds, heal us today heal marriages
- 2:23today. God heal this nation.
- 2:26God heal the world at large. Father, I pray against the
- 2:29schemes of the enemy. God, bind the enemy and cast
- 2:33them into the judgement. You have a waiting for him.
- 2:36Father, I pray that today, Lord, you will be well pleased with
- 2:41the reading of your text. Lord, as we open up your word,
- 2:45let your word word read us, edify us, build us up.
- 2:51Father God, we are all standing upon the chief cornerstone.
- 2:57We have built our lives upon the rock God and we will never be
- 3:02put to shame. Lord, you are for us, so there
- 3:05can be no one that is against us.
- 3:07We are more than conquerors. We put on the full armor today,
- 3:15and by faith we wrap the belt of truth around us.
- 3:22God, we tell the truth. Lord, we resist lying.
- 3:28We are not attached to the Father of lies.
- 3:31We are attached to the truth, Jesus Christ Lord, by faith.
- 3:37We put on the breastplate of righteousness.
- 3:40Protect our hearts from all the fiery darts, protect our organs
- 3:46from all of the piercing arrows that are being thwarted at us.
- 3:55God, I pray that you'll guard our hearts and let out of our
- 3:59hearts come the wellspring of life.
- 4:02Father, I pray that we'll store up in our hearts your words,
- 4:06your mind, your motives, your emotions, your feelings, your
- 4:10responses. God, I pray that you'll guard
- 4:13our hearts. Let us not be LED off astray.
- 4:17Lord, by faith we shod our feet with the shoes of the gospel of
- 4:23peace. Lord, we hold the gospel of
- 4:26peace in our hands. There is no peace outside of
- 4:29Jesus Christ. God, help us to run this race
- 4:32well. Help us to have the peace of
- 4:35you. Father, I pray by faith that I
- 4:40can put on the helmet of salvation.
- 4:45Let us overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the words of our
- 4:49testimony. Lord, by faith I lift up the
- 4:54shield of faith over my head. I lift it up over what my mind
- 5:01is trying to tell me, God, and by faith I stand firmly upon the
- 5:07Word of God, and by faith I take up the sword of the Spirit,
- 5:12which is the word of God. By faith.
- 5:15I pray, Lord Jesus, that you will help us to rightly divide
- 5:19the Word. Give us correct theology, God.
- 5:23Give us the correct doctrine, God, we resist and we break down
- 5:29and we dismantle the doctrine of demons.
- 5:33Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that you will
- 5:36help us to put on the full armor and to run this race well and to
- 5:41wage war against all of the darkness and against all of the
- 5:47wicked principalities. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 5:53that you will help us and fuel us and take us to new heights
- 5:56with you. King Jesus, we love you.
- 6:00We RIP down all the strongholds of every demonic entity trying
- 6:05to rear its ugly head against us and against our bodies and
- 6:09against our minds and against our families and against our
- 6:12workplaces. God, in the powerful name of
- 6:15Jesus Christ, Lord, we draw circles around everywhere that
- 6:20we go today. We are the peacemakers.
- 6:23We are more than conquerors. And Father God, I pray you'll
- 6:27crush the head of rebellion. Lord, in the mighty name of
- 6:31Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
- 6:37Well, let's start in verse one. Wherefore, when we could no
- 6:46longer for bear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone.
- 6:52So Paul here has counted the cost, and he has seen that it is
- 6:55far better for him to be left alone than to send old Timothy
- 6:59to this church at Thessalonica where Paul had established in a
- 7:05very short three weekend span of time.
- 7:11And we're going to see how Timothy was a fellow worker of
- 7:15Paul and was treated by Paul as a son, verse 2, and sent
- 7:21Timothy, our brother and minister of God and our fellow
- 7:26laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and to comfort
- 7:32you concerning your faith. So we can see that Timothy was
- 7:37likened to a table waiter, this minister.
- 7:42And that is what that word means.
- 7:44It was denoted to the early church whenever the widows were
- 7:52complaining of the Hellenist Jews, and they were complaining
- 7:55that they were getting overlooked.
- 7:57So they had put together a band of men who would serve tables.
- 8:04And here Timothy is likened to one of them, and he's also this
- 8:11minister of God, a fellow labor. And then we know about the good
- 8:15news. This gospel of Christ is the
- 8:17good news. And when you have the good news
- 8:21of Christ, it will establish you.
- 8:24And we need to be established before we can ever be comforted.
- 8:28But this good news will establish you and this good news
- 8:33will comfort you in faith. And that is what Paul is
- 8:37referencing here. We need to be established in the
- 8:39good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 8:42We need to know that we know that we know that we know that
- 8:46the enemy cannot snatch us out of God's hands.
- 8:50All he could ever do is get us to make a mess out of our
- 8:53testimony and our lives so that we're not effective for the
- 8:56service unto the King. Because when we try to
- 8:59evangelize, people look upon our lives and they don't see any
- 9:03difference than the rest of the world, and we lose our witness.
- 9:08So we need to be established, friends, and then in that
- 9:11establishing we can be comforted knowing that all the sins that
- 9:16we have ever committed, are committing, or will commit are
- 9:19under the blood of Jesus Christ. And by faith we are clothed in
- 9:24His righteousness and His purity, and we are clothed in
- 9:28his innocence. And we will stand before an
- 9:30almighty God, a holy God one day, and he will see us as
- 9:34blameless and perfect and holy because he is holy. 3 that no
- 9:41man should be moved by these afflictions for you, for
- 9:45yourselves know that we are appointed there unto.
- 9:50So, just so you know, afflictions and persecutions are
- 9:55built into the Christian life. And this is something that gets,
- 9:59it gets left out in the very first part of giving out the
- 10:07invitation to the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 10:11And this is sanctification. As we by and by we start to
- 10:15learn that not only are the rewards built in to the
- 10:19Christian life, but so are the afflictions, Friends.
- 10:23And God disciplines those that He loves, and He allows us to be
- 10:28in the refiner's fire, and He allows us to go in and to melt
- 10:34out all the impurities in the dross, to melt out all of the
- 10:39impurities that do not belong, because He desires to refine us
- 10:44and to make us into His image. Do not be surprised, friends, if
- 10:50you are in the fire. It is part of the Christian
- 10:53walk. But do not suffer for doing
- 10:56wrong. There is no glory in that.
- 10:59But if you suffer for doing what is right by God and what the
- 11:03words of His good book say, then you can be sure that you will be
- 11:08rewarded in due time. For for truly, when we were with
- 11:16you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation even
- 11:22as it came to pass. And you know, Paul was driven
- 11:27out of Thessalonica by an angry mob, and he went into Berea and
- 11:32was driven out by the same mob from Thessalonica.
- 11:36And he told the church there, listen, you will suffer
- 11:40persecutions and trials. And then with their own eyes,
- 11:45they got to see it is that he's talking about not only to him,
- 11:49but they are also in that time being persecuted and being an
- 11:54affliction because of their faith in this Jewish Carpenter,
- 11:59in this rogue St. preacher who claimed to be the Son of God.
- 12:07And he is our Savior, and our Lord, and our KING5 For this
- 12:13cause, when I could no longer for bear, I sent to know your
- 12:18faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and
- 12:24our labor be in vain. So Paul was very concerned of
- 12:29this church here in Thessalonica.
- 12:31And this being the very first letter that he penned, it would
- 12:34have been a very short time from the time that he left them to
- 12:38the time that he wrote to them. And He is letting them know that
- 12:42He was concerned to see if they had fallen away because the
- 12:46tempter had come in and tempted them back into ease and tempted
- 12:51them back into comfort and tempted them back in to a life
- 12:57free of affliction. And that is what the enemy will
- 13:00try to do to you. Friends, when you are sold out
- 13:04100% to the Lord Jesus Christ, the world will hate you because
- 13:10it hated Him first. And you will be looked over for
- 13:14that promotion. And you will be ostracized for
- 13:18your faith and ridiculed because you do not look like the rest of
- 13:22the world. And there are so many because
- 13:25they were planted in shallow soil.
- 13:28There are so many that have fallen away and they have
- 13:32renounced their faith because they were not deeply rooted and
- 13:36grounded in God's Word. The bird came in and snatched
- 13:40the good news that came, and also the tares and the snares
- 13:44came up and choked out the fruitfulness of that St.
- 13:48And Paul here is wondering what has happened to the church at
- 13:52Thessalonica, and he is sending Timothy to find out.
- 13:58He could no longer for bear. He wanted to know what their
- 14:02faith level was like. 6 But now when Timothy came from you to us
- 14:12and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that
- 14:20you have good remembrance of us, always desiring greatly to see
- 14:28us as we also to see you, So Timothy brought back a good
- 14:32report. Paul was very concerned about
- 14:36this church here at Thessalonica.
- 14:39And now Timothy has returned and he's leaping for joy because
- 14:43they have been firmly established in love and in
- 14:49faith. And he brought the good news of
- 14:52their love and faith and that they remembered Paul fondly for
- 14:57all the teachings that he poured out like a fire hydrant trying
- 15:01to drink water out of that fire hydrant.
- 15:04Paul in three weeks time gave them all that they needed to
- 15:09know about our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 15:12He poured out an entire life of learning Old Testament as a
- 15:16Pharisee of Pharisee and a Hebrew of Hebrews.
- 15:20And he turned and in three weeks time poured out all the
- 15:23knowledge that this church in Thessalonica needed to be
- 15:27grounded upon and to be established upon.
- 15:31And now they're looking back very fondly at this time that
- 15:34they got to spend with this super apostle.
- 15:42Seven. Therefore, brothers, we were
- 15:44comforted over you in all our afflictions and distress by your
- 15:51faith. So Paul said I could go through
- 15:53whatever happens because I know now that you are firmly rooted
- 15:58and grounded in God's Word. And he says that it's all not
- 16:02for nothing, and that I have great joy in knowing that you
- 16:08know the truth and that you are serving the truth, and that you
- 16:13are worshiping the truth. And his name is Yeshua. 8 For
- 16:19now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.
- 16:23Paul says, I have been revived by your faith.
- 16:28I have been stirred to great measures.
- 16:35I have been made alive by this news that you are firmly rooted
- 16:40and grounded in the truth. Stand fast in the Lord.
- 16:47That is what we are called to do.
- 16:49Friends, gird up your loins so that you can stand in His holy
- 16:54presence and stand against the Wiles of the enemy.
- 17:01Stand against all the tyrannical, demonic assaults
- 17:06that are coming our way at a rapid pace.
- 17:09They are coming through so many different ventures.
- 17:15They're coming in the mainstream.
- 17:17They're coming in every side. We are hard pressed, but we must
- 17:22stand firm until the end, not wavering and being tossed to and
- 17:27fro like a little child. We are called to stand like men
- 17:32and do not retreat, do not go backwards, do not digress and
- 17:39regress. We must stand and we must
- 17:43continue to go forward with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,
- 17:48telling every single nation, every single people group, every
- 17:53single tongue. We must tell about the good news
- 17:57of our Lord Jesus Christ, no matter the cost. 9 For what
- 18:04thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy
- 18:09wherewith we joy, for your sakes, before our God.
- 18:14So he's saying we are celebrating in the highest
- 18:18order, we are jumping for joy, we are giving God the utmost
- 18:24praise, because you are established in the truth. 10
- 18:32Night and day, praying exceedingly that we might see
- 18:36your face and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith.
- 18:43So Paul wanted to impart to them a greater measure of
- 18:48understanding of anything that they were lacking in.
- 18:52Paul wanted to fill the void. He wanted to make sure that they
- 18:56didn't have any questions, that they were not doubting all the
- 19:01things that he had taught them. He wanted to be there in person
- 19:05to be able to answer any of the questions that they might have
- 19:10about Jesus Christ. 11 Now God himself and our Father and our
- 19:18Lord Jesus Christ direct our way to you.
- 19:22So you can see the Godhead here. Look at how Paul says God
- 19:29himself and our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 19:35This is the Godhead being referenced and Paul had a
- 19:41wonderful understanding of the Trinity and he would always
- 19:46intermingle and sprinkle and season his letters with this
- 19:52Godhead. He understood that Jesus is God
- 19:57and that God himself is our Father.
- 20:01And he is the only one that could open doors that no man can
- 20:05shut, and he is the only one that can shut doors that no man
- 20:08can open. Why do the nation's rage in the
- 20:14people's plot in vain? God is in heaven and does
- 20:20whatever he wants. 12 And the Lord make you to increase and
- 20:29abound in love one toward another and toward all men, even
- 20:38as we do towards you. So it's not enough just to love
- 20:42those who love you, but we must love our enemies, friends.
- 20:46And here Paul is reminding them of this wonderful spiritual
- 20:51truth and that God is the only one that can cause you to love
- 20:55God more. We need to ask God to increase
- 20:59our love for Him and increase our love for our neighbors.
- 21:05All of the law is wrapped up in loving the Lord God with all
- 21:10your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength, and
- 21:14loving your neighbor as yourself.
- 21:17Everything culminates and everything is satisfied.
- 21:22Whenever we will love like He loves and He can increase and
- 21:30abound that love, we never arrive, friends.
- 21:35We never hit a spiritual plateau to where we get comfortable.
- 21:40God is going to take us from glory to glory.
- 21:43Hallelujah and Amen. We'll end on 13 to the end.
- 21:51He may establish your hearts unblameable in holiness before
- 22:01God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
- 22:08with all His Saints. 13 is a loaded verse.
- 22:12We could spend a lifetime talking about it to the end,
- 22:21meaning the end of time or the end of your life, whichever
- 22:25comes first to the end. He's going to establish our
- 22:31hearts. Our hearts need not to be
- 22:34fearful. They need not to be calloused.
- 22:37Our hearts need not to revert back to the lustful, fleshy,
- 22:43earthy things that we once did when we did not know Him.
- 22:47He desires to establish us, and to plant us firmly, and to give
- 22:52us a hope, and to give us a future, and to work all things
- 22:56together for the good of those who love Him and who are called
- 23:00according to His purposes. And here He is telling us that
- 23:04we will be unblameable in holiness before God by being
- 23:10covered in the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 23:12We can stand before an Almighty God and He'll never see any of
- 23:16the sins that we've ever committed.
- 23:18He is holy, and so we can be holy.
- 23:21He imputes to us His righteousness, friends, and His
- 23:25perfect life on to us. He takes upon our sin in this
- 23:30great scandalous exchange that happened upon the cross of
- 23:33Christ, and then He tells us the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
- 23:38with all His Saints. You need to understand
- 23:41something. There's nothing that is standing
- 23:46in the way of the church being called up and called out of this
- 23:52world, the capital C Church. We wait expectantly upon our
- 24:01groom, we fill our lamps with oil, which is the Holy Spirit,
- 24:07and we wait expectantly. We look up and see our
- 24:11redemption is drawing near. We see the leaves on the fig
- 24:14tree and we know that summer is near.
- 24:17We will not be caught off guard, friends.
- 24:21We do not know the day, we do not know the hour, but we know
- 24:25that he comes like a thief in the night, friends.
- 24:27And if the strong man knew when his house would be broken into,
- 24:31he would not allow it, friends. But you need to understand that
- 24:36we will go to be with Him forever more if we belong to
- 24:40Him, and we will receive our rewards because they are with
- 24:43Him. And during the time that we're
- 24:45receiving our rewards, the whole earth will go to hell in a
- 24:49handbasket. This place will be worse than
- 24:52it's ever been since the beginning of time.
- 24:55And if God had not shortened those days, no one would
- 24:58survive. But I want you to know this
- 25:01little verse here is talking about the end of the
- 25:04tribulation, that our Lord Jesus Christ will come with all of His
- 25:09Saints. That is you and that is me.
- 25:12And the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than anyone who
- 25:16is born of woman. All the prophets of old long to
- 25:19see the day that we would be indwelled with part of the
- 25:24triune nature of God Almighty. To be indwelled with the Holy
- 25:29Ghost is one of the greatest privileges that mankind has ever
- 25:35been able to encapsulate and to house the Godhead inside of
- 25:40humanity. And Jesus Christ was the first
- 25:43born in the same power that resurrected him from the dead.
- 25:47Lives inside of you and lives inside of me.
- 25:50St. And we will raise up on the last
- 25:53day, friends, and we're going to learn a lot about that as time
- 25:56goes on. I pray that you've been blessed
- 25:58by this amazing chapter in God's Word.
- 26:08I know I sure have many times over.
- 26:13What an amazing book in the Bible.
- 26:19Paul wants us to know and not to be ignorant of what the plans of
- 26:25God are. And he writes them down.
- 26:29As plain as the nose is on your face, friends, He writes it down
- 26:37black and white and tells us exactly what we are to hope for.
- 26:51I love you, so does God, so does Jesus.
- 26:59Be prayed up today. Be filled with the Spirit today.
- 27:03Resist all of the schemes of the adversary.
- 27:10Stay rooted and grounded in God's Word.
- 27:16I'm praying for you, praying for strength for this hour.
- 27:21Do not lose hope. Do not be dismayed.
- 27:28God bless you. We'll see you back here
- 27:31tomorrow.
