Wichita’s downtown is about to get a major upgrade with the addition of a 30,000-square-foot full-service grocery store—developed by the Price Chopper family—to tackle food access and draw more residents and workers to the area. Part of a larger revitalization plan for the block between First and Second streets and Topeka and Emporia avenues, the store will sit near the Shirkmere building, soon to become new housing, and near the historic Scottish Rite building—once a YMCA and music venue—whose future use is still being planned.
