Transcript
- 0:02Hello, welcome to He's hot, but something's off with me.
- 0:05Jess, Joey T It is warm in Los Angeles, and it's especially bad
- 0:15for me because I walk to the gym.
- 0:18I go to the gym most days of the week and when normal people when
- 0:23it's warmer side, they'll be in a tank top, a sleeveless tee or
- 0:28no shirt, they're in shorts, they're in flip flops or
- 0:30something. I'm the opposite.
- 0:32I cover up as much of my body as possible from the sun.
- 0:36The UV index I went to the gym today and I had just left the
- 0:43left the house and I just pulled up because I was curious what
- 0:46the UV index is and it was 11, which is as high as it goes.
- 0:50But I will put sunscreen on my face and my neck.
- 0:53But I don't like putting on sunscreen on my body and
- 0:56sunscreen is usually hard to wash off because most sunscreen
- 0:59is water resistant. That means it's very hard to
- 1:02wash off. So I cover myself up.
- 1:05I have long pants. I have this UV jacket that zips
- 1:09up all the way to like under my chin and it's got a hoodie so I
- 1:12put the hoodie on I've got a baseball cap.
- 1:13I pull it down low, but it's it gets a little sweaty under
- 1:19everything. So walking to the gym is not
- 1:24that bad, but it's just a leisurely walk.
- 1:27You know, it's like a little bit of shade and that's fine.
- 1:30But like after you've had like a full session at the gym and then
- 1:34you like try to walk home. I don't shower at the gym.
- 1:36I don't like doing that. So I'm not super sweaty at the
- 1:40gym. Just for the record, I don't
- 1:42really sweat that much like at the gym itself.
- 1:43I'm not like I'm not like sweating bullets or anything.
- 1:46I think it's super warm at the gym anyways and there's AC at
- 1:48the gym, but you know, after like a, a good workout, putting
- 1:52all that stuff back on. By the time I get home, the
- 1:54first thing I do when I literally the first thing I do
- 1:58once I get into the house and I, I close the door behind me.
- 2:02It's literally like stripping down naked.
- 2:05Everything comes off, jacket comes off, hat comes off, bag
- 2:08comes off, and then the pants like I Jack and immediately like
- 2:13the pants come off because I've got these long pants that I
- 2:15wear. They're kind of like joggers, I
- 2:17guess. They're not like super thick
- 2:20winter joggers, but they're not meant for like 90° weather.
- 2:24It's about like high 80s in LA right now.
- 2:29They're not really meant for that.
- 2:30So it's not super well, it's a little sweaty under the pants by
- 2:34the time I get home from the gym, to be really honest.
- 2:37Anyways, how is everybody doing? I in in an effort to keep the
- 2:43house a little cooler and also just to like generally save
- 2:47money on the electricity bill. My ceiling lights in my living
- 2:52room that I'm sitting in right now.
- 2:54I podcast on my dining room table.
- 2:56Nowadays, the ceiling lights are off.
- 3:00I've got the fan going. So in the daytime we'll get up
- 3:03inside the house. It gets up to like nearly 80°,
- 3:08but if I'm in the house and I'm just sitting there, I'm at my
- 3:11computer or I'm on the couch. I'm not like I'm not trying to
- 3:16do chores in house. If I'm doing chores, if I'm
- 3:18cleaning the house, it does get warm.
- 3:21So I gotta pick, maybe pick a day when it's like not that warm
- 3:25to like do some of those chores, but I'm just sitting there.
- 3:28I just have the fan and I don't need the AC keep it like I think
- 3:31early today was like 80 got up to 80° in the inside the house.
- 3:35But with the fan, it's completely fine, honestly.
- 3:37But at night, though, the AC just has to come on because it
- 3:42just, I just can't fall asleep when it's that warm.
- 3:45Yeah, but it's nice. I thought we're gonna get June
- 3:47Gloom, which is a real thing in Los Angeles, but it's been
- 3:50pretty nice weather since the start of June.
- 3:53I just realized it's it was June 18th, so it's Wednesday as I'm
- 3:59recording this. I I swear it was like the 12th
- 4:03or the 13th or something and for most of the month to be over.
- 4:06It is so crazy. I was doing some work thing
- 4:09earlier today and I had to like basically make this like big
- 4:13payment to a vendor to order stuff.
- 4:15And I was looking at this like, oh, it's the 18th already.
- 4:18Not that like the bill was going to be overdue.
- 4:21Like they had just sent the bill today.
- 4:23But I was like, OK, they sent over the invoice today.
- 4:26I need to pay by the end of the month.
- 4:28I was like, OK, how many days do I have left?
- 4:30It's like what? But actually the day of the
- 4:32month is, is, oh, it's the 18th. So I have to like the 30th to
- 4:36pay it, which I knew I had to the 30th to pay, but I was like,
- 4:39oh shit, need to move some money around really, really real
- 4:42quickly. ANYWAYS, we don't usually do
- 4:45news on the podcast, but I do read the news all the time.
- 4:52I just, I don't know, somewhere along the way I think I got used
- 4:55to just keeping up on current events and things like that.
- 4:58I definitely read up on like financial news, like stock
- 5:03market news, things like that. That's one of the regular things
- 5:06I check every day and not every day, but most days I'll just
- 5:10check the general news, like a general news website.
- 5:14The other thing I check for is like tech news because I'm a
- 5:17techie. So like I check tech news.
- 5:19It's like, oh, is there, I don't know, some discount on some tech
- 5:22now that I'm buying anything usually or you know, it's like
- 5:26some, some new product announcement or something like
- 5:29that. But for the general news, like
- 5:32the last week or so, there's been so many big major headlines
- 5:37in the news. You know, usually when you go to
- 5:39a news website, you, they get like the one headline that
- 5:42doesn't take up like the entire width of like the web page.
- 5:46You know, there's always a headline, but it's like it, it,
- 5:51it, it doesn't take up the full screen.
- 5:53But if you like the last few days, there's been so many big,
- 5:57huge headlines that would take up the full width of the screen.
- 6:02I'm on like one particular news website that I usually check.
- 6:05I'm not going to name it because I don't want to make it seem
- 6:07like I'm partial to like some particular news because even
- 6:11that's politicized anyways these days.
- 6:14But it was like one major headlight and you scroll that
- 6:17and other major headlight and other major headlight after
- 6:20that. There's been so much stuff going
- 6:22on. And these days, like probably
- 6:27around the start of the year, soon after the presidential
- 6:30election is really honest. I stop checking the news all the
- 6:33time because it just keeps you. A lot of times the news keeps
- 6:40you on this edge of like, like, I don't know, restlessness,
- 6:48anxiety, even if it's like not a political thing.
- 6:52But I have kind of sort of been more, a lot more measured in the
- 7:00news that I take in. You know, I read about like tech
- 7:05news, I read about car news, but you know, like the actual like
- 7:11big news headlines. Sometimes it's like sometimes a
- 7:14report of stuff that I don't even really want to know about.
- 7:18And it's like some of the some of the articles are for some I
- 7:23just read, I just read this article.
- 7:26I won't, I don't think I should go into details of it.
- 7:28But anyways, it's a, it's a slightly controversial subject,
- 7:31but some friends sent it over. And then there's a line in there
- 7:34that like insinuates, in my opinion, insinuates something
- 7:38that wasn't really true about a particular industry.
- 7:41And it's stuff like that. Sometimes I read a news article
- 7:44and the, the journalistic standards, I guess, are not what
- 7:48they used to be. So many people get their news
- 7:51from Tiktok and Twitter and things like that.
- 7:55Oh, you know what's really annoying?
- 7:56You know what, let's not even talk about the, the actual like
- 7:59news media anymore. But I'm already over it.
- 8:01But a lot of people get their information from Tiktok and
- 8:05whatever. You know what?
- 8:06I what I don't like to see. I don't like seeing influencers
- 8:13delivering news. I don't.
- 8:16I don't like that because I feel like a lot of influencers that
- 8:22try to do news, they sensationalize it so much.
- 8:29And I already kind of sort of don't like how some influencers
- 8:35super sensationalize everything they talk about because I don't.
- 8:41But sometimes it's like very click baity.
- 8:42But I know when you are on TikTok and you're scrolling
- 8:45through, you know, people sometimes only see the first
- 8:48half a second or one second of your video because you can just
- 8:53keep swiping through endlessly. There's like a million videos
- 8:55you can keep swiping and swiping and swiping, but you only have
- 8:59like that half second or one second actually capture
- 9:01someone's attention. So they have to like have some
- 9:06sort of I guess they, they have to from a content creator point
- 9:09of view. If you want to catch someone's
- 9:11attention scrolling through the feed, you have to do something a
- 9:17little extra, I guess in the first extra whatever seconds.
- 9:22You know what? I you know what else I don't
- 9:24like about videos like social media videos and Jedi like
- 9:28TikTok and stuff like that is when they have, but a lot of lot
- 9:33of lot of influencers and content creators do this is when
- 9:38they're like a talking head in front of like a background.
- 9:41So they're showing something and then like they superimpose their
- 9:45head onto it. I think take that property has
- 9:46like a built in feature to do that.
- 9:48I never got on board with that trend.
- 9:50Oh, you know what else I don't like?
- 9:52OK I swear this was not supposed to be a rant, but on YouTube the
- 9:57click baity thing that people do is to have those like thumbnails
- 10:01where like the influencers, they'll put their own face onto
- 10:05the thumbnail and they're having some sort of like super crazy
- 10:09facial expression. I never understood that but it
- 10:11must work because so many of them do it.
- 10:14But whenever I see someone's like stupid ugly facial
- 10:17expression, it makes me want to not click on it.
- 10:20It's like sometimes ads have the opposite effect.
- 10:22There's sometimes I'm streaming some sort of show on my TV and
- 10:27sometimes there are ads in between, which is fine.
- 10:30And some of those ads are companies just taking influencer
- 10:34TikTok reels or Instagram reels and just putting them onto the
- 10:40streaming TV, like the streaming service as like ATV ad.
- 10:44And it's all it's in like that vertical portrait orientation as
- 10:47well. There's just like 1 product
- 10:49that's like some sort of herbal whatever drink that's supposed
- 10:53to be good for some part, some organ or something, your liver
- 10:56or bladder or whatever. And they have this chick talking
- 11:00about it like this. It's clearly an influencer chick
- 11:03who's paid to do it. But like, all these people in
- 11:05ads are paid right, obviously anyways.
- 11:07And she's like talking about how whatever good or magical or
- 11:12whatever is going to win you lottery tickets.
- 11:15And this girl, I can tell she is reciting lines and she's not a
- 11:24good actress. And I can tell it's not genuine.
- 11:29It's like if they have an influencer, you've got high
- 11:33influencer to do marketing for your company and then you're
- 11:36going to take that video and put it onto a streaming service
- 11:40where millions of people are going to see that ad on like
- 11:44ATV, like a big screen TV. It's not just like a random
- 11:47TikTok ad that someone, it's just going to like maybe even
- 11:51just see the first second and swipe through because they keep
- 11:52swiping through TikTok. You know, a lot of people like
- 11:55the ads on the TV. They don't.
- 11:56You can't Fast forward through the ads.
- 11:58You're stuck watching it. This chick I don't even remember
- 12:01what product it was like some non cleverly named product.
- 12:04It was gross but this chick was like they should have seen the
- 12:08ad and be like this does not pass muster for TV even just for
- 12:12streaming not nevermind cable. It's like I have no idea why
- 12:15they put this ad on but I can sure as hell tell you I'm not
- 12:18buying that product. So sometimes ads can have this
- 12:21effect of, at least to me anyways, the ad is not good.
- 12:26And I'll think I do not want to buy that product.
- 12:29Yeah. But like whatever streaming
- 12:31service I'm on, like you, keeps you watch stuff on a particular
- 12:37streaming service for long enough.
- 12:40The ads will repeat eventually, just like when you watch regular
- 12:44TV, like you watch cable and the ads that come on naturally on
- 12:47cable networks. Yeah, you, you will eventually
- 12:50get, you know, you eventually start seeing ads repeat.
- 12:54You know, there's not that many new ads that they're serving
- 12:56all, all the time. Yeah.
- 12:58But like, I don't like this trend of them, like having
- 13:00influencers do these like streaming service TV ads.
- 13:07There was another one where like this chick was like she wasn't
- 13:10reciting lines, but she kept on saying like, oh, this product is
- 13:13like good and great and was just like very Asians of her seeing
- 13:17how good something was without explaining why it was good or
- 13:21like how much she liked it. It was just saying, Oh yeah,
- 13:24this was good. And it's like so awesome and
- 13:26it's great. It's like you're literally just
- 13:28saying the same word, but like throwing a thesaurus at it
- 13:31because I also can't believe whatever.
- 13:33I don't, I don't remember what product it was.
- 13:34I was just, I was annoyed and distracted by how crap that
- 13:39influencer was and also how like that company's PR marketing
- 13:45department chose to put that piece of shit onto a streaming
- 13:48service because I think you probably have to pay a decent
- 13:51amount of money. Put your ad onto the streaming
- 13:52services. Like you think Disney Plus is
- 13:54going to let you have that for cheap.
- 13:56So I don't I, I have no idea how we got from talking about the
- 14:01weather's warm to talk about news headlines to talk about how
- 14:05bad a lot of influence are influencers are at making
- 14:10videos. I mean, the whole point of being
- 14:13an influencer these days is to be able to like plug in hog
- 14:16products. Good influencers can do it
- 14:19convincingly. I feel like the really kind of
- 14:22like top tier type influencers. I mean, I don't follow a lot of
- 14:25influencers to be really honest with you.
- 14:27I do not. I don't know a lot of
- 14:30influencers. There's like a few tech
- 14:33influencers that IA couple of tech influencers that I watched
- 14:39some of their videos some of the time the way, but they're like
- 14:43top tier, like they're top tier influencers.
- 14:47They're like the top like .1% in their in like the tech
- 14:52influencer space. They're very like popular
- 14:55influencers and but the way they plug products, it's it it feels
- 15:01organic and natural. They're not just like some
- 15:04random person on Instagram that is like cold, just like cold
- 15:10calling, cold emailing companies to offer to like be an
- 15:14influencer for them. Like I started my skin care
- 15:16company and somehow like I just got like, I don't know, there
- 15:21was like a random influencer like every week or like a few of
- 15:25them every week that was just like suddenly hit me up or
- 15:27e-mail me like the regular, the support line and just be like,
- 15:31oh, I'm an influencer and I can create content to you, blah,
- 15:33blah. Some of them have like 1000
- 15:35followers. Like you don't, you're not an
- 15:37influencer at 1000 followers, honey.
- 15:40And like 800 of those are bots. Are you kidding me?
- 15:44I mean, guess ridiculous because I know people that are not
- 15:47influencers at all that don't try to be.
- 15:49They're just posting like random selfies with no ulterior motive
- 15:53on Instagram and they have more than like 1000 followers.
- 15:57I've got like I've got more than 1000 followers and I don't, I
- 16:01barely call my, I don't even really call myself an
- 16:03influencer, honestly. So yeah, it's, it's just crazy.
- 16:07Everybody thinks they're an influencer.
- 16:08You know, at my gym just recently, I noticed this just
- 16:14like earlier this month, like I noticed a couple of people were
- 16:20filming themselves working out at the gym.
- 16:22There's just like one guy, he came in, there's a particular
- 16:27week where he came in like a few times that week I haven't seen
- 16:29him. Maybe he was visiting, but I've
- 16:31never seen him at the gym before.
- 16:33But that particular week he came in a few times and he's got this
- 16:38vlogging camera. I, I know it's a vlogging
- 16:40camera, but I have that same camera, the DJ Osmo 3.
- 16:44It's very much you only, you only get it for vlogging.
- 16:47It's very purpose about to be a vlogging camera.
- 16:50You wouldn't get it if you weren't really.
- 16:52They had on a tripod. And when I first got to the gym
- 16:55that first day, he had the tripod, he had this tiny little
- 16:58camera volume camera set up on a tripod in the locker room.
- 17:03And there's actually, there's ATV, there's a big screen TV
- 17:07right beside the entrance to the locker rooms at my gym.
- 17:10And it shows like ads and like it shows some notices and then
- 17:14sometimes just show like random videos.
- 17:16It's not sign is technically, but as part of the rotation of
- 17:19the stuff it shows on that screen.
- 17:20One of the things it will show is this big orange sign that
- 17:26says no, no photos or videos in the locker room.
- 17:30So I mean, it's it's not showing the whole time, but like you go
- 17:33to the gym enough times that they will say that.
- 17:36So I find it funny that the very first time I saw him at the gym,
- 17:40the first time I saw him, he was trying to like take some video
- 17:43like in the locker room because he's got like this tripod and
- 17:47it's got the camera on it. And then later on, on the around
- 17:51the gym, he was just, you know, he was just vlogging himself
- 17:55doing various exercises. And I don't really have a
- 17:58problem with that. If there was any place you would
- 18:02expect to see that, it would be LA, to be really honest, that I
- 18:06didn't have a problem with. But he wasn't like in anyone's
- 18:10way really. He wasn't in my way.
- 18:13Or when I saw that when I was nearby and whenever I saw him on
- 18:16a piece of cream with the camera, the camera wasn't in
- 18:18someone's way. But later on that week, there
- 18:23was like some some girl that was videoing herself working out on
- 18:30her phone and she's like, she's on this machine.
- 18:33And besides, this machine is rack of dumbbells.
- 18:36And my thing about dumbbells at the gym is like don't work out
- 18:41right in front of I don't, it's very popular.
- 18:42A lot of people work out right in front of the dumbbells, but I
- 18:45never want people to like loiter around or block access to the
- 18:49dumbbells. If you're doing a set of
- 18:50something in front of the dumbbells, it's usually in front
- 18:53of a mirror and you are trying to look in front of a mirror.
- 18:56I'm not kind of OK with that. But like don't loiter there
- 18:59between your sets. That's just my thing because
- 19:01you're like standing in front of weights that other people might
- 19:05want to get to. So like this chick, she's got
- 19:08her like phone popped up on like something and it's like right in
- 19:11front of this rack of dumbbells because the, the machine she was
- 19:18on is like this right beside this rack of dumbbells and she's
- 19:21got her phone like 3 or 4 feet away.
- 19:24Like I, I get what she's trying to do.
- 19:26The urge I had to fucking drop kick that fucking phone out of
- 19:31there. I have to like, go back to my
- 19:33therapy and be like, OK, choose your own adventure.
- 19:35Choose your own adventure. Don't drop kick her phone.
- 19:40This is wrong. Yeah, no, I I I get it.
- 19:43But it's also like, I'm trying to work out.
- 19:46I just want to like, I just want to get out of the weights.
- 19:49I don't have a lot of sympathy for you filming yourself working
- 19:53out. You know what?
- 19:54The thing it doesn't help, though.
- 19:56Sometimes, especially near the end of a gym session, I get
- 20:00hungry. Which makes me more sensitive to
- 20:03getting hangry so I always have. I always try to have some food
- 20:09right before I go to the gym. It's usually like oat me with
- 20:11some fruits and usually that will do me well.
- 20:16I don't usually get hungry near the end gym.
- 20:19I can't go to the gym on a on a empty stomach.
- 20:22I can't go to the gym already hungry because I'll just be way
- 20:25too distracted by the fact that I'm hungry and it'll be very
- 20:28hard to concentrate. But lately though, near the end
- 20:32of the gym sessions, maybe I'm gradually starting to like push
- 20:35more and burn more calories. After like ramping back up from
- 20:41like from like a few weeks ago after EDC, I've kind of sort of
- 20:44ran back up now to my regular gym routine.
- 20:47So maybe burning more calories. I'm starting to sometimes feel
- 20:50just like a little bit hungry near the end of my gym sessions.
- 20:52Today was one of those days, and yesterday was for the days.
- 20:55And my friends know I get hungry.
- 20:58It it's it's a possibility. Just so you know, when you're
- 21:01hungry. When I'm hungry, it's a little
- 21:03easier to is I'm more irritable. There's no, there's no other
- 21:09ways to say it. Let's not sugarcoat it.
- 21:11It's more I'm more easily irritated.
- 21:15And yeah, I I just don't, I Do you own the French church?
- 21:20Do you own the French church? Do you own the French church?
- 21:22OK, let's end it there because I always say I want to keep the
- 21:27podcasts short and you know, like like 20 something minute
- 21:31ish podcast I think will be good for today.
- 21:35It is it is warming up a little bit as I'm recording this, but
- 21:40yeah, it'll be it'll be it'll be fine.
- 21:42I I'm not I'm not an angry person.
- 21:46It it's, it's you know what the damage is done.
- 21:49I've said all the things I've said and to then afterwards say
- 21:53I'm not an angry person. I feel like I'm a very
- 21:56passionate, opinionated person. I'm not like very, I'm not super
- 22:01easygoing, just not the kind of person that I am, you know, like
- 22:06if it, if I were friends or family, it's like, what do you
- 22:08want to eat? You know, and like no one has an
- 22:11idea and everyone just be like, I don't care.
- 22:14I don't care. I don't care.
- 22:15It literally, you know, you've all been in that situation where
- 22:17like you and a group of friends, OK, you guys are going to go out
- 22:22for a meal and then people are like, oh, what should we eat?
- 22:26Sometimes you get a group of people where everyone is like,
- 22:29oh, eat whatever. Oh, it doesn't matter to me.
- 22:32Oh, I'll eat anything. If I'm in that group, I will
- 22:35eventually say like, OK, let's go eat this because we can't all
- 22:38just be like, I'll eat whatever. Like we need to actually come to
- 22:42a decision. However, if someone has an idea,
- 22:44I'll be like, OK, sure, it's fine.
- 22:47So I'm not like I'm not, I'm not picky and hung up about
- 22:49everything. But I, I understand that I, I
- 22:53have given all of you not that idea today on this podcast.
- 22:57Let's end it there. I do want to remind everyone, if
- 23:00you would like to support the podcast, you would like to
- 23:03support the channel. I do have a Patreon where you
- 23:06can get lots of Patreon exclusive content.
- 23:11Just went up this week and other installment of my travel vlog
- 23:15from where I went to Asia, went to Seoul and went to Bangkok
- 23:20back in April. And then after the travel vlog
- 23:25for that trip is over, the next one that's coming up is my trip
- 23:30to EDC Las Vegas. I got quite a bit of footage in
- 23:33there that's definitely going to be like multiple parts and I so
- 23:37much fun at ADC. So I'm very excited for my
- 23:40Patreons patrons to see that. And I just actually did another
- 23:45live stream with my top tier OPA subscribers.
- 23:48I do a monthly live stream and we had a great live stream in
- 23:52May and we just did the one for June this past weekend.
- 23:56It was so much fun, but I get to like really interact with some
- 24:00of my fans and you know, I'm talking and speaking and there's
- 24:03like the live chat. So I should really, really
- 24:07enjoyed the live streams. We've been doing a live stream
- 24:10every month for I think almost like a year now.
- 24:13We've had the Patreon up for I think nearly a year.
- 24:15I have to double check, but for like several months now and like
- 24:20the the live streams are so much fun.
- 24:23But in addition to that, I was supposed just like random
- 24:25tidbits of things. So David Lamb is staying with me
- 24:29and I just posted a selfie of us onto my Patreon.
- 24:33It's actually a pretty cute selfie actually.
- 24:35So I do post like random tidbits onto my Patreon.
- 24:39So we would like to support the channel and also get some extra
- 24:42content and return the patrons. A great way to do that.
- 24:45But if you just want to leave a tip, just a little token of your
- 24:49appreciation on all of my YouTube channels, you can click
- 24:53on the little extra 3 dotted menu thing besides the like
- 24:58button for any video. Then there will be a thanks
- 25:01option. We can leave a little tip
- 25:03directly for me within YouTube, which would be much appreciated.
- 25:07Or I also have Buy Me a Coffee, which is a platform that you can
- 25:11use to support your favorite creators.
- 25:12Whenever I say that line, I feel like I'm plugging or like
- 25:16advertising that platform, but it's like the easiest, shortest,
- 25:19most concise way for me to explain what Buy Me a Coffee the
- 25:23app does. There's a lot of creators do use
- 25:26it to like just get one time tips from their fans.
- 25:29It's just it's a different platform, but it's called buy me
- 25:32a coffee. When someone mentioned that to
- 25:34me before I even knew what the app was, I had a fan and they
- 25:38asked me if I if they could like buy me a car or if I have buy me
- 25:41a coffee. And I thought they literally
- 25:42meant like they wanted to buy me a coffee.
- 25:44I didn't know that it was an app or like a platform.
- 25:48And so they had like, explained it to me, but I'd never heard of
- 25:51it before. But I do have that now.
- 25:53So yeah, feel free to buy me a coffee or leave me a little
- 25:56YouTube things. And there's always that Patreon
- 25:59as well. But until next time, bye y'all.
